Ezekiel 33-34

Ezekiel as Israel’s Watchman

33 The word of the Lord came to me: “Son of man, speak to your people and tell them, ‘Suppose I bring the sword against a land, and the people of that land select a man from among them, appointing him as their watchman. And suppose he sees the sword coming against the land and blows his ram’s horn(A) to warn the people. Then, if anyone hears the sound of the ram’s horn but ignores the warning,(B) and the sword comes and takes him away, his death will be his own fault.[a] Since he heard the sound of the ram’s horn but ignored the warning, his death is his own fault.[b] If he had taken warning, he would have saved his life. However, suppose the watchman sees the sword coming but doesn’t blow the ram’s horn, so that the people aren’t warned, and the sword comes and takes away their lives. Then they have been taken away because of their iniquity, but I will hold the watchman accountable for their blood.’

“As for you, son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel.(C) When you hear a word from my mouth, give them a warning from me. If I say to the wicked, ‘Wicked one, you will surely die,’(D) but you do not speak out to warn him about his way, that wicked person will die for his iniquity, yet I will hold you responsible for his blood. But if you warn a wicked person to turn from his way and he doesn’t turn from it, he will die for his iniquity, but you will have rescued yourself.

10 “Now as for you, son of man, say to the house of Israel, ‘You have said this: “Our transgressions and our sins are heavy on us, and we are wasting away because of them!(E) How then can we survive?”’ (F) 11 Tell them, ‘As I live—this is the declaration of the Lord God—I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that the wicked person should turn from his way and live.(G) Repent, repent of your evil ways! Why will you die, house of Israel?’

12 “Now, son of man, say to your people, ‘The righteousness of the righteous person will not save him on the day of his transgression; neither will the wickedness of the wicked person cause him to stumble on the day he turns from his wickedness. The righteous person won’t be able to survive by his righteousness on the day he sins. 13 When I tell the righteous person that he will surely live, but he trusts in his righteousness and acts unjustly, then none of his righteousness will be remembered, and he will die because of the injustice he has committed.(H)

14 “‘So when I tell the wicked person, “You will surely die,” but he repents of his sin and does what is just and right— 15 he returns collateral, makes restitution for what he has stolen, and walks in the statutes of life(I) without committing injustice—he will certainly live; he will not die. 16 None of the sins he committed will be held[c] against him. He has done what is just and right; he will certainly live.(J)

17 “‘But your people say, “The Lord’s way isn’t fair,”(K) even though it is their own way that isn’t fair. 18 When a righteous person turns from his righteousness and commits injustice, he will die for it. 19 But if a wicked person turns from his wickedness and does what is just and right, he will live because of it. 20 Yet you say, “The Lord’s way isn’t fair.” I will judge each of you according to his ways, house of Israel.’”

The News of Jerusalem’s Fall

21 In the twelfth year of our exile, in the tenth month, on the fifth day of the month, a fugitive from Jerusalem came to me and reported, “The city has been taken!” 22 Now the hand of the Lord had been on me the evening before the fugitive arrived, and he opened my mouth before the man came to me in the morning. So my mouth was opened and I was no longer mute.(L)

Israel’s Continued Rebellion

23 Then the word of the Lord came to me: 24 “Son of man, those who live in the[d] ruins in the land of Israel are saying, ‘Abraham was only one person,(M) yet he received possession of the land.(N) But we are many; surely the land has been given to us as a possession.’(O) 25 Therefore say to them, ‘This is what the Lord God says: You eat meat with blood in it,(P) you look to your idols, and you shed blood. Should you then receive possession of the land? 26 You have relied on your swords, you have committed detestable acts, and each of you has defiled his neighbor’s wife. Should you then receive possession of the land?’ (Q)

27 “Tell them this: ‘This is what the Lord God says: As surely as I live, those who are in the ruins will fall by the sword, those in the open field I have given to wild animals to be devoured, and those in the strongholds and caves will die by plague.(R) 28 I will make the land a desolate waste,(S) and its proud strength will come to an end.(T) The mountains of Israel(U) will become desolate, with no one passing through. 29 They will know that I am the Lord when I make the land a desolate waste because of all the detestable acts they have committed.’

30 “As for you, son of man, your people are talking about you near the city walls and in the doorways of their houses. One person speaks to another, each saying to his brother, ‘Come and hear what the message is that comes from the Lord!’ 31 So my people come to you in crowds,[e] sit in front of you, and hear your words, but they don’t obey them. Their mouths go on passionately, but their hearts pursue dishonest profit. 32 Yes, to them you are like a singer of passionate songs who has a beautiful voice and plays skillfully on an instrument. They hear your words, but they don’t obey them. 33 Yet when all this comes true(V)—and it definitely will—then they will know that a prophet has been among them.”

The Shepherds and God’s Flock

34 The word of the Lord came to me: “Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel. Prophesy, and say to them, ‘This is what the Lord God says to the shepherds: Woe to the shepherds of Israel, who have been feeding themselves!(W) Shouldn’t the shepherds feed their flock? You eat the fat, wear the wool, and butcher the fattened animals, but you do not tend the flock.(X) You have not strengthened the weak, healed the sick, bandaged the injured, brought back the strays, or sought the lost.(Y) Instead, you have ruled them with violence and cruelty. They were scattered for lack of a shepherd;(Z) they became food for all the wild animals(AA) when they were scattered. My flock went astray on all the mountains and every high hill.(AB) My flock was scattered over the whole face of the earth, and there was no one searching or seeking for them.

“‘Therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the Lord. As I live—this is the declaration of the Lord God—because my flock, lacking a shepherd, has become prey and food for every wild animal, and because my shepherds do not search for my flock, and because the shepherds feed themselves rather than my flock, therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the Lord!

10 “‘This is what the Lord God says: Look, I am against the shepherds.(AC) I will demand my flock from them[f] and prevent them from shepherding the flock. The shepherds will no longer feed themselves, for I will rescue my flock from their mouths so that they will not be food for them.

11 “‘For this is what the Lord God says: See, I myself will search for my flock and look for them. 12 As a shepherd looks for his sheep on the day he is among his scattered flock, so I will look for my flock. I will rescue them from all the places where they have been scattered(AD) on a day of clouds and total darkness. 13 I will bring them out from the peoples, gather them from the countries, and bring them to their own soil. I will shepherd them on the mountains of Israel, in the ravines, and in all the inhabited places of the land. 14 I will tend them in good pasture, and their grazing place will be on Israel’s lofty mountains. There they will lie down in a good grazing place; they will feed in rich pasture on the mountains of Israel. 15 I will tend my flock and let them lie down.(AE) This is the declaration of the Lord God. 16 I will seek the lost,(AF) bring back the strays, bandage the injured,(AG) and strengthen the weak, but I will destroy[g] the fat and the strong. I will shepherd them with justice.

17 “‘As for you, my flock, the Lord God says this: Look, I am going to judge between one sheep and another, between the rams and goats.(AH) 18 Isn’t it enough for you to feed on the good pasture? Must you also trample the rest of the pasture with your feet? Or isn’t it enough that you drink the clear water? Must you also muddy the rest with your feet? 19 Yet my flock has to feed on what your feet have trampled, and drink what your feet have muddied.

20 “‘Therefore, this is what the Lord God says to them: See, I myself will judge between the fat sheep and the lean sheep. 21 Since you have pushed with flank and shoulder and butted all the weak ones with your horns until you scattered them all over, 22 I will save my flock. They will no longer be prey, and I will judge between one sheep and another. 23 I will establish over them one shepherd, my servant David, and he will shepherd them. He will tend them himself and will be their shepherd.(AI) 24 I, the Lord, will be their God, and my servant David(AJ) will be a prince among them. I, the Lord, have spoken.

25 “‘I will make a covenant of peace(AK) with them and eliminate dangerous creatures(AL) from the land, so that they may live securely(AM) in the wilderness and sleep in the forest. 26 I will make them and the area around my hill(AN) a blessing: I will send down showers in their season;(AO) they will be showers of blessing. 27 The trees of the field will yield their fruit, and the land will yield its produce; my flock will be secure in their land. They will know that I am the Lord when I break the bars of their yoke and rescue them from the power of those who enslave them.(AP) 28 They will no longer be prey for the nations, and the wild creatures of the earth will not consume them. They will live securely, and no one will frighten them. 29 I will establish for them a place renowned for its agriculture,[h] and they will no longer be victims of famine in the land. They will no longer endure the insults of the nations.(AQ) 30 Then they will know that I, the Lord their God, am with them, and that they, the house of Israel, are my people.(AR) This is the declaration of the Lord God. 31 You are my flock, the human flock of my pasture, and I am your God. This is the declaration of the Lord God.’”(AS)

Hebrews 13

Final Exhortations

13 Let brotherly love(A) continue. Don’t neglect to show hospitality, for by doing this some have welcomed angels as guests without knowing it.(B) Remember those in prison, as though you were in prison with them, and the mistreated,[a] as though you yourselves were suffering bodily.[b] Marriage is to be honored by all and the marriage bed kept undefiled, because God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers.(C) Keep your life free from the love of money. Be satisfied with what you have, for he himself has said, I will never leave you or abandon you.[c](D) Therefore, we may boldly say,

The Lord is my helper;
I will not be afraid.
What can man do to me?[d](E)

Remember your leaders who have spoken God’s word to you. As you carefully observe the outcome of their lives, imitate their faith.(F) Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.(G) Don’t be led astray by various kinds of strange teachings; for it is good for the heart to be established by grace and not by food regulations, since those who observe them have not benefited.(H) 10 We have an altar from which those who worship at the tabernacle do not have a right to eat.(I) 11 For the bodies of those animals whose blood is brought into the most holy place by the high priest(J) as a sin offering are burned outside the camp.(K) 12 Therefore, Jesus also suffered outside the gate,(L) so that he might sanctify[e] the people by his own blood. 13 Let us, then, go to him outside the camp, bearing his disgrace.(M) 14 For we do not have an enduring city here; instead, we seek the one to come.(N) 15 Therefore, through him let us continually offer up to God a sacrifice of praise, that is, the fruit of lips that confess his name.(O) 16 Don’t neglect to do what is good and to share, for God is pleased with such sacrifices.(P) 17 Obey your leaders[f] and submit to them, since they keep watch(Q) over your souls as those who will give an account, so that they can do this with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you. 18 Pray for us, for we are convinced that we have a clear conscience, wanting to conduct ourselves honorably in everything.(R) 19 And I urge you all the more to pray[g] that I may be restored to you very soon.

Benediction and Farewell

20 Now may the God of peace, who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus—the great Shepherd of the sheep(S)—through the blood of the everlasting covenant,(T) 21 equip[h] you with everything good to do his will, working in us what is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever.[i](U) Amen.

22 Brothers and sisters, I urge you to receive this message of exhortation, for I have written to you briefly. 23 Be aware that our brother Timothy has been released. If he comes soon enough, he will be with me when I see you. 24 Greet all your leaders and all the saints. Those who are from Italy send you greetings. 25 Grace be with you all.(V)

Ezekiel 31:1-32:32, Hebrews 12:14-29, Psalm 113:1-114:8, Proverbs 27:18-20

Today is the 15th day of November, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I’m Brian. It’s great to be here with you today. I guess, hear we are in the middle, the middle point of the 11th month of the year, crossing through the center and continuing our journey forward. We are continuing our journey through the book of Ezekiel, so let's…let’s do what we do, let’s take the next step forward together. We’re reading from the Christian Standard Bible this week, Ezekiel chapters 31 and 32.

