Isaiah 30:12-33:9, Galatians 5:1-12, Psalms 63:1-11, Proverbs 23:22

Today is the 19th day of September welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I’m Brian it’s wonderful to be here with you today as we find our places around the Global Campfire together and relax for a few minutes, just tune our attention to the Scriptures allow them to speak to us and then move back into our day. And, so, it’s wonderful that we have this little place every day. And I am profoundly grateful to be here with you today for the next step forward. And that next step leads us back into the book of Isaiah…Isaiah…to Isaiah, and that today we’ll read chapters chapter…maybe I should just start this whole thing over. Maybe I’m gonna make all kinds of mistakes in the reading today. I don’t know. Seems like my tongue is tied. Isaiah chapter 30 verse 12 through 33 verse 9 today. Maybe I just need to slow down and pay attention to what I’m saying. So, here we go. Isaiah.

Commentary:

Okay. Let’s think about it for a second. Would you prefer to walk a path that leads to quiet confidence and strength, or would you prefer to be running and chased and hunted down? Because that is the crossroads sort of the paths that we are presented in the book of Isaiah today. And again, we’re moving through a prophetic book, the book of Isaiah. And many scholars believe there are multiple voices in the book of Isaiah, and that this is a collection. Other people think it’s, you know, from one person named Isaiah. Nevertheless, it’s not linear narrative form its utterances spoken on behalf of God at different times through this time period. And, so, without really exhaustively going into it and really connecting the time period to this particular Oracle from God, etc. etc. it’s really easy for us to get lost just trying to read it in a narrative form because it feels like it’s jumping all over the place because it is. And even though it is jumping all over the place there’s still an arc. There’s this kind of woe and doom and then the ark shifts to hope, and restoration and we got to experience some of that shift today. And, so, in Isaiah we read, “you will be delivered by returning and resting. Your strength will lie in quiet confidence.” So, that is a path we can walk and choose, but there is an alternative path to that. And we continue on in Isaiah. “You say no. We will escape on horses, we will ride on fast horses, but those who pursue you will be faster.” So, we have two paths here. If we want to walk the path of quiet strength then we are told, basically look return to God, calm down from being overwhelmed and find rest and in that rest we will find our strength. That sounds awesome. That sounds like the life we are wanting to live. And here’s the recipe. Calm down, return to God, find rest, and in that rest find your strength. The other chaotic path that is put before us today leaves us running and running and running while we’re being chased down by something that is faster than we are. That may sound awfully familiar. That’s how it feels a lot of the time. We’re running and running to outpace whatever is going to catch up to us, but it's…it’s gaining. If we want to stay on that path we’re allowed to stay on that path and we’re allowed to feel overwhelmed as if we’re doing nothing but falling further and further behind. In fact, Isaiah describes that feeling. “1000 will flee at the threat of one. At the threat of five you will flee until you remain like a solitary pole on a mountaintop or a banner on a hill.” That’s a lonely picture. Up on arise there’s a flagpole stuck in the ground with a torn banner waving in the wind. The only evidence of anyone ever being there. Solitary. Alone. That’s where the path leads when we try to do things in our own strength by our own effort. This is where the road leads; however, we’re also given a vivid picture of what it might look like to be on the path that seeks quiet confidence and strength in God. And I quote from Isaiah. “And whenever you turn to the right or to the left your ears will hear this command behind you, this is the way, walk in it. Then you will defile your silver-plated idols in your gold-plated images. You will throw them away like menstrual cloths and call them filth”, right? So, it’s like our eyes open up, and we realize that we have been chasing after idols. We have put our trust and faith in ourselves and in things that we believe will either bring us life or security only to find out that we’re just running and running and running trying to accomplish security and arrange for life and its fleeting and we end up feeling like we’re running as fast as we can, and everything is catching up with us. Isaiah’s says when we look at that scenario, and our eyes are opened to the alternative path of quiet strength our eyes will be opened and we will see things for what they are and will consider our own way of doing things, like used menstrual objects. The apostle Paul uses the same kind of analogy of his awakening and that all of the effort that he had put into his religious upbringing he considered as filthy rags as well. So, we’ve been given two different pictures of two different paths. Which path do we want to walk? Are we on the path that we want to walk? And assuming that we would like to walk the path of quiet strength and confidence, if we’re not on that path, then we need to return to God and calm down. Some things to give attention to today as we move through.

Prayer:

Father, we invite You into that. What path in these examples today from Isaiah, what are…what path are we walking on? Where is this road going? Is…are we on the path that leads us to quiet confidence and strength or are we on the path that leads us to a lonely flagpole all by itself on a forgotten Hill. Holy Spirit reveal this to us and show us the way that we should go. And as the book of Isaiah says, may we hear You behind us saying, “this is the way walk in it.” And may we obey You, we pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

There’s never a time that we can’t reach out and share what’s going on. But that also means there’s never a time that we can’t go and pray. So, like sleepless nights, early mornings, lunch breaks, the times that we’re feeling really really low, and we need to turn our focus and our attention outward and on to somebody else instead of like kind of swirling in the…the vortex that is our problems…are our problems. It helps to turn outward. It helps to understand that everybody’s going through something and sometimes we can’t go through it alone and sometimes we need each other to kind of lift one another up, carry each other for the little space in front of us and help…help each other get down the road together. Community Prayer and Praise:

Hi Daily Audio Bible family I just want to get on here and say I really just need some prayers. Pray for C. My husband has cheated on me and abused me to where I think that it’s normal. Like my brain is thinking that it’s normal and I keep going back to him. I fear that I’m stuck in a spiritual bondage with him, and I just need Jesus to set me free. I just…he has cheated on me and hurt me in ways that I can’t describe and I just…I really need God to help me financially and I don’t know what my future holds ahead of…but I just need to get out of this this…this…this marriage where it’s just hurting me so bad inside. Also, I pray for my children. Please because they need me and I’m going through a court battle and there are some people that are not nice and I’m also praying for them so that I may be able to spend more time with my children. Please and thank you.

