Leviticus 14:1-57, Mark 6:30-56, Psalms 40:1-10, Proverbs 10:11-12

Today is the 23rd day of February. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian. It is a pleasure and an honor to be here with you for the first time able to broadcast from the from the Sea of Galilee and that’s something I always love saying. From the Sea of Galilee, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. So, we had a big day yesterday, a very full day and got in, we’re tired and just try to grab our rest and wake up and sort of see the fact that we are no longer in the wilderness, things have changed dramatically almost as if we’ve moved to a different part of the world and that’s how diverse the land of Israel is. So, we will be just capping out a bit and basing ourselves here for the next few days as we experience the northern regions, but we will talk about all of that in a little while. Let’s get to what we’ve come here to do and take the next step forward. So, we’re at the end of a week. We’ve been reading from the Christian standard Bible all this week, which is what we’ll do today and we’ll pick up where we left off yesterday, Leviticus chapter 14.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word, we thank You for the way that it washes into our lives, the way that it gently touches and soothes and heals, and the way that it gently pries up and confronts. We thank You for Your word because it speaks truth into our lives. And Father, even as we are here in the land of the Bible we ask that You bring these places and the events that happened in these places alive to us in new ways so that they continue to penetrate deeper and deeper into our hearts more thoroughly changing us and sanctifying us. We thank You for bringing us to this place here to the Galilee. We have wandered in the wilderness and it has a new meaning to us now, a profoundly new meaning to us. And now we have come to the place where You chose to do Your ministry. Out of all the places in the earth, this is where You chose. And, so, may we drink it in Father, as we visit the land the Galilee whether here in person or virtually. And we pray these things in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Announcements:

So, we spent our day yesterday, actually, just coming out of the wilderness and making a few stops along the way. Our first stop was at the oasis of En Gedi where a bunch of things happen in Scripture but one in particular was from the book of second Chronicles, which we haven’t gotten to yet in the Scriptures, but a horde of three different nations, armies, crossed the Dead Sea and stage themselves at the oasis of En Gedi so they had fresh water and were preparing to attack Jerusalem and King Jehoshaphat, like there was no hope. And we read the outcome of that story and applied it to our lives before continuing a bit more North to Qumran, which is where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found. And, I mean, the Dead Sea Scrolls, at least among biblical scholars, like, and pretty much archaeologists as well, this is like one of if not the greatest discovery in our era. So, we spent some time and began understand the context for how the Dead Sea Scrolls came to be hidden in these caves and how they came to sit for, you know, nearly 2 millennia before being discovered and then looked at some of the caves, one in particular, where the Isaiah scroll was found. This is the famous one. Like, if you Google Qumran, this is usually what you see. And, so, just overlooking that, taking some pictures, understanding how God protected His word in this way before moving to baptism and how we went out to the Jordan River and we got in and we left behind all that we were without Christ and we came out of the waters new. And that is always…I was gonna say…is always a special time but that’s an understatement…it’s a solemn thing. I mean it’s one of the most privileged things that I do is a minister…it's…there’s not the right words, especially to be able to be there to witness, you know, people going into the Jordan River and the impact that that reality has…it’s just…yeah…especially is right, but is maybe only 20% of right. It’s way more than that it's…it’s a holy moment. So, yeah, we were able to rejoice together in the Jordan River very near where Jesus would have been baptized, very near where the children of Israel would’ve crossed into this promised land and headed toward Jericho and it was beautiful. And then we actually did go into Jericho for lunch and a little bit of shopping and an opportunity to mingle with and observe and just be in the Palestinian culture. And that’s always fun. That’s just interesting and enjoyable and fun. And then then we went over to the ruins of Jericho and saw a few things before heading out. And, of course, this is also…Jesus obviously was baptized in the Jordan River and then according the Scriptures he went into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil for 40 days. So, you know, we’re in the Judean wilderness and there are things to commemorate that, but the entire area is the area. So, just kind of understanding that’s what’s also going on. There’s just a lot of themes flowing through Jericho that’s special. And another special thing was that, this is where the Kedron Valley ends, comes down from Jerusalem and ends up at Jericho and this was the pathway that was used to get between Jericho and Jerusalem. And, so, we were able to see opening of the Kedron Valley and look upon it because it inspired Psalm 23, the valley of the shadow of death, it inspired Jesus story about the good Samaritan and it was most certainly the pathway that Jesus walked from Jericho to Jerusalem on his way to the cross. So, profound indeed. And then we settled in and drove north through the Jordan Valley. We watched the desert slowly begin to show signs of life and we watched the greenery increase, increase until all the sudden we are in a fertile oasis. Ahhh…and what a transition. You can just feel it in your heart, you can feel it in your Spirit. We’re leaving the wilderness, life is returning. And we ended up on the shores of the Sea of Galilee, which is where we’ll be kind of camping out here for the next few days.

So tonight, and that’s tonight for us, but that’s probably somewhere around the time you might be hearing this. So, for example, in the United States at 11 AM Central Standard Time, so, you can kind of do the math from there, which is going to be 7 PM here at the Sea of Galilee, we’re gonna get together here as a group try to debrief little bit, spend some time together hearing from each other, but we’re gonna turn the cameras on at 7 and just kind of share our journey with our brothers and sisters who are coming along virtually, which is you. So, if you can, be sure to tune in, you can ask questions and chat with each other from all over the world and throw some questions into the group and have them answered and we’ll do that for about an hour. It’s not like we’re gonna do this, you know, for days, but we’ll do it for about an hour and it’s always fun, always ties the community together. It’s a beautiful thing. So, plan for that. Its 7 PM tonight in Israel and like I said that’s 11 AM in Nashville. So, that will be 12 PM noon in New York and 9 AM in Los Angeles and I guess you could just Google, you know, the difference between Tel Aviv and wherever you are and that’s when we’ll be going live. So, hope to see you there.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hey Daily Audio Bible family, this is To Be a Blessing in California. It’s a beautiful day as a drive to work. I am praising God that He reminded me that the journey that I’m on and we are all on is the Christian walk and that it’s not a Christian Sprint. Sometimes it feels like a Christian crawl but that’s all a process of learning how to walk. And with each situation that comes up we might know how to walk in a particular way that God has been involved in our lives in growing up and then we have a new experience where God wants to apply those principles and that victory in another aspect. And, so, life’s a walk, a crawl. Micah 6:8 tells us that He’s shown us what good to do justly to love mercy and to walk humbly with our God and I read that verse in another version which was so sweet to me - to promote justice, to love kindness and to walk without pride before our God. That’s my prayer today as well as Joshua 1:9, have not I told you to be strong enough with courage for your Lord your God is with you wherever you go. I need that as I go into the workplace. I still have work issues, but God is worthy of praise because He is working it out. Thank you for your prayerful support. Praying for you all as well. God bless you today. Bye-bye.

Hi all, this is the Misfit Man from Cincinnati. And I was calling as I was listening to the community prayer line for the gentleman, and I apologize, I don’t remember the name, who called in who had had a stroke and just past December and had found the Daily Audio Bible through his friend Sophia and just so excited to be reunited with their two-year-old kid and I just can’t imagine what you’re going through, but just stay strong, keep trusting in the Lord and praying and I just wanted to say a prayer for you. Dear heavenly Father, we lift him up right now, that You can help restore his relationship with his child that he will be able to get back to him quickly and to have that joy again being a parent and getting to spend time with the child and just bless him as he’s recovering from his stroke and I pray Father you and bring the full restoration to anything that is lacking right now, through Your spirit Father you put Your healing hand on him right now, bless him in his journey and his walk with You and just keep him going strong. In your name I pray. Amen. All be blessed y’all. Bye.

Hey Pelham, this is Bridget from New York City. I’m just calling in, I heard your prayer request about you missing your wife and it broke my heart. I’ve been with my husband, we’re gonna celebrate 23 years next month. It has not been an easy road, but it’s been worth it and I’m just gonna lift you up in prayer along with your wife because the thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy and marriage is the main, the main living picture of Christ in the church. And I’m just gonna pray for you. God, heavenly Father, Lord, I just lift up Pelham and his wife and his family Father God. Lord, I lift up Father, first and foremost that heart of desperation in Pelham’s voice Father God. Lord, You hear his heart, You hear his heart cry, You hear the area where he’s broken Father God. He misses his wife Lord. Father God I just ask You Lord to comfort his heart sweet Jesus, comfort his heart, bring him peace in the midst of this storm Father God. You said that weapons would form against us but You did not say…I mean…You said that we will…weapons will form against us but not that they won’t form that they will not prosper against us. So, I just pray that in the midst of the storm, in the midst of this formation of these weapons that are being formed against his family, Lord that Pelham would be still and know that You are with him, Pelham would know that in the end You have a greater plan and that…

Hi Daily Audio Bible family it’s Mary Lynne from New Brunswick again and today I’m calling in just with a word of encouragement for Janet who called in for her son Jared. Sister, I’ve been there. So, I’m gonna tell you briefly…as soon as I get myself together…it’s called love for a reason…it’s not easy, but my son is now 30 and when he was between the ages of 14 and 19 we had to have him forcibly removed from our home three times. Hardest thing we’ve ever done but I’m telling you it was the best thing we’ve ever done. He was old enough to make his own bad choices and he found a place to live and he got a job and right now I know there’s a long story because we are constrained to two long minutes but my son today is 30 years old, he is married to the most amazing woman I’ve ever met and he is the most responsible most respectable and loving man I’ve ever seen. His heart…I’m not telling you not to go get him but I’m telling you that you need to find some women that are flesh and bone body near you that will hold you up in prayer because without my fur other mothers for my son we would not have made it. When I couldn’t pray for him __ they did and their love for him never wavered. So, I pray for you Janet. I am praying for Jared. Hang tough girl, God’s got this.

Leviticus 14

Cleansing of Skin Diseases

14 The Lord spoke to Moses: “This is the law(A) concerning the person afflicted with a skin disease on the day of his cleansing.(B) He is to be brought to the priest,(C) who will go outside the camp(D) and examine him.(E) If the skin disease has disappeared from the afflicted person,[a] the priest will order that two live clean birds,(F) cedar wood,(G) scarlet(H) yarn, and hyssop(I) be brought for the one who is to be cleansed. Then the priest will order that one of the birds be slaughtered over fresh water in a clay pot. He is to take the live bird together with the cedar wood, scarlet yarn, and hyssop, and dip them all into the blood of the bird that was slaughtered over the fresh water. He will then sprinkle the blood seven times on the one who is to be cleansed from the skin disease. He is to pronounce him clean and release the live bird over the open countryside.(J) The one who is to be cleansed must wash his clothes, shave off all his hair, and bathe with water; he is clean. Afterward he may enter the camp, but he must remain outside his tent for seven days. He is to shave off all his hair again on the seventh day: his head, his beard, his eyebrows, and the rest of his hair. He is to wash his clothes and bathe himself with water; he is clean.

10 “On the eighth day he must take two unblemished(K) male lambs, an unblemished year-old ewe lamb, a grain offering of six quarts[b] of fine flour mixed with olive oil, and one-third of a quart[c] of olive oil. 11 The priest who performs the cleansing will place the person who is to be cleansed, together with these offerings, before the Lord at the entrance to the tent of meeting. 12 The priest is to take one male lamb and present it as a guilt offering,(L) along with the one-third quart of olive oil, and he will present them as a presentation offering(M) before the Lord. 13 He is to slaughter the male lamb at the place in the sanctuary area where the sin offering(N) and burnt offering(O) are slaughtered,(P) for like the sin offering, the guilt offering belongs to the priest;(Q) it is especially holy.(R) 14 The priest is to take some of the blood from the guilt offering and put it on the lobe of the right ear of the one to be cleansed, on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot.(S) 15 Then the priest will take some of the one-third quart of olive oil and pour it into his left palm. 16 The priest will dip his right finger into the oil in his left palm and sprinkle some of the oil with his finger seven times before the Lord. 17 From the oil remaining in his palm the priest will put some on the lobe of the right ear of the one to be cleansed, on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot, on top of the blood of the guilt offering.(T) 18 What is left of the oil in the priest’s palm he is to put on the head of the one to be cleansed. In this way the priest will make atonement for him before the Lord. 19 The priest is to sacrifice the sin offering and make atonement for the one to be cleansed from his uncleanness.(U) Afterward he will slaughter the burnt offering. 20 The priest is to offer the burnt offering and the grain offering on the altar. The priest will make atonement for him, and he will be clean.(V)

21 “But if he is poor(W) and cannot afford these,(X) he is to take one male lamb for a guilt offering to be presented in order to make atonement for him, along with two quarts[d] of fine flour mixed with olive oil for a grain offering, one-third of a quart of olive oil, 22 and two turtledoves or two young pigeons, whatever he can afford, one to be a sin offering and the other a burnt offering. 23 On the eighth day he is to bring these things for his cleansing to the priest at the entrance to the tent of meeting before the Lord. 24 The priest will take the male lamb for the guilt offering and the one-third quart of olive oil, and present them as a presentation offering before the Lord. 25 After he slaughters the male lamb for the guilt offering, the priest is to take some of the blood of the guilt offering and put it on the right earlobe of the one to be cleansed, on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot. 26 Then the priest will pour some of the oil into his left palm. 27 With his right finger the priest will sprinkle some of the oil in his left palm seven times before the Lord. 28 The priest will also put some of the oil in his palm on the right earlobe of the one to be cleansed, on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot, on the same place as the blood of the guilt offering. 29 What is left of the oil in the priest’s palm he is to put on the head of the one to be cleansed to make atonement for him before the Lord.(Y) 30 He is to then sacrifice one type of what he can afford, either the turtledoves or young pigeons, 31 one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering, sacrificing what he can afford together with the grain offering. In this way the priest will make atonement before the Lord for the one to be cleansed. 32 This is the law for someone who has[e] a skin disease and cannot afford the cost of his cleansing.”

