Leviticus 1-3

Then the Lord called to Moses and said to him from the meeting tent, Speak to the Israelites and say to them: When any of you present a livestock offering to the Lord, you can present it from either the herd or the flock.

The entirely burned offering

If the offering is an entirely burned offering from the herd, you must present a flawless male, bringing it to the meeting tent’s entrance for its acceptance before the Lord. You must press your hand on the head of the entirely burned offering so that it will be accepted for you, to make reconciliation for you. Then you will slaughter the bull before the Lord. Aaron’s sons the priests will present the blood and toss it against every side of the altar at the meeting tent’s entrance. Then the entirely burned offering will be skinned and cut up into pieces. The sons of Aaron the priest[a] will light the altar and lay wood on the fire. Then Aaron’s sons the priests will arrange the pieces, the head, and the fat on the wood that is on the altar fire, but the animal’s insides and lower legs must be washed with water. The priest will then completely burn all of it on the altar as an entirely burned offering, a food gift[b] of soothing smell to the Lord.

10 If the offering is an entirely burned offering from the flock—whether sheep or goat—you must present a flawless male. 11 You must slaughter it on the north side of the altar before the Lord. Aaron’s sons the priests will toss its blood against every side of the altar. 12 Once it has been cut into pieces, including the head and the fat, the priest will arrange these out on the wood that is on the altar fire, 13 but its insides and lower legs must be washed with water. Then the priest will present all of it and completely burn it on the altar. It is an entirely burned offering, a food gift of soothing smell to the Lord.

14 If the offering for the Lord is an entirely burned offering from the birds, you can present your offering from the doves or pigeons. 15 The priest will bring it to the altar. He will tear off its head and completely burn it on the altar. Its blood will be drained against the side of the altar. 16 Then the priest will remove its throat along with its contents[c] and throw it by the east side of the altar, into the place for the ashes. 17 He will then tear the bird open by its wings, without splitting it. The priest will completely burn it on the altar, on the wood that is on the altar fire. It is an entirely burned offering, a food gift of soothing smell to the Lord.

The grain offering

When anyone presents a grain offering to the Lord, the offering must be of choice flour. They must pour oil on it and put frankincense on it, then bring it to Aaron’s sons, the priests. A priest will take a handful of its choice flour and oil, along with all of its frankincense, and will completely burn this token portion on the altar as a food gift of soothing smell to the Lord. The rest of the grain offering belongs to Aaron and his sons as a most holy portion from the Lord’s food gifts.

When you present a grain offering baked in an oven, it must be of choice flour: unleavened flatbread mixed with oil or unleavened wafers spread with oil. If your offering is grain prepared on a griddle, it must be of choice flour mixed with oil and it must be unleavened. Crumble it into pieces and pour oil on it; it is a grain offering. If your offering is grain prepared in a pan, it must be made of choice flour with oil. You will bring the grain offering made in one of these ways to the Lord, presenting it to the priest, who will then bring it to the altar. The priest will remove from the grain offering the token portion and completely burn it on the altar as a food gift of soothing smell to the Lord. 10 The rest of the grain offering belongs to Aaron and his sons as a most holy portion from the Lord’s food gifts.

11 No grain offering that you give to the Lord can be made with yeast. You must not completely burn any yeast or honey as a food gift for the Lord. 12 You can present those as first-choice offerings to the Lord, but they must not be entirely burned up on the altar as a soothing smell.

13 You must season all your grain offerings with salt. Do not omit the salt of your God’s covenant from your grain offering. You must offer salt with all your offerings.

14 If you present a grain offering to the Lord from the first produce, you must make such an offering from the crushed heads of newly ripe grain, roasted with fire. 15 You must put oil and frankincense on it; it is a grain offering. 16 The priest will completely burn the token portion—some of the crushed new grain and oil along with all of the frankincense—as a food gift for the Lord.

The well-being sacrifice

If the offering is a communal sacrifice of well-being,[d] the one who offers the herd animal—whether it is male or female—must present a flawless specimen before the Lord. You must press your hand on the head of the offering and slaughter it at the meeting tent’s entrance. Aaron’s sons the priests will toss the blood against every side of the altar. Then you can offer a food gift to the Lord from the communal sacrifice of well-being: the fat that covers and surrounds the insides; the two kidneys and the fat around them at the loins; and the lobe on the liver, which should be removed with the kidneys. Aaron’s sons will completely burn all of this on the altar—along with the entirely burned offering on the wood that is on the altar fire—as a food gift of soothing smell to the Lord.

If the offering for a communal sacrifice of well-being for the Lord is from the flock—whether it is male or female—you must present a flawless specimen. If you present a sheep as the offering, you must present it before the Lord. You must press your hand on the head of the offering and slaughter it before the meeting tent. Aaron’s sons will toss the blood against every side of the altar. Then you may offer the fat from the communal sacrifice of well-being as a food gift for the Lord: the whole fat tail, which should be removed close to the tailbone; the fat that covers and surrounds the insides; 10 the two kidneys and the fat around them at the loins; and the lobe on the liver, which should be removed with the kidneys. 11 The priest will then completely burn all of this on the altar as food—as a food gift for the Lord.

12 If the offering is a goat, you must present it before the Lord. 13 You must press your hand on its head and slaughter it before the meeting tent. Aaron’s sons will toss its blood against every side of the altar. 14 Then you may present as your offering—a food gift for the Lord—the fat that covers and surrounds the insides; 15 the two kidneys and the fat around them at the loins; and the lobe on the liver, which should be removed with the kidneys. 16 The priest will then completely burn all of this on the altar as food—as a food gift for a soothing smell.

All fat belongs to the Lord. 17 This is a permanent rule for your future generations, wherever you live: you must not eat any fat or blood.

Mark 1:29-2:12

Jesus heals Simon’s mother-in-law

29 After leaving the synagogue, Jesus, James, and John went home with Simon and Andrew. 30 Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed, sick with a fever, and they told Jesus about her at once. 31 He went to her, took her by the hand, and raised her up. The fever left her, and she served them.

Jesus’ ministry spreads

32 That evening, at sunset, people brought to Jesus those who were sick or demon-possessed. 33 The whole town gathered near the door. 34 He healed many who were sick with all kinds of diseases, and he threw out many demons. But he didn’t let the demons speak, because they recognized him.

35 Early in the morning, well before sunrise, Jesus rose and went to a deserted place where he could be alone in prayer. 36 Simon and those with him tracked him down. 37 When they found him, they told him, “Everyone’s looking for you!”

38 He replied, “Let’s head in the other direction, to the nearby villages, so that I can preach there too. That’s why I’ve come.” 39 He traveled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and throwing out demons.

A man with a skin disease

40 A man with a skin disease approached Jesus, fell to his knees, and begged, “If you want, you can make me clean.”

41 Incensed,[a] Jesus reached out his hand, touched him, and said, “I do want to. Be clean.” 42 Instantly, the skin disease left him, and he was clean. 43 Sternly, Jesus sent him away, 44 saying, “Don’t say anything to anyone. Instead, go and show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifice for your cleansing that Moses commanded. This will be a testimony to them.” 45 Instead, he went out and started talking freely and spreading the news so that Jesus wasn’t able to enter a town openly. He remained outside in deserted places, but people came to him from everywhere.

Healing and forgiveness

After a few days, Jesus went back to Capernaum, and people heard that he was at home. So many gathered that there was no longer space, not even near the door. Jesus was speaking the word to them. Some people arrived, and four of them were bringing to him a man who was paralyzed. They couldn’t carry him through the crowd, so they tore off part of the roof above where Jesus was. When they had made an opening, they lowered the mat on which the paralyzed man was lying. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Child, your sins are forgiven!”

Some legal experts were sitting there, muttering among themselves, “Why does he speak this way? He’s insulting God. Only the one God can forgive sins.”

Jesus immediately recognized what they were discussing, and he said to them, “Why do you fill your minds with these questions? Which is easier—to say to a paralyzed person, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, take up your bed, and walk’? 10 But so you will know that the Human One[b] has authority on the earth to forgive sins”—he said to the man who was paralyzed, 11 “Get up, take your mat, and go home.”

12 Jesus raised him up, and right away he picked up his mat and walked out in front of everybody. They were all amazed and praised God, saying, “We’ve never seen anything like this!”

Psalm 35:17-28

17 How long, my Lord, will you watch this happen?
Rescue me from their attacks;
rescue my precious life from these predatory lions!
18 Then I will thank you in the great assembly;
I will praise you in a huge crowd of people.
19 Don’t let those who are my enemies
without cause celebrate over me;
don’t let those who hate me for no reason
wink at my demise.
20 They don’t speak the truth;
instead, they plot false accusations
against innocent people in the land.
21 They speak out against me,
saying, “Yes! Oh, yes! We’ve seen it with our own eyes!”

22 But you’ve seen it too, Lord.
Don’t keep quiet about it.
Please don’t be far from me, my Lord.
23 Wake up! Get up and do justice for me;
argue my case, my Lord and my God!
24 Establish justice for me
according to your righteousness, Lord, my God.
Don’t let them celebrate over me.
25 Don’t let them say to themselves,
Yes! Exactly what we wanted!
Don’t let them say, “We ate him up!”
26 Let all those who celebrate my misfortune be disgraced and put to shame!
Let those who exalt themselves over me
be dressed up in shame and dishonor!
27 But let those who want things to be set right for me
shout for joy and celebrate!
Let them constantly say, “The Lord is great—
God wants his servant to be at peace.”
28 Then my tongue will talk
all about your righteousness;
it will talk
about your praise all day long.

Proverbs 9:13-18

“Woman Folly’s” invitation

13 Woman Folly is noisy;
she’s stupid and doesn’t even know it.
14 She sits at the doorway of her house,
on a seat at the city heights.
15 She invites those who pass by on the path,
those going straight on their way.
16 “Whoever is naive, come in here,”
she says to those who lack sense.
17 “Stolen water is sweet;
food eaten in secret is pleasant.”
18 But they don’t know that the dead are there;
her guests are in the depths of the grave.[a]

Exodus 39:1-40:38, Mark 1:1-28, Psalms 35:1-16, Proverbs 9:11-12

Today is the 15th day of February welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian it is a joy and privilege to be here with you today as we put…put our foot out and take the next step forward into the week, into the month, into the year, and into the Bible. So, we will be concluding the book of Exodus today so this will be our final reading in the book of Exodus for this year. We concluded the first of the Gospels, which was the gospel of Matthew yesterday. So, when we get to the New Testament today, we will be encountering our…well…our first change of pace in the New Testament, but we are still in the section of the New Testament known as the Gospels. And we will be beginning the gospel of Mark in a little bit. But we’ll talk about that when we get there. First, Exodus chapters 39 and 40 and we’re reading from the Common English Bible this week.

