Numbers 36 - Deuteronomy 1

The Rights of Women to Inherit Land

36 The heads of the households whose families were descended from Gilead, son of Machir and grandson of Manasseh, (families of Joseph’s descendants) came and spoke to Moses and the leaders of the other Israelite households. They said, “Sir, the Lord commanded you to give the Israelites their land by drawing lots. The Lord also commanded you to give the land of our relative Zelophehad to his daughters. Suppose they marry men from the other tribes of Israel. Their land will be taken away from that of our ancestors and added to the land of the tribe they marry into. Then we will have lost part of our land. When the Israelites’ jubilee year comes, their land will be added to that of the tribe they married into. Then part of the land of our ancestors’ tribe will be gone.”

So Moses gave the Israelites a command from the Lord. “The tribe of Joseph’s descendants is right. This is what the Lord commands for Zelophehad’s daughters: They may marry anyone they want to, but only within a family of their ancestor’s tribe. In this way no land of the Israelites will pass from one tribe to another. Every Israelite must keep the tribal land inherited from his ancestors. A woman who inherits land in any of the tribes of Israel may marry a man from any family in her ancestor’s tribe. In this way every Israelite keeps the land inherited from his ancestors. No land may pass from one tribe to another. Each Israelite tribe must keep the land it inherits.”

10 Zelophehad’s daughters did as the Lord commanded Moses. 11 Mahlah, Tirzah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Noah married their cousins on their father’s side of the family. 12 They married within the families of the descendants of Manasseh, son of Joseph. So their land stayed in the tribe of their father’s family.

13 These are the commands and rules the Lord gave the Israelites through Moses on the plains of Moab near the Jordan River across from Jericho.

Moses Speaks to the People 40 Years after Leaving Egypt

This is the speech Moses gave in the desert east of the Jordan River, on the plains, near Suph, between Paran and Tophel, and near Laban, Hazeroth, and Di Zahab. He spoke to all the Israelites. (It takes 11 days to go from Mount Horeb to Kadesh Barnea by way of Mount Seir.)

On the first day of the eleventh month in the fortieth year ⌞after they had left Egypt⌟, Moses told the Israelites everything the Lord had commanded him to tell them. This was after he had defeated King Sihon of the Amorites, who ruled in Heshbon, and King Og of Bashan, who ruled in Ashtaroth and [a] in Edrei. The Israelites were east of the Jordan River in Moab when Moses began to review God’s teachings.

Moses Reminds Israel of the Events at Mount Horeb

This is what he said:

At Mount Horeb the Lord our God said to us, “You have stayed at this mountain long enough. Break camp, and get ready! Go to the mountain region of the Amorites, and go to everyone living on the plains, in the mountains, in the foothills, in the Negev, on the whole Mediterranean coast (the land of the Canaanites), and into Lebanon as far as the Euphrates River. I’m giving you this land. Enter, and take possession of the land the Lord swore to give to your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and to you, their descendants.”

At that time I said to you, “I’m not able to take care of you by myself. 10 The Lord your God has made your population increase so that you are now as numerous as the stars in the sky. 11 May the Lord God of your ancestors make you a thousand times more numerous, and may he bless you as he has promised. 12 How can I take care of your problems, your troubles, and your disagreements all by myself? 13 From each of your tribes, choose some men who are wise, intelligent, and experienced, and I’ll appoint them to be your leaders.”

14 You agreed that this was a good idea.

15 So I took the heads of your tribes who were wise and experienced men and made them officers for each of your tribes. I put them in charge of groups of 1,000, or 100, or 50, or 10 people. 16 Also at that time I gave these instructions to your judges: “Hear the cases that your people bring. Judge each case fairly, no matter whether it is ⌞a dispute⌟ between two Israelites or ⌞a dispute⌟ between an Israelite and a non-Israelite. 17 Be impartial in your decisions. Listen to the least important people the same way you listen to the most important people. Never be afraid of anyone, since your decisions come from God. You may bring me any case that’s too hard for you, and I will hear it.” 18 So I told you how to handle these situations.

Moses Reminds Israel of the Events at Kadesh Barnea

19 So we left Mount Horeb, as the Lord our God had commanded. We traveled through all that vast and dangerous desert you saw on the way to the mountain region of the Amorites. At last we came to Kadesh Barnea. 20 Then I said to you, “We have come to the mountain region of the Amorites, which the Lord our God is giving us. 21 The Lord your God is giving you this land. Go ahead! Take possession of it, as the Lord God of your ancestors told you. Don’t be afraid or terrified.”

22 All of you came to me and said, “Let’s send men ahead of us to gather information about the land for us. Have them report to us about the route we should take and the cities we’ll come to.”

23 It seemed like a good idea to me. So I chose 12 of your men, one from each tribe. 24 They left and went into the mountains. When they came to the Eshcol Valley, they explored it. 25 They took some of the region’s fruit with them and brought it back to us. They reported, “The land that the Lord our God is giving us is good.”

26 But you rebelled against the command of the Lord your God and refused to go. 27 You complained in your tents and said, “The Lord hates us! That’s why he brought us out of Egypt. He wanted to hand us over to the Amorites so that they could destroy us! 28 Where are we going anyway? Our own men have discouraged us by saying, ‘The people there are taller and stronger than we are. The cities are big with sky-high walls! We even saw the people of Anak there.’ ”

29 Then I said to you, “Don’t tremble. Don’t be afraid of them. 30 The Lord your God, who is going ahead of you, will fight for you as you saw him fight for you in Egypt 31 and in the desert.” There you saw how the Lord your God carried you, as parents carry their children. He carried you wherever you went until you came to this place.

32 In spite of this, you didn’t trust the Lord your God, 33 who went ahead of you to find places for you to camp. He appeared in a column of fire at night and in a column of smoke during the day to show you which route to take.

34 When the Lord heard what you said, he was angry and took this oath: 35 “Not one of these evil people will ever see the good land that I swore to give to your ancestors, 36 except Caleb, son of Jephunneh. He will see it, and I will give the land that he set his feet on to him and his descendants, because he wholeheartedly followed the Lord.”

37 The Lord became angry with me because of you. He said, “You won’t go there either. 38 But your assistant Joshua, son of Nun, will go there. Encourage him, because he will help Israel take possession of the land. 39 Although you thought the little children would be captured in war, your children, who are still too young to know the difference between good and evil, will enter that land. I will give it to them, and they will take possession of it. 40 Turn around, go back into the desert, and follow the road that goes to the Red Sea.”

41 You responded, “We have sinned against the Lord. We’ll go and fight, as the Lord our God commanded us to do.” Each of you armed yourself for war, thinking you could easily invade the mountain region.

42 But the Lord said to me, “Tell them, ‘Don’t go and fight, because I won’t be with you. You will be defeated by your enemies.’ ”

43 I told you, but you wouldn’t listen. You defied the Lord’s command and invaded the mountain region. 44 The Amorites who lived there came out and attacked you and chased you like a swarm of bees. They defeated you, chasing you from Seir all the way to Hormah. 45 When you came back, you cried to the Lord, but the Lord didn’t listen to you or hear you. 46 That’s why you stayed in Kadesh as long as you did.

Luke 5:29-6:11

29 Levi held a large reception at his home for Jesus. A huge crowd of tax collectors and others were eating with them.

30 The Pharisees and their experts in Moses’ Teachings complained to Jesus’ disciples. They asked, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”

31 Jesus answered them, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor; those who are sick do. 32 I’ve come to call sinners to change the way they think and act, not to call people who think they have God’s approval.”

Jesus Is Questioned about Fasting(A)

33 They said to him, “John’s disciples frequently fast and say prayers, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees. But your disciples eat and drink.”

34 Jesus asked them, “Can you force wedding guests to fast while the groom is still with them? 35 The time will come when the groom will be taken away from them. At that time they will fast.”

36 He also used these illustrations: “No one tears a piece of cloth from a new coat to patch an old coat. Otherwise, the new cloth will tear the old. Besides, the patch from the new will not match the old. 37 People don’t pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the new wine will make the skins burst. The wine will run out, and the skins will be ruined. 38 Rather, new wine is to be poured into fresh skins.

39 “No one who has been drinking old wine wants new wine. He says, ‘The old wine is better!’ ”

Jesus Has Authority over the Day of Rest—a Holy Day(B)

Once, on a day of rest—a holy day, Jesus was walking through some grainfields. His disciples were picking the heads of grain, removing the husks, and eating the grain.

Some of the Pharisees asked, “Why are your disciples doing something that is not right to do on the day of rest—a holy day?”

Jesus answered them, “Haven’t you read what David did when he and his men were hungry? Haven’t you read how he went into the house of God, ate the bread of the presence, and gave some of it to the men who were with him? He had no right to eat those loaves. Only the priests have that right.”

Then he added, “The Son of Man has authority over the day of rest—a holy day.”

Jesus Heals on the Day of Rest—a Holy Day(C)

On another day of rest—a holy day, Jesus went into a synagogue to teach. A man whose right hand was paralyzed was there. The experts in Moses’ Teachings and the Pharisees were watching Jesus closely. They wanted to see whether he would heal the man on the day of rest—a holy day, so that they could find a way to accuse him of doing something wrong.

But Jesus knew what they were thinking. So he told the man with the paralyzed hand, “Get up, and stand in the center ⌞of the synagogue⌟!” The man got up and stood there. Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you—what is the right thing to do on a day of rest—a holy day: to do good or evil, to give a person his health or to destroy it?” 10 He looked around at all of them and then said to the man, “Hold out your hand.” The man did so, and his hand became normal again.

