Deuteronomy 28:1-68, Luke 11:14-36, Psalms 77:1-20, Proverbs 12:18

Today is the 5th day of April. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian and it is a pleasure and an honor and a joy to be with you here today. No matter where you are and no matter what time it is we are in this together and we are not alone. Someone else is listening too. So, it is a joy to be here with you as we take the next step forward in the Scriptures, which leads us back into the book of Deuteronomy as we listen to what Moses has to say as his final will and testament, as it were, the final things that he has to say to the children of Israel before he leaves them, before he will leave the story and they will go across the Jordan River, led by another. Deuteronomy chapter 28. And we’re reading from the English Standard Version this week.

Commentary:

Alright. So, let’s go back to the book of Luke. Jesus is obviously ministering, and in his ministry miraculous things are happening. People are being set free and healed and delivered. And even as they’re seeing this their asking for a sign from heaven because it’s all confusing. Some of them are saying He’s got the devil within him and that’s why contest of the devil. And, of course, Jesus says, that’s doesn’t make any sense. And, so, even though people are seeing the signs, they’re asking for a sign from heaven to confirm that Jesus is something special, right? So, they want something beyond just the miraculous things that are happening around Jesus. They want some kind of sign from heaven to confirm Jesus. And it’s here that Jesus says, this generation is an evil generation, it seeks for a sign. And then Jesus talks about a sign of Jonah. And then immediately after that, like, next paragraph, Jesus starts talking about lighting a lamp, putting it under a basket or is that what you do or you put it up on a lampstand so that everyone can see the light? And He says, the eye is the lamp of your body. When your eye is healthy your whole body is full of light but when it is bad your whole body is full of darkness. Therefore, be careful lest the light in you be darkness. So, it seems like He’s switching gears, like, all of a sudden we’re talking about something totally different, but we’re not. He’s talking about this generation who wants to see a sign. And we find ourselves kind of in the same camp. We want to see God do something for us. Okay, so what do you see a sign with if you’re going to see it? You’re going to see it with your eye. Okay. So, when you look around every day and you see, what do you see? Do you see darkness in the world? Is what you mostly see in the world? Because if you’re looking around and what you see is mostly grim than what you are seeing is darkness. And if all you are seeing is darkness, then you will be full of darkness according to Jesus. But what if you were to look around and all you could see was the glory of the Lord and His beautiful continual patient, loving, kind, graceful work in the world? What if everyone you looked at, you didn’t see the darkness in them, you saw what they could to be, you saw the light in them? Well then you would be full of light because you would be seeing the light. And doesn’t Jesus continually tell stories and then say for anyone with eyes to see. So, what we have here is an invitation to consider how it is we’re seeing the world we live in, how it is worth seeing our own existence, how it is worth seeing ourselves. Is what we’re seeing darkness? Well then, is it any wonder that we’re seeing darkness. But Jesus is inviting us to open our eyes and see the light. It’s everywhere. It’s all around us. It is sustained by our Father. This lavish, exquisite gift of the planet is ours to steward and see the light, the glory of the Lord all around us. His presence is everywhere all at once, always available. Are we seeing it? It’s here, it’s happening, it’s right now. It’s exactly what Jesus was saying. If it’s by the finger of God that I cast out demons then the kingdom of God has come upon you, right? Open your eyes and see. It’s everywhere. It’s right now. It’s happening. Open your eyes. See the light. Be filled with light. See the light and not the darkness and you will be filled with light. We’re invited to see things differently. We’re invited to see what’s really going on here. The light is everywhere. And Jesus says, if then your whole body is full of light having no part dark it will be wholly bright, right? Completely of the light, completely bright. And in the final analysis, isn’t that what were after? Wholeness, bright wholeness. That’s what we see in Jesus. And if we’re supposed to be Christ like then that’s what we’re going for - wholeness, light, life, good news, resurrection, restoration, completeness, fullness, things as they were intended to be from the start, shalom. And Jesus is inviting us to see that it’s all around us. It’s all present. It’s all here and He came to bring it to us. He said, I have come that you might have life. And we usually attach that to the cross. And yes, the cross is a part of that but Jesus has also come that we might have life by showing us how to see it because if we can’t see it then we’re blind to it, we’re in the dark to it. So, how do you see things? Because Jesus is suggesting that we can see anything through a lens of darkness through a lens of light. How do you see things? This is powerful enough as all of Jesus words are, to change the way we live going forward starting right now. And if we will begin to see the light and, as yesterday, if we will keep seeking and asking and knocking in pursuit of the light, then we will eventually be filled with light, wholly light, as when a lamp with its rays gives light.

Prayer:

Holy Spirit, come. We recognize that when we look around we see a lot of darkness and we continually ask You to come and take the darkness away when you are saying, look at this a little differently. It’s all around you. Light is everywhere. See it. Walk into it. Become complete and whole in it and show others how to do the same. Bring the good news of the gospel. Replace the darkness with light. And that begins with us. That begins with us seeing the light. So come, Holy Spirit, we change the way that we look at the world today. We’re going to go through our day to day seeing the light everywhere. And we’re asking you to teach us to live in the light. Come, Holy Spirit. We pray in Jesus’ name we ask. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hello from beautiful Cincinnati Ohio. This is Daniel J. Junior. I’m actually standing in downtown Cincinnati waiting for my connecting bus into northern Kentucky. It is Monday, April the 2nd, 2018. Let’s pray. Dear heavenly Father, Lord of all, I just want to praise You for all of the prayer warriors that exist in the Daily Audio Bible community and those that call in, those that don’t call in, but those that hear and then pray for all of the other DABbers. I praise You for all of those that are ahead of us in age, in the generation that’s ahead of us, our parents, who are facing challenges as they get older. I pray that You would extend their lives, give them health Lord Jesus through the power of Your mighty name. I pray also for the generation that’s coming up behind us, our children and grandchildren, those generations Lord, please continue to guide us and lead us and give us wisdom in how to shepherd them, continue to draw them closer to You for You’re ever, ever, redemptive, always looking to redeem. And I pray for our generation Lord. I just pray that You would just continue to fill us up with Your knowledge and wisdom and Your Holy Spirit. Continue to guide us as we do, as we go about all of our days. We are so grateful to You God for Your love and Your kindness for Your mercy and Your grace. I pray all of this in Jesus’ name. Amen. From beautiful Cincinnati Ohio, this is Daniel J. Junior saying God bless You. Make it a great day.

Hello everybody. My name is Trilana and I am in South Florida. This is my first time calling and I have been listening to the Daily Audio Bible for the past couple years. I’m calling today because my dad had a fall yesterday. Yesterday was Easter and it’s the 1st of April and he’s actually turning 70. We were celebrating his birthday and after he left my house he had a fall. This isn’t the first time he fell. He’s okay. He’s a little banged up. But he’s fallen before, several times actually. And last year when he fell he actually had to go to the hospital and had to get some things done. So, anyway, I wanted to pray or ask for prayer for my dad and my stepmom, just for the health and strength and wisdom and taking care of themselves as we also are praying and supporting them and trying to do our best as well. But, yeah, I just wanted to ask the community for that and I do pray for you guys and I just thought that this would be a…I wanted to call before but I never did so now I’m calling and I hope to call more in the future. So, anyway, I thank you so much for your prayers.

This call is for Lisa from Kansas and Sharon the Victorious. This is Candace from Oregon lifting you in prayer along with others who are in desperate circumstances. Lord we lift to you these women who have cried out for help and we know that you alone, you alone can address the aching abyss of our hearts Lord. Thank you that you have suffered everything that we have and your love for us is enough. It’s even more than enough. And, so, help us now Lord. Help Lisa and Sharon now too and others who are in desperate circumstances, to stop looking at those circumstances and look into Your eyes Lord and know that when they keep their eyes on You they can walk on water. And You require nothing of them except to obey You. Help them to let go and trust You fully and completely and let it be as simple as it is, to just do the next right thing. We have no more power than that. You’re the one with all the power and Your love for us is beyond anything we could even have imagined. And, so, Lord hold these dear ones and help them to keep their eyes on you and receive all that You have for them in this very moment. In Jesus’ name we pray.

Hi this is Stephanie from Arizona. And Victoria in Northern California, I just heard your prayer request. Today is April 2nd and I just wanted to call in and tell you I am praying for you. I’m praying for your daughter and am praying for your husband. I’m just praying for God’s healing touch on all of you, for peace for all of you. And just know that we’re out here praying for you. So, I just wanted to call in. And for everybody else, I hear your prayers and I’m praying for you as well. So, have a good week and year. I love you Daily Audio Bible family. And Brian, thank you for doing this. Bye.

Hello Daily Audio Bible. This is Nicole from Maryland. I am calling because I heard some prayer requests from Lisa from Kansas and Sharon the Victorious. And Lisa from Kansas, you said that you were dealing with depression. And I struggled with depression for many years and I was seeing a psychiatrist. I was on heavy medication. I saw a psychologist. You know, I never had to see a psychologist on a consistent basis. Thank God, they were Christian. They told me I would never be off of medication but one of the things that was successful for me was the power of our words. As you know, the Bible talks about…there’s power in the spoken word. And, so, be mindful of what you think. Find some promises that are true about you, that the word says regardless of how you feel, you say it out loud. If you have to do it every day, I am healed, I am delivered, I am free from depression, if you have to say it every day. Also, getting involved in a community of believers. I want you to know that through my declaration and through my prayer and through, you know, just finding a community of believers, I am no longer struggling with that. I’m no longer on medication. By the grace of God, I am no longer needing to see a psychiatrist or psychologist but I will if I need to. Okay. So, I want to encourage you there. Also, Sharon the victorious, I am praying for your husband, your husband’s back and your daughter, who is overdosing and violent. And I’m praying for you and I just declare and believe for your healing in the name of Jesus. I believe for your husband’s healing. And I believe God for your daughter’s freedom and deliverance. And please, watch your mouth, watch what you say. You are victorious. Your family is victorious because Jesus already won the victory. Regardless of what we see, you have the victory in Jesus’ name.

Deuteronomy 26:1-27:26, Luke 10:38-11:13, Psalms 76:1-12, Proverbs 12:15-17

Today is the 4th day of April. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian. It’s great to be here with you from the rolling hills of Tennessee where spring is springing. And it’s lovely if wet time of year. And we have had a wet winter here in the south. And if you’re in (the) north, Spring is coming. I promise it’s coming. I’m seeing it. And I realize those of you down under are moving into autumn. So being a global community that we are, we’re just kind of all over the map literally and figuratively. But it’s great to be here with you today and I digress on the weather. So, we’re going to take the next steps forward, which means we’ll be taking the next steps forward in the book of Deuteronomy. And we have less than a week before we’ll finish the Torah, which is the first five books of the Bible. And as we’ve been saying as we move through Deuteronomy, these are the last things Moses has to say. Today Deuteronomy chapter 26 and 27. We’re reading from the English Standard Version this week.