Commentary:

Okay, have you ever looked at us set of circumstances that you are navigated and, navigating and felt like I’m kind of on thin ice here or I’m kind of on shaky ground here. We say those euphemisms because we don’t feel stable in the situation that we’re in. Not everything is lining up, not everything feels secure. There seems to be some missing pieces. Things feel like they’re shaking. The writer of Hebrews talks about this today and he’s talking to people, Hebrew people, Jewish people who have, who have believed in Jesus and are following Jesus, but instead of things getting smoother and more glorious, things have started to shake up around them. They feel like they’re on thin ice. They don’t feel like they’re in a secure position. So, what’s happening is that many people are trying to kind of fade, fade into the woodwork of the culture. Just kind of fade back into Judaism and believe in Jesus but kind of keep that quiet or others are just rejecting, going back into more Orthodox Judaism. The writer of Hebrews is…is trying to warn these believers. These early believers that are really, that really are in a shaky situation, that are starting to…to be oppressed on all sides. They’re being warned not to fade. In fact, as with the rest of the letter of Hebrews where Jesus is brought in as a context of something to be expected that they had been expecting a Savior, the writer of Hebrews is also trying to say you should’ve also been expecting that things would get shaky. And so, I’m quoting from Hebrews here, “See to it that you do not reject the one who speaks” in this case this would be God, “for if they did not escape” and in this case they’re talking about their…their spiritual ancestors, “if they did not escape when they rejected Him who warned them on earth even less will we if we turn away from Him who warns us from heaven”. So, the writer of Hebrews here is encouraging steadfastness, endurance, sticking to what you started, holding fast and firm to your faith. And I continue to quote “His voice shook the earth at that time, but now He has promised yet once more, will I shake, not only the earth but also the heavens. This expression yet once more indicates the removal of what can be shaken, that is, created things. So, that what is not shaken, might remain. Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful.” Okay, we don’t like things shaking, we don’t want to be on thin ice. We don’t want to be on shaky ground. And yet, the writer of Hebrews is telling the people reading this letter then and us today that things are going to be shaky. So, is the point that we are constantly disrupted and never feel like we’re on firm ground? That is not the intention here, and what we’re being told is essentially this, everything that can shake is going to be shaken so that in the end, all that’s left is what cannot be shaken. So, if you’re in a situation in your life where you’re on thin ice or shaky ground and you don’t like it one single bit, you don’t like this shaking and you want it to stop. Fair enough. Who doesn’t want that. Even the Lord wants that, but He is willing to disrupt us and we may find ourselves in a time of shaking because there are things that need to be shaken loose and shaken off so that what remains is unshakable. So, that might be helpful to just kind of keep with us when we’re feeling like we’re in these seasons where things are very shaky. It’s in those times that we should maybe look at what is being shaken and is it unshakable or is it time that it be shaken loose and shaken free and shaken off. We may have a desire and even a prayer that this shaking stops when maybe if we look closer at what’s being shaken we can participate and realize I don’t need this. This thing that’s making me disrupted and uncomfortable, I don’t, this can be shaken off and I can take the next step forward toward unshakeability.

Prayer:

And so Father, we invite Your Holy Spirit into that because very often we find ourselves misinterpreting things we see as we see in how we see is through a glass darkly and we don’t have the full view and we don’t have a complete understanding of anything but You do and You are our Father and You love us as Your children. And so, if things are shaking, sometimes it can be just the disruption of life but sometimes You may be shaking us awake and shaking us free and all we’re asking is that You make us comfortable again when what we need is to be unshakable. And so, help us to discern, help us to become aware of Your activity in our lives. We ask in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Announcements:

dailyaudiobible.com that’s home base. That’s where you find out what’s going on around here and something big is going on around here right now. We have a brand-new resource, a brand-new book. Although this is a little different than sort of the standard written page. This is a book of photography, a beautiful coffee table piece called Promised Land, Photographs from the Land of the Bible. And I was talking about it some last week. It was a long time in the making, nine years in the making, several years in the just curating and pulling out all the thousands of photographs that have been taken in Israel over all the years that I’ve been traveling there. And this kind of combing through thousands of pictures, regionalizing them, kind of figuring out the lay of the land and how this is gonna work and it is finally here and it is, it is really satisfying when a long project comes to light. So, you can check that out. See pictures of it in the Daily Audio Bible Shop which can be found at dailyaudiobible.com or if you’re using the app press that little drawer icon in the upper left-hand corner and that pops open window and you’ll find the Shop in there. You’ll find Promised Land, Photographs from the Land of the Bible in the lifestyle section or in the books and audiobooks section, so check it out. I’m excited, I’m excited for it to start landing in homes and being enjoyed and prayerfully it will do what its mission is, to beautifully portray the land of the Bible and give us a context for where these stories actually happened.

If you want to partner with the Daily Audio Bible, if the mission that we share together to bring the spoken word of God read fresh every day and given freely to whoever will listen, if that has made a difference in your life then thank you for your partnership. There’s a link on the homepage at dailyaudiobible.com or if you’re using the app, you can press the Give button in the upper right-hand corner or the mailing address is P.O. Box 1996 Springhill, Tennessee 37174.

And as always if you have a prayer request or encouragement, you can hit the Hotline button in the app, that’s the little red button at the top or you can dial 877-942-4253.

And that’s it for today. I’m Brian. I love you and I’ll be waiting for you here tomorrow.

Prayer and Encouragements:

Hi, it’s Mya here, I called once before in March I think about asking for prayers for my mum for, cause she needed to have a knee replaced, like knee replacement surgery and she was really scared and she didn’t want it but I know it was gonna happen but we didn’t’ know the date. And then it took a while and she had her surgery recently. And everything went fine, everything went well and kind of a funny thing that the doctor after the surgery, doctor came in to talk to her and he said like are you lucky cause a week after her surgery they’re going in some sort of a lock down cause in my country there kind of in lock down now. So, it’s, so doctor said you got lucky cause so many surgeries got canceled after that. And then I thought after my mum said that I said, I thought, she didn’t get lucky it was, that was God’s plan and God, God, I believe that our prayers got answered and my mum got the surgery. She wasn’t scared. Everything went fine and yeah, there is no such thing as luck. I believe that and yeah, the only thing now, what’s left now is to pray for my mum so her knee heals all good and she can walk finally and not, she’s not in pain anymore. And thank you for everyone, for prayers and I’m praying for everyone, I’m kind of one of the background, background prayers, praying people, who don’t really call in. This is my second time and thank you very much. Bye.

Hello, this is Stan calling from Maryland. I just finished listening to Tammy from the OutterRondacks and her crying for emotional healing for just overall relief from the pressure for caring for her husband and the physical recovery that she had to have a hysterectomy to address her own cancer issue. So, Father, I lift Tammy before You and her husband. I pray most of all that she would, that You would lavish Your presence, Your peace, Your patience, Your kindness, Your gentleness, Your self-control, over her. Father, I know what it’s like to be caught up in depression. To see that that tunnel is dark and there is no light down it. The end. So, I pray Father, that You would illuminate the light, that You would illuminate the way out for Tammy. That You would hear Father, the cry of her heart to be healed and You would be gracious with You hand and heal her. I pray these things in the name of Jesus for His glory. Amen.

Hello my Daily Audio Bible family, this is His Beloved calling in. I am just wanting to piggyback on something I just heard from James, not from California anymore, the Teacher. I feel the exact same and it just, I just wanted to call in and say I love you all so much. And like James, I have moved more times than I want to think about in the last several years since I joined the Daily Audio Bible in 2000 I don’t know, I think it was 13. And changed churches, been divorced and married. But the one consistent family I have is you guys. And I start my day everyday, I pray for everyone every day. Brian, Jill, your beautiful family thank you so much for creating this platform for all of us to come together. And all the prayer warriors out there and all the members of our family. We are so strong together as a family praying for one another. And I haven’t called in, in a while but I’m here praying on the sidelines, standing in the gap for all of you. And I love you muah. And I will speak to you soon. God Bless. Bye.

Good afternoon DAB family. Today is Friday, November 12th and yesterday I went for my sixth month follow-up because last year after my stay in the hospital I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. But the cancer was induline or I should say is induline or slow acting. And initially they had me on every three months and then in May of this year my hematologist moved me to six months. And I wasn’t really sure what to expect, I was hoping for you know, that it was still induline. And they did lab work yesterday and I got a phone call from the lab saying that everything looked normal, that my labs looked good and blood work looked good and they will see me in six months and I just broke. My sister called me and I just broke. And I also told her, I said it’s like holding your breath and you didn’t realize you were and I’m just so thankful to God. I’m so thankful Lord. And I was just, I just hope and pray that it continues to be induline for a very long time. And I just had to share this with my DAB family. And I forgot to say that this is Avery from Washington State, I’m just so happy I forgot about that. So, thank you family. Love you all. I pray everything goes well with you and that you stay faithful to the Lord. And I’m still working on it myself.

Hello my DAB family. This is Mark Street from Sydney Australia. Today is Friday the 12th. I’ve just been listening to the podcast and I heard James the Teacher from LA. James, I wish there was more time but I just wanna support you, send a tide, I know you were giving praise that you’re still on your path James. But, I want to, I just want to give you some support my brother. I’ve been through the same path as you. I’m ten years down the track, 11 years down the track actually now and I was very blind to a lot of the same. I’m a sinful man and it was sifting through the Daily Audio Bible 11 years that God has been doing wonderful, wonderful, wonderful things for me. He’s opened my eyes to everything to my sins and I’ve been slowly, He’s been slowly bringing back things for me. Giving me back things. It’s not an easy journey as Brian said, we’ve gotta have, we’ve gotta have some endurance, we’ve gotta learn endurance. Endurance is not easy as you know. But, I’m behind you brother. Believe me, keep the faither and keep coming and praying and God will restore everything to you. I promise you. Love Mark Street from Sydney Australia. Bye.

11/14/2021 DAB Chronological Transcription

Matthew 28 and Mark 16

It’s the 14th day of November. I am Jill and you are listening to Daily Audio Bible Chronological, welcome. So great to have you here as we do journey through the Bible every single day and we do it in chronological order and we’re going to do it so that we can get through the entire Bible in a year. And you do that in community, whether you know it or not, whether you do it and listen individually, you are connected by a far greater community, people listening. And that’s the beauty of it, that we can meet here together at the global campfire. We’re going to center ourselves around the Scripture, settle our minds, settle our hearts and our spirits, quiet our souls and just listen, listen for what God will say and speak and do in us through us and among us. And it’s a great day because it is a brand new week around here, brand new mercy awaiting you. And there’s a brand new translation that we are going to begin and read throughout this week. Together. Today we’re reading the book of Matthew, the chapter is the 28th chapter, and then we’re going to jump over to Mark and read the 16th chapter of Mark. And this week our translation is the Christian Standard Bible. Now listen, we’re gonna jump into reading here, but real quick, brand new thing starting tomorrow on the Daily Audio Bible Chronological DABC. And you wanna be here and you don’t want to miss it, because you’re gonna wanna be a part of it, because I need you to be a part of it, because I want you to be a part of it. So if you have a friend, call them, text them, message them and make sure that they’re listening tomorrow so that we can all get caught up no matter where you’re at, you abandon where you’re at and jump into today so that we can all participate in this exciting, great new thing that’s happening for this week. Okay. Matthew 28 Christian Standard Bible.

