Numbers 6:1-7:89, Mark 12:38-13:13, Psalms 49:1-20, Proverbs 10:27-28

Today is the 6th day of March, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I’m Brian here in the rolling hills of Tennessee and I’m glad that we live when we do, because no matter where you are, no matter what hills or valleys or plains you are…you live in, no matter what continent you’re on, no matter how many oceans away from the rolling hills of Tennessee you are we still can all come around this global campfire and move through the Bible together and be community together and know that we’re never alone. And that is a beautiful, beautiful thing. So, it’s wonderful to be here with you today as we take that next step forward. And we’re working our way through the book of Numbers. And, again, you know, we talked about this in Leviticus, you know, we’re reading an accounting of the setup of a culture mixed in with all of the orders about how they will, you know, how they will order themselves as a culture, as a nomadic culture moving around. And, so, we’re sort of getting all that and there’s a lot of numbers in Numbers. We’re doing a lot accounting. And, so, we can just be like, “gosh. Like, how…how many more days before we get through this?” And we will. We will. What’s happening here is the establishment of the Hebrew people. Like, it’s got a lot of detail and some of its narrative. And, so, we’re reading all the stores and we can really lock into those and some of its instruction and some of its commandment and law and statutes, but this is the origin story and this story actually has value and meaning. It’s very, very important. I mean, there’s plenty of things in the Old Testament that are riveting to our hearts, but this part of the story is an important part of the story because all that’s being formed here, this is the context into which Jesus came. Jesus can’t fully be understood with…like decoupled from His Jewishness, without kind of understanding the culture that He’s speaking too, what He’s saying and why He’s saying it and why that’s causing unrest because like we can read Jesus and be like, “who’s got a problem with any of this? Why do they want to kill him?” But without understanding that backdrop of what they’re trying to protect and what they’re trying to hold onto, then it doesn’t make a lot of sense. So, Number’s matters. Yeah, there’s a bunch of numbers but after these numbers after everything gets set up. Everything…after everything is established, we’re gonna be moving out and we’re gonna begin journeying with them toward the Promise land. So today, we’re reading from the English Standard Version this week by the way. Numbers chapters 6 and 7.

Commentary:

Alright. So, in the book of Numbers today we…we read very repetitively all of the different offerings that are being brought from all the tribes so that the altar could be consecrated. It’s not like they had to do this every day. This…this was the consecration of the altar that was built that was the centerpiece of their culture and the tabernacle along with all the…all the other utensils and the most holy place and the holy of holies in the tabernacle. They’re consecrating the altar. So, it’s all recited you know, and all of these numbers because it’s recounted exactly as they were putting it down historically for themselves. And, yeah, it can be a little tedious but then we broke out of that and it was like the altar is consecrated and we came to the most well-known benediction in the Scriptures, perhaps in the world, “the Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord lift his countenance upon you and give you peace.” And according to the Scriptures this puts the name upon the people of Israel, it put the name of God upon them, and God will bless them. A benediction is prayer of blessing. There are many of them in the Bible. The one that I just read to you…you probably have heard it before. It may be pronounced over you in church every Sunday depending on where you go to church, but I want to show you something. So, just…you’re driving, you’re riding on a train, you’re laying in bed, you’re sitting on a chair., whatever you’re doing…whatever you’re doing just try to calm yourself for second. “May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you. May the Lord lift His countenance upon you and give you peace.” Doesn’t that change things. Doesn’t a prayer of blessing spoken over you change the atmosphere. And here…here’s the interesting thing about a prayer of blessing, you can’t pray a prayer of blessing and speak words of cursing at the same person at the same time. If you are blessing them then you are blessing them. I’ve just prayed this prayer of blessing over you. Why don’t you go into your day and pay it forward? Try going through this day and in the encounters that you have, even silently. If you’re going through the grocery store and you’re going through the check-out, and you’ve swiped your card and you’re leaving, if just breathe silently, “may the Lord bless you and keep you.” What if you just went through today blessing everyone. Try it and see what your day looks like. And what about your family? Maybe when we get home from work some cross words are said. There’s all of the fuel for a big fire to ruin the rest of the day. What if you spoke words of blessing instead of cursing? What if just even silently, “the Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord lift his countenance upon you and give you peace.” Those are not fighting words. Those are words of blessing. What about over your children? “The Lord bless you.” Nobody’s stopping you from bringing good into the world. Nobody’s stopping you from being light in the darkness. All we need is to be present and have eyes to see and ears to hear.

Song:

Benediction - Matt Redman

May the Lord bless you and keep you.
May the Lord smile on you,
shine His light upon you.
May the Lord lift you,
turn His face towards you.
Give you His peace,
give you His peace.

May the Lord bless us and keep us.
May the Lord smile on us,
shine His light upon us.
May the Lord lift us,
turn His face towards us.
Give us His peace,
give us His peace.

Blessed we came to this place today
and blessed now we will go.
In the name of the Father,
the Spirit and the Son.
Blessed we came to this place today
and blessed now we will go.
In the name of the Father,
the Spirit and the Son.

Blessed we came to this place today
and blessed now we will go.
In the name of the Father,
the Spirit and the Son.

May the Lord bless us and keep us.
May the Lord smile on us,
shine His light upon us.
May the Lord lift us,
turn His face towards us.
Give us His peace,
give us His peace.
Go now in peace,
go now in peace.

Go now in peace.
And the blessing of our God,
and the blessing of our God.
Go now in peace
and the blessing of our God.

Numbers 6-7

The Nazirite Vow

And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, When either a man or a woman makes a special vow, the vow of (A)a Nazirite,[a] (B)to separate himself to the Lord, he (C)shall separate himself from wine and strong drink. He shall drink no vinegar made from wine or strong drink and shall not drink any juice of grapes or eat grapes, fresh or dried. All the days of his separation[b] he shall eat nothing that is produced by the grapevine, not even the seeds or the skins.

“All the days of his vow of separation, no (D)razor shall touch his head. Until the time is completed for which he separates himself to the Lord, he shall be holy. (E)He shall let the locks of hair of his head grow long.

“All the days that he separates himself to the Lord (F)he shall not go near a dead body. (G)Not even for his father or for his mother, for brother or sister, if they die, shall he make himself unclean, because his separation to God is on his head. All the days of his separation he is holy to the Lord.

“And if any man dies very suddenly beside him and he defiles his consecrated head, then (H)he shall shave his head on the day of his cleansing; on the seventh day he shall shave it. 10 (I)On the eighth day he shall bring two turtledoves or two pigeons to the priest to the entrance of the tent of meeting, 11 and the priest shall offer one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering, and make atonement for him, because he sinned by reason of the dead body. And he shall consecrate his head that same day 12 and separate himself to the Lord for the days of his separation and bring a male lamb a year old (J)for a guilt offering. But the previous period shall be void, because his separation was defiled.

13 “And this is the law for the Nazirite, (K)when the time of his separation has been completed: he shall be brought to the entrance of the tent of meeting, 14 and he shall bring his gift to the Lord, one male lamb a year old without blemish for a burnt offering, and one ewe lamb a year old without blemish (L)as a sin offering, and one ram without blemish (M)as a peace offering, 15 and a basket of unleavened bread, (N)loaves of fine flour mixed with oil, and unleavened wafers smeared with oil, and their (O)grain offering and their (P)drink offerings. 16 And the priest shall bring them before the Lord and offer (Q)his sin offering and his burnt offering, 17 and he shall offer the ram as a sacrifice of peace offering to the Lord, with the basket of unleavened bread. The priest shall offer also its grain offering and its drink offering. 18 And the Nazirite (R)shall shave his consecrated head at the entrance of the tent of meeting and shall take the hair from his consecrated head and put it on the fire that is under the sacrifice of the peace offering. 19 And the priest shall take the (S)shoulder of the ram, when it is boiled, and one unleavened loaf out of the basket and one unleavened wafer, and (T)shall put them on the hands of the Nazirite, after he has shaved the hair of his consecration, 20 and the priest shall wave them for a wave offering before the Lord. (U)They are a holy portion for the priest, together with the breast that is waved and the thigh that is contributed. And after that the Nazirite may drink wine.

21 “This is the law of the Nazirite. But if he vows an offering to the Lord above his Nazirite vow, as he can afford, in exact accordance with the vow that he takes, then he shall do in addition to the law of the Nazirite.”

Aaron's Blessing

22 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 23 “Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, Thus (V)you shall bless the people of Israel: you shall say to them,

24 The Lord (W)bless you and (X)keep you;
25 the Lord (Y)make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;
26 the Lord (Z)lift up his countenance[c] upon you and give you peace.

27 (AA)“So shall they put my name upon the people of Israel, and I will bless them.”

Offerings at the Tabernacle's Consecration

On the day when Moses had finished (AB)setting up the tabernacle and had anointed and (AC)consecrated it with all its furnishings and had anointed and consecrated the altar with all its utensils, (AD)the chiefs of Israel, heads of their fathers' houses, who were the chiefs of the tribes, who were over those who were listed, approached and brought their offerings before the Lord, six wagons and twelve oxen, a wagon for every two of the chiefs, and for each one an ox. They brought them before the tabernacle. Then the Lord said to Moses, “Accept these from them, that they may be used in the service of the tent of meeting, and give them to the Levites, to each man according to his service.” So Moses took the wagons and the oxen and gave them to the Levites. Two wagons and four oxen (AE)he gave to the sons of Gershon, according to their service. And four wagons and eight oxen (AF)he gave to the sons of Merari, according to their service, under the direction of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest. But to the sons of Kohath he gave none, because they were charged with (AG)the service of the holy things that (AH)had to be carried on the shoulder. 10 And the chiefs offered offerings for the (AI)dedication of the altar on the day it was anointed; and the chiefs offered their offering before the altar. 11 And the Lord said to Moses, “They shall offer their offerings, one chief each day, for the dedication of the altar.”

Mark 12:38-13:13

Beware of the Scribes

38 (A)And in his teaching he said, “Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes and like greetings in the marketplaces 39 and have the best seats in the synagogues and (B)the places of honor at feasts, 40 (C)who devour widows' houses and (D)for a pretense make long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.”

The Widow's Offering

41 (E)And he sat down opposite (F)the treasury and watched the people (G)putting money into the offering box. Many rich people put in large sums. 42 And a poor widow came and put in two (H)small copper coins, which make a penny.[a] 43 And he called his disciples to him and said to them, “Truly, I say to you, (I)this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. 44 For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her (J)poverty has put in everything she had, all (K)she had to live on.”

Jesus Foretells Destruction of the Temple

13 (L)And as he came out of the temple, one of his disciples said to him, “Look, Teacher, what wonderful stones and what wonderful buildings!” And Jesus said to him, “Do you see these great buildings? (M)There will not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down.”

Signs of the End of the Age

And as he sat on (N)the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, (O)Peter and James and John and (P)Andrew asked him (Q)privately, “Tell us, (R)when will these things be, and what will be the sign when all these things are about to be accomplished?” And Jesus began to say to them, (S)“See that no one leads you astray. (T)Many will come in my name, saying, (U)‘I am he!’ and they will lead many astray. And when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, (V)do not be alarmed. This (W)must take place, but the end is not yet. For (X)nation will rise against nation, and (Y)kingdom against kingdom. There will be (Z)earthquakes in various places; there will be (AA)famines. These are but the beginning of the birth pains.

(AB)“But (AC)be on your guard. For they will deliver you over to councils, and you will be beaten (AD)in synagogues, and you will stand before (AE)governors and (AF)kings for my sake, (AG)to bear witness before them. 10 And the gospel must first be proclaimed (AH)to all nations. 11 And when they bring you to trial and deliver you over, (AI)do not be anxious beforehand what you are to say, but say (AJ)whatever is given you in that hour, (AK)for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit. 12 (AL)And brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death. 13 (AM)And you will be hated by all for my name's sake. (AN)But the one who endures to the end will be saved.

