Genesis 41:17-42:17, Matthew 13:24-46, Psalm 18:1-15, Proverbs 4:1-6

Today is the 20th day of January, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible, I’m Brian, it is awesome to be here with you today as we gather around the Global Campfire and take the next step forward together. We’re working our way through the book of Genesis. But in the book of Genesis were working our way through the story now of Joseph, who is the great grandson of Abraham and its an intriguing story because a lot of really, really difficult horrible things have happened to Joseph in his young life but those really challenging things have led him now to be standing before the king of Egypt, also known as the Pharaoh. Pharaoh has had a restless night, he’s at a couple of dreams that are bothering him tremendously, but nobody can tell them if they have meaning or if they do have meaning what the meaning is so, Joseph who was been in that dungeon has been showered and shaved and brought before the Pharaoh to tell him the meaning of his dreams. Joseph has told Pharaoh, I can’t do this, but God can and so now Pharaoh is prepared to tell Joseph his dreams and that’s where we pick up the story. We’re reading from the New Living Translation this week, Genesis chapter 41 verse 17 through verse 42.

Commentary:

Okay, so a massive switch or change of fortune for Joseph in the book of Genesis today and we’re told in today’s reading that when this happens Joseph is 30 years old so, he’s fairly young man who has spent nearly half of his life in slavery unjustly. He was sold or trafficked by his own brothers. He was the slave of Potiphar but he found favor, he did well as a servant and he became in charge of everything. But Potiphar’s wife wanted and we talked about all that and he fled and so he ends up in a dungeon. He interprets some dreams in the dungeon, he becomes in charge of the dungeon but he also gets left in the dungeon. So, we are observing story in the Scriptures where nothing is right or just or fair for Joseph. I mean he’s guilty of being a little bit arrogant as a younger man, he’s telling his family his dreams, he’s guilty of being the favorite son of his father Jacob, but he didn’t do anything in that case, other than that his mother was Rachel and she has passed away and his father loved her. And one of the things that we’re supposed to glean here is that Joseph has every opportunity to grumble and complain, he has every opportunity to cry foul. There’s nothing he can do about any of this, but in his heart of hearts he has every reason to become bitter and just allow that to consume him rather than doing that he clings to God for dear life and you can only imagine what kind of experience it must’ve been for Joseph for armed guards to come from the palace, looking for Joseph, collecting Joseph. At first Joseph wouldn’t know whether he’s going to be set free or whether he’s going to be executed. What a strange twist right, I mean he’s been in the dungeon for years. So, he’s probably not well kept and the next thing he knows he’s being cleaned up and brought before the king but the God that Joseph has been clinging to gives Joseph insight into Pharaoh’s dreams. Pharaoh recognizes what’s going on here and puts Joseph in charge of the land of Egypt. That’s quite a switch of fortunes to happen in one day. So, in today’s reading we go through all of that. Then we go through seven years of prosperity and now we are in the years of the famine and I thought I can work in these stories sometimes, we just have to pay attention like, we moved a decade into the future rather quickly. But the point of the story is the famine did come as Joseph had said. Egypt was prepared because of Joseph’s advice and implementation of his administration. The famine is severe and it is touching the nearby nations, including the land of Canaan, where Israel or Jacob and his sons are living. Jacob sends his brothers to get food and they meet up with their brother Joseph. They don’t know it and they bowed to him just like he dreamed. Now, Joseph is speaking harshly and accusing them of spying, but he knows who they are. So, as he just turned vindictive after all of this because if he wants to be vindictive, he could say I am your brother you sold me into slavery now you will die. So, as we watch this forward what we’re watching Joseph do is test his brothers. He’s getting them to reveal their heart. He’s not just jumping in and identifying himself and showing his superiority. He’s trying to get information. So, we’ll watch that as the story develops tomorrow, but as we read the story we’re not just supposed to think well, Joseph is a really righteous person, we’re supposed to see that he has every opportunity to lose faith, to lose hope and to deny God because where is God in the middle of all this. Joseph doesn’t do that and it takes a long time but all things are beginning to work together for the good of Joseph. And so, let’s consider even inviting the Holy Spirit to help us consider the things that we have been enduring for a long time. Have we’ve grown bitter and angry? Have we lost hope, have we lost faith? Joseph’s story gives us a posture, a perspective, a model to consider.

Prayer:

And so, Holy Spirit, come and help us to consider that, help us as we consider and meditate upon the story of Joseph today or anything that you’ve brought to mind from the Scriptures today. Lead us toward what we need to know, lead us into the truth, lead us to be wise, we pray in the name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.

Prayer and Encouragements:

Hey DAB family, first of all, I just wanted to give praises for making it halfway through January. This is my second year going through Daily Audio Bible first thing in the morning and I just love how much it’s become a part of my routine and how much this community means to me. Yeah, and just waking up and listening to God’s word and feeling connected to this group of people who read and worship daily together. That is such a blessing. Real quick, I just wanted to lift up a prayer request for a family in our church, one of those like, core families in your church, you know in your community, everybody knows and loves. They have a beautiful, just turned 13-year-old daughter who on January 1st who was admitted to the ER where they found a cancerous brain tumor. So, she’s gone two surgeries since then to remove the tumor but she does still have a long road in front of her for pediatric oncology. And, yeah, and fighting a cancerous brain tumor. And, you know, we believe that God has already done amazing things and that He’s going to continue to do amazing things but if you guys could just lift Emmy up in your prayers. And Emmy and her family the Arnolds, Erin, Brett and their son. I just really ask that you guys, keep them in your prayers cause they have a long road and their really amazing, so. Thank you.

Hi, my name is Crystal and I am a struggling mess. My husband has been so far from me. He has separated from me for a couple of years now and he comes over and my, I miss him so much. And I am trying to stand for my whole family, my kids, my marriage and me. I haven’t always done everything right but he just, it’s just so hard, I don’t understand because my kids are living in the world. My husband’s living in the world with another and I’m trying so hard to pray for each one of them, standing in the gap. And I know that God is victorious and I know He has a plan and a purpose for me and our family. And I might, just struggling and asking for a favor, like Abraham and of faith, that continued faith in my Father. That I can pray continually for myself and my husband to come back to God and to his family if it’s God’s will. But I believe in positive attributes and speaking the word and talking forward and I just love listening to all of you guys. I think I’ve called a couple of times but I just wanted to reach out. This is a new year and thank everybody for sharing their heart with me. And thank Brian …

Good morning, Daily Audio family, my name is Todd. Just praying, I ask that you guys could keep me in prayer. For the beginning of this year, just feels, like the other lady, just feels lost a little bit. And I’m just praying that my walk with Christ could heighten and I could experience Jesus more than I have. I know that I, I know that I have gifts and purpose but I’ve stand at a standstill where I’m just kind of lost. Then just getting back in the word, just praying that I could just for encouragement, mental, peace and stress and strength even during this pandemic to, to keep going. So, just asking that you guys pray for me, for my life, for my walk, for my faith. I know that I’m saved, I’m a believer but the enemy is constantly attacking my mental on I’m not good enough or I’m not doing this good enough or anything else and I know that’s just the trick of the enemy. I just pray for encouragement and strength while I continue this journey to follow God and read and live picking up my cross daily. And leading my family, I have a beautiful wife and children. My wife right now is not a believer so, that’s a challenge in itself. But I just pray that she will be able to find Jesus even through my leadership and just me sacrificing, living it.

Good morning Daily Audio Bible family. My name is Reshawnda. I’ve been a part of this family for probably, at least, 13 years. And what just happened in those years just listening to the Daily Audio Bible and I’m usually very quiet. I’ve only called in once for my son when he was three for heart surgery. That went well and he’s almost 16. Today, I’m calling for that same son and I just want to put in a prayer request for him just for his salvation and his walk. He has told us that he isn’t a believer and he’s doing things you know, contrary to how he was raised. But I’m listening to the community prayer today and I’m just so encouraged by all the call-ins. It’s January 16th but I’m listening to the prayers from the beginning of the month and I’m so encouraged by the people who encourage us who have children to just keep going. And I do have children in all stages, my oldest is almost 30 and my baby, who we’re getting ready to adopt is almost two, so I have 28, 29, 28, 17, almost 16 and a two-year-old. So, I just wanna lift him up for his salvation and choices and different things like that. And I’m just reminded of Brian’s own testimony where he walked away but came back and look what he’s done now. I’m hanging on to all of your encouragement and all of God’s promises and Brian’s testimony. Guys, continue to pray for my son Michael. Have a good day.

Hello, Daily Audio Bible family, it’s Jennifer from Ohio. It’s been a while since I called in, the last time I called in I think it was during the time with my mother was battling with Glioblastoma and she passed away a few months after that phone call. But that is actually part of the reason why I’m calling today because I think one of the most beautiful aspects of this ministry is when we hear the voice of another person and it touches our hearts in a way that we never expected. And Dorothy Jane, I heard your voice on the Sunday, January 16th podcast and let me tell you that just by virtue of your voice, the vernacular that you used, you blessed my life in a way that I can’t possibly describe. You remind me so much of my mother. I feel like, whenever I hear your voice, it’s a little love note from God just allowing me to get a sense of her presence once again through your voice. My mom, you reminded us that you were 85-years-old, my mom was 75-years-old, she passed away. But I promise you, I feel like there are so many similarities, just in your personality, just by the things that I’ve heard you say. So, I just wanna say you matter to me and everyone in this family. Those who call in and those who don’t, you all matter. And I think it is such a beautiful thing when our stories, our journeys, our paths intersect and we’re able to touch each other’s lives. Please keep calling in and keep sharing your testimonies, your prayer requests and your stories because somebody out there needs to hear it. I love you all, talk to you soon.

Genesis 39:1-41:16, Matthew 12:46-13:23, Psalms 17:1-15, Proverbs 3:33-35

Today is the 19th day of January welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian It is wonderful to be here with you today as we do what we do every day, take the next step forward in the Scriptures. And, so, let’s do just that. We are working our way through the first book of the Bible, the book of Genesis and we have encountered the story of Joseph, who is the son of Jacob who is the son of Isaac who is the son of Abraham. Joseph has been sold into slavery. He was trafficked by his own brothers, He’s been taken from his homeland and has arrived in Egypt where he has been resold. He is now owned by Potiphar who is the captain of the guard for the king of Egypt, the Pharaoh. It’s not fair what happened to him. And let’s find out happens next. Genesis chapter 39 verse 1 through 41 verse 16.

