Jeremiah 30:1-31:26

Restoration of Israel

30 This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord: “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘Write(A) in a book all the words I have spoken to you. The days(B) are coming,’ declares the Lord, ‘when I will bring(C) my people Israel and Judah back from captivity[a] and restore(D) them to the land I gave their ancestors to possess,’ says the Lord.”

These are the words the Lord spoke concerning Israel and Judah: “This is what the Lord says:

“‘Cries of fear(E) are heard—
terror, not peace.
Ask and see:
Can a man bear children?
Then why do I see every strong man
with his hands on his stomach like a woman in labor,(F)
every face turned deathly pale?(G)
How awful that day(H) will be!
No other will be like it.
It will be a time of trouble(I) for Jacob,
but he will be saved(J) out of it.

“‘In that day,’ declares the Lord Almighty,
‘I will break the yoke(K) off their necks
and will tear off their bonds;(L)
no longer will foreigners enslave them.(M)
Instead, they will serve the Lord their God
and David(N) their king,(O)
whom I will raise up for them.

10 “‘So do not be afraid,(P) Jacob my servant;(Q)
do not be dismayed, Israel,’
declares the Lord.
‘I will surely save(R) you out of a distant place,
your descendants from the land of their exile.
Jacob will again have peace and security,(S)
and no one will make him afraid.(T)
11 I am with you(U) and will save you,’
declares the Lord.
‘Though I completely destroy all the nations
among which I scatter you,
I will not completely destroy(V) you.
I will discipline(W) you but only in due measure;
I will not let you go entirely unpunished.’(X)

12 “This is what the Lord says:

“‘Your wound(Y) is incurable,
your injury beyond healing.(Z)
13 There is no one to plead your cause,(AA)
no remedy for your sore,
no healing(AB) for you.
14 All your allies(AC) have forgotten you;
they care nothing for you.
I have struck you as an enemy(AD) would
and punished you as would the cruel,(AE)
because your guilt is so great
and your sins(AF) so many.
15 Why do you cry out over your wound,
your pain that has no cure?(AG)
Because of your great guilt and many sins
I have done these things to you.(AH)

16 “‘But all who devour(AI) you will be devoured;
all your enemies will go into exile.(AJ)
Those who plunder(AK) you will be plundered;
all who make spoil of you I will despoil.
17 But I will restore you to health
and heal(AL) your wounds,’
declares the Lord,
‘because you are called an outcast,(AM)
Zion for whom no one cares.’(AN)

18 “This is what the Lord says:

“‘I will restore the fortunes(AO) of Jacob’s tents(AP)
and have compassion(AQ) on his dwellings;
the city will be rebuilt(AR) on her ruins,
and the palace will stand in its proper place.
19 From them will come songs(AS) of thanksgiving(AT)
and the sound of rejoicing.(AU)
I will add to their numbers,(AV)
and they will not be decreased;
I will bring them honor,(AW)
and they will not be disdained.
20 Their children(AX) will be as in days of old,
and their community will be established(AY) before me;
I will punish(AZ) all who oppress them.
21 Their leader(BA) will be one of their own;
their ruler will arise from among them.(BB)
I will bring him near(BC) and he will come close to me—
for who is he who will devote himself
to be close to me?’
declares the Lord.
22 “‘So you will be my people,(BD)
and I will be your God.(BE)’”

23 See, the storm(BF) of the Lord
will burst out in wrath,
a driving wind swirling down
on the heads of the wicked.
24 The fierce anger(BG) of the Lord will not turn back(BH)
until he fully accomplishes
the purposes of his heart.
In days to come
you will understand(BI) this.

31 “At that time,” declares the Lord, “I will be the God(BJ) of all the families of Israel, and they will be my people.”

This is what the Lord says:

“The people who survive the sword
will find favor(BK) in the wilderness;
I will come to give rest(BL) to Israel.”

The Lord appeared to us in the past,[b] saying:

“I have loved(BM) you with an everlasting love;
I have drawn(BN) you with unfailing kindness.
I will build you up again,
and you, Virgin(BO) Israel, will be rebuilt.(BP)
Again you will take up your timbrels(BQ)
and go out to dance(BR) with the joyful.(BS)
Again you will plant(BT) vineyards
on the hills of Samaria;(BU)
the farmers will plant them
and enjoy their fruit.(BV)
There will be a day when watchmen(BW) cry out
on the hills of Ephraim,
‘Come, let us go up to Zion,
to the Lord our God.’”(BX)

This is what the Lord says:

“Sing(BY) with joy for Jacob;
shout for the foremost(BZ) of the nations.
Make your praises heard, and say,
Lord, save(CA) your people,
the remnant(CB) of Israel.’
See, I will bring them from the land of the north(CC)
and gather(CD) them from the ends of the earth.
Among them will be the blind(CE) and the lame,(CF)
expectant mothers and women in labor;
a great throng will return.
They will come with weeping;(CG)
they will pray as I bring them back.
I will lead(CH) them beside streams of water(CI)
on a level(CJ) path where they will not stumble,
because I am Israel’s father,(CK)
and Ephraim is my firstborn son.

10 “Hear the word of the Lord, you nations;
proclaim it in distant coastlands:(CL)
‘He who scattered(CM) Israel will gather(CN) them
and will watch over his flock like a shepherd.’(CO)
11 For the Lord will deliver Jacob
and redeem(CP) them from the hand of those stronger(CQ) than they.
12 They will come and shout for joy(CR) on the heights(CS) of Zion;
they will rejoice in the bounty(CT) of the Lord
the grain, the new wine and the olive oil,(CU)
the young of the flocks(CV) and herds.
They will be like a well-watered garden,(CW)
and they will sorrow(CX) no more.
13 Then young women will dance and be glad,
young men and old as well.
I will turn their mourning(CY) into gladness;
I will give them comfort(CZ) and joy(DA) instead of sorrow.
14 I will satisfy(DB) the priests(DC) with abundance,
and my people will be filled with my bounty,(DD)
declares the Lord.

15 This is what the Lord says:

“A voice is heard in Ramah,(DE)
mourning and great weeping,
Rachel weeping for her children
and refusing to be comforted,(DF)
because they are no more.”(DG)

16 This is what the Lord says:

“Restrain your voice from weeping
and your eyes from tears,(DH)
for your work will be rewarded,(DI)
declares the Lord.
“They will return(DJ) from the land of the enemy.
17 So there is hope(DK) for your descendants,”
declares the Lord.
“Your children(DL) will return to their own land.

18 “I have surely heard Ephraim’s moaning:
‘You disciplined(DM) me like an unruly calf,(DN)
and I have been disciplined.
Restore(DO) me, and I will return,
because you are the Lord my God.
19 After I strayed,(DP)
I repented;
after I came to understand,
I beat(DQ) my breast.
I was ashamed(DR) and humiliated
because I bore the disgrace of my youth.’(DS)
20 Is not Ephraim my dear son,
the child(DT) in whom I delight?
Though I often speak against him,
I still remember(DU) him.
Therefore my heart yearns for him;
I have great compassion(DV) for him,”
declares the Lord.

21 “Set up road signs;
put up guideposts.(DW)
Take note of the highway,(DX)
the road that you take.
Return,(DY) Virgin(DZ) Israel,
return to your towns.
22 How long will you wander,(EA)
unfaithful(EB) Daughter Israel?
The Lord will create a new thing(EC) on earth—
the woman will return to[c](ED) the man.”

23 This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: “When I bring them back from captivity,[d](EE) the people in the land of Judah and in its towns will once again use these words: ‘The Lord bless(EF) you, you prosperous city,(EG) you sacred mountain.’(EH) 24 People will live(EI) together in Judah and all its towns—farmers and those who move about with their flocks.(EJ) 25 I will refresh the weary(EK) and satisfy the faint.”(EL)

26 At this I awoke(EM) and looked around. My sleep had been pleasant to me.

1 Timothy 2

Instructions on Worship

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers,(A) intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority,(B) that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness(C) and holiness. This is good, and pleases(D) God our Savior,(E) who wants(F) all people(G) to be saved(H) and to come to a knowledge of the truth.(I) For there is one God(J) and one mediator(K) between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus,(L) who gave himself as a ransom(M) for all people. This has now been witnessed to(N) at the proper time.(O) And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle—I am telling the truth, I am not lying(P)—and a true and faithful teacher(Q) of the Gentiles.(R)

Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands(S) without anger or disputing. I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes,(T) 10 but with good deeds,(U) appropriate for women who profess to worship God.

11 A woman[a] should learn in quietness and full submission.(V) 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man;[b] she must be quiet.(W) 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve.(X) 14 And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner.(Y) 15 But women[c] will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love(Z) and holiness with propriety.

Psalm 87

Psalm 87

Of the Sons of Korah. A psalm. A song.

He has founded his city on the holy mountain.(A)
The Lord loves the gates of Zion(B)
more than all the other dwellings of Jacob.

Glorious things are said of you,
city of God:[a](C)
“I will record Rahab[b](D) and Babylon
among those who acknowledge me—
Philistia(E) too, and Tyre(F), along with Cush[c]
and will say, ‘This one was born in Zion.’”[d](G)
Indeed, of Zion it will be said,
“This one and that one were born in her,
and the Most High himself will establish her.”
The Lord will write in the register(H) of the peoples:
“This one was born in Zion.”

As they make music(I) they will sing,
“All my fountains(J) are in you.”