Cleansing of Contaminated Objects

33 The Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron: 34 “When you enter the land of Canaan(Z) that I am giving you as a possession,(AA) and I place a mildew contamination in a house in the land you possess,[f] 35 the owner of the house is to come and tell the priest: Something like mildew contamination has appeared[g] in my house. 36 The priest must order them to clear the house before he enters to examine the contamination, so that nothing in the house becomes unclean. Afterward the priest will come to examine the house. 37 He will examine it, and if the contamination in the walls of the house consists of green or red indentations[h] that appear to be beneath the surface of the wall, 38 the priest is to go outside the house to its doorway and quarantine the house for seven days. 39 The priest is to return on the seventh day and examine it. If the contamination has spread on the walls of the house, 40 the priest must order that the stones with the contamination be pulled out and thrown into an unclean place outside the city. 41 He is to have the inside of the house completely scraped, and have the plaster[i] that is scraped off dumped in an unclean place outside the city. 42 Then they are to take different stones to replace the former ones and take additional plaster to replaster the house.

43 “If the contamination reappears in the house after the stones have been pulled out, and after the house has been scraped and replastered, 44 the priest is to come and examine it. If the contamination has spread in the house, it is harmful mildew; the house is unclean. 45 It must be torn down with its stones, its beams, and all its plaster, and taken outside the city to an unclean place. 46 Whoever enters the house during any of the days the priest quarantines it will be unclean until evening. 47 Whoever lies down in the house is to wash his clothes, and whoever eats in it is to wash his clothes.

48 “But when the priest comes and examines it, if the contamination has not spread in the house after it was replastered, he is to pronounce the house clean because the contamination has disappeared.[j] 49 He is to take two birds, cedar wood, scarlet yarn, and hyssop to purify the house, 50 and he is to slaughter one of the birds over a clay pot containing fresh water. 51 He will take the cedar wood, the hyssop, the scarlet yarn, and the live bird, dip them in the blood of the slaughtered bird and the fresh water, and sprinkle the house seven times. 52 He will purify the house with the blood of the bird, the fresh water, the live bird, the cedar wood, the hyssop, and the scarlet yarn. 53 Then he is to release the live bird into the open countryside(AB) outside the city. In this way he will make atonement for the house, and it will be clean.

54 “This is the law for any skin disease or mildew, for a scaly outbreak, 55 for mildew in clothing or on a house, 56 and for a swelling, scab, or spot, 57 to determine when something is unclean or clean. This is the law regarding skin disease and mildew.”

Mark 6:30-56

Feeding of the Five Thousand

30 The(A) apostles(B) gathered around Jesus and reported to him all that they had done and taught. 31 He said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a remote place and rest for a while.” For many people were coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.

32 So they went away in the boat by themselves to a remote place, 33 but many saw them leaving and recognized them, and they ran on foot from all the towns and arrived ahead of them.[a]

34 When he went ashore, he saw a large crowd and had compassion(C) on them, because they were like sheep(D) without a shepherd. Then he began to teach them many things.

35 When it grew late, his disciples(E) approached him and said, “This place is deserted,(F) and it is already late. 36 Send them away so that they can go into the surrounding countryside and villages to buy themselves something to eat.”

37 “You give them something to eat,” he responded.

They said to him, “Should we go and buy two hundred denarii[b] worth of bread and give them something to eat?”

38 He asked them, “How many loaves do you have? Go and see.”

When they found out they said, “Five, and two fish.” 39 Then he instructed them to have all the people sit down in groups on the green grass. 40 So they sat down in groups of hundreds and fifties. 41 He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he blessed and broke the loaves. He kept giving them to his disciples to set before the people. He also divided the two fish among them all. 42 Everyone ate and was satisfied.(G) 43 They picked up twelve baskets full of pieces of bread and fish. 44 Now those who had eaten the loaves were five thousand men.

Walking on the Water

45 Immediately(H) he made his disciples get into the boat and go ahead of him to the other side, to Bethsaida,(I) while he dismissed the crowd. 46 After he said good-bye to them, he went away to the mountain(J) to pray.(K) 47 Well into the night, the boat was in the middle of the sea, and he was alone on the land. 48 He saw them straining(L) at the oars,[c] because the wind was against them. Very early in the morning[d] he came toward them walking on the sea and wanted to pass by them. 49 When they saw him walking on the sea, they thought it was a ghost(M) and cried out, 50 because they all saw him and were terrified.(N) Immediately he spoke with them and said, “Have courage!(O) It is I.(P) Don’t be afraid.”(Q) 51 Then he got into the boat with them, and the wind ceased. They were completely astounded, 52 because they had not understood about the loaves. Instead, their hearts were hardened.(R)

Miraculous Healings

53 When they had crossed over, they came to shore at Gennesaret(S) and anchored there.

54 As they got out of the boat, people immediately recognized him. 55 They hurried throughout that region and began to carry the sick(T) on mats to wherever they heard he was. 56 Wherever he went, into villages, towns, or the country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces and begged him that they might touch just the end(U) of his robe.(V) And everyone who touched it was healed.

Psalm 40

Thanksgiving and a Cry for Help

For the choir director. A psalm of David.

I waited patiently for the Lord,
and he turned to me and heard my cry for help.(A)
He brought me up from a desolate[a] pit,
out of the muddy clay,(B)
and set my feet on a rock,
making my steps secure.(C)
He put a new song in my mouth,
a hymn of praise to our God.(D)
Many will see and fear,
and they will trust in the Lord.(E)

How happy is anyone
who has put his trust in the Lord
and has not turned to the proud
or to those who run after lies!(F)
Lord my God, you have done many things—
your wondrous works and your plans for us;
none can compare with you.
If I were to report and speak of them,
they are more than can be told.(G)

You do not delight in sacrifice and offering;
you open my ears to listen.[b]
You do not ask for a whole burnt offering or a sin offering.(H)
Then I said, “See, I have come;

I delight to do your will, my God,(J)
and your instruction is deep within me.”(K)

I proclaim righteousness in the great assembly;
see, I do not keep my mouth closed[c]
as you know, Lord.(L)
10 I did not hide your righteousness in my heart;
I spoke about your faithfulness and salvation;
I did not conceal your constant love and truth

Leviticus 13:1-59, Mark 6:1-29, Psalms 39:1-13, Proverbs 10:10

Today is the 22nd day of February. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian. It is a pleasure and an honor to be here with you today. Coming to you from the Dead Sea currently and there is much to do and see today as there was yesterday and we will talk about that in a little bit. But before that we should that we should do what we’ve come to do and that is to take the next step forward in the Scriptures this year. So, we’re reading from the Christian Standard Bible this week and we’ll move back into the book of Leviticus. Today we’ll read Leviticus chapter 13.

Commentary:

Okay. So, in the book of Leviticus as very specific statutes and regulations are being put in place about very specific conditions, you know, like like we were saying yesterday, we can glaze over on this, but yesterday we talked about the fact that there is still clean and unclean, and that principal still matters as much today as it ever did. So, we get into the book of Leviticus today and God is telling Moses and Aaron, you know, about people who have swellings or rashes or discolorations on their skin and what might develop into a serious skin disease and what my not. And, so, it’s easy again to just kind of tune out, like, come on, a reddish bump on the skin needs to be examined by the priest, he’s gotta declare clean or unclean. Whew…thankfully we don’t have to do this. And we can understand, you know, why these kinds of instructions would be given from a practical perspective because, I mean, we’re talking about a time without antibiotics. If there is an infectious disease that can infect another person, especially through blood or, you know, exposing raw flesh or whatever. Well, then that could affect a lot of people, not just one person. So, we can we can see that but it’s hard to know why God wanted this in the Bible at face value, but we have been talking about the fact that the tapestry of this culture that is being formed in the wilderness has certainly got practical value in how people are to relate to each other, keep each other protected, and keep each other healthy. But also, what is being woven into this culture is a spiritual underpinning so that pretty much everything they experience in life is connected to its spiritual reality. So, the priest was to inspect a rash or swelling and quarantine the infected person. And the way that the priest would determine whether what he was examining was dangerous was to determine whether it was on the surface of the skin or if it went deeper. We’re starting to see the spiritual implications here, right? If somethings on the surface, I mean, it can pretty much be plucked off the surface and disposed of easily but something that’s deeper can cause chronic problems, right, both in our body and in our Spirits and we can’t always tell was happening within us. So, in our modern era, we have the medical community, right, we have members of our clergy, we have the counseling community to help us work through these things. In Israel’s time they had family leaders, right, the tribal leaders and they had the priesthood. So, different labels, maybe different functions, but we’re not as different as it might seem. But regardless, the things that have become more than a surface issue, whether they are in our body, our mind or our spirit, those things should not be left to grow into a life-threatening issue that could impact everyone around us and Leviticus brought this clear, front, and center for us today.

Prayer:

Father, we come into Your presence. You are our great high priest. Examine us. We come and submit ourselves before You and ask You to show us the things that would be declared unclean because they are unclean. Show us the things that we’ve allowed to exist that have now become more than skin deep, the things that are seeping poison slowly into our souls and we know something is wrong and it feels like slowly fading but we can’t explain why. It’s because we’ve allowed things in our lives to grow beyond skin deep. Holy Spirit come show us these areas. We open ourselves to You. We want to be made whole. So, come Jesus we pray. In Your mighty name we ask. Amen.

Announcements:

Okay. So, coming to you today from the Dead Sea where we will be heading out and heading north and by the time that the days over today, we will have left the wilderness behind. Yesterday, we spent our second full day in the wilderness by beginning in Eilat where we had spent the night and then beginning our journey North because you can only go north. And our first stop was at a place called Timna. Ancient mines are there and human activity from the time archaeologically is there, but there is also a scale replica of the tabernacle. So, we read about the specifics of the tabernacle that God outlines, the place to be the center of the camp of the Israelites, the place where God would dwell, right in the middle of all of them. And it’s detailed completely but so much detail is given that it's…it’s kind of…you know…and so many of the measurements, like, how big is a cubit exactly and all of this. So, it’s like hard to imagine exactly how it looked and how it would be. So, there’s a full-scale replica of the tabernacle out in the wilderness just kind of sitting in the desert. So, it’s in the right setting and it’s just powerful to see the themes in the tabernacle emerge and how they point the way forward toward Jesus. So, we spent some time there viewing and hearing about the tabernacle before continuing forward and we made another stop at our favorite Yatvota dairy. Stopped for some more ice cream and a bathroom break before a bit of a long drive going north but actually descending to the lowest point on earth, which is where we ended up, in the Dead Sea. But before that went to Masada. And Masada goes back all the way to King Herod’s time, at least where Herod at an opulent palace out in the desert but it was also us a stronghold. And, you know, if you’ve ever been to Masada, if you’ve been to Israel than you know, like…it…you see that place and you wonder how it could ever be taken, but it’s the Romans did and that’s part of the Hebrew story and that’s part of the heritage here, but it is also a an unbelievably spectacular view of the wilderness. So, we spent some time there before, just coming back to the shores of the Dead Sea and considering some of the Genesis stories about Abraham and Lott and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah and Lott fleeing and how his story went, which we talked about when we read through it in Genesis, but we just kind of revisited that right there on the shores of the Dead Sea before getting to our hotel before dark so that everyone would have the opportunity to bathe themselves in mud and float in the Dead Sea, which is always a highlight and always a lot of fun. So, we covered some significant ground today allowing us to kind of stage ourselves at the Dead Sea and begin to move north a few stops along the way and begin moving our way out of the wilderness. So, we’re having a blast, you know, we’re slowly all moving through jet lag and all this kind of stuff and just enjoying community and company and fellowship and fun and conversation and friendship all while being aware that God is speaking to us through the wilderness, speaking to us about the wilderness, and in many ways reinterpreting things that we’ve considered maybe incorrectly about the wilderness. And at this point , now that we’ve had a couple of days to just kind of view the vastness of the wilderness it’s unspeakably clear, you take roads out of the equation and you take electricity out of the equation and everything that we are accustomed to and you take a horde of people into the wilderness that there is nothing to do but be utterly dependent upon God, which is kind of the point and kind of the point when we go through our own seasons of wilderness. And, so, we have often invited the Holy Spirit to speak into and interpret these wilderness seasons of our lives as we’ve wandered in the wilderness and it creates a foundation for the story that’s being told here as we do our best to tell the story that the Bible is telling through the land of the Bible. So, we thank you for your prayers continually. Believe me when I tell you that we feel them, and we sense that and it brings an incredible amount of peace over the entire journey. So, thank you for your continued prayers and I will look forward to describing all that we will do today tomorrow because we have to do all we’re going to do today before I can buy can tell you about it. But thank you for following along and you can certainly follow Daily Audio Bible on Facebook or Instagram and we are posting things as they happen. And, so, excited to have you along virtually.

