The Daily Audio Bible Reading for Friday February 18, 2022 (NIV)

Leviticus 6:1-7:27

6 ^[a]The Lord said to Moses: ²“If anyone sins and is unfaithful to the Lord^(A) by deceiving a neighbor^(B) about something entrusted to them or left in their care^(C) or about something stolen, or if they cheat^(D) their neighbor, ³or if they find lost property and lie about it,^(E) or if they swear falsely^(F) about any such sin that people may commit— ⁴when they sin in any of these ways and realize their guilt, they must return^(G) what they have stolen or taken by extortion, or what was entrusted to them, or the lost property they found, ⁵or whatever it was they swore falsely about. They must make restitution^(H) in full, add a fifth of the value to it and give it all to the owner on the day they present their guilt offering.^(I) ⁶And as a penalty they must bring to the priest, that is, to the Lord, their guilt offering,^(J) a ram from the flock, one without defect and of the proper value.^(K) ⁷In this way the priest will make atonement^(L) for them before the Lord, and they will be forgiven for any of the things they did that made them guilty.”

The Burnt Offering

⁸The Lord said to Moses: ⁹“Give Aaron and his sons this command: ‘These are the regulations for the burnt offering^(M): The burnt offering is to remain on the altar hearth throughout the night, till morning, and the fire must be kept burning on the altar.^(N) ¹⁰The priest shall then put on his linen clothes,^(O) with linen undergarments next to his body,^(P) and shall remove the ashes^(Q) of the burnt offering that the fire has consumed on the altar and place them beside the altar. ¹¹Then he is to take off these clothes and put on others, and carry the ashes outside the camp to a place that is ceremonially clean.^(R) ¹²The fire on the altar must be kept burning; it must not go out. Every morning the priest is to add firewood^(S) and arrange the burnt offering on the fire and burn the fat^(T) of the fellowship offerings^(U) on it. ¹³The fire must be kept burning on the altar continuously; it must not go out.

The Grain Offering

¹⁴“‘These are the regulations for the grain offering:^(V) Aaron’s sons are to bring it before the Lord, in front of the altar. ¹⁵The priest is to take a handful of the finest flour and some olive oil, together with all the incense^(W) on the grain offering,^(X) and burn the memorial^[b] portion^(Y) on the altar as an aroma pleasing to the Lord. ¹⁶Aaron and his sons^(Z) shall eat the rest^(AA) of it, but it is to be eaten without yeast^(AB) in the sanctuary area;^(AC) they are to eat it in the courtyard^(AD) of the tent of meeting.^(AE) ¹⁷It must not be baked with yeast; I have given it as their share^(AF) of the food offerings presented to me.^(AG) Like the sin offering^[c] and the guilt offering, it is most holy.^(AH) ¹⁸Any male descendant of Aaron may eat it.^(AI) For all generations to come^(AJ) it is his perpetual share^(AK) of the food offerings presented to the Lord. Whatever touches them will become holy.^[d]^(AL)’”

¹⁹The Lord also said to Moses, ²⁰“This is the offering Aaron and his sons are to bring to the Lord on the day he^[e] is anointed:^(AM) a tenth of an ephah^[f]^(AN) of the finest flour^(AO) as a regular grain offering,^(AP) half of it in the morning and half in the evening. ²¹It must be prepared with oil on a griddle;^(AQ) bring it well-mixed and present the grain offering broken^[g] in pieces as an aroma pleasing to the Lord. ²²The son who is to succeed him as anointed priest^(AR) shall prepare it. It is the Lord’s perpetual share and is to be burned completely.^(AS) ²³Every grain offering of a priest shall be burned completely; it must not be eaten.”

The Sin Offering

²⁴The Lord said to Moses, ²⁵“Say to Aaron and his sons: ‘These are the regulations for the sin offering:^(AT) The sin offering is to be slaughtered before the Lord^(AU) in the place^(AV) the burnt offering is slaughtered; it is most holy. ²⁶The priest who offers it shall eat it; it is to be eaten in the sanctuary area,^(AW) in the courtyard^(AX) of the tent of meeting.^(AY) ²⁷Whatever touches any of the flesh will become holy,^(AZ) and if any of the blood is spattered on a garment, you must wash it in the sanctuary area. ²⁸The clay pot^(BA) the meat is cooked in must be broken; but if it is cooked in a bronze pot, the pot is to be scoured and rinsed with water. ²⁹Any male in a priest’s family may eat it;^(BB) it is most holy.^(BC) ³⁰But any sin offering whose blood is brought into the tent of meeting to make atonement^(BD) in the Holy Place^(BE) must not be eaten; it must be burned up.^(BF)

The Guilt Offering

7 “‘These are the regulations for the guilt offering,^(BG) which is most holy: ²The guilt offering is to be slaughtered in the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered, and its blood is to be splashed against the sides of the altar. ³All its fat^(BH) shall be offered: the fat tail and the fat that covers the internal organs, ⁴both kidneys with the fat on them near the loins, and the long lobe of the liver, which is to be removed with the kidneys.^(BI) ⁵The priest shall burn them on the altar^(BJ) as a food offering presented to the Lord. It is a guilt offering. ⁶Any male in a priest’s family may eat it,^(BK) but it must be eaten in the sanctuary area; it is most holy.^(BL)

⁷“‘The same law applies to both the sin offering^[h]^(BM) and the guilt offering:^(BN) They belong to the priest^(BO) who makes atonement with them.^(BP) ⁸The priest who offers a burnt offering for anyone may keep its hide^(BQ) for himself. ⁹Every grain offering baked in an oven^(BR) or cooked in a pan^(BS) or on a griddle^(BT) belongs to the priest who offers it, ¹⁰and every grain offering, whether mixed with olive oil or dry, belongs equally to all the sons of Aaron.

The Fellowship Offering

¹¹“‘These are the regulations for the fellowship offering anyone may present to the Lord:

¹²“‘If they offer it as an expression of thankfulness, then along with this thank offering^(BU) they are to offer thick loaves^(BV) made without yeast^(BW) and with olive oil mixed in, thin loaves^(BX) made without yeast and brushed with oil,^(BY) and thick loaves of the finest flour well-kneaded and with oil mixed in. ¹³Along with their fellowship offering of thanksgiving^(BZ) they are to present an offering with thick loaves of bread made with yeast.^(CA) ¹⁴They are to bring one of each kind as an offering, a contribution to the Lord; it belongs to the priest who splashes the blood of the fellowship offering against the altar. ¹⁵The meat of their fellowship offering of thanksgiving must be eaten on the day it is offered; they must leave none of it till morning.^(CB)

¹⁶“‘If, however, their offering is the result of a vow^(CC) or is a freewill offering,^(CD) the sacrifice shall be eaten on the day they offer it, but anything left over may be eaten on the next day.^(CE) ¹⁷Any meat of the sacrifice left over till the third day must be burned up.^(CF) ¹⁸If any meat of the fellowship offering^(CG) is eaten on the third day, the one who offered it will not be accepted.^(CH) It will not be reckoned^(CI) to their credit, for it has become impure; the person who eats any of it will be held responsible.^(CJ)

¹⁹“‘Meat that touches anything ceremonially unclean must not be eaten; it must be burned up. As for other meat, anyone ceremonially clean may eat it. ²⁰But if anyone who is unclean^(CK) eats any meat of the fellowship offering belonging to the Lord, they must be cut off from their people.^(CL) ²¹Anyone who touches something unclean^(CM)—whether human uncleanness or an unclean animal or any unclean creature that moves along the ground^[i]—and then eats any of the meat of the fellowship offering belonging to the Lord must be cut off from their people.’”

Eating Fat and Blood Forbidden

²²The Lord said to Moses, ²³“Say to the Israelites: ‘Do not eat any of the fat of cattle, sheep or goats.^(CN) ²⁴The fat of an animal found dead or torn by wild animals^(CO) may be used for any other purpose, but you must not eat it. ²⁵Anyone who eats the fat of an animal from which a food offering may be^[j] presented to the Lord must be cut off from their people. ²⁶And wherever you live, you must not eat the blood^(CP) of any bird or animal. ²⁷Anyone who eats blood^(CQ) must be cut off from their people.’”

Mark 3:7-30

Crowds Follow Jesus^(A)

⁷Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the lake, and a large crowd from Galilee followed.^(B) ⁸When they heard about all he was doing, many people came to him from Judea, Jerusalem, Idumea, and the regions across the Jordan and around Tyre and Sidon.^(C) ⁹Because of the crowd he told his disciples to have a small boat ready for him, to keep the people from crowding him. ¹⁰For he had healed many,^(D) so that those with diseases were pushing forward to touch him.^(E) ¹¹Whenever the impure spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, “You are the Son of God.”^(F) ¹²But he gave them strict orders not to tell others about him.^(G)

Jesus Appoints the Twelve^(H)

¹³Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him.^(I) ¹⁴He appointed twelve^[a]^(J) that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach ¹⁵and to have authority to drive out demons.^(K) ¹⁶These are the twelve he appointed: Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter),^(L) ¹⁷James son of Zebedee and his brother John (to them he gave the name Boanerges, which means “sons of thunder”), ¹⁸Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot ¹⁹and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.

