The Daily Audio Bible Reading for Sunday July 11, 2021 (NIV)

1 Chronicles 11:1-12:18

David’s Anointing as King

11 All Israel(A) came together to David at Hebron and said, “Here we are, your own flesh and blood.[a] Even previously when Saul was king, you were leading Israel out to battle and bringing us back. The Lord your God also said to you, ‘You will shepherd my people Israel, and you will be ruler over my people Israel.’”

So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron. David made a covenant with them at Hebron in the Lord’s presence, and they anointed David king over Israel, in keeping with the Lord’s word through Samuel.(B)

David’s Capture of Jerusalem

David(C) and all Israel marched to Jerusalem (that is, Jebus); the Jebusites who inhabited the land were there.(D) The inhabitants of Jebus said to David, “You will never get in here.” Yet David did capture the stronghold of Zion, that is, the city of David.

David said, “Whoever is the first to kill a Jebusite will become chief commander.” Joab(E) son of Zeruiah went up first, so he became the chief.

Then David took up residence in the stronghold; therefore, it was called the city of David. He built up the city all the way around, from the supporting terraces to the surrounding parts, and Joab restored the rest of the city. David steadily grew more powerful,(F) and the Lord of Armies was with him.

Exploits of David’s Warriors

10 The following were the chiefs of David’s warriors who, together with all Israel, strongly supported him in his reign to make him king according to the Lord’s word about Israel.(G) 11 This(H) is the list of David’s warriors:

Jashobeam son of Hachmoni was chief(I) of the Thirty;[b] he wielded his spear against three hundred and killed them at one time.

12 After him, Eleazar son of Dodo(J) the Ahohite was one of the three warriors. 13 He was with David at Pas-dammim when the Philistines had gathered there for battle. There was a portion of a field full of barley, where the troops had fled from the Philistines.(K) 14 But Eleazar and David[c] took their stand in the middle of the field and defended it. They killed the Philistines, and the Lord gave them a great victory.

15 Three of the thirty chief men went down to David, to the rock at the cave of Adullam,(L) while the Philistine army was encamped in Rephaim Valley.(M) 16 At that time David was in the stronghold,(N) and a Philistine garrison(O) was at Bethlehem. 17 David was extremely thirsty[d] and said, “If only someone would bring me water to drink from the well at the city gate of Bethlehem!” 18 So the Three broke through the Philistine camp and drew water from the well at the gate of Bethlehem. They brought it back to David, but he refused to drink it. Instead, he poured it out to the Lord. 19 David said, “I would never do such a thing in the presence of my God! How can I drink the blood of these men who risked their lives?” For they brought it at the risk of their lives. So he would not drink it. Such were the exploits of the three warriors.

20 Abishai,(P) Joab’s brother, was the leader of the Three.[e] He raised his spear against three hundred men and killed them, gaining a reputation among the Three. 21 He was more honored than the Three and became their commander even though he did not become one of the Three.

22 Benaiah son of Jehoiada(Q) was the son of a brave man[f] from Kabzeel, a man of many exploits. Benaiah killed two sons of Ariel of Moab,[g] and he went down into a pit on a snowy day and killed a lion. 23 He also killed an Egyptian who was seven and a half feet tall.[h] Even though the Egyptian had a spear in his hand like a weaver’s beam,(R) Benaiah went down to him with a staff, snatched the spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and then killed him with his own spear. 24 These were the exploits of Benaiah son of Jehoiada, who had a reputation among the three warriors. 25 He was the most honored of the Thirty, but he did not become one of the Three. David put him in charge of his bodyguard.

26 The best soldiers(S) were

Joab’s brother Asahel,(T)

Elhanan son of Dodo of Bethlehem,

27 Shammoth the Harorite,

Helez the Pelonite,

28 Ira son of Ikkesh the Tekoite,

Abiel the Arbathite,

33 Azmaveth the Baharumite,

34 the sons of[i](U) Hashem the Gizonite,

Jonathan son of Shagee the Hararite,

35 Ahiam son of Sachar the Hararite,

Eliphal son of Ur,

36 Hepher the Mecherathite,

Ahijah the Pelonite,

37 Hezro the Carmelite,

Naarai son of Ezbai,

38 Joel the brother of Nathan,

Mibhar son of Hagri,

39 Zelek the Ammonite,

40 Ira the Ithrite,

Gareb the Ithrite,

41 Uriah the Hethite,

42 Adina son of Shiza the Reubenite, chief of the Reubenites, and thirty with him,

43 Hanan son of Maacah,

44 Uzzia the Ashterathite,

Shama and Jeiel the sons of Hotham the Aroerite,

45 Jediael son of Shimri and his brother Joha the Tizite,

46 Eliel the Mahavite,

Jeribai and Joshaviah, the sons of Elnaam,

Ithmah the Moabite,

47 Eliel, Obed, and Jaasiel the Mezobaite.

David’s First Supporters

12 The following were the men who came to David at Ziklag while he was still banned from the presence of Saul son of Kish.(V) They were among the warriors who helped him in battle. They were archers who could use either the right or left hand, both to sling stones and shoot arrows from a bow.(W) They were Saul’s relatives(X) from Benjamin:

Their chief was Ahiezer son of Shemaah the Gibeathite.

Then there was his brother Joash;

Jeziel and Pelet sons of Azmaveth;

Beracah, Jehu the Anathothite;

Ishmaiah the Gibeonite, a warrior among the Thirty and a leader over the Thirty;

Jeremiah, Jahaziel, Johanan, Jozabad the Gederathite;

Eluzai, Jerimoth, Bealiah, Shemariah, Shephatiah the Haruphite;

Elkanah, Isshiah, Azarel, Joezer, and Jashobeam, the Korahites;

and Joelah and Zebadiah, the sons of Jeroham from Gedor.

Some Gadites defected to David at his stronghold in the desert. They were valiant warriors, trained for battle, expert with shield and spear. Their faces were like the faces of lions, and they were as swift as gazelles on the mountains.(Y)

Ezer was the chief, Obadiah second, Eliab third,

10 Mishmannah fourth, Jeremiah fifth,

11 Attai sixth, Eliel seventh,

12 Johanan eighth, Elzabad ninth,

13 Jeremiah tenth, and Machbannai eleventh.

14 These Gadites were army commanders; the least of them was a match for a hundred, and the greatest of them for a thousand.(Z) 15 These are the men who crossed the Jordan in the first month[j] when it was overflowing all its banks,(AA) and put to flight all those in the valleys to the east and to the west.

16 Other Benjaminites and men from Judah also went to David at the stronghold.(AB) 17 David went out to meet them and said to them, “If you have come in peace to help me, my heart will be united with you, but if you have come to betray me to my enemies even though my hands have done no wrong, may the God of our ancestors look on it and judge.”

18 Then the Spirit enveloped[k](AC) Amasai,(AD) chief of the Thirty, and he said:

We are yours, David,
we are with you, son of Jesse!
Peace, peace to you,
and peace to him who helps you,(AE)
for your God helps you.

So David received them and made them leaders of his troops.

Acts 28

Malta’s Hospitality

28 Once safely ashore, we(A) then learned that the island was called Malta.(B) The local people(C) showed us extraordinary kindness. They lit a fire and took us all in, since it was raining and cold. As Paul gathered a bundle of brushwood and put it on the fire, a viper came out because of the heat and fastened itself on his hand. When the local people saw the snake hanging from his hand, they said to one another, “This man, no doubt, is a murderer. Even though he has escaped the sea, Justice has not allowed him to live.”(D) But he shook the snake off into the fire and suffered no harm.(E) They expected that he would begin to swell up or suddenly drop dead. After they waited a long time and saw nothing unusual happen to him, they changed their minds and said he was a god.(F)

Ministry in Malta

Now in the area around that place was an estate belonging to the leading man of the island, named Publius, who welcomed us and entertained us hospitably for three days. Publius’s father was in bed suffering from fever and dysentery. Paul went to him, and praying and laying his hands on him, he healed him.(G) After this, the rest of those on the island who had diseases also came and were healed. 10 So they heaped many honors on us, and when we sailed, they gave us what we needed.

Rome at Last

11 After three months we set sail in an Alexandrian ship that had wintered at the island, with the Twin Gods[a] as its figurehead. 12 Putting in at Syracuse, we stayed three days. 13 From there, after making a circuit along the coast,[b] we reached Rhegium. After one day a south wind sprang up, and the second day we came to Puteoli. 14 There we found brothers and sisters(H) and were invited to stay a week with them. And so we came to Rome. 15 Now the brothers and sisters from there had heard the news about us and had come to meet us as far as the Forum of Appius and the Three Taverns. When Paul saw them, he thanked God and took courage. 16 When we entered Rome,[c] Paul was allowed to live by himself with the soldier who guarded him.(I)

Paul’s First Interview with Roman Jews

17 After three days he called together the leaders of the Jews. When they had gathered he said to them, “Brothers, although I have done nothing against our people or the customs of our ancestors, I was delivered as a prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans.(J) 18 After they examined me, they wanted to release me, since there was no reason for the death penalty in my case.(K) 19 Because the Jews objected, I was compelled to appeal to Caesar;(L) even though I had no charge to bring against my people. 20 For this reason I’ve asked to see you and speak to you. In fact, it is for the hope of Israel that I’m wearing this chain.”(M)

21 Then they said to him, “We haven’t received any letters about you from Judea. None of the brothers has come and reported or spoken anything evil about you. 22 But we want to hear what your views are, since we know that people everywhere are speaking against this sect.”(N)

The Response to Paul’s Message

23 After arranging a day with him, many came to him at his lodging. From dawn to dusk he expounded and testified about the kingdom of God. He tried to persuade them about Jesus from both the Law of Moses and the Prophets.(O) 24 Some were persuaded by what he said, but others did not believe.(P)