One way to really come along virtually is this Saturday, this Saturday evening, at least for us here in Israel, we’ll be at the Sea of Galilee and we always get together and just kind of debrief a little bit, talk to each other a little bit as we approach the halfway point of our journey, not quite the halfway point but as we’re getting there and just kind of talk through a little bit, share some experiences, but we spend a bit of that time throwing up a camera and broadcasting on Facebook Live. And, so, you are invited. This is gonna happen at 7pm here in Israel. So, the difference there, like back to where I live in Tennessee, it will be 11 AM on Saturday. So, you can just Google the time difference between Tel Aviv, Israel and wherever it is that you are and you’ll be able to figure out what time that will be for you. But do tune in, we’ll be broadcasting this on Facebook Live at the Daily Audio Bible Facebook page, which is Facebook.com/Daily Audio Bible or just, you know, search for Daily Audio Bible on Facebook and you’ll find it. And hope to see you there. And that’s a fun time because that draws the whole community together. So many people are chatting with each other from all over the place and throwing questions to the group here in Israel and getting those questions answered and it’s always a good time. So, hope to see you there. It’ll be fun.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hello, good morning Daily Audio Bible, this is Yolanda from Atlanta. I’ve been listening for about seven years. I have not called in in about five years, but I was very convicted when I heard the prayer from, I believe, Byron concerning his 12-year-old son that he believes has been exposed to carnal, maybe lustful things at some point. And it was super amazing to me to hear this because it is…I have an 11-year-old son and it is something that I kind of struggled being afraid of knowing that __ have YouTube, you have the Internet and so many kids have so much exposure to so many things and I try my best to monitor things that, as you all know. And as we were growing up there were probably things that our parents never knew that we got into that we got into and it created strongholds in our lives that we still deal with today. So, understanding how I grew up and kind of what I dealt with. I am praying fervently for your son, I’m praying for all of our sons our daughters and whatever it is the enemy is trying to do in their lives I’m binding it in the name of Jesus, I’m coming against it. Lord God…but even in that…even in that because I have a story from when I was very young, my father having a pornography addiction and me finding things, whether it was VCR tapes, projectors, magazines, all that stuff at the age of four and having that stronghold all of my life. So, knowing how I’ve been able to come out of that and still be able to be a testimony also comforts me. So, I want to comfort you, that maybe ultimately where your son’s pain is will be his purpose. So, I’m praying for you, praying for all of our kids Lord God, I pray that they’re all covered in the name of Jesus. Have a Wonderful day.

Hi, this is Cherry from Claremore Oklahoma. I called in last May for __ and Greg and I have to say this real quick to get in. And I thank you everyone for praying and Victoria Soldier your words bring life. I always struggled remembering your name because the only name __ soldier of truth. It’s just been that way since I heard your name. Anyway, __ Greg struggles with severe alcoholism and when I called back and they he was in the hospital fighting for his life from a brain bleed and two surgeries in two days. They said he would die and he didn’t and they said he would be a vegetable and not recognize anyone and that didn’t happen either. He’s only 48 yet he struggles with anxiety, depression, __ his feet - L4, F5, and F1 - just from being a paratrooper in the military, cerebella ataxia where the lower part of the brain sits against the spinal column and let’s see, brain surgeries I mentioned earlier. Today he is with me as I travel across the country on my job, a door God’s opened to stem cell injections this Thursday the 21st. So, for the first time in his life he’s willing to try and stop drinking on his own due to the pre-and post-cell injection requirement. And he’s a fighter. His hearts willing, but please pray, his flesh is __ strong. And now he listens to Brian with me and he repeats every morning the famous loved words of Brian Hardin, “I love you and I’ll be waiting here for you tomorrow” with tears in his eyes. He prays for the callers with a broken voice and so many changes in his heart and mind and so many more are needed. Another issue is he will have to stop drinking…oh…I’m sorry…he’ll have to stop working out after the injections for quite a few weeks and that’s what releases his anxiety and he’s always been a gym rat and it’s just really gonna be a hard thing to overcome and work through. I trust God to lead each and every one of you on how to pray that my thoughts are praying for purity and the mind of Christ, that he would have pure thoughts, desires and an identity in Christ and not what he thinks he should be or expected to be. So, okay, I think I got it in. Hope you understand it. Thank you, guys.

Hey family this is Darrell down in Georgia calling in, I think for my third time. Anyway, this is my first time that I’m calling and asking for some prayer. It is for a very good friend of mine his name is Al and his wife Kathy. They’re in their early 80s and Al came home from the hospital yesterday. He’s been battling cancer and he is now involved in hospice. They are anticipating a week or two and he will be home with Jesus, which, I know that Al is ready to go and excited about going. He’s just the most wonderful man with the most gentle heart, gentle spirit. I’ve known this man for many many, many, years, love him and his wife to death but he’s very sad because he knows he’s breaking the hearts of his children and, of course, his wife. His wife Kathy is the one that is really going to need the prayer because she’s very dependent on Al. She doesn’t drive. She has friends around her. She has us around her. She has her family, but Al was her strength and she loves the Lord, absolutely. But if you could pray for Kathy I would really appreciate that and for Al that there wouldn’t be any suffering. I heard today, and I teared up today as I learned that he was starting to struggle in his breathing and it literally breaks my heart. So, if you guys could remember Al and Kathy my good friends I would be very grateful. Thanks so much. I love our family. Have a great night.

Hey Daily Audio Bible family this is Trish calling in Chicago…and head down…let’s pray. God, thanks for today. Thank You that You give me parents that love me, and You give me friends as well. I ask that You would encourage my heart and anybody else’s out there that’s really discouraged about things __ and just really sad __. Lord, I ask that You would raise up godly men and godly women __ each other and make an impact on this world and that You would provide for __ as well. Thank You that You see us and You are the living __ You are the living one who sees us and we thank You God for that. I ask that You would encourage the heart of anybody that is thinking of taking their lives, that You would enable them to be impacted by a sermon or reminded them of something You’ve taught them in the past. Thank You that I’m not suicidal right now but…trust in You dearly __ as a result of hearing this prayer request. Thank you for the Daily Audio Bible and everyone here. Amen. Good night friends. Thanks for praying. Bye.

Leviticus 13

Skin Diseases

13 The Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron: “When a person has a swelling,[a] scab,[b] or spot on the skin of his body, and it may be a serious disease on the skin(A) of his body, he is to be brought to the priest Aaron or to one of his sons, the priests. The priest will examine the sore(B) on the skin of his body. If the hair in the sore has turned white and the sore appears to be deeper than the skin of his body, it is in fact a serious skin disease. After the priest examines him, he must pronounce him unclean. But if the spot on the skin of his body is white and does not appear to be deeper than the skin, and the hair in it has not turned white, the priest will quarantine the stricken person for seven days.(C) The priest will then reexamine him on the seventh day. If he sees that the sore remains unchanged and has not spread on the skin, the priest will quarantine him for another seven days. The priest will examine him again on the seventh day. If the sore has faded and has not spread on the skin, the priest is to pronounce him clean;(D) it is a scab. The person is to wash his clothes and will become clean. But if the scab spreads further on his skin after he has presented himself to the priest for his cleansing,(E) he is to present himself again to the priest. The priest will examine him, and if the scab has spread on the skin, then the priest must pronounce him unclean; he has a serious skin disease.

“When a case of serious skin disease may have developed on a person, he is to be brought to the priest. 10 The priest will examine him. If there is a white swelling on the skin that has turned the hair white, and there is a patch of raw flesh in the swelling, 11 it is a chronic serious disease on the skin of his body, and the priest must pronounce him unclean.(F) He need not quarantine him, for he is unclean. 12 But if the skin disease breaks out all over the skin so that it covers all the skin of the stricken person from his head to his feet so far as the priest can see, 13 the priest will look, and if the skin disease has covered his entire body, he is to pronounce the stricken person clean.(G) Since he has turned totally white, he is clean. 14 But whenever raw flesh appears on him, he will be unclean. 15 When the priest examines the raw flesh, he must pronounce him unclean. Raw flesh is unclean; this is a serious skin disease. 16 But if the raw flesh changes[c] and[d] turns white, he is to go to the priest. 17 The priest will examine him, and if the sore has turned white, the priest must pronounce the stricken person clean; he is clean.

18 “When a boil appears on the skin(H) of someone’s body(I) and it heals, 19 and a white swelling or a reddish-white spot develops where the boil was, the person is to present himself to the priest. 20 The priest will make an examination, and if the spot seems to be beneath the skin and the hair in it has turned white, the priest must pronounce him unclean; it is a case of serious skin disease that has broken out in the boil. 21 But when the priest examines it, if there is no white hair in it, and it is not beneath the skin but is faded, the priest will quarantine him seven days. 22 If it spreads further on the skin, the priest must pronounce him unclean; it is in fact a disease. 23 But if the spot remains where it is and does not spread, it is only the scar from the boil. The priest is to pronounce him clean.

24 “When there is a burn on the skin of one’s body produced by fire, and the patch made raw by the burn becomes reddish-white or white, 25 the priest is to examine it. If the hair in the spot has turned white and the spot appears to be deeper than the skin, it is a serious skin disease that has broken out in the burn. The priest must pronounce him unclean; it is a serious skin disease. 26 But when the priest examines it, if there is no white hair in the spot and it is not beneath the skin but is faded, the priest will quarantine him seven days. 27 The priest will reexamine him on the seventh day. If it has spread further on the skin, the priest must pronounce him unclean; it is in fact a case of serious skin disease. 28 But if the spot has remained where it was and has not spread on the skin but is faded, it is the swelling from the burn. The priest is to pronounce him clean, for it is only the scar from the burn.

29 “When a man or woman has a condition on the head or chin, 30 the priest is to examine the condition. If it appears to be deeper than the skin,(J) and the hair in it is yellow and sparse, the priest must pronounce the person unclean. It is a scaly outbreak, a serious skin disease of the head or chin. 31 When the priest examines the scaly condition, if it does not appear to be deeper than the skin, and there is no black hair in it, the priest will quarantine the person with the scaly condition for seven days. 32 The priest will reexamine the condition on the seventh day. If the scaly outbreak has not spread and there is no yellow hair in it and it does not appear to be deeper than the skin, 33 the person is to shave himself(K) but not shave the scaly area. Then the priest will quarantine the person who has the scaly outbreak for another seven days. 34 The priest will examine the scaly outbreak on the seventh day, and if it has not spread on the skin and does not appear to be deeper than the skin, the priest is to pronounce the person clean. He is to wash his clothes, and he will be clean. 35 But if the scaly outbreak spreads further on the skin after his cleansing, 36 the priest is to examine the person. If the scaly outbreak has spread on the skin, the priest does not need to look for yellow hair; the person is unclean. 37 But if as far as he can see, the scaly outbreak remains unchanged and black hair has grown in it, then it has healed; he is clean. The priest is to pronounce the person clean.

