Nehemiah 3:15-5:15 , 1 Corinthians 7:25-40 , Psalms 32:1-11 , Proverbs 21:5-7

Today is the 12th day of August. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian. It’s great to be here with you today as we cross the threshold into a brand-new, shiny, sparkly new week that nothing has happened yet. And we’re stepping into it and although we don’t know everything that will happen this week we do know that our choices will add up to be what this week looked like. And, so, we’re out in front of them right now and we can choose to walk with God, which is what this the rhythm of the Scripture is all about, which why we come around the global campfire every day. So, we’re in a new week. We’ll read from the Good News Translation this week and we’ll pick up where we left off, Nehemiah chapter 3 verse 15 to 5 verse 13 today.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for this new threshold, this new week that we have just stepped into and we thank You. We thank You for the message that we find in Nehemiah, simply by watching his story, watching the way that he interacts and the way that he keeps his purpose clearly before him. And Father, we ask that You keep our purpose clearly before us as we walk through this week, guided by the power of Your Holy Spirit. Come Holy Spirit we pray. We love You, we worship You, we invite You, we need You. And, so, we open ourselves fully to Your guidance and leadership. Come Jesus we pray. In Your mighty name, we ask. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Good morning Daily Audio Bible. This is Terry the Trucker. I want to say good morning to Brian and Jill and all the crew as I cruise through Nashville this morning. It’s 615, Thursday morning. I want to thank everyone for the continued prayers. I’m 90 something days drug-free. I still have a control issue with alcohol. Not near as bad as it was but I still have an issue with that. I want to call and tell everybody that I’m praying for you and was praying going through Nashville this morning. And it’s really increased my faith, my prayer life, having an opportunity to be able to pray for everyone and their needs. It’s an honor to be able to. You know, just when I think that nobody’s praying for me somebody calls in and says, I’m praying for you Terry the Trucker. It brings joy to my heart knowing I’m being prayed for. I’m heading home to Texas to spend the night and head back out. I’ll continue to pray and to continue to lift each and every one of you up to the Lord. You all have a blessed day.

Hey family. This is Tim in Tampa. I just want to lift up Angel in California. She’s having brain surgery and I just heard her request this morning. Father, we just lift our sister angel before You in Jesus name. And Lord I know that You are able to guide the surgeons. And Lord I pray that You would even just to something miraculous, so that when they get in there they do find that there is really nothing they need to do that’s serious. I just thank You so much for touching Angel and for helping her to get through this situation Lord. And just…we want to hear about full healing in Jesus name. And we just thank You for that Lord. I would just ask that You would also pray for me. I am a consultant, a businessman and sometimes it just gets…you kind of wonder what’s going on. I just cannot do this on my own. I give this whole business to the Lord every day. And just pray for me that I would find favor. It can get discouraging at times. And then sometimes there are great victories. It’s just kind of up and down. So, if you think about me here when you’re out and about doing your stuff, just let me up and just ask that the Lord would continue to guide this whole situation here and help me out. All right. Thanks a lot. You will have a great day. Take care.

Hi DAB family this is __ from the UK. This is a praise report and a prayer request. I’m asking for a prayer request for my friend Kim whose dad has been dying from cancer. They’ve given him a terminal illness and he’s only got maybe two months to live. He doesn’t know Christ but he has taken his granddaughter to church on multiple occasions. My friend doesn’t know Christ either and it would be wonderful for this to be used as an example to show God’s glory with a miraculous healing, which is __ we’re believing in. And a prayer for my friend Jenny whose father only died the other week. And is struggling with her life as she was very close to him. And he was also __. So, I ask for prayer for both of them. I’d also like to give a praise report for my daughter Jesmond. She’s still getting closer to the Lord and He has blessed her with her own flat and in a home that she is __. She’s really blessed and __ at work and so much more. So, thank you for your prayers and I ask you to continue praying. I keep praying for you all and listening to you all. I’m about a month and ½ behind the Daily Audio Bible but I still keep praying for the people that I listen to. So, you’re still getting prayed for now. __ the prayer requests. Thank you family. Bye-bye.

This is Lori from North Carolina, a first time caller. Today is Thursday, August 9th. I’m calling in for Angel from California who’s having brain surgery on Friday. I just wanted to share my story with you. I will be 57 years old next month but when I was 20 I lived in California and was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. I underwent surgery but it turned out that the tumor was so tangled in my speech center that it couldn’t be removed. So, the surgeon just took a biopsy of the tumor, closed me back up, and set me up with hospice because I deemed terminal. But in the meantime, as I was preparing to die, the tumor sample was tested in the hospital and then sent to several labs around the country, but each time the results came back that the tumor was benign. I was kind of __. So, I underwent radiation to shrink the tumor because it was putting pressure on my brain and I had been healthy ever since. 37 years and counting. My surgeon wrote in my patient notes that there was no earthly explanation for this outcome and there wasn’t one. There was a divine explanation. The Saints were praying for me and the Lord healed me. So, to bring this story full circle, God had a beautiful surprise in store. Several years later I became one of the first DJs on K Love radio and ended up marrying one of my listeners. God brought the love of my life to be through my voice and I had a speech center in my brain where a tumor had once threatened my life. Now that’s redemption and our Father God is amazing. So, I’m praying for you Angel and I’m already praising God for your miracle outcome that no tumor will be found in you. By Jesus finished work on the cross you are just as healed as you are saved. By his stripes you were healed you are healed and you will be continually healed. And I can’t wait to hear your beautiful testimony my dear sister.

Nehemiah 1:1-3:14 , 1 Corinthians 7:1-24 , Psalms 31:19-24 , Proverbs 21:4

Today is the 11th day of August. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I’m Brian. It’s great to be here with you today as it is every day. And here we are closing down another week. We just keep taking these steps forward every day and they keep adding up to weeks which add up to months and eventually they will add up to a year. And a complete journey through the Scriptures. But we’re not there, we’re here. August 11. Of course, we will pick up where we left off yesterday. But that’s gonna bring us to the threshold of a new book. We completed the book of Ezra yesterday, which will bring us to the book of Nehemiah today. So, let’s talk about that.

Introduction to the book of Nehemiah:

Nehemiah is obviously a biblical book. And it’s part of a grouping of books known as the books of history. And Nehemiah will pick up largely where Ezra left off. In fact, Christian tradition suggests that Ezra is at least one of the authors of Nehemiah because Ezra and Nehemiah were at one time a single manuscript. And we’ve seen this with other books in the Bible like first and second Kings and first and second Chronicles, which were all one volume at one point. So, Ezra and Nehemiah were one manuscript at one point, but were broken apart for ease of reference. So, let’s talk about Nehemiah because this is a book that will truly guide us on how to dream a dream, see a vision, go for it and actually see it through. So, Nehemiah was an exile in Persia. And he’d followed the story of God’s favor in allowing the remnant, the few Jewish people who remained, to go back to their homeland and rebuild God’s temple, the story that we began in Ezra. And Nehemiah was able to keep up with the story and follow it closely because he was a direct servant to the Persian king. And what pulled Nehemiah’s heart into months of intercession was this image that he couldn’t get out of his mind. This heartbreaking thought of God’s temple, the very symbol of the Jewish people and the place where God met with mankind. It was being rebuilt but it was undefended. And so Nehemiah had a passion to rebuild Jerusalem’s walls. And it began to simmer within him until he couldn’t hold it back from the king, who ultimately gave him permission to go and pursue this. So, Nehemiah faced all kinds of opposition but he persevered through it all. He was single mindedly resolute and he did not lose sight of his utter dependence on God. And these are all things required for a successful life of faith. So, as we’ll see in the story, the wall was rebuilt in record time. And Nehemiah, as he promised the king, returned to Persia to report and resume his role as a servant of the king. And then later he was sent again to Jerusalem. When he got there this second time he was troubled deeply. The wall was strong, but the people were weak. And so Nehemiah stepped into that breach, restoring Israel to its glory before the Lord. And repentance and revival spread throughout the land as the law was read. So, although Nehemiah’s grouped in the books of history, it’s not just a great story or historical account. It’s a fantastic lesson. It’s a brilliant metaphor for how to pursue a passion and live into a calling. So, we begin. Nehemiah 1:1-3:14. And we’ve been reading from the English Standard Version this week and that’s what we’ll do today.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for another week. Another week to allow Your Word to speak to us. Another week for Your Holy Spirit to shape us. And we look back over this week and we can see the places that we’ve fallen short. And we can certainly declare Your faithfulness. And so we are grateful. With humble hearts, we announce Your mercy as we conclude this week and look forward to all that You will speak and all that You will do in the days ahead. Come Holy Spirit we pray. In the mighty name of Jesus we ask. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hello. My name is Bill. I’m a first time caller and I’m requesting prayer for my wife Angel who will be undergoing surgery this Friday for two aneurysms located in her brain. Please pray for her safety during the surgery as well as her well-being afterwards. And that the Lord will give her a peace that surpasses all understanding at this time and for an extra measure of grace. I thank you so much and may God bless you.

