Ezekiel 3:16-6:14

A Watchman for Israel

¹⁶^(A)And at the end of seven days, the word of the Lord came to me: ¹⁷^(B)“Son of man, ^(C)I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall ^(D)give them warning from me. ¹⁸^(E)If I say to the wicked, ^(F)‘You shall surely die,’ ^(G)and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, in order to save his life, that wicked person ^(H)shall die for^[a] his iniquity, ^(I)but his blood I will require at your hand. ¹⁹^(J)But if you warn the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness, or from his wicked way, he shall die for his iniquity, ^(K)but you ^(L)will have delivered your soul. ²⁰^(M)Again, if a righteous person turns from his righteousness and commits injustice, ^(N)and I lay a stumbling block before him, he shall die. ^(O)Because you have not warned him, he shall die for his sin, ^(P)and his righteous deeds that he has done shall not be remembered, ^(Q)but his blood I will require at your hand. ²¹But if you warn the righteous person not to sin, and he does not sin, he shall surely live, because he took warning, and you will have delivered your soul.”

²²^(R)And the hand of the Lord was upon me there. And he said to me, “Arise, go out into ^(S)the valley,^[b] and ^(T)there I will speak with you.” ²³So I arose and went out into the valley, and behold, ^(U)the glory of the Lord stood there, like the glory that I had seen ^(V)by the Chebar canal, ^(W)and I fell on my face. ²⁴^(X)But the Spirit entered into me and set me on my feet, and he spoke with me and said to me, “Go, shut yourself within your house. ²⁵And you, O son of man, behold, ^(Y)cords will be placed upon you, and you shall be bound with them, so that you cannot go out among the people. ²⁶And I will make your tongue cling to the roof of your mouth, so that ^(Z)you shall be mute and unable to reprove them, ^(AA)for they are a rebellious house. ²⁷^(AB)But when I speak with you, I will open your mouth, and you shall say to them, ^(AC)‘Thus says the Lord God.’ ^(AD)He who will hear, let him hear; and he who will refuse to hear, let him refuse, for they are a rebellious house.

The Siege of Jerusalem Symbolized

4 “And you, ^(AE)son of man, ^(AF)take a brick and lay it before you, and engrave on it a city, even Jerusalem. ²^(AG)And put siegeworks against it, ^(AH)and build a siege wall against it, ^(AI)and cast up a mound against it. Set camps also against it, ^(AJ)and plant battering rams against it all around. ³And you, take an iron griddle, and place it as an iron wall between you and the city; ^(AK)and set your face toward it, ^(AL)and let it be in a state of siege, and press the siege against it. This is ^(AM)a sign for the house of Israel.

⁴“Then lie on your left side, and place the punishment^[c] of the house of Israel upon it. For the number of the days that you lie on it, ^(AN)you shall bear their punishment. ⁵For I assign to you a number of days, ^(AO)390 days, ^(AP)equal to the number of the years of their punishment. ^(AQ)So long shall you bear ^(AR)the punishment of the house of Israel. ⁶And when you have completed these, you shall lie down a second time, but on your right side, and ^(AS)bear ^(AT)the punishment of the house of Judah. ^(AU)Forty days I assign you, a day for each year. ⁷^(AV)And you shall set your face toward the siege of Jerusalem, ^(AW)with your arm bared, and you shall prophesy against the city. ⁸And behold, ^(AX)I will place cords upon you, so that you cannot turn from one side to the other, till you have completed ^(AY)the days of your siege.