Hey DAB fam, Chris in the Bay Area here just wanted to lift up the NICU nurse and the abandoned baby girl. Dear father we lift up this family, this family that loves you very much, this…this family that desires to honor you Jesus. We just lift up this process of them adopting this…this baby girl. We just ask that all…that You would banish all forces of darkness working against this girl, that your favor would be bestowed on them, that they would just…everything would just work out where they could adopt this girl Jesus. We thank you for being able to petition this in your name. In your precious name Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

Good morning DAB family this is Zach from Phoenix reaching out today to ask you to pray for me. I’ve been feeling overwhelmed and beat down and hopeless and helpless these past few months. I’m going to ask you to pray for a situation with my mom. She’s not doing well physically, mentally and it’s requiring me and my brother and family to make some hard decisions and we know that she’s not going to be open or she’s not…she may fight what is best for her. So please pray that He can give me wisdom and guidance on how to address the situation with my mom this next week. Also just pray for me because I feel lonely and just broken hearted over my life situations, over being alone. And, so, I would also ask you to pray for that because I feel like…well I know the truth…I feel like the father who comes to Jesus and says Lord I believe but help me with my unbelief. And that’s where I’m living right now because I know the truth, but I don’t believe the truth. So, I ask that you would ask God to encourage me and to walk alongside me and to give me the faith that is needed to trust Him in these circumstances and situations. Have a good day. Bye.

Hello DAB family this is Brian and Chris from __ Pennsylvania. I’d like to lift up my brother in the Lord Scott who’s having surgery tomorrow and for his family and for his wife Kathy as they have many decisions to make regarding property. I also would like to pray for my son Jarod as he is trying to fix up a house, a second apartment to rent out and it’s just getting to be crunch time. Also lift up my lovely wife Kris who is almost totally recovered from COVID. And if you keep me in your prayers, please. I am struggling with breathing four weeks after contacting COVID and it’s not getting any easier, but I am back to work. I’m still testing positive but one day at a time as my lovely wife would say. Thank you, Brian and your family this is my first time I’ve called in. I do pray often for people that have left prayers and I just want to thank God for this wonderful ministry. Blessings to all.

Hey there DAB family I’ve been listening for a long time this is Holly Hot Mess from Washington. Paul your prayer for anxiety, people that struggle with anxiety, I felt like you were calling out to me. Today was really hard. I just had such a hard time getting my mind so stop racing and to calm down and to not be so nervous and upset for multiple different reasons. I’m almost 30, I work full time, I am in ministry beside my business and dealing with conflicts and I have my own health and my husband’s health and this weight, and I felt like I was gonna break, snap and this is not the first time I deal with heavy anxiety and panic. So, Paul thank you. So thankful the Lord put that in front of me. I needed that. So, shout out today and I was reading Psalm 91 and I just really felt His peace and I’m just so thankful. And just lifting up all those that deal with anxiety. You’re not alone. And you can get through this, and you’ve got a big guard with big shoulders. Thank you this is Holly Hot Mess from Washington. Love you guys.

Isaiah 28:14-30:11, Galatians 3:23-4:31, Psalm 62:1-12, Proverbs 23:19-21

Today is the 18th day of September, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian, it is wonderful to be here with you today, as we gather around the Global Campfire and greet a brand-new, shiny, sparkly week together. And I guess, probably 50/52 times, I recognize that we get to a new week and remind us, it’s out in front of us. This is that reset, it’s out in front of us. Many things may carry over from the previous week but how we deal with them in this week, is up to us. We get to make all the choices, we get to say all the words, we get to think all the thoughts. Thankfully we have the Scriptures here each and every day around this Global Campfire to inform those things and to lead and guide and direct and transform and shape us. So, brand-new week, throwing open the door, walking through it together and diving in. This week, we will read from the Christian Standard Bible. And picking up where we left off yesterday, will lead us back into the book of Isaiah, today, chapter 28 verse 14 through 30 verse 11.