11 The experts in Moses’ Teachings and Pharisees were furious and began to discuss with each other what they could do to Jesus.

Psalm 66

For the choir director; a song; a psalm.

66 Shout happily to God, all the earth!
Make music to praise the glory of his name.
Make his praise glorious.
Say to God,
“How awe-inspiring are your deeds!
Your power is so great that your enemies will cringe in front of you.
The whole earth will worship you.
It will make music to praise you.
It will make music to praise your name.” Selah
Come and see what God has done—
his awe-inspiring deeds for Adam’s descendants.
He turned the sea into dry land.
They crossed the river on foot.
We rejoiced because of what he did there.
He rules forever with his might.
His eyes watch the nations.
Rebels will not be able to oppose him. Selah

Thank our God, you nations.
Make the sound of his praise heard.
He has kept us alive
and has not allowed us to fall.
10 You have tested us, O God.
You have refined us in the same way silver is refined.
11 You have trapped us in a net.
You have laid burdens on our backs.
12 You let people ride over our heads.
We went through fire and water,
but then you brought us out and refreshed us.

13 I will come into your temple with burnt offerings.
I will keep my vows to you,
14 the vows made by my lips and spoken by my ⌞own⌟ mouth
when I was in trouble.
15 I will offer you a sacrifice of fattened livestock for burnt offerings
with the smoke from rams.
I will offer cattle and goats. Selah

16 Come and listen, all who fear God,
and I will tell you what he has done for me.
17 With my mouth I cried out to him.
High praise was on my tongue.
18 If I had thought about doing anything sinful,
the Lord would not have listened ⌞to me⌟.
19 But God has heard me.
He has paid attention to my prayer.

20 Thanks be to God,
who has not rejected my prayer
or taken away his mercy from me.

Proverbs 11:24-26

24 One person spends freely and yet grows richer,
while another holds back what he owes and yet grows poorer.
25 A generous person will be made rich,
and whoever satisfies others will himself be satisfied.[a]
26 People will curse the one who hoards grain,
but a blessing will be upon the head of the one who sells it.

Numbers 33:40-35:34, Luke 5:12-28, Psalm 65:1-13, Proverbs 11:23

Today is the 22nd day of March, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I’m Brian, it’s great to be here with you today. Like it always is as a come around the Global Campfire and take the next step forward together through the Scriptures. And we are rounding the corner on the Book of Numbers, we’ll be concluding Numbers tomorrow, but today we have a little ground to cover so that that can happen. Numbers chapter 33 verse 40 through 35 verse 34 today.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word and we have reached our last full day in the Book of Numbers and we’ll finish Numbers and transition tomorrow and so there’s plenty to talk about then but we see regulations, statutes being implemented, being given to this next generation, the one that had to grow up in the wilderness, wandering for 40 years, things that they’re going to need to know and establish in the Promised Land when they have the cities, things that pull the people forward into a more cohesive civilized people under You, under God.

And then once again, we flip over into the Gospel of Luke and we see a chasm between the religious leaders trying to steward these rules and statutes. And Jesus, which lets us know that things got sideways and upside down somewhere and that somewhere was not You. And so, once again we can see that, left to our own devices trying to be in control and power, we end up corrupting ourselves, operating in contrary ways to You while thinking we’re doing You a favor, which yet again, like most every day, gives us pause and an opportunity to simply reflect. Is what we say and do represent You and Your will and Your ways? Or does it represent what we think You want or what we’ve been told here after because it’s pretty clear in the Scriptures that what You want is our hearts, You want us, You want us to give ourselves to You unreservedly, naked and unashamed, after the same fashion that You have given Yourself to us. You aren’t demanding our loyalty or demanding our love, You have loved us first, and Your love compels us and sometimes it compels us to self-reflection. So, come Holy Spirit, we pray, in the name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.

Prayer and Encouragements:

Hello, this is Angel Heart. I just have a prayer request. I was in the hospital last night having problems with my voices and I met this gentleman his name was Michael. He had been in the military and he was having problems. I overheard his conversation with his mom and I guess he had jumped out of the car while it was moving and he went down a cliff. And he’s okay but after he got off the phone, I waited a little bit and then I said Michael, and Michael drew the curtains and he said yes ma’am, and I said maybe you should give Jesus a chance and he said, yeah but I’m a heathen though. And I said, God even gives heathens a chance. And then we stopped and he started pacing the floor and he talked to me for a little bit and then he started pacing the floor again and when he got to my bed he went back to the desk and he asked the people for a bible and they didn’t have one. So, I told him he could have my bible and he took my bible and started reading it and he got through a lot of the, I told him to start, well, I didn’t know where to tell him to start but he started in Proverbs. I don’t know if that was the right chapter to say or not but I did tell him to start in Proverbs. I would just like you guys to pray for him if you could. And hope that he can give God a chance. Thank you.

My name is Santiago calling, I consider myself a Beloved Child of God. Calling from Maryland and I just heard a prayer request by sister Grace about her bullies. It broke my heart sister and I want to pray. Heavenly Father, please help this poor woman and the desperation, the pain in her heart was so evident Father God. And I believe that You have a purpose in this confrontation that she’s experiencing, this suffering Father God, that she’s expressing. Father God, please give this woman the strength, be beside her, accompany her, Father God. Strengthen her, give her that peace that’s beyond understanding, give her that strength that will help her maintain the course. And Father God, should she lose her employment, I pray that there would be something else available for her. Father God, please help this woman. Now, help her and help her in the future and give her the strength to proceed with whatever plans You have for her, Father God. I know that You love her, we feel Your love for her through us, Father God as we feel compassion for her, Father God, and trust that You will provide. And we pray Father God, that You will be with her. In Your Sons precious name, Jesus Christ. Please mighty Father, please Lord Jesus, help this poor woman. Amen.

Hi everyone, this is Karen in St. Louis. Diane Olive Brown, you are such a sweet woman. I love you so much and so grateful for your comment and your prayers for me. I just cried when I heard your message. So grateful that you have a loving husband that’s like Jesus with skin on and that you’ll be celebrating 50 years of marriage. What an incredible testimony to God’s faithfulness, thank you so much for praying for me. And Grace, I heard your prayer hon. I, just my heart goes out to you. I’ve been there. I, about 30 years ago was persecuted relentlessly. When I was a newer believer and eventually lost that job, they let me go and I met with my pastor, it was just so hard. I met with him several times throughout the, I don’t know how many years I worked there but I know what it’s like to be in that fire and I am just wanted to pray for you. Father God, I just pray that You would strengthen Grace, that You would help her to put on her armor each day, Father, that she would keep that breastplate of righteousness on and the helmet of salvation, the sword of the Spirit Lord, put that shield of faith out in front of her and the sandals of peace and the belt of truth that holds everything altogether, Lord, as she goes into the battle each day. I pray Father God, that You would open the door to another opportunity for a place for her to work Lord, that You would, in the meantime, give her, just help her to be basically walking in Your spirit and I pray that You would encourage her heart. Give her strength and help her to know that she is loved so much more by You. That she is the daughter of the King and Jesus

Hi Daily Audio Bible family, my names Michael and I would like it if y'all could please pray for my autistic brother named Elijah. My brother has been going through a lot of stress recently and I found out from my cousin today that he has been cussing in school, that he’s been, he’s been shouting in class and scaring away all the other special needs children that are in the classes with him. That he’s been quoting a bunch of like emotional, like a bunch of scenes from movies that cause emotional like uproar. Like, he would quote like, I am bolted to the wall from Beauty and the Beast. I think Beauty and the Beast II, it was but yeah, he’s been quoting a bunch of those sort of quotes. He loves the emotional stark that he gets from movies like that but we’re trying to help teach him right to not cuss. And so, if you could all please pray for my brother. I would really appreciate it. And if you could also please pray for my family so, me, my cousin, niece and my brother. We’re all the ones that are living together and so we’ve kind of been going through a lot of stress recently because my cousins being overwhelmed with so much work to help keep a roof over our heads since my mom had passed away and my dad is in Kansas. Please pray for us.

Hi everyone, this is Rob from Alabama. This message is for Halo from Colorado. Just wanted to say I heard your request for prayer the other day when one of your friends was not being a good influence on you and I just want to say how proud of you I am, for having the wisdom at such a young age and the courage to stand up to someone who’s not really looking out for your best interest. I’ve had many friends that were not doing things they should’ve been doing and I didn’t just write them off, I tried to stay friends with them. But I did not let them influence my life. I tried to stay on the narrow path as God has instructed and it was very hard but years later at a high school reunion, some people came up to me and one of them actually came to our reunion just because of me and it really shocked me because he said you were my friend and he was doing things that negatively influenced my life but I tried to just be there, I didn’t hang out with him that much but I tried to at least, you know, not just totally isolate myself from him but it really was shocking that he said I was a positive influence on his life that maybe what Emma is is a little upset because you may be one of the positive influences in her life and she may not want to let you go. So maybe you can reconcile one day but you surely want to just stand up for what’s right and I am again so proud of you and will be praying for you. Stay strong, little one. Everything is going to be okay. Don’t let the devil make you feel bad for doing what is right.

Be done, Be done, Let Your will Oh Lord, be done.
Be done, Be done, Let Your will Oh Lord, be done.
Let it be on earth as it is in Heaven.
Let Your will Oh Lord, be done.
Let it be on earth as it is in Heaven.
Let Your will Oh Lord, be done.

