Leviticus 6:1-7:27, Mark 3:7-30, Psalms 37:1-11, Proverbs 10:3-4

Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am absolutely, positively not Brian, but I am the other, I guess, I’m the other half of Brian since the two of us are one. I am Brian’s wife, Jill, for those of you that are new this year. Welcome to this amazing community led by an amazing man. I have watched my husband go from word reader, Bible reader, to theologian to lover of God’s word and I am immensely…I am one immensely proud wife. Welcome to a new day, to a new mercy, and a new living breathing word. It is truly an honor to be here with you. I know how seriously Brian takes this, I see what he does every day, day in day out, no matter where he’s at. So, it is truly an honor that he has entrusted me with this mantel of carrying the word. We are reading today, starting in the Old Testament, the Christian Standard Bible translation on this 18th day of February, and we begin in Leviticus 6:1 and we’re reading through verse…I’m sorry…chapter 7 verse 27. And we will see what kind of names he has left for me.

Commentary:

Every day this community gets Brian’s explanations at the end of this. He’s become this theologian, this deep historian, and this man that can explain the Bible and interpret in a way that just makes it clear and understandable, which is…it’s just such a gift. Many of you like me have said, “I’ve tried to read the Bible through…I mean…I was even a junior Bible quiz student growing up in my church and just didn’t understand Scripture. And the way that Brian explains it and delivers it is so beautiful and so rich and its such a gift and I feel bad that you’re stuck with me today. So, my offering today, where I see myself in the Scripture is in the passage in Mark. I find myself all too well relating to the scribes who walk into a situation where Jesus is casting out demons, demonic spirits, and even knows what’s about to happen so He tells the disciples to have the boat ready and before long here come the scribes. And I, with conviction, say that I ashamedly find myself with the scribes. And here’s what I mean by that. When the natural mind cannot comprehend what fits into our religious confinements, when we do not understand outside the parameters of our belief system, and if it doesn’t fit into our theology and our denominational confinements, boy, we like to call it the work of the enemy, don’t we? If we can’t understand it, it must not be holy, it must not be God. And, so, if it’s not of God it is automatically of the enemy. And I think so often we find ourselves, I find myself, blaming God for things He is not responsible for and blaming the enemy for things that God might be actually a part of. But in this particular Scripture  it is the work of the enemy and Jesus is taking it upon himself and casting out demons and the scribes come down and they insert their personal opinion and their personal belief system which we do so many times in so many of the wrong places. And Jesus responds in a way that only He can. He responds to them with a question and I hear the conviction in my own heart as the question is presented, “how can Satan drive out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself that kingdom cannot stand. If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. You know, we often pin that quote to the speech that Abraham Lincoln gave often forgetting Jesus himself said it first. And it’s so true. When my husband and I are not on the same page in parenting our kids can detect it and they’ll utilize it in their favor, right? We often reference that in government but what about this statement to be true in our churches. And if we go a little bit further inward let’s look into our homes. And if we were to go in just a little bit deeper, what if we look into our own lives?

Prayer:

So Jesus, we invite You into all of the places that we do not understand with our natural mind, we invite You, Holy Spirit, to bring understanding and direction and counsel and guidance and we can do that so much more clearly when we stop and give room for pause and room for breathe and room for You to speak into that which we do not understand, but we must create space for You to speak. And we can do that so much more effectively if we will stop before we jump to assumptions, before we make our conclusions, before we reach for our religious rules and boundaries and parameters and confinements and restraints and allow You to do what You do, which is guide us, counsel us, direct us, correct us, break us outside of our comfort zones and break us outside into deeper waters as You call us into the deep. So, Father would You forgive us where we have inserted our own personal preferences and opinions of what we think we already know. And when we do that we allow You to come and show us more of what we don’t know, that we need to know and give us a longing to know You more. How I long to know You more. Give us Your eyes to see, Your ears to hear, and Your mind, give us the mind of Christ. We love You. We are so grateful for all that You are, all that You’ve done, all that You have not done because You know better and all that You are yet to do. In the name of the Father and of the son and of the Holy Spirit.

dailyaudiobible.com, that is the main place. Keep the main thing the main thing. That’s the main thing. Everything else that you need to know about the Daily Audio Bible, it is there. That is the main page. Of course, we are all over social media. Daily Audio Bible social media page, Facebook, Instagram, and we also have the Daily Audio Bible women’s page where we offer daily encouragement in just being a woman. And we also have the More Gathering Facebook page. So, if you are attending the More Gathering page and you have not liked that yet, I encourage you to do so. If you do not you will miss the daily posts that go out and we will be posting important information there for you guys. We’ll be posting the worship songs that you can start listening and learning and agreeing with the messages that we will be doing through song and worship and some other important information that is coming up as well as we get closer to the gathering itself.

If you have ever been to Israel, but really, really, really long to go. It’s not your time to go. I would encourage you to follow the social media pages on their journey. They will give you as close of an in-depth look as you possibly can through virtually being there through social media. And I am personally asking you to cover the team while they are there. I was there a few years ago with Ezekiel and I knew it was a hardship for my husband and for Mike who goes and assists and all of the other people that are there working but I had no idea the depth of the trip, especially for Brian. It is…he will not tell you this…it’s grueling for him. And, so, especially starting off with jetlag. There’s no way to get around that and the responsibilities that he has to do to keep the Bible read fresh while he’s there and all of the other demands of the trip. So, please, please cover him in prayer as he goes and the rest of the team and all that are on the journey and the pilgrimage. I say this almost every time I get behind the mic but it is your prayers that sustain our family and this community and I cannot, cannot highlight the magnitude of what I just said. I would have to give you stories and that would take time, but your prayers are the sustenance and the wind that keep this ship assail for lack of a better analogy…well…I guess…to keep a fire burning you have to have a little bit of wind to pick up that…to keep that fire, that ember burning. And when it’s about to die, when the wind picks up you’re gonna have a good frame. So, thank you for your prayers as always. Thank you for being a community that truly prays and cares for one another. It is…it’s beautiful to see you bear one another’s burdens. And I think sometimes the tendency is to think if Brian could just pray for me know…if, you know, if that pastor, if that evangelist could just pray for me all will be well. If they could just hear my story. It’s not physically…here’s the bitter cold truth. It’s not physically possible for Brian and I to meet all of the demands and the needs of this community. It is possible for all of us to do it for all of us together and you all do it beautifully, absolutely beautifully. So, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for doing what we can’t. And we can't…it’s not because we don’t want to…it’s that we are physically incapable of doing all that there is to do and we do a lot throughout the day and it seems like, you know, we could very much get thrown into the idea that there’s not enough time in the day. There is exactly enough time in the day. We just have to manage it well. So, thank you sincerely for picking up where we leave off and for being the beautiful body of Christ. It is truly one of the most breathtaking parts of this community and we are grateful. Okee dokee shmoecky, that’s it for today. I think Brian will be back with you tomorrow. Until then, that’s it for me today. I’m Jill. Love one another.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Good morning Daily Audio Bible, my name is Chris, I’m calling because my wife struggles with infertility and because I am an obstetrician I sought and obtained a donor which led to a frozen embryo. Maybe I did not seek God’s will long enough, but my wife was against adoption. Maybe I did not insist in her receiving counseling prior to doing this treatment but afterwards her behavior was definitely strange. Anyway, our son was born in 2015. Then in 2017 a job opportunity came up and my wife seemed excited because it meant security for our family. We prayed about and then we went and moved three hours away without her at first but only to give her a little time but not for more than a few weeks. Well, she barely came during that transition, but she did come to choose our new home and then she disappeared. I found her months later and she refused to __ my file custody of my son and she trumped me by signing for a divorce. Since then she’s claimed that she was counseling and has placed the divorce on hold but she’s still withholding my son and denying access even against courts orders. I have an attorney but he’s very slow. It’s now been one year since she’s filed for divorce and longer since she ran off with my son. Please pray that she’ll do the right thing. Her name is Carla from the Hudson Valley region of New York. Her stronghold is her mind. Her mother who’s a pastor and a strong matriarchal __ family. Also, please pray for me. I’m definitely __ stronger in my walk than I need to be, pray for my mind and for my son to be returned. He’s my only son. I am my dad’s only son and my dad waited 82 years for him to be born. My son’s name is Andr…My son’s name is Andred. Thank you.

Hi family I’m just calling on behalf of Karen. You called in. I just want to start off by saying I’m very happy and grateful that you did because you had a change of heart and your seeking change. You want…you want change. You want God to work in your heart and in your life and help heal the broken places for you and your son. So, I pray for starters that this change can be made permanent, solidified. And I pray that the Spirit of God will clearly guide You on what to do next, where to go, where to change even more. And as for Your son, I pray for healing and a complete identity restoration within his mind. I lift both Karen and her son to You God and I thank You. Thank You for having her call-in. Thank You for just the work You’re doing in her life, it’s just amazing, in all of our lives. I pray for all of our lives, lift all of our lives up into Your hands, that Your will will be done in each and every one of us because we know Your will is the best and most perfect way to go. Sometimes we think, yeah, this is the right way, but I believe in Proverbs it says, “the way of a man seems right, but it ends in and leads to death. That’s so true. In so many cases in my life it’s been the case. And I pray that we can have Your wisdom and be guided by Your Spirt. You know exactly what actions to take and where no to go. Thank you. Talk to you guys soon. Bye.

Good morning, good evening, good afternoon Daily Audio Bible family. This is Andrea DeLane from Kentucky and I just wanted to share and encouragement with you today. Obviously, we’re going through and we’re hearing about the crucifixion of Jesus and His resurrection and it’s so humbling to me. It’s just like, so humbling when we really stop and meditate and think on all that Yeshua has done for us, that He’s torn down the walls of separation between us and the Father and He has, so that we can be restored to Him. And, so, this morning also in my own personal time reading the word of God, I was reading and looking up Scriptures on humility and that brought me to first Peter 5, where he’s talking about, “humble yourself, and under the mighty hand of Elohim so that He will exalt you in due time casting all your worry upon Him for He is concerned about you.” And I just had to stop there because to take that all in, that He is so concerned about us, that He loves us so much. And I just want to remind you that to cast your cares upon Him for He truly, truly cares about you. And sometimes we want to feel it, but the fact is that He’s laid Himself on a cross, stretched His arms out and said I love you. And that, is enough to know that He cares, but He is so much more bigger and broader to just come down to each of us individually and show us His love. And I pray today that you experience His love. So, I agree with you for your prayer request and I love you. Have a good day.

Hello Daily Audio Bible family, this is Michael from Mesa. It’s been a little bit since I called in. Let’s see. Basic things. Amber from California, I think, I listen on my commute so my memory is really not so great on it but I think that’s right. Going through just marriage things. I have my own Amber, and we’ve been through so so many things over our 25, 27+ years of marriage. I, you know, I’m with you there, girl. So, just to let you know I’m praying for you. Brian, trip to Israel. I’m praying for you and the team and everybody that’s going. Praying for safe travels, technology working well, and just a wonderful and blessed time. In terms of myself, I know, I would guess that, as large as this family is, there’s someone still pray for me for clients. There’s things starting to build but I have nothing solid yet. And my work hours toward the billable stuff I’m supposed to be doing is all really low right now. So, prayers that the Lord would bring some of the efforts to fruit and that I would actually have some clients. My big project, working on the __ that I’m working on is going well but it’s coming to a close to. So, I’ve gotta get the client work in. Anyway, if you all know pray for me that’d be great. Love you all so much. Every day, the voices are a blessing to me just in that as I’m commuting back and forth during the day. You’re a rich family. Love you deeply. Talk you later. Michael from Mesa.

The Daily Audio Bible Reading for Monday February 18, 2019 (NIV)

Leviticus 6:1-7:27

The Lord spoke to Moses: “When someone sins and offends the Lord by deceiving(A) his neighbor in regard to a deposit,(B) a security,[a] or a robbery;(C) or defrauds(D) his neighbor; or finds something lost and lies about it;(E) or swears falsely(F) about any of the sinful things a person may do— once he has sinned(G) and acknowledged his guilt(H)—he must return what he stole or defrauded, or the deposit entrusted to him, or the lost item he found, or anything else about which he swore falsely. He will make full restitution for it and add a fifth of its value to it.(I) He is to pay it to its owner on the day he acknowledges his guilt.(J) Then he is to bring his guilt offering(K) to the Lord: an unblemished(L) ram from the flock according to your assessment of its value as a guilt offering to the priest. In this way the priest will make atonement on his behalf before the Lord, and he will be forgiven for anything he may have done to incur guilt.”(M)

The Burnt Offering

The Lord spoke to Moses: “Command Aaron and his sons: This is the law of the burnt offering; the burnt offering itself must remain on the altar’s hearth all night until morning, while the fire of the altar is kept burning on it. 10 The priest is to put on his linen robe and linen undergarments.[b](N) He is to remove the ashes of the burnt offering the fire has consumed on the altar, and place them beside the altar. 11 Then he will take off his garments, put on other clothes,(O) and bring the ashes outside the camp to a ceremonially clean place. 12 The fire on the altar is to be kept burning; it must not go out. Every morning the priest will burn wood on the fire. He is to arrange the burnt offering on the fire and burn the fat portions from the fellowship offerings(P) on it. 13 Fire must be kept burning on the altar continually; it must not go out.