25 Disagreeing among themselves, they began to leave after Paul made one statement:[d] “The Holy Spirit was right in saying to your[e] ancestors through the prophet Isaiah 26 when he said,

Go to these people and say:
You will always be listening,
but never understanding;
and you will always be looking,
but never perceiving.
27 For the hearts of these people
have grown callous,
their ears are hard of hearing,
and they have shut their eyes;
otherwise they might see with their eyes
and hear with their ears,
understand with their heart
and turn,
and I would heal them.[f](Q)

28 Therefore, let it be known to you that this salvation of God has been sent to the Gentiles; they will listen.”[g]

Paul’s Ministry Unhindered

30 Paul stayed two whole years in his own rented house. And he welcomed all who visited him, 31 proclaiming the kingdom of God(R) and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness(S) and without hindrance.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word. Here we are we’ve successfully reached the conclusion of another full week together. It’s a day-by-day occurrence in the weeks go by and Your faithfulness is ever apparent. We look back to yesterday and You were there. We look back to last week and You were there. We look back to last month and You’ve been there all the way we look through our lives and see how the guidance of the Scriptures that You have always been at work and will always continue to Father us and to love us and we love You, we adore You, we worship You. There is none like You and even saying that is ridiculous. There is none even close. The only thing that is close is that Your Spirit is within us and You are empowering us to bring good news and light into this world and so often we squelch that. Prayers and Encouragements:

This is Trusting God in Texas and I just wanted to thank His Little Sharie for praying for those of us including yourself, who have trouble walking. I have been praying for you since I heard you first speak a couple years ago. I heard you recently talk about having to walk into church with a walker. I know what it’s like to have people look at you because you don’t walk well and that you need help walk. I’ve had trouble walking my whole life and even though my Long Walk will consist of the Long Walk for me in the parking lot to the door of my clinic I still pray when I do my Long Walk. I have my husband help me walk and I have a cane. But I wanted to read one of my favorite verses, passages in the Bible and it comes from Isaiah chapter 40 and it says He gives power to the weak, this is 40 verses 29 through 31 He gives power to the weak and to those who have no might he increases strength even you shall faint and be weary and young men shall utterly fall but those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. God bless all of you who are doing the Long Walk today and we will be praying with you and for you. In Jesus name.

Good morning Daily Audio Bible community this is Diane Olive Brown calling from Newberg, Indiana. And it is July 7th but I’m reading July 6th 2021 and it is 7:04 a.m. central time. And we’re gonna take our Long Walk but I just wanted to say thank you Brian, thank you so much. I started with you and now I’m with Daily Audio Bible Chronological and Daily Audio Bible Kids and I love you so much because you understand me, always spoke healing into my heart, always spoke love. And I began with you and now my husband and my granddaughter are joining me and I just want to say thank you for loving me just the way I am. And I remember the times that were most crucial to me. You would speak something just for me. I don’t think you knew it but I want to say thank you and today, I’m going on my Long Walk however it turns out, I’ll report, I’ll send a picture or a short video because this is my Community and I’m all caught up. It took me a long time but I’m all caught up. And I love you guys, I love you.

Good morning DABers. I just want to pray this morning for every request and praise report that we’ve received thus far. Thank You Jesus for hearing the heart of Your people. Lord, we are crying out to You because You are the heart fixer and the mind regulator. And we just want to bless Your name. There are families that are broken Father God, but You bless the broken and save us to be in Your kingdom. We hear the cries of men, literally crying for their position for their heart and their pain. Father God, You are the Balm in Gilead to make the sin sick whole. I would pray for those who are in their bed of affliction who cannot move who are having such a traumatic time with cancer, COVID 19, with all the ailments the devil seems to through at us but Father God You still continue to bless us in our weakness because Your strength is made perfect in our weakness. Lord, it’s just refreshing to hear Your people around the world around the globe, cry out to you in this time that we’re living in. But help us to seek Your face earnestly. Forgive us oh Lord and cleanse our heart, make it pure. Lord, thank You for who You are and who You’ve been to every single one of these DABers throughout their life. Just help us to get a closer walk with You. So that when …

I just want to pray for one woman that’s saying that like her family is just going through a lot of like, problems, especially like, to point where there is guns involved. I just want to please pray. Father God I just know that all things are possible through You God. Let the Holy Spirit indwell in all of them. God just let, that you could just take away this escalation. Let there to be restoration in this home God. Completely heal them, guide and protect her as she tries to make peace. God let them to realize that as Christians we can’t be like that, that we can’t start drama, we can’t start stuff and that escalates to that situation God. And help them to realize, let them to have a fatherly loving rebuke from God and let them to be able to understand that they need to stop and fill them up with Your Holy Spirit and fill them up with Your presence and let them to repent of what they’re doing. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. And I just wanted to pray for, I heard somebody that was just struggling with I think mental illness or something like that and just depression and stuff like that. Father God, I just please pray for that person that was struggling with mental illness and depression God and just completely heal them, protect them and guide them and let them to be guided by the Holy Spirit fill them up with your presence, overwhelm them so much that they just have peace, peace that surpasses all understanding. 1 Chronicles 9-10

A Genealogy of the Returned Exiles

So all Israel was recorded in genealogies, and these are written in the Book of the Kings of Israel. And (A)Judah was taken into exile in Babylon because of their breach of faith. (B)Now the first to (C)dwell again in their possessions in their cities were Israel, the priests, the Levites, and the (D)temple servants. And some of the people of Judah, Benjamin, Ephraim, and Manasseh lived in Jerusalem: Uthai the son of Ammihud, son of Omri, son of Imri, son of Bani, from the sons of (E)Perez the son of Judah. And of the Shilonites: Asaiah the firstborn, and his sons. Of the sons of Zerah: Jeuel and their kinsmen, 690. Of the Benjaminites: Sallu the son of Meshullam, son of Hodaviah, son of Hassenuah, Ibneiah the son of Jeroham, Elah the son of Uzzi, son of Michri, and Meshullam the son of Shephatiah, son of Reuel, son of Ibnijah; and their kinsmen according to their generations, (F)956. All these were heads of fathers' houses according (G)to their fathers' houses.

10 (H)Of the priests: Jedaiah, Jehoiarib, Jachin, 11 and Azariah the son of Hilkiah, son of Meshullam, son of Zadok, son of Meraioth, son of Ahitub, the (I)chief officer of the house of God; 12 and Adaiah the son of Jeroham, son of Pashhur, son of Malchijah, and Maasai the son of Adiel, son of Jahzerah, son of Meshullam, son of Meshillemith, son of Immer; 13 besides their kinsmen, heads of their fathers' houses, 1,760, mighty men for the work of the service of the house of God.

14 (J)Of the Levites: Shemaiah the son of Hasshub, son of Azrikam, son of Hashabiah, of the sons of Merari; 15 and Bakbakkar, Heresh, Galal and Mattaniah the son of Mica, son of Zichri, son of Asaph; 16 and Obadiah the son of Shemaiah, son of Galal, son of Jeduthun, and Berechiah the son of Asa, son of Elkanah, who lived in the villages of the Netophathites.

17 The gatekeepers were Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman, and their kinsmen (Shallum was the chief); 18 until then they were (K)in the king's gate on the east side as the gatekeepers of the camps of the Levites. 19 Shallum the son of Kore, son of (L)Ebiasaph, son of Korah, and his kinsmen of his fathers' house, the (M)Korahites, were in charge of the work of the service, keepers of the thresholds of the tent, as their fathers had been in charge of the camp of the Lord, keepers of the entrance. 20 And (N)Phinehas the son of Eleazar was the chief officer over them in time past; the Lord was with him. 21 (O)Zechariah the son of Meshelemiah was gatekeeper at the entrance of the tent of meeting. 22 All these, who were chosen as gatekeepers at the thresholds, were 212. They were enrolled by genealogies in their villages. (P)David and Samuel (Q)the seer established them in their office of trust. 23 So they and their sons were in charge of the gates of the house of the Lord, that is, the house of the tent, as guards. 24 The gatekeepers were on the four sides, east, west, north, and south. 25 And their kinsmen who were (R)in their villages were obligated to come (S)in every seven days, in turn, to be with these, 26 for the four chief gatekeepers, who were Levites, were entrusted to be over (T)the chambers and the treasures of the house of God. 27 And they lodged around the house of God, for on them lay the duty of watching, and (U)they had charge of opening it every morning.

28 Some of them had charge of the utensils of service, for they were required to count them when they were brought in and taken out. 29 Others of them were appointed over the furniture and over all the holy utensils, also over the (V)fine flour, the wine, the oil, the incense, and the spices. 30 Others, of the sons of the priests, (W)prepared the mixing of the spices, 31 and Mattithiah, one of the Levites, the firstborn of (X)Shallum the (Y)Korahite, was entrusted with (Z)making the flat cakes. 32 Also some of their kinsmen of the Kohathites had (AA)charge of the showbread, to prepare it every Sabbath.

33 Now these, the (AB)singers, the heads of fathers' houses of the Levites, were in the chambers of the temple free from other service, for they were on duty day and night. 34 These were heads of fathers' houses of the Levites, according to their generations, leaders. These lived in Jerusalem.

Saul's Genealogy Repeated

35 (AC)In Gibeon lived the father of Gibeon, Jeiel, and the name of his wife was Maacah, 36 and his firstborn son Abdon, then Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner, Nadab, 37 Gedor, Ahio, Zechariah, and Mikloth; 38 and Mikloth was the father of Shimeam; and these also lived opposite their kinsmen in Jerusalem, with their kinsmen. 39 (AD)Ner fathered Kish, Kish fathered Saul, Saul fathered Jonathan, Malchi-shua, Abinadab, and Eshbaal. 40 And the son of Jonathan was (AE)Merib-baal, and Merib-baal fathered Micah. 41 The sons of Micah: Pithon, Melech, Tahrea, and (AF)Ahaz.[a] 42 And Ahaz fathered (AG)Jarah, and Jarah fathered Alemeth, Azmaveth, and Zimri. And Zimri fathered Moza. 43 Moza fathered Binea, and (AH)Rephaiah was his son, Eleasah his son, Azel his son. 44 Azel had six sons and these are their names: Azrikam, Bocheru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah, and Hanan; these were the sons of Azel.