Jesus Accused by His Family and by Teachers of the Law^(M)^(N)

²⁰Then Jesus entered a house, and again a crowd gathered,^(O) so that he and his disciples were not even able to eat.^(P) ²¹When his family^[b] heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, “He is out of his mind.”^(Q)

²²And the teachers of the law who came down from Jerusalem^(R) said, “He is possessed by Beelzebul!^(S) By the prince of demons he is driving out demons.”^(T)

²³So Jesus called them over to him and began to speak to them in parables:^(U) “How can Satan^(V) drive out Satan? ²⁴If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. ²⁵If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. ²⁶And if Satan opposes himself and is divided, he cannot stand; his end has come. ²⁷In fact, no one can enter a strong man’s house without first tying him up. Leviticus 4:1-5:19, Mark 2:13-3:6, Psalm 36:1-12, Proverbs 10:1-2

Today is the 17th day of February, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian and it is awesome to be here with you today as we continue this journey of a lifetime, across a year through the Bible, deeper into one another’s lives, growing roots, together through our experience in the Bible. And so, let’s take that next step forward. We’re reading from the New International Version this week. Today, Leviticus chapters 4 and 5.

Commentary:

Okay so, in the book of Leviticus we are learning about the different sacrifices for different things and one of the primary things is the sin offering. And we can watch these instructions, they are very detailed on how to do what needs to be done and we can look at it as antiquated or barbaric or old or bloody, or any of the things and we could go like, is God just power-hungry here, like He just wants all these animals to be slaughtered and burned and sacrificed to Him because He likes that stuff. Let’s pause, take a step back so, that we can see what He wants. If there is no sin, there is no need for sacrifice. What God wants is no sin because sin separates us from God. The sin offering is for the one who has sinned and anyone going through this process because it’s tedious and it would take a bunch of time and you would actually have to go out to your flock and choose the smallest one. So, in every way, this act, tedious though it may be, time-consuming though it may be, is a continual reminder of what sin does. Because in this brand-new culture being formed in the wilderness, God wants them to be holy because He is holy. So, there is no way to depend on the fact that they could become sinless in their own strength. There was going to be sin. Sin continues to exist in this world today, but that is indeed what makes the good news of the gospel so important to us, with Christ being the final sacrifice in the sacrificial system, through Christ, we can become sinless because He covers us. Sin is no longer held against us. We can confess it, we do not have to sacrifice for it, but as we watch these things unfold in Leviticus and throughout the rest of the story, especially here in the law where we’re watching all of the things that are gonna shape them, we should begin to see or realize that everything that is being woven into the tapestry of this newly emerging culture, is pointing them to God. Their source of life and warning them against things that will destroy that bond or covenant or break that covenant. The Bible tells us that sin leads us to destruction and to death, that is what God does not want and God paid a price, very dear, to rescue us from it. And as an example, from the Scriptures about how off, how upside down, how backward things can get, we only need to look at what we read today from the gospel of Mark. Jesus is healing on the Sabbath day. That’s against the rules, the rules as they had interpreted the rules. Jesus asked the question, is it lawful, like what’s lawful on the Sabbath, to do good or to do evil, to save a life or to kill? They didn’t answer that question, Jesus heals this man and as it is told in the gospel of Mark, once the man was healed and restored, they went out and began to plot how they might kill Jesus. So, in response to God restoring a person, because he did not interpret the law the way that they had customarily interpreted it and we know that from the gospel of Mark because Jesus said the Sabbath was made for man, not the man for Sabbath, so the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath. They rejected all of this, the signs, the wonders, the explanation, or revelation and plotted how they might kill Jesus. I think we could agree that that’s really twisted, sin can twist you to the degree that you can’t even see what God is doing right in front of your face, sin is not only working against God in your life it’s working against God period. And what is the mission of God, if we could call it that, it is to restore you and sin can’t be a part of that restorative process. So, when we watch these sacrifices being implemented and kind of laid down in writing because we are reading the rules right, the laws and the laws aren’t always riveting narrative stories, they’re laws and rules and how to obey them. But God isn’t thirsty for animal blood. If He’s thirsty, it’s for righteousness, it’s for holiness because this is freedom. So, let’s remember that as we continue our journey.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You, we thank You for all of the Scriptures and all of the stories and all of the way that things have unfolded. But at the center of it all, there is this willingness inside of our hearts to rebel against what we know is right and this is sin and it, it is only going to one place, that is demonstrated over and over in the Scriptures. But what is also demonstrated over and over in the Scriptures is that You will not surrender us, You come for us, You rescue us and then You remind us that separation from You is something we want to have nothing to do with. And so, although we may not have to sacrifice an animal as a reminder all of the time, sin still does what sin does. Thankfully so does the sacrifice of Jesus. And so, may we walk in our freedom as you lead us by the power of Your Holy Spirit into freedom, onto the narrow path that leads to life. We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Hello, Daily Audio Bible family. This is Patrick from Malta, I’m here with my wife Maria. I was tracking when we started listening, it was actually 2007 but we’ve been kind of on and off and have just come back to it at the beginning of this year, the 1st of January. I remember back then, writing to Brian to tell you how I felt you really nurture a community of love, even just by telling people you love them. And I can see how that’s just spread and grown. For anyone back there in 2009, I was writing to you to tell you my thoughts on how the community had grown and what a blessing it was and it’s grown even bigger and stronger. And I just really love the community work that you’re doing. And I love the fact that there’s a genuine community of people that love one another, care for each other, pray for one another. And we listen to those prayers and they’re as much a blessing to hear those as it is to hear the scriptures. And I just want to say, my wife Maria wants to say something. Well, today’s Valentine’s Day, right, 14th of February. And we don’t really celebrate it, do we? But I just want to ask the Lord to fill your heart with his love today afresh. May we, as we continue through the scriptures this year, as we continue in community, just know the love of God. Yes, that’s my prayer. And for all those prayers I hear so many broken people and suffering, there’s a richness in the suffering. Hello family, this is KD out of Atlanta. I’m calling in to give a praise report and an update and to say thank you for everyone who prayed for me. I went to the do doctor the other day and I did acupuncture so; it did help out with the pelvic issues and I’m feeling better. It’s only been a day or so but I’m feeling better. Also, for those who prayed for me back, I think it was around Christmas time or slightly before Christmas, when I prayed for my business to do better. So, it’s slowly picking up. It’s picking up but I just wanted to give everybody that update and to thank them for the prayers on that. And also, just to say that while I was going through all that I had, I’ve just been doing some self-evaluating and I kinda learned a lesson in this and it’s everything that I’m going through. My business is doing very bad, it’s a staffing company, people weren’t working or whatever. So, I was just trying to make it happen, you know, trying to. And what it taught me was that I just got to trust God. God is my source, not my business, not any of that, not the amount of people I have or anything, God is my source. And I have to trust and believe that He will do what He has always done. He has never failed me. He has always provided. He has always made sure that my family had so, I’ve heard in the community prayer a lot of people who are going through things and stuff. Trust and believe that God will see you through. ___ on His word. It is just so…

This is Candance from Oregon and I just have to say that I’m really grateful to the DABer who often tells us, the God who is able to save you and me will be able to save our children. I just love that, that’s really a bit of encouragement to me. My son, is finally, it looks like, this very moment as I speak, getting himself ready, talking to HR where he works so that he can put himself into drug and alcohol treatment. And you know, this will be where he can’t work. It’ll be from 7am to 7pm every day for at least two weeks. So please pray with me. Lord, I pray for Micah. Thank You that he has arrived at this decision and I pray that the hold that alcohol has had on him for over a decade, would now be cast into the pit of hell, along with all of its lies and destruction. And that what Micah will come into life that’s truly life and be done with this. I pray that he will find the natural high of being outside in the sunshine and going on hikes and enjoying friendships and all that life is meant to be, that You have given us Lord. Rather than the lies that alcohol has told him all this time. I pray that he’ll be involved in his community, in his church and most of all Lord, moment-by-moment with You. And I ask this in Jesus’ name.

We need You Father. God, just one breath from You can heal our lungs, Lord. Father, we love You. I pray for healing for everyone listening to this Lord and a special prayer for upper respiratory issues, Lord. There’s nothing like not being able to breath Lord. Blow Your breath on us Father and heal our bodies Lord, like only You can God. Father, ___53rd chapter of life. The greatest thing about it is I’m taking you with me. ³“‘If the anointed priest^(C) sins,^(D) bringing guilt on the people, he must bring to the Lord a young bull^(E) without defect^(F) as a sin offering^[a]^(G) for the sin he has committed.^(H) ⁴He is to present the bull at the entrance to the tent of meeting before the Lord.^(I) He is to lay his hand on its head and slaughter it there before the Lord. ⁵Then the anointed priest shall take some of the bull’s blood^(J) and carry it into the tent of meeting. ⁶He is to dip his finger into the blood and sprinkle^(K) some of it seven times before the Lord,^(L) in front of the curtain of the sanctuary.^(M) ⁷The priest shall then put some of the blood on the horns^(N) of the altar of fragrant incense that is before the Lord in the tent of meeting. The rest of the bull’s blood he shall pour out at the base of the altar^(O) of burnt offering^(P) at the entrance to the tent of meeting. ⁸He shall remove all the fat^(Q) from the bull of the sin offering—all the fat that is connected to the internal organs, ⁹both kidneys with the fat on them near the loins, and the long lobe of the liver, which he will remove with the kidneys^(R)— ¹⁰just as the fat is removed from the ox^[b]^(S) sacrificed as a fellowship offering.^(T) Then the priest shall burn them on the altar of burnt offering.^(U) ¹¹But the hide of the bull and all its flesh, as well as the head and legs, the internal organs and the intestines^(V)— ¹²that is, all the rest of the bull—he must take outside the camp^(W) to a place ceremonially clean,^(X) where the ashes^(Y) are thrown, and burn it^(Z) there in a wood fire on the ash heap.^(AA)

