The Daily Audio Bible Reading for Saturday February 20, 2021 (NIV)

Leviticus 9:7-10:20

Moses said to Aaron, “Come up to the altar and perform your purification offering and your entirely burned offering, making reconciliation for yourself and the people. Then perform the people’s offering in order to make reconciliation for them, just as the Lord commanded.”

Aaron went to the altar and slaughtered the young bull for his purification offering. Then Aaron’s sons presented the blood to him, and he dipped his finger into the blood and put it on the altar’s horns. He poured the rest of the blood out at the altar’s base. 10 He completely burned on the altar the fat, kidneys, and lobe of the liver from the purification offering, just as the Lord commanded Moses. 11 But he burned the flesh and hide with fire outside the camp.

12 Then Aaron slaughtered the entirely burned offering. Aaron’s sons handed him the blood, and he tossed it against all sides of the altar. 13 They handed him the entirely burned offering in pieces, including the head, and he completely burned them on the altar. 14 Then he washed the insides and lower legs and completely burned them on the altar along with the rest of the entirely burned offering.

15 Next, Aaron presented the people’s offering. He took the male goat for the people’s purification offering, slaughtered it, and offered it as a purification offering like the first purification offering. 16 He presented the entirely burned offering and did with it according to the regulation. 17 Then he presented the grain offering, took a handful from it, and completely burned it on the altar, in addition to the morning’s entirely burned offering.

18 Aaron then slaughtered the ox and the ram—the people’s communal sacrifice of well-being. Aaron’s sons handed him the blood, which he tossed against all sides of the altar, 19 and the fat pieces of the ox and ram—the fat tail, the covering fat, the kidneys, and the lobe of the liver. 20 They placed these fat pieces on the animals’ breasts, and Aaron completely burned them on the altar. 21 But Aaron lifted up the breasts and the right thigh as an uplifted offering before the Lord, just as Moses had commanded.

22 Aaron then raised his hands toward the people and blessed them. After performing the purification offering, the entirely burned offering, and the well-being sacrifice, he came down. 23 Moses and Aaron then entered the meeting tent. When they came out, they blessed the people, and the Lord’s glorious presence appeared to all the people. 24 Fire flew out from before the Lord and devoured the entirely burned offering and the fat pieces on the altar. All the people saw it. They shouted for joy and fell facedown.

Nadab and Abihu

10 Now Nadab and Abihu, two of Aaron’s sons, each took an incense pan. They put fire and incense on them and offered unauthorized fire before the Lord, which he had not commanded them. Then fire flew out from before the Lord and devoured them, and they died before the Lord.

Moses said to Aaron, “When the Lord said, ‘I will show that I am holy among those near me, and before all the people I will manifest my glorious presence,’ this is what he meant!” But Aaron was silent.

Then Moses called Mishael and Elzaphan the sons of Uzziel, Aaron’s uncle, and told them, “Go carry your relatives out from the front of the sanctuary to a place outside the camp.” So they went forward and carried Nadab and Abihu out by their tunics to a place outside the camp, just as Moses had ordered. Moses then said to Aaron and his sons, Eleazar and Ithamar, “Don’t dishevel your hair and don’t rip your clothes into pieces, or you will die and bring anger upon the whole community. Your family—all of Israel’s house—will mourn the burning the Lord has done. But you must not leave the meeting tent, or you will die because the Lord’s anointing oil is on you.” So they did what Moses ordered.

Priestly drinking and eating

The Lord said to Aaron: Both you and your sons must not drink wine or beer when you enter the meeting tent so that you don’t die—this is a permanent rule throughout your future generations— 10 so that you can distinguish between the holy and the common, and between the unclean and the clean, 11 and so that you can teach the Israelites all the rules that the Lord spoke to them through Moses.

12 Moses then told Aaron and his remaining sons, Eleazar and Ithamar, “Take the grain offering that is left over from the Lord’s food gifts and eat it unleavened next to the altar, because it is most holy. 13 You must eat it in a holy place because it is your portion and your sons’ portion from the Lord’s food gifts, as I have been commanded. 14 You must eat the breast for the uplifted offering and the thigh for the gift offering in a clean place—both you and your sons and daughters. These things are designated as your portion and your children’s portion from the Israelites’ communal sacrifices of well-being. 15 The Israelites must bring the thigh for the gift and the breast for the uplifted offering along with the food gifts of the fat pieces, to be lifted up as an uplifted offering before the Lord. These will belong to both you and your children as a permanent portion, just as the Lord has commanded.”

16 Then Moses asked about the male goat for the purification offering, and discovered that it had already been burned. He was angry with Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron’s remaining sons, and asked, 17 “Why didn’t you eat the purification offering in the holy area? It’s most holy, and it was assigned to you for bearing the community’s punishment by making reconciliation for them before the Lord. 18 Since its blood wasn’t brought into the sanctuary’s interior, you were to have eaten it in the sanctuary, just as I was commanded.”[a]

19 “Look,” Aaron said to Moses, “today they offered their purification offerings and their entirely burned offerings before the Lord, but these things still happened to me! Would the Lord have approved if I had eaten a purification offering today?” 20 When Moses heard that, he approved.[b]

More parables about God’s kingdom

26 Then Jesus said, “This is what God’s kingdom is like. It’s as though someone scatters seed on the ground, 27 then sleeps and wakes night and day. The seed sprouts and grows, but the farmer doesn’t know how. 28 The earth produces crops all by itself, first the stalk, then the head, then the full head of grain. 29 Whenever the crop is ready, the farmer goes out to cut the grain because it’s harvesttime.”

30 He continued, “What’s a good image for God’s kingdom? What parable can I use to explain it? 31 Consider a mustard seed. When scattered on the ground, it’s the smallest of all the seeds on the earth; 32 but when it’s planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all vegetable plants. It produces such large branches that the birds in the sky are able to nest in its shade.”

33 With many such parables he continued to give them the word, as much as they were able to hear. 34 He spoke to them only in parables, then explained everything to his disciples when he was alone with them.

Jesus stops a storm

35 Later that day, when evening came, Jesus said to them, “Let’s cross over to the other side of the lake.” 36 They left the crowd and took him in the boat just as he was. Other boats followed along.

37 Gale-force winds arose, and waves crashed against the boat so that the boat was swamped. 38 But Jesus was in the rear of the boat, sleeping on a pillow. They woke him up and said, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re drowning?”

39 He got up and gave orders to the wind, and he said to the lake, “Silence! Be still!” The wind settled down and there was a great calm. 40 Jesus asked them, “Why are you frightened? Don’t you have faith yet?”

41 Overcome with awe, they said to each other, “Who then is this? Even the wind and the sea obey him!”

Jesus frees a demon-possessed man

Jesus and his disciples came to the other side of the lake, to the region of the Gerasenes. As soon as Jesus got out of the boat, a man possessed by an evil spirit came out of the tombs. This man lived among the tombs, and no one was ever strong enough to restrain him, even with a chain. He had been secured many times with leg irons and chains, but he broke the chains and smashed the leg irons. No one was tough enough to control him. Night and day in the tombs and the hills, he would howl and cut himself with stones. When he saw Jesus from far away, he ran and knelt before him, shouting, “What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? Swear to God that you won’t torture me!”

He said this because Jesus had already commanded him, “Unclean spirit, come out of the man!”

Jesus asked him, “What is your name?”

He responded, “Legion is my name, because we are many.” 10 They pleaded with Jesus not to send them out of that region.

11 A large herd of pigs was feeding on the hillside. 12 “Send us into the pigs!” they begged. “Let us go into the pigs!” 13 Jesus gave them permission, so the unclean spirits left the man and went into the pigs. Then the herd of about two thousand pigs rushed down the cliff into the lake and drowned.

14 Those who tended the pigs ran away and told the story in the city and in the countryside. People came to see what had happened. 15 They came to Jesus and saw the man who used to be demon-possessed. They saw the very man who had been filled with many demons sitting there fully dressed and completely sane, and they were filled with awe. 16 Those who had actually seen what had happened to the demon-possessed man told the others about the pigs. 17 Then they pleaded with Jesus to leave their region.

18 While he was climbing into the boat, the one who had been demon-possessed pleaded with Jesus to let him come along as one of his disciples. 19 But Jesus wouldn’t allow it. “Go home to your own people,” Jesus said, “and tell them what the Lord has done for you and how he has shown you mercy.” 20 The man went away and began to proclaim in the Ten Cities all that Jesus had done for him, and everyone was amazed.

Psalm 37:30-40

30 The mouths of the righteous recite wisdom;
their tongues discuss justice.
31 The Instruction of their God is in their hearts;
they don’t miss a step.
32 The wicked, on the other hand, target the righteous,
seeking to kill them.
33 But the Lord won’t leave the righteous
to the power of the wicked,
and won’t let the righteous
be found guilty when they are judged.

34 Hope in the Lord and keep his way!
He will lift you up so you can possess the land.
When the wicked are eliminated,
you will see it for yourself!
35 I myself have seen wicked powerful people,
exalting themselves like a stately cedar.[a]

I looked all over for them,

37 Observe those who have integrity

Leviticus 7:28-9:6, Mark 3:31-4:25, Psalms 37:12-29, Proverbs 10:5

Today is the 19th day of February welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I’m Brian it’s great to be here with you today as we round the corner here. We’re at the end of another week just about and we’ve transitioned into two new books this week and we’re getting’ moved into those and enjoying that. So, let’s…let’s continue…let’s continue with the journey. We’re reading from the Common English Bible this week. Leviticus chapter 7 verse 28 through 9 verse 6.

Commentary:

Okay. Let's…well…let’s talk about harvest today. Jesus talked about it. And, you know, harvest…harvest is definitely a scriptural…a scriptural term that Jesus talks about, being the Lord of the harvest or sending workers, the laborers are few to go into the harvest. So, this is definitely a scriptural term but it’s…it’s an agricultural term as well. We understand that seedtime and harvest that's…that’s how we get our food. And, so, if you are a farmer you want to seed to go into the soil, you want it to…to yield fully to its full potential, and we understand these things. So, Jesus is talking about different kinds of soil that the seed gets planted into and depending on the kind of soil really dictates the kind of harvest. So, the seed can be awesome seed but planted in not so awesome soil it’s not gonna be an awesome harvest, but good seed planted in good soil does produce a great harvest. Jesus was teaching this in a story, in story form, in parable form, as He often did. And it’s easy enough, and this is a popular…popular enough parable that we sort of understand the lay of the land. And Jesus was pretty explicit in giving an interpretation of the parable that He had given. We all want that 100-fold harvest, right? We all want a bountiful harvest in our lives. Maybe we need to start thinking about gardening. Maybe this is the point in our journey through the year and our journey in life that we need to turn inward and see our heart, see our hearts as a field of soil. What kind of soil is there? Because whatever kind of soil is there is going to dictate the harvest, no matter how good the seed is. So, God is nourishing us through His word every day here as we take this journey through the Bible. This is good seed we could say, but are we, are our hearts good soil for this good seed. So, if the seed falls and cannot take roots then it’s just gonna lay there on the surface and it’s gonna get snatched away. If…if our hearts are hard and stony and difficult, then there’s nowhere for the seed to take root. And if we’re just distracted and anxious and full of worry or we’re just distracted and chasing other things, other desires…well…then the soil of our heart is thorny and it’s gonna choke the seed out. We can understand this. We can even…we should be able to visualize this. We’ve seen rocky ground we’ve seen thorny ground. Like, we should understand this and we can even visualize how difficult it would be for a bountiful harvest to grow under those conditions. If our hearts are in that condition than they are not going to yield the bountiful harvest, we are hoping for. In other words, God’s gonna do His part here, but we have some gardening to do. We have our part. Our role to play in. And maybe it’s time to dig up the stony ground and do away with the thorn bushes and make ourselves fertile and ready for anything that God wants to bring in this adventure that we call life, this dance that we are in together with Him.

