The Daily Audio Bible Reading for Sunday November 7, 2021 (NIV)

Ezekiel 16:42-17:24

42 Then I will lay to rest my wrath against you, and my jealousy will turn away from you. I will be calm and no longer be angry.

43 Because you[a] did not remember the days of your youth, and you made me angry during all these actions, I myself will certainly bring your conduct down upon your head. That is the declaration of the Lord God! Haven’t you added lewdness to all your abominations? 44 Hear this! Everyone will speak this proverb about you: “Like mother, like daughter.” 45 You are a true daughter of your mother, who despises her husband and her children, and you are a true sister of your sisters, who despise their husbands and their children. The mother of all of you was a Hittite and your father was an Amorite. 46 Your older sister is Samaria, who along with her daughters[b] lives north of you, and your younger sister, who lives south of you along with her daughters, is Sodom. 47 You did not merely walk in their ways or act according to their abominations, since in a very short time you became more depraved in all your ways than they were. 48 As I live, says the Lord God, your sister Sodom along with her daughters has not done what you have done along with your daughters. 49 Look, this was the guilt of your sister Sodom: Pride, overindulgence in food, and complacent ease were the way for her and her daughters, and she failed to strengthen the hands[c] of the poor and needy. 50 They were haughty, and they committed abominations in my presence, and so I removed them when I saw it. 51 Samaria did not sin half as much as you did. You multiplied your abominations more than they did. You made your sisters appear righteous by all your abominations which you committed. 52 So you must bear your disgrace, because by your sins you appeared to plead your sisters’ case for them. Because of your sins—you acted more repulsively than they did—they appear more righteous than you. So you must be ashamed and bear your disgrace, because you made your sisters appear righteous. 53 I will bring about their restoration—the restoration of Sodom and her daughters, and the restoration of Samaria and her daughters, as well as your complete restoration in their midst, 54 so that you will bear your disgrace, and you will be ashamed of everything you did when you appeared to give them comfort. 55 Your sister Sodom and her daughters will return to their former state, and your sister Samaria and her daughters will return to their former state, and you and your daughters will return to your former state. 56 Wasn’t your sister Sodom a subject for gossip in your mouth during the days when you were so proud, 57 in the days before your own wickedness was exposed? So now in the same way you are subjected to scorn by the daughters of Edom[d] and by all those around her and by the daughters of the Philistines, who scorn you from all sides. 58 Your lewdness and your abominations, you must now bear, declares the Lord.

59 So this is what the Lord God says. Shall I do with you just as you have done, you who despised your oath, thereby breaking the covenant? 60 No, just the opposite, I myself will remember my covenant I made with you during the days of your youth, and I will establish an everlasting covenant for you. 61 Then you will remember your ways and be ashamed when you receive your sisters who are older than you, in addition to those who are younger than you, and I will give them to you as daughters, and not outside your covenant.[e] 62 I myself will establish my covenant with you. Then you will know that I am the Lord, 63 so that you may remember and be ashamed and never again open your mouth because of your disgrace, when I make atonement for you for all that you have done, declares the Lord God.

The Parable About the Cedar Sprig

17 The word of the Lord came to me. Son of man, present a challenging parable to the house of Israel. Tell the Israelites that this is what the Lord God says.

A great eagle with powerful wings, with long feathers, and covered with multicolored plumes, came to Lebanon. He took the tip of a cedar. He plucked off the newest shoot at the very top of the tree, and he carried it to a land of merchants. In a city of traders he planted it.

Then he took seed from the land and planted it in a fertile field, like a new plant beside plentiful water. He set it out like a willow twig, so that it would sprout and become a spreading vine, low to the ground, so that its branches would turn toward the one who planted it[f] and its roots would remain under him. So it became a vine and produced shoots and leaves and branches.

But there was another great eagle with powerful wings and many plumes. Look at how this vine bent its roots toward him! From the bed where it had been planted, it stretched out its branches toward him, so that he could water it. It had been planted in good soil beside plentiful water to grow branches, to bear fruit, and to become a magnificent vine.

Tell them this is what the Lord God says. Will it thrive? Won’t he pull up its roots and strip off its fruit so that it dries up? Won’t all its new growth dry up? No strong arm or mighty army will be needed to pluck it by its roots. 10 Although it has been planted, will it thrive? When the east wind touches it, won’t it shrivel up completely? On the very bed where it had sprouted, it will wither away.

11 The word of the Lord came to me. 12 Tell this to the rebellious house.

Don’t you know what these things mean? Tell them this. You saw how the king of Babylon came to Jerusalem. He took its king and its officials and brought them back to Babylon with him.

13 Then he took a member from the seed of the royal family, made a covenant[g] with him, and put him under an oath. He took away the leading men of the land 14 so that it would be a lowly kingdom, so that it would not rebel but would keep the covenant with him, so that it could survive. 15 But the prince[h] rebelled against that king by sending his envoys to Egypt to obtain horses and a large army. Will he thrive? Can someone who does such things escape? Can he break a covenant and still escape? 16 As I live, says the Lord God, in the land of the king who made him king,[i] whose oath he despised and whose covenant he broke, in his presence in Babylon, he shall die. 17 He will not be joined by a mighty army or a great force during the war, because Pharaoh will not come when the enemy heaps up ramps and builds siege walls in order to cut off many lives. 18 The king despised the oath by breaking the covenant. Even though he had given his hand to seal the covenant, he did all these things. He shall not escape!

19 Therefore, this is what the Lord God says. As I live, because it was an oath taken in my name that the prince despised, I will bring down on his own head my covenant which he broke. 20 I will spread my net for him, and he will be caught in my trap. I will bring him to Babylon, and I will enter into judgment with him there for the treachery he has committed against me. 21 All his fugitives together with all his troops will fall by the sword, and the rest will be scattered to every wind. Then you will know that I, the Lord, have spoken.

22 This is what the Lord God says. I myself will take part of the tip of the cedar and plant it. From the topmost of its shoots I will pluck off a tender sprig, and I myself will plant it on a high and lofty mountain. 23 On the high mountain of Israel I will plant it. It will produce branches, bear fruit, and become a magnificent cedar. Flying birds of every kind will live under it. In the shelter of its branches they will nest. 24 Then all the trees in the countryside will know that I, the Lord, bring down the high tree and raise up the low tree, that I make the green tree dry up, and I make the dried-up tree blossom. I, the Lord, have spoken, and I will carry it out.

A Better Promise

The main point of what we are saying is this: We have the kind of high priest who has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven. He is the minister in the Holy Place, which is the true sanctuary, which the Lord set up, not man. For every high priest is appointed to offer gifts and sacrifices, and for that reason this priest also needed to have something that he offered.

If this priest were on earth, he would not even be a priest, because there are priests[a] who are designated by the law to offer gifts. They serve at a place that is a copy and shadow of the heavenly sanctuary, a place exactly like that about which Moses was told when he was about to complete the tent.[b] For God said, “See to it that you make everything according to the pattern shown to you on the mountain.”[c]

But now, Jesus has obtained a ministry that is as much superior as the covenant that he mediates is better, because it has been established on the basis of better promises. Indeed, if that first covenant were without fault, there would have been no reason to look for a second. But because God found fault with the people, he said:[d]

Look, the days are coming, says the Lord,
when I will make a new covenant
with the house of Israel
and with the house of Judah.
It will not be like the covenant
that I made with their forefathers
at the time when I took them by the hand
to lead them out of Egypt.
Because they did not remember my covenant,
I ignored them, says the Lord.
10 This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord.

I will put my laws into their mind,
and I will write them on their hearts.
I will be their God,
and they will be my people.
11 Never again will a man teach his fellow citizen[e]
or his brother, saying, “Know the Lord,”
because they will all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest.
12 For I will be merciful in regard to their unrighteousness,
and I will not remember their sins any longer.[f]

13 When God said “new,” he made the first covenant obsolete, and something that is obsolete and growing old is going to disappear.

Psalm 106:13-31

Rebellions in the Wilderness

13 They quickly forgot his deeds.
They did not wait for his plan.
14 Because they were filled with craving in the wilderness,
they challenged God in the wasteland.
15 So he gave them what they asked for,
but he made them sick so they wasted away.

16 Then they grew jealous of Moses in the camp
and of Aaron, who was holy to the Lord.
17 The earth opened up and swallowed Dathan,
and it closed over the followers of Abiram.
18 Then fire burned up their followers.
Flames consumed the wicked.

19 They made a calf at Horeb,
and they bowed down to a thing cast from metal.
20 So they exchanged their Glory for a model of an ox that eats grass.
21 They forgot the God who saved them
by doing great things in Egypt,
22 wonders in the land of Ham,
awesome deeds beside the Red Sea.

God’s Grace

23 So he said he would destroy them.
But Moses, his chosen one, stood between God and the people
to turn aside his wrath, so it did not destroy them.

More Rebellions in the Wilderness

24 Then they refused the pleasant land.
They did not believe his word.
25 They grumbled in their tents.
They did not listen to the voice of the Lord.
26 So he lifted up his hand and swore to them
that he would make them fall in the wilderness,
27 and make their descendants fall among the nations,
and he would scatter them throughout the lands.
28 Then they yoked themselves to the Baal of Peor,
and they ate sacrifices offered to dead gods.
29 They provoked the Lord by their actions,
and a plague broke out among them.
30 But Phinehas stood up and interceded for them,
and the plague was restrained.
31 So this was credited to him as righteousness
for generation after generation, to eternity.

Proverbs 27:7-9

A satisfied appetite refuses honey,
but to a hungry appetite, everything bitter tastes sweet.
A person who wanders from his place
is like a bird that wanders from its nest.
Olive oil and incense bring joy to a heart,
and the sweetness of a friend comes from his sincere advice.[a]

Ezekiel 14:12-16:41, Hebrews 7:18-28, Psalms 106:1-12, Proverbs 27:4-6

Today is the 6th day of November welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I’m Brian it is great to be here with you today as it's…as it is every day. But it’s nice to be here as we round out another one of our weeks together. And we will round out this week by diving back into where we left off and taking the next step forward from there which will lead us back into the book of Ezekiel. Today chapter 14 verse 12 through 16 verse 41.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word. We thank You for another week and we’re starting to kinda count these weeks down as we kinda turn into the last portion of the year here. And we thank You for all that You have revealed, and all that You have shown and taught us and all the ways that You’ve changed us and we look forward to all that You have yet to say to us to speak into our hearts to shift and change us as we continue this journey. We are grateful, grateful for Your kindness and compassion, grateful for Your mercy. Even while we were Your enemies still You came to rescue us. We thank You for the gift of the Scriptures, this tangible gift that tells us the story over and over and over of who You are and who we are and what we could be together in covenantal relationship and where everything is headed. We thank You for this gift. We thank You for the gift of one another, that we might share history and move through the Scriptures together being transformed together, and yet individually in our own way in our own contexts. And that’s not even…that’s not even scratching the surface. Our gratefulness were we to try to recite it in some sort of way, it would go on forever from the depths of our hearts. We don’t deserve this kindness. You have loved us. And, so, we love You. We love You Lord. We love You and we invite You into every aspect of our lives. There is no where we can flee from Your presence, but so often we’re ignoring Your presence and so often we’re close fisted instead of openhanded toward You. We open our hands and our hearts to You. We trust You and we invite You and every aspect of our lives. Holy Spirit come we pray. In the name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.