Commentary:

Alright. So, in the book of Genesis yesterday we began following the story of Joseph, one of the children of Jacob, one and the children of Israel, since Jacob’s name has been changed. And yesterday we watched as Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers which was not just or fair. He was subsequently taken to Egypt where he was sold to the captain of the guard for…for Pharaoh the king of Egypt. His name was Potiphar. In fairly short order Joseph’s administrative skill was perceived and before long Joseph was in charge of running the household for Potiphar. So, it’s totally unjust that he was sold into slavery, but I guess if he had to end up somewhere this isn’t the worst place to end up. Things are going decent except that Joseph is a young, handsome, well-built man. The Bible goes to great lengths to tell us this. And, so, what we are to understand is that Joseph is quite desirable, and Potiphar’s wife desires him and she begins to pressure him to go to bed with her. And this goes on and on and on until one time she corners him, and he speaks, “I can’t. Like cannot…I cannot sin against God. I cannot sin against Pharaoh. Everything that Pharaoh owns I am in charge of, except for you. I can’t do this.” And she continues to press him until he has to flee away from her, leaving his cloak. And she’s at this point in a no-win situation. Now she has some of Joseph’s clothes and there’s some sort of story going to be told. So, she jumps out in front of it and concocts the story that Joseph actually made advances toward her which is likely to get and any red-blooded husband upset. And, so, the next thing we know Joseph is thrown into the dungeon into prison. This is not fair. And if there were opportunity to have the sense that you had reached the lowest point of your life, I guess the dungeon qualifies as a good place to consider that. But instead, Joseph receives favor and again his administrative leadership in short order puts him in charge of the prison. I mean, there’s a prison warden. But Joseph does such a good job by proxy he’s in charge. Before too long there are two officials, the chief baker and the cupbearer to the king and their thrown into prison because they’ve angered the king in some sort of way. They have dreams. Joseph interprets the dreams. The dreams come true. One of them, the baker is executed, and the cupbearer is restored to his position where he promptly forgets all about Joseph. This is not fair. Two more years go by. That is not fair. And then Pharaoh has a couple of dreams that can’t be interpreted and that’s when the cupbearer remembers Joseph. And then Joseph is brought from…after years…years in the dungeon…is told to take a bath and shave and get looking nice because you’re going to see the king. And he does and Pharaoh says I hear you can interpret dreams. And Joseph says only God can do this. And we’ll have to wait until tomorrow to see if…like what other unfair thing needs to happen to Joseph. This guy has been dealt a bad hand. But at this point we should be able to look at storing and go, man how would I…how…I can’t even imagine this scenario but how would I react? At what point in this story would I begin to say this is not fair God, where are you? And then the story starts sounding familiar because we would all have that tipping point. What’s interesting is that that’s not the way that this story goes. That not Joseph’s reaction to any of this. Rather than being angry at God Joseph seems to be holding on for dear life to the only one who could do anything about it. And, so, as we move through our day and reflect back upon this story we can think about our own tipping points and times we’ve raised our fists and shaken them at the sky, saying where are you. And we will continue to move through and examine the story of Joseph tomorrow.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word and we thank You for another day of life and the opportunity to allow the Scriptures to seep into our minds and down into our hearts. And as we allow the story of Joseph to contrast with our lives and interact with our lives and the things that have made us bitter and things that have made us angry and the things we don’t think are fair and we look at the way that we’ve reacted in those situations, and then contrast that with the story of Joseph and the way that he reacted in those situations we are offered plenty to think about. And, so, we ask Your Holy Spirit to help us enter into this and pray as You continue to sanctify and transform us in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hi this is Simone. This is Simone calling in from Houston and just wanted to call in and pray for everyone listening. First year with you guys and I’m also double DABbing and I’m just so inspired. At first, I just wanted to pray. Father God on this morning I just wanted to lift you up. God, I ask that you would search my heart and anything that’s in it that’s not like You I ask for forgiveness for. Look God I just wanted to give you the honor and the glory and the praise for my life and for everyone listening. Lord in this year I’ve made a commitment to just walk with You and do and live and be better. And God I thank You right now that even on the things that I need to work in on my life that You walk alongside me Lord God, that You coach me and You teach me. Teach me how to be more like You. That is the desire of my heart and I pray for everyone listening that that's…that’s one of their desires as well. Lord God I just thank You for life and for grace and I thank You for how far I’ve come in my journey as someone that has struggled with depression, that…that fights depression and deals with suicidal ideations and thoughts. And I just thank You God that You are a healer. You are a Jehovah Rapha Jehovah Jireh. You are everything that we need. And I thank You that in this season we will all look to You for strength Lord God. We will lean on You for the help that we need. God help me to encourage and pray for and be there for others and we just thank You for life and strength. And I just want to bless Your holy name. It’s in Jesus power and wisdom and strength I pray this prayer. Amen.

Hello everybody this is Eddie from Las Vegas. I’m calling about a request that I just heard from Tammy. She’s fasting from Facebook. And Tammy I just want to tell you, you know, those struggles that you’ve been having, you know, it sounds like you’re going through a lot. And, you know, I praise God that you’re in remission, you know, and you’re having to take care of your husband and all these things that you’re dealing with, you know, the anxiety depression, all that kind of stuff. Sister you don’t have to walk through that alone anymore. I just want you to know that you are worthy of everything that God has for you, that He loves you and He’s with you and He’s for you. And He will never fail you. Everything that you’ve had to walk through in the past. When I heard that…that you were taking care of your husband all those years and everything, I…I thought to myself, my God, you know, she had to walk through all that without you Jesus and now that you are saved, He’s walking with you through it and He loves you. So, take courage sister and, you know, just remember that…that you are not alone. He loves you and He is your strength, He’s your song, He’s your victory. You know, you are no longer bound to anything that the devil might throw at you, you know. Those chains are broken. The darkness has to flee in their light of Jesus. It cannot stand, it will not stand in the presence of God. So, just take heart and hold on to that truth that Jesus is with you, and He will carry you through everything. You know, everything that you go through you won’t go through alone. So, praise God. Be encouraged sister. Love you.

Hey DAB family this is your sister Ashley from California and I wanted to come on here and pray for the sweet sister at the end of the January 14th post. My sweet sister who has recovered from cancer, but it is now on the journey of growing a family. My heart breaks for you and I want to encourage you as I admire your humility. You’re heeding the verse of wisdom as you’re asking for prayer and discernment. I am asking our loving advocate Jesus to grant you and your husband the wisdom, strength, and encouragement to follow the path of the Holy Spirit leads you to. I want to leave you with this scripture. Those who sow would tears will reap with songs of joy - Psalms 126 verse 5. I am praying for your joyful harvest. And family I just want to ask you for prayer too because I got COVID but God has graciously been helping me get better. And I just want to ask you family to please pray for my dad Doug as he is not…as he now has it and he has pre-existing medical conditions. Like, he had strokes and all that jazz. So please pray for that but I also I just want to thank God for the super natural Holy Ghost power he infused my mom Heather with to take care of the household of eight while my brother, sister, and myself had been sick. So, I am praying for everybody out there who has gotten COVID. It is different for everybody, but man alive it is not something to be trifled with. So, I am praying for our world out there and let’s just pray for them too. Alright DAB family. I love you and I’m glad to be on the up and up. Bye.

Daily Audio Bible family this is grandma and Nikki. I am in desperate need of prayers for healing. I have bronchitis and I’ve had it since New Year’s Eve and I also have COPD which is making this even more difficult. It makes it hard to breathe and hard to talk and I desperately need healing from Jesus. Please, please pray for me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

This is Marissa in southern Ohio and this message is for Remorseful Sinner. I wanted to offer you a special kind of prayer that you can participate in if you’d like to. So, just feel free to repeat after me and anywhere where I say my boyfriend you can just insert your boyfriend’s name there. So, in the name of Jesus I renounce all authority I gave to my boyfriend and to the occult when I decided to get involved with witchcraft. I renounce any known or unknown covenant agreement or commitment that I made with him or anything dealing with the occult. I renounce every spoken incantation, spell, agreement or prayer that was stated. I take back all authority I lost as a result of these things. I break any curse that came on my finances that came as the result of paying for anything that had to do with the occult. In the name of Jesus, I renounce every sexual, spiritual or soul binding with my boyfriend which resulted from me sharing my body with him. I now take back all authority I gave to him. In the name of Jesus, I renounce fear that came into my life when all of this situation started happening. I take back all authority that I submitted to fear. In the name of Jesus, I renounce all bindings of hatred, bitterness, resentment, or anger that I have against him or myself for this specific situation. I take back all the authority I have submitted to hatred, bitterness, anger, and unforgiveness. Today I make a choice to forgive myself. From the depths of my heart, I forgive myself and I bless myself and I declare this issue is finished and my life from this day forward. And I really believe there is power in Jesus’ name. I mean we have to believe that. Why are we listening to the Bible if we don’t believe that? So, I encourage you and I just bless you in the name of Jesus.

Genesis 37:1-38:30, Matthew 12:22-45, Psalm 16:1-11, Proverbs 3:27-32

Today is the 18th day of January, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible, I’m Brian and it’s great to be here with you, like it is every day around the Global Campfire together, a nice place to keep warm as we move through the winter months at least those of us who live in the northern hemisphere and those of you in the southern hemisphere who are experiencing summertime what’s summer without a good campfire? So, it is great to be here wherever you may be, I’m just here in the rolling hills of Tennessee and let’s dive in today. We will pick up where we left off yesterday. We have been traveling alongside Jacob, whose name is now Israel and his family, the children of Israel. And as we enter our reading today, we’re going to zoom in even further and focus on one of those children of Israel and his name is Joseph and the Bible will have us zooming in on Joseph’s life for a while. So, let’s dive in, Genesis chapters 37 and 38 today.

Commentary:

Okay so, in the book of Genesis, we are entering the story of Joseph, one of the children of Israel or Jacob, his beloved son, his favored son. If you remember Jacob’s story right, he gets married to two sisters and there’s a lot of conniving and trickery going on but the woman that he truly loves is Rachel and for the longest time she had no children, she was barren. Joseph was born to Jacob and Rachel. He loved this boy; he favored this boy and the rest of his sons knew it and there was a lot of animosity there. So, we’re meeting Joseph while he’s like a young teenage boy and we will be following Joseph’s story all the way through his life to his death. But as we begin the story, we can see that Joseph is acting like a teenage boy right, he as these big dreams, he’s kind of arrogant about it. He knows he’s the favored son, probably because of the circumstances, has a pretty big chip on his shoulder. We’re just entering into the story and we heard about the special coat of many colors that he has but even in the first day of reading through this story some pivotal tragic things happen to Joseph. He’s in search of his brothers to find out how they’re doing with the livestock and report back to his father, his brothers see him coming and they decide he should die, they should kill him. They’re not all in complete unity about this but the majority wants to kill him and then they figure they shouldn’t just kill him; they should just throw him into a well to die and all this. As it turns out though what they do is not to kill him, but rather to traffic him, so he is sold to some Ishmaelite traders and then he is taken to Egypt, which is not an insignificant journey, where he is subsequently marketed and resold to another person, Potiphar, the captain of the guard for Pharaoh. So, there’s a whole lot of twists and turns in this story before us, but where we sit right now, we could probably all agree that no matter the arrogance of Joseph, it’s probably not fair that he was human trafficked by his own family. So, we have to imagine this sheltered boy who is favored by his father, who had a really good life out in front of them with plenty of authority and plenty of resources. So, he’s protected and feels like he knows everything and he’s just a teenage guy untested. The next thing we know he is in Egypt being sold as a slave so, his world has gotten rocked and he would have to be dealing with the emotions of being betrayed by your family, by your brothers, a total sense of shock. He’s in a land he’s never been to before and his station in life is gone from freedom to slavery and he’s just a young kid to process all of this by himself. So, what we’re being invited to do through this story is to watch Joseph, to watch the way he conducts himself and believe me when we do that, this story becomes a mirror so, we have a lot to learn from Joseph in the days ahead.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for the Scriptures. We thank You for Your word, we thank You that we can immerse ourselves in it each and every day together. We thank You for this Community. That we can do this, that we can take this journey through a year and through the Scriptures. But even if we did that as an exercise without opening our hearts to what the Scriptures are telling us and opening our hearts to surrendering to You and Your leadership in our lives, we will have simply systematically read a big book. And so, we’re asking come, Holy Spirit, lead us into all truth. And as we engage with the stories that we’re in right now, the story of Joseph, open our hearts as we open the Scriptures. We pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Prayer and Encouragements:

Hello, this is Michael Gene Elmore aka The Greatest Trucker. And that’s my identity but my identity has been stolen and quite literally. I’ve been a trucker for a long time and I hauled heavy equipment out of Oregon, the West Coast, hauled it into Canada quite a bit. And I felt like I needed to carry a lot of ID and so I did and carried my ID around with me. And I carried it in a backpack, kept it close to me. And the other day I flew into Phoenix and they picked me up and brought me to where the truck was and just before we went there, we stopped in this little place to get something to eat and while we were in there the truck was stolen, the pick-up the guy that picked me up at the airport, his pick-up was stolen. And long story short, they got the pick-up back but they got my back pack with all my identity on me: social security card, passport, driver physical card in there, I had all this identity, even had my birth certificate in there. So, my identity was stolen. It’s almost as if I feel like now, I don’t know what it means. The devil knows who I am as if he didn’t ever before. So, I ask you to pray for me for whatever this means, my identity to be in Christ and for it to not matter, what my identity is stolen and out there.