Proverbs 25:18-19

18 Like a club or a sword or a sharp arrow
is one who gives false testimony against a neighbor.(A)
19 Like a broken tooth or a lame foot
is reliance on the unfaithful in a time of trouble.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hi there, this is Judith from Reading in the United Kingdom. It’s the 12th of October. I’m calling with a few things I’ve thought of but I haven’t called in to say. Firstly, Bobby or Bonnie, I’m not sure which it was, from Pennsylvania a while ago called in to say she finished her job and had decided to stay home with her son. And just wanted to call to say I stay at home too with my 13 month old son and I was really encouraged to hear that that’s what you are doing too and trusting that God’s blessing you in that and I wanted you to know that I think that’s a great thing and I think that really honors God, what you’ve chosen to do. And also, been really blessed to hear a couple other people calling from the United Kingdom, really love to hear that. There was a girl, a long time ago now, I think a few months ago, ringing about a keloid scar that you had. And I’ve been thinking of you too and I’ll keep praying for you and really trusting that the Lord would give you we give you new perspective on that and this would be a time when He really changes your attitude and understanding of what’s beautiful to Him and how you can overcome these things that distract us and that you would find a new confidence that comes from Him and not just from the way you look, which I know is really hard. So, trusting that He’s with you in that. And thank you for calling. And been really blessed just to hear the way people…some of the women who call in about your husbands, you’re speaking about your husband’s with such respect and I really find that a blessing and an encouragement and trusting that God honors you in that because that’s a wonderful thing that you’re doing, praying for your husband’s. So, yeah, really loving hearing you guys. I never used to listen to the prayer requests but I’m really…

Hi, it’s Markoma, calling from down under down under, which is Hobart Tasmania. I’ve been a listener for two years and I have really enjoyed the program. It has really enriched my life. I listen every single day. I’ve worked for the last 4 ½ years in the prison service, as a correctional officer and recently have changed into probation and parole. There’s about one men and women on my caseload. I also am a mother of two sons and both are kind of haphazardly attending church without really making a commitment. So, prayers for them would be great. I enjoy hearing your calls and I do pray for you and thank you so much Brian and your family for the sacrifice with this amazing program. Okay. See ya.

Yes, hi Daily Audio Bible. I just wish to come to you in prayer and pray for my friend Matthew who lives in New Zealand. And Lord I just like to thank You for him Lord and ask Your blessing upon him. Lord I just pray Lord that You just __ Lord and just really…just touch his heart Lord. And Lord but wherever he goes Lord and as he’s working Lord in the Bakery place Lord, I just pray Lord that You just help him to be…be an angel to You Lord and be an angel to Your light Lord. And Lord I just thank You Lord that You just fill him up today Lord and Lord I just really thank You Lord that…for him Lord and just ask Your blessing upon him now in the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost. Amen. You know, it’s really great to just be here with you and talk to you guys in prayer __. This is Matthew from Australia. And it’s now the 13th of the 10th and it’s 12:04 PM. So, I’d just like to thank Brian and all the family for being here and organizing this Daily Audio Bible podcast. You know __, I got my friend Matthew into reading…ya…listening to the Audio Bible here and he’s loved it ever since. It’s really, really great too…that you guys are still doing this ministry. Keep up the good work. I’ll call again soon. Thank you, bye-bye.

Hi Audio Bible family, my name is Kenisha out of Atlanta. I’m new…fairly new…to the Audio Bible. It has done my heart such pleasure to, you know, here all those words of encouragement from the prayer line and everything with you guys. And I just wanted to let you know that I do pray for a lot of you. I can’t remember the names of the people, but a lot of the…I do pray for each and every last one of you. I’m calling today for prayer for me and by daughter. I’m not sure what’s going on. She’s lost her way and I just can’t reach her. She’s 23 and her name is Alexis. And I don’t know. She went to school and she came back this different child or this different person. I’m just not used to her and I can’t reach her. And my heart is breaking right now because I just…I don’t know how to help her anymore. I just don’t and I’m at my breaking point with her. She’s just so disrespectful and so rude. I tried to teach her and told her to read the book of Proverbs and I just don’t know anymore. Could you just please pray for me and my family? Thank you so much. I really appreciate it. Bye.

Jeremiah 28-29

The False Prophet Hananiah

28 In the fifth month of that same year, the fourth year, early in the reign of Zedekiah(A) king of Judah, the prophet Hananiah son of Azzur, who was from Gibeon,(B) said to me in the house of the Lord in the presence of the priests and all the people: “This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: ‘I will break the yoke(C) of the king of Babylon. Within two years I will bring back to this place all the articles(D) of the Lord’s house that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon removed from here and took to Babylon. I will also bring back to this place Jehoiachin[a](E) son of Jehoiakim king of Judah and all the other exiles from Judah who went to Babylon,’ declares the Lord, ‘for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.’”(F)

Then the prophet Jeremiah replied to the prophet Hananiah before the priests and all the people who were standing in the house of the Lord. He said, “Amen! May the Lord do so! May the Lord fulfill the words you have prophesied by bringing the articles of the Lord’s house and all the exiles back to this place from Babylon.(G) Nevertheless, listen to what I have to say in your hearing and in the hearing of all the people: From early times the prophets who preceded you and me have prophesied war, disaster and plague(H) against many countries and great kingdoms. But the prophet who prophesies peace will be recognized as one truly sent by the Lord only if his prediction comes true.(I)

10 Then the prophet Hananiah took the yoke(J) off the neck of the prophet Jeremiah and broke it, 11 and he said(K) before all the people, “This is what the Lord says: ‘In the same way I will break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon off the neck of all the nations within two years.’” At this, the prophet Jeremiah went on his way.

12 After the prophet Hananiah had broken the yoke off the neck of the prophet Jeremiah, the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah: 13 “Go and tell Hananiah, ‘This is what the Lord says: You have broken a wooden yoke, but in its place you will get a yoke of iron. 14 This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: I will put an iron yoke(L) on the necks of all these nations to make them serve(M) Nebuchadnezzar(N) king of Babylon, and they will serve him. I will even give him control over the wild animals.(O)’”

15 Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet, “Listen, Hananiah! The Lord has not sent(P) you, yet you have persuaded this nation to trust in lies.(Q) 16 Therefore this is what the Lord says: ‘I am about to remove you from the face of the earth.(R) This very year you are going to die,(S) because you have preached rebellion(T) against the Lord.’”

17 In the seventh month of that same year, Hananiah the prophet died.(U)

A Letter to the Exiles

29 This is the text of the letter(V) that the prophet Jeremiah sent from Jerusalem to the surviving elders among the exiles and to the priests, the prophets and all the other people Nebuchadnezzar had carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon.(W) (This was after King Jehoiachin[b](X) and the queen mother,(Y) the court officials and the leaders of Judah and Jerusalem, the skilled workers and the artisans had gone into exile from Jerusalem.) He entrusted the letter to Elasah son of Shaphan and to Gemariah son of Hilkiah, whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent to King Nebuchadnezzar in Babylon. It said:

This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says to all those I carried(Z) into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon: “Build(AA) houses and settle down; plant gardens and eat what they produce. Marry and have sons and daughters; find wives for your sons and give your daughters in marriage, so that they too may have sons and daughters. Increase in number there; do not decrease.(AB) Also, seek(AC) the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray(AD) to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.” Yes, this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: “Do not let the prophets(AE) and diviners among you deceive(AF) you. Do not listen to the dreams(AG) you encourage them to have.(AH) They are prophesying lies(AI) to you in my name. I have not sent(AJ) them,” declares the Lord.

10 This is what the Lord says: “When seventy years(AK) are completed for Babylon, I will come to you(AL) and fulfill my good promise(AM) to bring you back(AN) to this place. 11 For I know the plans(AO) I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper(AP) you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.(AQ) 12 Then you will call(AR) on me and come and pray(AS) to me, and I will listen(AT) to you. 13 You will seek(AU) me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.(AV) 14 I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back(AW) from captivity.[c] I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.”(AX)

15 You may say, “The Lord has raised up prophets for us in Babylon,” 16 but this is what the Lord says about the king who sits on David’s throne and all the people who remain in this city, your fellow citizens who did not go with you into exile— 17 yes, this is what the Lord Almighty says: “I will send the sword, famine and plague(AY) against them and I will make them like figs(AZ) that are so bad they cannot be eaten. 18 I will pursue them with the sword, famine and plague and will make them abhorrent(BA) to all the kingdoms of the earth, a curse[d](BB) and an object of horror,(BC) of scorn(BD) and reproach, among all the nations where I drive them. 19 For they have not listened to my words,”(BE) declares the Lord, “words that I sent to them again and again(BF) by my servants the prophets.(BG) And you exiles have not listened either,” declares the Lord.

20 Therefore, hear the word of the Lord, all you exiles whom I have sent(BH) away from Jerusalem to Babylon. 21 This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says about Ahab son of Kolaiah and Zedekiah son of Maaseiah, who are prophesying lies(BI) to you in my name: “I will deliver them into the hands of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he will put them to death before your very eyes. 22 Because of them, all the exiles from Judah who are in Babylon will use this curse: ‘May the Lord treat you like Zedekiah and Ahab, whom the king of Babylon burned(BJ) in the fire.’ 23 For they have done outrageous things in Israel; they have committed adultery(BK) with their neighbors’ wives, and in my name they have uttered lies—which I did not authorize. I know(BL) it and am a witness(BM) to it,” declares the Lord.

Message to Shemaiah

24 Tell Shemaiah the Nehelamite, 25 “This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: You sent letters in your own name to all the people in Jerusalem, to the priest Zephaniah(BN) son of Maaseiah, and to all the other priests. You said to Zephaniah, 26 ‘The Lord has appointed you priest in place of Jehoiada to be in charge of the house of the Lord; you should put any maniac(BO) who acts like a prophet into the stocks(BP) and neck-irons. 27 So why have you not reprimanded Jeremiah from Anathoth, who poses as a prophet among you? 28 He has sent this message(BQ) to us in Babylon: It will be a long time.(BR) Therefore build(BS) houses and settle down; plant gardens and eat what they produce.’”