Prayer:

Thank You, Father, for the Scriptures. Thank You, Father, for each other. Thank You, Lord, for allowing the Scriptures to wash over each and every one of us, into our stories, into our lives, into our plans. We are deeply grateful. Thank You for bringing us into this brand-new, shiny week. Father, we consecrate this week to You, we are here to be a living sacrifices available to You. So often, we are inviting You into our story and our agenda, asking You to make things happen for us that we are planning and we rarely come to You and say, what is Your plan for me for the day. May we live this week available to You. What is your plan for us this week? Rather than, what is our plan for You this week. Help us make that shift of orientation, which changes everything. We pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Prayer and Encouragements:

Lisa the Encourager, this is God’s Life Speaker. You are an encourager and, there were so many times I wanted to call in and just ask how you were but I didn’t want to hear the news that you gave us. I’m sure there were others like me that just recognized the void of your voice, but knew why you weren’t on this podcast and what a gift God gave you to be there, with your mom during this past time of her last days and to be there when she finally was in the arms of Jesus. So, thank you for encouraging us with hearing that your mom is now in the presence of Jesus. And thought that is wonderful for her, it kind of is wonderful for us to know but we just are such greedy people. We want our loved ones here with us. So, Lord, would You just be the encourager to our Encourager, Lisa. Lift her up, may her eyes look up to the mountains where her help can come from me. May she just praise You and recognize that when she is praising You and singing and worshiping You, that she’s right there with her mom, who gets to do it all the time. That we get to enter into that time of worship with those who are doing it full-time. So, Lord just surround her with other strong believers, surround her with the time of reflection and just knowing that in Your presence all is good. And we ask it in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Hi, this Pure Heart, from Tennessee. And I was just calling to pray for Lisa the Encourager. Hearing your message, knowing that you just lost your mom and still grieving, you still took the time out to encourage. So, yeah that’s an amazing gift from God, I’m sure. But I just wanted to do a little quick prayer for you. Father God, I just thank You for Lisa this morning. And I thank You that as she goes through her grief process, that she’ll know that You’re there with her. That You’re there to comfort her, keep her, to love her in the midnight hours. Father God, I just pray that you’ll continue to use that gift of encouragement to bless others through her and people may see the love of God in her and just be blessed. In Jesus name.

Hello, everybody. It’s God’s Smile here, I’m Peter. The nights are drawing aren’t they Peter? They are yes, middle of September, we don’t like this do we. October is coming and the clocks change, oh dear, dear, dear. But hey, be encouraged because Christmas is coming. Peter, go away with you, shu. I got a letter from Clarence Daniels and he wants to be remembered and he’s sends his love to the DAB family. And Bridge to Bride, I’d like to say hello to you too and I hope you got my little coloring I sent via Clarence’s letter. You should have it by now. If not, you’ve got something coming for you, lad. So, we’d like to pray for them all, wouldn’t we. We’d like to pray for the boys and we hope that Ellis is back in the fold very soon. And they can resume their studies all together and be a blessing to one another. Go on Peter, you take the prayer. Father, we do thank You that these guys, albeit in prison, incarcerated, do have the opportunity to be able to listen to the DAB by whatever means they’ve been given. And we thank You for that, we bless You Lord. And we pray that You would keep it going, keep them encouraged, build them up Lord. Give them strength for each new day. We thank You for their lives, Lord, and their contributions to the DAB. Father, would You anoint them, would you anoint them to reach out and touch the other men they’re sharing lives with. Would You give a wedding season, would You still hearts and minds, would You break down divisions. And times ticking away again, it goes to quick for us Peter. It does, well you speak too much. Ha ha. So, it’s kiss kiss from me and kiss kiss from me. Bye Bye, say goodbye Peter. Bye bye Peter. We have just done that, haven’t we.

Good morning, my daily DABers. This is Cecile from beautiful South Florida. I’m calling to answer a prayer request from a brother who called yesterday on the 12th, his name is Isaac from Sichuan, Canada. I think I got that right. Brother, another beautiful day and another blessed opportunity to be a vessel, to serve God, love God, to be Christ-like and to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Acknowledging that we do have the Spirit of God inside of us and that we’re not put in this world to dwell on pain or sorrows or to rejoice. Rejoice according or regarding to any circumstance. Rejoice in the house of the Lord. The house of the Lord is in your heart. And I’m here to pray for you today. I to once passed through that. Brother, you asked to pray for whatever it is that is in our heart or whatever it is that you have prayed for in your request. And I wanted to pray for the whole you, brother. God, Holy Spirit, Heavenly Father, Savior, Lord Jesus Christ, angels of heaven will take these prayers unto God’s presence. I’m calling today to pray for a brother who’s name is Isaac, he’s from Sichuan, Canada. You know his heart Lord. He needs your direction, he needs your wisdom. Holy Spirit, I pray that this moment You activate Yourself for our brother Isaac life. I ask for direction on his heart. I ask for discernment which is what David asked You, Lord. Discernment and understanding, Father. That he will know when it’s You. But to acknowledge that even those situations that it may seem like our trials, lets not give credit to the enemy but instead let’s ask God what He wants to teach us on the situations that we stand. Father, I ask that You give Isaac ….

Hello Daily Audio Bible family, this is People on the Water from Indiana. Calling in for two reasons, 1) to say that I love you still. Second, to call in for Isaac from Sichuan. Father God, I come to You in the day of Your son, Jesus Christ, through the power of Your Holy Spirit. I pray for Your son, my brother, Isaac. Give him confidence that he needs to speak his mind clearly. Whether that is through his sessions with a counselor, whether that is in a journal, or in a conversation with his friends. Which is what prayer is. I pray against any nerves, anything of the enemy, and right now for my brother I keep only the bond of peace. Father, I believe in You and I believe You will do wonderous works in Your sons life. Bless him abundantly but may he not bless himself. Watered down blessings with money. May he blessed in Your presence. In Your name, and the confirmation of Your son, by the power of the Holy Spirit and the innerworkings of his mind. Amen.