Commentary:

I don’t know about you, but does anybody else just love the fact that the person that Jesus first showed himself to after his resurrection was a woman who was formally demon possessed? Does that strike anybody else? Let’s just sit with this fact for a second. If you think that you are too damaged for Jesus to show himself to you, to be used by him for anything productive in this world or for the Kingdom of heaven, can you just remember the fact that Jesus, after his death and his resurrection, showed himself to a woman who was formerly demon-possessed, but he cast those demons out of her, especially in a time period where women did not hold the place that they hold like they do today. We still have issues with women being second rate citizens in some parts of the world, and certain denominations or faith. But let’s just talk about 2000 years ago, like both of my grandmother’s grandmothers, both my mother’s mother and my father’s mother obtained the right to vote in their lifetime, and I never asked them about it. Well, I never met one of them. But my other grandmother, I never thought to ask her. So even in the last 100 or so years of this time period, we have evolved greatly in equality of women. But we’re talking about a period where we would not be able to relate. And this is what makes Jesus so amazing is that Jesus, in all of these stories, relates to the women. He refuses no woman who approaches him. And I love love that we read today that Mary Magdalene is the person that Jesus reveals himself to after his resurrection. Prayer: Father, we thank you that you continually amaze us at every turn on every page in the Bible and every page in the story of our lives. When we look for you, you are there and you continually amaze us. But we must remember to look- to intentionally look and we will find you. We will see you. We will seek you, when we seek you with our whole heart. And Father, that is the desire of my heart to know you with my whole heart, to leave nothing back. Thank you for your intentionality with us, especially us as women. Thank you for this reminder today that we tend to continually discount and diminish our own selves, thinking that there’s nothing here that you could use. You use it all when we allow you to heal us from the inside out, you redeem it, renew it and make us whole and new again. We thank you for it. We love you for it. We praise you for it. We give you all the glory for the work that you have done in our lives. We thank you for that which is still yet to do. We give you glory, honor and praise Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.

Community Prayer Line:

Hey guys, this is Refined by the Fire in Ohio, and I’m not sure how I missed November 9. I was all caught up, I thought, but this morning I downloaded it and Jill just slayed my soul. Your reading with the passion and the brokenness that we all carry. And that reminder that Christ absolutely covered everything we have and will ever do. And it never changes how he views us, how he accepts us, how he calls us, how he longs for us, how he pursues us. And just thank you so much again for this journey together. Love you guys- have a great day.

Hello. This is Tilly from Florida. Was just listening on the 9th and I listened to the lady at the very end request about a husband who found out that he’s qualifies for the definition of the narcissist. Your Grace in that situation was beautiful. And yet, however, you’re obviously going to need strength to get through that because that stronghold is not easily broken without complete and 100% forgiveness. So I’m going to pray for you right now. Lord Jesus. I don’t remember the lady’s name at this time, but her story was really striking to me, so I lift her up to you and ask that would give her a good measure of grace to help her get through this situation. But on that strength of character and I do lift up her husband ask that he would be driven to an avenue of full repentance from his behavior, which may require departed forgiveness….that got into his life and even deliverance from that spirit. Thank you for answering this prayer, in Jesus’ name.

Hello, DABC. Family, this is Zina from London. I haven’t called for a while, but I’m here listening and going through the Bible for the first time, enjoying it. And thank you all families for always been there for each other. Thank you for praying for people. I’m praying, although I don’t come on to pray, but I do in my own time. Lift up some people in prayer. Jill today the 8 November, your commentary convicted me so deeply. I’m always making excuses like, oh, I’m just a new convert. I don’t know a lot about the Bible. I don’t feel confident in speaking to people about the gospel, but I know the little that I have. God is asking me to use it, especially with my family coming from a Muslim family. I think I have just what I need this ten months, I’ve been listening to the Daily Audio Bible and DAB as well. I think I’m well, a kid. Family, I just want you to pray for me because I’m going on a vacation December, and I’m meeting up with my family, and I just want to have that courage. I just want to have that bold faith to be able to preach the word of God. All Moses needed was a rod. All he needed was a staff to part the water. All I need I have already. You know? Just pray God ignites the fire in us- all of us to be able to use what we really have. Have a lovely day DABC family. Love you all. Bye.

Luke 23 and John 18-19

Welcome to Daily Audio Bible Chronological. I’m Jill. It’s the 13th day of November and it’s so great to be here with you as we have turned the page together, the story of our own lives and we have turned the page together in the Word of God as we are walking through it every single day on this journey of daily Audio Bible Chronological. Listen, I want you to stick around, make sure that you are here next week. I’m going to be announcing a brand new thing for chronological that has never been done before and it requires you. So I need you to be here and to listen and to participate. And that will start the day after tomorrow on the 15th. Right now we are here to read the Bible. So we’re beginning today in the book of Luke in the 23rd chapter, and then we’ll jump over to John and read chapters 18 and 19. And today is the last day in the Evangelical Heritage version, Luke chapter 23.

Commentary:

So we have now finished the four Gospels narrative of death of Jesus. And I tell you what, I wish we could all just be in a big living room with candles lit and some soft music in the background, just like here, just in the presence of friends and just hear. Just hear what? What did you hear? What stands out to you? What surprises you? What do you notice this time that you’ve never noticed before? What do you hear in the words of Jesus? What do you feel in the emotions of Jesus? What comes up inside of you? What bubbles up to the top?
What’s at the surface right now? What are you feeling? We would just talk. We would just remember. And we would just sit calmly, silently in contemplation and gratitude in Holy somber. And I would probably challenge us to lean into the ache right now, lean into the pain, hear the words of Jesus dying on a cross, yet caring for his mother in his absence, see his humanity, see his humility in being asked questions that could possibly change the fate of what was about to happen. And he chose silence. Jesus chose silence in a world where it’s become so noisy, so oversaturated with noise and people being so loud and demanding that we declare our Christianity and to literally, I see and hear people say, make some noise. I have read on four accounts now where Jesus, who had a right to speak up, to defend himself, to speak the truth, declare the truth of what was being asked of him and chose silence. I believe there is a time to speak out on the goodness of God. And I believe there is a time where we sit silently and we let our lives be a living example of the love, the unconditional love, the sacrificial love, the unfathomable love of Jesus Christ.

Prayer:

Father, we have heard the accounts of the death of Jesus now here. We have sat and listened. We have intentionally paused and remembered. We have been intentional with our feelings and what has come up to the surface as we have listened to the account of the death of an innocent man, Jesus. It seems difficult to say thank you, knowing that he was so brutally beat that he was unrecognizable. But what we see, what we hear, what we know, is that Jesus willingly went to the cross and died a brutal, unnecessary death. An innocent man so that we could all come into belief in Him could be free. And there are no words. There are no adequate words to say thank you. There are no adequate words to describe how much we feel. We don’t deserve such an act of love. But Jesus said otherwise. So, Father, may our lives be a representation of the love, the sacrificial love that you have shown to us so that all would come to the table and come to the knowledge that you are the way, the truth and the life. And we thank you that we enter in. May we come boldly, freely, without hesitation, the invitation of such love. We love you in return. Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.

Community Prayer Line:

Good morning, my dear family. It’s Susan from Canada. God’s Yellow Flower calling in. Beth from Atlanta. I want to pray for your friend whose family is being struck with Huntington’s Korea. I know it’s a very devastating disease, but in our family we have a genetic form of buying this. And when I found out I had it, I prayed against my children having it and God has been faithful. So I’m going to pray that your friend- it will stop right where it is and of course, healing for your friend. So, Lord God, I just lift up this Beth’s friend to you with Huntington’s, Korea, I ask for a healing touch upon his body, for strength and wisdom and courage to face what he needs to face in the future. And I ask dear God that this genetic predisposition will just stop right where it is, that it will not be passed from children to children to children, that it will be arrested and disappear from the genetic line in Jesus precious and Holy name, I pray. Amen.

Good morning, DABC family. This is Sonia in Austin, Texas, just doing an update. The young child that was in my room that had been moved out is being moved back into my room come tomorrow because someone from downtown said he legally can’t be in another room with just one other student until he is identified. He is in line to get tested, but that it could take six months and they wanted to know why the principal moved him. And the reason is because so many children are getting hurt. It’s not because nobody’s getting an education. That’s not the reason. The reason is because so many other children are getting hurt. When he gets mad, he kicks and he punches anyone who is near him and he deliberately will pick things up and throw them towards people. I’ve had to go to the minor emergency for him taking my finger and bending it all the way back and have been hit in private areas and punched in my glasses and hair pulled. So he is coming back on Monday. I’m just asking for prayer for our classroom and for him to get the testing that he needs and the help that he needs as soon as possible. I also have two other students waiting in line to be tested. One young boy doesn’t speak and is in a pull up and still is in line waiting to be tested. And it’s been two months now and they are way behind. So please, I need help. I need help for these students. They need to get the services that they should be getting by law. But of course, the system takes a long time, but we know God can move the system. Thank you.

It’s November 9. And Jill, thank you so much for your word, pointing out the words of the Last Supper where Jesus said that you’re all invited to partake and that all includes even those who still planning to be sinful and deceitful. Crooked. I just thank you so much for that. And I just want to pray for those loved ones. There’s family members that hurt us. There’s people in our lives, whether we know them well, they’re the closest people to us or whether they’re strangers that have caused hurt and trauma. I lift them up to you, Lord, and I just thank you that even if they are still continuing on their path of wrongdoing harm, deceitfulness that you….invited them to partake.

Ezekiel 31-32

Downfall of Egypt and Assyria

31 In the eleventh year,(A) in the third month, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me: “Son of man, say to Pharaoh king of Egypt and to his hordes,

‘Who are you like in your greatness?
Think of Assyria, a cedar in Lebanon,(B)
with beautiful branches and shady foliage
and of lofty height.
Its top was among the clouds.[a]
The waters caused it to grow;
the underground springs made it tall,
directing their rivers all around
the place where the tree was planted
and sending their channels
to all the trees of the field.
Therefore the cedar became greater in height
than all the trees of the field.(C)
Its branches multiplied,
and its boughs grew long
as it spread them out
because of the abundant water.(D)
All the birds of the sky
nested in its branches,(E)
and all the animals of the field
gave birth beneath its boughs;
all the great nations lived in its shade.
It was beautiful in its size,
in the length of its limbs,
for its roots extended to abundant water.
The cedars in God’s garden could not eclipse it;(F)
the pine trees couldn’t compare with its branches,
nor could the plane trees match its boughs.
No tree in the garden of God
could compare with it in beauty.

I made it beautiful with its many limbs,
and all the trees of Eden,
which were in God’s garden, envied it.

10 “‘Therefore, this is what the Lord God says: Since it[b] towered high in stature and set its top among the clouds, and it[c] grew proud(G) on account of its height, 11 I determined to hand it over to a ruler of nations;(H) he would surely deal with it. I banished it because of its wickedness. 12 Foreigners, ruthless men from the nations,(I) cut it down and left it lying. Its limbs fell on the mountains and in every valley; its boughs lay broken in all the earth’s ravines. All the peoples of the earth left its shade and abandoned it. 13 All the birds of the sky nested on its fallen trunk, and all the animals of the field were among its boughs. 14 This happened so that no trees planted beside water would become great in height and set their tops among the clouds, and so that no other well-watered trees would reach them in height. For they have all been consigned to death, to the underworld, among the people[d] who descend to the Pit.(J)

15 “‘This is what the Lord God says: I caused grieving on the day the cedar went down to Sheol.(K) I closed off the underground deep because of it:[e] I held back the rivers of the deep, and its abundant water was restrained. I made Lebanon mourn on account of it, and all the trees of the field fainted because of it. 16 I made the nations quake at the sound of its downfall, when I threw it down to Sheol to be with those who descend to the Pit. Then all the trees of Eden,(L) the choice and best of Lebanon, all the well-watered trees, were comforted(M) in the underworld. 17 They too descended with it to Sheol, to those slain by the sword. As its allies[f][g] they had lived in its shade among the nations.