¹³“‘If the whole Israelite community sins unintentionally^(AB) and does what is forbidden in any of the Lord’s commands, even though the community is unaware of the matter, when they realize their guilt ¹⁴and the sin they committed becomes known, the assembly must bring a young bull^(AC) as a sin offering^(AD) and present it before the tent of meeting. ¹⁵The elders^(AE) of the community are to lay their hands^(AF) on the bull’s head^(AG) before the Lord, and the bull shall be slaughtered before the Lord.^(AH) ¹⁶Then the anointed priest is to take some of the bull’s blood^(AI) into the tent of meeting. ¹⁷He shall dip his finger into the blood and sprinkle^(AJ) it before the Lord^(AK) seven times in front of the curtain. ¹⁸He is to put some of the blood^(AL) on the horns of the altar that is before the Lord^(AM) in the tent of meeting. The rest of the blood he shall pour out at the base of the altar^(AN) of burnt offering at the entrance to the tent of meeting. ¹⁹He shall remove all the fat^(AO) from it and burn it on the altar,^(AP) ²⁰and do with this bull just as he did with the bull for the sin offering. This is the sin offering for the community.^(AT)

²²“‘When a leader^(AU) sins unintentionally^(AV) and does what is forbidden in any of the commands of the Lord his God, when he realizes his guilt ²³and the sin he has committed becomes known, he must bring as his offering a male goat^(AW) without defect. ²⁴He is to lay his hand on the goat’s head and slaughter it at the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered before the Lord.^(AX) It is a sin offering.^(AY) ²⁵Then the priest shall take some of the blood of the sin offering with his finger and put it on the horns of the altar^(AZ) of burnt offering and pour out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar.^(BA) ²⁶He shall burn all the fat on the altar as he burned the fat of the fellowship offering. In this way the priest will make atonement^(BB) for the leader’s sin, and he will be forgiven.^(BC)

²⁷“‘If any member of the community sins unintentionally^(BD) and does what is forbidden in any of the Lord’s commands, when they realize their guilt ²⁸and the sin they have committed becomes known, they must bring as their offering^(BE) for the sin they committed a female goat^(BF) without defect. ²⁹They are to lay their hand on the head^(BG) of the sin offering^(BH) and slaughter it at the place of the burnt offering.^(BI) ³⁰Then the priest is to take some of the blood with his finger and put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering^(BJ) and pour out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar. ³¹They shall remove all the fat, just as the fat is removed from the fellowship offering, and the priest shall burn it on the altar^(BK) as an aroma pleasing to the Lord.^(BL) In this way the priest will make atonement^(BM) for them, and they will be forgiven.^(BN)

³²“‘If someone brings a lamb^(BO) as their sin offering, they are to bring a female without defect.^(BP) ³³They are to lay their hand on its head and slaughter it^(BQ) for a sin offering^(BR) at the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered.^(BS) ³⁴Then the priest shall take some of the blood of the sin offering with his finger and put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering and pour out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar.^(BT) ³⁵They shall remove all the fat, just as the fat is removed from the lamb of the fellowship offering, and the priest shall burn it on the altar^(BU) on top of the food offerings presented to the Lord. In this way the priest will make atonement for them for the sin they have committed, and they will be forgiven.

5 “‘If anyone sins because they do not speak up when they hear a public charge to testify^(BV) regarding something they have seen or learned about, they will be held responsible.^(BW)

²“‘If anyone becomes aware that they are guilty—if they unwittingly touch anything ceremonially unclean (whether the carcass of an unclean animal, wild or domestic, or of any unclean creature that moves along the ground)^(BX) and they are unaware that they have become unclean,^(BY) but then they come to realize their guilt; ³or if they touch human uncleanness^(BZ) (anything that would make them unclean)^(CA) even though they are unaware of it, but then they learn of it and realize their guilt; ⁴or if anyone thoughtlessly takes an oath^(CB) to do anything, whether good or evil^(CC) (in any matter one might carelessly swear about) even though they are unaware of it, but then they learn of it and realize their guilt— ⁵when anyone becomes aware that they are guilty in any of these matters, they must confess^(CD) in what way they have sinned. ⁶As a penalty for the sin they have committed, they must bring to the Lord a female lamb or goat^(CE) from the flock as a sin offering^[c];^(CF) and the priest shall make atonement^(CG) for them for their sin.

⁷“‘Anyone who cannot afford^(CH) a lamb^(CI) is to bring two doves or two young pigeons^(CJ) to the Lord as a penalty for their sin—one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering. ⁸They are to bring them to the priest, who shall first offer the one for the sin offering. He is to wring its head from its neck,^(CK) not dividing it completely,^(CL) ⁹and is to splash^(CM) some of the blood of the sin offering against the side of the altar;^(CN) the rest of the blood must be drained out at the base of the altar.^(CO) It is a sin offering. ¹⁰The priest shall then offer the other as a burnt offering in the prescribed way^(CP) and make atonement^(CQ) for them for the sin they have committed, and they will be forgiven.^(CR)

¹¹“‘If, however, they cannot afford^(CS) two doves or two young pigeons,^(CT) they are to bring as an offering for their sin a tenth of an ephah^[d]^(CU) of the finest flour^(CV) for a sin offering. They must not put olive oil or incense on it, because it is a sin offering. ¹²They are to bring it to the priest, who shall take a handful of it as a memorial^[e] portion^(CW) and burn it on the altar^(CX) on top of the food offerings presented to the Lord. It is a sin offering. ¹³In this way the priest will make atonement^(CY) for them for any of these sins they have committed, and they will be forgiven. The rest of the offering will belong to the priest,^(CZ) as in the case of the grain offering.^(DA)’”

The Guilt Offering

¹⁴The Lord said to Moses: ¹⁵“When anyone is unfaithful to the Lord by sinning unintentionally^(DB) in regard to any of the Lord’s holy things, they are to bring to the Lord as a penalty^(DC) a ram^(DD) from the flock, one without defect and of the proper value in silver, according to the sanctuary shekel.^[f]^(DE) It is a guilt offering.^(DF) ¹⁶They must make restitution^(DG) for what they have failed to do in regard to the holy things, pay an additional penalty of a fifth of its value^(DH) and give it all to the priest. The priest will make atonement for them with the ram as a guilt offering, and they will be forgiven.

¹⁷“If anyone sins and does what is forbidden in any of the Lord’s commands, even though they do not know it,^(DI) they are guilty and will be held responsible.^(DJ) ¹⁸They are to bring to the priest as a guilt offering^(DK) a ram from the flock, one without defect and of the proper value. In this way the priest will make atonement for them for the wrong they have committed unintentionally, and they will be forgiven.^(DL) ¹⁹It is a guilt offering; they have been guilty of^[g] wrongdoing against the Lord.”^(DM)

Jesus Calls Levi and Eats With Sinners^(A)

¹³Once again Jesus went out beside the lake. A large crowd came to him,^(B) and he began to teach them. ¹⁴As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,”^(C) Jesus told him, and Levi got up and followed him.

¹⁵While Jesus was having dinner at Levi’s house, many tax collectors and sinners were eating with him and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. ¹⁶When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees^(D) saw him eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”^(E)

Jesus Questioned About Fasting^(G)

¹⁸Now John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting.^(H) Some people came and asked Jesus, “How is it that John’s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees are fasting, but yours are not?”

¹⁹Jesus answered, “How can the guests of the bridegroom fast while he is with them? They cannot, so long as they have him with them. ²⁰But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them,^(I) and on that day they will fast.

²¹“No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. Otherwise, the new piece will pull away from the old, making the tear worse. ²²And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath^(J)^(K)

²³One Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields, and as his disciples walked along, they began to pick some heads of grain.^(L) ²⁴The Pharisees said to him, “Look, why are they doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?”^(M)

Leviticus 1:1-3:17, Mark 1:29-2:12, Psalms 35:17-28, Proverbs 9:13-18

Today is the 16^th day of February, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I’m Brian it’s great to be here with you today around the Global Campfire as we gather each day taking the next step forward in the Scriptures. And we concluded the book of Exodus yesterday and began the book of Mark yesterday, which brings us to the opening of another book. So, we’re moving right along. This is the third book in the Old Testament or the Hebrew Scriptures. It is the third book in the grouping of five books known as the Pentateuch or the Torah. And we are following the story of the children of Israel and we’ve…we’ve looked at who they are and so we probably have that down by now. And we’ve spent a lot of time around Mount Sinai, the mountain of God where God has been speaking to Moses establishing the terms and the rituals and holidays and obligations that will form a culture, transforming these former slaves into God’s chosen people. And one of the things about these people is that they are to be a holy people. So, it’s been about a year since they’ve left Egypt. The law has been being given and we’ll start to see this theme of holiness emerging in all of the ways that God is aiming the hearts of His people because all of these laws and regulations and statutes, they’re aimed at shaping and governing this people. And they need this. They don’t know how to be anything but slaves. And, so, this is forming and establishing them and giving them an understanding of what it means to be in covenant with God. It’s like God saying, “I want to be known. I want to be known by you. I want to know you. If we’re gonna be in communion together, if we’re gonna fellowship with one another it will be through holiness.” And God even says, “I am holy therefore, you will be holy.”