Amen.

Isaiah 25:1-28:13, Galatians 3:10-22, Psalms 61:1-8, Proverbs 23:17-18

Today is the 17th day of September welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I’m Brian and it is wonderful to be here with you today as we gather and come in out of whatever is going on and set it aside and focus our attention on the Scriptures, focus our affections upon the Lord, and let it all go as we bring to a close another one of our weeks together. What a journey we have been on this year. It’s been incredible and we’ve got plenty out in front of us that’s incredible. And, so, let’s take the next step forward. We’ve been reading from the New International Version this week. We’ll do that today. And we are working our way through the book of Isaiah in the Old Testament. Today, Isaiah chapter 25 verse 1 through 28 verse 13.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word. We thank You for bringing us through another one of the weeks that we get to spend in this year each and every day step-by-step moving through the Scriptures together and we thank You for this opportunity to go from the very first word to the very last word of the Bible together and to wrestle with and reflect upon and allow it to transform and shift us as Your Holy Spirit leads us into all truth which we ask for and will continue to ask for regularly, because there isn’t a moment we don’t need to be led into all truth. And we realize that we can fall for any kinds of deceptions at any point in time if we are not paying attention. So, lead us we pray. And we thank You for what we find in the Proverbs today. Surely there is a future hope for You and Your hope will not be cut off. You are that hope Lord. You are the future hope that will not be cut off. You are the present hope that we live in in this moment. Our hope is in You. We are utterly dependent upon You. So, some Holy Spirit, lead us and guide us, direct us as we humble ourselves before You and submit ourselves, every thought, word and deed to Your will. We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

My dear brothers and sisters I wish you good morning from the UK. It’s Mike from Buckinghamshire. I was listening to the Daily Audio Bible for the 13th, and I heard Isaac’s call from Saskatchewan in Canada and I just wanted to say Isaac I do feel for you my dear friend my brother in Christ but you need to start looking after yourself as well and you need to take some time out from your daily routine and go and have some fun. Take your family, your brothers and sisters, all, whoever you’ve got in your life and just get away for a few days. Go and do something completely different. Spend some time in the wild. Take some long prayer walks. Have some nice food. Spend time with people you love. And remember we’re all praying for you here. We’re all human beings we all get tired. It’s not easy but God is on your side and your brothers and sisters many many miles away are praying and thinking of you. So, my dear friend Isaac be good to yourself be good to your family. Take some time out, spend some time with the Lord, listen to some Christian music. Have a break have some rest have some days off. Come back refreshed. Thinking of you Isaac and praying for you in Jesus’ name. All my brothers and sisters God bless you all. Pray for you today in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Hello family my name is Steven I just want to call in quickly. Was recently invited to a healthcare roundtable from an organization that wanted to know what additional healthcare services we needed in our community. And as we went around the table the majority of the people there were much younger than I am, and I was struck by how many people requested that there be more mental health services available for children from three or four years old up to eighteen. All sorts of problems – pornography, drugs, social media, rebellion in the home. And I was just amazed by how many people were facing these problems with young people. And I just wanted to call in and ask for everyone to pray especially for our young people. So many are growing up without any spiritual training or education at all and it’s so deeply concerning to know that soon I’ll be leaving this world of the dying and I’ll be going to the world of living but when I leave, I fear for those coming up behind me and what is their training going to be? What is there live going to be? So, pray for our young people our children and the parents that are dealing with this very relevant issue. Thank you all and…and praise the Lord. Thank you.

Hi this is Paul from Wales. I’m out running and I’m listening to the prayers after Daily Audio Bible I think it’s the 13th it’s late here in Wales it’s dark and I’m doing it ‘cause I’m fighting my addictions. And a lady joined in another lady about alcohol. Mine is smoking and vaping and I’m trying to fight my way back to fitness and all that kind of stuff. But I just want to put a quick prayer out. Lord reveal too the eyes of fathers and mothers the impact they have on their children, the responsibility they have being gifted by you to raise children in the Christian home and if You _ Father __ be it for You that you will open their eyes to their addictions and their problems and fill it and replace it with something else in your service in Jesus’ heavenly name. Paul from Wales. Why Follow Jesus 365. Take care all.

This message is for the sweet Mama of the two little kids that called in on September 13th on the prayer…at the end of the message she left…was the last prayer but she didn’t leave her name. Oh my dear. It’s Eyes of a Dove. I am a mom of three kids. For the last decade having joined a construction company and provide for my children and get up really early and sometimes we had to move locations, three times. Finally bought our own house. God provided a house for us after all this time bless the Lord. But man, I know your struggle. Oh, you have my heart young lady and your children. And God is providing and opening doors for you and it’s going to be OK. If this job is gonna have more income for you and you feel the Lord pushing you that way, don’t fear it’s not more traumatic because they have you, you’re their home. No matter where they go to school or what location they have you and if this is going to provide for them better financially then that’s the right move momma. Father God, I ask that You would do for her what You did for me. Surround this momma and help her not feel fear or anxiety or brokenness over the baby’s father making the bad choices and not being there for them. And she’s having to be the sole breadwinner and provider for these children. And You didn’t design her to do that You designed her to be the care provider but yet she’s standing up and she’s doing both roles. Be there for her Lord God. Provide resources and family and friends to hold her arms up in this battle. I love you friend. Call back again. Let us know how you’re doing.