29 Zephaniah(BT) the priest, however, read the letter to Jeremiah the prophet. 30 Then the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah: 31 “Send this message to all the exiles: ‘This is what the Lord says about Shemaiah(BU) the Nehelamite: Because Shemaiah has prophesied to you, even though I did not send(BV) him, and has persuaded you to trust in lies, 32 this is what the Lord says: I will surely punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite and his descendants.(BW) He will have no one left among this people, nor will he see the good(BX) things I will do for my people, declares the Lord, because he has preached rebellion(BY) against me.’”

1 Timothy 1

Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the command of God(A) our Savior(B) and of Christ Jesus our hope,(C)

To Timothy(D) my true son(E) in the faith:

Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.(F)

Timothy Charged to Oppose False Teachers

As I urged you when I went into Macedonia,(G) stay there in Ephesus(H) so that you may command certain people not to teach false doctrines(I) any longer or to devote themselves to myths(J) and endless genealogies.(K) Such things promote controversial speculations(L) rather than advancing God’s work—which is by faith. The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart(M) and a good conscience(N) and a sincere faith.(O) Some have departed from these and have turned to meaningless talk. They want to be teachers(P) of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm.(Q)

We know that the law is good(R) if one uses it properly. We also know that the law is made not for the righteous(S) but for lawbreakers and rebels,(T) the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, 10 for the sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine(U) 11 that conforms to the gospel concerning the glory of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me.(V)

The Lord’s Grace to Paul

12 I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength,(W) that he considered me trustworthy, appointing me to his service.(X) 13 Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor(Y) and a violent man, I was shown mercy(Z) because I acted in ignorance and unbelief.(AA) 14 The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly,(AB) along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.(AC)

15 Here is a trustworthy saying(AD) that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners(AE)—of whom I am the worst. 16 But for that very reason I was shown mercy(AF) so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience(AG) as an example for those who would believe(AH) in him and receive eternal life.(AI) 17 Now to the King(AJ) eternal, immortal,(AK) invisible,(AL) the only God,(AM) be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.(AN)

The Charge to Timothy Renewed

18 Timothy, my son,(AO) I am giving you this command in keeping with the prophecies once made about you,(AP) so that by recalling them you may fight the battle well,(AQ) 19 holding on to faith and a good conscience,(AR) which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck with regard to the faith.(AS) 20 Among them are Hymenaeus(AT) and Alexander,(AU) whom I have handed over to Satan(AV) to be taught not to blaspheme.

Psalm 86

Psalm 86

A prayer of David.

Hear me, Lord, and answer(A) me,
for I am poor and needy.
Guard my life, for I am faithful to you;
save your servant who trusts in you.(B)
You are my God; have mercy(C) on me, Lord,
for I call(D) to you all day long.
Bring joy to your servant, Lord,
for I put my trust(E) in you.

You, Lord, are forgiving and good,
abounding in love(F) to all who call to you.
Hear my prayer, Lord;
listen to my cry(G) for mercy.
When I am in distress,(H) I call(I) to you,
because you answer(J) me.

Among the gods(K) there is none like you,(L) Lord;
no deeds can compare with yours.
All the nations you have made
will come(M) and worship(N) before you, Lord;
they will bring glory(O) to your name.
10 For you are great(P) and do marvelous deeds;(Q)
you alone(R) are God.

11 Teach me your way,(S) Lord,
that I may rely on your faithfulness;(T)
give me an undivided(U) heart,
that I may fear(V) your name.
12 I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart;(W)
I will glorify your name forever.
13 For great is your love toward me;
you have delivered me(X) from the depths,
from the realm of the dead.(Y)

14 Arrogant foes are attacking me, O God;
ruthless people are trying to kill me—
they have no regard for you.(Z)
15 But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious(AA) God,
slow to anger,(AB) abounding(AC) in love and faithfulness.(AD)
16 Turn to me(AE) and have mercy(AF) on me;
show your strength(AG) in behalf of your servant;
save me, because I serve you
just as my mother did.(AH)
17 Give me a sign(AI) of your goodness,
that my enemies may see it and be put to shame,
for you, Lord, have helped me and comforted me.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hello, my name is Chad, I’m from the Detroit area. The reason why I’m calling is that I’ve heard a lot of other guys, you know, calling online talking about how they have a hard time dealing with porn addictions and I’d like to ask request for healing of my own. I, you know, it’s been ongoing for a number of years starting and stopping but, yeah, I just wanted to…with that and just ask for a prayer request there as well as my own personal health as I’m dealing with a few issues regards to allergies. Thank you.

Yes, my name is Dale Dennis. I have pancreatic cancer and I was informed of this in May of 2018. The reason for my call is I have a little brother that’s about 45 and he says that he can’t go on if something happens to me. So, I would like to have prayer for him. __. And also, prayer for my family and myself. My brother’s name is Mark Dennis. Our father passed away when I was 12 and my brother was 10. And then my mother got hit by a car, got hit head-on. She passed away later. All of our aunts, uncles on the Dennis side have passed away. My grandfather’s __ passed away as well. __ partner, she passed away from cancer. __ passed away. So, we’ve had a lot of death in our family. __ have passed away. I love the Lord. I have faith. I have faith and…maybe I can beat this cancer. Only 5% that have pancreatic cancer survive. __…

Good morning DABbers my name is Anna and I’m from Los Angeles. I am calling this early morning because I’m just under a lot of pressure and are a lot of desires and dreams in my heart that I’ve been praying for for a long time and I wanted to ask all of you to join me in prayer. The first is that I’m dealing with a bully at work and he’s a man. He’s been getting to the point where authorities have to be involved. It’s not only that I’m disturbed by his bullying behavior but I’m really bothered by the emotions that it brings up in me and really trying to press through and grow in not allowing what people say to me to ruffle my feathers and bother me but also be wise about what is not appropriate behavior, but please pray for wisdom. __ with my health. I’ve been losing my hair and I’ve been breaking out all over my body and the doctors are trying to find out what’s going on. Please pray for healing and restoration of my hair. Especially as a woman, it’s so important for me to have my beautiful long hair. And also, please pray for my heart. I have not been in a relationship for four years since I lost my boyfriend to a car accident. And recently I met someone, his name is Cameron and his heart is in a lot of tumult as he’s coming back to Christ. Please pray that he would be fully restored to Christ and that our relationship would be restored in peace and in purpose and, yeah, and joy. His name is Cameron and I love him very much and I have so much hope for him and I know that he needs to come to Christ on his own terms. And also, lastly if you could pray for me, I started a…

Hi this is Jay from New York City. I am a medical student. I’ve called before. I’ve been listening to the Daily Audio Bible for about, I believe like 10 years now and I’m very thankful for this community. It’s always been present, especially during trying times. And I am very prayerful concerning DABbers needs. And I am also encouraged by their praise reports. It’s just a very real community and a very real place to just reflect and appreciate all that God is and all that he does. So, I’m currently…I’m nestled in a bit of a situation. It’s not impossible…as nothing is impossible with God. I’m in my last year of medical school and it’s been eight years. I kind of had to take a longer course because of my parent’s illnesses and because I also had some learning difficulties. I have a learning challenge. So, here I am, my last year, I’m getting a residency in __ and I took my step two CS which is part of the licensing procedure and I did not pass it. It’s comprised of clinical skills, applying clinical skills in a standardized setting with standardized patients who act like patients. I failed on many components and if you fail one component you fail the exam. So, I did not pass and it poses a little bit of a challenge…

Jeremiah Threatened With Death

26 Early in the reign of Jehoiakim(A) son of Josiah king of Judah, this word came from the Lord: “This is what the Lord says: Stand in the courtyard(B) of the Lord’s house and speak to all the people of the towns of Judah who come to worship in the house of the Lord.(C) Tell(D) them everything I command you; do not omit(E) a word. Perhaps they will listen and each will turn(F) from their evil ways. Then I will relent(G) and not inflict on them the disaster I was planning because of the evil they have done. Say to them, ‘This is what the Lord says: If you do not listen(H) to me and follow my law,(I) which I have set before you, and if you do not listen to the words of my servants the prophets, whom I have sent to you again and again (though you have not listened(J)), then I will make this house like Shiloh(K) and this city a curse[a](L) among all the nations of the earth.’”

The priests, the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speak these words in the house of the Lord. But as soon as Jeremiah finished telling all the people everything the Lord had commanded(M) him to say, the priests, the prophets and all the people seized(N) him and said, “You must die!(O) Why do you prophesy in the Lord’s name that this house will be like Shiloh and this city will be desolate and deserted?”(P) And all the people crowded(Q) around Jeremiah in the house of the Lord.

10 When the officials(R) of Judah heard about these things, they went up from the royal palace to the house of the Lord and took their places at the entrance of the New Gate(S) of the Lord’s house. 11 Then the priests and the prophets said to the officials and all the people, “This man should be sentenced to death(T) because he has prophesied against this city. You have heard it with your own ears!”(U)

12 Then Jeremiah said to all the officials(V) and all the people: “The Lord sent me to prophesy(W) against this house and this city all the things you have heard.(X) 13 Now reform(Y) your ways and your actions and obey(Z) the Lord your God. Then the Lord will relent(AA) and not bring the disaster he has pronounced against you. 14 As for me, I am in your hands;(AB) do with me whatever you think is good and right. 15 Be assured, however, that if you put me to death, you will bring the guilt of innocent blood(AC) on yourselves and on this city and on those who live in it, for in truth the Lord has sent me to you to speak all these words(AD) in your hearing.”

16 Then the officials(AE) and all the people said to the priests and the prophets, “This man should not be sentenced to death!(AF) He has spoken to us in the name of the Lord our God.”