⁹“And you, take wheat and barley, beans and lentils, millet and emmer,^[d] and put them into a single vessel and make your ^(AZ)bread from them. ^(BA)During the number of days that you lie on your side, ^(BB)390 days, you shall eat it. ¹⁰And your food that you eat shall be ^(BC)by weight, ^(BD)twenty shekels^[e] a day; from day to day^[f] you shall eat it. ¹¹And water you shall drink ^(BE)by measure, the sixth part of a hin;^[g] from day to day you shall drink. ¹²And you shall eat it as a barley cake, baking it ^(BF)in their sight on human dung.” ¹³And the Lord said, “Thus shall the people of Israel eat ^(BG)their bread unclean, among the nations where I will drive them.” ¹⁴Then I said, ^(BH)“Ah, Lord God! Behold, I have never defiled myself.^[h] ^(BI)From my youth up till now I have never eaten ^(BJ)what died of itself or was torn by beasts, nor has ^(BK)tainted meat come into my mouth.” ¹⁵Then he said to me, “See, I assign to you cow's dung instead of human dung, on which you may prepare your bread.” ¹⁶Moreover, he said to me, ^(BL)“Son of man, behold, ^(BM)I will break the supply^[i] of bread in Jerusalem. They shall eat bread ^(BN)by weight and with anxiety, and they shall drink water ^(BO)by measure and in dismay. ¹⁷I will do this that they may lack bread and water, and ^(BP)look at one another in dismay, and ^(BQ)rot away because of their punishment.

Jerusalem Will Be Destroyed

5 “And you, ^(BR)O son of man, take a ^(BS)sharp sword. Use it as ^(BT)a barber's razor and ^(BU)pass it over your head and your beard. Then take balances for weighing and divide the hair. ²^(BV)A third part you shall burn in the fire ^(BW)in the midst of the city, ^(BX)when the days of the siege are completed. And a third part you shall take and strike with the sword all around the city. ^(BY)And a third part you shall scatter to the wind, and ^(BZ)I will unsheathe the sword after them. ³^(CA)And you shall take from these a small number and bind them in the skirts of your robe. ⁴^(CB)And of these again you shall take some and cast them into the midst of the fire and burn them in the fire. From there a fire will come out into all the house of Israel.

⁵“Thus says the Lord God: ^(CC)This is Jerusalem. I have set her ^(CD)in the center of the nations, with countries all around her. ⁶And she has rebelled against my rules by doing wickedness ^(CE)more than the nations, and against my statutes more than ^(CF)the countries all around her; for they have rejected my rules and have not walked in my statutes. ⁷Therefore thus says the Lord God: Because you are ^(CG)more turbulent than the nations that are all around you, ^(CH)and have not walked in my statutes or obeyed my rules, ^(CI)and have not^[j] even acted according to the rules of the nations that are all around you, ⁸therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, I, even I, ^(CJ)am against you. ^(CK)And I will execute judgments^[k] in your midst ^(CL)in the sight of the nations. ⁹And because of all your abominations I will do with you ^(CM)what I have never yet done, and the like of which I will never do again. ¹⁰Therefore ^(CN)fathers shall eat their sons in your midst, and sons shall eat their fathers. ^(CO)And I will execute judgments on you, ^(CP)and any of you who survive I will scatter to all the winds. ¹¹Therefore, ^(CQ)as I live, declares the Lord God, surely, ^(CR)because you have defiled my sanctuary ^(CS)with all your detestable things and with all your ^(CT)abominations, ^(CU)therefore I will withdraw.^[l] ^(CV)My eye will not spare, and I will have no pity. ¹²^(CW)A third part of you shall die of pestilence and be consumed with famine in your midst; ^(CX)a third part shall fall by the sword all around you; ^(CY)and a third part I will scatter to all the winds and will unsheathe the sword after them.

¹³^(CZ)“Thus shall my anger spend itself, and I will vent my fury upon them and satisfy myself. And they shall know that ^(DA)I am the Lord—that I have spoken in my jealousy—^(DB)when I spend my fury upon them. ¹⁴Moreover, I will make you ^(DC)a desolation and ^(DD)an object of reproach among ^(DE)the nations all around you and in the sight of all who pass by. ¹⁵You shall be^[m] a reproach and a taunt, a warning ^(DF)and a horror, to ^(DG)the nations all around you, ^(DH)when I execute judgments on you in anger and fury, and ^(DI)with furious rebukes—I am the Lord; I have spoken— ¹⁶when I send against you^[n] ^(DJ)the deadly arrows of famine, arrows for destruction, which I will send to destroy you, and when I bring more and more famine upon ^(DK)you and break your supply^[o] of bread. ¹⁷I will send famine and ^(DL)wild beasts against you, ^(DM)and they will rob you of your children. Pestilence and ^(DN)blood shall pass through you, and I will bring the sword upon you. I am the Lord; I have spoken.”