Prayer:

Jesus, thank You. Thank You for this wisdom. It’s very clear. It’s abundantly clear. We know the hard places in our lives. We know the thorny places in our lives. We know the shallow places in our lives. And we just need help. We need You to guide us and show us how to become good soil. So, come Holy Spirit as we contemplate this, as we consider, as we meditate upon this, show us the areas in our heart that need some gardening. Come Holy Spirit we pray. In the name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.

H family it’s Mica I haven’t called for over a year. So much as has happened I could never catch you up in about a minute and 30 seconds; however, I…I did really need you guys help. You’re the closest thing I have to a family for a long long time. And I’ve spent a year homeless and been in a domestic violence shelter and lost all my stuff add my car and I was put in jail and you name it. Right now I’m out because of an injury from work and because there’s some hold up and misunderstanding about the last time I was on unemployment. I am waiting for the determination so that I can get my workman’s comp and things like that because I was injured back on January 7th. I haven’t been working since. I’ve been borrowing money from people and leaning on people and I am just tired of it. I need I…need things to go right and I need __ things to stay away from me. Most of all I…I need to be right with God again and I need a family too. Please family help me __.

Hello Daily Audio Bible family this is Natalie. I’m calling because I just wanted to leave a quick prayer for… I’ve been listening to a lot of the prayers of the people and I just wanted to just do a little prayer for each and every person. I may not know the name or the…where you’re from but I know we are all connected in God’s family and the spirit of God is with us and…and He can intercede on our behalf. So, heavenly Father I thank You Lord this day for each and every person who’s called in who had a prayer or who had a concern Father. You tell us Lord Jesus that Lord we are connected as a family and we can come boldly before Your throne to ask for mercy in our times of need oh God. Father I pray for those that are sick Lord. There was one gentleman who said he had a heart attack, and he was struggling…they diagnosed him with bipolar Father and we…we…we come against that Father because we know Lord God that You are the author and finisher of our faith and we know that by Your stripes we are healed Father and I pray for healing on those people Father God. What man says is one thing but what God says the final authority. Father I pray for those people that are struggling with their jobs, with their families, those that are not saved Lord. I ask Lord God that You Father God Lord You said that we just need to plant the seed and You would do the growing Father. Father I pray over those people Lord Jesus that have…have…have been one Young lady said that her…her Father committed suicide in December of 2020. Father I pray for peace in that family Lord Jesus. Father You said that You would work all things together for the good of those that love You and are called according to Your purpose. And, so, I pray Father God that everything that we go through in our lives, everything that she is going through and her families going through that Lord You would…You would receive the glory from at all. You said what the enemy meant for evil You will turn it around…

Hello Daily Audio Bible family this is Ethan of Ashburnham MA in the USA. I have a prayer request that I’ve been meaning to ask for…for a long time. I have a friend his name is Chris he’s going through some sort of crisis that I won’t go into detail here. He…he’s walked away from Christ and truth be told I am really scared for his future. I know I shouldn’t be. I’m not responsible for his future but I am. I just…without Christ there’s this void in him that he’s trying to fill with everything money can buy, physical items, but as we all know those don’t fill us up. And also, I’m starting to become concerned that this is becoming an unhealthy relationship for me. I feel like I have to be in his life to just try and bring him back to Christ but that’s not my responsibility. I shouldn’t be doing that and subjecting myself. Please pray for my friend Chris. God knows who I’m talking about. He’s been my dear friend for over 15 years, and he was one of the few people I thought with absolute certainty would never abandon me during a time in middle school when I thought nobody liked me. He’s been one of my closest friends for over 15 years and I’m heartbroken of the way that he’s becoming but I choose to trust in Christ and His strength.

Hi guys this is Margaret from Southern California. I’m calling in for Tiffany and Tony of Cleveland. Tiffany had called again asking prayer for joy after the loss of her daughter Gianna. And I remember your original first call and my heart sank because I can relate to this loss of your precious daughter. I lost my baby girl 11 years ago. She was a full-term stillborn baby girl, 9-pound beautiful baby and I delivered her still. And I know she went to heaven when she was in my tummy but at the time, I couldn’t see straight for anything and I absolutely lost all joy. And I just want to encourage you guys that God has brought me alone and my husband so far these past 11 years and we truly have joy. We feel that God has done everything for us and as far as healing and mending our hearts and giving us more children after that and…but mostly I think that He’s giving us a perspective of knowing that she’s in heaven and we’re going to be with her again. And I want to encourage you guys. Gianna, you’re going to be with her again. And one day down on earth is one day closer to heaven for eternity and perfection with Jesus and I just can’t wait for that day. And I just want you guys so badly to be able to experience that. And you know what, it may not be tomorrow but just keep…keep on keeping on and have that faith that the Lord will deliver you from this despair. I love you friends.

Good morning DAB family today is the 16th day of February and I’m just sitting in my car. I just finished listening to Daily Audio Bible for the 15th. Again, Brian it’s just amazing listening to you. So, this is Janet from…from the UK and I’m just calling to ask for prayer for my mom. It’s been 2 weeks. She’s been diagnosed with breast cancer. And even though she lives in America I live in the UK I do have a sister and brother that’s in the US also but they’re not really active in her life and she’s literally at the house by herself, but thanks be to God we do have friends that are taking care, helping to take care of her. But I’m going to try to go over to the UK. So, I’m asking for prayers, journey mercies as I leave from the UK to go to America to help take care of my mom. And I also pray for my mom because she has like diabetes and all these other stuff that…other combabilities as they call it. But I’m asking for prayer because I know I have the best…I have the best family, the most prayerful family powerful in prayer. So, I’m asking family that you help me pray that God will see us through, that He would just give us one day at a time as He normally does and that we’ll appreciate it and that my mom would be OK. And my sisters pastor his name is Darrell Davis his son was shot and he’s not doing well, and he’s developed Covid. Please pray for that family. And my nephew Elijah, I’ve called in several times. He has alopecia and he’s suffering from mental illness. He has left home and said he didn’t want to anything to do with our family or God. He’s somewhere in California. We have no idea where he is. Please pray for him. Kingdom Seeker Daniel, Lord your call. I’m praying for you brother. I’m praying. God is so able. My sister who has metastatic breast cancer I didn’t catch your name. God knows who you are. You said you had a compression fracture, I think. I’m praying for you. Jeremy Neph, please call if you can let us know how you’re doing. The Daily Audio Bible Reading for Friday February 19, 2021 (NIV)

Leviticus 7:28-9:6

28 The Lord said to Moses: 29 Say to the Israelites: If you wish to offer a communal sacrifice of well-being to the Lord, you are allowed to bring your offering to the Lord as your communal sacrifice of well-being.[a] 30 Your own hands must bring the Lord’s food gifts. You will bring the fat with the breast so that the breast can be lifted as an uplifted offering before the Lord. 31 The priest will completely burn the fat on the altar, but the breast will go to Aaron and his sons. 32 You will give the right thigh of your communal sacrifice of well-being to the priest as a gift. 33 The right thigh will belong to the son of Aaron who offers the blood and fat of the well-being offering. 34 I have taken the breast of the uplifted offering and the thigh that is given by the Israelites from their communal sacrifices of well-being, and have given them to Aaron the priest and to his sons as a permanent portion from the Israelites.

35 This is what Aaron and his sons are allotted from the Lord’s food gifts once they have been presented to serve the Lord as priests. 36 The Lord commanded that these things be given to the priests by the Israelites, following their anointment. It is their permanent portion throughout their future generations.

Conclusion concerning offerings

37 This concludes the Instructions for the entirely burned offering, the grain offering, the purification offering, the compensation offering, the ordination offering, and the communal sacrifice of well-being, 38 which the Lord commanded Moses at Mount Sinai on the day when he ordered the Israelites to present their offerings to the Lord, in the Sinai desert.

The priests’ ordination

The Lord said to Moses, Take Aaron and his sons with him, the priestly clothing, the anointing oil, a bull for the purification offering, two rams, and a basket of unleavened bread, and assemble the whole community at the meeting tent’s entrance.

Moses did as the Lord commanded him, and the community assembled at the meeting tent’s entrance. Moses said to the community, “This is what the Lord has commanded us to do.” Then Moses brought Aaron and his sons forward and washed them in water. Moses put the tunic on Aaron, tied the sash around him, and dressed him in the robe. Moses then put the priestly vest on Aaron, tied the woven waistband of the vest around him, and secured the vest to him with it. Then Moses placed the chest piece on Aaron and set the Urim and Thummim into the chest piece. Moses placed the turban on Aaron’s head and put the gold flower ornament, the holy crown, on the turban’s front, just as the Lord had commanded him.

10 Moses then took the anointing oil and anointed the dwelling[b] and everything in it, making them holy by doing so. 11 He sprinkled some of the oil on the altar seven times, and anointed the altar and all its equipment, as well as the basin and its base, to make them holy. 12 He poured some of the anointing oil on Aaron’s head, thereby anointing him to make him holy. 13 Then Moses brought Aaron’s sons forward, dressed them in tunics, tied sashes around them, and wrapped headbands on them, just as the Lord had commanded him.

14 Next Moses brought forward the bull for the purification offering. Aaron and his sons pressed their hands on its head. 15 Moses slaughtered it, then took the blood and, using his finger, put it on all of the altar’s horns, purifying the altar. He poured the rest of the blood out at the altar’s base. 18 Then Moses presented the ram for the entirely burned offering, and Aaron and his sons pressed their hands on its head. 19 Moses slaughtered it, then tossed the blood against all sides of the altar. 20 He cut up the ram into pieces, and then completely burned the head, pieces, and fat. 21 After he washed the insides and lower legs with water, Moses completely burned the whole ram on the altar. It was an entirely burned offering for a soothing smell; it was a food gift for the Lord, as the Lord had commanded Moses.

