Numbers 10:1-11:23

The Silver Trumpets

10 The Lord said to Moses: ²“Make two trumpets^(A) of hammered silver, and use them for calling the community^(B) together and for having the camps set out.^(C) ³When both are sounded, the whole community is to assemble before you at the entrance to the tent of meeting. ⁴If only one is sounded, the leaders^(D)—the heads of the clans of Israel—are to assemble before you. ⁵When a trumpet blast is sounded, the tribes camping on the east are to set out.^(E) ⁶At the sounding of a second blast, the camps on the south are to set out.^(F) The blast will be the signal for setting out. ⁷To gather the assembly, blow the trumpets,^(G) but not with the signal for setting out.^(H)

⁸“The sons of Aaron, the priests, are to blow the trumpets. This is to be a lasting ordinance for you and the generations to come.^(I) ⁹When you go into battle in your own land against an enemy who is oppressing you,^(J) sound a blast on the trumpets.^(K) Then you will be remembered^(L) by the Lord your God and rescued from your enemies.^(M) ¹⁰Also at your times of rejoicing—your appointed festivals and New Moon feasts^(N)—you are to sound the trumpets^(O) over your burnt offerings^(P) and fellowship offerings,^(Q) and they will be a memorial for you before your God. I am the Lord your God.^(R)”

The Israelites Leave Sinai

¹¹On the twentieth day of the second month of the second year,^(S) the cloud lifted^(T) from above the tabernacle of the covenant law.^(U) ¹²Then the Israelites set out from the Desert of Sinai and traveled from place to place until the cloud came to rest in the Desert of Paran.^(V) ¹³They set out, this first time, at the Lord’s command through Moses.^(W)

¹⁴The divisions of the camp of Judah went first, under their standard.^(X) Nahshon son of Amminadab^(Y) was in command. ¹⁵Nethanel son of Zuar was over the division of the tribe^(Z) of Issachar,^(AA) ¹⁶and Eliab son of Helon^(AB) was over the division of the tribe of Zebulun.^(AC) ¹⁷Then the tabernacle was taken down, and the Gershonites and Merarites, who carried it, set out.^(AD)

¹⁸The divisions of the camp of Reuben^(AE) went next, under their standard.^(AF) Elizur son of Shedeur^(AG) was in command. ¹⁹Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai was over the division of the tribe of Simeon,^(AH) ²⁰and Eliasaph son of Deuel was over the division of the tribe of Gad.^(AI) ²¹Then the Kohathites^(AJ) set out, carrying the holy things.^(AK) The tabernacle was to be set up before they arrived.^(AL)

²²The divisions of the camp of Ephraim^(AM) went next, under their standard. Elishama son of Ammihud^(AN) was in command. ²³Gamaliel son of Pedahzur was over the division of the tribe of Manasseh,^(AO) ²⁴and Abidan son of Gideoni was over the division of the tribe of Benjamin.^(AP)

²⁵Finally, as the rear guard^(AQ) for all the units, the divisions of the camp of Dan set out under their standard. Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai^(AR) was in command. ²⁶Pagiel son of Okran was over the division of the tribe of Asher,^(AS) ²⁷and Ahira son of Enan was over the division of the tribe of Naphtali.^(AT) ²⁸This was the order of march for the Israelite divisions as they set out.

²⁹Now Moses said to Hobab^(AU) son of Reuel^(AV) the Midianite, Moses’ father-in-law,^(AW) “We are setting out for the place about which the Lord said, ‘I will give it to you.’^(AX) Come with us and we will treat you well, for the Lord has promised good things to Israel.”

³⁰He answered, “No, I will not go;^(AY) I am going back to my own land and my own people.^(AZ)”

³¹But Moses said, “Please do not leave us. You know where we should camp in the wilderness, and you can be our eyes.^(BA) ³²If you come with us, we will share with you^(BB) whatever good things the Lord gives us.^(BC)”

³³So they set out^(BD) from the mountain of the Lord and traveled for three days. The ark of the covenant of the Lord^(BE) went before them during those three days to find them a place to rest.^(BF) ³⁴The cloud of the Lord was over them by day when they set out from the camp.^(BG)

³⁵Whenever the ark set out, Moses said,

“Rise up,^(BH) Lord!
May your enemies be scattered;^(BI)
may your foes flee before you.^(BJ)”^(BK)

³⁶Whenever it came to rest, he said,

“Return,^(BL) Lord,
to the countless thousands of Israel.^(BM)”

Fire From the Lord

11 Now the people complained^(BN) about their hardships in the hearing of the Lord,^(BO) and when he heard them his anger was aroused.^(BP) Then fire from the Lord burned among them^(BQ) and consumed^(BR) some of the outskirts of the camp. ²When the people cried out to Moses, he prayed^(BS) to the Lord^(BT) and the fire died down. ³So that place was called Taberah,^[a]^(BU) because fire from the Lord had burned among them.^(BV)

Quail From the Lord

⁴The rabble with them began to crave other food,^(BW) and again the Israelites started wailing^(BX) and said, “If only we had meat to eat! ⁵We remember the fish we ate in Egypt at no cost—also the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic.^(BY) ⁶But now we have lost our appetite; we never see anything but this manna!^(BZ)”

⁷The manna was like coriander seed^(CA) and looked like resin.^(CB) ⁸The people went around gathering it,^(CC) and then ground it in a hand mill or crushed it in a mortar. They cooked it in a pot or made it into loaves. And it tasted like something made with olive oil. ⁹When the dew^(CD) settled on the camp at night, the manna also came down.

¹⁰Moses heard the people of every family wailing^(CE) at the entrance to their tents. The Lord became exceedingly angry, and Moses was troubled. ¹¹He asked the Lord, “Why have you brought this trouble^(CF) on your servant? What have I done to displease you that you put the burden of all these people on me?^(CG) ¹²Did I conceive all these people? Did I give them birth? Why do you tell me to carry them in my arms, as a nurse carries an infant,^(CH) to the land you promised on oath^(CI) to their ancestors?^(CJ) ¹³Where can I get meat for all these people?^(CK) They keep wailing to me, ‘Give us meat to eat!’ ¹⁴I cannot carry all these people by myself; the burden is too heavy for me.^(CL) ¹⁵If this is how you are going to treat me, please go ahead and kill me^(CM)—if I have found favor in your eyes—and do not let me face my own ruin.”

¹⁶The Lord said to Moses: “Bring me seventy of Israel’s elders^(CN) who are known to you as leaders and officials among the people.^(CO) Have them come to the tent of meeting,^(CP) that they may stand there with you. ¹⁷I will come down and speak with you^(CQ) there, and I will take some of the power of the Spirit that is on you and put it on them.^(CR) They will share the burden of the people with you so that you will not have to carry it alone.^(CS)

¹⁸“Tell the people: ‘Consecrate yourselves^(CT) in preparation for tomorrow, when you will eat meat. The Lord heard you when you wailed,^(CU) “If only we had meat to eat! We were better off in Egypt!”^(CV) Now the Lord will give you meat,^(CW) and you will eat it. ¹⁹You will not eat it for just one day, or two days, or five, ten or twenty days, ²⁰but for a whole month—until it comes out of your nostrils and you loathe it^(CX)—because you have rejected the Lord,^(CY) who is among you, and have wailed before him, saying, “Why did we ever leave Egypt?”’”^(CZ)

²¹But Moses said, “Here I am among six hundred thousand men^(DA) on foot, and you say, ‘I will give them meat to eat for a whole month!’ ²²Would they have enough if flocks and herds were slaughtered for them? Would they have enough if all the fish in the sea were caught for them?”^(DB)

²³The Lord answered Moses, “Is the Lord’s arm too short?^(DC) Now you will see whether or not what I say will come true for you.^(DD)”

Jesus Anointed at Bethany^(A)^(B)^(C)

14 Now the Passover^(D) and the Festival of Unleavened Bread were only two days away, and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were scheming to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him.^(E) ²“But not during the festival,” they said, “or the people may riot.”

³While he was in Bethany,^(F) reclining at the table in the home of Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head.^(G)

⁴Some of those present were saying indignantly to one another, “Why this waste of perfume? ⁵It could have been sold for more than a year’s wages^[a] and the money given to the poor.” And they rebuked her harshly.

⁶“Leave her alone,” said Jesus. “Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. ⁷The poor you will always have with you,^[b] and you can help them any time you want.^(H) But you will not always have me. ⁸She did what she could. She poured perfume on my body beforehand to prepare for my burial.^(I) ⁹Truly I tell you, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world,^(J) what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.”

¹⁰Then Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve,^(K) went to the chief priests to betray Jesus to them.^(L) ¹¹They were delighted to hear this and promised to give him money. So he watched for an opportunity to hand him over.

The Last Supper^(M)^(N)

¹²On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, when it was customary to sacrifice the Passover lamb,^(O) Jesus’ disciples asked him, “Where do you want us to go and make preparations for you to eat the Passover?”

¹³So he sent two of his disciples, telling them, “Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him. ¹⁴Say to the owner of the house he enters, ‘The Teacher asks: Where is my guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’ ¹⁵He will show you a large room upstairs,^(P) furnished and ready. Make preparations for us there.”

¹⁶The disciples left, went into the city and found things just as Jesus had told them. So they prepared the Passover.

¹⁷When evening came, Jesus arrived with the Twelve. ¹⁸While they were reclining at the table eating, he said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me—one who is eating with me.”

¹⁹They were saddened, and one by one they said to him, “Surely you don’t mean me?”

²⁰“It is one of the Twelve,” he replied, “one who dips bread into the bowl with me.^(Q) ²¹The Son of Man^(R) will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.”

Numbers 8:1-9:23, Mark 13:14-37, Psalm 50:1-23, Proverbs 10:29-30

Today is the seventh day of March, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian, it is fantastic to be here with you today, as we continue to move our way, step-by-step through the week that we are in, and through the season that we are in, and through the Scriptures, obviously, which is why we gather around the Global Campfire every day. And so, it is a joy to be in your presence today and all of us to be in the presence of the Lord, as we immerse ourselves in the Scriptures. So, let’s dive in, we are working on our way through the Book of Numbers, and we are observing everything get set up. There is a destination in mind here, that these children of Israel are to embark upon, a destiny, a place, it’s called the Promised Land, the Land of Promise. And now they are being equipped, not only for the journey but what things are supposed to look like when they get there. And so, let’s pick up the story today, Numbers chapters eight and nine.