Introduction to the gospel of Mark:

Okay. This brings us to the second gospel in the Bible, although it is probably the first gospel written in time. This is the gospel of Mark. And the Mark that we believe wrote the gospel of Mark was not a disciple of Jesus. He wasn’t one of the 12. He wasn’t an apostle, like the apostle Paul either. Really, he would been more a disciple of the apostle Peter. So, we seem to see Mark show up in the book of Acts which obviously we haven’t gotten to yet. But there he’s known as John Mark. And he lived in Jerusalem. He came from a seemingly wealthy family. They owned a home in Jerusalem. His mom’s name was Mary, and…and she had a servant named Rhoda. Mary was one of the early believers and she opened her home to other early believers. And some of our church traditions…there are…there’s thinking that her home may have been the place that contained the upper room. Like, she had an upstairs to her home where there wasn’t upper room where the Holy Spirit was poured out on the early believers after the ascension of Jesus, but also where Jesus had his last supper. So, Mark was around all this pretty much his whole life, even as a boy. So, as the story goes, Peter was captured by Herod and we’ll resist the story when we get a little bit deeper into the New Testament. And Herod planned to execute Peter because he had put other Christians to death and had seemed to please the people. And, so, he was, you know Peter was a ringleader. And, so, he’s planning to put Peter to death. So, he’s in prison. But an angel comes and frees Peter from jail and it’s to John Mark’s house, right, to Mary’s large home that Peter first came. And all the believers were there at that house praying for Peter’s freedom for his life, pleading to God for his life. And that prayer was answered. And, so, Peter’s sprung from jail and he comes to the house, he knocks on the door, the servant girl Rhoda comes to the door and she sees him and it’s like she can’t believe it’s him. So, she slams the door in his face, and then she goes in and let’s all the other believers know, “like, apparently Peter’s outside.” And we’ll get to that story, we’ll like…we’ll give it its due when we actually come to it, but this gives us a little bit of a background just a little essence of who Mark is. And, so, Mark’s been around the gospel of Jesus Christ his whole life. His cousins name is Barnabas, who is a dear friend of the apostle Paul. It’s Mark the goes with Barnabas and Paul on Paul’s first missionary journey. So, this isn’t like somebody who doesn’t know what’s going on. This is somebody with a bit of a pedigree, and it’s believed through the traditions of the church that…that…that John Mark became a disciple of the apostle Peter, travelled all over with him, and even serves as an interpreter for him in Italy, especially in Rome. And everywhere that Peter goes, and we’ll see this after the Holy Spirit’s coming, this transforms Peter so radically that he becomes a very powerful teacher of the gospel and he teaches the gospel of Jesus everywhere he goes. And, so, John Mark’s heard Peter’s testimony over and over everywhere they go. And, so, it’s basically thought that what Mark writes down in the gospel of Mark is largely the testimony of the apostle Peter, the things that the apostle Peter was teaching about Jesus while he traveled around. It’s also believed and there’s a like pretty strong consensus that…that Mark is indeed the first of the Gospels written that we have in the New Testament and that Mark and Matthew, the gospel that we just read, and then Luke, the one that we will read next after Mark, like that’s not confusing enough, that these three really share a lot of commonality. In fact, they’re known as the synoptic Gospels because they share so much of the same material. And it’s believed that Mark is the original, the very first written testimony of the life of Jesus Christ. And, you know, language scholars will look at the Greek in the book of Mark and, you know, consider it pretty primitive, not…it’s not particularly grammatically correct it…it…it…seems as if maybe more written by like somebody whose mother tongue isn’t Greek or that it is poorly educated, can barely write. It’s more like, you know, like a school kid’s grammar. But there’s a charm in the simplicity. And, so, let’s dive in to the second of the four Gospels that we will encounter in the New Testament, the gospel of Mark chapter 1 verse 1 through verse 28.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word. We thank You for these days that we’re in right now, that we’re transitioning into new territory in both Old and new Testaments. We began the gospel of Mark today and Holy Spirit come. We feel like we’ve heard these stories maybe our whole lives. Let us hear them as if we’ve never heard them before, let us hear them fresh, let us understand like we’re gonna move through the four Gospels and this is our time to walk alongside Jesus to learn. And, so, Holy Spirit, quicken us. Make us awake and aware of what You are leading us to understand as we continue forward in the gospel of Mark. And we concluded the…the book of Exodus today, a very dramatic story of the end of slavery and the story beginning in the wilderness where identities are being shifted and complete new culture is being created there in the wilderness. And, so, as we prepare to move forward into the book of Leviticus tomorrow, we invite Your Holy Spirit. Again, draw us to what we need to know. Draw us to what we need to see and understand. Give us eyes to see and ears to hear, that we…that we may become fully awake and fully aware in this year of going through the Bible, so that we end this year and can never look at anything the same again because we’ve been transformed. Come Holy Spirit we pray. In the name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Good morning Daily Audio Bible this is Sharon in Southern California I just heard the prayer request from I think she said her name was Latasha, she’s a young mom with children and she’s having housing issues. I just wanted to say Psalms 27:14 says wait on the Lord, be of good courage and he shall strengthen thine heart. Wait I say on the Lord. The Lord is with you always and He will grant you the answer to your prayers. Stay steadfast and wait for him to answer. I know I’ve been through the same situation, not knowing which way to turn. Don’t let anyone force you or manipulate you into a decision you don’t want to make. I know it’s not easy and it's…it’s difficult to wait because you see pressure on every side, but I promise you the Lord will answer, and He will guide you. I’m praying for you in your situation and I’m sure a lot of us here on the DAB are also praying for you knowing that the Lord will answer your prayer. Lord, in the name of Jesus I pray that her situation is fixed and done just as You want it to be and let Your will be done in her life and in her situation. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Hello family this is your brother Chad from Jomo and I was calling today February 11th is the Bible reading and brother Brian was just…said something pretty profound and yet oddly so simple. That’s his normal way. I love it. But he was saying we can take what we’re reading today, let it go in one ear out the other and then go back into the chaos of the day or and / or…or we can take what we read today and…and let it bring us peace, let it bring…bring us answers, let it bring us another way to deal with this crazy life that’s going on around us right now. Just…just it’s all about growing. I’ll take the “or” Brian. I’m so sick and tired of taking the “and” man. I’m doing __ . I'm…I'm…not one that lets the word go in one ear out the other, but I do have a tendency of letting the world wash over me and silence the wonderful word I’ve taken in for the day. It’s like by the end of the day it’s like I forgot what I’ve learned at the beginning of the day in God’s word. And I find that to be a great shame, that there’s just so much going on that…that’s taking our attention away, that’s sidetracking us. or just beating us down. And we need to stay focused on the Lord family. He is our guide. He can handle it man. He’s got the broad shoulders man. We, I need to learn to stop trying to take it on myself. I…I never mean too. I always mean to leave it in God’s hands and yet I found myself carrying this stuff around that I don’t need to be carrying this extra luggage. So, family give it to the Lord today. He can do all things in Jesus’ name. I love you family. My time is up. Have a blessed week. Brother Chad from Jomo.

Hi guys it’s Luke from Australia, first-time caller. I’ve only been listening to DAB four since the beginning of the year listening to the daily devotional and I can say I am loving it, OK. It is awesome to just be able to listen to the Bible and…and how Brian reads it, explains it, prays. It’s just awesome and I’m sure we all notice that. I just felt honored to touched to call in and let you guys know that it is an honor to be part of a family such as DAB family, the community and…and the love and support that is on here is just awesome. My mom introduced me to DAB beginning of this year, end of last year. And I can’t get enough of it. So, thank you mum. And yeah, keeping all of you in my prayers. And let’s have a good year this year. Alright. Love you all. Bye.

Hey family, Darrell calling from Atlanta and I do not use word family lightly at all. I absolutely celebrate the fact that we’re all brothers and sisters, we’re God’s family. and I know that sometimes that can be cliché-ish if that’s a word, but it’s not. It’s the truth. We read God’s word, Brian reads it to us every day, which Brian I love you man. I’m going on my third year and I can’t possibly thank you enough, this is a phenomenal thing you’re doing here. But God’s word tells us all over the place that we’re family, we’re His kids and you are my brothers and you’re my sisters and I greatly appreciate you coming on here every day. And I I’ve called in I think one time before for prayer. I’ve called in several times just to encourage but today I’m absolutely asking for prayer. There is a cousin’s fiancé who very recently was battling what they thought was Covid. He is a young healthy man of 25. Again, he’s a cousin’s…cousin of mine, his…her fiancé. His name is Davy. I am asking you today is a critical day. This is a critical time for him. Please pray. They’ve ruled out Covid. They’ve tested him three times and yet his lungs are filling up with fluid. He has double pneumonia in they don’t know what’s going on. Critical prayers today. It’s getting very serious. Again 25 years old, healthy otherwise Davvy. Please pray that God would remove the fluid in his lungs, replace it with the air, and restore him to the way God created his body to be and to function and that God would direct the doctors and open their eyes. Thank you so much, guys.

Hi, I’m just…my name is Rebecca from Canada I’m just sending in a prayer for Latasha from California. I just felt like the Lord wanted me to…to pray for community over you. So, yeah Lord we just thank you so much that that she called in and gave her situation about the housing and the frustration that that’s been. So, Lord we just pray for wisdom Lord, that You would just direct her in the right path, that she would know what she needs to do and yeah Lord that You would have favor with the management, that there would just be breakthrough in this area. And Lord we also just pray that You would just surround her with good community so that she would know that she’s not alone, Father that she would have just new friends, Father that would just come around her and encourage her and support her and her family. And we thank You Lord that You see herm and You see what’s going on and Lord that You’re a God of provision. So, we just ask for provision in this area Lord, that she would know that her and her family are taking care of and cared for by You Lord and that she knows she’s not alone and that we care for her here at the Daily Audio Bible and all across the world we’re praying for her. Thanks.

Good afternoon Daily Audio Bible this is Tracy Baker calling auto Fort Worth TX calling to applaud Janelle in China. I heard your…your call in this morning and it really touched me because we take for granted when we don’t have and aren’t truly thankful for what we do have. Me for one, my job is very stressful. I’m expected to do a whole lot that is not actually in my field and its stuff that I really don’t care to do and with no formal training as well. So, I’m muddling through it as best as I can, but it is so so stressful to be doing something that I’m not really wanting to do though and paid very well for it. But, you know, money isn’t everything. So, again you know, and like Janelle says I’m very thankful that I do have a job as…as…as it were. So, thank you very much Janelle for giving me that reminder to be thankful for what we do have. Have a great day.