Numbers 33:40-35:34

40 (The Canaanite king of Arad, who lived in the Negev, which was in Canaan, heard that the Israelites were coming.)

41 They moved from Mount Hor and set up camp at Zalmonah.

42 They moved from Zalmonah and set up camp at Punon.

43 They moved from Punon and set up camp at Oboth.

44 They moved from Oboth and set up camp at Iye Abarim on the border of Moab.

45 They moved from Iyim [a] and set up camp at Dibon Gad.

46 They moved from Dibon Gad and set up camp at Almon Diblathaim.

47 They moved from Almon Diblathaim and set up camp in the Abarim Mountains east of Nebo.

48 They moved from the Abarim Mountains and set up camp on the plains of Moab near the Jordan River across from Jericho. 49 They set up camp on the plains of Moab along the Jordan. Their camp extended from Beth Jeshimoth to Abel Shittim.

The Canaanites Must Be Forced Out

50 The Lord said to Moses on the plains of Moab near the Jordan River across from Jericho, 51 “Tell the Israelites, ‘You will be crossing the Jordan River and entering Canaan. 52 As you advance, force out all the people who live there. Get rid of all their stone and metal idols, and destroy all their places of worship. 53 Take possession of the land and live there, because I will give it to you for your own. 54 Divide the land among your families by drawing lots. Give more land to larger families and less land to smaller ones. The land must be given to each family by drawing lots. Divide it among your ancestors’ tribes.

55 “ ‘But if you do not force out those who live in the land, they will be like splinters in your eyes and thorns in your sides. They will constantly fight with you over the land you live in. 56 Then I will do to you what I planned to do to them.’ ”

The Boundaries of Israel’s Land

34 The Lord said to Moses, “Give the Israelites these instructions. When you enter Canaan, the land that will be given to you as your inheritance has these borders:

“The southern side includes part of the Desert of Zin along the border of Edom. In the east the southern border starts from the end of the Dead Sea and turns south of the Akrabbim Pass. It then goes past Zin and ends at Kadesh Barnea. From there it goes to Hazar Addar and on to Azmon. From Azmon it turns toward the River of Egypt so that the border ends at the Mediterranean Sea.

“The western border is the coastline of the Mediterranean Sea.

“The northern border extends from the Mediterranean Sea to Mount Hor, and from Mount Hor to the border of Hamath so that it ends at Zedad. From there the border goes to Ziphron and ends at Hazar Enan.

10 “The eastern border extends from Hazar Enan to Shepham. 11 From Shepham the border goes down to Riblah, east of Ain, and continues along the eastern slope of the Sea of Galilee. 12 Then the border goes along the Jordan River so that it ends at the Dead Sea.

“This will be your land and the borders around it.”

13 Moses commanded the Israelites, “This is the land you will divide by drawing lots. The Lord has commanded that this land will be given to the nine-and-a-half tribes. 14 The households from the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half of the tribe of Manasseh have already received their land. 15 Those two-and-a-half tribes received land east of the Jordan River across from Jericho.”

Men Are Appointed to Divide the Land

16 The Lord said to Moses, 17 “These are the names of the men who will divide the land for you: the priest Eleazar and Joshua, son of Nun. 18 You must also take one leader from each tribe to divide the land. 19 These are their names:

Caleb, son of Jephunneh, from the tribe of Judah;

20 Shemuel, son of Ammihud, from the tribe of Simeon;

21 Elidad, son of Kislon, from the tribe of Benjamin;

22 Bukki, son of Jogli, the leader of the tribe of Dan;

23 Hanniel, son of Ephod, the leader of the tribe of Manasseh;

24 Kemuel, son of Shiphtan, the leader of the tribe of Ephraim;

(Manasseh and Ephraim are Joseph’s descendants.) [b]

25 Elizaphan, son of Parnach, the leader of the tribe of Zebulun;

26 Paltiel, son of Azzan, the leader of the tribe of Issachar;

27 Ahihud, son of Shelomi, the leader of the tribe of Asher;

28 Pedahel, son of Ammihud, the leader of the tribe of Naphtali.”

29 These are the men the Lord commanded to divide Canaan for the Israelites.

Cities for the Levites

35 The Lord spoke to Moses on the plains of Moab near the Jordan River across from Jericho. He said, “Tell the Israelites to give the Levites some cities from their own property. They must also give the Levites the pastureland around those cities. Then the Levites will have cities to live in and pastureland for their cattle, the flocks they own, and any other animals they have.

“The land around the cities that you give the Levites will extend 1,500 feet from the city wall. Outside the city measure off 3,000 feet on the east side, 3,000 feet on the south side, 3,000 feet on the west side, and 3,000 feet on the north side, with the city in the center. This will be their pastureland around the city.

“Six of the cities you give the Levites will be cities of refuge. You must allow murderers to escape to these cities. In addition, you must also give the Levites 42 other cities. So you will give a total of 48 cities with pastureland to the Levites. The cities you give the Levites from the property of the other Israelites must be given based on the amount of land each tribe owns. Take more cities from larger tribes and fewer from smaller tribes.”

Cities of Refuge

The Lord said to Moses, 10 “Tell the Israelites: When you cross the Jordan River and enter Canaan, 11 select certain cities to be places of refuge. Anyone who unintentionally kills another person may run to them. 12 These cities will be places of refuge from any relative who can avenge the death. So anyone accused of murder will not have to die until he has had a trial in front of the community. 13 There will be six cities you select as places of refuge, 14 three on the east side of the Jordan River and three in Canaan. 15 These six cities will be places of refuge for Israelites, foreigners, and strangers among you. Anyone who unintentionally kills another person may flee to these cities.

16 “But if any of you uses an iron weapon to kill another person, you are a murderer. Murderers must be put to death. 17 If any of you picks up a stone as a weapon and uses it to kill another person, you are a murderer. Murderers must be put to death. 18 Or if any of you picks up a piece of wood as a weapon and uses it to kill another person, you are a murderer. Murderers must be put to death. 19 The relative who can avenge the death must make sure a murderer is put to death. When he catches up with the murderer, he must kill him. 20 If any of you kills someone you hate by shoving him or by deliberately throwing something at him, 21 or if you beat your enemy to death with your bare hands, you must be put to death. You are a murderer. The relative who can avenge the death must kill you when he catches up with you, because you are a murderer.

22 “But suppose you accidentally kill someone who wasn’t your enemy. Maybe you shoved him or threw something at him but didn’t mean to kill him. 23 Or suppose you drop a big stone, and someone is killed. However, you didn’t know the person was there, he wasn’t your enemy, and you weren’t trying to harm him. 24 Then the community must use these rules in order to decide if you ⌞are innocent⌟ or if the dead person’s relative can avenge the death. 25 ⌞If you are innocent,⌟ the community must protect you from that relative. They must take you back to the city of refuge you fled to. You must live there until the death of the high priest who was anointed with the holy oil.

26 “But don’t go outside the city of refuge you fled to. 27 If the relative who can avenge the death finds you outside the city of refuge and kills you, the relative is not guilty of murder. 28 Accused murderers must stay in their city of refuge until the death of the high priest. They may go back to their own property only after his death.

29 “These will be the rules for future generations wherever you live.

30 “Whoever kills another person will be put to death as a murderer only on the testimony of more than one witness. No one can be put to death on the testimony of only one witness.

31 “Never accept a cash payment in exchange for the life of a convicted murderer who has been given the death penalty. Murderers must be put to death.

32 “An accused murderer who has fled to a city of refuge must never go back and live on his own land before the death of the high priest. Don’t accept a cash payment to allow him to do this.

33 “You must not pollute the land where you live. Murder is what pollutes the land. The land where a murder was committed can never make peace with the Lord except through the death of the murderer. 34 Never make the land where you and I live unclean.[c] I, the Lord, live among the Israelites.”

Luke 5:12-28

Jesus Cures a Man with a Skin Disease(A)

12 One day Jesus was in a city where there was a man covered with a serious skin disease. When the man saw Jesus, he bowed with his face to the ground. He begged Jesus, “Sir, if you want to, you can make me clean.” [a]

13 Jesus reached out, touched him, and said, “I want to. So be clean!” Immediately, his skin disease went away.

14 Jesus ordered him, “Don’t tell anyone. Instead, show yourself to the priest. Then offer the sacrifice as Moses commanded as proof to people that you are clean.”

15 The news about Jesus spread even more. Large crowds gathered to hear him and have their diseases cured. 16 But he would go away to places where he could be alone for prayer.

Jesus Forgives Sins(B)

17 One day when Jesus was teaching, some Pharisees and experts in Moses’ Teachings were present. They had come from every village in Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem. Jesus had the power of the Lord to heal.

18 Some men brought a paralyzed man on a stretcher. They tried to take him into the house and put him in front of Jesus. 19 But they could not find a way to get him into the house because of the crowd. So they went up on the roof. They made an opening in the tiles and let the man down on his stretcher among the people. (They lowered him in front of Jesus.)

20 When Jesus saw their faith, he said, “Sir, your sins are forgiven.” 21 The experts in Moses’ Teachings and the Pharisees thought, “Who is this man? He’s dishonoring God! Who besides God can forgive sins?”

22 Jesus knew what they were thinking. So he said to them, “What are you thinking? 23 Is it easier to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? 24 I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” Then he said to the paralyzed man, “Get up, pick up your stretcher, and go home.”