Commentary:

Okay, let’s take a brief look at this Proverb that we just, that we just read. The way of the Lord is a strong hold for the honorable, but destruction awaits evildoers. The righteous will never be shaken, but the wicked will not remain on the earth. We read a Proverb like this and immediately gravitate toward the promise, the way of the Lord is a strong hold for the honorable, the righteous will never be shaken. And so, we hold onto those things, standing firm in them, believing that we are the honorable and righteous one’s, but there is a dark contrast here. The opposite is true, the way of the Lord is the stronghold for the honorable, but the way of the Lord is destruction for evildoers, the wicked will not remain on the earth, which gives us insight into what God is doing. God is putting back together what has been broken. He is restoring what has been destroyed. He is healing humanity from within, bringing humanity back into relationship with Himself. Part of that process is ridding humanity of the things that pull it away from how it was made, pulling humans away from God: deception, wickedness, evil. These things do not stand in the presence of God. God’s righteousness does not permit evil, evil breaks things. Wickedness is an adversary to redemption. So, we can certainly stand on the promises of God and the wisdom in the Proverbs, but we can just apply this to ourselves in our own struggles and trials and think that this is all about us. When actually we have a view of what God is doing, separating us from wickedness and destruction that we might be honorable and righteous. It’s not just about us getting through today and getting what we want out of this week. It’s about God’s work of redemption in the world that we get to participate in and that we get to open ourselves to, that we might be transformed. May we open ourselves fully to the voice of wisdom in our lives today and become more and more aware that what God is after is our wholeness and for us to be whole, that which is wicked, or evil must not be a part of our story. And He will come after these things and walk with us through these things, but sometimes we get ourselves entangled and if we actually want to walk into freedom, it will probably be a process that we engage in, that we stick to, that walk in a straight line out of bondage and into freedom. If we’re aware of what’s going on, then we learn to endure, which the Scriptures, that is such an overarching theme in the Bible. We won’t be able to escape it as we continue forward. So, let’s think about it today because it kinda brings up the posture of Jesus in our lives, we’ve watched Jesus do a lot of things. Most the time He asks, what do you want me to do for you? Do you think I can do this? Do you believe I can do this? Do you want this? It’s almost as if the question is being asked to us. Do you want to be free? Are you willing to trust the process?

Prayer:

And Holy Spirit, we invite You into that. Life can be so confusing that we just know when things are comforting and feel good, and we know when things are, bring anxiety and feel bad. And so, we have that pretty clear, and we fight against things that make us, make us anxious, make us feel bad. We’re supposed to cast these cares on You, but that’s more than just we need to get out of this feeling it’s like we need to cast all of this on You. It’s pulling us away. It’s pulling us around the margins of deception, it’s pulling us into places that we don’t belong, and we certainly can’t navigate without Your Holy Spirit. And so, we’re inviting You, that we might have eyes to see what You are doing in our lives and what You are after, what You are touching, what You are asking us to open ourselves up to You in. We trust You. There is no other hope. We are utterly dependent upon You, and we know this is true. But we functionally live so much of our lives as if were our own sovereign Lord until we get ourselves into trouble. May we walk with You on the narrow path that leads to life, along the paths of wisdom, wherever they may lead, knowing that if we are together walking with You, there is no other safe place to be. So, we open ourselves up to Your work in our lives, making us honorable, making us righteous. We pray, in Jesus name. Amen.

Hello, my name is Rachell. I’ve been listening to Daily Audio Bible since I was a teenager but never actually stayed committed to the whole year. I always fell off. Never felt interested in trying to hold onto it. Except for these past few weeks, now, in my young adulthood. Trying to get back into it. Trying to remain faithful. And the Lord’s word has been such a comfort for me these past few weeks and what I’ve been going through. And I’ve been listening to the prayers at the end, I never done that before. And I’ve been hearing the prayers of other believers calling in and the words of encouragement. And it’s just been a blessing to hear. And I never really thought about calling in before but today, on the 25th of February, I heard a plea from a mother asking for prayer for her daughter, Tricia. And I know exactly what it’s like in Tricia’s place. I know exactly what it’s like to not want to live anymore. And I also know what it’s like in her mother’s shoes to plead and pray for somebody who doesn’t want to live anymore as well. I pray Lord that You will be with Tricia, to give her peace that she needs. And she will rely on You when she feels like she can’t walk anymore. She knows that You’re carrying her. I pray Father, that when the enemy tells her lies and deceit, she won’t believe it cause she finds her peace in You. I pray that You will put resources and loved ones in her path, God. And that she would just really trust in You, God. I pray that You strengthen her mother, during this time and give her the words that she needs to say to her daughter. Let her know that she is not alone in this, as well. I thank You Lord for all things You do provide. For all the prayers that have been said for Tricia.

Hi, Daily Audio Bible family. My name is David, I’m from Kansas. And I’m calling in to ask for prayer. A little bit about my testimony, I was, my dad’s a pastor, a great pastor. And I had a strong faith growing up and but then after I graduated, I strayed, and I got so far from God, I couldn’t even feel Him anymore. I then came back, God woke me up, changed my life. Since then, I’ve had a brain injury that has left me with many different issues but one of the biggest is I am extremely anxious all the time. I have panic attacks often. Just because of what the possibilities of what this injury can do. I just, I found myself often doubting my faith and I teach the children church at our church. I help with a group we have called Awana’s, and I read my Bible daily, I listen to Daily Audio Bible, which is just been a huge blessing. I find myself understanding more and more of God’s nature. But in my moments of anxiety and weakness I seem to forget all that. And I, I just become very fearful. I just would ask for prayer for that. That I would remember in those times of weakness that God is with me, no matter what. I just wanna say thank you guys for your prayers. All that you guys do as a community. Thank you.

Hello DAB family, this is Sheila. Two really quick prayer requests. I am still looking for a job and I have an interview today. I just pray that God would find me the right job and that His will would be done in my life. I want to serve Him and please Him and I want to enjoy my job, I want to bless so many others. I want God to bless so many others through me. So, please pray for a job for me. And the second thing is really a big prayer request. All my family is Hindu. Only my cousin and I, really, became Christians, a while ago. We both came from a Hindu family and this past weekend we had an opportunity to witness to about 15 of our family members about Jesus and Christianity. Meanwhile, they were attacking us and trying to point out all the wrong things about Christianity and about Jesus and our beliefs. And they’re so prideful about Hinduism and all that they believe in. I just pray that God would bring each one of them to their knees and would humble them and would reveal Himself in a unique personal, supernatural way that God does. My cousin and I are just in prayer for that and there’s often so much persecution and attacks and we just pray that God would fight these battles and would water the seeds I’ve planted. Thank you so much for your prayers.

Good morning, Daily Audio Bible. I’m Tyler from Kentucky. I just wanted to say how encouraging you all are. The last 17 months I’ve been in jail, wrongly accused and innocent of charges. But while I was in there, I lost everything. But through the tablet at the jail that I could purchase, I was able to listen to the Daily Audio Bible, those 17 months. And through that and other sermons and stuff, I was able to grow closer to God. And I can’t say enough how much of a blessing to hear your all’s prayers and I hear Brian read the Bible. It’s took God to break me down to every, to below bare bones, just for me to get right with Him. I asked for you to pray for my marriage. We’ve been separated for about four years. Last week she said that she’s filing for divorce. She’s seeing somebody else and she’s beyond happy. And I don’t believe in divorce, and I will do anything in my power to save this marriage. I just pray and ask God that He do His will and do a miracle in my marriage for His glory. Thank you all. Bye.

Hi, I’m calling to encourage the young lady that said that she’s been dealing with mental challenges for all of her life. She hasn’t been able to keep a job and she’s dealing with anxiety and she’s on disability and she’s trying, you know, the disability is running out. I want to encourage you really quick to continue to do what your doctor says: take your medicine, in addition, take your medicine, go see your therapist, whatever you got to do. In addition to that, make sure you are digging into the word of God. Pull out God’s promises for you that He has secured for you in his death, burial and resurrection. Open your mouth and decree them over life on a daily basis, even if you have to do it by an hourly basis, if you gotta do it by a minute-by-minute basis. Decree these over your life. Continue, I already said continue, see your therapist but continue to see your therapist and make sure you plan. Make a plan to get back to work because you can do it. Declare over your life as often as you need to that I am free. That’ I’m, say it, say it out of your mouth, I’m free, I’m free from fear, I’m free from anxiety. And after you have prayed and sought God and you know, hopefully you have a support system or someone to talk to about anything that you can sit and pray with you. And even if you don’t ask God, God would just provide it for you. Do what you need to do even if you have to be afraid, do it and declare over your life that you are free and You will be declaring over yourself that you have overcome. You have a authority. Don’t be scared of the devil, let the devil be scared of you sister. And I love you and people at the Daily Audio Bible love you and are praying for you.

Numbers 8-9

Setting Up the Lamps

8 The Lord said to Moses, ²“Speak to Aaron and say to him, ‘When you set up the lamps, see that all seven light up the area in front of the lampstand.^(A)’”

³Aaron did so; he set up the lamps so that they faced forward on the lampstand, just as the Lord commanded Moses. ⁴This is how the lampstand was made: It was made of hammered gold^(B)—from its base to its blossoms. The lampstand was made exactly like the pattern^(C) the Lord had shown Moses.

The Setting Apart of the Levites

⁵The Lord said to Moses: ⁶“Take the Levites from among all the Israelites and make them ceremonially clean.^(D) ⁷To purify them, do this: Sprinkle the water of cleansing^(E) on them; then have them shave their whole bodies^(F) and wash their clothes.^(G) And so they will purify themselves.^(H) ⁸Have them take a young bull with its grain offering of the finest flour mixed with olive oil;^(I) then you are to take a second young bull for a sin offering.^[a]^(J) ⁹Bring the Levites to the front of the tent of meeting^(K) and assemble the whole Israelite community.^(L) ¹⁰You are to bring the Levites before the Lord, and the Israelites are to lay their hands on them.^(M) ¹¹Aaron is to present the Levites before the Lord as a wave offering^(N) from the Israelites, so that they may be ready to do the work of the Lord.

¹²“Then the Levites are to lay their hands on the heads of the bulls,^(O) using one for a sin offering^(P) to the Lord and the other for a burnt offering,^(Q) to make atonement^(R) for the Levites. ¹³Have the Levites stand in front of Aaron and his sons and then present them as a wave offering^(S) to the Lord. ¹⁴In this way you are to set the Levites apart from the other Israelites, and the Levites will be mine.^(T)

¹⁵“After you have purified the Levites and presented them as a wave offering,^(U) they are to come to do their work at the tent of meeting.^(V) ¹⁶They are the Israelites who are to be given wholly to me. I have taken them as my own in place of the firstborn,^(W) the first male offspring^(X) from every Israelite woman. ¹⁷Every firstborn male in Israel, whether human or animal,^(Y) is mine. When I struck down all the firstborn in Egypt, I set them apart for myself.^(Z) ¹⁸And I have taken the Levites in place of all the firstborn sons in Israel.^(AA) ¹⁹From among all the Israelites, I have given the Levites as gifts to Aaron and his sons^(AB) to do the work at the tent of meeting on behalf of the Israelites^(AC) and to make atonement for them^(AD) so that no plague will strike the Israelites when they go near the sanctuary.”