Isaiah 22:1-24:23, Galatians 2:17-3:9, Psalm 60:1-12, Proverbs 23:15-16

Today is the 16th day of September, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian and here we are, in the middle of another one of our months, seems like we get to a brand-new, shiny, sparkly month, we step into it, we take a few days to move into it and all the sudden we’re halfway through it. And so, here we are, crossing through the center of another month. I guess we’re a little bit past the center of another month. But here we are. And it is fantastic to be around the Global Campfire together with you today. Our next step forward leads us back into the book of Isaiah, we’re reading from the New International Version this week, and today, Isaiah chapters 22, 23 and 24.

Commentary:

Okay so, in the letter to the Galatians today, Paul is laying out what has become foundational doctrine in the Christian faith. And a lot of what we read today, should at least echo familiar, like, we kind of heard this before, even if we haven’t read the Bible before, because so much of this is in the letter to the Romans. But as we continue the Jew, Gentile controversy that existed in the early church and what Paul is saying to Jewish people, which is that you believe in Jesus the law has been fulfilled, you don’t have anything to live up to, your faith, you are justified by your faith. And an unpacking that, we find one of the most famous New Testament passages in the Bible. I have been crucified with Christ, it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives within me. And it’s no wonder that that is one of the most famous passages in the New Testament, because in one sentence it encapsulates our reality. This is a sentence that Paul uses to describe how the law is not a way to be justified before God. Rather faith is a way to be justified before God. If you’ve been crucified and you no longer live, you’re dead. And as Paul unpacked in the letter to the Romans, a person who’s dead, is not bound by any laws anymore and he used marriage as…as the illustration in the letter to the Romans. If a woman is married and she is bound by covenant by the law to her husband, if her husband dies, she is no longer bound by that covenant or law because her husband is no longer living. She is free from the law and her freedom allows her to fall in love and remarry if that’s what she should chooses to do and there will be nothing wrong with that, that wouldn’t be adultery in any sort of way. She is no longer bound to the law, her husband’s died. Paul is saying, I have been crucified with Christ, it is no longer I who live, it’s Christ who lives in me, right. So, Paul can’t live up to the law, but Paul died and is no longer bound by the law, Paul has been resurrected in a spiritual sense, and it is no longer Paul who is alive, it is Christ animating that life, and Christ has fulfilled the law. And so, that is a theological understanding, but the implications are astounding. Like, we could really spend the day or the rest of our lives thinking about the fact that, who we were, actually ended and who we are is a new creature, Christ animates our lives. So, Paul concludes that he died to the law so that he could actually live for God. Or to put it back in Paul’s own words in its context “for through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God, I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I do not set aside the grace of God for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing.” 2000 years later with believers in Jesus all over the world, this doesn’t seem controversy or subversive or anything like that. But when Paul is saying these things, they are definitely provocative at minimum and in the view of many of Paul’s fellow Pharisees heretical and worthy of death because Paul isn’t saying that the law has no purpose, and it should be burned and done away with. But he is saying that the law will not get you justified before God. This is fundamental and foundational in the Hebrew context. So, Paul is saying provocative things, at minimum, Paul invites the Galatians just to think this through. Think about it, and I quote Paul here, “I’d like to learn just one thing from you, did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by believing what you heard.” Right, so, Paul’s saying like, here’s the theological framework, but let me just ask you about your experience. He’s trying to tell them like, look, the Holy Spirit is upon you, did that that happen because you perfectly obeyed the law, or because you believed in Jesus? And this becomes important to us, actually, because even though we have freedom in Christ, and that would be understood throughout the church. We have all kinds of rules, all kinds of things that we’re trying to adhere to, and we think that if we do it well, we set ourselves up for blessing from God. That maybe our good efforts can’t save us, but there’s all kinds of stuff we should do to do this right and that’s true, like there’s nothing wrong with obeying what the Bible tells us the posture of our heart should be. But if we look into our own heart and if we just take a gander scrolling through social media, we have a lot of opinions about who’s doing it wrong, and we attach all kinds of labels to that sort of thing. When in fact we have nothing to say about anyone else. We don’t have any authority over that person’s soul, only Jesus can save them and only Jesus can save us and only the Holy Spirit can lead us into all truth. Our job is to remember who we are. We have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer we who live, it is Christ who lives with us, and we submit and humble ourselves to that reality by recognizing that we live each day as a living sacrifice to God, holy and acceptable. So, in many ways, as we read through Galatians, we’re covering territory that Paul has covered in Romans but we’re gonna continue through the letters of Paul and many of these things can be review, but there is no harm in us reviewing the fundamentals of the reality that we believe in, because if we examine our lives, we can know this to be true theologically or even intellectually, but are we living this truth? Is this how we live because it’s our reality or is it a bit of information that we agree with, but we live a totally different way? Some good things to think about today.