Hey Rodney, I heard your story on November 2nd. You were talking about how, you know, in the last few months a lot of stuff has changed. And if I’m right I believe you were in your late 30s and you recently gave your life to the Lord recently, that you accepted that grace and mercy and love into your life. And that’s a big deal. So, I wanted to congratulate you on that. Also, you were telling us that you were paralyzed. And I just wanted to pray for your limbs. God, I know You can do the unimaginable, the stuff we only dream. God, I ask that whatever You do that You might allow Rodney to still praise You and to still echo Your power amongst his view of people that he has in this life, that he might be able to spread the good news as it is commanded of us. I also pray for Your wife Rodney as she left You recently. God that You might grant her in the steps that You want her to take and that You might grant Roddy in the steps that You want him to take. Thank You, God. And I just pray the Holy Spirit would just cover this situation. And it’s in Jesus’ name I pray, and I ask. Amen. This is People on the Water from Indiana.

Hi family this is Sally in North Dakota to say I’m calling in today to pray for our brother or Blind Tony. Tony, you called in and was requesting prayer for your family members. A grandson who was arrested for murder. You got a call on your birthday. I’m so sorry for that. You have a daughter who’s got gender confusion and another son with some insecurities. And I totally agree with you Tony, that our adversities, we pray that they will draw them to our Lord and that they would cry out to Him and surrender. So, let’s pray. Heavenly Father I just thank You for Tony. I thank You for his life and all that he has given to us here at the DAB. I am so blessed by his poems and his ministry. Father we just bring his family members to You, and we ask Lord that Your Holy Spirit would continue to draw them, that they may see and know their need for You, that they may be drawn to You by Your love, by Your mercy and grace. Father I thank You for giving Tony peace knowing that he can trust You with these family members and that we would be able to see their salvation come to pass. We love You Jesus. Father I thank You for this family, each and every one of you that call in. There’s been several of you that have been first-time caller and longtime listeners and I appreciate you calling in. It’s nice to hear your voice and getting to know you. Brian and Jill thank you so much for all that you do. I love you so much family. Amen.

Father, we come before Your throne of grace and mercy. We honor and glorify Your Father. We pray that our prayers for one another offer You the ultimate glory Lord. Father as we pray today, we ask Your Kingdom to come into these situations in our lives. God as we lift up blind Tony’s family because we know he lifts up our families to You Father we pray that Your goodness would come into these situations Father, into the hearts into the minds into the schools into the spirits and turn things around in repentance toward You Father. Father we pray this because we know how hard life is and how much harder life is for those that we love when they are without You. Come Lord Jesus. Father we lay down our sins and any forgiveness that we might have, anything that would hinder Your work Father we place it at the foot of the cross and we ask You to cast that into the sea of forgiveness. Lord we ask that You protect us in the battle that will be necessary for this goodness that You are sending to come into our lives. Place the belt of truth around our waist, the breastplate of righteousness on our chest, the good news of the gospel on our feet. Protect us with the shield of faith and in our hands Lord place the sword of the word, that it would pierce our hearts and the hearts of those around us. Place on our heads the helmet of salvation keeping You close in our thoughts and in our minds. Father we love You and we honor You. We pray this in the victorious name of Jesus Christ. Blind Tony Mi admano. I love you. This is Delta Alpha Foxtrot calling from the southern Texas front.

Ezekiel 14:12-16:41

Jerusalem Will Not Be Spared

12 And the word of the Lord came to me: 13 (A)“Son of man, when a land sins against me (B)by acting faithlessly, and I stretch out my hand against it and (C)break its supply[a] of bread and send famine upon it, and (D)cut off from it man and beast, 14 (E)even if these three men, (F)Noah, (G)Daniel, and (H)Job, were in it, (I)they would deliver but their own lives by their righteousness, declares the Lord God.

15 (J)“If I cause wild beasts to pass through the land, and they ravage it, (K)and it be made desolate, so that no one may pass through because of the beasts, 16 even if these three men were in it, (L)as I live, declares the Lord God, they would deliver neither sons nor daughters. They alone would be delivered, but (M)the land would be desolate.

17 “Or (N)if I bring a sword upon that land and say, Let a sword pass through the land, (O)and I cut off from it man and beast, 18 (P)though these three men were in it, as I live, declares the Lord God, they would deliver neither sons nor daughters, but they alone would be delivered.

19 “Or (Q)if I send a pestilence into that land and pour out my wrath upon it with blood, to cut off from it man and beast, 20 even if Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, as I live, declares the Lord God, they would deliver neither son nor daughter. They would deliver but their own lives by their righteousness.

21 “For thus says the Lord God: How much more (R)when I send upon Jerusalem my four disastrous acts of judgment, (S)sword, (T)famine, (U)wild beasts, and (V)pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast! 22 But behold, (W)some survivors will be left in it, sons and daughters who will be brought out; behold, when they come out to you, and (X)you see their ways and their deeds, you will be consoled for the disaster that I have brought upon Jerusalem, for all that I have brought upon it. 23 They will console you, when you see their ways and their deeds, and you shall know that I have not done without cause all that I have done in it, declares the Lord God.”

Jerusalem, a Useless Vine

15 And the word of the Lord came to me: (Y)“Son of man, how does (Z)the wood of the vine surpass any wood, the vine branch that is among the trees of the forest? Is wood taken from it to make anything? Do people take (AA)a peg from it to hang any vessel on it? (AB)Behold, it is given to the fire for fuel. When the fire has consumed both ends of it, and the middle of it is charred, is it useful for anything? (AC)Behold, when it was whole, it was used for nothing. How much less, when the fire has consumed it and it is charred, can it ever be used for anything! Therefore thus says the Lord God: (AD)Like the wood of the vine among the trees of the forest, (AE)which I have given to the fire for fuel, so have I given up the inhabitants of Jerusalem. (AF)And I will set my face against them. Though (AG)they escape from the fire, the fire shall yet consume them, (AH)and you will know that I am the Lord, (AI)when I set my face against them. (AJ)And I will make the land desolate, because (AK)they have acted faithlessly, declares the Lord God.”

The Lord's Faithless Bride

16 Again the word of the Lord came to me: (AL)“Son of man, (AM)make known to Jerusalem her abominations, and say, Thus says the Lord God to Jerusalem: Your origin and your birth are of the land of the Canaanites; your father was an (AN)Amorite and your mother a (AO)Hittite. And as for your birth, (AP)on the day you were born your cord was not cut, nor were you washed with water to cleanse you, nor rubbed with salt, nor wrapped in swaddling cloths. No eye pitied you, to do any of these things to you out of compassion for you, (AQ)but you were cast out on the open field, for you were abhorred, (AR)on the day that you were born.

“And when I passed by you and saw you wallowing (AS)in your blood, I said to you (AT)in your blood, ‘Live!’ I said to you (AU)in your blood, ‘Live!’ (AV)I made you flourish like a plant of the field. And you grew up and became tall (AW)and arrived at full adornment. Your breasts were formed, and your hair had grown; yet (AX)you were naked and bare.

“When I passed by you again and saw you, behold, you were at the age for love, and (AY)I spread the corner of my garment over you and covered your nakedness; I made my vow to you (AZ)and entered into a covenant with you, declares the Lord God, (BA)and you became mine. Then I bathed you with water and washed off your blood from you and (BB)anointed you with oil. 10 (BC)I clothed you also with embroidered cloth and shod you with fine leather. I wrapped you in fine linen and covered you with silk.[b] 11 (BD)And I adorned you with ornaments and (BE)put bracelets on your wrists and a chain on your neck. 12 And I put a ring on your nose and earrings in your ears and a beautiful crown on your head. 13 Thus you were adorned with gold and silver, and your clothing was of fine linen and silk and embroidered cloth. (BF)You ate fine flour and honey and oil. (BG)You grew exceedingly beautiful and advanced to royalty. 14 And (BH)your renown went forth among the nations because of your beauty, for it was perfect through the splendor that I had bestowed on you, declares the Lord God.

15 (BI)“But you trusted in your beauty (BJ)and played the whore[c] because of your renown (BK)and lavished your whorings[d] on any passerby; your beauty[e] became his. 16 You took some of your garments and made for yourself colorful shrines, and on them played the whore. The like has never been, nor ever shall be.[f] 17 You also took (BL)your beautiful jewels of my gold and of my silver, which I had given you, and (BM)made for yourself images of men, and with them played the whore. 18 And you took your embroidered garments to cover them, (BN)and set my oil and my incense before them. 19 (BO)Also my bread that I gave you—(BP)I fed you with fine flour and oil and honey—you set before them for (BQ)a pleasing aroma; and so it was, declares the Lord God. 20 (BR)And you took your sons and your daughters, whom you had borne to me, and (BS)these you sacrificed to them to be devoured. Were your whorings so small a matter 21 that you slaughtered my children and delivered them up as an offering by fire to them? 22 And in all your abominations and your whorings you did not remember (BT)the days of your youth, (BU)when you were naked and bare, wallowing in your blood.

23 “And after all your wickedness (woe, woe to you! declares the Lord God), 24 you built yourself (BV)a vaulted chamber and made yourself a lofty place in every square. 25 At the head of every street (BW)you built your lofty place and made (BX)your beauty an abomination, (BY)offering yourself[g] to any passerby and multiplying your whoring. 26 (BZ)You also played the whore (CA)with the Egyptians, your lustful neighbors, (CB)multiplying your whoring, (CC)to provoke me to anger. 27 Behold, therefore, I stretched out my hand against you (CD)and diminished your allotted portion (CE)and delivered you to the greed of your enemies, (CF)the daughters of the Philistines, who were ashamed of your lewd behavior. 28 (CG)You played the whore also (CH)with the Assyrians, because you were not satisfied; yes, you played the whore with them, and still you were not satisfied. 29 You multiplied your whoring also with the trading land (CI)of Chaldea, and even with this you were not satisfied.

30 “How sick is your heart,[h] declares the Lord God, because you did all these things, the deeds of a brazen prostitute, 31 building your vaulted chamber at the head of every street, and making your lofty place in every square. Yet you were not like a prostitute, (CJ)because you scorned payment. 32 Adulterous wife, who receives strangers instead of her husband! 33 Men give gifts to all prostitutes, (CK)but you gave your gifts to all your lovers, bribing them to come to you from every side with your whorings. 34 So you were different from other women in your whorings. No one solicited you to play the whore, and (CL)you gave payment, while no payment was given to you; therefore you were different.

35 “Therefore, O prostitute, hear the word of the Lord: 36 Thus says the Lord God, Because your lust was poured out and your nakedness uncovered in your whorings with your lovers, and with all your abominable idols, (CM)and because of the blood of your children that you gave to them, 37 therefore, behold, (CN)I will gather all your lovers with whom you took pleasure, all those you loved and (CO)all those you hated. (CP)I will gather them against you from every side (CQ)and will uncover your nakedness to them, that (CR)they may see all your nakedness. 38 (CS)And I will judge you (CT)as women who commit adultery and (CU)shed blood are judged, and bring upon you the blood of wrath and jealousy. 39 And I will give you into their hands, and they shall throw down your (CV)vaulted chamber and break down (CW)your lofty places. (CX)They shall strip you of your clothes and take (CY)your beautiful jewels and leave you (CZ)naked and bare. 40 (DA)They shall bring up a crowd against you, (DB)and they shall stone you and cut you to pieces with their swords. 41 (DC)And they shall (DD)burn your houses and (DE)execute judgments upon you in the sight of many women. (DF)I will make you stop playing the whore, and (DG)you shall also give payment no more.