Introduction to the book of Leviticus:

So, one of the things that we’ll notice as we get to Leviticus…and Leviticus…right…like I haven’t met too many people that say “that’s my favorite book of the Bible.” In fact, here we are now at this…this point where those of us who continue forward into this new month are very likely to take this journey. But this journey for people who are attempting to read the Bible through sometimes ends at Leviticus because it starts…it starts to get…well…it starts to get bloody. There’s a lot of sacrifice in this book. And we have to remember what we’re reading is thousands of years, millennia ago, in a truly different kind of world. The way that people understand their status in the world was very, very different from the one that we now live in. So, if we’re kinda back reading our culture into the Bible that came before right now then…then it’s gonna be irrelevant to us. If we put ourselves in the camp with the children of Israel understanding that we just came out of slavery and we don’t know anything else and begin to read what God is establishing, a covenant of holiness, an offer of intimacy through holiness then we begin to understand that God is showing the children of Israel that their sin costs something valuable, dear, important. And to cover their sin comes at great cost. And ultimately that great cost to something that we…we just finished reading about as we closed the Matthew with the sacrifice of Jesus. And, So, let’s remember that we’re turning the page, but we’re basically where we left off. The children of Israel. That’s the story that’s being told here, the story of the children of Israel. And so, let’s dive in. We’re reading from the New International Version this week. Leviticus chapters 1 through 3.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word and we thank You for this new territory that we have come into Your word in the book of Leviticus as we’ve just begun today and the gospel of Mark which we began yesterday. And Father as we go through this portion of the Old Testament may we realize that holy is something we are to be. Because You are holy, we are to be holy. As we see the children of Israel being pointed in this direction with everything they do, including sacrifices, things that were costly to show that sin is costly and leads to death. These themes are themes that we are familiar with, but they are also throughout the entire Bible. And, so, may we immerse ourselves more deeply in what that looks like for each one of us. You are setting us apart and making us holy. This is known as sanctification. May we participate. May we collaborate by surrendering our hearts fully to You and trusting You and You alone. We pray this in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Hello DAB family today is February 13^th and I just got through listening to the February 12^th podcast about Moses’s continued faithfulness and interceding for God’s people, about Jesus’ passion having died for all of us. And Karen from Saint Louis came on asking for prayer for her friend Steve the atheist who’s in his final few months of life. Karen, I just lift up your friend Steve. I just pray that he is overwhelmed by a supernatural understanding of who our God is, how faithful He is. Not that He needs us as many atheists would think that He does, but that He wants us and longs for us and loves us. So, I pray that Steve would come to the end of himself even in this time and see that. And Karen your story touches me so deeply because of my own brother Danny who is such a hardhearted hardheaded atheist. I’m here in Ontario for having buried our father and still my brother refuses to believe that there is an afterlife. So, family I just pray for all the atheists in our lives, that they would know us by our love, that they would know Jesus by His unimaginable love for us.

Hi family, this is Dan calling from Adelaide South Australia. First time caller but longtime listener. Yeah, just wanted to call to ask for us to pray for my friend Zach who is a…a youth worker. We both are from the same community that works for an organization who does outreach…outreach for youth. And Zach was in an accident about three weeks ago while he was rock climbing, and he is in a really bad way. And, so, I would just ask that everyone could pray for him. He’s in a coma. He’s got a lot of broken bones and is not able to breathe by himself at the moment. And, so, we are all praying as a community that he would be able to start breathing by himself again and begin to regain consciousness. His…his bones are healing but, yeah, he really needs to begin to breathe on his own. So, I really appreciate it if you would all join with me and pray for Zach. Thanks everyone.

The Burnt Offering

¹⁰“‘If the offering is a burnt offering from the flock, from either the sheep^(AC) or the goats,^(AD) you are to offer a male without defect. ¹¹You are to slaughter it at the north side of the altar^(AE) before the Lord, and Aaron’s sons the priests shall splash its blood against the sides of the altar.^(AF) ¹²You are to cut it into pieces, and the priest shall arrange them, including the head and the fat,^(AG) on the wood that is burning on the altar. ¹³You are to wash the internal organs and the legs with water,^(AH) and the priest is to bring all of them and burn them^(AI) on the altar.^(AJ) It is a burnt offering,^(AK) a food offering, an aroma pleasing to the Lord.

¹⁴“‘If the offering to the Lord is a burnt offering of birds, you are to offer a dove or a young pigeon.^(AL) ¹⁵The priest shall bring it to the altar, wring off the head^(AM) and burn it on the altar; its blood shall be drained out on the side of the altar.^(AN) ¹⁶He is to remove the crop and the feathers^[a] and throw them down east of the altar where the ashes^(AO) are. ¹⁷He shall tear it open by the wings, not dividing it completely,^(AP) and then the priest shall burn it on the wood^(AQ) that is burning on the altar. It is a burnt offering, a food offering, an aroma pleasing to the Lord.

The Grain Offering

2 “‘When anyone brings a grain offering^(AR) to the Lord, their offering is to be of the finest flour.^(AS) They are to pour olive oil^(AT) on it,^(AU) put incense on it^(AV) ²and take it to Aaron’s sons the priests. The priest shall take a handful of the flour^(AW) and oil, together with all the incense,^(AX) and burn this as a memorial^[b] portion^(AY) on the altar, a food offering,^(AZ) an aroma pleasing to the Lord.^(BA) ³The rest of the grain offering belongs to Aaron and his sons;^(BB) it is a most holy^(BC) part of the food offerings presented to the Lord.

⁴“‘If you bring a grain offering baked in an oven,^(BD) it is to consist of the finest flour: either thick loaves made without yeast and with olive oil mixed in or thin loaves^(BE) made without yeast and brushed with olive oil.^(BF) ⁵If your grain offering is prepared on a griddle,^(BG) it is to be made of the finest flour mixed with oil, and without yeast. ⁶Crumble it and pour oil on it; it is a grain offering. ⁷If your grain offering is cooked in a pan,^(BH) it is to be made of the finest flour and some olive oil. ⁸Bring the grain offering made of these things to the Lord; present it to the priest, who shall take it to the altar. ⁹He shall take out the memorial portion^(BI) from the grain offering and burn it on the altar as a food offering, an aroma pleasing to the Lord.^(BJ) ¹⁰The rest of the grain offering belongs to Aaron and his sons;^(BK) it is a most holy part of the food offerings presented to the Lord.^(BL)

¹¹“‘Every grain offering you bring to the Lord must be made without yeast,^(BM) for you are not to burn any yeast or honey in a food offering presented to the Lord. ¹²You may bring them to the Lord as an offering of the firstfruits,^(BN) but they are not to be offered on the altar as a pleasing aroma. ¹³Season all your grain offerings with salt.^(BO) Do not leave the salt of the covenant^(BP) of your God out of your grain offerings; add salt to all your offerings.

¹⁴“‘If you bring a grain offering of firstfruits^(BQ) to the Lord, offer crushed heads of new grain roasted in the fire. ¹⁵Put oil and incense^(BR) on it; it is a grain offering. ¹⁶The priest shall burn the memorial portion^(BS) of the crushed grain and the oil, together with all the incense,^(BT) as a food offering presented to the Lord.^(BU)

The Fellowship Offering

3 “‘If your offering is a fellowship offering,^(BV) and you offer an animal from the herd, whether male or female, you are to present before the Lord an animal without defect.^(BW) ²You are to lay your hand on the head^(BX) of your offering and slaughter it^(BY) at the entrance to the tent of meeting.^(BZ) Then Aaron’s sons the priests shall splash^(CA) the blood against the sides^(CB) of the altar.^(CC) ³From the fellowship offering you are to bring a food offering to the Lord: the internal organs^(CD) and all the fat^(CE) that is connected to them, ⁴both kidneys^(CF) with the fat on them near the loins, and the long lobe of the liver, which you will remove with the kidneys. ⁵Then Aaron’s sons^(CG) are to burn it on the altar^(CH) on top of the burnt offering^(CI) that is lying on the burning wood;^(CJ) it is a food offering, an aroma pleasing to the Lord.^(CK)

⁶“‘If you offer an animal from the flock as a fellowship offering^(CL) to the Lord, you are to offer a male or female without defect. ⁷If you offer a lamb,^(CM) you are to present it before the Lord,^(CN) ⁸lay your hand on its head and slaughter it^(CO) in front of the tent of meeting. Then Aaron’s sons shall splash its blood against the sides of the altar. ⁹From the fellowship offering you are to bring a food offering^(CP) to the Lord: its fat, the entire fat tail cut off close to the backbone, the internal organs and all the fat that is connected to them, ¹⁰both kidneys with the fat on them near the loins, and the long lobe of the liver, which you will remove with the kidneys. ¹¹The priest shall burn them on the altar^(CQ) as a food offering^(CR) presented to the Lord.^(CS)

¹²“‘If your offering is a goat,^(CT) you are to present it before the Lord, ¹³lay your hand on its head and slaughter it in front of the tent of meeting. Then Aaron’s sons shall splash^(CU) its blood against the sides of the altar.^(CV) ¹⁴From what you offer you are to present this food offering to the Lord: the internal organs and all the fat that is connected to them, ¹⁵both kidneys with the fat on them near the loins, and the long lobe of the liver, which you will remove with the kidneys.^(CW) ¹⁶The priest shall burn them on the altar^(CX) as a food offering,^(CY) a pleasing aroma.^(CZ) All the fat^(DA) is the Lord’s.^(DB)

¹⁷“‘This is a lasting ordinance^(DC) for the generations to come,^(DD) wherever you live:^(DE) You must not eat any fat or any blood.^(DF)’”

Mark 1:29-2:12

Jesus Heals Many^(A)^(B)

²⁹As soon as they left the synagogue,^(C) they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew. ³⁰Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they immediately told Jesus about her. ³¹So he went to her, took her hand and helped her up.^(D) The fever left her and she began to wait on them.