Exodus 39-40

Making the priests’ clothing

39 They used the blue, purple, and deep red yarns to make the woven clothing for those ministering as priests in the sanctuary. They made the holy clothes for Aaron as the Lord had commanded Moses.

They made the vest[a] of gold, of blue, purple, and deep red yarns, and of fine twisted linen. They beat out thin sheets of gold and cut them into threads to work into designs among the blue, purple, and deep red yarns and the fine linen. They made shoulder pieces for it attached to its two edges so that they could be joined together. The vest’s belt was attached to it and made in the same way of gold, of blue, purple, and deep red yarns, and of fine twisted linen, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.

They prepared the gemstones by mounting them in gold settings and engraving on them the names of Israel’s sons, like an official seal is engraved. The stones were attached to the vest’s shoulder pieces as reminder stones for the Israelites, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.

They made the embroidered chest pendant in the style of the vest, using gold, blue, purple, and deep red yarns, and fine twisted linen. They made the chest pendant square and doubled, nine inches long and nine inches wide when doubled. 10 They set in it four rows of gemstones. The first row was a row of carnelian, topaz, and emerald stones. 11 The second row was a turquoise, a sapphire, and a moonstone. 12 The third row was a jacinth, an agate, and an amethyst. 13 The fourth row was a beryl, an onyx, and a jasper. The settings around them were decorative gold. 14 There were twelve stones with names corresponding to the names of Israel’s sons. They were engraved like official seals, each with its name for the twelve tribes. 15 They made chains of pure gold, twisted like cords, for the chest pendant. 16 They made two gold settings and two gold rings. They attached the two rings to the two edges of the chest pendant. 17 They attached the two gold cords to the two rings at the edges of the chest pendant. 18 Then they fastened the two ends of the two cords to the two gold settings and attached them to the front of the vest’s shoulder pieces. 19 They made two gold rings, and they attached them to the two edges of the chest pendant, on its inside edge facing the vest. 20 They made two gold rings and fastened them on the front of the lower part of the two shoulder pieces of the vest, at its seam just above the vest’s belt. 21 The chest pendant was held in place by a blue cord binding its rings to the vest’s rings so that the chest pendant rested on the vest’s belt and didn’t come loose from the vest, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.

22 They also made the vest’s robe, woven completely in blue. 23 The opening of the robe in the middle of it was reinforced with a strong border so that it didn’t tear. 24 On the robe’s lower hem, they added pomegranates made of blue, purple, and deep red yarns and of fine twisted linen. 25 They also made pure gold bells and sewed the bells between the pomegranates, all around the robe’s lower hem, 26 with a bell and a pomegranate alternating all around the lower hem of the robe that is used for ministering as a priest, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.

27 They also made the tunics woven out of fine linen for Aaron and his sons, 28 the turban of fine linen, the decorated turbans of fine linen, the linen undergarments of fine twisted linen, 29 the sashes of fine twisted linen, and of blue, purple, and crimson yarns, decorated with needlework, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.

30 They made the flower ornament for the holy crown out of pure gold. Like the engraving on an official seal, they engraved on it the saying “Holy to the Lord.” 31 They fastened to it a blue cord to tie it to the top of the turban, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.

Completion of dwelling construction

32 In this way all the work of the meeting tent dwelling was finished. The Israelites did everything just exactly as the Lord had commanded Moses. 33 Then they brought to Moses the dwelling, the tent, and all its equipment:

its clasps, its boards, its bars, its posts, and its bases,

34 the covering of rams’ skins dyed red, the covering of beaded leather, and the veil for a screen,

35 the chest containing the covenant with its poles and the cover,

36 the table with all its equipment and the bread of the presence,

37 the pure lampstand with its lamps set on it and all its equipment, and the oil for the light,

38 the gold altar, the anointing oil, and the sweet-smelling incense,

the screen for the tent’s entrance,

39 the copper altar and its copper grate, its poles, and all its equipment,

the washbasin with its stand,

40 the courtyard’s drapes, its posts, and its bases,

the screen for the plaza’s gate, its cords, and its tent pegs,

and all the other equipment for the service of the dwelling, for the meeting tent,

41 the woven clothes for ministering as priests in the sanctuary, the holy clothes for the priest Aaron and the clothes for his sons to serve as priests.

42 The Israelites did all of the work just as the Lord had commanded Moses. 43 When Moses saw that they in fact had done all the work exactly as the Lord had commanded, Moses blessed them.

Moses sets up the dwelling

40 The Lord spoke to Moses: Set up the meeting tent dwelling on the first day of the first month.[b] Place the chest containing the covenant inside the dwelling. Hide the chest from view with the veil. Bring in the table and arrange its items. Bring in the lampstand and set up its lamps. Place the gold altar for burning incense in front of the chest containing the covenant. Set up the screen at the dwelling’s entrance. Put the altar for entirely burned offerings in front of the entrance to the meeting tent dwelling. Put the washbasin between the meeting tent and the altar and put water in it. Set up the courtyard all around. Hang up the screen at the courtyard gate. Then take the anointing oil and anoint the dwelling and everything in it. Make holy the dwelling and all its equipment, and it will be holy. 10 Anoint the altar for entirely burned offerings and all its equipment. Make the altar holy, and the altar will be most holy. 11 Anoint the washbasin with its stand and make it holy.

12 Then bring Aaron and his sons to the meeting tent’s entrance and wash them with water. 13 Dress Aaron in the holy clothes. Anoint him and make him holy so that he may serve me as priest. 14 Then bring his sons and dress them in tunics. 15 Anoint them like you anointed their father so that they may serve me as priests. Their anointing is to the priesthood for all time in every generation.

16 Moses did everything exactly as the Lord had commanded him. 17 In the first month in the second year, on the first day of the month, the dwelling was set up. 18 Moses set up the dwelling. He laid out its bases. He set up its boards, inserted its bars, and raised up its posts. 19 He spread the tent out over the dwelling, and he put the covering of the tent over it, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. 20 He took the covenant document and placed it inside the chest. He put the poles on the chest, and he set the cover on top of the chest. 21 He brought the chest into the dwelling. He set up the veil as a screen to hide from view the chest containing the covenant, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. 22 He placed the table in the meeting tent, on the north side of the dwelling, outside the veil. 23 He set the bread in its proper place on the table in the Lord’s presence, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. 24 He put the lampstand in the meeting tent, opposite the table on the south side of the dwelling. 25 He set up the lamps in the Lord’s presence, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. 26 He put the gold altar in the meeting tent in front of the veil. 27 He burned sweet-smelling incense on it, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. 28 He also set up the screen at the entrance to the dwelling. 29 He placed the altar for entirely burned offerings at the entrance to the meeting tent dwelling. He offered the entirely burned offering and the grain offering on it, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. 30 He put the washbasin between the meeting tent and the altar, and put water in it for washing. 31 Moses, Aaron, and his sons used it to wash their hands and their feet. 32 Whenever they went into the meeting tent and whenever they approached the altar, they washed themselves, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. 33 He set up the courtyard around the dwelling and the altar, and he hung up the screen at the courtyard’s gate.

God’s presence fills the dwelling!

When Moses had finished all the work, 34 the cloud covered the meeting tent and the Lord’s glorious presence filled the dwelling. 35 Moses couldn’t enter the meeting tent because the cloud had settled on it, and the Lord’s glorious presence filled the dwelling. 36 Whenever the cloud rose from the dwelling, the Israelites would set out on their journeys. 37 But if the cloud didn’t rise, then they didn’t set out until the day it rose. 38 The Lord’s cloud stayed over the dwelling during the day, with lightning in it at night, clearly visible to the whole household of Israel at every stage of their journey.

Mark 1:1-28

Beginning of good news

The beginning of the good news about Jesus Christ, God’s Son, happened just as it was written about in the prophecy of Isaiah:

Look, I am sending my messenger before you.
He will prepare your way,
a voice shouting in the wilderness:
Prepare the way for the Lord;
make his paths straight.”[a]

John’s preaching

John the Baptist was in the wilderness calling for people to be baptized to show that they were changing their hearts and lives and wanted God to forgive their sins. Everyone in Judea and all the people of Jerusalem went out to the Jordan River and were being baptized by John as they confessed their sins. John wore clothes made of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist. He ate locusts and wild honey. He announced, “One stronger than I am is coming after me. I’m not even worthy to bend over and loosen the strap of his sandals. I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”

Jesus is baptized and tempted

About that time, Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and John baptized him in the Jordan River. 10 While he was coming up out of the water, Jesus saw heaven splitting open and the Spirit, like a dove, coming down on him. 11 And there was a voice from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I dearly love; in you I find happiness.”

12 At once the Spirit forced Jesus out into the wilderness. 13 He was in the wilderness for forty days, tempted by Satan. He was among the wild animals, and the angels took care of him.

Jesus’ message

14 After John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee announcing God’s good news, 15 saying, “Now is the time! Here comes God’s kingdom! Change your hearts and lives, and trust this good news!”

Jesus calls disciples

16 As Jesus passed alongside the Galilee Sea, he saw two brothers, Simon and Andrew, throwing fishing nets into the sea, for they were fishermen. 17 “Come, follow me,” he said, “and I’ll show you how to fish for people.” 18 Right away, they left their nets and followed him. 19 After going a little farther, he saw James and John, Zebedee’s sons, in their boat repairing the fishing nets. 20 At that very moment he called them. They followed him, leaving their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired workers.

Jesus throws a demon out

21 Jesus and his followers went into Capernaum. Immediately on the Sabbath Jesus entered the synagogue and started teaching. 22 The people were amazed by his teaching, for he was teaching them with authority, not like the legal experts. 23 Suddenly, there in the synagogue, a person with an evil spirit screamed, 24 “What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are. You are the holy one from God.”

25 “Silence!” Jesus said, speaking harshly to the demon. “Come out of him!” 26 The unclean spirit shook him and screamed, then it came out.

27 Everyone was shaken and questioned among themselves, “What’s this? A new teaching with authority! He even commands unclean spirits and they obey him!” 28 Right away the news about him spread throughout the entire region of Galilee.

Psalm 35:1-16

Psalm 35

Of David.

