1 Samuel 22:1-23:29, John 10:1-21, Psalms 115:1-18, Proverbs 15:18-19

Today is the 18th day of May. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian. It’s great to be here with you today, kind of moving ourselves into the back, back, the very back half of the week, getting ready for the weekend and I’m excited that we can take this time this of out of our busy busyness and center ourselves in the Scriptures. So, we’ll pick up the story of Saul and David that we’re reading in First Samuel. David is now complete fugitive on the run from Saul. He knows that Saul’s intentions are to kill him. And, so, he’s running for his life. First Samuel chapter 22 and 23 today and we’re reading from the Christian Standard Bible this week.

Commentary:

Okay. So, in the book of John, Jesus says something today right out of his own mouth that should make us sit up and pay attention because so often in our faith journey we’re wondering if we’re doing it right. Like, is this how it’s supposed to work? Am I doing this correctly? And we continue to struggle with our identity, especially our spiritual identity. And, so, we have things like, these declarations of who we are in Christ to remind ourselves. And I’m in the way saying those things are wrong. Usually those lists are…something…declarations straight out of Scripture. But Jesus says something today that’s bigger than all of that. Jesus said, I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me just as the Father knows me and I know the Father. In other words, the intimacy we see between Jesus and the Father is the same kind of intimacy we can experience with Jesus. That flourishing, always on, never off intimacy and relationship that we see modeled in the life of Jesus is available to us. But it’s not going to just happen. It’s going to happen when we seek it with all of our heart. But it is phenomenal to have a description from Jesus about what is achievable and available to us. So, let’s get that…let’s give that some time to seep into our lives today, invite the Holy Spirit into that, and consider it throughout this day. I know my own and my own know me just as the Father knows me and I know the Father. This is that longing inside, the deepest longing pulling us ever deeper into our faith. This is what is available to us right now.

Prayer:

Holy Spirit. It’s always available, whether we’re paying attention or not, whether were participating or not, it is available. And, so, You’re not the hold up here. So often You get blamed for being the hold up, but You’re not the hold up here. You’re offering us union, relationship, and the intimacy that our hearts long for. And, so, Holy Spirit, we invite You, completely. We surrender to You, completely. It is this union, this connection that we seek. We ask that You help us to be continually aware, that we might be awake and alert to what is available to us. We love You Jesus. We love You and You know us and we know You and we want that to be ever deepening so that it is continual, always on our mind, the thing that we seek first. Come, Holy Spirit we pray. In Jesus’ name we ask. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hi my beautiful family. This is Pastor Gene from Bradenton Florida. I’m so tired family. If you could pray for me that the Lord will give me strength. You know, I like to think of my life as that alabaster jar, not the woman, but the actual alabaster, the actual perfume inside of the jar. And I love pouring out my life for the Lord, but I’m an old woman now family. I just turned 50. So, the pouring is getting harder and harder. Sometimes __ . So, if you guys could pray for me. I am a joyful __ . Please join me in prayer family. Father, we pray for Brian and his family and we thank You for the wonderful calling in his life that allows us to be blessed, to be blessed by the word and be blessed by one another. Father, we thank You for our sister Susan from Canada. Her mom is in the last stages of her life on this earth and we rejoice that she knows You, that she has walked with You and we know that in the future You are with her is amazing. But we know that our sister Susan, her dad, this sister is going through a difficult time. It’s always hard to say goodbye to a loved one. So, we pray for the strength, for the courage to pray that You will lift them up and draw them close to you __. We pray for the mother of our brother Lee from New Jersey who is also ill and we pray for your healing touch upon her life. Father, we mourn with our sister Walda for the passing of her mom but we rejoice that she is now in her glory and hurts no more. And finally, we pray for our sister Kristi from Kentucky and we call her out of any jail of depression, sadness, or anxiety to have comfort through life and life in abundance. And we pray this all this in Jesus…

Hello Daily Audio Bible. This is Wayne from Wisconsin. All praise and glory to our wonderful Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Calling in for couple of the DABbers today. GG, it was great to hear from you again. We will, of course, keep your dad in our prayers with his cancer and his issues with anxiety and also your sister, I believe one is a nurse, and another one has or would like to have the baby. So, we’ll definitely keep them in our prayers. And Melina called in. You are struggling with, Brian talked about bones rotting. You took that to heart. So, we pray for you that your bones will be strengthened and your faith will be healed. So, Lord we want to lift of GG and her family - her dad and two sisters and Melina. We’d like to lift them up to you Lord. Please put Your loving arms around them. Give them comfort, peace, direction, guidance, especially for Melina. Please Lord, have the Holy Spirit come upon her. Give her peace. Give her direction Lord. We want to lift this all up in your name. And today is day 42 of praying for our children. It is May 15th. So, today I’d like to pray for all of the people out there who support children, whether it’s foster children or do it though some other means, adopt a child, or through compassion, or some other resource. So, Lord, please lift up those of us that financially support the missions that go out and reach other children in the world. Lord, we ask that you would continue to financially give us that means to do that. Give them peace and comfort, and that this may be a light for you. We lift this all up in Jesus’ name. Amen and God bless. And Brian and Jill thank you for this podcast.

Good morning my DAB family. I don’t call very often but this is Lori Music, the transplant from Chicago down to Arkansas. And it’s May, which means I’m calling in for Constance. Constance, you called the DAB line 8 years ago and you are so distraught and really touched my heart and I still pray for you darling. And I know you were struggling in your marriage and your spouse was making you feel so worthless. But you are not worthless. Know that others are still praying for you and I hope you’re still listening. Constance, we lift you up and I just pray that you give the Lord all your fears and anxieties over to Him. Just give yourself fully to Jesus. Let Him make you and mold you and use you. And, Father God, this day I place Constance in your care, thanking You for your blessed assurance that Jesus is hers, Jesus is mine, Jesus is there for everyone and He loves you Constance and He loves us. He will never leave you nor forsake you. We just lift you up and we recover you in the precious blood of Jesus and that your days will be blessed and full of joy. And I hope to hear from you someday knowing that in these eight years darling I’m still praying for you. Love you family. Take care and God bless.

Hi DAB family. This is Rob S. Worship Dude in Nashville and I’m calling you from Keyab Ukraine, where I am finishing up a ministry trip here. It’s May 15th as I call and I’ve got a little more teaching to do. I just want to give a praise report and I put a request up on the Facebook page and I have just really felt the covering of the DAB family as I’ve been ministering here. And I have a request. I leave tomorrow, the 17th, I’ll be flying back and I would really covet your prayers, not only for the trip, but also for like the week or so after coming back because health problems, jet lag, and then just getting back into the reentry issues of work and my other responsibilities can really pile up and I find that it helps to have people praying for the enemy to just be backed off, you know, from attacking us once we return from a trip like this. So, anyway, thank you guys. I love you. I appreciate you and the Lord be with you. Bless you.