Judgment Against Idolatry

6 The word of the Lord came to me: ²^(DO)“Son of man, ^(DP)set your face toward ^(DQ)the mountains of Israel, and ^(DR)prophesy against them, ³and say, ^(DS)You mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord God! Thus says the Lord God to ^(DT)the mountains and ^(DU)the hills, to ^(DV)the ravines and the valleys: Behold, I, even I, will bring a sword upon you, ^(DW)and I will destroy your high places. ⁴^(DX)Your altars shall become desolate, and your ^(DY)incense altars shall be broken, and I will cast down your slain before your idols. ⁵^(DZ)And I will lay the dead bodies of the people of Israel before their idols, ^(EA)and I will scatter your bones around your altars. ⁶Wherever you dwell, ^(EB)the cities shall be waste and ^(EC)the high places ruined, so that your altars will be waste and ruined,^[p] your idols broken and destroyed, your ^(ED)incense altars cut down, and your works wiped out. ⁷And the slain shall fall in your midst, and you shall know that I am the Lord.

⁸^(EE)“Yet I will leave some of you alive. When you have among the nations ^(EF)some who escape the sword, and when you are scattered through the countries, ⁹then those of you who escape ^(EG)will remember me among the nations where they are carried captive, how ^(EH)I have been broken over their whoring heart that has departed from me and over their eyes ^(EI)that go whoring after their idols. ^(EJ)And they will be loathsome in their own sight for the evils that they have committed, for all their abominations. ¹⁰And they shall know that I am the Lord. ^(EK)I have not said in vain that I would do this evil to them.”

¹¹Thus says the Lord God: ^(EL)“Clap your hands ^(EM)and stamp your foot and say, Alas, because of all the evil abominations of the house of Israel, ^(EN)for they shall fall by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence. ¹²^(EO)He who is far off shall die of pestilence, and he who is near shall fall by the sword, and he who is left and is preserved shall die of famine. ^(EP)Thus I will spend my fury upon them. ¹³And you shall know that I am the Lord, ^(EQ)when their slain lie among their idols around their altars, ^(ER)on every high hill, ^(ES)on all the mountaintops, ^(ET)under every green tree, and under ^(EU)every leafy oak, wherever ^(EV)they offered pleasing aroma to all their idols. ¹⁴And ^(EW)I will stretch out my hand against them and ^(EX)make the land desolate and waste, ^(EY)in all their dwelling places, from the wilderness to ^(EZ)Riblah.^[q] Then ^(FA)they will know that I am the Lord.”

Hebrews 4

4 Therefore, while the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us fear lest any of you should seem ^(A)to have failed to reach it. ²For good news came to us just as to them, but the message they heard did not benefit them, because ^(B)they were not united by faith with those who listened.^[a] ³For we who have believed enter that rest, as he has said,

^(C)“As I swore in my wrath,
‘They shall not enter my rest,’”

Jesus the Great High Priest

¹⁴Since then we have ^(Q)a great high priest ^(R)who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, ^(S)let us hold fast our confession. ¹⁵For we do not have a high priest ^(T)who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been ^(U)tempted as we are, ^(V)yet without sin. ¹⁶^(W)Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Ezekiel 1:1-3:15, Hebrews 3:1-19, Psalm 104:1-23, Proverbs 26:24-26

Today is the first day of November, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian, welcome to the 11th month of the year. Today is the 305th day of our journey which contains 365 days in it and seems like we reach this point, the 11th month of the year and by the time this month is over its Christmas around the world and we’re all focused in on the holiday season. We’ve already talked about that and we’ll talk about it some more, we’ve already talked about that and determined what we’re going to do is finish strong and all we have to do in order to do that is show up, show up every day as we continue our journey through the Scriptures and we are led once again into a bit of a transition. So yesterday, we concluded the book of Lamentations, which today leads us as we begin a new month into the book of Ezekiel.