Hi. This is Victoria Soldier. Just calling to pray for some of the DABbers. I wanted to say welcome to the new callers and also to the ones who are going through depression, those that are sick, and especially for those involved in the fire down in California. Let’s pray for those with the fire that’s going on down there. It’s really, really bad and a lot of people are suffering. Gracious Father we come to today Lord knowing that You’re a God can do anything. Lord there’s someone who’s going through depression, there’s someone who’s kind of lost their way, there’s someone who’s confused in where You want them to go. Lord we just ask You to have Your way. You point them in the direction. You touch them and heal them Lord. You direct them Father in the name of Jesus. Lord, You touch those in California in that fire Lord. Oh Lord, You help them put that fire out. Oh Lord, those people’s houses and lives can be saved in the name of Jesus. Lord we just ask You to touch Your people Lord, touch those who are going through in their marriages Lord. The enemy is trying to take away the marriages and trying to break up the families. Lord You touch them Lord. You touch the family members and You touch our kids on their way to school. You touch their minds Lord that they would go with a mind to learn and protect their minds and their wills on the way from even sexual traffickers Lord in the name of Jesus. And Lord we will give You the glory, honor, and the praise. Lord I want to give a shout out to Sharon and to Blind Tony and to Diyala and to Pastor Genne and to all of the DABbers and Joe the Protector and all the people of God. Continue to be encouraged in the Lord. Brian and Jill, thanks for the podcast. Talk to you later. Bye-bye.

Greetings in the name of Jesus. I’d like to pray for the school year starting up. Kids are going back to school, some for the first time. Teachers are going to school sometimes for many years. Some it’s their first day to teach a class. So, I lift up the teachers, the administrators, and the children. I speak wisdom, I speak in the name of Jesus that there’s no barriers, the Spirit of God goes with the believer wherever they go into a school, into a gym, onto the field, and then back at home. I pray for wisdom for the families, the parents, and understanding, that there be no strife, that there be a working together in the name of Jesus. I pray against all violence. I speak an end to all violence. I proclaim that the video games that these kids watch will have no effect, no negative effect, on their minds on their thoughts, that they’ll have pure thoughts in the name of Jesus. We put a block against violence. We put a block against strife. We put a block against envy. We stop bullying in the name of Jesus. I say speak to bullying, I say cease. I say see your brother as your brother and love your brother and love your neighbor as yourself. The Spirit of the God of Isaac, Jacob, of Israel. We speak in the name of Jesus. Your Spirit, the Spirit of God, the Spirit of peace reigns in this world. It is king. It is Lord. And that the king, the prince, of the power here be put down in the name of Jesus. There be peace in the schools and will be great learning, wisdom, and in the name of Jesus we praise. Glory to God in the name of Jesus.

Hi everyone. I’m having some technical difficulties and I’m not completely sure the message I just recorded actually got sent or not. So, I’m going to give this one more try. My name is Kate and I wanted to ask you all to pray for me if the Spirit leads you to. I have been, over the past couple years, I’ve been stepping progressively more into the leadership of my local church. Not in the role of a pastor but just within the lay leadership, kind of in the governance structure of our church. And I have been so blessed in this time to see that each time that I step out, even if I feel afraid or insufficient to see God blessing me and equipping me and growing me. But in the past couple months in particular is been more challenging. Honestly, intimidating at times. __ in that, that God would give me a faithful and humble and willing servant in this role that he’s placed me in. Yeah, I’ve felt God putting that on my heart in the past couple weeks, especially that I need to reach out and humble myself enough to ask for prayer in this role. And as I ask you also be praying for me, particularly, I also want to also encourage all of us to remember to pray for Brian and Jill and their family as they serve us here with the Daily Audio Bible and also with your local pastors and your local church leadership. Thank you so much.

Ezra 10:1-44 , 1 Corinthians 6:1-20 , Psalms 31:9-18 , Proverbs 21:3

Today is August 10th. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I’m Brian and it’s great to be here with you as it is every day that we take another step forward. And, so, I’m glad we can come around this global campfire and be together and welcome the presence of the Lord among us, and allow God’s word to speak. We’re reading from the English Standard Version this week and today we’ll pick up where we left off. We’re working our way through the story of Ezra, chapter 10 verse 1 through 44.

Commentary:

Okay. So, as we continue through this letter that Paul has written to the church at Corinth, we can see Paul, he is not afraid to be direct. Actually, we find this in pretty much all of the letter writers in the New Testament. And later in the year will hear from James. He’s not afraid to be direct. We’ll hear from Peter. He’s not afraid. And we’ll hear from the apostle John again, who is also a son of thunder. He’s not afraid to be direct, but as we can see, neither is Paul. For example, he kinda shames the Corinthians today for taking each other to court to resolve issues that they should have been able to handle within the community of faith. And he condemns a number of behaviors strongly. But just because Paul was direct, does not mean that shame and condemnation was his intention? It actually wasn’t. Paul was trying to call the people in the churches to a higher standard. And not just a higher moral stand, like, just more rules to obey. He was trying to reveal to them a different, a completely different reality, one in which freedom reigned. So, in Paul’s worldview, when Jesus came that changed the entire scope of all humanity, right? Through Christ, essentially, a new humanity was created of which Jesus was the firstborn. We learned this when we were going through Paul’s last letter, the book of Romans. So, I mean, mankind had been under this curse of rebellion and of sin and that created this breach, this chasm, between humanity and divinity, between God and man, and the repercussions were ever visible everywhere, they still are. Like, I’m not telling you something you haven’t heard before. Like, this is Christian orthodoxy 101. A breach was created by sin. Man could not repair the breach. God came and rescued humanity through Jesus and did away with what separated man and God, which was sin. And Jesus resurrection eliminated the power of sin in the life of a believer. So, that is freedom, which is a different definition or a different kind of freedom than the world offers. And that kind of freedom basically says, look, you can do whatever you want, whenever you want, with whoever you choose. No matter what the problems are, you’re free to do as you like. Paul’s perspective on this and why he’s being so direct today is to say, that is not actually freedom, it’s really bondage in disguise. So, Paul says in our reading today. I am allowed to do anything but not everything is good for me. I can do whatever I want but I must not become a slave to anything. And Paul was telling these Corinthian believers that they could do whatever they wanted, but just because you have the ability to make those kinds of choices doesn’t mean they’re good choices. So, I mean, like, how can we gage ourselves? How can…how can we keep an eye on ourselves and know when we start to veer off the narrow path that leads to life into the wide path leads to death? According to Paul, we have to stay aware of what we’re becoming a slave to because slavery isn’t freedom. But we can use our freedom to become slaves and enslave others. So, let’s invite the Holy Spirit into that today. What am I becoming a slave to? What is it that I already know. I’m already moving in that direction. I’m enslaving myself. Let’s invite the Holy Spirit into that. And as we do, let’s remember, we have been set free from that. The choice is ours whether we’re going to re-enslave ourselves.

