Exodus 37-38

The Ark(A)

37 Bezalel(B) made the ark(C) of acacia wood—two and a half cubits long, a cubit and a half wide, and a cubit and a half high.[a] He overlaid it with pure gold,(D) both inside and out, and made a gold molding around it. He cast four gold rings for it and fastened them to its four feet, with two rings on one side and two rings on the other. Then he made poles of acacia wood and overlaid them with gold. And he inserted the poles into the rings on the sides of the ark to carry it.

He made the atonement cover(E) of pure gold—two and a half cubits long and a cubit and a half wide. Then he made two cherubim(F) out of hammered gold at the ends of the cover. He made one cherub on one end and the second cherub on the other; at the two ends he made them of one piece with the cover. The cherubim had their wings spread upward, overshadowing(G) the cover with them. The cherubim faced each other, looking toward the cover.(H)

The Table(I)

10 They[b] made the table(J) of acacia wood—two cubits long, a cubit wide and a cubit and a half high.[c] 11 Then they overlaid it with pure gold(K) and made a gold molding around it. 12 They also made around it a rim a handbreadth[d] wide and put a gold molding on the rim. 13 They cast four gold rings for the table and fastened them to the four corners, where the four legs were. 14 The rings(L) were put close to the rim to hold the poles used in carrying the table. 15 The poles for carrying the table were made of acacia wood and were overlaid with gold. 16 And they made from pure gold the articles for the table—its plates and dishes and bowls and its pitchers for the pouring out of drink offerings.

The Lampstand(M)

17 They made the lampstand(N) of pure gold. They hammered out its base and shaft, and made its flowerlike cups, buds and blossoms of one piece with them. 18 Six branches extended from the sides of the lampstand—three on one side and three on the other. 19 Three cups shaped like almond flowers with buds and blossoms were on one branch, three on the next branch and the same for all six branches extending from the lampstand. 20 And on the lampstand were four cups shaped like almond flowers with buds and blossoms. 21 One bud was under the first pair of branches extending from the lampstand, a second bud under the second pair, and a third bud under the third pair—six branches in all. 22 The buds and the branches were all of one piece with the lampstand, hammered out of pure gold.(O)

23 They made its seven lamps,(P) as well as its wick trimmers and trays, of pure gold. 24 They made the lampstand and all its accessories from one talent[e] of pure gold.

The Altar of Incense(Q)

25 They made the altar of incense(R) out of acacia wood. It was square, a cubit long and a cubit wide and two cubits high[f]—its horns(S) of one piece with it. 26 They overlaid the top and all the sides and the horns with pure gold, and made a gold molding around it. 27 They made two gold rings(T) below the molding—two on each of the opposite sides—to hold the poles used to carry it. 28 They made the poles of acacia wood and overlaid them with gold.(U)

29 They also made the sacred anointing oil(V) and the pure, fragrant incense(W)—the work of a perfumer.

The Altar of Burnt Offering(X)

38 They[g] built the altar of burnt offering of acacia wood, three cubits[h] high; it was square, five cubits long and five cubits wide.[i] They made a horn at each of the four corners, so that the horns and the altar were of one piece, and they overlaid the altar with bronze.(Y) They made all its utensils(Z) of bronze—its pots, shovels, sprinkling bowls, meat forks and firepans. They made a grating for the altar, a bronze network, to be under its ledge, halfway up the altar. They cast bronze rings to hold the poles for the four corners of the bronze grating. They made the poles of acacia wood and overlaid them with bronze. They inserted the poles into the rings so they would be on the sides of the altar for carrying it. They made it hollow, out of boards.

The Basin for Washing

They made the bronze basin(AA) and its bronze stand from the mirrors of the women(AB) who served at the entrance to the tent of meeting.

The Courtyard(AC)

Next they made the courtyard. The south side was a hundred cubits[j] long and had curtains of finely twisted linen, 10 with twenty posts and twenty bronze bases, and with silver hooks and bands on the posts. 11 The north side was also a hundred cubits long and had twenty posts and twenty bronze bases, with silver hooks and bands on the posts.

12 The west end was fifty cubits[k] wide and had curtains, with ten posts and ten bases, with silver hooks and bands on the posts. 13 The east end, toward the sunrise, was also fifty cubits wide. 14 Curtains fifteen cubits[l] long were on one side of the entrance, with three posts and three bases, 15 and curtains fifteen cubits long were on the other side of the entrance to the courtyard, with three posts and three bases. 16 All the curtains around the courtyard were of finely twisted linen. 17 The bases for the posts were bronze. The hooks and bands on the posts were silver, and their tops were overlaid with silver; so all the posts of the courtyard had silver bands.

18 The curtain for the entrance to the courtyard was made of blue, purple and scarlet yarn and finely twisted linen—the work of an embroiderer. It was twenty cubits[m] long and, like the curtains of the courtyard, five cubits[n] high, 19 with four posts and four bronze bases. Their hooks and bands were silver, and their tops were overlaid with silver. 20 All the tent pegs(AD) of the tabernacle and of the surrounding courtyard were bronze.

The Materials Used

21 These are the amounts of the materials used for the tabernacle, the tabernacle of the covenant law,(AE) which were recorded at Moses’ command by the Levites under the direction of Ithamar(AF) son of Aaron, the priest. 22 (Bezalel(AG) son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, made everything the Lord commanded Moses; 23 with him was Oholiab(AH) son of Ahisamak, of the tribe of Dan—an engraver and designer, and an embroiderer in blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen.) 24 The total amount of the gold from the wave offering used for all the work on the sanctuary(AI) was 29 talents and 730 shekels,[o] according to the sanctuary shekel.(AJ)

25 The silver obtained from those of the community who were counted in the census(AK) was 100 talents[p] and 1,775 shekels,[q] according to the sanctuary shekel— 26 one beka per person,(AL) that is, half a shekel,[r] according to the sanctuary shekel,(AM) from everyone who had crossed over to those counted, twenty years old or more,(AN) a total of 603,550 men.(AO) 27 The 100 talents of silver were used to cast the bases(AP) for the sanctuary and for the curtain—100 bases from the 100 talents, one talent for each base. 28 They used the 1,775 shekels to make the hooks for the posts, to overlay the tops of the posts, and to make their bands.

29 The bronze from the wave offering was 70 talents and 2,400 shekels.[s] 30 They used it to make the bases for the entrance to the tent of meeting, the bronze altar with its bronze grating and all its utensils, 31 the bases for the surrounding courtyard and those for its entrance and all the tent pegs for the tabernacle and those for the surrounding courtyard.

Matthew 28

Jesus Has Risen(A)

28 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene(B) and the other Mary(C) went to look at the tomb.

There was a violent earthquake,(D) for an angel(E) of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone(F) and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow.(G) The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.

The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid,(H) for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.(I) Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee.(J) There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”

So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them.(K) “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers(L) to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”

The Guards’ Report

11 While the women were on their way, some of the guards(M) went into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened. 12 When the chief priests had met with the elders and devised a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money, 13 telling them, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came during the night and stole him away(N) while we were asleep.’ 14 If this report gets to the governor,(O) we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” 15 So the soldiers took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story has been widely circulated among the Jews to this very day.

The Great Commission

16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go.(P) 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.(Q) 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations,(R) baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,(S) 20 and teaching(T) them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you(U) always, to the very end of the age.”(V)

and desires to see many good days,
13 keep your tongue(E) from evil

Exodus 35:10-36:38, Matthew 27:32-66, Psalm 34:1-10, Proverbs 9:7-8

Today is the 13th day of February, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian and it is wonderful to be here with you today at this threshold of a brand-new week that is all out there in front of us, and no matter what is gone behind us and that is not happening that has passed and what is out in front of us is the future. What is happening is now and as we walk into this brand-new week and continue to learn and live into what we’re learning from the Scriptures we will be learning wisdom as well as how to be here and will be able to slow down and make the next right decision, making what is in the future bright. And so, let’s choose wisely our thoughts, words and deeds this week and our first step forward will be to take the next step forward in the Scriptures. We’ll read from the New International Version this week, Exodus chapter 35 verse 10 through 36 verse 38.

Commentary:

Okay so, in the gospel of Matthew today, we have reached this point that Jesus has been crucified, and the way we leave today’s reading He’s dead and there’s this terrible sense of loss from those who were following him and there is this tremendous sense of urgency to cover the tracks as quickly as possible. They don’t want anybody stealing Jesus body and creating a rumor that would be worse than the first and there’s just all of this going on, centered around the idea that God has come to His people and has allowed those people, his own creation to kill him. And of course, as the story goes of our faith, we understand that He won’t stay dead, but I have also found that we fast forward to that point where He’s not dead anymore really quickly. When this is the point at which we realize, if we’ll stay here for a moment, what it cost, which is a transformational moment when we are face-to-face with the fact that there is no way for us to get ourselves to God in our own righteousness, by our own good deeds, there’s none of us that are just so good, so good that He can’t deny us. The Bible tells us accurately, all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. And what we’re seeing with Jesus body hanging from a cross and then permission given to take his body and His burial, is a love that we don’t really have a cata-, I mean, this is an unconditional love that cannot be ended by death. And so, as we take this first step forward into this brand-new week, this is what we’re greeted with and this is where we’re left to meditate today, that Jesus died, He died. It was very confusing, it was all kinds of drama around it but He walked right into this, on purpose, for us.

Prayer:

And so, Jesus, gratitude words of gratitude words of worship humble, attitudes and hearts and postures, even falling to our knees, even falling to our faces, these are all appropriate responses when we come face-to-face with the fact that we were absolutely doomed and You absolutely rescued us. But our words of gratefulness and worship, they’re not enough. There’s nothing that we can do that would be enough, there isn’t some sort of act we can do that will make it all right and so we’re exempt from needing Your mercy and grace, we’ve just finally gotten there. We fall short all the time, we fall short. And yet, through what we’re seeing here this sacrifice, a bridge has been made, a pathway has been secured, we can come into Your presence boldly as children, knowing that You have mercy, knowing that You forgive, knowing that You are Fathering us, that You are maturing us, that we are growing and that our lives must represent You in this world. And so, we sit with that today. What does that look like in our story? Come, Holy Spirit into this we pray in the name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.