18 “‘Who then are you like in glory and greatness among Eden’s trees? You also will be brought down to the underworld to be with the trees of Eden. You will lie among the uncircumcised with those slain by the sword.(N) This is Pharaoh and all his hordes. This is the declaration of the Lord God.’”

A Lament for Pharaoh

32 In the twelfth year, in the twelfth month, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me: “Son of man, lament(O) for Pharaoh king of Egypt and say to him,

‘You compare yourself to a lion of the nations,
but[h] you are like a monster[i](P) in the seas.
You thrash about in your rivers,
churn up the waters with your feet,
and muddy the[j] rivers.

“‘This is what the Lord God says:

I will spread my net over you(Q)
with an assembly of many peoples,
and they[k] will haul you up in my net.
I will abandon you on the land
and throw you onto the open field.
I will cause all the birds of the sky
to settle on you
and let the wild creatures of the entire earth
eat their fill of you.(R)
I will put your flesh on the mountains(S)
and fill the valleys with your carcass.
I will drench the land
with the flow of your blood,
even to the mountains;
the ravines will be filled with your gore.
“‘When I snuff you out,
I will cover the heavens
and darken their stars.
I will cover the sun with a cloud,(T)
and the moon will not give its light.
I will darken all the shining lights
in the heavens over you,
and will bring darkness on your land.
This is the declaration of the Lord God.
“‘I will trouble the hearts of many peoples,
when I bring about your destruction
among the nations,
in countries you have not known.
10 I will cause many peoples to be appalled at you,
and their kings will shudder with fear because of you(U)
when I brandish my sword in front of them.
On the day of your downfall
each of them will tremble
every moment(V) for his life.

11 “‘For this is what the Lord God says:

The sword of Babylon’s king
will come against you!
12 I will make your hordes fall
by the swords of warriors,
all of them ruthless men from the nations.(W)
They will ravage Egypt’s pride,
and all its hordes will be destroyed.
13 I will slaughter all its cattle
that are beside many waters.
No human foot will churn them again,
and no cattle hooves will disturb them.(X)
14 Then I will let their waters settle
and will make their rivers flow like oil.
This is the declaration of the Lord God.
15 When I make the land of Egypt a desolation,
so that it is emptied of everything in it,
when I strike down all who live there,
then they will know that I am the Lord.(Y)

16 “‘The daughters of the nations will chant that lament.(Z) They will chant it over Egypt and all its hordes. This is the declaration of the Lord God.’”

Egypt in Sheol

17 In the twelfth year,[l] on the fifteenth day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me: 18 “Son of man, wail over the hordes of Egypt and bring Egypt and the daughters of mighty nations down to the underworld,[m] to be with those who descend to the Pit:(AA)

19 Who do you surpass in loveliness?
Go down and be laid to rest with the uncircumcised!
20 They will fall among those slain by the sword.
A sword is appointed!(AB)
They drag her and all her hordes away.
21 Warrior leaders will speak
from the middle of Sheol
about him[n] and his allies:
‘They have come down;
the uncircumcised lie
slain by the sword.’(AC)

22 “Assyria is there with her whole assembly;
her graves are all around her.
All of them are slain, fallen by the sword.
23 Her graves are set in the deepest regions of the Pit,
and her assembly is all around her burial place.
All of them are slain, fallen by the sword—
those who once spread terror
in the land of the living.

24 “Elam(AD) is there
with all her hordes around her grave.
All of them are slain, fallen by the sword—
those who went down to the underworld uncircumcised,
who once spread their terror
in the land of the living.
They bear their disgrace
with those who descend to the Pit.
25 Among the slain
they prepare a bed for Elam
with all her hordes.
Her graves are all around her.
All of them are uncircumcised,
slain by the sword,
although their terror was once spread
in the land of the living.
They bear their disgrace
with those who descend to the Pit.
They are placed among the slain.

26 “Meshech and Tubal[o](AE) are there,
with all their hordes.
Their graves are all around them.
All of them are uncircumcised, slain by the sword,
although their terror was once spread
in the land of the living.
27 They do not lie down
with the fallen warriors of the uncircumcised,[p]
who went down to Sheol
with their weapons of war,
whose swords were placed under their heads[q]
and their shields[r]
rested on their bones,
although the terror of these warriors
was once in the land of the living.
28 But you will be shattered
and will lie down among the uncircumcised,
with those slain by the sword.(AF)

29 “Edom(AG) is there, her kings and all her princes,
who, despite their strength, have been placed
among those slain by the sword.
They lie down with the uncircumcised,
with those who descend to the Pit.
30 All the leaders of the north(AH)
and all the Sidonians(AI) are there.
They went down in shame with the slain,
despite the terror their strength inspired.
They lie down uncircumcised
with those slain by the sword.
They bear their disgrace
with those who descend to the Pit.

31 “Pharaoh will see them
and be comforted(AJ) over all his hordes—
Pharaoh and his whole army,
slain by the sword.”

This is the declaration of the Lord God.

32 “For I will spread my[s] terror
in the land of the living,
so Pharaoh and all his hordes
will be laid to rest among the uncircumcised,
with those slain by the sword.”

This is the declaration of the Lord God.

Hebrews 12:14-29

Warning against Rejecting God’s Grace

14 Pursue peace with everyone, and holiness(A)—without it no one will see the Lord.(B) 15 Make sure that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no root of bitterness springs up, causing trouble and defiling many.(C) 16 And make sure that there isn’t any immoral[a] or irreverent(D) person like Esau, who sold his birthright in exchange for a single meal.(E) 17 For you know that later, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, even though he sought it with tears, because he didn’t find any opportunity for repentance.(F)

18 For you have not come to what could be touched, to a blazing fire, to darkness, gloom, and storm, 19 to the blast of a trumpet, and the sound of words. Those who heard it begged that not another word be spoken to them, 20 for they could not bear what was commanded: If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned.[b](G) 21 The appearance was so terrifying that Moses said, I am trembling with fear.[c](H) 22 Instead, you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God (the heavenly Jerusalem), to myriads of angels, a festive gathering,(I) 23 to the assembly of the firstborn whose names have been written[d] in heaven, to a Judge, who is God of all, to the spirits of righteous people made perfect,(J) 24 and to Jesus, the mediator(K) of a new covenant,(L) and to the sprinkled blood, which says better things than the blood of Abel.(M)

25 See to it that you do not reject the one who speaks. For if they did not escape when they rejected him who warned them on earth, even less will we if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven.(N) 26 His voice shook the earth at that time, but now he has promised, Yet once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.[e](O) 27 This expression, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of what can be shaken(P)—that is, created things—so that what is not shaken might remain. 28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful. By it, we may serve God acceptably, with reverence and awe,(Q) 29 for our God is a consuming fire.(R)

Praise to the Merciful God

Hallelujah!
Give praise, servants of the Lord;
praise the name of the Lord.(A)

From the rising of the sun to its setting,
let the name of the Lord be praised.(C)

his glory above the heavens.(E)
Who is like the Lord our God—

Ezekiel 29:1-30:26, Hebrews 11:32-12:13, Psalms 112:1-10, Proverbs 27:17

Today is the 14th day of November welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian it is a joy to be here with you today as we greet a new week together. We just throw open that threshold and step through into this shiny sparkly new week that is out in front of us. And, so, it’s out there in the realm of faith. None of those days exist yet. We haven’t reached them yet. And we’ve been talking about that in the book of Hebrews. But we do have faith that this week will exist. And, so, as we look out in front of us we realize that our decisions, our conversations, our actions, that is what this week is gonna look like adn the story of this week is going to be told by our conversations and our motivations and our actions. It’s always nice to stand here at the threshold of this new week can know it’s not going to just be something that’s happening to us, we can happen to this week. We can take wise decisions in the ways that we conduct ourselves and we can be stronger at the end of this week then we are now and that can be an ever-increasing thing. And, so, it’s wonderful to be here with you around this Global Campfire at this threshold looking at the vista of all this week has to bring to us as we enter into it together. This week we will read from the Christian Standard Bible, and we’ll be picking up in the book of Ezekiel. We’ll actually be camping out in Ezekiel this entire week. We’re also in the letter to the Hebrews in the New Testament, and we will be concluding the letter to the Hebrews this week, somewhere around mid-week we will finish up the letter to the Hebrews. But we’re here now. This is where we presently are. So, let’s take that next step forward together. Ezekiel 29 and 30.

Prayer:

Father, thank you again. Thank you again for your word. Thank you again for this community, this…this family all over the world that gathers around this Global Campfire to take the next step forward together every day. And the next step forward is the next step forward in the Scriptures and we thank you. The Scriptures are the basis for…for this community and for us to gather and yet we’ve gathered and gotten to know each other by voice and have grown to care about what happens to one another as we share a year of history, of our own history and a year of history in the world and we thank you. We are grateful. It is with tremendous gratitude that we thank you for the gifts that are so bountiful, the gift of the Scriptures, the gift of each other, the gift of the body of Christ, the gift of salvation, the gift of technology, the gift that we live in a time in history now where this is a possibility. Thank you, father for all that you have done. Thank you for all that you have yet to do as we continue to step forward together. And we invite your Holy Spirit, and we ask that you help us to remain aware of your presence and remain in you, as we remain aware. Holy Spirit come we pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Greetings Daily Audio Bible family I called in a few days ago, maybe a week ago with a prayer request for my mom. I’ve been her caregiver since she was diagnosed with dementia, and I called in saying that it hit the point after a couple of years where I was going to need to place her in a residential care program just because it was getting too hard to keep her at home. This whole process and just the decision has just been so overwhelming and scary and stressful. But a bright side, we’ve been looking into a few places and one of the few places that I was comfortable with and that would meet our needs in terms of budget and location and the level of care she needs, it was just a lingering feeling that I just wasn’t quite sure if it would work out. And I took my mom to visit today and just got such a really good feeling and just positive signs. She seemed really happy and comfortable there. There is space that will be opening up soon. It’s in a…in a room that’s even bigger than what she thought she would get. And I did get really comfortable with the staff that we were able to meet with. So, thank you for everyone who has prayed for me. I know that God has heard my prayers and all of your prayers and I'm…I’m feeling just a little bit lighter today about this process and what’s going to come next for my family. So, thank you.