²⁰Moses, Aaron and the whole Israelite community did with the Levites just as the Lord commanded Moses. ²¹The Levites purified themselves and washed their clothes.^(AE) Then Aaron presented them as a wave offering before the Lord and made atonement^(AF) for them to purify them.^(AG) ²²After that, the Levites came to do their work^(AH) at the tent of meeting under the supervision of Aaron and his sons. They did with the Levites just as the Lord commanded Moses.

²³The Lord said to Moses, ²⁴“This applies to the Levites: Men twenty-five years old or more^(AI) shall come to take part in the work at the tent of meeting,^(AJ) ²⁵but at the age of fifty,^(AK) they must retire from their regular service and work no longer. ²⁶They may assist their brothers in performing their duties at the tent of meeting, but they themselves must not do the work.^(AL) This, then, is how you are to assign the responsibilities of the Levites.”

The Passover

9 The Lord spoke to Moses in the Desert of Sinai in the first month^(AM) of the second year after they came out of Egypt.^(AN) He said, ²“Have the Israelites celebrate the Passover^(AO) at the appointed time.^(AP) ³Celebrate it at the appointed time, at twilight on the fourteenth day of this month,^(AQ) in accordance with all its rules and regulations.^(AR)”

⁴So Moses told the Israelites to celebrate the Passover,^(AS) ⁵and they did so in the Desert of Sinai^(AT) at twilight on the fourteenth day of the first month.^(AU) The Israelites did everything just as the Lord commanded Moses.^(AV)

⁶But some of them could not celebrate the Passover on that day because they were ceremonially unclean^(AW) on account of a dead body.^(AX) So they came to Moses and Aaron^(AY) that same day ⁷and said to Moses, “We have become unclean because of a dead body, but why should we be kept from presenting the Lord’s offering with the other Israelites at the appointed time?^(AZ)”

⁸Moses answered them, “Wait until I find out what the Lord commands concerning you.”^(BA)

⁹Then the Lord said to Moses, ¹⁰“Tell the Israelites: ‘When any of you or your descendants are unclean because of a dead body^(BB) or are away on a journey, they are still to celebrate^(BC) the Lord’s Passover, ¹¹but they are to do it on the fourteenth day of the second month^(BD) at twilight. They are to eat the lamb, together with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.^(BE) ¹²They must not leave any of it till morning^(BF) or break any of its bones.^(BG) When they celebrate the Passover, they must follow all the regulations.^(BH) ¹³But if anyone who is ceremonially clean and not on a journey fails to celebrate the Passover, they must be cut off from their people^(BI) for not presenting the Lord’s offering at the appointed time. They will bear the consequences of their sin.

¹⁴“‘A foreigner^(BJ) residing among you is also to celebrate the Lord’s Passover in accordance with its rules and regulations. You must have the same regulations for both the foreigner and the native-born.’”

The Cloud Above the Tabernacle

¹⁵On the day the tabernacle, the tent of the covenant law,^(BK) was set up,^(BL) the cloud^(BM) covered it. From evening till morning the cloud above the tabernacle looked like fire.^(BN) ¹⁶That is how it continued to be; the cloud covered it, and at night it looked like fire.^(BO) ¹⁷Whenever the cloud lifted from above the tent, the Israelites set out;^(BP) wherever the cloud settled, the Israelites encamped.^(BQ) ¹⁸At the Lord’s command the Israelites set out, and at his command they encamped. As long as the cloud stayed over the tabernacle, they remained^(BR) in camp. ¹⁹When the cloud remained over the tabernacle a long time, the Israelites obeyed the Lord’s order^(BS) and did not set out.^(BT) ²⁰Sometimes the cloud was over the tabernacle only a few days; at the Lord’s command they would encamp, and then at his command they would set out. ²¹Sometimes the cloud stayed only from evening till morning, and when it lifted in the morning, they set out. Whether by day or by night, whenever the cloud lifted, they set out. ²²Whether the cloud stayed over the tabernacle for two days or a month or a year, the Israelites would remain in camp and not set out; but when it lifted, they would set out. ²³At the Lord’s command they encamped, and at the Lord’s command they set out. They obeyed the Lord’s order, in accordance with his command through Moses.

¹⁴“When you see ‘the abomination that causes desolation’^[a]^(A) standing where it^[b] does not belong—let the reader understand—then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. ¹⁵Let no one on the housetop go down or enter the house to take anything out. ¹⁶Let no one in the field go back to get their cloak. ¹⁷How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers!^(B) ¹⁸Pray that this will not take place in winter, ¹⁹because those will be days of distress unequaled from the beginning, when God created the world,^(C) until now—and never to be equaled again.^(D)

The Day and Hour Unknown

Today is the 6^th day of March, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I’m Brian it is wonderful to be here with you around the Global Campfire today as we gather to take the next step forward together. And our next step forward leads us back into the book of Numbers. And today we will read Numbers chapters 6 and 7.

Commentary:

Okay. So, we spent a generous portion of our time in the book of Numbers today recounting the offerings that were brought before the tabernacle. Once the tabernacle had been set up and furnished and consecrated all of the tribes brought the same gifts and the covenantal and sacrificial work of the tabernacle was begun. But just before that a blessing. And blessings change the atmosphere of things. And, so, the book of Numbers, says, “the Lord spoke to Moses and said, tell Aaron and his sons, the priestly family this is how you are to bless the Israelites. May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord look with favor on you and give you peace. In this way they will pronounce my name over the Israelites, and I will bless them.” And until this very day in…in…in many different settings a priestly blessing like this, if not this exact same wording is used. We call this a benediction. And when you are speaking words like this of blessing you cannot be simultaneously cursing the person that you are blessing. These are not words of warning. These are not words of cursing. These are words of blessing, and they actually have impact. They can affect the atmosphere of our day. We read it as God gave the instructions to the Israelites now let me just speak it over us. “May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord look with favor on you and give you peace today.” That is a blessing over you, over me, over us, and not a curse and it brings comfort. What if…what if we were about the business of speaking blessings over those that we love and over those that we don’t instead of cursing because we spend a good generous amount of time spewing negativity out of our mouths that can just amount to cursing somebody. What if we bless them and not curse them? What would that change in the atmosphere of the home or of the relationship because we have the power to bless and the power to curse within ourselves, and they both come spewing out of our mouths. So, really some of the work for us to do today as we engage with this is to speak blessing over everybody today, to be a blessing to everyone today. Like today…just today…I’m not saying make this your lifestyle, although I would say that the Bible’s saying that. I’m just saying try a day out where you speak words of blessing and not cursing. If that works out well, do it tomorrow. What if we are agents of blessing revealing God’s love to the world, revealing His kingdom instead of giving voice to every curse, every frustration, every entanglement, everything that makes us feel low. What if we gave each other blessings today?

Prayer:

Father, we invite You into that. We can be extreme people in the same day, and this is…we will address some of these things directly because the Bible will bring them up directly as we continue our journey forward. We can bless and curse out of the same mouth on the same day, but as the Scriptures tell us this shouldn’t be. We shouldn’t be doing this. And, so, we ask forgiveness that we might bless as You have blessed us and cared for us with our words today. May we make it a goal to bless everyone we come into contact with we pray. In the name of Jesus’, we ask. Amen.

Numbers 6-7

Law of the Nazirites

6 Again the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ²“Say to the sons of Israel, ‘When a man or a woman makes a special vow, the vow of a Nazirite, that is, one separated and dedicated to the Lord, ³he shall abstain from wine and strong drink; he shall drink no vinegar, whether made from wine or strong drink, nor shall he drink any grape juice nor eat fresh or dried grapes.^(A) ⁴^[a]All the time of his separation he shall not eat anything produced from the grapevine, from the seeds even to the skins.

⁵‘All the time of the vow of his separation no razor shall be used on his head. Until the time of his separation to the Lord is completed, he shall be holy, and shall let the hair of his head grow long.

⁶‘All the time that he separates himself to the Lord he shall not go near a dead body. ⁷He shall not make himself [ceremonially] unclean for his father, mother, brother, or sister, when they die, because [the responsibility for] his separation to God is on his head. ⁸All the time of his separation he is holy to the Lord.

⁹‘If a man dies very suddenly beside him, and he defiles his dedicated head, then he shall shave his head on the day that he becomes [ceremonially] clean; he shall shave it on the seventh day [the end of the purification period]. ¹⁰On the eighth day he shall bring two turtledoves or two young pigeons to the priest, to the doorway of the Tent of Meeting (tabernacle). ¹¹The priest shall offer the one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering and make atonement for him concerning his sin because of the [dead] body. He shall consecrate his head the same day, ¹²and he shall dedicate himself to the Lord for the time of his separation and shall bring a male lamb a year old as a guilt offering; but the previous days will be void and lost, because his separation was defiled.

¹³‘Now this is the law of the Nazirite when the days of his separation and dedication are fulfilled: he shall bring the offering to the doorway of the Tent of Meeting (tabernacle). ¹⁴and he shall offer his gift to the Lord: one male lamb a year old without blemish as a burnt offering, and one female lamb a year old without blemish as a sin offering, and one ram without blemish as a peace offering, ¹⁵and a basket of unleavened bread, cakes of fine flour mixed with oil, and wafers of unleavened bread spread with oil, along with their grain offering and their drink offering. ¹⁶Then the priest shall present them before the Lord and shall offer the person’s sin offering and his burnt offering. ¹⁷He shall also offer the ram as a sacrifice of peace offerings to the Lord, together with the basket of unleavened bread; the priest shall offer also its grain offering and its drink offering. ¹⁸The Nazirite shall shave his dedicated head at the doorway of the Tent of Meeting (tabernacle), and take the dedicated hair of his head and put it on the fire which is under the sacrifice of the peace offerings. ¹⁹The priest shall take the boiled shoulder of the ram, and one unleavened [ring-shaped] loaf out of the basket, and one unleavened flat cake and shall put them on the hands of the Nazirite after he has shaved his dedicated hair. ²⁰Then the priest shall wave them as a wave offering before the Lord; they are a holy portion for the priest, together with the breast that is waved and the thigh that is offered by lifting up; and afterward the Nazirite may drink wine.’

²¹“This is the law for the ^[b]Nazirite who vows his offering to the Lord for his separation, besides what else ^[c]he is able to afford, according to the vow which he has vowed; so shall he do according to the law for his separation and abstinence [as a Nazirite].”^(B)

Aaron’s Benediction

²²Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ²³“Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, ‘This is the way you shall bless the Israelites. Say to them:

The Lord bless you, and keep you [protect you, sustain you, and guard you];

²⁵
The Lord make His face shine upon you [with favor],
And be gracious to you [surrounding you with lovingkindness];

²⁶
The Lord lift up His countenance (face) upon you [with divine approval],
And give you peace [a tranquil heart and life].’