Hebrews 7:18-28

18 For on the one hand, a former commandment is set aside (A)because of its weakness and uselessness 19 (for (B)the law made nothing perfect); but on the other hand, (C)a better hope is introduced, through which (D)we draw near to God.

20 And it was not without an oath. For those who formerly became priests were made such without an oath, 21 but this one was made a priest with an oath by the one who said to him:

(E)“The Lord has sworn
and will not change his mind,
‘You are a priest forever.’”

22 This makes Jesus the guarantor of (F)a better covenant.

23 The former priests were many in number, because they were prevented by death from continuing in office, 24 but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues (G)forever. 25 Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost[a] (H)those who draw near to God (I)through him, since he always lives (J)to make intercession for them.

26 For it was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest, (K)holy, innocent, unstained, (L)separated from sinners, and (M)exalted above the heavens. 27 He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, (N)first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this (O)once for all when he offered up himself. 28 For the law appoints men (P)in their weakness as high priests, but the word of the oath, which came later than the law, appoints a Son who has been made (Q)perfect forever.

Psalm 106:1-12

Give Thanks to the Lord, for He Is Good

106 (A)Praise the Lord!
(B)Oh give thanks to the Lord, (C)for he is good,
(D)for his steadfast love endures forever!
Who can utter the mighty deeds of the Lord,
or declare all his praise?
Blessed are they who observe justice,
who (E)do righteousness at all times!

(F)Remember me, O Lord, when you show favor to your people;
help me when you save them,[a]
that I may look upon the prosperity of your (G)chosen ones,
that I may rejoice in the gladness of your nation,
that I may glory with your inheritance.

(H)Both we and (I)our fathers have sinned;
we have committed iniquity; we have done wickedness.
Our fathers, when they were in Egypt,
did not consider your wondrous works;
they (J)did not remember the abundance of your steadfast love,
but (K)rebelled by the sea, at the Red Sea.
Yet he saved them (L)for his name's sake,
(M)that he might make known his mighty power.
He (N)rebuked the Red Sea, and it (O)became dry,
and he (P)led them through the deep as through a desert.
10 So he (Q)saved them from the hand of the foe
and (R)redeemed them from the power of the enemy.
11 And (S)the waters covered their adversaries;
not one of them was left.
12 Then (T)they believed his words;
they (U)sang his praise.

Proverbs 27:4-6

Wrath is cruel, anger is overwhelming,
but who can stand before (A)jealousy?
(B)Better is open rebuke
than hidden love.
Faithful are (C)the wounds of a friend;
profuse are the kisses of an enemy.

Ezekiel 12:1-14:11, Hebrews 7:1-17, Psalm 105:37-45, Proverbs 27:3

Today is the 5th day of November, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I’m Brian. It is a joy, like it always is to show up here and be here together, take the next step forward in the Scriptures. And for us, where we are now, we will be taking the next step forward in the book of Ezekiel and in the New Testament in the book of Hebrews. We’ve been reading from the English Standard Version this week. Ezekiel chapter 12 verse 1 through 14 verse 11.

Commentary:

Okay, you remember several days ago when we began the letter to the Hebrews and we talked about it, I mentioned that Hebrews is written to Hebrews. Losing sight of that can make some of the passages in Hebrews hard to track with and today’s passage in Hebrews is like that and will talk about it. Hebrews gives a Gentile, like most of us who haven’t grown up with this kind of background and this kind of back story woven into the tapestry of our lives like it wasn’t kind of taught to us and we grew up in it and immersed ourselves in it because it’s the origin of our family. It gives we who haven’t had that context and understanding because Jesus was a Jew and he was in a Hebrew context his entire ministry and so that’s the context from which the Savior ministered and so, understanding that context well into the future in a very Gentile world is important so we can get at the essence of what the gospel is and what the message is. So, for the last couple of days in Hebrews, we’ve had this name come up Melchizedek and then today we spent most of our time reading about Melchizedek in the context of Jesus and that name may be familiar, you may have heard it before. We’ve definitely at least heard it a couple of times before because it appears a couple of other times in the Bible. This figure, this person Melchizedek, who, there’s like almost no knowledge of. And yet, the writer of Hebrews is saying Jesus is like Melchizedek in terms of being a high priest, a priest of God according to Hebrews Jesus is in the order of Melchizedek, the order of Melchizedek. Sounds like a secret society or something and in a weird way it is a little bit. So, let’s try to get the context from a Hebrew perspective. So, Melchizedek shows up in the Hebrew Scriptures, which is what we generally know as the Old Testament among those of the Christian faith. Melchizedek first shows up in the in the book of Genesis, the first book of the Bible and interacts with Abraham. So, I quote from Genesis 14 “and Melchizedek, the king of Salem and a priest of God most high brought Abram some bread and wine. Melchizedek blessed Abram with this blessing, blessed to be Abram by God most high Creator of heaven and earth and blessed be God most high, who has defeated your enemies for you. Then Abram gave Melchizedek 1/10 of all the goods he had recovered,” and that’s the long and short of the story. That’s all there is about Melchizedek in Genesis. The next time we find Melchizedek mentioned in the Bible, it’s in the book of Psalms chapter 110, which says the Lord is taken an oath and will not break his vow, you are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek. That’s it. That’s all there is in the Bible until he shows up again in the book of Hebrews in the New Testament, which is kind of ironic. There’s so little information and yet this name, this idea around the order of Melchizedek lasts outside of the Bible, but within the Hebrew context for thousands of years. So, we read from Genesis about Melchizedek. We know that that’s the time of Abram or Abraham, then we read about him again in the Psalms, which is the time of David and we know that a lot of time passed between Abraham and David, and then we don’t see him again until the New Testament after the time of Jesus ministry. So, between David and Jesus is a significant portion of time as well. So, this Melchizedek lasts all the way from the book of Genesis all the way into the New Testament extra biblically, like they’re still talking about him. So why is the writer of Hebrews, making Melchizedek a prototype of Jesus. Basically Melchizedek, Melchi Zedek, that means king of justice or king of righteousness. He’s also the King of Salem, which is the king of peace. And he is the first priest of the most high God to appear in the Bible. And so, what do we get from all that, that Melchizedek was the first righteous or just priest of the most high God and a person who was also a physical king of a city. That city beings Salem or Solem. Here’s where it gets interesting. And here’s where we have to lean back on some of the things we’ve talked about in Paul’s writings, the Mosaic law was given, when the Mosaic law was given Moses’s brother Aaron was anointed as priest, as high priest and his offspring would always serve as priests among their brothers and sisters, among the other tribes, they would be the priestly tribe to lead people before God. In fact, the Mosaic law made it pretty clear that if you weren’t of this house of Aaron or of the tribe of Levi, the Levites then you couldn’t serve as a priest, you had to be a Levite in order to serve as a Hebrew priest leading Hebrew people in the customs and rituals and covenant obedience to God. So, here’s the interesting thing, remember when Paul talks about Abraham and how Abraham couldn’t obey that law, the law of Moses because Moses wasn’t even born during Abraham’s time, and so the law that was revealed through Moses did not exist for Abraham to obey. And there’s a bunch of theology about that, we’ve talked about this, Melchizedek is not unlike that, Melchizedek was a priest of the most high God, but he was not a Levite. Levi wasn’t born, there was no tribe of Levi, there was no tribe of priests. So, if we move like a thousand years-ish forward from Abraham, we’ll land ourselves in the time of David and the time of Psalm 110, which also mentions the order of Melchizedek. During David’s time Levi had been born, Moses had been born, the law had been given, the tribe of Levi were the priestly tribe, nobody else could be a priest other than a person born into the tribe of Levi. And yet, David was born from the tribe of Judah, and he was considered to be a priestly king as was Melchizedek, a priestly king. Melchizedek had been the earthly king of Solem or Salem. David was a priestly king in Jerusalem the same city. So, now we begin to understand what this order of Melchizedek may be because David was being set apart to be a priestly king like Melchizedek and David wasn’t from the tribe of Levi, and neither was Melchizedek, so this order of Melchizedek then are those rare people that God chooses to be priests outside of the tribe of Levi as if it’s a specific exception for a specific purpose, the order of Melchizedek. Jesus then comes through the line of David, of the tribe of Judah, he is a king of justice and righteousness, the Prince of Peace, and the final high priest in the sacrificial system. So, Jesus is our high priest right, and if you have like a Hebrew context, you don’t like, a priest, a high priest of like, what, we don’t even have the context but it should be starting to fill in. Jesus is our high priest; Jesus is our King. Jesus was not of the tribe of Levi, but of the tribe of Judah, and this is how we see him in the order of Melchizedek, making Melchizedek and David prototypes of what was coming in Jesus. So, kinda having that back story and we read again from the letter to the Hebrews what we read today. This becomes even more evident and I’m quoting from Hebrews here, “This becomes even more evident when another priest arises in the likeness of Melchizedek, who has become a priest, not on the basis of a legal requirement concerning bodily dissent, but by the power of an indestructible life for it is witnessed of him, you are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek. So, there probably is more we can talk about this. There’s definitely more we could talk about in terms of the Hebrew context, but we will continue to talk about that as we continue our journey. But this at least shows us how the Hebrew back story and how Hebrews is written to Hebrews and how understanding that context helps us to understand a whole lot more and unpacks a whole lot more for us as we continue to seek clarity and wisdom and meaning from the Scriptures.

Prayer:

So, Father we thank You yet again. And when can we not be thankful for what You are doing among us that You have allowed us to live on this planet at a time where this is even possible, where we can gather around this Global Campfire all over the world and sit together, be together, shoulder to shoulder, heart to heart as Your word washes into our lives, transforming us in ways that we need to be transformed. Prayer and Encouragements:

Hey, Daily Audio Bible family, it’s so great to talk to you. This is His Warrior Girl in Alabama. I am a first-time caller but a five-year listener. It has been a joy and a pleasure to be praying along with you guys and listening to the Bible and the commentaries for the last 5 years of my life. But, for the last year you guys, listening to you guys pray and ask for prayer and be humble, be broken, be excited, to be living your life for Jesus and in front of Him and calling out to Him has been such a bright light and every November for the last probably 10 Novembers I’ve done a Daily I’m Grateful For. So, today is November 1st of 2021 and the first thing on my list today is Prayer Warriors. I am so grateful for the men and women who take up the mantel that God has put on us to pray and intercede and stand in the gap for others. I’m thankful to the Father that He calls Himself, the God who hears prayers and that He says He inclines His ear to His children. And I’m so humble that Jesus is our great high priest, ever interceding for us and that the Holy Spirit gives us words when we can’t even make them for ourselves. I love you guys, I’m excited about calling this in. It’s November 1st now so I know it won’t play until later but I’m excited about starting to interact with you guys. I love you all very much. Father, thank You for this world-wide community of prayer warriors. Thank You that You love us and that You have brought us together under this one teaching and one ministry. Love you guys, bye.