³²That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed.^(E) ³³The whole town gathered at the door, ³⁴and Jesus healed many who had various diseases.^(F) He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was.^(G)

Jesus Prays in a Solitary Place^(H)

³⁵Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.^(I) ³⁶Simon and his companions went to look for him, ³⁷and when they found him, they exclaimed: “Everyone is looking for you!”

³⁸Jesus replied, “Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.”^(J) ³⁹So he traveled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues^(K) and driving out demons.^(L)

Jesus Heals a Man With Leprosy^(M)

⁴⁰A man with leprosy^[a] came to him and begged him on his knees,^(N) “If you are willing, you can make me clean.”

⁴¹Jesus was indignant.^[b] He reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” ⁴²Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cleansed.

⁴³Jesus sent him away at once with a strong warning: ⁴⁴“See that you don’t tell this to anyone.^(O) But go, show yourself to the priest^(P) and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing,^(Q) as a testimony to them.” ⁴⁵Instead he went out and began to talk freely, spreading the news. As a result, Jesus could no longer enter a town openly but stayed outside in lonely places.^(R) Yet the people still came to him from everywhere.^(S)

Jesus Forgives and Heals a Paralyzed Man^(T)

2 A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home. ²They gathered in such large numbers^(U) that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. ³Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man,^(V) carried by four of them. ⁴Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on. ⁵When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”^(W)

⁶Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, ⁷“Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?”^(X)

⁸Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, “Why are you thinking these things? ⁹Which is easier: to say to this paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, take your mat and walk’? ¹⁰But I want you to know that the Son of Man^(Y) has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the man, ¹¹“I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” ¹²He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God,^(Z) saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”^(AA)

Exodus 39:1-40:38, Mark 1:1-28, Psalm 35:1-16, Proverbs 9:11-12

Today is the 15th day of February, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian, it is wonderful to be here with you today, as we come in out of whatever is going on and let it go and come around the Global Campfire together and take the next step forward together and that next step will have us continuing our journey through the book of Exodus. And we will actually conclude the book of Exodus today in the Old Testament and then when we get to the New Testament, we will be moving into some new territory: the gospel of Mark. And we’ll talk about that when we get there. But first, Exodus, chapters 39 and 40.

Introduction to the Book of Mark:

Okay so, as we talked about a couple minutes ago were moving into new territory: the gospel of Mark. And the gospel of Mark is part of the grouping of books known as the synoptic Gospels, Matthew, Mark and Luke and that is because they share so many of the same stories and events. And this has been studied and looked at and examined going back centuries and centuries and centuries because it seems like there is an original, like the source from which these came because the synoptic Gospels were written by different people at different times and yet, many of the phrases in these books are word for word comparisons. Whereas some of the stories have additional details, some of them less. It is widely believed by biblical scholars that the gospel of Mark is the first gospel written down, attesting to the ministry and life of Jesus Christ, and that it is the source for the similar stories in Matthew and Luke, which were written after Mark. And we should know that Mark wasn’t a disciple of Jesus during his earthly ministry, he wasn’t part of the 12 disciples, and he wasn’t an apostle. Ultimately, it’s believed that he was a long-term disciple of the apostle Peter and accompanied him but we see Mark or as he’s known, John Mark in the book of Acts and we’re given some details about him from the book of Acts, like he became from a pretty wealthy family, which means he at least probably had some education, his mother’s name was Mary. She had a large house. She welcomed the believers into her home. She had a servant named Rhoda, these things we glean from the book of Acts, we also have church tradition that that suggests that her home may have been the the place of the upper room where the Holy Spirit was poured out on the early believers. And if that’s true then it’s probably also the place of the Last Supper, which is territory we’ve just very recently moved through but the bottom line is that Mark or John Mark grew up around the faith, even when he was a boy. It’s a fascinating story in the book of Acts, that we’ll read when we get there, about the time that the apostle Peter was captured by Herod and Herod had killed some Christians and Jewish people were in favor of that and so he was planning to execute Peter as well. And so, Peter is waiting in jail for whatever his destiny will be but an angel comes and opens the jail and Peter is able to escape and he doesn’t even know if he’s dreaming or if this is really happening, but it was to John Mark’s home, to the home of Mary, Mark’s mother, that Peter first went when he was sprung out of jail. And there were a roomful of believers we’re told, they were praying earnestly for Peter for his rescue, for God’s providence and that was answered, and an angel came and got Peter out and so Peter comes to John Mark’s house and the servant Rhoda answers the door and then she sees Peter standing there and then she slams the door in his face because I guess because you can’t believe it’s Peter and she lets the people know inside and they come out and sure enough, it’s Peter and he gives them words and they sent them off into hiding. And so, that kind of gives us a little bit of a sense of who Mark is, as for what is in the gospel of Mark, well we remember Mark has been around the gospel pretty much his whole life. He has a cousin named Barnabas. Barnabas was a dear friend of the apostle Paul and so, Mark and Barnabas and Paul went on Paul’s first missionary journey but tradition tells us that he eventually became a disciple of the apostle Peter and began to travel and evangelize with Peter, even being an interpreter at times for Peter and so Peter moves around sharing the gospel of Jesus. Mark is with him and he hears the story over and over, everywhere they go, Peter is telling the story about Jesus and so Mark has heard this many times from Peter’s perspective, which makes some people think that this is really more the gospel according to Peter because Mark eventually was asked or just had the initiative to write these things down and the texture of Mark is well, it’s kind of roughly hewn. I mean, we’re gonna read it in English but it was written in Greek and Greek scholars look at the gospel of Mark and basically say this is…this is the grammar level of like elementary school person, so it’s kind of roughly hewn, especially compared to the gospel of Luke. For example, which is really beautifully written in really beautiful narrative form. Mark basically like there’s no birth story of Jesus, the Angels and the shepherds and all of this. Mark begins with words by John the Baptist and sort of the baptism of Jesus is where we begin in Mark since it’s it’s a way of looking at the story as it was earliest told, as the apostles are moving around and sharing the good news. And so, with that, we begin Mark chapter 1 verses one through 28.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word. And we thank You for bringing us several weeks into this brand-new year, with many weeks in front of us and we look forward to all that You will re-shape inside of us and root in us this year. And so, as we begin this second gospel, move back through this story, we open our hearts to You Jesus our Savior, that we might fall deeply in love with You. Understanding how deeply You have loved us, and even as we have concluded the book of Exodus and are preparing tomorrow to enter into new territory in the book of Leviticus, Holy Spirit come, lead us into all truth, this is our continual prayer, that You might lead us on the pathways of truth and on the narrow path that leads to life, we ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Exodus 39-40

The Priestly Garments

39 From the blue, purple and scarlet yarn^(A) they made woven garments for ministering in the sanctuary.^(B) They also made sacred garments^(C) for Aaron, as the Lord commanded Moses.

The Ephod^(D)

²They^[a] made the ephod of gold, and of blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and of finely twisted linen. ³They hammered out thin sheets of gold and cut strands to be worked into the blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen—the work of skilled hands. ⁴They made shoulder pieces for the ephod, which were attached to two of its corners, so it could be fastened. ⁵Its skillfully woven waistband was like it—of one piece with the ephod and made with gold, and with blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and with finely twisted linen, as the Lord commanded Moses.

⁶They mounted the onyx stones in gold filigree settings and engraved them like a seal with the names of the sons of Israel. ⁷Then they fastened them on the shoulder pieces of the ephod as memorial^(E) stones for the sons of Israel, as the Lord commanded Moses.

The Breastpiece^(F)

⁸They fashioned the breastpiece^(G)—the work of a skilled craftsman. They made it like the ephod: of gold, and of blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and of finely twisted linen. ⁹It was square—a span^[b] long and a span wide—and folded double. ¹⁰Then they mounted four rows of precious stones on it. The first row was carnelian, chrysolite and beryl; ¹¹the second row was turquoise, lapis lazuli and emerald; ¹²the third row was jacinth, agate and amethyst; ¹³the fourth row was topaz, onyx and jasper.^[c] They were mounted in gold filigree settings. ¹⁴There were twelve stones, one for each of the names of the sons of Israel, each engraved like a seal with the name of one of the twelve tribes.^(H)

¹⁵For the breastpiece they made braided chains of pure gold, like a rope. ¹⁶They made two gold filigree settings and two gold rings, and fastened the rings to two of the corners of the breastpiece. ¹⁷They fastened the two gold chains to the rings at the corners of the breastpiece, ¹⁸and the other ends of the chains to the two settings, attaching them to the shoulder pieces of the ephod at the front. ¹⁹They made two gold rings and attached them to the other two corners of the breastpiece on the inside edge next to the ephod. ²⁰Then they made two more gold rings and attached them to the bottom of the shoulder pieces on the front of the ephod, close to the seam just above the waistband of the ephod. ²¹They tied the rings of the breastpiece to the rings of the ephod with blue cord, connecting it to the waistband so that the breastpiece would not swing out from the ephod—as the Lord commanded Moses.