Prayer and Encouragements:

Hi, DAB family, this is the Farmers Wife from snowy upstate New York. I wanted just to say thank you. I have been in awe in the love and support that I hear from my family regarding myself and the farmer and our new child. I am ten weeks exactly today. So, the little munchkin is growing. I had a doctor’s appointment and so far, everything looks good. I got to see the little heart beating which was just so beautiful. And the prayers that you all have been praying have just really transformed my heart. I’m looking for God now in everything and I’m starting to see Him and it’s beautiful. So, thank you for that. So, stay strong and faithful and love you all.

Hi DAB, I’m Bell from Colorado. And I’d like to have your prayers please. I’m struggling to stay focused on God especially with college and all the homework and just my racing thoughts. There have been days when I’ve been unable to finish the DAB reading because I have to get all my homework done. Would you please pray that I would be able to seek God and even with all of my responsibilities? Thanks. And I love hearing all of your requests too. And thank you Brian for this super cool app. Bye.

Hi DAB family, this is Tammy from the Adirondacks. I just got done listening to the February 9th podcast and Ivy, you called in talking about Brian’s commentary on just taking things little-by-little. You lost your husband and sister I’m just lifting you up to the Lord right now. Grief is a, it’s a process that takes us down so many different roads. But each of those roads you’re not alone, the Lord is with us. And it’s okay that it’s been two years and your husband’s stuff is still where it is. I lost my mom in 2019 and my dad still has her stuff sitting on her side of the bathroom sink. It’s a process and there’s no timeline, there’s no, when you should or how you should, you do things in your time, what makes it feel good to you. What, I don’t know if it’ a good thing but, what works for you. But know during the whole process that you are loved. I lift you up in prayer and I ask Jesus to just lift you and fill you with His peace that passes all understanding. To fill you with His joy. And just know that you’re not alone. We all face so many different things and we’re blessed to have each other. But we’re blessed to have a might God that carries us through these storms, these trials that we go through. Be blessed and be encouraged sister. God bless you.

Hello family, this is Beloved Child in Takoma, Washington. And I’m requesting prayer for mother, my stepfather and I. There’s a lot going on right now. My mother has very advanced stages of Alzheimer’s but she has done a lot of very hurtful things my whole life and I have been doing things for her for the last 15 to 20 years and now she’s turned on me and thinks I’m being mean to her. Which I most certainly am not. But my stepfather is not a good caretaker and he does not want to put her in a home because he doesn’t want to pay for it. I’m stuck family, I don’t know what to do. There’s not, I just don’t know what to do. Please pray for me and my mom and stepfather. Thank you.

The Daily Audio Bible Reading for Sunday February 13, 2022 (NIV)

Exodus 35:10-36:38

10 “All who are skilled among you are to come and make everything the Lord has commanded:(A) 11 the tabernacle(B) with its tent and its covering, clasps, frames, crossbars, posts and bases; 12 the ark(C) with its poles and the atonement cover and the curtain(D) that shields it; 13 the table(E) with its poles and all its articles and the bread of the Presence; 14 the lampstand(F) that is for light with its accessories, lamps and oil for the light; 15 the altar(G) of incense with its poles, the anointing oil(H) and the fragrant incense;(I) the curtain for the doorway at the entrance to the tabernacle;(J) 16 the altar(K) of burnt offering with its bronze grating, its poles and all its utensils; the bronze basin(L) with its stand; 17 the curtains of the courtyard with its posts and bases, and the curtain for the entrance to the courtyard;(M) 18 the tent pegs(N) for the tabernacle and for the courtyard, and their ropes; 19 the woven garments worn for ministering in the sanctuary—both the sacred garments(O) for Aaron the priest and the garments for his sons when they serve as priests.”

20 Then the whole Israelite community withdrew from Moses’ presence, 21 and everyone who was willing and whose heart moved them came and brought an offering to the Lord for the work on the tent of meeting, for all its service, and for the sacred garments. 22 All who were willing, men and women alike, came and brought gold jewelry of all kinds: brooches, earrings, rings and ornaments. They all presented their gold as a wave offering to the Lord. 23 Everyone who had blue, purple or scarlet yarn(P) or fine linen, or goat hair, ram skins dyed red or the other durable leather brought them. 24 Those presenting an offering of silver or bronze brought it as an offering to the Lord, and everyone who had acacia wood for any part of the work brought it. 25 Every skilled woman(Q) spun with her hands and brought what she had spun—blue, purple or scarlet yarn or fine linen. 26 And all the women who were willing and had the skill spun the goat hair. 27 The leaders(R) brought onyx stones and other gems(S) to be mounted on the ephod and breastpiece. 28 They also brought spices and olive oil for the light and for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense.(T) 29 All the Israelite men and women who were willing(U) brought to the Lord freewill offerings(V) for all the work the Lord through Moses had commanded them to do.

Bezalel and Oholiab(W)

30 Then Moses said to the Israelites, “See, the Lord has chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, 31 and he has filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills(X) 32 to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, 33 to cut and set stones, to work in wood and to engage in all kinds of artistic crafts. 34 And he has given both him and Oholiab(Y) son of Ahisamak, of the tribe of Dan, the ability to teach(Z) others. 35 He has filled them with skill to do all kinds of work(AA) as engravers, designers, embroiderers in blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen, and weavers—all of them skilled workers and designers. 36 So Bezalel, Oholiab and every skilled person(AB) to whom the Lord has given skill and ability to know how to carry out all the work of constructing the sanctuary(AC) are to do the work just as the Lord has commanded.”

Then Moses summoned Bezalel(AD) and Oholiab(AE) and every skilled person to whom the Lord had given ability and who was willing(AF) to come and do the work. They received from Moses all the offerings(AG) the Israelites had brought to carry out the work of constructing the sanctuary. And the people continued to bring freewill offerings morning after morning. So all the skilled workers who were doing all the work on the sanctuary left what they were doing and said to Moses, “The people are bringing more than enough(AH) for doing the work the Lord commanded to be done.”

Then Moses gave an order and they sent this word throughout the camp: “No man or woman is to make anything else as an offering for the sanctuary.” And so the people were restrained from bringing more, because what they already had was more(AI) than enough to do all the work.

The Tabernacle(AJ)

All those who were skilled among the workers made the tabernacle with ten curtains of finely twisted linen and blue, purple and scarlet yarn, with cherubim woven into them by expert hands. All the curtains were the same size—twenty-eight cubits long and four cubits wide.[a] 10 They joined five of the curtains together and did the same with the other five. 11 Then they made loops of blue material along the edge of the end curtain in one set, and the same was done with the end curtain in the other set. 12 They also made fifty loops on one curtain and fifty loops on the end curtain of the other set, with the loops opposite each other. 13 Then they made fifty gold clasps and used them to fasten the two sets of curtains together so that the tabernacle was a unit.(AK)

14 They made curtains of goat hair for the tent over the tabernacle—eleven altogether. 15 All eleven curtains were the same size—thirty cubits long and four cubits wide.[b] 16 They joined five of the curtains into one set and the other six into another set. 17 Then they made fifty loops along the edge of the end curtain in one set and also along the edge of the end curtain in the other set. 18 They made fifty bronze clasps to fasten the tent together as a unit.(AL) 19 Then they made for the tent a covering of ram skins dyed red, and over that a covering of the other durable leather.[c]

20 They made upright frames of acacia wood for the tabernacle. 21 Each frame was ten cubits long and a cubit and a half wide,[d] 22 with two projections set parallel to each other. They made all the frames of the tabernacle in this way. 23 They made twenty frames for the south side of the tabernacle 24 and made forty silver bases to go under them—two bases for each frame, one under each projection. 25 For the other side, the north side of the tabernacle, they made twenty frames 26 and forty silver bases—two under each frame. 27 They made six frames for the far end, that is, the west end of the tabernacle, 28 and two frames were made for the corners of the tabernacle at the far end. 29 At these two corners the frames were double from the bottom all the way to the top and fitted into a single ring; both were made alike. 30 So there were eight frames and sixteen silver bases—two under each frame.

31 They also made crossbars of acacia wood: five for the frames on one side of the tabernacle, 32 five for those on the other side, and five for the frames on the west, at the far end of the tabernacle. 33 They made the center crossbar so that it extended from end to end at the middle of the frames. 34 They overlaid the frames with gold and made gold rings to hold the crossbars. They also overlaid the crossbars with gold.

35 They made the curtain(AM) of blue, purple and scarlet yarn and finely twisted linen, with cherubim woven into it by a skilled worker. 36 They made four posts of acacia wood for it and overlaid them with gold. They made gold hooks for them and cast their four silver bases. 37 For the entrance to the tent they made a curtain of blue, purple and scarlet yarn and finely twisted linen—the work of an embroiderer;(AN) 38 and they made five posts with hooks for them. They overlaid the tops of the posts and their bands with gold and made their five bases of bronze.

Matthew 27:32-66

The Crucifixion of Jesus(A)

32 As they were going out,(B) they met a man from Cyrene,(C) named Simon, and they forced him to carry the cross.(D) 33 They came to a place called Golgotha (which means “the place of the skull”).(E) 34 There they offered Jesus wine to drink, mixed with gall;(F) but after tasting it, he refused to drink it. 35 When they had crucified him, they divided up his clothes by casting lots.(G) 36 And sitting down, they kept watch(H) over him there. 37 Above his head they placed the written charge against him: this is jesus, the king of the jews.

38 Two rebels were crucified with him,(I) one on his right and one on his left. 39 Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads(J) 40 and saying, “You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days,(K) save yourself!(L) Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God!”(M) 41 In the same way the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders mocked him. 42 “He saved others,” they said, “but he can’t save himself! He’s the king of Israel!(N) Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe(O) in him. 43 He trusts in God. Let God rescue him(P) now if he wants him, for he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” 44 In the same way the rebels who were crucified with him also heaped insults on him.

The Death of Jesus(Q)

45 From noon until three in the afternoon darkness(R) came over all the land. 46 About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli,[a] lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).[b](S)

47 When some of those standing there heard this, they said, “He’s calling Elijah.”

48 Immediately one of them ran and got a sponge. He filled it with wine vinegar,(T) put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. 49 The rest said, “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to save him.”

50 And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.(U)

51 At that moment the curtain of the temple(V) was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split(W) 52 and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. 53 They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and[c] went into the holy city(X) and appeared to many people.