Hey this is Gregory Bowman from southwest Sweden. HEJ, Swedish for hello. So, you’ve just learned a new word. My DAB family I love you and just want to say that everything that I hear, Bible readings, prayer requests, answers to prayers, and celebration of God and getting to know He is reminds us that he is a good God. Few prayer requests. The local __ shop owners’ wife was gunned down by a psychiatric patient rehabilitating. We have…we have one of those places here where people can rehabilitate…criminals and psychiatric patients. It was…she was gunned down so I can’t begin to imagine what that…what he’s going through, the husband of that of that woman. My wife would like physical healing from stress which causes pain in her stomach. And I’m looking for online guitar students. She would like to…we both would like to be able to work closer to home or at home. So, we appreciate and thank you for everything you can pray into this. And we’re believing God that he will break through in a major way. Thank you. Bless you everyone. And people who call in regularly but also many who…who….who…who are there listening and praying. God bless you each one of you. And all of our family and England remembering everyone there because we come from…well I come from London she’s from Sweden, my wife Nahita’s from Sweden. But we love you and we just say stay encouraged in God in…

It’s Susan from Canada God Yellow Flower calling and I can’t believe it’s Friday and I…and I only have 11 minutes left on the community prayer. I can’t believe I finally caught up. Woo. Anyway, I’m hearing a lot of prayer for our children or our loved ones who are not saved or have turned away from the faith. And I want to encourage you because in my life there were two people my mother and my father-in-law and they were very hard hearted and stiff-necked, and I prayed. I prayed fervently for many, many years. I think for my mom it was like…what she…she lived to almost 90…about 60 years and…and my father-in-law at…at least 40 years anyways. And, you know, God put people in their path to lead them down the narrow road. It wasn’t me that changed their life. Well, I have to say it was…they both commented on how I remained faithful to the Lord but it wasn’t me who actually prayed with them to receive Christ but the change in both of them was astonishing. So, we are praying in the will of God for the salvation of the lost and I will continue. But pray fervently. Pray fervently. You’re in God’s will. Amen.

Good morning Daily Audio Bible this is June in Maryland. I’m calling to pray for all people who are calling in with loneliness or suffer from loneliness. I just wanted to say to you, please just review Psalm 68:6. It says God places the lowly in families and sets the prisoner free and gives them joy but makes the __ live in the sun scorched land. Please, my word of encouragement to you is don’t wait for someone to invite you, don’t wait to be a friend, be a…get a friend…be a friend, learn to be a friend. It is a skill. It isn’t something that comes naturally. That’s way we teach it to our children when they’re small and we make them take things to school and be nice and be kind. Be a friend. Don’t wait for the invitation. Open your doors. Invite people in. Invite your church, your fellow female church goers in. Host the evening. I’m not saying to stretch yourself above your means, but just…you can have tea and cheese and crackers. You can just have…it doesn’t have to always be so starch or so elaborate. But just learn to be a friend. And, spoiler alert, you will get your heart broken or along the way. The first time I tried to host something I invited about 10 people and one person came. I had all this food prepared everything and it broke my heart. But I kept doing it and now I have a family around me. I have friends who’ve become family, closer than a brother, who are the ones that are helping me supporting me all the day long calling me every single day to check on me as a recover from this pneumonia and just always around me loving me, carrying me, guiding me, being there for me and praying with me. So, please learn to be a friend. I’m running out of time. Love you all. Have a blessed day.

Ezekiel 29-30

A Prophecy of Egypt’s Ruin

29 In the tenth year, in the tenth month on the twelfth day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me: “Son of man, face Pharaoh king of Egypt and prophesy against him and against all of Egypt.(A) Speak to him and say, ‘This is what the Lord God says:

Look, I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt,
the great monster[a](B) lying in the middle of his Nile,
who says, “My Nile is my own;
I made it for myself.”
I will put hooks in your jaws(C)
and make the fish of your streams
cling to your scales.
I will haul you up
from the middle of your Nile,
and all the fish of your streams
will cling to your scales.
I will leave you in the desert,(D)
you and all the fish of your streams.
You will fall on the open ground
and will not be taken away
or gathered for burial.(E)
I have given you
to the wild creatures of the earth
and the birds of the sky as food.(F)

“‘Then all the inhabitants of Egypt
will know that I am the Lord,
for they[b] have been a staff made of reed
to the house of Israel.

When Israel grasped you by the hand,
you splintered,(G) tearing all their shoulders;
when they leaned on you,
you shattered and made all their hips unsteady.[c]

“‘Therefore, this is what the Lord God says: I am going to bring a sword(H) against you and cut off both people and animals from you. The land of Egypt will be a desolate ruin.(I) Then they will know that I am the Lord. Because you[d] said, “The Nile is my own; I made it,” 10 therefore, I am against you and your Nile. I will turn the land of Egypt into ruins, a desolate waste from Migdol to Syene, as far as the border of Cush. 11 No human foot will pass through it, and no animal foot will pass through it.(J) It will be uninhabited for forty years. 12 I will make the land of Egypt a desolation among[e] desolate lands, and its cities will be a desolation among[f] ruined cities(K) for forty years. I will disperse the Egyptians among the nations and scatter them throughout the lands.(L)

13 “‘For this is what the Lord God says: At the end of forty years I will gather the Egyptians from the peoples where they were dispersed.(M) 14 I will restore the fortunes of Egypt and bring them back to the land of Pathros, the land of their origin. There they will be a lowly kingdom. 15 Egypt will be the lowliest of kingdoms and will never again exalt itself over the nations. I will make them so small they cannot rule over the nations. 16 It will never again be an object of trust(N) for the house of Israel, drawing attention to their iniquity of turning to the Egyptians. Then they will know that I am the Lord God.’”

Babylon Receives Egypt as Compensation

17 In the twenty-seventh year, in the first month, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me: 18 “Son of man, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon made his army labor strenuously against Tyre.(O) Every head was made bald and every shoulder chafed, but he and his army received no compensation from Tyre for the labor he expended against it. 19 Therefore, this is what the Lord God says: I am going to give the land of Egypt to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon,(P) and he will carry off its wealth, seizing its spoil and taking its plunder. This will be his army’s compensation. 20 I have given him the land of Egypt as the pay he labored for, since they worked for me.” This is the declaration of the Lord God. 21 “In that day I will cause a horn to sprout(Q) for the house of Israel, and I will enable you to speak out(R) among them. Then they will know that I am the Lord.”

Egypt’s Doom

30 The word of the Lord came to me: “Son of man, prophesy and say, ‘This is what the Lord God says:

Wail,(S) “Woe because of that day!”
For a day is near;
a day belonging to the Lord is near.(T)
It will be a day of clouds,(U)
a time of doom[g] for the nations.
A sword will come against Egypt,
and there will be anguish in Cush
when the slain fall in Egypt,
and its wealth is taken away,
and its foundations are demolished.
Cush, Put, and Lud,(V)
and all the various foreign troops,[h]
plus Libya[i] and the men of the covenant land
will fall by the sword along with them.
This is what the Lord says:
Those who support Egypt will fall,
and its proud strength will collapse.
From Migdol to Syene
they will fall within it by the sword.
This is the declaration of the Lord God.
They will be desolate
among[j] desolate lands,
and their cities will lie
among ruined[k] cities.(W)
They will know that I am the Lord
when I set fire to Egypt(X)
and all its allies are shattered.

On that day, messengers will go out from me in ships(Y) to terrify confident Cush. Anguish will come over them on the day of Egypt’s doom.[l] For indeed it is coming.

10 “‘This is what the Lord God says:

I will put an end to the hordes[m] of Egypt
by the hand of King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon.
11 He along with his people,
ruthless men from the nations,
will be brought in to destroy the land.
They will draw their swords against Egypt
and fill the land with the slain.(Z)
12 I will make the streams dry
and sell the land to evil men.(AA)
I will bring desolation
on the land and everything in it
by the hands of foreigners.
I, the Lord, have spoken.

13 “‘This is what the Lord God says:

I will destroy the worthless idols
and put an end to the false gods in Memphis.(AB)
There will no longer be
a prince from the land of Egypt.
And I will instill fear in that land.
14 I will make Pathros(AC) desolate,
set fire to Zoan,
and execute judgments on Thebes.
15 I will pour out my wrath on Pelusium,
the stronghold of Egypt,
and will wipe out the hordes of Thebes.
16 I will set fire to Egypt;
Pelusium will writhe in anguish,
Thebes will be breached,
and Memphis will face foes in broad daylight.[n]
17 The young men of On[o] and Pi-beseth
will fall by the sword,
and those cities[p] will go into captivity.
18 The day will be dark[q] in Tehaphnehes,
when I break the yoke of Egypt there
and its proud strength
comes to an end in the city.
A cloud(AD) will cover Tehaphnehes,[r]
and its surrounding villages will go into captivity.
19 So I will execute judgments against Egypt,
and they will know that I am the Lord.’”

Pharaoh’s Power Broken

20 In the eleventh year, in the first month, on the seventh day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me: 21 “Son of man, I have broken the arm(AE) of Pharaoh king of Egypt. Look, it has not been bandaged—no medicine has been applied and no splint put on to bandage it so that it can grow strong enough to handle a sword. 22 Therefore, this is what the Lord God says: Look! I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt. I will break his arms, both the strong one and the one already broken, and will make the sword fall from his hand. 23 I will disperse the Egyptians among the nations and scatter them among the countries.(AF) 24 I will strengthen the arms of Babylon’s king and place my sword(AG) in his hand. But I will break the arms of Pharaoh, and he will groan before him as a mortally wounded man. 25 I will strengthen the arms of Babylon’s king, but Pharaoh’s arms will fall. They will know that I am the Lord when I place my sword in the hand of Babylon’s king and he wields it against the land of Egypt. 26 When I disperse the Egyptians among the nations and scatter them among the countries, they will know that I am the Lord.”

Hebrews 11:32-12:13

32 And what more can I say? Time is too short for me to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah,(A) David, Samuel, and the prophets,(B) 33 who by faith conquered kingdoms,(C) administered justice, obtained promises, shut the mouths of lions,(D) 34 quenched the raging of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, gained strength in weakness, became mighty in battle, and put foreign armies to flight.(E) 35 Women received their dead, raised to life again. Other people were tortured, not accepting release, so that they might gain a better resurrection. 36 Others experienced mockings and scourgings, as well as bonds and imprisonment.(F) 37 They were stoned,[a](G) they were sawed in two, they died by the sword, they wandered about in sheepskins, in goatskins,(H) destitute, afflicted, and mistreated. 38 The world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and on mountains, hiding in caves and holes in the ground.