38 “When a man or a woman has white spots on the skin of the body, 39 the priest is to make an examination. If the spots on the skin of the body are dull white, it is only a rash[e] that has broken out on the skin; the person is clean.

40 “If a man loses the hair of his head, he is bald,(L) but he is clean. 41 Or if he loses the hair at his hairline, he is bald on his forehead, but he is clean. 42 But if there is a reddish-white condition on the bald head or forehead, it is a serious skin disease breaking out on his head or forehead.(M) 43 The priest is to examine him, and if the swelling of the condition on his bald head or forehead is reddish-white, like the appearance of a serious skin disease on his body, 44 the man is afflicted with a serious skin disease;(N) he is unclean. The priest must pronounce him unclean; the infection is on his head.

45 “The person who has a case of serious skin disease is to have his clothes torn(O) and his hair hanging loose, and he must cover his mouth(P) and cry out, ‘Unclean, unclean!’ 46 He will remain unclean as long as he has the disease; he is unclean. He must live alone in a place outside the camp.(Q)

Contaminated Fabrics

47 “If a fabric is contaminated with mildew—in wool or linen fabric, 48 in the warp or weft of linen or wool, or in leather or anything made of leather— 49 and if the contamination is green or red in the fabric, the leather, the warp, the weft, or any leather article, it is a mildew contamination and is to be shown to the priest. 50 The priest is to examine the contamination and quarantine the contaminated fabric for seven days. 51 The priest is to reexamine the contamination on the seventh day. If it has spread in the fabric, the warp, the weft, or the leather, regardless of how it is used, the contamination is harmful mildew; it is unclean.(R) 52 He is to burn the fabric, the warp or weft in wool or linen, or any leather article, which is contaminated. Since it is harmful mildew it must be burned.

53 “When the priest examines it, if the contamination has not spread in the fabric, the warp or weft, or any leather article, 54 the priest is to order whatever is contaminated to be washed and quarantined for another seven days. 55 After it has been washed, the priest is to reexamine the contamination. If the appearance of the contaminated article has not changed, it is unclean. Even though the contamination has not spread, you must burn the fabric. It is a fungus[f] on the front or back of the fabric.

56 “If the priest examines it, and the contamination has faded after it has been washed, he is to cut the contaminated section out of the fabric, the leather, or the warp or weft. 57 But if it reappears in the fabric, the warp or weft, or any leather article, it has broken out again. You must burn whatever is contaminated. 58 But if the contamination disappears from the fabric, the warp or weft, or any leather article, which have been washed, it is to be washed again, and it will be clean.

59 “This is the law concerning a mildew contamination in wool or linen fabric, warp or weft, or any leather article, in order to pronounce it clean or unclean.”(S)

Mark 6:1-29

Rejection at Nazareth

He(A) left there and came to his hometown,(B) and his disciples(C) followed him. When the Sabbath(D) came, he began to teach(E) in the synagogue,(F) and many who heard him were astonished. “Where did this man get these things?” they said. “What is this wisdom(G) that has been given to him, and how are these miracles(H) performed by his hands? Isn’t this the carpenter,(I) the son of Mary,(J) and the brother of James,(K) Joses, Judas,(L) and Simon? And aren’t his sisters here with us?” So they were offended(M) by him.

Jesus said to them, “A prophet(N) is not without honor(O) except in his hometown, among his relatives, and in his household.” He was not able to do a miracle(P) there, except that he laid his hands on(Q) a few sick(R) people and healed(S) them. And he was amazed(T) at their unbelief.(U) He was going around the villages teaching.(V)

Commissioning the Twelve

He(W) summoned(X) the Twelve(Y) and began to send(Z) them out in pairs and gave them authority over unclean(AA) spirits.(AB) He instructed them to take nothing for the road except a staff—no bread, no traveling bag,(AC) no money in their belts, but to wear sandals and not put on an extra shirt.(AD) 10 He said to them, “Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you leave that place. 11 If any place does not welcome(AE) you or listen to you, when you leave there, shake the dust off your feet(AF) as a testimony(AG) against them.”[a] 12 So they went out and preached(AH) that people should repent.(AI) 13 They drove out many demons,(AJ) anointed(AK) many sick(AL) people with oil(AM) and healed them.(AN)

John the Baptist Beheaded

14 King(AO) Herod(AP) heard about it, because Jesus’s name(AQ) had become well known. Some[b] said, “John the Baptist(AR) has been raised from the dead,(AS) and that’s why miraculous powers(AT) are at work(AU) in him.” 15 But others said, “He’s Elijah.”(AV) Still others said, “He’s a prophet, like one of the prophets from long ago.”(AW)

16 When Herod(AX) heard of it, he said, “John,(AY) the one I beheaded, has been raised!” (AZ)

17 For(BA) Herod himself had given orders to arrest John and to chain(BB) him in prison on account of Herodias,(BC) his brother Philip’s wife, because he had married her.(BD) 18 John had been telling Herod, “It is not lawful(BE) for you to have your brother’s wife.”(BF) 19 So Herodias held a grudge against him and wanted to kill(BG) him. But she could not, 20 because Herod feared(BH) John and protected him, knowing he was a righteous(BI) and holy(BJ) man. When Herod heard him he would be very perplexed,[c](BK) and yet he liked to listen to him.(BL)

21 An opportune time came on his birthday, when Herod gave a banquet(BM) for his nobles,(BN) military commanders,(BO) and the leading men of Galilee.(BP) 22 When Herodias’s own daughter[d] came in and danced,(BQ) she pleased Herod and his guests. The king said to the girl, “Ask me whatever you want, and I’ll give it to you.” 23 He promised her with an(BR) oath:(BS) “Whatever you ask me I will give you, up to half my kingdom.”(BT)

24 She went out and said to her mother, “What should I ask for?”

“John the Baptist’s(BU) head,” she said.

25 At once she hurried to the king and said, “I want you to give me John the Baptist’s(BV) head on a platter(BW) immediately.” 26 Although the king was deeply distressed,(BX) because of his oaths(BY) and the guests[e] he did not want to refuse(BZ) her. 27 The king immediately sent for an executioner and commanded him to bring John’s head. So he went and beheaded him in prison, 28 brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the girl. Then the girl gave it to her mother. 29 When John’s disciples(CA) heard about it, they came and removed his corpse and placed it in a tomb.(CB)

Psalm 39

Psalm 39

The Fleeting Nature of Life

For the choir director, for Jeduthun. A psalm of David.

I said, “I will guard my ways
so that I may not sin with my tongue;
I will guard my mouth with a muzzle
as long as the wicked are in my presence.”(A)
I was speechless and quiet;
I kept silent, even from speaking good,
and my pain intensified.(B)
My heart grew hot within me;
as I mused, a fire burned.(C)
I spoke with my tongue:
Lord, make me aware of my end
and the number of my days
so that I will know how short-lived I am.(D)
In fact, you have made my days just inches long,
and my life span is as nothing to you.
Yes, every human being stands as only a vapor.(E)Selah
Yes, a person goes about like a mere shadow.
Indeed, they rush around in vain,
gathering possessions
without knowing who will get them.(F)

“Now, Lord, what do I wait for?
My hope is in you.(G)
Rescue me from all my transgressions;
do not make me the taunt of fools.(H)
I am speechless; I do not open my mouth
because of what you have done.(I)
10 Remove your torment from me.
Because of the force of your hand I am finished.(J)
11 You discipline a person with punishment for iniquity,
consuming like a moth what is precious to him;(K)
yes, every human being is only a vapor.(L)Selah

12 “Hear my prayer, Lord,
and listen to my cry for help;
do not be silent at my tears.(M)
For I am here with you as an alien,
a temporary resident like all my ancestors.(N)
13 Turn your angry gaze from me
so that I may be cheered up
before I die and am gone.”(O)

Leviticus 11:1-12:8, Mark 5:21-43, Psalms 38:1-22, Proverbs 10:8-9

Today is the 21st day of February. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I’m Brian. It is great to be here with you. It’s great to be here with you today. Feeling a little little little tiny tiny bit stronger and that’s kinda how it comes on. That’s how the jet lag works. We did have a adrenaline filled day yesterday just because we’re seeing all of this stuff for the first time and experiencing the wilderness and we’ll talk about that in a little while but first we need to take the next step forward as we continue reading through the Scriptures. And today we’ll be able to read the Scriptures here from the southernmost part of Israel city Eilat on the shores of the Red Sea. We’re reading from the Christian Standard Bible this week. Today Leviticus 11 and 12.

Commentary:

Alright. So, in the book of Leviticus today and again, you know, the law and the customs and the rituals are being given and so we can consider this to be a portion of Scripture that’s kind of like dry reading not particularly riveting reading. It’s because of the kind of literature it is, right? So, we read the book of Genesis and we’re reading like a narrative, we’re reading in story form what happens next. And, so, this is how we understand things, right. So, even when we get together and catch up on each other’s lives we’re gonna say this is what happened between the time that we last met and catch each other up and tell it in order. Whereas the law, these are statutes and regulations and rules. We can read this kind of literature and in our modern era by getting online or going to the library and getting a law book, but you never really see those on the bestseller list because they aren’t the most riveting reading. So, we can go through reading like today in the book of Leviticus and just kinda, you know, zone out or glaze over because we’re talking about clean and unclean animals and, you know, the rights of purification after childbirth. And we can see the logic in kind of outlining what can and can’t be eaten, you know, like what’s edible and what has no nutritional value to a human. But that’s when, you know, we might wonder why it’s in the Bible. But if we go a little closer and we remember when we started this particular portion of the Bible there are practical reasons for why things were to be done the way that they were, practical in just community perspective, but everything had a spiritual underpinning. What’s being installed into this culture is that they couldn’t do almost anything at all without it leading back to a reminder of who they were, who God is, and where they’re going. So, if we look a little closer we might each have differing opinions about what kind of animals should or shouldn’t be eaten depending on where we are on the planet, might be able to order a Big Mac in the United States but you probably won’t be able to order that in India and we could definitely get lost in the weeds on trying to determine why somethings clean or unclean in terms of the food supply. But that would be missing the point. Clean and unclean things still do exist in this world and the principal that God’s weaving into the culture of the children of Israel, the principle of clean and unclean, is no less applicable today because it was always intended to be an outward representation of what was happening inside of someone. So, there are for sure, for sure things that we know are not clean and there are things that we know are and whether it’s a behavior or a compulsion or an activity or something that you’re thinking about, the fact that our reading in Leviticus represents an ancient custom has no bearing on the reality that there is still clean and unclean and we should not participate in what is unclean. So maybe we don’t have to be ritually pure anymore but that does not mean we’re not supposed to be pure. And, as we’re out here in the wilderness and we’ve experienced one day in the wilderness and we’ll be experiencing most of today in the wilderness as well it doesn’t take hardly any time to look around and realize, there is no way to survive out here without God. I mean, it would be so…it would be…even now in modern times with modern logistics, if we took a million people, even a half a million people out into this wilderness and tried to sustain them as they moved around without roads, like, I mean it would…it would be virtually impossible now…absolutely impossible then. So, we see that God leading His people into the wilderness where they have no way out and are having to learn and be reframed and reformed into a new people how important this was and how important this is to our own lives. There is clean. There is unclean. If we’re going to consume what is unclean, whether in spirit or body we are going to become defiled. Maybe we’re not going to become ritually impure, but the effects on our body and spirit are going to be the same. We’re separating ourselves from our intended state, holiness and purity. And there is clean. And inside of us we know when we are wandering into unclean territory and we know when we are walking pure and holy and are living clean lives. And as we can see from the book of Leviticus, it matters.

Prayer:

Father, we invite You into that. Yes, we are in the starkness of the wilderness. And yes, this certainly does put us right in the story that we’re reading. And even from the book of Mark when we’re reading Jesus of You casting demons into the swine, we think ahead because we’re gonna go there too. And, so, we can see that You have a lot to say to us as we journey whether here physically in the land of the Bible or whether as a community experience as we day by day just journey through the Scriptures. There’s a lot for You to speak to us as we’re here and we invite You fully. Nothing is off limits to You. Show us the areas that are unclean, the areas that we need to walk away from, the areas that are doing us no good whatsoever. Come, Holy Spirit we pray, in Jesus’ name we ask. Amen.

Announcements:

dailyaudiobible.com is the website, its home base, its where you find out what’s going on around here.