Hi, my name is Jesse, I’m in New Jersey. And this is my second year trying the DAB. I didn’t make it through the Bible last year and I thought I should start over. So, I started over and I’m actually keeping up, which is cool. I’m a pretty new Christian and God’s putting me through a season of hardship right now and I’m struggling. And I’m praying and I’m doing what I can but I need some prayers. I’m going through some financial hardship and I’m struggling and I need some prayers. I’m having a really difficult time. And I have a wife, I have a daughter, they’re incredible people but I’m struggling and guys I’m a sinner. I struggle with, I struggle with a  lot of things. And I’m trying to work through it and I’m repenting each day, I’m trying. But I’m struggling. I love the DAB, I love the DAB family, I love this but I just need prayers because I’m really, really struggling. Thanks everyone. Love you DAB family.

Hey my name is Eric. I’m calling from Tampa, Florida. I’ve been listening to the Daily Audio Bible podcast on and off for a number of years and this is the first year that I am consistently listening. Sometimes I miss a day or two but I go back and I continue on the journey and I’m really grateful for it. I’m calling for prayer for two reasons. One, my dad, he’s been in the hospital in ICU for the past few days and we’re really hopeful that he’s gonna come out of this. He is a believer you know, we’re just hoping that he gets the strength to fight. And the second reason for the call is, you know, I’ve struggled for over 20 years with heavy depression and alcoholism. I’m 41 and I’m just so tired of the cycle of defeat and I really want to overcome this so I can fulfill my purpose, right. So, yeah, if you guys could lift us up. My name is Eric my dad’s name is Angelos. Pray for the Crews family and prayers for all of those that are struggling in similar ways. And pray that we find a community of people that can inspire us and encourage us to move forward and to fight the good fight and to do so with unity and love. And so, I really appreciate it, thank you so much. Praise and Peace, Love and Life. Bless up. Thank you.

Hi Daily Audio Bible family, my name is Larissa, I’m in the UK. I’m new to the community, I’m new to Christianity but I, there’s a faith in my life and I’m hoping that this year I will, I will fill it with faith. So, I’m calling today for a prayer request for myself because I’m 26 and I’m going through some medical challenges at the moment. And I’ve had an appointment today which kind of really threw me. And having lots of tests and it’s all moving very quickly. So, I’m feeling really blessed to live in the UK where it’s all free. But yeah, I’m just struggling a bit. So, if you could pray, I would have the strength to carry on with all these tests and investigations and not lose faith while doing it and that the outcome would be positive, that would be great. Thank you so much.

Hi ya’ll, this is Taken With Love from Louisiana. This call goes out to Western Wyoming Woman. Girl, you just touched my heart just now by listening to your plea going to see your mom. You know girl, when your mom is gonna be gone into eternity, she’s gonna be gone. So, you are doing the most awesome thing to travel across the country to go and bring accolades and honor and just celebrate your mom, this really touches me. I lost my mom five years ago. And I would, anything, anything thing to have her sitting right here with me so I could tell her how wonderful she was. Oh, did she have faults? Yes, we all do and I remember all of my faults. It’s hard to be a mom but I think it’s such a picture of how God loves us. He forgets our past, remember He cast it into the sea of forgetfulness and He redeems us and you have the opportunity to redeem your relationship with your mom and this is gonna catapult her into eternity. Have that hard conversation with her while you’re there of knowing Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, but it won’t be hard because the Holy Spirit will be with you. I’ma be praying for you that you’re gonna come back with a great report of all the celebration and all the good things that God did, not only inside of your mom, but inside of you. God bless you girl, I’m praying for you.

Genesis 35:1-36:43, Matthew 12:1-21, Psalms 15:1-5, Proverbs 3:21-26

Today is the 17th day of January welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I’m Brian it’s great to be here with you today as we gather in our little oasis around the Global Campfire to take the next step forward in the Scriptures. In the book of Genesis, we are in the third generation after Abraham. There was Abraham then there’s Isaac, and now we are surrounding ourselves with the drama that surrounds Jacob, whose name has become Israel. And Jacob and his wives are having a family. They’re having children, and those are the famous children of Israel. So, let’s dive in. We’re reading from the New Living Translation this week. Genesis chapters 35 and 36 today.

Commentary:

Okay. So, today in the book of Genesis we read a lot of names, a lot of people spreading out into a lot of territories, the descendants of Esau. And we’ve been working really since last week to sort of connect the dots to the story that we’re telling because all of these names, and all of the places that they go to and the things that they do can become confusing so that we don’t really know what we’re talking about anymore, the significance. And we spent probably enough time over the last few days saying Abraham, right, Abram turns to Abraham who has son of promise named Isaac. He had also had another son with Hagar the maidservant of Sarah named Ishmael. Isaac married Rebekah and they had twin boys, Jacob and Esau. It was Esau’s descendants that we read of today. Jacob also has descendants. We’ve been reading about their births for days. Jacob was married to Rachel and Leah, sisters. They and their maidservants have been having children into the family of Jacob, whose name has turned to Israel. And, so, these children are the children of Israel. We spent today learning of the children of Esau. So, Jacobs children are the children of Israel, and Esau’s children are the Edomites, brothers, family. But we’ll see that they don’t stay family. And as the generations go by the Edomites and the Israelites are not friendly nations. In today’s reading Isaac dies as does Rachel, the beloved wife of Jacob, also known as Israel. And, so, we have now been able to see the generations of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. And Jacob or Israel’s children become the 12 tribes, each son a tribe of its own, the 12 tribes of Israel. So, I know when you’re just reading the narrative it can get confusing about who’s who and who belongs to who and where did they go and why did they go there and all of this. If we remember we’re following a big long family story it certainly keeps us locked into the story that we’re reading, but understanding this origin story helps us when we get many, many, many generations into the future. When we have all brand-new names and all kinds of new things going on we can remember we are still telling this…this big family story that begins with the patriarchs - Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

And then we turn into the book of Psalms, and we see the instructions for the orientation of life. And so often this happens. It’s encapsulated, something that we can hold onto, something that we can live into and become. So, the…the question that is asked. Actually, there’s two questions in the Psalms. “Who may worship in your sanctuary Lord? Who may enter your presence on your holy hill?” So, who can do that? Who enters the presence of the Lord? As Christians we could answer from that perspective and say, “those who are in Christ.” And I believe that. But that is through the righteousness of Jesus, not our own. In the Psalms we are…this question is being asked way before…way before the New Testament was ever written way before Jesus came. So David, here’s referring to the person that can enter into the temple complex, who can come and worship, who is it that can come into the Lord’s presence? And the answer is given, “those who lead blameless lives and do what is right, speaking the truth from sincere hearts. Those who refuse to gossip or harm their neighbors or speak evil of their friends. Those who despise flagrant sinners and honor the faithful followers of the Lord and keep their promises even when it hurts. Those who lend money without charging interest and who cannot be bribed to lie about the innocent. Such people will stand firm forever.” This Psalm is thousands of years old, and its truth is still very much intact. This is the posture of heart. This is the posture to come into the Lord’s presence with worship. And although this was written long before Jesus entered the world and grew up and had a ministry on this earth redeeming us this is also reflective of the way that Jesus lived. And we who are believers are to imitate Christ. That is also known as being Christ like. And, so, let’s meditate upon these things today inviting the Holy Spirit to reveal to us. Because some of these things we probably are actually doing well at and other things we need an adjustment. And we find out where we can be divided and where we can be double minded and where things can begin to break down as the Bible comes to us as a friend speaking truth right into our hearts.

Prayer:

Holy Spirit, we invite You into this. This is how our lives are to look. But this is how we want our lives to look. We want to lead blameless lives. We want to do what’s right. We want to speak the truth from sincere hearts. We want to ignore and refuse to participate in gossip or harm our neighbors or speak evil of our friends. We want these things, and yet the more we attempt in our own strength to by brute force be this kind of person the more we realize the impossibility without the leading of Your Holy Spirit. This is possible through Your grace and mercy and guidance and clarity and comfort in our lives. It is not possible in our own strength. And, so, our part is to surrender and not be triggered by anything but the prompting of Your Spirit who will only trigger us in the right direction. So, come Holy Spirit into this we pray. In the name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Good morning my name is Haley I’m calling or leaving a message on Daily Audio Bible to say thank you so much to Brian and his ministry team and to everyone who leaves prayers on here. I was a bit nervous about leaving a message because it’s my first time, but I just want to say thank you so much. It moves my heart and literally had tears welling up in my eyes listening to everyone praying and leaving messages for each other and listening to the scriptures as well. I want to say thank you to my friend Kevin. I hope he gets to hear that one day because he always encourages me to read scriptures and encourages…encouraged me to listen to Daily Audio Bible as well. But it’s amazing because hearing the scriptures and hearing the word changes…can change your life and has definitely changed mine, just diving into God and His presence and feeling…and knowing him more, knowing His heart and His heart for His people and how much He loves us all. And I just encourage anyone today to just keep on pressing into God and keep on seeking His voice. And when you’re going through something whatever it may be I just pray for everyone, that everyone will feel His peace and His love in Jesus’…

Good morning DAB family this is Just James. I’m so encouraged every morning as I listen to this and…and hearing Brian read the word. And just I couldn’t help but call in this morning because it seemed like some of the testimonies and stories that…that…that you all are sharing each…each day is like so lining up with what’s going on in my family. And the first today a man called in about his wife and my mom’s going through the same exact thing with being overstressed and…and…and they had to put her into a…a psychiatric rehab place to…to get her restored back from the stress. So, please keep her in prayer for that. And also, my daughter, going through things with her boyfriend. And it’s so similar to the testimonies that are being called in and just pray that she may…right now she’s seeking to better understand what it means to be a believer. And just pray that God will open up her heart and my…my grandchildren as well. And the third thing is, pray for the Bible study that…that we had done for so many years while incarcerated that we've…we’ve begun doing it out here and are sharing the things of the Kingdom with the brothers out here so they can grow and be strong men of God within their families and just walk in the ways of the Lord and the fellowship of His grace and suffering. And I just love each and every one of you. And it’s so good to be able to come and join in this family every morning and…and share all with brothers and sisters all over the planet. I love y'all. Talk to y'all later. Bye.