Introduction to the Book of Ezekiel:

And so, let’s just kind of get a lay of the land or orient ourselves because we are moving into a new book with a new voice but we are still in this Babylonian exile time. So, we went through Jeremiah and all of the warnings and prophetic instructions from God, we saw nobody paying attention to those warnings, we saw those prophecies then come true and then we mourned it in the book of Lamentations. So now, we’re in a new month and moving into a new book known as Ezekiel but we’re not changing much in terms of time like, we haven’t jumped a couple centuries, we’re in the same time period. Ezekiel was an educated person deeply loyal to God, deeply loyal to God’s people. He came from a priestly family, and often he was instructed to symbolically prophesy or act out a prophecy in some sort of metaphorical or literal way, not unlike Jeremiah and they were prophesying at the same time. So, Jeremiah prophesied a bit before Ezekiel, but then also was prophesying at the same time as Ezekiel. They were just prophesying from two sides of the same story. Jeremiah was prophesying from Jerusalem and so, we were there, we were there watching all of this go down as we read through Jeremiah. Ezekiel’s prophecies were from the other side. They were from exile in Babylon. There was a lot going on in the world at that time. So, the Babylonian empire conquered the Assyrian Empire and if we just remember, it was the Assyrian Empire that conquered the northern kingdom of Israel and took them into exile where those 10 tribes disappeared. So now, the Assyrian Empire’s conquered by the Babylonian Empire, so now these superpowers, Babylon and Egypt, their clashing with each other and their clashing essentially in the land of ancient Israel because that little strip of land that was like to control, that is to control the trade routes between continents and all of the different countries that we just talked about, they all had interaction with ancient Judah or Israel. Like, at one point or another Israel was subdued by all these different empires it’s just that the city of Jerusalem was still standing. So, if they fell into a situation where they were about to be utterly destroyed than they would make some kind of treaty, pay tribute, be a vassal, essentially a, sort of a country with allegiance to another and we read about this when we read Kings and Chronicles, just the back and forth of all that happened and we read, as we read through the Kings, the decline, generational decline in leadership among the people and idolatry and just all of the stuff that we’ve gone through. It has led to this place where when Babylon destroys Jerusalem the ancient Israel of the Bible that we’ve read so far, it is over. So, it’s 597 BC, the Babylonians, they conquer Jerusalem and that’s when exile begins. So, they begin deporting people into different regions of the Babylonian empire. Ezekiel was among those first to go into exile. So, then Babylon puts it like a vassal king, a king to kind of rule and reign but not as a sovereign unto himself, as a client king for Babylon and that kings name was Zedekiah. And Zedekiah ended up rebelling against the Babylonians. Even though Jeremiah is prophesying against that kind of action and gives totally different advice. The rebellion still happens. And so, the Babylonians come back. So, in 588, they come back and lay siege, takes two years and then the walls are breached and yeah Jerusalem is utterly and completely destroyed. So, from the time of the Babylonians take over until the time that Jerusalem is completely destroyed is a little over a decade. Ezekiel, during this time, is exiled in Babylon and he prophesies of the destruction of Jerusalem. Jeremiah is prophesying the same thing from Jerusalem. And as we know those prophecies came true. Jerusalem was destroyed which is tremendously sad but after that, after the destruction then the prophetic utterances from Ezekiel become some of the most hope filled messages that we can find in the Bible. There’s also some interesting features about Ezekiel because of his visions. So, he has visions and they almost feel like science fiction in a way, especially when you think of them coming from thousands of years ago, there just cinematic. There are other places in Scripture that are like this, for example the book of Daniel or the book of Revelation. And so, because it’s so highly symbolic, those that study eschatology, the study of the end of all things or the end times, certainly use Ezekiel as part of that study along with Daniel and Revelation, many of the other prophecies in the Bible. So, as we approached some of that territory in Ezekiel, we can decide, I’m gonna figure this out. Right, just sit here and intently listen and try to sort out what the symbology is, we would be entering into something that’s been going on for a very, very long time and has been argued about for a very, very long time and that’s fine. But if eschatology isn’t something we’re seeking a degree in then we might want to just let the words, the metaphors, the imagery come to us. Just allow it to wash over us, and allow the Holy Spirit just see what it’s bringing up inside of us as we encounter those portions of Scripture. Let’s dive in, let’s get going. We’re reading from the English Standard Version this week, Ezekiel chapter 1 verse 1 through 3 verse 15.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word. We thank You for the gift and we thank You for these 300+ days now that we have been together on this journey. We thank You for this new territory that we’re moving into in the book of Ezekiel and we open our hearts, we open our hands to You. We ask that You lead us, even as these next week’s how they start speeding, speeding us toward the conclusion of a year and things get more busy. We thank You that we have this anchor. So, we invite You, Holy Spirit, come, lead us into all truth, we become aware of Your presence that is always near us, always available. So, we seek it, come Jesus we pray in Your mighty name we ask. Amen.