17 Some of the elders of the land stepped forward and said to the entire assembly of people, 18 “Micah(AG) of Moresheth prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah. He told all the people of Judah, ‘This is what the Lord Almighty says:

“‘Zion(AH) will be plowed like a field,
Jerusalem will become a heap of rubble,(AI)
the temple hill(AJ) a mound overgrown with thickets.’[b](AK)

19 “Did Hezekiah king of Judah or anyone else in Judah put him to death? Did not Hezekiah(AL) fear the Lord and seek(AM) his favor? And did not the Lord relent,(AN) so that he did not bring the disaster(AO) he pronounced against them? We are about to bring a terrible disaster(AP) on ourselves!”

20 (Now Uriah son of Shemaiah from Kiriath Jearim(AQ) was another man who prophesied in the name of the Lord; he prophesied the same things against this city and this land as Jeremiah did. 21 When King Jehoiakim(AR) and all his officers and officials(AS) heard his words, the king was determined to put him to death.(AT) But Uriah heard of it and fled(AU) in fear to Egypt. 22 King Jehoiakim, however, sent Elnathan(AV) son of Akbor to Egypt, along with some other men. 23 They brought Uriah out of Egypt and took him to King Jehoiakim, who had him struck down with a sword(AW) and his body thrown into the burial place of the common people.)(AX)

24 Furthermore, Ahikam(AY) son of Shaphan supported Jeremiah, and so he was not handed over to the people to be put to death.

Judah to Serve Nebuchadnezzar

27 Early in the reign of Zedekiah[c](AZ) son of Josiah king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from the Lord: This is what the Lord said to me: “Make a yoke(BA) out of straps and crossbars and put it on your neck. Then send(BB) word to the kings of Edom, Moab, Ammon,(BC) Tyre and Sidon(BD) through the envoys who have come to Jerusalem to Zedekiah king of Judah. Give them a message for their masters and say, ‘This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: “Tell this to your masters: With my great power and outstretched arm(BE) I made(BF) the earth and its people and the animals(BG) that are on it, and I give(BH) it to anyone I please. Now I will give all your countries into the hands of my servant(BI) Nebuchadnezzar(BJ) king of Babylon; I will make even the wild animals subject to him.(BK) All nations will serve(BL) him and his son and his grandson until the time(BM) for his land comes; then many nations and great kings will subjugate(BN) him.

“‘“If, however, any nation or kingdom will not serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon or bow its neck under his yoke, I will punish(BO) that nation with the sword,(BP) famine(BQ) and plague,(BR) declares the Lord, until I destroy it by his hand. So do not listen to your prophets,(BS) your diviners,(BT) your interpreters of dreams,(BU) your mediums(BV) or your sorcerers(BW) who tell you, ‘You will not serve(BX) the king of Babylon.’ 10 They prophesy lies(BY) to you that will only serve to remove(BZ) you far from your lands; I will banish you and you will perish. 11 But if any nation will bow its neck under the yoke(CA) of the king of Babylon and serve him, I will let that nation remain in its own land to till it and to live(CB) there, declares the Lord.”’”

12 I gave the same message to Zedekiah king of Judah. I said, “Bow your neck under the yoke(CC) of the king of Babylon; serve him and his people, and you will live.(CD) 13 Why will you and your people die(CE) by the sword, famine and plague(CF) with which the Lord has threatened any nation that will not serve the king of Babylon? 14 Do not listen(CG) to the words of the prophets(CH) who say to you, ‘You will not serve the king of Babylon,’ for they are prophesying lies(CI) to you. 15 ‘I have not sent(CJ) them,’ declares the Lord. ‘They are prophesying lies in my name.(CK) Therefore, I will banish you and you will perish,(CL) both you and the prophets who prophesy to you.’”

16 Then I said to the priests and all these people, “This is what the Lord says: Do not listen to the prophets who say, ‘Very soon now the articles(CM) from the Lord’s house will be brought back from Babylon.’ They are prophesying lies to you. 17 Do not listen(CN) to them. Serve the king of Babylon, and you will live.(CO) Why should this city become a ruin? 18 If they are prophets and have the word of the Lord, let them plead(CP) with the Lord Almighty that the articles remaining in the house of the Lord and in the palace of the king of Judah and in Jerusalem not be taken to Babylon. 19 For this is what the Lord Almighty says about the pillars, the bronze Sea,(CQ) the movable stands and the other articles(CR) that are left in this city, 20 which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon did not take away when he carried(CS) Jehoiachin[d](CT) son of Jehoiakim king of Judah into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon, along with all the nobles of Judah and Jerusalem— 21 yes, this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says about the things that are left in the house of the Lord and in the palace of the king of Judah and in Jerusalem: 22 ‘They will be taken(CU) to Babylon and there they will remain until the day(CV) I come for them,’ declares the Lord. ‘Then I will bring(CW) them back and restore them to this place.’”

2 Thessalonians 3

Request for Prayer

As for other matters, brothers and sisters,(A) pray for us(B) that the message of the Lord(C) may spread rapidly and be honored, just as it was with you.(D) And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil people,(E) for not everyone has faith. But the Lord is faithful,(F) and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.(G) We have confidence(H) in the Lord that you are doing and will continue to do the things we command. May the Lord direct your hearts(I) into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.

Warning Against Idleness

In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ,(J) we command you, brothers and sisters, to keep away from(K) every believer who is idle and disruptive(L) and does not live according to the teaching[a] you received from us.(M) For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example.(N) We were not idle when we were with you, nor did we eat anyone’s food without paying for it. On the contrary, we worked(O) night and day, laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you. We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help,(P) but in order to offer ourselves as a model for you to imitate.(Q) 10 For even when we were with you,(R) we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work(S) shall not eat.”

11 We hear that some among you are idle and disruptive. They are not busy; they are busybodies.(T) 12 Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ(U) to settle down and earn the food they eat.(V) 13 And as for you, brothers and sisters, never tire of doing what is good.(W)

14 Take special note of anyone who does not obey our instruction in this letter. Do not associate with them,(X) in order that they may feel ashamed.(Y) 15 Yet do not regard them as an enemy, but warn them as you would a fellow believer.(Z)

Final Greetings

16 Now may the Lord of peace(AA) himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.(AB)

17 I, Paul, write this greeting in my own hand,(AC) which is the distinguishing mark in all my letters. This is how I write.

18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.(AD)

Psalm 85

Psalm 85[a]

For the director of music. Of the Sons of Korah. A psalm.

You, Lord, showed favor to your land;
you restored the fortunes(A) of Jacob.
You forgave(B) the iniquity(C) of your people
and covered all their sins.[b]
You set aside all your wrath(D)
and turned from your fierce anger.(E)

Restore(F) us again, God our Savior,(G)
and put away your displeasure toward us.
Will you be angry with us forever?(H)
Will you prolong your anger through all generations?
Will you not revive(I) us again,
that your people may rejoice(J) in you?
Show us your unfailing love,(K) Lord,
and grant us your salvation.(L)

I will listen to what God the Lord says;
he promises peace(M) to his people, his faithful servants—
but let them not turn to folly.(N)
Surely his salvation(O) is near those who fear him,
that his glory(P) may dwell in our land.

10 Love and faithfulness(Q) meet together;
righteousness(R) and peace kiss each other.
11 Faithfulness springs forth from the earth,
and righteousness(S) looks down from heaven.
12 The Lord will indeed give what is good,(T)
and our land will yield(U) its harvest.
13 Righteousness goes before him
and prepares the way for his steps.

Jeremiah 23:21-25:38, 2 Thessalonians 2:1-17, Psalms 84:1-12, Proverbs 25:15

Today is the 14th day of October welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I’m Brian. And as every day, as is the case every day, it’s a pleasure to be here with you as we open the threshold, walk-through into a brand-new, sparkly, shiny week. And we will move through this week and move through the center of another month as we’re doing it. Of course, we will pick up where we left off, but we will read from the New International Version this week. And, so, picking up where we left off brings us back into the book of Jeremiah chapter 23 verse 21 to 25 verse 38 today.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word, we thank You for another week, we thank You for another threshold to walk-through into a shiny, sparkly, new week, and we look into this week and realize it’s all out in front of us. We may have lots of plans that are for this week, but none of them have been accomplished, everything is shiny and new and we choose to turn to Your Holy Spirit and invite Your leadership, Your guidance, Your comfort, and Your will for our lives. That’s what we want this week to look like. So, come Holy Spirit, we pray. We surrender to You and Your lordship. We humble ourselves before You and ask that You would lead us into all truth in the coming days, we pray. In Jesus’ name we ask. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Yes, shalom shalom Daily Audio Bible people…and it is Wednesday, October 10th at 530 in the evening and I was listening to my reading for today and after the reading I heard a lady, I don’t remember your name, but you were raped when you are 17 and it was 20 years ago and you have never forgotten and he was a Christian whose name was Christian and my heart just broke for you honey, my heart just broke for you. I’m going to be praying for you. I came from an abusive home too. My first father was…almost killed by mother when I was little and I had four brothers and two sisters. There was a lot of abuse going on in my early years, but I can’t imagine to be in your shoes as a virgin girl, young girl, to have that stolen from you. And all I can say is keep listening to the Daily Audio Bible and you will hear comfort come to your soul. And I just want to wash over you with my prayers, surround you with my faith and my love, and I want to reach out my hand to hold you in my arms and just sit with you…

Hi, this is Donnie from California and today is October 10th and I just heard a girl call in. I couldn’t hear her first name but I think it was Gee, her nickname, and I want to tell you I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry that that happened to you. It should have never happened to you. I was raped when I was 12 but I got justification because I put him in jail. And you have nobody to justify you but the Lord. And I got your back girl. I’m gonna to pray for you every day. And I’m so sorry that that happened to you and you shouldn’t let it affect you. You should just __ your eyes and pray that God will help you to forget this situation, not forget it, because you’ll never forget it, but just forget the situation. And my gosh girl, I’m on your side and I’m so sorry this happened to you. Bye-bye.