Commentary:

A couple of things that we should look at from the book of Luke. Because they’re pretty big and they apply directly to our lives. Like they actually could affect our lives today right now. The first is this story that we encountered of Martha and Mary. And these are a couple of sisters and it’s a short story but a pretty famous one. Martha welcomed Jesus into her house and her sister Mary sat at Jesus feet listening to his teaching. Martha was not able to do that. She was really busy serving everybody, right? Making the food, sweeping the floor taking care of the needs of everyone who’s in the house. And the fact that Mary was sitting at Jesus feet and listening to his teaching kind of aggravated Martha because here she is doing all of the work and Mary’s just sitting there listening to Jesus and so she gets exasperated. Exasperated enough to go to the rabbi, to go to Jesus and tell Mary to get up off her butt and start helping. I mean, that alone is kind of funny because you don’t normally do that with your house guest, right? So, these are two sisters and so it’s like Martha’s coming to Jesus and asking him to be the dad in the situation and telling Mary to get up and help and do her part. So, when we look at this story and we look at Jesus response, we realize that the whole thing is about Martha and not so much about Mary. When Martha, exasperated and flustered and feeling like she’s doing all of the work, comes to Jesus and says these things, Jesus says to her, Martha, Martha. Okay, now listen. You put your name in there. Jane. Tom. Tim. Courtney. Sarah. Brad. You put your name in there. Jesus says, Martha, Martha you are anxious and troubled about many things. See, I can even put my name in there because I find myself in that category often enough. We probably all do. You are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Okay, so what is that one thing then? If we’re anxious and troubled about many things, what is the one thing that is necessary in those times? It’s what Mary was doing. She was sitting at the Lord’s feet and listening to his teaching. Okay, she wasn’t just listening to his teaching, she was in his presence sitting at his feet and listening to his teaching. So, in other words, Martha is anxious and troubled about many things and she’s filling her life with activity, even good activity. Running and running and spinning and spinning. And she’s so busy doing this that she’s missing the fact that the presence of God has entered her home in person. And that is pretty intense because that is a mirror. That is our story. I mean, how many times have you come home after a long stressful day that is just a part of a stressful month that is just a part of a stressful year? And you’re wound up and running, lashing out, saying things like, am I the only one that does anything around here? And being completely unaware that the Lord’s presence is available and it is the one thing that is necessary. Can I get an amen? Because aren’t we getting hit between the eyes on this? We may indeed be anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. And that kind of boils it all down, right? Because we expend a good portion of our energy and time and resources trying to deal with the problems of life that seem to keep mounting up. And so we’re spinning and spinning and spinning to the point that we say that one thing that’s necessary is the one thing I don’t have time for. But maybe there’s no time and we’re anxious and troubled and spinning in circles because we’re not doing the one thing that is necessary. Sitting at the Lord’s feet listening to his teaching. Listening for the voice of the Holy Spirit. Closing down the world around us and allowing God to speak into the situation. Allowing God to speak to what our next steps are. This is pretty strong stuff. This could change the way we live our lives today and every day. This could reorient us to what is true today and every day.

And after this scene in the book of Luke, the disciples ask Jesus to teach them how to pray and we encounter the Lord’s prayer and it’s an abbreviated version of the Lord’s prayer in the gospel of Luke. We normally can quote from memory the Lord’s prayer from the book of Matthew. But immediately after Jesus teaching the Lord’s prayer, he talks about a man who has some guests and who needs some food and goes to his neighbor and knocks on the door. It’s late at night. The neighbor doesn’t want to get up. And Jesus is telling them that because he kept knocking and wouldn’t leave the guy alone, that’s why he got what he needed. And then Jesus says, ask and you will receive. Seek and you will find. Knock and it will be opened to you. Again, super famous passage of Scripture without a doubt. But what Jesus is saying is you have to be involved in this. There’s a collaboration here. You have to ask if you want to receive. You have to seek if you want to find. You have to knock if you want it to be opened to you. And Jesus said that on the heels of what he just said about this person who needed something from his neighbor. So, this is a relentless pursuit, a vigilant, continual, constant thing. We don’t just ask, we don’t just seek for a minute and then move on into the cares of this life. This is something that we’re continually doing, right?  I will seek until I find no matter how long that takes. That’s the sentiment. I will knock until this door opens or until my hand falls off. I am after God and I will seek until I find. I will ask until I receive. I will knock until it’s opened. I will vigilantly, continually, non-stop pursue this. And usually we transfer all of that kind of Scripture into what it is that we are facing as an obstacle right now. But when we mash these two stories together, which find themselves back to back in the gospel of Luke, we can ask, we can seek, we can knock about the cares of this life and that just allows us to continue to spin and spin and spin when only one thing is necessary. And if that one thing, the presence of God, the voice of the Holy Spirit to teach us in this life is the thing that we’re asking for relentlessly, is the thing that we are seeking with all of our heart, is the thing that we will pound on that door until it gets opened, we will get what we are looking for. What Jesus is inviting us to do is go many layers deeper. And the surface cares of this life that are constant, there is no end for things for us to care about. Life requires constant maintenance. And when we don’t maintain one area of our lives, then it’s gonna get broken and then that’s gonna cause one more thing to fix. But the one thing that we need, the one thing that we must ask, seek and knock over is God’s presence. It’s the one thing we’ve got to fight for because life pulls us in all kinds of directions and all of those directions are away from sitting at Jesus feet and listening to his teachings. So we’ve got some things to think about today. How are we ordering our lives?  If it’s misdirected and misordered then it’s not going to work and all we have to do is look to see that it’s not working. The one thing that is necessary is the presence of God in all of it.

Prayer:

Jesus, we recognize what’s going on here. We recognize the layers that are being peeled back in our lives through your word today. And we can see clearly how we got things backward and upside down and how we’re running in circles. And yes, we are anxious and troubled about many things because we have avoided the one thing that is necessary. And, so, we come asking. We are asking that we become aware that You are with us right now. You are here right now. You have never left. We’ve just got caught up in the cares and troubles and anxieties that never stop swirling and will never go away until we learn this one necessary thing. That we must be aware and in collaboration with your presence in and among us. And, so, we ask that we become aware. We are seeking You. And we will not stop seeking because You said if we seek we will find. And we are knocking. We certainly need your help. And we’re not knocking on the door so You will come out and beat up the bad guys and make life good for us. We are knocking so that the door will be opened and that we can walk into your presence. For in your presence, we hear the voice of your Holy Spirit who can help us navigate every situation. And these situations are not as big of a deal as we are making them even though they may look that way. What we need, the one necessary thing, is You. Come Holy Spirit we pray. In Jesus name we ask, we seek and we knock. Amen.

For all of it. And as a community, we pray over that. And I invite you to keep that on your prayer list. Invite you to keep that on your mind. It makes all the difference in the world every year. Sometimes I win and sometimes I lose
But always I try and I never refuse
Cause of nothing is ventured then nothing is to be gained
It is only through work that anything’s obtained
Some people can never seem to do what they’re told
While others can’t do things without being told
There’s often security clinging tight to the trunk
But the fruits out of the limb so one must debunk
And learn to take risk to capture your goal
If you bury your talent that nothing will ever unfold
Talents may vary and sometimes you’ll fall
But just as God to help you He gives hope to all

blindtony1016@gmail.com. Joe the Protector. You’ve been on my mind, you and your daughter. Know you’re in my prayers and my thoughts. Once again, Brian, thank you for this wonderful podcast for God’s Holy Spirit to flow. Keep it flown’ y’all. All right. Bye-bye.

Hi DAB family. This is Caroline and Nashville. It is actually about 1:30 in the morning on Monday, April 2nd. I’m calling because…I’ve actually been meeting to call in several times about this and I keep getting…I don’t know…stuck…or not in a good place to call, but asking for prayer for my dad. His name is Larry. He has a disease called myelodysplastic syndrome. And it’s a form of leukemia that does not have a cure. And he is in his last weeks. I’m not sure it’s months yet. But it’s pretty bad and is going downhill fast and it’s really hard to watch as a family. And he’s currently inpatient. He hasn’t a been sent home yet. He gets stable and then has to come back to the hospital and then he gets stable and gets to go home and then it starts all over again. But I’m calling at 1:30 in the morning because he isn’t right, something’s just is not right. And my stepmother called and said that he asked that me and my sister come in. So, you know, I guess we never know if this is the moment, if this is it, when our loved ones steps to the other side. I don’t know, but I’m asking for prayers family that we’re comforted the matter what happens, that today is the day or if he continues to stay with us for a while, but he’s at peace, that we’re all at peace and that he is comfortable and that we all work together as a family. So, I really appreciate any prayers you can send. I love you all very much. I listen every day. I pray with you. I rejoice with you and I cry with you. And I’m one of those people who pray on the outside but don’t really call in. I’ve called them before but it’s been a while. So, thank you family. I appreciate it.

Hi everybody it’s Margo from Australia and I just heard the call from Sharon the Victorious and I wanted to say a couple of things that really helped me and for anyone suffering depression and anxiety. These are valuable strategies. The first one is, consistently quote Bible verses that speak to your situation. For example, I am always quoting out loud 2 Timothy 1:7 - God has not given me a spirit of fear but a spirit of love power and of a sound mind. You get the slightest twinge of depression or anxiety and you just start saying that verse out loud. It is spiritual warfare. You need to do it consistently. It’s not a magical cure that works instantly. The second thing is, praise. When I regularly spend time just praising Jesus it brings me a lot closer to Him and I feel His presence in my life more and then I feel His joy and His peace much more and it has made a really big difference to my mental health. Put praise songs on and sing along or just talk to Him. Tell Him how much you love Him and how beautiful He is. And thirdly, always, always, confess good things with your mouth. Don’t say that you’re not victorious anymore Sharon. Keep saying that you are victorious. Keep saying that you are whole. Keep saying that you are being delivered from depression. I do want to emphasize that doing these things has made a huge difference in my life, but I have had to do it consistently and keep at it. You can’t just quote one Scripture and sing one praise song and all of a sudden you’re better. It has to become a lifestyle and believe me it will make a big difference in your life. I’m praying right now for those DABbers suffering from depression and anxiety, for His supernatural peace in our hearts today. That’ll be all. Bye for now.

Deuteronomy 29-30

The Covenant Renewed in Moab

29 [a] These are the words of the covenant that the Lord commanded Moses to make with the people of Israel (A)in the land of Moab, besides (B)the covenant that he had made with them at Horeb.

[b] And Moses summoned all Israel and said to them: (C)“You have seen all that the Lord did before your eyes in the land of Egypt, to Pharaoh and to all his servants and to all his land, the great (D)trials that your eyes saw, the signs, and those great wonders. But to this day (E)the Lord has not given you a heart to understand or eyes to see or ears to hear. (F)I have led you forty years in the wilderness. Your clothes have not worn out on you, and your sandals have not worn off your feet. (G)You have not eaten bread, and you have not drunk wine or strong drink, that you may know that I am the Lord your God. And when you came to this place, (H)Sihon the king of Heshbon and Og the king of Bashan came out against us to battle, but we defeated them. We took their land and (I)gave it for an inheritance to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of the Manassites. (J)Therefore keep the words of this covenant and do them, that you may prosper[c] in all that you do.

10 “You are standing today, all of you, before the Lord your God: the heads of your tribes,[d] your elders, and your officers, all the men of Israel, 11 your little ones, your wives, and the (K)sojourner who is in your camp, from (L)the one who chops your wood to the one who draws your water, 12 so that you may enter into the (M)sworn covenant of the Lord your God, which the Lord your God is making with you today, 13 that he may (N)establish you today as his people, and that (O)he may be your God, as he promised you, and (P)as he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. 14 It is not with you alone (Q)that I am making this sworn covenant, 15 but with whoever is standing here with us today before the Lord our God, (R)and with whoever is not here with us today.