The Grain Offering

14 “Now this is the law of the grain offering:(Q) Aaron’s sons will present it before the Lord in front of the altar. 15 The priest is to remove a handful of fine flour and olive oil from the grain offering, with all the frankincense that is on the offering, and burn its memorial portion on the altar as a pleasing aroma to the Lord. 16 Aaron and his sons may eat the rest of it.(R) It is to be eaten in the form of unleavened bread(S) in a holy place;(T) they are to eat it in the courtyard(U) of the tent of meeting. 17 It must not be baked with yeast; I have assigned it as their portion(V) from my fire offerings.(W) It is especially holy, like the sin offering(X) and the guilt offering. 18 Any male among Aaron’s descendants(Y) may eat it. It is a permanent portion[c](Z) throughout your generations from the fire offerings to the Lord. Anything that touches the offerings will become holy.”(AA)

19 The Lord spoke to Moses: 20 “This is the offering that Aaron and his sons are to present to the Lord on the day that he is anointed: two quarts[d] of fine flour as a regular grain offering, half of it in the morning and half in the evening. 21 It is to be prepared with oil on a griddle; you are to bring it well-kneaded. You are to present it as a grain offering of baked pieces,[e] a pleasing aroma to the Lord. 22 The priest, who is one of Aaron’s sons and will be anointed to take his place, is to prepare it. It must be completely burned as a permanent portion for the Lord. 23 Every grain offering for a priest will be a whole burnt offering;(AB) it is not to be eaten.”

The Sin Offering

24 The Lord spoke to Moses: 25 “Tell Aaron and his sons: This is the law of the sin offering.(AC) The sin offering is most holy and must be slaughtered before the Lord at the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered. 26 The priest who offers it as a sin offering will eat it. It is to be eaten in a holy place,(AD) in the courtyard of the tent of meeting. 27 Anything that touches its flesh will become holy, and if any of its blood spatters on a garment, then you must wash that garment[f] in a holy place. 28 A clay pot in which the sin offering is boiled is to be broken; if it is boiled in a bronze vessel, it is to be scoured and rinsed with water. 29 Any male among the priests may eat it; it is especially holy. 30 But no sin offering may be eaten if its blood has been brought into the tent of meeting to make atonement in the holy place; it must be burned.

The Guilt Offering

“Now this is the law of the guilt[g] offering;(AE) it is especially holy. The guilt offering is to be slaughtered at the place where the burnt offering(AF) is slaughtered, and the priest is to splatter its blood on all sides of the altar. The offerer is to present all the fat from it: the fat tail,(AG) the fat surrounding the entrails,[h] and the two kidneys with the fat on them at the loins; he will also remove the fatty lobe of the liver(AH) with the kidneys. The priest will burn them on the altar as a fire offering(AI) to the Lord; it is a guilt offering. Any male among the priests may eat it.(AJ) It is to be eaten in a holy place;(AK) it is especially holy.(AL)

“The guilt offering is like the sin offering;(AM) the law is the same for both. It belongs to the priest(AN) who makes atonement(AO) with it. As for the priest who presents someone’s burnt offering, the hide of the burnt offering he has presented belongs to him; it is the priest’s. Any grain offering(AP) that is baked in an oven or prepared in a pan or on a griddle belongs to the priest who presents it; it is his. 10 But any grain offering, whether dry or mixed with oil, belongs equally to all of Aaron’s sons.

The Fellowship Sacrifice

11 “Now this is the law of the fellowship sacrifice(AQ) that someone may present to the Lord: 12 If he presents it for thanksgiving, in addition to the thanksgiving sacrifice,(AR) he is to present unleavened cakes(AS) mixed with olive oil, unleavened wafers(AT) coated with oil, and well-kneaded cakes of fine flour mixed with oil. 13 He is to present as his offering cakes of leavened bread with his thanksgiving sacrifice of fellowship. 14 From the cakes he is to present one portion of each offering as a contribution(AU) to the Lord. It will belong to the priest who splatters the blood of the fellowship offering; it is his. 15 The meat of his thanksgiving sacrifice of fellowship must be eaten on the day he offers it;(AV) he may not leave any of it until morning.(AW)

16 “If the sacrifice he offers is a vow(AX) or a freewill offering,(AY) it is to be eaten on the day he presents his sacrifice, and what is left over may be eaten on the next day. 17 But what remains of the sacrificial meat by the third day must be burned.(AZ) 18 If any of the meat of his fellowship sacrifice is eaten on the third day, it will not be accepted.(BA) It will not be credited to the one who presents it; it is repulsive.(BB) The person who eats any of it will bear his iniquity.[i]

19 “Meat that touches anything unclean must not be eaten; it is to be burned. Everyone who is clean may eat any other meat. 20 But the one who eats meat from the Lord’s fellowship sacrifice while he is unclean, that person must be cut off from his people.(BC) 21 If someone touches anything unclean, whether human uncleanness, an unclean animal, or any unclean, abhorrent[j](BD) creature, and eats meat from the Lord’s fellowship sacrifice, that person is to be cut off from his people.”

Fat and Blood Prohibited

22 The Lord spoke to Moses: 23 “Tell the Israelites: You are not to eat any fat(BE) of an ox, a sheep, or a goat. 24 The fat of an animal that dies naturally or is mauled by wild beasts[k](BF) may be used for any other purpose, but you must not eat it.(BG) 25 If anyone eats animal fat from a fire offering presented to the Lord, the person who eats it is to be cut off from his people. 26 Wherever you live, you must not eat the blood(BH) of any bird or animal. 27 Whoever eats any blood is to be cut off from his people.”

Ministering to the Multitude

Jesus(A) departed with his disciples to the sea, and a large crowd followed from Galilee,(B) and a large crowd followed from Judea,(C) Jerusalem,(D) Idumea, beyond the Jordan,(E) and around Tyre(F) and Sidon.(G) The large crowd came to him because they heard about everything he was doing. Then he told his disciples to have a small boat(H) ready for him, so that the crowd wouldn’t crush him. 10 Since he had healed(I) many, all who had diseases were pressing toward him to touch(J) him. 11 Whenever the unclean(K) spirits(L) saw him, they fell down(M) before him and cried out, “You are the Son of God!” (N) 12 And he would strongly warn(O) them not to make him known.(P)

The Twelve Apostles

13 Jesus(Q) went up the mountain(R) and summoned those he wanted, and they came to him. 14 He appointed twelve, whom he also named apostles,[a](S) to be with him, to send them out to preach,(T) 15 and to have authority to[b] drive out demons. 16 He appointed the Twelve:[c](U) To Simon,(V) he gave the name Peter;(W) 17 and to James(X) the son of Zebedee,(Y) and to his brother John,(Z) he gave the name “Boanerges” (that is, “Sons of Thunder”(AA)); 18 Andrew;(AB) Philip(AC) and Bartholomew; Matthew(AD) and Thomas;(AE) James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon the Zealot, 19 and Judas Iscariot,(AF) who also betrayed him.

A House Divided

20 Jesus entered a house, and the crowd gathered again so that they were not even able to eat.[d] 21 When his family(AG) heard this, they set out to restrain him, because they said, “He’s out of his mind.”(AH)

22 The scribes(AI) who had come down from Jerusalem said, “He is possessed by Beelzebul,”(AJ) and, “He drives out(AK) demons(AL) by the ruler(AM) of the demons.”(AN)

23 So he summoned(AO) them and spoke to them in parables:(AP) “How can Satan(AQ) drive out Satan?(AR) 24 If a kingdom(AS) is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. 26 And if Satan opposes himself and is divided, he cannot stand but is finished. 27 But no one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his possessions unless he first ties up(AT) the strong man. Then he can plunder his house.

28 “Truly I tell you, people will be forgiven for all sins and whatever blasphemies(AU) they utter. 29 But whoever blasphemes(AV) against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness,(AW) but is guilty(AX) of an eternal sin”[e](AY) 30 because they were saying, “He has an unclean spirit.”(AZ)

Leviticus 4:1-5:19, Mark 2:13-3:6, Psalms 36:1-12, Proverbs 10:1-2

Today is the 17th day of February. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian. It’s great to be here with you today. This will be the last time I’m doing this from the United States for a minute. We’ll leave later and begin our journey across the ocean into the Mediterranean where we will land in Tel Aviv and start preparing for our pilgrimage to the land of the Bible. So, I’m thanking you in advance for your prayers up front as we leave today, but it’s a brand-new week, it’s shiny and sparkly, we’re stepping into it together. We’re kind of freshly in books both in the Old Testament and the New Testament, we just got ourselves going in Leviticus and have also just got ourselves going in the gospel of Mark. And this week we will read from the Christian Standard Bible. Today, Leviticus chapter 4, chapters 4 and 5.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word, we thank You for what You are speaking to us through Your word, we thank You that Your word is a constant in our lives, it’s part of the rhythm of every day and it shapes us in profound and profoundly important ways. And we thank You and we invite Your Holy Spirit to plant the word of God that we’ve read today in our lives as we move into this new week. And Father, we acknowledge that this is a busy week around the Daily Audio Bible community because, well, because we’ll be traveling and because we will be bringing the land of the Bible to as many as we can reach as we travel around it. And, so, Father, I pray over this pilgrimage, whether it be a personal pilgrimage that some of our brothers and sisters are going on personally or whether this be a virtual pilgrimage where we just simply stay connected to the story of the Scripture and the story of the geography of the land. Come Holy Spirit. The whole point of all of this effort and all of this travel is to make Your word come alive. This is what You’ve called us to as a community, to make Your word come alive. And, so, help us Holy Spirit as we make this journey, this pilgrimage. We love You, we trust You, we pray these things in Your mighty name. Amen.

And as we were just praying about, today’s a travel day and it’s a big travel day and it won’t end for a while, but we will end up on the other side of the world in Tel Aviv in the land of the Bible and prepare to take our pilgrimage through that land. And we do everything that we can think of to make it as a communal and interactive as possible. So, we’ll be posting a lot of pictures. I’ll be talking about it every day on the Daily Audio Bible because the Daily Audio Bible doesn’t stop. And, so, we’ll be doing this as we are traveling. So, thank you for your prayers over that, for technology, for stamina, that’s always a tough one because they’re long days and we’re working all day long and when the day ends its kind of not over for me yet or for China, there’s still Daily Audio Bible production to do. So, thank you for your prayers over that. But we’ll be sharing what we’re seeing, what we’re experiencing on both DAB Chronological and the Daily Audio Bible. So, you can listen here and get a travelogue and then maybe go over there and get her perspective as well at Daily Audio Bible Chronological as we’re taking this journey. Like I said, we’ll be posting photographs, videos, other associated posts, I don’t know. We post continually as we’re there. And, so, following Daily Audio Bible on Facebook or Instagram or Twitter will let you kind of be able to follow along as we post things as they happen. And, so, this is it. I’m sittin’ here in the comfort of my own home and just realizing I gotta stand up from here and I won’t be back for a couple of weeks. So, that’s always a little bit of a moment. And Jill and Ezekiel will be staying back this time. So, I have to say goodbye and I hate that. But this is what we do. This is wat we’re called to do. So, I’m excited for it and thanking you for your prayers.

If you want to partner with the Daily Audio Bible, you can do that at dailyaudiobible.com. There is a link on the homepage. If you’re using the Daily Audio Bible, you can press the Give button in the upper right-hand corner or, if you prefer, the mailing address is PO Box 1996 Spring Hill Tennessee 37174

And as always, if you have a prayer request or comment, 877-942-4253 is the number to dial.