Hi, this is Deb from Franklin Wisconsin or as I go, by Wondering Widow of the Word. This goes out to Dr. John. You had called on October 7th about your daughter Phoebe. I can relate. I’m a nurse. I am an oncology hematology nurse and it is a difficult field. There’s so much to learn in there’s much changing daily but I just encourage Phoebe that she has the mind of Christ and she can do all things through Christ who strengthens her. That’s a verse that I hung onto going to nursing school and God is so faithful and He can use a doctor and He can use a nurse in so many ways to touch lives in ways that nobody else can. Encourage Phoebe today that she has a calling on her life and ask her to follow through and just persevere through and God will be with her and strengthen her. Goodbye.

Hi DAB family this is Gigi from Gainesville and I’m calling in a prayer for Dr. John’s daughter Phoebe and also a praise. The praise is that I got through my semester…mini semester. Man it was so hard for me but I have this term paper and I had to pray, seriously, every sentence out. And I cried a lot too but I turned it in and it turned out great, so, thank you God. And the prayer is for Dr. John’s daughter Phoebe. I don’t know if she listens or not but I’ve been praying for you every day since I heard Dr. John’s prayer for her. I just really relate, I guess it struck a chord. And, so, I’m just gonna pray for her right now. Dear God thank You so much for Phoebe and all that she’s going through __ impossible but You are with her and You make the most impossible possible so that she can call on You and You are there and You will help her. Thank You God for overcoming the __, for overcoming sin, for overcoming darkness, for overcoming death, the grave, sickness, everything. You have overcome, and You live within us that believe in You and look to You and You make us overcome. Thank You God, for You are our help and our salvation. And also seeking and helping…I mean eating all the really great things that You giving us to feel better. Thank You God, that we can pass on all our cares upon You __ there for us. We thank You for the perfect peace that You give us when we are thinking about You. You give us that perfect peace that passes all understanding.

Jeremiah 23:21-25:38

21 I did not send(A) these prophets,
yet they have run with their message;
I did not speak to them,
yet they have prophesied.
22 But if they had stood in my council,(B)
they would have proclaimed(C) my words to my people
and would have turned(D) them from their evil ways
and from their evil deeds.(E)

23 “Am I only a God nearby,(F)
declares the Lord,
“and not a God far away?
24 Who can hide(G) in secret places
so that I cannot see them?”
declares the Lord.
“Do not I fill heaven and earth?”(H)
declares the Lord.

25 “I have heard what the prophets say who prophesy lies(I) in my name. They say, ‘I had a dream!(J) I had a dream!’ 26 How long will this continue in the hearts of these lying prophets, who prophesy the delusions(K) of their own minds?(L) 27 They think the dreams they tell one another will make my people forget(M) my name, just as their ancestors forgot(N) my name through Baal worship.(O) 28 Let the prophet who has a dream(P) recount the dream, but let the one who has my word(Q) speak it faithfully. For what has straw to do with grain?” declares the Lord. 29 “Is not my word like fire,”(R) declares the Lord, “and like a hammer(S) that breaks a rock in pieces?

30 “Therefore,” declares the Lord, “I am against(T) the prophets(U) who steal from one another words supposedly from me. 31 Yes,” declares the Lord, “I am against the prophets who wag their own tongues and yet declare, ‘The Lord declares.’(V) 32 Indeed, I am against those who prophesy false dreams,(W)” declares the Lord. “They tell them and lead my people astray(X) with their reckless lies,(Y) yet I did not send(Z) or appoint them. They do not benefit(AA) these people in the least,” declares the Lord.

False Prophecy

33 “When these people, or a prophet or a priest, ask you, ‘What is the message(AB) from the Lord?’ say to them, ‘What message? I will forsake(AC) you, declares the Lord.’ 34 If a prophet or a priest or anyone else claims, ‘This is a message(AD) from the Lord,’ I will punish(AE) them and their household. 35 This is what each of you keeps saying to your friends and other Israelites: ‘What is the Lord’s answer?’(AF) or ‘What has the Lord spoken?’ 36 But you must not mention ‘a message from the Lord’ again, because each one’s word becomes their own message. So you distort(AG) the words of the living God,(AH) the Lord Almighty, our God. 37 This is what you keep saying to a prophet: ‘What is the Lord’s answer to you?’ or ‘What has the Lord spoken?’ 38 Although you claim, ‘This is a message from the Lord,’ this is what the Lord says: You used the words, ‘This is a message from the Lord,’ even though I told you that you must not claim, ‘This is a message from the Lord.’ 39 Therefore, I will surely forget you and cast(AI) you out of my presence along with the city I gave to you and your ancestors. 40 I will bring on you everlasting disgrace(AJ)—everlasting shame that will not be forgotten.”

Two Baskets of Figs

24 After Jehoiachin[a](AK) son of Jehoiakim king of Judah and the officials, the skilled workers and the artisans of Judah were carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon by Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, the Lord showed me two baskets of figs(AL) placed in front of the temple of the Lord. One basket had very good figs, like those that ripen early;(AM) the other basket had very bad(AN) figs, so bad they could not be eaten.

Then the Lord asked me, “What do you see,(AO) Jeremiah?”

“Figs,” I answered. “The good ones are very good, but the bad ones are so bad they cannot be eaten.”

Then the word of the Lord came to me: “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘Like these good figs, I regard as good the exiles from Judah, whom I sent(AP) away from this place to the land of the Babylonians.[b] My eyes will watch over them for their good, and I will bring them back(AQ) to this land. I will build(AR) them up and not tear them down; I will plant(AS) them and not uproot them. I will give them a heart to know(AT) me, that I am the Lord. They will be my people,(AU) and I will be their God, for they will return(AV) to me with all their heart.(AW)

“‘But like the bad(AX) figs, which are so bad they cannot be eaten,’ says the Lord, ‘so will I deal with Zedekiah(AY) king of Judah, his officials(AZ) and the survivors(BA) from Jerusalem, whether they remain in this land or live in Egypt.(BB) I will make them abhorrent(BC) and an offense to all the kingdoms of the earth, a reproach and a byword,(BD) a curse[c](BE) and an object of ridicule, wherever I banish(BF) them. 10 I will send the sword,(BG) famine(BH) and plague(BI) against them until they are destroyed from the land I gave to them and their ancestors.(BJ)’”

Seventy Years of Captivity

25 The word came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah in the fourth year of Jehoiakim(BK) son of Josiah king of Judah, which was the first year of Nebuchadnezzar(BL) king of Babylon. So Jeremiah the prophet said to all the people of Judah(BM) and to all those living in Jerusalem: For twenty-three years—from the thirteenth year of Josiah(BN) son of Amon king of Judah until this very day—the word of the Lord has come to me and I have spoken to you again and again,(BO) but you have not listened.(BP)

And though the Lord has sent all his servants the prophets(BQ) to you again and again, you have not listened or paid any attention.(BR) They said, “Turn(BS) now, each of you, from your evil ways and your evil practices, and you can stay in the land(BT) the Lord gave to you and your ancestors for ever and ever. Do not follow other gods(BU) to serve and worship them; do not arouse my anger with what your hands have made. Then I will not harm you.”

“But you did not listen to me,” declares the Lord, “and you have aroused(BV) my anger with what your hands have made,(BW) and you have brought harm(BX) to yourselves.”

Therefore the Lord Almighty says this: “Because you have not listened to my words, I will summon(BY) all the peoples of the north(BZ) and my servant(CA) Nebuchadnezzar(CB) king of Babylon,” declares the Lord, “and I will bring them against this land and its inhabitants and against all the surrounding nations. I will completely destroy[d](CC) them and make them an object of horror and scorn,(CD) and an everlasting ruin.(CE) 10 I will banish from them the sounds(CF) of joy and gladness, the voices of bride and bridegroom,(CG) the sound of millstones(CH) and the light of the lamp.(CI) 11 This whole country will become a desolate wasteland,(CJ) and these nations will serve(CK) the king of Babylon seventy years.(CL)

12 “But when the seventy years(CM) are fulfilled, I will punish the king of Babylon(CN) and his nation, the land of the Babylonians,[e] for their guilt,” declares the Lord, “and will make it desolate(CO) forever. 13 I will bring on that land all the things I have spoken against it, all that are written(CP) in this book and prophesied by Jeremiah against all the nations. 14 They themselves will be enslaved(CQ) by many nations(CR) and great kings; I will repay(CS) them according to their deeds and the work of their hands.”

The Cup of God’s Wrath

15 This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, said to me: “Take from my hand this cup(CT) filled with the wine of my wrath and make all the nations to whom I send(CU) you drink it. 16 When they drink(CV) it, they will stagger(CW) and go mad(CX) because of the sword(CY) I will send among them.”

17 So I took the cup from the Lord’s hand and made all the nations to whom he sent(CZ) me drink it: 18 Jerusalem(DA) and the towns of Judah, its kings and officials, to make them a ruin(DB) and an object of horror and scorn,(DC) a curse[f](DD)—as they are today;(DE) 19 Pharaoh king(DF) of Egypt,(DG) his attendants, his officials and all his people, 20 and all the foreign people there; all the kings of Uz;(DH) all the kings of the Philistines(DI) (those of Ashkelon,(DJ) Gaza,(DK) Ekron, and the people left at Ashdod); 21 Edom,(DL) Moab(DM) and Ammon;(DN) 22 all the kings of Tyre(DO) and Sidon;(DP) the kings of the coastlands(DQ) across the sea; 23 Dedan,(DR) Tema,(DS) Buz(DT) and all who are in distant places[g];(DU) 24 all the kings of Arabia(DV) and all the kings of the foreign people(DW) who live in the wilderness; 25 all the kings of Zimri,(DX) Elam(DY) and Media;(DZ) 26 and all the kings of the north,(EA) near and far, one after the other—all the kingdoms(EB) on the face of the earth. And after all of them, the king of Sheshak[h](EC) will drink it too.