Other Priestly Garments^(I)

²²They made the robe of the ephod entirely of blue cloth—the work of a weaver— ²³with an opening in the center of the robe like the opening of a collar,^[d] and a band around this opening, so that it would not tear. ²⁴They made pomegranates of blue, purple and scarlet yarn and finely twisted linen around the hem of the robe. ²⁵And they made bells of pure gold and attached them around the hem between the pomegranates. ²⁶The bells and pomegranates alternated around the hem of the robe to be worn for ministering, as the Lord commanded Moses.

²⁷For Aaron and his sons, they made tunics of fine linen^(J)—the work of a weaver— ²⁸and the turban^(K) of fine linen, the linen caps and the undergarments of finely twisted linen. ²⁹The sash was made of finely twisted linen and blue, purple and scarlet yarn—the work of an embroiderer—as the Lord commanded Moses.

³⁰They made the plate, the sacred emblem, out of pure gold and engraved on it, like an inscription on a seal: holy to the Lord.^(L) ³¹Then they fastened a blue cord to it to attach it to the turban,^(M) as the Lord commanded Moses.

Moses Inspects the Tabernacle^(N)

³²So all the work on the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, was completed. The Israelites did everything just as the Lord commanded Moses.^(O) ³³Then they brought the tabernacle^(P) to Moses: the tent and all its furnishings, its clasps, frames, crossbars, posts and bases; ³⁴the covering of ram skins dyed red and the covering of another durable leather^[e] and the shielding curtain; ³⁵the ark of the covenant law^(Q) with its poles and the atonement cover; ³⁶the table^(R) with all its articles and the bread of the Presence;^(S) ³⁷the pure gold lampstand^(T) with its row of lamps and all its accessories,^(U) and the olive oil^(V) for the light; ³⁸the gold altar,^(W) the anointing oil,^(X) the fragrant incense,^(Y) and the curtain^(Z) for the entrance to the tent; ³⁹the bronze altar^(AA) with its bronze grating, its poles and all its utensils; the basin^(AB) with its stand; ⁴⁰the curtains of the courtyard with its posts and bases, and the curtain for the entrance to the courtyard;^(AC) the ropes and tent pegs for the courtyard; all the furnishings for the tabernacle, the tent of meeting; ⁴¹and the woven garments^(AD) worn for ministering in the sanctuary, both the sacred garments for Aaron the priest and the garments for his sons when serving as priests.

⁴²The Israelites had done all the work just as the Lord had commanded Moses.^(AE) ⁴³Moses inspected the work and saw that they had done it just as the Lord had commanded.^(AF) So Moses blessed^(AG) them.

Setting Up the Tabernacle

40 Then the Lord said to Moses: ²“Set up^(AH) the tabernacle, the tent of meeting,^(AI) on the first day of the first month.^(AJ) ³Place the ark^(AK) of the covenant law in it and shield the ark with the curtain. ⁴Bring in the table^(AL) and set out what belongs on it.^(AM) Then bring in the lampstand^(AN) and set up its lamps. ⁵Place the gold altar^(AO) of incense in front of the ark of the covenant law and put the curtain at the entrance to the tabernacle.

⁶“Place the altar^(AP) of burnt offering in front of the entrance to the tabernacle, the tent of meeting; ⁷place the basin^(AQ) between the tent of meeting and the altar and put water in it. ⁸Set up the courtyard^(AR) around it and put the curtain at the entrance to the courtyard.

⁹“Take the anointing oil and anoint^(AS) the tabernacle and everything in it; consecrate it and all its furnishings,^(AT) and it will be holy. ¹⁰Then anoint the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils; consecrate^(AU) the altar, and it will be most holy. ¹¹Anoint the basin and its stand and consecrate them.

¹²“Bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance to the tent of meeting^(AV) and wash them with water.^(AW) ¹³Then dress Aaron in the sacred garments,^(AX) anoint him and consecrate^(AY) him so he may serve me as priest. ¹⁴Bring his sons and dress them in tunics.^(AZ) ¹⁵Anoint them just as you anointed their father, so they may serve me as priests. Their anointing will be to a priesthood that will continue throughout their generations.^(BA)” ¹⁶Moses did everything just as the Lord commanded^(BB) him.

¹⁷So the tabernacle^(BC) was set up on the first day of the first month^(BD) in the second year. ¹⁸When Moses^(BE) set up the tabernacle, he put the bases in place, erected the frames,^(BF) inserted the crossbars and set up the posts. ¹⁹Then he spread the tent over the tabernacle and put the covering^(BG) over the tent, as the Lord commanded^(BH) him.

²⁰He took the tablets of the covenant law^(BI) and placed them in the ark,^(BJ) attached the poles to the ark and put the atonement cover^(BK) over it. ²¹Then he brought the ark into the tabernacle and hung the shielding curtain^(BL) and shielded the ark of the covenant law, as the Lord commanded^(BM) him.

²²Moses placed the table^(BN) in the tent of meeting on the north side of the tabernacle outside the curtain ²³and set out the bread^(BO) on it before the Lord, as the Lord commanded^(BP) him.

²⁴He placed the lampstand^(BQ) in the tent of meeting opposite the table on the south side of the tabernacle ²⁵and set up the lamps^(BR) before the Lord, as the Lord commanded^(BS) him.

²⁶Moses placed the gold altar^(BT) in the tent of meeting in front of the curtain ²⁷and burned fragrant incense on it, as the Lord commanded^(BU) him.

²⁸Then he put up the curtain^(BV) at the entrance to the tabernacle. ²⁹He set the altar^(BW) of burnt offering near the entrance to the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, and offered on it burnt offerings and grain offerings,^(BX) as the Lord commanded^(BY) him.

³⁰He placed the basin^(BZ) between the tent of meeting and the altar and put water in it for washing, ³¹and Moses and Aaron and his sons used it to wash^(CA) their hands and feet. ³²They washed whenever they entered the tent of meeting or approached the altar,^(CB) as the Lord commanded^(CC) Moses.

³³Then Moses set up the courtyard^(CD) around the tabernacle and altar and put up the curtain^(CE) at the entrance to the courtyard. And so Moses finished the work.

The Glory of the Lord

³⁴Then the cloud^(CF) covered the tent of meeting, and the glory^(CG) of the Lord filled the tabernacle. ³⁵Moses could not enter the tent of meeting because the cloud had settled on it, and the glory^(CH) of the Lord filled the tabernacle.^(CI)

³⁶In all the travels of the Israelites, whenever the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle, they would set out;^(CJ) ³⁷but if the cloud did not lift, they did not set out—until the day it lifted. ³⁸So the cloud^(CK) of the Lord was over the tabernacle by day, and fire was in the cloud by night, in the sight of all the Israelites during all their travels.

Mark 1:1-28

John the Baptist Prepares the Way^(A)

1 The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah,^[a] the Son of God,^[b]^(B) ²as it is written in Isaiah the prophet:

“I will send my messenger ahead of you,
who will prepare your way”^[c]^(C)—
³“a voice of one calling in the wilderness,
‘Prepare the way for the Lord,
make straight paths for him.’”^[d]^(D)

⁴And so John the Baptist^(E) appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance^(F) for the forgiveness of sins.^(G) ⁵The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River. ⁶John wore clothing made of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist,^(H) and he ate locusts^(I) and wild honey. ⁷And this was his message: “After me comes the one more powerful than I, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie.^(J) ⁸I baptize you with^[e] water, but he will baptize you with^[f] the Holy Spirit.”^(K)

The Baptism and Testing of Jesus^(L)^(M)

⁹At that time Jesus came from Nazareth^(N) in Galilee and was baptized by John^(O) in the Jordan. ¹⁰Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove.^(P) ¹¹And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son,^(Q) whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”^(R)

¹²At once the Spirit sent him out into the wilderness, ¹³and he was in the wilderness forty days,^(S) being tempted^[g] by Satan.^(T) He was with the wild animals, and angels attended him.

Jesus Announces the Good News^(U)

¹⁴After John^(V) was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee,^(W) proclaiming the good news of God.^(X) ¹⁵“The time has come,”^(Y) he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe^(Z) the good news!”^(AA)

Jesus Calls His First Disciples

¹⁶As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. ¹⁷“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” ¹⁸At once they left their nets and followed him.^(AB)

¹⁹When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. ²⁰Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.

Jesus Drives Out an Impure Spirit^(AC)

²¹They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach.^(AD) ²²The people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law.^(AE) ²³Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an impure spirit cried out, ²⁴“What do you want with us,^(AF) Jesus of Nazareth?^(AG) Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”^(AH)

²⁵“Be quiet!” said Jesus sternly. “Come out of him!”^(AI) ²⁶The impure spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek.^(AJ)

²⁷The people were all so amazed^(AK) that they asked each other, “What is this? A new teaching—and with authority! He even gives orders to impure spirits and they obey him.” ²⁸News about him spread quickly over the whole region^(AL) of Galilee.