Father, we do. We invite you into that. We invite you into what we encounter in the Scriptures most every day and we invite you into this. Show us Holy Spirit. What are the things that we are beginning to enslave ourselves with when we are free? And we surrender those things to you. We’re not walking back into bondage. We’re going to live free. We’re going to live as a part of this new thing that you are doing in the world of which Jesus is the firstborn and we have also been born into it. We’re going to live in a free world and no longer be slaves of sin. Come Holy Spirit. we pray. In Jesus name we ask. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hello DAB family. This is Mike from Texas. It is August the 6th and I’m listening to, I think it’s the 30th of July. I’m always behind but, anyways, I just want to call in. I’ve been procrastinating here about calling in and I need to call in more frequently. And just sometimes it’s just time gets away and I don’t call. Anyways, I just want to call in and give thanks to Brian and Jill for this awesome, fantastic ministry that you have created __ to bring us every day 24/7/365. Thank you very much. And thank you for all the people behind the scenes and anybody that calls in on the prayer lines. The people to call __ thank you guys for calling and encouraging us and telling us your stories __. And we’re praying for you. And for the people that don’t call in. __ we’re praying. I just encourage anybody to call in and to put your prayer request out there because you never know who’s going to be praying for you. It could be somebody on the other side of the world and it could be praying us that’s doing it at the same time. So, anyway, I just want to encourage everybody to give to this ministry. It’s a fantastic ministry to give. You buy a couple coffee every day or whatever. You spend that money and I would encourage you to giving a dollar a day wouldn’t be a bad thing. $30 a month it’s a good start. $30 a month. And I challenge anybody to give at least $30 a month. __ DAB family community. And I just want to pay for marriage. Lord, I want a lift of all marriages to You Father God and continue to be into marriages, restoring the marriages making us like you Lord…

Hi Daily Audio Bible family. My name is Craig Gross and I am the proud Goldstar father of Cpl. Frank Robert Gross who is now in heaven with our Lord Jesus Christ. He gave the full measure for our country, 16 July 2011 and we buried him in Arlington August 19, 2011 on his birthday. And the reason why I’m calling today is because I would like all of us to pray for our soldiers who are valiantly defending our freedom of religion, our first amendment right to worship who we want, when we want, and where we want. Let us never forget that there were two great people in history who died for us, first the Lord Jesus Christ to give us spiritual victory over sin, and then the soldier who died for us to give us victory over tyranny. I want to thank the DAB family for being here. And let’s all remember, freedom is not free.

Hey DABbers, this is Adventuresome Mom from Arizona. I’ve called and once before but I’m calling again. I am just really wanting to encourage everyone to give to the Daily Audio Bible. I know God has put it on my heart for months and months and every time Brian says, hey hit the Give button, I’m like, yeah I need to do that, I need to do that. And I hadn’t. And I finally did. And I just want to encourage everyone else to give to this fabulous ministry. I know we all benefit so much and it takes so much to actually put this community together. And even if, the way I figure it is, if I would give $10 a month, that is a little over $0.25 a day. And wow, I mean know I can give $0.25 a day and I know most of us can. So, anyway, just an encouragement for everyone out there. God bless you all. I love being part of this community. Brian, Jill, your family, everyone behind the scenes, God bless you and have a great day.

Good morning DAB family. I pray that each and every one of you are well in the name of our holy Christ Jesus. Brian and Jill, thank you so much for this platform. I don’t know what I would do without this ministry and I thank the Lord for using you in such a mighty way. I’m calling with a heavy heart for the mother whose name I don’t recall but you have the 17-year-old daughter Faith who has attempted suicide three times and is undergoing a treatment that’s costing her $1000 a month. I am so sorry, first of all, that you’re going through this but you are the pastor of the church and I know that you trust in the Lord and I’m asking you in the name of Jesus, hold onto that trust. Hold onto that faith. Her name is so powerful. She has the name of Faith. Hold onto that faith. Hold onto that God we serve. Continue to serve the Lord as you are going through this storm. God will make away. I don’t know how. I don’t know when. And I’m telling you because my 27-year-old daughter attempted suicide at the age of 14. And just a few months ago I felt like she was back in that valley. But I know I had to stand in faith. I had to stand firm and trust in the Lord that He is not going to let us down. He’s going to bring us through this. We just have to believe it. Believe it. Believe in what we do not see. Believe in what we do not hear. Believe will be do not feel. We’re going to believe it and stand firm. And I’m praying with you and I know that our daughters are going to come through in the name of Jesus. Esther from New York. God bless you.

Ezra 8:21-9:15 , 1 Corinthians 5:1-13 , Psalms 31:1-8 , Proverbs 21:1-2

Today is the 9th day of August. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian and it’s great to be here with you in the steamy summer months here in the rolling hills of Tennessee. And I trust that it is pleasant and beautiful wherever it is that you may be in the world, but it’s always pleasant here around the global campfire that we enjoy each and every day. And, so, let’s settle in and allow God’s word to come washing over us as we take the next step forward. This week we’re reading from the English Standard Version and picking up where we left off yesterday. Ezra chapter 8 verse 21 through 9:15.

Commentary:

Okay. So, in our reading from Ezra today. We followed Ezra’s journey to the remnant of Israelites who had survived the exile and had been allowed to return to rebuild Jerusalem and the Temple. And when Ezra got there, he quickly learned about the behavior of those survivors and that he was appalled, right? So, he sat, he tore his clothes. He sat all day long, completely shocked. And what shocked Ezra so bad was the fact that the few who had survived the exile were participating in the very behaviors that had undermined and destroyed their culture to begin with. They were immorally intermingling with the neighboring cultures and this was leading them into idolatry and rebellion against God. And they knew better but they were willfully rebelling against God. And, so, Ezra’ like, God, I’m ashamed, like my face is blushing. I can’t even face You for our sins are piled higher than our heads.

Now, when we get to Paul’s letter, we’ve got the same kind of willful rebellion going on and it was taking place 600 years later. So a man and his stepmother were openly having sex within the church at Corinth. And they were being affirmed by the community. And Paul was as appalled as Ezra had been. And, so, Paul’s like…I can’t…I can’t even believe what I’m hearing that’s happening there. So, in both stories, both Old and New Testament stories, we see the extreme of deception, right. The people involved knew the truth, but deception and pride allowed them to rationalize their immorality and the same thing happens…the same thing happens to us. When we allow deception to get a hold of us and start growing within us, we’re invariably going to be lead into some sort of immoral behavior, and as we go that way we’ll justify just about anything, right? Intermingling with sin in ways that we know are wrong will destroy us in the end. If there’s anything the Bible has shown us so far this year it’s that and it’s the same now as it was 2500 years ago for Ezra and 2000 years ago for Paul. It’s because these behaviors establish a new normal so what we once avoided slowly becomes acceptable. And as the process repeats itself in our lives you don’t realize that sin is taking hold of us and don’t often become aware until destruction is upon us. So, let’s consider what we’re rationalizing and justifying that we know is wrong. The voice of deception is going to say, there isn’t a problem, we’re free to do whatever we want. But we have to remember with the Scriptures have told us. Real freedom happens when there is nothing false within us and there’s nothing to hide. So, if we consider what we might be hiding we’re going to find the presence of deception and pride.

Prayer:

Holy Spirit, we invite you into that. We have some fairly stark examples from the Scriptures today. We have some fairly stark responses from Scripture today. And, so, we humble ourselves as we invite your Holy Spirit to speak to us individually about the places that we’re allowing deception to grow. And if we continue to let it grow it will lead us on a path away from life, away from the path that we want to be walking on. So, come Holy Spirit we surrender to You. We invite Your presence. We ask that You show us the places that we’re allowing this. And we ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hey what’s up everybody? It’s Miguel from Santa Rosa. Leaving a message for James the Teacher in LA. James, it’s ironic because a while ago he had left a comical message about hearing me call in and you thought you were listening to yourself. A couple weeks ago you had left your prayer request for your marriage for struggle against pornography and it was ironic because I was struggling with that as well about this time last year. So, it was like I was listening to myself. So, I wanted to call and encourage you as a brother that’s on the other side of things because my story was very similar. Me and my wife were going through some very tough postpartum challenges. It affected our marriage. It affected my struggle with old sin that had been put away and had reared its ugly head again. But I want to encourage you with what I found to be the most powerful thing was, that the cure that I saw was also the thing I was most scared of, which was inviting my wife into the struggle, to invite her to pray for me. I had to say, look, I am struggling with this thing and you are my greatest strength. Of course, other than Jesus, but she’s there and she’s our strength. So, invite your wife to pray for you and I will be praying for you brother because I’ve been there and I’ve walked through it. So, James I love you. I’m praying for you. May the Lord strengthen you and equip you to fight this battle. You’re not alone my brother. You’re not alone. You will not be left alone. Bless you.