²⁷So Aaron and his sons shall put My name upon the children of Israel, and I will bless them.”

Offerings of the Leaders

7 On the day that Moses had finished setting up the tabernacle and had anointed and consecrated it and all its furniture, and the altar and all its utensils; he also anointed them and consecrated them [for holy use]. ²Then the leaders of Israel, the heads of their fathers’ households, made offerings. (These were the leaders of the tribes; they were the ones who ^[d]were over the men who were numbered.) ³They brought their offering before the Lord, six covered carts and twelve oxen; a cart for each two of the leaders and an ox for each one; and they presented them before the tabernacle. ⁴Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ⁵“Accept these things from them, so that they may be used in the service of the Tent of Meeting (tabernacle), and give them to the Levites, to each man according to his service.” ⁶So Moses took the carts and the oxen and gave them to the Levites. ⁷He gave two carts and four oxen to the sons of Gershon, according to their service [in transporting the tabernacle]; ⁸and he gave four carts and eight oxen to the sons of Merari, according to their service [in transporting the tabernacle], under the supervision of Ithamar the son of Aaron, the [high] priest. ⁹But to the sons of Kohath he gave nothing, because they were assigned the care of the holy things which they carried on their shoulders [when the tabernacle was moved].

¹⁰The leaders offered the dedication sacrifices for the altar on the day that it was anointed; and they offered their sacrifice before the altar. ¹¹Then the Lord said to Moses, “Let them present their offerings, one leader each day, for the dedication of the altar.”

¹²Now the one who presented his offering on the first day was Nahshon the son of Amminadab, of the tribe of Judah; ¹³and his offering was one silver dish, the weight of which was a hundred and thirty shekels, one silver basin of seventy shekels, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, both of them full of fine flour mixed with oil as a grain offering; ¹⁴one golden bowl of ten shekels, full of incense; ¹⁵one young bull, one ram, one male lamb one year old, as a burnt offering; ¹⁶one male goat as a sin offering; ¹⁷and for the sacrifice of peace offerings, two oxen, five rams, five male goats, five male lambs one year old. ¹⁸On the second day Nethanel the son of Zuar, leader [of the tribe] of Issachar, presented [his offering]; ¹⁹he presented as his offering one silver dish, the weight of which was a hundred and thirty shekels, one silver basin of seventy shekels, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, both of them full of fine flour mixed with oil as a grain offering; ²⁰one golden bowl of ten shekels, full of incense; ²¹one young bull, one ram, and one male lamb one year old, as a burnt offering; ²²one male goat as a sin offering; ²³and for the sacrifice of peace offerings, two oxen, five rams, five male goats, five male lambs one year old. ²⁴On the third day [it was] Eliab the son of Helon, leader [of the tribe] of the sons of Zebulun [who presented his offering]; ²⁵his offering was one silver dish, the weight of which was a hundred and thirty shekels, and one silver basin of seventy shekels, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, both of them full of fine flour mixed with oil as a grain offering; ²⁶one golden bowl of ten shekels, full of incense; ²⁷one young bull, one ram, one male lamb one year old, as a burnt offering; ²⁸one male goat as a sin offering; ²⁹and for the sacrifice of peace offerings, two oxen, five rams, five male goats, five male lambs one year old. This was the offering of Eliab the son of Helon [from the tribe of Zebulun].

³⁰On the fourth day [it was] Elizur the son of Shedeur, leader [of the tribe] of the sons of Reuben [who presented his offering]; ³¹his offering was one silver dish, the weight of which was a hundred and thirty shekels, and one silver basin of seventy shekels, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, both of them full of fine flour mixed with oil for a grain offering; ³²one golden bowl of ten shekels, full of incense; ³³one young bull, one ram, one male lamb one year old, as a burnt offering; ³⁴one male goat as a sin offering; ³⁵and for the sacrifice of peace offerings, two oxen, five rams, five male goats, five male lambs one year old. ³⁶On the fifth day [it was] Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai, leader [of the tribe] of the sons of Simeon [who presented his offering]; ³⁷his offering was one silver dish, the weight of which was a hundred and thirty shekels, and one silver basin of seventy shekels, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, both of them full of fine flour mixed with oil as a grain offering; ³⁸one golden bowl of ten shekels, full of incense; ³⁹one young bull, one ram, one male lamb one year old, for a burnt offering; ⁴⁰one male goat as a sin offering; ⁴¹and for the sacrifice of peace offerings, two oxen, five rams, five male goats, five male lambs one year old. ⁴²On the sixth day [it was] Eliasaph the son of Deuel, leader [of the tribe] of the sons of Gad [who presented his offering]; ⁴³his offering was one silver dish the weight of which was a hundred and thirty shekels, and a silver basin of seventy shekels, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, both of them full of fine flour mixed with oil as a grain offering; ⁴⁴one golden bowl of ten shekels, full of incense; ⁴⁵one young bull, one ram, one male lamb one year old, as a burnt offering; ⁴⁶one male goat as a sin offering; ⁴⁷and for the sacrifice of peace offerings, two oxen, five rams, five male goats, five male lambs one year old. ⁴⁸On the seventh day [it was] Elishama the son of Ammihud, leader [of the tribe] of the sons of Ephraim [who presented his offering]; ⁴⁹his offering was one silver dish, the weight of which was a hundred and thirty shekels, and one silver basin of seventy shekels, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, both of them full of fine flour mixed with oil as a grain offering; ⁵⁰one golden bowl of ten shekels, full of incense; ⁵¹one young bull, one ram, one male lamb one year old, as a burnt offering; ⁵²one male goat as a sin offering; ⁵³and for the sacrifice of peace offerings, two oxen, five rams, five male goats, five male lambs one year old. ⁵⁴On the eighth day [it was] Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur, leader [of the tribe] of the sons of Manasseh [who presented his offering]; ⁵⁵his offering was one silver dish the weight of which was a hundred and thirty shekels, and one silver basin of seventy shekels, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, both of them full of fine flour mixed with oil as a grain offering; ⁵⁶one golden bowl of ten shekels, full of incense; ⁵⁷one young bull, one ram, one male lamb one year old, as a burnt offering; ⁵⁸one male goat as a sin offering; ⁵⁹and for the sacrifice of peace offerings, two oxen, five rams, five male goats, five male lambs one year old. ⁶⁰On the ninth day [it was] Abidan the son of Gideoni, leader [of the tribe] of the sons of Benjamin [who presented his offering]; ⁶¹his offering was one silver dish, the weight of which was a hundred and thirty shekels, and one silver basin of seventy shekels, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, both of them full of fine flour mixed with oil as a grain offering; ⁶²one golden bowl of ten shekels, full of incense; ⁶³one young bull, one ram, one male lamb one year old, as a burnt offering; ⁶⁴one male goat as a sin offering; ⁶⁵and as the sacrifice of peace offerings, two oxen, five rams, five male goats, five male lambs one year old. ⁷²On the eleventh day [it was] Pagiel the son of Ochran, leader [of the tribe] of the sons of Asher [who presented his offering]; ⁷³his offering was one silver dish, the weight of which was a hundred and thirty shekels, and one silver basin of seventy shekels, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, both of them full of fine flour mixed with oil as a grain offering; ⁷⁴one golden bowl of ten shekels, full of incense; ⁷⁵one young bull, one ram, and one male lamb one year old, as a burnt offering; ⁷⁶one male goat as a sin offering; ⁷⁷and for the sacrifice of peace offerings, two oxen, five rams, five male goats, five male lambs one year old. This was the offering of Pagiel the son of Ochran [from the tribe of Asher].

⁷⁸On the twelfth day [it was] Ahira the son of Enan, leader [of the tribe] of the sons of Naphtali [who presented his offering]; ⁷⁹his offering was one silver dish, the weight of which was a hundred and thirty shekels, and one silver basin of seventy shekels, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, both of them full of fine flour mixed with oil as a grain offering; ⁸⁰one golden bowl of ten shekels, full of incense; ⁸¹one young bull, one ram, one male lamb one year old, as a burnt offering; ⁸²one male goat as a sin offering; ⁸³and for the sacrifice of peace offerings, two oxen, five rams, five male goats, five male lambs one year old. This was the offering of Ahira the son of Enan [from the tribe of Naphtali].

⁸⁴This was the dedication offering for the altar from the leaders of Israel on the day when it was anointed: twelve dishes of silver, twelve silver basins, twelve golden bowls; ⁸⁵each dish of silver weighing a hundred and thirty shekels, each basin seventy [shekels]; all the silver vessels weighed 2,400 shekels, according to the shekel of the sanctuary; ⁸⁶the twelve golden bowls, full of incense, weighing ten shekels apiece, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, all the gold of the bowls being a hundred and twenty shekels; ⁸⁷all the oxen for the burnt offering were twelve bulls, the rams twelve, the male lambs one year old twelve, together with their grain offering; and the male goats as a sin offering twelve; ⁸⁸and all the oxen for the sacrifice of the peace offerings were twenty-four bulls, the rams sixty, the male goats sixty, the male lambs one year old sixty. This was the dedication for the altar [of burnt offering] after it was anointed.

⁸⁹Now when Moses went into the Tent of Meeting (tabernacle) to speak with the Lord, he heard the voice speaking to him from above the mercy seat (the gold cover) that was on the ark of the Testimony from between the two cherubim; and He spoke [by special revelation] to him.

³⁸In [the course of] His teaching He was saying, “Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes [displaying their prominence], and like to receive respectful greetings in the market places, ³⁹and [they love] the ^[a]chief seats in the synagogues and the places of distinction and honor at banquets, ⁴⁰[these scribes] who devour (confiscate) widows’ houses, and offer long prayers for appearance’s sake [to impress others]. These men will receive greater condemnation.”

The Widow’s Mite

⁴¹And He sat down opposite the [temple] treasury, and began watching how the people were putting money into the ^[b]treasury. And many rich people were putting in ^[c]large sums.^(A) ⁴²A poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which amount to a ^[d]mite. ⁴³Calling His disciples to Him, He said to them, “I assure you and most solemnly say to you, this poor widow put in [proportionally] more than all the contributors to the treasury. ⁴⁴For they all contributed from their surplus, but she, from her poverty, put in all she had, all she had to live on.”

Things to Come

13 As He was coming out of the temple [grounds], one of His disciples said to Him, “Teacher, look what ^[e]wonderful stones and what wonderful buildings!”^(B) ²Jesus replied to him, “You see these great buildings? Not one stone will be left on another which will not be ^[f]torn down!”