The Death of Saul and His Sons

10 (AI)Now the Philistines fought against Israel, and the men of Israel fled before the Philistines and fell slain on Mount Gilboa. And the Philistines overtook Saul and his sons, and the Philistines struck down Jonathan and Abinadab and Malchi-shua, the sons of Saul. The battle pressed hard against Saul, and the archers found him, and he was wounded by the archers. Then Saul said to his armor-bearer, “Draw your sword and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and mistreat me.” But his armor-bearer would not, for he feared greatly. Therefore Saul took his own sword and fell upon it. And when his armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell upon his sword and died. Thus Saul died; he and his three sons and all his house died together. And when all the men of Israel who were in the valley saw that the army[b] had fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned their cities and fled, and the Philistines came and lived in them.

The next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa. And they stripped him and took his head and his armor, and sent messengers throughout the land of the Philistines to carry the good news to their idols and to the people. 10 And they put his armor in the temple of their gods and fastened his head in the temple of Dagon. 11 But when all Jabesh-gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul, 12 all the valiant men arose and took away the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh. And they buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh and fasted seven days.

13 So Saul died (AJ)for his breach of faith. He broke faith with the Lord in that he did not keep the command of the Lord, and also (AK)consulted a medium, seeking guidance. 14 He (AL)did not seek guidance from the Lord. Therefore the Lord put him to death and (AM)turned the kingdom over to David the son of Jesse.

Acts 27:21-44

21 Since they had been without food for a long time, Paul stood up among them and said, “Men, (A)you should have listened to me and not have set sail from Crete and incurred this (B)injury and loss. 22 Yet now I urge you to (C)take heart, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship. 23 For this very night (D)there (E)stood before me (F)an angel of the God (G)to whom I belong and (H)whom I worship, 24 and he said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul; (I)you must stand before Caesar. And behold, (J)God has granted you all those who sail with you.’ 25 So take heart, men, for I have faith in God that it will be exactly as I have been told. 26 But (K)we must (L)run aground on some island.”

27 When the fourteenth night had come, as we were being driven across the Adriatic Sea, about midnight the sailors suspected that they were nearing land. 28 So they took a sounding and found twenty fathoms.[a] A little farther on they took a sounding again and found fifteen fathoms.[b] 29 And fearing that we might (M)run on the rocks, they let down four anchors from the stern and prayed for day to come. 30 And as the sailors were seeking to escape from the ship, and had lowered (N)the ship's boat into the sea under pretense of laying out anchors from the bow, 31 Paul said to the centurion and the soldiers, “Unless these men stay in the ship, you cannot be saved.” 32 Then the soldiers cut away the ropes of the ship's boat and let it go.

33 As day was about to dawn, Paul urged them all to take some food, saying, “Today is the fourteenth day that you have continued in suspense and without food, having taken nothing. 34 Therefore I urge you to take some food. For it will give you strength,[c] for (O)not a hair is to perish from the head of any of you.” 35 And when he had said these things, he took bread, and (P)giving thanks to God in the presence of all he broke it and began to eat. 36 Then they all (Q)were encouraged and ate some food themselves. 37 (We were in all 276[d] (R)persons in the ship.) 38 And when they had eaten enough, they lightened the ship, (S)throwing out the wheat into the sea.

The Shipwreck

39 Now when it was day, (T)they did not recognize the land, but they noticed a bay with a beach, on which they planned if possible to run the ship ashore. 40 So they cast off the anchors and left them in the sea, at the same time loosening the ropes that tied the rudders. Then hoisting the foresail to the wind they made for the beach. 41 But striking a reef,[e] (U)they ran the vessel aground. The bow stuck and remained immovable, and the stern was being broken up by the surf. 42 (V)The soldiers' plan was to kill the prisoners, lest any should swim away and escape. 43 But the centurion, (W)wishing to save Paul, kept them from carrying out their plan. He ordered those who could swim to jump overboard first and make for the land, 44 and the rest on planks or on pieces of the ship. And so it was that (X)all were brought safely to land.

Psalm 8

How Majestic Is Your Name

To the choirmaster: according to The (A)Gittith.[a] A Psalm of David.

O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your (B)name in all the earth!
You have set your (C)glory above the heavens.
(D)Out of the mouth of babies and infants,
you have established (E)strength because of your foes,
to still (F)the enemy and the avenger.

When I (G)look at your heavens, the work of your (H)fingers,
the moon and the stars, (I)which you have set in place,
(J)what is man that you are (K)mindful of him,
and (L)the son of man that you (M)care for him?

Yet you have made him a little lower than (N)the heavenly beings[b]
and crowned him with (O)glory and honor.
You have given him (P)dominion over the works of your hands;
(Q)you have put all things under his feet,
all sheep and oxen,
and also the beasts of the field,
the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea,
whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

1 Chronicles 7:1-8:40, Acts 27:1-20, Psalm 7:1-17, Proverbs 18:22

Today is the 9th day of July, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible, I’m Brian, it’s great to be here with you, like every day of our lives it’s great to be here around the Global Campfire taking the next step forward together on our voyage through the Scriptures this year and obviously we’re well on our way. We’ve just begun, but we are definitely in the second half and so let’s dive in we’re working our way through the book of 1 Chronicles in the Old Testament, we’re reading from the English Standard Version this week, 1 Chronicles chapter 7 and 8.

Commentary:

Alright so, in the Book of Acts, Paul had appealed to Caesar, which was his right to appeal to the emperor his case. We read all this, it was largely because the Jewish people wanted Paul to be tried in Jerusalem because they were gonna kill him and he knew of all this, and he was safely in Roman jurisdiction where he should be tried and so he appealed to Caesar and so now we’re sailing again. The, well, Paul is to be delivered to Rome to await his turn to stand before the emperor so we will watch that story unfold.

There’s something in our reading from Psalm 7 today that is really, really interesting and really provocative and should make us stop and think for a second. The wicked man conceives evil and is pregnant with mischief and gives birth to lies he makes a pit digging it out and falls into the hole that he is made his mischief returns upon his own head and on his own skull his violence descends. Go read this and say yeah, generally this is the law of sowing and reaping right, like you get back what you give you reap what you sow, but the language here is what’s so provocative: the wicked man conceives evil and is pregnant with mischief and gives birth to lies. The idea of conception and pregnancy and birth are very familiar probably to many, many, many, many of us definitely has been something very near to us with the birth of Reagan, our little angel who is such a blessing and gift and to look forward to another granddaughter this year. So, like the concepts here conception, pregnancy, birth, we understand that that’s how new life comes into the world. But the Bible is saying this is how deception comes into the world as well. The wicked man conceives, so conception is a super intimate thing right. The wicked man conceives evil and is pregnant with mischief and incubating right, nurturing and incubating and feeding and giving life to mischief and ultimately gives birth to lies right, to deception in this world, that brings it really, really near right. It’s not like a little lie or I this, or I was, I deceived them in this way like what we understand is now, this is really deep inside of us really intimate. Intimate is conception and pregnancy and birth. And truly these should not be things we want to give birth to in our lives because as the Psalm says I only do that we’re going to fall into our own trap the Scripture says his mischief returns up on his own head. Okay, that’s the mischief that the person was pregnant with right. The wicked man conceives evil and is pregnant with mischief, his mischief returns upon his own head after he gives birth to lies. This is like not where we probably need to be heading in our lives, it’s only bad things and so let’s give that some thought today and actually give it some thought in the framework that the Bible is giving us because it’s giving us this really, really intimate picture. And so, what were invited to do is to think about how we might be incubating.

Prayer:

So Jesus, we invite you into that because we are such an interesting, we can have all kinds of things going on in different compartments in our lives and yet you are inviting us to be whole like not compartmentalized and not conceiving evil and being pregnant with mischief and giving birth to lies and deception in this world. If we’re going to be intimate and allow something within us, to be incubated within us than we want it to be the fruit of your spirit. And so come, Holy Spirit show us the blazes where were incubating things that are only going to harm us. Help us to root those things out and walk away from them we pray in the mighty name of Jesus we ask. Amen.

Announcements:

dailyaudiobible.com is home base, it is the website, it is where you’ll find out what’s going on around here. Of course, you can find out what’s going on around here if you’re using the Daily Audio Bible app as well. There is a little drawer icon in the upper left-hand corner of the app that opens up to things like the Community section, which can be found in the app or on the web and in the Community section are links to get connected on social media but also that’s where the Prayer Wall is and lives and so it’s a place to always be aware of but always a place that’s available to go to ask for prayer or offer prayer into one another and so be familiar with that. That’s one of the ways we stick together is that we pray for one another and this community being global like it is that’s really like we have the fundamentals of what we need. We don’t have to get involved in everything and try to fix everything, offer our presence, knowing that we’re not alone and knowing that brothers and sisters are speaking on our behalf before the Lord, no matter where we are on this planet, that is beautiful. That is well, that is the body of Christ and the body of Christ in its beauty. So be familiar with the Prayer Wall in the Community section on the web or in the app.

If you want to partner with the Daily Audio Bible, thank you, thank you humbly and profoundly. If we weren’t in the community, if we weren’t going through this together, this wouldn’t be happening and it wouldn’t have happened all of these years. And so, if what’s happening here, bringing the spoken word of God read fresh every day and offered freely to anyone who will listen to it, anywhere on this planet, any time of day or night and build community around the fact that we are in this rhythm together and we’re showing up every day and we get to know each other’s voices and each other’s stories, if that matters, if that makes a difference than thank you for your partnership, as we navigate the summertime. There is a link on the homepage at dailyaudiobible.com. If you’re using the Daily Audio Bible app you can press the Give button in the upper right hand corner or the mailing address, if you prefer, is P.O. Box 1996 Springhill, Tennessee 37174.