And that’s it for today. I’m Brian I love you and I’ll be waiting for you here tomorrow.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hi DABbers, this is Kara from Denver, mile high city and I was just listening to the community encouragement and my heart was so…just started to feel so full that I…I kind of couldn’t help but call. Shannon from Texas, your call really prompted me today. That attitude of…I’m gonna agree with you. What do we believe? We are the children of the most-high God. And you said…you know…I want to call and pray for my son, my son Nishua, Nish is his nickname. He has a long trippy name. And Yesuah is his middle name and I’m gonna…I want to pray for him. He’s out in the world somewhere and still and, you know, he doesn’t use a phone and I don’t know if he’s homeless or not. I don’t really…not too sure what he’s up to but I get so worried about him and I see him, and all these being destroyed and all this stuff and it’s just…it’s ridiculous. My son is a child of the most-high God and he is perfect in every…he is perfect in the kingdom today and every day. Shannon from Texas that’s what you said, and I agree with you. I want to also lift up Sharon the Victorious. I think it was Sharon. And I know she’s still going through it and I want to lift her up and Prodigal, yeah, I called right after I heard your call. And I want to also pray for my daughter, she’s in a…she’s in a closed adoption, she’s 10. I haven’t seen her since she was born. I want to pray for my son Nicholas who’s in an open adoption. I do…

Hello, my brothers and sisters, this is Randy from rocket city, grace and peace unto you. I heard the prayer of the grandmother of Xander and I just wanted to let you know that I have prayed for you and I will pray for you and I wanted to share something that God has put on my heart with regards to worry. My wife, Wendy, which I also ask everyone to pray for is…she goes through a lot of pain and a lot of health issues and I pretend to worry about it a lot through my day while I’m at work and it occurred to me that my worrying isn’t doing her any good. So, now I use that time when I am tempted to worry to convert it to prayer. So, now it’s my signal pray for Wendy. So, when she comes up in my mind throughout the day I pray for her and that’s what I commend to you my brothers and sisters, that worry doesn’t do anything but it does something as far as reminding you that only God is our help. And, so, again, I pray for you my sister and I pray for Xander in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Good morning family this is Lynn from Florida and I’m calling to speak to Jane from New York. Jane, first of all, I apologize. It took me too long to call you, but you have been in my thoughts and my prayers and on my heart since I heard your request. You moved to New York, you’re sitting at your table and I picture you in your discouragement with your son and feeling like you’re not hearing from God, but I want to say something to you that I feel like was put on my heart to tell you, to remind you, and this is for everybody out there. I want to remind us all that we are children of the King. We are priceless possessions to Him and we have to remember that. In this world where we get defeated every day, we forget that we have a kingdom that were going to. And God wants us individually so much that we need to take hold of that and if we were children of an earthly king we would not be in despair, we would remember that, we would be walking in our royal robe. So, we have something better, we have our spiritual King. And Jane, I know what you mean when you say that you haven’t had a Holy Spirit experience. I can say the same thing; however, when I feel that despair and when I feel sad and lonely and neglected I do remember that I am God’s girl, I am His beloved and that gives me the courage to move forward and to step out into His grace. And just be reminded Jane that He loves you so much. Well, I love you all. I hope that helps. And thank you for all your prayers and as you know we all pray for you. I pray for you. Have a great day. Bye.

Hello, my Daily Audio Bible family, this is Michele with one L from Central Florida. I’m calling because Pelham you’ve been on my heart a lot lately and I actually meant to call Saturday, which I believe was 9th February, today is the 13th of February. And Pelham, I want you to do this, okay? Stop what you’re doing unless you’re driving. Put your right hand straight out in front of you, your arm straight. Put it on your left shoulder. Now take your left hand, put it out straight so that your arm is straight. Put it on your right shoulder and squeeze. That’s a hug from me and it’s the closest I can get but I just wanted you to know that when you talked about having about having a Jesus with arms, that’s my hug to you. And I wanted to let you know brother I’m praying for you. And Tim from Michigan and Prodigal, I am reaching out to you by faith and praying that God’s going to meet all your needs. I heard recently that isolation and loneliness causes premature death even more than obesity. So, I just am praying that you’re going to get into a circle of believers that can actually give you in person hugs. And just know that I and many of your family members are praying for you, lifting you up and speaking encouragement to you. Pelham, you know, whatever situation we’re in, we’re to be content, right? Amen brother. And I know that Jehovah Jira is gonna meet your needs. Sometimes it’s not what we want and it’s not the needs we think we have but praying that God will bring you abundance, protection, and provision as His covenant promises. You have a blessed day brother. I’ll talk you all soon. Bye.

Leviticus 4-5

The Sin Offering

Then the Lord spoke to Moses: “Tell the Israelites: When someone sins unintentionally(A) against any of the Lord’s commands and does anything prohibited by them—

“If the anointed priest(B) sins, bringing guilt(C) on the people, he is to present to the Lord a young, unblemished(D) bull as a sin[a] offering(E) for the sin he has committed. He is to bring the bull to the entrance to the tent of meeting before the Lord, lay his hand on the bull’s head, and slaughter it before the Lord. The anointed priest will then take some of the bull’s blood and bring it into the tent of meeting. The priest is to dip his finger in the blood and sprinkle some of it seven times(F) before the Lord in front of the curtain(G) of the sanctuary.(H) The priest is to apply some of the blood to the horns of the altar of fragrant incense(I) that is before the Lord in the tent of meeting. He must pour out the rest of the bull’s blood at the base of the altar of burnt offering(J) that is at the entrance to the tent of meeting. He is to remove all the fat from the bull of the sin offering: the fat surrounding the entrails, all the fat that is on the entrails, and the two kidneys with the fat on them at the loins. He will also remove the fatty lobe of the liver with the kidneys, 10 just as the fat is removed from the ox of the fellowship sacrifice.(K) The priest is to burn them on the altar of burnt offering. 11 But the hide(L) of the bull and all its flesh, with its head and legs, and its entrails and waste— 12 all the rest of the bull—he must bring to a ceremonially clean place(M) outside the camp(N) to the ash heap, and must burn it on a wood fire. It is to be burned at the ash heap.

13 “Now if the whole community of Israel(O) errs,(P) and the matter escapes the notice of the assembly,(Q) so that they violate any of the Lord’s commands and incur guilt(R) by doing what is prohibited, 14 then the assembly must present a young bull as a sin offering. They are to bring it before the tent of meeting when the sin they have committed in regard to the command becomes known. 15 The elders(S) of the community are to lay their hands on the bull’s head before the Lord and it is to be slaughtered before the Lord. 16 The anointed priest will bring some of the bull’s blood into the tent of meeting. 17 The priest is to dip his finger in the blood and sprinkle it seven times before the Lord in front of the curtain. 18 He is to apply some of the blood to the horns of the altar that is before the Lord in the tent of meeting. He will pour out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar of burnt offering that is at the entrance to the tent of meeting. 19 He is to remove all the fat from it and burn it on the altar. 20 He is to offer this bull just as he did with the bull in the sin offering; he will offer it the same way. So the priest will make atonement(T) on their behalf, and they will be forgiven.(U) 21 Then he will bring the bull outside the camp(V) and burn it just as he burned the first bull. It is the sin offering for the assembly.

22 “When a leader[b](W) sins and unintentionally violates any of the commands of the Lord his God by doing what is prohibited, and incurs guilt, 23 or someone informs him about the sin he has committed, he is to bring an unblemished male goat(X) as his offering. 24 He is to lay his hand on the head of the goat and slaughter it at the place where the burnt offering(Y) is slaughtered before the Lord. It is a sin offering.(Z) 25 Then the priest is to take some of the blood from the sin offering with his finger and apply it to the horns of the altar of burnt offering.(AA) The rest of its blood he is to pour out at the base of the altar of burnt offering. 26 He must burn all its fat on the altar, like the fat of the fellowship sacrifice. In this way the priest will make atonement on his behalf for that person’s sin, and he will be forgiven.

27 “Now if any of the common people[c] sins unintentionally by violating one of the Lord’s commands, does what is prohibited, and incurs guilt, 28 or if someone informs him about the sin he has committed, then he is to bring an unblemished female goat as his offering for the sin that he has committed. 29 He is to lay his hand on the head of the sin offering and slaughter it at the place of the burnt offering. 30 Then the priest is to take some of its blood with his finger and apply it to the horns of the altar of burnt offering. He is to pour out the rest of its blood at the base of the altar. 31 He is to remove all its fat just as the fat is removed from the fellowship sacrifice. The priest is to burn it on the altar as a pleasing aroma to the Lord. In this way the priest will make atonement on his behalf, and he will be forgiven.

32 “Or if the offering that he brings as a sin offering is a lamb,(AB) he is to bring an unblemished female. 33 He is to lay his hand on the head of the sin offering and slaughter it as a sin offering at the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered. 34 Then the priest is to take some of the blood of the sin offering with his finger and apply it to the horns of the altar of burnt offering. He is to pour out the rest of its blood at the base of the altar. 35 He is to remove all its fat just as the fat of the lamb is removed from the fellowship sacrifice. The priest will burn it on the altar along with the fire offerings to the Lord. In this way the priest will make atonement on his behalf for the sin he has committed, and he will be forgiven.

Cases Requiring Sin Offerings

“When someone sins in any of these ways:

If he has seen, heard, or known about something he has witnessed, and did not respond to a public call to testify, he will bear his iniquity.(AC)

Or if someone touches anything unclean(AD)—a carcass of an unclean wild animal,(AE) or unclean livestock, or an unclean swarming creature(AF)—without being aware of it, he is unclean and incurs guilt.(AG)

Or if he touches human uncleanness(AH)—any uncleanness by which one can become defiled(AI)—without being aware of it, but later recognizes it, he incurs guilt.

Or if someone swears rashly(AJ) to do what is good or evil—concerning anything a person may speak rashly in an oath—without being aware of it, but later recognizes it, he incurs guilt in such an instance.

If someone incurs guilt in one of these cases, he is to confess(AK) he has committed that sin. He must bring his penalty for guilt(AL) for the sin he has committed to the Lord: a female lamb or goat from the flock as a sin offering. In this way the priest will make atonement(AM) on his behalf for his sin.

“But if he cannot afford an animal from the flock, then he may bring to the Lord two turtledoves or two young pigeons(AN) as penalty for guilt for his sin—one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering. He is to bring them to the priest, who will first present the one for the sin offering. He is to twist its head at the back of the neck without severing it.(AO) Then he will sprinkle some of the blood of the sin offering on the side of the altar, while the rest of the blood is to be drained out at the base of the altar;(AP) it is a sin offering. 10 He will prepare the second bird as a burnt offering according to the regulation.(AQ) In this way the priest will make atonement on his behalf for the sin he has committed, and he will be forgiven.

11 “But if he cannot afford two turtledoves or two young pigeons,(AR) he may bring two quarts[d] of fine flour[e](AS) as an offering for his sin. He must not put olive oil or frankincense on it, for it is a sin offering. 12 He is to bring it to the priest, who will take a handful from it as its memorial portion(AT) and burn it on the altar along with the fire offerings to the Lord; it is a sin offering. 13 In this way the priest will make atonement on his behalf concerning the sin he has committed in any of these cases, and he will be forgiven. The rest will belong to the priest, like the grain offering.”(AU)

The Guilt Offering

14 Then the Lord spoke to Moses: 15 “If someone offends(AV) by sinning unintentionally(AW) in regard to any of the Lord’s holy things,[f] he must bring his penalty for guilt to the Lord: an unblemished ram from the flock (based on your assessment of its value in silver shekels, according to the sanctuary shekel(AX)) as a guilt offering. 16 He is to make restitution(AY) for his sin regarding any holy(AZ) thing, adding a fifth of its value to it,(BA) and give it to the priest. Then the priest will make atonement on his behalf with the ram of the guilt offering, and he will be forgiven.(BB)

17 “If someone sins and without knowing it violates any of the Lord’s commands concerning anything prohibited, he is guilty, and he will bear his iniquity. 18 He must bring an unblemished ram from the flock according to your assessment of its value as a guilt offering to the priest. Then the priest will make atonement on his behalf for the error he has committed unintentionally, and he will be forgiven. 19 It is a guilt offering; he is indeed guilty before the Lord.”

Mark 2:13-3:6

The Call of Levi

13 Jesus(A) went out again beside the sea. The whole crowd was coming to him, and he was teaching(B) them. 14 Then, passing by, he saw Levi(C) the son of Alphaeus sitting at the toll booth,(D) and he said to him, “Follow me,”(E) and he got up and followed(F) him.

15 While he was reclining at the table in Levi’s house, many tax collectors(G) and sinners(H) were eating[a] with Jesus and his disciples, for there were many who were following him. 16 When the scribes(I) who were Pharisees[b](J) saw that he was eating(K) with sinners(L) and tax collectors,(M) they asked his disciples, “Why does he eat[c] with tax collectors and sinners?”