Hi friends this is Erin in Michigan, I’m a teacher. I teach seniors in high school and on Tuesday a student brought a gun to school and a lot of kids saw it on the bus and one junior high student went in and told and the rest just kept it to themselves. So, then yesterday there were three fights, two of them before 9:30 AM, and O friends, are students are crying out, every behavior is a communication and their telling us that they don’t feel safe and that they don’t feel loved and that they don’t belong. So, family if you’ll pray with me, Father God, Father God, I cry out to you, our children, are in crisis. Our children are faced with the world that says snitches get stiches and that fighting is the way to go and fighting is the way to get that respect and that fear and Lord God we just pray over our students, we pray over our teachers our administrators Lord God our families, moms and dads, aunts and uncles, grandmas and grandpas, Lord God and I just lift them up to You. Hello my DAB family. This is Terry the Trucker. Quick praise report, new jobs going great. No stress, I can go at my own pace, I can work whenever I want to work as long as I do ten loads a day or 10 loads a week, 620 miles a day, I believe it was 620/640, I love it. Anyway, prayer request: called in about my sister, she’s taking care of her grandbabies. My nephew and his wife, they’ve been separated for I think about two years now, they’ve both been on meth. He was arrested today October 27th around 10am. The charge was manufacturing and delivering of a controlled substance, over two grams, under 4. He runs around a really sketchy crew. We’re praying that it’s not true, I mean, yes he is making bad decisions, yes he is on meth, he can’t be around his kids, my mom’s too old to be doing this, my sisters just at her wits end. Sisters name is Tina, moms name is Nellie, my nephews name is Brandon. So, I just ask you all to lift him up in prayer, pray that he can, I pray it ain’t true, pray that he can get his life straight, comfort for my mom and my sister, financial support. And always remember this is Terry the Trucker and I’m praying for you as I travel up and down these Texas highways. Ya’ll have a blessed one.

Hey, this is Tear from Texas. I wanted to just give a little praise report for my father. He basically has been going to visit my grandma again in my grandparents’ house. My grandpa, his dad passed away about a year ago and it had been very hard for him to cope with his death. And just, you know, cope with his house being different now and him going over there and him not being there. And I am just glad that in the same time that my mom and I are praying for him is healing that he’s taken the first steps to healing. I don’t think anyone can ever truly heal from losing a parent and I sure don’t want to think about that right now, but I was glad that as an adult you know, God allows us to still heal from things that happened to us as a child, things that happened to us as adults. And I just pray that every family new and old can heal from trauma, from you know, toxic habits that plagued a lot of households. New and old households can you know, stop the cycle of those toxic habits of those behaviors that you know, just come with being human. We hurt people or we forget that we hurt people, I just pray that every person in a family within Christ can conscientiously grow from there past, from their mistakes and be able to speak out and about their hurt and their pain and that we can all heal and grow and learn within Christ. Hi this is Victorious Soldier just calling to pray with some of the DABers. I wanted to tell you all thanks so much for the prayers you’ve given me, you’ve been such a tremendous blessing, you’ve lifted my spirit and my soul and I just want to say thank you. I love you all so much you’re such a, such a precious group of friends and safe people of God. And I just pray that life and savior for everyone. Whatever your need that God has it. I wanna pray for a couple of the DABers also. I wanna pray for Janet regarding her husband and I wanna pray for Kristen Fletcher and her son Paul. Good morning, this is for Tom and Susan from Phoenix, Arizona. From the October 28th broadcast requesting prayer for restoration of his marriage. My heart hurt when I heard the pain in your voice Tom and I do pray that God heals your marriage, restores that marriage. Just stay faithful in His word, continue to pray and hope and pray that He heals you and I will continue to pray for you. A Scripture to the member is, that I pray that the God of hope fills you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit Romans 15:13 and then just remember He does heal the broken hearted. Ezekiel in Babylon

1 ^(A)In the thirtieth year, in the fourth month, on the fifth day of the month, as I was among the exiles by ^(B)the Chebar canal, ^(C)the heavens were opened, and I saw ^(D)visions of God.^[a] ²On the fifth day of the month (it was ^(E)the fifth year of ^(F)the exile of King Jehoiachin), ³the word of the Lord came to Ezekiel ^(G)the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by ^(H)the Chebar canal, and ^(I)the hand of the Lord was upon him there.