And as always if you have a prayer request or encouragement you can hit the Hotline button in the app no matter where you are in the world. Or there are a few numbers that you can call depending on where you are in the world: in the Americas 877-942-4253 is the number to call, if you’re in the UK or Europe 44 2036 088078 is the number dial and if you are in Australia or that part of the world 61 3 8820 5459 is the number to call.

And that’s it for today, I’m Brian, I love you and I’ll be waiting for you here tomorrow.

Prayers and Encouragement:

What’s up everybody, gotta keep this short and sweet. Please pray for my brother man Mike Lee, brother man Mike Lee is struggling immensely right now and he could really use our prayer. Alright, have a wonderful day.

Hey everyone it’s Margo here, missionary in Liberia. I haven’t called in for a while, I’ve been attempting to not be high maintenance but I can’t, I can’t maintain that facade anymore, I need little maintenance. It’s been a very hard year for my husband and I in Liberia. I feel like I might be just drowning a little bit. I just, the challenges are so huge. And there’s been so much difficult stuff that’s happened. The hospitals basically run out of money and at the office we had to fire a couple of our national staff members because they were corrupt and that was just really heart breaking. I don’t know there’s just so much stuff. And I’ve been crying out to God, what is my purpose? You know, what would you have me do right now? And it feels like the things I do, it’s just a drop in the ocean. I do think that I’ve probably got major compassion fatigue. And I’m just feeling a bit over it all. But I don’t want this to end badly. And so, I’m asking for prayer. That’s what I need, I need prayer. So, thank you, thank you for your prayers. I love you all, bye.

But yes brother, I understand that it is exhausting and it is exhausting, you know, when you feel like when you’re in this and you don’t know what to do. Hey DAB friends this is Alan in Australia a missionary in New South Wales. I just want you to know that we did our Long Walk a day early and the weather cooperated. Thank you so much Brian, for putting together that Heart. It was so worth the purchase. My wife and I really, really was touched through that journey. We journaled and listened and prayed and so as soon as you get that link up, we will post our pictures as well. But thank you so much for that opportunity and this idea, it’s so beautiful, we loved it and we always walk away saying “we should do this more often.” So, we’re gonna try to use your app and this journey of prayer and meditation like once a month or every other month, try to get away for a day and do this regularly. God bless you guys, we’re praying for you and remember God’s word is always true, always.

Hi Daily Audio Bible family, To Be a Blessing in California just wanted to let you know that I’m praying for you this community when I hear the folks calling in and leaving their requests, just wanted to let you know that I gotcha, better yet God’s gotcha. Hey, could you do me a favor and pray for my brother, he is expecting surgery on the 14th for spinal fusion. He’s in excruciating pain now and just want to ask for prayers that the insurance will come through, pay for what needs to be paid for, for his medical team the surgeons and the medical professionals for his recovery. But most importantly that he will know how much God loves him and will touch his heart and he’ll open his heart to the love of God. And just that as I interact with him after the surgery that God will give me the right words to say. Also, I would like to ask for prayers for my own work transition. I’ve asked my boss to do something different and she seemed to be open to it. But she does not have the final say so asking that God will put His hands on my work and will give me the patience and grace to wait for Him to lead in the direction He wants me to go. Lastly, if you could pray for the marriages. I’m thinking of the marriages here on the line that people speak of and need help with. My church community, a lot of parents, a lot of couples are struggling and I just ask that you would pray for them. God loves you. Always remember that you’re His favorite, his very favorite. God Bless you, To Be a Blessing in California. Talk to you later, Bye bye.

Acts 27:1-20

Paul Sails for Rome

27 And when it was decided (A)that (B)we should sail for Italy, they delivered Paul and some other prisoners to a centurion of the Augustan (C)Cohort named Julius. And embarking in a ship of Adramyttium, which was about to sail to the ports along the coast of Asia, we put to sea, accompanied by (D)Aristarchus, a Macedonian from Thessalonica. The next day we put in at Sidon. And (E)Julius (F)treated Paul kindly and (G)gave him leave to go to his friends and be cared for. And putting out to sea from there we sailed under the lee of Cyprus, because the winds were against us. And when we had sailed across the open sea along the coast of Cilicia and Pamphylia, we came to Myra in Lycia. There the centurion found (H)a ship of Alexandria sailing for Italy and put us on board. We sailed slowly for a number of days and arrived with difficulty off Cnidus, and as the wind did not allow us to go farther, we sailed under the lee of Crete off Salmone. Coasting along it with difficulty, we came to a place called Fair Havens, near which was the city of Lasea.

Since much time had passed, and the voyage was now dangerous because even (I)the Fast[a] was already over, Paul advised them, 10 saying, “Sirs, I perceive that the voyage will be with (J)injury and much loss, not only of the cargo and the ship, but also of our lives.” 11 But the centurion paid more attention to (K)the pilot and to the owner of the ship than to what Paul said. 12 And because the harbor was not suitable to spend the winter in, the majority decided to put out to sea from there, on the chance that somehow they could reach Phoenix, a harbor of Crete, facing both southwest and northwest, and spend the winter there.

The Storm at Sea

13 Now when the south wind blew gently, supposing that they had obtained their purpose, they weighed anchor and sailed along Crete, close to the shore. 14 But soon a tempestuous wind, called the northeaster, (L)struck down from the land. 15 And when the ship was caught and could not face the wind, we gave way to it and were driven along. 16 Running under the lee of a small island called Cauda,[b] we managed with difficulty to secure the ship's boat. 17 After hoisting it up, they used supports to undergird the ship. Then, fearing that they would (M)run aground on the Syrtis, they lowered the gear,[c] and thus they were driven along. 18 Since we were violently storm-tossed, they began the next day (N)to jettison the cargo. 19 And on the third day they threw the ship's tackle overboard with their own hands. 20 When neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope of our being saved was at last abandoned.

Psalm 7

In You Do I Take Refuge

A (A)Shiggaion[a] of David, which he sang to the Lord concerning the words of Cush, a Benjaminite.

O Lord my God, in you do I (B)take refuge;
(C)save me from all my pursuers and deliver me,
lest like (D)a lion they tear my soul apart,
rending it in pieces, with (E)none to deliver.

O Lord my God, (F)if I have done this,
if there is (G)wrong in my hands,
if I have repaid (H)my friend[b] with evil
or (I)plundered my enemy without cause,
let the enemy pursue my soul and overtake it,
and let him (J)trample my life to the ground
and lay my glory in the dust. Selah

(K)Arise, O Lord, in your anger;
(L)lift yourself up against the fury of my enemies;
(M)awake for me; you have appointed a judgment.
Let the assembly of the peoples be gathered about you;
over it return on high.

The Lord (N)judges the peoples;
(O)judge me, O Lord, according to my righteousness
and according to the integrity that is in me.
Oh, let the evil of the wicked come to an end,
and may you establish the righteous—
you who (P)test (Q)the minds and hearts,[c]
O righteous God!
10 My shield is (R)with God,
who saves (S)the upright in heart.
11 God is (T)a righteous judge,
and a God who feels (U)indignation every day.

12 If a man[d] does not repent, God[e] will (V)whet his sword;
he has (W)bent and (X)readied his bow;
13 he has prepared for him his deadly weapons,
making his (Y)arrows (Z)fiery shafts.
14 Behold, the wicked man (AA)conceives evil
and is (AB)pregnant with mischief
and gives birth to lies.
15 He makes (AC)a pit, digging it out,
and falls into the hole that he has made.
16 His (AD)mischief returns upon his own head,
and on his own skull his violence descends.

17 I will give to the Lord the thanks due to his righteousness,
and I will (AE)sing praise to the name of the Lord, the Most High.

1 Chronicles 5:18-6:81, Acts 26:1-32, Psalm 6:1-10, Proverbs 18:20-21

Today is the 8th day of July, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I’m Brian, it’s great to be here with you today. Hopefully you had a wonderful Long Walk yesterday. I did and it was so needed and I’m so glad I took the time and it’s been so enjoyable as it is every year to just look at the different posts from the different places in the world where we just did what we set out to do. Take a day, set it aside, walk with God, refocus, recalibrate and come with a renewed sense of purpose, even though the circumstances may not have changed it’s so interesting. The circumstances don’t necessarily need to change, sometimes it’s our perspective that needs to change and then we can see things from a different angle and see things that we weren’t seeing before and a path emerges when we walk with God. There is always a path. It’s a narrow one. It leads to life. And so, I’m glad we had the opportunity to do that yesterday and I look forward to continuing to see the different posts that come in. But we have come here right now around the Global Campfire to take the next step forward together. So, let’s do that were reading from the English Standard Version this week and working our way through 1 Chronicles today chapter 5 verse 18 through 6 verse 81.