Good morning, this is Lord’s Face from Northern Nevada. And I was just listening and I heard the prayer request from Rodney who is paralyzed and his wife has just left him with his little girl. I just wanted pray for you Rodney. My ex-wife divorced me when my little girl was two and so I know how that feels. And I just want to just lift you up in prayer right now. Father God, I just pray that You would bring healing to Rodney in whatever way seems right to You and best from You. That You would just let him know how strong of a man he really is, just to have connected with the Daily Audio Bible and to be listening and drawing his heart closer to You as he goes through this season of his life that is so difficult. And that he has physical things that need to be made better and that You would help him with that. So, I’m just praying for healing, I’m praying for encouragement that You would let him know how much You love and how special is he is. He is a daddy to that little girl and that You would allow him to be in her life and be a good dad and that his life would have meaning and purpose because You love him as a good father so much. In Jesus name. Amen.

Good morning DAB family, this is Cheryl, Princess Warrior in Southeastern Washington. It is November 2nd 2021. Listening to the Daily Audio Bible, I heard a prayer request from Rodney. You have brothers and sisters here that will pray for you. Just keep reaching out Rodney. God is got your path; He knows what’s ahead. And you asked for peace even though your wife left you and that God would open her eyes and we’re praying with you Rodney. And keep calling Rodney so we can stay in touch. We love you brother, God bless you. God is in control. Love you DAB family. Bye.

Good morning this is Tamra from Northern California. First, I want to thank Deon Jackson for turning me onto this amazing app about two years ago. I have been consistently listening for a year and half now. So, thank you Deon. I just was led to call in this morning to lift up those who are listening and that they have not called in yet, there prayer requests. Some have been listening for years and they are full of prayer requests and it’s all just in their heart. And so, I just want those individuals to know that God hears your heart, whether you utter a word, whether you pick up the phone and place your prayer requests on this app, He hears you. Be encouraged today. My prayer for you is that God will meet you at your point of need whatever the need is, if you need a healing, that He will bring about healing. If you need restoration to be restored in the areas that you are broken and bruised and that He will restore you in those areas. If you need deliverance that He will deliver you from whatever it is that you are struggling with, whatever it is that keeps you outside of his wheel. And so, I am encouraged on today that God will answer your prayers and I am touching and agreeing that all is well with you on today. Be encouraged. God bless.

Ezekiel 12:1-14:11

Judah's Captivity Symbolized

12 The word of the Lord came to me: (A)“Son of man, you dwell in the midst of (B)a rebellious house, (C)who have eyes to see, but see not, who have ears to hear, but hear not, for they are (D)a rebellious house. As for you, son of man, prepare for yourself (E)an exile's baggage, and go into exile by day (F)in their sight. You shall go like an exile from your place to another place (G)in their sight. (H)Perhaps they will understand, though[a] they are a rebellious house. You shall bring out your baggage by day in their sight, as baggage for exile, and you shall go out yourself (I)at evening in their sight, as those do who must go into exile. In their sight (J)dig through the wall, and bring your baggage out through it. In their sight you shall lift the baggage upon your shoulder and carry it out at dusk. You shall cover your face that you may not see the land, for I have made you (K)a sign for the house of Israel.”

(L)And I did as I was commanded. (M)I brought out my baggage by day, as baggage for exile, and in the evening I dug through the wall with my own hands. I brought out my baggage at dusk, carrying it on my shoulder in their sight.

In the morning the word of the Lord came to me: (N)“Son of man, has not the house of Israel, (O)the rebellious house, said to you, (P)‘What are you doing?’ 10 Say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God: This oracle concerns[b] (Q)the prince in Jerusalem and all the house of Israel who are in it.’[c] 11 Say, (R)‘I am a sign for you: (S)as I have done, so shall it be done to them. They shall go into exile, into captivity.’ 12 (T)And the prince who is among them shall lift his baggage upon his shoulder at dusk, and shall go out. (U)They shall dig through the wall to bring him out through it. (V)He shall cover his face, that he may not see the land with his eyes. 13 (W)And I will spread my net over him, and he shall be taken in my snare. And (X)I will bring him to Babylon, the land of the Chaldeans, (Y)yet he shall not see it, and he shall die there. 14 (Z)And I will scatter toward every wind all who are around him, his helpers and all his troops, (AA)and I will unsheathe the sword after them. 15 (AB)And they shall know that I am the Lord, when I disperse them among the nations and scatter them among the countries. 16 (AC)But I will let a few of them escape from the sword, from famine and pestilence, that they may declare all their abominations among the nations where they go, (AD)and may know that I am the Lord.”

17 And the word of the Lord came to me: 18 (AE)“Son of man, (AF)eat your bread with quaking, and drink water with trembling and with anxiety. 19 And say to the people of the land, Thus says the Lord God concerning the inhabitants of Jerusalem in the land of Israel: (AG)They shall eat their bread with anxiety, (AH)and drink water in dismay. In this way (AI)her land will be stripped of all it contains, (AJ)on account of the violence of all those who dwell in it. 20 (AK)And the inhabited cities shall be laid waste, and the land shall become a desolation; and you shall know that I am the Lord.”

21 And the word of the Lord came to me: 22 “Son of man, (AL)what is this proverb that you[d] have about the land of Israel, saying, (AM)‘The days grow long, and every vision comes to nothing’? 23 Tell them therefore, ‘Thus says the Lord God: I will put an end to this proverb, and they shall no more use it as a proverb in Israel.’ But say to them, (AN)The days are near, and the fulfillment[e] of every vision. 24 (AO)For there shall be no more any (AP)false vision or flattering divination within the house of Israel. 25 For I am the Lord; I will speak (AQ)the word that I will speak, and it will be performed. (AR)It will no longer be delayed, but in your days, (AS)O rebellious house, I will speak the word and perform it, declares the Lord God.”

26 And the word of the Lord came to me: 27 “Son of man, behold, they of the house of Israel say, (AT)‘The vision that he sees is (AU)for many days from now, and he prophesies of times far off.’ 28 Therefore say to them, Thus says the Lord God: (AV)None of my words will be delayed any longer, (AW)but the word that I speak will be performed, declares the Lord God.”

False Prophets Condemned

13 The word of the Lord came to me: (AX)“Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel, who are prophesying, and say to those (AY)who prophesy from their own hearts: ‘Hear the word of the Lord!’ Thus says the Lord God, Woe to the foolish prophets who follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing! Your prophets have been like jackals among ruins, O Israel. (AZ)You have not gone up into the breaches, or built up a wall for the house of Israel, that it might stand in battle in the day of the Lord. (BA)They have seen false visions and lying divinations. They say, ‘Declares the Lord,’ (BB)when the Lord has not sent them, and yet they expect him to fulfill their word. Have you not seen a false vision and uttered a lying divination, (BC)whenever you have said, ‘Declares the Lord,’ although I have not spoken?”

Therefore thus says the Lord God: “Because you have uttered falsehood and seen lying visions, therefore behold, (BD)I am against you, declares the Lord God. My hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and who give lying divinations. They shall not be in the council of my people, (BE)nor be enrolled in the register of the house of Israel, (BF)nor shall they enter the land of Israel. (BG)And you shall know that I am the Lord God. 10 Precisely because they have misled my people, (BH)saying, ‘Peace,’ when there is no peace, and because, when the people build a wall, (BI)these prophets smear it with whitewash,[f] 11 say to those who smear it with whitewash that it shall fall! (BJ)There will be a deluge of rain, and you, O great hailstones, will fall, and a stormy wind break out. 12 And when the wall falls, will it not be said to you, ‘Where is the coating with which you smeared it?’ 13 Therefore thus says the Lord God: (BK)I will make a stormy wind break out in my wrath, (BL)and there shall be a deluge of rain in my anger, and great hailstones in wrath to make a full end. 14 And I will break down the wall that you have smeared with whitewash, and bring it down to the ground, so that its foundation will be laid bare. When it falls, you shall perish in the midst of it, (BM)and you shall know that I am the Lord. 15 Thus will I spend my wrath upon the wall and upon those who have smeared it with whitewash, and I will say to you, The wall is no more, nor those who smeared it, 16 the prophets of Israel who prophesied concerning Jerusalem (BN)and saw visions of peace for her, when there was no peace, declares the Lord God.

17 “And you, son of man, (BO)set your face against (BP)the daughters of your people, (BQ)who prophesy out of their own hearts. Prophesy against them 18 and say, Thus says the Lord God: Woe to the women (BR)who sew magic bands upon all wrists, and (BS)make veils for the heads of persons of every stature, in (BT)the hunt for souls! Will you hunt down souls belonging to my people and keep your own souls alive? 19 You have profaned me among my people (BU)for handfuls of barley (BV)and for pieces of bread, putting to death souls who should not die and keeping alive souls who should not live, by your lying to my people, who listen to lies.

20 “Therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, (BW)I am against (BX)your magic bands with which you hunt the souls like birds, and I will tear them from your arms, and I will let the souls whom you hunt go free, the souls like birds. 21 Your veils also I will tear off and (BY)deliver my people out of your hand, and they shall be no more in your hand as prey, (BZ)and you shall know that I am the Lord. 22 (CA)Because you have disheartened the righteous falsely, although I have not grieved him, and (CB)you have encouraged the wicked, that (CC)he should not turn from his evil way to save his life, 23 (CD)therefore you shall no more see false visions nor practice divination. I will deliver my people out of your hand. And you shall know that I am the Lord.”

Idolatrous Elders Condemned

14 Then certain of the (CE)elders of Israel came to me (CF)and sat before me. And the word of the Lord came to me: (CG)“Son of man, these men have taken their idols into their hearts, and set (CH)the stumbling block of their iniquity before their faces. (CI)Should I indeed let myself be consulted by them? Therefore speak to them and say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Any one of the house of Israel who takes his idols into his heart and sets the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face, and yet comes to the prophet, (CJ)I the Lord will answer him as he comes with the multitude of his idols, (CK)that I may lay hold of the hearts of the house of Israel, (CL)who are all estranged from me through their idols.

“Therefore say to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord God: (CM)Repent and turn away from your idols, and turn away your faces from all your abominations. For any one of the house of Israel, or of the strangers who sojourn in Israel, (CN)who separates himself from me, taking his idols into his heart and putting the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face, and yet comes to a prophet to consult me through him, (CO)I the Lord will answer him myself. And (CP)I will set my face against that man; I (CQ)will make him a sign and a byword (CR)and cut him off from the midst of my people, (CS)and you shall know that I am the Lord. And if the prophet is deceived and speaks a word, (CT)I, the Lord, have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand against him and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel. 10 And they shall bear their punishment[g]—the punishment of the prophet and the punishment of the inquirer shall be alike— 11 that the house of Israel may no more go astray from me, nor (CU)defile themselves anymore with all their transgressions, (CV)but that they may be my people and I may be their God, declares the Lord God.”

Hebrews 7:1-17

The Priestly Order of Melchizedek

For this (A)Melchizedek, king of (B)Salem, priest of (C)the Most High God, met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, and to him Abraham apportioned a tenth part of everything. He is first, by translation of his name, king of righteousness, and then he is also king of Salem, that is, king of peace. He is without father or mother (D)or genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but resembling the Son of God he continues a priest forever.