22 Moses then presented the second ram, the ram for ordination, and Aaron and his sons pressed their hands on its head. 23 Moses slaughtered it, then took some of its blood and put it on Aaron’s right earlobe, on his right thumb, and on his right big toe. 24 Then Moses brought forward Aaron’s sons and put some of the blood on their right earlobes, their right thumbs, and their right big toes. Moses tossed the rest of the blood against all of the altar’s sides. 25 Then he took the fat—the fat tail, all the fat that was around the insides, the lobe of the liver, the two kidneys and their fat—as well as the right thigh. 26 From the basket of unleavened bread that was before the Lord, he took one loaf of unleavened flatbread, one loaf of flatbread made with oil, and one unleavened wafer, and he placed these on the fat pieces and on the right thigh. 27 Moses set all of this in Aaron’s and his sons’ hands, then lifted them as an uplifted offering before the Lord. 28 Next Moses took this out of their hands and completely burned it on the altar, along with the entirely burned offering. This was an ordination offering for a soothing smell; it was a food gift for the Lord. 29 Next Moses took the breast from the ram for the ordination offering and lifted it as an uplifted offering before the Lord. It belonged to Moses as his portion, just as the Lord had commanded him. 30 Moses took some of the anointing oil and some of the blood that was on the altar and sprinkled it on Aaron and his clothes, and on his sons and their clothes as well. In this way, Moses made holy Aaron, his clothing, and Aaron’s sons and their clothing.

31 Moses said to Aaron and his sons: “Cook the meat at the meeting tent’s entrance. You may eat it there along with the bread that is in the basket of the ordination offering, just as I was commanded,[d] ‘Aaron and his sons can eat it.’ 32 But you must burn whatever is left over of the meat and bread with fire. 33 You must not leave the meeting tent’s entrance for seven days, until the period of your ordination is completed, because your ordination takes seven days. 34 What was done today was commanded by the Lord, to make reconciliation for you. 35 You must stay at the meeting tent’s entrance for seven days, day and night, observing the Lord’s requirement so you don’t die, because that’s what I was commanded.”

36 Aaron and his sons did everything the Lord commanded through Moses.

The priests’ initiation

On the eighth day, Moses called for Aaron, Aaron’s sons, and Israel’s elders. He said to Aaron, “Take a young bull from the herd as a purification offering and a ram as an entirely burned offering, both flawless animals, and bring them before the Lord. Then tell the Israelites, ‘Take a male goat as a purification offering; a young bull and a sheep—both one-year-old flawless animals—as an entirely burned offering; an ox and a ram as a well-being sacrifice before the Lord; and a grain offering mixed with oil, because today the Lord will appear to you.’”

They brought what Moses had commanded to the front of the meeting tent. Then the whole community came forward and stood before the Lord. Moses said, “The Lord has ordered you to do this so that the Lord’s glorious presence will appear to you.”

31 His mother and brothers arrived. They stood outside and sent word to him, calling for him. 32 A crowd was seated around him, and those sent to him said, “Look, your mother, brothers, and sisters are outside looking for you.”

Parable of the soils

Jesus began to teach beside the lake again. Such a large crowd gathered that he climbed into a boat there on the lake. He sat in the boat while the whole crowd was nearby on the shore. He said many things to them in parables. While teaching them, he said, “Listen to this! A farmer went out to scatter seed. As he was scattering seed, some fell on the path; and the birds came and ate it. Other seed fell on rocky ground where the soil was shallow. They sprouted immediately because the soil wasn’t deep. When the sun came up, it scorched the plants; and they dried up because they had no roots. Other seed fell among thorny plants. The thorny plants grew and choked the seeds, and they produced nothing. Other seed fell into good soil and bore fruit. Upon growing and increasing, the seed produced in one case a yield of thirty to one, in another case a yield of sixty to one, and in another case a yield of one hundred to one.” He said, “Whoever has ears to listen should pay attention!”

Jesus explains his parable

10 When they were alone, the people around Jesus, along with the Twelve, asked him about the parables. 11 He said to them, “The secret of God’s kingdom has been given to you, but to those who are outside everything comes in parables. 12 This is so that they can look and see but have no insight, and they can hear but not understand. Otherwise, they might turn their lives around and be forgiven.

13 “Don’t you understand this parable? Then how will you understand all the parables? 14 The farmer scatters the word. 15 This is the meaning of the seed that fell on the path: When the word is scattered and people hear it, right away Satan comes and steals the word that was planted in them. 16 Here’s the meaning of the seed that fell on rocky ground: When people hear the word, they immediately receive it joyfully. 17 Because they have no roots, they last for only a little while. When they experience distress or abuse because of the word, they immediately fall away. 18 Others are like the seed scattered among the thorny plants. These are the ones who have heard the word; 19 but the worries of this life, the false appeal of wealth, and the desire for more things break in and choke the word, and it bears no fruit. 20 The seed scattered on good soil are those who hear the word and embrace it. They bear fruit, in one case a yield of thirty to one, in another case sixty to one, and in another case one hundred to one.”

21 Jesus said to them, “Does anyone bring in a lamp in order to put it under a basket or a bed? Shouldn’t it be placed on a lampstand? 22 Everything hidden will be revealed, and everything secret will come out into the open. 23 Whoever has ears to listen should pay attention!”

24 He said to them, “Listen carefully! God will evaluate you with the same standard you use to evaluate others. Indeed, you will receive even more. 25 Those who have will receive more, but as for those who don’t have, even what they don’t have will be taken away from them.”

Psalm 37:12-29

12 The wicked plot against the righteous,
grinding their teeth at them.
13 But my Lord just laughs at them
because he knows that their day is coming.
14 The wicked draw their swords and bend their bows
to bring down the weak and the needy,

15 But the sword of the wicked will enter their own hearts!
Their bows will be broken!

16 Better is the little that the righteous have
than the overabundant wealth of the wicked.[a]
17 The arms of the wicked will be broken,
but the Lord supports the righteous.
18 The Lord is intimately acquainted
with the lives of the blameless;
their heritage will last forever.

25 I was young and now I’m old,
but I have never seen the righteous left all alone,
have never seen their children begging for bread.
26 They are always gracious and generous.
Their children are a blessing.

27 Turn away from evil! Do good!

They are guarded forever,

Leviticus 7:28-9:6

28 The Lord said to Moses: 29 Say to the Israelites: If you wish to offer a communal sacrifice of well-being to the Lord, you are allowed to bring your offering to the Lord as your communal sacrifice of well-being.[a] 30 Your own hands must bring the Lord’s food gifts. You will bring the fat with the breast so that the breast can be lifted as an uplifted offering before the Lord. 31 The priest will completely burn the fat on the altar, but the breast will go to Aaron and his sons. 32 You will give the right thigh of your communal sacrifice of well-being to the priest as a gift. 33 The right thigh will belong to the son of Aaron who offers the blood and fat of the well-being offering. 34 I have taken the breast of the uplifted offering and the thigh that is given by the Israelites from their communal sacrifices of well-being, and have given them to Aaron the priest and to his sons as a permanent portion from the Israelites.

35 This is what Aaron and his sons are allotted from the Lord’s food gifts once they have been presented to serve the Lord as priests. 36 The Lord commanded that these things be given to the priests by the Israelites, following their anointment. It is their permanent portion throughout their future generations.

Conclusion concerning offerings

37 This concludes the Instructions for the entirely burned offering, the grain offering, the purification offering, the compensation offering, the ordination offering, and the communal sacrifice of well-being, 38 which the Lord commanded Moses at Mount Sinai on the day when he ordered the Israelites to present their offerings to the Lord, in the Sinai desert.

The priests’ ordination

The Lord said to Moses, Take Aaron and his sons with him, the priestly clothing, the anointing oil, a bull for the purification offering, two rams, and a basket of unleavened bread, and assemble the whole community at the meeting tent’s entrance.

Moses did as the Lord commanded him, and the community assembled at the meeting tent’s entrance. Moses said to the community, “This is what the Lord has commanded us to do.” Then Moses brought Aaron and his sons forward and washed them in water. Moses put the tunic on Aaron, tied the sash around him, and dressed him in the robe. Moses then put the priestly vest on Aaron, tied the woven waistband of the vest around him, and secured the vest to him with it. Then Moses placed the chest piece on Aaron and set the Urim and Thummim into the chest piece. Moses placed the turban on Aaron’s head and put the gold flower ornament, the holy crown, on the turban’s front, just as the Lord had commanded him.

10 Moses then took the anointing oil and anointed the dwelling[b] and everything in it, making them holy by doing so. 11 He sprinkled some of the oil on the altar seven times, and anointed the altar and all its equipment, as well as the basin and its base, to make them holy. 12 He poured some of the anointing oil on Aaron’s head, thereby anointing him to make him holy. 13 Then Moses brought Aaron’s sons forward, dressed them in tunics, tied sashes around them, and wrapped headbands on them, just as the Lord had commanded him.

Leviticus 6:1-7:27, Mark 3:7-30, Psalms 37:1-11, Proverbs 10:3-4

Today is the 18th day of February welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian it is wonderful to be here with you today like every day. What a joy. What a privilege that we can come together like this no matter what’s going on, no matter where we are, no matter where we are on earth we can step into this different place, this safe peaceful place around the Global Campfire and just be together, knowing we’re not alone, knowing we’re on the same journey and knowing that…that the Father delights in us being on this journey together as we learn, as we grow, as things challenge us to change, which in effect is the essence of what repenting even is, to change, to change your mind,. And, so, we’re doing that a lot, we’re done that a lot already this year. And, so, let’s dive in today, take the next step forward. We’re reading from the Common English Bible this week. Leviticus chapter 6 verse 1 through 7 verse 27.

Commentary:

Okay. Let’s look in the book of Mark for a second. Let me just…let me just quote Jesus out of the book of Mark. “A kingdom involved in the civil war will collapse” and “a house torn apart by divisions will collapse.” Like there’s a part of me that feels like there’s nothing else that needs to be said. A family, whether a national family or an immediate family that is splintered and fractured and divided by feuding is gonna collapse. It’s standalone solid wisdom but why is Jesus even saying this? He’s saying this because the religious people who are trying to be the leaders, the…the spiritual caretakers of the people are spreading false information about Jesus by saying, “He can do what He can do because He’s empowered by the devil to do it.” Jesus simply responds basically, “how can…how does that even make any sense? If the devil’s divided against himself then the whole things going to come down, the whole thing will fall apart.” But then He goes on to talk about blaspheming the Holy Spirit. And the thing is, Jesus and the Pharisees and the Sadducees, they’re supposed to be on the same team. Jesus is a rabbi teaching Torah just like they are. Obviously, God is working through Him because He’s performing miraculous healings and He is teaching with authority in a way that the people haven’t heard before. They’re supposed to be moving in the same direction, but instead they have gotten the Pharisees, the Sanhedrin, the leaders, the religious leaders of the people have gotten so sideways that the whole thing has become about control. The whole thing is about controlling people’s behaviors. And they’ve been looking for reasons to accuse Jesus, but a couple of the reasons are the things that He does on the Sabbath. He breaks the rules in their minds. And, so, He disqualifies himself in their minds. And, so, Jesus is basically like, “yeah. You can curse all kinds of things. You can say…you can spout off your mouth and run it as much as you want but when you curse the Spirit of God, when you blaspheme the Holy Spirit, that doesn’t bode well, which is exactly what the religious people are doing. They are calling the Spirit of God within Jesus, they are calling God’s Spirit the devil, in part because they’re jealous and envious of the way that the crowds are following Jesus and in part because they don’t understand what’s going on. They don’t have eyes to see her ears to hear. And, so, they’re calling a move of God, like not just a move of God, they’re calling God in the flesh who is moving, they’re calling Him Satan, they’re calling Him the devil. This is where He gets His power. It’s easy enough to look at that and go, “okay…well…you know…that’s Jesus and I would never do anything like that.” But when we curse people…when we call them of the devil because their theology doesn’t line up with ours, or their agenda, whether that be political or vocational or just life choices, if those aren’t in agreement with…with us and we start calling things the devil, it's…it’s tricky waters because we can do the same thing by calling the Spirit of God within them the devil because we can’t stand them, or we don’t agree with them or we don’t agree with some of the ways that they believe or we don’t agree with some of the things that they do or want to do. We have to be particularly careful about people who are…who are brothers and sisters who…who will claim the name of Jesus and then we curse them. A house divided against itself will collapse. And I’m not saying that we’re not observant or that we can’t look at the fruit. Like, Jesus says you’ll know by the fruit. But God works in counterintuitive ways and He does not care. He does not care what we think when it comes to do with His will. He’s going to perform His will through whoever He chooses however He chooses whenever He chooses. He is the Almighty God, and we have nothing to say about it. But labeling people as being empowered by evil, by the devil, if they aren’t explicitly claiming that we should be very careful. And the point of all this is that it should bring us to a place of humility. It’s important that we guard our own heart and our own mind, that we keep our eyes on our own lives. Are we walking the narrow path that leads to life? If we are then it’s gonna be very difficult for us to throw labels on people, labels that may be cursing the Spirit of God within them.