Prayer:

And so, Holy Spirit, we invite You into that, are we trying to obey an unwritten law, are we trying to create a law that will govern our culture, are we trying to live up to something that we could never live up to in the first place, or are we recognizing that every day we live is a day of faith and the reality that we have been made new? Are we really living like we’ve been made new? Or like the ancient Hebrew people, are we living on the law that we can never live up to? So, we will never be made new, and we will never be righteous, because really the way that we view we are, changes everything about how we live. May this sink deep, deep into our hearts, may this sink down right to where our identity lives. We are Your people. We have faith in what You are telling us. This changes our identity; may we live like it. We ask in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Prayer and Encouragements:

Good morning, DAB family. This is Joyous Janice here. It’s been a long while since I’ve called in. Thank you all who have prayed for me over the last two years since I lost my husband. I had asked prayers, that the Lord would restore my joy. And I have a praise report. He is doing it as I speak. I was praying Jeremiah 31:3-4 over myself. I have loved you with an everlasting love. Crowned you with unfailing kindness. I will build you up again and you will be rebuilt. Again, you will take up your tambourines and go out and dance with the joyful. Most recently He has restored my joy indeed and He did stick by me the whole, through all of this time. I can feel the joy of the Lord bursting from my heart. And I am finally able to pick up my ukulele and not my timbrels and sing joyful songs. I just love all of you who prayed for you, for me and I just praise the Lord for the work He continues to do in my life. And I pray for those of you out there who are going through that valley. That he will rebuild you and help you to go out and dance with the joyful. Praise God.

Hey beautiful DAB family, this is Coffee Bean. I used to call in as Missy from the Midwest but I’m now adopting the name Coffee Bean. And the reason for that is a dear prayer warrior friend of mine, sent me something that I just fell in love with, via text, last week. She said, we have three responses that we can have when difficulties come, and if we liken that to boiling water our response can be like that of a carrot where we become soft, and the world affects us and gets inside. The other is we can be like an egg, become hard, hard towards other in the world, others in the world. And our response is just hardness. Or we can be like a Coffee Bean when hot water, boiling water is poured over it, where we make everything better. We enhance that around us. We bring flavor, we bring life, we bring energy. So, I love that, so I’m Coffee Bean and I also love coffee, so it’s very fitting. The reason, the main reason for my call today is to lift up my dear friend Heather. Heather has a 23-year-old son, Henry, who just discovered purely, kind of by accident, that he has testicular cancer. He had surgery and their waiting on pathology reports and what treatment will be from there. But tumor markers look high so, she’s extremely concerned. Please lift up this wonderful Christian family. And that the correct procedures would be done, and they would be directed to the correct doctors. Thanks, love you all.

Hi family, this is Maurice from Florida. And I’m calling to request prayers from each and every one of you, if possible. I have recently taken myself to the Lord cause it seems as if everything is just, I’m in and out of the hospital with high blood pressure. On top of flu, influenza, this COVID, it’s one thing after the other and I can’t get the Lord’s help. Pray, I’m living in society and just need prayers. I’m praying every day that I could show you all the prayers I can get. Thank you, family, I bless each and every one of you and I pray for all of you all the time. God bless, each and every one of you.

Dear DAB family, this is your sister Ashley from California. And I am so grateful for this community. When others call in reaching out for help, there are times when it fits right for my heart too. And I am so grateful for the fact that the word is the lamp unto my feet and that God promises to lead the way. And I’m calling today because like Paul, in Romans 7 said, the other day I did something I hate towards my sister. And I didn’t do what I wanted to. And right now, I need the Holy Spirit, I’m in desperate need for the Lord to super naturally step in and help. Because it’s only through Him that things can be made right. Please pray for that reconciliation but I would be put to apologize and that there would be forgiveness but also like, understanding of wisdom to rebuild trust and that we could, we could work on that. And I could just use some encouragement family. Alright, I hope you guys have a great day. Thank you, this is your sister Ashley from California. Thank you, guys, bye.

Hello DAB family, this is Bubba D back in Tennessee, praying today, August 13th for the lady who shared about her ex-husband and two kids. Lord God, we ask that You would bless this woman, give her wisdom, give her strength to see what’s the best decision, how to do right by her kids. Give her your revelation Father. We pray that the enemy would not have dominion over her mind and the blame that it’s all her fault or the kids taking the blame that it’s their fault. We know that’s not the truth. And yet Lord, that’s what the enemy does with our heart and our soul, and they conflict with any separation, there’s this guilt and shame and hopelessness that the enemy’s trying to get set in to distort God’s image. Father, I pray for this lady and the kids, her ex-husband. Lord God, would you deal with that? Would you give them Your encouragement? For all the prayers on this podcast and all the friends that she has in her life, Father. Bless them, help them see that they’re loved, that they’re cherished by You and that You’re right there with them. Thank You Abbah, in Your precious son Jesus’ name we pray. Amen. God bless everyone and thanks Brian for the podcast. I’ve been listening for about three years now. It’s been an amazing blessing in my life. Peace.

Peace.

Isaiah 19:1-21:17, Galatians 2:1-16, Psalms 59:1-17, Proverbs 23:13-14

Today is the 15th day of September welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I’m Brian it is wonderful to be here with you today as we gather yet again, each and every day for the next step forward. And our next step forward leads us in the Old Testament back into the book of Isaiah. Today, chapters 19 through 21.