27 “Then tell them, ‘This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Drink, get drunk(ED) and vomit, and fall to rise no more because of the sword(EE) I will send among you.’ 28 But if they refuse to take the cup from your hand and drink(EF), tell them, ‘This is what the Lord Almighty says: You must drink it! 29 See, I am beginning to bring disaster(EG) on the city that bears my Name,(EH) and will you indeed go unpunished?(EI) You will not go unpunished, for I am calling down a sword(EJ) on all(EK) who live on the earth,(EL) declares the Lord Almighty.’

30 “Now prophesy all these words against them and say to them:

“‘The Lord will roar(EM) from on high;
he will thunder(EN) from his holy dwelling(EO)
and roar mightily against his land.
He will shout like those who tread(EP) the grapes,
shout against all who live on the earth.
31 The tumult(EQ) will resound to the ends of the earth,
for the Lord will bring charges(ER) against the nations;
he will bring judgment(ES) on all(ET) mankind
and put the wicked to the sword,(EU)’”
declares the Lord.

32 This is what the Lord Almighty says:

“Look! Disaster(EV) is spreading
from nation to nation;(EW)
a mighty storm(EX) is rising
from the ends of the earth.”(EY)

33 At that time those slain(EZ) by the Lord will be everywhere—from one end of the earth to the other. They will not be mourned or gathered(FA) up or buried,(FB) but will be like dung lying on the ground.

34 Weep and wail, you shepherds;(FC)
roll(FD) in the dust, you leaders of the flock.
For your time to be slaughtered(FE) has come;
you will fall like the best of the rams.[i](FF)
35 The shepherds will have nowhere to flee,
the leaders of the flock no place to escape.(FG)
36 Hear the cry(FH) of the shepherds,(FI)
the wailing of the leaders of the flock,
for the Lord is destroying their pasture.
37 The peaceful meadows will be laid waste
because of the fierce anger of the Lord.
38 Like a lion(FJ) he will leave his lair,
and their land will become desolate(FK)
because of the sword[j] of the oppressor(FL)
and because of the Lord’s fierce anger.(FM)

2 Thessalonians 2

The Man of Lawlessness

Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ(A) and our being gathered to him,(B) we ask you, brothers and sisters, not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by the teaching allegedly from us—whether by a prophecy or by word of mouth or by letter(C)—asserting that the day of the Lord(D) has already come.(E) Don’t let anyone deceive you(F) in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion(G) occurs and the man of lawlessness[a] is revealed,(H) the man doomed to destruction. He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God(I) or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God.(J)

Don’t you remember that when I was with you I used to tell you these things?(K) And now you know what is holding him back,(L) so that he may be revealed at the proper time. For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back(M) will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed,(N) whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth(O) and destroy by the splendor of his coming.(P) The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan(Q) works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders(R) that serve the lie, 10 and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing.(S) They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.(T) 11 For this reason God sends them(U) a powerful delusion(V) so that they will believe the lie(W) 12 and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.(X)

Stand Firm

13 But we ought always to thank God for you,(Y) brothers and sisters loved by the Lord, because God chose you as firstfruits[b](Z) to be saved(AA) through the sanctifying work of the Spirit(AB) and through belief in the truth. 14 He called you(AC) to this through our gospel,(AD) that you might share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

15 So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm(AE) and hold fast to the teachings[c] we passed on to you,(AF) whether by word of mouth or by letter.

16 May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father,(AG) who loved us(AH) and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, 17 encourage(AI) your hearts and strengthen(AJ) you in every good deed and word.

Psalm 84

Psalm 84[a]

For the director of music. According to gittith.[b] Of the Sons of Korah. A psalm.

How lovely is your dwelling place,(A)
Lord Almighty!
My soul yearns,(B) even faints,
for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and my flesh cry out
for the living God.(C)
Even the sparrow has found a home,
and the swallow a nest for herself,
where she may have her young—
a place near your altar,(D)
Lord Almighty,(E) my King(F) and my God.(G)
Blessed are those who dwell in your house;
they are ever praising you.[c]

Blessed are those whose strength(H) is in you,
whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.(I)
As they pass through the Valley of Baka,
they make it a place of springs;(J)
the autumn(K) rains also cover it with pools.[d]
They go from strength to strength,(L)
till each appears(M) before God in Zion.(N)

Hear my prayer,(O) Lord God Almighty;
listen to me, God of Jacob.
Look on our shield,[e](P) O God;
look with favor on your anointed one.(Q)

10 Better is one day in your courts
than a thousand elsewhere;
I would rather be a doorkeeper(R) in the house of my God
than dwell in the tents of the wicked.
11 For the Lord God is a sun(S) and shield;(T)
the Lord bestows favor and honor;
no good thing does he withhold(U)
from those whose walk is blameless.

12 Lord Almighty,
blessed(V) is the one who trusts in you.

Jeremiah 22:1-23:20, 2 Thessalonians 1:1-12, Psalms 83:1-18, Proverbs 25:11-14

Today is the 13th day of October. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian. It’s great to be here with you as we close down another week. The rhythm just keeps continuing like a heartbeat and here we are at the end of another of our weeks together. And we start this journey every January 1st with 52 of these weeks out in front of us and we’re down to eleven more. Eleven more times we get to close down the week together before we end this year together. So we are moving right along. And in order to move right along, let’s dive in. We’re reading from the Amplified Bible this week. Jeremiah 22:1-23: 20 today.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for another week in Your word. And as we were considering at the beginning, we have fewer weeks than we had and we’re able to number them and count them down as we move to the end of the year. And we’re thankful. We can look back and see Your faithfulness and Your mercy in our lives. Father, it is our desire to finish strong. To step into these remaining weeks and surrender to You and enjoy this coming season in Your presence as we move further and deeper into the center of Your will as the fruit of the Spirit continues to be cultivated in our lives. And as Your Holy Spirit continues to lead us into all truth. This is our desire and we look to You for guidance. Come Holy Spirit we pray. In Jesus name we ask. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Good morning family, this is Erin in Michigan. It is Wednesday October…gosh what it is…I don’t even know…October 10th and my heart is broken…for a million reasons really. They just found 120 something missing children that were in a human trafficking situation here in Michigan. So, that’s breaking my heart. The local school that I work at has just had another issue with someone who’s preying on children. And…just…my heart…my heart is heavy…and there are things in my life that have harmed me and caused me to…to grow fearful and nervous Lord. And, you know, not every day but just when I think of it. And then Gee called in today Lord, spoke of her issues, and spoke of someone in the name of Christ who treated her like she wasn’t made in the image of God and it just killed me Lord that she had to say, I don’t care about the politics. We have to discount the fact that women across our nation, across our world have been misused and have been harmed in the search of whatever it is that person wanted. And Lord, I just lift up our brokenness and I lift up our pain and our need for healing to You, the great physician Lord. And You know how to help us and You know how to heal us Lord and we just pray for healing across the world Lord for women, for girls Lord. And we pray for our men. We know that they are made in Your image and we know that they are stronger and better than they are acting Lord. And we know that it’s not all of them. We lift everyone up to You Lord in Your holy and precious name. Amen. Thank you, family. Love you. Bye.

Hello this is Scottish Tom calling from the Cleveland Ohio area. So, I was saying my morning prayers this morning and I was praying for the community as I do all…every morning. And I also pray for the people who don’t call in and also the people that don’t call in because they maybe think that their problems are unimportant to the community. I just wanted to say that no problem is unimportant to the community. One person may be calling in because they’ve got cancer and you feel stupid calling because you’ve got a headache that day. But for every one person that maybe says, well that was a dumb prayer request, or why are they calling about that, there’s plenty of others that are saying, well, I can relate to that. I’m gonna pray for that person today. It also got me thinking about Jesus first miracle. It wasn’t raising someone from the dead, and it wasn’t healing someone from the sick, or making the blind see. It was a bride and groom at their wedding who were embarrassed because they were about to run out of alcohol and Jesus turned water into wine. Now that’s not a life or death situation. Maybe for the servants who thought they might run out. But, I don’t know. But yeah, it wasn’t a life and death situation but He saved their embarrassment by making wine and it was the best wine that people had tasted. So, never think that your problems are so small or that you can’t call in about them. And as I say, even those that don’t call in, I do pray for you every morning. Take care everyone and I will call in again soon. Bye.

Hi it’s October 10th and I just listened to the Daily Audio Bible and then the prayer requests and the prayer read quest that came in from…I think it’s Gee. It just really broke my heart. I just want to let you…I wanted to let you know that I’m praying for you and that Jesus Christ heals you. What happened to you is horrible but you can let that go and it is over, it’s done, it’s the past. But you have nothing to feel guilt or shame about. You’re a new creation in Christ and He just…just like Brian said today in the message…he wants you to be stronger because of it. There are so many others out there. I was raped when I was 13. I was molested for years and years before that by my pastor and grandparent. So, God has made my life beautiful and I know that He wants that for you. So, please hear that and please know that you can have a happy and good life and Jesus Christ heals you. Okay? Sending my love and prayers.

Hi, my name is Kim, I’m a first-time caller and I just wanted to call and reference a few calls that have really touched my heart. I want to talk to the lady, I believe you said you’re going to refer to the name Gee. I listened today, 10/10 and you were raped at 17. And I just wanted to commend you for taking the step forward and letting that go. And I just want to tell you that you are not alone. I want you to know that it is not your fault. And you have taken the first step to healing and I will be praying for you. Margo in Australia, I heard your call today too. I’m going down the same road as you, trying to wean off of antidepressants. So, know I’m praying for you. Kaylee, whose son is 11, can I tell you that your story resonates with exactly what I’m going through with my son and daughter right now? I am praying for your son and just know that he is at an age where he is still impressionable and I am praying that he gets the help he needs. And you are a great mom. Thank you for calling. Candace from Oregon, I’m praying for Micah. Your prayer about a month ago really spoke to my heart. Thank you for being transparent. The lady from Canada whose son is on the street, I’m praying for him and for you. I love you all. Hope you’re having a great day. Please be in prayer for my family. Thank you.