25 The man immediately stood up in front of them and picked up the stretcher he had been lying on. Praising God, he went home.

26 Everyone was amazed and praised God. They were filled with awe and said, “We’ve seen things today we can hardly believe!”

Jesus Chooses Levi [Matthew] to Be a Disciple(C)

27 After that, Jesus left. He saw a tax collector named Levi sitting in a tax office. Jesus said to him, “Follow me!” 28 So Levi got up, left everything, and followed him.

Psalm 65

For the choir director; a psalm by David; a song.

65 You are praised with silence in Zion, O God,
and vows ⌞made⌟ to you must be kept.
You are the one who hears prayers.
Everyone will come to you.
Various sins overwhelm me.
You are the one who forgives our rebellious acts.
Blessed is the person you choose
and invite to live with you in your courtyards.
We will be filled with good food from your house,
from your holy temple.

You answer us with awe-inspiring acts ⌞done⌟ in righteousness,
O God, our savior,
the hope of all the ends of the earth and of the most distant sea,
the one who set the mountains in place with his strength,
the one who is clothed with power,
the one who calms the roar of the seas,
their crashing waves,
and the uproar of the nations.
Those who live at the ends of the earth are in awe of your miraculous signs.
The lands of the morning sunrise and evening sunset sing joyfully.

You take care of the earth, and you water it.
You make it much richer than it was.
(The river of God is filled with water.)
You provide grain for them.
Indeed, you even prepare the ground.
10 You drench plowed fields ⌞with rain⌟
and level their clumps of soil.
You soften them with showers
and bless what grows in them.
11 You crown the year with your goodness,
and richness overflows wherever you are.
12 The pastures in the desert overflow ⌞with richness⌟.
The hills are surrounded with joy.
13 The pastures are covered with flocks.
The valleys are carpeted with grain.
All of them shout triumphantly. Indeed, they sing.

Numbers 32:1-33:39, Luke 4:31-5:11, Psalms 64:1-10, Proverbs 11:22

Today is the 21st day of March welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian it is fantastic to be here with you today as we gather around the Global Campfire and take the next step forward which leads us back into the book of Numbers, which is a book we are drawing to a close on. A couple days left and then we’ll be moving forward away from the book of Numbers. But today we are firmly in the book of Numbers, and we’ll read chapter 32 verse 1 through 33, verse 39.

Commentary:

Okay. We have a really intriguing story and the gospel of Luke. One of my favorite stories because it gives us a glance into the life of Jesus… some of Jesus disciples as they are coming to faith in Jesus. We get to witness this moment of faith where everything changes. And then we get to look at our own lives about that moment for us and examine it, examine our lives going forward. So, basically Jesus is getting a reputation by what He’s saying and doing. And word is spreading because people are being healed and set free where He goes. So, He is on the shores of the Sea of Galilee, and there are crowds following Him kind of pressing in on Him and He sees a couple of boats and He sees fishermen cleaning their nets. They had been fishing and so they’re cleaning their nets. And there’s a couple of boats. And Jesus jumps into a boat and asks to be rowed out. That right there, in and of itself is a little strange. You don’t normally just go hop into somebody else’s boat, like even in front of them just hop in the boat and sit down or you don’t jump into somebody’s car, right? You jump into somebody’s car, and they don’t know you are here, kind of waiting and seeing if they’ll drive you the other end of the city or whatever, that’s not gonna work out great. That’s gonna freak a lot of people out. But Jesus also has a growing reputation so it’s not out of bounds that they would know about this teacher traveling the little villages around the Sea of Galilee, fishing villages. And, so, they rode Jesus out, which gives Him a little bit of space between the crowds and himself since He was pressed to the shore. So, it gives Him a little space to teach and allow the water to be a natural amplification system so that everybody could hear Him. And He gets done with His message. And, so, here is God showing up for these guys. You’ve been fishing all night and caught nothing. So, Jesus is like, let’s go out into the deep water, lower your nets, catch some fish. Peter, who becomes the apostle Peter, is an experienced professional fisherman. This is what he does. This is what they do. And, so, he’s like…well…we’ve been at it all night. Like we’ve been fishing all night and we didn’t catch anything. But if You say so I’ll do it. And they do. And they take in a massive haul of fish. So much so that this boat, that Jesus has been sitting in, right, is sinking because of the hall of fish. It’s so great that they have to call…call to other people to come and help. James and John, Zebedee’s sons, who also become disciples of Jesus. They come and they help, and they get to shore, and God has shown up for them. Like this is a level of prosperity that could change some things. They have been blessed. And then we get to see this through Peter’s eyes. Peter sees this man of God that may be the son of God, may be the Messiah, understands that this is this person is good through and through, and His reputation about things that are miraculous or unexplainable is true. He’s seen it. It just happened to him. He was just blessed by God in a way that could bring a level of prosperity that could at least push the debt collectors away. And Simon’s response is the moment of faith, the moment when he realizes he doesn’t deserve anything. And I quote from the gospel of Luke. “When Simon Peter saw this, he knelt in front of Jesus and said, leaver me Lord, I’m a sinful person.” That is so beautiful and reflects our own faith journeys in one way or another. I know we stand on promises about who we are in Christ, and we accept all of that as children, sons and daughters of the most-high God and that that’s a game changer like and that’s a…that’s more than a game changer it’s an entire life changer. But oftentimes we major on this without forgetting there was this moment, where we knew we were in the presence of something so far beyond us. And when we began to realize we don’t deserve to be here, we don’t deserve anything. And for all the good we thought we were in the face of purity, in the face of absolute, unrelenting love, we realize how woefully inadequate we are in every possible way. We don’t deserve to be in God’s presence. He came for us. And Peter knew who he was and knew the presence that he was in and knew he didn’t disserve it and said, “leave me, Lord, I’m a sinful person.” And it’s here with kindness that Jesus tells him He’ll be fishing for people, not fish anymore. And then the riveting sentence at the end of our meeting today. Simon and his partners brought the boats to shore, left everything and followed Jesus, which means they left the hall of fish that could give them margin in their lives, maybe even a little taste of prosperity. The very kinds of things that we are on a repeated basis, asking God to do for us. They got it, but in the presence of God, they left it to be with Jesus, which gives us a little bit of an encapsulation of the posture of heart that happens at the moment of faith when we leave behind who we were and go all in, bet the farm, like whatever metaphor we want to use - all in, to be close to Jesus. This story should humble us, it should inspire us, but it also should give us a posture because as we will continue to learn for the rest of the year, a relationship with God isn’t a fair-weather thing, it’s an all or nothing invitation. And, so, we can certainly take time and consider what has kind of gotten cluttered and what has gotten in the way of that. Whatever that is, whatever is between us and our Lord, it may not be a bad thing but it’s not where it needs to be. Anything between us and our Lord has to either be removed or put somewhere else. But this story also reminds us of that moment when we believed, and everything changed.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for this. We thank You for the opportunity to reflect upon this. Even as we look in the Scriptures through the eyes of Peter, we can find ourselves, we can locate our hearts here. And, so, Holy Spirit, we invite You to come into these places. What has gotten cluttered? What…what has gotten between us? We want nothing between us. Maybe even better said, we need nothing between us. That is what we need. We want lots of things but what we need is to walk with You where You are going. And, so, come Holy Spirit as we reflect upon these things in the name of Jesus we ask. Amen.

Announcements:

dailyaudiobible.com is home base, it is the website, it’s where you find out what’s going on around here, which you can do in the Daily Audio Bible app as well. And the Daily Audio Bible app can be downloaded from wherever…well…whatever app store is connected to the device that you use.

And, so, certainly check that out. Daily Audio Bible app offers…well…it offers some features that we just don’t have any other way. It allows us to kind of check off the days that we’ve listened to or Star the days that maybe we want to come back and review that have been meaningful to us. It allows us to jot down notes that we don’t want to forget about things that we’re reading the Scriptures. So, check that out.

And whether using the app or the web you’ll find things like the Community section and that is a good place to be familiar with. There are different links there to the different social media channels that we participate in. So, it’s good to follow along so you can get announcements, etc. So, check that out. But it’s also the home of the Prayer Wall. And that is a beautiful resource that is of us and for us and is always available all of the time day or night no matter where we are. And, so, be familiar with that.

If you can’t sleep, maybe go to the Prayer Wall and pray for brothers and sisters and let them know that you’re praying for them in the night, or maybe can’t say because of the anxiety that’s going on inside of you and you just need to say it out loud and ask your brothers and sisters. Of course, it doesn’t have to be in the middle of the night. It can be any time of day or night. And the Prayer Wall can be found in the Community section of the web or the app. So, check it out.

If you want to partner with the Daily Audio Bible, thank you humbly. We wouldn’t be here if we weren’t here together gathering around the Global Campfire every day and taking the next step forward together. So, thank you, humbly and profoundly for your partnership. There is a link on the homepage at dailyaudiobible.com. If you’re using the app you can press the Give button in the upper right-hand corner or the mailing address is PO Box 1996 Spring Hill Tennessee 37174.

And, as always, if you have a prayer request or encouragement, you can hit the Hotline button in the app. That’s the little red button up at the top or you can dial 877-942-4253.