See how great this man was to whom Abraham (E)the patriarch gave a tenth of the spoils! And (F)those descendants of Levi who receive the priestly office have a commandment in the law to take tithes from the people, that is, from their brothers,[a] though these also are descended from Abraham. But this man (G)who does not have his descent from them received tithes from Abraham and blessed (H)him who had the promises. It is beyond dispute that the inferior is blessed by the superior. In the one case tithes are received by mortal men, but in the other case, by one (I)of whom it is testified that (J)he lives. One might even say that Levi himself, who receives tithes, paid tithes through Abraham, 10 for he was still in the loins of his ancestor when Melchizedek met him.

Jesus Compared to Melchizedek

11 (K)Now if perfection had been attainable through the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people received the law), what further need would there have been for another priest to arise after the order of Melchizedek, rather than one named after the order of Aaron? 12 For when there is a change in the priesthood, there is necessarily a change in the law as well. 13 For the one of whom these things are spoken belonged to another tribe, from which no one has ever served at the altar. 14 For it is evident that our Lord was descended (L)from Judah, and in connection with that tribe Moses said nothing about priests.

15 This becomes even more evident when another priest arises in the likeness of Melchizedek, 16 who has become a priest, not on the basis of a legal requirement concerning bodily descent, but by the power of an indestructible life. 17 For it is witnessed of him,

(M)“You are a priest forever,
after the order of Melchizedek.”

Psalm 105:37-45

37 Then he brought out Israel with (A)silver and gold,
and there was none among his tribes who stumbled.
38 (B)Egypt was glad when they departed,
for (C)dread of them had fallen upon it.

39 He (D)spread a cloud for a covering,
and fire to give light by night.
40 (E)They asked, and he (F)brought quail,
and gave them (G)bread from heaven in abundance.
41 He opened the rock, and (H)water gushed out;
it flowed through (I)the desert like a river.
42 For he (J)remembered his holy promise,
and (K)Abraham, his servant.

43 So he brought his people out with joy,
his (L)chosen ones with (M)singing.
44 And he (N)gave them the lands of the nations,
and they took possession of the fruit of the peoples' toil,
45 that they might (O)keep his statutes
and (P)observe his laws.
(Q)Praise the Lord!

Ezekiel; 10:1-11:25, Hebrews 6:1-20, Psalms 105:16-36, Proverbs 27:1-2

Today is the 4th day of November welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I’m Brian it is…it’s wonderful, truly wonderful to come in and take a seat around this Global Campfire with everybody and let the cares of this life diminish, allow them to kind of be put into context in their proper place and just relax for a minute. We have permission. We have permission because we’re here to learn from the Scriptures, and to allow them to speak into this day. And, so, it’s wonderful to be here with you today. We will be working our way further into the book of Ezekiel, as well as the book of Hebrews today. We’re reading from the English Standard Version this week. Ezekiel chapters 10 and 11.

Commentary:

Okay. So, yesterday the voice of wisdom out of the book of Proverbs gave us this one sentence that was very stark about lying and making victims out of people who you lie to. And, so, hopefully we did. We prayed about that yesterday and hopefully we’ve contemplated that. Today we have wisdom again speaking pretty directly to us, giving us a wise counsel, wisdom that we can actually incorporate into our lives and the way that we behave and the way that we live in this world. So, Proverbs says, “Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.” In so many ways this is an invitation to be present in the present. Maybe a more popular pun or proverb would be “don’t count your chickens before they hatch”, right? So, we can find security in our well laid plans, but we have no idea. I mean, we can’t even accurately predict what will be happening one hour from this very moment. I mean, we may have an idea, but we have no control over all of the little things that a day can bring, just the millions of sensory inputs in a day. And I’m a planner. I’m…I’m like this. And, so, I’m like yeah, I get this because we can be so lost in some other time, right, like the future. We can be so lost in planning for the future that what’s happening right now never even really registers. So, we live in a place that isn’t happening or we’re stock in the wounds of our past. And, so, we spend so much time regurgitating conversations that had…even one…that we had, even yesterday’s conversations. We keep playing them over and over. But the thing is, that’s not happening either. The only place where something’s happening is now. And, so, rooting ourselves in that, at least being aware that life is happening now, and we best live it fully, is wisdom. The proverb goes on to say, “let another praise you and not your own mouth, a stranger and not your own lips.” And we probably all know folks like that who, even if they call you up, what they wanted to call you up to talk about was themselves, right? Or if you have coffee, what you’re meeting about isn’t to catch up on things. It’s for you to sit there and listen to them catch up with you on what’s going on in their life and how their children are just doing wonderful in sports and they’re just acing everything at school and, I don’t know, on and on and on. You know what I’m talking about. On and on and on in sort of a self-absorbed balloon that just keeps getting bigger and bigger and bigger and more and more and more full of hot air. And I suppose we could psychoanalyze and go, “well there’s something underneath all that.” And that would be true, but what the voice of wisdom is starkly saying is that’s not a good idea. Like that’s not healthy behavior. That’s not walking in wisdom. And, so, it’s easy enough for us to say I know people like that. It’s a little harder to say, “yeah, I am like that.” What wisdom is essentially saying is that true affirmation isn’t something that you have to force people to do. You have to force people to sit down and listen to you spew about how awesome things are for you so that you can, in some sort of psychological way, feel that your superior or have some sort of dominance in the situation. That’s not going anywhere. It’s just like we were talking about yesterday. We have the identity of identities. It has been bestowed upon us- children of the most-high God. That can’t be earned. We can’t compete with each other over it. It’s something that is. And becoming self-absorbed to the point that all we can really talk about is our kids and our job and our vacation ultimately reveals that we’ve lost the plot. And again, that doesn’t mean you don’t catch up with your friends and tell each other what’s going in your lives. This is an example. But again, wisdom pushes deeper and says, “what’s motivating us? Why are we always doing this? Why in any 10-minute conversation are eight of those minutes spent on ourselves, one of those minutes on listening, and one of those minutes in silence? Like why do we dominate about ourselves in so many situations? What is that? What is going on there?” And again, wisdom has given us some things to think about because what we’re being told is, yeah, you can do this stuff. It just doesn’t work. It’s just…like if you know that kind of a person, who every time that you meet with them you can’t get a word in edge wise because they’re too busy telling you the stories of how awesome things are or even how bad they…I mean it can be in reverse, just how bad things are. You know people that all they can do. You can talk to them, check in on them and all they’re gonna do is bring you down for an hour of nonstop how bad it is for them. Ultimately, that kind of behavior, whether extreme positivity or extreme negativity, right, it eventually becomes repellent. You eventually go, “wow I don’t know if I got time to invest in that right now.” And, so, we find excuses to avoid it. So, the thing that the person wants, which is to be seen and heard actually works against them because people don’t want to see and hear it anymore because they’re so full of their own experience, Some more things for us to think about that are direct and that are clear and that are straight into our lives from the voice of wisdom today.

Prayer:

Father, we invite you into that again. We have all experienced this. We have probably all participated in this to some degree or another, but we also know the extremes of it. We’ve experienced the extremes of it. Maybe we have perpetuated the extremes of it on some other people, but we know what we’re talking about here. We know what we’re getting at. And we know that some…to some degree, we… we’re all guilty. And, so, again just like yesterday Holy Spirit, we invite you into…to exposing to us the wise of these things because that’s where the gold is, that’s where the transformation can happen. That’s where a complete change can happen, if we can get to the root of things. And, so, Holy Spirit, we invite you to lead us into the roots of some of these behaviors so that we can understand ourselves better and so that we can understand each other better. Holy Spirit, come. We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hi DAB family this is Aussie Bear in Australia. It’s almost 10:00 PM on Sunday October 31st and today marks exactly a year since I left a job that I absolutely loved because of workplace bullying. I was at that job for four years and for that entire four years I was bullied by a coworker. And it got to the point where I had to leave. And today is exactly a year and in the last few weeks I’ve been really convicted and…and encouraged by God to pray for the woman who bullied me. I still see her almost daily because where I worked was at a supermarket and I live in a small town and there’s only one supermarket and she still works there and of course I have to go there on a regular basis. So, I still see her. And I’ve dealt with so much anxiety in the last 12 months since leaving that job but still having to see her on…on such a regular basis. And she’s still cold and horrible but I…I really feel prompted to pray for her. But I’m struggling with that because I don’t like her. That’s the honest truth. I don’t like her. She’s not a nice person. And…but I just really feel really convicted. And…I mean…I’m usually dead to the world by now but she’s in my mind. And, so, I just feel like God’s really pushing for me to change my thinking toward her. And I just I really need help with that. So, if I coan get you guys too pray with me and help me pray for this woman. Her name is Jody.

You called in and how it’s been along hall with mental health and…and…and depression and…and suicidal thoughts and the…being under attack. You said you were taking a road trip. So, I just pray that…that God have victory into this all and He strengthen you as a parent step by step and that your son would have joy and that God would refresh him as well through this. I know it's…it’s a long journey and I just pray for resilience in it all in Jesus’ name. And I pray for disciple who loves. I pray for your daughter every time I pray for my own children. So, I will just continue to pray for him and for you as a parent. And I do seek your prayers today. I’m picking up my son now from school. He hasn’t seen a therapist. He’s refused for about four months. And I finally got an appointment with one that he's…he’s gonna go see today. So I’m just praying that Lord you would help my son to be receptive, that there would be good chemistry between them and that the unprocessed traumas of the past would be processed and that the un-delt with hurts, disappointments would be dealt with, and especially the anger that results from it all, that You would help my son to have a focus on the future and just help me to provide support along the way lower. May Your Holy Spirit guide and lead and work the way only You can Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen. Thank you.

Hi this is a friend from Pennsylvania. I’m calling for prayer for one of our dear friends, Dave. Dave has been in the hospital for over a month now from COVID related injuries. He got sick in early September, and he continues to be in the hospital, first on a ventilator and then he had a tracheostomy. He has been on a paralytic for too many weeks now and we’re praying for his recovery. He is a Christian. In fact, there are many people that are listening to Daily Audio Bible including myself that are listening because of Dave. I want to ask for prayer for him. I want to ask for prayer for the doctors and for his family. His wife Kathy has been a tower of strength through all of this. They have three children, two older children who are in college and one who still in high school. I pray for strength for the family. I pray for strength for Kathy as she has been, as I mentioned, a tower of strength through this sharing daily updates about her husband. And I pray that this week would be the week that his lungs would start to respond. They don’t seem like they’re very damaged. They’re just not responding. Please lift him up in prayer that he might be healed from this horrible disease.

Hello DAB family this is Elaine in Colchester England. I haven’t called in before I’ve been listening to daily audio Bible for four or five years now. I need you to pray for my son Daniel. He’s very low about himself. He’s 13 and he thinks that nobody likes him and he's…he’s no good. His father had mental health problems. We don’t see him anymore, but he was calling him nothing and worthless behind everybody’s backs for years. Daniel told us after he left. And, so, he’s got these core beliefs from a young child that he really is no good and he started to want to not live anymore, and my heart is breaking and I’m so worried and I have got help but I really ask for your prayers. And I thank you for them. Thank you for Daily Audio Bible. And I listen every night and I…I really appreciate it. Thank you, Brian.

My name is Paul and I’m very concerned about her, my wife and I and it’s become a real struggle. And I’m seeing the way that the world it'…it’s become a battle of good and evil. And please I’m pleading with you, begging you, please pray for my daughter. Thank you. I know that so many people out there if you pray, please help. Thank you. Bye.