Jeremiah 22:1-23:20

Warning of Jerusalem’s Fall

22 Thus says the Lord, “Go down to the house of the king of Judah and speak this word there: ‘Hear the word of the Lord, O king of Judah, you who sit on the throne of David—you and your servants and your people who enter by these gates. Thus says the Lord, “Execute justice and righteousness, and rescue the one who has been robbed from the hand of his oppressor. And do no wrong; do no violence to the stranger, the fatherless, or the widow, nor shed innocent blood in this place. For if you will indeed obey this word, then kings will enter through the gates of this palace, sitting in David’s place on his throne, riding in chariots and on horses, even the king himself and his servants and his people. But if you will not hear and obey these words, I swear [an oath] by Myself,” says the Lord, “that this house will become a desolation.”’” For thus says the Lord in regard to the house of the king of Judah:

“You are [as valuable] to Me as [the green pastures of] Gilead [east of the Jordan]
Or as the [plentiful] summit of Lebanon [west of the Jordan],
Yet most certainly [if you will not listen to Me] I will make you a wilderness,
And uninhabited cities.

“For I will prepare and appoint destroyers [to execute My judgments] against you,
Each with his weapons;
And they will cut down your [palaces built of] choicest cedars
And throw them in the fire.

“Many nations will pass by this city; and each man will say to another, ‘Why has the Lord done this to this great city?’ Then they will answer, ‘Because the people ignored and abandoned the [solemn] covenant with the Lord their God and worshiped other gods and served them.’”

10
Do not weep for the dead or mourn for him;
But weep bitterly for the one who goes away [into exile],
For he will never return
And see his native country [again].

11 For thus says the Lord in regard to Shallum (Jehoahaz) the [third] son of Josiah, king of Judah, who reigned instead of Josiah his father and who went from this place, “Shallum will not return here anymore; 12 he will die in the place where they led him captive and not see this land again.

Messages about the Kings

13
“Woe (judgment is coming) to him who builds his house by [acts of] unrighteousness
And his upper chambers by injustice,
Who uses his neighbor’s service without pay
And does not give him wages [for his work],
14
Who says, ‘I will build myself a spacious house
With large upper rooms,
And cut out its [wide] windows,
And panel it with cedar and paint it vermilion.’
15
“Do you think that you become a king because you have much more cedar [in your palace than Solomon]?
Did not your father [Josiah], as he ate and drank,
Do just and righteous acts [being upright and in right standing with God]?
Then all was well with him.
16
“He defended the cause of the afflicted and needy;
Then all was well.
Is that not what it means to know Me?”
Says the Lord.
17
“But your eyes and your heart
Are only intent on your own dishonest gain,
On shedding innocent blood,
On oppression and extortion and violence.”

18 Therefore thus says the Lord in regard to [a]Jehoiakim the [second] son of Josiah, king of Judah,

“The relatives will not lament (mourn over with expressions of grief) for him:
‘Alas, my brother!’ or, ‘Alas, sister,’ [how great our loss]!
The subjects will not lament for him:
‘Alas, master!’ or ‘Alas, majesty [how great was his glory]!’
19
[b]He shall be buried with the burial of a donkey—
Dragged off and thrown out beyond the gates of Jerusalem.
20
“Go up [north] to Lebanon and cry out,
And raise your voice in [the hills of] Bashan [across the Jordan];
Cry out also from [c]Abarim,
For all your lovers (allies) have been destroyed.(A)
21
“I spoke to you in your [times of] prosperity,
But you said, ‘I will not listen!’
This has been your attitude and practice from your youth;
You have not obeyed My voice.
22
“The wind [of adversity] will carry away all your shepherds (rulers, statesmen),
And your lovers (allies) will go into exile.
Surely then you will be ashamed and humiliated and disgraced
Because of all your wickedness.
23
“O inhabitant of [Jerusalem, whose palaces are made from the cedars of] Lebanon,
You who nest in the cedars,
How you will groan and how miserable you will be when pains come on you,
Pain like a woman in childbirth!(B)

24 “As I live,” says the Lord, “though [d]Coniah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah were the signet [ring] on My right hand, yet would I pull you (Coniah) off. 25 And I will place you in the hand of those who seek your life and in the hand of those whom you fear, even into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and into the hand of the [e]Chaldeans. 26 I will hurl you and the mother who gave you birth into another country where you were not born, and there you will die. 27 But as for the land to which they long to return, they will not return to it.

28
“Is this man [King] Coniah a despised, broken jar?
Is he a vessel in which no one takes pleasure?
Why are he and his [royal] descendants hurled out
And cast into a land which they do not know or understand?
29
“O land, land, land,
Hear the word of the Lord!

30 Thus says the Lord,

‘Write this man [Coniah] down as childless,
A man who will not prosper (succeed) in his lifetime;
For not one of his descendants will succeed
In sitting on the throne of David
Or ruling again in Judah.’”

The Coming Messiah: the Righteous Branch

23 “Woe to the shepherds (civil leaders, rulers) who are destroying and scattering the sheep of My pasture!” says the Lord. Therefore thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, in regard to the shepherds who care for and feed My people: “You have scattered My flock and driven them away, and have not attended to them; hear this, I am about to visit and attend to you for the evil of your deeds,” says the Lord. “Then I will gather the remnant of My flock out of all the countries to which I have driven them and bring them back to their folds and pastures; and they will be fruitful and multiply. I will set up shepherds over them who will feed them. And they will not be afraid any longer, nor be terrified, nor will any be missing,” says the Lord.

“Behold (listen closely), the days are coming,” says the Lord,
“When I will raise up for David a righteous Branch;
And He will reign as King and act wisely
And will do [those things that accomplish] justice and righteousness in the land.

“In His days Judah will be saved,
And Israel will dwell safely;
Now this is His name by which He will be called;
‘The Lord Our Righteousness.’(C)

“Therefore behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord, “when they will no longer say, ‘As the Lord lives, who brought up the children of Israel from the land of Egypt,’ but [they will say], ‘As the Lord lives, who brought up and led back the descendants of the house of Israel from the north country and from all the countries to which I had driven them.’ Then they will live in their own land.”(D)

False Prophets Denounced

Concerning the prophets:
My heart [says Jeremiah] is broken within me,
All my bones shake;
I have become like a drunken man,
A man whom wine has overcome,
Because of the Lord
And because of His holy words [declared against unfaithful leaders].
10
For the land is full of adulterers (unfaithful to God);
The land mourns because of the curse [of God upon it].
The pastures of the wilderness have dried up.
The course of action [of the false prophets] is evil and they rush into wickedness;
And their power is not right.
11
“For both [false] prophet and priest are ungodly (profane, polluted);
Even in My house I have found their wickedness,” says the Lord.
12
“Therefore their way will be to them like slippery paths
In the dark; they will be pushed and fall into them;
For I will bring disaster on them,
In the year of their punishment,” says the Lord.

13
“And I have seen a foolish and an offensive thing in the prophets of Samaria:
They prophesied by Baal and caused My people Israel to go astray.
14
“Also I have seen a horrible thing in the prophets of Jerusalem:
They commit adultery and walk in lies;
They encourage and strengthen the hands of evildoers,
So that no one has turned back from his wickedness.
All of them have become like Sodom to Me,
And her inhabitants like Gomorrah.

15 Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts in regard to the prophets,

‘Behold, I am going to feed them [the bitterness of] wormwood
And make them drink the poisonous water [of gall],
For from the [counterfeit] prophets of Jerusalem
Profaneness and ungodliness have spread into all the land.’”

16
Thus says the Lord of hosts,
“Do not listen to the words of the [false] prophets who prophesy to you.
They are teaching you worthless things and are leading you into futility;
They speak a vision of their own mind and imagination
And not [truth] from the mouth of the Lord.
17
“They are continually saying to those who despise Me [and My word],
‘The Lord has said, “You will have peace”’;
And they say to everyone who walks after the stubbornness of his own heart,
‘No evil will come on you.’
18
“But who [among them] has stood in the council of the Lord,
That he would perceive and hear His word?
Who has marked His word [noticing and observing and paying attention to it] and has [actually] heard it?
19
“Behold, the tempest of the Lord has gone forth in wrath,
A whirling tempest;
It will whirl and burst on the heads of the wicked.
20
“The anger of the Lord will not turn back
Until He has set in motion and accomplished the thoughts and intentions of His heart;
In the last days you will clearly understand it.

2 Thessalonians 1

Thanksgiving for Faith and Perseverance

Paul, Silvanus (Silas), and Timothy,

To the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace [inner calm and spiritual well-being] from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

We ought always and indeed are morally obligated [as those in debt] to give thanks to God for you, [a]brothers and sisters, as is fitting, because your faith is growing ever greater, and the [unselfish] [b]love of each one of you toward one another is continually increasing. Therefore, we speak of you with pride among the churches of God for your steadfastness [your unflinching endurance, and patience] and your firm faith in the midst of all the persecution and [crushing] distress which you endure. This is a positive proof of the righteous judgment of God [a sign of His fair verdict], so that you will be considered worthy of His kingdom, for which indeed you are suffering. For after all it is only just for God to repay with distress those who distress you, and to give relief to you who are so distressed and to us as well when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in a flame of fire, dealing out [full and complete] vengeance to those who do not [seek to] know God and to those who ignore and refuse to obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus [by choosing not to respond to Him]. These people will pay the penalty and endure the punishment of [c]everlasting destruction, banished from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, 10 when He comes to be glorified in His saints on that day [that is, glorified through the changed lives of those who have accepted Him as Savior and have been set apart for His purpose], and to be marveled at among all who have believed, because our testimony to you was believed and trusted [and confirmed in your lives]. 11 With this in view, we constantly pray for you, that our God will count you worthy of your calling [to faith] and with [His] power fulfill every desire for goodness, and complete [your] every work of faith, 12 so that the name of our Lord Jesus will be glorified in you [by what you do], and you in Him, according to the [precious] grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

  2. 2 Thessalonians 1:3 The key to understanding this and other statements about love is to know that this love (the Greek word agape) is not so much a matter of emotion as it is of doing things for the benefit of another person, that is, having an unselfish concern for another and a willingness to seek the best for another.