Today is the 14^th day of February welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian Happy St. Valentine’s Day to all of you who will be expressing love in one way or the other today. What a…what a beautiful thing to do, what a wonderful thing to do, to express love. And, so, sure flowers and chocolates and nice dinners and all of these things, so appropriate for those that we are in love with and those that we love deeply, but let’s spread the love of Jesus to everyone we encounter today. And maybe if we make that a habit it will become a lifestyle and that would indeed be Christlike. So, happy Valentine’s Day. On this day, and every other day, we gather here around the Global Campfire to take the next step forward in the Scriptures, and that is what we will do today. We’ll move back into the book of Exodus. Many laws have been given. Many things have needed to be constructed and they are being constructed. We have the formation of a people happening in the wilderness. Today Exodus chapters 37 and 38.

Commentary:

Okay. A couple of things as we approach the center…I guess this is the center of our second month together. First from the book of Proverbs. Those of us who have been trying to make wisdom a category, something that we slow down and seek, something that we slow the…the whirlwind of the pace of life down enough to even see what’s going on, we’re told that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. It isn’t the entirety of wisdom. It’s where it all starts, that we fear in reverence and honor and humble ourselves before the Lord, that we also become aware of His overwhelming power and authority, that everything that we see and everything that we can understand He has made and everything that we are unaware of and all of the things that are in the vast extremes that we have no knowledge of, He has knowledge. So, on one hand, it’s this awe, even fear of that kind of authority. Like imagine standing next to a massive waterfall and you’re just watching this thing crash down around you and you see the power of it and the noise of it and it…it brings up this trigger of fight or flight. Like it’s overwhelming or a storm out on the ocean while you’re standing on the beach. This is awe-inspiring, but it’s also…well…we have the fear of it, the respect of it. We’re not gonna just go for a swim in the middle of a hurricane. So, we hold that knowing that that is God. And then we have this understanding and awareness that this almighty all-powerful God is our Father. This is the beginning of the story. This is the beginning of wisdom.

And then we look at the Gospel of Matthew from our reading today and we concluded our second book of the Bible and our first book in the New Testament. We concluded the Gospel of Matthew today with the resurrection of Jesus and His declaration – “all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” That is almighty. That is what we were just talking about. But Jesus goes on. “All authority in heaven and earth has been given to me therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the Father…in the name of the Father and of the son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” That’s how the gospel of Matthew ends. It ends with love. It ends with the bestowing of a mission. It ends with all authority in heaven and on earth given to Jesus.

Could we get any better news, any kind of better card than that on Valentine’s Day, to know that we are loved to this degree and have been welcomed into the family in this way, that we are children of God or as the Bible tells us, joint heirs with Jesus in this kingdom. That is good news. And may we celebrate this good news on this day where we give love.

Prayer:

Father, we offer You our hearts. We love You. We worship You. We adore You. We humble ourselves before You. We acknowledge Your authority, and we are grateful for Your love. A love that is beyond all love. A love that is a model of what pure love looks like. And may we carry this love to the world this day and every day we pray in Your name, the matchless name of Jesus. Amen.

Thank You for the work that he’s going to be doing in the community that he serves Father God to bring people to You Jesus so You can transform them and make them whole and make them new Father God and so they can live out a purpose that’s passionate for Your Kingdom. Thank You, Jesus for the opportunity that You give…that You’ve given him to do that Father. We…we’ll be praying for you Chappie and lifting you up in prayer and I can’t wait to hear the testimonies that you share of the transformation that’s happening in the area that you’re serving. Hi everyone, it’s Christy from Kentucky. I wanted to call today because I have a prayer request for a friend of ours who is a pastor. And his name is Jay and Amy his wife and their two children teenage boy and girl. Pastor Jay and his son were visiting family about 3 hours from their home, and they came home. It was late at night and there was hardly any traffic on the road. They were almost home when pastor Jay came upon a hover round with a man driving it in the middle of the highway. He didn’t have lights on the hover round and by the time pastor Jay saw him he swerved to miss him and clipped him. And it caused the hover round of course to turn over and the man was thrown. When pastor Jay got out of the car, he approached the man. He was facedown. Unfortunately, this man is deceased. I’m asking you family this pastor is such a loving pastor who preaches the gospel with so much fire and compassion and love and his goal is to see everyone saved. And to know that this tragic accident occurred and not knowing whether or not this man knew the Lord it’s just…it’s just very difficult for him and his son. So, I’m asking you if you would please pray for the man’s family. We pray that the man was saved. We pray for this family for peace and for comfort and we pray for pastor Jay and his son, his wife and his daughter, that they may also be consoled by our Lord in the way that only he can do. OK everyone I love you guys.

Hi Daily Audio Bible it’s Lorelei and Boynton Beach. I want to call in and pray for Brad and the gentleman who lost his wife to suicide. Heavenly Father thank You for Brad. Thank You for his brokenness. Thank You for my own brokenness. I related so much to… What took two months for me took years for him. But same thing period not Your…not our will, Yours’ be done. Lost a job. I have a vision for You. I thought it was time. It was not time. And it may never be time. I still don’t know but what I do know is You’re good. You hedge us in before and behind and lay Your hands upon us. We can argue with You, and we can do our own thing, but the condition of my heart was so strong. And I knew it was You. Even though darkness started to come, I knew it was You. I heard a voice behind me say don’t go the right or left, walk this way. So, thank You for Brad. Continue to restore and show him the way that You would like him to go. Give him a heart of service to You and fill him with Your joy, the joy of Your salvation. Restore, revive, renew like only You can. Lord the gentleman whose wife committed suicide. I pray that You comfort him with Your sovereignty. That You instill upon him that You’re even sovereign over this. And that is a doctrine that sometimes sounds cold. But You are never cold toward Your creation or Your people or Your children. This wasn’t a surprise to You, but I pray that You comfort him and draw him to Yourself through this. In Jesus’ name Amen.

So, I want to just thank God for healing that and it coming to pass. I know that it’s something small but sometimes we do forget the small things that happen in our lives. And this is just confirmation that, you know, that God does meet each and every one of our needs if we continue to trust. Greetings DAB family this message is for Brad out of Livingston Mt. I’m praying for you. But I just couldn’t help to hear as you were talking about praying to God to bless a business that you knew was not for you and because of His grace He did. And now you’re having difficulty too of trying to get out of it because of fear. And as you’re talking about business, I’m actually saying the same prayer before a person. And I said to myself, how many times have we asked God to bless a business, a partnership, a relationship, that wasn’t for us, but we didn’t realize it until afterwards? And then I asked God like please get me out. Or how many of us stay in it because of fear? So, I thank you for your call and your vulnerability and your transparency. And I just pray that we would all be in a position where we pray for God’s will over our life. It may not be what we want or like, but I know it’s going to be what we need because God knows what we need. So, that’s my prayer specifically for you Brad for your business but for the world at large, that we just continue and believe and trust in God and pray God’s will over our life as it pertains to every subject in our life. Exodus 37-38

The Ark^(A)

37 Bezalel^(B) made the ark^(C) of acacia wood—two and a half cubits long, a cubit and a half wide, and a cubit and a half high.^[a] ²He overlaid it with pure gold,^(D) both inside and out, and made a gold molding around it. ³He cast four gold rings for it and fastened them to its four feet, with two rings on one side and two rings on the other. ⁴Then he made poles of acacia wood and overlaid them with gold. ⁵And he inserted the poles into the rings on the sides of the ark to carry it.

⁶He made the atonement cover^(E) of pure gold—two and a half cubits long and a cubit and a half wide. ⁷Then he made two cherubim^(F) out of hammered gold at the ends of the cover. ⁸He made one cherub on one end and the second cherub on the other; at the two ends he made them of one piece with the cover. ⁹The cherubim had their wings spread upward, overshadowing^(G) the cover with them. The cherubim faced each other, looking toward the cover.^(H)

The Table^(I)

¹⁰They^[b] made the table^(J) of acacia wood—two cubits long, a cubit wide and a cubit and a half high.^[c] ¹¹Then they overlaid it with pure gold^(K) and made a gold molding around it. ¹²They also made around it a rim a handbreadth^[d] wide and put a gold molding on the rim. ¹³They cast four gold rings for the table and fastened them to the four corners, where the four legs were. ¹⁴The rings^(L) were put close to the rim to hold the poles used in carrying the table. ¹⁵The poles for carrying the table were made of acacia wood and were overlaid with gold. ¹⁶And they made from pure gold the articles for the table—its plates and dishes and bowls and its pitchers for the pouring out of drink offerings.

The Lampstand^(M)

¹⁷They made the lampstand^(N) of pure gold. They hammered out its base and shaft, and made its flowerlike cups, buds and blossoms of one piece with them. ¹⁸Six branches extended from the sides of the lampstand—three on one side and three on the other. ¹⁹Three cups shaped like almond flowers with buds and blossoms were on one branch, three on the next branch and the same for all six branches extending from the lampstand. ²⁰And on the lampstand were four cups shaped like almond flowers with buds and blossoms. ²¹One bud was under the first pair of branches extending from the lampstand, a second bud under the second pair, and a third bud under the third pair—six branches in all. ²²The buds and the branches were all of one piece with the lampstand, hammered out of pure gold.^(O)

²³They made its seven lamps,^(P) as well as its wick trimmers and trays, of pure gold. ²⁴They made the lampstand and all its accessories from one talent^[e] of pure gold.