Commentary:

Okay, so it’s pretty clear the Book of Acts that we are traveling alongside the Apostle Paul and we have been all over the known world at the time with the Apostle Paul, and he made his way back to Jerusalem. He was arrested and taken to Caesarea and then he’s been held there and we’ve been watching the Jewish elite, or at least the religious leadership conspire to assassinate, bring all kinds of accusations against Paul and because of this, this is the irony, because they’re bringing all of these false accusations against Paul and because Paul is a naturally born Roman citizen, they have to bring these accusations before Roman, well, within the Roman legal system. Therefore, the people who are hearing Paul defend himself are pretty important, high-ranking people. So, when Paul got to Caesarea Maritima where he was imprisoned, he first spent a lot of time with Felix, the Roman governor. This is somebody like with the same type of authority as Pontius Pilot who sentenced Jesus to death. So, Paul spoke to Felix and his wife Drusilla, the highest-ranking man in the land in terms of the Romans, and then when he left his post, his replacement came in, his name was Festus. So, Paul was able to share the good news about Jesus with another governor of the land Festus. And in today, dropped in on Paul’s defense. So, he’s talking to the Roman governor Festus, he’s talking to King Herod Agrippa the II, he’s talking to King Agrippa’s sister, her name is Bernice and the speculation at the time was that Herod Agrippa and his sister Bernice were, well they were involved in an incestuous relationship. King Herod Agrippa and his sister or whatever that was his sister Bernice they, they were siblings of Drusilla, the wife of the previous Roman governor. So, we’re talking about high-ranking people that Paul wouldn’t be able to meet with but under the circumstances, it’s the accusation of the Jewish people that is allowing Paul to be before these very important high-ranking very powerful people sharing the good news of the kingdom and he’s open enough about it to say I wish all of you, I wish all of you were like me except for the chains. In other words Paul’s saying I have found freedom beyond these chains in Christ and I wish you could find too, whether it takes a long time, or whether it takes a short time, I hope that you can find that too and become like me, free, except for these physical chains. So, we only have a handful of days left in the Book of Acts as we travel this journey and so that will be leaving New Testament history or church era history and moving into the letters of Paul and so let’s pay particular attention to what we’re observing here: how Paul conducted ministry, how Paul led his life, how he seemingly was hopelessly devoted and hopelessly dependent upon God even, even willingly walking into circumstances that were sure to well, take his freedom away and yet nothing could take his freedom away, as we are seeing now. His influence is only increased because of his imprisonment.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word. All of the different facets. All of the different angles. All of the different ways to look at the beauty of it, and to derive meaning as You lead and guide our steps and the choices that we make and the motivations of our hearts so we thank You profoundly for these examples of those who have gone before us and what their stories look like because we can expect the same types of stories in one form or another. We just have a different culture, we’re wearing different clothes, the way things get done are different, the technology is different. We have to acknowledge that what we read in the Scriptures reveals the human heart and those motives, we may go about things differently, but our hearts are the same, so we as Your children, we need You desperately. Come, Holy Spirit lead us into all truth we pray. In the name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.

1 Chronicles 4:5-5:17, Acts 25:1-27, Psalm 5:1-12, Proverbs 18:19

Today is the 7th day of July, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian. It’s great to be here with you as we cross through the center of the week together and continue the journey forward, step-by-step, day by day may find ourselves in the middle of the week with this is the 7th day of the month so this is a full week into the month. Of course, today is the 7th day of July, so this is our own little family holiday that we have around here around the Global Campfire. This is the day of the Long Walk and so I’m sure I’m talking to many of you who are walking and I am very much looking forward to the same. Looking forward to seeing all of the different pictures and videos and posts that come in throughout the day. I love this time it let’s us, just little windows into each other’s lives and so enjoy your day walking with God, re-setting for the second half of the year. One of the ways we do that is step-by-step, day by day and so let’s dive in. We are reading from the English Standard Version this week, 1 Chronicles chapter 4 verse 5 through 5 verse 17 today. And just reminding us, we are moving through right now what is the famous part of the Bible, the famous genealogy part of the Bible and we talked about it. We’ve talked about how this is so they would not forget. So, that these people would be remembered and as we read through this portion of the Bible than that is exactly what’s happening there being remembered, so, 1 Chronicles chapter 4.

Commentary:

Okay, so this year we have a word ‘mend’ and as we come to this point in the book of Proverbs today’s it just gives us a very good opportunity to look at that. The Proverbs have a way of speaking a sentence that says a book worth of knowledge or wisdom. And today is, kind of like. A brother offended is more unyielding than a strong city and quarreling is like the bars of a castle. So, this starts out a brother offended. So, what is that a person who’s been offended whose carrying an offense and what is that? Well, I mean, offenses can come in a lot of different shapes. Big, small, wide, narrow they just seem to find a way to fit wherever they can fit in our lives and causes all kinds of grief, but typically they form because somehow, our territory likely has been disrespected. Boundaries have been crossed. We’ve been disrespected in some way and so we resent that and it’s that resentment that is this offense and when that happens, according to Proverbs here, a person is more unyielding than a strong city. So, in this context we’ll be talking about a walled city and if we just take our knowledge of some of the stories that we’ve read in the Bible, we have seen walled cities get attacked and we’ve seen how they get surrounded and then starved out because they can’t just, they can’t just come and break the walls down. So that’s what we become when we’re carrying an offense toward somebody. We are unyielding like a walled city, a strong city, and when we’ve been the offender and we’re trying to like, get past the walls, we use this analogy all the time. The walls have come up I can’t get through to him. I can’t get through to her. I can’t get past her walls and when we say that we’re simply saying that this proverb is very accurate. We get an offense, we put up the walls, we’re protecting ourselves, we’re withdrawing emotionally, we’re becoming aloof, we’re stepping back, these are kind of natural reactions, but if we stay inside that wall, if we stay inside that fortified city than we’re going to start starving. The offense isn’t going to get dealt with and so it’s going to rot. It’s going to boil itself down into the blackness of bitterness. Both parties at some point give up and kinda become silent and then kinda become enemies because things get replayed over and over and over in our minds, we just solidify our position and our need to be right and it becomes a mess, actually, it becomes more like an unyielding city. So, maybe we finally, there is a conversation and maybe it’s not done with humility and maybe the second part of the proverb comes true. Quarreling is like the bars of a castle. So, I mean what can we say about what we’re saying. We could say basically that carrying the resentment of an offense and then quarreling, this is a way to get locked out of a relationship altogether and interestingly enough, we probably should all already know this, you probably have all already experienced this whether we’ve ever read this Proverb before or not this Proverb is true because we’ve probably all lived it at some point or another. So, how could we seek the deeper wisdom here, like what would fix this because truly like in the sound of my voice right now some of you are in a walled city of offense and some of you are on the outside of the wall because you are the offender and you’re trying to get past the walls. This is always coming on so pretty hard for me to think that nobody knows what we’re talking about right now. So, if a brother offended is more unyielding than a strong city then perhaps the reverse applies if the offense makes the walls go up maybe be grace and repentance make the walls come down. If quarreling is like the bars of a castle, then maybe kindness, kind words, humility grace, maybe those are like the garden of the castle. This is kind of how wisdom works. There it is, there it is laid out in black and white before us. Here it is for us to read and understand and she has spoken to us at the crossroads. It’s just a matter of which way we’re going to go because we get to choose whether to listen or not but if we want mending and mending is actively getting involved and repairing. Sometimes that’s just resting and healing, but often if you want to mend something you might have to tear out what’s broken down and replace it with something that’s not. Like, if you want to mend a fence then you’re probably remove the broken pieces of wood and replace them with new ones, its work. It doesn’t just happen. So, if we have people in our lives that are like behind the walls in a strong city, cut off from us and we don’t want it to be that way, then we may have to be the agent of the mending, we may have to step into it with hat in hand, no matter what and just come with grace, come with the peace and calm of the Holy Spirit. Come not needing to be right, incredible things can happen. Walls can come down; relationships can be mended.

Prayer:

And Holy Spirit, we acknowledge that reconciliation it, this is the underpinning of the gospel story that You came even while we were Your enemies, and rescued us and reconciled us and in like fashion we need to be willing to do the same. So, come Holy Spirit, and lead us in this regard. We ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.

dailyaudiobible.com is home base. It’s the websites it’s where you find out what’s going on around here and really it’s the Long Walk, that’s what’s going on around here right now as we, all over the place, in one way or another, try to find moments or the whole day with God in nature somewhere beautiful, just drink it in to have that uninterrupted space to have a conversation that doesn’t, doesn’t have to have an objective, it’s just about us pouring out our hearts and having time to say everything we needed saying, conversations are reciprocal so giving space to feel the Spirit leading and guiding, directing us, comforting us. To feel our hearts opening as we relax, as we get out in nature and all of a sudden we find that there’s a lot going on in this world that we’re not paying attention to: the beauty of the leaves, the beauty of the birds and their song, and the little creatures going about their day enjoying their lives. We begin to understand there’s healing in this, the serenity brings a calm and the Lord is in it and leads us and so, yeah, enjoy that time. Enjoy that conversation, enjoy just regrouping, looking forward into the second half of the year. Looking back at the first half of the year, and making some choices about the trajectory, where were going and allowing the Holy Spirit to lead and direct us in those choices. So, yeah, enjoy that. I have mentioned for last couple of weeks about the resource called Heart: A Contemplative Journey that is a prayer, guided prayer and musical resource that you can get wherever you get your music, just like the iTunes store, like YouTube music, just search for Heart: A Contemplative Journey or search for my name and you’ll find it and that is a resource that really is a perfect accompaniment for a day like today because it begins to guide us, we would pray and open our emotions and open our heart. That’s why it’s called Heart: A Contemplative Journey, as it were opening ourselves to what we’ve been feeling and, in some cases, what we been stuffing down inside, but it still there we’re just trying to do everything we can to cover it over. In this case, were actually in a safe place in nature. Walking with God opening ourselves to his healing. So check that resource out. And also mentioning that we have a post at the Daily Audio Bible Facebook page so Facebook.com/dailyaudiobible.com is a post for the Long Walk today. So, wherever you may be in the world, walking with God, if you happen to take a picture or little video or whatever you can post that in the Long Walk post, and then we have this place we can all come to, look at the beauty of God’s creation all over the world today. And just interact, know that we were out there alone that we were not out there alone, our brothers and sisters were all over the world doing the same thing. So, we have that post ready, looking forward to that myself looking forward to that a little later this afternoon. Probably this evening but very much looking forward to it. So, check that out.