Psalm 49

Why Should I Fear in Times of Trouble?

To the choirmaster. A Psalm of (A)the Sons of Korah.

49 (B)Hear this, all peoples!
Give ear, all inhabitants of the world,
(C)both low and high,
rich and poor together!
My mouth shall speak (D)wisdom;
the meditation of my heart shall be understanding.
I will incline my ear to (E)a proverb;
I will solve my (F)riddle to the music of the lyre.

(G)Why should I fear in (H)times of trouble,
when the iniquity of those who cheat me surrounds me,
those who (I)trust in their wealth
and boast of the abundance of their riches?
Truly no man (J)can ransom another,
or (K)give to God (L)the price of his life,
for (M)the ransom of their life is costly
and can never suffice,
that he should live on forever
and (N)never see the pit.

10 For he sees (O)that even the wise die;
(P)the fool and the stupid alike must perish
and (Q)leave their wealth to others.
11 Their (R)graves are their homes forever,[a]
their dwelling places (S)to all generations,
though they (T)called lands by their own names.
12 Man in his pomp (U)will not remain;
(V)he is like the beasts that perish.

13 This is the path of those who have (W)foolish confidence;
yet after them people approve of their boasts.[b] Selah
14 Like sheep they are appointed for Sheol;
death shall be their shepherd,
and the upright (X)shall rule over them in the morning.
(Y)Their form shall be consumed (Z)in Sheol, with no place to dwell.
15 But God will (AA)ransom my soul from the power of Sheol,
for he will (AB)receive me. Selah

16 Be not afraid when a man becomes rich,
when the glory of his house increases.
17 (AC)For when he dies he will (AD)carry nothing away;
his glory will not go down after him.
18 For though, while he lives, he counts himself (AE)blessed
—and though you get praise when you do well for yourself—
19 his soul will (AF)go to the generation of his fathers,
who will never again (AG)see light.
20 (AH)Man in his pomp yet without understanding is like the beasts that perish.

Proverbs 10:27-28

27 (A)The fear of the Lord prolongs life,
(B)but the years of the wicked will be short.
28 (C)The hope of the righteous brings joy,
(D)but the expectation of the wicked will perish.

Numbers 4:1-5:31, Mark 12:18-37, Psalms 48:1-14, Proverbs 10:26

Today is the 5th day of March, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I’m Brian it’s great to be here with you today just about back…just about back from this jet lag from our Israel pilgrimage, feeling stronger and stronger every day. I just love it when I’ve like…I’ve turned the corner and my heart, my soul, my spirit, my body, we…we’re pretty much in the same place now which is good and I’m excited to see what's…what is in store for us today in the Scriptures. So, we’re reading from the English Standard Version this week. Numbers, chapters 4 and 5 today.

Commentary:

Okay. So, Jesus is talking to some Sadducees who have come to Him today and the distinction between the Sadducees and the Pharisees was that the Pharisees believed in a resurrection and the Sadducees did not. And we can see that Jesus…Jesus falls on the side of the Pharisees here, completely affirming the resurrection and the ongoing life of the soul. And one of the scribes is listening to all this and he kinda heard this dispute going on. So, he comes to Jesus and is like, “what’s the greatest commandment?” And Jesus recites that, “the Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, with all your strength and you shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Th scribe then responds to Jesus affirming that he and Jesus are in complete agreement about this that and he offers his interpretation. He’s like, “you’ve spoken well. You’re right teacher. You have truly said He is one, there is no other besides Him and to love Him with all the heart and with all the understanding with all the strength and to love one’s neighbor as oneself is much more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices,” right? So, like Jesus never said anything about sacrifices. This is the scribe’s interpretation of the greatest commandment. And a very fascinating thing happens here. When Jesus saw that he answered wisely, He said to him, “you are not far from the kingdom of God.” It was that distinction in interpretation, that add on, that loving God with all that you are is much more than sacrifice. So, like, all that you are is much more to God than anything you could do. So, there we have more clues about what this kingdom of heaven that is within us and among us is like. All your activity that you believe is on behalf of God does not equal a relationship with God. And Jesus response, “you’re not far from the kingdom of God.” In other words, “you are a scribe well educated in your religion, but you seem to have eyes to see, which is fascinating indeed because we’re seeing that we need eyes to see everywhere.

Prayer:

And, so Jesus we thank you for this, for another thing that we’ve learned today about your kingdom, it's…it’s that we give ourselves completely to you. It’s not about what we can do. It’s about how we can offer ourselves completely and holy to you and be completely and wholly available to you. So, come Holy Spirit and allow us the awareness that we need today, the eyes to see today about how we can be available to you by giving ourselves completely to you and to your service. Come Holy Spirit we pray in the name of Jesus we ask. Amen.

Numbers 4-5

Duties of the Kohathites, Gershonites, and Merarites

The Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, “Take a census of the sons of Kohath from among the sons of Levi, by their clans and their fathers' houses, (A)from thirty years old up to fifty years old, all who can come on duty, to do the work in the tent of meeting. This is the service of the sons of Kohath in the tent of meeting: (B)the most holy things. When the camp is to set out, Aaron and his sons shall go in and take down (C)the veil of the screen and cover (D)the ark of the testimony with it. Then they shall put on it a covering of goatskin[a] and spread on top of that a cloth all of blue, and shall put in its (E)poles. And over the (F)table of the bread of the Presence they shall spread a cloth of blue and put on it the plates, the dishes for incense, the bowls, and the flagons for the drink offering; (G)the regular showbread also shall be on it. Then they shall spread over them a cloth of scarlet and cover the same with a covering of goatskin, and shall (H)put in its poles. And they shall take a cloth of blue and cover (I)the lampstand for the light, with its lamps, its tongs, its trays, and all the vessels for oil with which it is supplied. 10 And they shall put it with all its utensils in a covering of goatskin and put it on the carrying frame. 11 And over (J)the golden altar they shall spread a cloth of blue and cover it with a covering of goatskin, and shall put in its poles. 12 And they shall take all (K)the vessels of the service that are used in the sanctuary and put them in a cloth of blue and cover them with a covering of goatskin and put them on the carrying frame. 13 And they shall take away the ashes from the altar and spread a purple cloth over it. 14 And they shall put on it all the utensils of the altar, which are used for the service there, the fire pans, the forks, the shovels, and the basins, all the utensils of the altar; and they shall spread on it a covering of goatskin, and shall put in its poles. 15 And when Aaron and his sons have finished covering the sanctuary and all the furnishings of the sanctuary, as the camp sets out, after that (L)the sons of Kohath shall come to carry these, (M)but they must not touch the holy things, lest they die. These are the things of the tent of meeting that the sons of Kohath are to carry.

16 “And Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest shall have charge of (N)the oil for the light, the (O)fragrant incense, (P)the regular grain offering, and (Q)the anointing oil, with the oversight of the whole tabernacle and all that is in it, of the sanctuary and its vessels.”

17 The Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, 18 “Let not the tribe of the clans of the Kohathites be destroyed from among the Levites, 19 but deal thus with them, that they may live and not die when they come near to (R)the most holy things: Aaron and his sons shall go in and appoint them each to his task and to his burden, 20 (S)but they shall not go in to look on the holy things even for a moment, lest they die.”

21 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 22 “Take a census of the sons of Gershon also, by their fathers' houses and by their clans. 23 (T)From thirty years old up to fifty years old, you shall list them, all who can (U)come to do duty, to do service in the tent of meeting. 24 This is the service of the clans of the Gershonites, in serving and bearing burdens: 25 (V)they shall carry (W)the curtains of the tabernacle and the tent of meeting with (X)its covering and the covering of goatskin that is on top of it and the screen for the entrance of the tent of meeting 26 and the hangings of the court and the screen for the entrance of the gate of the court that is around the tabernacle and the altar, and their cords and all the equipment for their service. And they shall do all that needs to be done with regard to them. 27 All the service of the sons of the Gershonites shall be at the command of Aaron and his sons, in all that they are to carry and in all that they have to do. And you shall assign to their charge all that they are to carry. 28 This is the service of the clans of the sons of the Gershonites in the tent of meeting, and their guard duty is to be (Y)under the direction of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest.

29 “As for the sons of Merari, you shall list them by their clans and their fathers' houses. 30 (Z)From thirty years old up to fifty years old, you shall list them, everyone who can come on duty, to do the service of the tent of meeting. 31 And (AA)this is what they are charged to carry, as the whole of their service in the tent of meeting: the frames of the tabernacle, with its bars, pillars, and bases, 32 and the pillars around the court with their bases, pegs, and cords, with all their equipment and all their accessories. And you shall (AB)list by name the objects that they are required to carry. 33 This is the service of the clans of the sons of Merari, the whole of their service in the tent of meeting, (AC)under the direction of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest.”

34 And Moses and Aaron and the chiefs of the congregation listed the sons of the Kohathites, by their clans and their fathers' houses, 35 (AD)from thirty years old up to fifty years old, everyone who could come on duty, for service in the tent of meeting; 36 and those listed by clans were 2,750. 37 (AE)This was the list of the clans of the Kohathites, all who served in the tent of meeting, whom Moses and Aaron listed according to the commandment of the Lord by Moses.

38 Those listed of the sons of Gershon, by their clans and their fathers' houses, 39 (AF)from thirty years old up to fifty years old, everyone who could come on duty for service in the tent of meeting— 40 those listed by their clans and their fathers' houses were 2,630. 41 (AG)This was the list of the clans of the sons of Gershon, all who served in the tent of meeting, whom Moses and Aaron listed according to the commandment of the Lord.

42 Those listed of the clans of the sons of Merari, by their clans and their fathers' houses, 43 (AH)from thirty years old up to fifty years old, everyone who could come on duty, for service in the tent of meeting— 44 those listed by clans were 3,200. 45 (AI)This was the list of the clans of the sons of Merari, whom Moses and Aaron listed according to the commandment of the Lord by Moses.

46 All those who were listed of the Levites, whom Moses and Aaron and the chiefs of Israel listed, by their clans and their fathers' houses, 47 (AJ)from thirty years old up to fifty years old, everyone who could come to do the service of ministry and the service of bearing burdens in the tent of meeting, 48 those listed were 8,580. 49 According to the commandment of the Lord through Moses they were listed, (AK)each one with his task of serving or carrying. Thus they were listed by him, (AL)as the Lord commanded Moses.

Unclean People

The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Command the people of Israel that they (AM)put out of the camp everyone who is leprous[b] or has (AN)a discharge and everyone who is (AO)unclean through contact with the dead. You shall put out both male and female, putting them outside the camp, that they may not defile their camp, (AP)in the midst of which I dwell.” And the people of Israel did so, and put them outside the camp; as the Lord said to Moses, so the people of Israel did.

Confession and Restitution

And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the people of Israel, (AQ)When a man or woman commits any of the sins that people commit by breaking faith with the Lord, and that person realizes his guilt, (AR)he shall confess his sin that he has committed.[c] (AS)And he shall make full restitution for his wrong, adding a fifth to it and giving it to him to whom he did the wrong. But if the man has no next of kin to whom restitution may be made for the wrong, the restitution for wrong shall go to the Lord for the priest, in addition to (AT)the ram of atonement with which atonement is made for him. And (AU)every contribution, all the holy donations of the people of Israel, which they bring to the priest, shall be his. 10 Each one shall keep his holy donations: whatever anyone gives to the priest shall be his.”