35 Lord, argue with those who argue with me;
fight with those who fight against me!
Grab a shield and armor;
stand up and help me!
Use your spear and ax[a]
against those who are out to get me!
Say to me:[b] “I’m your salvation!”
Let those who want me dead
be humiliated and put to shame.
Let those who intend to hurt me
be thoroughly frustrated and disgraced.
Let them be like dust on the wind—
and let the Lord’s messenger be the one who does the blowing!
Let their path be dark and slippery—
and let the Lord’s messenger be the one who does the chasing!
Because they hid their net for me for no reason,
they dug a pit for me for no reason.
Let disaster come to them when they don’t suspect it.
Let the net they hid catch them instead!
Let them fall into it—to their disaster!

But I will rejoice in the Lord;
I will celebrate his salvation.
10 All my bones will say, “Lord, who could compare to you?
You rescue the weak from those who overpower them;
you rescue the weak and the needy from those who plunder them.”

11 Violent witnesses stand up.
They question me about things I know nothing about.
12 They pay me back evil for good,
leaving me stricken with grief.
13 But when they were sick, I wore clothes for grieving,
and I kept a strict fast.
When my prayer came back unanswered,[c]
14 I would wander around like I was grieving a friend or a brother.
I was weighed down, sad, like I was a mother in mourning.
15 But when I stumbled, they celebrated and gathered together—
they gathered together against me!
Strangers[d] I didn’t know tore me to pieces and wouldn’t quit.
16 They ridiculed me over and over again,
like godless people would do,
grinding their teeth at me.

if you are cynical, you will bear it all alone.

Exodus 37:1-38:31, Matthew 28:1-20, Psalms 34:11-22, Proverbs 9:9-10

Today is the 14th day of February welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian welcome to a brand-new shiny sparkly week out in front of us. And happy St. Valentine’s Day. One year ago, one year ago today we were on our way to Israel for our Israel annual pilgrimage and we were passing through Italy, I remember this, just before like these rumors of like this bad virus, they had been kind of swirling around, but they were not starting… starting to actually take hold in earnest, especially in Italy, and then like right after we got out of there to Israel it wasn’t just a few days before Italy shut down. And that began because I think…I believe they were the first country, like officially closed down and trying to isolate from the virus. And, so, wow, what…what can happen in a year. Look at what can transpire in a year of time and look what can change in our lives over the course of a year. And, so, let’s just remember that these changes are happening day by day step by step, including today. So, happy St. Valentine’s Day. We got a brand-new week. We will read from the Common English Bible this week and we will be picking up the story in the book of Exodus. And it feels like we’ve been camping out in Exodus for a while now because we have but we’ll conclude the book of Exodus tomorrow. But that’s then and this is now. Today, Exodus chapters 37 and 38.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word and for bringing us this far…this far into the year, this this brand-new week that is opening up to us, this St. Valentine’s Day where we commemorate and observe love, love in the world, especially the romantic kind of love and we’re grateful for that gift. And we are thankful for the story that we read in the book of Matthew today, the story of the resurrection, the story that has set our hearts on fire but has also set everything into motion, everything that comes next into motion because of Your resurrection. And, so, Father we are…we’re here in the…pretty much the dead center of the month, but we are turning pages and getting ready to move into some new territory. We concluded the gospel of Matthew today, the first of the four Gospels. So, we will move forward into another gospel tomorrow. And we will conclude the book of Exodus tomorrow and begin to move forward from there, the day after that. So, the next couple of days are going to be days of transition for us as we continue to move forward, we invite Your Holy Spirit into this…into this week and everything we do, everything that we think, everything that we say, all of the motives of our hearts, may they be surrendered to You we pray. In the name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hi this is Tiffany from Cleveland and I just want to thank everyone that has prayed for me and my husband Tony for the death of our daughter Jeanna. And I also want to ask that you pray…that I could receive joy again. My joy was lost when my daughter died, and I believe in the Lord and I believe in His peace and I believe that He can give me joy but it’s gone, and I desire it. I also want to pray for all those that have lost their children, that their children have died through miscarriage, infant loss, disease, sickness, cancer. It’s so hard on us. Our lives are never the same after our children die. I just pray that we could receive peace and joy again in our lives and as we live and learn to live without them. In Jesus’ name.

Hello this is Susan and I’m calling on February the 11th. I just wanted to reply to Jessica from California who spoke today on the…as I was listening to Daily Audio Bible and just to say how much she encouraged me. My father…it was always difficult to communicate with my father. For many years I was not sure why then I found out recently he’s probably on the autistic spectrum. I’ve also been separated from my husband going on eight years. And, so, a relationship with men is sometimes difficult. I have more male colleagues now at my work and I was just coming home today feeling rather pitiful, discouraged and not sure if I can communicate or compete in the male workplace where more males around me and then come home and look after my children, be strong for all of them. So, thank you so much for the words of encouragement, the words that you say to yourself, thank you God for just the way I am. Thank you God for just the way I am.” And also, the verse in the Bible, I think it’s Psalm 139 saying, “we are fearfully and wonderfully made.” So, I just wanted to say thank you Jessica from California for the encouragement you gave me today. Thank you.

Hello everybody my name is Doug from Oklahoma I’ve been a long-time listener I’ve just never called in. I have a vaccine schedule tomorrow for Covid and I’m really, really scared. I have bad anxiety and panic attacks and…but I feel like I need to get this vaccine and I would just like your prayers, that nothing goes wrong, I don’t have any bad reactions or anything. And, of course, then I’ll have to get a second one. So, I love you guys. I…I…I pray for you all too. And I just don’t call in very much because I really don't…I’m not a very good talker as you can tell. But anyways your prayers are appreciated for tomorrow. I know the time you hear this the vaccine will be over but, you know, God already knows. So, I thank you all. Doug from Oklahoma. Love you. Bye.

Good evening DABbers my sisters and brothers in Christ this prayer is going to Latasha in California. You spoke of being homeless with your children at one point and just now getting into the housing and afraid that you’re going to lose it and be homeless again. I’ve been homeless before Latasha and I had a young son and I know how scary it is especially when you don’t know where you’re going to live the next day. Besides if things fall apart you have no safety net. So, Father God I come to You as humble as I know how Father. Father we have a mother right now Father that doesn’t know what the situation…how the situation is going to turn out. She’s being torn between one person saying one thing and someone expecting another Father God, but I just ask that You put in her heart Father that to stand and feel Your Salvation. God if she stands, she knows where her help will come from. You didn’t bring her this far Father for her and her children to be back into the homeless situation. Father, so I ask that You give her strength, give her confidence, give her peace Father, that peace that surpasses all understanding Father that things will be OK. And Latasha, you say you’re fearful. God did not give us a spirit of fear but of sound mind. So, just stand and watch his Salvation work this out for you. I look forward to hearing a praise report on how things will work out, not going to, but will. Running Desperately to Jesus. Also known as…

The Daily Audio Bible Reading for Sunday February 14, 2021 (NIV)

Exodus 37-38

Building the chest containing the covenant document

37 Bezalel made the chest of acacia wood. It was forty-five inches long, twenty-seven inches wide, and twenty-seven inches high. He covered the chest with pure gold inside and out, and made a gold molding all around it. He cast four gold rings for it and put them on its four feet, two rings on one side and two rings on the other. He made acacia-wood poles and covered them with gold. He put the poles into the rings on the chest’s sides to use to carry the chest. He made a cover for the chest out of pure gold, forty-five inches long and twenty-seven inches wide. He made two winged heavenly creatures of hammered gold for the two ends of the cover, one winged heavenly creature at one end and one winged heavenly creature at the other. He placed the winged heavenly creatures at the cover’s two ends. The winged heavenly creatures spread out their wings above, shielding the cover with their wings. The winged heavenly creatures faced each other toward the cover’s center.

Constructing the table and lampstand

10 He also made the table of acacia wood, three feet long, eighteen inches wide, and twenty-seven inches high. 11 He covered it with pure gold and made a gold molding all around it. 12 He made a frame around it that was four inches wide and gold molding around the frame. 13 He made four gold rings for the table. He fastened the rings to the four corners at its four legs. 14 The rings that housed the poles used for carrying the table were close to the frame. 15 He made the poles used to carry the table out of acacia wood, and he covered them with gold. 16 He made the containers of pure gold that were to be on the table: its plates, dishes, bowls, and jars for pouring drink offerings.

17 He also made the lampstand of pure, hammered gold. The lampstand’s base, branches, cups, flowers, and petals were all attached to it. 18 It had six branches growing out from its sides, three branches on one side of the lampstand and three branches on the other side of the lampstand. 19 One branch had three cups shaped like almond blossoms, each with a flower and petals, and the next branch also had three cups shaped like almond blossoms, each with a flower and petals. A total of six branches grew out of the lampstand. 20 In addition, on the lampstand itself there were four cups shaped like almond blossoms, each with its flower and petals. 21 There was a flower attached under the first pair of branches, a flower attached under the next pair of branches, and a flower attached under the last pair of branches. 22 Their flowers and their branches were attached to it. The whole lampstand was one piece of pure hammered gold. 23 He made its seven lamps and its tongs and its fire pans out of pure gold. 24 He made the lampstand and all its equipment from pure gold weighing one kikkar.

Making the incense altar, incense, and oil

25 He made the incense altar out of acacia wood. The altar was square, eighteen inches long by eighteen inches wide. It was three feet high, and its horns were permanently attached. 26 He covered it with pure gold, including its top, all its sides, and its horns. He also made a gold molding all around it. 27 He made two gold rings, and he attached them under the molding on two opposite sides of the altar. They housed the poles used to carry it. 28 He made the poles of acacia wood, and he covered them with gold.

29 He also made the holy anointing oil and the pure sweet-smelling incense like a skilled perfume maker.

Making the altar for entirely burned offerings

38 He made the altar for entirely burned offerings out of acacia wood. The altar was square, seven and a half feet long and seven and a half feet wide. It was four and a half feet high. He made horns for it, one horn on each of its four corners. Its horns were attached to the altar, and he covered it with copper. He made all the altar’s equipment: the pails, the shovels, the bowls, the meat forks, and the trays. He made all its equipment out of copper. He made a grate for the altar of copper mesh underneath its bottom edge and extending halfway up to the middle of the altar. He made four rings for each of the four corners of the copper grate to house the poles. He made the poles out of acacia wood, and he covered them with copper. He put the poles through the rings so that the poles were on the two sides of the altar when it was carried. He made the altar with planks but hollow inside.

He made the copper washbasin with its copper stand from the copper mirrors among the ranks of women assigned to the meeting tent’s entrance.