17 When Jesus heard this, he told them, “It is not those who are well who need(N) a doctor,(O) but those who are sick.(P) I didn’t come to call the righteous,(Q) but sinners.”(R)

A Question about Fasting

18 Now(S) John’s(T) disciples(U) and the Pharisees[d](V) were fasting.(W) People came and asked him, “Why do John’s disciples and the Pharisees’ disciples fast, but your disciples do not fast?”

19 Jesus said to them, “The wedding guests cannot fast while the groom(X) is with them, can they? As long as they have the groom with them, they cannot fast. 20 But the time[e] will come(Y) when the groom will be taken away from them,(Z) and then they will fast(AA) on that day. 21 No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. Otherwise, the new patch pulls away from the old cloth,(AB) and a worse tear is made. 22 And no one puts new wine(AC) into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst(AD) the skins, and the wine is lost as well as the skins. No, new wine is put into fresh wineskins.”

Lord of the Sabbath

23 On(AE) the Sabbath he was going through the grainfields, and his disciples(AF) began to make their way, picking some heads of grain. 24 The Pharisees(AG) said to him, “Look, why are they doing what is not lawful(AH) on the Sabbath?”

25 He said to them, “Have you never read what David(AI) and those who were with him did when he was in need(AJ) and hungry(AK) 26 how he entered the house of God in the time of Abiathar(AL) the high priest(AM) and ate the bread of the Presence(AN) —which is not lawful for anyone to eat except the priests(AO) —and also gave some to his companions?” 27 Then he told them, “The Sabbath was made for[f] man and not man for the Sabbath.(AP) 28 So then, the Son of Man(AQ) is Lord(AR) even of the Sabbath.”(AS)

Jesus(AT) entered the synagogue(AU) again, and a man was there who had a shriveled(AV) hand. In order to accuse(AW) him, they were watching him closely(AX) to see whether he would heal(AY) him on the Sabbath.(AZ) He told the man with the shriveled hand, “Stand before us.” Then he said to them, “Is it lawful(BA) to do good(BB) on the Sabbath or to do evil,(BC) to save life(BD) or to kill?”(BE) But they were silent.(BF) After looking around at them with anger,(BG) he was grieved at the hardness(BH) of their hearts and told the man, “Stretch out your hand.” So he stretched it out, and his hand was restored.(BI) Immediately the Pharisees(BJ) went out and started plotting(BK) with the Herodians(BL) against him, how they might kill(BM) him.

Human Wickedness and God’s Love

For the choir director. Of David, the Lord’s servant.

An oracle within my heart
concerning the transgression of the wicked person:
Dread of God has no effect on him.[a](A)
For with his flattering opinion of himself,
he does not discover and hate his iniquity.(B)
The words from his mouth are malicious and deceptive;(C)
he has stopped acting wisely and doing good.(D)
Even on his bed he makes malicious plans.(E)

your faithfulness to the clouds.(G)
Your righteousness is like the highest mountains,

Leviticus 1:1-3:17, Mark 1:29-2:12, Psalms 35:17-28, Proverbs 9:13-18

Today is the 16th day of February. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian and it is a pleasure and an honor to be here with you at the close of another week. And yeah, as we begin next week, tomorrow we’re going to be beginning our pilgrimage to the land of the Bible and we’ll talk about that a little bit more at the end, but here we are the beginning. And yesterday we finished the book of Exodus, which brings us to a new book in the Old Testament that were beginning today.

Introduction to the book of Leviticus:

Leviticus is the third book of the Pentateuch or Torah and it’s written to the children of Israel and we’re in the middle of the desert at this point, right? So, we followed the children of Israel out of Egypt and slavery and into the wilderness and we’ve been kind of camped out at Mount Sinai, out in the middle of the desert for a bit and that’s where…that’s where we are at this point in the story. God is establishing the terms of the covenant between himself and the people that He set apart and chosen to be holy. And it’s been about a year since they’ve been out of Egypt and now the law is being given. And as we pay close attention we’ll sort of see a sub theme emerge out of the laws and statutes. Everything that they are commanded to do and obey and observe all has a spiritual underpinning. Everything that they do is to remind them of their spiritual reality and their holiness before God and their covenantal relationship with God. And holiness is a huge, huge thing to God. In fact, God tells them, “I am holy therefore, you will be holy”. And, of course, holy means set apart to God. So, God is saying, “if we’re gonna be in a relationship, right, if we’re gonna be communing together and enjoying each other’s company and fellowship with each other than this is gonna only happen through holiness.” So, you know, Leviticus, we get to this point in the year and this is when a lot of the New Year’s resolutions start wearing off. And we’re just a couple days post Valentine’s Day and that is usually the point where the community for the year is established, those who are gonna make it have decided to do it and it usually kind of corresponds to how well you’re doing with your other New Year’s resolutions, right? Some people are like, “I’m not reading Leviticus and I’m not eating any more boiled chicken and salad.” And that’s fine. I mean, we get to choose…we get to choose our lives, but what I’ve found over the years is that a lot of those people, a lot of that, if that’s you, if you’re like, “okay I just can't…like I just gotta get off this train”, pretty good chance that one year from today you may be right where you are right now. So, I’m telling all of us, we can do this, we can take this journey, we just have to understand the territory that we are moving through as we move through the Bible. Yeah, not all of it is like sit at the edge of your seat riveting page turner stuff. Some of it’s like we’re reading laws and laws aren’t the kind of literature that’s meant to be narrative or edge of your seat, but all of our societies would fall apart without our law books. And, so, we’re going to move through the law and understand its context so that when we come out the other side of the law and begin to move toward the Promise Land ee understand the lay of the land. And, so as we move through Leviticus and we talk about sacrifices and stuff like that we’ll find a lot of blood in this book because there’s a lot of sacrifice in it. And if we approach the Old Testament, a work that was inspired thousands of years ago from the perspective of the culture that we live in right now, right, back reading our culture into an ancient culture, then yeah, it’ll seem somewhat barbaric and certainly antiquated and perhaps even irrelevant, but it certainly wasn’t then. And what it all represents is certainly not all relevant now. It’s as relevant now as ever. And we may wonder why they would just start sacrificing animals and why would God want animal sacrifice. And to find that out how we’ve gotta go back to the beginning. It’s been six weeks. We read the account of the garden of Eden. We read of Adam and needs fall. And from that moment all of mankind was separated from God and worthy of destruction spiritually and physically. And remember that story when God came to the garden in the cool of the evening looking for Adam and Eve. They were hiding, and they eventually told God that they were afraid because they were naked. How God responds to that is telling. He covers them with the skins of animals. So, it was God who set this precedent of atonement and covering. It costs something to cover man and woman. It cost the life of an animal. And now we live in a culture after Jesus, where this idea of an atoning sacrifice isn’t something that we think about that much other than to just know that Jesus was a sacrifice once and for all. Okay, well, that sacrifice once and for all, we just…just read of that story in the Gospel of Matthew. It was barbaric, it was ugly, it was bloody, it was sad, and the more that we fall in the Jesus the more that we see Jesus at work in our lives, the more we realize that this didn’t happen to somebody we don’t know, this happened to our closest friend, but His sacrifice was once and for all. All that we needed, He took it all, blameless, willingly and we no longer need any other atonement. That’s the reality that we currently live in but the children of Israel back in the book as we start Leviticus, they don’t have that luxury. God is showing the children of Israel that to cover their sin comes at a great cost and requires the shedding of blood. It is a constant living cultural reminder for them that sin leads to death and we’ll see God sewing this into the fabric of the culture that He’s establishing, we’ll see the burnt offering, the grain offering, the peace offering, the sin offering, the trespass offering and how they’re to be given. And we’ll see the way things are to be consecrated and the consecration of priests and priest’s families and we’ll learn what’s considered clean and what’s considered unclean in the culture and we’ll discover the different festivals and feasts that have to be observed and the blessings and cursings, all against the backdrop of the utter holiness and sovereignty of God. And so, let’s embrace this journey as we move forward into and through the book of Leviticus. We’re reading from the Contemporary English Version this week and today we’ll read Leviticus chapters 1 through 3.

Prayer:

We thank You Father for another week in Your word, we thank You for all that You’ve spoken and it’s like every week You speak volumes into our lives, every week You touch soft tender places inside of us, either to correct us or to comfort and heal us, every day Your word has something for us and we are so deeply grateful. And, so, as we and this week You’ve brought us into new books in both the old and new Testaments for us to camp out in and enjoy as we move through the remainder of this month. And Father as we prepare to go back and experience the places where so many of these stories occurred in Israel in the land of the Bible we certainly pray Your protection, Your health, Your stamina, Your wisdom over all of it. Come Holy Spirit we pray in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.

The registration for the More Gathering for women, which will take place in the mountains of North Georgia just about an hour outside of Atlanta. Registration is open for that. You get all of the details at moregathering.com or go to dailyaudiobible.com and scroll down to the Initiatives section. Of course, you can see the Initiatives section on the Daily Audio Bible app as well, just got click the drawer icon in the upper left-hand corner. So, we are anticipating and excited and prayerful and hopeful for all that God is going to do on that mountaintop. And any of the you who have ever been, then you know that the God shows up for each of us in the way that we need Him to and it’s pretty remarkable. So, if coming…come this spring you feel like you might be looking for new life as new life comes to the earth, if maybe it’s been a long stretch for you and you need some perspective, this could be exactly what has been put in your path for a reason. So, pray into that. Hope to see you…hope to see you there.

And I mention we’re going back to the land of the Bible, that is upon us. I will be flying out on the big plane tomorrow and I it’s a long way, it’s a long flight. It’s not my favorite thing to do but I guess it beats walking, especially since I’d have to walk across the ocean, but jet lag can be difficult and logistics can be challenging. I mean there’s a lot of moving parts when, you know, you have buses of people who are all from all over the world and it has always been such a beautiful dance to see it all come together, but it has never happened without the intercession and prayer of God’s people in this community. And, so, wouldn’t dare get on that plane and go back over there again without knowing that there was a canopy of prayer being raised over that. And, so, I ask for your prayers, prayers of safety and travel, prayers for on time delivery of all of our guests who will be arriving on all kinds of different flights, prayer over stamina and health, and jet lag and logistics and all of these things as we prepare to pilgrimage around the land of the Bible. Now, yeah, this is gonna happen for a bunch of people in person but it’s always a community experience, it’s something that we do together, whether virtually or in person. And, so, we’ll be posting pictures and videos several times a day on our social media channels. Just as things happen we’ll be posting them up. So, be sure to stay connected that way so that you can kinda look in, not only to get a glimpse of what’s happening in the Daily Audio Bible community, who’s actually going to be in Israel, but also looking into sites that you’ve heard of, like names that you’ve heard of in the Bible, places that we’ve been to in the Bible. Those places are real places and they can come alive and we do everything that we possibly can to make that happen. And we’ll also be doing a live broadcast. We always do this once we reach the sea of Galilee. And we all get together and kind of debrief each other and invite the community in to ask questions and spend about an hour just together as a community virtually even though were spanning across time zones and even international datelines. And, so, we’ll keep you posted on that but thank you for your prayers. And if you are interested in perhaps being one of the of those who actually get to experience the land of the Bible in person next year in 2020, registration is now open for that, You can go to dailyaudiobible.com in the Initiatives section and find Israel 2020 and get all of the details that you would want to know, and get yourself registered. These trips always, at least for the last five or six years, they’ve always filled up and they’ve always been sold out, and we’ve always had a waiting list. So, I wouldn't…you know, if like, if it’s something that you’re like, “seriously, I do want to do that” then I wouldn't…I wouldn’t wait, but certainly there is time to pray into that. But you can you can now register for Israel 2020 at dailyaudiobible.com.

If you want to partner with the Daily Audio Bible, you can do that at dailyaudiobible.com. There is a link that lives on the homepage. If you’re using the Daily Audio Bible app, you can press the Give button in the upper right-hand corner or, if you prefer, the mailing address is PO Box 1996 Spring Hill Tennessee.

And as always, if you have a prayer request or comment, 877-942-4253 is the number to dial.