54 When the centurion and those with him who were guarding(Y) Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, “Surely he was the Son of God!”(Z)

55 Many women were there, watching from a distance. They had followed Jesus from Galilee to care for his needs.(AA) 56 Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joseph,[d] and the mother of Zebedee’s sons.(AB)

The Burial of Jesus(AC)

57 As evening approached, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who had himself become a disciple of Jesus. 58 Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus’ body, and Pilate ordered that it be given to him. 59 Joseph took the body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, 60 and placed it in his own new tomb(AD) that he had cut out of the rock. He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb and went away. 61 Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were sitting there opposite the tomb.

The Guard at the Tomb

62 The next day, the one after Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate. 63 “Sir,” they said, “we remember that while he was still alive that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’(AE) 64 So give the order for the tomb to be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples may come and steal the body(AF) and tell the people that he has been raised from the dead. This last deception will be worse than the first.”

65 “Take a guard,”(AG) Pilate answered. “Go, make the tomb as secure as you know how.” 66 So they went and made the tomb secure by putting a seal(AH) on the stone(AI) and posting the guard.(AJ)

Exodus 34:1-35:9, Matthew 27:15-31, Psalms 33:12-22, Proverbs 9:1-6

Today is the 12th day of February welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I’m Brian it’s great to be here with you today, today and every day. And we are reaching the conclusion of another one of our weeks together. But we are continuing our journey forward misleads us back into the book of Exodus where we are learning the customs and rituals and obligations and covenants and rituals and everything that will form and shape a new culture out in the wilderness. Today Exodus chapter 34 verse 1 through 35 verse 9.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word. And as we approach in the Gospel of Matthew Your death, today Your sentencing to death and You’re beating and being led away, the mockery, the slapping, the beating, the spitting, the betrayal, we are watching the worst of humanity, and we are watching You endure the worst of humanity, That we might have another option, rather than missing the fact that You are present we have been given permission at any time to come into Your presence because of what we are reading here. You endured our worst so that we could be restored to the way we were created to be, that there is a pathway for us. And we confess that although we walk that path we deviate and move in and out of it all of the time. And as we focus upon Your resoluteness to obey Your father and set us free, we are grateful. And we ask Holy Spirit that You help our lives to reflect our gratitude. And we pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Good morning, everyone it’s Susan from Canada God’s Yellow Flower calling, and I want to respond to Ivy from Missouri. My dear sweetheart I have lost or outlived two husbands and believe you me the second is not…is not any easier than the first. And, yeah, it’s so painful, I know. I will never do it again. It took me 17 years to remarry and…and once he passed, I thought that’s it I’m done. It’s so difficult. But my dear sweetheart, you’re right. One step at a time, one day at a time, one little bit at a time. But you have to move on. I know it’s hard with COVID all over, but you have to cross that line, leave the past in the past and walk on faith and trust into the future and slowly build a life for yourself. Don’t let Satan win by keeping you down and…and depressed. Move forward dear sweet. I’m praying for you. Lord God encourage this young lady and just help her to take those steps on faith and trust in You leading the way dear God, just bless…bless her life with much goodness, much happiness, and much laughter. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Good morning, everyone it’s Karen and Saint Louis. Thanks so much Brian for this ministry. Thank you all for encouragement and prayers. I’m asking today if you would pray for an old friend of mine, Steve. I got a message from him letting me know that he has about three months left to live. He has had cancer for…gosh…I don’t know five years or so and he is a radical atheist. So, he went to church as a child. He got baptized when he was probably around 12 years old, and he turned away from it and he literally…it’s one of those things where he actually kind of disciple’s people for atheism. But he has a Bible. I hope he still has it. I know that a friend gave him one many years ago, talked to him about Jesus. And he was tight with that guy and eventually that person doesn’t have a relationship with him, and he thinks that it’s because he wasn’t able to convince him to be a Christian. I don’t think he understands the spiritual component of being a Christian. Anyway, just pray that the Lord would soften his heart, that he would be prepared to receive Him, that maybe he would get that Bible out and he would crack it open. I just think about what I became a believer. It was me getting my old Bible out that my grandma gave me as a child. And the word of God is sharper than a two-edged sword. So, please pray for Steve. Thank you so much. Thank you, Brian. God bless you and have a great week.

This call is for Ivy from Missouri. I heard your call today and I just want you to know that I relate to where you are at. I too lost my husband two years ago and my heart just goes out to you because I understand exactly what you’re going through. I’ll pray for you. My name is Karen. I’ll pray for you. You pray for me, that the Lord will sustain us little by little. I love the fact that you said that you are in His grip. I too am in his grip. And I appreciate Daily Audio Bible so much because it’s given me strength little by little, day by day to trust the Lord with all my heart and not to lean on my own understanding. Ivy, you have people praying for you.

Hi Daily Audio Bible this is Joanna from the Pacific Northwest. I just listened to an episode from February 9th and felt really encouraged by what Brian said and also by all of you who called in afterwards praying along with you. Thankful for you. And I have a prayer request I’d love to share with you all. My husband and I we’ve been married for a few years and have hoped to add to our family, but it hasn’t happened yet. And we’ve had a lot of words from the Lord, a lot of prayers about this in this season of life. And just it’s hard not to get discouraged and to keep hoping. And also, I would really love your prayers for my coworkers. I…we…my husband and I both work for a campus ministry and it feels a bit like there’s a…a dark cloud over a ministry in terms of having babies. In the last two years we’ve had four babies that were born either premature or right on their due date and then passed away and two miscarriages and lots of infertility. So…but divided among our few coworkers. And we’re not a huge team too so it…it’s felt like a big hit. So, if you could just, if you could pray for our team and for this to be lifted off of us, for the Lord to break off whatever Satan has attached to us and the way he’s trying to get at us we would be so grateful. So, love you all. Bye.

Exodus 34:1-35:9

The Second Set of Commandments

34 One day the Lord said to Moses, “Cut two flat stones like the first ones I made, and I will write on them the same commandments that were on the two you broke. Be ready tomorrow morning to come up Mount Sinai and meet me at the top. No one is to come with you or to be on the mountain at all. Don’t even let the sheep and cattle graze at the foot of the mountain.” So Moses cut two flat stones like the first ones, and early the next morning he carried them to the top of Mount Sinai, just as the Lord had commanded.

The Lord God came down in a cloud and stood beside Moses there on the mountain. God spoke his holy name, “the Lord.”[a] Then he passed in front of Moses and called out, “I am the Lord God. I am merciful and very patient with my people. I show great love, and I can be trusted. I keep my promises to my people forever, but I also punish anyone who sins. When people sin, I punish them and their children, and also their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.”

Moses quickly bowed down to the ground and worshiped the Lord. He prayed, “Lord, if you really are pleased with me, I pray that you will go with us. It is true that these people are sinful and rebellious, but forgive our sin and let us be your people.”

A Promise and Its Demands

10 The Lord said:

I promise to perform miracles for you that have never been seen anywhere on earth. Neighboring nations will stand in fear and know that I was the one who did these marvelous things. 11 I will force out the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, but you must do what I command you today. 12 Don’t make treaties with any of those people. If you do, it will be like falling into a trap. 13 Instead, you must destroy their altars and tear down the sacred poles[b] they use in the worship of the goddess Asherah. 14 I demand your complete loyalty—you must not worship any other god! 15 Don’t make treaties with the people there, or you will soon find yourselves worshiping their gods and taking part in their sacrificial meals. 16 Your men will even marry their women and be influenced to worship their gods.

17 Don’t make metal images of gods.

18 Don’t fail to observe the Festival of Thin Bread in the month of Abib.[c] Obey me and eat bread without yeast for seven days during Abib, because that is the month you left Egypt.

19 The first-born males of your families and of your flocks and herds belong to me.

20 You can save the life of a first-born donkey[d] by sacrificing a lamb; if you don’t, you must break the donkey’s neck. You must save every first-born son.

Bring an offering every time you come to worship.

21 Do your work in six days and rest on the seventh day, even during the seasons for plowing and harvesting. 22 Celebrate the Harvest Festival[e] each spring when you start harvesting your wheat, and celebrate the Festival of Shelters[f] each autumn when you pick your fruit.

23 Your men must come to worship me three times a year, because I am the Lord God of Israel. 24 I will force the nations out of your land and enlarge your borders. Then no one will try to take your property when you come to worship me these three times each year.

25 When you sacrifice an animal on the altar, don’t offer bread made with yeast. And don’t save any part of the Passover meal for the next day.

26 I am the Lord your God, and you must bring the first part of your harvest to the place of worship.

Don’t boil a young goat in its mother’s milk.

27 The Lord told Moses to put these laws in writing, as part of his agreement with Israel. 28 Moses stayed on the mountain with the Lord for forty days and nights, without eating or drinking. And he wrote down the Ten Commandments, the most important part of God’s agreement with his people.

Moses Comes Down from Mount Sinai

29 Moses came down from Mount Sinai, carrying the Ten Commandments. His face was shining brightly because the Lord had been speaking to him. But Moses did not know at first that his face was shining. 30 When Aaron and the others looked at Moses, they saw that his face was shining, and they were afraid to go near him. 31 Moses called out for Aaron and the leaders to come to him, and he spoke with them. 32 Then the rest of the people of Israel gathered around Moses, and he gave them the laws that the Lord had given him on Mount Sinai.

33 The face of Moses kept shining, and after he had spoken with the people, he covered his face with a veil. 34 Moses would always remove the veil when he went into the sacred tent to speak with the Lord. And when he came out, he would tell the people everything the Lord had told him to say. 35 They could see that his face was still shining. So after he had spoken with them, he would put the veil back on and leave it on until the next time he went to speak with the Lord.

Laws for the Sabbath

35 Moses called together the people of Israel and told them that the Lord had said:

You have six days in which to do your work. But the seventh day must be dedicated to me, your Lord, as a day of rest. Whoever works on the Sabbath will be put to death. Don’t even build a cooking fire at home on the Sabbath.

Offerings for the Sacred Tent

Moses told the people of Israel that the Lord had said:

I would welcome an offering from anyone who wants to give something. You may bring gold, silver, or bronze; blue, purple, or red wool; fine linen; goat hair; tanned ram skin or fine leather; acacia wood; olive oil for the lamp; sweet-smelling spices for the oil of dedication and for the incense; or onyx[g] stones or other gems for the sacred vest and breastpiece.