If you want to partner with the Daily Audio Bible, thank you profoundly, profoundly we’re a community, we’ve been a community, we wouldn’t be here if we weren’t in this together. 1 Chronicles 5:18-6:81

18 The Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh had valiant men who carried shield and sword, and drew the bow, (A)expert in war, 44,760, able to go to war. 19 They waged war against the (B)Hagrites, (C)Jetur, Naphish, and Nodab. 20 And when they prevailed[a] over them, the Hagrites and all who were with them were given into their hands, (D)for they cried out to God in the battle, and he granted their urgent plea (E)because they trusted in him. 21 They carried off their livestock: 50,000 of their camels, 250,000 sheep, 2,000 donkeys, and 100,000 men alive. 22 For many fell, because the war was of God. And they lived (F)in their place until (G)the exile.

The Half-Tribe of Manasseh

23 The members of the half-tribe of Manasseh lived in the land. They were very numerous from Bashan to Baal-hermon, (H)Senir, and Mount Hermon. 24 These were the heads of their fathers' houses: Epher,[b] Ishi, Eliel, Azriel, Jeremiah, Hodaviah, and Jahdiel, mighty warriors, famous men, heads of their fathers' houses. 25 But they broke faith with the God of their fathers, and (I)whored (J)after the gods of the peoples of the land, whom God had destroyed before them. 26 So the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of (K)Pul king of Assyria, the spirit of (L)Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, and he took them into exile, namely, the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, and brought them (M)to Halah, (N)Habor, Hara, and (O)the river Gozan, to this day.

Acts 26

Paul's Defense Before Agrippa

26 So (A)Agrippa said to Paul, “You have permission to speak for yourself.” Then Paul stretched out his hand and made his defense:

“I consider myself fortunate that it is before you, King Agrippa, I am going to make my defense today (B)against all the accusations of the Jews, especially because you are familiar with all the (C)customs and (D)controversies of the Jews. Therefore I beg you to listen to me patiently.

(E)“My manner of life from my youth, spent from the beginning among (F)my own nation and in Jerusalem, is known by all the Jews. They have known for a long time, if they are willing to testify, that (G)according to the strictest (H)party of our (I)religion I have lived as (J)a Pharisee. And now I stand here on trial because of my hope in (K)the promise made by God to our fathers, (L)to which (M)our twelve tribes hope to (N)attain, as they earnestly worship night and day. And for this hope (O)I am accused by Jews, O king! Why is it thought (P)incredible by any of you that God raises the dead?

(Q)“I myself was convinced that I ought to do many things in opposing the name of (R)Jesus of Nazareth. 10 (S)And I did so in Jerusalem. I not only locked up many of the saints in prison after receiving authority (T)from the chief priests, but (U)when they were put to death I cast my vote against them. 11 And (V)I punished them often in all the synagogues and tried to make them (W)blaspheme, and (X)in raging fury against them I (Y)persecuted them even to foreign cities.

Paul Tells of His Conversion

12 “In this connection (Z)I journeyed to Damascus with the authority and commission of the chief priests. 13 At midday, O king, I saw on the way a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, that shone around me and those who journeyed with me. 14 And when we had all fallen to the ground, I heard a voice saying to me (AA)in the Hebrew language,[a] ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’ 15 And I said, ‘Who are you, Lord?’ And the Lord said, ‘I am Jesus whom you are persecuting. 16 But rise and (AB)stand upon your feet, for I have appeared to you for this purpose, (AC)to appoint you as a servant and witness to the things in which you have seen me and to those in which I will appear to you, 17 (AD)delivering you from your people and from the Gentiles—(AE)to whom I (AF)am sending you 18 (AG)to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from (AH)the power of Satan to God, that they may receive (AI)forgiveness of sins and (AJ)a place among those who are sanctified (AK)by faith in me.’

19 “Therefore, O King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to (AL)the heavenly vision, 20 but declared first (AM)to those in Damascus, (AN)then in Jerusalem and throughout all the region of Judea, and also (AO)to the Gentiles, that they should (AP)repent and (AQ)turn to God, performing deeds (AR)in keeping with their repentance. 21 For this reason (AS)the Jews seized me in the temple and tried to kill me. 22 (AT)To this day I have had the help that comes from God, and so (AU)I stand here testifying both to small and great, saying nothing but what (AV)the prophets and Moses said would come to pass: 23 (AW)that the Christ (AX)must suffer and that, (AY)by being the first (AZ)to rise from the dead, (BA)he would proclaim (BB)light both to our people and to the Gentiles.”

24 And as he was saying these things in his defense, Festus said with a loud voice, “Paul, (BC)you are out of your mind; your great learning is driving you out of your mind.” 25 But Paul said, “I am not out of my mind, (BD)most excellent Festus, but I am speaking (BE)true and (BF)rational words. 26 For (BG)the king knows about these things, and to him I speak boldly. For I am persuaded that none of these things has escaped his notice, for this has not been done in a corner. 27 King Agrippa, do you believe the prophets? I know that you believe.” 28 And Agrippa said to Paul, “In a short time would you persuade me to be (BH)a Christian?”[b] 29 And Paul said, “Whether short or long, I would to God that not only you but also all who hear me this day (BI)might become such as I am—except for (BJ)these chains.”

30 Then the king rose, and (BK)the governor and Bernice and those who were sitting with them. 31 And when they had withdrawn, they said to one another, (BL)“This man is doing nothing to deserve death or imprisonment.” 32 And Agrippa said to Festus, (BM)“This man could have been set (BN)free if he had not appealed (BO)to Caesar.”

Psalm 6

O Lord, Deliver My Life

To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments; according to (A)The Sheminith.[a] A Psalm of David.

O Lord, (B)rebuke me not in your anger,
nor (C)discipline me in your wrath.
Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am languishing;
(D)heal me, O Lord, (E)for my bones are troubled.
My (F)soul also is greatly troubled.
But you, O Lord(G)how long?

Turn, O Lord, deliver my life;
save me for the sake of your steadfast love.
For in (H)death there is no remembrance of you;
in Sheol who will give you praise?

I am (I)weary with my (J)moaning;
every night I flood my bed with tears;
I drench my couch with my weeping.
My (K)eye wastes away because of grief;
it grows weak because of all my foes.

(L)Depart from me, all you (M)workers of evil,
for the Lord (N)has heard the sound of my weeping.
The Lord has heard my (O)plea;
the Lord accepts my prayer.
10 All my enemies shall be ashamed and greatly troubled;
they shall (P)turn back and be put to shame in a moment.

1 Chronicles 4:5-5:17

(A)Ashhur, the father of Tekoa, had two wives, Helah and Naarah; Naarah bore him Ahuzzam, Hepher, Temeni, and Haahashtari. These were the sons of Naarah. The sons of Helah: Zereth, Izhar, and Ethnan. Koz fathered Anub, Zobebah, and the clans of Aharhel, the son of Harum. Jabez was (B)more honorable than his brothers; and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, “Because I bore him in pain.”[a] 10 Jabez called upon the God of Israel, saying, “Oh that you would bless me and enlarge my border, and that your hand might be with me, and that you would keep me from harm[b] so that it might not bring me pain!” And God granted what he asked. 11 Chelub, the brother of Shuhah, fathered Mehir, who fathered Eshton. 12 Eshton fathered Beth-rapha, Paseah, and Tehinnah, the father of Ir-nahash. These are the men of Recah. 13 The sons of (C)Kenaz: (D)Othniel and Seraiah; and the sons of Othniel: Hathath and Meonothai.[c] 14 Meonothai fathered Ophrah; and Seraiah fathered Joab, the father of Ge-harashim,[d] so-called because they were craftsmen. 15 The sons of (E)Caleb the son of Jephunneh: Iru, Elah, and Naam; and the son[e] of Elah: Kenaz. 16 The sons of Jehallelel: Ziph, Ziphah, Tiria, and Asarel. 17 The sons of Ezrah: Jether, Mered, Epher, and Jalon. These are the sons of Bithiah, the daughter of Pharaoh, whom Mered married;[f] and she conceived and bore[g] Miriam, Shammai, and Ishbah, the father of Eshtemoa. 18 And his Judahite wife bore (F)Jered the father of Gedor, Heber the father of Soco, and Jekuthiel the father of Zanoah. 19 The sons of the wife of Hodiah, the sister of Naham, were the fathers of Keilah the Garmite and Eshtemoa the Maacathite. 20 The sons of Shimon: Amnon, Rinnah, Ben-hanan, and Tilon. The sons of Ishi: Zoheth and Ben-zoheth. 21 The sons of (G)Shelah the son of Judah: Er the father of Lecah, Laadah the father of Mareshah, and the clans of the house of linen workers at Beth-ashbea; 22 and Jokim, and the men of Cozeba, and Joash, and Saraph, who ruled in Moab and returned to Lehem[h] (now the records[i] are ancient). 23 These were the potters who were inhabitants of Netaim and Gederah. They lived there in the king's service.

Descendants of Simeon

24 (H)The sons of Simeon: Nemuel, Jamin, Jarib, Zerah, Shaul; 25 Shallum was his son, Mibsam his son, Mishma his son. 26 The sons of Mishma: Hammuel his son, Zaccur his son, Shimei his son. 27 Shimei had sixteen sons and six daughters; but his brothers did not have many children, (I)nor did all their clan multiply (J)like the men of Judah. 28 (K)They lived in Beersheba, Moladah, Hazar-shual, 29 (L)Bilhah, Ezem, (M)Tolad, 30 (N)Bethuel, Hormah, Ziklag, 31 Beth-marcaboth, (O)Hazar-susim, (P)Beth-biri, and (Q)Shaaraim. These were their cities until David reigned. 32 And their villages were Etam, Ain, Rimmon, Tochen, and Ashan, five cities, 33 along with all their villages that were around these cities as far as (R)Baal. These were their settlements, and they kept a genealogical record.