A Test for Adultery

11 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 12 “Speak to the people of Israel, If any man's wife goes astray and breaks faith with him, 13 if a man (AV)lies with her sexually, and it is hidden from the eyes of her husband, and she is undetected though she has defiled herself, and there is no witness against her, (AW)since she was not taken in the act, 14 and if the spirit of jealousy comes over him and he is jealous of his wife who has defiled herself, or if the spirit of jealousy comes over him and he is jealous of his wife, though she has not defiled herself, 15 then the man shall bring his wife to the priest and bring the offering required of her, a tenth of an ephah[d] of barley flour. (AX)He shall pour no oil on it and put no frankincense on it, for it is a grain offering of jealousy, a grain offering of remembrance, (AY)bringing iniquity to remembrance.

16 “And the priest shall bring her near and set her before the Lord. 17 And the priest shall take holy water in an earthenware vessel and take some of the dust that is on the floor of the tabernacle and put it into the water. 18 And the priest shall set the woman before the Lord and (AZ)unbind the hair of the woman's head and place in her hands the grain offering of remembrance, which is the grain offering of jealousy. And in his hand the priest shall have the water of bitterness that brings the curse. 19 Then the priest shall make her take an oath, saying, ‘If no man has lain with you, and if you have not turned aside to uncleanness while you were under your husband's authority, be free from this water of bitterness that brings the curse. 20 But if you have gone astray, though you are under your husband's authority, and if you have defiled yourself, and some man other than your husband has lain with you, 21 then’ (let the priest make the woman take the oath of the curse, and say to the woman) (BA)‘the Lord make you a curse and an oath among your people, when the Lord makes your thigh fall away and your body swell. 22 May this water that brings the curse (BB)pass into your bowels and make your womb swell and your thigh fall away.’ And the woman shall say, (BC)‘Amen, Amen.’

23 “Then the priest shall write these curses in a book and wash them off into the water of bitterness. 24 And he shall make the woman drink the water of bitterness that brings the curse, and the water that brings the curse shall enter into her and cause bitter pain. 25 And the priest shall take the grain offering of jealousy out of the woman's hand (BD)and shall wave the grain offering before the Lord and bring it to the altar. 26 And the priest (BE)shall take a handful of the grain offering, as its memorial portion, and burn it on the altar, and afterward shall make the woman drink the water. 27 And when he has made her drink the water, then, if she has defiled herself and has broken faith with her husband, the water that brings the curse shall enter into her and cause bitter pain, and her womb shall swell, and her thigh shall fall away, and the woman (BF)shall become a curse among her people. 28 But if the woman has not defiled herself and is clean, then she shall be free and shall conceive children.

29 “This is the law in cases of jealousy, when a wife, (BG)though under her husband's authority, goes astray and defiles herself, 30 or when the spirit of jealousy comes over a man and he is jealous of his wife. Then he shall set the woman before the Lord, and the priest shall carry out for her all this law. 31 The man shall be free from iniquity, but the woman (BH)shall bear her iniquity.”

Mark 12:18-37

The Sadducees Ask About the Resurrection

18 And (A)Sadducees came to him, (B)who say that there is no resurrection. And they asked him a question, saying, 19 “Teacher, Moses wrote for us that (C)if a man's brother dies and leaves a wife, but leaves no child, the man[a] must take the widow and raise up offspring for his brother. 20 There were seven brothers; the first took a wife, and when he died left no offspring. 21 And the second took her, and died, leaving no offspring. And the third likewise. 22 And the seven left no offspring. Last of all the woman also died. 23 In the resurrection, when they rise again, whose wife will she be? For the seven had her as wife.”

24 Jesus said to them, “Is this not the reason you are wrong, because (D)you know neither the Scriptures nor (E)the power of God? 25 For when they rise from the dead, they neither (F)marry nor (G)are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. 26 And as for the dead being raised, (H)have you not read in (I)the book of Moses, in (J)the passage about the bush, how God spoke to him, saying, (K)‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? 27 He is not God of the dead, but of the living. You are quite wrong.”

The Great Commandment

28 (L)And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, “Which commandment is the most important of all?” 29 Jesus answered, “The most important is, (M)‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, (N)the Lord is one. 30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 (O)The second is this: (P)‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment (Q)greater than these.” 32 And the scribe said to him, “You are right, Teacher. You have truly said that (R)he is one, and (S)there is no other besides him. 33 And to love him with all the heart and with all (T)the understanding and with all the strength, and to love one's neighbor as oneself, (U)is much more than all (V)whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.” 34 And when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” (W)And after that no one dared to ask him any more questions.

Whose Son Is the Christ?

35 (X)And as (Y)Jesus taught in the temple, he said, “How can the scribes say that (Z)the Christ is the son of David? 36 David himself, (AA)in the Holy Spirit, declared,

(AB)“‘The Lord said to my Lord,
“Sit at my right hand,
until I put your enemies (AC)under your feet.”’

37 David himself calls him Lord. So (AD)how is he his son?” And the great throng (AE)heard him gladly.

Psalm 48

Zion, the City of Our God

A Song. A Psalm of (A)the Sons of Korah.

48 (B)Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised
in (C)the city of our God!
His (D)holy mountain, (E)beautiful in elevation,
is (F)the joy of all the earth,
Mount Zion, in the far north,
(G)the city of the great King.
Within her citadels God
has made himself known as a fortress.

For behold, (H)the kings assembled;
they came on together.
As soon as they saw it, they were astounded;
they were in panic; they took to flight.
(I)Trembling took hold of them there,
anguish (J)as of a woman in labor.
By (K)the east wind you (L)shattered
the ships of (M)Tarshish.
As we have heard, so have we seen
in the city of the Lord of hosts,
in (N)the city of our God,
which God will (O)establish forever. Selah

We have thought on your (P)steadfast love, O God,
in the midst of your temple.
10 As your (Q)name, O God,
so your praise reaches to (R)the ends of the earth.
Your right hand is filled with righteousness.
11 Let Mount (S)Zion be glad!
Let (T)the daughters of Judah rejoice
because of your judgments!

12 Walk about Zion, go around her,
number her towers,
13 consider well her (U)ramparts,
go through her citadels,
(V)that you may tell the next generation
14 that this is God,
our God forever and ever.
He will (W)guide us forever.[a]

Numbers 2:1-3:51, Mark 11:27-12:17, Psalms 47:1-9, Proverbs 10:24-25

Today is the 4th day of March welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I’m Brian it’s great to be here with you today. Feeling a little bit more…a little bit more like myself here moving through the jet lag. And today, at least in my life it’s a mile marker, a milestone marker. Today is my birthday and I’ve stopped celebrating the passing of another year in my life in my biological age. I’m 15 today. This is my 15th Daily Audio Bible birthday. So, watch out. You got a raging teenager going lead you through the rest of this year in the Scriptures, but I'll…I’ll try to act more my biological age than my Daily Audio Bible age. But anyway, it’s a…at least for me, it just marks…I can’t believe it…15 years. Wow! That is…I can’t believe it. But anyway, let’s move into the Scriptures and allow God to speak to us into our day. And, so, we’re reading from the English Standard Version this week. And we’ll read Numbers chapters 2 and 3 today.

Commentary:

Alright. So, in our reading from the Gospel of Mark today Jesus is in Jerusalem, the holy city that we just returned from and He’s walking in the temple complex and it’s like He gets ganged up on because the chief priests, not the minor ones, like the chief priests and the scribes and the elders, they came to Him and…and they’re asking Him, “like, by what…” you know… “like, by what authority are you doing these things? Who gave you the right to do this? And Jesus is like, “I’ll answer that question if you answer one of mine.” And then He asks the question about John, “is he from heaven or is he from man.” So, we can read this and ho like, “Jesus is very astute. He’s very observant. He knows what’s going on. He sees what they’re doing. And, so, He outwits them with this question.” And although that's…that’s true, there’s more that He’s asking, then it might seem, because He’s not just trying to catch them in their own trap or catch them in their own trick. He’s asking a question that would inform, that would reveal their hearts whether or not they have eyes to see and ears to hear. So, he’s like, I’ll answer that question, but…but I’m not gonna answer that question if you don't…if you can't…if you don’t have eyes to see or ears to hear the answer. “So, let me ask you a question? What about John? Was he sent from God or was he just some crazy guy?” And, so, they discuss it and they’re not saying like, “hmmm…let’s truly ponder that question.” They’re trying to figure out the right answer that will keep them protected and safe in their power. Like, so, they’re like, “if we say from heaven then it would be like, why didn’t you believe him? But if we say he was from man then the people are going to freak out because they thought he was a prophet.” And, so, they’re like, “we don’t know.” And, so, Jesus is basically then saying, “you don’t have eyes to see and ears to hear, so I’m not telling you by what authority I do these things.” And then immediately he launched into a parable to illustrate to anyone with eyes to see and ears to hear, especially because He's…He’s there with the chief priests and scribes and the elders. And, so, He’s telling this story for anyone with eyes to see and ears to hear the story of God and man. So, He talks about a beautiful vineyard being cultivated and developed and made right for…for…for growing. And, so, this man who owned the farm then leases the farm to tenant’s, right? These would be the ones in authority. These are the ones Jesus is specifically identifying as these high priests, scribes and elders in this parable. But not just them presently. All the way back. The line of the Levites that were reading about in the book of Numbers. Like, we’ve just zoomed a couple thousand years forward and this is them, at least in office. And He was like, “the time for harvest came and the farmer sent someone to collect and that person got beat. These are the prophetic voices that have been sent all along, calling the people, inviting the people back. But the leaders beat them or killed them or struck them on the head or treated them shamefully until finally, God said, “I’ll send my beloved son. Surely, surely the people of God will respect the son of God. But instead they identified this beloved son and decided, “if we can get rid of Him, we can have it all.” And, so, they killed Him, right? In the story is the story of God and man and the story of redemption. And Jesus concludes poignantly, “what will the owner of the vineyard do?” You know, like “after all that’s happened, after they’ve beat up servants, killed servants, and killed his son, what’s he gonna do? He will come and destroy the tenants”, right? And the tenant’s in this story is aimed at the people Jesus is talking to, these religious elite people who are so entrenched in their tradition and so accustomed to their power that they do not have eyes to see or ears to hear. In so many ways this parable is like an invitation to the chief leaders to open their eyes to what they are not seeing, the kingdom of heaven in the world. And just like the parable goes, they left there and plotted. They’re gonna arrest Jesus and get Him out of circulation. So, if there is one thing that we should be beginning to see fairly clearly as we move through the Gospels, this kingdom is here, it is happening, it is moving forward, it will reach its fullness, but it can go completely undetected if you don’t have eyes to see and ears to hear, which is why in part we’re spending this year with this word that we’re just simmering on all year, this word “vision”. We also have a word, “settle”. But this word, “vision”, is a specific kind. It’s eyes to see the kingdom at work in this world and our place in it. May we not be deeply religious people who are completely aligned.

Prayer:

Jesus, we invite You into that. We way ask again for her eyes to be opened. We may be asking this many many, many, many, more times all year long to keep it on our radar to understand that it’s available. We can open our eyes. We just have to look around and stop looking for everything that’s challenging us or everything that’s bad. We have to look for that which is holding back the darkness. That’s the kingdom. And when we see light poking out of the darkness no matter where it’s coming from, we need to recognize it. We need to take Your words to be true. Those who are not against us are for us. Wherever light is peeking out, no matter where it’s coming from, may we recognize Your kingdom at work in this world. Come Holy Spirit into this we pray. In the mighty name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.