Matthew 27:15-31

The Death Sentence

15 During Passover the governor always freed a prisoner chosen by the people. 16 At that time a well-known terrorist named Jesus Barabbas[a] was in jail. 17 So when the crowd came together, Pilate asked them, “Which prisoner do you want me to set free? Do you want Jesus Barabbas or Jesus who is called the Messiah?” 18 Pilate knew that the leaders had brought Jesus to him because they were jealous.

19 While Pilate was judging the case, his wife sent him a message. It said, “Don’t have anything to do with that innocent man. I have had nightmares because of him.”

20 But the chief priests and the leaders convinced the crowds to ask for Barabbas to be set free and for Jesus to be killed. 21 Pilate asked the crowd again, “Which of these two men do you want me to set free?”

“Barabbas!” they replied.

22 Pilate asked them, “What am I to do with Jesus, who is called the Messiah?”

They all yelled, “Nail him to a cross!”

23 Pilate answered, “But what crime has he done?”

“Nail him to a cross!” they yelled even louder.

24 Pilate saw that there was nothing he could do and that the people were starting to riot. So he took some water and washed his hands[b] in front of them and said, “I won’t have anything to do with killing this man. You are the ones doing it!”

25 Everyone answered, “We and our own families will take the blame for his death!”

26 Pilate set Barabbas free. Then he ordered his soldiers to beat Jesus with a whip and nail him to a cross.

Soldiers Make Fun of Jesus

27 The governor’s soldiers led Jesus into the fortress[c] and brought together the rest of the troops. 28 They stripped off Jesus' clothes and put a scarlet robe[d] on him. 29 They made a crown out of thorn branches and placed it on his head, and they put a stick in his right hand. The soldiers knelt down and pretended to worship him. They made fun of him and shouted, “Hey, you king of the Jews!” 30 Then they spit on him. They took the stick from him and beat him on the head with it.

Jesus Is Nailed to a Cross

31 When the soldiers had finished making fun of Jesus, they took off the robe. They put his own clothes back on him and led him off to be nailed to a cross.

Footnotes:

  1. 27.16 Jesus Barabbas: Here and in verse 17 many manuscripts have “Barabbas.”
  2. 27.24 washed his hands: To show that he was innocent.
  3. 27.27 fortress: The place where the Roman governor stayed. It was probably at Herod’s palace west of Jerusalem, though it may have been Fortress Antonia north of the temple, where the Roman troops were stationed.
  4. 27.28 scarlet robe: This was probably a Roman soldier’s robe.

Psalm 33:12-22

12 The Lord blesses each nation
that worships only him.
He blesses his chosen ones.
13 The Lord looks at the world
14 from his throne in heaven,
and he watches us all.
15 The Lord gave us each a mind,
and nothing we do
can be hidden from him.

16 Mighty armies alone
cannot win wars for a king;
great strength by itself
cannot keep a soldier safe.
17 In war the strength of a horse
cannot be trusted
to take you to safety.
18 But the Lord watches over
all
who honor him
and trust his kindness.
19 He protects them from death
and starvation.

20 We depend on you, Lord,
to help and protect us.
21 You make our hearts glad
because we trust you,
the only God.
22 Be kind and bless us!
We depend on you.

Proverbs 9:1-6

Wisdom Gives a Feast

Wisdom has built her house
with its seven columns.
She has prepared the meat
and set out the wine.
Her feast is ready.

She has sent her servant women
to announce her invitation
from the highest hills:
“Everyone who is ignorant
or foolish is invited!
All of you are welcome
to my meat and wine.
If you want to live,
give up your foolishness
and let understanding
guide your steps.”

Exodus 32:1-33:23, Matthew 26:69-27:14, Psalm 33:1-11, Proverbs 8:33-36

Today is the 11th day of February, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian. It is great to be here with you today as we gather around the Global Campfire. It is such a joy that we have this little oasis, this place in each day that we can come to and step away from the chaos or any of the drama that’s going on and just exhale, allow the Scriptures to speak to us, what a beautiful thing this is. So, it is a joy and a delight to be here together today as we take the next step forward, which continues our journey through the book of Exodus where the law, the Mosaic law is being revealed. The children of Israel are at the base of the mountain, Moses is at the top of the mountain and he’s been gone a long time and the people are getting antsy about it. So, we’re reading from the Contemporary English Version this week, Exodus chapters 32 and 33.

Commentary:

Okay so, in the book of Exodus today, we have a pretty crazy situation. For centuries God had been enacting a plan that He had promised to Abraham with a mighty hand of authority. He freed his people from Egyptian slavery, it could of been easy, they could have let them go, but it took all of those plagues systematically dismantling Egypt and the people saw this and then they were set free and they left free but laden down with treasure from the Egyptians. He had been feeding the people in the wilderness where there was no supply for that many people. He had been leading them with fire in the night and a cloud in the day. They had witnessed the presence of God coming down upon the mountain. Moses had gone up the mountain to speak with God and they knew hits but within 40 days, they are bowing down to the image of a calf made out of gold, gold that had been melted down, with the treasures that they carried out of Egypt, that had been given to them by God. But within just a little over a month they think Moses has disappeared and they need a god to lead them forward. So, they bowed down to this golden calf and say this is the god that brought us out of Egypt and they worshiped and had this massive party. And we can look at the story and go, what are you guys thinking? Which is a fair question and one that the text is leading us to ask, what were they thinking? It appears that they weren’t, other than thinking that they didn’t know what happened to Moses. So, we can look at the story go, yup, this is a rebellious people, they are stiff-necked, they are acting crazy. And then it becomes the mirror. What happens to us when we have to wait more than 40 days for something, what happens to us when we feel that God is distant or it’s smoke and fog and we can’t see and we don’t know where to go. And so, we go looking for life on our own, in our own strength. One of the great messages of the wilderness that the children of Israel are in and the wildernesses that we face in our lives is that we come to the end of ourselves, realizing that we are utterly dependent upon God and that God is sustaining us. But so often in our own strength, we are trying to arrange for life to happen on our terms. And even though none of us probably have fashioned a golden calf that we have in the backyard that we worship; we might have something in the backyard that we worship. Because we need to remember that whatever we give our heart to, expecting life in return, that’s worship. So, we may not be bowing down to a golden calf, but we can bow down to a car or house, or a bank account or another person or anything that we worship. And it’s good for us to kind of get that inside of us, understanding that idol worship isn’t a main thing, at least in most of the societies that we live in. But we do turn too many things in search of life and there is only one source. And this is a manger lesson of the wilderness and a major theme in the Bible: idolatry. And we will see up close and personal where that road goes and it doesn’t go anywhere that we want to go. So, putting our trust in giving our allegiance and loyalty and offering our hearts in any direction other than the most high God is not a path we want to be on.

Prayer:

And so Father, we invite You into that even as we watch what’s happening here in the book of Exodus with the children of Israel. It really is easy for us to go, that was a long time ago and what are those people thinking but then your word becomes immediate and then we realize it’s different but we have the same tendencies within us. So, Holy Spirit, come. Help us to realize yet again, You are our source of life and provision and getting that through our heads and into our hearts and surrendering to that, opening ourselves up to that and becoming openhanded to You, is the wisest thing we could ever do and the safest place for us to ever be. Come, Holy Spirit into this we pray, in the name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.

Prayer and Encouragements:

Chelsea, you called in on February 6th and as I was listening to you, I felt the Lord put a verse on my heart from Habakkuk. And I’m in the car and I can’t look it up right now but it’s in the first chapter. And it comes after Habakkuk is calling out to the Lord and asking him for direction and asking where he is. And he responds by saying something like I hear you and you wouldn’t even believe what I’m about to do if I told you. So, that’s my prayer for you Chelsea, that you would have patience until the Lord intervenes and gives you wisdom and direction and shows you where to move and that He would surprise you with such a beautiful intervention in your life that when you look back, you’ll realize, you wouldn’t have even believed Him if He told you. That’s all.

Hey guys, this is Brad from Livingston, Montana. I haven’t called in, in a long time but I needed you guy’s prayers. So, briefly, it was about almost 12 years ago that I called in cause I had made a decision to start my own business and I asked for your prayers and it was amazing how God worked it. The day that I had to give my notice at my old job, that morning as I was listening to DAB, my call was played, right before I had to go in and talk to my boss. Well, that business was not something that God called me into. I decided to do that and I asked Him to bless it. And now, after that long in the business and it’s been nothing but a pain to me, it’s been really, really hard. I think I finally, God’s brought me to the place where I’m willing to give it up, but fear is really trying to creep in. So, I would ask your guy’s prayers that now that He’s pruned me enough that I’m willing, I’m so broken that I’m willing to do anything of course, but I want His perfect will. I don’t want my will. I want His is perfect will and I’m asking if you guys would stand with me in prayer, just as you did so long ago. And pray that God opens the doors that He wants me to walk-through and makes it evident to me. I love you guys and anybody else out there, don’t make the same mistake I did, wait on the Lord. Ask Him what He wants you to do. Love you guys. God bless you.

Good morning, good morning, everyone, this is my first time on this prayer line and I am just encouraged this morning and I’ve been having Ashley, the young lady that is pregnant, on my mind and I just wanted to voice my sincere concern about her. God has kept her on my heart because I was once that young lady in the same position. So, I, it is so relatable of the things that you’re going through and I just want to encourage you, you know, I’m closed to 50 years old now and I was once in your spot and God was with me. He protected me, He guided me and I want to refer back to one of our Bible studies when it talked about Hannah. I may have that wrong that name wrong and I’m so sorry, but it was the handmade as Sarah. When God comforted her after Sarah was being so mean to her and she ran away. And God, she named God, the God who sees her. So, I just wanted you to be encouraged from that particular scripture that we have gone through. That God see’s you, He’s there, He’s concerned, He sees your tears, He sees your heartache and He loves you and I love you and I want you to know that you know, we are here for you, we’re encouraging you and your child and God can bring about a miracle in your life. So, just know that I’m concerned and I’m praying for you. Have a wonderful day. God loves you and so do I.