High dab family this is Janine from Washington and I wanted to say a prayer for Dave, pastor Dave from Dover DE that called in today on January 13th. I do know a little bit about the struggles of being a pastor. I…my grandpa was a pastor, my brother, my uncle, etc. So, I’ve seen the challenges and…and have a real heart for pastors. So, Lord I just want to lift up Dave and his family to you right now. God would just provide for all their needs. First off, I pray for their finances, personally and for the church Lord that You would just open up Your heavens and pour out a blessing on them Father. Would You just provide for every need? Would You playing money from unexpected places God? Would You just show Yourself strong on Dave’s behalf and his church and his family God? And would You also just protect Dave and his family and his church from attacks of the enemy. God, I know in the end times the enemy is…is…is on the warpath, but we know You are greater God. Greater is he that is in You than he that is in the world Lord. So, we just pray against any attacks of the enemy and just pray a hedge of protection around him and his family and his church Father. I also want to lift up just his physical health and his family, just keep them physically healthy, pray for Dave’s emotional health Lord. Just be his strength Lord. Just daily just give him that emotional strength he needs to make it every day every minute every hour of every day God. So, Lord I just thank You so much for the calling that You’ve given Dave. And, so, I just pray that he would walk worthy of that calling and that You would just bless his ministry God. I pray that it would prosper. I pray You’d bring in the people to his church that…that You want Lord. So, Lord we just commit him to You now in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Hey brothers and sisters of the DAB this is Patrick from Seattle and I have a very needed and heartfelt prayer request for you if you have time. The last couple of years have caused an incredible insurmountable amount of stress for my wife. I am bold and courageous in my faith in that I’m going to be able to do what I can to glorify God and His name through all of these difficulties we keep encountering; however, my wife is falling away from the faith and literally making herself sick, physically sick with worry. She hasn’t been able to eat and is having horrific abdominal pains and digestive issues and her hair is falling out and emotionally she’s falling apart and the breaks my heart to see it. And when I ask her to pray with me for resolution she won’t or can’t. Her name is Michelle and again my name is Patrick. And if you could, your prayers for her comfort would be appreciated and for eyes to be opened and her ears to hear the truth and to come back to God first and then hopefully me afterwards as well. Thank you. I love you all.

Hello, my wonderful DAB family this is Rosie also known as Great to be Free in Jesus. Please pray for me and my family. I’ve been sick a lot the last few months and I think part of the reason is because I’ve lost five family members in three months. First, I lost my stepson then I lost my brother, then I lost my brothers oldest daughter, then I lost…my stepchildren lost their biological mother, and then I lost my daughter in law. Please pray that there will be no more death in the family and pray that I will start getting better because I think I’m just kind of devastated over all these losses. And I would really appreciate your prayers. I really appreciate the DAB. I love my wonderful DAB family and I thank you for all the encouragement that you’ve given me and the people who have called in and prayed for me. I really do appreciate it and all those who pray for me even if they didn’t call in. I love you guys. God bless you. Bye.

Genesis 32:13-34:31, Matthew 11:7-30, Psalm 14:1-7, Proverbs 3:19-20

Today is the 16th day of January, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian. It is wonderful to be here with you today as well, as we reach out and grab the doorknob and throw open the threshold and walk into a brand-new shiny sparkly week and this is the third time that we’ve been able to greet a brand-new week, in this sparkly brand-new year. So, let’s take the next right step forward, which will lead us back into the Scriptures. We will read from the New Living Translation this week and we’ll do what we do every day, pick up where we left off yesterday. In Genesis, Jacob has finally dealt with the Laban, his uncle, and that separation is final. He’s on his way back to his homeland. But he’s got a brother out in front of him and the last time they were around each other, this brother, named Esau wanted Jacob dead because of all the trickery. And Jacob has been informed that his brother Esau is on his way to greet him with 400 men and whether or not that’s a good or a bad thing, well let’s find out, Genesis chapter 32 verse 13 through 34 verse 31.

Commentary:

Okay so, in our time in the book of Genesis today a pretty pivotal thing happens. Jacob gets a name change, after an all-night wrestling match and his name becomes Israel, which means one who wrestles with God and in so many ways that is a theme that we will see over and over and over. So, basically Jacob was returning to his homeland, knew that his brother Esau was there, knew that there was a tremendous amount of animosity between Esau and Jacob when he had left, in fact Esau wanted to kill Jacob. So, it’s been a couple of decades and nobody is the same as they were a couple of decades ago, so a lot has changed but he doesn’t really know how Esau is gonna react and he’s coming with 400 men so he pretty much does everything that he can think of to do to give himself some kind of defensive posture and he starts sending gifts of animals in front of him so that, as Esau encounters this train basically of gifts coming his way before he meets Esau, that Esau will understand that Jacob is coming in peace, that Jacob is coming humbly and Jacob does what he can to protect his wives and children, and his possessions. And then he spends the night alone when this wrestling match happens and there has been a very, very long running, like centuries long-running discussion about who Jacob was actually wrestling with, was this just some random guy that wanted to have a long wrestling match, was this Esau his brother or was this God because, based on the text alone you could think any of those three things. So, the Scripture says, a man came and wrestled with him until the dawn began to break. When the man saw that he would not win the match he touched Jacob’s hip and wrenched it out a socket and then the man said let me go. The dawn is breaking and Jacob says no I’m not gonna let you go unless you bless me. That’s a clue right there though because Jacob had stolen right, he went through deception and taken the blessing of his father, Isaac, that was intended for Esau. So, you can see Jacob holding onto this person for this blessing, if it’s his brother in an attempt to make things right between them. But this blessing that gets offered includes a name change, which is something that God initiated with Abram, changing his name to Abraham. So, in the text for us watching it we would like who is this and then Jacob asked the important question, tell me your name. But the person replies, why do you want to know my name and then he blesses Jacob so, we don’t get to know the name but then Jacob names the place where this wrestling match happen Peniel, which means face of God. Jacob says I have seen God face-to-face, yet my life has been spared. So, we can’t really say for certain, with whom this wrestling match is taking place, but it’s a pivotal moment because this is when Jacob becomes Israel, and this is the first time for us to have this kind of reference. So, now we know Jacob’s children, Israel’s children, are the children of Israel and that is important because as we’ve already mentioned previously, it is their story that we are reading.

Prayer:

And so, Father, we thank You for Your word and we thank You for the Scriptures. Thank You for all that we can learn and glean and orient ourselves toward as we move systematically day-by-day, step-by-step through the Scriptures. We are grateful for that; we are grateful for this brand-new week that we have entered. We humble ourselves before You and ask for Your leadership and Your comfort and Your counsel and we pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Prayer and Encouragements:

Hi this is Ivy from Missouri. The last time I called in was last year. I don’t even know where to start, I just feel like my life is going nowhere. And I believe in Lord Jesus Christ, I know He lives in me but it just seems like maybe it’s the winter, maybe it’s my situation but since my husband has passed almost two years ago, I just feel like I’m so alone and I’ve got four beautiful children but I feel like I’m the only one that professes my belief in Christ. They used to but they don’t anymore. I especially need to know how to handle my daughter Veronica, who is such a lover of animals sometimes it just gets in our ways of being loving to each other. And please Lord I just pray that you would help her too. Understand that I do love her, I don’t know what I’m trying to say I just know that I need some help here in knowing how to go on loving them and letting them know that Jesus loves them too. Just pray for me please. Lord Jesus, thank You for this program Amen.

Hi DAB fam this is Asia from the City of Angels. And I do want to report that this has been my first year with the Daily Audio Bible and I just want to thank the Harding family so much for this platform. Thank you, Brian. Thank you, Jill. Thank you, China. Thank you, Ezekiel. Thank you for all of your contributions as a family to spreading the word of God and drawing people near to Him through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. So, thank you so much, this has been definitely life-changing for myself and I recently asked my daughter if she’d be interested to start listening as well. And she started listening this year. So, I just pray that it feeds into her like it has so many of us. But that’s actually not really why I’m calling and actually calling to covet your prayers for a young man out here as I’m sure you all know and see that Los Angeles, we have so many homeless people, like many other cities but I think we have more than most other cities. We have thousands upon thousands at least 80 maybe 100,000 homeless people at any given time. And there’s a young man I recently saw sitting down in front of the 99-cent store and honestly it was last Sunday and the Lord provoked me to speak with him. So, I sat down and talked with him and his name is Cyrus, he’s 25 years old. He knows the Lord. He just feels completely abandoned by Him. He’s angry. So please pray for him. His name is Cyrus. Thank you. God bless you all.

Happy New Year! May 2022 be the greatest year and with God it will be. I can say, life if wonderful. February the 19th I will be 86 years old living life more abundantly. May the blessings to the Harding family be great and all involved in making this wonderful platform. I’m retired now for 30 years. I listen to all…all programs; the chronological order, Proverbs, Psalms, Ezekiel, oh and definitely the DAB. This is Dorothy Jean from Fort Worth, Texas. Love you much and may God’s blessings continue in your life. Love you much, bye. Love Ezekiel’s goodbyes.

Hello everyone, this is Rob from Grand Forks, British Columbia Canada on January 11th. I’m new to the Daily Audio Bible on January 1. My dear wife passed away from a sudden heart attack five years ago. And the first year I was in a fog and just going through the motions. Part-way into the second year God helped my realize that I was coasting spiritually and while I was going to and serving in my church each week, I had no quiet time or devotional so I just got myself a read-through the Bible in a year outline and committed myself to do that and after about a month I knew God was working in my life because there was a piece that was unexplainable. I remember finishing my devotions in the sunshine on my friends’ steps one Spring Sunday, there was just enough time to shower and get to church and I said, God, one more thing, I sometimes feel I’m in a swirly and as I go to grab on to something it is already gone and then I’m not accomplishing anything. So, I’m just gonna trust that you will put prominently on my brain what you want me to do and unless it’s against Your word or in some way wacked I’ll know it’s from You. Then a thought hit my brain hard as I stood up. You should wash the dog. I objected, I don’t have time to wash the dog, I don’t want to wash the dog and I’m sure he doesn’t want a bath. But what did I just pray? Bathing the dog wasn’t unbiblical and while it was odd it wasn’t wacked. So, I called the, our dog Banjo and he jumped in on his own but he sure was anxious to get out. After about five minutes of wrestling with him I got a little frustrated and turning back parallel to the tub and said Banjo, just stand there, relax. Do what I ask you to do and I’ll do the rest. It was as if God said, hello. It was the best sermon I had that year. God continues to be faithful in my journey as I move from healing to being prepared for a new relationship. And I’ve been encouraged by the many reminders I’ve already had in just the short time with the DAB family that God is good, He is faithful, that He is greater and He will provide.

Hello, my name is Julie and I’m a first-time caller. Today is the 11th of January and this time last year I started my journey on the Daily Audio Bible and it has been amazing. I’m just so grateful for the fact that I’ve been able to read or listen to the Bible from the beginning to the end for the first time in my life. So, I just called to say thank you Brian for everything you do, thank you for the way you break down the word in bite size pieces for me to understand. Thank you, thank you, thank you, and I really do appreciate this family. My kids also listen to Ezekiel and yes, I love this Community. Thank you, thank you, thank you. And if there is anybody out there who is starting and don’t think they can do it, I just want to encourage you that you can do it, with God you can do it.