16 “You know how we lived in the land of Egypt, and how we came through the midst of the nations through which you passed. 17 And you have seen their detestable things, their idols of wood and stone, of silver and gold, which were among them. 18 Beware lest there be among you a man or woman or clan or tribe whose heart is turning away today from the Lord our God to go and serve the gods of those nations. Beware lest there be among you (S)a root bearing poisonous and bitter fruit, 19 one who, when he hears the words of this sworn covenant, blesses himself in his heart, saying, ‘I shall be safe, though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart.’ This will lead to the sweeping away of moist and dry alike. 20 The Lord will not be willing to forgive him, but rather (T)the anger of the Lord and (U)his jealousy will smoke against that man, and the curses written in this book will settle upon him, and the Lord (V)will blot out his name from under heaven. 21 And the Lord will single him out from all the tribes of Israel for calamity, in accordance with all the curses of the covenant written in this Book of the Law. 22 And the next generation, your children who rise up after you, and the foreigner who comes from a far land, (W)will say, when they see the afflictions of that land and the sicknesses with which the Lord has made it sick— 23 the whole land burned out with brimstone and (X)salt, nothing sown and nothing growing, where no plant can sprout, (Y)an overthrow like that of Sodom and Gomorrah, (Z)Admah, and Zeboiim, which the Lord overthrew in his anger and wrath— 24 all the nations (AA)will say, (AB)‘Why has the Lord done thus to this land? What caused the heat of this great anger?’ 25 Then people will say, ‘It is because they abandoned the covenant of the Lord, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt, 26 and went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods whom they had not known and whom he had not allotted to them. 27 Therefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against this land, (AC)bringing upon it all the curses written in this book, 28 and the Lord (AD)uprooted them from their land in anger and fury and great wrath, and (AE)cast them into another land, as they are this day.’

29 “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.

Repentance and Forgiveness

30 (AF)“And (AG)when all these things come upon you, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before you, and (AH)you call them to mind among all the nations where the Lord your God has driven you, and (AI)return to the Lord your God, you and your children, and obey his voice in all that I command you today, with all your heart and with all your soul, then the Lord your God (AJ)will restore your fortunes and have mercy on you, and he will (AK)gather you again from all the peoples where the Lord your God has scattered you. (AL)If your outcasts are in the uttermost parts of heaven, from there the Lord your God will gather you, and from there he will take you. And the Lord your God will bring you into the land that your fathers possessed, that you may possess it. (AM)And he will make you more prosperous and numerous than your fathers. And (AN)the Lord your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your offspring, (AO)so that you will love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live. And the Lord your God will put all these curses on your foes and enemies who persecuted you. And you shall again obey the voice of the Lord and keep all his commandments that I command you today. (AP)The Lord your God will make you abundantly prosperous in all the work of your hand, in the fruit of your womb and in the fruit of your cattle and in the fruit of your ground. (AQ)For the Lord will again take delight in prospering you, as he took delight in your fathers, 10 when you obey the voice of the Lord your God, to keep his commandments and his statutes that are written in this Book of the Law, when you turn to the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

The Choice of Life and Death

11 “For this commandment that I command you today (AR)is not too hard for you, neither is it far off. 12 (AS)It is not in heaven, that you should say, ‘Who will ascend to heaven for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ 13 Neither is it beyond the sea, that you should say, ‘Who will go over the sea for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ 14 But the word is very near you. It is in your mouth and in your heart, so that you can do it.

15 “See, (AT)I have set before you today life and good, death and evil. 16 If you obey the commandments of the Lord your God[e] that I command you today, (AU)by loving the Lord your God, by walking in his ways, and by keeping his commandments and his statutes and his rules,[f] then you shall live and multiply, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land that you are entering to take possession of it. 17 But if (AV)your heart turns away, and you will not hear, but are drawn away to worship other gods and serve them, 18 (AW)I declare to you today, that you shall surely perish. You shall not live long in the land that you are going over the Jordan to enter and possess. 19 I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, (AX)blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live, 20 loving the Lord your God, obeying his voice (AY)and holding fast to him, for (AZ)he is your life and length of days, that you may dwell in (BA)the land that the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.”

Luke 11:37-12:7

Woes to the Pharisees and Lawyers

37 While Jesus[a] was speaking, (A)a Pharisee asked him to dine with him, so he went in and reclined at table. 38 The Pharisee was astonished to see (B)that he did not first wash before dinner. 39 And the Lord said to him, (C)“Now you Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside you are full of (D)greed and wickedness. 40 (E)You fools! (F)Did not he who made the outside make the inside also? 41 But (G)give as alms those things that are within, and behold, (H)everything is clean for you.

42 (I)“But woe to you Pharisees! For (J)you tithe mint and rue and every herb, and neglect (K)justice and (L)the love of God. (M)These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others. 43 Woe to you Pharisees! For (N)you love the best seat in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces. 44 Woe to you! (O)For you are like unmarked graves, and people walk over them without knowing it.”

45 One of (P)the lawyers answered him, “Teacher, in saying these things you insult us also.” 46 And he said, “Woe to you (Q)lawyers also! For (R)you load people with burdens hard to bear, and you yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of your fingers. 47 (S)Woe to you! For you build the tombs of the prophets whom your fathers killed. 48 (T)So you are witnesses and you (U)consent to the deeds of (V)your fathers, for they killed them, and you build their tombs. 49 Therefore also (W)the Wisdom of God said, (X)‘I will send them (Y)prophets and apostles, (Z)some of whom they will (AA)kill and persecute,’ 50 so that (AB)the blood of all the prophets, shed (AC)from the foundation of the world, may be (AD)charged against this generation, 51 from the blood of (AE)Abel to the blood of (AF)Zechariah, who perished between (AG)the altar and the sanctuary. Yes, I tell you, it will be (AH)required of this generation. 52 Woe to you (AI)lawyers! (AJ)For you have taken away the key of (AK)knowledge. You (AL)did not enter yourselves, and you hindered those who were entering.”

53 As he went away from there, the scribes and the Pharisees began to press him hard and to provoke him to speak about many things, 54 (AM)lying in wait for him, (AN)to catch him in something he might say.

Beware of the Leaven of the Pharisees

12 In the meantime, (AO)when so many thousands of the people had gathered together that they were trampling one another, he began to say to his disciples first, (AP)“Beware of (AQ)the leaven of the Pharisees, (AR)which is hypocrisy. (AS)Nothing is covered up that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. Therefore whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in (AT)private rooms shall be proclaimed on (AU)the housetops.

Have No Fear

“I tell you, my friends, (AV)do not fear those who kill the body, and after that have nothing more that they can do. But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him (AW)who, after he has killed, has authority to cast into hell.[b] Yes, I tell you, fear him! Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies?[c] And (AX)not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, (AY)even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; (AZ)you are of more value than many sparrows.

Psalm 78:1-31

Tell the Coming Generation

A Maskil[a] of (A)Asaph.

78 (B)Give ear, O my people, to my teaching;
incline your ears to the words of my mouth!
(C)I will open my mouth (D)in a parable;
I will utter dark sayings from of old,
things that we have heard and known,
that our (E)fathers have told us.
We will not (F)hide them from their children,
but (G)tell to the coming generation
the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might,
and (H)the wonders that he has done.

He established (I)a testimony in (J)Jacob
and appointed a law in (K)Israel,
which he commanded our fathers
to teach to their children,
that (L)the next generation might know them,
the children yet unborn,
and arise and tell them to their children,
so that they should set their hope in God
and not forget (M)the works of God,
but (N)keep his commandments;
and that they should not be (O)like their fathers,
(P)a stubborn and rebellious generation,
a generation (Q)whose heart was not steadfast,
whose spirit was not faithful to God.

The Ephraimites, armed with[b] the bow,
(R)turned back on the day of battle.
10 They (S)did not keep God's covenant,
but refused to walk according to his law.
11 They (T)forgot his works
and (U)the wonders that he had shown them.
12 In the sight of their fathers (V)he performed wonders
in the land of Egypt, in (W)the fields of Zoan.
13 He (X)divided the sea and let them pass through it,
and made the waters (Y)stand like a heap.
14 (Z)In the daytime he led them with a cloud,
and all the night with a fiery light.
15 He (AA)split rocks in the wilderness
and gave them drink abundantly as from the deep.
16 He made streams come out of (AB)the rock
and caused waters to flow down like rivers.

17 Yet they sinned still more against him,
(AC)rebelling against the Most High in the desert.
18 They (AD)tested God in their heart
by demanding the food they craved.
19 They spoke against God, saying,
(AE)“Can God (AF)spread a table in the wilderness?
20 (AG)He struck the rock so that water gushed out
and streams overflowed.
Can he also give bread
or provide meat for his people?”

21 Therefore, when the Lord heard, he was full of wrath;
(AH)a fire was kindled against Jacob;
his anger rose against Israel,
22 because they (AI)did not believe in God
and did not trust his saving power.
23 Yet he commanded the skies above
and (AJ)opened the doors of heaven,
24 and he (AK)rained down on them manna to eat
and gave them (AL)the grain of heaven.
25 Man ate of the bread of (AM)the angels;
he sent them food (AN)in abundance.
26 He (AO)caused the east wind to blow in the heavens,
and by his power he led out the south wind;
27 he rained meat on them like (AP)dust,
winged birds like (AQ)the sand of the seas;
28 he (AR)let them fall in the midst of their camp,
all around their dwellings.
29 And they (AS)ate and were well filled,
for he gave them what they (AT)craved.
30 But before they had satisfied their craving,
(AU)while the food was still in their mouths,
31 the anger of God rose against them,
and he killed (AV)the strongest of them
and laid low (AW)the young men of Israel.

Proverbs 12:19-20

19 Truthful lips endure forever,
but (A)a lying tongue is but for a moment.
20 Deceit is in the heart of (B)those who devise evil,
but those who plan peace have joy.

Deuteronomy 28

Blessings for Obedience

28 “And (A)if you faithfully obey the voice of the Lord your God, being careful to do all his commandments that I command you today, the Lord your God will set you (B)high above all the nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and (C)overtake you, if you obey the voice of the Lord your God. Blessed shall you be in the city, and (D)blessed shall you be in the field. Blessed shall be (E)the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground and the fruit of your cattle, the increase of your herds and the young of your flock. Blessed shall be your basket and your (F)kneading bowl. Blessed shall you be (G)when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out.

“The Lord (H)will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before you. They shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways. The Lord (I)will command the blessing on you in your barns and (J)in all that you undertake. (K)And he will bless you in the land that the Lord your God is giving you. (L)The Lord will establish you as a people holy to himself, as he has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the Lord your God and walk in his ways. 10 And (M)all the peoples of the earth shall see that you are (N)called by the name of the Lord, and they shall be (O)afraid of you. 11 And (P)the Lord will make you abound in prosperity, in (Q)the fruit of your womb and in the fruit of your livestock and in the fruit of your ground, within the land that the Lord swore to your fathers to give you. 12 The Lord will open to you his good treasury, the heavens, (R)to give the rain to your land in its season and (S)to bless all the work of your hands. And (T)you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow. 13 And the Lord will make you (U)the head and not the tail, and you shall only go up and not down, if you obey the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you today, being careful to do them, 14 (V)and if you do not turn aside from any of the words that I command you today, to the right hand or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.