Good morning Daily Audio Bible, this is Steve from Albertville, Alabama. I’m calling in today over a man I met over this past weekend at a conference. Who stated that he’s going through some heavy stuff. His wife committed suicide, two weeks and about 4 days ago. And every time he goes to church around people who knew his wife, all he sees is death. I pray against the attacks of the enemy. I pray against suicide. I pray against every firing dart that the enemy throws at us as a community and all those that we pray for. Guys this battle is real, it’s relentless and I pray that each and every one of you will be strong and stand firm in the faith. Brian and your entire family who produces and makes this possible, for us to have this platform, I thank you. It’s a way to share your faith, it’s a way to be in community with like-minded people and I just pray over Greg and his walk through the fire. Put your arm around somebody that is going through the fire and help them walk because sometimes we just need a little help, sometimes we need a little prayer, sometimes we just need someone to talk to. Steve from Albertville, Alabama. God bless you all and thank you so much.

My name is Tamika and I’m from Missouri. I’ve listened to DAB for years and this is my first-time calling in. I just got done with the February 9th prayers and I hear Ivy from Missouri too and my ears really perked. You were talking about your late husband and how you need to do things little by little. And I was reminded of the story of the woman who gave the one talent at the, at the temple. And Jesus said to his disciples, she has given everything. Know that your little by little is enough, it’s enough for Jesus. And to anyone who may be listening to this you are made in the image of God. And whatever you are struggling with, even if you can’t, if you feel like you can’t give it all to Jesus yet, little by little, that’s enough. The God who holds the whole universe still also holds you. Peace be with you.

Exodus 32-33

The People Make an Idol To Worship

32 After the people saw that Moses had been on the mountain for a long time, they went to Aaron and said, “Make us an image of a god who will lead and protect us. Moses brought us out of Egypt, but nobody knows what has happened to him.”

Aaron told them, “Bring me the gold earrings that your wives and sons and daughters are wearing.” Everybody took off their earrings and brought them to Aaron, then he melted them and made an idol in the shape of a young bull.

All the people said to one another, “This is the god who brought us out of Egypt!”

When Aaron saw what was happening, he built an altar in front of the idol and said, “Tomorrow we will celebrate in honor of the Lord.” The people got up early the next morning and killed some animals to be used for sacrifices and others to be eaten. Then everyone ate and drank so much that they began to carry on like wild people.

The Lord said to Moses:

Hurry back down! Those people you led out of Egypt are acting like fools. They have already stopped obeying me and have made themselves an idol in the shape of a young bull. They have bowed down to it, offered sacrifices, and said that it is the god who brought them out of Egypt. Moses, I have seen how stubborn these people are, 10 and I’m angry enough to destroy them, so don’t try to stop me. But I will make your descendants into a great nation.

11 Moses tried to get the Lord God to change his mind:

Our Lord, you used your mighty power to bring these people out of Egypt. Now don’t become angry and destroy them. 12 If you do, the Egyptians will say that you brought your people out here into the mountains just to get rid of them. Please don’t be angry with your people. Don’t destroy them!

13 Remember the solemn promise you made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. You promised that someday they would have as many descendants as there are stars in the sky and that you would give them land.

14 So even though the Lord had threatened to destroy the people, he changed his mind and let them live.

15-16 Moses went back down the mountain with the two flat stones on which God had written all of his laws with his own hand, and he had used both sides of the stones.

17 When Joshua heard the noisy shouts of the people, he said to Moses, “A battle must be going on down in the camp.”

18 But Moses replied, “It doesn’t sound like they are shouting because they have won or lost a battle. They are singing wildly!”

19 As Moses got closer to the camp, he saw the idol, and he also saw the people dancing around. This made him so angry that he threw down the stones and broke them to pieces at the foot of the mountain. 20 He melted the idol the people had made, and he ground it into powder. He scattered it in their water and made them drink it. 21 Moses asked Aaron, “What did these people do to harm you? Why did you make them sin in this terrible way?”

22 Aaron answered:

Don’t be angry with me. You know as well as I do that they are determined to do evil. 23 They even told me, “That man Moses led us out of Egypt, but now we don’t know what has happened to him. Make us a god to lead us.” 24 Then I asked them to bring me their gold earrings. They took them off and gave them to me. I threw the gold into a fire, and out came this bull.

25 Moses knew that the people were out of control and that it was Aaron’s fault. And now they had made fools of themselves in front of their enemies. 26 So Moses stood at the gate of the camp and shouted, “Everyone who is on the Lord’s side come over here!”

Then the men of the Levi tribe gathered around Moses, 27 and he said to them, “The Lord God of Israel commands you to strap on your swords and go through the camp, killing your relatives, your friends, and your neighbors.”

28 The men of the Levi tribe followed his orders, and that day they killed about three thousand men. 29 Moses said to them, “You obeyed the Lord and did what was right, and so you will serve as his priests for the people of Israel. It was hard for you to kill your own sons and brothers, but the Lord has blessed you and made you his priests today.”

30 The next day Moses told the people, “This is a terrible thing you have done. But I will go back to the Lord to see if I can do something to keep this sin from being held against you.”

31 Moses returned to the Lord and said, “The people have committed a terrible sin. They have made a gold idol to be their god. 32 But I beg you to forgive them. If you don’t, please wipe my name out of your book.”[a]

33 The Lord replied, “I will wipe out of my book the name of everyone who has sinned against me. 34 Now take my people to the place I told you about, and my angel will lead you. But when the time comes, I will punish them for this sin.”

35 So the Lord punished the people of Israel with a terrible disease for talking Aaron into making the gold idol.

The Lord Tells Israel To Leave Mount Sinai

33 The Lord said to Moses:

You led the people of Israel out of Egypt. Now get ready to lead them to the land I promised their ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. 2-3 It is a land rich with milk and honey, and I will send an angel to force out those people who live there—the Canaanites, the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. I would go with my people, but they are so rebellious that I would destroy them before they get there.

4-5 Even before the Lord said these harsh things, he had told Moses, “These people really are rebellious, and I would kill them at once, if I went with them. But tell them to take off their fancy jewelry, then I’ll decide what to do with them.” So the people started mourning, and after leaving Mount Sinai,[b] they stopped wearing fancy jewelry.

The Lord Is with His People

Moses used to set up a tent far from camp. He called it the “meeting tent,” and whoever needed some message from the Lord would go there. Each time Moses went out to the tent, everyone would stand at the entrance to their own tents and watch him enter. 9-11 Then they would bow down because a thick cloud would come down in front of the tent, and the Lord would speak to Moses face to face, just like a friend. Afterwards, Moses would return to camp, but his young assistant Joshua[c] would stay at the tent.

The Lord Promises To Be with His People

12 Moses said to the Lord, “I know that you have told me to lead these people to the land you promised them. But you have not told me who my assistant will be. You have said that you are my friend and that you are pleased with me. 13 If this is true, let me know what your plans are, then I can obey and continue to please you. And don’t forget that you have chosen this nation to be your own.”

14 The Lord said, “I will go with you and give you peace.”

15 Then Moses replied, “If you aren’t going with us, please don’t make us leave this place. 16 But if you do go with us, everyone will know that you are pleased with your people and with me. That way, we will be different from the rest of the people on earth.”

17 So the Lord told him, “I will do what you have asked, because I am your friend and I am pleased with you.”

18 Then Moses said, “I pray that you will let me see you in all of your glory.”

19 The Lord answered:

All right. I am the Lord, and I show mercy and kindness to anyone I choose. I will let you see my glory and hear my holy name, 20 but I won’t let you see my face, because anyone who sees my face will die. 21 There is a rock not far from me. Stand beside it, 22 and before I pass by in all of my shining glory, I will put you in a large crack in the rock. I will cover your eyes with my hand until I have passed by. 23 Then I will take my hand away, and you will see my back. You will not see my face.

Matthew 26:69-27:14

Peter Says He Doesn’t Know Jesus

69 While Peter was sitting out in the courtyard, a servant girl came up to him and said, “You were with Jesus from Galilee.”

70 But in front of everyone Peter said, “That isn’t so! I don’t know what you are talking about!”

71 When Peter had gone out to the gate, another servant girl saw him and said to some people there, “This man was with Jesus from Nazareth.”

72 Again Peter denied it, and this time he swore, “I don’t even know that man!”

73 A little while later some people standing there walked over to Peter and said, “We know that you are one of them. We can tell it because you talk like someone from Galilee.”

74 Peter began to curse and swear, “I don’t know that man!”

Right then a rooster crowed, 75 and Peter remembered that Jesus had said, “Before a rooster crows, you will say three times that you don’t know me.” Then Peter went out and cried hard.

Jesus Is Taken to Pilate

27 Early the next morning all the chief priests and the nation’s leaders met and decided that Jesus should be put to death. They tied him up and led him away to Pilate the governor.

The Death of Judas

Judas had betrayed Jesus, but when he learned that Jesus had been sentenced to death, he was sorry for what he had done. He returned the thirty silver coins to the chief priests and leaders and said, “I have sinned by betraying a man who has never done anything wrong.”

“So what? That’s your problem,” they replied. Judas threw the money into the temple and then went out and hanged himself.

The chief priests picked up the money and said, “This money was paid to have a man killed. We can’t put it in the temple treasury.” Then they had a meeting and decided to buy a field that belonged to someone who made clay pots. They wanted to use it as a graveyard for foreigners. That’s why people still call that place “Field of Blood.” So the words of the prophet Jeremiah came true,

“They took
the thirty silver coins,
the price of a person
among the people of Israel.
10 They paid it
for a potter’s field,[a]
as the Lord
had commanded me.”

Pilate Questions Jesus

11 Jesus was brought before Pilate the governor, who asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?”

“Those are your words!” Jesus answered. 12 And when the chief priests and leaders brought their charges against him, he did not say a thing.

13 Pilate asked him, “Don’t you hear what crimes they say you have done?” 14 But Jesus did not say anything, and the governor was greatly amazed.

Footnotes:

  1. 27.10 a potter’s field: Perhaps a field owned by someone who made clay pots. But it may have been a field where potters came to get clay or to make pots or to throw away their broken pieces of pottery.

Psalm 33:1-11

Sing Praises to the Lord

33 You are the Lord’s people.
Obey him and celebrate!
He deserves your praise.
Praise the Lord with harps!
Use harps with ten strings
to make music for him.
Sing a new song. Shout!
Play beautiful music.