Hi. This is Valerie. I’m calling from south of Atlanta. I’m a couple of days behind and I just listened to August the 4th and my heart just went out to Will in Montana who is feeling discouraged and he’s struggling. Will, at the end of your call where you said Jesus is Lord and at first you seemed hesitant, like he still wasn’t sure, and as you kept repeating it your voice got stronger and stronger and just really touched me, that it seems like you were just really not sure anymore but then the power of God just kinda filled you up and you became reassured and you knew that is where your strength comes from. And I just want to let you know that brother I’m praying for you, I’m praying for your family, and your finances. I know what it’s like and I always tell people you just have to ride the wave. When you’re down you just got to know that you’re going to come back up soon and that God’s going to be there and that He is in everything. And I just want you to know I’m praying for you brother. And also for Asia in Chicago, you called right after that and you’re dealing with a verbally abusive father and you feel like you’re not loved. And I just want to tell you my sweet, your loved, your loved with an abundant love and even when…even when we can’t see it from those around us you just need to know sweetie that there are people that love you, they just don’t know how to show it. They’re struggling in their own way to show how much they love because they’re struggling in themselves. And in those times you just have to put your trust in God that He loves you and that He will be your daddy, that He gave everything He had for you and He’s reaching out for you and He wants to engulf you and hold you and comfort you. And just draw on that. And just know that, above all, you are loved. God bless.

Hello my DAB family. This is Mark Street from Sydney Australia. Today is Tuesday the 7th of August and I’m ringing…I’ve got a lot __ word. I’ve just been thinking about…I’ve been thinking about John from Bethlehem. I’ve been thinking about…today…Show Me God’s Love and I’ve been thinking about Michael from the Tribe of Joseph, the Israelite. And also Rebecca from Michigan. But Gods’ really put on my heart today to pray for Rebecca from Michigan. So, let me pray. Rebecca, I know that you’ve been longing to find a good Christian partner to share your life with and to follow with God. And God really put on my heart to reach out to you and say He hasn’t forgotten about you. I haven’t heard from you for a while Rebecca but, dear heavenly Father we come to You lost sometimes and have grief for not finding a partner, not finding somebody that can love us, forgetting sometimes that You love us more than anybody in this earthly world can. Sometimes Lord we find it hard to feel that human touch from You Lord…and….humans need to think Lord. Lord we lift up Rebecca once again Lord. Fill her with Your love so she feels needed, she feels wanted, she feels cared for by You Lord. And we know You do care for her Lord. Lord, in Your name we ask for these things. I love you Rebecca and I hope things are going well for you. Lee from New Jersey, I heard your message and, yes, we do indeed need to get in contact with each other. Love you family. Talk to you soon again. Bye.

My beloved friends, this is Angel from California. Prayer changes things. God is on the throne and does change things. Don’t forget that. It’s very important that we always remember that when we pray God is the silent listener to every conversation. I was calling today because I’m going to go for brain surgery on Friday and I need your prayers. I have already agreed in the word that the Lord has healed me and when I go in, when the doctors look around, they will not find anything wrong with me because He is, I am in this world. I would very much appreciate your prayers. I love you. And may God bless each and every one of you. Angel from California.

Ezra 7:1-8:20, 1 Corinthians 4:1-21 , Psalms 30:1-12 , Proverbs 20:28-30

Today is the 8th day of August. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I’m Brian. It is an honor and a pleasure to be here with you today and every day because every day that we get together we take a step forward as we move through the Scriptures. And this is why we are here. So we’ll take that next step by picking up where we left off yesterday, kind of one foot in front of the other. Ezra 7:1-8:20 today. And we’re reading from the English Standard Version this week.

Commentary:

Okay. So when we’re reading from 1 Corinthians yesterday, we considered how we try to get spiritual identity based on who we follow or what tribe we belong to. And as we’re attempting to do this, we often elevate our leaders to higher places of authority in our lives, which isn’t sinful or wrong or bad in any way. Leaders deserve honor. But we can place unrealistic expectations by presuming them to be our only conduit to God. Cause its easier to let someone else do the heavy lifting and so we get our identity this way. And when we do this, we’re absolving ourselves of the responsibility of actually walking with God on our own. So in our reading from 1 Corinthians 4 today, Paul continued with the theme. And he said, If you pay attention to what I’ve quoted from the Scriptures, you won’t be proud of one of your leaders at the expense of another, for what gives you the right to make that kind of a judgement? What do you have that hasn’t been given to you as a gift? So this is obviously striking a nerve for Paul and for good reason. Paul knew what was behind the curtain, right? So people were following certain leaders. Some were following Paul, some were following Apollos, some were following Peter. But Paul knew that what they all wanted was for people to follow Jesus. So Paul knew that spiritual leaders are simply servants of God’s people and it’s hard enough to do that job without being ranked or excluded. And it’s a lot less glamorous when the curtain’s pulled back. And Paul said as much. He said, I sometimes think God has put us apostles on display like prisoners of war at a victorer’s parade. We’re condemned to die, we’ve become a spectacle to the entire world, to people and angels alike. Our dedication to Christ makes us look like fools. But you claim to be so wise. We are weak, but you are so powerful. You are honored but we are ridiculed. Even now, we go hungry and thirsty. We don’t have enough clothes to keep warm. We’re often beaten and have no home. We work wearily with our own hands to earn our living. We bless those who curse us. We are patient with those who abuse us. We appeal gently when evil things are said about us. We’re treated like the world’s garbage. Like everybody’s trash, right up till now. So Paul’s trying to pull back the curtain and say, hey, this isn’t so easy, and you following one of us is not what you’re supposed to be doing. You’re supposed to be following Jesus. So since Paul pulled the curtain back, we should leave it pulled back for ourselves as we consider the leaders that we follow. And we should realize what a difficult calling it is for our pastors and priests to carry this burden of caring for our souls. So rather than putting them on a pedestal we should pray for them. Rather than ranking them as our favorites, we should honor them. Rather than expecting them to be perfect and super human people with all the right answers, I mean, we should understand that they don’t have anything that we don’t possess also. And that is the Holy Spirit and permission to come into God’s presence as sons and daughters. So our leaders are a gift, but they’re human. And they can lead us to God but they can’t be in a relationship with God on our behalf. So let’s remember this. Let’s remember our leaders today as we go through the day. And see them as the gift that they are.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You. We thank You for all of those who have answered the call to step down into servanthood, to serve Your people on this earth, be Your hands and feet in communities all around the world. It is a difficult task that often goes unnoticed and so we’re noticing now. We ask, God, for strength, discernment, wisdom, grace and mercy in the lives of those who lead Your people. Come Holy Spirit, we pray, with a fresh wind of purpose and vision, new strength and wisdom to lead. We ask this in Jesus name. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hi DAB family. This is Marla from Albuquerque, a.k.a. Forgiven by the Savior. And this time I actually do have an urgent prayer request. For the past, I don’t know, few weeks I have been plagued with urges to harm myself, cut myself. I started cutting myself when I was in high school when I was 16 years old and this went on pretty much throughout my whole life. And I didn’t stop. I was living in New York City and I cut myself. I wasn’t trying to kill myself but I cut myself so bad that I was rushed to the emergency room because I cut a little too deep then they in turn sent me to a psychiatric hospital for a few days and I made sure that they kept my mom in the loop. And it was after this that she decided that moving back to New Mexico was my only option so that she could be near me. And it’s kind of funny because when she moved me into my new apartment she basically told me I could have no flatware. So she bought me all plastic cups and plastic…plastic everything basically. And I haven’t had for, I don’t know, maybe 10 years I haven’t had the urge to cut but over the past few weeks it’s been getting more and more. It started off like just once in a while I think about it but lately, like maybe the past week, I’ve been thinking about it more and more. I haven’t done it but would you please pray for me that, you know, that these thoughts stop plaguing me basically. I would really appreciate it. I love you all and God bless you.

Hi. My name is Sue and I am a first time caller. I have been listening to the Daily Audio Bible since the start of this year, I think, and every day I listen to it. And I just want to ask for prayer for my son. He’s in severe pain from sciatica and __ type I. And his…I don’t know what to do anymore. God is my only hope and please I need somebody to pray for him. Thank you so very much. His name is Charles and I’m his mother. Thank you.