Prayer:

Holy Spirit, the last thing that we want to do is that. It’s the last thing that we want to participate in. And, so, we just ask for forgiveness for the things that happen to us that we react to that just have us moving in destructive ways. We need to keep our eyes on our heart. We need to keep our eyes on You. You will lead us into all truth. Nobody else is gonna do that because nobody else can, no matter what news channels we watch. You are the only one that’s gonna lead us into all truth. And, so, that’s where our focus is, not on making up names and labeling and all of the kinds of stuff that lead us into a house divided. Hey siblings it’s your little sis his little Cherry in Canada and I find myself praying a lot for people who are in chronic pain who are suffering. And tonight, I have been rereading second Corinthians 1 and I just want to pray for the suffering ones from second Corinthians 1 8 through 11. Daddy I want to pray for those who are crushed and overwhelmed beyond their ability to endure, those who think they’ll never live through it, those expecting to die, those who don’t have any hope left. I pray Daddy that Your plan and Your purpose would be fulfilled, that they would stop relying on themselves and learn to rely only on You who raise the dead. So, I’m praying for resurrection, resurrection of hope, that You would make a way where there seems to be no way, that You would part the sea, that You would make a road in the wilderness, Lord that You would answer their prayers in ways they haven’t even considered. Daddy, that You would rescue them from mortal danger and rescue them again and continue to rescue them, that their confidence would be in You and that all those who would…who are praying for them would give thanks to You for graciously answering so many prayers. So, Lord I add my prayers for those who are suffering.

Hi Daily Audio Bible family this is Renzo from Maryland. I just heard somebody called in on February 13th about just struggling with forgiveness and her name was Diana. And I just want to really like just pray that that can just go against that, we can just go against that spirit because that’s something that I struggle with myself. There was a time in my life where I struggled with an addiction to pornography and I got freed from it but then right after the same…like right after that season was over and God just gave me His everlasting love and He just helped me not struggle with that anymore I struggled with unforgiveness toward the people that made me fall into that and influenced me. And it got so bad where I didn’t even want to be in my own neighborhood, I didn’t want to be in my own area. It was really really bad. But I just want to pray that we can go against that because just like you said even…even Jesus forgave Judas Iscariot. And let’s just pray. Father God I just thank You for everything You bless us with Lord. And just please just help us to get closer and closer to You Lord and I just please pray for Diana that she just please just You help her with her unforgiveness Lord and whatever she’s going through God just please help her to get closer and closer to You Lord and we love You and we thank You Jesus for everything You do and thank for dying on the cross in Jesus name we pray. Hey Daily Audio Bible family this is John calling from Bethlehem it’s been a few weeks I feel like at least anyway since I called in but I just wanted to say hi and let you guys know that the Corrado’s are doing well here in Pennsylvania. We’re thinking of and praying of so many of you. I just wanted you to…to know that. And also, I just wanted to mention today as I got through listening to the 15th of February’s program and started to do the transcripts, just the very tail end of Exodus is just something that blows my mind. When we hear about God and His dwelling place and His presence filling the dwelling. It just reminded me so much of…well…here’s the scripture, right? The Lord’s cloud stayed over the dwelling during the day with lightning in it at night clearly visible to the whole household of Israel at every stage of the journey. And to me when I heard that, in so many…in so many aspects of Exodus really and all the work that we’re seeing go into the tent, the Tabernacle - God’s presence staying over the dwelling I just relayed that or related that to God’s presence in our own dwelling during the day with lightning at night like gods lightning power to heal us in the evening as we rest clearly visible to the whole household of Israel every stage of the journey us being light in the world for everyone to see. And Lord Jesus right now I just thank You so much for the opportunity to be able to be in Your word and as we as we seek You that You are always there for us Father God that You found us first and we just thank You for that and then we thank You for Your word and how it brings to light so much of Your goodness in Your grace and mercy. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

I pray everyone who is connected on social media that they will have discernment Lord. I pray that…that technology will not rule the lives of…of Your people, that they will that people will not be deceived, will be able to just connect themselves from that and seek You and be productive in their lives in a more personal here and now in the moment way I just pray that You will intervene and that You will break the addictions around technology Lord. The Daily Audio Bible Reading for Thursday February 18, 2021 (NIV)

Leviticus 6:1-7:27

[a] The Lord said to Moses, If you sin:

by acting unfaithfully against the Lord;

by deceiving a fellow citizen concerning a deposit or pledged property;

by cheating a fellow citizen through robbery;

or, though you’ve found lost property, you lie about it;

or by swearing falsely about anything that someone might do and so sin,

at that point, once you have sinned and become guilty of sin, you must return the property you took by robbery or fraud, or the deposit that was left with you for safekeeping, or the lost property that you found, or whatever it was that you swore falsely about. You must make amends for the principal amount and add one-fifth to it. You must give it to the owner on the day you become guilty. You must bring to the priest as your compensation to the Lord a flawless ram from the flock at the standard value as a compensation offering. The priest will make reconciliation for you before the Lord, and you will be forgiven for anything you may have done that made you guilty.

Priestly instructions

[b] The Lord said to Moses: Command Aaron and his sons: This is the Instruction for the entirely burned offering—the entirely burned offering that must remain on the altar hearth all night until morning, while the fire is kept burning. 10 The priest will dress in his linen robe, with linen undergarments on his body. Because the fire will have devoured the entirely burned offering on the altar, he must remove the ashes and place them beside the altar. 11 The priest will then take off his clothes, dress in a different set of clothes, and take the ashes outside the camp to a clean location. 12 The altar fire must be kept burning; it must not go out. Each morning the priest will burn wood on it, will lay out the entirely burned offering on it, and will completely burn the fat of the well-being offering on it. 13 A continuous fire must be kept burning on the altar; it must not go out.

14 This is the Instruction for the grain offering: Aaron’s sons will present it before the Lord in front of the altar. 15 The priest will remove a handful of the choice flour and oil from the grain offering, and all of the frankincense that is on it, and burn this token portion completely on the altar as a soothing smell to the Lord. 16 Aaron and his sons will eat the rest of it. It must be eaten as unleavened bread in a holy place; the priests must eat it in the meeting tent’s courtyard. 17 It must not be baked with leaven. I have made it the priests’ share from my food gifts. It is most holy like the purification offering and the compensation offering. 18 Only the males from Aaron’s descendants can eat it as a permanent portion from the Lord’s food gifts throughout your future generations. Anything that touches these food gifts will become holy.

19 The Lord said to Moses, 20 This is the offering that Aaron and his sons must present to the Lord on the day of his anointment: one-tenth of an ephah[c] of choice flour as a regular grain offering, half in the morning and half in the evening. 21 It must be prepared on a griddle with oil. You must bring it thoroughly mixed up and must present it as a grain offering of crumbled pieces[d] as a soothing smell to the Lord. 22 The priest who is anointed from among Aaron’s sons to succeed him will prepare the offering as a permanent portion for the Lord. It will be completely burned as a complete offering. 23 Every priestly grain offering must be a complete offering; it must not be eaten.

24 The Lord said to Moses, 25 Say to Aaron and his sons: This is the Instruction for the purification offering: The purification offering must be slaughtered before the Lord at the same place the entirely burned offering is slaughtered; it is most holy. 26 The priest who offers it as a purification offering will eat it. It must be eaten in a holy place, in the meeting tent’s courtyard. 27 Anything that touches the purification offering’s flesh will become holy. If some of its blood splashes on a garment, you must wash the bloodied part in a holy place. 28 A pottery container in which the purification offering is cooked must be broken, but if it is cooked in a bronze container, that must be scrubbed and rinsed with water. 29 Any male priest can eat it; it is most holy. 30 But no purification offering can be eaten if blood from it is brought into the meeting tent to make reconciliation in the holy place; it must be burned with fire.

This is the Instruction for the compensation offering: It is most holy. The compensation offering must be slaughtered at the same place where the entirely burned offering is slaughtered, and its blood must be tossed against all sides of the altar. All of its fat will be offered: the fat tail; the fat that covers the insides; the two kidneys and the fat around them at the loins; and the lobe on the liver, which must be removed with the kidneys. The priest must burn them completely on the altar as a food gift for the Lord; it is a compensation offering. Any male priest can eat it. It must be eaten in a holy place; it is most holy.

The compensation offering is like the purification offering—they share the same Instruction: It belongs to the priest who makes reconciliation with it. The hide of the entirely burned offering that a priest has offered belongs to the priest who offered it. Any grain offering that is baked in an oven or that is prepared in a pan or on a griddle also belongs to the priest who offered it. 10 But every other grain offering, whether mixed with oil or dry, will belong to all of Aaron’s sons equally.

11 This is the Instruction for the communal sacrifice of well-being that someone may offer to the Lord: 12 If you are offering it for thanksgiving, you must offer the following with the communal sacrifice of thanksgiving: unleavened flatbread mixed with oil, unleavened thin loaves spread with oil, and flatbread of choice flour thoroughly mixed with oil. 13 You must present this offering, plus the leavened flatbread, with the communal thanksgiving sacrifice of well-being. 14 From this you will present one of each kind of offering as a gift to the Lord. It will belong to the priest who tosses the blood of the well-being offering.

15 The flesh of your communal thanksgiving sacrifice of well-being must be eaten on the day you offer it; you cannot save any of it until morning. 16 But if your communal sacrifice of well-being is payment for a solemn promise or if it is a spontaneous gift, it may be eaten on the day you offer it as your communal sacrifice, and whatever is left over can be eaten the next day. 17 But whatever is left over of the flesh of the communal sacrifice on the third day must be burned with fire. 18 If any of it is eaten on the third day, it will not be accepted. It will not be credited to the one who offered it. It will be considered foul, and the person who eats of it will be liable to punishment.