Numbers 2-3

Arrangement of the Camp

The Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, (A)“The people of Israel shall camp each by his own standard, with the banners of their fathers' houses. They shall camp facing the tent of meeting on every side. Those to camp on the east side toward the sunrise shall be of the standard of the camp of Judah by their companies, the chief of the people of Judah being (B)Nahshon the son of Amminadab, his company as listed being 74,600. Those to camp next to him shall be the tribe of Issachar, the chief of the people of Issachar being Nethanel the son of Zuar, his company as listed being 54,400. Then the tribe of Zebulun, the chief of the people of Zebulun being Eliab the son of Helon, his company as listed being 57,400. All those listed of the camp of Judah, by their companies, were 186,400. (C)They shall set out first on the march.

10 “On the south side shall be the standard of the camp of Reuben by their companies, the chief of the people of Reuben being Elizur the son of Shedeur, 11 his company as listed being 46,500. 12 And those to camp next to him shall be the tribe of Simeon, the chief of the people of Simeon being Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai, 13 his company as listed being 59,300. 14 Then the tribe of Gad, the chief of the people of Gad being Eliasaph the son of (D)Reuel, 15 his company as listed being 45,650. 16 All those listed of the camp of Reuben, by their companies, were 151,450. (E)They shall set out second.

17 (F)“Then the tent of meeting shall set out, with the camp of the Levites in the midst of the camps; as they camp, so shall they set out, each in position, standard by standard.

18 “On the west side shall be the standard of the camp of Ephraim by their companies, the chief of the people of Ephraim being Elishama the son of Ammihud, 19 his company as listed being 40,500. 20 And next to him shall be the tribe of Manasseh, the chief of the people of Manasseh being Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur, 21 his company as listed being 32,200. 22 Then the tribe of Benjamin, the chief of the people of Benjamin being Abidan the son of Gideoni, 23 his company as listed being 35,400. 24 All those listed of the camp of Ephraim, by their companies, were 108,100. (G)They shall set out third on the march.

25 “On the north side shall be the standard of the camp of Dan by their companies, the chief of the people of Dan being Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai, 26 his company as listed being 62,700. 27 And those to camp next to him shall be the tribe of Asher, the chief of the people of Asher being Pagiel the son of Ochran, 28 his company as listed being 41,500. 29 Then the tribe of Naphtali, the chief of the people of Naphtali being Ahira the son of Enan, 30 his company as listed being 53,400. 31 All those listed of the camp of Dan were 157,600. (H)They shall set out last, standard by standard.”

32 These are the people of Israel as listed by their fathers' houses. All those listed in the camps by their companies were (I)603,550. 33 But (J)the Levites were not listed among the people of Israel, as the Lord commanded Moses.

34 Thus did the people of Israel. According to all that the Lord commanded Moses, (K)so they camped by their standards, and so they set out, each one in his clan, according to his fathers' house.

The Sons of Aaron

These are the generations of Aaron and Moses at the time when the Lord spoke with Moses on Mount Sinai. These are the names of the sons of Aaron: (L)Nadab the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. These are the names of the sons of Aaron, (M)the anointed priests, (N)whom he ordained to serve as priests. (O)But Nadab and Abihu died before the Lord when they offered unauthorized fire before the Lord in the wilderness of Sinai, and they had no children. So Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests in the lifetime of Aaron their father.

Duties of the Levites

And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, (P)“Bring the tribe of Levi near, and set them before Aaron the priest, that they may minister to him. They shall keep guard over him and over the whole congregation before the tent of meeting, (Q)as they minister at the tabernacle. They shall guard all the furnishings of the tent of meeting, and keep guard over the people of Israel as they minister at the tabernacle. And (R)you shall give the Levites to Aaron and his sons; they are (S)wholly given to him from among the people of Israel. 10 And you shall appoint Aaron and his sons, and (T)they shall guard their priesthood. But if (U)any outsider comes near, he shall be put to death.”

11 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 12 “Behold, (V)I have taken the Levites from among the people of Israel instead of every firstborn who opens the womb among the people of Israel. The Levites shall be mine, 13 for (W)all the firstborn are mine. (X)On the day that I struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, I consecrated for my own all the firstborn in Israel, both of man and of beast. They shall be mine: I am the Lord.”

14 And the Lord spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, saying, 15 “List the sons of Levi, by fathers' houses and by clans; (Y)every male from a month old and upward you shall list.” 16 So Moses listed them according to the word of the Lord, as he was commanded. 17 (Z)And these were the sons of Levi by their names: Gershon and Kohath and Merari. 18 And these are the names of the sons of Gershon by their clans: (AA)Libni and Shimei. 19 And the sons of Kohath by their clans: (AB)Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel. 20 And the sons of Merari by their clans: (AC)Mahli and Mushi. These are the clans of the Levites, by their fathers' houses.

21 To Gershon belonged the clan of the Libnites and the clan of the Shimeites; these were the clans of the Gershonites. 22 Their listing according to the number of all the males from a month old and upward was[a] 7,500. 23 (AD)The clans of the Gershonites were to camp behind the tabernacle on the west, 24 with Eliasaph, the son of Lael as chief of the fathers' house of the Gershonites. 25 And the (AE)guard duty of the sons of Gershon in the tent of meeting involved (AF)the tabernacle, (AG)the tent with (AH)its covering, (AI)the screen for the entrance of the tent of meeting, 26 (AJ)the hangings of the court, (AK)the screen for the door of the court that is around the tabernacle and the altar, and (AL)its cords—all the service connected with these.

27 To Kohath belonged the clan of the (AM)Amramites and the clan of the Izharites and the clan of the Hebronites and the clan of the Uzzielites; these are the clans of the Kohathites. 28 According to the number of all the males, from a month old and upward, there were 8,600, keeping guard over the sanctuary. 29 The clans of the sons of Kohath were to camp on the south side of the tabernacle, 30 with (AN)Elizaphan the son of Uzziel as chief of the fathers' house of the clans of the Kohathites. 31 And their guard duty involved (AO)the ark, (AP)the table, (AQ)the lampstand, (AR)the altars, the vessels of the sanctuary with which the priests minister, and (AS)the screen; all the service connected with these. 32 And Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest was to be chief over the chiefs of the Levites, and to have oversight of those who kept guard over the sanctuary.

33 To Merari belonged the clan of the Mahlites and the clan of the Mushites: these are the clans of Merari. 34 Their listing according to the number of all the males from a month old and upward was 6,200. 35 And the chief of the fathers' house of the clans of Merari was Zuriel the son of Abihail. They were to camp on the north side of the tabernacle. 36 (AT)And the appointed guard duty of the sons of Merari involved the (AU)frames of the tabernacle, (AV)the bars, (AW)the pillars, the bases, and all their accessories; all the service connected with these; 37 also (AX)the pillars around the court, with their bases and (AY)pegs and (AZ)cords.

38 Those who were to camp before the tabernacle on the east, before the tent of meeting toward the sunrise, were Moses and Aaron and his sons, (BA)guarding the sanctuary itself, to protect[b] the people of Israel. And any outsider who came near was to be put to death. 39 All those listed among the Levites, whom Moses and Aaron listed at the commandment of the Lord, by clans, all the males from a month old and upward, were (BB)22,000.

Redemption of the Firstborn

40 And the Lord said to Moses, “List all the firstborn males of the people of Israel, from a month old and upward, taking the number of their names. 41 (BC)And you shall take the Levites for me—I am the Lord—instead of all the firstborn among the people of Israel, and the cattle of the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the cattle of the people of Israel.” 42 So Moses listed all the firstborn among the people of Israel, as the Lord commanded him. 43 And all the firstborn males, according to the number of names, from a month old and upward as listed were 22,273.

44 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 45 (BD)“Take the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the people of Israel, and the cattle of the Levites instead of their cattle. The Levites shall be mine: I am the Lord. 46 And (BE)as the redemption price for the 273 of the firstborn of the people of Israel, over and above the number of the male Levites, 47 you shall take (BF)five shekels[c] per head; you shall take them according to (BG)the shekel of the sanctuary (the shekel of twenty gerahs[d]), 48 and give the money to Aaron and his sons as the redemption price for those who are over.” 49 So Moses took the redemption money from those who were over and above those redeemed by the Levites. 50 From the firstborn of the people of Israel he took the money, (BH)1,365 shekels, by the shekel of the sanctuary. 51 And Moses (BI)gave the redemption money to Aaron and his sons, according to the word of the Lord, as the Lord commanded Moses.

The Authority of Jesus Challenged

27 (A)And they came again to Jerusalem. And as he was walking in the temple, the chief priests and the scribes and the elders came to him, 28 and they said to him, (B)“By what authority are you doing these things, or who gave you this authority to do them?” 29 Jesus said to them, “I will ask you one question; answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things. 30 Was the baptism of John (C)from heaven or from man? Answer me.” 31 And they discussed it with one another, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say, (D)‘Why then did you not believe him?’ 32 But shall we say, ‘From man’?”—(E)they were afraid of the people, for they all held that John really was (F)a prophet. 33 So they answered Jesus, “We do not know.” And Jesus said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”

The Parable of the Tenants

12 (G)And he began to speak to them in parables. “A man planted (H)a vineyard (I)and put a fence around it and dug a pit for the winepress and built a tower, and (J)leased it to tenants and (K)went into another country. When the season came, he sent a servant[a] to the tenants to get from them some of the fruit of the vineyard. (L)And they took him and beat him and sent him away empty-handed. (M)Again (N)he sent to them another servant, and (O)they struck him on the head and (P)treated him shamefully. (Q)And he sent another, and him they killed. And so with many others: some they beat, and some they killed. He had still one other, (R)a beloved son. (S)Finally he sent him to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ But those tenants said to one another, (T)‘This is the heir. Come, (U)let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’ And they took him and killed him and (V)threw him out of the vineyard. What will the owner of the vineyard do? (W)He will (X)come and destroy the tenants and (Y)give the vineyard to others. 10 (Z)Have you not read (AA)this Scripture:

(AB)“‘The stone that the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone;[b]
11 this was the Lord's doing,
and it is marvelous in our eyes’?”

12 And (AC)they were seeking to arrest him (AD)but feared the people, for they perceived that he had told the parable against them. So they (AE)left him and went away.

Paying Taxes to Caesar

13 (AF)And they sent to him some of (AG)the Pharisees and some of (AH)the Herodians, to (AI)trap him in his talk. 14 And they came and said to him, “Teacher, (AJ)we know that you are true and do not care about anyone's opinion. For (AK)you are not swayed by appearances,[c] but truly teach (AL)the way of God. Is it lawful to pay (AM)taxes to (AN)Caesar, or not? Should we pay them, or should we not?” 15 But, knowing (AO)their hypocrisy, he said to them, “Why (AP)put me to the test? Bring me (AQ)a denarius[d] and let me look at it.” 16 And they brought one. And he said to them, “Whose likeness and inscription is this?” They said to him, “Caesar's.” 17 Jesus said to them, (AR)“Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's.” And they marveled at him.

Psalm 47

God Is King over All the Earth

To the choirmaster. A Psalm of (A)the Sons of Korah.

47 (B)Clap your hands, all peoples!
(C)Shout to God with loud songs of joy!
For the Lord, the Most High, (D)is to be feared,
(E)a great king over all the earth.
He (F)subdued peoples under us,
and nations under our feet.
He chose our (G)heritage for us,
(H)the pride of Jacob whom he loves. Selah

God (I)has gone up with a shout,
the Lord with the sound of a trumpet.
Sing praises to God, sing praises!
Sing praises to our King, sing praises!
For God is (J)the King of all the earth;
sing praises (K)with a psalm![a]

God (L)reigns over the nations;
God sits on his holy throne.
(M)The princes of the peoples gather
as the people of the God of Abraham.
For (N)the shields of the earth belong to God;
he is highly exalted!