Hi this is Renée from Florida. This is my first time calling. I’ve been listening since January of 2017 and the first year I just listened and wanted to get to the Bible, which I did and I’m so grateful for that. And now starting this year I started listening all the way to the end and realized, hey, there’s a bunch of good stuff at the end. And, so, I’ve enjoyed listening to peoples call ins and hearing their struggles but knowing that you’re not alone struggling but it’s even more comforting is to hear the response of the community to people’s requests. And, so, I’m very grateful for that. I’m calling today for that same reason. I feel like I’m stuck in a hard place. My mother who’s widowed for four years lost the love of her life. And she doesn’t live with us but visits frequently and has a strong personality. It’s not the easiest to get along with. And the struggle is with trying to respect and submit to my husband’s wishes while also at the same time honoring my mother. So, if you could just help me pray for that, asking for guidance, and being able to say the right words, and to convey the right message when I’m talking to either one, that it comes through with love and respect. So, if you could just help me with that I would greatly appreciate it. So thankful for this community and God bless you all.

Hi dear DAB family. This is Sonja calling from Tampa. I can’t believe Ezekiel is six years old. How time flies. I remember all the challenges that Brian and Jill faced but I thank God that we came together as a family and prayed them through. I may not call often but my prayers of fervent and I continue to pray for Justin and so many of our DAB families who face loss, brokenness, cancer and other medical issues. I pray for Scott’s son and his entire family. I can’t even fathom what kind of pain they’re facing. So, I cry out to God every day for mercy and complete healing. I command the __ to disappear and for his body to be aligned with the word of God, that by His stripes his is healed and made whole in the name of Jesus. I call upon the angels of God to wage war against every attack of our DAB family and to encamp all around them. I command our bodies to be aligned with the word of God that by His stripes we are healed and made whole again and that brokenness be turned to joy and shalom peace be restored. I command the angels of God to watch over Brian, Jill, China, Ezekiel and over every other person that contributes to this ministry, to be blessed beyond measure. Thank you Brian and Jill and China for all your unspoken sacrifices. May God open the windows of heaven and pour out his blessing upon you and your family.

Ezra 5:1-6:22 , 1 Corinthians 3:5-23 , Psalms 29:1-11 , Proverbs 20:26-27

Today is the 7th day of…August. (Brian laughs.) I had like a brain meltdown. Like, where am I? What am I doing here? I shouldn’t be turning the mic on without a sip of coffee. So I’m gonna do that real quick. Okay. August 7th is the day and this is the Daily Audio Bible and I am Brian and it’s wonderful to be here with you as we take the next step forward through the adventure of the Bible this year. And this week we’re reading from the English Standard Version. And today we’ll pick up where we left off. Ezra 4:24-6:22.

Commentary:

Okay. So in our reading from Ezra today, we watched the enemies of Israel disrupting and sabotaging the Israelites work to rebuild God’s temple in Jerusalem. And despite the intimidation, the people continued to build. They knew that they were obeying God. And there are times that we will certainly experience similar kinds of voices, right, that cause some disruption or intimidation while we’re trying to do what God’s instructed us to do. And other people may try to delay or interfere with those efforts.  It may not be an easy process, but as we’re watching play out in Ezra and as we’ll continue to watch play out in this story as we go into Nehemiah, well we’re going to have to be steadfast, absolutely steadfast, when we know that we are obeying God.

And then when we get to 1 Corinthians, Paul is talking about an issue that’s still with us.  People were segregating themselves into different camps,  basically based on whose teaching they were following.  So for Paul, it’s like their getting their identity, their spiritual identity, based on whose team they’re on. Who brought the gospel or who they like their preaching the best or whatever rather than growing in intimacy with Jesus himself. So Paul’s like, you say I’m a follower of Paul and then another says, I follow Apollos and aren’t you (acting like) people of the world? Who’s Paul? Who’s Apollos? We’re just God’s servants through whom you believe the good news. Each of us did the work God gave us. So Paul’s saying, if you’re gonna follow us than you’ve kind of missed the point. We brought this message to you so that you could enter into a personal relationship with God. And we’re all in this together. And no one’s more important. Or as Paul said, don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God? And that the Spirit of God lives in you? So you don’t need to boast about following a specific leader. Everything belongs to you, whether it’s Paul, whether it’s Apollos, whether it’s Cephas or the world, life and death or the present or the future. Everything belongs to you. You belong to Christ. Christ belongs to God. If we could keep that little hierarchy clear in our minds. Christ belongs to God. I belong to Christ. Everything belongs to me because of that. We would keep ourselves much more oriented than we usually do. Paul is just showing us where our actual true identity comes from. And his conclusion is, because of this, because Christ belongs to God and you belong to Christ and everything belongs to you, than what kind of identity are you trying to craft for yourself when it’s all already yours? In terms of a spiritual identity, that is a pretty big deal. And it’s something that we should be considering and meditating on today.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, we come into Your presence, inviting You into that. Holy Spirit, show us the places that we’re looking for an identity that can’t be given or bestowed in any other way. And that has already been bestowed upon us. And we’re just looking elsewhere for some other kind of identity. Show us the places that we’re seeking identity outside of You because this will only lead us on a path that we don’t want to go down. Come Holy Spirit we pray. In Jesus name we ask. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hello my DAB family this is Mark Street from Sydney Australia. Today is Sunday the 5th of July I just been through listening to yesterday, the 4th podcast and I heard a first-time collar, Asia, I think from Chicago. Asia, look, I’m going to pray for you because, Asia, I understand what’s happening with your dad. He’s a good man, I’m sure, but unfortunately his eyes are closed to the, you know, the verbal abuse and that touches my heart. And God put it on my heart to call you because I was in that situation. I would lose my temper and be abusive but I never saw it as a problem at the time. Asia, so, I’m sure your dad is in probably the same situation. He’s a good man but just does not __ what the anger and verbal abuse, how it affects people. And I’m going to pray that God opens his eyes as he opened my eyes too even if it’s only once or twice a year. I know that all of you are on eggshells wondering if he’s going to be at that point where he’s gonna explode again. And God did miraculous things. He put me with a boss who did the same thing to me. And then he opened my eyes. That’s my behavior to my family. I’ll pray Asia. I certainly understand where you’re coming from. Heavenly Father, we come to You and Asia comes to You. What a powerful community, lifting up Asia’s dad so that you will open his eyes because He’s a good man. You made him Lord and You love him as well. Open his eyes to his __ Lord. Open his eyes because the words coming from his mouth can do so much damage even though he does not see it yet Lord. Lord, I ask you to bless Asia and all her family as well that you give them your…

Hi everyone, this is Mel, MEL, from Central Florida. And I just wanted to call in to let you all know that I am here praying for you. I pray along with you every day and I continue to pray into the evening, at night before bed, when I wake up, and even just something, maybe, I feel called to pray in the middle of the day when, you know, I think of one of you. So, I wanted to let you all know I’m praying for you. I’m praying for all those who maybe are too nervous to call in. I’m praying for all those who maybe are just to, you know, have a private prayer or a personal thing that they are not ready to share. I’m praying for all of you. And I’m praying for all of you who call in and maybe don’t hear your name specifically mentioned in prayer. Because there are many of us that we are praying. And, so, I just kind of wanted to call in and let you know that you are being paid for. So, yeah, I went to church today and, hours ago, I just have this one song stuck in my head. So, I felt like I wanted to share it with you guys today. It’s Canticle of the Son and here it goes. [singing] The heavens are telling the glory of God and all creation is shouting for joy. Come dance in the forest come play in the fields and sing, sing to the glory of the Lord [singing ends]. So yeah, Hope you all have a blessed day. And, I love you and I’ll try to call back sooner this time. Okay. Bye.

Not Shaken in America. Thank you for calling in. I just wanted to really encourage you. God’s looking out for you and I pray that your name…I know that your name is there for a reason and that God’s given you a testimony about not being shaken before. And, so, He will do it again for you. And…I just pray that you’ll hold on and have faith in who Jesus is and what God’s done for you in the past. And I pray that God’s love touches Brian, for, not only his faith, not for just for your faith, and for the daughters as well. I pray that your family becomes closer together and you feel the freedom that there is knowing who Jesus is and the peace that comes along with that as well. And you just continue doing what you’re doing and holding on. Keep believing that there is a time when this all will come to an end. In Jesus’ name. We thank you guys. Have an amazing day. Bye.