34 Meshobab, Jamlech, Joshah the son of Amaziah, 35 Joel, Jehu the son of Joshibiah, son of Seraiah, son of Asiel, 36 Elioenai, Jaakobah, Jeshohaiah, Asaiah, Adiel, Jesimiel, Benaiah, 37 Ziza the son of Shiphi, son of Allon, son of Jedaiah, son of Shimri, son of Shemaiah— 38 these mentioned by name were princes in their clans, (S)and their fathers' houses increased greatly. 39 They journeyed to the entrance of (T)Gedor, to the east side of the valley, to seek pasture for their flocks, 40 where they found rich, good pasture, and the land was very broad, (U)quiet, and peaceful, for the former inhabitants there belonged to Ham. 41 (V)These, registered by name, came in the days of Hezekiah, king of Judah, and destroyed their tents and the Meunites who were found there, and marked them for destruction to this day, (W)and settled in their place, because there was pasture there for their flocks. 42 And some of them, five hundred men of the Simeonites, went to (X)Mount Seir, having as their leaders Pelatiah, Neariah, Rephaiah, and Uzziel, the sons of Ishi. 43 And they defeated (Y)the remnant of the Amalekites who had escaped, and they have lived there to this day.

Descendants of Reuben

The sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel ((Z)for he was the firstborn, but because (AA)he defiled his father's couch, (AB)his birthright was given to the sons of Joseph the son of Israel, so that he could not be enrolled as the oldest son; (AC)though Judah became strong among his brothers and a (AD)chief came from him, yet the birthright belonged to Joseph), the (AE)sons of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi. The sons of Joel: Shemaiah his son, Gog his son, Shimei his son, Micah his son, Reaiah his son, Baal his son, Beerah his son, whom (AF)Tiglath-pileser[j] king of Assyria carried away into exile; he was a chief of the Reubenites. And his kinsmen by their clans, (AG)when the genealogy of their generations was recorded: the chief, Jeiel, and Zechariah, and Bela the son of Azaz, son of (AH)Shema, son of Joel, who lived in (AI)Aroer, as far as (AJ)Nebo and (AK)Baal-meon. He also lived to the east as far as the entrance of the desert this side of the Euphrates, because their livestock had multiplied (AL)in the land of Gilead. 10 And in the days of Saul they waged war against the (AM)Hagrites, who fell into their hand. And they lived in their tents throughout all the region east of Gilead.

Descendants of Gad

11 The sons of Gad lived over against them in the land of Bashan as far as (AN)Salecah: 12 Joel the chief, Shapham the second, Janai, and Shaphat in Bashan. 13 And their kinsmen according to their fathers' houses: Michael, Meshullam, Sheba, Jorai, Jacan, Zia and Eber, seven. 14 These were the sons of Abihail the son of Huri, son of Jaroah, son of Gilead, son of Michael, son of Jeshishai, son of Jahdo, son of Buz. 15 Ahi the son of Abdiel, son of Guni, was chief in their fathers' houses, 16 and they lived in Gilead, in Bashan and in its towns, and in all the pasturelands of (AO)Sharon to their limits. 17 All of these were recorded in genealogies in the days of (AP)Jotham king of Judah, and in the days of (AQ)Jeroboam king of Israel.

Acts 25

Paul Appeals to Caesar

25 Now three days after Festus had arrived in (A)the province, he went up to Jerusalem from Caesarea. And the chief priests and the principal men of the Jews (B)laid out their case against Paul, and they urged him, asking as a favor against Paul[a] that he summon him to Jerusalem—because (C)they were planning an ambush to kill him on the way. Festus replied that Paul was being kept at Caesarea and that he himself intended to go there shortly. “So,” said he, “let the men of authority among you go down with me, and if there is anything wrong about the man, let them bring charges against him.”

After he stayed among them not more than eight or ten days, he went down to Caesarea. And the next day he took his seat on (D)the tribunal and ordered Paul to be brought. When he had arrived, the Jews who had come down from Jerusalem stood around him, bringing many and serious charges against him (E)that they could not prove. Paul argued in his defense, “Neither (F)against (G)the law of the Jews, nor against the temple, nor (H)against Caesar have I committed any offense.” But Festus, (I)wishing to do the Jews a favor, said to Paul, “Do you wish to go up to Jerusalem and there be tried on these charges before me?” 10 But Paul said, “I am standing before Caesar's (J)tribunal, where I ought to be tried. To the Jews I have done no wrong, as you yourself know very well. 11 If then I am a wrongdoer and have committed anything for which I deserve to die, I do not seek to escape death. But if there is nothing to their charges against me, no one can give me up to them. (K)I appeal to Caesar.” 12 Then Festus, when he had conferred with his council, answered, “To Caesar you have appealed; to Caesar you shall go.”

Paul Before Agrippa and Bernice

13 Now when some days had passed, Agrippa the king and Bernice arrived at Caesarea and greeted Festus. 14 And as they stayed there many days, Festus laid Paul's case before the king, saying, (L)“There is a man left prisoner by Felix, 15 and when I was at Jerusalem, the chief priests and the elders of the Jews laid out their case (M)against him, asking for a sentence of condemnation against him. 16 (N)I answered them that it was not the custom of the Romans to give up anyone (O)before the accused met the accusers face to face and had opportunity to make his defense concerning the charge laid against him. 17 (P)So when they came together here, I made no delay, but on the next day took my seat on (Q)the tribunal and ordered the man to be brought. 18 When the accusers stood up, they brought no charge in his case of such evils as I supposed. 19 Rather they (R)had certain points of dispute with him about their own religion and about (S)a certain Jesus, who was dead, but whom Paul asserted to be alive. 20 Being at a loss how to investigate these questions, I (T)asked whether he wanted to go to Jerusalem and be tried there regarding them. 21 But (U)when Paul had appealed to be kept in custody for the decision of (V)the emperor, I ordered him to be held until I could send him to Caesar.” 22 Then (W)Agrippa said to Festus, “I would like to hear the man myself.” “Tomorrow,” said he, “you will hear him.”

23 So on the next day (X)Agrippa and Bernice came with great pomp, and they entered the audience hall with the military tribunes and the prominent men of the city. Then, at the command of Festus, Paul was brought in. 24 And Festus said, “King Agrippa and all who are present with us, you see this man about whom (Y)the whole Jewish people petitioned me, both in Jerusalem and here, (Z)shouting that he ought not to live any longer. 25 But I found that (AA)he had done nothing deserving death. And (AB)as he himself appealed to (AC)the emperor, I decided to go ahead and send him. 26 But I have nothing definite to write to my lord about him. Therefore I have brought him before you all, and especially before you, King Agrippa, so that, after we have examined him, I may have something to write. 27 For it seems to me unreasonable, in sending a prisoner, not to indicate the charges against him.”

Psalm 5

Lead Me in Your Righteousness

To the choirmaster: for the flutes. A Psalm of David.

Give ear to my words, O Lord;
consider my (A)groaning.
Give attention to the sound of my cry,
my (B)King and my God,
for (C)to you do I pray.
O Lord, in (D)the morning you hear my voice;
in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you[a] and (E)watch.

For you are not a God who delights in wickedness;
evil may not dwell with you.
The (F)boastful shall not (G)stand before your eyes;
you (H)hate all evildoers.
You destroy those who speak (I)lies;
the Lord abhors (J)the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.

But I, through the abundance of your steadfast love,
will enter your house.
I will (K)bow down (L)toward your (M)holy temple
in the fear of you.
(N)Lead me, O Lord, in your righteousness
because of my enemies;
(O)make your way straight before me.

For there is no truth in their mouth;
their inmost self is (P)destruction;
(Q)their throat is (R)an open grave;
they (S)flatter with their tongue.
10 (T)Make them bear their guilt, O God;
let them (U)fall by their own counsels;
because of the abundance of their transgressions cast them out,
for they have rebelled against you.

11 But let all who (V)take refuge in you (W)rejoice;
let them ever sing for joy,
and spread your protection over them,
that those who love your name may (X)exult in you.
12 For you (Y)bless the righteous, O Lord;
you (Z)cover him with favor as with (AA)a shield.

1 Chronicles 2:18-4:4, Acts 24:1-27, Psalm 4:1-8, Proverbs 18:16-18

Today is the 6th day of July, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I’m Brian. It is awesome to be with you today around the Global Campfire as we just get situated and comfortable for our next step forward together in the Scriptures, and that will take us back into the Book of 1 Chronicles and just by way of reminder we began 1 Chronicles yesterday, we talked about that, we talked about this first part of 1 Chronicles being the famous genealogy section of the Bible and we’re reading through those names and were reading through them and giving them honor, understanding that this is the story of how we got here and these are the names of the people, each of them having their own life, their own laughter, their own tears, their own experience of life. Some of these names we can recognize because we’ve met these people and traveled through their stories. Some of them we don’t know much about but their part of, parts of families that are trying to be remembered and not forgotten because we’re reading well, Chronicles, we’re reading, reading a document from the time when people have been carried into exile and our writing things down to not forget. And so today 1 Chronicles chapter 2 verse 18 through 4 verse 4.