Constructing the dwelling’s plaza

He also set up the courtyard. The courtyard’s south side had drapes of fine twisted linen stretching one hundred fifty feet 10 with twenty posts, twenty copper bases, and silver hooks and bands for the posts. 11 Likewise the north side stretched one hundred fifty feet, with twenty posts, twenty copper bases, and silver hooks and bands for the posts. 12 On the west side the drapes stretched seventy-five feet, with their ten posts, their ten bases, and silver hooks and bands for the posts. 13 The front side facing east was seventy-five feet. 14 There were twenty-two and a half feet of drapes on one side with three posts and three bases for them. 15 Likewise, there were twenty-two and a half feet of drapes on the other side of the plaza’s gate with three posts and three bases for them. 16 All the drapes around the courtyard were made of fine twisted linen. 17 The bases for the posts were made of copper, but the hooks for the posts and their bands were made of silver. The tops of the posts were covered with silver, and all the posts surrounding the courtyard had silver bands. 18 The screen for the gate into the courtyard was made with blue, purple, and deep red yarns and fine twisted linen, decorated with needlework. It was thirty feet long and, along the width of it, seven and a half feet high, corresponding to the courtyard’s drapes. 19 It had four posts, their four copper bases, their silver hooks, and their tops and bands covered with silver. 20 All the tent pegs for the dwelling and for the courtyard all around were made of copper.

A listing of materials used

21 These are the accounts of the dwelling, the covenant dwelling, that were recorded at Moses’ instructions. They are the work of the Levites, under the direction of Ithamar, Aaron the priest’s son. 22 Bezalel, Uri’s son and Hur’s grandson from the tribe of Judah, made everything that the Lord had commanded Moses to make. 23 Working with Bezalel was Oholiab, Ahisamach’s son from the tribe of Dan, who was a gem cutter, a designer, and a needleworker in blue, purple, and deep red yarns and in fine linen.

24 The total amount of the gold that was used for construction of the whole sanctuary, gold from the uplifted offerings, was twenty-nine kikkars and seven hundred thirty shekels in weight, measured by the sanctuary shekel. 25 The silver from the community census totaled one hundred kikkars and one thousand seven hundred seventy-five shekels in weight, measured by the sanctuary shekel. 26 They gave a beqa per person (that is, half a shekel, measured by the sanctuary shekel) for everyone who was counted in the census, 20 years old and above, 603,550 men. 27 One hundred kikkars of silver were used to cast the bases for the sanctuary and the bases for the veil, one hundred bases from one hundred kikkars of silver, one kikkar for every base. 28 He used one thousand seven hundred seventy-five shekels of silver[a] to make the hooks for the posts, cover their tops, and make bands for them. 29 The amount of copper from the uplifted offering was seventy kikkars and two thousand four hundred shekels in weight. 30 He used it to make the bases for the meeting tent’s entrance, the copper altar, its copper grate, and all the altar’s equipment, 31 the bases all around the courtyard, and the bases for the courtyard’s gate, all the dwelling’s tent pegs, and all the tent pegs used around the courtyard.

Matthew 28

Resurrection

28 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to look at the tomb. Look, there was a great earthquake, for an angel from the Lord came down from heaven. Coming to the stone, he rolled it away and sat on it. Now his face was like lightning and his clothes as white as snow. The guards were so terrified of him that they shook with fear and became like dead men. But the angel said to the women, “Don’t be afraid. I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He isn’t here, because he’s been raised from the dead, just as he said. Come, see the place where they laid him. Now hurry, go and tell his disciples, ‘He’s been raised from the dead. He’s going on ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there.’ I’ve given the message to you.”

With great fear and excitement, they hurried away from the tomb and ran to tell his disciples. But Jesus met them and greeted them. They came and grabbed his feet and worshipped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t be afraid. Go and tell my brothers that I am going into Galilee. They will see me there.”

Guards’ report

11 Now as the women were on their way, some of the guards came into the city and told the chief priests everything that had happened. 12 They met with the elders and decided to give a large sum of money to the soldiers. 13 They told them, “Say that Jesus’ disciples came at night and stole his body while you were sleeping. 14 And if the governor hears about this, we will take care of it with him so you will have nothing to worry about.” 15 So the soldiers took the money and did as they were told. And this report has spread throughout all Judea to this very day.

Commissioning of the disciples

16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshipped him, but some doubted. 18 Jesus came near and spoke to them, “I’ve received all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to obey everything that I’ve commanded you. Look, I myself will be with you every day until the end of this present age.”

Psalm 34:11-22

11 Come, children, listen to me.
Let me teach you how to honor the Lord:
12 Do you love life;
do you relish the chance to enjoy good things?
13 Then you must keep your tongue from evil
and keep your lips from speaking lies!
14 Turn away from evil! Do good!
Seek peace and go after it!

15 The Lord’s eyes watch the righteous,
his ears listen to their cries for help.
16 But the Lord’s face is set against those who do evil,
to eliminate even the memory of them from the earth.
17 When the righteous cry out, the Lord listens;
he delivers them from all their troubles.
18 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted;
he saves those whose spirits are crushed.

19 The righteous have many problems,
but the Lord delivers them from every one.
20 He protects all their bones;
not even one will be broken.
21 But just one problem will kill the wicked,
and those who hate the righteous will be held responsible.
22 The Lord saves his servants’ lives;
all those who take refuge in him
won’t be held responsible for anything.

Proverbs 9:9-10

Teach the wise, and they will become wiser;
inform the righteous, and their learning will increase.
10 The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord;
the knowledge of the holy one is understanding.

Ex 35:10-36:38, Matt 27:32-66, Ps 34:1-10, Pr 9:7-8

Today is the 13th day of February welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I’m Brian it’s great to be here with you. It’s a joy as we bring to a close another one of our weeks together. And they…they just kind of go by don’t they. And like hear we are, like middle of the second month of the year already. Here we are. And that’s just it…that’s just it. That’s how life goes, but it becomes really really apparent as we enter into the rhythm of the Scriptures and continue to absorb them day by day just to mark the time. Here we are the middle of February and it won’t be long before we’re saying here we are in the middle of September. So, let’s continue to buckle in. Let’s continue to really invest our hearts into what the Scriptures are telling us because by the time we get to that time we’re…we’re like, “can you believe it is the middle of September?” We can be different people than we are right now. If we follow this path and we keep on this path day by day step-by-step and not just be hearers but be doers, yeah, by the time we’re saying, can you believe it’s the middle of September allot will have shifted in our lives. And, so, let’s dive in and take the next step for this week, which is the final step of this week. We’re reading from the Christian Standard Bible. Exodus chapter 35 verse 10 through 36 verse 38.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word. We thank You for another week to spend together in Your word. And Jesus, we have spent…spent a good portion of this week just…just being in Your last days telling the story of Your last days, Your arrest, the betrayal, the trial and now Your crucifixion, execution unjustly and Your burial. And we can often…we can often zoom to the end of the story. In fact, we do because it’s too painful. It…it’s hard to contemplate what happened to You. It’s hard to contemplate that it happened on our behalf. It humbles us but we want to move past that to the resurrection and it’s important that we that we do but not before we sit with this, that You are our Savior. And we just…we’ve just gone through the whole book of Matthew watching Your ministry unfold, watching the way that You were simply calling the truth out from the shadows and how that riled things up so much, that this…this what we read today, this…this is happening and gives us such a stark glimpse of how dark things can get, of how dark things had gotten, about how dark things have gotten. And, so, we cling to You and we cling with hope. And Yes, we can turn the page, and yes, we can read of the resurrection. But it’s important for us to stay here and wait for that as we sit with what it cost to let us be here, so freely reading Your word, and so freely interacting, so freely up moving around. And You died to make us free. And, so, Holy Spirit come. Show us how to meditate upon that today and sit with that we pray. In the name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

H DAB family this is Sonya in Austin TX and I’m just calling to…it’s February 10th and Brian was talking about wisdom, listening, and taking that heartbeat minute to pause before you speak and my gosh, I wish I would’ve done that last night. My husband was trying to talk to me, and I opened my mouth and it just became ugly and it shouldn’t have been ugly I should have kept my mouth quiet and actually listened. And instead made him feel bad about his job and situation and that of course wasn’t my intent, but I seem to sabotage this when he tries to open up to me and I need to be quiet and I need to let wisdom speak. So, just pray for wisdom to enter into me sooner, to kick me, to…to staple my tongue down, be quiet and to listen to my husband in the future. And I do pray that you lift Michael up and help him to get a job where he’ll be satisfied. He’s working in a school cafeteria and just…he isn’t happy and it’s not where God wants him to be. And the people he works with are just…they are very nice people but they’re not competent. And, so, he’s doing three peoples’ jobs and then if something slips by then he’s the manager so he’s the one who gets in trouble. So, he’s constantly having to go back in to do their jobs, simple things like counting and stuff because they’re off on their numbers by a lot, not just like one or two, but by like 40. Again, nice people, but just…it’s just very hard when you’re basically doing everyone’s job for them and then you take the blame. And I know there’s a job out there that God has for him. So just please…

Hello this is sister Bridget from Northern California and I’m reaching out to my sister Hannah in New Zealand who called in asking for our prayers for her and her family as they grieve the loss of their dad who took his life. And I just want to say I’m so sorry sister Hannah and my heart…I know all our hearts are grieving with you all. And I want you to know that I am praying for you and I want to pray now for you and your family. Heavenly Father I thank You that You know us, You know the depths of our hearts and You…You know the depths of grief. And I want to thank You that You carried them Yourself. So interesting that we heard about You praying in the gardener Gethsemane before Your crucifixion, how You poured out Your heart and the grief and despair You experienced. Lord I thank You that You know that You…You enter in for us and I pray that Hannah and her family can be completely sustained by Your presence. Holy Spirit I ask for Your spirit of comfort and unity to bind them together. I pray that You would illuminate their darkness and help them to see…see Your presence and see You work wonders as You draw their hearts towards…

I am a stay-at-home mum to 3 little babies. The youngest ones nine months old and I’m married to a wonderful man who has who has a serious alcohol problem that’s caused a lot of issues in our life, especially as of recently. And I’m just asking for prayer for how to deal with all of it and how to keep myself and keep my peace and how to help him as much as I can. I just need God to give me some peace about it and maybe start moving in his life because he’s a good man and I’m not gonna leave him. He’s not dangerous, he’s just…he’s got issues and I just need to know how to help him or I need God to help him. So, if you could pray for that it would mean a lot. Thank you.