19 Flesh that touches any unclean thing must not be eaten; it must be burned with fire. Any clean person may eat the flesh, 20 but anyone who eats the flesh of a communal sacrifice of well-being that belongs to the Lord while in an unclean state will be cut off from their people. 21 Whenever anyone touches any unclean thing—whether it is human uncleanness, an unclean animal, or any unclean and disgusting creature—and then eats the flesh of a communal sacrifice of well-being that belongs to the Lord, that person will be cut off from their people.

22 The Lord said to Moses: 23 Tell the Israelites: You must not eat the fat of an ox, sheep, or goat. 24 The fat of an animal that has died naturally or the fat of an animal that was killed by another animal may be put to any use, but you must definitely not eat it. 25 If anyone eats the fat of an animal from which a food gift could be offered to the Lord, that person will be cut off from their people. 26 You must not consume any blood whatsoever—whether bird or animal blood—wherever you may live. 27 Any person who consumes any blood whatsoever will be cut off from their people.

Mark 3:7-30

Healing and throwing demons out

Jesus left with his disciples and went to the lake. A large crowd followed him because they had heard what he was doing. They were from Galilee, Judea, Jerusalem, Idumea, beyond the Jordan, and the area surrounding Tyre and Sidon. Jesus told his disciples to get a small boat ready for him so the crowd wouldn’t crush him. 10 He had healed so many people that everyone who was sick pushed forward so that they could touch him. 11 Whenever the evil spirits saw him, they fell down at his feet and shouted, “You are God’s Son!” 12 But he strictly ordered them not to reveal who he was.

Jesus appoints twelve apostles

13 Jesus went up on a mountain and called those he wanted, and they came to him. 14 He appointed twelve and called them apostles. He appointed them to be with him, to be sent out to preach, 15 and to have authority to throw out demons. 16 He appointed twelve: Peter, a name he gave Simon; 17 James and John, Zebedee’s sons, whom he nicknamed Boanerges, which means “sons of Thunder”; 18 and Andrew; Philip; Bartholomew; Matthew; Thomas; James, Alphaeus’ son; Thaddaeus; Simon the Cananaean;[a] 19 and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus.

Misunderstandings about Jesus

20 Jesus entered a house. A crowd gathered again so that it was impossible for him and his followers even to eat. 21 When his family heard what was happening, they came to take control of him. They were saying, “He’s out of his mind!”

22 The legal experts came down from Jerusalem. Over and over they charged, “He’s possessed by Beelzebul. He throws out demons with the authority of the ruler of demons.”

23 When Jesus called them together he spoke to them in a parable: “How can Satan throw Satan out? 24 A kingdom involved in civil war will collapse. 25 And a house torn apart by divisions will collapse. 26 If Satan rebels against himself and is divided, then he can’t endure. He’s done for. 27 No one gets into the house of a strong person and steals anything without first tying up the strong person. Only then can the house be burglarized. 28 I assure you that human beings will be forgiven for everything, for all sins and insults of every kind. 29 But whoever insults the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven. That person is guilty of a sin with consequences that last forever.” 30 He said this because the legal experts were saying, “He’s possessed by an evil spirit.”

37 Don’t get upset over evildoers;
don’t be jealous of those who do wrong,
because they will fade fast, like grass;
they will wither like green vegetables.
Trust the Lord and do good;
live in the land, and farm faithfulness.
Enjoy the Lord,

Trust him! He will act

Leviticus 4:1-5:19, Mark 2:13-3:6, Psalms 36:1-12, Proverbs 10:1-2

Today is the 17th day of February welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I’m Brian it’s great to be here with you, hump day, as we move to the center of one of the 52 weeks that we have. I guess there’s 52 hump days, 52 centers of every week and here we are at another one crossing through the middle, heading into the back half. It’s wonderful to be able to share some time together around this Global Campfire to just step in, step in and out of all the other stuff that’s going on, and just take our place, relax, exhale, allow God’s word to speak into our lives. And, so, let’s continue the journey. We began the book of Leviticus yesterday. We will continue that journey today. Leviticus 4 and 5 and we’re reading from the Common English Bible this week.

Commentary:

Okay. Well…I got a great idea. Let’s talk…let’s talk about something we like to talk about. Let’s talk about sin. Let’s talk about sin, our probably favorite, one of our top favorite subjects to talk about, right? Sin. It’s like a confusing word. We know when we’ve done but it but it’s unclear like exactly what the parameters are. So, let’s begin by just trying to come to some sort of maybe common understanding about what we’re even talking about because there’s plenty of definitions for sin and…but…but it seems like from a biblical perspective sin is basically doing what we know we’re not supposed to do before God. And maybe even a better way of understanding that is simply asking ourselves, “could I have done that in the name of Jesus? Like, could I have done that representing the king and the kingdom?” And that makes it stark enough for us to go, “okay, now I know what we’re talkn’ about. Now I have some handholds here to understand what we’re talking about.” God has an order to things. We see it in the Scriptures, but we see it in the natural rhythms of life itself. And this perfect order, like if we were to say, “the way things were supposed to be” or “the way things that…the way things are supposed to be”, like perfectly in order according to the Lord’s will, then that would be called shalom. So, in effect. Sin is willingly interrupting shalom, whether in our own lives or whether in the lives of others, but sin is destructive, it leads to destruction because it separates us from God. And, so, if we want to perpetually live separated from God, then we are talking about the worst possible scenario that could ever happen. So, it actually is a big deal, it will kill us and separate us from God. So, kind of like a very, very toxic poison. If you have children you probably…like if they’re young children, like toddlers, you probably don’t let them play under the kitchen sink, right? Probably because there’s some toxic poison under there of some sort that is to be used for different purposes besides ingesting. And, so, we would want to impress upon our toddler that that’s off limits, that opening those cabinets is not allowed and if they persist we might even spank their hands, or we might even put them in a timeout, like we might punish them in some way so that they get clear because if they get into that cabinet and we don’t catch it, and they drink that poison it’s gonna destroy them. So, hopefully we’re kind of on the same page here. This is largely what we’re talking about in the book of Leviticus today. It just comes in the form of sacrifice, and we just have no way really to relate to animal sacrifice in most of the cultures that we live in. And, so, we come to this point in the Bible, this kind of notorious point in the Bible we’re you’re like, “what is going on here? I don’ relate any of this. What does this have to do with my life? This is so boring. This is like laws and rules and customs that nobody lives by anymore. What’s the big deal here?” And, so, this is where a lot of checking out happens and so we miss what’s actually going on, a discussion about the results of sin. And as God is weaving this into the culture it’s tedious, it’s a tedious thing. So, we can just glaze over, yawn, and go, “I don't…we don’t have to sacrifice animals. Thank God. Jesus is the last sacrifice” and just brush the whole thing off not understanding that there’s something really really deep going on here. Imagine that you did discover that you were…you were sinning whether unintentionally or whether you absolutely in rebellion did something that you knew you were not supposed to do and that you definitely could not do in the name of God. If…I…I mean I was gonna use like our…our…our pets as an example because that would be the closest example, we can get to to bring context, but let’s just skip that. Let’s just say we had goats or we had sheep or whatever and we fed them every day and we talked to them every day and we brushed them and we knew them and they were kind of part of the fabric of our family culture and they were…they were part of the story, like we got milk for our children or we made cheese whatever…whatever…whatever. Imagine that you have to go select one and that you…you have to select the perfect one, like your favorite one, like the best one, the most perfect thing of them all, and you have to take that and you have to put your hand on it before the priest, you have to put your hand on its head, and you gotta take a big blade and you have to slice its throat, right? And you have to bleed the blood out and the life leaves them and then…then it’s brought before the altar. Like if you had to do that it would be a stark reminder that sin is costing something. It’s costing something beautiful and perfect. It’s costing because it's…because it’s destroying. And, so, this animal serves as a stand in for what is deserved. So, I don’t know how to make this more clear other than like that would be hard to do right? Sin is the blade at your own throat. We’re not beginning to read the story of the bloodthirsty, angry, vengeful God. We’re reading the story of a God who wants us to starkly, clearly understand what will destroy us and separate us from Him, which is the last thing that either one of us wants. It’s a deterrent. It’s a…it’s like a road closed sign - don’t go down this path that leads to destruction. And let’s remember, nobody had to sacrifice anything if there wasn’t sin. And let’s remember that that is the work of Christ. And we can think about animal sacrifices as barbaric, but didn’t we just read the crucifixion a couple days ago in the book of Matthew for the first time this year? How much more barbaric can we get? And what we are observing is the last sacrifice for sin once and for all. So, as we continue this journey let's…let’s do…let’s stay rooted to the story. Like, I know we’re reading the law in the book of Leviticus and I know that the law is like I said, it’s not riveting reading, but it is not purposeless reading either. So, let’s stay rooted to where the journey is taking us and where God is leading us.

And I use that as a dovetail. Can we talk about something else for a quick minute? I know we’ve been talking already for a few minutes but today…today is a very important day that ties in with all of this, a very important day on the Christian calendar. Today is known as Ash Wednesday and this inaugurates a season known as Lent, a season that leads us right up to the day before Easter, 40 days from now. And most years I point this out and I say generally the same story, which is I didn’t grow up knowing anything other than the name Lent. And Ash Wednesday, I mean, I grew up seeing people with black smudges on their foreheads, occasionally moving around a city or a store or whatever, but not really even understanding what the point was. Maybe you have that smudge on your forehead today because you’ve gone to an Ash Wednesday service somewhere or maybe you’re familiar with the fact that this day inaugurates a season of repentance and lamentation of considering deeply what sin cost and where it leads. Everything that we just talked about. Jesus becoming that final sacrifice, that it cost the life of the precious beloved Savior is something that we should contemplate and meditate upon because it’s our sin. So, for centuries and centuries and centuries brothers and sisters all over the world have entered into this time of lamentation of fasting of repentance. And we may…you know…if we’ve never observed Lent or ever even understood really what the…what’s going on, then we may consider…well…it’s when you fast something, right? You decide you’re…you’re not gonna eat chocolate. That was like the most popular thing that…that I had I ever heard…like I’m not gonna eat a candy bar, I’m not gonna eat sugar for Lent. Or fasting social media for Lent. Or I’m going to fast certain foods for Lent or certain behaviors for Lent. That’s great, that’s fine, it’s important even. When we fast something that we crave then every time we crave what we are fasting it is an inherent reminder of why we are fasting, and we can press in to that. But I have to tell you, it’s maybe even less about fasting candy bars and more about understanding that this is a season in the year that is leading us to resurrection day. And resurrection day represents all things being made new within us again, that the resurrection power that raised Jesus from the dead, restored us to God, but sin separates us from God. And, so, really, to embrace Lent is to put everything on the table, not just candy bars. It’s to put everything on the table with open hands and say, “God I embrace this season that is leading me to all things being made new, but a season that reminds me that sin leads to death. And, so, I’m opening my hands and I’m loosening control over my life and saying what is here that is separating me from you? Identify that and show me how to walk away from it. Even things that I think, or thought were good habits and behaviors. Like Anything that is distracting me in some sort of way. I'm…I’m allowing you to take out of my life whatever needs to take…be taken and I’m allowing you to put into my life what needs to be there. And I’m allowing you to rearrange the things that are in my life so that they are aligned with the way that you would have me go in this next season of life.” So, this is a season to slow some things down and not be so frantic, to give some space to contemplation, some space to consideration, quiet consideration about what it took to give us the freedoms that we take for granted and still understanding that sin only leads one place and that is death. So, that’s a little about Lent. Maybe you’ve never observed Lent in any way before, it was a little weird or whatever. Maybe it’s not so weird. Maybe that the trajectory that the Christian calendar gives us, to contemplate the…the important parts of our lives helps us after the same fashion that the law that we’re reading the book of Leviticus, where everything that these people do reminds them of something deeper. Lent actually does this. And, so, maybe something to consider as we move through the next weeks toward new life toward resurrection through the end of the winter and moving into the springtime here in the northern hemisphere. Lent let’s us sit with where we are and hope for where were going.