Commentary:

Okay. So, in Paul’s letter to the Galatians in our reading today we got a lot of personal information that we hadn’t had before and we got a pretty clear picture of what was going on that prompted Paul to write this letter, things that we’ve talked about before. So, some of the personal information that…well…we didn’t have before was that Paul is claiming that he has been living in his faith in Jesus for over 17 years at this point. And Paul claims that the gospel that he preaches is not something that he received from any person. It wasn’t transferred from a person with their convictions to him and he believed in those convictions and then proceeded. Paul claims that he only had met Peter one time and that was 14 years ago and the only other person he had met was Jesus’ brother James, who was known to be the leader of the Jerusalem church. So, in Paul’s view the gospel that he preached wasn’t given to him by any person. It was given to him by direct revelation from Jesus himself. It’s just that what Paul was revealing was a little bit different in its context than what the original believers in Jesus came to understand. And the issue or the flashpoint of the controversy was between Jews and Gentiles, something we have talked about before. But Paul actually gives us a bit of context, a bit of a description of what was going. And, so, I quote from Galatians. “This matter arose because some false believers had infiltrated our ranks to spy on the freedom we have in Christ Jesus, and to make us slaves. We did not give in to them for a moment so that the truth of the gospel might be preserved for you.” So, Paul’s drawing a line in the sand and saying this is where I stand. It’s just important to understand that that’s not where everybody stood at that time. And there’s a tension in this. And we probably can’t go through this enough because it is such a central bit of context of the early church itself. If you are Jewish and you had been involved or seen Jesus’ ministry, you would have believed that Jesus was a Hebrew rabbi, maybe an apocalyptic prophet, definitely a miracle worker, maybe the Messiah, maybe the son of God, but it’s all happening within the Jewish framework. And for Jews to be told that the law has been fulfilled and there is nothing to live up to anymore would’ve felt radical, a radical shift. But it’s not just a radical shift in understanding of your faith journey. Like, there were actually practical human problems here because the Jews, they had separated themselves. They had been given certain religious freedoms, but they kept to themselves, not only because of their religious convictions, but also because the culture was marginalizing them because they were separating themselves. Jews and Gentiles did not hang out together. Jews didn’t hang out with Gentiles because they were separate to God, but also because Gentiles marginalized them and segregated them. So, if you’re on the receiving end of that you find hard to trust your oppressor, or at least the person is pushing you to the margins. If we look at racial tensions that exist in the world today and that have existed all the way back to when Paul wrote this letter, we would see these kinds of issues are still with us. You don’t normally trust a group of people that you believe are marginalizing you and who through culture are taught to look down upon you. So, the gospel of Jesus was that we we’re all in this together, we all call upon the name of the Lord and are saved. And, so, this wasn’t just reframing religion. This is like reframing existence. And we understand this not only from first century history but also from Paul himself in his letter. Paul talks about having to confront the apostle Peter, like the apostle Peter, the one who walked with Jesus, the one who stepped out on the water. And he didn’t confront him over religion or theology. He confronted him out of his hypocrisy. If we remember back when we read the book of Acts, the first half of the book of Acts is really walking alongside the apostle Peter. And if we remember, Peter had a vision where a bunch of unclean animals came down on a sheet and he was told to kill and eat them. And that was the reframing of his understanding. But then he was summoned to the home of Cornelius who was a Roman centurion. His household was Gentile, and he shared the gospel with the Gentiles and the Holy Spirit fell upon them. And, so, Peter had witnessed firsthand the fact that God was sending His Holy Spirit upon Gentiles. Well, later on now here’s Peter acting one way among the Gentiles and a different way among the Jews. When he is around the Jews, he…he…he’s standoffish toward the Gentile brothers and sisters that he had previously been in fellowship with. And, so, again I quote Paul from the letter to the Galatians. “When Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face because he stood condemned. For before certain men came from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles but when they arrived, he began to draw back and separate himself from the Gentiles, because he was afraid of those who belonged to the circumcision group. The other Jews joined him in his hypocrisy so that by their hypocrisy even Barnabas was led astray.” So, we can see that this Jew, Gentile thing that is going on goes deep and it is a giant thing to get over and a giant to move forward. But for the apostle Paul it was obviously worth drawing a line in the sand over. All of the things they were talking about today come from the letter to the Galatians. He wrote this all down, which allows us to look into what was going on. And Paul felt it necessary to stand up and draw this line in the sand as it were, not because of major disputes over minor doctrinal issues, over freedom itself. If Jesus fulfilled the law, if Jesus was the son of God, if Jesus came and made it possible for mankind to have a direct relationship with God then anything that would impede that was a problem for Paul because for Paul we’re not justified through our actions, although very clearly in the Scriptures what we do definitely has impact and definitely matters, but for Paul, we are justified through faith. We believe, and when we believe with all of our hearts we are made right, righteous before God. For Paul, having this awareness of what God was doing in the world among the Jews and the Gentiles alike made it unnecessary to jump through any hoops other than taking a leap of faith into the arms of Jesus. And Paul will continue to unpack this theologically as we continue to move through the Scriptures. But this kind of gives us a really good picture of the backdrop that’s going on here. And if we see the backdrop that was going on then, we can see that…you know…we’re 2000 years in the future but so many of the things that were going on then in the early church are still going on now 2000 years later, and it gives us the chance to consider our own convictions and the ways that we draw lines in the sand and are we putting up impediments to faith in Jesus by offering a bunch of hoops to jump through, or are we clearly changed in our lives, understanding fully that it was our faith in Jesus and our surrender to His will in our lives that has changed everything and that anybody is invited to that. All they have to do is believe. And, so, let’s give that some thought today as we prepare to move forward in the letter to the Galatians tomorrow.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word. We thank You for being able to look back and get a glimpse of understanding of what was going on when You were at work in the first century. And that gives us insight into what You are doing in the 21st century where we are now. And we are grateful to be a part of the same story and that we have a role to play in this ongoing story of You making all things new again, of putting it all back together the way it was intended. May we recognize Your work in this world whether we understand it or not. May we trust You and follow where You are leading we pray. In the name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Yeah, this is Clint from Albertville I was calling in for the lady who called in with the husband with alcohol problems. I guess probably 15, 20 years ago I was drinking 18 beers a night and a pint of vodka every night. And I started drinking every morning. I’d drink a case of beer and I don’t know, a pint, pint and a half of vodka. It was pretty bad. My kids were, I guess probably around 10, 12 years old somewhere in there. And my wife had enough of it and through me out for three weeks. I didn’t know how long it was going to be when she kicked me out. But surely the night she kicked me out I quit drinking and turned myself over to God that night. And I haven’t went astray since. I get my strength from God. But m y alcohol…I don’t drink anymore at all. I don’t even have any desire. I don’t know if that may give you a little encouragement that people like that can turn around. My daddy was an alcoholic, my granddaddy was an alcoholic and it just went on and on but just called in to give you a little encouragement maybe that people can change, and he can change. Just keep praying for him and I’ll pray for him and everybody on here will pray for him. Thank you.