Genesis 31:17-32:12, Matthew 10:24-11:6, Psalms 13:1-6, Proverbs 3:16-18

Today is the 15th day of January welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian it is wonderful to be here with you today. This I guess is about as close to the center of the month as we’re gonna get, like today and tomorrow. We’ve got 31 days in this month so I guess technically halfway through tomorrow’s reading will be the dead center of the month, but here we are approaching the middle of our first month on our journey through the Bible this year. We have been reading from the Christian Standard Bible this week, which is what we’ll do today. Super high drama in the book of Genesis. Jacob has decided to leave his uncle Laban with his wives and his family and his wealth and his riches and he’s trying to do it covertly so that there isn’t a bunch of family drama, the kind of drama that could potentially end up with bloodshed. So, let’s dive in and find out what happens. Genesis chapter 31 verse 17 through 32 verse 12.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for the Scriptures. We thank You for the way that they work themselves into our minds and seek their way into our hearts. We thank You that they give us context, context for what the stories are about but context for our lives. They…they shape us, they transform us and we are grateful that through the power of Your Holy Spirit You will lead us into all truth, which is promised in the Scriptures. And, so, as we bring a week to a close, we heed and pay attention to what the Proverbs are telling us. Speaking of wisdom, “long life is in her right hand. In her left riches and honor. Her ways are pleasant and all her paths peaceful.” We all will seek this. These are some of the primary motivators for what we do in our lives. Although we have made so many missteps because we have blown right through an intersection, some kind of crossroads in our lives and never even thought of wisdom as a category. But we do now, and we are seeking wisdom. “She is a tree of life to those who embrace her. And those who hold onto her are happy.” That’s who we want to be. And the first step in deciding that is who we want to be. And the second step is to walk intentionally without stopping in that direction. And that part, we can’t do on our own. We need You to lead us. Our part is to be aware and paying attention. And even in that we need Your help. We are hopelessly and utterly dependent upon You, and there is so much freedom and safety in that. And, so, come Holy Spirit and led us we pray. In the name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hi everyone, it’s Christy from Kentucky I wanted to call today January the 9th Sunday and I had to stop the podcast as soon as I heard remorseful sinners request for us to pray. Sweet child, your transparency moved my heart. God is quick to forgive. The remorse in your voice is so real and we know that you had asked him to forgive you and we thank him in advance for hearing and answering our prayers to know that we are forgiven when we ask for forgiveness for our sins. And we all fall short of the glory of God. When we come to Him humbly on our knees on our face in the quiet times, in those quiet recesses of our life, when we cry out to Him, He is faithful to hear and to answer our prayers. Lord I ask that You bless this sweet child Father God. Give her peace we pray. Father let her find a church that she can be grounded in. Father surround her with brothers and sisters who truly love her who will speak life into her. Father let what has happened in her life turn so that she can speak life into the lives of other women who may walk through the same thing that she has come from. We thank You Lord in advance for using this beautiful woman of God, Your daughter and we thank You Father God for being so merciful to forgive us of our sins. We love You Jesus, and we praise You. In Your precious name we pray. Amen. Remorseful Sinner I pray that you will soon turn that name to Victorious Warrior. We love you so very much. I’m sending you a virtual hug.

Hi my name is Jouanne. I listen every day I’m a second time caller. It’s January 9th and I’m praying for first time caller because I was…I felt like the Holy Spirit told me to. I believe she referred to herself as Remorseful Sinner and I just wanted to encourage her and I want you to be proud of yourself that you threw away your tarot cards and all that demonic stuff and…and God is faithful and just to forgive and he loves you and…and…and once you’re forgiven, once you’re cleansed by the blood of Jesus you don’t have to feel that guilt anymore. Jesus took it all on the cross and if…and if demons are bothering you, put on the armor of God. He is with you. You don’t have to be scared. Rebuke them in the name of Jesus. His…his name is powerful and above all names. And I pray for everyone on the DAB every day after the reading and I pray for you on the Prayer Wall. I would ask that you pray for me. I’m going through something right now that I…I just ask that I come through the other side unharmed and better, that the best outcome may come. I know God has a great plan for me but I have something in mind that I believe will bring Him glory and I pray to God that the outcome of this situation it feels like life or death to me but I also ask that you pray for my family, that they get closer to the Lord, that I get in better fellowship with the Holy Spirit and bring glory to God. And I want to just give all praise to God. And I pray thee all these things in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Good evening DAB family this is Daniel the Wholehearted calling from Maryland. And I recorded call in last week and then for some reason never submitted it and I wanted to call now because you’ve been on my mind. I wanted to pray for Baankeir in India and I wanted to pray for People On the Water I believe in Indiana. Heavenly father I just lift up my brother Baankeir and I just pray that You would touch his heart and that You would just remove any depression and sadness away from him, the desire to take his life Lord, that You would just show him Your love and be an ever…or a real presence in his life at this moment Lord. Lord I pray that You would provide Christian friends and brothers to him to encourage him, to lift him up during this tough time. I pray this in Jesus’ name. I also want to lift up People On the Water. Heavenly Father I pray for People On the Water and just thank You for him opening up and being transparent with the family and just sharing struggles he’s going through Lord. And I pray that You would give him strength and that You would make him bold and help him to see the ways that he’s going to be a witness to others and that he can help strengthen others even in the times where he feels at his weakest. And Lord I also went to lift up Remorseful Sinner who just called in a couple days ago God and I pray that You would help her to seek forgiveness from You and that as she does that she would feel clean and that she would feel forgiven and that You would truly restore her. Lord just thank You for the love for all of us. Even when we screw up, even when we mess up, You’re always there. You’re a loving Father. You…You are happy to take us back. Pray all this in Jesus’ name. Goodbye everybody.

Hello this is Angela I’m calling from Alabama. I’m calling to just mainly state my appreciation for the Daily Audio Bible. It has truly been a godsend and it keeps me daily in God’s word, which we all know is so important. I am incredibly humbled when I hear all the Saints praying for others. And I try to journal on a regular basis everybody’s name that gets lifted up and try to go back and pray for those people as well. I am so thankful for each of you. I do have a prayer request. And my prayer request is for spiritual wisdom and decisions that I need to make at this point in my life. I want only to be in God’s will and only led by Him. I pray for ears to hear and the strength to walk in obedience to God’s perfect will. Thank you so much Daily Audio Bible and all you prayer warriors. God bless each of you. In Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.

Genesis 30:1-31:16, Matthew 10:1-23, Psalm 12:1-8, Proverbs 3:13-15

Today is the 14th day of January, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian. It is wonderful to be here with you today as we come around the Global Campfire and take the next step forward together, we’ve been reading from the Christian Standard Bible this week, which is what will continue to do while it’s this week, picking up where we left off. We had some trouble brewing in the book of Genesis. Jacob, which is the third-generation now after Abraham so, Abraham’s grandson Jacob has fled to Paddan-arm to get away from his brother Esau, many years have passed now and Jacob is married to two women who are sisters. Jacob loves Rachel but she has no children and he doesn’t love as much Leah but she is bearing sons to Jacob. So, let’s pick up the story, Genesis chapter 30 verse 1 through 31 verse 16.

Commentary:

Okay so, in Genesis Jacob is married to Rachel and Leah. He has been having children. Rachel’s been struggling. Rachel decides that she will give as a wife, her servant, her maid, Bilhah to her husband as a wife so that she can have children through her. That’s what happens and a new son is born to the household named Dan and then it happens again. Bilhah has another child and his name is Naftali. Meanwhile, Leah has stopped having children, so she takes her maid, Zilpah and gave her to Jacob as a wife and through the course of time and nature, she has a son and his name is Gad and then she has another son and his name is Asher and then Leah gets pregnant again and has another son named Issachar and then she has 6th son and he’s named Zebulun and then finally Rachel has a son of her own and he is named Joseph. It’s quite possible if you’ve been around the Bible much at all that some of these names are familiar, even if there’s no context for them, somehow there familiar. They’re very, very important. They literally cover the rest of the Old Testament, it’s actually their story that we’re telling. So, we have Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The patriarchs of the Hebrew people. Jacob has children, we’re watching this happen in our daily readings, Jacob has children, these children will all grow up to be tribes of their own and we haven’t gotten to it yet but we will in the same way that Abram’s name was changed to Abraham by God, Jacob’s name will be changed by God, to Israel. These kids that are being born are the children of Israel and it will be their story that carries us forward.

Then if we flip over into the book of Proverbs and listen to the voice of wisdom we again have two sentences that say an awful lot about where we should be pointing and aiming our lives. So, I quote “happy,” we all be happy right, “happy is a man who finds wisdom and who acquires understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and her revenue is better than gold. She is more precious than jewels, nothing you desire can equal her.” So, wisdom isn’t stuff right. It’s not things, wisdom isn’t this thing you can hold in your hand and the kind of put in a box and set up on a shelf and then go get it when you need it. You have to cultivate wisdom from within but what we’re being told is that there is nothing in this world, in terms of stuff, that is an anyway near as valuable as wisdom. Quoting from the Bible, “nothing you desire can equal her.” So, there are so many things that we can and will touch on and talk about as we go through the Bible but this foundational, fundamental thing that wisdom is the pursuit, that everything follows wisdom, that couldn’t be more bedrock for how we’re supposed to live our lives. So, I remind you again of Daily Audio Proverb because Daily Audio Proverb is a little different than what we’re doing here, we’re taking a couple of sentences at a time and just looking and allowing them to seep into our lives from Proverbs, whereas with the Daily Audio Proverb, we’re moving through a chapter a day. That’s it, just a chapter day, just pouring it into our lives but were able to move through the entire book of Proverbs each month, that takes a couple of minutes a day. It’s not like this massive investment but the Bible is telling us that pursuing wisdom in achieving wisdom is…is the great achievement, nothing that we can desire can equal it. So, investing a couple minutes a day pouring wisdom into our lives is a worthy endeavor. So, I remind you of that resource.

Prayer:

And Jesus, we love You, we thank You, thank You for the journey that we have embarked on. Thank You for all that You have done and all that You have yet to do with great anticipation we open our hearts to You. We trust You, we love You, we worship You. Your name is above every other name. So, come Holy Spirit, lead us on the pathways of wisdom, lead us into all truth, we pray in the name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.

Prayer and Encouragements:

Hi, I have listened for over 15 years, faithfully, and I’m just not someone who calls in so, I don’t even have a name so I’m calling myself, as of today, A Penny Saved. And I’m prompted to call in because my heart broke for Remorseful Sinner and I just would love to offer encouragement that I too have so many regrets. But our own worst enemy when we have gotten ourselves into a mess, I feel especially for women, is that we ourselves have such a hard time forgiving our own selves. And that will suck us into such a dark place and so, I’m just offering encouragement to you that every second is a new beginning. And you make great choices at the beginning of this year but every second is a new beginning. So, just start, start right now. And force yourself to receive God’s grace and move forward. Everything that happens can be part of your testimony. So, hang in there sister, I love you and I will be praying for you.

Hey DAB, it’s Zephaniah. I called a week ago but the first time that I called was back in 2020. And I heard a women’s prayer on here, she’s seemed very scared about finding out that she had HPV and some other things. And the first time that I called it was a few months after I was also diagnosed with HPV. Because I was involved with somebody that I knew I shouldn’t have been involved with but yet I ignored myself and God and I went through with it. And those were the worst time of my life. It was dark, my anxiety was through the roof, panic attacks, depression. And God got me out that situation. And even now, like, I’m dealing with some things with my health still, but you know, God is a healer. And I believe that He can heal us all. So, I’m just trying to be encouraging. Like, I know it’s scary, the risk that come with finding out that you have HPV. But you can’t let the enemy attack your mind. He can attack your body and your health, God can get you through that and out of it. But he cannot have your mind as well. Just have faith, God is a forgiving God. He gives us peace and comfort through all of our troubles and I believe that. And I believe that He is still with you. Just seek Him and just seek His peace.

My name is Kamani Cornett and I am praying now for God to help all those who are in need of money, food or are starving, suffering and being abused. Lord, please help those who are being abused and starving and being left for drugs. Lord, Lord please help those kids who are being abandoned by their parents Lord. We, we thank You for everything You have done for us Lord. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, Amen. Amen. Thank You Father.

Hey this is Jerry calling from Duluth, Minnesota, it’s January 10 and this is my one thousand day without a miss, starting the DAB first thing in the morning when God wakes me up since April 26, 2019 when I renewed my commitment to listen to the Daily Audio Bible to start every day with that. So much happened in the first year. I was looking at my journals. I’m now on my sixth journal and I was looking back at 2019. And on the 70th day was th long walk a very special time. The 73rd day I was convicted to give $73 a month to the DAB and have done so ever since. And then I was at the family reunion. Then when the team went to to to Israel, I watched them on Facebook live right before COVID and then of course COVID hit in 2020. It’s been quite a journey these last thousand days and I’m looking forward to the next thousand. Praise and prayer request, praise: my second daughter Jennifer, after seven years of trying to have children found out last summer that they were expecting and they had their first baby on January 1st, the first baby of the year in Duluth Minnesota. The, all the news media covered a little Boby Poddedin, this miracle baby, quite quite a really cool thing that happened to them. But then I have my third daughter Melissa who is expecting in April and if you recall it’s from an abusive situation that she ran from and she’s now living with us, really difficult time. Pray that God’s will, will be done.