The Glory of the Lord

⁴As I looked, behold, ^(J)a stormy wind came ^(K)out of the north, and a great cloud, with ^(L)brightness around it, and fire flashing forth continually, and in the midst of the fire, ^(M)as it were gleaming metal.^[b] ⁵And from the midst of it came the likeness of ^(N)four living creatures. ^(O)And this was their appearance: they had a human likeness, ⁶^(P)but each had four faces, and each of them had four wings. ⁷Their legs were straight, and the soles of their feet were like the sole of a calf's foot. And they sparkled ^(Q)like burnished bronze. ⁸Under their wings ^(R)on their four sides ^(S)they had human hands. And the four had their faces and their wings thus: ⁹their wings touched one another. ^(T)Each one of them went straight forward, ^(U)without turning as they went. ¹⁰As for the likeness of their faces, ^(V)each had a human face. ¹⁵^(AE)Now as I looked at the living creatures, I saw a wheel on the earth beside the living creatures, one for each of the four of them.^[d] ¹⁶^(AF)As for the appearance of the wheels and their construction: their appearance was like ^(AG)the gleaming of beryl. ^(AH)And the four had the same likeness, their appearance and construction being as it were a wheel within a wheel. ¹⁷^(AI)When they went, they went ^(AJ)in any of their four directions^[e] ^(AK)without turning as they went. ¹⁸And their rims were tall and awesome, ^(AL)and the rims of all four were full of eyes all around. ¹⁹^(AM)And when the living creatures went, the wheels went beside them; ^(AN)and when the living creatures rose from the earth, the wheels rose. ²⁰^(AO)Wherever the spirit wanted to go, they went, and the wheels rose along with them, ^(AP)for the spirit of the living creatures^[f] was in the wheels. ²¹^(AQ)When those went, these went; and when those stood, these stood; ^(AR)and when those rose from the earth, the wheels rose along with them, ^(AS)for the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels.

²²Over the heads of the living creatures there was ^(AT)the likeness of an expanse, shining like awe-inspiring ^(AU)crystal, spread out above their heads. ²³And under the expanse their wings were ^(AV)stretched out straight, one toward another. ^(AW)And each creature had two wings covering its body. ²⁴And when they went, I heard the sound of their wings ^(AX)like the sound of many waters, like ^(AY)the sound of the ^(AZ)Almighty, a sound of tumult ^(BA)like the sound of an army. When they stood still, they let down their wings. ²⁵And there came a voice from above ^(BB)the expanse over their heads. When they stood still, they let down their wings.

²⁶And above the expanse over their heads there was ^(BC)the likeness of a throne, ^(BD)in appearance ^(BE)like sapphire;^[g] and seated above the likeness of a throne was ^(BF)a likeness with a human appearance. ²⁷And ^(BG)upward from what had the appearance of his waist I saw as it were ^(BH)gleaming metal, like the appearance of fire enclosed all around. And downward from what had the appearance of his waist I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and ^(BI)there was brightness around him.^[h] ²⁸Like the appearance of ^(BJ)the bow that is in the cloud on the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness all around.

Such was the appearance of the likeness of ^(BK)the glory of the Lord. And when I saw it, ^(BL)I fell on my face, and I heard the voice of one speaking.