Curses for Disobedience

15 “But (W)if you will not obey the voice of the Lord your God or be careful to do all his commandments and his statutes that I command you today, then all these curses shall come upon you and (X)overtake you. 16 Cursed shall you be (Y)in the city, and cursed shall you be in the field. 17 Cursed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl. 18 Cursed shall be the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground, the increase of your herds and the young of your flock. 19 Cursed shall you be when you come in, and cursed shall you be when you go out.

20 “The Lord (Z)will send on you curses, confusion, and (AA)frustration in all that you undertake to do, (AB)until you are destroyed and perish quickly on account of the evil of your deeds, because you have forsaken me. 21 The Lord will make (AC)the pestilence stick to you until he has consumed you off the land that you are entering to take possession of it. 22 (AD)The Lord will strike you with wasting disease and with fever, inflammation and fiery heat, and with drought[a] and with (AE)blight and with mildew. They shall pursue you until you perish. 23 And (AF)the heavens over your head shall be bronze, and the earth under you shall be iron. 24 The Lord will make the rain of your land powder. From heaven dust shall come down on you until you are destroyed.

25 (AG)“The Lord will cause you to be defeated before your enemies. You shall go out one way against them and flee seven ways before them. And you (AH)shall be a horror to all the kingdoms of the earth. 26 And (AI)your dead body shall be food for all birds of the air and for the beasts of the earth, and (AJ)there shall be no one to frighten them away. 27 The Lord will strike you (AK)with the boils of Egypt, and with tumors and (AL)scabs and itch, of which you cannot be healed. 28 The Lord will strike you with (AM)madness and blindness and confusion of mind, 29 and you shall (AN)grope at noonday, as the blind grope in darkness, and you shall not prosper in your ways.[b] And you shall be only oppressed and robbed continually, and there shall be no one to help you. 30 (AO)You shall betroth a wife, but another man shall ravish her. (AP)You shall build a house, but you shall not dwell in it. (AQ)You shall plant a vineyard, but you shall not enjoy its fruit. 31 Your ox shall be slaughtered before your eyes, but you shall not eat any of it. Your donkey shall be seized before your face, but shall not be restored to you. Your sheep shall be given to your enemies, but there shall be no one to help you. 32 (AR)Your sons and your daughters shall be given to another people, while your eyes look on and fail with longing for them all day long, (AS)but you shall be helpless. 33 A nation that you have not known shall eat up the fruit of your ground and of all your labors, and you shall be only oppressed and crushed continually, 34 so that you are driven mad (AT)by the sights that your eyes see. 35 The Lord will strike you on the knees and on the legs (AU)with grievous boils of which you cannot be healed, from the sole of your foot to the crown of your head.

36 “The Lord will (AV)bring you and your king whom you set over you to a nation that neither you (AW)nor your fathers have known. And (AX)there you shall serve other gods of wood and stone. 37 And you shall become (AY)a horror, a proverb, and a byword among all the peoples where the Lord will lead you away. 38 (AZ)You shall carry much seed into the field and shall gather in little, for (BA)the locust shall consume it. 39 (BB)You shall plant vineyards and dress them, but you shall neither drink of the wine nor gather the grapes, for the worm shall eat them. 40 You shall have olive trees throughout all your territory, but you (BC)shall not anoint yourself with the oil, for your olives shall drop off. 41 You shall father sons and daughters, but they shall not be yours, for (BD)they shall go into captivity. 42 (BE)The cricket[c] shall possess all your trees and the fruit of your ground. 43 (BF)The sojourner who is among you shall rise higher and higher above you, and you shall come down lower and lower. 44 (BG)He shall lend to you, and you shall not lend to him. (BH)He shall be the head, and you shall be the tail.

45 (BI)“All these curses shall come upon you and pursue you and overtake you till you are destroyed, because you did not obey the voice of the Lord your God, to keep his commandments and his statutes that he commanded you. 46 They shall be (BJ)a sign and a wonder against you and your offspring forever. 47 (BK)Because you did not serve the Lord your God with joyfulness and gladness of heart, because of the abundance of all things, 48 therefore you shall serve your enemies whom the Lord will send against you, in hunger and thirst, in nakedness, and lacking everything. And he (BL)will put a yoke of iron on your neck until he has destroyed you. 49 (BM)The Lord will bring a nation against you from far away, from the end of the earth, (BN)swooping down like the eagle, a nation (BO)whose language you do not understand, 50 a hard-faced nation (BP)who shall not respect the old or show mercy to the young. 51 It shall (BQ)eat the offspring of your cattle and the fruit of your ground, until you are destroyed; it also shall not leave you grain, wine, or oil, the increase of your herds or the young of your flock, until they have caused you to perish.

52 “They shall (BR)besiege you in all your towns, until your high and fortified walls, in which you trusted, come down throughout all your land. And they shall besiege you in all your towns throughout all your land, which the Lord your God has given you. 53 And (BS)you shall eat the fruit of your womb, the flesh of your sons and daughters, whom the Lord your God has given you, (BT)in the siege and in the distress with which your enemies shall distress you. 54 The man who is the most tender and refined among you will (BU)begrudge food to his brother, to (BV)the wife he embraces,[d] and to the last of the children whom he has left, 55 so that he will not give to any of them any of the flesh of his children whom he is eating, because he has nothing else left, (BW)in the siege and in the distress with which your enemy shall distress you in all your towns. 56 (BX)The most tender and refined woman among you, who would not venture to set the sole of her foot on the ground because she is so delicate and tender, will begrudge to the husband she embraces,[e] to her son and to her daughter, 57 her afterbirth that comes out from between her feet and her children whom she bears, because lacking everything she will eat them secretly, (BY)in the siege and in the distress with which your enemy shall distress you in your towns.

58 “If you are not careful to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that you may fear this glorious and awesome name, (BZ)the Lord your God, 59 then the Lord will bring on you and your offspring extraordinary afflictions, afflictions severe and lasting, and sicknesses grievous and lasting. 60 And he will bring upon you again all (CA)the diseases of Egypt, of which you were afraid, and they shall cling to you. 61 Every sickness also and every affliction that is not recorded in the book of this law, the Lord will bring upon you, until you are destroyed. 62 Whereas (CB)you were as numerous (CC)as the stars of heaven, you shall be left few in number, because you did not obey the voice of the Lord your God. 63 And as the Lord (CD)took delight in doing you good and multiplying you, so the Lord will (CE)take delight in bringing ruin upon you and destroying you. And you shall be plucked off the land that you are entering to take possession of it.

64 “And the Lord (CF)will scatter you among all peoples, from one end of the earth to the other, and (CG)there you shall serve other gods (CH)of wood and stone, (CI)which neither you nor your fathers have known. 65 And (CJ)among these nations you shall find no respite, and there shall be no resting place for the sole of your foot, but (CK)the Lord will give you there a trembling heart and failing eyes and (CL)a languishing soul. 66 Your life shall hang in doubt before you. Night and day you shall be in dread and have no assurance of your life. 67 (CM)In the morning you shall say, ‘If only it were evening!’ and at evening you shall say, ‘If only it were morning!’ because of the dread that your heart shall feel, and (CN)the sights that your eyes shall see. 68 And the Lord (CO)will bring you back in ships to Egypt, a journey that I promised that (CP)you should never make again; and there you shall offer yourselves for sale to your enemies as male and female slaves, but there will be no buyer.”

Luke 11:14-36

Jesus and Beelzebul

14 (A)Now he was casting out a demon that was mute. When the demon had gone out, the mute man spoke, and the people marveled. 15 But some of them said, “He casts out demons (B)by Beelzebul, the prince of demons,” 16 while others, (C)to test him, kept seeking from him a sign from heaven. 17 (D)But he, (E)knowing their thoughts, said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and a divided household falls. 18 And if Satan also is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? For you say that I cast out demons by Beelzebul. 19 And if I cast out demons by Beelzebul, (F)by whom do (G)your sons cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges. 20 But if it is by (H)the finger of God that I cast out demons, then (I)the kingdom of God has come upon you. 21 When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his goods are safe; 22 (J)but when one stronger than he attacks him and (K)overcomes him, he takes away his (L)armor in which he trusted and (M)divides his spoil. 23 (N)Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.

Return of an Unclean Spirit

24 (O)“When the unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it passes through (P)waterless places seeking rest, and finding none it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ 25 And when it comes, it finds the house swept and put in order. 26 Then it goes and brings seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and dwell there. And (Q)the last state of that person is worse than the first.”

True Blessedness

27 As he said these things, (R)a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to him, (S)“Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts at which you nursed!” 28 But he said, (T)“Blessed rather are those (U)who hear the word of God and (V)keep it!”

The Sign of Jonah

29 (W)When the crowds were increasing, he began to say, (X)“This generation is an evil generation. (Y)It seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah. 30 For as (Z)Jonah became a sign to the people of Nineveh, so will the Son of Man be to this generation. 31 (AA)The queen of the South will rise up at the judgment with the men of this generation and (AB)condemn them, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, (AC)something greater than Solomon is here. 32 (AD)The men of Nineveh will rise up at the judgment with this generation and (AE)condemn it, for (AF)they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, (AG)something greater than Jonah is here.

The Light in You

33 (AH)“No one after lighting a lamp puts it in a cellar or under a basket, but on a stand, so that those who enter may see the light. 34 Your eye is (AI)the lamp of your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light, but when it is (AJ)bad, your body is full of darkness. 35 (AK)Therefore be careful lest the light in you be darkness. 36 If then your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, it will be wholly bright, (AL)as when a lamp with its rays gives you light.”

Psalm 77

In the Day of Trouble I Seek the Lord

To the choirmaster: according to (A)Jeduthun. A Psalm of (B)Asaph.

77 I (C)cry aloud to God,
aloud to God, and he will hear me.
(D)In the day of my trouble I seek the Lord;
in (E)the night my (F)hand is stretched out without wearying;
my soul (G)refuses to be comforted.
When I remember God, I (H)moan;
when I meditate, my spirit faints. Selah

You hold my eyelids open;
I am so (I)troubled that I cannot speak.
I consider (J)the days of old,
the years long ago.
I said,[a] “Let me remember my (K)song in the night;
let me (L)meditate in my heart.”
Then my spirit made a diligent search:
“Will the Lord (M)spurn forever,
and never again (N)be favorable?
Has his steadfast love forever ceased?
Are his (O)promises at an end for all time?
(P)Has God forgotten to be gracious?
(Q)Has he in anger shut up his compassion?” Selah

10 Then I said, “I will appeal to this,
to the years of the (R)right hand of the Most High.”[b]

11 I will remember the deeds of the Lord;
yes, I will (S)remember your wonders of old.
12 I will ponder all your (T)work,
and meditate on your (U)mighty deeds.
13 Your way, O God, is (V)holy.
(W)What god is great like our God?
14 You are the God who (X)works wonders;
you have (Y)made known your might among the peoples.
15 You (Z)with your arm redeemed your people,
the children of Jacob and Joseph. Selah

16 When (AA)the waters saw you, O God,
when the waters saw you, they were afraid;
indeed, the deep trembled.
17 The clouds poured out water;
the skies (AB)gave forth thunder;
your (AC)arrows flashed on every side.
18 (AD)The crash of your thunder was in the whirlwind;
(AE)your lightnings lighted up the world;
the earth (AF)trembled and shook.
19 Your (AG)way was through the sea,
your path through the great waters;
yet your footprints (AH)were unseen.[c]
20 You (AI)led your people like a flock
by the hand of Moses and Aaron.