³As He was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked Him privately, ⁴“Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign when all these things are about to be fulfilled?” ⁵Jesus began to say to them, “Be careful and see to it that no one misleads you. ⁶Many will come in My name [misusing My name or claiming to be the Messiah], saying, ‘I am He!’ and will deceive and mislead many. ⁷When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed (frightened, troubled); these things must take place, but the end is not yet. ⁸For nation will rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places; there will be famines. These things are the beginning of the ^[g]birth pangs [the intolerable anguish and suffering].

⁹“But be on your guard; they will turn you over to courts, and you will be beaten in synagogues, and you will stand [as accused] before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them. ¹⁰The gospel [that is, the good news regarding the way of salvation] must first be preached to all the [Gentile] nations.^(C) ¹¹When they take you and turn you over [to the court], do not worry beforehand about what to say, but say whatever is given to you [by God] in that hour; for it is not you who speak, but it is the Holy Spirit [who will speak through you]. ¹²Brother will betray brother to [be put to] death, and a father [will hand over] his child; and children will rise up and take a stand against parents and have them put to death. ¹³You will be hated by everyone because of [your association with] My name, but the one who [patiently perseveres empowered by the Holy Spirit and] endures to the end, he will be saved.

Mark 13:2 In a.d. 70, just six years after the temple complex was completed, it was destroyed by the Roman general Titus and his army, who thoroughly devastated Jerusalem.
Mark 13:8 The Jews used this phrase to describe the unprecedented trouble that would occur prior to Messiah’s advent (as recorded in the Talmud).

Today is the fifth day of March, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian. It is a wonderful to be here with you today, as we greet a shiny, sparkly new week. And this week is out in front of us, and we are stepping into the first full week of this, the third month of the year. We kind of transitioned into this new month during the last week and so this is our first full run through a whole week in this month. And I am grateful and thankful to be here around the Global Campfire together with you today, as we take the next step forward together. And that of course, the next step forward begins where the last step ended and that will be the book of Numbers. So, we’ll read from the Christian Standard Bible this week, picking up where he left off yesterday. The book of Numbers, we’ll read chapters four and five.

Prayer:

Father, we love You, we thank You for this brand-new, shiny, sparkly week that we are moving into, and we acknowledge as we so often do, at the beginning of the week is out in front of us, these decisions that we will make, they are out in front of us and we can choose wisely from the beginning, from this point, right now, to walk with You and all of our thoughts, words and deeds. That we might in deed, and in thought, and in word do exactly what we were reading in the Gospel of Mark today, love the Lord your God with all your heart with all your soul, with all your mind with all your strength and love our neighbors as ourselves. There is zero chance of our succeeding at this, without us surrendering completely to You and becoming fully aware that we are utterly dependent upon You, and that all that we have is Yours, and that all that we have we are stewarding and that You have allowed us to do this, so that we might review You to the world. Come, Holy Spirit, and show us how to love You with all that we are. We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Lord, I came to You on behalf of Kathy in Kentucky. And I just thank You for blessing her with 31 years of freedom from alcohol addiction and just ask that You bless her health, Lord. Help her to…to follow the plan. It sounds like she already knows what she needs to follow, as far as diet and exercise and just ask that You give her peace and comfort in her heart, Lord. And I’m not sure why she wasn’t invited to the wedding, I don’t know if that was just uncomfortable because of her brother’s death, or what. But I just ask that You give her peace with that and that You speak to her heart, as she needs to reach out to her, her former sister-in-law and mend that relationship. And Lord, I just ask Your, Your peace and blessing on her and her health. In Jesus name. Amen.

Lord, the father’s heart is completely destroyed by this horrible news of what his daughters going thru. Lord, I ask that You be with him. God, I’m asking that You would give him the strength to keep praying, keep believing, keep trusting in You. Though we ask that You would intervene and get his baby delivered from this. Hey, DAB family, it’s Sadie McFarland. I’m a student at __ University and I just listened to the February 26th readings and God is amazing. I actually had this, the topics of the vision of Elijah and Moses in that reading in Mark in my Bible study today at my church. That was really cool. But I really want to just take time and bless and pray over the gentlemen that called with his daughter being trafficked. That just breaks my heart and shows how much the world needs the Lord. So, please DAB family, let’s join together in prayer for a moment over this family. Please pray with me. Abba Father, we come to You today, humbly, knowing Your power, know Your might. And we pray that You would just pour out Your love and comfort on this family. Bring their precious daughter back. Help the sisters to be there for one another when that happens. And just protect that daughter, protect that family. Bring peace upon that house, upon that family, Lord. And punish those who have trafficked her. Laugh in their faces, because You have prevailed, and You have rescued this poor woman. I pray for her safety and her restoration to the family. In Your almighty, powerful name. Amen. Thank you all. Hello Daily Audio Bible brothers and sisters. My name is Michael, also knowns as Michael Rows the Boat Ashore. I come to you, humbly, asking for your prayers. My wife, of 35 years, 7 years ago was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s dementia. She’s in a nursing home, where she’s falling multiple times. I am estranged from her because of the decisions that I made in my past. I haven’t talked to her or seen her in 3 years. And my kids are currently not talking to me. But my oldest son reached out to me and gave me permission to go visit my wife in the nursing home. Her name is Ingrid, and she took a fall yesterday. And she’s in the hospital. I was supposed to go see her tomorrow, which was Monday the 28th I believe, or the 27th. Anyway, if you could pray for the situation. So, that I can restore the relationship with my children. And get to see my wife again. I’m 100% blind. And that isn’t gonna stop me from seeing her and speaking to her. Please pray for me. Thank you DAB family with all my heart. Hello, my DAB family. This is Mark Street from Sydney, Australia. Today, is Sunday, the 26th of Feb. And I was calling, I was just listening to today’s 25th podcast and just heard Junk to Treasure calling in, asking for prayers for her daughter. And that’s what I wanted. Heavenly Father, we live in such a world that makes us feel unappreciated, unworthy, unloved, by the surroundings around us, Lord. That put pressure on us, Lord, to meet expectations of this world, Lord. And Lord, You don’t want us to have to meet the expectations of this world. We only need to meet your expectations. Lord, open Junk to Treasures daughter’s mind. See that, what the world needs, is not what You need. Lord, open her mind. Fix all the things that she needs, Lord. Lord, and I ask You to put a blessing also onto Junk to Treasure and the rest of her extended family as well, Lord. Lord, You know exactly what they need. And I am coming humbly before You, Lord, asking You to help Junk to Treasures poor family and her daughter, Lord. Lord, in Your name. Amen. Numbers 4-5

Duties of the Kohathites

4 Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, ²“Take a census of the sons of Kohath from among the sons of Levi, by their families (clans), by their fathers’ households, ³from thirty years old and upward, even to fifty years old, all who enter the service to do the work in the Tent of Meeting (tabernacle). ⁴This is the work and responsibility of the sons of Kohath in the Tent of Meeting (tabernacle): the most holy things.

⁵“When the camp prepares to move out, Aaron and his sons shall come into the sanctuary and take down ^[a]the veil (curtain) screening off the Holy of Holies, and cover the ark of the testimony with it; ⁶and they shall put on it a covering of ^[b]porpoise skin (fine leather), and shall spread over that a cloth of pure blue, and shall insert the carrying poles of the ark. ⁷Over the table of the bread of the Presence they shall spread a cloth of blue and put on it the plates, the dishes [for incense], the sacrificial bowls, the jars for the drink offering, and the continual bread [of the Presence] shall be on it. ⁸They shall spread over them a cloth of scarlet, and cover that with a covering of porpoise skin, and they shall insert its carrying poles. ⁹Then they shall take a blue cloth and cover the lampstand for the light, along with its lamps, its wick cutters, its trays, and all the oil vessels, by which it is supplied; ¹⁰and they shall put the lampstand and all its utensils in a covering of porpoise skin, and shall put it on the carrying bars. ¹¹Over the golden [incense] altar they shall spread a blue cloth, and cover it with a covering of porpoise skin, and shall insert its carrying poles; ¹²and they shall take all the utensils of the service with which they minister in the sanctuary, and put them in a blue cloth, and cover them with a covering of porpoise skin, and put them on the carrying bars. ¹³Then they shall clean away the ashes from the altar [of burnt offering], and spread a purple cloth over it. ¹⁴They shall also put on it all its utensils with which they minister in connection with it: the pans, the meat-forks, the shovels, the basins, and all the utensils of the altar; and they shall spread a covering of porpoise skin over it, and insert its carrying poles. ¹⁵When Aaron and his sons have finished covering the sanctuary and all its furniture, as the camp sets out, after all that [is done, but not before], the sons of Kohath shall come to carry them [using the poles], so that they do not touch the holy things, and die. These are the things in the Tent of Meeting (tabernacle) which the sons of Kohath are to carry.

¹⁶“The responsibility of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, is the oil for the light, the ^[c]fragrant incense, the continual grain offering, and the anointing oil—the responsibility of all the tabernacle and everything that is in it, with the sanctuary and its furnishings.”

¹⁷Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, ¹⁸“Do not cut off (eliminate, destroy) the tribe of the families of the Kohathites [who are only Levites and not priests], from among the Levites [by exposing them to the sin of ^[d]touching the most holy things]. ¹⁹But deal with them in this way, so that they may live and not die when they approach the most holy things: Aaron and his sons shall go in and assign each of them to his [specific] work and to his load [to be carried on the march]. ²⁰But the Kohathites shall not go in to see the holy things, even for an instant, or they will die.”

Duties of the Gershonites

²¹Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ²²“Take a census of the sons of Gershon also, by their fathers’ households, by their families. ²³From thirty years and upward to fifty years old, you shall number them; all who enter for service to do the work in the Tent of Meeting. ²⁴This is the service of the families of the Gershonites, in serving and in carrying [when on the march]: ²⁵they shall carry the tent curtains of the tabernacle, and the Tent of Meeting, its covering and the covering of porpoise skin (fine leather) that is on top of it, and the curtain for the doorway of the Tent of Meeting (tabernacle), ²⁶and the hangings of the courtyard, and the curtain for the entrance of the gate of the courtyard which is around the tabernacle and the altar, and their tent ropes, and all the equipment for their service; and all that is to be done, they shall ^[e]perform. ²⁷Aaron and his sons shall direct all the service of the sons of the Gershonites, all they have to carry and all they have to do. You shall assign to them as a duty all that they are to carry [on the march]. ²⁸This is the service of the families of the sons of Gershon in the Tent of Meeting (tabernacle); and their duties shall be ^[f]under the direction of Ithamar the son of Aaron, the [high] priest.