Hi everyone. It’s Margo from Australia again. I’m just coming back because I felt like I hung up on my last fall and all I did was kind of give advice to Sally about __ depression and whatnot and talk about how counseling is great. But __ is that I just wanted to say, really more importantly is being close to Jesus. And I speak from experience. The thing that has helped me most with suffering with depression is being close my beautiful Jesus. And the more I love him the more joy I feel in my life, the more release I feel from this horrible illness. And, Sally, I would just love to pray for you. Lord God, I come to You today and I ask that You would set Sally free from this horrible disease. Father, there are so many suffering and so many feeling just sad and not even knowing why and going to doctors and counseling and trying to find answers. Lord God, I just ask for Your freedom. Would You let her out of this prison Lord God? Would You come and heal her supernaturally Father? Would You infuse her with Your joy Lord Jesus so that she would have a smile on her face so she wouldn’t feel like she has to go to bed early just to end her day? Lord God, let her wake of each morning and know that she walks through the day with her Savior and her Savior loves her and her Savior is giving her joy. I pray that if anyone else is also suffering from depression and anxiety, Lord God, I ask that You would set people free. When people need is Your freedom. Lord, show people what they can do to help themselves Lord God and how to have healthy habits. But also to rely fully on You. And I ask that You would work mightily in people’s lives and bring them close to You. In Jesus name. Amen.

Ezra 3:1-4:24 , 1 Corinthians 2:6-3:4 , Psalms 28:1-9 , Proverbs 20:24-25

Today is the 6th day of August. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I’m Brian. It’s great to be here with you today. I keep thinking it’s July still, even though we have almost come a week into this new month. I guess I just need to catch up with myself. I’m sure I’m not alone. It is the 6th day of August. And we’re reading from the English Standard Version this week. Ezra 3:1-4:23 today.

Commentary:

Okay. So in1 Corinthians, Paul has been discussing the nonsense of the gospel starting yesterday. And he’s basically saying that God planned to redeem the world and that redemption, that

plan was hidden in ancient but it was revealed in Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit. But only for those with eyes to see and ears to hear. Okay, so we can accept that because we know that that’s Christian doctrine. That’s what we believe. But if you just consider what I just said, like for your own human understanding of the world, if you have no context for your faith at all and you hear this, well then you see the rub. It makes no rational sense if you don’t believe that there is more to our existence and the physical senses that we have to interpret it. But once you’ve felt the truth of the gospel flooding into your soul, then you can’t see the world any other way. So it’s difficult to describe to a person who doesn’t see the world through spiritual eyes. And Paul explained it like this. The  rulers of this world have not understood it. If they had, they would not have crucified the Lord. So how is it that we reconcile the disconnect between our own reason and the awareness that a spiritual reality exists that is more tangible than anything else in the world? How do we reconcile that? That’s what Paul was talking about today. He said, no one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit. And no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own spirit. And we have received God’s spirit, not the world’s spirit. So we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us. People who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s spirit. It all sounds like foolishness to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means. So in other words, all of our faculties, all of our human senses and our mind and our reason alone will not be able to reason the ways of God. God’s ways are higher than our ways. We will not be able to figure it out. So therefore, we’ll need something more than our own reason. Something beyond our own minds. And for Paul, there was only one way this would reconcile. Which brings us to one of the most quoted Scriptures in all of the Bible. 1 Corinthians 2:16. We understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ. And because of that, we can look into the Spirit. We can look through the eyes of faith at what we cannot see and live within this reality.

Prayer:

Father, we want to live into this reality today. And we realize that this is absolutely true. We go in search for You, trying to use our own human ingenuity and wisdom, but there’s a ceiling. We cannot go beyond it. We cannot know Your ways without You. We cannot have an understanding of the spirit without Your Holy Spirit.  And so we go through our lives falsely tethered to an awareness that can be perceived by our physical senses.  But we are instructed over and over and over and over and over and over in the scriptures than there is way more to the story than that.  So we invite Your Holy Spirit to well up within us, to surround us, to guide us, to counsel us, to lead us into all truth, to lift our eyes to the horizon and allow us to see Your kingdom all around us, advancing forward.  And we are a part of that story. Come Holy Spirit we pray. In Jesus name we ask. Amen.

Good morning Daily Audio Bible. This is John from Illinois. I’m a first-time collar. I’ve been with the DAB, my wife and I, for three years. I’m very grateful that a friend, Laura, invited us to this place. I’m so grateful for this family, for Brian and Jill, for what it has been, life-changing for us. I think what struck me most was not only the program and God’s word opening up for these callers, this DAB family calling in, caring and loving people they don’t know. I was listening this morning and my heart goes out to an Allen from Sydney. And the Lord told me very plainly, He says don’t doubt your faith, don’t question My faithfulness when it doesn’t turn out the way we want it to. And a lot of times in this life we have an idea or thought in our mind that we think that God wants us to do and when it doesn’t pan out then we question our own hope, our own faith, our own walk with God and that’s not at all how it is. The word says that he ever lives to make intercessions for us. And Psalm 27 clearly says wait on the Lord, be of good courage for he strengthens your heart. Wait, __. God has got a great and marvelous plan. Wait and be still. I’m just to get grateful for this family, grateful to be a part of this. God bless Brian and Jill. God bless this whole family.

Hi Daily Audio Bible. This is Lydia and Maryland. I’ve been listening for seven years and never called into the prayer line but my family has been hit with a very difficult situation. Our 17-year-old has tried to commit suicide three times and the doctors recommended a particular therapy that’s very expensive but we figure that God will provide. She doesn’t seem to be responding to the therapy very well but we are in the first few weeks of it. So, I am calling just to ask for, first and foremost prayers for her and over her life and that she hears God’s voice and knows that God loves her and has many works for her to do. I am also asking for prayer for our finances as we know we are willing to go into debt for this because we are believing that God is going to provide. But it’s $1000 per month, which is hard. So, again, please lift up our daughter Faith. And we are pastors, so, even pastors sometimes need prayer. And unfortunately, we can’t always go to our churches because this is our daughter’s story. But I love you and I thank God that I am able to reach out to a worldwide community. That is awesome…and…

Hello Daily Audio Bible family. This is Scott Santee and I am calling from sunny Havana Cuba. I hope you are all are doing well. I have called before and haven’t really told much…just like a few times. I’ve been listening for…well…since Ezekiel was born and I love it. I know everybody’s voices before they give their needs and it’s just great. I was calling to let you know that I have been here for the last three weeks installing water filters. I’m actually a full-time missionary. But it’s been so remarkable, I just wanted to share a praise report about it. We, not only are able to meet their number one physical need of clean water, but also use that as a way to meet their number one spiritual need of a relationship with Jesus Christ. And this has been amazing. We’ve seen a response rate of just over 50% of the people that we share with our coming to Christ. And I’ve never seen anything like it anywhere in the world. And this last week was pretty intense. We saw a lot of opposition and people could feel, yeah know, the spiritual forces of evil working against them. And, anyhow, the Lord still prevailed and it was great and I just thought you’d want to rejoice with that. You know, you know, hundreds of people now have clean water. They don’t have to boil their water or put Clorox in it or anything. And now, the house churches and the anchor churches are following up with all the people. The community is abuzz. They’re so happy, they’re so excited, they’re talking about Jesus. It’s just great. If you’d like to learn more you can reach me at scott@filterofhope.org

Hi. This is James Pitrineli and a day behind right now. It’s August 4th. I’m listening to the August 3rd Podcast. And funny that…Asia, in Chicago. So, we have two Asia’s now. That’s really cool, actually. I heard your call and my dad growing up is not a believer but he was verbally abusive for years on end. And I don’t know how old you are right now, if sounds like you’re an adult, or at least nearly so. That’s just really hard, first of all and think there’s a lot of people in our community who can identify. But it takes a lot of courage to admit that what’s happening is abuse and that it’s not your fault. You don’t deserve it. Even though you’re imperfect, we’re all imperfect and the Lord doesn’t abuse us. He doesn’t hurl accusations at us. That’s the enemy. In my father’s case, he had mental health issues an entire life through and the enemy will use those. And it sounds like you with your father does love the Lord, he’s got some spiritual things definitely going on. He may have some mental health things going on. But, they’re not your fault, none of them. You’re not responsible for him. Love you. Keep hanging on.