Prayer:

Jesus, we thank You. We thank You in advance, we thank You continually for Your sacrifice, for Your love that is so profound that it is really impossible to articulate. We’ve been trying to find the right words for thousands of years and we’ve said many many beautiful things, but it’s still beyond us, Your beautiful life sacrificed in exchange for our rebellion. And as we enter into this season, we want to sit with it. We…we ask Your Holy Spirit to make it stark and clear to us what’s happening when we when…when we participate in sin, because when we participate in sin against our brothers and sisters, against You, we are perpetuating darkness, we are bringing the darkness and allowing it to have its way with us. Your sacrifice informs us that that is not how it has to be. So, come Holy Spirit. Show us where we are. Show us what’s going on inside. Show us the things that are drawing us away from You and toward destruction. Help us to own these things instead of blaming somebody else or some other set of circumstances. Help us to own our lives, own our sin and repent because we know that we are ashes to ashes and dust to dust. We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Leviticus 4-5

The purification offering

The Lord said to Moses, Say to the Israelites: Do the following whenever someone sins unintentionally against any of the Lord’s commands, doing something that shouldn’t be done:

If it is the anointed priest who has sinned, making the people guilty of sin, he must present to the Lord a flawless bull from the herd as a purification offering[a] for the sin he has committed. He will bring the bull before the Lord at the entrance to the meeting tent and press his hand on the bull’s head. Then he will slaughter the bull before the Lord. The anointed priest will take some of the bull’s blood and take it into the meeting tent. The priest will dip his finger into the blood and sprinkle some of it seven times before the Lord, toward the sanctuary’s inner curtain. Then the priest will put some of the blood on the horns of the altar of perfumed incense, which is in the meeting tent before the Lord. But he will pour out all the rest of the bull’s blood at the base of the altar of entirely burned offerings, which is at the meeting tent’s entrance. Then he will remove all the fat from the bull for the purification offering: the fat that covers and surrounds the insides; the two kidneys and the fat around them at the loins; and the lobe on the liver, which he will remove with the kidneys, 10 just as this is removed from the ox for the communal sacrifice of well-being. Then the priest will completely burn these on the altar of entirely burned offerings. 11 But the bull’s hide and all of its flesh, along with its head, lower legs, entrails, and dung— 12 all that remains of the bull—will be taken to a clean location outside the camp, to the ash heap. It should be burned there at the ash heap on a wood fire.

13 If it is the entire Israelite community that has done something wrong unintentionally and the deed escapes the assembly’s notice—but they’ve done something that shouldn’t be done in violation of the Lord’s commands, becoming guilty of sin— 14 once the sin that they committed becomes known, the assembly must present a bull from the herd as a purification offering. They will bring it before the meeting tent. 15 The community elders will press their hands on the bull’s head before the Lord and then slaughter it before the Lord. 16 The anointed priest will take some of the bull’s blood into the meeting tent. 17 The priest will dip his finger into the blood and sprinkle it seven times before the Lord toward the inner curtain. 18 Then he will put some of the blood on the horns of the altar that is before the Lord in the meeting tent. But he will pour all the rest of the blood out at the base of the altar of entirely burned offerings that is at the meeting tent’s entrance. 19 Then he will remove all the fat from it and completely burn it on the altar. 20 He will do the same with this bull as he did with the other bull for the purification offering; that is exactly what he must do. In this way, the priest will make reconciliation for them, and they will be forgiven. 21 Then the priest will take the bull outside the camp and burn it, just as the first bull was burned. It is the purification offering for the assembly.

22 If a leader sins by unintentionally breaking any of the commands of the Lord his God, doing something that shouldn’t be done, and becomes guilty of sin— 23 once the sin that he committed is made known to him—he must bring as his offering a flawless male goat. 24 He will press his hand on the goat’s head. It will be slaughtered[b] at the place where an entirely burned offering would be slaughtered before the Lord. It is a purification offering. 25 The priest will take some of the blood from the purification offering and, using his finger, will put it on the horns of the altar of entirely burned offerings. But he will pour the rest of the blood out at the base of the altar of entirely burned offerings. 26 He will completely burn all of its fat on the altar just as the fat of the communal sacrifice of well-being is burned. In this way the priest will make reconciliation for the leader to remove his sin, and he will be forgiven.

27 If any ordinary person[c] sins unintentionally by breaking one of the Lord’s commands, doing something that shouldn’t be done, and becomes guilty of sin— 28 once the sin they committed is made known to them—they must bring as their offering a flawless female goat because of the sin that was committed. 29 They will press their hand on the head of the purification offering. It will be slaughtered[d] at the place for the entirely burned offerings. 30 The priest will take some of its blood and, using his finger, will put it on the horns of the altar of entirely burned offerings. But he will pour all the rest of the blood out at the base of the altar. 31 He will remove all of its fat, just as the fat from a communal sacrifice of well-being is removed. Then the priest will completely burn it on the altar as a soothing smell to the Lord. In this way, the priest will make reconciliation for them, and they will be forgiven.

32 If you offer a sheep as a purification offering, it must be a flawless female. 33 You must press your hand on the head of the purification offering. It will be slaughtered[e] as a purification offering in the place where the entirely burned offering is slaughtered. 34 Then the priest will take some of the blood from the purification offering and, using his finger, will put it on the horns of the altar of entirely burned offerings. But he will pour all the rest of the blood out at the base of the altar. 35 He will remove all of its fat, just as the fat of a sheep would be removed from the communal sacrifice of well-being. Then the priest will completely burn it on the altar along with the Lord’s food gifts. In this way, the priest will make reconciliation for you for the sin you committed, and you will be forgiven.

Unintentional sin

If you sin:

by not providing information after hearing a public solemn pledge even though you are a witness, knowing something, or having seen something so that you become liable to punishment;

or by touching some unclean thing—the dead body of an unclean wild animal, unclean livestock, or unclean swarming creature—but the fact goes unknown so that you become unclean and guilty of sin;

or by touching human uncleanness—any uncleanness that makes one unclean—and the fact goes unknown, but you later learn of it and become guilty of sin;

or by carelessly swearing to do something, whether bad or good—whatever one might swear carelessly—and the fact goes unknown, but you later learn of it and become guilty of sin concerning one of these things—

at that point, when you have become guilty of sin in one of these ways, you must confess how you have sinned and bring to the Lord as compensation for the sin that was committed a female from the flock, either a sheep or goat, as a purification offering. The priest will then make reconciliation for you, to remove your sin.

Alternative offerings

If you can’t afford an animal from the flock, you can bring to the Lord as compensation for your sin two doves or two pigeons, one as a purification offering and the other as an entirely burned offering. You will bring them to the priest, who will first present the one for the purification offering. He will pinch off its head at the back of its neck without splitting it. Then he will sprinkle some of the blood of the purification offering on the side of the altar. The rest of the blood will be drained out at the base of the altar. It is a purification offering. 10 Then, with the second bird, the priest will perform an entirely burned offering according to the regulation. In this way, the priest will make reconciliation for you because of the sin you committed, and you will be forgiven.

11 If you cannot afford two doves or two pigeons, you can bring as the offering for your sin a tenth of an ephah[f] of choice flour as a purification offering. You must not put any oil on it, nor any frankincense, because it is a purification offering. 12 You will bring it to the priest, and the priest will take a handful from it—the token portion—and will burn it completely on the altar along with the food gifts for the Lord. It is a purification offering. 13 In this way, the priest will make reconciliation for you for whichever one of the sins you committed, and you will be forgiven. The rest of the offering will belong to the priest like the grain offering.

The compensation offering

14 The Lord said to Moses, 15 Whenever you commit wrongdoing, unintentionally sinning against any of the Lord’s holy things, you must bring to the Lord as your compensation a flawless ram from the flock, its value calculated in silver shekels according to the sanctuary’s shekel, as a compensation offering. 16 You will make amends for the way you have sinned against the holy thing: you will add one-fifth to its value and give it to the priest. Then the priest will make reconciliation for you with the ram for the compensation offering, and you will be forgiven.

17 If you sin by breaking any of the Lord’s commands, but without realizing it, doing something that shouldn’t be done, and then become guilty and liable to punishment, 18 you must bring a flawless ram from the flock, at the standard value, as a compensation offering to the priest. The priest will make reconciliation for you for the unintentional fault that you committed, even though you didn’t realize it, and you will be forgiven. 19 It is a compensation offering. You have definitely become guilty before the Lord.

Mark 2:13-3:6

Eating with sinners

13 Jesus went out beside the lake again. The whole crowd came to him, and he began to teach them. 14 As he continued along, he saw Levi, Alphaeus’ son, sitting at a kiosk for collecting taxes. Jesus said to him, “Follow me.” Levi got up and followed him.

15 Jesus sat down to eat at Levi’s house. Many tax collectors and sinners were eating with Jesus and his disciples. Indeed, many of them had become his followers. 16 When some of the legal experts from among the Pharisees saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, they asked his disciples, “Why is he eating with sinners and tax collectors?”

17 When Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor, but sick people do. I didn’t come to call righteous people, but sinners.”

When to fast

18 John’s disciples and the Pharisees had a habit of fasting. Some people asked Jesus, “Why do John’s disciples and the Pharisees’ disciples fast, but yours don’t?”

19 Jesus said, “The wedding guests can’t fast while the groom is with them, can they? As long as they have the groom with them, they can’t fast. 20 But the days will come when the groom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.

21 “No one sews a piece of new, unshrunk cloth on old clothes; otherwise, the patch tears away from it, the new from the old, and makes a worse tear. 22 No one pours new wine into old leather wineskins; otherwise, the wine would burst the wineskins and the wine would be lost and the wineskins destroyed. But new wine is for new wineskins.”

Scripture and the Sabbath

23 Jesus went through the wheat fields on the Sabbath. As the disciples made their way, they were picking the heads of wheat. 24 The Pharisees said to Jesus, “Look! Why are they breaking the Sabbath law?”