Commentary:

Okay so, in the book of Acts, we’re kinda moving at warp speed, day by day. So, as we’re reading through the story yesterday, we read of 40, more than 40 people, conspiring not to eat until they assassinate Paul in Jerusalem. And maybe we should even back up further. Paul on his way to Jerusalem was warned by everybody in his life, basically, not to go to Jerusalem, and Paul knew that he had a hardship in chains in front of them. And I remember that scene where he says you’re breaking my heart, all this crying, you’re breaking my heart, I have to obey God. And remember that scene where he’s talking to the leadership of the Ephesian church and he’s like “I know you will never see me again.” We went through all that, getting to Jerusalem, then Paul gets to Jerusalem and its mayhem. Right, so there’s a mob in the temple, he’s carried out by the Roman military, he’s questioned, he’s brought before the Hebrew High Council of the movers and shakers of administering the law and interpreting the law and shaping the culture. So, he comes before them and he as a Pharisee, he kind of knows the lay of the land here and so they become a divided counsel over Paul because he’s like I’m a Pharisee and I’m on trial because of because I believe in the resurrection of the dead which made all the other Pharisees go yup, we believe that to. There’s nothing wrong with this, Paul. And so, its Pharisee versus Sadducee kind of conflict and all of this is going on and then as for this group of 40 people get together to assassinate Paul and they have a plan to get Paul back before the Council and they’re going to kill them before he can ever get there. This is uncovered, it is reported, Paul is hastened out of Jerusalem under very heavy military guard, he is first taken to Antipatris which the ruins of Antipatris still exist today like there’s Roman roads going into the ruins of that city that still have chariot grooves in them. It’s a fascinating place to have walked on some of those streets and thought yup, Paul under arrest, avoiding assassination, came through here on his way to Caesarea Maritima which would have been the Roman capital of the region, very, very posh upscale Roman playground that also governed the region right on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. So, Paul gets there and it’s Felix, the Roman governor that questions Paul and there’s all these accusations coming against Paul and Paul’s defending himself and Felix understands this is a religious problem and so he’s kind of stalling a bit here and let’s just understand who we’re talking about Felix, the Roman governor held the same authority that Pontius Pilate, like he held the same position that Pontius Pilate held during Jesus’ lifetime and ministry. Felix was married to a Jewish woman. Her name is Drusilla and she was the daughter of King Herod Agrippa. This is some power we’re talking about here. According to the Book of Acts, Paul visited with him often sharing the good news of the gospel. So, Paul is sharing the gospel of Jesus, the story of Jesus with the Roman governor, the daughter of King Herod Agrippa, the Jewish high Council again and he’s doing this all under Roman, like nobody can do anything to him. I mean, obviously, somebody like Felix could thumbs down him and that would be the end of his life, but none of the Jewish people can get at Paul, the Romans are protecting him because he is a Roman citizen and he is able now to share in a peaceable way where you can’t be harmed, the good news of the gospel with all of the Jewish high Council and high-ranking Roman authorities. Like I said, when we started moving into this territory were Paul’s going back to Jerusalem, his influence only increases. All of the sudden he is speaking to people that he wouldn’t have had access to really under any circumstances he would have had a pretty hard time, like sending a letter to Felix and Caesarea Maritima saying hey, I’d love to, could we have coffee someday, I have some news to share with you. Like, but under these circumstances, Paul is able to share at length over multiple meetings, the story and we’ll continue to watch this happen as we move to the time of Paul’s incarceration.

Prayer:

So Father, we thank You for Your word and its many facets and the many ways that we can approach it and the many ways that Your Spirit uses it to guide and direct our steps, whether that be us understanding context, whether that be You speaking directly into our hearts words from the Scriptures that were written thousands of years ago that are so immediate in speaking so directly to us and so, we are grateful for Your work in our lives, Your kindness, Your patience with us, Your loving kindness, so we worship You with all of our hearts, we give ourselves to You and to Your service this day. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Announcements:

dailyauidobible.com is the website, its home base. It is indeed the way to find out what’s going on around here and I mean what we’ve been talking for the last week and ½ or so is, well couple weeks, is what’s coming up tomorrow on the 7th of July. It’s our own little Daily Audio Bible holiday we call the Long Walk and it’s a day that we will, all over the world’s all of us who can, will go somewhere beautiful backyard down the street to a park drive far away to a place that you find beautiful whatever you choose, go out and be in nature place where you don’t feel compelled to check your texts every other 30 seconds or social media every minute where you just go and allow nature to start speaking and healing. And it’s amazing to be out in it and just realize how much life there is that’s happening all around us that we’re rarely paying attention to, and go for a Long Walk with God, here as we move through the center of the year, recalibrate, re-group. Take the time to say everything that’s in our hearts that we just don’t have time to say and actually give space for quiet, listening to God, being with God. When you’re really in love with somebody yeah there’s plenty of things to talk about but you still communicating when you’re not talking, you’re still together and the peace of silence, just being contented with one another. All of this is part of the of the Long Walk each year. And it is a beautiful thing and so if you haven’t made plans, make plans for tomorrow. And obviously this is very solitary thing to go be alone with God, it’s a very solitary thing, but it’s something that we’re doing together at the same time all around the world also. So, we will put a post about the Long Walk on the Daily Audio Bible Facebook page tomorrow and wherever you go wherever it is, take a picture a little video or something and compose that with in the post for the for the Long Walk and all of a sudden you get to see windows into each other’s lives and the beauty of God’s creation all over the world and I love that. And so, that is tomorrow and I’ve also been mentioning a resource that is really perfect, perfect for the Long Walk and it is called Heart: A Contemplative Journey and it’s, it’s kind of a guided prayer and contemplative musical journey that just begins the conversation. It just opens our hearts to the different emotions that we feel and that we go through and that often we don’t invite God into we just kind of muscle it out or work through whatever but to just open ourselves to these things, inviting God into what we feel, and the emotions of our hearts is one way that we open ourselves to Him and surrender before Him and worship as we invite Him into our life. So, that resource can be found wherever you get your music so like the iTunes store, YouTube music, or wherever you get your music. Just search for my name Brian Hardin or search for Heart: A Contemplative Journey and you’ll find it and you can purchase it and download it and take it along with you on your Long Walk and it’s a wonderful way to start things so check that out.

Prayers and Encouragement:

Hi guys it’s Sparky. I just wanted to take a minute; I’ve never done it. Listening to the DAB for two years now and I’ve never done but I’d like to say thank you to Brian and the Hardin Family, how they’ve completely changed my perspective on the outlook of life and the way Brian preaches. We love your brother. As I told my wife at the end of every reading, he says I love you and I’ll see you tomorrow. I tell myself I love you too brother and I just wanted to thank him for making platform to where we can stop being so self-centered and see things through the other eyes of other people. The struggles that this life has and Brian you’re an amazing man and you’ve definitely changed mine and my family’s life and I just want to give you kudos for that and my family are on the DAB. Ya’ll are our family. Listening to Blind Tony and I don’t have Facebook and I don’t have the community on that but I hear ya’ll and I know you. And that’s due to Christ leading through Brian and you and Jill and your family I love you guys. Hope you have an awesome Fourth of July weekend and be blessed and go with God.

Little Sharie in Canada, this is your brother in Baltimore, Maryland. I heard your experience at church from the July 2nd podcast and I just wanna kind of lift you up in prayer because of the awkwardness, the awkward silences and it was kind of pulling away and I heard the anguish and hurt in your voice and I just pray that Lord Jesus that you’d give Sharie Your peace and Your kindness and Lord give her Your strength and Your love. Let her know that Your love is unconditional for her oh God according to Your will and purposes. God cause the people to be more sensitive to Your Holy Spirit as to being a loving community. Administer Your grace and Holy Spirit oh God and let the people know that You know all things and Your love for all things Lord Jesus. Lord Jesus we commit this and these things in Your hands in the name of Jesus. In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen. Love you lil sis and we’ll keep you in prayer. Bye now.

Hi Daily Audio Bible this is Tanis I’m calling in from Cleveland Ohio. I’m requesting prayer for myself and my family. On June 11th we lost one of my sisters and it’s been very hard. I just saw her on June 10th we were having a great conversation and then I get the call on June 11th that she had been in a tragic car accident and she’s gone on to be with, to glory. And with my mom, we lost my mom last year April 14th so here we are again at this side of grief and it’s just weird, to say the least. I feel like me feelings are a bit; I don’t know which feelings to grab first you know because it’s just feels as though there are just so many things going on. I think grabbing a feeling means that I have to now face a reality again that I’ve lost someone significant in my life. So, I guess I’m in denial right at the moment actually, I know that I’m in denial because I’m stuck, I’m still stuck on our conversation on Thursday and then I’m also you know, concerned about my dad he lost his wife of 58 years and now a daughter. I’m asking you guys for prayer and comfort for my family. My sister had three beautiful children and five beautiful grandchildren. And they’re all adult children but you know I want them to know Jesus like I know Him or better than I know Him or however you can phrase that. So, please pray for our family and my other siblings, call them by name Pam, Guy, Jennifer, my name again is Tanis. Call our names and I thank you guys so much for all that you do. In Jesus name thank you. Amen. Bye bye.

Good morning DAB family it’s J from the Everglades. I think I need to change out my moniker and I may change every single time I call right now because things are changing and life is moving forward. Today I’m a rot a Rut Rocker, I rocked myself right out of a rut. No, the Holy Spirit helped guide me out of my rut. But that rut came from rubbing elbows with and being influenced by other people. And it was so amazing that the day that I was influenced from very professional people through an interview process, Brian read in June 28th 2 Kings chapter 13 verses 20 and 21, when a dead body was thrown on Elisha’s tomb and touched Elisha’s bones the man came to life and stood up on his feet and it is crazy and I thank You Lord Jesus that I was encouraged to go be rubbing elbows with people who influenced me for the best to stand up. I now have found new appreciation for my job I found new appreciation for the people I work with and I have new motivation to do a better job at what I’m already doing. I had to cast my net in order to get to that space. And then today I listened to Ben from PA ask for prayers for his wife who’s a stay-at-home mom with three kids and it just reminded me that sometimes we have to cast that net in order to know that we’re exactly where we are, need to be. Lord, thank You for that. I pray for Ben’s wife. In Jesus name. Amen.

Hi everybody, Susan from Canada, God’s Yellow Flower calling and I just wanted to give you an update on what’s going on in our life here. In exactly one week we’re leaving for Belville, a 1500-mile move. Things are going smoothly, God is putting things together, praise His holy name. Even the doctor from, that Keith will be seeing there has called us and wants to talk to us even before we move. So, my daughter and her husband have everything prepared and ready for our arrival, goodness, gracious, me. What a time this has been, busy, busy. But now things are done and its goodbye time for all my friends and family here in Winnipeg. It’s a tearful time for this week. And then next Saturday we’ll be flying out of Winnipeg and landing in Toronto and then a two-hour drive to Bellville. So, keep up in your prayers. I love you all. God Bless you, Bye.