And that’s it for today. I’m Brian I love you and I’ll be waiting for you here tomorrow.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hey Daily Audio Bible family, this is Darrell, this is my second time calling, Darrell Georgia and absolutely love this. I drive a truck at night and this is absolutely a perfect way to get my food, get my daily soaking in God’s word. And Brian I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you and appreciate your passion for God. I am so on board with that passion. There’s no one like our great God. There is nobody like our Jesus and the presence of the Holy Spirit is sustenance for our lives, which brings me to my point. I think your name was T, I think that’s what you said, T, you’re young man and you called in and you’ve been listening since Thanksgiving of last year and you’re struggling with sensing the presence of God or you said the peace of God, you’re battling that. My encouragement to you is dwell on what the word of God says. Believe what the Bible says and what the Bible says is that God’s promises, “I will never leave you or forsake you.” So, the presence of God is there. He is there by your side, never doubt that. My encouragement to you, I believe, what I have experienced for myself is, if I’m feeling maybe empty or feeling like I’m not sensing His presence, I just talk to Him and I worship Him. I tell Him everything that He is to me, I tell Him how amazing He is, and I thank Him for all the little details in my life and that causes me to sense His presence. I hope that’s encouraging to you. My time is just about up. God bless you my brother.

This is a Lynn Song. I just started Daily Audio Bible this year. It’s very hard to call, I feel very vulnerable, but I need prayer for my husband. I wrote what I would say because I was afraid I would go blank. So, my husband has battled depression for years. He’s a musician and feels like a failure because his music has not taken him where he hoped it would. He is very gifted and talented, has made 20+ CDs. He writes things, composes, produces, plays multiple instruments but living in the Midwest makes it difficult. He struggles socially as well so it is challenging for him to market himself. Long story short, I prayed for him for years to for God’s will for him including that he would accept these circumstances if that is what God wants. I want us both to accept God’s will for our lives and I want him to be happy. I need help lifting my husband up in prayer and feel like I am Moses in need of assistance to hold my hands in the air until the battle is won. He came home tonight very depressed and discouraged. So, thank you. And I can’t stress enough, married 21 years and how long we’ve struggled with this. I don’t know if my time will run out, but I wanted to say I’ve been feeling __ hearing how many men are involved in DAB. So, calling for prayer and calling to pray for others. For some reason it’s given me hope for the body of Christ. So, I thank you for praying. I am praying for you all. Thank you so much.

Hi everybody it’s Margo from Australia and I’m now in Uganda. This is actually a bit of a test call to see what the lines like and whether it’s very clear and not working out which number to use. But I just wanted to let you know that I’m going quite well. Still have moments of being homesick but that’s __ and in between I have lots of joyful moments. I wanted to say thank you very much for everyone that’s praying for me. I did start writing down the names so I could thank everyone but I didn’t want to use up all my time just saying a list of names. So, if you’ve prayed for me, thank you so, so much. I did specifically though want to mention Treasured Possession. That word from the Lord, ahhh look, I cried. That was beautiful and encouraging and I’m so __. So, I’ve got a bit of a cold but other than that I’m doing well. I’m down…Uganda is an amazing place. There’s a couple of people who I did want to say that I’m praying for. Carl from Canada, you called, the quadriplegic __ it sounds like you’re having an awful time. I’m praying. Teresa in Texas with the alopecia, I really feel for you sister and I’m praying for you. And Karen from Pennsylvania, it sounds as though you’re having a very rough time and I’m praying for everyone and these couple of things are things that really made me…really touched my heart. I had a moment the other day where I was feeling a bit overwhelmed. I was standing in the supermarket and I just couldn’t work out where everything was and what to buy and everything was so different, and I didn’t understand the money. And I got so overwhelmed I cried out to Jesus in my heart. I had this beautiful image of Him standing beside me with His arm around my saying, “it’s okay Margo, we’ve got this” and I nearly cried right there. It was beautiful. And I wanted to share that because that is what your prayers are doing, allowing me to feel his peace. Okay. Love you all heaps. Bye.

Hey DAB family this is Byron out in Florida. I need you guys to pray for my son, Caleb who’s 12 years old. We’ve discovered that he’s picked up some fairly disturbing habits concerning his sexuality and we’re really concerned and worried about him. God is good because he felt bad enough about these things to confess them to us but still there’s a lot of work to be done for him to understand why these things are wrong and what he needs to do to walk the right path. We put a really tight rein on what our kids watch, what they read, and who they hang out with, but somewhere and there there’s a leak in the system for him to be doing some of the things that we’ve heard about. And he hasn’t really come forward with us about where he might’ve gotten some of these ideas from and that’s a concern. But I just need the warriors to come out and pray because the devil’s trying to take my boy. He knows the Lord, loves Him, and he’s just trying to separate him from his family and separate him from his God and separate him from himself and I can’t stand for that and I need my family pray. A lot of other stuff going on too but just if you could focus your prayers on that I’d really appreciate it. Love you all. Bye.

The Daily Audio Bible Reading for Saturday February 16, 2019 (NIV)

Leviticus 1-3

1-3 The Lord spoke to Moses from the sacred tent and gave him instructions for the community of Israel to follow when they offered sacrifices.

Sacrifices To Please the Lord

The Lord said:

Sacrifices to please me[a] must be completely burned on the bronze altar.[b]

Bulls or rams or goats[c] are the animals to be used for these sacrifices. If the animal is a bull, it must not have anything wrong with it. Lead it to the entrance of the sacred tent, and I will let you know if it is[d] acceptable to me. Lay your hand on its head, and I will accept the animal as a sacrifice for taking away your sins.

After the bull is killed in my presence, some priests from Aaron’s family will offer its blood to me by splattering it against the four sides of the altar.

Skin the bull and cut it up, while the priests pile wood on the altar fire to make it start blazing. 8-9 Wash the bull’s insides and hind legs, so the priests can lay them on the altar with the head, the fat, and the rest of the animal. A priest will then send all of it up in smoke with a smell that pleases me.

10 If you sacrifice a ram or a goat, it must not have anything wrong with it. 11 Lead the animal to the north side of the altar, where it is to be killed in my presence. Then some of the priests will splatter its blood against the four sides of the altar.

12-13 Cut up the animal and wash its insides and hind legs. A priest will put these parts on the altar with the head, the fat, and the rest of the animal. Then he will send all of it up in smoke with a smell that pleases me.

14 If you offer a bird for this kind of sacrifice, it must be a dove or a pigeon. 15 A priest will take the bird to the bronze altar, where he will wring its neck and put its head on the fire. Then he will drain out its blood on one side of the altar, 16 remove the bird’s craw with what is in it,[e] and throw them on the ash heap at the east side of the altar.[f] 17 Finally, he will take the bird by its wings, tear it partially open,[g] and send it up in smoke with a smell that pleases me.

Sacrifices To Give Thanks to the Lord

The Lord said:

When you offer sacrifices to give thanks to me,[h] you must use only your finest flour. Put it in a dish, sprinkle olive oil and incense on the flour, and take it to the priests from Aaron’s family. One of them will scoop up the incense together with a handful of the flour and oil. Then, to show that the whole offering belongs to me, the priest will lay this part on the bronze altar and send it up in smoke with a smell that pleases me. The rest of this sacrifice is for the priests; it is very holy because it was offered to me.

If you bake bread in an oven for this sacrifice, use only your finest flour, but without any yeast. You may make the flour into a loaf mixed with olive oil, or you may make it into thin wafers and brush them with oil.

If you cook bread in a shallow pan for this sacrifice, use only your finest flour. Mix it with olive oil, but do not use any yeast. Then break the bread into small pieces and sprinkle them with oil. If you cook your bread in a pan with a lid on it, you must also use the finest flour mixed with oil.

You may prepare sacrifices to give thanks in any of these three ways. Bring your sacrifice to a priest, and he will take it to the bronze altar. Then, to show that the whole offering belongs to me, the priest will lay part of it on the altar and send it up in smoke with a smell that pleases me. 10 The rest of this sacrifice is for the priests; it is very holy because it was offered to me.

11 Yeast and honey must never be burned on the altar, so don’t ever mix either of these in a grain sacrifice. 12 You may offer either of them separately,[i] when you present the first part of your harvest to me, but they must never be burned on the altar.

13 Salt is offered when you make an agreement with me, so sprinkle salt on these sacrifices.

14 Freshly cut grain, either roasted or coarsely ground,[j] must be used when you offer the first part of your grain harvest. 15 You must mix in some olive oil and put incense on top, because this is a grain sacrifice. 16 A priest will sprinkle all of the incense and some of the grain and oil on the altar and send them up in smoke to show that the whole offering belongs to me.

Sacrifices To Ask the Lord’s Blessing

The Lord said:

When you offer sacrifices to ask my blessing,[k] you may offer either a bull or a cow, but there must be nothing wrong with the animal. Lead it to the entrance of the sacred tent, lay your hand on its head, and have it killed there. A priest from Aaron’s family will splatter its blood against the four sides of the altar.

Offer all of the fat on the animal’s insides, as well as the lower part of the liver and the two kidneys with their fat. Some of the priests will lay these pieces on the altar and send them up in smoke with a smell that pleases me, together with the sacrifice that is offered to please me.[l]

Instead of a bull or a cow, you may offer any sheep or goat that has nothing wrong with it. If you offer a sheep, you must present it to me at the entrance to the sacred tent. Lay your hand on its head and have it killed there. A priest will then splatter its blood against the four sides of the altar.

Offer the fat on the tail, the tailbone, and the insides, 10 as well as the lower part of the liver and the two kidneys with their fat. 11 One of the priests will lay these pieces on the altar and send them up in smoke as a food offering for me.

12 If you offer a goat, you must also present it to me 13 at the entrance to the sacred tent. Lay your hand on its head and have it killed there. A priest will then splatter its blood against the four sides of the altar.

14 Offer all of the fat on the animal’s insides, 15 as well as the lower part of the liver and the two kidneys with their fat. 16 One of the priests will put these pieces on the altar and send them up in smoke as a food offering with a smell that pleases me.

All fat belongs to me. 17 So you and your descendants must never eat any fat or any blood, not even in the privacy of your own homes.[m] This law will never change.

Footnotes:

  1. 1.1-3 Sacrifices to please me: These sacrifices have traditionally been called “whole burnt offerings” because the whole animal was burned on the altar. A main purpose of such sacrifices was to please the Lord with the smell of the sacrifice, and so in the CEV they are often called “sacrifices to please the Lord.”
  2. 1.1-3 bronze altar: This altar for offering sacrifices was in front of the entrance to the sacred tent; it was made of acacia wood covered with bronze. A smaller altar for offering incense was inside the tent; it was made of acacia wood covered with gold.
  3. 1.1-3 goats: Hebrew “male goats.”
  4. 1.1-3 if it is: Or “if you are.”
  5. 1.16 with what is in it: One possible meaning for the difficult Hebrew text.
  6. 1.16 ash heap at the east side of the altar: Ashes were piled here, then once a day they were taken to the ash heap outside the camp (see 4.11,12; 6.10,11).
  7. 1.17 tear it partially open: Or “tear it open without pulling off the wings.”
  8. 2.1 sacrifices to give thanks to me: These sacrifices have traditionally been called “grain offerings.” A main purpose of such sacrifices was to thank the Lord with a gift of grain, and so in the CEV they are sometimes called “sacrifices to give thanks to the Lord.”
  9. 2.12 You. . . separately: One possible meaning for the difficult Hebrew text.
  10. 2.14 either. . . ground: Or “roasted and coarsely ground.”
  11. 3.1 sacrifices to ask my blessing: These sacrifices have traditionally been called “peace offerings” or “offerings of well-being.” A main purpose was to ask for the Lord’s blessing, and so in the CEV they are sometimes called “sacrifices to ask the Lord’s blessing.”
  12. 3.5 sacrifice. . . to please me: See the note at 1.1-3.
  13. 3.17 not even. . . homes: Or “no matter where you live.”

Mark 1:29-2:12

Jesus Heals Many People

29 As soon as Jesus left the meeting place with James and John, they went home with Simon and Andrew. 30 When they got there, Jesus was told that Simon’s mother-in-law was sick in bed with fever. 31 Jesus went to her. He took hold of her hand and helped her up. The fever left her, and she served them a meal.

32 That evening after sunset,[a] all who were sick or had demons in them were brought to Jesus. 33 In fact, the whole town gathered around the door of the house. 34 Jesus healed all kinds of terrible diseases and forced out a lot of demons. But the demons knew who he was, and he did not let them speak.

35 Very early the next morning, Jesus got up and went to a place where he could be alone and pray. 36 Simon and the others started looking for him. 37 And when they found him, they said, “Everyone is looking for you!”

38 Jesus replied, “We must go to the nearby towns, so that I can tell the good news to those people. This is why I have come.” 39 Then Jesus went to Jewish meeting places everywhere in Galilee, where he preached and forced out demons.