25 He said to them, “Haven’t you ever read what David did when he was in need, when he and those with him were hungry? 26 During the time when Abiathar was high priest, David went into God’s house and ate the bread of the presence, which only the priests were allowed to eat. He also gave bread to those who were with him.” 27 Then he said, “The Sabbath was created for humans; humans weren’t created for the Sabbath. 28 This is why the Human One[a] is Lord even over the Sabbath.”

Healing on the Sabbath

Jesus returned to the synagogue. A man with a withered hand was there. Wanting to bring charges against Jesus, they were watching Jesus closely to see if he would heal on the Sabbath. He said to the man with the withered hand, “Step up where people can see you.” Then he said to them, “Is it legal on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they said nothing. Looking around at them with anger, deeply grieved at their unyielding hearts, he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” So he did, and his hand was made healthy. At that, the Pharisees got together with the supporters of Herod to plan how to destroy Jesus.

36 I know the sinful utterance of the wicked:[a]
No fear of God confronts their own eyes,
because in their own eyes they are slick with talk
about their guilt ever being found out and despised.[b]
The words of their mouths are evil and dishonest.
They have stopped being wise and stopped doing good.
They plot evil even while resting in bed!
They commit themselves to a path that is no good.
They don’t reject what is evil.

But your loyal love, Lord, extends to the skies;
your faithfulness reaches the clouds.
Your righteousness is like the strongest mountains;
your justice is like the deepest sea.
Lord, you save both humans and animals.
Your faithful love is priceless, God!
Humanity finds refuge in the shadow of your wings.
They feast on the bounty of your house;

Today is the 16th day of February welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian and it’s great to be here with you today as we continue the journey that we began, what, six weeks ago? And now we are…well…we’re out of sight of land. We’re in this together. We’re gonna sail all the way across this year and into all the different territory that the Bible takes us into. And today is one of those days where we’re kind of transitioning, kinda and kinda not. I mean we’re kind of picking up where we left off, but we are switching into a new book.

Introduction to the book of Leviticus:

We will begin the book of Leviticus today which is the third book of the Torah are the Pentateuch and certainly was indeed written to the children of Israel. Just recounting what we covered in Exodus. Obviously, the plagues and the freedom from slavery in all of the drama that that entailed and then into the wilderness, which is where the Lord instructed His people to go. He didn’t take them by the main route, the easy, the direct route into the land that they were promised. He took them out into the thick of the desert and that is not purposeless, neither is the wilderness in our own lives. And that’s one of the themes that we should be picking up on. The wilderness actually matters. In this case the wilderness matters because God is taking His people into a situation where they have no hope other than to utterly depend upon Him for survival. The irony is, that is the reality of life it’s just that we turn to so many distractions and try to become our own sovereign and prepare for all of our own eventualities and become strong in our own sight only to find out how quickly that can all just disappear. So, the children of Israel, they’ve only ever been slaves. This is a lesson that they need to learn, and they are learning it. We spent a lot of time around Mount Sinai, the mountain of God where Moses very, very clearly becomes the leader and the prophet of God in their sight. Also, where God comes and…and intends to speak directly with His people. That was His intention, but the people were freaked out and asked Moses to do all the talking, which is where we find ourselves. And then God begins to give out the ordinances and the statutes beginning to weave together the tapestry that will become the early Hebrew people, the culture of the early Jewish people. So, as we flip the page and begin the book of Leviticus we’ve been out of Egypt and out of slavery for about a year and God is establishing a covenantal relationship with these people. And, so, we’re going to be spending some time understanding the ordinances and customs and rituals and laws that govern this newly formed people. And one of the things that we’ll notice, if we’re paying attention, is that there are themes to what’s going on here. Like, I think of my own country. Like, I live in the United States. I was born here. I’m a citizen of this country. I don’t know all of the nuances of the governing law of all the nations of the world, although they’re very diverse, but here we have laws and whether we agree with them or don’t agree with them they structure, they weave together the culture that we live in, the boundaries of how we conduct ourselves toward one another in just about every conceivable scenario. And for us this is supposed to, this is supposed to all be working toward one goal which is to fulfill the…the dream of our Constitution. “we the people, in order to form a more perfect union.” So, conceivably the laws that govern the land are aimed at that goal. In the Scriptures as God is weaving together the laws and customs and rituals, the things that govern the conduct toward the people toward each other and toward God, we see that the covenant or the agreement being established is to set these people apart so that they would understand holiness, which is being set apart to God, being set apart to God so that we are available to do God’s work and represent His intentions upon the earth. And holiness is a huge thing. God tells them, “I’m holy therefore you’re gonna be holy.” Or maybe to use more modern vernacular, “if…if we’re gonna be in communion…if we’re gonna commune together, if we’re gonna be in covenant together, if we’re gonna be in fellowship and enjoy each other’s presence than it will happen through holiness.” Now, as we get deeper and deeper into the Leviticus, we’re gonna find a lot of sacrifice in this book because there’s a lot of sacrifice in this book. And if we approach the work that we’re moving through, the book of Leviticus, or for that matter, the Torah that we’re moving through, if we understand that this was inspired thousands of years ago and if we try to read it thousands of years in the future through the lens of how we understand the world today with the technology that we have and the advancements that have come in the last several thousand years then we won’t be able to relate to the people as a culture. It won’t look anything like our own, and it will look like a culture that we don’t want to be a part of, right? It’ll seem barbaric, antiquated and irrelevant. We’re reading back into a time when the world was largely tribal and we are reading about tribes, the…the 12 tribes of Israel. We’re looking back into this time and God is weaving something together that they completely understand although this is a giant leap forward in governance for the way the people are to conduct themselves toward one another. In fact, it set off things in motion that allowed over the millennia us to get to where we are. And we’re not…nobody’s got a perfect society. No matter what country you live in none of us have a perfect society because we’re…we’re cultures built of a broken people, but the things dramatically began to move forward with this example being set here in the book of Leviticus. And I get it. Nobody goes to the library…I say this most every year…nobody usually goes to the library to check out law books unless you’re studying to be an attorney or unless you are a lawyer. Like unless the law is your thing, like reading…reading covenantal language, which is what agreements are. Like reading the laws because although it would be good if we understood…like it would be good if we did this in our cultures and understood the laws of our land and understood why they were created and what they’re supposed to accomplish, but I admittedly it’s not riveting. You’re not so engaged with it that it’s just such a page turner. It’s the law. We’re reading the laws that are being laid down to establish a people who are supposed to continually in every way remind…be reminded that they are set apart to God. So, we’ll read plenty of sacrifices and go, “like I’ve never seen an animal sacrifice in my life, and I don’t ever want to see an animal sacrifice in my life. It sounds like a horrible thing to witness.” This is just part of the normal world at this time. And as I’ve suggested many times during our journey so far, we have to look behind the story. We have to look behind what is the motive for these laws. What’s happening here? And what we begin to realize is that if the law is obeyed then the people have built in governing mechanism that reminds them in every way in everything that they do of their identity and who God is and where they are going together with God. And, so, let’s remember all of that as we begin the next leg of the journey, the book of Leviticus. We’re reading from the Common English Bible this week and we’ll read the first three chapters of Leviticus today.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word and certainly from the book of Proverbs, we ask Holy Spirit, help us to see the folly before we enter into it, before it destroys us. Help us to see it and keep going on our way not moving…diverting to the left of the right. Help us to have wisdom and discernment. We need it. We can’t navigate without Your counsel, without wisdom’s advice. And, so, we ask again for it. We also thank You for the new territory that we’ve entered into these last couple of days, into the…the gospel of Mark and into the book of Leviticus. And we ask Holy Spirit, come. Even as we’ve discussed these books over the last couple of days understanding the context, understanding the lay of the land. Now that we have that we ask that You help us to enter into it appropriately, properly, understanding the context and being able to look behind it all and see how You are shaping the heart of mankind, how You are drawing us in everything that we do to remind us of who we are and who You are and that we are in covenant together. We…we confess we’re distracted. We forget all kinds of things all the time and now we are seeing that this has been going on a long time. It’s not a new phenomenon, that You are weaving into the tapestry of this new culture reminders in everything that we do. Show us how to build different reminders into our own lives, different practices into our own lives that continually register with us, who we are and who You are and that we are in covenant together, that we are going somewhere together. Come Holy Spirit we pray. In the name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.

You didn’t leave your name brother but you so grabbed me. You…matter fact you took me back and it wasn’t a real pleasant experience to have to go back there. So, shame on you. But no, seriously. Brother, I remember when. We’re talking about probably between 12 and 10 and 12 years back when our adult children, two of our adult children were living with us and long story short it was the ride of my life, I felt like, and it was not a fun experience. And the Lord had to take me to a place where I had to die to Daniel. And, so, first of all I salute you my brother that you’re calling to…to admit that you’re not in a good place. I so remember. Oh…oh man…I remember. And, so, I just want you to know I’m standing in the gap with you and believing that God is working on you because that’s where it all begins. We…we are the priests of the home and if we’re not in the right place as you admitted to then nobody basically is going to be right. So, Father strengthen Your son and help him in his very trying time that he’s dealing with his son through marriage where his son is not in the right place and he’s not spiritually where he needs to be. I pray that You would help this man to get to where he needs to be so that then the family will follow suit in Jesus’ name. Amen. Praying for you brother.

This is Laquita from Veneda Oklahoma. I want to pray for my sister in California that’s having trouble with her housing. She called in on February the 12th. Father I just lift up my sister. I pray that You give her favor, that You give her wisdom. Father I pray Father Lord that You would send the right people her way Lord to help her and Lord that her house would be repaired Father in Jesus’ name. Father that You would just give her the desires of her heart, that You would send forth or a friend who will show her love and compassion Father Lord and let her know that You’re always with her period. You said that You’d never leave or forsake us Father God. And Lord just surround her with Your love, Your mercy, Your grace, Your peace. Help her financially Father Lord. Bless her children and Father just lead her down the path that You’ve called her to in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Hello good morning I’m calling from…from snowy cold Canada this morning and I’m just reflecting on Brian’s reading of Matthew 27 versus 32 to 66 this morning and I just wrote down some reflections and I just wanted to share that with you all today. So, we, in this reading Jesus is at the hardest moment of the cross and He cries out, my God my God why have You abandoned Me. If Jesus can cry out these words, I am certain that we who are so much weaker can also struggle that moment when we feel abandoned by God, that moment of complete heartache, that moment of tremendous fear, that moment of utter aloneness. Yet we see that Jesus after saying these words died and it was only through His death that He experienced true freedom, that He understood God’s plan, that He was risen to a new way of living. So, Father we two journey in the same way. We reach that moment of feeling abandoned but we must choose. We can harden our hearts and turn completely from You or we can choose to die to ourselves and surrender to Your plans. Help us Father in our darkest moment to be willing to die to ourselves to surrender to You. In You, Father is the hope of new life. Help us. Help me Father to fall into Your arms. Just pray that today for all of us. May you be encouraged.