And obviously, we’re in the land of the Bible right now, just kinda getting going on our pilgrimage where we will experience so, so much. We have already been as far west as you can go in the land. That was yesterday in Ashdod on the Mediterranean Sea. It won’t be the last time we’re on the Mediterranean coast, but that’s as far west as you can go. And we’re leaving out from Eilat today. We traveled south all day yesterday through the wilderness and truly got to experience what we’re talking about when we’re talking about the wilderness, right? When we talk about the desert and the story of the children of Israel and their formation, we are here, and it is stark and it is barren and it is desolate and there’s so much that gets brought up in our hearts because of that. And, so, we’re kind of just sitting with it. We were able to visit Beersheba yesterday. Beersheba is the southernmost city within the borders of ancient Israel, right? So, the borders of ancient Israel were known from Dan to Beersheba. So, from Dan in the north to Beersheba in the South. Of course we traveled a lot further south of Beersheba, but visiting there, starting there, looking at how people had to live and how they had to get water in an arid transition zone, understanding that your standing in the book of Genesis, pretty big deal, pretty good place to start. And then we just kind of began to move into the deep desert and we were able to find an outlook and overlook the wilderness of Zin. We haven’t got to this story yet in the Old Testament, but these children of Israel who are getting their laws and customs and being formed right now, they will eventually be preparing to go into the Promise Land and before they do that they will send spies into the land and that will happen from the wilderness of Zin. And, so, we took some time to explore that story and its implications to our own lives before grabbing some lunch. And we had some lunch with the Bedouin folk who live in the desert and travel around in the desert. And even though their culture is modernized to a degree, the desert dwelling people dates back thousands and thousands of years. So, even though desert dwellers may have new newer technologies than they had thousands of years ago they still live very simply and very nomadically, and we were able to have a taste of that, literally and figuratively, as we had lunch together out in the desert. And then we continued our journey south toward the Red Sea, which was our destination. We got some ice cream, got a favorite spot down in the desert where there’s dairy farmers and fresh ice cream. Got to enjoy that before making our way to Eilat and the shores of the Red Sea. And boy, when you’re standing on the shores of the Red Sea after traveling through the wilderness all day long and you’re able to kinda stand there and see into the country of Egypt and see into the country of Saudi Arabia and see into the country of Jordan while standing in the country of Israel, realizing that as you’re looking into the land of Egypt you’re looking into the continent of Africa. Like all of a sudden you realize I am a long way from Kansas, like I am a long way from Spring Hill Tennessee or all of the different places that we’ve come from and it kinda hits us. It hits me every year almost always at the same spot, like…we are…this is really happening…we are really here and yes, I am a long way from home. So, that’s kinda what our day looked like. Today we will be spending most of the day in the desert, but a lot to do. And we’ll be coming out of the desert and we’ll talk about all of that tomorrow. So, thank you for…thank you for your prayers…your continued prayers over safety, stamina, health, logistics just the whole thing, it’s quite a dance to do what we’re doing and keep everything moving in the same direction and on the same page. Thank you for your prayers.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hello Daily Audio Bible family, this is Kay from West South Georgia. This is my second time calling since I found out about this ministry last year. I am with a heavy heart calling in to ask for prayer for my dear friend Elaine. She is in her 70s, one of the most vivacious, healthiest, godliest women I’ve ever known and out of nowhere she got sick with a virus that went to her heart and she is in ICU right now and it’s just…it’s scary for all of us. We know where she’s going if the Lord decides to take her but I’m real selfish right now and so is her family and I just pray that you would pray God’s will that He will heal her from this myocarditis. And before this happened, she went to her family practitioner and she’s never taken medications in her life and they put her on steroids and antibiotics shot and antibiotics orally and inhalers and it just completely flipped a switch in her brain and then she…she tried to hurt herself…tried to end her life then this happened. And now she’s in ICU with her heart at another hospital. So, again, if you would just lift Elaine in prayer that God’s will will be done and give the family and friends peace, that He will hear her this side of heaven. Thank you so much. Bye-bye.

Hello Daily Audio Bible listeners, this is Candace from Oregon and I want to stop and encourage all the musicians among us and pray for all of us including myself. Being a musician for the Lord is a huge, glorious experience and it’s just…it’s usually such a joy, it’s so good. It’s also really, really terrible at times. And all of you, if you’ve spent enough years as one of God’s musicians, you know what I’m talking about, you could give examples of what I’m talking about. But I think if you look across the years…the blessings…if you look across at the details of your experience as God’s musician, the blessings have far outweighed the struggle. So, I would encourage you to do that. Lord, I lift up before you now, along with all the listeners and prayer warriors who are hearing these words now, we lift up the musicians among us Lord and we ask You to bind the enemy from them, to free them into Your service in every way that You desire Lord. Fill their hearts with peace and joy. Encourage them and help them to be disciplined in their efforts and to listen to You Lord and keep their eyes on You. We pray in particular for Lynn __ husband and thank you that she has been there to intercede on his behalf and that her love for him is an undying love that only You can provide. Thank you, Jesus.

Holy Spirit flowing free
please fall down afresh on me
inside outside all through me
take my life Lord let it be
change is all I’m begging please
keep me free from all disease
free my heart from the sin it sees
flesh condemned but spirit frees
when I’m week Lord make me strong
stay with me and carry long
Lord I feel your presence strong
lead me Lord where I belong

Hi everyone, it’s Christy from Kentucky. I wanted to call tonight and reach out to some of our sisters in Christ. First of all, Hurting, in North Carolina, you called about your brother and I’m glad that your brother is getting the help that he needs but I can still hear your concern and I’m just praying for you. You just love your little brother so much that’s so evident and you both have been on such a hard journey and I’m just praying that the Lord will touch and heal both of your hearts and to restore joy back into your lives and to let you walk out the rest of this journey together being healed and happy and knowing that you both have a hope and a future. Also wanted to pray for my sister Kathy in Kentucky and let you know that I’m praying for your brother and your family member that is dealing with addiction. And also Janet, sister Janet, we are praying for your son Jared and we are asking the Lord just to minister to his heart and to give you peace about the decision that you have made to place him in this program. And I’m just asking for the Lord to give you guidance and direction and what you should do regarding Jared’s request to come out of the program. You know, pray about it and when you find peace in your heart you will know the answer. We love you Janet and we’re praying for both you and Jared. I also wanted to speak to our sister Alyssa. You called in and you were just in such hysterics, it just broke my heart to hear your tears and I want you to know dear sister that we are here for you. Everyone, there is a DAB Friends page and if you ever need immediate prayer, if you go on that Facebook page, the DAB Friends you will have immediate responses from people all over the world who will pray for you right away. And Alyssa you are never alone. God promises He’s always with us.

The Daily Audio Bible Reading for Thursday February 21, 2019 (NIV)

Leviticus 11-12

Clean and Unclean Land Animals

11 The Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron: “Tell the Israelites: You may eat(A) all these kinds of land animals.(B) You may eat any animal with divided hooves and that chews the cud. But among the ones that chew the cud or have divided hooves you are not to eat these:

camels,(C) though they chew the cud,

do not have divided hooves—they are unclean for you;

hyraxes,(D) though they chew the cud,

do not have hooves—they are unclean for you;

hares, though they chew the cud,

do not have hooves—they are unclean for you;

pigs, though they have divided hooves,

do not chew the cud—they are unclean for you.

Do not eat any of their meat or touch their carcasses—they are unclean for you.(E)

Clean and Unclean Aquatic Animals

“This is what you may eat from all that is in the water: You may eat everything in the water that has fins and scales, whether in the seas or streams. 10 But these are to be abhorrent to you: everything in the seas or streams that does not have fins and scales among all the swarming things and other living creatures(F) in the water. 11 They are to remain abhorrent to you; you must not eat any of their meat, and you must abhor their carcasses. 12 Everything in the water that does not have fins and scales will be abhorrent to you.

Unclean Birds

13 “You are to abhor these birds. They must not be eaten because they are abhorrent:

eagles,[a](G) bearded vultures,

Egyptian vultures,[b] 14 kites,[c]

any kind of falcon,[d](H)

15 every kind of raven, 16 ostriches,[e]

short-eared owls, gulls,[f]

any kind of hawk,(I)

17 little[g] owls, cormorants,[h]

long-eared owls,[i](J)

18 barn[j] owls, eagle owls,[k](K)

ospreys, 19 storks,[l]

any kind of heron,[m]

hoopoes, and bats.

Clean and Unclean Flying Insects

20 “All winged insects that walk on all fours are to be abhorrent to you. 21 But you may eat these kinds of all the winged insects that walk on all fours: those that have jointed legs above their feet for hopping on the ground. 22 You may eat these:

any kind of locust,(L) katydid, cricket, and grasshopper.

23 All other winged insects that have four feet are to be abhorrent to you.

Purification after Touching Dead Animals

24 “These will make you unclean. Whoever touches their carcasses will be unclean(M) until evening, 25 and whoever carries any of their carcasses is to wash his clothes and will be unclean until evening.(N) 26 All animals that have hooves but do not have a divided hoof and do not chew the cud are unclean for you. Whoever touches them becomes unclean. 27 All the four-footed animals(O) that walk on their paws are unclean for you. Whoever touches their carcasses will be unclean until evening, 28 and anyone who carries their carcasses is to wash his clothes and will be unclean until evening. They are unclean for you.

29 “These creatures that swarm(P) on the ground are unclean for you:

weasels,[n] mice,(Q)

any kind of large lizard,[o]

30 geckos, monitor lizards,[p]

common lizards,[q] skinks,[r]

and chameleons.[s]

31 These are unclean for you among all the swarming creatures. Whoever touches them when they are dead will be unclean until evening. 32 When any one of them dies and falls on anything it becomes unclean—any item of wood, clothing, leather, sackcloth,(R) or any implement used for work. It is to be rinsed with water and will remain unclean until evening; then it will be clean. 33 If any of them falls into any clay pot, everything in it will become unclean; you are to break it. 34 Any edible food(S) coming into contact with that unclean water will become unclean, and any drinkable liquid in any container will become unclean. 35 Anything one of their carcasses falls on will become unclean. If it is an oven or stove, it is to be smashed; it is unclean and will remain unclean for you. 36 A spring or cistern containing water will remain clean, but someone who touches a carcass in it will become unclean. 37 If one of their carcasses falls on any seed that is to be sown, it is clean; 38 but if water has been put on the seed and one of their carcasses falls on it, it is unclean for you.

39 “If one of the animals that you use for food dies, anyone who touches its carcass will be unclean until evening. 40 Anyone who eats some of its carcass is to wash his clothes and will be unclean until evening. Anyone who carries its carcass must wash his clothes and will be unclean until evening.

Unclean Swarming Creatures

41 “All the creatures that swarm on the earth are abhorrent; they must not be eaten. 42 Do not eat any of the creatures that swarm on the earth, anything that moves on its belly or walks on all fours or on many feet,[t] for they are abhorrent. 43 Do not become contaminated by any creature that swarms; do not become unclean or defiled by them. 44 For I am the Lord your God,(T) so you must consecrate yourselves(U) and be holy because I am holy.(V) Do not defile yourselves by any swarming creature that crawls on the ground. 45 For I am the Lord, who brought you up from the land of Egypt to be your God,(W) so you must be holy because I am holy.(X)

46 “This is the law concerning animals, birds, all living creatures that move in the water, and all creatures that swarm on the ground, 47 in order to distinguish between the unclean and the clean, between the animals(Y) that may be eaten and those that may not be eaten.”

Purification after Childbirth

12 The Lord spoke to Moses: “Tell the Israelites: When a woman becomes pregnant and gives birth to a male child,(Z) she will be unclean seven days, as she is during the days of her menstrual impurity.(AA) The flesh of his foreskin(AB) must be circumcised(AC) on the eighth day.(AD) She will continue in purification(AE) from her bleeding(AF) for thirty-three days. She must not touch any holy thing or go into the sanctuary until completing her days of purification. But if she gives birth to a female child, she will be unclean for two weeks as she is during her menstrual impurity. She will continue in purification from her bleeding for sixty-six days.

“When her days of purification are complete, whether for a son or daughter, she is to bring to the priest at the entrance to the tent of meeting a year-old male lamb for a burnt offering, and a young pigeon or a turtledove for a sin[u] offering. He will present them before the Lord and make atonement on her behalf; she will be clean from her discharge of blood. This is the law for a woman giving birth, whether to a male or female. But if she doesn’t have sufficient means[v](AG) for a sheep, she may take two turtledoves or two young pigeons,(AH) one for a burnt offering and the other for a sin offering. Then the priest will make atonement on her behalf, and she will be clean.”