And that’s it for today on Brian. I love you and I’ll be waiting for you here tomorrow.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hi, I just want…my name’s Alicia…I just want to pray for the mom whose daughter is struggling with anxiety. I just want to say that I completely understand where she’s coming from. I’m currently 32 weeks pregnant and I’ve just been having intrusive anxious thoughts about dying. It just kind of hit me. And then I completely understand because, you know, it's…it’s like my mind is telling me I’m going to die and my oldest son is 3 and I have a set of twins and I’m pregnant with my fourth. So, it’s just very challenging and struggling. So, I just wanna pray for you and…and I want you to, you know, to understand is that, you know, God has all glory. And we should just always praise Him and just ask Him to help us through difficult times because we are only human, and He understands that we’re human and that we struggle from time to time. So, I just wanna say I’m just praying for you, and you know, I just I truly hope that things get better, and I just ask for your prayers as well because I just want these thoughts to leave and I…I just want to wake up and feel so much better. But I just give God all glory and all praise. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Dear prayer partners this is Anonymous. I’m calling for Grace. Her persecution stirred my soul and I hate that the bullies, prosecutors are touching the very bone marrow that is breaking her. She feels that. Well, may we all stand together in prayer for her, that the Lord light her path, that she can see the path for her to tread. Grace, we are with you. We’re praying for you. We’re lifting you up and the Lord is with you. You are not alone. We love you. We cherish you and even more so does the Lord who gave His Son for you. So, whether it be the opportunity for a new job or whatever I don’t know but the thing is is that something positive must be coming your way. We pray for you and Jesus’ name. Amen.

Hey Daily Audio Bible this is Ashley in Ohio and about three years ago at this time I had called in asking for prayer for my brother and sister-in-law David and Laura. They had just lost their son Denver about a month previous, and we were getting ready to really grieve what would have been his very first birthday. I…it’s good to…it’s good to see what God has done and it’s good to share updates and that’s what I want to do today. I wanted to share with you that my family and I, we are going to a state park this weekend to send celebrate Denver’s twin sisters. It will be their second birthday. And wouldn’t you know that Denver’s birthday is March 19th. He would have been for this year. And the twins, their birthday is March 20th and they’ll be two. But not only that, Denver also has twin brothers that showed up this past December and it is the most marvelous and magnificent display of God’s ability to bring beauty from ashes that I’ve ever seen in my entire life. So, I just want to thank you for your prayers and I want to give God the glory for what he has done. Certainly, there is no replacement for Denver and his presence here on earth is greatly missed but there is absolutely no denying that the Lord has been at work and the Lord has been kind and He’s been more than gracious to show us beauty out of ashes. So, I just want to thank the Lord for Denver’s siblings as we celebrate together this weekend, Dylan and Jade and Eli and Casey. Thank you, Lord Jesus.

Greetings everyone this is Toni from Germany, and I would like to leave a message for grace who called…you called in I think it was about a year and a half ago about experiencing, you know, being the target of bullies and you don’t know you can continue. And what comes to my mind is this, can you ask yourself and maybe ask others around you who are familiar with what’s going on what might the Lord be inviting you to do? Is there something that He may be inviting you to do in response to what’s going on? So, I would go, and I would say that it could be something that is outside of your comfort zone. And I would say too that underneath that for you to act you may need to really appreciate yourself, value yourself to understand your worthiness, maybe even doing affirmative type prayers - I am beautifully and wonderfully made, for example. So, I sign a lot of times my emails and correspondence with grace and peace. And when I do, I’m going to commit to praying for you Grace. But I believe you’ll find a solution. So, be hopeful and, yeah, just really look deep inside as to what action the Lord may be trying to get you to take. God bless you. We…

Numbers 32:1-33:39

The Tribes of Reuben and Gad Request Land East of the Jordan River

32 The tribes of Reuben and Gad had a large number of livestock. They saw that the regions of Jazer and Gilead were a good place for livestock. So they came to Moses, the priest Eleazar, and the leaders of the community, and said to them, “Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sebam, Nebo, and Beon, the land that the Lord won for the community of Israel, is a good place for livestock. Gentlemen, we have livestock. Please give us this land as our property. Don’t make us cross the Jordan River.”

Moses asked the tribes of Gad and Reuben, “Are you going to stay here while the rest of the Israelites go to war? That might discourage them from entering the land the Lord has given them. That’s what your ancestors did when I sent them from Kadesh Barnea to take a look at the land. They went as far as the Eshcol Valley and saw the land. But then they discouraged the rest of the Israelites from entering the land that the Lord had given them. 10 That day the Lord became angry and swore this oath, 11 ‘None of the people 20 years old or older, who came from Egypt, will see the land I promised Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob with an oath. This is because they didn’t wholeheartedly follow me.’ 12 Only Caleb (son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite) and Joshua (son of Nun) will get to see the land. This is because they wholeheartedly followed the Lord. 13 Since the Lord was angry with the Israelites, he made them wander in the desert for 40 years until the whole generation of those who had done evil in the Lord’s presence was gone.

14 “You’re just like your parents! You’re a bunch of sinners trying to make the Lord angry with Israel again. 15 If you turn away from him, he will abandon all these people in the desert. You would be responsible for their destruction.”

16 Then the tribes of Gad and Reuben came up to Moses and said, “Allow us to build stone fences for our livestock and cities for our families here. 17 Then we’ll be ready ⌞to march⌟ in battle formation [a] ahead of the other Israelites until we have brought them to their land. Meanwhile our families will live in walled cities, safe from the other people who live here. 18 We will not return to our homes until every Israelite has received his own land. 19 We won’t take possession of any land on the other side of the Jordan River, to the west and beyond. We already have our land here, east of the Jordan.”

20 Moses answered, “Do what you have said. In the Lord’s presence have all your armed men get ready for battle. 21 Have them cross the Jordan, and fight until the Lord forces out his enemies 22 and the land is conquered. Then you may come back. You will have fulfilled your military duty to the Lord and Israel. This land will be your own property in the Lord’s presence.

23 “If you don’t do all these things, you will be sinning against the Lord. You can be sure that you will be punished for your sin. 24 Build cities for your families and stone fences for your flocks, but do what you have promised.”

25 Then the tribes of Gad and Reuben said to Moses, “Sir, we will do as you command. 26 Our children, our wives, our livestock, and all our other animals will stay here in the cities of Gilead. 27 But in the Lord’s presence we will all get ready for battle and go with you, as you have said.”

28 So Moses gave orders about them to the priest Eleazar, Joshua (son of Nun), and the family heads of the tribes of Israel. 29 Moses told them, “If the tribes of Gad and Reuben get ready for battle in the Lord’s presence and cross the Jordan River with you and you conquer the land, give them Gilead as their own property. 30 If they don’t get ready for battle and go with you, the land they will take possession of must be in Canaan with yours.”

31 The tribes of Gad and Reuben answered, “Sir, we will do as the Lord has said. 32 We will enter Canaan as armed troops in the Lord’s presence, but the land we will take possession of is here, east of the Jordan.”

33 So Moses gave the tribes of Gad, Reuben, and half of the tribe of Manasseh, son of Joseph, the kingdoms of King Sihon of the Amorites and King Og of Bashan—the whole land with its cities and its surrounding territory.

34 The tribe of Gad rebuilt the cities of Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer, 35 Atroth Shophan, Jazer, Jogbehah, 36 Beth Nimrah, and Beth Haran as walled cities. They also built stone fences for their flocks.

37 The tribe of Reuben rebuilt the cities of Heshbon, Elealeh, Kiriathaim, 38 Nebo, Baal Meon (whose names were changed), and Sibmah. These are the names they gave the cities they rebuilt.

39 The descendants of Machir, son of Manasseh, went to Gilead, captured it, and forced out the Amorites who were there. 40 So Moses gave Gilead to the people of Machir (the descendants of Manasseh), and they lived there. 41 Then Jair, a descendant of Manasseh, captured the settlements in Gilead. He called them Havvoth Jair [Settlements of Jair]. 42 Nobah captured Kenath and its villages. He named it Nobah after himself.

A Summary of Israel’s Journeys after Leaving Egypt

33 This is a list of all the places where the Israelites set up camp after they left Egypt in organized groups under the leadership of Moses and Aaron. At the Lord’s command Moses wrote down the places where they went as they traveled. This is the list:

They moved from Rameses on the fifteenth day of the first month, the day after the Passover. The Israelites boldly left in full view of all the Egyptians. The Egyptians were burying all their firstborn sons, whom the Lord had killed in a mighty act of judgment on their gods.

The Israelites moved from Rameses and set up camp at Succoth.

They moved from Succoth and set up camp at Etham, on the edge of the desert.

They moved from Etham and turned back to Pi Hahiroth, east of Baal Zephon, and set up camp near Migdol.

They moved from Pi Hahiroth [b] and went through the middle of the sea into the desert. After they traveled for three days in the Desert of Etham, they set up camp at Marah.

They moved from Marah and came to Elim. Elim had 12 springs and 70 palm trees, so they set up camp there.