The Lord is truthful;
he can be trusted.
He loves justice and fairness,
and he is kind to everyone
everywhere on earth.

The Lord made the heavens
and everything in them
by his word.
He scooped up the ocean
and stored the water.
Everyone in this world
should worship
and honor
the Lord!
As soon as he spoke
the world was created;
at his command,
the earth was formed.

10 The Lord destroys the plans
and spoils the schemes
of the nations.
11 But what the Lord has planned
will stand forever.
His thoughts never change.

Proverbs 8:33-36

33 Listen carefully
to my instructions,
and you will be wise.

34 Come to my home each day
and listen to me.
You will find happiness.
35 By finding me, you find life,
and the Lord will be pleased
with you.
36 But if you don’t find me,
you hurt only yourself,
and if you hate me,
you are in love with death.

Exodus 30:11-31:18, Matthew 26:47-68, Psalms 32:1-11, Proverbs 8:27-32

Today is the 10th day of February welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I’m Brian and it is wonderful…wonderful to be here with you today as we do what we do every day and move forward, the next step forward together. And that next up leads us back into the book of Exodus. As we know we’ve been kind of camping with the children of Israel around Mount Sinai where what will become known as the Mosaic law is being revealed. We’re reading from the Contemporary English Version this week. Exodus chapter 30 verse 11 through 31 verse 18 today.

Commentary:

Okay. So, yesterday we began to talk about the fact that we are encountering the passion narrative for the first time this year, for the first time in the Gospel of Matthew. And the passion narrative is the story of the last days and death of Jesus. So, we left Jesus praying in the garden of Gethsemane with a mob on their way yesterday. And, of course, today the mob arrives with clubs and swords and one of the men that Jesus, God made flesh, had poured himself into, instructed, and taught walked up to him and gave him the kiss of betrayal, Judas. And then Jesus was arrested with a good amount of drama in the process. He was then taken to the house of Caiaphas, the high priest at that time. So, let’s just understand the lay of the land here. The Mount of Olives is…well…it’s not a mountain like Mount Everest, but it’s a big swelling hill right outside Jerusalem. And when you reach the base of the Mount of Olives you have entered the Kedron Valley and on the other side of the Kedron Valley then is Jerusalem. There is a place there near the old city that is called St. Peter in Gallicantu. And GFallicantu means rooster crows. And there is a really really beautiful chapel for contemplation and consideration of the fact that Jesus was brought before the high priest and Peter had followed along at a distance and was in the courtyard outside trying to figure out what was gonna happen. And there are ruins their believed to be the high priest’s quarters. And it’s not unusual for the places, especially the places that surround the life and ministry of Jesus to have church built on top of them. Sometimes ruins of more than one church that is built on top of a location. And this has historically been for the protection of the place, the preservation of the place and also the just the honoring or veneration of the place. But also, Jerusalem and the entire land of Israel has been through all kinds of conflict over thousands of years and some of that has been a pretty significant religious conflict. And, so, there have been times when other nations with other belief systems have taken control and systematically destroyed or desecrated some of these places and then maybe they were rebuilt, maybe they were destroyed again and rebuilt. And, so, there’s a number of layers in a number of these places. This is also happened on the Christian side of things where Christians, maybe in medieval times during the Crusades, or other times of taking control of the land and destroyed or desecrated important places to other cultures. And, so, a lot of times when there’s a church that’s built over a church that’s built over a church you can go down. Like the bedrock of what was originally there and the ruins of what might’ve been there are preserved below…below the ground because that’s kind of how history goes. It starts one place and then another layer and another layer and another layer as time goes by and like cities grow up and the ruins of the original city are below the ground. So, St. Peter in Gallicantu is such a place preserving what is believed to be the priests, the high priests home dwelling. And at the time of Jesus that would’ve been Caiaphas. And it’s probably not the last time we’ll talk about this because from when we come to these passion narratives I think of this place more than most, because if you get below the ground and go down to the ruins you see ancient storerooms and a cistern, a place where supplies were certainly kept, but also a place where people were kept. And it is believed that this is where Jesus was stored while all the arrangements with the Roman authorities could be again to be developed. It’s actually a difficult place for me to be in. I can’t say why. It’s not like I haven’t been in a cave before or some kind of ruins like this. It’s just to think that Jesus was stored there awaiting his torture and crucifixion. And this is the place where we find ourselves today in our reading, where Jesus is being questioned and ridiculed and ultimately condemned as a blasphemer as someone who is attempting to elevate himself to the place of God, which is blasphemy. So, it’s ironic for God to be convicted of blasphemy. But once it had been determined that He was guilty and deserved to die than they mistreated Jesus. And that’s where we leave our reading today, with the image of our Savior bound, His freedom was taken from Him, He was in custody. He had spit dripping into His beard and dripping down onto His clothes because they were spitting in His face and they were hitting Him with their fists and slapping Him and ridiculing Him by saying basically, “if You’re a Messiah or a prophet than who hit You?” That’s a pretty difficult scene to imagine or hold in our hearts if…if we’re in love with the Savior. And that’s where our reading ends today. And, so, it gives us an opportunity just to take this piece by piece, meditate on it, consider it. Consider the humanity of it. Consider the divinity of it. And consider what people are capable of doing.

And then we really can’t leave today without going into the book of Proverbs for a second because the voice of wisdom is the voice that is speaking in the Proverbs today and she is saying some profound things. And, so, let’s revisit this for second understanding that this is wisdom speaking. “I was there when the Lord put the heavens in place and stretched the sky over the surface of the sea. I was with Him when he placed the clouds in the sky and created the springs that fill the ocean. I was there when He set boundaries for the sea to make it obey him when he laid foundations to support the earth. I was right beside the Lord helping Him plan and build. I made Him happy Each day, and I was happy at His side. I was pleased with His world and pleased with its people. Pay attention my children. Follow my advice and you will be happy.” What’s profound about this is that wisdom is a companion of God and wisdom saw the whole thing when he created all things, which is remarkable. What’s even more remarkable is that wisdom, the same wisdom is available to us. So, if there is a case to be made for making becoming wise a category in our lives, here it is. The voice of wisdom has told us that she is more desirable…it is more important that we obtain wisdom than riches or gold or anything else that we could desire, and now we’re told that wisdom has been a part of the story since the very beginning. If we could just not blow by this. If we could understand that this is the goal. This is the thing we need. Our lives aren’t going to work without wisdom. And, so, may we do exactly what the Bible says and seek it.

Prayer:

Father, we love You. Jesus, we worship You. And as we’re entering into this story of Your sacrifice on our behalf and not like You just sacrificed something that You hadn’t wanted but that You gave Your life for us. Holy Spirit, awaken us and make this real within ourselves. Help us to glimpse what true pure love looks like. And we also ask for wisdom. Help us to know when we are encountering wisdom. Help us to slow down in our decision-making to seek wisdom who says She is there at the crossroads shouting to us. Help us to slow down and seek wisdom in our choices and decisions that we might become wise, and that we might be a delight to You. We pray this in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Good morning DAB family my name is PA Chappy and I am a Pennsylvania Army National Guard chaplain and I just have an amazing huge praise report to report to you guys. I started listening to the DAB in January 2016 just two months before I got divorced and thought that my time as a minister was over and that I wouldn’t have any other opportunities to do ministry. But God has had a different plan for me, and I am now actually one week away becoming a full-on chaplain at the with the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. I’ve been to chaplain candidate. And just yesterday I preached a sermon at a church that I had been candidating at to be their pastor and they voted to take me on as their pastor and I will begin as their pastor full time on March the 1st. This is a huge praise report for me but it’s also a prayer request. Please keep me and my family in your prayers as we begin this time of ministry as a pastor. And I know that the devil isn’t going to be happy about what we’re gonna be doing in the town that we’re in, reaching people and helping people find hope and healing through Jesus Christ and God…God is going to be working through this, but I know that the devil is gonna be attacking our family as well. So, please keep us in your prayers. We have a mighty work, kingdom work ahead of us and we want to do some mighty great things on behalf of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. Thank you DAB family for your support.

Hi I’m __ Wisdom. This is for Kira Contrite Spirit. I just got through listening to your beautiful spirit filled heart loving soul. I thank God because His word tells us but I say unto you love your enemies bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you and pray for them which despitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be the children of your Father which is in heaven for He makes the sun to rise on the evil and on the good and send the rain on the just and the unjust. Lord I just pray to You with thanksgiving in my heart. Thank you, Lord that you’re teaching us to not hold on to the trials and the troubles in this world with people because it’s not worth it. We are truly called the children of the most-high God. Therefore, we must ought to know in our hearts, mind, body, souls and spirit that there’s nothing on this earth that heaven cannot heal and there’s path…no path that He can’t make straight. He make the crooked path straight. And I just thank you Lord that we as your church can come to the throne of glory and find mercy and peace. Thank you, young woman. Thank you. And I thank the Lord for placing it in your heart because we’re all going through something. You know, the word of the Lord tells us because the __ shall abound the love of many will wax cold. But it doesn’t mean we have to wax cold. We have to rise up higher in our minds and understanding know that with Christ we live with with Christ we die. It’s not for __ but for him who endured to the end. Be blessed everyone and carry on in the spirit of the living God in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Afternoon DAB community. Thank you, Brian for keeping this going for all of us to join and hear God’s word daily. Such a blessing to so many around the world. I heard Kira Contrite Spirit sing a song to everyone who hurt her telling them she forgive them. I heard the voice of God. I heard the voice of women. I heard the voice of people who I’ve heard. And I just want to pray right now for people I’ve hurt and most likely because of hurt that I’ve experienced in my life. I’m just so sorry. Dear Lord, I just ask you to be with me. Help me Lord God to just show your love. First Corinthians 13:__ to the world around me fill me up with Your love Father God. Allow Your love to be what pours out in my life into the lives of those who I come into contact every day. I just ask You Lord God to be with anyone I’ve ever hurt in my life. Lord God just bless their lives. Help them to see maybe the reasons why I did it. Give me the opportunity to make amends if that opportunity still exists. Lord, please forgive me for all the times I didn’t know what I was doing, and I was hurting your people, hurting your children instead of blessing them and helping them to reconcile to you through your love. In Jesus’ name Amen.