Deuteronomy 26-27

Offerings of Firstfruits and Tithes

26 “When you come into the land that the Lord your God is giving you for an inheritance and have taken possession of it and live in it, (A)you shall take some of the first of all the fruit of the ground, which you harvest from your land that the Lord your God is giving you, and you shall put it in a basket, and you shall (B)go to the place that the Lord your God will choose, to make his name to dwell there. And you shall go to the priest who is in office at that time and say to him, ‘I declare today to the Lord your God that I have come into the land (C)that the Lord swore to our fathers to give us.’ Then the priest shall take the basket from your hand and set it down before the altar of the Lord your God.

“And you shall make response before the Lord your God, ‘A (D)wandering Aramean was my father. And he went down into Egypt and sojourned there, (E)few in number, and there he became a nation, great, mighty, and populous. And (F)the Egyptians treated us harshly and humiliated us and laid on us hard labor. Then (G)we cried to the Lord, the God of our fathers, and the Lord heard our voice and saw our affliction, our toil, and our oppression. And (H)the Lord brought us out of Egypt (I)with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, with great deeds of terror,[a] with signs and wonders. And he brought us into this place and gave us this land, (J)a land flowing with milk and honey. 10 And behold, now I bring the first of the fruit of the ground, which you, O Lord, have given me.’ And you shall set it down before the Lord your God and worship before the Lord your God. 11 And (K)you shall rejoice in all the good that the Lord your God has given to you and to your house, you, and the Levite, and the sojourner who is among you.

12 “When you have finished paying all (L)the tithe of your produce in the third year, which is (M)the year of tithing, giving it to the Levite, the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, so that they may eat within your towns and be filled, 13 then you shall say before the Lord your God, ‘I have removed the sacred portion out of my house, and moreover, I have given it to the Levite, the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, according to all your commandment that you have commanded me. I have not transgressed any of your commandments, (N)nor have I forgotten them. 14 (O)I have not eaten of the tithe while I was mourning, or removed any of it while I was unclean, or offered any of it (P)to the dead. I have obeyed the voice of the Lord my God. I have done according to all that you have commanded me. 15 (Q)Look down from your holy habitation, from heaven, and bless your people Israel and the ground that you have given us, as you swore to our fathers, a land flowing with milk and honey.’

16 “This day the Lord your God commands you to do these statutes and rules. You shall therefore be careful to do them with all your heart and with all your soul. 17 (R)You have declared today that the Lord is your God, and that you will walk in his ways, and keep his statutes and his commandments and his rules, and will obey his voice. 18 And the Lord has declared today that you are (S)a people for his treasured possession, as he has promised you, and that you are to keep all his commandments, 19 and that he will set you in praise and in fame and in honor (T)high above all nations (U)that he has made, and that you shall be (V)a people holy to the Lord your God, as he promised.”

The Altar on Mount Ebal

27 Now Moses and the elders of Israel commanded the people, saying, “Keep the whole commandment that I command you today. And on the day (W)you cross over the Jordan to the land that the Lord your God is giving you, you shall set up large stones and plaster them with plaster. (X)And you shall write on them all the words of this law, when you cross over to enter the land that the Lord your God is giving you, (Y)a land flowing with milk and honey, as the Lord, the God of your fathers, has promised you. And when you have crossed over the Jordan, you shall set up these stones, concerning which I command you today, (Z)on Mount Ebal, and you shall plaster them with plaster. And there you shall build an altar to the Lord your God, an altar of stones. (AA)You shall wield no iron tool on them; you shall build an altar to the Lord your God of uncut[b] stones. And you shall offer burnt offerings on it to the Lord your God, and you shall sacrifice peace offerings and (AB)shall eat there, and you (AC)shall rejoice before the Lord your God. And (AD)you shall write on the stones all the words of this law very plainly.”

Curses from Mount Ebal

Then Moses and the Levitical priests said to all Israel, “Keep silence and hear, O Israel: (AE)this day you have become the people of the Lord your God. 10 You shall therefore obey the voice of the Lord your God, keeping his commandments and his statutes, which I command you today.”

11 That day Moses charged the people, saying, 12 “When you have crossed over the Jordan, (AF)these shall stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people: Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph, and Benjamin. 13 And these shall stand on Mount Ebal for the curse: Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali. 14 And (AG)the Levites shall declare to all the men of Israel in a loud voice:

15 (AH)“‘Cursed be the man who makes a carved or cast metal image, an abomination to the Lord, a thing made by the hands of a craftsman, and sets it up in secret.’ (AI)And all the people shall answer and say, ‘Amen.’

16 (AJ)“‘Cursed be anyone who dishonors his father or his mother.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

17 (AK)“‘Cursed be anyone who moves his neighbor's landmark.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

18 (AL)“‘Cursed be anyone who misleads a blind man on the road.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

19 (AM)“‘Cursed be anyone who perverts the justice due to the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

20 (AN)“‘Cursed be anyone who lies with his father's wife, because he has (AO)uncovered his father's nakedness.’[c] And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

21 (AP)“‘Cursed be anyone who lies with any kind of animal.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

22 (AQ)“‘Cursed be anyone who lies with his sister, whether the daughter of his father or the daughter of his mother.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

23 (AR)“‘Cursed be anyone who lies with his mother-in-law.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

24 (AS)“‘Cursed be anyone who strikes down his neighbor in secret.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

25 (AT)“‘Cursed be anyone who takes a bribe to shed innocent blood.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

26 (AU)“‘Cursed be anyone who does not confirm the words of this law by doing them.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

Luke 10:38-11:13

Martha and Mary

38 Now as they went on their way, Jesus[a] entered a village. And a woman named (A)Martha (B)welcomed him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called (C)Mary, who (D)sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” 41 But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are (E)anxious and troubled about many things, 42 but one thing is necessary.[b] Mary has chosen (F)the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”

The Lord's Prayer

11 Now Jesus[c] was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, (G)as John taught his disciples.” And he said to them, (H)“When you pray, say:

(I)“Father, (J)hallowed be (K)your name.
(L)Your kingdom come.
(M)Give us (N)each day our daily bread,[d]
and (O)forgive us our sins,
for we ourselves forgive everyone who is indebted to us.
And (P)lead us not into temptation.”

And he said to them, “Which of you who has a friend will go to him at midnight and say to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves, for a friend of mine has arrived on a journey, and I have nothing to set before him’; and he will answer from within, ‘Do not bother me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed. I cannot get up and give you anything’? I tell you, though he will not get up and give him anything (Q)because he is his friend, yet because of his impudence[e] he will rise and give him whatever he needs. And I tell you, (R)ask, and (S)it will be given to you; (T)seek, and you will find; (U)knock, and it will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. 11 What father among you, if his son asks for[f] a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; 12 or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? 13 If you then, (V)who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father (W)give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

Psalm 76

Who Can Stand Before You?

To the choirmaster: with (A)stringed instruments. A Psalm of (B)Asaph. A Song.

76 In Judah God is (C)known;
his name is great in Israel.
His (D)abode has been established in (E)Salem,
his (F)dwelling place in Zion.
There he (G)broke the flashing arrows,
the shield, the sword, and the weapons of war. Selah

Glorious are you, more majestic
(H)than the mountains full of (I)prey.
(J)The stouthearted were stripped of their spoil;
(K)they sank into sleep;
all the men of war
were unable to use their hands.
At your rebuke, O God of Jacob,
both (L)rider and horse lay stunned.

(M)But you, you are to be feared!
Who can (N)stand before you
when once your anger is roused?
From the heavens you uttered judgment;
(O)the earth feared and was still,
when God (P)arose to establish judgment,
to save all the humble of the earth. Selah

10 Surely (Q)the wrath of man shall praise you;
the remnant[a] of wrath you will put on like a belt.
11 (R)Make your vows to the Lord your God and perform them;
let all around him (S)bring gifts
to him who (T)is to be feared,
12 who (U)cuts off the spirit of princes,
who (V)is to be feared by the kings of the earth.

but a wise man listens to advice.

Deuteronomy 23:1-25:19, Luke 10:13-37, Psalms 75:1-10, Proverbs 12:12-14

Today is the 3rd day of April. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I’m Brian. It is a pleasure to be back with you again today. Hopefully you had a good time with China yesterday. We had been planning an April Fool’s joke where we were gonna switch it up because we usually have something a little strange on April Fool’s Day. And, so we planned it a year ago only to realize as we got closer April 1st is Easter. We can’t do that on Easter. So, we switched it up yesterday and I’m sure you had a good time. And I had a good time jumping over and visiting with our family in the Daily Audio Bible Chronological community. And it’s good to be back here with you today as we continue to take steps forward in the Scriptures this year. So, we’re reading from the English Standard Version this week. And we’ve got a little more ground to cover in the book of Deuteronomy. And, by way of reminder, Deuteronomy is the last three speeches or discussions of Moses. These are the final things that he wants to say. And he’s reminding them who they are and where they’ve come from and where they’re going and who God is and what God expects as they move across the Jordan into the Promise Land. And, so, we’ll dive in. Deuteronomy chapter 23, 24 and 25 today.

Commentary:

Okay. So, Jesus tells the story of the good Samaritan today. An obviously very, very famous story. It’s interesting because we were just in this area. While we were in Israel, we went up to this high rise between Jerusalem and Jericho where we could see the heights of Jerusalem in the distance and we could see down into Jericho. And, so, between Jericho and Jerusalem. So, you’re going from the heights all the way down to below sea level.  And there’s a winding valley known as the Kidron Valley that’s famous in the Scriptures and runs through Jerusalem. It runs all the way down to Jericho. And this is the path that Jesus was talking about and it was notorious for bandits. It’s pretty deserted out there and there’s nowhere to run. I mean, it’s fairly steep. So, Jesus had been asked, how do I inherit eternal life? And Jesus responded, what are the commandments? How do you read them? And the man essentially answered with what we know as the golden rule. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind and you shall love your neighbor as yourself. We’ve heard this probably thousands of times. I mean, we’ve heard this over and over throughout our lives. Have we ever actually paid attention to that though? Because these two commandments, essentially, love God with all that you are and love each other as you love yourself…if you are living into those things then you are walking on the path that leads to life. I mean, there are plenty of rules and regulations and commandments in the Bible. There are plenty of rules and principles and precepts and laws that we examine as we move through the Bible, plenty of this in the New Testament, but it really does come down to, if we are doing those things - loving God with all that we are and loving one another as we love ourselves – then we are fulfilling the law. And, so, the man asks for clarification - who is my neighbor, right? So, I get the part of loving God with all that I am and yes, that is a vigilant, continual, constant thing. It’s an ongoing collaboration and relationship with God. But how do I love my neighbor as I love myself? That is the entire context for the story of the Good Samaritan. The story of the good Samaritan is an illustration for what it looks like to love your neighbor as yourself. And it’s chalk full of disruption, right? Because on the one hand you have a man whose fallen into the hands of robbers who’ve beaten him half to death, you know, just left him on the side of the road and stolen everything he has. And a priest comes by and walks by him on the other side of the road. And a Levite walks by on the other side of the road. And we can find all kinds of reasons for this. Many have given reasons for this, like they thought he was dead and so they didn’t want to become ceremonial unclean by touching a corpse. And, so, they went by on the other side. Fair enough, but Jesus is using this illustration to say that is not loving your neighbor as yourself, right? Making sure you stay ritually pure, according to Mosaic law, is not justification for not loving your neighbor as you love yourself. And then Jesus chooses a Samaritan as the hero of the story, which would have been completely disruptive for these people. The best thing that I could think of to give a modern context would be like you have fallen into the hands of robbers. You have been beaten and left for dead on the side of the road. Your brothers and sisters in Christ, they drive by you, but a member of ISIS comes and rescues you and cares for you and saves you and pays your medical expenses. That’s how disruptive this story of the good Samaritan is. And it calls us away from stereotypes. It calls us to look at a person in need, no matter who they are or how they are or what they are, it invites us that when we encounter a fellow human being and when we have the power to do something about it, that we should. That we really, actually, should do to others, any others, what we would want to be done to us in the same situation. And I think we understand that conceptually, but Jesus isn’t just showing an illustration of a person who loves his neighbor as he loves himself. He’s pricking at stereotype. He’s making a commentary on our biases. And we’re simply revealing that we are, as human beings, we who occupy this planet and breathe air right now, we are all in this together. We are all here on planet Earth together. And we have devised all kinds of ways to segregate ourselves and divide ourselves, which is the story of humanity. It’s in us, it’s in our faith, it’s everywhere. But in this story, these commandments go together. Like, how do you love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength if you don’t love your neighbor as yourself? And if you can’t love your neighbor as yourself, how can you be loving God with all that you are? Because He loves that way. So, we’re being invited to stop looking down on anyone. We’re invited to stop feeling superior. And that is tough stuff. The story that Jesus is telling is loaded. So, let’s just try an exercise today. As we move through our day, let’s catch ourselves, right? Let’s catch ourselves when we are looking down on someone. Let’s catch ourselves when we are not loving our neighbor as we love ourselves. Because it is incredibly revealing just how much of it is in us. And obviously, we’re going to have to invite the Holy Spirit and move beyond all of that which is completely attached to our fears, completely attached to our pride, and completely attached to the things devised that divide us. So, here we are. This is what the narrow path that leads to life looks like. And Jesus said few ever find it. But if we ever wonder what it looks like or if we ever wonder whether we’re on it or not, we have these commandments. Love the Lord your God with all that you are and love your neighbor as you love yourself. And if you’re one of the people that say, yeah, well I don’t really love myself. I’ve done a lot of things I regret. It’s time to love yourself. If for no other reason, so that you can love your neighbor.