Leviticus 27:14- Numbers 1:54, Mark 11:1-26, Psalms 46:1-11, Proverbs 10:23

Today is the 3rd day of March welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I’m Brian and I’m faking like I’m not tired. But safely back in the rolling hills of Tennessee. So, good to be home. But, yeah, you leave parts of yourself behind…like things have to catch up. And, so, jet lag can be so disorienting. But right now these hours are a good time. So, it’s great to be here with you and to move forward in the Scriptures. And today we will conclude the book of Leviticus, and I then we will begin the book of Numbers and we’ll talk about that we get there. But first, Leviticus 27 verse 14 through 34.

Introduction to the book of Numbers:

Okay. So, that concludes the book of Leviticus, which brings us to the opening pages of the book of Numbers. And as we go into the book of Numbers we’ll encounter like review and it might feel redundant. It might be like, “haven’t we just…like didn’t we hear this already?” And, so, that can be tedious, but there’s something going on underneath this that’s important because we’re now switching from the first generation of…of Hebrew slaves that came out of Egypt and moving toward an emerging generation of people. And much…much has happened under Moses leadership. So, they’ve seen God show up miraculously in their midst and His…His mighty power is among them, and then they received the law, but now they have to actually live the law because…because God’s giving the order. It’s time to move out. It’s time for them to move into the Promise Land. Like now they have the law, now they’ve established themselves, now it’s go time. It’s time to go to the Promise Land. And, so, we we’ll see in the book of Numbers, spies that are sent into the land and kind of get this first glimpse of what this land of promise might look like. And we’ll also watch…watch this generation completely disqualify themselves from the promise. And there’s plenty of parallels for our lives. So, let's…let’s just dive in to the third book of the Old Testament, the book of Numbers chapter 1.

Commentary:

Okay. In the book of Mark, Jesus has entered Jerusalem. This is His final visit. This…He has not been arrested yet, but we’re in that story. An it’s so weird because it’s like just a couple days ago…just a couple days ago we were like walking the path that we were reading out of the gospel of Mark. So, it’s like immediately poignant…poignant to me in spite of being jetlagged and everything. It’s like very, very immediate. And one thing I want to point out as we’re going through the story this time is the cleansing of the temple. And we can make a theological statement about the cleansing of the temple but let’s just make a practical statement about cleansing the temple. Let’s just imagine what’s happening here because a lot of times we can read through these stories…like when I read them…I’ve heard this story of Jesus…I mean this is a flannel board Sunday school story for me. And, so, I always thought like, “of course, Jesus, you know, he would, you know, tip over the money changers. Like, of course He would cleanse the temple, and everybody should get on board and there’s no problem.” Now on the flannel boards it was always like a really small thing. You know, like he let some birds go and he tipped over a table with coins and they fell out on the ground. It was like a small thing. That’s not the story. So, like…and I’m thinking like, “what kind…how could we do this?” Let’s picture…let’s picture our local courthouse, okay? And if we’re in a big city, then there’s probably like a, you know, a larger courthouse made out of stone and there’s big stairs and you go up into it and these are the halls of justice. And maybe your famous, maybe you’re not. Maybe if…maybe people…you’re well-known. Jesus had become well known. So, maybe you’re kind of well-known, but you don’t go to that courthouse to stand outside on the sidewalk with a sign as you’re permitted to do because you have a disagreement with a case or with the justice system or whatever. Your protesting, which is your right but instead you actually walk up those stairs, go in, go through security, go in and start disrupting inside in the different courtrooms, you start throwing things around and you start yelling, “this is all corrupt. This whole system is not what it was intended to be.” Like you’re saying these things and you’re throwing things around. That’s kind of similar to the scenario we have going here. So, it’s almost as if Jesus is provoking this. Doing what I just said in a courthouse would have you more than arrested, more than quickly. What Jesus was doing would have been considered vandalism at best and profaning the temple. So, things that would get Him arrested and it’s like He almost purposely pulled the last straw because at this point, they are determined to destroy Jesus.

Prayer:

Jesus, we thank You for the opportunity as we read through the Scriptures that we can encounter this story a number of times and see it from a number of perspectives and explore it thoroughly because this is the story of why we are here and why there is hope. And, so, we thank You for allowing us to just peer into the story and have context and be able to visualize it and we ask that You open the eyes of our heart. Give us eyes to see we ask in Your precious name. Amen.

Announcements:

dailyaudiobible.com is the website, its home base, it’s where you find out what’s going on around here.

What is going on around here? I don’t know. What’s going on around here is I’m trying to figure out where I’m at. That’s how jet lag works. Every year I get back I know I’m back. Everything looks like how I left it. It’s…it’s my house. Like it's…this is…this is where I live, but it also feels foreign because I’ve been on such a…such a journey that has some much emotion and heart locked into it that it’s almost as if part of me is still there taking the next flight and all of me has not assembled yet. That takes a couple of days to kinda get switched back over and start feeling like your feet are on the ground again. I doubt that I am the only one who has ever experienced this. I doubt that I’m the only one experiencing this now for all of us who have…or who are returning from our pilgrimage to Israel. So, hang in there. I’ve done this a lot of times. It gets better. It just takes a couple of days. Take it easy. It’s fascinating how much got poured into us, how much knowledge and how much heart, just how much we were rooted in that story. And it’s just way, way, way, way, way too much to comprehend. And I said all that at the beginning of the journey when we are having our opening dinner. And it’s just way, way…but it’s all there. Like all the experiences that we have and all things that we see, we may not be able to consciously bring them up but they’re there. And over the next month’s they’ll just continue to seep into our lives and keep informing us so. It’s good, good, good to be home and that’s kind of what’s going on around here. So, thank you for your prayers as we make this transition back.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Dear heavenly Father I just want to come to You today Lord and lift up all the stay at home parents, the moms the dads the grandparents Lord that stay at home with her children. God, I pray right now that You would give them extra energy Lord extra comfort. God, I know it times it…it feels for…for me I feel isolated or lonely Lord Jesus like no one understands but God I know that’s just the enemy. And God I pray right now if there’s anyone that feels like that, that stays at home with their kids on a consistent basis Lord that You would uplift them, that You would know that what they are doing matters Lord, that they are sowing seeds into the next generations coming up behind them. God, I ask that You would drown out the noise of the enemy, that they would know that they are precious in Your sight Lord Jesus, what they are doing. God these children are such a precious gift from You. Lord You say in Your word that children are gifts from the Lord. And God I believe that, and I thank You. Thank You from my children Lord. Thank You for all these other DAB family members Lord who get to pour into their kids every day. Thank You Lord that I get to see them throughout the day, for the ones I get to send them off to school, for the ones that come home from school, I’m here and I thank You that is a privilege I don’t take lightly. But God I know sometimes I feel so by myself God. So, fill me today, fill others today. For those who are struggling Lord Jesus just give them a new fresh awakening, a fresh touch from You. May Your Holy Spirit overflow in their lives and the joy of the Lord be upon them. We pray all these things in Jesus’ name we pray. Amen. Truly Thankful Taylor from the DFW Metroplex. Good morning this is Wanda Manning from Kansas City. I guess you could call me Sword for the Lord from KC. I just wanted to tell Michael Davis that I got your message this morning. I’m listening to the 23rd so I’m about a day behind but I wanted to let you know how encouraging it was to hear from you and hear how well you and your brother are doing. And I’m so grateful to God that your auntie and your cousin are taking great care of you guys. Man what a voice of encouragement to come across the virtual lines this morning because to hear from you I’m sure just like myself you have encouraged so many others with just the…the joy that’s in your voice and just to hear that you’re pressing forward and that you’re continuing to believe God for all His goodness and all His great grace and mercy for you and your family. So, I’m just so encouraged by your call this morning, so encouraged by your words this morning and so thankful that you chose to share with us again an update on how you and your brother are doing. I’ll continue to keep you guys lifted up in prayer. Thank you again for sharing. Sword for the Lord in KC. Bye for now.

Hey family it’s Jesse in Washington. I’ve been meaning to call for a week or so. I need prayers from my marriage. It’s just been so hard the last few months and it’s like the more blessings we get the harder our relationships…our relationship gets. And it’s clearly, you know, a spiritual attack, but I just wish there was a break from it, you know. It’s just…it seems like it’s one thing after another and getting so burnt out on my efforts bearing so little fruit. And I know that’s the game but it’s super frustrating. I’m…I’m tired of feeling lonely. I’m tired of not having anyone to talk to or no one that will listen to me. I just have this like weight on my heart and I don’t know what to do. I mean, keep moving forward obviously. It just doesn’t seem like it gets easier. It seems like every time we make progress it just steps that bar up and now, we have to fight even harder. And I guess maybe that’s part of…part of the game too but it’s just hard. I’m tired of my heart feeling so heavy, you know? And I’m tired of apologizing for…I guess perceived wrongs or putting myself in the grave for other people’s offenses. And I…I…I’m not perfect at all. I’m just…it’s getting…

Hi DAB family it’s Carla from Las Vegas. I am driving around in Las Vegas today and listening to the community prayer from last Saturday and wanted to pray for a few people. Carrie from Utah I heard your request for prayers about your marriage. I am praying for your marriage. Dustin you were leaving the hospital, you’re in pain. I am praying for you my brother. Arielle, I heard lots of prayers for you and I just want you to know that I joined everybody in praying for you. Harold, I was hooping it up when I heard you praying for other people because we’ve been praying for you and the gift goes on. His little Cherry from Canada, yes, you have been missed. I actually remember the mud pie story and I actually remember what I was doing when I heard your initial call about the mud pie. I was mowing my lawn with my earbuds in. So, yes, you are somebody that’s very precious to our community. Praying for the Israel trip. I’m watching all the pictures you’re posting and I’m thankful for all of those. Michael, thank you for calling in to let us know how you and Elijah are doing. You continue to be in my players. Charisse, I am still praying for you. I pray that you are out of the hospital now and with your children. Julie, thank you…Julie from Texas thank you for calling about the twins being home and healed. Thank you, Jesus. I’m asking for prayer. I’m still looking for a job. I’m actually on my way to a job interview right now. I have started dating my ex-husband. He’s pretty sick. And, so, I’m asking for healing for him. It’s chronic illness and…and it’s been ongoing. So, it’s…it’s kind of all-consuming. I am leaving tomorrow to go visit my granddaughter in Colorado. She’s five months old. I can’t wait. And just a reminder that Lent is…Lent starts today and it’s a season where we, leading up to Easter, where we can love more and more deeply. I love you all. Have a great day. Bye.

Hi family this is Terry from Southern California. Today I was listening to the podcast and I heard Tina, a brand-new listener and she was calling to just let everybody know that she’s enjoying the podcast and that she’s also found a little church and how she didn’t grow up, you know, with the word of God. And, you know, Tina when you are talking you kind of reminded me of myself. I’m much older than you are now, I’m in my 50s but I too didn’t get to know the Lord until I was in my 20s. And _ the church at all and I’ve been on this journey now for over 30 years…about 30 years. And, so, I just want to just applaud you and just say a blessing over you that you have made the best choice ever and that you just continue on this pathway. I used to say if I could __ ride that Disney land used to offer but it will be an adventure, it will just help out some rocky places but the most beautiful thing about it is you won’t go it alone knowing that you’ll have the DABber family, you’ll have the church family and you will have people praying for you all the time. And I just want to encourage you Tina to stay on the journey, never take your hand out of God’s unchanging hand. I’m so grateful that God changes not. He’s the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. And, so, God bless you and we will be lifting you up in prayer. Thank you for calling in. I look forward to hearing your…your praise reports and your prayer requests as well. And to all the DABber family, always know I’m lifting everybody up in prayer. Continue to lift by family up in prayers too. I have teenagers and as you guys know I trade off __ and I continue to put him on the altar because, you know, he’s a young man making…

Hey DAB family Broken Tony here, here with my beautiful wife __ . You want to say hi? Hi everyone. We just wanted to call in and say thank you for everyone for all the prayers that you prayed and to give thanks to God right where it belongs for the healings that He’s bringing to our family and the blessings that He brings to our family. Want to…just be so grateful for the DAB family. Listen, call in. If you haven’t called in, call in when you have a need. Get on the DAB friends on Facebook. Put your needs down. You have an incredible community, one of the greatest church communities that exists out there. Use it, that’s wat we’re here for. Prayers work. It worked for us. Guys, we love you so much. Thanks again.