Hello family this is Biola from Maryland and I hope you’re all doing well. Brian and Jill God bless you. God bless your family and your ministry. Family I’ve been struck with so many prayer requests a lot of you are calling in and the weight of it all, you know. And I recall the scripture where Jesus was saying in this world you will have trouble but be of good cheer I have overcome the world beard. And…and, you know, sometimes it’s it sounds so heavy and it’s so witty and oh Lord Jesus I just bring everyone in the Daily Audio Bible family unto you oh God who is going through troubles and tribulations and trials and heaviness. And I just finished listening to you Greg and…and as you broke down and started, you know, asking for prayer and also crying I just…oh my goodness my heart was just gripped. Father Lord I pray that you would step into my brother’s situation oh God and intervene in the name of Jesus. Oh God I pray oh God Lord that you will show yourself strong on behalf of his family, that they will come to know you God Lord his wife oh God and his…his…his children oh God Lord his grandchildren they will come to know you as their Lord of passed down saviors. Hannah from New Zealand as a heard your prayer request too I was so burdened. Oh, father I pray oh God for my sister that you wrap your arms around her and her family members and that you will just heal them and comfort them oh God over the passing of their dad oh God Lord. And I pray for wisdom for them in this situation, that the fights will stop in the name of Jesus. Kingdom Seeker Daniel, I listened to your prayer request and I was just shaking my head and I’m like Oh my goodness. Oh, father Lord I arrest oh God every plan of the devil oh Lord of that family I cancel in the name of…

Good morning Daily Audio Bible community this is Diane Olive Braun an encourager one of many shalom shalom. I am adding my log to the campfire the Global Campfire and today this morning it is 5 minutes to 1:00 in the morning and I read…I listened and while Ezekiel and Ezekiel’s mama Jill together read the story of the betrayal of Jesus. And I’m still in the forgiveness area and how important it is and how hard it is. It must have been hard for Jesus to forgive all of those people that turned against him but if He’s my example then I can look at how He had his Last Supper with Judas Iscariot and I think of Corrie Tenbaum, a story that helps me think about forgiveness when she met the…the Nazi soldier that was so mean to her and he stuck his hand out to shake her hand and by her own will she shook his hand and a power went through her hand and her arm…

Good morning my dear baby precious family this is Eyes of a Dove in Snoqualmie WA. It’s been a while since I’ve called in, but I’ve been in the background listening and praying along with all of you. My dear little sister…oh…I can’t remember your name but boy every morning I’m just praying for you. You called in about your mom with the drug addiction and she was blaming you out of her own guilt. You know, when we allow drugs into our lives it stops our brain from maturing and reasoning and our flesh, pride makes it very hard as adults and to turn back and say hey we made mistakes and we’re making mistakes. And I want to tell you as a mom of four kids please let me be an example of your mom and tell you sweetie, I’m so sorry. I’m sorry that I’ve done drugs. I’m sorry that I am not loving myself the way God wants to love me and choosing not to do those drugs. I’m so sorry that I’ve hurt you. I’ve made you scared. I made you feel broken and I’m sorry that I haven’t been that example of a mom that you need. And I’m going to get better. And Father we lift up this precious little girl’s mummy. Father I ask that You would just begin to bring new life into her, Father that You would make drugs horrible tasting and feeling in her body, that she would have the desire to remove those from her life and to live a God centered life. And Father I pray You humble her and have her come to her daughter at full repentance. Thank You. Thank You for putting her in a home with her auntie an uncle so she can flourish and grow. And just continue to love and grow her in the name of Jesus. Amen. I’m beside you young lady. Keep calling in…

The Daily Audio Bible Reading for Saturday February 13, 2021 (NIV)

Exodus 35:10-36:38

10 “Let all the skilled artisans[a] among you come and make everything that the Lord has commanded:(A) 11 the tabernacle—its tent and covering, its clasps and supports, its crossbars, its pillars and bases; 12 the ark with its poles, the mercy seat, and the curtain for the screen; 13 the table with its poles, all its utensils, and the Bread of the Presence; 14 the lampstand for light with its utensils and lamps as well as the oil for the light; 15 the altar of incense with its poles; the anointing oil and the fragrant incense; the entryway screen for the entrance to the tabernacle; 16 the altar of burnt offering with its bronze grate, its poles, and all its utensils; the basin with its stand; 17 the hangings of the courtyard, its posts and bases, and the screen for the gate of the courtyard; 18 the tent pegs for the tabernacle and the tent pegs for the courtyard, along with their ropes; 19 and the specially woven[b] garments for ministering in the sanctuary—the holy garments for the priest Aaron and the garments for his sons to serve as priests.”(B)

20 Then the entire Israelite community left Moses’s presence. 21 Everyone whose heart was moved and whose spirit prompted him came and brought an offering to the Lord for the work on the tent of meeting, for all its services, and for the holy garments.(C) 22 Both men and women came; all who had willing hearts brought brooches, earrings, rings, necklaces, and all kinds of gold jewelry—everyone who presented a presentation offering of gold to the Lord. 23 Everyone who possessed blue, purple, or scarlet yarn,(D) fine linen or goat hair, ram skins dyed red or fine leather,[c] brought them. 24 Everyone making an offering of silver or bronze brought it as a contribution to the Lord. Everyone who possessed acacia wood useful for any task in the work brought it. 25 Every skilled[d] woman(E) spun yarn with her hands and brought it: blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and fine linen. 26 And all the women whose hearts were moved spun the goat hair by virtue of their skill. 27 The leaders(F) brought onyx and gemstones to mount on the ephod and breastpiece, 28 as well as the spice(G) and oil for the light, for the anointing oil, and for the fragrant incense. 29 So the Israelites brought a freewill offering to the Lord, all the men and women whose hearts prompted them to bring something for all the work that the Lord, through Moses, had commanded to be done.(H)

Bezalel and Oholiab

30 Moses(I) then said to the Israelites, “Look, the Lord has appointed by name Bezalel son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. 31 He has filled him with God’s Spirit, with wisdom, understanding, and ability in every kind of craft 32 to design artistic works in gold, silver, and bronze, 33 to cut gemstones for mounting, and to carve wood for work in every kind of artistic craft. 34 He has also given[e] both him and Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, the ability to teach others. 35 He has filled them with skill[f] to do all the work(J) of a gem cutter; a designer; an embroiderer[g] in blue, purple, and scarlet yarn and fine linen; and a weaver. They can do every kind of craft and design artistic designs.

36 Bezalel, Oholiab, and all the skilled[h] people are to work based on everything the Lord has commanded. The Lord has given them wisdom and understanding to know how to do all the work of constructing the sanctuary.”(K)

So Moses summoned Bezalel, Oholiab, and every skilled person in whose heart the Lord had placed wisdom, all whose hearts moved them,(L) to come to the work and do it. They took from Moses’s presence all the contributions that the Israelites had brought for the task of making the sanctuary. Meanwhile, the people continued to bring freewill offerings morning after morning.

Then all the artisans who were doing all the work for the sanctuary came one by one from the work they were doing and said to Moses, “The people are bringing more than is needed(M) for the construction of the work the Lord commanded to be done.”

After Moses gave an order, they sent a proclamation throughout the camp: “Let no man or woman make anything else as an offering for the sanctuary.” So the people stopped. The materials were sufficient for them to do all the work. There was more than enough.

Building the Tabernacle

All(N) the skilled artisans[i] among those doing the work made the tabernacle with ten curtains. Bezalel made them of finely spun linen, as well as blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, with a design of cherubim worked into them. Each curtain was forty-two feet[j] long and six feet[k] wide; all the curtains had the same measurements. 10 He joined five of the curtains to each other, and the other five curtains he joined to each other. 11 He made loops of blue yarn on the edge of the last curtain in the first set and did the same on the edge of the outermost curtain in the second set. 12 He made fifty loops on the one curtain and fifty loops on the edge of the curtain in the second set, so that the loops lined up with each other. 13 He also made fifty gold clasps and joined the curtains to each other, so that the tabernacle became a single unit.

14 He made curtains of goat hair for a tent over the tabernacle; he made eleven of them. 15 Each curtain was forty-five feet[l] long and six feet wide. All eleven curtains had the same measurements. 16 He joined five of the curtains together, and the other six together. 17 He made fifty loops on the edge of the outermost curtain in the first set and fifty loops on the edge of the corresponding curtain in the second set. 18 He made fifty bronze clasps to join the tent together as a single unit. 19 He also made a covering for the tent from ram skins dyed red and a covering of fine leather[m] on top of it.

20 He(O) made upright supports[n] of acacia wood for the tabernacle. 21 Each support was fifteen feet[o] long and twenty-seven inches[p] wide. 22 Each support had two tenons for joining one to another. He did the same for all the supports of the tabernacle. 23 He made supports for the tabernacle as follows: He made twenty for the south side, 24 and he made forty silver bases to put under the twenty supports, two bases under the first support for its two tenons, and two bases under each of the following supports for their two tenons. 25 For the second side of the tabernacle, the north side, he made twenty supports, 26 with their forty silver bases, two bases under the first support and two bases under each of the following ones. 27 And for the back of the tabernacle, on the west side, he made six supports. 28 He also made two additional supports for the two back corners of the tabernacle. 29 They were paired at the bottom and joined together[q] at the[r] top in a single ring. This is what he did with both of them for the two corners. 30 So there were eight supports with their sixteen silver bases, two bases under each one.

31 He made five crossbars of acacia wood for the supports on one side of the tabernacle, 32 five crossbars for the supports on the other side of the tabernacle, and five crossbars for those at the back of the tabernacle on the west. 33 He made the central crossbar run through the middle of the supports from one end to the other. 34 He overlaid them with gold and made their rings out of gold as holders for the crossbars. He also overlaid the crossbars with gold.

35 Then(P) he made the curtain with blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and finely spun linen. He made it with a design of cherubim worked into it. 36 He made four pillars of acacia wood for it and overlaid them with gold; their hooks were of gold. And he cast four silver bases for the pillars.

37 He made a screen embroidered[s] with blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and finely spun linen for the entrance to the tent, 38 together with its five pillars and their hooks. He overlaid the tops of the pillars and their bands with gold, but their five bases were bronze.

Matthew 27:32-66

Crucified Between Two Criminals

32 As they were going out, they found a Cyrenian man named Simon. They forced him to carry his cross.(A) 33 When they came to a place called Golgotha(B) (which means Place of the Skull), 34 they gave him wine[a] mixed with gall to drink. But when he tasted it, he refused to drink it. 35 After crucifying him, they divided his clothes by casting lots.[b](C) 36 Then they sat down and were guarding him there. 37 Above his head they put up the charge against him in writing: This Is Jesus, the King of the Jews.