Mark 5:21-43

A Girl Restored and a Woman Healed

21 When(A) Jesus had crossed over again by boat[a] to the other side, a large crowd(B) gathered around him while he was by the sea. 22 One of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus,(C) came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet(D) 23 and begged him earnestly, “My little daughter is dying. Come and lay your hands on(E) her so that she can get well[b](F) and live.” 24 So Jesus went with him, and a large crowd was following and pressing against him.

25 Now a woman suffering from bleeding(G) for twelve years 26 had endured(H) much under many doctors.(I) She had spent everything she had and was not helped at all. On the contrary, she became worse. 27 Having heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched(J) his clothing.(K) 28 For she said, “If I just touch his clothes, I’ll be made well.”(L) 29 Instantly her flow of blood ceased, and she sensed in her body that she was healed(M) of her affliction.

30 At once Jesus realized in himself that power(N) had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd(O) and said, “Who touched my clothes?”(P)

31 His disciples said to him, “You see the crowd pressing against you, and yet you say, ‘Who touched me?’

32 But he was looking around to see who had done this. 33 The woman, with fear and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down(Q) before him, and told him the whole truth.(R) 34 “Daughter,” he said to her, “your faith(S) has saved you.(T) Go in peace and be healed(U) from your affliction.”(V)

35 While he was still speaking, people came from the synagogue leader’s house and said, “Your daughter is dead. Why bother the teacher(W) anymore?”

36 When Jesus overheard[c] what was said, he told the synagogue leader, “Don’t be afraid.(X) Only believe.” 37 He did not let anyone accompany him except Peter,(Y) James,(Z) and John,(AA) James’s brother. 38 They came to the leader’s house, and he saw a commotion—people weeping and wailing loudly. 39 He went in and said to them, “Why are you making a commotion and weeping?(AB) The child(AC) is not dead but asleep.”(AD) 40 They laughed at him, but he put them all outside. He took the child’s father,(AE) mother, and those who were with him, and entered the place where the child was. 41 Then he took the child(AF) by the hand and said to her, “Talitha koum”[d] (which is translated, “Little girl, I say to you, get up”(AG)). 42 Immediately the girl got up(AH) and began to walk.(AI) (She was twelve years old.) At this they were utterly astounded.(AJ) 43 Then he gave them strict orders that no one should know about this(AK) and told them to give her something to eat.

Prayer of a Suffering Sinner

A psalm of David for remembrance.(A)

Lord, do not punish me in your anger
or discipline me in your wrath.(B)
For your arrows have sunk into me,
and your hand has pressed down on me.(C)

There is no soundness in my body
because of your indignation;
there is no health[a] in my bones
because of my sin.(D)
For my iniquities have flooded over my head;
they are a burden too heavy for me to bear.(E)

I am bent over and brought very low;
all day long I go around in mourning.(G)
For my insides are full of burning pain,
and there is no soundness in my body.(H)
I am faint and severely crushed;
I groan because of the anguish of my heart.(I)

Lord, my every desire is in front of you;
my sighing is not hidden from you.(J)

14 I am like a man who does not hear

15 For I put my hope in you, Lord;
you will answer me, my Lord, my God.(P)

Leviticus 9:7-10:20, Mark 4:26-5:20, Psalms 37:30-40, Proverbs 10:6-7

Today is the 20th day of February. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian again with a big smile on my face because I am happy, but I am forcing this smile because I am tired. But that’s okay. You know, jet lag is something that dissipates. Greetings from the land of the Bible. We are in Ashdod on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea with the ocean out there and it’s beautiful as always. Ashdod was a Philistine stronghold, one of their five governing cities back in the day. And we haven’t gotten to this point in our reading from the Scriptures we’re we begin to interact with the Philistines, but the Israelites and the Philistines were not always compatible, but our modern Ashdod is a coastal city and this is where we all gathered and got to know each other a bit last night and kind of just interact a little. Excitement is high. Fatigue is fairly high. Think we’re gonna be running largely on adrenaline today but that makes for a good night’s sleep tonight and that’s what we need. So, today we’ll be heading out from Ashdod and heading south into the wilderness and I’ll share that story tomorrow. But today, we need to get into the Scriptures and take the next step forward. That will lead us back into the book of Leviticus. We’re reading from the Christian Standard Bible this week. Leviticus 9:7 through 10:20.

Commentary:

Okay. So, in the book of Matthew yesterday, Jesus used agricultural examples, seed and soil and types of soil and what happens to the seed based on what type of soil that it’s planted in. And, so, as we came into today’s reading from the gospel of Mark we find that Jesus wasn’t done with that discussion. He just kind of expanded it to the whole of God’s kingdom. And the example He used was how a farmer will go out and plant at the right time and then, you know, he’ll wake up and go to sleep and wake up and go to sleep and wake up and go to sleep, days will pass, even months will pass, both day and night and the plant will grow. The crop will grow even though the farmer doesn’t have any control over it and has to patiently wait. And then Jesus also compared the kingdom of heaven to a tiny mustard seed, right? It’s the smallest of all seeds He said but then it becomes the largest of the plants in the field. So, Jesus chose these metaphors for reason and in part it would be because his hearers would understand the story but they are no less poignant for us today at all because, in effect Jesus is telling us that the kingdom of heaven is happening all the time, right, day and night, even while the farmer doesn’t know how it’s happening it is happening, right? And Jesus also says that the kingdom of heaven is a collaboration, right seed and soil and although it begins small and grows and spreads and flourishes and gives life as we patiently cultivate and participate in the harvest. So, the kingdom is everywhere, and the kingdom is now. And even though we’re waiting for the fullness of the harvest, right, the fullness of God’s kingdom, we are supposed to be diligent in planting seeds and nurturing the growth and harvesting the fruit. And it’s not just out facing into the world, like we need to plant good seeds of good behavior and plant little witnesses of Jesus all over the place, although that we are. It’s also supposed to be as near as our own heart. We have to consider what’s being planted inside of us, because whatever it is that’s what’s going to grow up around us and we don’t want to have a lot of weeds planted in our lives and then they grow up without us even knowing how their growing up around us. We want to be good soil.

Prayer:

Father, we acknowledge all of this and we invite Your Holy Spirit to come. This is a year where we are supposed to maintain, which means we are supposed to do maintenance. And in so many ways this is exactly what You’re talking about when we’re talking about being good soil and tending a garden and seeing the kingdom flourish, not only with in us, but around us everywhere we go. And we will not be able to maintain or cultivate this without Your Holy Spirit and we won’t be able to plant these good seeds or allow them to be planted in our lives if we aren’t good soil. So, come Holy Spirit, show us the thorny places, show us the rocky places, show us the stubborn places that need to become good soil. As we reclaim these stony and thorny places in our lives and cultivate good soil within them, then the garden of our heart is expanding, and we have more room for more harvest. So, come Holy Spirit we pray. In the mighty name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.

And what’s going on around here is that our journey, our pilgrimage throughout the land of the Bible, well, it kinda began last night at our dinner but we’ll all be loading up on the buses and going and seeing things today and changing geography. We will end up quite a ways south of where we are right now. We’re on the Mediterranean coast. So, we are, well, we’re essentially as westward as you can go in the land of the Bible because there’s an ocean there, there’s nowhere else to go. But we will be heading to the southernmost point of Israel today as we experience the wilderness. And we’ll be posting pictures, videos, anything that we can to kind of keep this an interactive process as it’s happening. So, certainly follow Daily Audio Bible on all the social media channels. You can find them at dailyaudiobible.com in the Community section. And yeah, just asking for your prayers. Leviticus 9:7-10:20

Then Moses said to Aaron, “Approach the altar and sacrifice your sin offering and your burnt offering; make atonement for yourself and the people.[a](A) Sacrifice the people’s offering and make atonement for them, as the Lord commanded.”

So Aaron approached the altar and slaughtered the calf as a sin offering for himself. Aaron’s sons brought the blood to him, and he dipped his finger in the blood and applied it to the horns of the altar. He poured out the blood at the base of the altar. 10 He burned the fat, the kidneys, and the fatty lobe of the liver from the sin offering on the altar, as the Lord had commanded Moses. 11 He burned the flesh and the hide(B) outside the camp.(C)

12 Then he slaughtered the burnt offering. Aaron’s sons brought him the blood, and he splattered it on all sides of the altar. 13 They brought him the burnt offering piece by piece, along with the head, and he burned them on the altar. 14 He washed the entrails and the legs and burned them with the burnt offering on the altar.

15 Aaron presented the people’s offering. He took the male goat for the people’s sin offering, slaughtered it, and made a sin offering with it as he did before. 16 He presented the burnt offering and sacrificed it according to the regulation.(D) 17 Next he presented the grain offering, took a handful of it, and burned it on the altar in addition to the morning burnt offering.(E)

18 Finally, he slaughtered the ox and the ram as the people’s fellowship sacrifice. Aaron’s sons brought him the blood, and he splattered it on all sides of the altar. 19 They also brought the fat portions from the ox and the ram—the fat tail, the fat surrounding the entrails, the kidneys, and the fatty lobe of the liver— 20 and placed these on the breasts. Aaron burned the fat portions on the altar, 21 but he presented the breasts(F) and the right thigh as a presentation offering(G) before the Lord, as Moses had commanded.[b]

22 Aaron lifted up his hands toward the people and blessed(H) them. He came down after sacrificing the sin offering, the burnt offering, and the fellowship offering. 23 Moses and Aaron then entered the tent of meeting. When they came out, they blessed the people, and the glory of the Lord appeared to all the people. 24 Fire came from the Lord and consumed(I) the burnt offering and the fat portions on the altar. And when all the people saw it, they shouted(J) and fell facedown.(K)

Nadab and Abihu

10 Aaron’s sons Nadab(L) and Abihu(M) each took his own firepan,(N) put fire in it, placed incense on it,(O) and presented unauthorized(P) fire before the Lord, which he had not commanded them to do. Then fire came from the Lord(Q) and consumed them, and they died before the Lord.(R) Moses said to Aaron, “This is what the Lord has spoken:

I will demonstrate my holiness[c](S)
to those who are near me,(T)
and I will reveal my glory[d](U)
before all the people.”

And Aaron remained silent.

Moses summoned Mishael and Elzaphan,(V) sons of Aaron’s uncle Uzziel,(W) and said to them, “Come here and carry your relatives away from the front of the sanctuary to a place outside the camp.”(X) So they came forward and carried them in their tunics outside the camp, as Moses had said.

Then Moses said to Aaron and his sons Eleazar and Ithamar,(Y) “Do not let your hair hang loose(Z) and do not tear your clothes,(AA) or else you will die, and the Lord will become angry(AB) with the whole community. However, your brothers, the whole house of Israel, may weep(AC) over the conflagration the Lord ignited. You must not go outside the entrance to the tent of meeting or you will die, for the Lord’s anointing oil(AD) is on you.” So they did as Moses said.

Regulations for Priests

The Lord spoke to Aaron: “You and your sons are not to drink wine(AE) or beer(AF) when you enter the tent of meeting, or else you will die; this is a permanent statute(AG) throughout your generations. 10 You must distinguish(AH) between the holy and the common,(AI) and the clean and the unclean,(AJ) 11 and teach the Israelites all the statutes(AK) that the Lord has given to them through Moses.”

12 Moses spoke to Aaron and his remaining sons, Eleazar and Ithamar: “Take the grain offering that is left over from the fire offerings(AL) to the Lord, and eat it prepared without yeast beside the altar, because it is especially holy. 13 You must eat it in a holy place because it is your portion[e] and your sons’ from the fire offerings to the Lord, for this is what I was commanded. 14 But you and your sons and your daughters may eat the breast of the presentation offering and the thigh of the contribution in any ceremonially clean place, because these portions have been assigned to you and your children from the Israelites’ fellowship sacrifices. 15 They are to bring the thigh of the contribution and the breast of the presentation offering, together with the offerings of fat portions made by fire, to present as a presentation offering before the Lord. It will belong permanently(AM) to you and your children, as the Lord commanded.”

16 Then Moses inquired carefully about the male goat of the sin offering, but it had already been burned up. He was angry with Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron’s surviving sons, and asked, 17 “Why didn’t you eat the sin offering in the sanctuary area?(AN) For it is especially holy, and he has assigned it to you to take away the guilt(AO) of the community(AP) and make atonement for them before the Lord. 18 Since its blood was not brought inside the sanctuary, you should have eaten it in the sanctuary area, as I commanded.”(AQ)

19 But Aaron replied to Moses, “See, today they presented their sin offering and their burnt offering before the Lord. Since these things have happened to me, if I had eaten the sin offering today, would it have been acceptable in the Lord’s sight?” 20 When Moses heard this, it was acceptable to him.[f]

Mark 4:26-5:20

The Parable of the Growing Seed

26 “The kingdom of God(A) is like this,” he said. “A man scatters seed on the ground. 27 He sleeps(B) and rises(C) night(D) and day; the seed sprouts and grows, although he doesn’t know how. 28 The soil produces a crop(E) by itself—first the blade, then the head, and then the full grain(F) on the head. 29 As soon as the crop is ready, he sends for the sickle,(G) because the harvest(H) has come.”