Good morning DABber’s it is 4 AM in Florida this is Florida Charlie Oscar Poppa giving a hello. I’m reaching out to the DABber family because I need prayer. I need prayer for my family, prayer for my parents and my siblings. Some days you try to, I guess, kinda do everything on our own and try to help and do as much as you can to help your family members and do things right but it’s just some days it gets too much. So, if you guys just could keep me in prayer. I’m here right now working, getting ready to get off shift. Had a busy night. And also, if you could keep the law enforcement family in prayer. These…these…these cities really need Jesus. When you go out and about and you patrol your area and see the hardships that people are going through, the demonic strongholds, it really takes a toll on you. But I know God is faithful. And, so, just keep me in prayer, keep my family in prayer and pray for our nation. Thank you. Love you all. Look forward to hearing you all on the prayer line. God bless. Bye-bye.

The Daily Audio Bible Reading for Tuesday March 3, 2020 (NIV)

Leviticus 27:14 - Numbers 1:54

14 “When a man dedicates his house as a holy gift to the Lord, the priest shall value it as either good or bad; as the priest values it, so it shall stand. 15 (A)And if the donor wishes to redeem his house, he shall add a (B)fifth to the valuation price, and it shall be his.

16 “If a man dedicates to the Lord part of the land that is his possession, then the valuation shall be in proportion to its seed. A homer[a] of barley seed shall be valued at fifty shekels of silver. 17 If he dedicates his field from the year of jubilee, the valuation shall stand, 18 but if he dedicates his field after the jubilee, then the priest shall (C)calculate the price according to the years that remain until the year of jubilee, and a deduction shall be made from the valuation. 19 (D)And if he who dedicates the field wishes to redeem it, then he shall add a (E)fifth to its valuation price, and it shall remain his. 20 But if he does not wish to redeem the field, or if he has sold the field to another man, it shall not be redeemed anymore. 21 But the field, (F)when it is released in the jubilee, shall be a holy gift to the Lord, like a field that has been (G)devoted. The priest shall be in (H)possession of it. 22 If he dedicates to the Lord a field that he has bought, (I)which is not a part of his possession, 23 (J)then the priest shall calculate the amount of the valuation for it up to the year of jubilee, and the man shall give the valuation on that day as a holy gift to the Lord. 24 (K)In the year of jubilee the field shall return to him from whom it was bought, to whom the land belongs as a possession. 25 Every valuation shall be according to (L)the shekel of the sanctuary: (M)twenty gerahs[b] shall make a shekel.

26 “But a (N)firstborn of animals, which as a firstborn belongs to the Lord, no man may dedicate; whether ox or sheep, it is the Lord's. 27 And if it is an unclean animal, then he shall buy it back at the valuation, (O)and add a fifth to it; or, if it is not redeemed, it shall be sold at the valuation.

28 “But (P)no devoted thing that a man devotes to the Lord, of anything that he has, whether man or beast, or of his inherited field, shall be sold or redeemed; every devoted thing is most holy to the Lord. 29 (Q)No one devoted, who is to be devoted for destruction[c] from mankind, shall be ransomed; he shall surely be put to death.

30 (R)“Every tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the trees, is the Lord's; it is holy to the Lord. 31 If a man wishes to redeem some of his tithe, he shall add a fifth to it. 32 And every tithe of herds and flocks, every tenth animal of all that (S)pass under the herdsman's staff, shall be holy to the Lord. 33 One shall not differentiate between good or bad, (T)neither shall he make a substitute for it; and if he does substitute for it, then both it and the substitute shall be holy; it shall not be redeemed.”

34 (U)These are the commandments that the Lord commanded Moses for the people of Israel (V)on Mount Sinai.

A Census of Israel's Warriors

The Lord spoke to Moses (W)in the wilderness of Sinai, (X)in the tent of meeting, on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they had come out of the land of Egypt, saying, (Y)“Take a census of all the congregation of the people of Israel, by clans, (Z)by fathers' houses, according to the number of names, every male, head by head. (AA)From twenty years old and upward, all in Israel who are able to go to war, you and Aaron shall list them, (AB)company by company. And there shall be with you a man from each tribe, each man being the head of the house of his fathers. And these are the names of the men who shall assist you. From Reuben, (AC)Elizur the son of Shedeur; from Simeon, (AD)Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai; from Judah, (AE)Nahshon the son of Amminadab; from Issachar, (AF)Nethanel the son of Zuar; from Zebulun, (AG)Eliab the son of Helon; 10 from the sons of Joseph, from Ephraim, (AH)Elishama the son of Ammihud, and from Manasseh, (AI)Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur; 11 from Benjamin, (AJ)Abidan the son of Gideoni; 12 from Dan, (AK)Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai; 13 from Asher, (AL)Pagiel the son of Ochran; 14 from Gad, Eliasaph the son of (AM)Deuel; 15 from Naphtali, (AN)Ahira the son of Enan.” 16 These were the ones (AO)chosen from the congregation, (AP)the chiefs of their ancestral tribes, the heads of the clans of Israel.

17 Moses and Aaron took these men (AQ)who had been named, 18 and on the first day of the second month, they assembled the whole congregation together, who registered themselves by clans, by fathers' houses, according to the number of names from twenty years old and upward, head by head, 19 as the Lord commanded Moses. So he listed them in the wilderness of Sinai.

20 The people of (AR)Reuben, Israel's firstborn, their generations, by their clans, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of names, head by head, every male from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go to war: 21 those listed of the tribe of Reuben were (AS)46,500.

22 Of the people of Simeon, their generations, by their clans, by their fathers' houses, those of them who were listed, according to the number of names, head by head, every male from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go to war: 23 those listed of the tribe of Simeon were (AT)59,300.

24 Of the people of Gad, their generations, by their clans, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go to war: 25 those listed of the tribe of Gad were (AU)45,650.

26 Of the people of Judah, their generations, by their clans, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, every man able to go to war: 27 those listed of the tribe of Judah were (AV)74,600.

28 Of the people of Issachar, their generations, by their clans, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, every man able to go to war: 29 those listed of the tribe of Issachar were (AW)54,400.

30 Of the people of Zebulun, their generations, by their clans, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, every man able to go to war: 31 those listed of the tribe of Zebulun were (AX)57,400.

32 Of the people of Joseph, namely, of the people of Ephraim, their generations, by their clans, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, every man able to go to war: 33 those listed of the tribe of Ephraim were (AY)40,500.

34 Of the people of Manasseh, their generations, by their clans, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, every man able to go to war: 35 those listed of the tribe of Manasseh were (AZ)32,200.

36 Of the people of Benjamin, their generations, by their clans, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, every man able to go to war: 37 those listed of the tribe of Benjamin were (BA)35,400.

38 Of the people of Dan, their generations, by their clans, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, every man able to go to war: 39 those listed of the tribe of Dan were (BB)62,700.

40 Of the people of Asher, their generations, by their clans, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, every man able to go to war: 41 those listed of the tribe of Asher were (BC)41,500.

42 Of the people of Naphtali, their generations, by their clans, by their fathers' houses, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, every man able to go to war: 43 those listed of the tribe of Naphtali were (BD)53,400.

44 (BE)These are those who were listed, whom Moses and Aaron listed with the help of the chiefs of Israel, twelve men, each representing his fathers' house. 45 So all those listed of the people of Israel, by their fathers' houses, from twenty years old and upward, every man able to go to war in Israel— 46 all those listed were (BF)603,550.

Levites Exempted

47 But (BG)the Levites were not listed along with them by their ancestral tribe. 48 For the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 49 “Only the tribe of Levi you shall not list, and you shall not take a census of them among the people of Israel. 50 (BH)But appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of the testimony, and over all its furnishings, and over all that belongs to it. They are to carry the tabernacle and all its furnishings, and they shall take care of it (BI)and shall camp around the tabernacle. 51 (BJ)When the tabernacle is to set out, the Levites shall take it down, and when the tabernacle is to be pitched, the Levites shall set it up. (BK)And if any outsider comes near, he shall be put to death. 52 The people of Israel shall pitch their tents by their companies, each man in his own camp and (BL)each man by his own standard. 53 But the Levites shall camp around the tabernacle of the testimony, so that there may be no (BM)wrath on the congregation of the people of Israel. (BN)And the Levites shall keep guard over the tabernacle of the testimony.” 54 Thus did the people of Israel; they did according to all that the Lord commanded Moses.

Mark 11:1-25

The Triumphal Entry

11 (A)Now when they drew near to Jerusalem, to (B)Bethphage and Bethany, at (C)the Mount of Olives, Jesus[a] sent (D)two of his disciples and said to them, “Go into the village in front of you, and immediately as you enter it you will find a colt tied, (E)on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it. If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord has need of it and will send it back here immediately.’” And they went away and found a colt tied at a door outside in the street, and they untied it. And some of those standing there said to them, “What are you doing, untying the colt?” And they told them what Jesus had said, and they let them go. And they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on it, and he sat on it. And many (F)spread their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches that they had cut from the fields. And those who went before and those who followed were shouting, (G)“Hosanna! (H)Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! 10 Blessed is (I)the coming (J)kingdom of (K)our father (L)David! (M)Hosanna (N)in the highest!”

11 (O)And he entered Jerusalem and went into the temple. And when he had looked around at everything, as it was already late, (P)he went out to Bethany with the twelve.

Jesus Curses the Fig Tree

12 (Q)On the following day, when they came from Bethany, (R)he was hungry. 13 (S)And seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to see if he could find anything on it. When he came to it, he found nothing but leaves, for (T)it was not the season for figs. 14 And he said to it, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard it.

Jesus Cleanses the Temple

15 (U)And they came to Jerusalem. And he entered the temple and began to drive out those who sold and those who bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of (V)the money-changers and the seats of those who sold (W)pigeons. 16 And he would not allow anyone to carry anything through the temple. 17 And he was teaching them and saying to them, “Is it not written, (X)‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations’? But (Y)you have made it a den of robbers.” 18 And the chief priests and the scribes heard it and (Z)were seeking a way to destroy him, for they feared him, because (AA)all the crowd was astonished at his teaching. 19 (AB)And when evening came they[b] went out of the city.

The Lesson from the Withered Fig Tree

20 (AC)As they passed by in the morning, they saw the fig tree withered away to its roots. 21 And Peter remembered and said to him, (AD)“Rabbi, look! The fig tree that you cursed has withered.” 22 And Jesus answered them, “Have (AE)faith in God. 23 (AF)Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, (AG)‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not (AH)doubt in his heart, but (AI)believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. 24 Therefore I tell you, (AJ)whatever you ask in prayer, (AK)believe that you (AL)have received[c] it, and it will be yours. 25 And whenever (AM)you stand praying, (AN)forgive, (AO)if you have anything against anyone, so that (AP)your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”[d]

Psalm 46

God Is Our Fortress

To the choirmaster. Of (A)the Sons of Korah. According to (B)Alamoth.[a] A Song.