Jesus Heals a Man

40 A man with leprosy[b] came to Jesus and knelt down.[c] He begged, “You have the power to make me well, if only you wanted to.”

41 Jesus felt sorry for[d] the man. So he put his hand on him and said, “I want to! Now you are well.” 42 At once the man’s leprosy disappeared, and he was well.

43 After Jesus strictly warned the man, he sent him on his way. 44 He said, “Don’t tell anyone about this. Just go and show the priest that you are well. Then take a gift to the temple as Moses commanded, and everyone will know that you have been healed.”[e]

45 The man talked about it so much and told so many people, that Jesus could no longer go openly into a town. He had to stay away from the towns, but people still came to him from everywhere.

Jesus Heals a Crippled Man

Jesus went back to Capernaum, and a few days later people heard that he was at home.[f] Then so many of them came to the house that there wasn’t even standing room left in front of the door.

Jesus was still teaching when four people came up, carrying a crippled man on a mat. But because of the crowd, they could not get him to Jesus. So they made a hole in the roof[g] above him and let the man down in front of everyone.

When Jesus saw how much faith they had, he said to the crippled man, “My friend, your sins are forgiven.”

Some of the teachers of the Law of Moses were sitting there. They started wondering, “Why would he say such a thing? He must think he is God! Only God can forgive sins.”

Right away, Jesus knew what they were thinking, and he said, “Why are you thinking such things? Is it easier for me to tell this crippled man that his sins are forgiven or to tell him to get up and pick up his mat and go on home? 10 I will show you that the Son of Man has the right to forgive sins here on earth.” So Jesus said to the man, 11 “Get up! Pick up your mat and go on home.”

12 The man got right up. He picked up his mat and went out while everyone watched in amazement. They praised God and said, “We have never seen anything like this!”

Footnotes:

  1. 1.32 after sunset: The Sabbath was over, and a new day began at sunset.
  2. 1.40 leprosy: In biblical times the word “leprosy” was used for many different kinds of skin diseases.
  3. 1.40 and knelt down: These words are not in some manuscripts.
  4. 1.41 felt sorry for: Some manuscripts have “was angry with.”
  5. 1.44 everyone will know that you have been healed: People with leprosy had to be examined by a priest and told that they were well (that is, “clean”) before they could once again live a normal life in the Jewish community. The gift that Moses commanded was the sacrifice of some lambs together with flour mixed with olive oil.
  6. 2.1 at home: Or “in the house” (perhaps Simon Peter’s home).
  7. 2.4 roof: In Palestine the houses usually had a flat roof. Stairs on the outside led up to the roof that was made of beams and boards covered with packed earth.

Psalm 35:17-28

17 But all you do is watch!
When will you do something?
Save me from the attack
of those vicious lions.
18 And when your people meet,
I will praise you
and thank you, Lord,
in front of them all.

19 Don’t let my brutal enemies
be glad because of me.
They hate me for no reason.
Don’t let them wink
behind my back.
20 They say hurtful things,
and they lie to people
who want to live in peace.
21 They are quick to accuse me.
They say, “You did it!
We saw you ourselves.”

22 You see everything, Lord!
Please don’t keep silent
or stay so far away.
23 Fight to defend me, Lord God,
24 and prove that I am right
by your standards.
Don’t let them laugh at me
25 or say to each other,
“Now we’ve got what we want!
We’ll gobble him down!”

26 Disappoint and confuse
all who are glad
to see me in trouble,
but disgrace and embarrass
my proud enemies
who say to me,
“You are nothing!”

27 Let all who want me to win
be happy and joyful.
From now on let them say,
“The Lord is wonderful!
God is glad when all goes well
for his servant.”
28 Then I will shout all day,
“Praise the Lord God!
He did what was right.”

Proverbs 9:13-18

A Foolish Invitation

13 Stupidity[a] is reckless,
senseless, and foolish.
14 She sits in front of her house
and on the highest hills
in the town.
15 She shouts to everyone
who passes by,
16 “If you are stupid,
come on inside!”
And to every fool she says,
17 “Stolen water tastes best,
and the food you eat in secret
tastes best of all.”
18 None who listen to Stupidity
understand
that her guests
are as good as dead.

Exodus 39:1-40:38, Mark 1:1-28, Psalms 35:1-16, Proverbs 9:11-12

Today is the 15th day of February. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I’m Brian, it is wonderful to be here with you today. Hope you had a nice Valentine’s Day yesterday. We concluded the book of Matthew. So, the first gospel, the first book of the New Testament yesterday. So, when we get to the New Testament today we’ll be beginning the book of Mark and we’ll talk about that. And today we will be concluding the second book of the Old Testament, the book of Exodus and we’ll move on from there tomorrow. So, we’re reading from the Contemporary English Version this week and we’ll conclude the book of Exodus with chapters 39 and 40 today.

Introduction to the book of Mark:

Okay. So, that concluded the book of Exodus and like we said a minute ago, we finished the book of Matthew yesterday, which brings us to the gospel of Mark. And, so, we should know right off the bat that Mark was not a disciple of Jesus, he wasn’t one of the 12 and he wasn’t an apostle. Actually he was more of a long-term disciple of Peter and we first see him show up in the book of Acts. We also know him as John Mark and he lived in Jerusalem and came from a fairly wealthy family. His mother’s name was Mary and she had a big house and she had a servant named Rhoda. I mean we learn all of this from the book of Acts. She was an early believer and opened her home to other early believers and our church tradition tells us that her home may have been the place of the upper room where the Holy Spirit was poured out on the early believers after Jesus ascension. Obviously, that’s not explicit in the Bible, it’s tradition but totally plausible. So, Mark was around all this all his life, like even as a boy and would’ve been part of the first generation of children that were raised up to know Jesus was. So, we’ll get to the story soon enough, once we finish the Gospels a little bit more towards the summertime, but the apostle Peter was captured by Herod and was gonna be executed by Herod because Herod had put some other Christians to death and this was pleasing the religious leaders and so on and so forth and so he planned to execute Peter but an angel came and sprung Peter from jail. And, so, it was to John Mark’s house, right, to Mary’s large home that that Peter went first. And all the believers there were praying for Peter earnestly, that God would deliver him, and God answered that prayer by sending an angel to lead Peter out of jail. And, so, Peter comes to John Mark’s house and Rhoda the servant girl comes to answer the door and she sees him, and she slams the door in his face, basically because she can’t believe it’s Peter. And, so, we’ll get to that story soon enough but that gives a little bit about who Mark is. And Mark had a cousin and his name is Barnabas and Barnabas was a dear friend of the apostle Paul. So, Mark actually goes with Barnabas and Paul on Paul’s first missionary journey. So, this there’s a pedigree here and church tradition tells us that he went all over the place as an interpreter even for the apostle Peter in Italy and even in Rome and everywhere that they go Peter shares the gospel of Jesus Christ. So, Mark has heard the story told by Peter over and over and over everywhere that they go as Peter is doing his evangelistic work and then Mark remembers all of this and recalls it and maybe even at some point was asked to write it down so people could remember all of Peter’s story and eventually does. And, so, in a lot of ways we can consider Mark to be somewhat the gospel according to Peter. And, I mean, nearly all biblical scholars agree that the gospel of Mark was the first gospel written and definitely the earliest gospel found in the New Testament. And it’s from the gospel of Mark that Matthew and Luke draw a lot of their material and that is why Matthew, Mark, and Luke are known as the synoptic Gospels because they share a lot of the same material. Although Mark’s gospel is the earliest most rudimentary of the Gospels. And even Greek scholars look at the gospel of Mark which was written in Greek and would say like, you know, it’s like an elementary school level language, it’s written really roughly, like its not written beautifully, as nice prose, it’s actually clunky, which actually kind of makes it beautiful because it’s like what were about to do is read the first written account of Jesus life and ministry. So, let’s settle into that and just let it speak to us, let it wash into our lives. Ans, so, we begin. Mark chapter 1 verses 1 through 28.

Prayer:

Father, we thank you for your word and we heed the voice of wisdom today. “If you follow me”, She tells us, “we’ll live a long time.” And if we have good sense that’s good for us but if you don’t and we fall into arrogance then we’re just hurting ourselves. So, Holy Spirit, plant that in our lives. We learned yesterday from the book of Proverbs that we begin by honoring you Lord, this is the beginning of wisdom, but not the end. It’s just the beginning when we honor you. We’ve taken the first step toward being wise, toward living a wise life; however, if we will follow your Holy Spirit’s guidance in our lives and we continue to honor you and continue to listen to the voice of wisdom and obey then we’re going to be the ones to benefit. Help us to do that Lord because so often we listen to the counsel of the scoffer or the mocker and we’re anywhere but next to wisdom. But we want to string together a series of days and weeks and months where every day we are honoring you and every day we are listening to the voice of wisdom. And if we can string these days together, then it won’t be too long before we realize that we are living within wisdom, we are living wise lives, and we are becoming wise. We need this. As we just stand here and look back over the seasons of our live it is so starkly apparent which seasons we didn’t practice wisdom at all and which seasons did. Now we want the rest of our lives to be one long continuous season of wisdom where we continue to grow not only in wisdom but in awareness and vigilance so that we are wise, so that we have grown up, so that we become a mature son or daughter of the king. Help us Holy Spirit, come lead us in the way of wisdom we pray. In Jesus’ name we ask. Amen.

I mean, a new season is coming, and we don’t have all of the answers, but we know that the Lord has told us that this season in Georgia on Sharp Top mountain, this is the last year we’re supposed to do this, at least for now, there. So, it’s kind of a real celebration because the More Gathering was birthed and has only ever been there. So, it’s gonna be quite an amazing time and we have a sense of deep anticipation as we pray into this spring. So, you can get all the details at moregathering.com or go to dailyaudiobible.com and just scroll down to the Initiatives section and you’ll find what you’re looking for. All the details are there. All the questions are answered and hope to see you, as here in the northern hemisphere, as the seasons change and new life begins to come back to the earth, as winter begins to dissipate, this is when this happens and it is lovely. So, hope to see you there.

The other thing that we are praying into and praying over is the pilgrimage that we’re about to take to the land of the Bible in just a couple of days. So, thank you for your prayers.

Exodus 39-40

Making the Priestly Clothes

39 Beautiful priestly clothes were made of blue, purple, and red wool for Aaron to wear when he performed his duties in the holy place. This was done exactly as the Lord had commanded Moses.

2-3 The entire priestly vest was made of fine linen, woven with blue, purple, and red wool. Thin sheets of gold were hammered out and cut into threads that were skillfully woven into the vest. 4-5 It had two shoulder straps to support it and a sash that fastened around the waist. Onyx[a] stones were placed in gold settings, and each one was engraved with the name of one of Israel’s sons. Then these were attached to the shoulder straps of the vest, so the Lord would never forget his people. Everything was done exactly as the Lord had commanded Moses.

The Breastpiece

The breastpiece was made with the same materials and designs as the priestly vest. It was nine inches square and folded double 10 with four rows of three precious stones: A carnelian, a chrysolite, and an emerald were in the first row; 11 a turquoise, a sapphire, and a diamond were in the second row; 12 a jacinth, an agate, and an amethyst were in the third row; 13 and a beryl, an onyx, and a jasper[b] were in the fourth row. They were mounted in a delicate gold setting, 14 and on each of them was engraved the name of one of the twelve tribes of Israel.

15-18 Two gold rings were attached to the upper front corners of the breastpiece and fastened with two braided gold chains to gold settings on the shoulder straps. 19 Two other gold rings were attached to the lower inside corners next to the vest, 20 and two more near the bottom of the shoulder straps right above the sash. 21 To keep the breastpiece in place, a blue cord was used to tie the two lower rings on the breastpiece to those on the vest. These things were done exactly as the Lord had commanded Moses.

The Clothes for the Priests

22 The priestly robe was made of blue wool 23 with an opening in the center for the head. The material around the collar was bound so as to keep it from raveling. 24-26 Along the hem of the robe were woven pomegranates[c] of blue, purple, and red wool with a bell of pure gold between each of them. This robe was to be worn by Aaron when he performed his duties.

27-29 Everything that Aaron and his sons wore was made of fine linen woven with blue, purple, and red wool, including their robes and turbans, their fancy caps and underwear, and even their sashes that were embroidered with needlework.

30 “Dedicated to the Lord” was engraved on a narrow strip of pure gold, 31 which was fastened to Aaron’s turban. These things were done exactly as the Lord had commanded Moses.