15 They moved from Rephidim and set up camp in the Desert of Sinai.

16 They moved from the Desert of Sinai and set up camp at Kibroth Hattaavah.

17 They moved from Kibroth Hattaavah and set up camp at Hazeroth.

18 They moved from Hazeroth and set up camp at Rithmah.

24 They moved from Mount Shepher and set up camp at Haradah.

25 They moved from Haradah and set up camp at Makheloth.

26 They moved from Makheloth and set up camp at Tahath.

27 They moved from Tahath and set up camp at Terah.

28 They moved from Terah and set up camp at Mithcah.

29 They moved from Mithcah and set up camp at Hashmonah.

30 They moved from Hashmonah and set up camp at Moseroth.

31 They moved from Moseroth and set up camp at Bene Jaakan.

32 They moved from Bene Jaakan and set up camp at Hor Haggidgad.

33 They moved from Hor Haggidgad and set up camp at Jotbathah.

34 They moved from Jotbathah and set up camp at Abronah.

35 They moved from Abronah and set up camp at Ezion Geber.

36 They moved from Ezion Geber and set up camp at Kadesh in the Desert of Zin.

37 They moved from Kadesh and set up camp at Mount Hor on the border of Edom. 38 At the Lord’s command the priest Aaron went up on Mount Hor. He died there on the first day of the fifth month in the fortieth year after the Israelites had left Egypt. 39 Aaron was 123 years old when he died on Mount Hor.

Luke 4:31-5:11

Jesus Forces an Evil Spirit out of a Man(A)

31 Jesus went to Capernaum, a city in Galilee, and taught them on a day of rest—a holy day. 32 The people were amazed at his teachings because he spoke with authority.

33 In the synagogue was a man possessed by a spirit, an evil demon. He shouted very loudly, 34 “Oh, no! What do you want with us, Jesus from Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”

35 Jesus ordered the spirit, “Keep quiet, and come out of him!” The demon threw the man down in the middle of the synagogue and came out without hurting him.

36 Everyone was stunned. They said to one another, “What kind of command is this? With authority and power he gives orders to evil spirits, and they come out.”

37 So news about him spread to every place throughout the surrounding region.

Jesus Cures Simon’s Mother-in-Law and Many Others(B)

38 Jesus left the synagogue and went to Simon’s house. Simon’s mother-in-law was sick with a high fever. They asked Jesus to help her. 39 He bent over her, ordered the fever to leave, and it went away. She got up immediately and prepared a meal for them.

40 When the sun was setting, everyone who had friends suffering from various diseases brought them to him. He placed his hands on each of them and cured them. 41 Demons came out of many people, shouting, “You are the Son of God!” But Jesus ordered them not to speak. After all, they knew he was the Messiah.

Spreading the Good News(C)

42 In the morning he went to a place where he could be alone. The crowds searched for him. When they came to him, they tried to keep him from leaving. 43 But he said to them, “I have to tell the Good News about God’s kingdom in other cities also. That’s what I was sent to do.”

44 So he spread his message in the synagogues of Judea.[a]

Calling of the First Disciples(D)

One day Jesus was standing by the Sea of Galilee. The people crowded around him as they listened to God’s word. Jesus saw two boats on the shore. The fishermen had stepped out of them and were washing their nets. So Jesus got into the boat that belonged to Simon and asked him to push off a little from the shore. Then Jesus sat down and taught the crowd from the boat.

When he finished speaking, he told Simon, “Take the boat into deep water, and lower your nets to catch some fish.”

Simon answered, “Teacher, we worked hard all night and caught nothing. But if you say so, I’ll lower the nets.”

After the men had done this, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to tear. So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. Their partners came and filled both boats until the boats nearly sank.

When Simon Peter saw this, he knelt in front of Jesus and said, “Leave me, Lord! I’m a sinful person!” Simon and everyone who was with him were amazed to see the large number of fish they had caught. 10 James and John, who were Zebedee’s sons and Simon’s partners, were also amazed.

Jesus told Simon, “Don’t be afraid. From now on you will catch people instead of fish.”

11 Simon and his partners brought the boats to shore, left everything, and followed Jesus.

Psalm 64

For the choir director; a psalm by David.

64 Hear my voice, O God, when I complain.
Protect my life from a terrifying enemy.
Hide me from the secret plots of criminals,
from the mob of troublemakers.
They sharpen their tongues like swords.
They aim bitter words like arrows
to shoot at innocent people from their hiding places.
They shoot at them suddenly, without any fear.
They encourage one another in their evil plans.
They talk about setting traps and say,
“Who can see them?”
They search for the perfect crime and say,
“We have perfected a foolproof scheme!”
Human nature and the human heart are a mystery!

But God will shoot them with an arrow.
Suddenly, they will be struck dead.
They will trip over their own tongues.
Everyone who sees them will shake his head.
Everyone will be afraid and conclude,
“This is an act of God!”
They will learn from what he has done.

10 Righteous people will find joy in the Lord and take refuge in him.
Everyone whose motives are decent will be able to brag.

Numbers 30:1-31:54, Luke 4:1-30, Psalm 63:1-11, Proverbs 11:20-21

Today is the 20th day of March, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian and here we are at the threshold of a brand-new, sparkly, shiny week and off we go into it, moment-by-moment, step-by-step, choice-by-choice, conversation-by-conversation, we construct the story of what this week is gonna look like. And I guess I say this most every week cause I’m reminding myself of the same thing, fresh starts are important, His mercies are new every morning, including today. So, as we begin this week, we certainly will pick up right where we left off, which leads us back into the Book of Numbers. We will conclude the Book of Numbers this week and we are hearing a number of instructions, laws, statutes, being offered and they are being offered to this emerging generation, because transition happening here. Moses has been leading the children of Israel all the way, since they left Egypt; he will not be leading them into the Promised Land, he is with them in the wilderness. His successor has been named; his name is Joshua although he has not taken hold of leadership of the children of Israel. Moses is still with them. That’s where we find ourselves. This week we’ll read from the God’s Word Translation, Numbers chapters 30 and 31.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for this brand-new week, this sparkly, shiny new week that we are moving into and we thank You for Your kindness and Your graciousness to us, Your patience with us, Your unending love for us. When we sit and push away all of the thoughts and cares of this life and just sit with the fact that You love us, that You have us, that You know us, that You are with us. It changes everything and we thank you for that. So, as we move into this new week, we invite Your Holy Spirit to speak to us, to guide us and direct us, to make our paths straight and clear, we ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Prayer and Encouragements:

Grace, you called in on March 16th, this is Susie from Colorado. I wanted to tell you I heard your message and I’m so certain that the entire family who was listening are praying for you, Grace, with your situation of bullying at work. I am praying that the people who are doing this would look at you and see you and see your heart and that you would actually have a breakthrough that they would hug you, love you. It may not happen on this side of Heaven, Grace but I just know that I heard you. I’m praying for you. I’m so sorry that this is happening. I work in Haiti and I am bullied all the time by political figures who, you know. I constantly fight for my licenses to be a missionary there or to work in and run schools and orphanages and hospitals. I struggle with bullies too but you, my dear sister, please now that we are, those who are with us, Jesus is with us and it’s so much more powerful than those bullies and something in them is broken. So, you keep praying for them, we’ll pray for them to but I’m definitely for you too Grace. God Bless.

Hello DAB. I’m calling on March 14th. I am calling in response to a listener named Gracie, she’s talking about bullies and I just want to say stand firm. Throughout the Bible there is bullies everywhere. I mean, look at David during Goliath and everything, just a bully. David had to stand firm. Jesus, with the Pharisees and everything, Jesus had to stand firm. I mean, throughout the Bible we have these examples of just bullies being bullies. And it’s our job to stand firm on the word of God and recognize that God wins these battles and He’s always victorious so, no matter what happens, remember God is the one victorious. And as long we stand firm on the word, nothing can tear us down a day. Have a good day, Gracie. I’m praying for you.

Hey DABers, it’s your girl, Val in Vegas. It’s the 16th, I’m a day late, y'all forgive me please. Oh, give me the grace thank you, thank you, family. I know you all will. You know what I noticed in life, if you don’t do things first thing in the morning, it’s 540, you know as the day goes through you kind of you forget, the days worries come on you, the obligations that we have. So, I know how we roll. We a first fruits kind of family. You know what I’ve been doing in these last couple years is, I set up a little prayer room and whoo, after I drop my friends off, I get right to it. Okay, I get on my knees and I find that it builds me up for the day, it gets me ready. And so, I got to remember to put the 15th in that repertoire after that prayer time with the Lord. Get on it, reach out to my family members, let this community know how much you guys mean to me and how much I’m praying for every single person. Whoo, y'all want to know what heavens going be like, much like this, the transparency, the honesty, the caring for one another. The lack of no condemnation, the way that we gird each other up. So, let’s do it, let’s do it. Let’s continue to be those people and please lets continue to give to this organization, to this ministry, to this family, to this thing that God has blessed us with. I love you all and I’ll see you on the 15th. I need you to go with the love of the Lord, the love of the Lord and I want you to spread it, spread it, spread it, take it near and far. The Lord’s has made us fishers of men, let’s go get’em. In the name of Jesus. Val from Vegas signing out. Love you.

Hey, this goes out to Grace, this is Micah in Awe. I believe I remember your prayer, asking for help with the bullies. And I’m so sorry to hear that this is still going on. Just know that you have one brother at least out here, well you have many, many people praying for you and I believe that you’ll get a big outcry of prayer, even in the recordings. It was really hard not to hear your heart and how much you’re suffering and Lord, I just ask now, Lord, please in Jesus name, heal the situation Lord. Take the people away that need to be removed and let this lady have some peace and joy in her life. Lord, she loves you. She’s asking for prayer. Lord be the lion and remove anything that stands in the way of her peace and joy, Lord. Help her to be comfortable at work. Help her to be able to do her job without any distraction. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Hello, this is Joyfully Jo and I’m calling to pray for Grace whose prayer request was at the end of the March 6th reading from the Daily Audio Bible. Lord God, I just lift up Grace to You, Father. Father, I pray against these bullies Lord God, I pray that You would intervene, Lord God, on behalf of Grace, Lord, that Lord, You would surround her with Your angels Lord God, that You would bring their bullying to nothing, Lord God, that You would change the situation, Father, that Your mighty hand would reach out to rescue her. Father, I know You love her. I know You care for her Father. I know that You do not want her to be bullied Lord God. I know You use these things in our life God to grow us Lord God, but she is so just in despair, Lord God. She’s so despondent right now Father. I pray that You bring people in her life that will lift her up and encourage her Father. Lord God, and I pray that you bind the enemy’s work through these people, Lord God, I pray for their salvation and I pray that You just bring an end to this bullying, Father. It breaks my heart to hear her cries, Lord God. But You are God and You are sovereign, You are able Lord God, to change this in her life, Lord. In Jesus name. Amen.