Hi, it’s Shannon from Texas and I just want to say to Dorothy Jean from Fort Worth, wow what a testimony. What an anointing. You truly blessed me with your call. And I’m actually calling because I realize I haven’t given a true praise report for the many years since 2014 that I started calling in about my son Jadrien. And just a multitude of things, a rage issue, just violence, murder, speak…constantly speaking of death out of his mouth. It, you know, just so much. And I prayed and called in and toward the end of all this before his miraculous deliverance I really got down and prayed every single day. And you guys help me with that because I called in a lot. And now he has…he went to a rehab in prison for almost a year and when he got out it took him just a little bit to get back to himself. But let me tell you the miracle, the miracle that has taken place because he has been totally transformed. It’s providing for his son as a father. Got a job immediately and got a…like a supervisors’ position with a work truck. And it's…just…it blows my mind. I cry about it every single day. It’s just…it’s the most amazing thing I have ever witnessed in my life. And to see him being so bad on drugs and just…it’s almost like you just can’t even fathom that it’s possible. So, I want to encourage anyone that has a child or an adult child that’s struggling. It is not over. And you just keep praying. Keep calling in for prayer. There is hope and you will see deliverance and complete and total redemption. I love all you I’m praying for…

Good morning Daily Audio Bible this is John out of Louisiana. I’m calling in for prayer. It seems I’m slowly losing the use my legs. I can’t stand like I used to. I can’t walk half as far. And I went from my walking cane to a support cane and occasionally I have to go in a wheelchair. And, so, I’m just asking for prayer because I don’t wanna lose my legs. I’ve done lost enough. Well, that’s another story. But thank you all. I want to thank you all in advance for the prayers. Love you. OK. Later.

Exodus 30:11-31:18

The Money for the Sacred Tent

11 The Lord said to Moses:

12 Find out how many grown men there are in Israel and require each of them to pay me to keep him safe from danger while you are counting them. 13-15 Each man over nineteen, whether rich or poor, must pay me the same amount of money, weighed according to the official standards. 16 This money is to be used for the upkeep of the sacred tent, and because of it, I will never forget my people.

The Large Bronze Bowl

17 The Lord said to Moses:

18-21 Make a large bronze bowl and a bronze stand for it. Then put them between the altar for sacrifice and the sacred tent, so the priests can wash their hands and feet before entering the tent or offering a sacrifice on the altar. Each priest in every generation must wash himself in this way, or else he will die right there.

The Oil for Dedication and Ordination

22 The Lord said to Moses:

23-25 Mix a gallon of olive oil with the following costly spices: twelve pounds of myrrh, six pounds of cinnamon, six pounds of cane, and twelve pounds of cassia. Measure these according to the official standards. Then use this sacred mixture 26 for dedicating the tent and chest, 27 the table with its equipment, the lampstand with its equipment, the incense altar with all its utensils, 28 the altar for sacrifices, and the large bowl with its stand. 29 By dedicating them in this way, you will make them so holy that anyone who even touches them will become holy.

30 When you ordain Aaron and his sons as my priests, sprinkle them with some of this oil, 31 and say to the people of Israel: “This oil must always be used in the ordination service of a priest. It is holy because it is dedicated to the Lord. 32 So treat it as holy! Don’t ever use it for everyday purposes or mix any for yourselves. 33 If you do, you will no longer belong to the Lord’s people.”

The Sweet-Smelling Incense

34-35 Mix equal amounts of the costly spices stacte, onycha, galbanum, and pure frankincense, then add salt to make the mixture pure and holy. 36 Pound some of it into powder and sprinkle it in front of the sacred chest, where I meet with you. Be sure to treat this incense as something very holy. 37 It is truly holy because it is dedicated to me, so don’t ever make any for yourselves. 38 If you ever make any of it to use as perfume, you will no longer belong to my people.

The Lord Chooses Bezalel and Oholiab

31 The Lord said to Moses:

I have chosen Bezalel[a] from the Judah tribe to make the sacred tent and its furnishings. 3-5 Not only have I filled him with my Spirit, but I have given him wisdom and made him a skilled craftsman who can create objects of art with gold, silver, bronze, stone, and wood. I have appointed Oholiab[b] from the tribe of Dan to work with him, and I have also given skills to those who will help them make everything exactly as I have commanded you: 7-11 the sacred tent with its furnishings, the sacred chest with its place of mercy, the table with all that is on it, the lamp with its equipment, the incense altar, the altar for sacrifices with its equipment, the bronze bowl with its stand, the beautiful priestly clothes for Aaron and his sons, the oil for dedication and ordination services, and the sweet-smelling incense for the holy place.

Laws for the Sabbath

12-13 Moses told the Israelites that the Lord had said:

The Sabbath belongs to me. Now I command you and your descendants to always obey the laws of the Sabbath. By doing this, you will know that I have chosen you as my own. 14-15 Keep the Sabbath holy. You have six days to do your work, but the Sabbath is mine, and it must remain a day of rest. If you work on the Sabbath, you will no longer be part of my people, and you will be put to death.

16 Every generation of Israelites must respect the Sabbath. 17 This day will always serve as a reminder, both to me and to the Israelites, that I made the heavens and the earth in six days, then on the seventh day I rested and relaxed.

18 When God had finished speaking to Moses on Mount Sinai, he gave him the two flat stones on which he had written all of his laws with his own hand.

Matthew 26:47-68

Jesus Is Arrested

47 Jesus was still speaking, when Judas the betrayer came up. He was one of the twelve disciples, and a large mob armed with swords and clubs was with him. They had been sent by the chief priests and the nation’s leaders. 48 Judas had told them ahead of time, “Arrest the man I greet with a kiss.”[a]

49 Judas walked right up to Jesus and said, “Hello, teacher.” Then Judas kissed him.

50 Jesus replied, “My friend, why are you here?”[b]

The men grabbed Jesus and arrested him. 51 One of Jesus' followers pulled out a sword. He struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his ear.

52 But Jesus told him, “Put your sword away. Anyone who lives by fighting will die by fighting. 53 Don’t you know that I could ask my Father, and right away he would send me more than twelve armies of angels? 54 But then, how could the words of the Scriptures come true, which say that this must happen?”

55 Jesus said to the mob, “Why do you come with swords and clubs to arrest me like a criminal? Day after day I sat and taught in the temple, and you didn’t arrest me. 56 But all this happened, so that what the prophets wrote would come true.”

All of Jesus' disciples left him and ran away.

Jesus Is Questioned by the Council

57 After Jesus had been arrested, he was led off to the house of Caiaphas the high priest. The nation’s leaders and the teachers of the Law of Moses were meeting there. 58 But Peter followed along at a distance and came to the courtyard of the high priest’s palace. He went in and sat down with the guards to see what was going to happen.

59 The chief priests and the whole council wanted to put Jesus to death. So they tried to find some people who would tell lies about him in court.[c] 60 But they could not find any, even though many did come and tell lies. At last, two men came forward 61 and said, “This man claimed that he would tear down God’s temple and build it again in three days.”

62 The high priest stood up and asked Jesus, “Why don’t you say something in your own defense? Don’t you hear the charges they are making against you?” 63 But Jesus did not answer. So the high priest said, “With the living God looking on, you must tell the truth. Tell us, are you the Messiah, the Son of God?”[d]

64 “That is what you say!” Jesus answered. “But I tell all of you,

‘Soon you will see
the Son of Man
sitting at the right side[e]
of God All-Powerful
and coming on the clouds
of heaven.’”

65 The high priest then tore his robe and said, “This man claims to be God! We don’t need any more witnesses! You have heard what he said. 66 What do you think?”

They answered, “He is guilty and deserves to die!” 67 Then they spit in his face and hit him with their fists. Others slapped him 68 and said, “You think you are the Messiah! So tell us who hit you!”

Psalm 32

(A special psalm by David.)

The Joy of Forgiveness

32 Our God, you bless everyone
whose sins you forgive
and wipe away.
You bless them by saying,
“You told me your sins,
without trying to hide them,
and now I forgive you.”

Before I confessed my sins,
my bones felt limp,
and I groaned all day long.
Night and day your hand
weighed heavily on me,
and my strength was gone
as in the summer heat.

So I confessed my sins
and told them all to you.
I said, “I’ll tell the Lord
each one of my sins.”
Then you forgave me
and took away my guilt.

We worship you, Lord,
and we should always pray
whenever we find out
that we have sinned.[a]
Then we won’t be swept away
by a raging flood.
You are my hiding place!
You protect me from trouble,
and you put songs in my heart
because you have saved me.

You said to me,
“I will point out the road
that you should follow.
I will be your teacher
and watch over you.
Don’t be stupid
like horses and mules
that must be led with ropes
to make them obey.”

10 All kinds of troubles
will strike the wicked,
but your kindness shields those
who trust you, Lord.
11 And so your good people
should celebrate and shout.

Proverbs 8:27-32

27 I was there when the Lord
put the heavens in place
and stretched the sky
over the surface of the sea.
28 I was with him when he placed
the clouds in the sky
and created the springs
that fill the ocean.
29 I was there when he set
boundaries for the sea
to make it obey him,
and when he laid foundations
to support the earth.

30 I was right beside the Lord,
helping him plan and build.[a]
I made him happy each day,
and I was happy at his side.
31 I was pleased with his world
and pleased with its people.

32 Pay attention, my children!
Follow my advice,
and you will be happy.

Exodus 29:1-30:10, Matthew 26:14-46, Psalm 31:19-24, Proverbs 8:14-26

Today is the ninth day of February, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian, it is awesome to be here with you today and a joy to continue our journey together. And that journey leads us back into the book of Exodus today for our Old Testament reading. And we are at Mount Sinai still, Moses still up on the mountain and the laws, customs, rituals holidays, all the things that will shape this newly forming people in the wilderness is being revealed and so we pick up the story, Exodus chapter 29 verse 1 through 30 verse 10.