Hi family, I’m calling in to see if I could get your prayers. I’m calling because I was diagnosed with cancer a few years back. And I’m better now, but the treatment left me infertile. I sought infertility treatment, both me and my husband. And we were both very discouraged by the doctors to not continue with treatment. Everyone has their opinion on what we should do. Whether it be adopting or going other avenues but there’s one thing I have learned in this audio or through the word of God, is that you don’t make your own decisions. Because those decisions can make big big big mistakes. And I’m asking for prayer so if you could join me to have the Lord give us direction because we don’t know what will be in our future. Thank you.

Genesis 28:1-29:35, Matthew 9:18-38, Psalms 11:1-7, Proverbs 3:11-12

Today is the 13th day of January welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian it is wonderful to be here with you today as we continue our journey, the journey we’ve really just begun. But if you think, we’ve been on this journey a while, right? Like a lot of stuff has happened in the Bible. We’ve talked about plenty of things in these first 13 days but we’re really just getting started. But there’s only one way to go, and that is forward. And that means the next step forward together. We’re reading from the Christian Standard Bible this week. We’re picking up the story in Genesis where we left off yesterday. Through trickery, Jacob and Rebecca have achieved the family blessing for Jacob kind of cutting Esau out who wants to now kill his brother and his mother Rebekah is like, I can’t lose both of my sons in one day you gotta flee to my brother. So, Jacob’s uncle Laban. And that’s where we pick up the story. Genesis chapters 28 and 29 today.

Commentary:

Okay. So, let’s start in the book of Genesis today because we see some more trickery going in the family. We’ve seen a bunch of trickery. Abraham claimed that Sarah was his sister when he went to big cities, which according to the Scriptures isn’t a lie. It’s the truth. But it’s not the whole truth. And we see Isaac do the same thing with Rebekah to King Abimelech of Gerar. Isaac and Rebekah have twin sons, Jacob and Esau. And Jacob, through trickery, or at least through an ill-fated trade, traded a bowl of stew to Esau in exchange for his birth right. Rebekah later than helps Jacob receive the blessing of the father Isaac before he dies, giving him everything which offends Esau enough to want to kill his brother. So, Jacob has to flee and he fleas to Rebekah’s family where he falls in love with Rachel, the younger daughter of his uncle Laban. He agrees to work for seven years to marry Rachel and when the seven years…seven years…when the seven years are over he finally gets the love of his life, wakes up the next morning only to find out that the woman he’s been with is actually Rachel’s sister, Leah. So, he in effect gets a taste of his own trickery and he agrees to seven more years of labor for Laban in order to marry Rachel, the one that he loves. And, so, we end up today with Jacob being married to two women who are sisters of one another. And you can only imagine what that household was like. Rachel is loved, but she’s unable to conceive. Leah is neglected but she’s having children. These children are very important to the rest of the story. In today’s reading four sons were born from the union between Leah and Jacob, a son named Ruben one named Simeon one named Levi and one named Judah, and these children being born are telling a story of their own. Like I said, one that affects the rest of the Bible. The rest of the story.

Another interesting thing happened in Jacob’s life as he’s fleeing to Paddan-aram to his mother’s family. He has this dream about a stairway to heaven, and he names this place Bethel. The ruins of this place still exist today. You can see it in the promised land films in the Daily Audio Bible Shop, a resource that allows us to visit a lot of biblical places. But the interesting thing about the geography of this area is that it’s very rocky, it’s very __ , it kinda looks like a giant stairway. And, so, what Jacob dreamed is actually rooted in the geography.

Then the let’s go over to Matthew for second. A really famous story, the story of the woman with the issue of blood as it’s known is told today in the book of Matthew. It’s not the last time that we’ll see a story like this. We’re reading Matthew, Mark, and Luke which are the synoptic Gospels, and they share a lot of the same stories. But this story very easily can become a mirror into our own soul. So, the way that this goes is that the story of the woman with the issue of blood wasn’t even really going to be the story. Jesus was on His way to do a totally different thing. One of the Hebrew leaders had come before Jesus and knelt down before Him asking for…like begging for help because his daughter had just died. And he believed that if he…if Jesus would come lay His hands on her, she could live. And, so, Jesus was on His way to this man’s house and the crowds were following along. And it’s among the crowd that was following along that this woman with the issue of blood, she’d been bleeding for 12 years, kinda moved through the crowd and her faith told her if she could just get close enough, that if she could just reach out and touch His clothes that she would be made well. And, so, that’s what she worked to do. And she reached out and touched His clothes and she was made well. But there are a bunch of nuances in this story that really make it riveting. This woman had been bleeding for 12 years. In other gospels we’ll find out that she spent everything she had. Nobody could make her well. Nobody could make her better. As we move forward in the Old Testament we will invariably reach the giving of the law and we will spend lots of time with the laws and statutes that God gives out to form a people. One of the things that is very important in the law is being clean, differentiating between clean and unclean. And there are all kinds of statute about it. This woman, because of her bleeding was on clean, which was supposed to be a regular monthly period of time that would go away. In this woman’s case this had been going on for 12 years. She’s been unclean. And her idea that she could touch the Rabbi Jesus and be healed is beautiful. Truly, it’s beautiful. But anything that she touched would also become unclean, which could be a big problem in the culture. You don’t just walk up to a Hebrew rabbi and make them ritually impure and unclean. It just didn’t bother Jesus that much. He didn’t go crazy and go, “you made me unclean and now I can’t go to God’s presence, and I can’t offer, and I can’t this and I can’t that. And let’s get this woman and shame her even worse.” He just…He just entered into the story. “Have courage daughter”, He said. “Your faith has saved you.” It’s really really interesting how Jesus flies in the face of the traditions around Him. After this woman is healed, He finally continues on His mission to go to this man’s house whose daughter has just died. He arrives at the place, only to find like a professional mourning crew there, which was customary. I mean, they lost their little girl. So, you imagine that there’s going to be grief and sadness and mourning. And often this would be a communal thing. And often there would even be professionals who would come and they would lament and sing songs of lament and cry and wail and make all kinds of noise because this would let all of the neighbors, everybody around the area understand what’s going on. There is grief, there is mourning happening. And Jesus arrives into the midst of all this, and is just basically, “you guys get out of here. Leave” He said, according to the gospel of Matthew “because she’s not dead she’s asleep.” That turned the mourning into laughter and not…in a good way. Like they stopped there mourning and started laughing at Jesus because who is this guy? She’s dead. We know she’s dead. That’s why we’re here. Who is this guy to say she’s just asleep? And, so, Jesus puts everybody outside and goes to the girl and she is raised and restored. And the news of this obviously spreads throughout the region. So, what is it? What is it in you? What is it in your heart that you feel like it’s died, it’s never gonna happen, it’s never gonna work out, it’s time to face the facts? And maybe it is. But what if it’s not? What would happen if we brought this to Jesus again? Maybe we have many many times. But what if we actually heard the words that these people heard? It’s not dead, it’s only asleep. Like what happens in that moment? Does hope arise or does our mourning turn to laughter but not in a good way? In the story that we read from Matthew today, the people stopped mourning and laughed at Jesus. But despite their laughter, they were incorrect. And, so, maybe some of us in our various life circumstances all over the world, maybe some of us can find hope and encouragement, in that .

Prayer:

Jesus, we invite You into that today. We’ve read this story and we confess that often when we think we know how things are they turn out to be a little bit different than what we thought. And we can seek the counsel of a thousand other human beings to give us their perspective, but only You know all things and You know what’s going on. And, so, we cling to You knowing that You are the author of life and You are the author and finisher of our faith. And, so come Holy Spirit we pray. In the name of Jesus we ask. Amen.

dailyaudiobible.com is home base, it is the website, it’s where you find out what’s going on around here. Today is the 13th day of January and it is an anniversary for…for me. It is the anniversary of the…of my mother’s departure. I can remember it very vividly, as if it were yesterday, last week, very recent, and yet today marks the five-year anniversary. That’s actually more surprising to me. It just doesn’t feel like it was that long ago. My…my mom is my mom, right? And I had known her every day of my life. And I mean I still know her, but she passed away five years ago today and she…like my father, he passed away before ministry was even a category that I would even mention with my name in it. But my mom, she saw all that and she was a DABber with us, and she listened every day and we had many a conversation. And, so, I miss my mom. And I try not to insert myself into many of these days. This isn’t about me. I’m here with you on a journey together and we are all students moving forward and trying to learn how to position ourselves in this world and live a God honoring life. And, so, we’re not really here about me, but there are some days, yeah, while reading thinking about my mom. Missing my mom. So, I miss in my mom and…and just telling my community that. I also think about what she knows now and what she has seen and the hope that we will have an interesting conversation in the future. But for now, for those of us who have lost loved ones, whether decades ago or five years ago or in the last year, grief is a real thing, but hope is a real thing too. And what we learn the Scriptures is that there comes a time where death is swallowed up in victory and has no sting anymore. And isn’t it that sting that sticks with us? But we have hope that it will not endure forever. So, anyway. It’s the anniversary of my mother’s passing. I can remember that. I can remember getting the call. I can remember being there and going through that entire day in a blur and then coming back that evening and getting in front of the mic and taking the next step forward no matter what happens and finding comfort in knowing that I wasn’t alone either. None of us are alone and I’m grateful. And enough about that.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hi, it’s Jill from London England just finished listening to January the 8th. Brian I just want to say thank you for that was a really insightful commentary on the Old Testament readings today. I've…I’ve always struggled with those stories and trying to make sense of why they’re in the Bible and never really felt I kind of got it. I know understand times are different but why those pressures and why did that get included in scripture. Anyway Lord, I give you thanks for a wider understanding. I want to pray today for all those who feel that turning to some sexual favors for others is the way that they’re being called to…to live for You. Lord let this be a place where we get strength to stand up for what’s right and what’s wrong. Lord I pray for agencies that are working with those who are trafficked, for people in prostitution, for people who feel that the only way out is to marry their children in order that they can feed their family. There are so many things in the world that many of us have no experience of. We don’t know how desperate people can be, but we just pray that will have a better understanding and also individually each one of us will be willing to trust God even in those times where we can’t see a way out, that we’ll trust Him and wait for His answer. Amen.

We make mistakes and poor choices just about every day
pitfalls surround us every step of the way
in fact life is like a minefield we’re surrounded by exploding devices and snares
many cleverly disguised entrapments designed to catch us unawares
and they begin to pull us down even before the negativity clearly begins to show
and without God’s Holy Spirit it’s impossible for us to know which road will lead to life in which way produces pain
which road will lead to destruction in which prayer produces eternal gain
but as we begin to walk by faith instead of by sight
Gods Holy Spirit will show us the wrong from the right
the spirit of discernment enables us to see the trap pitfall and the snare
and even the most cleverly disguised entrapments will all clearly be laid bare
I can even see that straight and narrow path that I’ve heard so much about
enabling me to walk with confidence without fear and doubt
because God is with us, Immanuel no matter where we go
and as our relationship with the father continues to grow
we feed on his word daily and draw closer to him
and he provides a lamp for our path that will never grow dim
father help us to stay on that path and to stay in that light
strengthen us to resist those temptations coming from the left and the right
help us to stay focused and firmly fixed on our goal
help us to reject the world for the sake of our soul

blindtony1016@gmail.com. Like to give a shout out to Drew from the Bay area. Haven’t heard from you lately brother. Hope all is well. And Tito Ramirez. Haven’t heard from you in a while either. Hope your mother improved. And once again Brian in the Hardin family thank you for this wonderful podcast for God’s Holy Spirit to flow. Keep it flowing y'all. Alright. Bye bye.