Duties of the Merarites

²⁹“As for the sons of Merari, you shall number them by their families (clans), by their fathers’ households; ³⁰from thirty years and upward to fifty years old, you shall number them, everyone who enters the service to do the work of the Tent of Meeting (tabernacle). ³¹This is what they are assigned to carry [on the march], according to all their service in the Tent of Meeting: the boards [for the framework] of the tabernacle and its bars and its pillars and its sockets or bases, ³²and the pillars around the courtyard with their sockets or bases and their pegs and their cords (tent ropes), with all their equipment and with all their [accessories for] service; and you shall assign each man by name the items ^[g]he is to carry [on the march]. ³³This is the work of the families of the sons of Merari, according to all their tasks in the Tent of Meeting (tabernacle), ^[h]under the direction of Ithamar the son of Aaron, the priest.”

³⁴So Moses and Aaron and the leaders of the congregation numbered the sons of the Kohathites by their families (clans) and by their fathers’ households, ³⁵from thirty years and upward even to fifty years old, everyone who enters the service to do the work in the Tent of Meeting (tabernacle); ³⁶the men who were numbered by their families were 2,750. ³⁷These were numbered of the families of the Kohathites, all who did service in the Tent of Meeting (tabernacle), whom Moses and Aaron numbered according to the commandment of the Lord ^[i]through Moses.

³⁸The men who were numbered of the sons of Gershon, by their families (clans), and by their fathers’ households, ³⁹from thirty years and upward even to fifty years old, everyone who entered the service to do the work in the Tent of Meeting (tabernacle); ⁴⁰the men who were numbered by their families, by their fathers’ households, were 2,630. ⁴¹These were numbered men of the families of the sons of Gershon, everyone who served in the Tent of Meeting (tabernacle), whom Moses and Aaron numbered just as the Lord had commanded.

⁴²The men who were numbered of the sons of Merari, by their families (clans), by their fathers’ households, ⁴³from thirty years and upward even to fifty years old, everyone who entered the service for work in the Tent of Meeting (tabernacle); ⁴⁴the men who were numbered by their families were 3,200. ⁴⁵These are the men who were numbered of the families of the sons of Merari, whom Moses and Aaron numbered in accordance with the commandment of the Lord through Moses.

⁴⁶All the men who were numbered of the Levites, whom Moses and Aaron and the leaders of Israel counted by their families (clans) and by their fathers’ households, ⁴⁷from thirty years and upward even to fifty years old, everyone who could enter to do the work of service and the work of carrying in the Tent of Meeting (tabernacle); ⁴⁸the men that were numbered were 8,580. ⁴⁹According to the commandment of the Lord through Moses, they were numbered, each assigned to his work of serving and carrying. Thus they were numbered by him, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.

On Defilement

5 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ²“Command the Israelites to send away from the camp every leper and everyone who has a discharge, and whoever is defiled [that is, ceremonially unclean] by [coming in contact with] the dead. ³You shall send away both male and female; you shall send them outside the camp so that they will not defile their camp where I dwell in their midst.” ⁴The Israelites did so, and sent them outside the camp; just as the Lord had said to Moses, so the Israelites did.

⁵And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ⁶“Say to the Israelites, ‘When a man or woman commits any of the sins of mankind [against other people], thus breaking faith with the Lord, and that person is guilty, ⁷then he shall confess the sin which he has committed, and he shall make restitution for his wrong in full, and add a fifth to it, and give it to [the person] whom he has wronged. ⁸But if the man [who was wronged] has no redeemer (relative) to whom the restitution may be made, it is to be given to the Lord for the priest, besides the ram of atonement with which atonement is made for the offender. ⁹Also every contribution pertaining to all the holy gifts of the Israelites which they offer to the priest, shall be his. ¹⁰And every man’s holy gifts shall be the priest’s; whatever any man gives the priest, it becomes his.’”

The Adultery Test

¹¹Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ¹²“Speak to the Israelites and say to them, ‘If any man’s wife goes astray (deviates) and is unfaithful to him, ¹³and a man is intimate with her, and it is hidden from the eyes of her husband and it is kept secret, although she has defiled herself, and there is no witness against her and she has not been caught in the act, ¹⁴and if a spirit (sense, attitude) of jealousy comes over him and he is jealous and angry at his wife who has defiled herself—or if a spirit of jealousy comes over him and he is jealous of his wife when she has not defiled herself— ¹⁵then the man shall bring his wife to the priest, and he shall bring as an offering for her, a tenth of an ephah of barley meal; he shall not pour oil on it nor put frankincense on it [the symbols of favor and joy], because it is a grain offering of jealousy, a memorial grain offering, a reminder of [the consequences of] wickedness.

¹⁶‘Then the priest shall have her approach and have her stand before the Lord, ¹⁷and the priest shall take holy water [from the sacred basin] in an earthenware vessel; and he shall take some of the dust that is on the floor of the tabernacle and put it in the water. ¹⁸The priest shall then have the woman stand before the Lord, and let the hair of the woman’s head hang loose, and put the memorial grain offering in her hands, which is the jealousy offering, and in the hand of the priest is to be the water of bitterness that brings a curse. ¹⁹Then the priest shall have her take an oath and say to the woman, “If no man has lain with you and if you have not gone astray into uncleanness [while married], then be immune to this water of bitterness that brings a curse; ²⁰but if you have gone astray [while married] and you have defiled yourself and a man other than your husband has been intimate with you” ²¹(then the priest shall have the woman swear the oath of the curse, and say to the woman), “The Lord make you a curse and an oath among your people when the Lord makes your thigh ^[j]waste away and your abdomen swell; ²²and this water that brings a curse shall go into your stomach, and make your abdomen swell and your thigh waste away.” And the woman shall say, “Amen. Amen (so let it be).”

²³‘The priest shall then write these curses on a scroll and shall wash them off into the water of bitterness; ²⁴and he shall make the woman drink the water of bitterness that brings a curse, and the water that brings the curse will go into her and cause bitterness. ²⁵Then the priest shall take the grain offering of jealousy out of the woman’s hand, and he shall wave the grain offering before the Lord and offer it on the altar. ²⁶Then the priest shall take a handful of the grain offering as the memorial portion of it and offer it up in smoke on the altar, and afterward he shall make the woman drink the water. ²⁷When he has made her drink the water, then it shall come about, that if she has defiled herself and has been unfaithful to her husband, the curse water will go into her and cause bitterness and cause her abdomen to swell and her thigh to waste away, and the woman will become a curse among her people. ²⁸But if the woman has not defiled herself and is clean, then she will be free and conceive children.

²⁹‘This is the law of jealousy: when a wife goes astray [while married] and defiles herself, ³⁰or when a spirit (sense, attitude) of jealousy and suspicion comes on a man and he is jealous of his wife; then he shall have the woman stand before the Lord, and the priest shall apply this law to her. ³¹Further, the husband will be free from guilt, but that woman [if guilty] shall bear her guilt.’”

¹⁸Some Sadducees (who say that there is no resurrection) came to Him, and began questioning Him, saying,^(A) ¹⁹“Teacher, Moses wrote for us [a law] that if a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife but leaves no child, his brother is to ^[a]marry the widow and raise up children for his brother.^(B) ²⁰There were seven brothers; the first [one] took a wife, and died leaving no children. ²¹The second brother married her, and died leaving no children; and the third likewise; ²²and so all seven [married her and died, and] left no children. Last of all the woman died also. ²³In the resurrection, whose wife will she be? For all seven [brothers] were married to her.” ²⁴Jesus said to them, “Is this not why you are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures [that teach the resurrection] nor the power of God [who is able to raise the dead]? ²⁵For when they rise from the dead, they do not marry nor are they given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. ²⁶But concerning the raising of the dead, have you not read in the book of Moses, in the passage about the burning bush, how God spoke to him, saying, ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’?^(C) ²⁷He is not the God of the dead, but of the living; you are greatly mistaken and you are deceiving yourselves!”

²⁸Then one of the scribes [an expert in Mosaic Law] came up and listened to them arguing [with one another], and noticing that Jesus answered them well, asked Him, “Which commandment is first and most important of all?”^(D) ²⁹Jesus answered, “The first and most important one is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord; ³⁰and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul (life), and with all your mind (thought, understanding), and with all your strength.’^(E) ³¹This is the second: ‘You shall [unselfishly] ^[b]love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”^(F) ³²The scribe said to Him, “Admirably answered, Teacher; You truthfully stated that He is One, and there is no other but Him; ³³and to love Him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the strength, and to [unselfishly] love one’s neighbor as oneself, is much more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”^(G) ³⁴When Jesus saw that he answered thoughtfully and intelligently, He said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And after that, no one would dare to ask Him any more questions.

³⁵Jesus began to say, as He taught in [a portico or court of] the temple, “^[c]How can the scribes say that the Christ is the son of David?^(H) ³⁶David himself said [when inspired] by the Holy Spirit,

‘The Lord (the Father) said to my Lord (the Son, the Messiah),
“Sit at My right hand,
Until I put Your enemies under Your feet.”’^(I)

³⁷David himself calls Him (the Son, the Messiah) ‘Lord’; so how can it be that He is ^[d]David’s Son?” The large crowd enjoyed hearing Jesus and listened to Him with delight.

Today is the 4^th day of March welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian and it is great to be here with you today. Kind of a special day in my life. It’s my birthday and as I go through these years, I have determined that the best thing for me to do is to count my birthdays in Daily Audio Bible years, which means that this is the 18^th birthday that I have experienced since the Daily Audio Bible began. I can’t believe I am finally an adult, at least in Daily Audio Bible and. And the Daily Audio Bible…wow…18 birthdays…and every day in between all of them has been spent here around the Global Campfire. And I don’t…it’s kind of hitting me hard this year, not in a bad way…just in this awareness, like…wow we’ve really…really dedicated our lives to this for a very long time and it’s changed life irreversibly to be in the Scriptures every single day for all of these years. And I look forward to as many years…to the next 18. And, so, let's…let’s dive in and enjoy our adulthood together as we take the next step forward together in the Scriptures. And we just are getting moved in…just starting the book of Numbers. We began it yesterday, which is where we will pick up the story today. We’re reading from the New International Version this week, which is today. Numbers chapters 2 and 3.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for that assurance in proverbs, when the storm has swept by the wicked are gone but the righteous stand firm forever. So often we think when the storm comes, we’re trying not to be the ones that get swept away, but You are saying the righteous stand firm forever. We aren’t righteous. We can’t stand firm forever, but You are righteous and in You and through You we are made righteous. And, so, we thank You that when the storms blow through, we remain. And I personally thank You for that Lord. I publicly thank You for that truth. Over the course of…well now moving into this through this 18^th year there have been plenty of storms as all of us have experienced over the course of the last 18 years. We’ve faced things that we didn’t know were coming. We’ve faced things that we knew were coming. We’ve faced things from all directions and some of those things felt like they blew us away but we’re still here. We’re still here. We’re still standing. Day by day step-by-step we continue moving forward and we thank You for Your faithfulness and Your patience with us because were it not for these we would not be standing here, none of us. Without an anchor in You and without an anchor in the Scriptures we would be blowing in the storm. And, so, thank You Father for Your faithfulness to us even when we were not faithful to You. But day by day step-by-step You are transforming us, and we are being transformed. We are being put back together again. And You are inviting us into Your work of putting all things back together again so that all things are made new. Come Holy Spirit and help us to remember what we’re doing here. We pray this in the mighty name of Jesus and by His authority. Amen.