Ezekiel's Call

2 And he said to me, ^(BM)“Son of man,^[i] ^(BN)stand on your feet, and I will speak with you.” ²And as he spoke to me, ^(BO)the Spirit entered into me and ^(BP)set me on my feet, and I heard him speaking to me. ³And he said to me, “Son of man, I send you to the people of Israel, to ^(BQ)nations of rebels, who have rebelled against me. ^(BR)They and their fathers have transgressed against me to this very day. ⁴The descendants also are ^(BS)impudent and stubborn: I send you to them, and you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God.’ ⁵And ^(BT)whether they hear or refuse to hear (for they are ^(BU)a rebellious house) ^(BV)they will know that a prophet has been among them. ⁶And you, son of man, ^(BW)be not afraid of them, nor be afraid of their words, ^(BX)though briers and thorns are with you and you sit on ^(BY)scorpions.^[j] Be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, for they are a rebellious house. ⁷And you shall speak my words to them, ^(BZ)whether they hear or refuse to hear, for they are a rebellious house.

⁸“But you, son of man, hear what I say to you. ^(CA)Be not rebellious like that rebellious house; open your mouth and ^(CB)eat what I give you.” ⁹And when I looked, behold, ^(CC)a hand was stretched out to me, and behold, ^(CD)a scroll of a book was in it. ¹⁰And he spread it before me. And it had writing ^(CE)on the front and on the back, and there were written on it words of lamentation and mourning and woe.

3 And he said to me, ^(CF)“Son of man, eat whatever you find here. ^(CG)Eat this scroll, and go, speak to the house of Israel.” ²So I opened my mouth, and he gave me this scroll to eat. ³And he said to me, “Son of man, feed your belly with this scroll that I give you and fill your stomach with it.” ^(CH)Then I ate it, and it was in my mouth ^(CI)as sweet as honey.

⁴And he said to me, ^(CJ)“Son of man, go to the house of Israel and speak with my words to them. ⁵For you are not sent to a people of foreign speech and a hard language, but to the house of Israel— ⁶not to many peoples of foreign speech and a hard language, whose words you cannot understand. ^(CK)Surely, if I sent you to such, they would listen to you. ⁷^(CL)But the house of Israel will not be willing to listen to you, for they are not willing to listen to me: because all the house of Israel ^(CM)have a hard forehead and a stubborn heart. ⁸^(CN)Behold, I have made your face as hard as their faces, and your forehead as hard as their foreheads. ⁹Like ^(CO)emery harder than flint have I made your forehead. ^(CP)Fear them not, nor be dismayed at their looks, for they are a rebellious house.” ¹⁰Moreover, he said to me, “Son of man, ^(CQ)all my words that I shall speak to you receive ^(CR)in your heart, and hear with your ears. ¹¹And go to the exiles, ^(CS)to your people, and speak to them and say to them, ^(CT)‘Thus says the Lord God,’ ^(CU)whether they hear or refuse to hear.”

¹²^(CV)Then the Spirit^[k] lifted me up, and I heard behind me the voice^[l] of ^(CW)a great earthquake: “Blessed be the glory of the Lord from its place!” ¹³It was the sound of the wings of ^(CX)the living creatures as they touched one another, and the sound of the wheels beside them, and the sound of ^(CY)a great earthquake. ¹⁴^(CZ)The Spirit lifted me up and took me away, and I went in bitterness in the heat of my spirit, the ^(DA)hand of the Lord being strong upon me. ¹⁵^(DB)And I came to the exiles at Tel-abib, who were dwelling ^(DC)by the Chebar canal, and I sat where they were dwelling.^[m] And ^(DD)I sat there ^(DE)overwhelmed among them ^(DF)seven days.

Hebrews 3

Jesus Greater Than Moses

A Rest for the People of God

⁷Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says,

⁸do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion,
on the day of testing in the wilderness,
⁹where your fathers put me to the test
and saw my works for ^(L)forty years.
¹⁰Therefore I was provoked with that generation,
and said, ‘They always go astray in their heart;
they have not known my ways.’
¹¹^(M)As I swore in my wrath,
‘They shall not enter my rest.’”

¹²Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from ^(N)the living God. ¹³But ^(O)exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by ^(P)the deceitfulness of sin. ¹⁴For we have come to share in Christ, ^(Q)if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end. ¹⁵As it is said,

^(R)“Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”

¹⁶For ^(S)who were those who heard and yet rebelled? Was it not ^(T)all those who left Egypt led by Moses? ¹⁷And with whom was he provoked for forty years?