The Work Is Completed

32 So the people of Israel finished making everything the Lord had told Moses to make. 33 Then they brought it all to Moses: the sacred tent and its equipment, including the hooks, the framework and crossbars, and its posts and stands; 34 the covering of tanned ram skins and fine leather; the inside curtain; 35 the sacred chest with its carrying poles and the place of mercy; 36 the table with all that goes on it, including the sacred bread; 37 the lampstand of pure gold, together with its equipment and oil; 38 the gold-covered incense altar; the ordination oil and the sweet-smelling incense; the curtain for the entrance to the tent; 39 the bronze altar for sacrifices with its bronze grating, its carrying poles, and its equipment; the large bronze bowl with its stand; 40 the curtain with its posts and cords, and its pegs and stands that go around the courtyard; everything needed for the sacred tent; 41 and the finely woven priestly clothes for Aaron and his sons.

42-43 When Moses saw that the people had done everything exactly as the Lord had commanded, he gave them his blessing.

The Lord’s Tent Is Set Up

40 The Lord said to Moses:

Set up my tent on the first day of the year[d] and put the chest with the Ten Commandments behind the inside curtain[e] of the tent. Bring in the table and set on it those things that are made for it. Also bring in the lampstand and attach the lamps to it. Then place the gold altar of incense in front of the sacred chest and hang a curtain at the entrance to the tent. Set the altar for burning sacrifices in front of the entrance to my tent. Put the large bronze bowl between the tent and the altar and fill the bowl with water. Surround the tent and the altar with the wall of curtains and hang the curtain that was made for the entrance.

Use the sacred olive oil to dedicate the tent and everything in it to me. 10 Do the same thing with the altar for offering sacrifices and its equipment 11 and with the bowl and its stand. 12 Bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance of the tent and have them wash themselves. 13 Dress Aaron in the priestly clothes, then use the sacred olive oil to ordain him and dedicate him to me as my priest. 14 Put the priestly robes on Aaron’s sons 15 and ordain them in the same way, so they and their descendants will always be my priests.

16 Moses followed the Lord’s instructions. 17 And on the first day of the first month[f] of the second year, the sacred tent was set up. 18 The posts, stands, and framework were put in place, 19 then the two layers of coverings were hung over them. 20 The stones with the Ten Commandments written on them were stored in the sacred chest, the place of mercy[g] was put on top of it, and the carrying poles were attached. 21 The chest was brought into the tent and set behind the curtain in the most holy place. These things were done exactly as the Lord had commanded Moses.

22 The table for the sacred bread was put along the north wall of the holy place, 23 after which the bread was set on the table. 24 The lampstand was put along the south wall, 25 then the lamps were attached to it there in the presence of the Lord. 26 The gold incense altar was set up in front of the curtain, 27 and sweet-smelling incense was burned on it. These things were done exactly as the Lord had commanded Moses.

28 The curtain was hung at the entrance to the sacred tent. 29 Then the altar for offering sacrifices was put in front of the tent, and animal sacrifices and gifts of grain were offered there. 30 The large bronze bowl was placed between the altar and the entrance to the tent. It was filled with water, 31 then Moses and Aaron, together with Aaron’s sons, washed their hands and feet. 32 In fact, they washed each time before entering the tent or offering sacrifices at the altar. These things were done exactly as the Lord had commanded Moses.

33 Finally, Moses had the curtain hung around the courtyard.

The Glory of the Lord

34 Suddenly the sacred tent was covered by a thick cloud and filled with the glory of the Lord. 35 And so, Moses could not enter the tent. 36 Whenever the cloud moved from the tent, the people would break camp and follow; 37 then they would set up camp and stay there, until it moved again. 38 No matter where the people traveled, the Lord was with them. Each day his cloud was over the tent, and each night a fire could be seen in the cloud.

Mark 1:1-28

The Preaching of John the Baptist

This is the good news about Jesus Christ, the Son of God.[a] It began just as God had said in the book written by Isaiah the prophet,

“I am sending my messenger
to get the way ready
for you.
In the desert
someone is shouting,
‘Get the road ready
for the Lord!
Make a straight path
for him.’”

So John the Baptist showed up in the desert and told everyone, “Turn back to God and be baptized! Then your sins will be forgiven.”

From all Judea and Jerusalem crowds of people went to John. They told how sorry they were for their sins, and he baptized them in the Jordan River.

John wore clothes made of camel’s hair. He had a leather strap around his waist and ate grasshoppers and wild honey.

John also told the people, “Someone more powerful is going to come. And I am not good enough even to stoop down and untie his sandals.[b] I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit!”

The Baptism of Jesus

About that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee, and John baptized him in the Jordan River. 10 As soon as Jesus came out of the water, he saw the sky open and the Holy Spirit coming down to him like a dove. 11 A voice from heaven said, “You are my own dear Son, and I am pleased with you.”

Jesus and Satan

12 Right away God’s Spirit made Jesus go into the desert. 13 He stayed there for forty days while Satan tested him. Jesus was with the wild animals, but angels took care of him.

Jesus Begins His Work

14 After John was arrested, Jesus went to Galilee and told the good news that comes from God.[c] 15 He said, “The time has come! God’s kingdom will soon be here.[d] Turn back to God and believe the good news!”

Jesus Chooses Four Fishermen

16 As Jesus was walking along the shore of Lake Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew. They were fishermen and were casting their nets into the lake. 17 Jesus said to them, “Come with me! I will teach you how to bring in people instead of fish.” 18 Right then the two brothers dropped their nets and went with him.

19 Jesus walked on and soon saw James and John, the sons of Zebedee. They were in a boat, mending their nets. 20 At once Jesus asked them to come with him. They left their father in the boat with the hired workers and went with him.

A Man with an Evil Spirit

21 Jesus and his disciples went to the town of Capernaum. Then on the next Sabbath he went into the Jewish meeting place and started teaching. 22 Everyone was amazed at his teaching. He taught with authority, and not like the teachers of the Law of Moses. 23 Suddenly a man with an evil spirit[e] in him entered the meeting place and yelled, 24 “Jesus from Nazareth, what do you want with us? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are! You are God’s Holy One.”

25 Jesus told the evil spirit, “Be quiet and come out of the man!” 26 The spirit shook him. Then it gave a loud shout and left.

27 Everyone was completely surprised and kept saying to each other, “What is this? It must be some new kind of powerful teaching! Even the evil spirits obey him.” 28 News about Jesus quickly spread all over Galilee.

Footnotes:

  1. 1.1 the Son of God: These words are not in some manuscripts.
  2. 1.7 untie his sandals: This was the duty of a slave.
  3. 1.14 that comes from God: Or “that is about God.”
  4. 1.15 will soon be here: Or “is already here.”
  5. 1.23 evil spirit: A Jewish person who had an evil spirit was considered “unclean” and was not allowed to eat or worship with other Jewish people.

Psalm 35:1-16

(A psalm by David.)

A Prayer for Protection from Enemies

35 Fight my enemies, Lord!
Attack my attackers!
Shield me and help me.
Aim your spear at everyone
who hunts me down,
but promise to save me.

Let all who want to kill me
be disappointed
and disgraced.
Chase away and confuse
all who plan to harm me.
Send your angel after them
and let them be like straw
in the wind.
Make them run in the dark
on a slippery road,
as your angel chases them.
I did them no harm,
but they hid a net
to trap me,
and they dug a deep pit
to catch and kill me.
Surprise them with disaster!
Trap them in their own nets
and let them fall and rot
in the pits they have dug.

I will celebrate and be joyful
because you, Lord,
have saved me.
10 Every bone in my body
will shout:
“No one is like the Lord!”
You protect the helpless
from those in power;
you save the poor and needy
from those who hurt them.

11 Liars accuse me of crimes
I know nothing about.
12 They repay evil for good,
and I feel all alone.
13 When they were sick,
I wore sackcloth[a]
and went without food.[b]
I truly prayed for them,[c]
14 as I would for a friend
or a relative.
I was in sorrow and mourned,
as I would for my mother.

15 I have stumbled,
and worthless liars
I don’t even know
surround me and sneer.
16 Worthless people make fun[d]
and never stop laughing.

Footnotes:

  1. 35.13 sackcloth: See the note at 30.11.
  2. 35.13 went without food: People sometimes went without food (called “fasting”) to show sorrow.
  3. 35.13 I. . . them: Or “My prayer wasn’t answered, but I prayed.”
  4. 35.16 Worthless. . . fun: One possible meaning for the difficult Hebrew text.

Proverbs 9:11-12

11 I am Wisdom.
If you follow me,
you will live a long time.
12 Good sense is good for you,
but if you brag,
you hurt yourself.

Exodus 37:1-38:31, Matthew 28:1-20, Psalms 34:11-22, Proverbs 9:9-10

Today is the 14th day of February. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian and happy Valentine’s Day for all you lovers in the world. So, here we are, center of the second month of the year. We’re working our way through the book of Exodus. We’ll actually complete the book of Exodus tomorrow and we will conclude the first gospel in the New Testament, the book of Matthew today. So, we’re reading from the Contemporary English Version this week. Exodus chapter 37 and 38.

Prayer:

Father, we thank you for your word. We thank you for bringing us to the conclusion of the first gospel and the story of your resurrection, the story of all stories. We thank you for rescuing our hearts. We thank you for redeeming our souls. We thank you for aligning us to your will and your ways and inviting us near so we can come into your presence with boldness as children. That is almost unfathomably good news. And, so, we thank you Father for your word that instructs us in these things and reveals to us the narrow path that leads to life and we invite your Holy Spirit to lead us into all truth. And on this day that we commemorate love in the world, we love you, we love you with all of our hearts, we love you above all others. And through that love and that intimacy and that union we can love those around us because we are loving them with your love. Come Holy Spirit and help us to spread love throughout the earth today we pray. In Jesus’ name we ask. Amen.

Announcements:

dailyaudiobible.com is the website, and its home base, and it’s where you find out what’s going on around here.

And, yeah, in just a couple of days from now we will be leaving for the land of the Bible but this is Valentine’s Day and I have invited my Valentine my, my, my best friend, my all, I mean, I don’t know what I would without my wife. So, I have invited her to come talk to you about our upcoming More Gathering for women that will take place this April in the mountains of North Georgia. So, welcome, welcome Jill.