Ezra 1:1-2:70 , 1 Corinthians 1:18-2:5 , Psalms 27:7-14 , Proverbs 20:22-23

Today is the 5th day of August. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian. It is great to be here with you as we cross the threshold, step into a brand-new, shiny, sparkly week together and take the next step forward as we move through the Scriptures. We began Paul’s letter, first letter, to the Corinthians yesterday. We also concluded 2 Chronicles yesterday. Which brings us today to the…to the threshold of the book of Ezra. And we’ll be picking up the story where second Chronicles leaves off, with the children of Israel in exile in Babylon, having been carried off for their rebelliousness to God.

Introduction to the book of Ezra:

The book of Ezra covers a period of about 80 years and three different kings in Babylon: Cyrus the great, Darius, and Artaxerxes all who provide favor and cover for the Israelites who were returning to their homeland. Cyrus the great begins the process, literally wanting to rebuild the Temple in Jerusalem for the worship of God. And about 42,000 Israelites who had been in exile in Babylon, crying and weeping for the day that God would restore them finally get to make the trip back under the leadership of Zerubbabel to rebuild Jerusalem. And, of course, when they get there they face all kinds of opposition both through intimidation of those who are living in the area, and political maneuvers and politics, but they stick to the task. And it’s a great reference point for us in our own lives as we stick to what we know God is calling us to do in life, regardless of the outside opposition we may face. So, we can embrace the book of Ezra as a metaphor for our own lives. And if we will, we’ll find ourselves in these pages, without a doubt. And, so, we begin. Ezra chapter 1 verse 1 through 2 verse 70. And we will be reading from the English Standard Version this week.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word. We thank You for the progress that we’re making through Your word. We thank You for the progress that we’re making in our lives because of Your word. We thank You for the progress of what You are doing inside of us. And as we step into this new week, Father, we invite You in every aspect of our lives. Holy Spirit, come. Lead us forward into all truth we pray. In Jesus’ name we ask. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Good morning. This is Dennis from __ California. First of all, I just want to…I want to thank Brian. I just listened to today’s broadcast, on August 2nd, and the message was just so spot on for me and my family and my wife. We’re under attack with things that are, you know, just verbal at this point, or just unknown, the outcome is unknown. And allowing fear and things to creep into our lives, and worries, and anxieties. And just to listen to your message was so perfect for me and for her. So, we just ask for prayer that the reports we’re going to receive are going to be good ones, that God’s report is the best, that no matter what comes our way, that we can walk through it and prepare for it, and that we are able to get to the places that we need to be. So, I just asked for that. I just want to thank God in everything, no matter what’s going on, in the good and the bad and give him praise. And I’m going to thank Him at a time for a good word. So, if my DAB family, could you just please pray for my wife, Gina, and myself. And we’d really appreciate that. Love you guys. Thank you.

Hello DAB family this is __ from Southern California. I am calling in for several reasons. First and foremost I’ve got to thank Brian and Jill and the family for everything you do to connect us and invite us to the global campfire. I was traveling for three weeks out of country, in Spanish speaking country and through the course of many different things wasn’t able to necessarily listen in every single day as has been my custom and I really miss hearing your voices. Miguel from Santa Rosa, hey everybody what’s up? And Candice from Oregon, and His little Sharif, I haven’t heard from you. And Blind Tony and oh my goodness, Victoria Soldier, there’s so many, I could name all of you because I love you so much and I missed you. I really needed to bring you with me. So, thank you for this global campfire Brian. I’m sure there’s many moving pieces in the background that we don’t even know about so we can enjoy this. So, two thoughts. For those of you that haven’t yet contributed, perhaps you can think about that and how this affects our day we don’t have it, how it affects our day. And maybe go online and maybe make a little donation. I don’t know your situation but, my goodness, there’s so much sacrifice that goes into this incredible ministry. Perhaps that something you could consider today. The other thing I wanted to share is again, do the course of many events, I became conversational in Spanish in a very short time. And I was so sad coming back thinking, well, who am I gonna have conversations with? And I mean, I know some Spanish people but it’s not like I’m gonna say hey, can you talk to me for an hour every day. You know, it was just like the sad feeling that I was going to lose it. And then I found DAB in Espanol…on the app. So, for those of you, again, that speak different languages. And maybe English is not your first language or your native tongue…

Hi DABbers, this is Missy from the mid-west. Hey, I’m just calling with a praise report. I think it wasn’t that long ago that we read in Proverbs 19:17, that he who regardith the poor or lendith to the poor the Lord shall repay him. And I just have an awesome report on that. That situation just happened. We found ourselves needing to give more than we probably felt we could to someone in our family who would be defined as poor. But as I just wrote the check out, I just…I just did it and felt good about it. And I just didn’t worry about it. And…this was last week…and today, in the mail, I received something that is a seven of times value what I gave to that family member in an unexpected source. It’s not why we give and is not why I gave but it’s just struck me that God is so good and I just wanted to share that. So, give, because the Lord overflows giving back in whatever way He chooses.

Hello this is Judith from Reading in the United Kingdom. It’s the 3rd of August and I’m calling in response to Gavin from Alabama who called saying that his wife left about a year ago and he needs wisdom as to how to deal with it. And I’m going to be praying for you and I know that the Lord can give wisdom because he’s a promised that if we ask him believing that He will give wisdom that He will give that wisdom. So, I’ll be asking the Lord for wisdom for you. And I also thought of this verse. So, I will read it for this passage I will read it to you. It’s from 2 Corinthians 5 starting at verse 16. Therefore from now on we regard no one according to the flesh even though we have known Christ according to the flesh. Yet now we know him thus no longer. Therefore if anyone is in Christ he is a new creation. All things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. Now all things are of God who has reconciled himself for us to himself through Jesus Christ and has given us the ministry of reconciliation that is that God was in Christ reconciling the world himself. Not __ to him and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. So, I’ll be praying for the ministry of reconciliation to you __ and a word of reconciliation that God is able to do that. Thank you for sharing your request and God bless you. Bye.

2 Chronicles 35:1-36:23, 1 Corinthians 1:1-17 , Psalms 27:1-6, Proverbs 20:20-21

Today is the 4th day of August. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I’m Brian. It is great to be here with you today as we continue our journey forward. And our journey will bring us to a new book of the Bible, a new letter in the Bible when we get to the New Testament. But first we’re reading from the New English Translation this week. 2 Chronicles 35:1-36:23.

Introduction to the book of 1 Corinthians:

Okay. So we finished the book of Romans yesterday, Paul’s letter to the Romans, which brings us to the Apostle Paul’s first epistle to the church at Corinth. And epistle means letter, of course. So during Paul’s life, Corinth was a cosmopolitan city that was kind of a destination location in the Roman Empire. And it was also a distribution hub for trade and commerce. I mean, Corinth was the fourth largest city in the entire Roman Empire so it was an influential city. And being trendy, it was a melting pot of spiritual ideas and idolatry and sexual experimentation and all that goes with a large secular society. First Corinthians was written as Paul’s response to some of the things he’d been hearing that were happening in the church there. And his main point is unity. And it’s no less poignant now than it was then. Some of the most quoted portions of the New Testament are found in 1 Corinthians. Things like seeing through a glass darkly or when I was a child, I spoke as a child and, of course, 1 Corinthians 13 is better known as the love chapter, which is a beautiful, beautiful work on what love is and what love does. And so we begin. 1 Corinthians 1:1-17.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word and we pray along with the Psalmist today. You are our light. You are our salvation. Why should we be afraid? You are our fortress, protecting us from danger. Why should we tremble? We invite You, Holy Spirit, into that. Into all of our fears and anxieties. All the things that bring us dread. We invite You into that, Lord. And along with the Psalmist we ask one thing. That we might live in Your house all the days of our lives, delighting in Your perfection. And we place all of our focus here. All of those things that bring us dread diminish into their proper perspective. So come Holy Spirit. Give us eyes to see and ears to hear. We ask in Jesus name. Amen

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hi DAB family. This is Will in beautiful Bozeman Montana. And it has been a long time since I’ve called in. Brian, thank you so much for your faithfulness for this ministry. And I’ve been listening in and it is August the 1st. And I’ve been listening. I’m a few days behind. And Asia I heard your message and I want to thank you for the fresh reminder. My life is upside down and I feel like I am carrying all the burden on my own and I am not making good financial choices. We are just in a rut financially. My marriage is just at the basement of nothing. Spiritually, I’m struggling and it’s just tough. And, so, I need to get out of all these ruts, out of all these holes. I find myself more irritated with the believers who I think are smug. And that’s not right. I need to be patient. I need to be loving and kind. And, so, DAB, I appeal to you for prayers and I am praying for you as well. Thank you again for this ministry. I love you all. God bless you. Jesus is…He’s Lord. Jesus is Lord. Jesus is Lord and I’m convinced of that. Thank you so much. Bye.