46 God is our (C)refuge and strength,
a very (D)present[b] help in (E)trouble.
Therefore we will not fear (F)though the earth gives way,
though the mountains be moved into (G)the heart of the sea,
though (H)its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah

There is (I)a river whose streams make glad (J)the city of God,
the holy (K)habitation of the Most High.
(L)God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved;
God will help her when morning dawns.
(M)The nations rage, the kingdoms totter;
he (N)utters his voice, the earth (O)melts.
(P)The Lord of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah

(Q)Come, behold the works of the Lord,
how he has brought desolations on the earth.
(R)He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
he (S)breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
(T)he burns the chariots with fire.
10 (U)“Be still, and know that I am God.
(V)I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!”
11 (W)The Lord of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah

Leviticus 25:47-27:13, Mark 10:32-52, Psalms 45:1-17, Proverbs 10:22

Today is the 2nd day of March, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I’m Brian it’s great to be here with you today. I know I said goodbye from Jerusalem yesterday, but kind of saying goodbye from Jerusalem today too. I got looking at a calendar and was like, if there’s any flight delay whatsoever, like there’s no margin of error, if there’s anything I won’t be back, I won’t be back, I don’t know where I’ll be. So, I am reading this just to be wise…so, from Jerusalem. Though by the time you’re hearing this, well hopefully I’m sleeping right now and that we arrived back yesterday afternoon. But I’m gonna play it safe because we have never missed a day in…well this is the 15th year and that’s not gonna happen. So, we have one more day of reading from Jerusalem and it’s great to be here with you today. And we’re reading from the English Standard Version this week. And today, let’s remember like we’re getting lots of rules and regulations and laws and lots of instructions and craftsmanship, all kinds of stuff, a whole culture is being built, but we’re still at Mount Sinai. So, we’re still around this mountain where we’ve been since the children of Israel left Egypt. And, so, we’re still there, still hearing the giving of the law. So, today Leviticus chapter 25 verse 47 through 27 verse 13.

Commentary:

Okay. So, we went through the gospel of Matthew. We certainly went through the story of Jesus, you know, His arrest and trial and execution and resurrection. We read that and we’re moving into that territory now again in the gospel of Mark. And I just want to point this out again because it’s so poignant to our lives and so interesting in the Scriptures. So, like, let me just read a couple verses. “And they will mock him and spit on him and flog him and kill him and after three days He will rise.” And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came up to Him and said to Him, “teacher, we want you to do whatever you ask of…whatever we ask of you.” And He said, “what do you want?” And they said, grant us to sit one at Your right and one at Your left hand in your glory.” Okay, what’s so fascinating is that Jesus is saying to His friends as He’s walking to Jerusalem where these things are gonna to take place that He’s going to die, that He’s going to be killed, that He’s going to be mocked and ridiculed, that He’s going to be spat on, that He’s going to be beaten, and that He’s going to get killed, that He’s going to be executed. And all they can think of to say in the gospel of Mark, like the next breath is James and John asking for seats at His right hand and His left. What’s poignant about this is that they are still…the they don’t understand, even though He’s telling them what’s going to happen. They’re looking for an earthly kingdom. Whatever Jesus is saying He’s saying. He talks in parables all the time. Sometimes He’s hard to understand. They’re thinking these things as they’re moving. And, so, they’re not completely tracking with what’s going on here. And, so, they’re expecting Jesus to go to Jerusalem and like the revolution is going to begin. And although that’s very true, it’s not in any way as they are expecting. God’s kingdom is a heavenly kingdom. It’s a kingdom that is here within us and among us. We…we talked about that at length going through Matthew because Matthew’s gospel captures Jesus revealing the kingdom of heaven basically more than…than the other gospels. So, we’ve been looking at this, but we still so often are looking for it with our senses, our five…like we’re looking for it to be upon this earth. Like where is the kingdom upon this earth? The kingdom upon this earth is everywhere you look if you have eyes to see. And if you feel like you can’t see it then go look in the mirror. So, let’s continue to pay attention to that because I mean, the word for our year, one of the words for our year, is “Vision”. And it’s not like that you can see, it’s that you have eyes to see. It’s that we actually don’t take this is a weird metaphor, but we actually go like, “I have to look differently. I have to look from within. I…I have to look for the goodness of God in the world.” And its growing everywhere. It’s holding back the darkness. We keep thinking like the darkness is overwhelming the world. And, yeah, it’s pretty rough out there, that’s never not been true. Like we’re reading texts from thousands of years ago in the Scriptures, and it was true then. Yes, the darkness is here. The light keeps the darkness from overwhelming us. And according to Jesus, we are the light of the world. So, let’s not miss it. Let’s not waste our lives waiting to die so we can graduate into this. Let’s understand that our lives are full of purpose because we are holding back the darkness. Let’s not…let’s not miss it because when Jesus was here, the Son of the Living God most high we missed it. Let’s not miss it anymore.

Prayer:

Jesus, we invite you into that and it…I mean we’ve asked so many times and we’re going to continue asking, give us eyes to see and ears to hear your kingdom. And we’re asking specifically, let us see it today as we move through this world doing our work having our interactions may we see goodness, may we see the goodness, may we see the light and know that we’re not alone, that we are part of holding back the darkness. We pray this in your mighty name. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Good morning DAB family this is Lady of Victory is about 8:18 on Tuesday the 25th of February and I am a listening to Brian on 25th of February and my heart is overwhelmed…my heart is overwhelmed as I am listening to the prayers at the end. And I specifically want to reach out to Tina for her encouragement. She says she’s a first-time caller and a new listener as of January 1st and how she encouraged us to continue to pray for our adult children. And Tina I just wanted to say to you, you have no idea how you ministered because, you know, as believers sometimes we’re like, “God are you hearing us? Are we making a difference?” And my husband and I are really trying to seek out what God wants for us. God what do You want for the season? And I, you know, we are season believers. And, so, it’s not like we’re just like walking around aimlessly like, “where do You want us God?” But just in this season it’s like God where do You want us? What are You saying? And, so, for you to encourage us the way that you did was so powerful. And I just want to thank you so much. And, yes, you are going to be saved because your heart is ripe for it. And God has…God has been waiting on you all this time to get right where you are. And, so, all you have to do is say, “Lord I am a sinner and I need You in my heart, I need You in my life to take over my life and be Lord. And I surrender, I submit my will to Your will.” And right there, you’ll be saved. He said, when we confess with our mouth and believe in our hearts that He’s Lord then that’s it. And, so, I encourage you sister, do exactly that and thank you so much for your encouragement. We love you.

So, this is my first day listening to the Daily Audio Bible. It was definitely amazing and a great way to start my day. I want to thank Dana the one who told me about the app. I love listening to everyone at the end of each session. I feel a connection to everyone just through, you know, our faith and God and I just pray for all of you and that all your hardships and that everything works out for you. I just want to put a prayer request out there for my fiancé. We’re going through a rough time right now and everything’s been going well so far but I’m just praying for further blessings from God because I know He’s been watching over us during this time. But I just want to thank you guys for creating this app and this ministry. It’s truly amazing.

Hi Daily Audio Bible I love you guys and I am so blessed. I do ministry and everyone who prays, please pray for me. I’m in the hospital with a very bad infection. It’s the second time in the hospital in two months and it can get very discouraging. So please pray for me. Thank you. And please join in praying for everyone out there who’s afflicted with the coronavirus. I just pray that God would break through in the midst of this horrible epidemic. Okay. God bless you.

Hello beloved DABbers this is Chris from Michigan. During the February 22nd community prayer, we heard Daniel from Singapore seek prayers because of the Hunan virus, which we in the states call the coronavirus. Daniel said this is attacking churches almost as if it were from the evil one. So, please let’s all stop right now and pray together. Father God fill us with Your Holy Spirit as we pray. Lord, David prayed at Eranas threshing floor and You answered his prayer and stopped the plague on Israel. So, please hear our prayer. Lord we don’t have the authority of David over his people that we come in the name of him who has authority over us, Your son Jesus. We ask that You would stop this plaque wherever it is right now in the name of Jesus. We ask that those who have been exposed to the virus that will not fall ill nor will they pass it on to others. We ask that those who have fallen ill will be healed. We ask that the plague would be stopped in every nation on earth. We ask for this to happen today in the mighty name of Jesus. We praise You Father God for You’ve asked us to pray this prayer and You hear us as we pray. All glory be to Your name. Amen.

Hello DAB community I have never called in. I’ve been listening silently for a few years. I just want you to know that I do listen to the prayers and I tell everybody about it. I…I just called in because I was so personally touched by just hearing about the two boys that their mother passed away. I had been thinking about them and praying about them and carrying them in my heart just wondering if they’re okay, talking to my husband about it. And to hear them talk and let us know how they’re doing. I just cried and just thank God that they’re doing okay, and they just sound so beautiful on the line. I’m just so grateful and I hope and pray that they will continue to be all right. And the one legacy that their mom left them was a faith in God. That’s the best thing you can do for your child. And never give up on your children, never give up on anybody but especially your children. I…I….I’m so touched by that and how much God has given them joy and that they know that their mother is in a better place. That is…that is just…that…that made me…gave me peace. Thank you, God. Thank you, God. Love you guys.

Good morning DAB family this is your brother Mark from beautiful Florida. I don’t think I’ve ever left my tag or moniker. I’ve often called and sang and prayed for people, but I’ve never left anything or acknowledged my existence. So, here I am this morning. I want to pray and challenge all those people out there that are calling in for our brother Harold. Harold, you have made such an impression and left such a mark in our community. I can only come to the conclusion that everybody who’s thrown their support in for you, for your run, needs to throw their support in and go and evangelize people. To me this this just shows that people are hungry to share the gospel right where they’re at. And, so, DABbers, I just want to challenge you to do that today. Go tell it on the mountain. Tell everybody. Uncover that gospel light you’re hiding and that you use just to crawl under the shell. Challenge yourself. Go talk to a couple people today right we you’re at. Pray for them. Tell them that Jesus loves them. It’s a fun thing to do and it makes you feel good too. And you’re doing your job for the Lord. As Jesus said, go forth and make disciples of all nations baptizing them and telling them what I told you in the name of the Father Son and Holy Ghost and low I’ll be with you always. He promises this. Don’t be afraid, He’s gonna be with us to the end of the age. DABbers I’ll talk to you soon, this is Mark from Florida.

Father God thank You so much for this new day and all of the opportunities before us and all the blessings You have in store for us this day. Help us Lord to grasp with open hands and also help us to recognize when we are at a crossroads when we do have a choice between the narrow path that leads to life and the easier wide path as well. Help us Lord to deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow You. Lord, thank You for today and a reminder of what today is, Ash Wednesday. All go to one place. All are from the dust and to dust all return. One day Lord we will die unless You come before that, but anyway. But Lord it’s not left there for as in Adam all die so also in Christ shall all be made alive. Thank You, Lord that though we may die that is not the end because Christ came and redeemed us so that we might have life everlasting. And I pray Lord that You’d help us to remember that hope as we face the disappointments of life, as we face death, that You’d be with us Lord. Lord, I also want to pray for India at this time and pray for wisdom for the government and the authorities as the people are rioting. And we do Lord, we pray for peace and we pray for calm and we pray that love would reign, especially between the Hindu and the Muslim community. Please be at work Lord and please be protecting people and property in Jesus’ holy and precious name. Amen.