Ezekiel 10-11

The Glory of the Lord Leaves the Temple

10 Then I looked, and behold, (A)on the expanse that was over the heads of the cherubim there appeared above them something (B)like a sapphire,[a] in appearance like a throne. And he said to (C)the man clothed in linen, “Go in among (D)the whirling wheels underneath the cherubim. Fill your hands with (E)burning coals from between the cherubim, and (F)scatter them over the city.”

And he went in (G)before my eyes. Now the cherubim were standing (H)on the south side of the house, when the man went in, and (I)a cloud filled (J)the inner court. And (K)the glory of the Lord (L)went up from the cherub to the threshold of the house, and the house (M)was filled with the cloud, and the court was filled with (N)the brightness of the glory of the Lord. And (O)the sound of the wings of the cherubim was heard as far as the outer court, (P)like the voice of God Almighty when he speaks.

And when he commanded (Q)the man clothed in linen, (R)“Take fire from between (S)the whirling wheels, from between the cherubim,” he went in and stood beside a wheel. And a cherub stretched out his hand from between the cherubim to the fire that was between the cherubim, and took some of it and put it into the hands of the man clothed in linen, who took it and went out. The cherubim appeared to have (T)the form of a human hand under their wings.

(U)And I looked, and behold, there were four wheels beside the cherubim, one beside each cherub, and (V)the appearance of the wheels was (W)like sparkling (X)beryl. 10 And as for their appearance, the four had the same likeness, as if a wheel were within a wheel. 11 (Y)When they went, they went in any of their four directions[b] (Z)without turning as they went, (AA)but in whatever direction the front wheel[c] faced, the others followed without turning as they went. 12 (AB)And their whole body, their rims, and their spokes, their wings,[d] and the wheels were full of eyes all around—the wheels that the four of them had. 13 As for the wheels, they were called in my hearing (AC)“the whirling wheels.” 14 (AD)And every one had four faces: (AE)the first face was the face of the cherub, and the second face was (AF)a human face, and the third the face of a lion, and the fourth the face of an eagle.

15 (AG)And the cherubim mounted up. These were (AH)the living creatures that I saw by (AI)the Chebar canal. 16 (AJ)And when the cherubim went, the wheels went beside them. And (AK)when the cherubim lifted up their wings to mount up from the earth, the wheels did not turn from beside them. 17 (AL)When they stood still, these stood still, and when they mounted up, these mounted up with them, for the spirit of the living creatures[e] was in them.

18 (AM)Then (AN)the glory of the Lord went out from the threshold of the house, and stood over the cherubim. 19 (AO)And the cherubim lifted up their wings and mounted up from the earth (AP)before my eyes as they went out, with the wheels beside them. And they stood at the entrance of the (AQ)east gate of the house of the Lord, and (AR)the glory of the God of Israel was over them.

20 (AS)These were the living creatures that I saw (AT)underneath the God of Israel by (AU)the Chebar canal; and I knew that they were cherubim. 21 (AV)Each had four faces, and each four wings, and underneath their wings (AW)the likeness of human hands. 22 (AX)And as for the likeness of their faces, they were the same faces whose appearance I had seen by the Chebar canal. (AY)Each one of them went straight forward.

Judgment on Wicked Counselors

11 (AZ)The Spirit lifted me up and brought me to (BA)the east gate of the house of the Lord, which faces east. And behold, at the entrance of the gateway there were (BB)twenty-five men. And I saw among them Jaazaniah (BC)the son of Azzur, and (BD)Pelatiah the son of Benaiah, princes of the people. And he said to me, (BE)“Son of man, these are the men who devise iniquity and who give wicked counsel in this city; (BF)who say, (BG)‘The time is not near[f] to build houses. (BH)This city is the cauldron, and we are the meat.’ Therefore prophesy against them; prophesy, O son of man.”

And (BI)the Spirit of the Lord fell upon me, and he said to me, “Say, Thus says the Lord: So you think, O house of Israel. (BJ)For I know the things that come into your mind. (BK)You have multiplied your slain in this city and have filled its streets with the slain. Therefore thus says the Lord God: (BL)Your slain whom you have laid in the midst of it, (BM)they are the meat, and (BN)this city is the cauldron, but you shall be brought out of the midst of it. (BO)You have feared the sword, and I will bring the sword upon you, declares the Lord God. And I will bring you out of the midst of it, and (BP)give you into the hands of foreigners, and (BQ)execute judgments upon you. 10 (BR)You shall fall by the sword. I will judge you at the border of Israel, (BS)and you shall know that I am the Lord. 11 (BT)This city shall not be your cauldron, nor shall you be the meat in the midst of it. I will judge you at the border of Israel, 12 and you shall know that I am the Lord. For you have not walked in my statutes, nor obeyed my rules, (BU)but have acted according to the rules of the nations that are around you.”

13 And it came to pass, while I was prophesying, (BV)that (BW)Pelatiah the son of Benaiah died. (BX)Then I fell down on my face and cried out with a loud voice and said, (BY)“Ah, Lord God! (BZ)Will you make a full end of the remnant of Israel?”

Israel's New Heart and Spirit

14 And the word of the Lord came to me: 15 (CA)“Son of man, your brothers, even your brothers, your kinsmen,[g] the whole house of Israel, all of them, are those of whom the inhabitants of Jerusalem have said, (CB)‘Go far from the Lord; to us this land is given for a possession.’ 16 Therefore say, ‘Thus says the Lord God: Though I removed them far off among the nations, and though I scattered them among the countries, yet (CC)I have been a sanctuary to them for a while[h] in the countries where they have gone.’ 17 Therefore say, ‘Thus says the Lord God: (CD)I will gather you from the peoples and assemble you out of the countries where you have been scattered, (CE)and I will give you the land of Israel.’ 18 And when they come there, (CF)they will remove from it all its (CG)detestable things and all its abominations. 19 (CH)And I will give them one heart, and (CI)a new spirit I will put within them. (CJ)I will remove the heart of stone from their flesh (CK)and give them a heart of flesh, 20 (CL)that they may walk in my statutes and keep my rules and obey them. (CM)And they shall be my people, and I will be their God. 21 (CN)But as for those whose heart goes after their detestable things and their abominations, (CO)I will[i] bring their deeds upon their own heads, declares the Lord God.”

22 (CP)Then the cherubim lifted up their wings, with the wheels beside them, (CQ)and the glory of the God of Israel was over them. 23 And the glory of the Lord went up from the midst of the city and (CR)stood on the mountain that is on the east side of the city. 24 (CS)And the Spirit lifted me up and brought me (CT)in the vision by the Spirit of God (CU)into Chaldea, to the exiles. Then the vision that I had seen went up from me. 25 And I told the exiles all the things that the Lord had shown me.

Hebrews 6

Therefore (A)let us leave (B)the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance (C)from dead works and of faith toward God, and of (D)instruction about washings,[a] (E)the laying on of hands, (F)the resurrection of the dead, and (G)eternal judgment. And this we will do (H)if God permits. For it is impossible, in the case of those (I)who have once been enlightened, who have tasted (J)the heavenly gift, and (K)have shared in the Holy Spirit, and (L)have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, and (M)then have fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, since (N)they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt. For (O)land that has drunk the rain that often falls on it, and produces a crop useful to those for whose sake it is cultivated, receives a blessing from God. But (P)if it bears thorns and thistles, it is worthless and near to being cursed, (Q)and its end is to be burned.

Though we speak in this way, yet in your case, beloved, we feel sure of better things—things that belong to salvation. 10 For (R)God is not unjust so as to overlook (S)your work and the love that you have shown for his name in (T)serving the saints, as you still do. 11 And we desire each one of you to show the same earnestness to have the full assurance (U)of hope until the end, 12 so that you may not be sluggish, but (V)imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

The Certainty of God's Promise

13 For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he had no one greater by whom to swear, (W)he swore by himself, 14 saying, (X)“Surely I will bless you and multiply you.” 15 And thus Abraham,[b] (Y)having patiently waited, obtained the promise. 16 For people swear by something greater than themselves, and in all their disputes (Z)an oath is final for confirmation. 17 So when God desired to show more convincingly to (AA)the heirs of the promise (AB)the unchangeable character of his purpose, (AC)he guaranteed it with an oath, 18 so that by two unchangeable things, in which (AD)it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope (AE)set before us. 19 We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into (AF)the inner place behind the curtain, 20 where Jesus has gone (AG)as a forerunner on our behalf, (AH)having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.

Psalm 105:16-36

16 When he (A)summoned a famine on the land
and (B)broke all supply[a] of bread,
17 he had (C)sent a man ahead of them,
Joseph, who was (D)sold as a slave.
18 His (E)feet were hurt with fetters;
his neck was put in a collar of iron;
19 until (F)what he had said came to pass,
the word of the Lord (G)tested him.
20 (H)The king sent and (I)released him;
the ruler of the peoples set him free;
21 he (J)made him lord of his house
and ruler of all his possessions,
22 to bind[b] his princes at his pleasure
and to teach his elders wisdom.

23 Then (K)Israel came to Egypt;
Jacob (L)sojourned in (M)the land of Ham.
24 And the Lord (N)made his people very fruitful
and made them stronger than their foes.
25 He (O)turned their hearts to hate his people,
to (P)deal craftily with his servants.

26 He (Q)sent Moses, his servant,
and Aaron, (R)whom he had chosen.
27 (S)They performed his signs among them
and miracles in (T)the land of Ham.
28 He (U)sent darkness, and made the land dark;
they (V)did not rebel[c] against his words.
29 He turned their waters into blood
and (W)caused their fish to die.
30 Their land swarmed with frogs,
even in (X)the chambers of their kings.
31 He spoke, and there came (Y)swarms of flies,
(Z)and gnats throughout their country.
32 He gave them hail for rain,
and fiery (AA)lightning bolts through their land.
33 He struck down their vines and fig trees,
and (AB)shattered the trees of their country.
34 He spoke, and the (AC)locusts came,
young locusts without number,
35 which devoured all the vegetation in their land
and ate up the fruit of their ground.
36 He (AD)struck down all the firstborn in their land,
(AE)the firstfruits of all their strength.

Ezekiel 7:1-9:11, Hebrews 5:1-14, Psalm 105:1-15, Proverbs 26:28

Today is the third day of November, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible, I’m Brian. It’s great to be here with you just like it’s great to be here with you every day as we find our place around the Global Campfire and move forward together, which will lead us back into the book of Ezekiel, we’re just getting going in the book of Ezekiel. Today, Ezekiel chapters 7 and 8 and 9.