The Altar of Incense^(Q)

²⁵They made the altar of incense^(R) out of acacia wood. It was square, a cubit long and a cubit wide and two cubits high^[f]—its horns^(S) of one piece with it. ²⁶They overlaid the top and all the sides and the horns with pure gold, and made a gold molding around it. ²⁷They made two gold rings^(T) below the molding—two on each of the opposite sides—to hold the poles used to carry it. ²⁸They made the poles of acacia wood and overlaid them with gold.^(U)

²⁹They also made the sacred anointing oil^(V) and the pure, fragrant incense^(W)—the work of a perfumer.

The Altar of Burnt Offering^(X)

38 They^[g] built the altar of burnt offering of acacia wood, three cubits^[h] high; it was square, five cubits long and five cubits wide.^[i] ²They made a horn at each of the four corners, so that the horns and the altar were of one piece, and they overlaid the altar with bronze.^(Y) ³They made all its utensils^(Z) of bronze—its pots, shovels, sprinkling bowls, meat forks and firepans. ⁴They made a grating for the altar, a bronze network, to be under its ledge, halfway up the altar. ⁵They cast bronze rings to hold the poles for the four corners of the bronze grating. ⁶They made the poles of acacia wood and overlaid them with bronze. ⁷They inserted the poles into the rings so they would be on the sides of the altar for carrying it. They made it hollow, out of boards.

The Basin for Washing

⁸They made the bronze basin^(AA) and its bronze stand from the mirrors of the women^(AB) who served at the entrance to the tent of meeting.

The Courtyard^(AC)

⁹Next they made the courtyard. The south side was a hundred cubits^[j] long and had curtains of finely twisted linen, ¹⁰with twenty posts and twenty bronze bases, and with silver hooks and bands on the posts. ¹¹The north side was also a hundred cubits long and had twenty posts and twenty bronze bases, with silver hooks and bands on the posts.

¹²The west end was fifty cubits^[k] wide and had curtains, with ten posts and ten bases, with silver hooks and bands on the posts. ¹³The east end, toward the sunrise, was also fifty cubits wide. ¹⁴Curtains fifteen cubits^[l] long were on one side of the entrance, with three posts and three bases, ¹⁵and curtains fifteen cubits long were on the other side of the entrance to the courtyard, with three posts and three bases. ¹⁶All the curtains around the courtyard were of finely twisted linen. ¹⁷The bases for the posts were bronze. The hooks and bands on the posts were silver, and their tops were overlaid with silver; so all the posts of the courtyard had silver bands.

¹⁸The curtain for the entrance to the courtyard was made of blue, purple and scarlet yarn and finely twisted linen—the work of an embroiderer. It was twenty cubits^[m] long and, like the curtains of the courtyard, five cubits^[n] high, ¹⁹with four posts and four bronze bases. Their hooks and bands were silver, and their tops were overlaid with silver. ²⁰All the tent pegs^(AD) of the tabernacle and of the surrounding courtyard were bronze.

The Materials Used

²¹These are the amounts of the materials used for the tabernacle, the tabernacle of the covenant law,^(AE) which were recorded at Moses’ command by the Levites under the direction of Ithamar^(AF) son of Aaron, the priest. ²²(Bezalel^(AG) son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, made everything the Lord commanded Moses; ²³with him was Oholiab^(AH) son of Ahisamak, of the tribe of Dan—an engraver and designer, and an embroiderer in blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen.) ²⁴The total amount of the gold from the wave offering used for all the work on the sanctuary^(AI) was 29 talents and 730 shekels,^[o] according to the sanctuary shekel.^(AJ)

²⁵The silver obtained from those of the community who were counted in the census^(AK) was 100 talents^[p] and 1,775 shekels,^[q] according to the sanctuary shekel— ²⁶one beka per person,^(AL) that is, half a shekel,^[r] according to the sanctuary shekel,^(AM) from everyone who had crossed over to those counted, twenty years old or more,^(AN) a total of 603,550 men.^(AO) ²⁷The 100 talents of silver were used to cast the bases^(AP) for the sanctuary and for the curtain—100 bases from the 100 talents, one talent for each base. ²⁸They used the 1,775 shekels to make the hooks for the posts, to overlay the tops of the posts, and to make their bands.

²⁹The bronze from the wave offering was 70 talents and 2,400 shekels.^[s] ³⁰They used it to make the bases for the entrance to the tent of meeting, the bronze altar with its bronze grating and all its utensils, ³¹the bases for the surrounding courtyard and those for its entrance and all the tent pegs for the tabernacle and those for the surrounding courtyard.

Jesus Has Risen^(A)

The Guards’ Report

Exodus 35:10-36:38, Matthew 27:32-66, Psalm 34:1-10, Proverbs 9:7-8

Today is the 13th day of February, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian and it is wonderful to be here with you today at this threshold of a brand-new week that is all out there in front of us, and no matter what is gone behind us and that is not happening that has passed and what is out in front of us is the future. What is happening is now and as we walk into this brand-new week and continue to learn and live into what we’re learning from the Scriptures we will be learning wisdom as well as how to be here and will be able to slow down and make the next right decision, making what is in the future bright. And so, let’s choose wisely our thoughts, words and deeds this week and our first step forward will be to take the next step forward in the Scriptures. We’ll read from the New International Version this week, Exodus chapter 35 verse 10 through 36 verse 38.

Commentary:

Okay so, in the gospel of Matthew today, we have reached this point that Jesus has been crucified, and the way we leave today’s reading He’s dead and there’s this terrible sense of loss from those who were following him and there is this tremendous sense of urgency to cover the tracks as quickly as possible. They don’t want anybody stealing Jesus body and creating a rumor that would be worse than the first and there’s just all of this going on, centered around the idea that God has come to His people and has allowed those people, his own creation to kill him. And of course, as the story goes of our faith, we understand that He won’t stay dead, but I have also found that we fast forward to that point where He’s not dead anymore really quickly. When this is the point at which we realize, if we’ll stay here for a moment, what it cost, which is a transformational moment when we are face-to-face with the fact that there is no way for us to get ourselves to God in our own righteousness, by our own good deeds, there’s none of us that are just so good, so good that He can’t deny us. The Bible tells us accurately, all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. And what we’re seeing with Jesus body hanging from a cross and then permission given to take his body and His burial, is a love that we don’t really have a cata-, I mean, this is an unconditional love that cannot be ended by death. And so, as we take this first step forward into this brand-new week, this is what we’re greeted with and this is where we’re left to meditate today, that Jesus died, He died. It was very confusing, it was all kinds of drama around it but He walked right into this, on purpose, for us.

Prayer:

And so, Jesus, gratitude words of gratitude words of worship humble, attitudes and hearts and postures, even falling to our knees, even falling to our faces, these are all appropriate responses when we come face-to-face with the fact that we were absolutely doomed and You absolutely rescued us. But our words of gratefulness and worship, they’re not enough. There’s nothing that we can do that would be enough, there isn’t some sort of act we can do that will make it all right and so we’re exempt from needing Your mercy and grace, we’ve just finally gotten there. We fall short all the time, we fall short. And yet, through what we’re seeing here this sacrifice, a bridge has been made, a pathway has been secured, we can come into Your presence boldly as children, knowing that You have mercy, knowing that You forgive, knowing that You are Fathering us, that You are maturing us, that we are growing and that our lives must represent You in this world. And so, we sit with that today. What does that look like in our story? Come, Holy Spirit into this we pray in the name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.

Hi, DAB family, this is the Farmers Wife from snowy upstate New York. I wanted just to say thank you. I have been in awe in the love and support that I hear from my family regarding myself and the farmer and our new child. I am ten weeks exactly today. So, the little munchkin is growing. I had a doctor’s appointment and so far, everything looks good. I got to see the little heart beating which was just so beautiful. And the prayers that you all have been praying have just really transformed my heart. I’m looking for God now in everything and I’m starting to see Him and it’s beautiful. So, thank you for that. Hi DAB family, this is Tammy from the Adirondacks. I just got done listening to the February 9th podcast and Ivy, you called in talking about Brian’s commentary on just taking things little-by-little. You lost your husband and sister I’m just lifting you up to the Lord right now. Grief is a, it’s a process that takes us down so many different roads. But each of those roads you’re not alone, the Lord is with us. And it’s okay that it’s been two years and your husband’s stuff is still where it is. I lost my mom in 2019 and my dad still has her stuff sitting on her side of the bathroom sink. It’s a process and there’s no timeline, there’s no, when you should or how you should, you do things in your time, what makes it feel good to you. What, I don’t know if it’ a good thing but, what works for you. But know during the whole process that you are loved. I lift you up in prayer and I ask Jesus to just lift you and fill you with His peace that passes all understanding. To fill you with His joy. And just know that you’re not alone. We all face so many different things and we’re blessed to have each other. But we’re blessed to have a might God that carries us through these storms, these trials that we go through. Hello family, this is Beloved Child in Takoma, Washington. And I’m requesting prayer for mother, my stepfather and I. There’s a lot going on right now. My mother has very advanced stages of Alzheimer’s but she has done a lot of very hurtful things my whole life and I have been doing things for her for the last 15 to 20 years and now she’s turned on me and thinks I’m being mean to her.