38 Then two criminals[c] were crucified with him, one on the right and one on the left.(D) 39 Those who passed by were yelling insults at[d] him, shaking their heads(E) 40 and saying, “You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross!” (F) 41 In the same way the chief priests, with the scribes and elders,[e] mocked him and said, 42 “He saved others, but he cannot save himself! He is the King of Israel!(G) Let him[f] come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. 43 He trusts in God; let God rescue him now—if he takes pleasure in him![g] For he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” 44 In the same way even the criminals who were crucified with him taunted him.(H)

The Death of Jesus

45 From noon until three in the afternoon,[h] darkness came over the whole land.[i](I) 46 About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “Elí, Elí, lemá[j] sabachtháni?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?”[k](J)

47 When some of those standing there heard this, they said, “He’s calling for Elijah.”

48 Immediately one of them ran and got a sponge, filled it with sour wine, put it on a stick, and offered him a drink.(K) 49 But the rest said, “Let’s see if Elijah comes to save him.”

50 But Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and gave up his spirit.(L) 51 Suddenly, the curtain of the sanctuary(M) was torn in two from top to bottom, the earth quaked, and the rocks were split. 52 The tombs were also opened(N) and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised. 53 And they came out of the tombs after his resurrection, entered the holy city, and appeared to many.

54 When the centurion and those with him, who were keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and the things that had happened, they were terrified and said, “Truly this man was the Son of God!” (O)

55 Many women who had followed Jesus from Galilee and looked after him were there, watching from a distance.(P) 56 Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of Zebedee’s sons.(Q)

The Burial of Jesus

57 When it was evening,(R) a rich man from Arimathea named Joseph came, who himself had also become a disciple(S) of Jesus. 58 He approached Pilate and asked for Jesus’s body. Then Pilate ordered that it[l] be released. 59 So Joseph took the body, wrapped it in clean, fine linen, 60 and placed it in his new tomb, which he had cut into the rock. He left after rolling a great stone against the entrance of the tomb.(T) 61 Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were seated there, facing the tomb.

The Closely Guarded Tomb

62 The next day, which followed the preparation day, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered before Pilate(U) 63 and said, “Sir, we remember that while this deceiver was still alive he said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’(V) 64 So give orders that the tomb be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples(W) may come, steal him, and tell the people, ‘He has been raised from the dead,’ and the last deception will be worse than the first.”

65 “Take[m] guards,” Pilate told them. “Go and make it as secure as you know how.” 66 They went and secured the tomb by setting a seal on the stone and placing the guards.(X)

Exodus 34:1-35:9, Matthew 27:15-31, Psalms 33:12-22, Proverbs 9:1-6

Today is the 12th day of February welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian it is wonderful to be here with you today as we continue the journey…well…we’re…we’re journeying toward the center of the second month of the year. We’ll be there in a few days. And, so, we are moving right along but we have…we have moved through some significant territory in the Bibl. And as we begin our reading today from the book of Exodus, we still find ourselves around the mountain of God, otherwise known as Mount Sinai. Just some really, really important things have happened and transpired. We read of this golden calf that the people decided to worship as their redeemer as their savior as the one who brought them out of Egypt. And we saw Moses come down from the mountain away from God’s presence to discover all this, all that transpired there. Moses is back on top of the mountain again. Now he’s been pleading for the people. God basically told Moses, “yeah, I can’t deal with these people. I’m sending you to the land. You lead them in, but I’m not going.” And Moses is like, “if you don’t go, if you don’t go then I don’t even want to be a part of this story. If you don’t go, we have no hope.” And there’s this moment of real deep realization that there is no hope…hope outside of God, that we whether we acknowledge it or not we are utterly dependent upon Him. And, so, let’s continue the story. Exodus chapter 34 verse 1 through 35 verse 9. And we’re reading from the Christian Standard Bible this week.

Commentary:

Alright. Let’s look at some words from the Psalms that we read today or the Psalm that we read today in light of what we’re seeing kind of both in the Old and the New Testament stories. The story in the Old Testament, of course, is God beginning to give the law, but the people’s rebelliousness their stiff-necked, their neck…necked-ness…their…their stubbornness and their rebellion and their adultery spiritually by worshiping false gods and just all of this stuff that we…we’ve been able to witness.

In the New Testament we just completed the trial of Jesus, like, He’s sentenced to death, which is how…that’s what we’ll experience tomorrow. So, let’s just consider for second in these stories the posture of heart of humanity toward God.

So, in the Old Testament we have God invading Egypt to set His people free and all of the drama about that and they’re in the wilderness seeing and hearing from God and God is laying out a tapestry for a culture and yet they are stubborn, they are rebellious, they grumble, they complain, they are not grateful, and they are easily distracted into putting their hope and their allegiance and their heart into the worship of something false. And God is exasperated about it. Who wouldn’t be? But He is patient, He is continuing forward with the journey despite their rebelliousness.

We go into the book of Matthew and then we look at the posture of humanity toward God and we see that these same people, like the descendants of this stiff-necked people, they want to do away with God while trying to defend God. But now they have this law, they’re trying to obey this, and it’s turned into a power struggle of control over the people. They have to obey the rules. And then God comes in the flesh and they don’t even recognize Him. In fact, they are so put out, they are so put off by Him and His ways that they don't…like it…that’s how backwards it’s gotten. I mean you would…we would say that God would display God’s ways, right? He’s God. So, that’s what we’re seeing in Jesus. If they can’t recognize the ways of God and they call him blasphemous and they call him of the devil, then they have so perverted the actual ways of God that it can’t even be seen anymore. And what do we see? God in the person of Jesus patiently taking out there giving. He is going to allow Himself to be killed by His people. That’s a pretty stark thing to think about. But could we maybe at this point in the year acknowledge what we’re seeing here and stop blaming God for things He doesn’t do us and stop telling Him He doesn’t understand what we’re going through? He does. And He patiently and carefully continues to love humanity until this very day, including us and our complaining and our lack of gratitude and our grumbling and our turning to something else for hope and our giving our allegiance and fealty to something that is false and our acting like a two-year-old and throwing ourselves on the ground and kicking and screaming when we don’t get our way. God is patient and kind because He loves us. If we would ever actually get that through our heads it would change our very lives, it would change the way we behave toward everybody.

Prayer:

Holy Spirit come. Let us see this. Let us see Your kindness, let us see Your patience, Your compassion as we continue to navigate all of the different times and stories and people’s lives that we find in the Scriptures because we find ourselves in…in…in these stories. We find ourselves in the lives of these people. And, so, open our hearts. Give us eyes to see and ears to hear what You are speaking to us and where You are leading. We acknowledge that You have been patient, beyond what we could ever deserve. You have been kind in the face of our unkindness. You have loved us even while we were Your enemies. Help that to sink in we ask in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hello DAB family this is your friend your brother in Christ in Michigan. I want to say thank you to, so many. Your prayers have touched myself and my family in ways you can ever imagine, and we are praying for you all. I’d also like a prayer over my wife. She struggled with many many ailments now but fibromyalgia now followed by lupus and she has some problems with her liver. Through it all she’s been upbeat and God fearing and showing me what it is to be a true believer. So, I ask that you raise her in your prayers as I raise all of you all in my prayers. I want to thank the DAB family. What a blessing to hear this every day. I am new. I’ve only been here since December 21st of last year but to say…I can’t even describe the impact on my life, and I want to thank you. With love from Michigan. Bye now.

My name is Latasha and I’m calling from California. I need prayer in the way of my housing situation. I was placed on a housing program for homeless and disheveled men and children. It could be for anybody for that matter, but it’s been going up and down. Sometimes I feel like I’m out of the loop. And I found out that my rent wasn’t being paid. And now that I’m able to get a lower income of housing I’m being told by management here at the property that I need to hurry up and sign my lease when there are damages, i.e., a big old hole in the ceiling of the bathroom and the thermostat not working. It seems like these companies work together and they try to make the person like myself feel as though I’m crazy almost by saying that you have to hold off but then the other parties saying you have to hurry up and expedite. And I just don’t know what to do. I’m at a complete and utter loss and I just need prayer. I need prayer so bad because I’m afraid of being homeless again. I’m afraid of my children finally being stable and it could be taken away from us. And I’m afraid bad because of my situation and circumstance maybe they believe that I’m not apt enough to understand clearly. I just need guidance and direction because I’m so tired. I’m so tired of being tired. And it hurts so bad to feel as though on this earth I am alone and by myself and mostly I’m just…

Hello Daily Audio Bible this is Janelle living in China and I wanted to call and say I am caught up. Yay. At one point last year I was over two months behind and now it is February 7th 11:37 AM in __ China and I am caught up. I just listened to today. That was all I had to listen to today. Yay. I also wanted to do a little bit of gratitude because I have not been doing much of that. So, Lord I thank you that I am living in China and I am able with the low cost of living that China has I am so grateful for my job even though it is stressful and I am trying to learn how to teach without any formal education. It’s still an amazing journey and I’m so grateful for it. I am also, as strange as this may seem, grateful for Covid still happening in the US because my church, Church of the Highlands in Alabama, is now doing online small group classes and I can be in a small group. It’s at 5:00 AM on Sunday but I can be in a small group. I will wake up for that. I just…I miss that so much and I am so grateful that I’m now able to get back into being in small groups with my church even though I’m living in China. It’s amazing and I can’t believe it. I’m…I’m in shock. I’m just odd that says even possible a possibility…

This is Whitney in South Florida and I’m here with my kids Finley, Levin, and Lenna and we just wanted to call. And mommy had heard a message from Jody from Arizona and she wanted prayers for her granddaughter Leslie. And we just wanted to let Jody know that we heard her prayer request and we are praying for Leslie and we are praying for that whole family and your daughters one year old as well. Just that their home would be safe and Leslie would feel…that Leslie would just feel Jesus comforting loving arms all around her and know that Jesus is King. And it happens that Ezekiel in his reading had the perfect words that maybe another kid to another kid could hear and he had a great prayer on February 7th, and it was just about the devil and that he has no place in our homes. And, so, we just pray that over Leslie just as Ezekiel did. And the kids wanted to tell Ezekiel one of their favorite parts about his reading and what is that you guys? Bye. Bye guys!

Hi neighbors it’s Lisa the Encourager. I’m calling tonight because I really had God press upon my heart to share with you a bit of encouragement regarding the reading that Brian did a couple of…probably a week or so ago and it was about when the disciple asked Jesus, what is the greatest commandment. And, of course, Jesus replied back to love the Lord your guard with all your heart and your soul and all your mind. And then the second one was to love your neighbor as yourself. And I really embraced that I think it was a couple of years ago and that’s when I started calling in and I’d refer to all of you as my neighbors, to remind me to love you as I love myself. And this year God pressed on my heart to share with you the first commandment and that is to love the Lord our God with all our heart our soul and our mind. And I really started thinking hard about that, like how…what would that look like in action. You know, of course we can say it with our words and our lips but in action. And the only thing that really only came to my mind and the Holy Spirit bless me with was your prayers. Your prayers to God shows the tremendous amount of love. Just think about when somebody calls into the Daily Audio Bible and they call out your name and you hear it and how much it just…it just warms your heart. Well, that’s probably the feeling that God, when you call upon His name and you seek Him, and you pray daily. So, I just encourage you to show love God and put that to action, that first commandment, to love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul and all your mind.