Numbers 30-31

Teachings about Vows

30 [a]Moses said to the heads of the tribes of Israel, “This is what the Lord has commanded ⌞about vows⌟: If a man makes a vow to the Lord that he will do something or swears an oath that he won’t do something, he must not break his word. He must do everything he said he would do.

“A young girl, who still lives in her father’s house, might make a vow to the Lord that she will do something or swear an oath that she won’t do something. If her father says nothing to her when he hears about it, her vow or oath must be kept. But if her father objects when he hears about it, her vow or oath doesn’t have to be kept. The Lord will free her ⌞from this vow or oath⌟ because her father objected.

“An unmarried woman might make a vow that she will do something or carelessly promise that she won’t do something. When she marries, her husband may hear about it but say nothing to her. Then her vow or oath must be kept. But if her husband objects when he hears about it, he can cancel the vow or promise she made. The Lord will free her ⌞from this vow or promise⌟.

“But a widow or a divorced woman must keep her vow or her promise.

10 “A married woman might make a vow that she will do something or swear an oath that she won’t do something. 11 Her husband may hear about it but may say nothing and not object. Then her vow or oath must be kept. 12 But if her husband cancels it when he hears about it, nothing she said in her vow or oath has to be kept. Her husband has canceled it, and the Lord will free her ⌞from this vow or oath⌟.

13 “A husband decides whether or not his wife has to keep any vow to do something or any oath to do without something. 14 If he says nothing to her about it day after day, this means he’s decided that she must keep her vow or oath. She must keep it because he said nothing to her when he heard about it. 15 But if he cancels it later, he will suffer the consequences.”

16 These are the laws the Lord gave Moses for husbands and wives, and for fathers with young daughters still living at home.

The Lord Commands Israel to Defeat Midian

31 The Lord said to Moses, “Get even with the Midianites for what they did to the Israelites. After that you will join your ancestors ⌞in death⌟.”

Moses said to the people, “Some of your men must get ready to go to war against the Midianites. The Lord will use them to get even with Midian. Send 1,000 men from each of the tribes of Israel.”

So 1,000 men from each tribe were supplied from the divisions of Israel—12,000 men ready for war. Then Moses sent them off to war, 1,000 men from each tribe along with Phinehas, son of the priest Eleazar. Phinehas took with him the holy articles and the trumpets for the fanfare.

They went to war against Midian, as the Lord commanded Moses, and killed every man. Among those killed were the five kings of Midian—Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba. They also killed Balaam, son of Beor, in battle. The Israelites took the Midianite women and children as prisoners of war. They also took all their animals, their livestock, and their valuables as loot. 10 They burned all the cities where the Midianites lived and all their settlements. 11 Then they took everything as loot, including all the people and animals, 12 and brought the prisoners of war, the loot, and everything to Moses, the priest Eleazar, and the community of Israel at the camp on the plains of Moab near the Jordan River across from Jericho.

13 Moses, the priest Eleazar, and all the leaders of the community went outside the camp to meet them. 14 Moses was angry with the officers of the army, the commanders of the companies and battalions, who were returning from battle.

15 “Why did you let all the women live?” he asked them. 16 “Remember, they were the ones who followed Balaam’s advice and caused the Israelites to be unfaithful to the Lord in the incident that took place at Peor. The Lord’s community experienced a plague at that time. 17 So kill all the Midianite boys and every Midianite woman who has gone to bed with a man. 18 But save for yourselves every girl who has never gone to bed with a man.

19 “Everyone who killed a person or touched a dead body must stay outside the camp seven days. You and your prisoners of war must use the ritual water on the third and seventh days in order to take away your sin. 20 Do the same for all the clothes and everything made of leather, goats’ hair, or wood.”

21 Then the priest Eleazar said to the soldiers who had gone into battle, “This is what the Lord’s teachings told Moses to do: 22 Any gold, silver, bronze, iron, tin, or lead— 23 anything that won’t burn—must be put through fire in order to make it clean.[b] Then it must also be put through the ritual water in order to take away its sin. Whatever might burn must ⌞only⌟ be put through the ritual water. 24 On the seventh day wash your clothes, and you will be clean. Then you may come into the camp.”

25 The Lord said to Moses, 26 “You, the priest Eleazar, and the heads of the families of the community need to count all the loot, including the people and animals you captured. 27 Divide the loot between the soldiers who served in the war and the rest of the community. 28 Collect a tax for the Lord. From the soldiers who served in the war collect one out of every 500 things. This includes people, cattle, donkeys, sheep, and goats. 29 Collect all these things from the soldiers’ half of the loot, and give them to the priest Eleazar as a contribution to the Lord. 30 From the Israelites’ half of the loot, collect one out of every 50 things. This includes people, cattle, donkeys, sheep, goats, and every other kind of animal. Give them to the Levites who are in charge of the work done at the Lord’s tent.” 31 Moses and the priest Eleazar did as the Lord commanded Moses.

32 This is the loot that was left from everything that the troops took: 675,000 sheep and goats, 33 72,000 cattle, 34 61,000 donkeys, and 35 32,000 women who had never gone to bed with a man.

36 Half of it went to the soldiers who served in the war. Of the 337,500 sheep and goats they received, 37 675 went to the Lord as taxes. 38 Of the 36,000 cattle they received, 72 went to the Lord as taxes. 39 Of the 30,500 donkeys they received, 61 went to the Lord as taxes. 40 Of the 16,000 people they received, 32 went to the Lord as taxes.

41 Moses gave the Lord’s taxes to the priest Eleazar, as the Lord had commanded him.

42 Moses took the Israelites’ half of the loot from the soldiers. 43 The community received 337,500 sheep and goats, 44 36,000 cattle, 45 30,500 donkeys, 46 and 16,000 people.

47 From the Israelites’ half Moses collected one out of every 50 things, including people and animals, as the Lord commanded him. Then he gave all this to the Levites who were in charge of the work done at the Lord’s tent.

48 Then the officers from the military divisions, the commanders of the companies and battalions of men, came to Moses. 49 They said to him, “Sir, we have counted all the soldiers under our command, and not one of them is missing. 50 So we have brought as gifts to the Lord the gold jewelry that each of us found—arm bands, bracelets, signet rings, earrings, and pendants. We offer them to make peace with the Lord.”

51 Moses and the priest Eleazar took all the hand-crafted gold articles from them. 52 All the gold contributed to the Lord by the commanders weighed about 420 pounds. 53 Each soldier kept his own loot. 54 Moses and the priest Eleazar took the gold from the commanders and brought it into the Lord’s presence at the tent of meeting as a reminder to the Israelites.

Luke 4:1-30

The Devil Tempts Jesus(A)

Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit as he left the Jordan River. The Spirit led him while he was in the desert, where he was tempted by the devil for 40 days. During those days Jesus ate nothing, so when they were over, he was hungry.

The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become a loaf of bread.”

Jesus answered him, “Scripture says, ‘A person cannot live on bread alone.’ ” [a]

The devil took him to a high place and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in an instant. The devil said to him, “I will give you all the power and glory of these kingdoms. All of it has been given to me, and I give it to anyone I please. So if you will worship me, all this will be yours.”

Jesus answered him, “Scripture says, ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’ ”

Then the devil took him into Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest part of the temple. He said to Jesus, “If you are the Son of God, jump from here! 10 Scripture says, ‘He will put his angels in charge of you to watch over you carefully. 11 They will carry you in their hands so that you never hit your foot against a rock.’ ”

12 Jesus answered him, “It has been said, ‘Never tempt the Lord your God.’ ” [b]

13 After the devil had finished tempting Jesus in every possible way, the devil left him until another time.

Nazareth Rejects Jesus(B)

14 Jesus returned to Galilee. The power of the Spirit was with him, and the news about him spread throughout the surrounding country. 15 He taught in the synagogues, and everyone praised him.

16 Then Jesus came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. As usual he went into the synagogue on the day of rest—a holy day. He stood up to read the lesson. 17 The attendant gave him the book of the prophet Isaiah. He opened it and found the place where it read:

18 “The Spirit of the Lord is with me.
He has anointed me
to tell the Good News to the poor.
He has sent me [c]
to announce forgiveness to the prisoners of sin
and the restoring of sight to the blind,
to forgive those who have been shattered by sin,
19 to announce the year of the Lord’s favor.”

20 Jesus closed the book, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. Everyone in the synagogue watched him closely. 21 Then he said to them, “This passage came true today when you heard me read it.”

22 All the people spoke well of him. They were amazed to hear the gracious words flowing from his lips. They said, “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?”