The Parable of the Mustard Seed

30 And(I) he said, “With what can we compare the kingdom of God,(J) or what parable(K) can we use to describe it? 31 It’s like a mustard seed(L) that, when sown upon the soil, is the smallest of all the seeds on the ground. 32 And when sown,(M) it comes up and grows taller than all the garden plants,(N) and produces large branches, so that the birds of the sky(O) can nest in its shade.”

Using Parables

33 He was speaking the word(P) to them with many parables(Q) like these, as they were able to understand.(R) 34 He did not speak to them without a parable. Privately, however, he explained everything to his own disciples.(S)

Wind and Waves Obey Jesus

35 On(T) that day, when evening had come, he told them, “Let’s cross over to the other side of the sea.” 36 So they left the crowd and took him along since he was in the boat. And other boats were with him. 37 A great windstorm(U) arose, and the waves(V) were breaking over the boat, so that the boat was already being swamped. 38 He was in the stern, sleeping(W) on the cushion. So they woke him up(X) and said to him, “Teacher! Don’t you care that we’re going to die?” (Y)

39 He got up, rebuked(Z) the wind, and said to the sea, “Silence!(AA) Be still!” The wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 Then he said to them, “Why are you afraid?(AB) Do you still have no faith?”

41 And they were terrified[a](AC) and asked one another, “Who then is this? Even the wind and the sea obey(AD) him!” (AE)

Demons Driven Out by Jesus

They(AF) came to the other side of the sea, to the region of the Gerasenes.[b] As soon as he got out of the boat, a man with an unclean(AG) spirit(AH) came out of the tombs(AI) and met him. He lived in the tombs,(AJ) and no one was able to restrain him anymore—not even with a chain(AK) because he often had been bound with shackles and chains, but had torn the chains apart and smashed(AL) the shackles. No one was strong enough to subdue(AM) him. Night(AN) and day among the tombs(AO) and on the mountains,(AP) he was always crying out and cutting himself with stones.

When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and knelt down before him. And he cried out with a loud voice, “What do you have to do with me, Jesus, Son(AQ) of the Most High God?(AR) I beg you before God, don’t torment(AS) me!” For he had told him, “Come out of the man, you unclean(AT) spirit!”(AU)

“What is your name?” he asked him.

“My name is Legion,”(AV) he answered him, “because we are many.” 10 And he begged him earnestly not to send them out of the region.

11 A large herd of pigs(AW) was there, feeding(AX) on the hillside. 12 The demons[c] begged him, “Send us to the pigs, so that we may enter them.” 13 So he gave them permission, and the unclean(AY) spirits(AZ) came out and entered the pigs. The herd of about two thousand rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned there.

14 The men who tended them[d] ran off(BA) and reported it in the town and the countryside, and people went to see what had happened. 15 They came to Jesus and saw the man who had been demon-possessed,(BB)(BC) sitting there, dressed and in his right mind;(BD) and they were afraid.(BE) 16 Those who had seen it described to them what had happened to the demon-possessed(BF) man and told about the pigs. 17 Then they began to beg him to leave their region.

18 As he was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed begged him earnestly that he might remain with him. 19 Jesus did not let him but told him, “Go home to your own people, and report to them how much the Lord(BG) has done(BH) for you and how he has had mercy on you.” 20 So he went out and began to proclaim(BI) in the Decapolis(BJ) how much Jesus had done for him, and they were all amazed.(BK)

Leviticus 7:28-9:6, Mark 3:31-4:25, Psalms 37:12-29, Proverbs 10:5

Today is the 19th day of February. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian, sounding a little more chipper than I feel. Jetlag is not my favorite, but welcome from the land of the Bible here in Israel. We’ve made it safe and sound and are getting all set up to take the journey around this entire land and tonight for the first time we’ll have our opening dinner, and everybody will get to see each other for the first time. I mean, lots people are on the same flights, that’s the thing of it, flights from all over are landing in the land of Israel today and everyone will be collected and we’ll all be together for the first time as a group tonight. So, thank you for your prayers over all of it. A lot of travel is happening today. Jet lag is being experienced today and there are a lot of logistics that are all to be put in place for this journey. So, thank you for your prayers and for the first time this year we will read the Bible from the land of the Bible, which will take us back into the book of Leviticus. We’re reading from the Christian Standard Bible this week. Leviticus 7:28 through 9:6.

Commentary:

Okay. So, in the gospel of Mark, Jesus is talking about agriculture, he’s talking about seedtime and harvest and planting and types of soil and then paralleling that with how people respond to the word of God. So, Jesus talked about a farmer who sowed a lot of seed and the seed itself was all uniformly good, right? Like the seed wasn’t the problem. And the seed had been scattered evenly over the ground so that the dispersion wasn’t the problem. However, after having done all of that, the hope of the harvest for the farmer had a lot more to do with the soil that the seed was planted in, right? The seed and the soil are equally important in the story revealing the collaboration that’s required between the human and the divine in God’s kingdom. And then Jesus kind of unpacks it, talks about the different kinds of soil that this seed fell into and then what happened to the seed because of the soil that it was planted in. So, I mean, we’re like a month…over a month and a half into our journey since the beginning of the year and we’ve been daily interacting with God’s word and we've…you know…we’ve established a rhythm to do this every day for the rest of this year. And, so, the obvious poignant question for us is, what kind of soil our hearts are becoming? None of us don’t want the harvest in our lives, right? We all want the harvest in our lives, but if the seeds only gonna be on the surface it’s gonna get snatched away. If this seed is going to be planted in our hard and stony hearts there is nowhere for the word of God to take root, and if we’re distracted continually by worry or seduced into chasing any other number of desires than the soil of our heart is thorny and it’s gonna choke God’s word out. So, we’re about to take a journey all over the land of the Bible and it will be interactive and it will be fun and I we’ll have a good time and there’ll be lots of pictures posted and lots of conversation about what we’re seeing but since we’re right out in the front of this we can make this very poignant for ourselves. Whether we’re here or whether we’re doing this virtually, maybe it’s time to tend the garden of our hearts. Like, maybe it’s time to intentionally become good soil and not just say, “well, I got what I got”. I mean, the soil back on the other side of the ocean where I live in Tennessee, there’s a lot of rock and there’s a lot of building going on over there, a lot of subdivisions are being built. So, I’ve watched huge, you know, earthmoving machinery smash and pull out and smooth over rocky ground to make it suitable soil for building otherwise, you know, the builder or whoever the developer was to go, “well, the soils rocky, we can’t build anything here”. But instead they kind of tended it and made it what they wanted it to be so they could build on it. We have to tend the garden of our hearts. We have to maintain the soil of our hearts so that it’s good and ready to receive the word of God and the seed that it plants in our lives so that it can be cultivated and become the fruit of the Spirit.

Prayer:

Holy Spirit, we invite You into that by first just taking an assessment of what kind of soil is in our hearts. And the truth probably is that we have all these kinds of soil in our hearts. There are hard places, there are stony places, there are thorny places, but there are good places too, and we want more and more of our heart to be good fertile soil so that we might produce a harvest of 30 60 or even 100 times as much has been planted. So, Holy Spirit show us how to cultivate the soil of our hearts. And we do this in part, by the way that we act and behave toward each other. So, give us an understanding and patient heart Father, we pray. In Jesus’ name we ask. Amen.

It’s a drastic difference when you’re moving eight hours into the future because that’s enough time to get your days and nights mixed up and that is what I experience and I don’t like it because I don’t like that disoriented feeling of not really knowing where I’m at and that takes a few days. Thank you for your prayers over that. I know I’m not the only one who experiences it. We’re all in this together. And, yeah, I’ve got my remedies. Every time I mention jetlag on the Daily Audio Bible I get some new ones. Some of them are good. I mean, I’ve tried lots of things, but the bottom line is at some point or another when you’re just getting into the…into the shift your bodies like wait, it’s supposed to be dark and it’s light, we’re supposed to be sleeping but we’re awake, or vice versa and its just part of the journey. So, thank you for your prayers. Tonight, we will all have dinner together and it’ll the first time that we’re all in the same place at the same time and we’ll just set pray into and go over all that will be happening and then tomorrow morning we’ll be loading up and off we’ll go and I will be giving you updates every day about where we’re going, we’re seeing, we’re thinking about, we’re experiencing. And we just ask you to pray for us as we do this journeying. We’ll be leaving in the morning and heading into the wilderness.

Of course, there are other things going on at the Daily Audio Bible at dailyaudiobible.com. The Prayer Wall lives in the Community section. And if you need prayer or if you want to pray for your brothers and sisters, that’s a really good place to reach out. All of our social media channels can be found in the community section of dailyaudiobible.com. This is where we will be posting videos and photographs etc. about the journey and what we’re seeing and experiencing as we’re seeing and experiencing it. So, if want to follow along there. In a few days, this weekend, I believe this is scheduled for Saturday and I’ll get all…I’ve gotta actually get a little bit beyond this jet lag and kind of look up all the different time zones and blah blah blah but we will be broadcasting live once we arrive at the sea of Galilee, and that is always a fun experience because we can take questions from brothers and sisters all over the world who are kind of going on this trip virtually, kind of bring you right in with us where we are at the sea of Galilee. So, I’ll be mentioning that as we get a little bit further.

If you want to partner with the Daily Audio Bible, you can do that at dailyaudiobible.com. There is a link, it lives on the homepage at dailyaudiobible.com. Thank you for your partnership, profoundly and humbly.

If you have a prayer request or comment, there is a number you can dial, 877-942-4253 is that number.

And that’s it for today. Signing off for the first time from the from the land of Israel. I’m Brian I love you and I’ll be waiting for you here tomorrow.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hey everybody this is Pelham from Birmingham, from Alabama calling. I’m always calling in for myself, it’s always selfishness and I’m working on that. I’m sorry. There’s so many people that I pray for on the line that call that come through. I forgot your name, soccer player that’s gonna be like standing like he’s on the cross every time he scores a goal, the young man that’s waiting to find a club to hire him to get him recruited. Praying for that guy. I’m praying for so many different women going through so many different things. I’m calling today because…I miss my wife. It’s Valentine’s Day. I haven’t talked to her in almost 2 months. She hasn’t said a word to me and she called today, she called this morning. I don’t know what to do. She won’t listen to me. She thinks that the God that I worship is not the right God. She thinks that we serve a different God, that she believes in a different God than me. I don’t know what that means. There’s one God and she knows that. I don’t understand. Please, you all pray for my family, pray for the Morris family and Anderson and Molly and Pelham. Thank you.

Hello Daily Audio Bible, my name is Kevin and I’m reaching out for support as I embark on my quest for a righteous life in the name of the Lord. I feel I have many sins to repent for and I am coming back into my faith after many years away from it. In my 20s __ had kept in contact with the Lord but only through spirts of troubled times. And I’m just calling for support as make my way back into this life and the life God has called upon the. I’ve struggled with the thought that I’d made a family without marriage and I’ve struggled with a past addiction of alcohol and the destruction it caused upon me and others. I hope the Lord will forgive me and I pray to stay in the narrow path He has. May the wisdom of God follow me. Lord keep us safe. Thank you.