Hi Daily Audio Bible family. This is my first time calling and it’s…it’s just crazy. I’ve been listening to this since I was 16 and I’m 22 now. My name is Asia and I live in Chicago. I am calling because I’m having kind of a rough time right now. I have a really difficult relationship with my dad. And he loves God, he loves the Lord, but he struggles with being verbally abusive to me and my mom. And, so, it’s just been really tough lately. It’s gotten really bad again and it’s…yeah…it’s been…I’ve just been struggling with feeling worthless and like really alone in that. So, yeah, if I could just get some prayers, it would be great. I’m praying for you guys and I love you all and I’m thankful for a God that we have that loves us each so much. Thanks again. This is Asia from Chicago.

Hi Daily Audio Bible community. It’s is my first time calling in. I’ve been listening for many years and I’m praying for my boyfriend. My name is Johna with a J. I was named after John the Baptist, Johna. I’m calling for my boyfriend Billy Sutter. He has a lump in his throat. He went through some severe stress and he quit smoking years ago and he’s gone into the doctors. They’re doing a CT scan and other scans on his neck to make sure he doesn’t have cancer. We just believing in the name of Jesus that he is…he is clear of any cancer and he will live a long life for his daughter and for me and my kids. And just asking if you guys would all agree with me in prayer that, from the tips of his toes to the top of his head, that God is healing him. And also pray for myself, I’m just going through a lot of life changes and I want to make sure I stay close to the cross and the enemy doesn’t get a hold of me, which I won’t let him. But, anyway, it’s great to finally put a voice out there to you guys. I’ll try to call every now and again and am praying for all of you. I love you guys. Bye.

Hello everyone this is Melody from Canada. I want to say thank you for praying for me and baby Lee and for us. We’re doing really well. We are in the final stretch, 29 weeks, only a few months left and my mind it was a lot calmer than I was before. So, thank you for that. I’ve also been really impressed. His word has been coming to me a lot as we’ve been reading the Kings in the Old Testament. And the word is to stay humble and finish well. It’s kind of crazy reading about Solomon and Josiah and Jehoshaphat and Hezekiah and how they had so many amazing victories with God and they followed Him so faithfully and then at the end of the lives they cracked because of their pride. And, it really saddens me, it’s really heartbreaking because I want to leave a legacy in my life. I want to finish well. I know a couple of people, a couple of friends who are in their 80s __ . They finished really well and they left beautiful legacies and that is what I want. And, so, my prayer for all of us is to stay faithful to the end and persevere and stay humble. And yeah, I’m gonna leave you that with God’s grace. Love you guys. Bye.

2 Chronicles 33:14-34:33, Romans 16:8-27 , Psalms 26:1-12, Proverbs 20:19

Today is the 3rd day of August. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I’m Brian and it is a pleasure to be here with you today as we get fully moved into this brand-new month and through this week together. And this week we’re reading from the New English Translation. So, we’ll; pick up where we left off yesterday. 2 Chronicles chapter 33 verse 14 through 34 verse 33.

Prayer:

Father, we thank you for your word. We thank you for the opportunity to read of King Josiah today in 2 Chronicles and his response to discovering how far the people had drifted away from you. His response was to completely humble himself before you, and then get about the work of cleaning up. And Holy Spirit, come into that. We realize that we also must take inventory of our own lives and realize the places that we’ve drifted away from our story with you and we realize that serious change that that begins by recognizing what’s happening and being able to name it and call it out loud, what’s happening. And then repentance, changing our minds, which then changes our ways. And, so, we invite your Holy Spirit into that as we contemplate it today. Come Jesus we pray in your precious name. Amen.

Announcements:

dailyaudiobible.com is the website, its home base, it’s where you find out what’s going on around here.

And we have another app update that has been released. So, be sure to update. This particular update fixes a pretty big bug in the android world. If you have a more modern android phone you have the Daily Audio Bible app, but it kind of stops on you, that is due to a certain way that the platform manages the battery resources. And it’s a bit different in newer phones. That issue has been addressed. So, be sure to update. This new version is 1.0.12. And for android and iOS devices, we’ve changed the user interface a little bit so that you don’t have to kind of drill into a month to see that month. When you update, you’ll be able to scroll back all the way to the beginning of the year. Know, you can, you can filter however you like, and you’ll see that kind of where you used to see the month. And then to the right of that…it’s hard to…it’s hard to do this just with the words and not be able to show you…to the right of that filtering area is three little dots and that’s the settings for how you want to filter. So now you’ll be able to see, you know, you’ll be able to filter out just the episodes that you’ve favorited this year or just the episodes that you’ve taken notes and you have some notes in, just some of those kind of controls have been implemented into the interface. So, we continue to make progress. This is being worked on just about every single day. And we knew when we came out with 1.0 that there was going to be additional stability and work to do and we have been working on it all year. But that’s how…that’s how it works when you build something new and launch it. So, be sure to update your Daily Audio Bible app to be up-to-date with the latest fixes and features. And you can download that now your app store.

If you want to partner with the Daily Audio Bible, you can do that dailyaudiobiible.com. There is a link on the homepage. And as always if you have a prayer request or comment there are several numbers that you can use depending on where you are in the world. If you’re in the Americas, 877- 942-4253 is the number to call. If you are in the UK or Europe 44-20-3608-8078 is the number to dial and if you are in Australia or the Lands down under 61-3-8820-5459 is the number to call.

And that’s it for today. I’m Brian I love you and I’ll be waiting for you here tomorrow.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hi neighbors. It’s Lisa the Encourager. I just wanted to call in tonight and pray for everyone. Most especially those that are going through difficult battles right now, whether that’s depression or anxiety or you have somebody in your family that’s close to you that has addiction problems. I know that sometimes when you’re not the one, but you’re always carrying the burden of others. That can be a very difficult and heavy load to carry. So, I am reaching out to you now and letting you know that I’m praying for you. And I just want you to know that God loves you and He cares about you. And just, when you do your prayers, or when I do my prayers, lately if I’m going through something like that, I’ve been speaking it out loud to God and just really asking for him to work on my behalf out loud. And, so, I feel like he responded to me in a special way when I really made a point to speak it out loud, for me anyways. So, anyways I just want to let you know that I’m praying for you. So, let’s pray. Dear Lord, I pray for each one of the individuals that are going through difficult battles in their families or with their loved ones, whether that’s an alcohol problem, an abuse problem, an addiction problem, whether it’s a teenager, a spouse, a loved one. I just pray for the one that’s holding it altogether, that’s just trying to keep their head above water God, that You would just reach out from heaven and give them the blessings that they need in their lives right now. I pray God that You will anoint them with your love…

Brian and Jill and the entire DAB family, SarahJane, everyone behind the scenes, thank you, thank you, thank you. I love you DAB family. 13 years going strong. You guys touch me deeply. I don’t know where I would be without you in my life just as I don’t know where I would be without God in my life. God sits on the throne and that no matter what we are going through, He sits on the throne. Bring your cares, bring your problems to Him and remember you have this community, you have DAB friends on Facebook, and there are people all over the world praying. I love you. Cheers. Asia and Munich.

Hey DABbers. This is Gavin __ both in Alabama. First off, Pelham, I just heard your praise report. I’d like flipped out of my chair with joy when I heard that man. Congratulations and praise be the Lord to your wife coming home to you. DABbers, if I could ask for prayer or my marriage still. It’s been almost a year now since my wife left and things rock back and forth. I will think conversation is getting better and then it just gets completely shut down again. If I could just ask you all to pray for open doors and just wisdom and guidance on what we are supposed to do because right now I’m not really sure what to do. Thanks DABbers. Love you. Bye.