39 All these were approved through their faith, but they did not receive what was promised, 40 since God had provided something better for us, so that they would not be made perfect without us.(I)

The Call to Endurance

12 Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses(J) surrounding us, let us lay aside every hindrance and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance(K) the race that lies before us, keeping our eyes on Jesus,[b] the pioneer and perfecter[c] of our faith. For the joy that lay before him,[d] he endured the cross, despising the shame,(L) and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Fatherly Discipline

For consider him who endured such hostility from sinners against himself, so that you won’t grow weary and give up.(M) In struggling against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood. And you have forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons:

My son, do not take the Lord’s discipline lightly
or lose heart when you are reproved by him,
for the Lord disciplines the one he loves
and punishes every son he receives.[e](N)

Endure suffering as discipline: God is dealing with you as sons. For what son is there that a father does not discipline? But if you are without discipline—which all receive[f]—then you are illegitimate children and not sons.(O) Furthermore, we had human fathers discipline us, and we respected them. Shouldn’t we submit even more to the Father of spirits and live?(P) 10 For they disciplined us for a short time based on what seemed good to them, but he does it for our benefit, so that we can share his holiness.(Q) 11 No discipline seems enjoyable at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it yields the peaceful fruit(R) of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.(S)

12 Therefore, strengthen your tired hands and weakened knees,(T) 13 and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be dislocated[g] but healed instead.(U)

Footnotes:

  1. 11:37 Other mss add they were tempted,
  2. 12:2 Or us, looking to Jesus
  3. 12:2 Or the founder and completer, or the source and perfecter
  4. 12:2 Or who instead of the joy lying before him
  5. 12:6 Pr 3:11–12

Ezekiel 27:1-28:26, Hebrews 11:17-31, Psalm 111:1-10, Proverbs 27:15-16

Today is the 13th day of November, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian. It is a joy and an honor and a privilege to be here with you today around the Global Campfire as we take the next step forward, that next step will lead us back into Ezekiel. We have been camping out in Ezekiel for a little bit working our way through. It will also lead us into the letter to the Hebrews where we began to speak about faith and I began to walk down the hall of faith yesterday, we’ll conclude that journey today. But first, Ezekiel chapters 27 and 28.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word, we thank You for another week. They pass by and we keep moving forward. But we like to take this opportunity to look back and thank You, You, every week, every week You speak to us through the Scriptures. Every week we learn and grow. Sometimes we get clarity and direction for the path ahead. Sometimes we just get wisdom that is gonna grow and cultivate inside of us and be valuable. Sometimes we get knowledge and understanding of the trajectory, of the way that our faith grew and evolved over time as You lead Your people, our spiritual ancestors. We are grateful for all of it, we thank You for all of it. We thank that it gives us an anchor point in the fog of life. Sometimes things can be confusing. We have a gift and its tangible, we can see it, we can hold it, we can touch it and yet to really immerse ourselves into it, it has to go with in us and transform us and that has been happening every day of this year and so, now we can look back and see what a shift, how things can change in the way that we view them when we immerse ourselves in Your word and yield ourselves to the guidance of Your Spirit. So, come, Holy Spirit, we yield ourselves to You and ask for Your direction and clarity in the days ahead. We ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Announcements:

dailyaudiobible.com that’s home base, that’s well, that’s a website. If you had never heard of those things, it’s kind of new, but that’s the website that’s where you find out what’s going on around here. If you’re using the Daily Audio Bible, you can find out what’s going on around here within the app by pushing the drawer icon in the upper left-hand corner and what is going on around here is the release of a brand-new resource that we’re so excited about, so excited about this one: Promised Land, Photographs from the Land of the Bible. A project that was long time coming but is now here and is truly gorgeous. A beautiful coffee table book. It’s like 12 x 12 12" x 12" like I was saying the other day. That’s the equivalent of like album jacket for vinyl album a really good size for sitting there on the coffee table. It’s just a beautiful piece. We went for it. We used only the finest materials in the manufacturing and it’s something that’s gonna hold up, it’s a really beautiful art piece. So, you can check that out at dailyaudiobible.com in the Shop, there’s categories in the Shop, a number of different categories. You can find this in books and audiobooks or you can also find this in the lifestyle section. Check it out, its mission is to bring the places where the Bible happened near and to present these locations creatively and beautifully because indeed it is a very beautiful land of very, very diverse land. There’s just kind of flipping through Promised Land, you can realize the diversity of the land. It might not be quite as apparent that it’s a very, very small nation. So, I live here in the United States of America in the rolling hills of Tennessee. But this is a vast land so we have these rolling hills but we also have the high mountain peaks and deep and barren deserts and beautiful coastlines. We have a great amount of diversity. Geographically in this country. Israel is pretty much just as diverse, but packed into a small area like one of the smallest of the United States. Then so if, if I wanted to get to the desert from here in the rolling hills of Tennessee, I would neither or either need to drive a couple of days or get on a plane and fly out to the desert. Whereas in Israel, things are much more compact so we try to capture the diversity of the land and the beauty of the places where the Bible happened and this resource is available now.

If you want to partner with the Daily Audio Bible, thank you, humbly we would not be here if we’re not in this together. So, thank you, humbly, there is a link on the homepage at dailyaudiobible.com. And that’s it for today. I’m Brian. I love you and I’ll be waiting for you here tomorrow.

Prayer and Encouragements:

Hey, this is a message for Terry who calls himself The Guy in Prison. Terry, I want you to know I just prayed a prayer for you and I’m gonna say it on this podcast. You are a new creation, Christ Jesus. The old has gone, the new has come. He has given you a new name, you are a son of a most high God. Also, I am praying in the name of Jesus for protection that God will bring other Christians who are in the place where you are, like magnets together. I am praying that you, in the name of Jesus, you all will become a hedge of protection for each other, that you will begin to pray together and love each other as you follow the Jesus way. I pray Terry, in the name of Jesus, for God’s blessing, mercy, grace over you. I pray Terry, that you will become a force for good, a force for love, a force for peace and that will emanate like that aroma of Christ from you and around you and when you walk into the room you have the power to change the atmosphere in the name of Jesus because Jesus lives in your heart. I lift you up Terry, and I pray that God will bring other people into your life who are in the prison as well to lift you up and to encourage you in the name of Jesus. I thank You God that Terry is fearfully and wonderfully made. I thank You Lord God, that You are blessing him to claim his new identity in you. He is a son of the most high God, he is renewed, redeemed and restored. And Terry you are free and one day soon, in the name of Jesus I pray, sooner than you expect, you will be free indeed, physically, and able to move on with your life, in the name of Jesus. Trust and know that you are loved in the name of Jesus I pray the things. Amen.

This prayer is for Tammy from the Adirondacks. I heard your prayer request yesterday about your husband and the health struggles he’s facing, the depression, and especially now the depression that you’re facing after surgery. My heart just really want to you and so this is Daniel from Michigan, actually I really liked your handle so I’m gonna say Daniel from the Great Lakes and I just wanted to encourage you and I wanted to encourage you today, to tell you that, that you are loved, that God loves you and that’s my prayer for you today that that prayer from Ephesians where Paul’s praying that he wishes above all else, that we would know the height, depth, breath or I should just say the vastness of God’s love and that’s my prayer for you today that you would know His love and that you would be empowered by the Holy Spirit and with strength to fight and face the battle that you are and I pray for healing for both of you in Jesus name, Amen.

Hey my beautiful DAB fam, this is Kingdom Seeker Daniel. Family, I want to hold up our first family here at the DAB, Pastor Brian and Lady Jill. I’ve been thinking about them since I heard a caller a while, a while back mention that we need to be praying for them and then on yesterday Lady Jill was out from the reading due to some kind of something, I don’t remember what it was but she wasn’t well. And it really brought back to my mind of how important it is for us to cover our first family here at the DAB. So, that’s what I want to do family, can we all gather around the Global Campfire and hold them up. Come on, let’s pray. Father, we thank You and we praise You for the leaders, Your servants, that You have raised up for such a time as this: Pastor Brian Hardin and Lady Jill. God, I ask that You would strengthen them in the inner man. O God, would You cause them to feel healing virtue flowing in their bodies from the crown of their head, to the soles of their feet. I ask God, that You would preserve their health, that You preserve their strength, that You would touch their vocal cords, touch their vital organs, their lungs and all the major components that make up their physical being. Lord, we speak healing to the house, we speak peace to their dwelling place, we pray that You would strengthen them, that You would let Your angels be encamped around about them all the days of their lives. We thank You for their sacrifice. And we pray that they would feel Your strength even now, coming into their little bones, in their bloodstream, in every part of who they are, cover them. In Jesus name I pray. Amen. We love you Pastor Brian and Lady Jill. Bless you guys.

Hi, happy Wednesday. Today is November 10th. This is Shawna calling. First, I wanna say Brian’s reading about how we don’t have to carry everything by ourselves just being apart of this Daily Audio Bible family, just hearing, not only the words but hearing the words of encouragement and the prayer requests just gives ___ for everyone and saying that I wanted to bless everyone for prayer. For some reason, my level of trust and anxiety is just like, I really can’t describe but I would ask that you all would please keep me in prayer. And I would just continue to change my perspective and look at God for who He is and trust Him for who He is. I’ve trusted Him before in the past but because I’ve been so overburdened by so many things, the cares and all the souls going in and around me it’s causing me to look at them more then look at God and what He is capable of doing. Thank you all, I love you guys, thank you, bye.

Hey, it’s Shannon from Texas and I need some more prayer. I am realizing that my, all these strange things that are happening, I’ve known this for a while and it’s happening, it’s been like an attack. Mostly it’s been on my ability but also on my ministry and I’m just determined to press through and I’m doing like a month of November every morning prayer and I’m just gonna pray my way, press my way through no matter what. And it’s been a strong attack but God is stronger. And I will have victory. But what I’m dealing with right now, so you can pray, is my son, who got out of rehab, I’ve called in for 2015, and I called the other day just about the abuse cause that’s really set me so much back, I’m trying not to get emotional but I can’t that I didn’t go to work, I just didn’t show up. So, I think that might be bit much. And it’s just really hard on me, people know what it does to your spirit. It’s destructive. But I just have been going through so much lately that I just shut down. And I just could not do it, it’s a really far drive, it’s just like, I feel like I’m just being tossed to and fro. But what I need prayers for is my son is still kinda not real good right now. He’s kinda texting me about a car and I just need the Lord’s intervention and I just need prayer and I love you guys. And love you, love you, bye.

Ezekiel 27-28

A Lament Over Tyre

27 The word of the Lord came to me. You, son of man, take up a lament over Tyre. Tell Tyre, who dwells at the entrances to the sea as a merchant traveling to many coastlands, this is what the Lord God says.

Tyre, you say, “I am a perfect beauty.”
Your borders were in the heart of the sea.
Your builders perfected your beauty.
They built for you a double-decked ship,[a] made of fir[b] from Senir.
They took a cedar from Lebanon to make a mast for you.
They made your oars of oak from Bashan.
Your planks were made of pine,[c] inlaid with ivory,
from the coasts of Cyprus.[d]
Your sail was brightly decorated linen from Egypt,
which also served as your banner.
Your awning was blue and purple from the coasts of Elishah.
Inhabitants of Sidon and Arvad served as your rowers.
Tyre, your own skilled men, who were with you,
manned your sails.
Skilled veterans from Gebal[e] were on board with you,
serving as your repairmen.
All the ships of the sea and their sailors
were in your harbor to engage in trade with you.
10 Warriors from Persia, Lud,[f] and Put were in your army.
They hung up their shields and helmets among you.
They enhanced your splendor.
11 Men of Arvad and Cilicia were on your walls all around,
and men of Gammad were on your towers.
They hung their quivers all around on your walls.
They made your beauty perfect.

Tyre’s Trade[g]

12 Tarshish traded with you because of your great wealth of every kind. They traded silver, iron, tin, and lead for your exports.

13 Ionia, Tubal, and Meshek also dealt with you. They traded human beings and articles of bronze for your wares.

14 From Beth Togarmah, horses, war horses, and mules were traded to you because of the abundance of your products.

15 The men of Rhodes[h] also dealt with you. Many coastlands were agents of your trade, bringing back ivory tusks and ebony in payment to you.

16 Edom[i] traded with you because of the abundance of your products. They sold turquoise, purple, and finely embroidered cloth, linen, coral, and rubies[j] to you as exports.

17 Judah and the land of Israel also dealt with you. With wheat of Minnith, flour, honey, oil, and balm they bought your wares.

18 Damascus traded with you because of the abundance of your products, because of the abundance of all kinds of wealth. They sold wine of Helbon, wool from Sahar, 19 and wine casks from Izalla[k] as exports. Wrought iron, cassia, and calamus were traded for your goods.