Prayer:

Father, we confess, we confess openly and clearly we’re not powerful or capable enough to do this on our own. We’re not. We can be vigilant for a few days, we can pay attention to this for a while, but so many things pull us in so many directions. We’re being manipulated in so many ways that we don’t even recognize it. We live with our biases and they’ve always been there. We don’t know it any other way. And You are coming in and blowing all that up and inviting us to see and be in the world a different way. You’re inviting us to be like Christ, Christ-like in this world, like Jesus. So, Jesus, we confess that there are many ways that we are not that way and invite You, we invite Your Holy Spirit, because there’s some bedrock stuff here. And we’re inviting Your Holy Spirit to help us see, to catch ourselves when we are not being like You in any way. And we are inviting Your Holy Spirit to help us repent. We repent. We change our minds about this. We change our mind and move in another direction. This is repentance. So, come Holy Spirit and help us repent on a continual basis as we face these things inside of us so that Your glory may shine through us into the world so that it is no longer we and our biases and stereotypes and fears and pride that live, but rather it is You who lives within us. Come, Holy Spirit, we pray. In Jesus’ name we ask. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hey everybody. This is Pelham from Birmingham, the leader and head of the Morris clan. It has been brought to my attention that, in the spiritual realm, I am the head of my family. I am to be Jesus as He is to the church. And that is not…I knew that…I’ve read those words and heard them but I didn’t understand what that meant. Wow. Through international prayer and the way He does is stuff, because He’s cool like that, He’s lifted the veil off of my mind in several areas that I did not realize what I was doing. And it’s amazing that He loves me that much. Instead let me go down the dark hallway and not sending in the rescue crew, not coming in there getting me like He’s done five times in my life. He did it again. He came in and He saved me when I didn’t deserve it. Brian, you read my mail, as usual. And that’s it man. Brian, come on, I’ve got to meet you dude, face-to-face. Some It’s time to put Birmingham Alabama somewhere in the long list of tiny little towns that you visit to see people face-to-face. Ahhh…I would love to meet you and Jill and your family. And I would like you all to meet Molly and Anderson and I feel like the times coming. But I needed to call today to say, Blind Tony, man, I mean there’s so many people that I want to pray for. There’s such a long list of people that have reached out to me and been there for me and even blessed me when I just couldn’t expect it. But Blind Tony your prayer from today, everything you said, I thought you were talking to me like it was like right out of my life. I’m the Jewish nation. I forget who comes down and who makes Himself obvious and I forget to fall and then get up again. This time we’re paying attention. We ain’t gonna fall. I love you guys. Have a great day. Bye.

Good morning Daily Audio Bible family. This is Nathan Bloomington Illinois. I hope your week’s going well. I was listening to the commentary and today I listened to it twice two different days and let it soak in. And I think it was the commentary from the 28th. The words of Moses to the people, how, you know, you don’t deserve this, you haven’t earned this, this is a gift. And I was reminded that, you know, Brian was right, you know, we don’t deserve even a nanosecond of God’s time, but we have it. We have His attention. He is ours. We are His. But I was also think about, you know, sometimes we try so hard. We try to find that relationship, we try to get closer and on a scale of one to hundred some of us are 20 and some of us are 80 and it really doesn’t matter because it’s about a personal relationship with God but we constantly strive to be closer to Him and we try and try and try and the harder we try the closer we get to that hundred percent, though we’ll never obtain it. Well then when a setback comes then we’re disappointed. Well, we’ve kind of disappointed ourselves because God doesn’t say, you need to try hard to get closer to me. You need to surrender more. What was funny what our pastor said one time, ‘try harder less and surrender more’ because when we surrender then God fills in that gap to a 100%. No matter where we are at in our relationship He’s bridging that gap. So, just something to think about. So, don’t try harder surrender more. Have a great day. Make it a great day.

Hello DAB family. this is joyful noise from Southern California. Oh my goodness. Can you feel it? Can you feel the stirring in your soul? It’s Thursday the day before Good Friday and I will share, I will confess to you my family that there has been many Easter’s where I was on autopilot doing…you know…checking off the checklist - reading the Bible, listening to the DAB, __ praying, you know next. Read the Bible, listening to the DAB, __, praying. And this year, for some reason, God has been so stirring my soul that when I drive to work and listening to the DAB, I’m crying listening to all the prayer request and just even the stories that or the Scripture that Brian is reading to us. And I will share with you a thought. For some reason this year God’s really brought by attention to the Old Testament. And just hearing Deuteronomy and the of the law and knowing the passion that Moses has first people that they get this. I mean he has to retell it over and over again. It just makes me mindful that even at the end of his life of a life lived well compared to what I’ve got going. You know, I look at him, and I’m like, wow, if only. Well, nobody’s perfect and everyone falls short of the glory of God and we’re never able to compare ourselves. We should look to mentors. And Moses is definitely an amazing leader in my book. To be that passionate at the end of a very long and mostly well lived life, you know, just reminds me that every single day, every single moment is an opportunity to just be so passionate about our mission and be mindful of reminding ourselves as well as others around us. And, so, I just wanted to share with you that, you know, let God stir your soul this season and let him __.

Hi. I am registered to come to the Moore conference in a few weeks. And I guess Jill wasn’t kidding when she said things would come against us when we try to go there. I signed up at the end of November and it’s pretty much been one thing after another since then. But right now it’s coming off at a level of insane. So, it’s a perfect storm of chaos. So, I’m just asking for prayer for my family and all these different things that are going on - work, people going out unexpectedly on medically leave, insurance issues with my mother-in-law, and all these emergencies. So, it’s a little much. So, I’d love your prayers and I’m looking forward to seeing all the wonderful women at the conference.

God bless you all. This is Sophie from Oregon. Would you please pray for me just for the strength to go on? I am in a powerfully hard season that just refuses to die. I have people depending on me and I’ve been serving from an empty cup for so long the thought of another day makes me weep. My sleep is broken, so is my spirit. My health is in the toilet. I’m not even asking anyone to pray for things to get better but would you pray for me to be able to go on? That my life or what passes for a life would somehow give glory to God? Thank you.

Deuteronomy 21:1-22:30 , Luke 9:51-10:12, Psalms 74:1-23 , Proverbs 12:10

(Voice of China Hardin)

Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I’m Brian. Today is the 2nd day of April. Welcome. Today we are going to be reading Deuteronomy 21 through 22, Luke 9:51 through 10 verse 12, Psalm 74 and Proverbs 12:11. It’s an honor to be here with you guys today.

Commentary:

So, as you can probably tell, I’m not Brian. I’m also not Jill. I’m half of them combined to be a whole of myself. If you don’t know, my name is China. And you’ve just been hoodwinked. Just kidding. Nothing has been stolen from you. Hopefully, you did not crash out of this one and think, okay well this is not Brian and I’m not listening to this. We couldn’t do an April Fool’s joke on April 1st because that was Easter and we wanted to keep that the sovereign day that it is and we did not want to crack any jokes. But this has been an ongoing thing for about a year. I thought of this probably around last year and it was too late…before I had the idea it was too late. So, we waited a whole entire year and found out April Fool’s day was on Easter and it’s still April, so, April Fools. We fooled you. So good. But I’m China. I am Brian’s only daughter and I am the voice of Daily Audio Bible Chronological. And we have a lot of fun over there and we have a lot of fun in the Hardin household. And, so, anytime me and my dad have our meetings about what’s kind of going on, this is talked about. So, I’m honored to kind of voice in, to fill in, kind of as a joke but also just honored that I get trusted with his baby…that’s not a baby anymore. It’s like a tween I guess. Probably getting into its rebellious ages. Just kidding. But this is not going to be a forever thing, just for today. But I have enjoyed getting out of my order of chronological. I think I’ve already read this. I definitely have already read today’s Old Testament scripture and have not yet read the chapter in Luke, have definitely not read those Proverbs or Psalms, so that was a treat. That was a little sneak peek into the future. But, yeah, thanks for welcoming me into your space of your DAB. Your Daily Audio Bible every single day. That’s why it’s called daily. But I’m gonna pass this back over to my dad now. I’m gonna go back.. I feel like he's… My dad’s funny but he’s very serious. I feel like my voice should be like this. I think I should have a lot more theological statements but I don’t because I am not Brian. I have the feminine version of his name as my middle name but I’m not him. So, I’m gonna pass this back over to him and I’m finished disrupting your daily routine. But I still love this community. I still love you, but I’m not Brian, I’m China. And he, he will, he’s already waiting for you here tomorrow.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hi Daily Audio Bible. This is Rebecca from Michigan and it’s March 27th, Wednesday…or actually…yeah…it’s Tuesday. Anyways, yesterday I was going to work and I leave like quarter to 5 and it’s pitch dark. And I saw in the highlights this raccoon with something in its mouth. I think he stole a chicken. But anyways, I tried to swerve to keep them hitting him, to go towards my left because there was no cars and I ended up running him over, hitting him with my car. It cracked the bumper on my car. And if I went the other way I would have went in a big ditch. And, so, what I was calling you for is because a couple of days before that I saw two deer walk out in front of me. And then today I had a whole herd of deer walk up in front of me I had to come to a stop, a total stop. And, so, what I want prayer for is driving prayers, because protection, because it’s not a way I want to end up in the hospital since I don’t really have health insurance anyways except for my auto insurance. And, yeah, it’s starting to get to me. So, if you would pray for me because yesterday all I was thinking about was that racoon and his face and I think he had a chicken in his mouth. But I guess that was his last meal. So, yeah, and if he stole it from some farmer he probably would’ve got shot anyways. Yeah, I really need some prayer, protection, driving protection. Thank you. I love you. Bye.