Exodus 32:1-33:23, Matthew 26:69-27:14, Psalms 33:1-11, Proverbs 8:33-36

Today is the 11th day of February welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian it is an honor and a privilege, it is a joy to come in out of the cold and come around the Global Campfire together with you and just let it go, let any…any of the things that are pulling us in all kinds of negative directions just let them go for a minute and let this be an oasis for God’s word, for the Scriptures to be read and for us to bring them into our minds and hearts. I will say it probably 100 times before this year’s over. I mean we don’t have to drag the anxiety in here. This is a safe place. We’re here together. We’re here together for one reason. We don’t have to guard ourselves. We’re here together for one reason, to hear the Scriptures. We can go back into the anxiety when we’re done, We can even amp it up. We can leave here as if it doesn’t matter and go right back and pick all that up or maybe we can catch our breath in here and maybe we can go back out into the world with a renewed perspective and that happens more than it doesn’t. And, so, let’s just let go, whatever’s going on. We just have a few minutes. We can take a break. If we want all that anxiousness, if we want all that depression, we can go pick it back up. But we can let go while we’re in here and see what God does through His…His word today. So, we’re reading from the Christian Standard Bible this week going back to the book of Exodus and God has been meeting with Moses on the top of Mount Sinai. He has been laying out the expectations and weaving together the tapestry of a culture that will be formed out of these former slaves who…who are Hebrew people. He’s reforming them and the people have been all around the mountain freaking out. Moses has been gone a long time up in the clouds, the…the glory of the Lord upon the mountain. And, so, they don’t know what’s going on. And we’re gonna see…we’re gonna some things today that shouldn’t have happened and we’re going to see ourself in those things. Exodus chapters 32 and 33 today.

Commentary:

Okay. So, in the book of Exodus, the story of the golden calf, that’s a pretty famous story. And so…well…chances are we’ve encountered it in one way or another before. This happens because Moses has been gone too long in the presence of God hearing from the Lord what he, you know, how to lead the people and what the expectations are, all the stuff that we’ve been reading for the last several days. Meanwhile this…this whole thing takes 40 days, and the people are down around the mountain going, “whatever happened Moses?” And “where do we go from here because we don’t know what happened to him?” And, so, they decide to make a god, the gods for themselves to lead them forward and leave Moses behind. And, so, they commission Aaron. And we know this will story. Then God tells Moses to go down and Moses goes down and he throws down the tablets and they shatter, and this visually represents the breaking, like almost the instantaneous breaking of the covenant, the breaking of the law of the expectations of God. And he confronts the people about their idol worship. He confronts his brother Aaron about their idol worship. Aaron does all this whole back side-stepping blurring of the whole situation that we’ve probably seen so many times in our lives or even done so many times in our lives. Aaron is directly confronted about what he has participated in and he’s like, “what? How? You know. What? You know how these people are. You know how they are. And I don’t really know what I did wrong. I just told them give me all your jewelry and I threw it over here in the fire and out came this idol and so we worshiped it”, which of course…I mean…it’s like, “dude couldn’t you’ve…you don’t think very quickly on your feet do you? Like we can all see through this.” And Moses is just exasperated. He has been in the presence of God receiving this revelation about this people and formation. And, so, it’s like quite a contrast to come down off the mountain and see what’s going on. So, he grinds up the…the golden calf and everybody has to drink the water that it’s poured into and then Moses goes back up onto the mountain and it gets really interesting because Moses is back up on the mountain kinda changed. Like he knows how ornery and rebellious these people are. He’s one of them. He knows, but it’s like things just went to a new level. God has done so many miraculous things to rescue and protect this people. And they are around this mountain that God is descended upon and spoken. Like they’ve heard the voice of God at this mountain. It terrified them to the point that they asked Moses to be the spokesman for God and not God be the spokesman for God. So, they know God is upon this mountain and they know Moses is upon this mountain. So, Moses is back up on the mountain and God is like, “I’m not gonna go with you. It’s time…you need to lead to people but I’m not going to go so I don’t destroy the people.” This is like a whole change in complexion for Moses where he’s realizing deeply the gravity of the situation. He’s realizing for himself no matter how good of a leader he might be and no matter how revered he may be, he’s got almost 0% chance of success. Like if God doesn’t go this is not gonna work knows it. So, he’s pleading and asking like, “if you don’t want to go then just take me out of the story altogether because there’s no way.” And Moses says something really really riveting that we should be saying and meditating upon. He says, “you said” so, he’s speaking to God, “you said I know you by name.” In other words, Moses is saying, “you told me you knew who I was. And you also told me that you found favor with me. So, if indeed I have found favor with you” and I’m quoting here, “please teach me your ways and I will know you so that I might find favor with you.” God’s response to that is “my presence will go with you and I will give you rest.” May we remember that as we go out into the chaos of the day. Like if we’re gonna pick all that stuff up we were just talking about at the beginning, may we remember Moses and his leadership here. We don’t have a grandstander, we don’t have an arrogant person, we don’t have a power-hungry person here and Moses. We’re seeing a leadership style here in the Scriptures as we see the posture of Moses. And Moses is a human being and has done all kinds of things including asking God to send somebody else, but here we are. We’ve gone through all that, and now Moses reaches this point where he realizes very clearly, there really is no other way to lead or navigate life without an acute awareness of the utter dependence that we have on God. And when we acknowledge that then we are surrendering our own power and control into the hands of the Almighty knowing that there is no other way. And God responds, “my presence will go with you and I will give you rest.” May we remember that today.

Prayer:

Holy Spirit come into that. When we surrender it feels counterintuitive because it feels like we have to put our hope and trust outside of what we can control or speculate or see it forces us into this other realm called faith, that we believe in what we can’t see or prove, that we believe in Your power, that You are mighty to save and we are not. We need to know this. We need to live this. It could rescue us from so much damage. So, come Holy Spirit and help us learn to surrender. Help of us learn to acknowledge You in all things as we are seeing built into this culture may we find all of the things that will continually remind us of Your goodness and make them a part of our practice as we are continually reminded of who we are, Your children, and who You are, the most-high God and where we are going -wherever You go where all things are made new. Come Holy Spirit we pray in Jesus name, we ask. Amen.

Hi, this message is for Tyler from the February 8th podcast of the Daily Audio Bible. My name is Jessica from __ California and I just wanted to say a prayer for you. You said that you’ve been praying because you have a pitiful spirit. And I just wanted to let you know or share that God’s been working with me lately. Those are thoughts from the enemy and every time I think about, you know, I need to lose weight or condemn myself for eating something or not exercising enough, God’s been just having me repeat this over and over again when one of those thoughts comes in my head. He has me say, “thank you God for just the way I am. Thank you God for just the way I am.” And I know it sounds kinda silly but actually it’s only been less than a week and these thoughts are coming less and less into my mind. So, you know, I know it’s hard to love ourselves sometimes and the enemy really can get ahold of us but just know that Jesus loves you so much and you’re not a beautiful spirit. You are fearfully and wonderfully made. And I know people have told me that before and I’m like, “sure, sure. Easy for you to say.” But really, just believe it and just like right now actually have…I have a sheet covering my mirror, so I don’t look at myself, I don’t judge myself every day. I know it kind of sounds weird, but he really just has me trusting him and saying, “thank you God for just the way I am. Thank you God for just the way I am.” So, I encourage you Tyler that God loves you just the way you are, and you should be thankful for it. In Jesus’ name I pray.

This is Dave from the United States calling. This prayer call is for Haneron from New Zealand. Once I heard your call it stopped me in my tracks. You’ve been through some tough times. You’ve had the strength to call in and ask for prayer. And in detail you asked for a covering. I will be covering. This family, Daily Audio Bible will be your covering and the Holy Spirit will be your covering. I pray that you continue to call in anytime that you need strength from your covering. We will be here. And anytime give this family a call. Someone on this planet will be praying for you. I’m going to commit to a day to pray and fast for you and your family and the Holy Spirit be there for you. Thank you so much for calling and giving me the opportunity to ask our savior to pray and cover you and keep you…keep you covered as your request is.

Hi DAB family this is triple T calling to encourage those of you today who are longing for a spouse, longing for a child, longing for friendships just to be surrounded by love in a like tangible way. I know leading up to Valentine’s Day and that time frame is always quite difficult on people. I have many people in my life who are struggling and just want to encourage you guys, just press into the Lord and to seek Him and just to keep going after Him and letting him be or strength, your love, you’re all in all. In psalms 34 17 and 18 it says the righteous cry out and the Lord hears them. He delivers them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. So, Lord we just come to You right now. God, I thank You for these men and women across the globe. God You see their hearts, You hear the cry of their hearts Lord longing for a spouse, longing for a child, longing for a friend that they can walk through life with. God we just pray that You would open the doors of opportunity, Lord that You would give men wives and give women husbands Lord Jesus and give them together children Lord Jesus, that You would bring friendships that are unified Lord and strong and growing and encouraging and accountable Lord and just pressing into You God. Through all these things and their waiting in Your time and God we know Your timing is perfect. May You give them the strength to continue, may they press into You even more. Lord Jesus may You be their everything. All that they are, all that they have Lord may they press into You. We love You, we glorify Your name Jesus, for in Your name we pray all these things. Blessings and love. Bye.

Good morning DAB family this is Doctor John in Illinois good this morning I was listening to the prayers and I hear Greg from Washington. Brother it’s hard to hear all your troubles in your families but I guess what I hear…what I hear most of all is your love for your family and your concern. Again, your honestness and your contriteness is what I hear more than anything. And I want to read to you, this is psalms 57:15. For thus says the one who is high lifted up who inhabits eternity whose name is holy, I dwell in a high and holy place had also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite. Just know brother that He hears here. The word says there’s nothing outside His hand. There’s nothing He doesn’t see or touch or hear. And Father I pray for my brother right now for Greg and for all these Lord that petition you for their families. Lord would you woo their hearts. Just know brother that there’s a lot of people, a lot of brothers and sisters in this group, in this family, this wonderful family that are praying and believing for you that God will make a way for you. So, I pray, God bless you. Keep your head up and trust in God. Wait on the Lord and be of good courage for He strengthens your heart.