23 So he said to them, “You’ll probably quote this proverb to me, ‘Doctor, cure yourself!’ and then say to me, ‘Do all the things in your hometown that we’ve heard you’ve done in Capernaum.’ ” 24 Then Jesus added, “I can guarantee this truth: A prophet isn’t accepted in his hometown.

25 “I can guarantee this truth: There were many widows in Israel in Elijah’s time. It had not rained for three-and-a-half years, and the famine was severe everywhere in the country. 26 But God didn’t send Elijah to anyone except a widow at Zarephath in the territory of Sidon. 27 There were also many people with skin diseases in Israel in the prophet Elisha’s time. But God cured no one except Naaman from Syria.”

28 Everyone in the synagogue became furious when they heard this. 29 Their city was built on a hill with a cliff. So they got up, forced Jesus out of the city, and led him to the cliff. They intended to throw him off of it. 30 But Jesus walked right by them and went away.

Footnotes:

  1. 4:4 Some manuscripts and translations add “but on every word of God.”
  2. 4:12 Or “Never put the Lord your God to any test.”
  3. 4:18 Some manuscripts and translations add “to heal those who are brokenhearted.”

Psalm 63

A psalm by David when he was in the wilderness of Judah.

63 O God, you are my God.
At dawn I search for you.
My soul thirsts for you.
My body longs for you
in a dry, parched land where there is no water.
So I look for you in the holy place
to see your power and your glory.
My lips will praise you
because your mercy is better than life ⌞itself⌟.
So I will thank you as long as I live.
I will lift up my hands ⌞to pray⌟ in your name.
You satisfy my soul with the richest foods.
My mouth will sing ⌞your⌟ praise with joyful lips.
As I lie on my bed, I remember you.
Through the long hours of the night, I think about you.
You have been my help.
In the shadow of your wings, I sing joyfully.
My soul clings to you.
Your right hand supports me.

But those who try to destroy my life
will go into the depths of the earth.
10 They will be cut down by swords.
Their dead bodies will be left as food for jackals.
11 But the king will find joy in God.
Everyone who takes an oath by God will brag,
but the mouths of liars will be shut.

Proverbs 11:20-21

20 Devious people are disgusting to the Lord,
but he is delighted with those whose ways are innocent.
21 Certainly, an evil person will not go unpunished,
but the descendants of righteous people will escape.

Numbers 28:16-29:40, Luke 3:23-38, Psalms 62:1-12, Proverbs 11:18-19

Today is the 19th day of March welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian it is great to be here with you as we bring another of our weeks to a conclusion. We have been spending our time in the Old Testament in the book of Numbers and there’s been a lot more to think about than Numbers although we have definitely moved through numbering people and their tribes and their capabilities and where they will camp and how they will march, but there’s been plenty for us to consider and we are continuing our journey through the book of Numbers. Today, chapter 28 verse 16 through 29, verse 40.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word. We thank You for another week. We thank You for another week together. We thank You for each other. We thank You for this journey that we’re on that leads us into the Scriptures and through the Scriptures together. What an amazing thing You have done to allow us, of all people that have ever been, to allow us to be here on this planet at this time with this technology to create a Global Campfire to spend time together in each other’s lives as we move through the Scriptures and are informed by the Scriptures in all of our relationships. Thank You. We worship You and we offer a heart of gratitude in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hey Daily Audio Bible this is a Penny Saved from Missouri. I just listened to today which is March 15th recording and heard the wonderful call ins. So, first of all, Halo, good for you for setting boundaries. I wish I would have at your age. So, I’m very proud of you. Nothing matters more than your relationship with Jesus. And of course, we always just operate in love towards those we have to sever relationships with. But putting God first is always the best thing to do. And Vastia thank you for your call in. And I was praising God right along with you for managing and delivering me from anxiety. And, yes, thank you Jesus for taking care of our mental health. I can recall very clearly the struggle I had with binge drinking and an eating disorder and other ways I was in bondage. And for 16 years as I will say again, I still listen to Daily Audio Bible whether I felt loved by God or whether I loved my own self, which I didn’t. I hated myself. And I continued to listen to the word. Even at points I’m sure where I was drunk, I listened anyway. And God has delivered me. The word was always there for me and with me. There were days I didn’t have friends and I didn’t have family, but the word of God was consistent every single day. So, no matter what, whether you feel like it or not keep the word in your life and operate in grace towards others and towards yourself. I love you all.

Hi this is Pamela Refined by the Fire from Pennsylvania and today is a glorious day. I have to admit I never really thought I would ever see this day, but God is transforming my husband right in front of my eyes and this is amazing because I have shared with you before, people that I have gone to, professionals I’ve gone to, for help in dealing with my husband have given me names to describe his behavior…and pathological liar, narcissist, batterer, psychopath, and predator. And I am just seeing all of that be wiped away in the name of Jesus right in front of my eyes and I am in awe of what God is doing and I just…I just don’t have words to say how amazed I am and how faithful the Lord is. So, those of you who struggle with marriages, be faithful to the Lord and wait on Him. He’s taught me a lot of patience. He’s taught me a lot of things during the time that I’ve been waiting. And I’m just over the moon. I just can’t believe this day. I’ll never forget this day. Thank you, Lord. Thank you so much and thank you all for your prayers. May the Lord get the glory for everything.

Hey DAB family good afternoon this is Blessings Flow in Pennsylvania, and I had a testimony praise report. On Sunday March 13th I was riding with my husband and kids heading home from church and Impromptu we decided to go out to eat when we were almost home. So, our spirits were high and then my husband made a passing comment to which I disagreed. And he’s like, you know I wasn’t asking for an opinion, I was just sharing with you. And I thought, well, you know kind of failing I guess smug, like wanting to prove my point. And, you know, it was very brief, but it did get a little tense in the car. So, I turned on the DAB. And right when I turned on the DAB and Brian was reading about that purification laws the Lord just brought back a proverb to my mind. And at the time I thought, ah proverbs, but it was to stop quarrelling before it starts because it’s like releasing water from a dam and just to end the contention. Right after being convicted by that proverb then Brian read about the children of Israel in Meribah how they were quarreling and contending against God and against Moses. And I’m just so thankful for the word because not only do we have the word read fresh to us every day, but the word reads us as well and God knows how to bring it back to our remembrance or speak to us on the days that we need it and it really just calmly and humbled me and that moment. So, just so thankful to be on this journey through the word together with you guys and God bless everyone. I hope that encourages someone. Many blessings.

Hello DAB family this is Bubba D from Tennessee and ME. Today is the 15th of March and praying for Hannah. She was on the prayer section of the DAB podcast. Praying for her son today. Let’s do this community. Father God thank You for Hannah and her 21-year-old. And the fact that she’s praying in fear is not strange Lord. I pray that You would encourage her and allow her to feel and sense that her prayers are the most important prayers. Even though there’s a tiny speck of faith in them You are moving in response to a mother’s heart, and I know she’s praying with sincerity, with passion and that’s what counts Lord before You. Lord, we support our sister Hannah in prayer this morning, this afternoon, whatever time of day it is, and we say Lord increase her faith and we are standing in faith together with her for her son. In Jesus’ name Lord, break off the ungodly ties in Jesus’ name all the demonic influences, all the __ ties and codependences, anything that’s affected Hanna’s son in Jesus’ name we break it off through the Spirit. And Holy Spirit, would You invade Hannah’s son’s reality and bless him, envelop him with Your love, acceptance, and everything that he needs right now. Thank You, Lord God for giving us Your Spirit who dwells with us every day. Thank You, Lord for moving in response to this community’s prayer. In Jesus’ name. Amen. God bless everyone.

Hi, my Daily Audio Bible family this is Cheryl. Kingdom Seeker Daniel calls me his Fresno Angel. I’m the one that has been visiting on a weekly basis with D2 his son who is currently incarcerated in Fresno CA. I’m just asking that the family continue to pray for this young man as we continue to navigate and wait on the court process. He has a hearing this Friday. It’s been delay after delay and I just would ask that you would continue to pray for him, that the Lord is doing a work in his life as he is waiting in that place and that the Lord can use me in any way that He can to minister to him as I visit him on a weekly basis. Thank you and I love you all.

Psalm 62

My Soul Waits for God Alone

To the choirmaster: according to (A)Jeduthun. A Psalm of David.

62 For God alone (B)my soul (C)waits in silence;
from him comes my salvation.
(D)He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my (E)fortress; (F)I shall not be greatly shaken.

How long will all of you attack a man
to batter him,
like (G)a leaning wall, a tottering fence?
They only plan to thrust him down from his (H)high position.
They take pleasure in falsehood.
(I)They bless with their mouths,
but inwardly they curse. Selah

For God alone, O (J)my soul, wait in silence,
for my hope is from him.
(K)He only is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be shaken.
On God rests my (L)salvation and my glory;
my mighty rock, (M)my refuge is God.

(N)Trust in him at all times, O people;
(O)pour out your heart before him;
God is (P)a refuge for us. Selah

(Q)Those of low estate are but a breath;
those of high estate (R)are a delusion;
in the balances they go up;
(S)they are together lighter than a breath.
10 Put no trust in extortion;
(T)set no vain hopes on robbery;
(U)if riches increase, set not your heart on them.

11 (V)Once God has spoken;
(W)twice have I heard this:
that (X)power belongs to God,
12 and that to you, O Lord, (Y)belongs steadfast love.
For you will (Z)render to a man
according to his work.

Proverbs 11:18-19

18 The wicked earns deceptive wages,
but one who (A)sows righteousness gets a sure reward.

but (C)he who pursues evil will die.