He Daily Audio Bible fam. I never know if my calls are going to be clear enough or loud enough for you guys to hear but I hope they are. I’m calling tonight, it’s March 27th and on a walk kind of listening to, I think back of the 26th today and I heard some calls and I just want to specifically reach out to Nicole in Florida who said she’s not a new believer but she has never really consistently walked with God. And I am in a similar place in my life…like…you know…I never counted myself as a nonbeliever fully but I’ve never really walked with the Lord. And this year is a year for me to do that. Today I just want to confess that I fell a little moment in time. I was having a conversation with somebody and I had an opportunity to speak really about going to church and something my pastor had said and I spoke about it but I failed to mention that it was from church and the pastor. And I don’t know why that happened it just felt like a failure to me in that regard but I am forgiven and I will continue to move forward and look for new opportunities to speak life into people. I want to say thank all to everybody that calls in on a consistent basis. I don’t know everybody’s name but Blind Tony, I’ll say your name specifically I always look forward to what you have to say and Candice from Oregon, Morgan I’m always looking forward to hearing from you and my prayers are with you guys and everybody else in the DAB family. Thank you all for being there. I look forward to hearing more of your prayers and just continuing this journey with you guys. Thank you.

Good morning on this rather rainy Wednesday, the 28th of March. I’m calling for prayer today. So, I’ve been basically independent from a very young age, which has definitely been…I’ve definitely grown up with and I’m still very independent now, so much so that you know when my arms are full and I’m carrying lots of stuff I would juggle stuff around, open the door for myself rather than let someone who’s with me open the door for me. You know, I really struggle to let other people help me and that relates to God as well. You know, I’m very good at doing things in my own strength. And because I do things in my own strength I burn out. But I want to rely on God. I want to rely on His strength. How did you do that? So, I would appreciate any helpful hints or tips that you might want to share on my Facebook. I’m at Michaela Baker at DAB friends and you can also send me an email to mkb204@hotmail.co.uk. Let’s pray. Father God, we love You. I love You and I want You to be my strength. You are my strength. I want You to be my shepherd. Teach me to follow the Lord. Teach me to rely on You and Your strength and to be open to your leadings. Open up my eyes, my ears, and heart to see where You are leading me. Help me listen Lord and focus only on You and have You. Let you take the lead of my life. Help me be…

Hello, my name is Lisa from Kansas and I’m struggling with major depression and I really could use the prayers. I’m really having a rough time. Again, this is Lisa from Kansas. I really am needing your prayers to fight this. Bye.

Hi this is Sharon the victorious from Northern California. I really can’t call myself victorious anymore. I do pray for all of you but I really need your prayers. My husband, his back is so bad he can barely walk. My daughter was just taken into the hospital for an overdose yesterday. She’s homeless because she got violent here. She pepper sprayed me and she attacked her father and she kicked stuff, so we had to let her out. Not that we wanted to but we’ve taken her in so many times but she’s a drug addict and bipolar and she needs your help. She needs your help so bad. I don’t know what she’s doing on the street. She’s small. And then on Sunday I found out that I have a nodule on my lung. They don’t know what it is, if it’s cancer what. I don’t really care about myself, but I do care about my husband and my daughter and especially my daughter right now because we can’t take Karen. We’ve done it too many times and I need your prayers. I need you so bad. Please, please pray for me and my family. I give up for my life for my daughter or my husband or my sons. I just need you guys. Please pray for me. I do pray for you. And thank you Brian. Bless you all.

The Daily Audio Bible Reading for Tuesday April 3, 2018 (NIV)

Deuteronomy 23-25

Those Excluded from the Assembly

23 “No one whose testicles are crushed or whose male organ is cut off shall enter the assembly of the Lord.

(A)“No one born of a forbidden union may enter the assembly of the Lord. Even to the tenth generation, none of his descendants may enter the assembly of the Lord.

(B)“No Ammonite or Moabite may enter the assembly of the Lord. Even to the tenth generation, none of them may enter the assembly of the Lord forever, (C)because they did not meet you with bread and with water on the way, when you came out of Egypt, and because they (D)hired against you Balaam the son of Beor from Pethor of (E)Mesopotamia, to curse you. But the Lord your God would not listen to Balaam; instead the Lord your God turned (F)the curse into a blessing for you, because the Lord your God loved you. You (G)shall not seek their peace or their prosperity all your days forever.

“You shall not abhor an Edomite, for (H)he is your brother. You shall not abhor an Egyptian, because (I)you were a sojourner in his land. Children born to them in the third generation may enter the assembly of the Lord.

Uncleanness in the Camp

“When you are encamped against your enemies, then you shall keep yourself from every evil thing.

10 “If any man among you becomes (J)unclean because of a nocturnal emission, then he shall go outside the camp. He shall not come inside the camp, 11 but when evening comes, he shall (K)bathe himself in water, and as the sun sets, he may come inside the camp.

12 “You shall have a place outside the camp, and you shall go out to it. 13 And you shall have a trowel with your tools, and when you sit down outside, you shall dig a hole with it and turn back and cover up your excrement. 14 Because (L)the Lord your God walks in the midst of your camp, to deliver you and to give up your enemies before you, therefore your camp must be holy, so that he may not see anything indecent among you and turn away from you.

Miscellaneous Laws

15 (M)“You shall not give up to his master a slave[a] who has escaped from his master to you. 16 He shall dwell with you, in your midst, in the place that he shall choose within one of your towns, wherever it suits him. You shall not wrong him.

17 “None of the (N)daughters of Israel shall be a cult prostitute, and none (O)of the sons of Israel shall be a cult prostitute. 18 You shall not bring the fee of a prostitute or the wages of a dog[b] into the house of the Lord your God in payment for any vow, for both of these are an abomination to the Lord your God.

19 (P)“You shall not charge interest on loans to your brother, (Q)interest on money, interest on food, interest on anything that is lent for interest. 20 (R)You may charge a foreigner interest, but you may not charge your brother interest, (S)that the Lord your God may bless you in all that you undertake in the land that you are entering to take possession of it.

21 (T)“If you make a vow to the Lord your God, you shall not delay fulfilling it, for the Lord your God will surely require it of you, and you will be guilty of sin. 22 But if you refrain from vowing, you will not be guilty of sin. 23 You shall be careful to do what has passed your lips, for you have voluntarily vowed to the Lord your God what you have promised with your mouth.

24 “If you go into your neighbor's vineyard, you may eat your fill of grapes, as many as you wish, but you shall not put any in your bag. 25 If you go into your neighbor's standing grain, (U)you may pluck the ears with your hand, but you shall not put a sickle to your neighbor's standing grain.

Laws Concerning Divorce

24 “When a man takes a wife and marries her, if then she finds no favor in his eyes because he has found some indecency in her, and (V)he writes her a certificate of divorce and puts it in her hand and sends her out of his house, and she departs out of his house, and if she goes and becomes another man's wife, and the latter man hates her and writes her a certificate of divorce and puts it in her hand and sends her out of his house, or if the latter man dies, who took her to be his wife, then (W)her former husband, who sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife, after she has been defiled, for that is an abomination before the Lord. And you shall not bring sin upon the land that the Lord your God is giving you for an inheritance.

Miscellaneous Laws

(X)“When a man is newly married, he shall not go out with the army or be liable for any other public duty. He shall be free at home one year (Y)to be happy with his wife[c] whom he has taken.

“No one shall take a mill or an upper millstone in pledge, for that would be taking a life in pledge.

(Z)“If a man is found stealing one of his brothers of the people of Israel, and if he (AA)treats him as a slave or sells him, then that thief shall die. (AB)So you shall purge the evil from your midst.

“Take care, in (AC)a case of leprous[d] disease, to be very careful to do according to all that the Levitical priests shall direct you. As I commanded them, so you shall be careful to do. Remember what the Lord your God did to (AD)Miriam (AE)on the way as you came out of Egypt.

10 “When you make your neighbor a loan of any sort, you shall not go into his house to collect his pledge. 11 You shall stand outside, and the man to whom you make the loan shall bring the pledge out to you. 12 And if he is a poor man, you shall not sleep in his pledge. 13 (AF)You shall restore to him the pledge as the sun sets, that he may sleep in his cloak and (AG)bless you. And (AH)it shall be righteousness for you before the Lord your God.

14 “You shall not (AI)oppress a hired worker who is poor and needy, whether he is one of your brothers or one of the sojourners who are in your land within your towns. 15 (AJ)You shall give him his wages on the same day, before the sun sets (for he is poor and counts on it), (AK)lest he cry against you to the Lord, and you be guilty of sin.

16 (AL)“Fathers shall not be put to death because of their children, nor shall children be put to death because of their fathers. Each one shall be put to death for his own sin.

17 (AM)“You shall not pervert the justice due to the sojourner or to the fatherless, (AN)or take a widow's garment in pledge, 18 but (AO)you shall remember that you were a slave in Egypt and the Lord your God redeemed you from there; therefore I command you to do this.

19 (AP)“When you reap your harvest in your field and forget a sheaf in the field, you shall not go back to get it. It shall be for the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, (AQ)that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands. 20 When you beat your olive trees, you shall not go over them again. It shall be for the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow. 21 When you gather the grapes of your vineyard, you shall not strip it afterward. It shall be for the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow. 22 (AR)You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt; therefore I command you to do this.

25 “If there is a (AS)dispute between men and they come into court and the judges decide between them, (AT)acquitting the innocent and condemning the guilty, then if the guilty man deserves to be beaten, the judge shall cause him to lie down and be beaten in his presence with a number of stripes in proportion to his offense. (AU)Forty stripes may be given him, but not more, lest, if one should go on to beat him with more stripes than these, your brother be degraded in your sight.

(AV)“You shall not muzzle an ox when it is treading out the grain.

Laws Concerning Levirate Marriage

(AW)“If brothers dwell together, and one of them dies and has no son, the wife of the dead man shall not be married outside the family to a stranger. Her (AX)husband's brother shall go in to her and take her as his wife and perform the duty of a husband's brother to her. And the first son whom she bears shall succeed to the name of his dead brother, that (AY)his name may not be blotted out of Israel. And if the man does not wish to take his brother's wife, then his brother's wife shall (AZ)go up to the gate to the elders and say, ‘My husband's brother refuses to perpetuate his brother's name in Israel; he will not perform the duty of a husband's brother to me.’ Then the elders of his city shall call him and speak to him, and if he persists, saying, (BA)‘I do not wish to take her,’ then his brother's wife shall go up to him in the presence of the elders and (BB)pull his sandal off his foot and (BC)spit in his face. And she shall answer and say, ‘So shall it be done to the man who does not (BD)build up his brother's house.’ 10 And the name of his house[e] shall be called in Israel, ‘The house of him who had his sandal pulled off.’

Miscellaneous Laws

11 “When men fight with one another and the wife of the one draws near to rescue her husband from the hand of him who is beating him and puts out her hand and seizes him by the private parts, 12 then you shall cut off her hand. (BE)Your eye shall have no pity.