20 Dedan traded to you saddle blankets used for riding. 21 Arabia and all the rulers of Kedar were your agents for trade in lambs, rams, and goats. They were your agents for those. 22 Merchants of Sheba and Ra’amah dealt with you in all kinds of expensive perfumes and in all kinds of precious stones and gold, which they sold you for your merchandise.

23 Haran, Kanneh, and Eden, and dealers from Sheba, Assyria, and Kilmad were your dealers. 24 They were your dealers in elegant clothing, in purple garments and finely embroidered cloth, in carpets with multicolored trim, tightly wound with ropes for your marketplaces.

25 Tarshish ships traveled for you with your merchandise.

Tyre’s Collapse

So you were full and very heavily loaded in the midst of the seas. 26 Your rowers brought you out into deep water. An east wind broke you up in the heart of the sea. 27 Your wealth, your exports and your imports, your sailors and your pilots, your repairmen, and those who bring you imports, all your warriors on board—in fact, all your company who were on board—will sink into the heart of the sea on the day of your collapse.

28 At the sound of the cry of distress from your pilots, the fields on the mainland will quake. 29 All who handle the oars will abandon their ships. The sailors and all the pilots of the sea will stand on shore. 30 They will shout loudly because of you and cry out bitterly. They will throw dirt on their heads and roll in ashes. 31 They will make themselves bald on account of you and put on sackcloth. They will weep bitterly over you, with a bitter lament. 32 In their grief, they will raise a lament over you. They utter this lament over you, “Who is like Tyre, now silenced in the midst of the sea?” 33 When your exports were unloaded from the seas, you satisfied many peoples. By your abundant wealth and your imports, you enriched the kings of the earth. 34 Now you have been broken up by the seas and sunk into the watery depths. Your merchandise and the entire company on board have sunk. 35 All the inhabitants of the coastlands are appalled because of you. Their kings’ hair stands on end. Their faces show distress. 36 Traders among the peoples whistle and hiss at you. You have become horrifying, and you will never exist again, forever.

Tyre’s King Is Expelled From Eden

28 The word of the Lord came to me. Son of man, say to the prince of Tyre that this is what the Lord God says.

Because you became arrogant and said, “I am a god, and I occupy a throne of a god in the heart of the seas,” even though you are a mere man and not a god, and because you regard your wisdom as divine wisdom— You really think you are wiser than Daniel, don’t you? No mystery baffles you. By your wisdom and your shrewdness you have gained wealth for yourself and put gold and silver into your treasuries. By your great skill in trading, you increased your wealth, but you became conceited because of your wealth.

Therefore, this is what the Lord God says. Because you regard your wisdom as divine wisdom, therefore, I am about to bring foreigners against you, the most ruthless of nations. They will unsheathe their swords against your beautiful wisdom, and they will desecrate your radiant splendor. They will cast you down to the pit, and you will die a violent death in the heart of the sea. Will you still claim “I am a god” in the presence of the one who kills you? It will be clear that you are merely a man and not a god when you fall into the hands of those who run you through. 10 You will die a death like that of the uncircumcised by the hand of foreigners, for I have spoken, declares the Lord God.

11 The word of the Lord came to me.

12 Son of man, raise a lament over the king of Tyre. Say to him that this is what the Lord God says.

You were a seal of perfection, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. 13 You were in Eden, the garden of God. Every kind of precious stone was covering you: carnelian, diamond, emerald, topaz, onyx, jasper, sapphire, agate, and beryl.[l] Your mountings and your settings were worked in gold. They were prepared on the day you were created.

14 You were a cherub, the anointed guardian. I appointed you. You were on the holy mountain of God, and you walked about in the midst of sparkling stones. 15 Your conduct was blameless from the day you were created until guilt was found in you. 16 In your widespread trade, you practiced much violence and you sinned. I defiled you by banishing you from the mountain of God. I expelled you, you guardian cherub, from among the sparkling stones.

17 You became arrogant because of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom together with your splendor. So I hurled you down to the earth and set you in front of kings who gloated over you. 18 By your many sins during your unscrupulous trade, you defiled your sanctuaries. So I made fire break out from your midst, and it devoured you. I reduced you to ashes on the ground in the sight of all who were watching. 19 All those among the people who knew you are appalled at you. You have become horrifying, and you will never exist again, forever.

An Oracle Against Sidon

20 The word of the Lord came to me.

21 Son of man, set your face toward Sidon, and prophesy against her. 22 Say that this is what the Lord God says.

I am against you, Sidon. I will display my glory in your midst, and they will know that I am the Lord, when I inflict punishments on you and display my holiness in you. 23 I will release the plague in her. There will be blood in her streets, and the slain will fall in her midst when the sword comes against her from all sides. Then they will know that I am the Lord.

Hope for Israel

24 Never again will the house of Israel be subjected to those who deride them, who are all around them like prickly briers or painful thorns. Then they will know that I am the Lord God.

25 This is what the Lord God says. When I gather the house of Israel from the peoples where they have been scattered, I will display my holiness through them in the sight of the nations. Then they will live on their own land, which I gave to my servant Jacob. 26 They will live on it in security. They will build houses and plant vineyards. They will live on it in security when I inflict judgments upon all those around them who despise them. Then they will know that I am the Lord, their God.

  1. Ezekiel 27:5 Or a ship with a double hull. The Hebrew word indicates that the planks were double. The meaning of many of the nautical terms in this section is uncertain.
  2. Ezekiel 27:5 The identification of some of the types of trees is uncertain.
  3. Ezekiel 27:6 The translation pine follows a different word division than that which occurs in the main Hebrew text, which has the reading daughter of Assyria.
  4. Ezekiel 27:6 The Hebrew reads Kittim. This term may include locations other than Cyprus.
  5. Ezekiel 27:9 Also called Byblos
  6. Ezekiel 27:10 Or Lydia
  7. Ezekiel 27:12 The meaning of many of the terms in verses 12-15 is uncertain.
  8. Ezekiel 27:15 The Greek text reads Rhodes, a Mediterranean island. The Hebrew reads Dedan, a desert oasis in Arabia, which is dealt with in verse 20.
  9. Ezekiel 27:16 The translation Edom follows some Hebrew manuscripts and ancient versions. Most Hebrew manuscripts read Aram, but verse 18 deals with that country under the heading Damascus, and the commodities in this verse fit better with Edom.
  10. Ezekiel 27:16 The identification of some of the precious items is uncertain.
  11. Ezekiel 27:19 In the translation, words from the beginning of verse 19 complete the sentence of verse 18. The Hebrew text at the beginning of verse 19 seems to read Dan and Javan paid for your wares, traversing back and forth, a sentence which does not fit this context.
  12. Ezekiel 28:13 The identification of some of the gemstones is uncertain.

Hebrews 11:17-31

17 By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered Isaac. This man, who received the promises, was ready to offer his only son, 18 about whom it was said, “Through Isaac your offspring will be traced.”[a] 19 He reasoned that God also had the ability to raise him from the dead, and in a figurative sense, Abraham did receive him back from the dead.

20 By faith Isaac also blessed Jacob and Esau about things that were going to happen.

21 By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of Joseph’s sons and worshipped as he leaned on the top of his staff.

22 By faith Joseph, as he neared the end of his life, mentioned[b] the Exodus of the sons of Israel and gave instructions about his bones.

23 By faith Moses was hidden by his parents for three months after he was born, because they saw he was a special child, and they were not afraid of the king’s order.

24 By faith Moses refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter when he grew up. 25 He chose to be mistreated with God’s people rather than enjoy sin for a little while. 26 He considered disgrace for the sake of Christ as greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.

27 By faith he left Egypt without fearing the king’s wrath, because he persevered as one who sees him who is invisible.

28 By faith he celebrated the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, so that the destroyer of the firstborn would not strike them down.

29 By faith they passed through the Red Sea, as if going through on dry ground. When the Egyptians tried it, they were drowned.

30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell after the people marched around them for seven days.

31 By faith Rahab the prostitute did not perish with the unbelievers, because she welcomed the spies in peace.

and his righteousness stands forever.
He has set up a memorial to his wonders.
Gracious and compassionate is the Lord.
He gives food to those who fear him.
He remembers his covenant forever.

to give them the nations as their possession.
The works of his hands are truth and justice.

All his precepts are trustworthy,
steadfast forever and ever,
done in truth and uprightness.
He sent redemption for his people.

Ezekiel 24:1-26:21, Hebrew 11:1-16, Psalms 110:1-7, Proverbs 27:14

Today is the 12th day of November welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I’m Brian it is great to be here with you today as we continue our journey, move another step forward on that journey. We’re reading from the Evangelical Heritage Version this week and our next step is in the book of Ezekiel. Today, chapters 24 25 and 26.

Commentary:

Okay. So, we’ve been navigating the letter to the Hebrews and we’ve spent ample time talking about the difficulty, what…what makes the gospel so revolutionary or what makes the gospel so controversial, especially in the first century. And, so, we’ve explored that and we’ve explored the way in which the writer of Hebrews is trying to show Hebrew believers as well as unbelievers that this isn’t a new arrival, a new thing that’s just magically been constructed by some people in a closet somewhere. There is prophetic heritage that is foretold that there was a savior coming, that this was supposed to happen. And we talked about how some people put their faith in Jesus because of this, and lived that way while others couldn’t get their minds around that this Jesus, this guy that was a Jew up from the Galilee, who got crucified by the Romans, how He could be this promised Savior. And, so, they rejected it. They didn’t believe. So, they both heard the message equally coming from similar backgrounds. So, what makes one person believe and another person reject? The answer is something that we have been exploring…well throughout our entire year but most certainly once we got to the letters of Paul. The difference is faith. And that is where the letter to the Hebrews is turning us now. So, you may hear the good news of the gospel and maybe it does nothing to you. And, so, faith is not present, does not arise. You do not put your faith in Christ, you will reject the message. Whereas with other people it’s like a light bulb goes on, it’s like…it’s like the presence of Jesus is very apparent. It’s like this unexplainable love washes over and everything starts like for a moment to make sense and there’s clarity and faith arises because of the experience and then we believe. The apostle Paul taught us as well as all of his readers of all of his letters over all the time since they’ve been written that Abraham’s faith is what made him righteous before God, not his adherence to a law because Abraham didn’t have a law to obey, not because of any rituals found in the law like male circumcision because that rule did not exist at that time. And, so, Paul’s argument was that it was Abram or Abraham’s faith, he believed the promise that God spoke to him. Even though he couldn’t see it, even though he was old too old, he and his wife really to have kids, I guess if you’re in your 90s you’re not thinking about starting a family. So, all of the reasons to not believe the promise were before Abraham and Abraham chose to believe God. Despite what he could clearly see he put his faith in God and God, in turn, counted that as a righteousness, counted Abraham as righteous before Him. So, it was faith that enacted this righteousness, not the adherence to the Mosaic law or any other ritual or rule. It was faith. And that’s where we are finally arriving in the letter to the Hebrews. And it’s essentially the same kind of argument. It’s just that Hebrews gives us definitions that are super famous about faith. And, so, quoting from Hebrews. “Faith is being sure about what we hope for, being convinced about things we do not see.” And then the letter to the Hebrews begins to give us examples of faith. “By faith we know that the universe was created by God’s word so that what is seen did not come from visible things.” Let’s just stop there because there’s a practical one to consider. Do we know that the universe was created by God or God’s word that he spoke it into existence so that everything that we now see came from something that was no…was not visible? And what kind of visibility are we talking about? Human visibility? Because God began to create things before human eyes were created. So, we could say taking a step back and just using deduction and reason we weren’t there. We weren’t eyewitnesses. We aren’t first person…person witnesses to the event of creation. We don’t know exactly how it came about. None of us do. We have clues and hints from the Scriptures that have been given to us, but that’s what we have. We weren’t there so we don’t know. But do we believe that the universe was created by God. I believe that. And, so, I can say I have not the ability to prove this. I am not a first-person witness to this. But, at least for all of the weakness of my faith in different areas of my life this area I have faith. I believe that even though I can’t see or do not understand, can’t even fathom what creating a universe and for that matter just speaking it into existence. I…I don’t know how that all works but I know that without faith it is impossible to please God. So, God is inviting us into a story that is out of our reach, right? Because when we have something within our grasp, and we are certain of it and we are certain that we understand how it’s put together, and how it works and how it operates and we have experience then we don’t really need that much faith, we already have the thing in our control. Whereas our relationship with God we will never be able to control it. We can be in it. We can experience it. And that does make our faith grow. As we continue to have fellowship with God we become more and more secure about what we didn’t know, but now that we do know because we’re experiencing it, but there will always be matters in the realm of the spirit that are beyond our control and that we do not understand and that is where our faith actually begins as it did with Abraham in the beginning of the story that we have been telling over and over throughout this year. Abraham had to believe something that seemed rather unlikely at best, that God shows up to you wandering in the desert and says go into another land that you’ve never been to. And that you get there, you obey that, you get there and then you are told this will be the land of your family one day and you will have descendants that outnumber the stars or the sand on the seashore. If your elderly you’re thinking this is this is highly unlikely, but Abraham believed anyway. Our story is no different. And as we continued in our reading from Hebrews today and it will…it will spill over into tomorrow. We started walking down what is famously known as the hall of faith because it’s a series of examples from the Hebrew Scriptures, not just Abraham alone, but a series of stories that we are familiar with because we’ve read them of people who had faith in God despite what seemed to be apparent. And in those stories, if we just go back and read Hebrews 11 again and just go down the list of the stores we can go yep, I remember that story. I remember that story. I remember that story. What we begin to realize is that without faith, the story couldn’t have happened. And what we are supposed to begin to understand is that it’s no different for us. Without faith, our story cannot happen. The story that we’re in, the one that we’re in love with a God who has adopted us into His family and…and now sees us as dear children and we now see Him as abba our papa, the most high God, the Creator of this universe, the One who was able to speak it into existence is intimately involved in our lives, knows who we are and desires fellowship. If I step away, if I step back, I examine myself, I can say I’m trying really hard as hard as I can. I am all in in this faith. I am all in. And yet my failures are so before my eyes. The ways in which I react and choose to not obey things are before my eyes. So, for me to think the God who spoke it all into existence intimately loves me and wants fellowship with me, from a logical perspective I could say I don’t know how that’s even possible. I am so small. I am so weak. I am so momentary. So, the only way then to be in this fellowship with God is by faith. We believe it despite our shortcomings, despite our logic, despite whatever. We reach beyond and find. We seek we find. There is no other way to be in life with God without faith. And there’s really to be honest, it’s very difficult to live a human life without faith. We are all living by faith in one way or another if we have any type of plan for the future beyond the next 30 seconds. We are in some way living by faith. Like we can’t see love but we see the evidence of love and we feel love and we have faith that it exists because even though it’s not a tangible thing it is a real thing. Or how about Christmas? Anybody thinking at this point that Christmas is just six weeks away? Well, that has not happened. That is six weeks away, and yet we are beginning to make preparations for that event and our lives are gonna get busier and busier and busier centered around that event that does not yet exist. Christmas of this year does not yet exist. It’s something that we have faith that it will come and that we will live that day and that day will be a day that we prepared for, but it does not exist until it does exist. We are all living by faith in one way or another and Hebrews is giving us the hall of faith. It’s giving us example after example after example of how a person’s story could not exist were it not for faith. And, so, it would be a good exercise for us to simply consider where our faith is. Where is it? We need to locate it and find out what it’s in. If it’s not in God it should be a lightbulb moment. All kinds of questions should begin to be answered for us as we contemplate what we are putting our faith in.

Prayer:

Father, we believe. We believe that You created all of this, including us, including our hearts, including our minds, including our ability to have faith. And, so, we believe. We declare our allegiance and faith in You. At the same time, we invite Your Holy Spirit to reveal to us places that we are placing faith in something that will not deliver and cannot work. Help us to learn the ways of faith because so often we consider our faith just simply the fact that we have prayed a prayer and accepted You believed. And that that we do believe, but the it is not a category that we are trying to grow in. We may sing songs and ask You to increase our faith. We may pray prayers that ask You to help us to have more faith. But in order for us to have more faith we’re going to have to reach the end of what we think we are in control of and what we think we know and begin to reach beyond that. And, so, when we ask You to give us more faith we are inviting disruption. We are inviting ourselves to continually be aware of the end of our ability to reason and…reason and rationalize things and know that we have to reach beyond that and seek and find. And, so, help us to understand this, to actually make this a functional category in our lives. Faith. Faith is what is to be increasing along with our ability to please You. And, so, Holy Spirit we invite You into that and we pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Announcements:

dailyaudiobible.com is home base, it’s the website, it’s where you find out what’s going on around here. And there’s plenty going on around here.

Yesterday we released the latest book and I shared about it in yesterday’s program but it is so exciting to finally bring to life a beautiful coffee table book. Promised Land is what it’s called. Promised Land. Photographs from the land of the Bible and it builds on the Promised Land films that we worked on for many years but this resource was created…well…over nine years of being in the land of Israel and photographing, but over the last several years putting it all together in a cohesive package that is truly beautiful and crafted to last and be held onto as an heirloom. At least that was the goal. It was, if we’re going to do this let’s do this right. Let’s do this with excellence. Let’s use the finest materials the finest matt art paper to print on, let’s make something worthy of the Global Campfire community. And we have done that. It is beautiful, beautiful on your coffee table, beautiful to give away. All with the same mission the Daily Audio Bible has. In this particular case it’s to try to bring the land of the Bible near so that we understand that these stories that we’re reading, they happened somewhere and those places exist. So, check it out. Promised Land, photographs from the land of the Bible. You can find that in the Daily Audio Bible Shop, whether that be at dailyaudiobible.com or in the app. Find the Shop and in the lifestyle category, or in the books and audiobooks category you will find Promised Land photographs from the land of the Bible. And this is book 5 for me. Although this is a little bit different in that it is largely a creative expression through visual, but I’ve done my best over the years of photographing the land to try to seek out the essence, the beauty and it is a beautiful land. So, check it out in the Daily Audio Bible Shop.

If you want to partner with the Daily Audio Bible you can do that dailyaudiobible.com. There is a link on the homepage. If you are using the app, you can press the Give button in the upper right-hand corner or the mailing address is PO Box 1996 Spring Hill Tennessee 37174.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hey Daily Audio Bible family James the teacher not in LA anymore. I just had a realization this morning that I wanted to share with you guys. And this message is for all of you and also for you Brian Hardin. I’ve been listening since 2009…2008…I can’t really remember anymore but I…I in that time I have moved more times than I care to count and changed churches more times that I care to count and gotten married had kids currently going through a divorce and I haven’t necessarily been on the DAB the entire time but this is literally the most consistent community I’ve been a part of in my life and has been a part of my walk with Christ for the majority of my walk with Christ, all 20 something years now of it. And that’s just crazy, valuable, crazy amazing. And I just love all of you guys and I’m thanking God for all of you this morning. So, I love you guys. Thank you, God bless you, all of you, every one of you.

Good morning my DAB family this is Judy from Georgia. This goes out to Running Desperately to Jesus. I heard your message today and I feel the same. It’s very hard when you’re alone and you try to fit in in groups and it doesn’t work out. I talk to some of the ladies at church after church, but it never goes beyond that. I pray every day that if there’s someone for me to minister to or that can minister to me, do Bible studies with, have a friend, someone just to talk to. So, I pray every day that God will put that person in my life at the time that he chooses. So, that’s what we have to tell ourselves, that God is with us all the time. He is always there to talk to and depend on. And though we may feel lonely those are the times I usually try to pick up the Bible or do one of my Bible studies and immerse myself in that. So, please anyone out there feeling the same way, please know that if you pray God will put a person in your life that supposed to be there when the time is right. Have a great day everyone. I love you all.

Hello Daily Audio Bible family this is Tierra from Texas calling in because I heard a woman who was praying through a very shaky and a very worrisome voice to find a new facility for her mother who is suffering from dementia. She’s called in before and I remember hurrying her the first time and just hoping that, you know, whatever she was going through that God would keep her and protect her and I want the same thing now. I pray that in your worry and in your seeking that God will strengthen you and guide you to the right place where your mother can be safe and protected and taken care of and ultimately in the hands of our Father and our Lord and Savior. I pray that you’re comfortable leaving her somewhere where you can trust the workers and the caretakers and that wherever she ends up that you bless the hands of the caretakers and nurses and that you just Father steady the heart of her…her daughter who called in and asked for prayer. Change is always scary and it’s something that I know we all have issues with making decisions. So, I pray that, you know, you can help make a decision in her uncertainty, you know, keep her certain that You are protector, provider, and comfort. And I pray for just prosperity and peace and safety and a clear head and a clear mind in these next coming months. And I pray in the name of Jesus that You just fulfill the prayers of her and her mother. These blessings I asked in Your son’s holy name Jesus. Amen. Be blessed happy Wednesday.

Hello DAB my name is Gin in Min which is short for Virginia in Minnesota. I’m calling on the 10th of November and response to a caller Tammy from the Adirondacks who called on the 9th. She’s nine months in remission from ovarian cancer, complete hysterectomy last year, and menopause depression. Has a previous history of depression and anxiety and she’s going to the Lord to be healed. She said she cries often. Her husband is in progressive stage of MS and she’s currently taking care of him. Her meds cannot be changed, her liver enzymes are elevated. Her tears she says never stop. She needs to know that God loves her. And I want to tell you miss Tammy that your prayer request hit my heart and my soul and I loved you at that moment. I never knew you and yet I loved you. And I want to pray for you right now. God, I come before Your throne, and I carry my sister Sam Tammy in my hands to Your throne of grace with confidence. I pray for Tammy. I want her to know that You are the God who sees her. You are the God who heals her, You are the God who is her constant companion. You are the God who heals, who forgives. And I lift her up to You and I ask that You strengthen her inner man, her emotional self, that You would make those connections, her neurological connections, that You would remove her depression and instead replace it with extreme gratitude and peace that passes all understanding, that her husband will be a source of encouragement though he has an MS situation himself, that You would provide friends and surprises and gifts along her path that are gifts from You and she knows they’re gives from You even if it’s a bird in the window or a __  You would let her know that You love her in the biggest ways and in the smallest ways. I love you, Tammy. Bye. Your friend Gin in…

Hello DAB family my name is Mikey I’m a first-time caller I’ve been listening to DAB for about three or four years now. The reason I’m calling is me and my wife had a baby this summer her name is Maren and we've…she’s been going through some tests, and we found out she has auditory neuropathy and she is hard of hearing. And, yeah, we would just like prayer for her. Either she gets better or as along the way that we have wisdom and strength to get through just the learning process that that’s going to be and for her as she grows up that she can have strength to grow and learn. And, yeah, just that her development goes really well. Yeah. Thanks guys.