Hello everyone, and this is Dave from Dover DE and I have been a listener since 2011 and I just wanted to ask for a prayer request. I pastor a small church here at Dover DE and it’s been very rough. Our finances have been month to month. I’ve been attacked myself emotionally, physically. And I’m asking DAB friends if you could just pray for me. Pray for my family as I pray for you every day. This is my first post that I’ve ever recorded but I’m praying for all of you. Love and blessings.

Hi this is for Remorseful Sinner. My name is Joy and I heard you cry out to God and I felt it in my spirit to call, to give you words of wisdom from the most high God, what He says in his word. He says my daughter I hear you and I love you. As I said, and as I continue to say, I have delivered you out of all your troubles. I am near those who have a broken heart and I save those who have a contrite spirit. So, know and trust that despite your many afflictions I, your Lord will deliver you out of all of them. God also says be strong and of good courage and do not be afraid of the enemy for the Lord your God, He is the one who goes with you. He will not leave you nor will He forsake you. He has also said my daughter, He has said he will subdue all your iniquities and it will have cast them out, He will cast your sins out into the depths of the sea. So, know that God values mercy over sacrifice. He’s there with you and He knows that He…He’s always there with you and He wants you to trust in Him. He wants you to abide in him. So, be rest assured that there’s nothing you will ever do that would ever, ever, ever make Him stop loving you. He will deliver you out of this. He has already done it. So just trust in Him. He says to not remember the former things nor consider the things of old. Behold He will do a new thing. He will do a new thing. He will do a new thing. He will make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. So, rest assured my darling He is there with you. Amen.

This message is for Remorseful Sinner first time caller who called in on January the 9th. This is Paula Living on the Rock Standing on the Rock. As soon as you started to think about the wrongs you were doing you were forgiven because Jesus knows your heart. He knows what’s inside you. He knows what it is that drives you. Put your worries and concerns in His hands. He is the only one who can change things for you. Don’t let the enemy doubt…put doubt and…and total chaos in your mind because that’s what he’s about. As people says, the enemy is not in the clubs or in the crack houses. He’s in the churches and in the homes. He already has those other people. He needs to work on the ones that are loving God. That is why you’re under attack and you had to rebuke…you had to rebuke him. You had to reach out with prayer and surround yourself with people who are like minded, who…who will hold you up like this group. You’ve come to a beautiful spot, a group of people who will lift you up and give you everything you need when it comes to being totally surrounded with a hedge of prayer and commitment. Keep pushing forward my friend. Keep pushing forward. You are remorseful and God knows that, and He will put His loving protection around you. Take care sister. Thinking of you and praying.

Genesis 26:17-27:46, Matthew 9:1-17, Psalm 10:16-18, Proverbs 3:9-10

Today is the 12th day of January, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian, it’s a joy to be here with you today. I can’t think of a better place to be than together here with you taking the next step forward in the Scriptures. So, yesterday in the book of Genesis we reached a conclusion of Abraham’s life and we were told that he was buried in the same cave that his wife Sarah had been buried in, the Cave of Machpelah, which is near the city of Hebron. And I mentioned that that cave, that’s a real place. It’s known as the tomb of the patriarchs at this point and the structure that is over the top of it is quite old. It was built by King Herod around the time of Jesus life and ministry. Abraham and Sarah’s son Isaac has gotten married, his wife is Rebecca, they have had twin sons Esau and Jacob. So now Abraham, Isaac and Jacob have all entered the story. Isaac and Rebekah are living near a city called Harar. Jacob lied to King Abimelech that Rebecca was his sister and not his wife and that’s gotten discovered and so, King Abimelech isn’t so happy about the deception and would like to see them move on. And that’s where we’ll pick up the story, Genesis chapter 26 verse 17 through 27 verse 46.

Commentary:

Okay so, yesterday in the book of Genesis we’re talking about how Isaac and Rebecca were living near the city of Harar with King Abimelech and how Jacob had done the same thing his father Abraham had done by saying that his wife was actually his sister and I I pointed that out, simply to observe the fact that trickery was part of that family’s story and I mentioned that we weren’t done seeing that and we see it again today. Isaac has reached the end of his life. So, you can see we’re moving through time rather rapidly and it was time for Isaac to bestow the fatherly blessing upon his firstborn and transfer the family resources and wealth but also responsibility onto his firstborn son Esau. Rebecca was listening to all this and once Esau was gone on the hunt, she got Jacob together and they tricked Isaac and Isaac blessed Jacob, which made Esau so mad when he discovered it that the way he consoled himself while he’s waiting for his father to pass on was to plot how he’s going to kill Jacob. And so, Rebecca got him out of there and told him to flee to her brother Laban. Now, we’ve already met Laban. We remember after Sarah died that Abraham sent his servant to go back to the family and the family region and find a wife for Isaac which is how we met Rebecca and Rebecca’s brother, Laban. So, now Rebecca has Jacob and Esau. So, Laban is Jacob’s uncle and she’s telling her son Jacob to go to his uncle to avoid being killed by his brother Esau. So, it’s obviously a pretty stressful time as we go forward, we will follow Jacob all the way to the land of Rebecca’s family and back to Laban where Jacob has some trickery of his own to deal with and we’ll see that in the coming days.

Now, in the book of Matthew today we see a fundamental thing that Jesus gets accused of, later on it will be this accusation that Jesus will be convicted of which will justify, in the mind of the Jewish religious leaders, the execution of Jesus. So, as the story goes Jesus returns by boat to the Northwest shores of the Sea of Galilee which is where the vast majority of his ministry took place and to Capernaum, which was his adult hometown during his ministry. Some men brought a paralyzed man carrying him on a stretcher to Jesus and Jesus said, have courage son, your sins are forgiven, and for the religious leaders hearing this, that is a big problem. In their religious tradition and understanding, only God can forgive sins. So, for Jesus to tell this paralyzed man that his sins are forgiven, that is Jesus elevating himself to the place of God. In the Hebrew tradition elevating anything to the status of God that is not God is blasphemy. Jesus can see what’s going on and so He’s like a what’s easier for me to say your sins are forgiven or get up and walk and to demonstrate his authority He tells the guy get up, pick up your stretcher, go home. And then, according to Matthew and I quote “when the crowds saw this, they were awestruck and gave glory to God who had given such authority to men” and that pretty much describes the tension. The religious leaders watching this look at Jesus and say this is clearly a human being, this is clearly a man who is claiming to forgive sins, that’s blasphemy. But then the person is healed. This paralyzed man is healed, miraculously. So, there’s only two ways this can work one: Jesus is a fraud and a blasphemer who somehow through miracle or trickery has made it appear that this person has been healed or this person has actually been healed. So, if he’s a blasphemer, where did this power and authority come from? On the other hand, the alternative is to believe that Jesus in fact does have the authority to forgive sins and he is not blaspheming because he is God and has every right to elevate himself to the authority that he already has. Most of the religious leaders stuck with the first story, Jesus is a blasphemer but where does he get his power and we’ll see as we continue forward that they begin to say Jesus gets His power because He’s clearly a blasphemer, He gets his power from the devil, which ironically is actually blasphemy because they are attributing to the evil one, the power to heal, through Jesus, who is God. This is in no way the last time we’re gonna see this kind of exchange or this kind of accusation. So, for us to be aware, like this is really the problem, this is really the rift. There are also other things going on like envy and jealousy and fear of the Romans, all kinds of stuff are going on, but really, really gets the religious establishment hard against Jesus is their assertion that he is a blasphemer. Knowing that will help us understand the tension as we continue forward.

Prayer:

So, father, we thank You yet again as we will continue to do repetitively, we thank You for Your word, we thank You for the Scriptures, we thank You for each other, we thank You that we live in a time where there is a technology like this where we can, no matter where we are on this planet, we can come together in community and feast on the Scriptures, we thank You for what You have begun to reveal to us. We anticipate all that You have to reveal to us through the Scriptures this year and with open hearts we worship You, we adore You, we love You, we humble ourselves before You and I pray these things in the name of Jesus. Amen.

dailyaudiobible.com that is home base, that’s a, yeah, that the website, that’s where you find what’s going on around here. You can also do that using the Daily Audio Bible app, which is available free from whatever app store you get your applications at, so check that out. Check out the Community section, either in the app or on the web. The Community section has different links for where to get connected in any way that you want to or can but it is also the home of the Prayer Wall and the Prayer Wall is always available, always on, never off, always being used. If it’s the middle of the night and you can’t sleep in the anxiety has your stomach twisting in knots and you’re tossing and you’re turning and you’re getting up to use the bathroom and get a glass of water and then trying to lay back down and see if you can’t get enough hours to get you through the next day. If you can’t sleep, there’s a place to go and just share a little bit of your story and ask your brothers and sisters around the world to pray for you and they will. Or maybe it’s the right time when we’re feeling that way to get our mind a little bit off of some of the pressures and challenges that we’re facing and face outward and begin to realize we’re not the only one struggling, everybody is struggling in some sort of way. We just curate our lives on social media and in public to make it look like we’re killing it, we’re doing great. It’s awesome, everything is perfect and everybody faces challenge, everybody has struggles and the Prayer Wall is a place of solidarity really, it’s a place to realize yeah, I’m going through stuff but I’m not the only one going through stuff and to reach out in prayer for one another and be that word of grace or love, or compassion, or simple prayer to somebody else in their trials, well that’s like the body of Christ and that is something that we do very well here. So, be familiar with the Prayer Wall and use it.

Prayer and Encouragements:

Hey DABers, it’s Kira Contrite Spirit and I’m excited today, listening to the reading about Sarah and Abraham. I have, I can, I can relate to this story, it’s touched me in a different way. It’s quite, my situation is different. In my life there was another woman when I was pregnant with my son, Nish, his dad got together with another woman and they had a baby six month after mine, after hours so he has a brother that six months younger. And I was crushed, we had been together five years and it was our child, our first child. And I had basically given my heart to him, we had not been married but I was so devastated. And then led me into a life of lust and looking and searching. We tried even, I didn’t know what to do, I was so young so we lived together and it was horrible, the jealousy and we all lived, it was a like two wife situation. It was incredibly, incredibly difficult. And when my son was 4, I left, I took off. I took him away from his dad and from the family, from his siblings. The other women had another child by then and it, so. And it just led to a life of gosh, sin and destruction and drugs. And now my son is in this situation that he’s in. But I’m holding on to the promise that God gives us for abundant lives. And it just gives me hope. Thank you.

Hey family, this is Demetri calling from Portland, Oregon. Happy New Year to everybody and wanted to just call and just welcome all of our new listeners. This is my six or seventh, seventh year going through the Bible and it’s a amazing experience every single time. For those who are just starting I just encourage you to stay through and not give up. You will be changed; you will be thankful for this experience and if you’re amongst some of us are a every year listener you will not regret it. It’s changed my life in many ways and I wouldn’t be where I’m at without it. So, thank you Brian for this amazing platform. Just wanted to also call in, this year, I have a feeling this year is gonna be amazing. I’ve called in the past and asked you guys to pray for my marriage and my ex-wife. And I feel, I feel very good about this year. I feel like, God has plans for restoration or something along those lines so I’m continuing to pray for that. I think God has something amazing in store for us this year in many different ways. So, I’m looking forward to seeing what that is. Just asking the whole family to pray, pray for my ex-wife, for her, for God to reveal Himself to her and show her who He is the way He has done to me and I’ll be looking forward to sharing more of my experience and what’s been going on until then. Thank you, guys, God Bless. Thank you everybody for praying, I listen every day and praying for everybody as well. God Bless and have a great day. Bye.