Psalm 83

God Implored to Confound His Enemies.

A Song. A Psalm of Asaph.

83 Do not keep silent, O God;
Do not hold Your peace or be still, O God.

For behold, Your enemies are in tumult,
And those who hate You have raised their heads [in hatred of You].(A)

They concoct crafty schemes against Your people,
And conspire together against Your hidden and precious ones.

They have said, “Come, and let us wipe them out as a nation;
Let the name of Israel be remembered no more.”

For they have conspired together with one mind;
Against You they make a covenant—

The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites,
Of Moab and the Hagrites,

Gebal and Ammon and Amalek,
Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre.

Assyria also has joined with them;
They have helped the children of Lot [the Ammonites and the Moabites] and have been an arm [of strength] to them. Selah.

Deal with them as [You did] with Midian,
As with Sisera and Jabin at the brook of Kishon,(B)
10
Who were destroyed at En-dor,
Who became like dung for the earth.
11
Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb
And all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,(C)
12
Who said, “Let us possess for ourselves
The pastures of God.”

13
O my God, make them like [a]whirling dust,
Like chaff before the wind [worthless and without substance].
14
Like fire consumes the forest,
And like the flame sets the mountains on fire,
15
So pursue them with Your tempest
And terrify them with [the violence of] Your storm.
16
Fill their faces with shame and disgrace,
That they may [persistently] seek Your name, O Lord.
17
Let them be ashamed and dismayed forever;
Yes, let them be humiliated and perish,
18
That they may know that You alone, whose name is the Lord,
Are the Most High over all the earth.

Proverbs 25:11-14

11
Like apples of gold in settings of silver
Is a word spoken at the right time.(A)
12
Like an earring of gold and an ornament of fine gold
Is a wise reprover to an ear that listens and learns.
13
Like the cold of snow [brought from the mountains] in the time of harvest,
So is a faithful messenger to those who send him;
For he refreshes the life of his masters.
14
Like clouds and wind without rain
Is a man who boasts falsely of gifts [he does not give].(B)

Jeremiah 19:1-21:14, 1 Thessalonians 5:4-28, Psalms 82:1-8, Proverbs 25:8-10

Today is the 12th day of October. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I’m Brian. It is an honor and a pleasure to be here with you today, right here, right now. And how crazy is it that we live in a time that this can even happen. Nevertheless, we do live at such a time and so we’ve come together around the global campfire to take the next step forward and the next step will continue us in the Amplified Bible, which is what we’re reading from this week. Jeremiah chapter 19, 20 and 21 today.

Commentary:

Okay. So, we just concluded Paul’s first letter to the Thessalonians. And typically, in Paul’s letters, like there’s this…this ending or concluding list of characteristics or postures that Paul is inviting his readers to live into, probably because Paul wanted to paint a picture for the congregations so that they could see what a transformed life should and could look like. And we don’t always read these lists correctly. We can read postures from Paul and then try to turn the list into an action plan for some sort of recipe of things that we’ve got to live further into rather than understanding that he’s offering a picture of what will become natural for us as we embrace our new nature. So, with that in mind, let’s just look at this closing list from First Thessalonians. Paul says, appreciate those who diligently work among you. Recognize, acknowledge and respect your leaders who are in charge over you in the Lord. He also says, admonish those of you who are out of line, the undisciplined, the unruly, the disorderly. Encourage the timid who lack spiritual courage. Help the spiritually weak. Be very patient with everyone, always controlling your temper. See that no one repays another with evil for evil but always seek that which is good for one another and for all people. Rejoice always and delight in your faith. Be unceasing and persistent in prayer in every situation no matter what the circumstances. Be thankful and continually give thanks to God for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus. Do not quench or subdue or be unresponsive to the working and guidance of the Holy Spirit. Do not scorn or reject gifts of prophecy or prophecies or spoken revelations or words of instruction or exhortation or warning but test all things carefully so you can recognize what is good. Hold firmly to that which is good. Abstain from every form of evil. Withdraw and keep away from it. Okay. So, there’s plenty of stuff to consider there. And it’s not a bad thing to look at that list or those characteristics that Paul is inviting the Thessalonians to aim their lives toward, it’s not bad to look at those and say, okay, here’s the places that I’m failing or here’s the places that I really need to focus in on and work on. That’s not a bad thing, but rather than looking at this as a collection of postures that reveal the ways that we’re failing, we should see what we are becoming. This is what comes naturally to a transformed person and transformation is a process. So, if, you know, reading back through that passage, if there were things that do not describe your life, that should describe your life, then you’re simply discovering areas that are in the process of being sanctified. And the only person…I mean…this is where we are headed…this is what it’s going to look like to become Christlike. The only person who can ultimately interfere with this process is you. So, let’s invite the Holy Spirit into those areas and begin to consciously turn to God, rather than consciously and continuously embracing old habits.

Prayer:

Father, we want this to look like our lives. What we want is to look like You. This is what we are invited to do. We are invited to become Christlike. We are invited to put on a new nature. And not just any nature, the nature of God. And this will transform us utterly. And the Scriptures, over and over, give us pictures of what that can look like. So, come Holy Spirit. Show us where we need to aim our lives. Show us the areas that we need to get mastery over rather than a struggle that is for the rest of our lives over anger or rage or lust or greed or envy or whatever it is that we might deal with. Rather than figuring out how we can struggle and live with this for the rest of our life, we would like to see mastery over it by the power of Your Holy Spirit. And this is possible. It simply requires our surrender. Come Holy Spirit. We surrender to You. In the name of Jesus, we ask these things. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hi, my name’s Nora David and I’m calling from a village called Mantaska Alaska. I am calling for prayer. We had a suicide here three weeks ago and our young people are still reeling from it. Please pray for our young people here in Alaska. I want to thank you and I appreciate that I can reach out with a call for help. This is the first time I’ve listened to the Audio Bible. It’s October 9th. Thank you again.

Good morning Daily Audio Bible family. This is His Beloved from California. First, I would just like to say I got my name when I was at the retreat in Georgia with the other women. We did a little exercise at the end and they lead us to ask God what our name was and that’s the name He gave me. So, this is His Beloved. Victoria Soldier, you prayed for me and I just want to say, praise report. I’m sure other of my family members are praying too. My test results came back positive. My doctor said it was a mistake. They scared me, they called me in to give me my results and it was a mistake. My test results were positive and fine and everything’s good. So, thank you, thank you, thank you. I’m so excited and happy. There’s a couple people that are weighing on my mind heavily that I’d like to pray for. There was a young woman with an 11-year-old boy. The story just broke me. And, so, Father God, I just raise up this 11-year-old boy. And You promised that You would make every crooked path straight and I just call on You now for blessing that family with healing, harmony, protection, Father God. I pray over this woman and her children, that You promised that every crooked path is made straight. And I believe this in the name of Jesus. Also, there is a gentleman who called in a while back about his mother, that she’s had been abused physically and emotionally and now I think his brother was taking care of her and the same thing was happening. So, Father God, I cast this off. I ask that the Holy Spirit would convict this man and if not that someone would come in there and take the situation out and help her Father God. You promised that our children will call us blessed and this is what I call on that family in the name of Jesus. I love you all so much. Have a blessed day. Bye.

Hey everybody this is Pelham from Birmingham still. Well, hurricane Michael has been born and I am making the declaration that that is not a coincidence. And I’m gonna go mission Impossible for second. I watched the new one the other night and the opening scene had a guy that says, and faith withdrew to the warrior a storm is coming. And the other character says, and the warrior whispered to say I am the storm. We’re all prayer warriors, all of us, and I’m calling today because of two calls that played this morning on the 9th. It was Pam, it was Prosperous Pam’s call that got me where I had to call in but Teresa from Ontario was the one that hit my heart. And you were talking about Jay and the children, the estranged from. And I’m in that situation. I need prayer. And your call and you were saying that you were hesitant to call, I believe that was you. I’d have to double check that wasn’t before you. But any time that you’re hesitating to call out there, anybody that’s listening, that is a signal to you that the enemy does not want you to call. He knows how much strength you have and how much power this community has. So, he’s gonna move against you anytime you think about picking up the phone. So, I’m sure that the DAB loves this, but you guys, don’t hesitate to call. And don’t hesitate also…I’m…I’m speaking from the DABs perspective…I haven’t been able to tithe towards the DAB or any community here recently, but I know my finances are being blessed and I it’s time for some DAB donations. I’m just sayin’. We need to hire three more operators to go through the editing of all the calls because our prayer powers in unity are unstoppable. Love you guys. Let’s pray for the hurricane to stay away.

Hi this is Terry and I’m calling for prayer for my son Josh. We live in Southern California and I’m just…he’s a young man, 14, and, you know, and just entering high school. And I just need prayer for his guidance, prayer for me too and our family on how to guide him. But I’m just asking for God just work a miracle in his life so that he would just know the right decisions to make and just…I guess…be obedient to his parents without getting mad and not wanting to run away from the problems and everything. And, so, if…if the family…if you guys could pray, I’d really appreciate it. And I just started listening two days ago. So, I’ve been really blessed so far. And for the prayer requests that have gone forward, I’ll be praying for those too…everyone that I heard today…the last two days, I’ll be praying for those requests and just continue to do the good work that God’s called us to do. And I pray to God will continue to bless you Brian and your ministry. Thank you. Bye.