Father God we thank You when we come into Your presence where aware at times that it is a sacrifice to pray to You. But Lord we gladly offer this up to You and we lift our voices in praise. And what we have learned lord is when we turn to You away from what’s hurting our hearts and our minds and our bodies Lord, that as we turn to You in praise we are lifted, we are lifted in spirit and all that…all that would try to hold us back Father loses its grip in the light of You. So, we thank You Lord and we thank You for the joy that You pour over us when we offer up our praise to You. In the House of the Lord, in the body of Christ. Isn’t good Pete? Amen. It is. Good morning and happy Valentine’s Day DAB family. Of course, by the time you hear this it won’t be Valentine’s Day, but my sentiments are still the same. This is Mommy’s Little Rock from Arkansas and I just wanted to lift up those of us who, like myself, are feeling alone today on a day that’s usually spent loving a…a loved one or a spouse and all of the balloons and of course the candy which I’m eaten today regardless. And I just want you to know that even though today is historically spent with someone in a relationship or what have you, I want you to know that love is still there and I’m praying for all of those that feel alone. If you’re single and you’re wondering when the Lord is gonna send you someone, I’m with you on that too. Today is usually a day when my mom who passed away in December, so I’m still mourning and grieving or not being here, but she would normally send some type of flower arrangement or a card to me on Valentine’s Day and she would always sign it, “your secret admirer” as if…as if I didn’t know who sent it. So, I’m just…I’m thinking about that today and I’m also thinking about you all and praying for you all and I just want you to know that even though you feel alone you’re not alone. The DAB family has you in our prayers and that God has you, He’s with you when you’re feeling this way. He knows when the time will be for Him to send you someone special. And I want you to hold on to that and know that He has you in His heart and in His hand. So, stay encouraged. I love you. Bye.

The Daily Audio Bible Reading for Tuesday February 16, 2021 (NIV)

Leviticus 1-3

Then the Lord called to Moses and said to him from the meeting tent, Speak to the Israelites and say to them: When any of you present a livestock offering to the Lord, you can present it from either the herd or the flock.

The entirely burned offering

If the offering is an entirely burned offering from the herd, you must present a flawless male, bringing it to the meeting tent’s entrance for its acceptance before the Lord. You must press your hand on the head of the entirely burned offering so that it will be accepted for you, to make reconciliation for you. Then you will slaughter the bull before the Lord. Aaron’s sons the priests will present the blood and toss it against every side of the altar at the meeting tent’s entrance. Then the entirely burned offering will be skinned and cut up into pieces. The sons of Aaron the priest[a] will light the altar and lay wood on the fire. Then Aaron’s sons the priests will arrange the pieces, the head, and the fat on the wood that is on the altar fire, but the animal’s insides and lower legs must be washed with water. The priest will then completely burn all of it on the altar as an entirely burned offering, a food gift[b] of soothing smell to the Lord.

10 If the offering is an entirely burned offering from the flock—whether sheep or goat—you must present a flawless male. 11 You must slaughter it on the north side of the altar before the Lord. Aaron’s sons the priests will toss its blood against every side of the altar. 12 Once it has been cut into pieces, including the head and the fat, the priest will arrange these out on the wood that is on the altar fire, 13 but its insides and lower legs must be washed with water. Then the priest will present all of it and completely burn it on the altar. It is an entirely burned offering, a food gift of soothing smell to the Lord.

14 If the offering for the Lord is an entirely burned offering from the birds, you can present your offering from the doves or pigeons. 15 The priest will bring it to the altar. He will tear off its head and completely burn it on the altar. Its blood will be drained against the side of the altar. 16 Then the priest will remove its throat along with its contents[c] and throw it by the east side of the altar, into the place for the ashes. 17 He will then tear the bird open by its wings, without splitting it. The priest will completely burn it on the altar, on the wood that is on the altar fire. It is an entirely burned offering, a food gift of soothing smell to the Lord.

The grain offering

When anyone presents a grain offering to the Lord, the offering must be of choice flour. They must pour oil on it and put frankincense on it, then bring it to Aaron’s sons, the priests. A priest will take a handful of its choice flour and oil, along with all of its frankincense, and will completely burn this token portion on the altar as a food gift of soothing smell to the Lord. The rest of the grain offering belongs to Aaron and his sons as a most holy portion from the Lord’s food gifts.

When you present a grain offering baked in an oven, it must be of choice flour: unleavened flatbread mixed with oil or unleavened wafers spread with oil. If your offering is grain prepared on a griddle, it must be of choice flour mixed with oil and it must be unleavened. Crumble it into pieces and pour oil on it; it is a grain offering. If your offering is grain prepared in a pan, it must be made of choice flour with oil. You will bring the grain offering made in one of these ways to the Lord, presenting it to the priest, who will then bring it to the altar. The priest will remove from the grain offering the token portion and completely burn it on the altar as a food gift of soothing smell to the Lord. 10 The rest of the grain offering belongs to Aaron and his sons as a most holy portion from the Lord’s food gifts.

11 No grain offering that you give to the Lord can be made with yeast. You must not completely burn any yeast or honey as a food gift for the Lord. 12 You can present those as first-choice offerings to the Lord, but they must not be entirely burned up on the altar as a soothing smell.

13 You must season all your grain offerings with salt. Do not omit the salt of your God’s covenant from your grain offering. You must offer salt with all your offerings.

14 If you present a grain offering to the Lord from the first produce, you must make such an offering from the crushed heads of newly ripe grain, roasted with fire. 15 You must put oil and frankincense on it; it is a grain offering. 16 The priest will completely burn the token portion—some of the crushed new grain and oil along with all of the frankincense—as a food gift for the Lord.

The well-being sacrifice

If the offering is a communal sacrifice of well-being,[d] the one who offers the herd animal—whether it is male or female—must present a flawless specimen before the Lord. You must press your hand on the head of the offering and slaughter it at the meeting tent’s entrance. Aaron’s sons the priests will toss the blood against every side of the altar. Then you can offer a food gift to the Lord from the communal sacrifice of well-being: the fat that covers and surrounds the insides; the two kidneys and the fat around them at the loins; and the lobe on the liver, which should be removed with the kidneys. Aaron’s sons will completely burn all of this on the altar—along with the entirely burned offering on the wood that is on the altar fire—as a food gift of soothing smell to the Lord.

If the offering for a communal sacrifice of well-being for the Lord is from the flock—whether it is male or female—you must present a flawless specimen. If you present a sheep as the offering, you must present it before the Lord. You must press your hand on the head of the offering and slaughter it before the meeting tent. Aaron’s sons will toss the blood against every side of the altar. Then you may offer the fat from the communal sacrifice of well-being as a food gift for the Lord: the whole fat tail, which should be removed close to the tailbone; the fat that covers and surrounds the insides; 10 the two kidneys and the fat around them at the loins; and the lobe on the liver, which should be removed with the kidneys. 11 The priest will then completely burn all of this on the altar as food—as a food gift for the Lord.

12 If the offering is a goat, you must present it before the Lord. 13 You must press your hand on its head and slaughter it before the meeting tent. Aaron’s sons will toss its blood against every side of the altar. 14 Then you may present as your offering—a food gift for the Lord—the fat that covers and surrounds the insides; 15 the two kidneys and the fat around them at the loins; and the lobe on the liver, which should be removed with the kidneys. 16 The priest will then completely burn all of this on the altar as food—as a food gift for a soothing smell.

All fat belongs to the Lord. 17 This is a permanent rule for your future generations, wherever you live: you must not eat any fat or blood.

Mark 1:29-2:12

Jesus heals Simon’s mother-in-law

29 After leaving the synagogue, Jesus, James, and John went home with Simon and Andrew. 30 Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed, sick with a fever, and they told Jesus about her at once. 31 He went to her, took her by the hand, and raised her up. The fever left her, and she served them.

Jesus’ ministry spreads

32 That evening, at sunset, people brought to Jesus those who were sick or demon-possessed. 33 The whole town gathered near the door. 34 He healed many who were sick with all kinds of diseases, and he threw out many demons. But he didn’t let the demons speak, because they recognized him.

35 Early in the morning, well before sunrise, Jesus rose and went to a deserted place where he could be alone in prayer. 36 Simon and those with him tracked him down. 37 When they found him, they told him, “Everyone’s looking for you!”

38 He replied, “Let’s head in the other direction, to the nearby villages, so that I can preach there too. That’s why I’ve come.” 39 He traveled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and throwing out demons.

A man with a skin disease

40 A man with a skin disease approached Jesus, fell to his knees, and begged, “If you want, you can make me clean.”

41 Incensed,[a] Jesus reached out his hand, touched him, and said, “I do want to. Be clean.” 42 Instantly, the skin disease left him, and he was clean. 43 Sternly, Jesus sent him away, 44 saying, “Don’t say anything to anyone. Instead, go and show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifice for your cleansing that Moses commanded. This will be a testimony to them.” 45 Instead, he went out and started talking freely and spreading the news so that Jesus wasn’t able to enter a town openly. He remained outside in deserted places, but people came to him from everywhere.

Healing and forgiveness

After a few days, Jesus went back to Capernaum, and people heard that he was at home. So many gathered that there was no longer space, not even near the door. Jesus was speaking the word to them. Some people arrived, and four of them were bringing to him a man who was paralyzed. They couldn’t carry him through the crowd, so they tore off part of the roof above where Jesus was. When they had made an opening, they lowered the mat on which the paralyzed man was lying. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Child, your sins are forgiven!”

Some legal experts were sitting there, muttering among themselves, “Why does he speak this way? He’s insulting God. Only the one God can forgive sins.”

Jesus immediately recognized what they were discussing, and he said to them, “Why do you fill your minds with these questions? Which is easier—to say to a paralyzed person, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, take up your bed, and walk’? 10 But so you will know that the Human One[b] has authority on the earth to forgive sins”—he said to the man who was paralyzed, 11 “Get up, take your mat, and go home.”

12 Jesus raised him up, and right away he picked up his mat and walked out in front of everybody. They were all amazed and praised God, saying, “We’ve never seen anything like this!”

Psalm 35:17-28

17 How long, my Lord, will you watch this happen?
Rescue me from their attacks;
rescue my precious life from these predatory lions!
18 Then I will thank you in the great assembly;
I will praise you in a huge crowd of people.
19 Don’t let those who are my enemies
without cause celebrate over me;
don’t let those who hate me for no reason
wink at my demise.
20 They don’t speak the truth;
instead, they plot false accusations
against innocent people in the land.
21 They speak out against me,
saying, “Yes! Oh, yes! We’ve seen it with our own eyes!”

22 But you’ve seen it too, Lord.
Don’t keep quiet about it.
Please don’t be far from me, my Lord.
23 Wake up! Get up and do justice for me;
argue my case, my Lord and my God!
24 Establish justice for me
according to your righteousness, Lord, my God.
Don’t let them celebrate over me.
25 Don’t let them say to themselves,
Yes! Exactly what we wanted!

26 Let all those who celebrate my misfortune be disgraced and put to shame!

“Woman Folly’s” invitation

13 Woman Folly is noisy;
she’s stupid and doesn’t even know it.
14 She sits at the doorway of her house,
on a seat at the city heights.
15 She invites those who pass by on the path,
those going straight on their way.
16 “Whoever is naive, come in here,”
she says to those who lack sense.
17 “Stolen water is sweet;
food eaten in secret is pleasant.”
18 But they don’t know that the dead are there;
her guests are in the depths of the grave.[a]