Greetings, Daily Audio Bible family this is Drew from Southern California. I got a praise report to offer up one that involves prayer and God’s word and it actually interestingly, coincides with today’s reading. My wife came down with a very severe case of stress and it was triggered by some financial circumstances that we’ve encountered and it caused her to be in a great state of worry. Actually, she was in a worried state prior to this, but it just escalated as a result, she had deprived herself of sleep and nourishment and eating and things like that. And it really got into an exceptionally bad state as you can imagine. We were in prayer. We had a lot of prayer warriors praying on her behalf, and she has been miraculously restored and I think that is a testament to faithfulness to prayer, principally and to our God in heaven, but I just wanted to recount the phrase that we read in Matthew chapter 6 and verse 25 therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life with worry, what you will eat or what you will drink or about your body and what you will put on. It was fascinating to me that she was excessively worried about eating and what she was going to wear and that was an incredible intersection with what God has told us not to do so thank you again everyone who has helped me in prayer. And I just offer this as encouragement that we could conform our lives to God’s will and it goes well. Blessings everyone. Bye.

Hi Daily Audio Bible family. This is Lindsay in Minnesota. I apologize, I’m out on a walk so I might sound a little out of breath. But I am a few days behind so it’s January 8th and I just finished listening to the January 5th segment and I really had it on my heart to call in and just let Bongere from India know that I hear you and I am right there with you and I am praying for you. I know what it’s like to feel alone and to feel depressed and to wonder if your life is really worth living. But I just want to tell you that it is and that you are so loved and that Jesus values your life. He loves you as a son and you have a purpose here. And so, I’m just lifting you up in prayer today that you would feel comforted, that you would feel loved and that you would feel re-energized. In Jesus name. Amen.

Genesis 24:52-26:16, Matthew 8:18-34, Psalms 10:1-15, Proverbs 3:7-8

Today is the 11th day of the month of January welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian it is a great to be here with you today around the Global Campfire that is the community here. What a blessing that it is that we have this space, this serene calm place to enter into every day together and just relax and let the Scriptures come alive in our hearts. And, so, let’s dive in. We’re reading from the Christian Standard Bible this week, picking up where we left off yesterday. Genesis chapter 24 verse 52 through 26 verse 16 today. And by way of reminder, we are moving into the second generation. A wife for the son of promise, Isaac is being searched for, and Rebekah has been found. But does she want to leave her homeland and go marry Isaac in a land far away. Let’s continue the journey.

Commentary:

Okay. So, we have met Abram whose name became Abraham. We know this. We’ve been following and tracking that story. Today we reach the conclusion of Abraham’s life. He lived to be 175 years old according to the Scriptures. And although his life and story have come to an end in this narrative, the book of Genesis, Abraham effects the world until this day. For example, Hebrews, the Jewish people. Those who are practicing Judaism that, we who are Christians and those who practice Islam all claim an allegiance to this guy, Abraham. And although we’ve reached the end of the narrative story of his life we’re gonna hear about Abraham through the rest of the Bible. We know that the son of promise that Abraham and Sarah had was named Isaac and we’ve been traveling through that story. Now Isaac has a wife. Her name is Rebekah and they have subsequently had twin boys, Esau and Jacob. And very quickly in the narrative, they’re grown men. Esau is a hunter and an outdoorsman, and Jacob sticks more close to home. And the Bible basically tell is Esau is kinda the favorite of his dad Isaac because he’s kind of a man’s man, whereas Rebekah loves Jacob, more of a mama’s boy. And that’s actually going to factor in as we continue the journey as we read what we read today. And we see that Isaac and Rebekah, their family has settled near a place called Gerar. And that place exists as old as it is. It has been identified by archaeologists. I’ve walked that place. It’s…it’s really never been excavated into kind of a place you can visit and make some sense of, but there are ancient ruins just sitting there and it’s still a place where shepherds care for their sheep. But it’s pretty interesting that when Isaac gets there, he meets King Abimelech and…and says that his wife Rebekah is actually not his wife, she’s his sister. It’s not until Abimelech sees Isaac caressing his wife Rebekah that it comes out that she’s married Isaac. And when Isaacs pressed on why he lied like that he said he was afraid for his life. The interesting thing is that his dad did the same thing in the same city to the same king. So, there is a little bit of trickery in the family line and that also comes into play as the story goes forward.

And then we flip over into the book of Proverbs and once again two sentences give us an orientation and context for how to live. “Don’t be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and turn away from evil.” So, that…those…those are the instructions. And we could say, yeah that's…to some degree that's…that’s wisdom that is known. We know we’re supposed to turn away from evil. We know wer’e supposed to fear the Lord. It’s not a matter of whether or not we know or understand this, it’s a matter of whether or not we pay attention and are aware and live into this. But those are the instructions. And then the next sentence sort of incentivizes the behavior. We get to see what the promised outcome of living this way will be. So, let’s read this whole thing again. “Don’t be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and turn away from evil. This will be healing for your body and strengthening for your bones.” If the Bible is telling us the truth, and I believe it is, then this is something that we should know. There is a reason to live this way. And, so, let’s meditate on that as we move through our day.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word. Every day it comes washing into our lives. Every day there is something we need to know. Every day there is something for us to be planted into our hearts. And, so, Holy Spirit come and do just that. Plant this in the soil of our hearts. We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Check out the Daily Audio Bible Shop. In the Daily Audio Bible Shop you’ll find our Windfarm coffee and tea. And, so, here’s the deal. I am a bit…a bit…a novice coffee snob and I am also a tea drinker and it wasn’t too long in my Daily Audio Bible journey of showing up every morning, every single day behind the microphone preparing and reading the Scriptures that I realized, yeah, my morning coffee is a part of this story every single day. And I love coffee. And I love all the different ways of roasting coffee. All of this kind of stuff. It’s been well over a decade now that we began roasting our own coffee varietals and importing our own boutique teas because when we’re looking for something for the community here it’s something that will take this journey this relationship with the Scriptures further. And it might be like…well…coffee doesn’t exactly feed my spirituality. And I could say that too but I could also say but it is a part of my every day routine. It is a part of the rhythm, and it is associated with the Scriptures because it’s something that I do with the Scriptures every day. I mean, just to my left here is my cup of coffee. And so, we just started thinking, what if we could roast fresher? What if we could ship quicker? What if we could bring a really superior experience to something that people do every day anyway and then tie that to the rhythm that we have each and every day step-by-step day by day through the Scriptures. And, so, Windfarm coffee and tea was born, which is something that you can find in the Daily Audio Bible Shop. We even have a coffee and tea club. We roast coffee fresh, import the tea and send it out to everyone who has subscribed to it. As much coffee as you want, whether it’s a bag or several bags for the month. We ship it out once per month at the end of the month fresh roasted so that it arrives fresh and ready to go to you. And we just thought, what if we can make something superior, but something that everybody is likely to participate in on a daily basis anyway? And So often we’re going through drive throughs getting our five dollar cups of coffee a day. What if…what if we could bring something better and what if that little bit of margin could just be a little bit of help to keeping the servers spinning every day, keeping the lights on every day. And, so, Windfarm was born. And Windfarm, I think it’s still a cool name. But it’s a name that comes from the book of Ezekiel actually. The prophet Ezekiel…there’s a story in that book. We’ll get to it obviously before this year’s over. But he’s looking out over a valley of dry bones, a battle had happened there. And, so, the carcasses, the bodies had just been left there where they fell, and they had become skeletons. And God asked the prophet if they could live again. And Ezekiel said only the Lord would know something like that. And then the Lord instructed the prophet Ezekiel to call to the four winds, the breath of life, and he called to the four winds, the breath of life, and an army came back from the dead. It’s one of my…one of my favorite Bible stories. But then I realized we are constantly calling out to God. We may not be calling out to the four winds, but we are constantly calling to God on behalf of one another. We are constantly rejoicing in the Lord for what He is doing and what He has yet to do in our lives. And I just started thinking, what if that prayer is like a spiritual windfarm. We are constantly calling life into places that need life. And, so, that’s how our Windfarm coffee and tea was born. And you can…you can find it all the different varieties or have it shipped to you every month, just go into the Daily Audio Bible Shop and look for coffee and tea and you’ll find it there.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hi, I’m Angie from Texas. I’m new to the DAB family and even though I’ve been a Christian since I was 16 years old, I’m 51, just recently my faith has changed into something deeper and more connected to the Lord. Has…something has shifted and changed. My son was…my son is 32 years old and on December…mid-December he was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. He’s had surgery, had most of his colon removed and he’s going to go on, once he heals, onto chemo. He was given a certain amount of time, but I know, we know that he will be healed. I ask the community to pray for him.

Hello this is Paul from Wales happy new year. Wonderful to have done another year with you all as a family. My real message is for the man that I’ve run over the past few days and the prayers have been short…shared. There’s no excuse for abusing your family. It’s been on my heart. I’ve wrestled with it for the past couple of days, that a man ringing up with suicidal thoughts and depression and asking for prayer. And how do we be real and how do we speak in love? So, I turn to the scriptures. Be watchful, stand firm in the faith. Act like men. Be strong. Let all that you do be done in love. 1 Corinthians 13. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. 1 Timothy 5. But if any one does not provide for his relatives and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. 1 Timothy 4. Let no one despise you for your youth but set the believers as an example in speech and conduct and love and faith and purity. I’m not a perfect man, far from it. I lost my temper New Year’s Eve. My daughter recently lost a baby. And I let things get on top of me and I shouted. And I screamed in an empty house. But we’re called to be men and men of faith and we’re…we’re called to act like men and do everything that we can in love. We will make mistakes, but brothers join me this year in pursuing Jesus heart.

Hi, this message is for the caller who called in on December 9th talking about how you had placed your mother in a memory support facility. I’m sorry. I know that I played…prayed for you right before and I just cannot recall you guy’s name. This is Reba the nurse from Nebraska. I work at a Mary memory support facility and I also, I too had to place my father in the very facility that I am now working at because I had been up for 36 hours straight as he went into delirium and then after that we just never could get back him back to baseline. So, let me just pray for you and just pray for the facility and pay for the people that are taking care of your mom and pray for your mom. Heavenly Father I just thank You and praise You so much for just Your hand upon us and our choices that with the infinite possibilities of what we can do - time and skills and things given to us Father. You work Your will for those who love You and who serve You. Father I just pray for this gal. I pray for her mother. I ask that You just bless her with caregivers who are…just who will walk with her as her mind changes. Father I just pray for her that You would give her the stability that she needs, that she would have good health Father, that she would have no falls, that she would just in the in the essence of dementia Father live the fullest life that she can in this facility Father. I pray for the caregivers. I ask that You give them insight. I ask that You give them guidance. I ask You give them knowledge to care for her both in mind body. And Father what we know…

Hello Eleanor, this is Greg from Bothell WA and I heard you on January 3rd asking for prayer. Eleanor you are a child of God, you’re a Princess in the Kingdom of God and you have no reason to believe that God can’t make you, sanctify you and make you holy and help you take those thoughts captive to His obedience. Just press into Him. I love you and I want you to know that none of us are good parents in ourselves. None of us are good people in ourselves, that Lord Jesus is the one that allows us to step into those roles that we need to be in. I want to encourage you to keep listening and keep praying for others and we will be praying for you. I’ll be praying for you. Lord Jesus I just pray for Eleanor right now that she would…she would feel Your comfort and presence in her life, that she would know that You have her, and that in Your care and her children in Your care. I rebuke in the name of Jesus the spirit of suicide and I cover her in the blood of Jesus, that no weapon formed against her will prosper but that she will see her glory in her life start to manifest in new in mighty ways and Jesus’ name. I love you, Eleanor. It’s OK to be afraid sometimes. But fear your Lord Jesus and not those other things that come to your mind. Cast those on Him and He will care for you. He’ll take care of you and your children. Amen.