Last week our faithful prayer warrior Treasure to Treasurer call in and she seldom calls into ask to prayers for herself, but she said she felt like she was in an arena with lions and with Satan and his pitchfork. And all week I’ve been praying that, like Daniel God would close the mouth of the lions and would turn Satan’s pitchfork to rubber. But she’s called in her prayer request of today February 25^th. She’s asking for prayer specifically for her daughter Trisha who for whatever reason does…no longer wants to live. And oh, Father I know the…the bond between a mother and daughter is so strong. If my daughter were hurting like that I would…I would rattle the gates of heaven to get answers and help for her. Please join me in prayer. Heavenly Father please be with Trisha. You know what’s going on with her. Please give her the will to live. Let her know how much her mother adores her and loves her. Good morning Daily Audio Bible, wonderful friends and family this is the Woman at the Well formerly known as One Penny Saved from southwest Missouri and I just felt compelled to call in. I had promised that I would call in with more encouraging words for those who are going through coming out of addiction. And I have been fully delivered and I’ve told my story, that my one consistent in my life for 17 years or 16 years was listening to Daily Audio Bible. And yes, the word did heal me. And, so, my encouragement is to those who are in the grips of torment and agony and self-hatred, self-loathing, fear, all of those things, self-condemnation. My word to you today is as you are being delivered. You will find freedom. It sneaks up on you. Isn’t that crazy. It really does. And, so, I’m just giving you encouragement to hang in there. And then when you do begin to find healing you will still have the law of you reap what you sow. So, do not be discouraged that bad seed will still be harvested but good seed is being planted. So, I’m just giving you love and encouragement and prayers. All of you who are trying to find freedom don’t give up. Love you.

Hi, it’s Donna from California let’s lift up Trisha the daughter of…I’m not sure if you’re recalling yourself from Junk to Treasure again or from Treasure to Treasure but our treasured sister her daughter Tricia who does…who has revealed to her mother that she doesn’t want to live anymore. Lord Jesus please, please just invade this this young woman’s heart. Invade her with Your truth and with Your love. Let her know how precious she is, that You are…You are her God and that she is Your daughter and that she is precious in Your sight and that her life is important, and more than that it has purpose. Her life has purpose. There is so much that You have for her that You want to bless her abundantly and that You want to bless others through her. May whatever it is, and You know what this is Lord, You know what it is, may whatever she is going through be turned to be a mighty, mighty testimony. May You use whatever hurt or pain or trials, whatever it is, we know that You can use it all when a person turns to You. So, let’s pray. We pray that Trisha turns to You and embraces Your truth, that she seeks her identity in You, that she seeks her everything in You and may her mom be comforted with the peace that passes all understanding. We love You.

²⁵“On the north side shall be the ^[e]standard of the camp of Dan, by their armies; and Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai shall lead the sons of Dan, ²⁶and his army as numbered totaled 62,700. ²⁷Encamped next to Dan [on the north side] shall be the tribe of Asher; and Pagiel the son of Ochran shall lead the sons of Asher, ²⁸and his army as numbered totaled 41,500. ²⁹Then [completing the north side] comes the tribe of Naphtali; and Ahira the son of Enan shall lead the sons of Naphtali, ³⁰and his army as numbered totaled 53,400. ³¹The total of the numbered men [of the three tribes on the north side] in the camp of Dan was 157,600. They shall move out last, ^[f]standard after standard.”

³²These are the men of the Israelites [twenty years old and upward] as numbered by their fathers’ households. The total of the numbered men of the camps by their armies, 603,550. ³³But the Levites were not numbered with the [other] Israelites, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. ³⁴Thus the Israelites did [as ordered]; according to everything the Lord had commanded Moses, so they camped by their standards, and so they moved out, everyone with his family (clan), according to his fathers’ household.

Levites to Be Priesthood

3 Now these are the records of the generations of Aaron and Moses in the day when the Lord spoke [by special revelation] with Moses on Mount Sinai. ²These are the names of the sons of Aaron: Nadab the firstborn, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. ³These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the priests who were anointed, whom Aaron ^[g]consecrated and ordained to minister in the priest’s office. ⁴But Nadab and Abihu died in the presence of the Lord when they offered strange (unholy, unacceptable, inappropriate) fire before the Lord in the Wilderness of Sinai; and they had no sons. So Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests ^[h]in the presence and under the supervision of Aaron their father.^(A)

⁵Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ⁶“Bring the tribe of Levi near and present them before Aaron the priest, so that they may serve him. ⁷They shall carry out the duties for him and for the whole congregation before the Tent of Meeting, doing the service of the tabernacle. ⁸They shall also take care of all the furnishings and utensils of the Tent of Meeting, and [attend to] the duties of the Israelites, doing the service of the tabernacle. ⁹You shall give the Levites to Aaron and to his sons [as servants and helpers]; they are to be given wholly to him from among the Israelites. ¹⁰So you shall appoint Aaron and his sons, and they shall observe and attend to their priesthood; but the layman (non-Levite) who approaches [the holy things] shall be put to death.”

¹¹Again the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ¹²“Behold, I have taken the Levites from among the sons of Israel instead of and as a substitute for every firstborn, that is, the first that opens the womb among the Israelites. So the Levites shall be Mine, ¹³for all the firstborn are Mine. On the day that I killed all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, I consecrated for Myself all the firstborn in Israel, both man and animal. They shall be mine; I am the Lord.”

¹⁴Then the Lord spoke to Moses in the Wilderness of Sinai, saying, ¹⁵“Number the sons of Levi by their fathers’ households, by their families (clans). You shall number every male from a month old and upward.” ¹⁶So Moses numbered them just as he was commanded by the word (mouth) of the Lord. ¹⁷These are the [three] sons of Levi by their names: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. ¹⁸These are the names of the [two] sons of Gershon by their families: Libni and Shimei; ¹⁹and the [four] sons of Kohath by their families: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel; ²⁰and the [two] sons of Merari by their families: Mahli and Mushi. These are the families of the Levites by their fathers’ households.

²¹Of Gershon were the families of the Libnites and of the Shimeites. These are the families of the Gershonites. ²²The males who were numbered, every male from a month old and upward totaled 7,500. ²³The families of the Gershonites were to camp behind the tabernacle on the west, ²⁴and the leader of the fathers’ households of the Gershonites was Eliasaph the son of Lael.

Duties of the Levites

²⁵Now the responsibilities of the sons of Gershon in the Tent of Meeting involved the tabernacle and the tent, its covering, and the curtain for the doorway of the Tent of Meeting, ²⁶and the hangings of the courtyard, the curtain for the doorway of the courtyard which is around the tabernacle and the altar, its tent ropes, and all the service ^[i]concerning them.

²⁷Of Kohath were the families of the Amramites, the Izharites, the Hebronites, and the Uzzielites; these are the families of the Kohathites. ²⁸The males who were numbered, every male from a month old and upward totaled ^[j]8,600, attending to the duties of the sanctuary. ²⁹The families of the sons of Kohath were to camp on the south side of the tabernacle, ³⁰and the leader of the fathers’ households of the families of the Kohathites was Elizaphan the son of Uzziel. ³¹Now their responsibilities involved the ark, the table [on which the bread of the Presence was placed], the lampstand, the altars, the utensils of the sanctuary with which the priests minister, and the curtain, and all the service concerning them. ³²Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, was chief of the leaders of the Levites; he supervised those who performed the duties of the sanctuary.

³³Of Merari were the families of the Mahlites and the Mushites; these are the families of Merari. ³⁴The males who were numbered, every male from a month old and upward totaled 6,200. ³⁵The leader of the fathers’ households of the families of Merari was Zuriel the son of Abihail. The Merarites were to camp on the north side of the tabernacle. ³⁶Now the appointed responsibilities of the sons of Merari involved the frames of the tabernacle, its bars, its pillars, its sockets or bases, and all the equipment, and all the service concerning them, ³⁷and the pillars around the courtyard with their bases and their pegs and their cords (tent ropes).

³⁸Now those to camp before the tabernacle toward the east, before the Tent of Meeting, toward the sunrise, were to be Moses, and Aaron and his sons, performing the duties of the sanctuary for whatever was required of the Israelites; and the ^[k]layman (non-Levite) who approached [the sanctuary] was to be put to death. ³⁹All the men of the Levites whom Moses and Aaron numbered at the ^[l]command of the Lord, by their families, every male from a month old and upward, were 22,000.

Firstborn Redeemed

⁴⁰Then the Lord said to Moses, “Number every firstborn male of the Israelites from a month old and upward, and ^[m]make a list of their names. ⁴¹You shall take the Levites for Me instead of and as a substitute for all the firstborn among the Israelites. I am the Lord; and you shall take the cattle of the Levites instead of and as a substitute for all the firstborn among the cattle of the Israelites.” ⁴²So Moses numbered all the firstborn among the Israelites, just as the Lord had commanded him; ⁴³and all the firstborn males from a month old and upward as numbered were 22,273 [273 more than the Levites].

⁴⁴Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ⁴⁵“Take the Levites [for Me] instead of all the firstborn among the sons of Israel, and the cattle of the Levites instead of their cattle. And the Levites shall be Mine. I am the Lord. ⁴⁶For the ransom (redemption price) of the 273 of the firstborn of the Israelites who outnumber the Levites, ⁴⁷you shall take five shekels apiece, per head, you shall take them in terms of the sanctuary shekel (the shekel is twenty gerahs), ⁴⁸and give the money, the ransom (redemption price) of those who outnumber the Levites to Aaron and to his sons.” ⁴⁹So Moses took the ransom (redemption) money from those who were in excess, beyond those ransomed by the Levites; ⁵⁰from the firstborn of the Israelites he took the money in terms of the sanctuary shekel, 1,365 shekels. ⁵¹Then Moses gave the ransom money to Aaron and to his sons at the command of the Lord, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.