Commentary:

Okay, can we zoom in on the Proverb because again today we have one sentence that speaks literally volumes into our human experience. So, once again wisdom is calling from the crossroads and speaking to us what is true and what is right and it says it in a stark enough way that we can’t kind of make it a gray area. So, the Proverb says, a lying tongue hates its victims and a flattering mouth works ruin. So, I doubt that anyone within the sound of my voice doesn’t know what a lie is right, and a blatant untruth or more popularly, a partial truth that is nuanced in such a way that it is effectively a lie. So, if we’re on the same page about what that is, then what the voice of wisdom is saying, from the Holy Scriptures is that a lying tongue hates its victims, and it even uses the word victims as people who are on the receiving end of a lie. And we could be like yeah, well, what’s another translation for that, victimization of a person who is on the receiving end of a lie that can’t be right, but it is. I mean if we want to go absolutely literal. We are literally talking about and oppressed person who is crushed. That is what happens to the person on the receiving end of a lie, according to the voice of wisdom found in the Holy Scriptures. So could it be more stark and should we not, should we not pause for a second and just think about it because our culture is built on these nuances. These partial truths that get spun in all sorts of directions and then regurgitated as fact all over the place. All of the time. So, if we’re in the habit of puffing up the truth, like making the story more interesting than what it actually is and what actually happened or what the actual situation is then that’s a lie. If we’re diminishing the truth, making it less and using it to manipulate or if we’re simply lying so that we don’t get exposed, it’s a lie. And we are hating on the person we are peddling the lie to. I know that’s pretty hard-core. I didn’t write this book though; I’m reading this book and this is what the book of Proverbs says, in the same Proverb in the same sentence because this entire Proverb is one sentence it says a flattering mouth works ruin. So, being a liar is hating on the people we are lying to and a flattering mouth, so using flattery works ruin, which doesn’t mean words of affirmation, kindness, speaking something kind and affirming to somebody about something that they done is flattering and we should stop complementing each other. Flattery is that used in a manipulative way so that in one way or another we gain something, whether that be deeper access to this person or their life. Whether things that we want from them or need from them that force us to kind of use words that we wouldn’t normally use in a way that we don’t really mean. Yeah, basically we’re counseled very vividly against this type of behavior. It does not lead to a good outcome. It’s foolish. It’s not wisdom and we’re getting that conclusion from the voice of wisdom. And so, let’s just take this strong medicine like grown-ups and examine the ways that we are hating on people, that we are acting foolish, that we are setting up scenarios that don’t end well and maybe invite the Holy Spirit into the why. Why do we react this way, why do we do this, why do we embellish the truth, why do we diminish the truth, why are we always in a situation where we’re on the defense and we’re always lying to protect ourselves even when it’s not necessary, why are we doing these things, what is underneath that? Because as we talked about in the book of Hebrews, what was it yesterday, this is alive and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and it can reach the place where soul and spirit divide. We basically flip the page and watch that exact thing happen to us. This is right at the level of our identity. This is as deep as it gets. Why do we do what we do when we know it’s not going to work out? And then as we’re considering, maybe we should also consider that we have been invited into a life of freedom. Freedom in Christ, which is freedom to be true because we’re not leeching an identity off of each other. We don’t need to lie to somebody else to make ourselves look better so that they look better at us. We are children of the most high God. There is no higher place to get, we have, there’s no aspiration for us that’s higher than that, we have an identity, basically, we have the identity of identities, we’re children of God. We actually don’t need to lie to each other or manipulate each other. We actually have freedom to be true.

Prayer:

So, Father, we invite You into that. It is a constant thing. It is a constant thing in the world that we live in as you know, it is a constant thing to be so deeply nuanced that it’s, that it’s a lie and we have participated in all kinds of things for all kinds of reasons, but we’re hearing loud and clear from the voice of wisdom that this isn’t going to go anywhere and so, we invite Your Holy Spirit to reveal to us the wounds and motivations, the things that compel us in a direction that is not healthy or good or profitable. Come, Holy Spirit, as we contemplate this today, as we consider, as we even observe ourselves in these situations because their regular, they face us on a daily basis. And so, Holy Spirit come into this, we need You. We need You not only to expose this to ourselves but then to begin to change that, to be transformed in that area to allow sanctification in that area. Then we have to be aware and open to You. So, help us Holy Spirit. We pray, in the name of Jesus we ask. Amen.

Ezekiel 7-9

The Day of the Wrath of the Lord

The word of the Lord came to me: “And you, (A)O son of man, thus says the Lord God to the land of Israel: (B)An end! The end has come upon the four corners of the land.[a] Now (C)the end is upon you, and (D)I will send my anger upon you; (E)I will judge you according to your ways, and I will punish you for all your abominations. (F)And my eye will not spare you, nor will I have pity, but (G)I will punish you for your ways, while your abominations are in your midst. (H)Then you will know that I am the Lord.

“Thus says the Lord God: Disaster (I)after disaster![b] Behold, it comes. (J)An end has come; the end has come; it has awakened against you. Behold, it comes. (K)Your doom[c] has come to you, O inhabitant of the land. (L)The time has come; the day is near, a day of tumult, and not (M)of joyful shouting on the mountains. Now I will soon (N)pour out my wrath upon you, and (O)spend my anger against you, (P)and judge you according to your ways, and I will punish you for all your abominations. (Q)And my eye will not spare, nor will I have pity. I will punish you according to your ways, while your abominations are in your midst. (R)Then you will know that I am the Lord, who strikes.

10 (S)“Behold, the day! Behold, it comes! (T)Your doom has come; (U)the rod has blossomed; pride has budded. 11 (V)Violence has grown up into (W)a rod of wickedness. (X)None of them shall remain, nor their abundance, nor their wealth; neither shall there be preeminence among them.[d] 12 (Y)The time has come; the day has arrived. Let not (Z)the buyer rejoice, nor (AA)the seller mourn, (AB)for wrath is upon all their multitude.[e] 13 For (AC)the seller shall not return to what he has sold, while they live. (AD)For the vision concerns all their multitude; it shall not turn back; and because of his iniquity, none can maintain his life.[f]

14 “They have blown the trumpet and made everything ready, but none goes to battle, (AE)for my wrath is upon all their multitude. 15 (AF)The sword is without; pestilence and famine are within. (AG)He who is in the field dies by the sword, (AH)and him who is in the city famine and pestilence devour. 16 (AI)And if any survivors escape, they will be on the mountains, like (AJ)doves of the valleys, all of them moaning, each one over his iniquity. 17 (AK)All hands are feeble, and all knees turn to water. 18 (AL)They put on sackcloth, and (AM)horror covers them. Shame is on all faces, and (AN)baldness on all their heads. 19 They cast their silver into the streets, and their gold is like an unclean thing. (AO)Their silver and gold are not able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the Lord. They cannot satisfy their hunger or fill their stomachs with it. (AP)For it was (AQ)the stumbling block of their iniquity. 20 (AR)His beautiful ornament they used for pride, and (AS)they made their abominable images and their detestable things of it. Therefore (AT)I make it an unclean thing to them. 21 And I will give it into the hands of (AU)foreigners for prey, (AV)and to the wicked of the earth for spoil, and (AW)they shall profane it. 22 I will turn my face from them, and (AX)they shall profane my treasured[g] place. Robbers shall enter (AY)and profane it.

23 (AZ)“Forge a chain![h] (BA)For the land is full of bloody crimes (BB)and the city is full of violence. 24 I will bring (BC)the worst of the nations to take possession of their houses. (BD)I will put an end to the pride of the strong, (BE)and their holy places[i] shall be profaned. 25 (BF)When anguish comes, (BG)they will seek peace, but there shall be none. 26 (BH)Disaster comes upon disaster; (BI)rumor follows rumor. (BJ)They seek a vision from the prophet, while (BK)the law[j] perishes from the priest and (BL)counsel from the elders. 27 The king mourns, the prince is wrapped in despair, and the hands of the people of the land are paralyzed by terror. According to their way (BM)I will do to them, and according to their judgments I will judge them, (BN)and they shall know that I am the Lord.”

Abominations in the Temple

(BO)In the sixth year, in the sixth month, on the fifth day of the month, (BP)as I sat in my house, with (BQ)the elders of Judah sitting before me, (BR)the hand of the Lord God fell upon me there. Then I looked, and behold, (BS)a form that had the appearance of a man.[k] (BT)Below what appeared to be his waist was fire, and above his waist was something like the appearance of brightness, like (BU)gleaming metal.[l] He (BV)put out the form of a hand and took me by a lock of my head, and the Spirit lifted me up (BW)between earth and heaven and (BX)brought me in (BY)visions of God to Jerusalem, (BZ)to the entrance of the gateway of the inner court that faces north, (CA)where was the seat of the (CB)image of jealousy, (CC)which provokes to jealousy. And behold, (CD)the glory of the God of Israel was there, like the vision that I saw (CE)in the valley.

Then he said to me, (CF)“Son of man, lift up your eyes now toward the north.” So I lifted up my eyes toward the north, and behold, north of (CG)the altar gate, in the entrance, was this (CH)image of jealousy. And he said to me, “Son of man, (CI)do you see what they are doing, (CJ)the great abominations that the house of Israel are committing here, (CK)to drive me far from my sanctuary? But you will see still greater abominations.”

And he brought me to the entrance of the court, and when I looked, behold, there was a hole in the wall. Then he said to me, “Son of man, (CL)dig in the wall.” So I dug in the wall, and behold, there was an entrance. And he said to me, “Go in, and see (CM)the vile abominations that they are committing here.” 10 So I went in and saw. And there, (CN)engraved on the wall all around, was (CO)every form of (CP)creeping things and loathsome beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel. 11 And before them stood (CQ)seventy men of (CR)the elders of the house of Israel, with Jaazaniah the son of (CS)Shaphan standing among them. Each had his censer in his hand, and (CT)the smoke of the cloud of incense went up. 12 Then he said to me, “Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel are doing (CU)in the dark, each (CV)in his room of pictures? For they say, (CW)‘The Lord does not see us, the Lord has forsaken the land.’” 13 He said also to me, (CX)“You will see still greater abominations that they commit.”

14 Then he brought me to (CY)the entrance of the north gate of the house of the Lord, and behold, there sat women weeping for Tammuz. 15 Then he said to me, “Have you seen this, O (CZ)son of man? (DA)You will see still greater abominations than these.”

16 And he brought me into (DB)the inner court of the house of the Lord. And behold, at the entrance of the temple of the Lord, (DC)between the (DD)porch and (DE)the altar, were about twenty-five men, (DF)with their backs to the temple of the Lord, and their faces toward the east, worshiping (DG)the sun toward the east. 17 Then he said to me, “Have you seen this, O (DH)son of man? Is it too light a thing for the house of Judah to commit (DI)the abominations that they commit here, that (DJ)they should fill the land with violence and (DK)provoke me still further to anger? Behold, they put the branch to their[m] nose. 18 Therefore (DL)I will act in wrath. (DM)My eye will not spare, nor will I have pity. (DN)And though they cry in my ears with a loud voice, I will not hear them.”

Idolaters Killed

Then he cried in my ears with a loud voice, saying, “Bring near the executioners of the city, (DO)each with his destroying weapon in his hand.” And behold, six men came from the direction of (DP)the upper gate, which faces north, each with his weapon for slaughter in his hand, and with them was (DQ)a man clothed in linen, with a writing case at his waist. And they went in and stood beside (DR)the bronze altar.

Now (DS)the glory of the God of Israel had gone up from the cherub on which it rested to (DT)the threshold of the house. And he called to (DU)the man clothed in linen, who had the writing case at his waist. And the Lord said to him, “Pass through the city, through Jerusalem, and (DV)put a mark on the foreheads of the men who (DW)sigh and groan over all the abominations that are committed in it.” And to (DX)the others he said in my hearing, “Pass through the city after him, and strike. (DY)Your eye shall not spare, and you shall show no pity. (DZ)Kill old men outright, young men and maidens, little children and women, but (EA)touch no one on whom is the mark. And (EB)begin at my sanctuary.” So they began with the elders who were before the house. Then he said to them, (EC)“Defile the house, and fill the courts with the slain. Go out.” So they went out and struck in the city. And while they were striking, and I was left alone, (ED)I fell upon my face, and cried, (EE)“Ah, Lord God! (EF)Will you destroy all the remnant of Israel (EG)in the outpouring of your wrath on Jerusalem?”