Commentary:

Okay so, in the book of Matthew, the first of the four Gospels, we are entering into a story that we will hear in each of the Gospels, but for we who believe in Jesus, this, this is an agonizing story, but it is also the story of our salvation. And so, we’ve seen that one of the 12 disciples, the one named Judas Iscariot was ultimately a betrayer and he went to the the Hebrew religious leadership and negotiated a price. The price on Jesus head, 30 pieces of silver, 30 pieces of silver to betray God. And when we look at the story obviously, we we know this is wrong and in what we read today, we see the disciples going, it’ll never be me, like I will never deny you even if I have to die with you, I will never deny you, but they did. And when I allow this to become a mirror, I’m guilty There have been times my life in thought or word or action that I’ve been willing to betray God for a lot less than 30 pieces of silver. We all have, we’ve all fallen short of the glory of God. And so, when we come to this point and this is the first time this year that we’re coming to this point, it’s important for us to not just blow by this, it’s important for us to know that God most high, the one giving Moses the laws that are going to shape the people on the top of Mount Sinai, that God came here incarnated into a human body to rescue us, and that God has been betrayed by humanity over and over and over repeatedly and we are guilty. We’re the ones supposed to be executed but through Christ we have been pardoned and the gratitude that should come from that should shake us to the core and so let’s embrace this story each time it comes up.

We also witness a very famous scene known as the last supper and let’s remember that that’s actually what this is His last supper, His last meal and it’s at this meal that He breaks the bread and passes the cup. Generally speaking, all Christians, no matter what tradition or flavor or stripe continue in this tradition what has come to be known as the Eucharist or communion or the Lord’s table or any number of things. And this observance comes from here, from the last meal.

And then we see Jesus and His disciples go to the garden of Gethsemane where Jesus in anguish prays and His prayer is a very human prayer. If there’s any way to get me out of this, if there’s any other way. If we try to put ourselves in this position, obviously, we can’t put ourselves in the position of Jesus. But if we just consider the scenario that we know we’re eating our last meal, we know that we’re about to be arrested and we know we will be condemned to die. That is very weighty, that is a very grave and from the narrative in the gospel of Matthew we can see that it is taking a toll on Jesus because it’s not only that He knows He’s had His last meal and that He’s about to be arrested and tortured, it’s that He also knows that all of the people that He has poured His life into, all of the miles that they have traveled together, they’re going to abandon Him. I hate that so much but there have been seasons in my life that I have been guilty of the same thing, we all have. And will continue obviously, with the story tomorrow, but for us to just sit with that, to just consider that, helps us to begin to realize that the things that we take for granted did not come cheap and we may not be able to arrange for our own salvation but we have a debt of gratitude that we can’t pay. But one of the ways that we express that gratitude directly to God is by being aware of the least of these, which is exactly what we’re talking about yesterday. And so, let’s consider this as we move through our day.

Prayer:

And Jesus, what can we say, we are all guilty of betraying You in one way or another and yet You have remained faithful and have rescued us and have loved us, despite it all. We don’t deserve any of it. We don’t deserve to be able to talk to You, we don’t deserve life itself. It has all been given to us as a gift and we are well aware of the ways that we have squandered it, but we are beginning to awaken. The Scriptures are speaking loud and clear day by day, step-by-step, and we are learning but knowledge itself won’t do it. We surrender to Your goodness and Your kindness to us and we repent of our rebellion. And we ask Holy Spirit that You would come and continue to shape us into the image of our Savior and we pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Announcements:

dailyaudiobible.com that is home base, that is home of the Global Campfire where we gather each and every day. Of course, the Daily Audio Bible app is essentially the same thing so, check it out. Check out the Community section, that is a good one to know there are links there to the different social media channels that the Daily Audio Bible is involved in and those are reasonably good to be aware of if we’re making an announcement or just sending out an encouragement, if you do social media than it would be good to be connected in hat way. But the Community section is also the home of the Prayer Wall and that resource has been an invaluable resource for a very, very large number of years now, for thousands and thousands of people because it’s always there. There is always a place we can go and ask for prayer. There is always a place where we can go and pray for each other and so that, the Prayer Wall lives in the Community section, either in the app or the website so, check that out.

If you want to partner with the Daily Audio Bible, if this mission that we share together to bring the spoken word of God read fresh every day and offered freely to anyone who will listen, anywhere on this planet, any time of day or night and to build community around that rhythm so, that we know that this isn’t a solitary endeavor that we’re alone on it’s…it’s sharing our lives for a year as we move the Scriptures. If that brings life and good news into your heart and soul in your experience of life then thank you, humbly for your partnership. There is a link on the homepage at dailyaudiobible.com. If you’re using the app, you can press the Give button in the upper right-hand corner or the mailing address is P.O. Box 1996 Springhill, Tennessee 37174.

And as always if you have a prayer request or encouragement, you can hit the Hotline button in the app, that is the little red button up at the top or you can dial 877-942-4253.

And that’s it for today, I’m Brian, I love you and I’ll be waiting for you here tomorrow.

Prayer and Encouragements:

Hi, this is Lisa from Virginia. I’m just calling in for Dave from the UK. Dave, I heard your prayer on the 31st of January on Monday and I usually listen when I’m at the gym in the morning. And your prayer request stopped me, tears just filled my eyes. I too have twin boys that are 18, they actually turned 19 on Thursday, February 3rd. I also have a daughter who is 21 who has seizures since she was 5 months old. So, it was a double whammy. I can understand and relate but not fully understand. Having to see your child in pain all the time that one would really do me in. And then to have your other boy have seizures and unexplained seizures. So, I just reach out. I’ve been praying for you everyday and I’ve been meaning to call in. It’s Saturday, February 5th and I’m finally able to make the call. And I just pray for you and your wife. I understand how much of a toll a special needs child takes on the whole family and I can understand the twin relationship and the guilt that goes with that. So, just know you’re being prayed for from Virginia, for your wife, for your two boys and you said you had a third child as well. I’ll be lifting you all up in my prayers, I pray for comfort for your son the cerebral palsy, I pray for relief from the seizures and a stop to them for your other son. And I pray for your wife and you that you find some rest and some wisdom to know how to deal with this. Like us, the parents are really more the expert than the doctors when it comes to your child. So, I hope you find some answers for both of your boys. You’re in my prayers.

Good morning DAB family, God bless you all. Three months ago I started to experience some sort of anxiety and fear again, over my daughter Sarah. And the dark places that her mind wanders to and I having lived a life of the wilderness and being in those dark places, that’s exactly what I started to revert myself as her mom, fearing for her and her life. And I started to realize just this week, that you know, I was set free from that, I’m a new creation in Christ and those dark places will keep me trapped there with the enemy. And I wasn’t allowing God to just continue to work in my life and therefore hindering Him from working in Sarah’s life cause of my fear, my unbelief’s. So, I just want to share with those people who are in that wilderness right now, who feel like you know, you have been delivered but then you revert back to those dark places because that’s all you’ve ever known your entire life, like I did. God is with you, God is with us you know, He is with the people we love and we have to stay strong, we can’t believe the lies of the enemy. He is a liar, he is the father of lies and that is what we know of him. We have to be able to discern God’s voice and I’ve been doing very poorly of that this past week especially. But, thank God my Aaron’s and my Herr’s that I was able to reach out to in the name of our Jesus Christ, to hold me up when I was too weak to do that my own. And I am praying for each of you who are in that wilderness to reach out to your Aaron’s and your Herr’s because we need each other. We can not do this alone. I love you all, Esther from Haines City.

Hello family this is Biola from Maryland. Brian and Jill, God bless you. Lord, bless your ministries. I’m calling for Jackie from Canada. Sister, you had said that you doubted even those that are His, you are going through a season in your life where everything seems hopeless. You were wondering if your calls are being played. Well, Biola from Maryland heard you and I’m calling your name, Jackie from Canada. And I just want to encourage you sister. You’re in a season in your life where you don’t understand what is going on but God is for you, God is working, God sees you. The word of God says that God is Jerova El Roi. I you remember, that name came about when Hagar the maiden of Sarah, was chased out by Sarah after she gave birth to her son. But God sees her, God actually sent an angel to help her. Now sister, let me tell you, you might be in the winter of your life right now. When it’s winter, it’s cold and hard and difficult bu that doesn’t mean something great is not going on. We see what is going on in the winter when spring comes and we see all the flowers spring forth. So, sister hold on to God. Psalm 25:3 says that those who hope in Him can never be disgraced. If all else fails, sister, you don’t know what else to do. You said the only thing you have left is prayer, prayer is powerful. Praise is also powerful, Psalm 2, just keep praising God. Praise God for where you are right now even though you don’t feel like it. And I’m trusting God that you will get a break through. Prodigal Princess, God bless you, what a testimony. May God make your testimony permanent. The brother who called who says that he was a pastor and is trying to get a job, I pray that God will also give you a breakthrough. In Jesus name, God Bless you.

Good morning Daily Audio Bible this is Dr. Kinayah from London. I pray all of you are well. I wanted to call in to pray for Maryland who said that she’s in a dry place in her walk with God and likened it to being in the wilderness and I just want to pray over you this word of encouragement that God’s love for you and for all of us, endures our driest season. His love is not scared of those times but in fact He permeates you and surrounds you with His presence. And I pray that even in the dry season, even in the wilderness you will know more of God and you’ll become you know, refreshed in His presence, that you will no longer feel dry, in fact you’ll feel watered because you are a child of God and He loves you even in those dry seasons. He is that pillar of cloud that guides you and I pray that over you. I also want to say thank you to Brian, your word this morning, little-by-little is what I needed to hear as I’m concluding the first part of my thesis and my doctorate. It is literally little-by-little, word-by-word, day-by-day, step-by-step. And I pray that over our entire community that we will continue to preserver and we’ll take each step forward with God who will lovingly give us the next one. God bless you all.

Hi, this is Ivy from Missouri. Brian, I just really enjoyed the message today. I guess the main words that I’m hearing and I need to keep hearing is little-by-little. I’ll admit I’m just feeling very overwhelmed with thinking that I need to do so much and get it all done and I know that that’s not what God wants me to do. I’m just coming upon the two-year anniversary of my husband’s death and I still have a whole room of clothes and belongings to him. I know I need to get to it, but maybe not all at once or like you said, little by little. Everything in my life just seems to be so overwhelming. I’m praying for all of you guys and every time I hear your prayer request I life you up. And I guess I’m asking the same thing, just we need to keep each other up and help us get by doing little by little and definitely focusing on You Lord. Help me to focus, I just feel like I’m either feeling depressed or lonely. I don’t know but I know you’re there. I just need to learn to do what I need to do little by little and to stay focused. I love you all, in His grip. Amen.