Numbers 3:38 This ban against “the layman” or “the unauthorized” from coming near the sanctuary (the sacred tent, the tabernacle proper) should not be construed as discrimination against people who were not Israelites. It included everyone except the ordained descendants of Levi of the house of Aaron. The tabernacle proper was made up of two small rooms which no one except the priest or priests who had the assignment was ever to enter. The congregation entered the outside enclosure (the courtyard) only. This was true also of the later temples. Neither Jesus nor any of his disciples or Paul ever entered the sanctuary. When Jesus “taught in the temple” or “entered into the temple,” the Greek word invariably indicates that He was in the temple enclosure (hieron) and not in the sanctuary (naos). A violation of this ban is recorded in 2 Chr 26:16-21. King Uzziah attempted to enter the sanctuary to burn incense. While he was being confronted and restrained by Azariah the priest and eighty others he broke out in leprosy. He remained a leper for the rest of his life.

Jesus’ Authority Questioned

And as Jesus was walking in the [courts and porches of the] temple, the ^[a]chief priests, the scribes, and the elders came to Him,^(A) ²⁸and began saying to Him, “By what authority are You doing these things, or who gave You this authority to do these things?” ²⁹Jesus said to them, “I will ask you one question, and you answer Me, and then I will tell you by what authority I do these things. ³⁰Was the baptism of John [the Baptist] from heaven [that is, ordained by God] or from men? Parable of the Vineyard Owner

12 Jesus began to speak to them [the chief priests, scribes and elders who were questioning Him] in parables: “A man planted a vineyard and put a ^[c]wall around it, and dug a pit for the wine press and built a tower; and he rented it out to tenant farmers and left the country.^(B) ²When the harvest season came he sent a ^[d]servant to the tenants, in order to collect from them some of the fruit of the vineyard. ³They took him and beat him and sent him away empty-handed. ⁴Again he sent them another servant, and they [threw stones and] wounded him in the head, and treated him disgracefully. ⁵And he sent another, and that one they killed; then many others—some they beat and some they killed. ⁶He still had one man left to send, a beloved son; he sent him last of all to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ ⁷But those tenants said to each other, ‘This man is the heir! Jesus Answers the Pharisees, Sadducees and Scribes

¹³Then they sent some of the ^[e]Pharisees and Herodians to Jesus in order to trap Him into making a statement [that they could use against Him].^(D) ¹⁴They came and said to Him, “Teacher, we know that You are truthful and have no personal bias toward anyone; for You are not influenced by outward appearances or social status, but in truth You teach the way of God. Is it lawful [according to Jewish law and tradition] to pay the ^[f]poll-tax to [^[g]Tiberius] Caesar, or not? ¹⁵Should we pay [the tax] or should we not pay?” But knowing their hypocrisy, He asked them, “Why are you testing Me? Today is the third day of March, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian, it is fantastic to be here with you today, around the Global Campfire, as we gather together all over the world to take the next step forward in the Scriptures. We have a bit of a transition today. We will conclude the book of Leviticus and begin what comes next, which happens to be the book of Numbers. And we’ll do all that before we get back in the gospel of Mark in the New Testament. So, I let’s dive in and finish Leviticus and then will…will talk a little bit about the book of Numbers and then we will, we will walk through the threshold into a brand-new book into new territory. First, Leviticus chapter 27 verse 14 through the end of the book which is verse 34.

Introduction to the Book of Numbers:

Okay, so that is the end of the book of Leviticus, which now brings us to the opening of the book of Numbers. And as we move into the book of Numbers, we might start feeling like, didn’t we read this already like, haven’t we heard some of this before. And some of that can feel tedious, but it’s really important because we’re moving now, we’re like transitioning between the first generation of former Egyptian slaves, who are out in the wilderness, we’re now moving toward and into the next generation, and a lot has happened. We’ve read every verse, like we have gone through a lot of things and a lot has happened and God has shown up in the midst of the people with His mighty power and has revealed to them what is now known as the Mosaic law, but now they have the law and have to learn to live it because, because God is moving the people out and moving them toward the Land of Promise. And before the book of Numbers is over, we will see spies, very famous story, spies, sent to spy out the land of promise and come back with a report and we’ll find that there are remarkable parallels in…in this story that relate to our lives really closely. We’ll also know that this theme of…of a holy people, God is holy, therefore His people will be holy, continues to be a theme throughout Numbers and it’s throughout the entire Torah or Pentateuch. We’ll also be able to see what the opposite does: rebellion reaps judgments. So, we’re about to dive in and you know, begin reading the first chapter. The first nine chapters provide review and…and bring structure, because God is moving His people out and toward the Promised Land. So, we’ll see census is being taken. We’ll see additional laws being given, we’ll review the laws, we’ll see purification and celebrations happening, and then we will move toward the spies being sent across the Jordan into the Promised Land and an entire generation being destined to the wilderness and the chaos that that brings about. And then once the old generation has completely passed away, we’ll watch new leadership rising up, we’ll see some skirmishes and warfare are starting. These people out in the wilderness are a mass of people and they are freaking everyone out around them. We’ll see new laws get established and of course with the censuses, come a lot of counting and we’ll be able to participate in some of that, a good generous portion of that as well, in the book of Numbers. And so, we begin, Numbers chapter 1.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word, and we thank You for this new territory that we are moving into, in the book of Numbers. We ask, Holy Spirit, that You would lead us through it and that we would see what we need to see and hear what we need to hear, as we learn more and more of this story of the formation of people that You brought out of slavery and into a land of promise and all of the drama that it took to get them there. And we see from a, from a wide perspective that this is our story. You have brought us out of slavery, You have invited us into a land of wholeness and promise and all of the drama that it takes for us to trust You, to get us there. And we’re sorry for that. We humble ourselves before You in this, recognizing that Scriptures become a mirror into our own lives and souls, we ask that You would lead us into all truth, and that we might be awake, alert and aware, that we are utterly dependent upon You, and we can trust You. There is no other. We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Good day DABers, this is Possum calling from the UK. I’ve been listening to you, Brian and Jill and Ezekiel and China for about nine years now. So, I thank you for all you do. I’m ringing for a very good friend of mine called Angela. And she’s a dear sister in Christ, her husband Alan is fighting for his life on a life-support machine at present. They want to try and bring him around but each time they do, he gets destressed. So, I just want us to pray with that faith that Brian talked about, that if we can just touch the hem of Jesus, that lady had that faith, that she knew she’d be healed. So, I just now reaching out and touching Alan and just asking for that healing, that miracle in Jesus name. That he’d be well, and we can shout, thank You Lord. You healed him. I pray for this in Jesus name. I also pray for Angela and the family for their wisdom and strength in making decisions. And I pray that they make the right decisions. And I pray for the peace that will surpass all understanding be unto them, as they sit there and wait. Father God, You are a good God. I love you; I adore You, I worship You. You are everything to me. And I know that You’re everything to Angela and Alan. So, please Lord, I’m begging at the hem, heal in Jesus name.

Hi, it’s Shannon from Texas. And this is a very hard call for me to make. But I’m just going to do it anyway. I need some prayers, all the prayers I can get for my son Jay-drean. Who, you guys have been helping me pray for since, I think it was like 2014, when I first started calling in. And really rough, you know, up until he went, I just moved from __parting the gates of heaven with prayer for him for deliverance. 2020, or 2021 he went into a jail rehab, and he had ___ and then he came out and it made a difference, it was a like a miracle. And it appears that now, he’s back using again. And it’s like I fought so hard, I know it’s not my battle to fight but I’m his parent so it’s like, I don’t know how to take that on. I just believe in warfare, and I pray so hard and it’s like okay, and then it’s like but now it’s not. So, it’s just, it’s a lot emotionally, it’s a lot, it’s just a lot. And but the good thing is with my grandson, Stacy, and that’s just my number one priority at this time. And you know, drugs are just you know, that demon it has to go back to hell well it came from. And that’s what I’m believing. I’m believing that this will not due to the fullness. I think it’s something that just started with a new job. And I just wish it …

Good morning, I just heard Brian’s commentary from February 24th about what Jesus said that what makes a person unclean come from within the heart. Brian went on to say that we worry about our outward appearance rather than what’s going on from within. As of the 1st of January, I felt the Lord impressing upon me to start drinking alcohol. I never thought I was overdoing it but it wasn’t until Brian mentioned that it’s from within, what’s going on inside our heart is what really matters. The Holy Spirit helped me put two and two together. I have been masking so many sad areas of my past, both distantly and recently. This past year has just been horrendous. I guess I might have been trying to cover up that sadness by medicating myself with the alcohol. And trying to be someone who I’m not. I was covering up that hurt. My prayers not only for myself but anyone out there who is hurting and maybe doesn’t even know that it, it’s from a deeply seeded hurt in your heart. Maybe you’ve been trying the new diet, the new work out, the new makeup, drug or drink of choice. I’m finding out that this is not a fix up. It’s not out there but it’s in there. It’s in the heart. The heart needs to be changed. God, please help me and anyone else who finds themselves in a time of confusion of why we have so much anger, rage, sexual sin or any of those sins that Jesus was talking about. I pray that His light will flood us with His peace, His clarity, His restoration and forgiveness. Give rid of the fake Lord and bring back the real, joy of our salvation.

Hello, I’m having one of those days. This is Minita from Lombard. Once in a great while, I get sad and I know the Lord is with me, I just need His strength. But Tracy, I know it’s hard. But you are in my prayers. May the Lord restore your marriage. You have a lot of people praying for you. But today, I’m really sad you know. Sometimes, sadness comes upon me, I have to call out to the Lord. I was married for 35 years, 37 in total with one man faithfully to him. And my case is different. We were pastors and while I was taking care of his parents at home, because I couldn’t take them to church. He got close to the church secretary and he’s still with her. It’s been almost four years that we’ve been divorced. And today, I see pictures once in a while, it’s the devil, cause I don’t look for it, it just happens, and I see them together. I assume they’re married; you know. There’s no hope for me to be with him. There’s no way that I will accept him in my life ever. Well, they’re together, they’re married so that’s okay. You know, Lord help them. But yeah, say a prayer for me because it do saddens me. You know, I’ve been single. I’m not remarried yet. God bless you and thanks for praying.

Hello Daily Audio Bible. This is Sinner and Saint calling in from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I heard a young woman call in who is pregnant and has gestational diabetes and now her blood pressure is going up. And I wanted to pray for you, my young sister, as well, as tell you that I had increased blood pressure towards the end of my pregnancy, and I got hospitalized so that I could lay low and not even sit up because the doctor just wanted me to be able to wait out some time for the baby to further develop his lungs. Anyhow, I want you to not be afraid and so, I’ll say a prayer. Dear Father, please be with this young woman in her pregnancy and please help her to have a safe and wonderful delivery and a wonderful life with the new baby. Please help her to not be overwhelmed about what needs to be done because babies just need hugs and love and somewhere to sleep. Lord, we ask You for Your blessing and Your peace and Your calm and Your joy for this, for this young woman. We love you Jesus and in Jesus name we pray. Amen.