The Daily Audio Bible Reading for Monday March 2, 2020 (NIV)

Leviticus 25:47-27:13

Redeeming a Poor Man

47 “If a stranger or sojourner with you becomes rich, and (A)your brother beside him becomes poor and sells himself to the stranger or sojourner with you or to a member of the stranger's clan, 48 then after he is sold he may be redeemed. One of his brothers may redeem him, 49 or his uncle or his cousin may (B)redeem him, or a close relative from his clan may redeem him. Or if he (C)grows rich he may redeem himself. 50 He shall calculate with his buyer from the year when he sold himself to him until the year of jubilee, and the price of his sale shall vary with the number of years. The time he was with his owner shall be (D)rated as the time of a hired worker. 51 If there are still many years left, he shall pay proportionately for his redemption some of his sale price. 52 If there remain but a few years until the year of jubilee, he shall calculate and pay for his redemption in proportion to his years of service. 53 He shall treat him as a worker hired year by year. (E)He shall not rule ruthlessly over him in your sight. 54 And if he is not redeemed by these means, then (F)he and his children with him shall be released in the year of jubilee. 55 For it is (G)to me that the people of Israel are servants.[a] They are my servants whom I brought out of the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.

Blessings for Obedience

26 “You shall not make (H)idols for yourselves or erect an (I)image or (J)pillar, and you shall not set up a (K)figured stone in your land to bow down to it, for I am the Lord your God. (L)You shall keep my Sabbaths and reverence my sanctuary: I am the Lord.

(M)“If you walk in my statutes and observe my commandments and do them, then (N)I will give you your rains in their season, and the land shall yield its increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit. (O)Your threshing shall last to the time of the grape harvest, and the grape harvest shall last to the time for sowing. And (P)you shall eat your bread to the full and (Q)dwell in your land securely. (R)I will give peace in the land, and (S)you shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid. And (T)I will remove harmful beasts from the land, (U)and the sword shall not go through your land. You shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword. (V)Five of you shall chase a hundred, and a hundred of you shall chase ten thousand, and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword. (W)I will turn to you and (X)make you fruitful and multiply you and will confirm my covenant with you. 10 You shall eat (Y)old store long kept, and you shall clear out the old to make way for the new. 11 (Z)I will make my dwelling[b] among you, and my soul shall not abhor you. 12 (AA)And I (AB)will walk among you and will be your God, and you shall be my people. 13 (AC)I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that you should not be their slaves. (AD)And I have broken the bars of your yoke and made you walk erect.

Punishment for Disobedience

14 (AE)“But if you will not listen to me and will not do all these commandments, 15 if you spurn my statutes, and if your soul abhors my rules, so that you will not do all my commandments, but (AF)break my covenant, 16 then I will do this to you: I will visit you with panic, with (AG)wasting disease and fever that consume the eyes and make the heart ache. And (AH)you shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it. 17 I will (AI)set my face against you, and (AJ)you shall be struck down before your enemies. (AK)Those who hate you shall rule over you, and (AL)you shall flee when none pursues you. 18 And if in spite of this you will not listen to me, then I will discipline you again (AM)sevenfold for your sins, 19 and I will break (AN)the pride of your power, and I (AO)will make your heavens like iron and your earth like bronze. 20 And (AP)your strength shall be spent in vain, for (AQ)your land shall not yield its increase, and the trees of the land shall not yield their fruit.

21 (AR)“Then if you walk contrary to me and will not listen to me, I will continue striking you, sevenfold for your sins. 22 And (AS)I will let loose the wild beasts against you, which shall bereave you of your children and destroy your livestock and make you few in number, so that (AT)your roads shall be deserted.

23 “And (AU)if by this discipline you are not turned to me (AV)but walk contrary to me, 24 (AW)then I also will walk contrary to you, and I myself will strike you sevenfold for your sins. 25 And (AX)I will bring a sword upon you, that shall execute vengeance for the covenant. And if you gather within your cities, (AY)I will send pestilence among you, and you shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy. 26 (AZ)When I break your supply[c] of bread, ten women shall bake your bread in a single oven and shall dole out your bread again by weight, and (BA)you shall eat and not be satisfied.

27 “But (BB)if in spite of this you will not listen to me, but walk contrary to me, 28 then I will walk contrary to you (BC)in fury, and I myself will discipline you (BD)sevenfold for your sins. 29 (BE)You shall eat the flesh of your sons, and you shall eat the flesh of your daughters. 30 And (BF)I will destroy your high places and cut down your incense altars and (BG)cast your dead bodies upon the dead bodies of your idols, and my soul will abhor you. 31 And I will (BH)lay your cities waste and will (BI)make your sanctuaries desolate, and (BJ)I will not smell your pleasing aromas. 32 And (BK)I myself will devastate the land, so that your enemies who settle in it shall be (BL)appalled at it. 33 And (BM)I will scatter you among the nations, and I will unsheathe the sword after you, and your land shall be a desolation, and your cities shall be a waste.

34 (BN)“Then the land shall enjoy[d] its Sabbaths as long as it lies desolate, while you are in your enemies' land; then the land shall rest, and enjoy its Sabbaths. 35 As long as it lies desolate it shall have rest, the rest that it did not have on your Sabbaths when you were dwelling in it. 36 And as for those of you who are left, (BO)I will send faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies. The (BP)sound of a (BQ)driven leaf shall put them to flight, and they shall flee as one flees from the sword, and they shall fall when none pursues. 37 They shall stumble over one another, as if to escape a sword, though none pursues. And (BR)you shall have no power to stand before your enemies. 38 And you shall perish among the nations, and the land of your enemies shall eat you up. 39 And those of you who are left shall (BS)rot away in your enemies' lands because of their iniquity, and also because of the iniquities of their fathers they shall rot away like them.

40 “But if (BT)they confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their fathers in their treachery that they (BU)committed against me, and also in walking contrary to me, 41 so that I walked contrary to them and brought them into the land of their enemies—if then their (BV)uncircumcised heart is (BW)humbled and they make amends for their iniquity, 42 then I will (BX)remember my covenant with Jacob, and I will remember my covenant with Isaac and my covenant with Abraham, and I will (BY)remember the land. 43 But (BZ)the land shall be abandoned by them and enjoy its Sabbaths while it lies desolate without them, and they shall make amends for their iniquity, because they spurned my rules and their soul abhorred my statutes. 44 Yet for all that, when they are in the land of their enemies, (CA)I will not spurn them, neither will I abhor them so as to destroy them utterly and (CB)break my covenant with them, for I am the Lord their God. 45 But I will for their sake remember the covenant with their forefathers, (CC)whom I brought out of the land of Egypt (CD)in the sight of the nations, that I might be their God: I am the Lord.”

46 (CE)These are the statutes and rules and laws that the Lord made between himself and the people of Israel through Moses (CF)on Mount Sinai.

Laws About Vows

27 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, If anyone (CG)makes a special vow to the Lord involving the valuation of persons, then the valuation of a male from twenty years old up to sixty years old shall be fifty shekels[e] of silver, according to the (CH)shekel of the sanctuary. If the person is a female, the valuation shall be thirty shekels. If the person is from five years old up to twenty years old, the valuation shall be for a male twenty shekels, and for a female ten shekels. If the person is from a month old up to five years old, the valuation shall be for a male five shekels of silver, and for a female the valuation shall be three shekels of silver. And if the person is sixty years old or over, then the valuation for a male shall be fifteen shekels, and for a female ten shekels. And if someone is too poor to pay the valuation, then he shall be made to stand before the priest, and the priest shall value him; the priest shall value him according to what the vower can afford.

“If the vow[f] is an animal that may be offered as an offering to the Lord, all of it that he gives to the Lord is holy. 10 (CI)He shall not exchange it or make a substitute for it, good for bad, or bad for good; and if he does in fact substitute one animal for another, then both it and the substitute shall be holy. 11 And if it is any unclean animal that may not be offered as an offering to the Lord, then he shall stand the animal before the priest, 12 and the priest shall value it as either good or bad; as the priest values it, so it shall be. 13 (CJ)But if he wishes to redeem it, he shall add a (CK)fifth to the valuation.

Mark 10:32-52

Jesus Foretells His Death a Third Time

32 (A)And they were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and (B)Jesus was walking ahead of them. And (C)they were amazed, and those who followed were afraid. And taking the twelve again, he began to tell them what was to happen to him, 33 saying, “See, (D)we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will (E)condemn him to death and (F)deliver him over to the Gentiles. 34 And they will (G)mock him and (H)spit on him, and flog him and kill him. And (I)after three days he will rise.”

The Request of James and John

35 (J)And James and John, (K)the sons of Zebedee, came up to him and said to him, “Teacher, we want you to do for us (L)whatever we ask of you.” 36 And he said to them, (M)“What do you want me to do for you?” 37 And they said to him, “Grant us (N)to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, (O)in your glory.” 38 Jesus said to them, (P)“You do not know what you are asking. Are you able (Q)to drink the cup that I drink, or (R)to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?” 39 And they said to him, “We are able.” And Jesus said to them, (S)“The cup that I drink (T)you will drink, and with the baptism with which I am baptized, (U)you will be baptized, 40 but to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant, (V)but it is for those for whom it has been (W)prepared.” 41 And when the ten heard it, they began to be indignant at James and John. 42 (X)And Jesus called them to him and said to them, “You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles (Y)lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 43 But (Z)it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant,[a] 44 and whoever would be first among you must be (AA)slave[b] of all. 45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but (AB)to serve, and (AC)to give his life as a ransom for (AD)many.”

Jesus Heals Blind Bartimaeus

46 (AE)And they came to Jericho. And (AF)as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a great crowd, Bartimaeus, (AG)a blind beggar, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the roadside. 47 And when he heard that it was (AH)Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” 48 And many (AI)rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” 49 And Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” And they called the blind man, saying to him, (AJ)“Take heart. Get up; he is calling you.” 50 And throwing off his (AK)cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus. 51 And Jesus said to him, (AL)“What do you want me to do for you?” And the blind man said to him, (AM)“Rabbi, let me recover my sight.” 52 And Jesus said to him, “Go your way; (AN)your faith has (AO)made you well.” And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him on the way.

Psalm 45

Your Throne, O God, Is Forever

To the choirmaster: according to Lilies. A Maskil[a] of (A)the Sons of Korah; a love song.

45 My heart overflows with a pleasing theme;
I address my verses to the king;
my tongue is like the pen of (B)a ready scribe.

You are (C)the most handsome of the sons of men;
(D)grace is poured upon your lips;
therefore God has blessed you forever.
(E)Gird your (F)sword on your thigh, O (G)mighty one,
in (H)your splendor and majesty!

In your majesty (I)ride out victoriously
for the cause of truth and meekness and righteousness;
let your right hand teach you (J)awesome deeds!
Your arrows are sharp
in the heart of the king's enemies;
the peoples fall under you.

(K)Your throne, O God, is forever and ever.
The (L)scepter of your kingdom is a scepter of uprightness;
(M)you have loved righteousness and hated wickedness.
Therefore (N)God, your God, has (O)anointed you
with the oil of (P)gladness (Q)beyond your companions;
your robes are all fragrant with (R)myrrh and aloes and cassia.
From ivory palaces (S)stringed instruments make you glad;
daughters of kings are among your ladies of honor;
(T)at your right hand stands the queen in (U)gold of Ophir.

10 Hear, O daughter, and consider, and incline your ear:
forget your people and your father's house,
11 and the king will desire your beauty.
Since he is your (V)lord, (W)bow to him.
12 The people[b] of Tyre will (X)seek your favor with (Y)gifts,
(Z)the richest of the people.[c]

13 All glorious is (AA)the princess in her chamber, with robes interwoven with gold.
14 (AB)In many-colored robes (AC)she is led to the king,
with her virgin companions following behind her.
15 With joy and gladness they are led along
as they enter the palace of the king.

16 In place of your fathers shall be your sons;
you will make them (AD)princes in all the earth.
17 (AE)I will cause your name to be remembered in all generations;
therefore nations will praise you forever and ever.