Jill: Thank you, babe. I probably should’ve got you something better than I did after that. Happy Valentine’s Day everyone. Happy Valentine’s Day to you, those of you who are in waiting and in hopes of a Valentine someday. So, this is where I usually talk to the men, to the husbands. So, if that’s you, ladies you are excused from the moment. Go get your nails done, go get a cup of coffee, go get a cupcake. If you are not married, Fathers I would also ask you to lend your ear this way and maybe women who are still on the fence thinking about coming to More. I don’t know what I could say to you that hasn’t already been said as far as what you might experience at More. I truly believe as women most of us if not all of us live with a secret desire, the secret longing, hope, secret cry or prayer or desperation that there has to be something more than this. I am supposed to be something or someone more than who I am. I feel as women we live under an umbrella, a secret umbrella of shame that we need to be doing more than what we are and we need to be doing more better than what we are doing. Now, this might not be all women. I meet a lot of women on the road, I meet with a lot of women throughout the week and this is what I’m hearing. I see your tears, I hear you apologize for your tears, I hear you say I don’t even know why I’m crying or where these came from. That tells me you are living alone with thoughts and there are few safe places to let those thoughts, those feelings, those emotions go. So, husbands, fathers, significant others, if you have heard your wife, your daughter, your sister, if you’ve heard any of these women voice any of these emotions, any of these thoughts, then she should be at More. We have created a very safe place to validate a woman’s emotions, a woman’s longing, a woman’s fears, a woman’s lies that are trapped inside their mind, but we’re not stopping at validation, we are exploring this together. I have a team of women who are willing to be vulnerable to talk about their pain, their shame, their hurt. So, we’re going to validate the secret that most women live with, we’re going to explore it together, we’re going to dig deep. This is not your fluffy women’s conference. We’re gonna dig deep, we’re gonna get healed and set free from some things and we are going to teach women who they are and let them lose to be all that God created them to be. So, this is me imploring you men, husbands, grandfathers, brothers, if you have a woman that needs to be there, if you have a woman who is lost, who is overwhelmed, who does not know who she is or where she’s going, who feels like she is spiraling out of control, please send her to More and give her one of the greatest gifts you could ever give. Now, women I’m gonna talk to you again because this might be the last time I get to talk about More before the gathering. So, we’re still a couple of months away. Some of you are still on the fence, some of you are really afraid ,some of you hate women’s gatherings. I get it. I do too. I did too. That’s why it’s so funny that God has had me create a whole conference for women. I hated them too, but it was actually at a women’s conference, Captivating in Colorado with the ministry of Ransomed Heart with John and Stacy Eldridge where God completely healed me and showed me who I am in Him. So, this was our starting point, our starting point was Captivating to reiterate the message of captivating. It has slowly morphed and was birthed into something more. Ironic don’t you think? No, that’s just Jesus. This is what He does. So, ladies, you’ve he decided to get there. You’re gonna sign up, you’re gonna bite the bullet, you’re gonna do this thing, you’re going for it, let me tell you some things that you absolutely will have to hear and trust me in this process but hold onto these words. You will have to fight the fear to there. Once you say yes every possible thing that could be used against you that would hinder you from getting there will happen. You will think that you’re going to be alone and isolation will prevent you. You might snore and so you’ll say, “I don’t want to be in a room full of women.” Guess what, you will be with fellow snorers. You already feel alone, you’re worried about going alone and remaining alone. Guess what? That is not true. You will leave with some of the deepest friendships, relationships, that you have ever had and it might be women clear across the country but we have this beautiful thing called the Internet that keeps us connected. You’re going to say that you have a special diet. Fantastic. A lot of women do. We have an incredible chef who will meet every dietary need possible. Maybe you’re older, you can’t walk well, but you would really like to come. Guess what? We can accommodate you as well. We have ways to meet every need possible, but you will have to fight through to say yes. And what I am most excited about this year is two things that God has highlighted for us. One is we are continuing to move forward for the deaf community. God has provided two American Sign Language interpreters, two ASL interpreters for More 2019. Here’s the thing. God has equipped us with two ASL interpreters and our greatest form and tool of marketing is an audible podcast. So, we will need your help. If you have a deaf friend or sister, could you help us spread the word and let them know. This is undoubtedly something that God is doing and I know this because it’s beyond my realm of anything. I think I know two words in what Ezekiel calls “silent language”, is that not precious? So, but this is a dream that one of my team members had, “we’ve got to take this to the deaf community.” God has provided a way for that. We would love it if you could help us spread the word. The second thing is, this is not a conference we typically say, “yes mothers and daughters come together.” Here’s why, there’s some really personal work that women have to do here. It is so difficult sometimes to do work that we need to do when we feel like we need to nurture another woman. And, so, it’s really difficult for a mom to come out of the role of a mom to first be a daughter. However, we have had such an unprecedented amount of mothers and daughters register together this year that we just had to stop telling women that we advise against it and we’re rolling with it. Because of the amount of women signing up together we felt like this is directly what Jesus is inviting us into this year because sometimes we put these boundaries in, these healthy parameters up, you know, “oh no, we need to protect the women” and then times like this He just…He just makes it known that the boundaries are being blown into shreds. And, so, we are we are acknowledging the amount of mothers and daughters coming together, we are welcoming you. So, what I want to say to you all the way now, two and half months out from conference, from More, is that if you are a mother coming with your daughter I need you to get into the place and the mindset that you are coming first and foremost as a daughter. We are not all mothers coming but we are all daughters. And, so, we’ve got to stay in the mindset that first and foremost, we are a daughter first before we are anything and we are daughter of the most-high King. We are a daughter to that woman that carried us in her womb for nine months. And I think if you can remember that in this context and we’ll remind you at the conference, all throughout the weekend, but if you can come in first as a daughter I think you you’re gonna have a completely different experience. Daughters, if you’re coming with your mother or you’re considering coming with your mother, I’m gonna ask you to get into the headspace and the heart, please be mindful that she is coming first as a daughter and that will make more sense at the conference, but even right now you need…if you could consider that then maybe even some of you that are on the fence about whether you can come do this thing together, maybe that will compel you forward. So, the invitation has been given, the invitation is extended, the invitation is in my hand, my hand is reached out, and I would be absolutely thrilled if you just accepted the invite and placed that invitation in your hand and say, “yes”. This is not a numbers game for us. This is not…this is not an ego stroke of we've…we've…we’ve gotten the best number that we ever have this year. We pray for a number every year and that number already has been exceeded. And truly what I wish everyone to know is this is the work of my heart, of my life, that I feel like everything I have been through in life has come down to this moment. I have told the Lord time after time after time again that I say yes, I give my life to showing women who they are in You and watching them be set free, watching them live the life that God intended for them to live. Nothing brings me greater joy. Nothing gives me more sense of fulfillment and purpose and I will not stop until every woman that is within my capability, my sphere of earshot, knows who they are in Jesus, because when I…I firmly believe when we know who we are, when we know whose we are it does not matter what He’s asked of us. We say yes, and we go in full abandon towards Him and what He has for us and that will set the world on fire, that will change the world we live in. I don’t want to just pray for change and hope for change and wait for somebody else to change things, I want to be the change and I want you to be the change as well. So, will you come with me to More 2019, April 11-14 in Jasper, Georgia? If you are saying yes, you can sign up. www.moregathering.com or you can go to www.dailyaudiobible and scroll down until you see the More Gathering page. That’s it for me. Happy Valentine’s Day. I love you all. Each and every one. Love one another.

The Daily Audio Bible Reading for Thursday February 14, 2019 (NIV)

Exodus 37-38

The Sacred Chest

37 Bezalel built a chest of acacia wood forty-five inches long, twenty-seven inches wide, and twenty-seven inches high. He covered it inside and out with pure gold and put a gold edging around the top. He made four gold rings and fastened one of them to each of the four legs of the chest. Then he made two poles of acacia wood, covered them with gold, and put them through the rings, so the chest could be carried by the poles.

The entire lid of the chest, which was also covered with pure gold, was the place of mercy.[a] 7-9 On each of the two ends of the chest he made a winged creature of hammered gold. They faced each other, and their wings covered the place of mercy.

The Table for the Sacred Bread

10 Bezalel built a table of acacia wood thirty-six inches long, eighteen inches wide, and twenty-seven inches high. 11-12 He covered it with pure gold and put a gold edging around it with a border three inches wide.[b] 13 He made four gold rings and attached one to each of the legs 14 near the edging. The poles for carrying the table were placed through these rings 15 and were made of acacia wood covered with gold. 16 Everything that was to be set on the table was made of pure gold—the bowls, plates, jars, and cups for wine offerings.

The Lampstand

17 Bezalel made a lampstand of pure gold. The whole lampstand, including its decorative flowers, was made from a single piece of hammered gold, 18 with three branches on each of its two sides. 19 There were three decorative almond blossoms on each branch 20 and four on the stem. 21 There was also a blossom where each pair of branches came out from the stem. 22 The lampstand, including its branches and decorative flowers, was made from a single piece of hammered pure gold. 23-24 The lamp and its equipment, including the tongs and trays, were made of about seventy-five pounds of pure gold.

The Altar for Burning Incense

25 For burning incense, Bezalel made an altar of acacia wood. It was eighteen inches square and thirty-six inches high with each of its four corners sticking up like the horn of a bull. 26 He covered it with pure gold and put a gold edging around it. 27 Then below the edging on opposite sides he attached two gold rings through which he put the poles for carrying the altar. 28 These poles were also made of acacia wood and covered with gold.

The Oil for Dedication and the Incense

29 Bezalel mixed the oil for dedication and the sweet-smelling spices for the incense.

The Altar for Offering Sacrifices

38 Bezalel built an altar of acacia wood for offering sacrifices. It was seven and a half feet square and four and a half feet high with each of its four corners sticking up like the horn of a bull, and it was completely covered with bronze. The equipment for the altar was also made of bronze—the pans for the hot ashes, the shovels, the meat forks, and the fire pans. Midway up the altar he built a ledge around it and covered the bottom half of the altar with a decorative bronze grating. Then he attached a bronze ring beneath the ledge at the four corners to put the poles through. He covered two acacia wood poles with bronze and put them through the rings for carrying the altar, which was shaped like an open box.

The Large Bronze Bowl

Bezalel made a large bowl and a stand out of bronze from the mirrors of the women who helped at the entrance to the sacred tent.

The Courtyard around the Sacred Tent

9-17 Around the sacred tent Bezalel built a courtyard one hundred fifty feet long on the south and north and seventy-five feet wide on the east and west. He used twenty bronze posts on bronze stands for the south and north and ten for the west. Then he hung a curtain of fine linen on the posts along each of these three sides by using silver hooks and rods. He placed three bronze posts on each side of the entrance at the east and hung a curtain seven and a half yards wide on each set of posts.

18-19 For the entrance to the courtyard, Bezalel made a curtain ten yards long, which he hung on four bronze posts that were set on bronze stands. This curtain was the same height as the one for the rest of the courtyard and was made of fine linen embroidered and woven with blue, purple, and red wool. He hung the curtain on the four posts, using silver hooks and rods. 20 The pegs for the tent and for the curtain around the tent were made of bronze.

The Sacred Tent

21-23 Bezalel had worked closely with Oholiab,[c] who was an expert at designing and engraving, and at embroidering blue, purple, and red wool. The two of them completed the work that the Lord had commanded.

Moses made Aaron’s son Ithamar responsible for keeping record of the metals used for the sacred tent. 24 According to the official weights, the amount of gold given was two thousand two hundred nine pounds, 25 and the silver that was collected when the people were counted[d] came to seven thousand five hundred fifty pounds. 26 Everyone who was counted paid the required amount, and there was a total of 603,550 men who were twenty years old or older.

27 Seventy-five pounds of the silver were used to make each of the one hundred stands for the sacred tent and the curtain. 28 The remaining fifty pounds of silver were used for the hooks and rods and for covering the tops of the posts.

29 Five thousand three hundred pounds of bronze were given. 30 And it was used to make the stands for the entrance to the tent, the altar and its grating, the equipment for the altar, 31 the stands for the posts that surrounded the courtyard, including those at the entrance to the courtyard, and the pegs for the tent and the courtyard.

Matthew 28

Jesus Is Alive

28 The Sabbath was over, and it was almost daybreak on Sunday when Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. Suddenly a strong earthquake struck, and the Lord’s angel came down from heaven. He rolled away the stone and sat on it. The angel looked as bright as lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards shook from fear and fell down, as though they were dead.

The angel said to the women, “Don’t be afraid! I know you are looking for Jesus, who was nailed to a cross. He isn’t here! God has raised him to life, just as Jesus said he would. Come, see the place where his body was lying. Now hurry! Tell his disciples that he has been raised to life and is on his way to Galilee. Go there, and you will see him. That is what I came to tell you.”

The women were frightened and yet very happy, as they hurried from the tomb and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them and greeted them. They went near him, held on to his feet, and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said, “Don’t be afraid! Tell my followers to go to Galilee. They will see me there.”

Report of the Guard

11 While the women were on their way, some soldiers who had been guarding the tomb went into the city. They told the chief priests everything that had happened. 12 So the chief priests met with the leaders and decided to bribe the soldiers with a lot of money. 13 They said to the soldiers, “Tell everyone that Jesus' disciples came during the night and stole his body while you were asleep. 14 If the governor[a] hears about this, we will talk to him. You won’t have anything to worry about.” 15 The soldiers took the money and did what they were told. The Jewish people still tell each other this story.

What Jesus' Followers Must Do

16 Jesus' eleven disciples went to a mountain in Galilee, where Jesus had told them to meet him. 17 They saw him and worshiped him, but some of them doubted.

18 Jesus came to them and said:

I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth! 19 Go to the people of all nations and make them my disciples. Baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, 20 and teach them to do everything I have told you. I will be with you always, even until the end of the world.

Psalm 34:11-22

11 Come, my children, listen
as I teach you
to respect the Lord.
12 Do you want to live
and enjoy a long life?
13 Then don’t say cruel things
and don’t tell lies.
14 Do good instead of evil
and try to live at peace.

15 If you obey the Lord,
he will watch over you
and answer your prayers.
16 But God despises evil people,
and he will wipe them all
from the earth,
till they are forgotten.
17 When his people pray for help,
he listens and rescues them
from their troubles.
18 The Lord is there to rescue
all
who are discouraged
and have given up hope.

19 The Lord’s people
may suffer a lot,
but he will always
bring them safely through.
20 Not one of their bones
will ever be broken.

21 Wicked people are killed
by their own evil deeds,
and if you hate God’s people
you will be punished.
22 The Lord saves the lives
of his servants.
Run to him for protection,
and you won’t be punished.

Proverbs 9:9-10

If you have good sense,
instruction will help you
to have even better sense.
And if you live right,
education will help you
to know even more.

10 Respect and obey the Lord!
This is the beginning
of wisdom.[a]
To have understanding,
you must know the Holy God.