Hi guys this is Tito Ramirez again calling from Southern California. I was just calling…I was listening to the community prayer line and I was just drawn to call in. I love you guys so much, and that prayer line is so amazing. I listen to it a lot just like Slave of Jesus, you know, when I commute back and forth and stuff in the car. And Rebecca from Michigan, I know you called a while back asking about how it is that our relationship with the Lord, God’s relationship with the church is like marriage. And I was listening today and I’m not sure what the ladies name was but she called in and was tearful and sad because she was going through a difficult time in her marriage where she had been betrayed and her husband was a sex addict and it sounded like they were trying to work through it but there was a lot of pain and a lot of hurt. And this came at the same time when we were listening to Brian read to us about the children of Israel betraying God in the wilderness and worshiping the calf and the amount of hurt. And God, God kind of, you know, the kids that I treat always say they kind of wore it, He kind of just exposed His emotion and His hurt. And I think that’s one way. And I think that as we go through the Bible and we learn more about God and how He responds and how He actually feels when we do certain things we can understand more about how His relationships are like, you the relationship of a parent and child or a relationship of a marriage with the church. And, you know, just think that how much God loves us when you hear somebody hurt like that, like she was hurting. I always think like, okay, you’re not alone, God knows that or Jesus knows that. It’s the hurt of betrayal and it makes me want to be better because I love Christ and I don’t want to hurt Him like that. I don’t want to hurt God like that. If God loves us perfectly I don’t want to betray that. And, so, I hope that helps to shed some…

Hi, DAB this is Kathleen in Mount Zion Illinois and I’m just calling in for Much Afraid who, I just heard your message on…today is February 15th and you just couldn’t give us a lot of detail on what to pray about. And anyway I just first of all want to thank you for the service to the Lord that you have been doing for the past 15 years there in an Asian country, in a Buddhist country. I can imagine the opposition that you face every day. Whether physical or spiritual, I can just imagine. And you are saying…you weren’t able to really say what was the issue, but it sounded like you are having some spiritual battles. So, I just wanted to let you know that I am praying for you. In fact, let’s just pray right now. Dear Lord Jesus, please give strength of mind and body to Much Afraid, that she can call us another time with her other name that she had mentioned. She said I should Overcome. Lord Jesus I just pray that you give her strength. Whatever battles she is facing just pray that the whole body of DAB listeners right now, thousands and thousands throughout the world pray throughout the world pray. We pray right now for Overcomer, for Much Afraid who will be overcomer and pray that she will strengthen her and thank you again for her heart of a missionary that What she has done I admire that so much…

Hi everyone at Daily Audio Bible, my name’s Megan, I am in London. __ to be calling, this is my first ever call. I first started listening just towards the end of last year but then I decided to restart everything on the 1st of January. Basically, the only reason I’m able to call today is, I, unfortunately had a migraine earlier and was sent home early from work. And its weird how God works in mysterious ways. It means I’ve managed to come home, I’ve got the house to myself for a couple of hours. I was listening to the prayers on the way home and already my head is feeling tons better. So, yeah, prayer is powerful. I can’t quite remember his name, but I think it was something along…Christ is the Light or The Light or The Light of Christ. You called in a couple of weeks ago and you’ve been in my thoughts ever since and I think you’re having a really, really tough time to say the least, but I want you to know that I’ve been praying for you every day and, well, I don’t know if things are better for you yet, but if they’re not I just want you to know God is with you, we’re all with you and I hope you feel His presence and the strength that He gives you. And I’ve got a request myself. Unfortunately, my cousin is estranged from her mother. She’s currently living with my own parent’s. I don’t live there anymore and __ and everything, but it’s really having a really strong impact on everyone. I’m not going to go into the details, it’s not my story to share but I know it’s kind of breaking up everyone’s hearts. So, if you could just pray for them. I know there are some good things coming out of it. I mean I’ve managed to reconnect with my cousins who I haven’t been out to see for years and that, just to be honest, if it weren’t for this whole situation then I probably wouldn’t have found this app. So, I am grateful to the Lord…I mean…wouldn’t it…

The Daily Audio Bible Reading for Tuesday February 19, 2019 (NIV)

Leviticus 7:28-9:6

The Portion for the Priests

28 The Lord spoke to Moses: 29 “Tell the Israelites: The one who presents a fellowship sacrifice to the Lord is to bring an offering to the Lord from his sacrifice. 30 His own hands will bring the fire offerings to the Lord. He will bring the fat together with the breast. The breast is to be presented as a presentation offering(A) before the Lord. 31 The priest is to burn the fat on the altar, but the breast belongs to Aaron and his sons. 32 You are to give the right thigh(B) to the priest as a contribution from your fellowship sacrifices. 33 The son of Aaron who presents the blood of the fellowship offering and the fat will have the right thigh as a portion. 34 I have taken from the Israelites the breast of the presentation offering and the thigh of the contribution from their fellowship sacrifices, and have assigned them to the priest Aaron and to his sons as a permanent portion[a](C) from the Israelites.”

35 This is the portion from the fire offerings to the Lord for Aaron and his sons(D) since the day they were presented to serve the Lord as priests. 36 The Lord commanded this to be given to them by the Israelites on the day he anointed them.(E) It is a permanent portion throughout their generations.

37 This is the law for the burnt offering, the grain offering, the sin offering, the guilt offering, the ordination offering,(F) and the fellowship sacrifice, 38 which the Lord commanded Moses on Mount Sinai(G) on the day he commanded the Israelites to present their offerings to the Lord in the Wilderness of Sinai.(H)

Ordination of Aaron and His Sons

The Lord spoke to Moses: “Take Aaron, his sons with him, the garments, the anointing oil,(I) the bull of the sin[b] offering, the two rams, and the basket(J) of unleavened bread, and assemble the whole community(K) at the entrance to the tent of meeting.” So Moses did as the Lord commanded him, and the community assembled at the entrance to the tent of meeting. Moses said to them, “This is what the Lord has commanded to be done.”

Then Moses presented Aaron and his sons and washed them with water. He put the tunic on Aaron, wrapped the sash around him, clothed him with the robe, and put the ephod(L) on him. He put the woven band of the ephod around him and fastened it to him. Then he put the breastpiece on him and placed the Urim and Thummim(M) into the breastpiece. He also put the turban(N) on his head and placed the gold medallion, the holy diadem, on the front of the turban, as the Lord had commanded Moses.(O)

10 Then Moses took the anointing oil and anointed the tabernacle and everything in it to consecrate(P) them. 11 He sprinkled some of the oil on the altar seven times, anointing the altar with all its utensils, and the basin with its stand, to consecrate them.(Q) 12 He poured some of the anointing oil on Aaron’s head and anointed and consecrated him.(R) 13 Then Moses presented Aaron’s sons, clothed them with tunics, wrapped sashes around them, and fastened headbands on them, as the Lord had commanded Moses.

14 Then he brought the bull near for the sin offering, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the bull for the sin offering. 15 Then Moses slaughtered it,[c] took the blood, and applied it with his finger to the horns of the altar on all sides, purifying(S) the altar. He poured out the blood at the base of the altar and consecrated it so that atonement can be made on it.[d](T) 16 Moses took all the fat that was on the entrails, the fatty lobe of the liver, and the two kidneys(U) with their fat, and he burned them on the altar.(V) 17 He burned the bull with its hide, flesh, and waste outside the camp,(W) as the Lord had commanded Moses.

18 Then he presented the ram for the burnt offering, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the ram. 19 Moses slaughtered it and[e] splattered the blood on all sides of the altar. 20 Moses cut the ram into pieces and burned the head, the pieces, and the fat,(X) 21 but he washed the entrails and legs with water. He then burned the entire ram on the altar. It was a burnt offering for a pleasing aroma, a fire offering to the Lord as he had commanded Moses.

22 Next he presented the second ram, the ram of ordination,(Y) and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the ram. 23 Moses slaughtered it,[f] took some of its blood, and put it on Aaron’s right earlobe, on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot.(Z) 24 Moses also presented Aaron’s sons and put some of the blood on their right earlobes, on the thumbs of their right hands, and on the big toes of their right feet. Then Moses splattered the blood on all sides of the altar. 25 He took the fat—the fat tail,(AA) all the fat that was on the entrails, the fatty lobe of the liver, and the two kidneys with their fat—as well as the right thigh. 26 From the basket of unleavened bread that was before the Lord he took one cake of unleavened bread, one cake of bread made with oil, and one wafer, and placed them on the fat portions and the right thigh.(AB) 27 He put all these in the hands of Aaron and his sons and presented them before the Lord as a presentation offering. 28 Then Moses took them from their hands and burned them on the altar with the burnt offering. This was an ordination offering for a pleasing aroma, a fire offering to the Lord. 29 He also took the breast and presented it before the Lord as a presentation offering; it was Moses’s portion of the ordination ram as the Lord had commanded him.

30 Then Moses took some of the anointing oil and some of the blood that was on the altar and sprinkled them on Aaron and his garments, as well as on his sons and their garments. In this way he consecrated Aaron and his garments, as well as his sons and their garments.(AC)

31 Moses said to Aaron and his sons, “Boil the meat at the entrance to the tent of meeting and eat it there with the bread that is in the basket for the ordination offering as I commanded:[g] Aaron and his sons are to eat it.(AD) 32 Burn up what remains of the meat and bread.(AE) 33 Do not go outside the entrance to the tent of meeting for seven days, until the time your days of ordination are completed, because it will take seven days to ordain you.[h] 34 The Lord commanded what has been done today in order to make atonement for you.(AF) 35 You must remain at the entrance to the tent of meeting day and night for seven days and keep the Lord’s charge(AG) so that you will not die,(AH) for this is what I was commanded.” 36 So Aaron and his sons did everything the Lord had commanded through Moses.

The Priestly Ministry Inaugurated

On the eighth day Moses summoned Aaron, his sons, and the elders of Israel.(AI) He said to Aaron, “Take a young bull for a sin[i] offering and a ram for a burnt offering, both without blemish,(AJ) and present them before the Lord. And tell the Israelites:[j] Take a male goat for a sin offering; a calf and a lamb, male yearlings without blemish, for a burnt offering; an ox and a ram for a fellowship offering to sacrifice before the Lord; and a grain offering mixed with oil. For today the Lord is going to appear(AK) to you.”

They brought what Moses had commanded to the front of the tent of meeting, and the whole community came forward and stood before the Lord. Moses said, “This is what the Lord commanded you to do, that the glory of the Lord(AL) may appear to you.”

Mark 3:31-4:25

True Relationships

31 His(A) mother(B) and his brothers(C) came, and standing outside, they sent word to him and called him. 32 A crowd was sitting around him and told him, “Look, your mother, your brothers,(D) and your sisters[a] are outside asking for you.”

33 He replied to them, “Who are my mother and my brothers?” 34 Looking at those sitting in a circle around him, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers!(E) 35 Whoever does the will of God(F) is my brother and sister and mother.”

The Parable of the Sower

Again(G) he began to teach(H) by the sea, and a very large crowd gathered around him. So he got into a boat on the sea and sat down, while the whole crowd was by the sea on the shore. He taught them many things in parables,(I) and in his teaching(J) he said to them: “Listen! Consider the sower who went out to sow.(K) As he sowed, some seed fell along the path,(L) and the birds came and devoured(M) it. Other seed fell on rocky ground where it didn’t have much soil, and it grew up quickly,(N) since the soil wasn’t deep. When the sun came up, it was scorched, and since it had no root, it withered away.(O) Other seed fell among thorns, and the thorns came up and choked it, and it didn’t produce fruit. Still other seed fell on good ground and it grew up, producing fruit that increased(P) thirty, sixty, and a hundred times.”(Q) Then he said, “Let anyone who has ears to hear listen.”(R)

Why Jesus Used Parables

10 When he was alone, those around him with the Twelve,(S) asked him about the parables.(T) 11 He answered them, “The secret(U) of the kingdom of God(V) has been given to you, but to those outside,(W) everything comes in parables 12 so that

they may indeed look,
and yet not perceive;
they may indeed listen,
and yet not understand;(X)
otherwise, they might turn back
and be forgiven.”[b][c] (Y)

The Parable of the Sower Explained

13 Then(Z) he said to them: “Don’t you understand this parable?(AA) How then will you understand all of the parables? 14 The sower sows(AB) the word.(AC) 15 Some are like the word sown on the path.(AD) When they hear, immediately Satan(AE) comes and takes away the word(AF) sown in them.[d] 16 And others are like seed sown on rocky ground. When they hear the word, immediately they receive it with joy.(AG) 17 But they have no root; they are short-lived. When distress(AH) or persecution comes because of the word, they immediately fall away.(AI) 18 Others are like seed sown among thorns; these are the ones who hear the word, 19 but the worries(AJ) of this age,(AK) the deceitfulness[e](AL) of wealth,(AM) and the desires(AN) for other things enter in and choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.(AO) 20 And those like seed sown on good ground hear the word,(AP) welcome it, and produce fruit(AQ) thirty, sixty, and a hundred times what was sown.”

Using Your Light

21 He(AR) also said to them, “Is a lamp brought in to be put under a basket or under a bed?(AS) Isn’t it to be put on a lampstand?(AT) 22 For there is nothing hidden that will not be revealed,(AU) and nothing concealed that will not be brought to light. 23 If anyone has ears to hear, let him listen.”(AV) 24 And he said to them, “Pay attention to what you hear. By the measure(AW) you use,(AX) it will be measured to you—and more will be added(AY) to you. 25 For whoever has, more will be given to him, and whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.”(AZ)