Then he said to me, (EH)“The guilt of the house of Israel and Judah is exceedingly great. (EI)The land is full of blood, and the city full of injustice. For (EJ)they say, ‘The Lord has forsaken the land, and the Lord does not see.’ 10 As for me, (EK)my eye will not spare, nor will I have pity; (EL)I will bring their deeds upon their heads.”

11 And behold, (EM)the man clothed in linen, with the writing case at his waist, brought back word, saying, “I have done as you commanded me.”

Hebrews 5

For every high priest chosen from among men (A)is appointed to act on behalf of men (B)in relation to God, (C)to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. (D)He can deal gently with the ignorant and wayward, since he himself (E)is beset with weakness. Because of this he is obligated to offer sacrifice for his own sins (F)just as he does for those of the people. And (G)no one takes this honor for himself, but only when called by God, (H)just as Aaron was.

So also Christ (I)did not exalt himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed by him who said to him,

(J)“You are my Son,
today I have begotten you”;

as he says also in another place,

(K)“You are a priest forever,
after the order of Melchizedek.”

In the days of his flesh, (L)Jesus[a] offered up prayers and supplications, (M)with loud cries and tears, to him (N)who was able to save him from death, and (O)he was heard because of his reverence. Although (P)he was a son, (Q)he learned obedience through what he suffered. And (R)being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him, 10 being designated by God a high priest (S)after the order of Melchizedek.

Warning Against Apostasy

11 About this we have much to say, and it is (T)hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. 12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again (U)the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need (V)milk, not solid food, 13 for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is (W)a child. 14 But solid food is for (X)the mature, for those who have their powers (Y)of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.

Psalm 105:1-15

Tell of All His Wondrous Works

105 (A)Oh give thanks to the Lord; (B)call upon his name;
(C)make known his deeds among the peoples!
Sing to him, sing praises to him;
(D)tell of all his wondrous works!
Glory in his holy name;
let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice!
Seek the Lord and his (E)strength;
(F)seek his presence continually!
Remember the (G)wondrous works that he has done,
his miracles, and (H)the judgments he uttered,
O offspring of (I)Abraham, his servant,
children of Jacob, his (J)chosen ones!

He is the Lord our God;
his (K)judgments are in all the earth.
He (L)remembers his covenant forever,
the word that he commanded, for (M)a thousand generations,
(N)the covenant that he made with Abraham,
his (O)sworn promise to Isaac,
10 which he confirmed to (P)Jacob as a statute,
to Israel as an everlasting covenant,
11 saying, (Q)“To you I will give the land of Canaan
as (R)your portion for an inheritance.”

12 When they were (S)few in number,
of little account, and (T)sojourners in it,
13 wandering from nation to nation,
from one kingdom to another people,
14 he (U)allowed no one to oppress them;
he (V)rebuked kings on their account,
15 saying, (W)“Touch not my anointed ones,
do my prophets no harm!”

Ezekiel 3:16-6:14, Hebrews 4:1-16, Psalms 104:24-35, Proverbs 26:27

Today is the 2nd day of November welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian it is fantastic to be here with you today as we get ourselves moved into this 11th month of the year. We’ve been transitioning through quite a bit of territory but we’re gonna camp out in the book of Ezekiel for a while in the Old Testament as well as the letter to the Hebrews in the New Testament. So, today we’re reading from the English standard version. Ezekiel chapter 3 verse 16 through 6 verse 14.

Commentary:

Alright. So, in the book of Hebrews today we encounter a very very famous passage of Scripture – “for the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and of marrow and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart” So, that certainly gives us a bit of context for why we show up here around the Global Campfire every day and why we would try to set aside all of the distractions for a little while, so that the word of God could wash over us and into our lives so that we could actually be paying attention to it. It gives us a great amount of context for why we would do that. And let’s look at what it says it’s doing or that it is. The word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword. So, let’s just look at those two. This is a living document which doesn’t mean that your copy of the Scriptures snores at night, right, because it's…It has a beating heart and its human. It means that over the ages, it still does something to the souls of mankind, right? So, when we come here and immerse ourselves in the Scriptures sometimes it tells us exactly what the next step for us is. Sometimes we think it’s saying nothing to us, but it is within us, transforming things. And sometimes we can go through a passage of Scripture this year and then come by again next year and it speaks volumes in and different way - alive, living and active. And sharper than any two-edged sword, so we get the concept of a sword, a double-edged sword which means it’s sharp on both sides. So, no matter what direction you’re swinging in you have a powerful blade that can…that can cut through the crap in our lives. We just have to be cognizant that this is…as powerful as a double edge sword. And, so, you take the Bible or portions of the Scriptures, you start swinging them at people then…yeah…people get cut. What we need to understand is that that double edge sword is to cut through the clutter and the confusion and the gray in our own experience because, as the Scripture continues, it pierces to the division of soul and spirit, which…there isn’t a time that I encounter this Scripture, and certainly we encounter it every year when we pass by Hebrews, but this is a popular Scripture, so we hear it many many times through the course of a year. It’s quoted often. And when I hear it I think. Where is the division of soul and of spirit? Who can…who can even point to where that is? It’s…wherever that is however that is, it's…it’s at the depths of us. It’s at the essence of us. We don’t have any….there’s no x-ray to find where soul and spirit divide. We may be able to find where joints and marrow, divide, but not of soul and spirit. And the Scripture says that the word of God can pierce to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow. In other words, it can touch everything about us. In fact, the Scripture goes on to say it can discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And it does. Does it not? Has it…I mean if you’ve been around here for very long the Bible…the Bible isn’t afraid to speak the truth, it isn’t afraid to look us in the eye, it doesn’t look away, it doesn’t pander, it just is there speaking the truth. And often in someone else’s story from a very very long time ago we find our own thoughts and motivations. The intentions of our own hearts are exposed because of the Scripture. This is why we’re showing up every day. This is how powerful this is. And that’s the end of that very famous passage. But the verse following that…well…let me just read the whole thing in context. “But the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And no creature is hidden from His site, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.” So, in other words, God already knows, He can already see into our soul and spirit. He can already see the thoughts and intentions of the heart, but the word of God can reveal them to us. The word of God can bring to the surface the things we are trying to hide, even from ourselves or the things that we are trying to avoid, all of the disassociations, all of the stuff that we’re trying to stuff down and ignore, the stuff that gets shoved down into the basement of our hearts, the word of God can even go there.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You yet again for the Scriptures and for the ability to show up and meet around this Global Campfire every day, that the word of God might penetrate us, that it might expose what’s really going on and cut through so that we might see the truth that is being offered to us. So, often we’re trying to get our facts and truths from places like social media and what we’re doing is regurgitating opinions. But when we come here there is no pandering, there is no agenda, there is no how many likes can I get, there is no how good can this make me look. You’re just speaking the truth in a tangible way in a way that we can hold in our hands. And we thank You for that gift and we invite Your Holy Spirit to lead us deeper in our understanding of this gift. And as we grow in understanding may our very lives be transformed so that we are transformed by the power of Your word that can penetrate into the very depths of who we are. And we open ourselves and welcome that. Come Holy Spirit we pray. In the name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Good morning Daily Audio Bible this is Michael from Harrisburg PA. It’s the first time I’ve ever called in. I’ve been listening to Daily Audio Bible for five years on and off and this year especially it’s been my rock. In January both my mom and my dad passed. My Grandfather also passed in December. And then on my birthday August 28th my mentor my best friend drowned in the Swatara Creek. And I felt like I was…no one else could understand what I was going through and I listened to the community prayer this morning, the 20…I guess it would have been the 30th or the 29th I guess it would have been last week and I heard a woman’s voice I think it was either Tamberly or Kimberly and I heard that she both lost her mother and her father. And I just want to say sister that I love you, I’m wrapping my arms around you and praying that God continues to show peace past all understanding because that is…that is exactly what you will be experiencing. Just be strong, find those who you love and can talk with and just know that your…your request touched my heart and allowed me to call for the first time. Have a great day.

Good morning DAB family my name is Island Girl. I have been listening to this podcast on and off for probably about 2 ½ years now but it’s my first-time calling in. I’m calling in because I know the power of prayer. I’m calling in because I need the family to help me, please to pray. My mother is in the hospital. She has been battling the COVID-19 virus and she has some underlying issues such as diabetes and hypertension going along with it. I called because I know the power of prayer. I called because I know that where two or three are gathered touching anything then God is in the midst to bless, and God is in the midst to hear and deliver. So, I’m asking you please to help me to pray…

Hi DAB family it’s October 30th this is Child of God. I just heard Tamberly’s request for prayer after the loss of her parents and I can so relate. I still have both my parents. They’re living at home. My mom is 90 my dad’s 94 but it’s a struggle for them. And they are so dear to our family and I…my heart just goes out to you in your loss. I’m lifting you up.

Yes, my name is Rodney. I became paralyzed like six months ago not knowing, you know…I’m 38 years old, just new to me. I’m just gave my life back to the Lord two Sundays ago and about three weeks ago my wife left me. We were married 11 years. We have a daughter together. Things, you know, hit me real hard at one time and, you know, I’m still getting over the, you know, everything, you know, I just…I gave up and now I’ve got bed sores I’m back in the hospital again. But if you could just keep me on y'all’s prayers and just pray, you know, that my wife open her eyes and see that I need her or if not if the Lord don’t have that in his plan then, you know, to just let me have a peace of mind. I thank you all very much and I do. This audio bible has helped me tremendously. I listen to the proverbs every morning and I listen to the chron…chronicle thing every day and it's…it’s a blessing to me and I thank you very much and hope everybody has a blessed day.

Hey this is Andrew from Washington just calling in for the person who called October 25th asking for prayers for struggles in life feeling bad about trying glorify and praise God and then falling back into the same struggles. Just want to say my friend you’re not alone. I'm…I’m there with you as many of us are. There’s an army of prayer warriors behind you and with you praying for you such as God’s Smile, Tony truck driver, Lorinda from Florida, Radiant Rachel, Blind Tony, Victoria Soldier, the Hardin family, Aussie Bear from Australia, Kingdom Seeker Daniel, Immaculate Margaret, the list…the list goes the list goes on and on if there’s more time but we hear you and God hears you and you have Jesus who’s your defender. So, I encourage you to come boldly to the throne…to the throne of grace. Ask him every time…every single time you go through a struggle, and you’ll see victory. So, don’t give up. Keep pushing forward, keep fighting. God bless and may your day be full of grace today.

Thank you God for giving me everything that I’ve asked
you freed me from my demons and my true self is now unmasked
time is running short now as they say this too shall pass
I praise and thank you constantly there’s not much that I ask
the relationship I have with you I pray will always last
last is first and first his last a simple little verse
some men go from good to bad some from bad to worse
help me just be patient God and follow where you lead
help me not be selfish and consumed with lust, pride, and greed
where the two are gathered I know that you’ll be there
keep my mind’s eye simple God strip my ego bear
make me over in your image God I’m flesh but still I’m clay
fill me with your spirit God and renew my strength each day
one and one are usually two but you and I are one
finish God the work in me you clearly have begun