Yes, this is Brian from Huber Heights OH praying for…asking prayer for my son Mitchel Emerick. He is mentally ill. He is a drug addict. He is homeless. He is very much hopeless right now. He needs Jesus so badly. He claims salvation but he…that needs to be the number one thing I pray for him for. But he’s in jail right now and I’ve been…we’re trying to work with the court and his lawyer which he’s not going to be there on his court date tomorrow which alarms me. But his mother wrote a letter giving his history and I’m just praying that that gets to his new council and to the judges, judge Henderson and I pray that he would finally get that forced help he…he needs with rehab, with forced psych meds, or possibly to be incarcerated or…or…or institutionalized for short period of time where he could be off drugs where he can be put on meds and recover. I love him dearly. I pray for him all day long. Please pray that he gets the help that he needs in his court tomorrow. It’s…his name is Mitchell, and he is…he is in the Dayton Montgomery County jail awaiting a court for tomorrow. Pray that he would get the forced help that he needs, that God would lead his mother or night to get him the help that we can without enabling him. Thank you and God bless. Please God be with my son Mitchell. I thank You and praise You for the blessings You will give him in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Hey DAB family it’s Rob Still, worship dude from Nashville and I would like to ask for your prayers and the prayers of the Saints for myself actually. It’s September 11th I think as I call in. I am on a mission’s trip till the middle of September with a team from the US to Peru and the Lord has really giving us an important assignment I think here and just asking for your prayers to cover us and cover myself especially in the area of health. You know, the whole COVID thing going on is still kind of prevalent actually in parts of the world. And anyway, would really appreciate your prayers for that and just for the effectiveness of the gospel ministry. I want to thank you, all of you guys who listen and pray and especially for those of you who maybe feel like you can’t…you’re at a stage of life where you can’t really do a lot physically, but your prayers are important, and we need your prayers. And, so, I just want to say thank you so much for all of you who stand in the gap and our intercessors. May the Lord richly bless you. __.

Hi DAB family this is Laura in Colorado and I’m just calling because I would like to ask for prayer. I feel like…I feel like I just need an army of prayer warriors and I know I can find that here and I’m so grateful for it. I’ve called in the past about this, but I’m a NICU nurse and in February I had took in an abandoned baby and she’s amazing and beautiful and our family loves her so much and I know God just has an amazing plan for her life. Her life has already been just like one miracle after another, and we’ve been so amazed. And our…our hearts desire is…my five biological kids are in love with her and our desire is to adopt her and that looked like that was gonna be a really good possibility but recently there’s been a request to move her out of state to another foster parent. There’s no biological family involved at all right now. So, we’re heartbroken and we don’t feel like this is in her best interest. And, of course, there’s a lot of other factors involved but if you would just please please pray. It felt this was a spiritual battle over this baby from the beginning and I just ask that you would pray that whatever forces of darkness are out for this little baby’s life that they would come just to a screeching halt and that only plans for her good would go forward and that we would have favor with the judge…

Hi good morning, DABbers my name is Crown of Beauty from Kansas City. I am just calling for prayer for myself. I’ve been struggling a little bit. I lost my mum about a month ago and, you know, dealing with grief and everything like that. And also I am in the process of building my own business. I’m a hair stylist here in Kansas City and I’ve been a commissioned stylist for a while now probably five years or so and I’m being led to step out of my comfort zone and be a booth renter. And I’m a bit nervous about that and I am leaving my current salon in the next couple of weeks, and I’ve been doing things in the background while I’m preparing for this like my business cards and everything like that. And I already found my location and everything like that. I’ve already paid my rent for a few months but I’m just very very nervous about this new transition and change. I’ve talked to most of my clients and some of them are gonna follow and some of them are going to stay at my current location which for them it’s easier for them to stay here at my salon that I work for. So, I’m just praying that God would give me peace about this. And He has given me peace but just I’m so nervous for this change and I’m scared. But I just need prayers from you all and I would really appreciate that. Thank you everyone. This community is such a blessing to me. God bless everyone.