13 “You (BF)shall not have in your bag two kinds of weights, a large and a small. 14 You shall not have in your house two kinds of measures, a large and a small. 15 A full and fair[f] weight you shall have, a full and fair measure you shall have, (BG)that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you. 16 For (BH)all who do such things, all who act dishonestly, (BI)are an abomination to the Lord your God.

17 (BJ)“Remember what Amalek did to you (BK)on the way as you came out of Egypt, 18 how he attacked you on the way when you were faint and weary, and (BL)cut off your tail, those who were lagging behind you, and he did not fear God. 19 Therefore (BM)when the Lord your God has given you rest from all your enemies around you, in the land that the Lord your God is giving you for an inheritance to possess, you shall (BN)blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven; you shall not forget.

Luke 10:13-37

Woe to Unrepentant Cities

13 (A)“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works done in you had been done in (B)Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. 14 (C)But it will be more bearable in the judgment for (D)Tyre and Sidon than for you. 15 And you, Capernaum, (E)will you be exalted to heaven? You shall be brought down to (F)Hades.

16 (G)“The one who hears you hears me, and (H)the one who rejects you rejects me, and (I)the one who rejects me rejects him who sent me.”

The Return of the Seventy-Two

17 (J)The seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord, (K)even the demons are subject to us in your name!” 18 And he said to them, (L)“I saw Satan (M)fall like lightning from heaven. 19 Behold, I have given you authority (N)to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of (O)the enemy, and (P)nothing shall hurt you. 20 (Q)Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that (R)your names are written in heaven.”

Jesus Rejoices in the Father's Will

21 (S)In that same hour (T)he rejoiced (U)in the Holy Spirit and said, “I thank you, Father, (V)Lord of heaven and earth, that (W)you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and (X)revealed them to little children; yes, Father, for (Y)such was your gracious will.[a] 22 (Z)All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows who the Son is (AA)except the Father, or who the Father is (AB)except the Son and anyone (AC)to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”

23 Then turning to the disciples he said privately, (AD)“Blessed are the eyes that see what you see! 24 For I tell you (AE)that many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.”

The Parable of the Good Samaritan

25 (AF)And behold, a (AG)lawyer stood up to (AH)put him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to (AI)inherit eternal life?” 26 He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How do you read it?” 27 And he answered, (AJ)“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and (AK)your neighbor as yourself.” 28 And he said to him, “You have answered correctly; (AL)do this, and you will live.”

29 But he, (AM)desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” 30 Jesus replied, “A man (AN)was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. 31 Now by chance a (AO)priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. 32 So likewise (AP)a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a (AQ)Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion. 34 He went to him and (AR)bound up his wounds, pouring on (AS)oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 And the next day he took out two (AT)denarii[b] and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, ‘Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.’ 36 Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?” 37 He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” And Jesus said to him, “You go, and do likewise.”

Psalm 75

God Will Judge with Equity

To the choirmaster: according to (A)Do Not Destroy. (B)A Psalm of Asaph. A Song.

75 We give thanks to you, O God;
we give thanks, for your name is (C)near.
We[a] recount your wondrous deeds.

“At (D)the set time that I appoint
I will judge (E)with equity.
When the earth (F)totters, and all its inhabitants,
it is I who keep steady its (G)pillars. Selah
I say to the boastful, ‘Do not boast,’
and to the wicked, (H)‘Do not lift up your horn;
do not lift up your horn on high,
or speak with haughty neck.’”

For not from the east or from the west
and not from the wilderness comes (I)lifting up,
but it is (J)God who executes judgment,
(K)putting down one and lifting up another.
(L)For in the hand of the Lord there is (M)a cup
with foaming wine, (N)well mixed,
and he pours out from it,
and all the wicked of the earth
shall (O)drain it down to the dregs.

But I will declare it forever;
I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.
10 (P)All the horns of the wicked I will cut off,
(Q)but the horns of the righteous shall be lifted up.

Proverbs 12:12-14

12 Whoever is wicked covets (A)the spoil of evildoers,
but the root of the righteous bears fruit.
13 An evil man is ensnared (B)by the transgression of his lips,[a]
(C)but the righteous escapes from trouble.
14 From the fruit of his mouth (D)a man is satisfied with good,
(E)and the work of a man's hand comes back to him.

Deuteronomy 21-22

Atonement for Unsolved Murders

21 “If in the land that the Lord your God is giving you to possess someone is found slain, lying in the open country, and it is not known who killed him, then your elders and your judges shall come out, and they shall measure the distance to the surrounding cities. And the elders of the city that is nearest to the slain man shall take a heifer (A)that has never been worked and that has not pulled in a yoke. And the elders of that city shall bring the heifer down to a valley with running water, which is neither plowed nor sown, and shall break the heifer's neck there in the valley. Then the priests, the sons of Levi, shall come forward, for the Lord your God has chosen (B)them to minister to him and to bless in the name of the Lord, and (C)by their word every dispute and every assault shall be settled. And all the elders of that city nearest to the slain man (D)shall wash their hands over the heifer whose neck was broken in the valley, and they shall testify, ‘Our hands did not shed this blood, nor did our eyes see it shed. Accept atonement, O Lord, for your people Israel, whom you have redeemed, and (E)do not set the guilt of innocent blood in the midst of your people Israel, so that their blood guilt be atoned for.’ So (F)you shall purge the guilt of innocent blood from your midst, when you do what is right in the sight of the Lord.

Marrying Female Captives

10 “When you go out to war against your enemies, and the Lord your God gives them into your hand and you take them captive, 11 and you see among the captives a beautiful woman, and you desire to take her to be your wife, 12 and you bring her home to your house, she shall shave her head and pare her nails. 13 And she shall take off the clothes in which she was captured and shall remain in your house and (G)lament her father and her mother a full month. After that you may go in to her and be her husband, and she shall be your wife. 14 But if you no longer delight in her, you shall (H)let her go where she wants. But you shall not sell her for money, nor shall you (I)treat her as a slave, since you have humiliated her.

Inheritance Rights of the Firstborn

15 “If a man has two wives, (J)the one loved and the other unloved, and both the loved and the unloved have borne him children, and if the firstborn son belongs to the unloved,[a] 16 then on the day when (K)he assigns his possessions as an inheritance to his sons, he may not treat the son of the loved as the firstborn in preference to the son of the unloved, who is the firstborn, 17 but he shall acknowledge the firstborn, the son of the unloved, by giving him a double portion of all that he has, for he is (L)the firstfruits of his strength. (M)The right of the firstborn is his.

A Rebellious Son

18 “If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey the voice of his father or the voice of his mother, and, though they discipline him, will not listen to them, 19 then his father and his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his city at the gate of the place where he lives, 20 and they shall say to the elders of his city, ‘This our son is stubborn and rebellious; he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton and a drunkard.’ 21 (N)Then all the men of the city shall stone him to death with stones. (O)So you shall purge the evil from your midst, (P)and all Israel shall hear, and fear.

A Man Hanged on a Tree Is Cursed

22 “And if a man has committed a crime punishable by death and he is put to death, and you hang him on a tree, 23 (Q)his body shall not remain all night on the tree, but you shall bury him the same day, for (R)a hanged man is cursed by God. (S)You shall not defile your land that the Lord your God is giving you for an inheritance.

Various Laws

22 “You (T)shall not see your brother's ox or his sheep going astray and ignore them. You shall take them back to your brother. And if he does not live near you and you do not know who he is, you shall bring it home to your house, and it shall stay with you until your brother seeks it. Then you shall restore it to him. And you shall do the same with his donkey or with his garment, or with any lost thing of your brother's, which he loses and you find; you may not ignore it. (U)You shall not see your brother's donkey or his ox fallen down by the way and ignore them. You shall help him to lift them up again.

“A woman shall not wear a man's garment, nor shall a man put on a woman's cloak, (V)for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord your God.

“If you come across a bird's nest in any tree or on the ground, with young ones or eggs and the mother sitting on the young or on the eggs, (W)you shall not take the mother with the young. You shall let the mother go, but the young you may take for yourself, (X)that it may go well with you, and that you may live long.

“When you build a new house, you shall make a parapet for your roof, that you may not bring the guilt of blood upon your house, if anyone should fall from it.

(Y)“You shall not sow your vineyard with two kinds of seed, lest the whole yield be forfeited,[b] the crop that you have sown and the yield of the vineyard. 10 You shall not plow with an ox and a donkey together. 11 You shall not wear cloth of wool and linen mixed together.

12 (Z)“You shall make yourself tassels on the four corners of the garment with which you cover yourself.

Laws Concerning Sexual Immorality

13 “If any man takes a wife and (AA)goes in to her and then hates her 14 and accuses her of misconduct and brings a bad name upon her, saying, ‘I took this woman, and when I came near her, I did not find in her evidence of virginity,’ 15 then the father of the young woman and her mother shall take and bring out the evidence of her virginity to the elders of the city in the gate. 16 And the father of the young woman shall say to the elders, ‘I gave my daughter to this man to marry, and he hates her; 17 and behold, he has accused her of misconduct, saying, “I did not find in your daughter evidence of virginity.” And yet this is the evidence of my daughter's virginity.’ And they shall spread the cloak before the elders of the city. 18 Then the elders of that city shall take the man and whip[c] him, 19 and they shall fine him a hundred shekels[d] of silver and give them to the father of the young woman, because he has brought a bad name upon a virgin[e] of Israel. And she shall be his wife. (AB)He may not divorce her all his days. 20 But if the thing is true, that evidence of virginity was not found in the young woman, 21 then they shall bring out the young woman to the door of her father's house, and (AC)the men of her city shall stone her to death with stones, because she has (AD)done an outrageous thing in Israel by whoring in her father's house. (AE)So you shall purge the evil from your midst.

22 (AF)“If a man is found lying with the wife of another man, both of them shall die, the man who lay with the woman, and the woman. (AG)So you shall purge the evil from Israel.

23 “If there is a (AH)betrothed virgin, and a man meets her in the city and lies with her, 24 then you shall bring them both out to the gate of that city, and you shall stone them to death with stones, the young woman because she did not cry for help though she was in the city, and the man because he violated his neighbor's wife. (AI)So you shall purge the evil from your midst.

25 “But if in the open country a man meets a young woman who is betrothed, and the man seizes her and lies with her, then only the man who lay with her shall die. 26 But you shall do nothing to the young woman; she has committed no offense punishable by death. For this case is like that of a man attacking and murdering his neighbor, 27 because he met her in the open country, and though the betrothed young woman cried for help there was no one to rescue her.

28 (AJ)“If a man meets a virgin who is not betrothed, and seizes her and lies with her, and they are found, 29 then the man who lay with her shall give to the father of the young woman fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife, because he has violated her. He may not divorce her all his days.

30 [f] (AK)“A man shall not take his father's wife, so that he does not (AL)uncover his father's nakedness.[g]

A Samaritan Village Rejects Jesus

51 When the days drew near for (A)him to be taken up, (B)he set his face (C)to go to Jerusalem. 52 And (D)he sent messengers ahead of him, who went and entered a village of (E)the Samaritans, to make preparations for him. 53 But (F)the people did not receive him, because (G)his face was set toward Jerusalem. 54 And when his disciples James and John saw it, they said, “Lord, do you want us to tell (H)fire to come down from heaven and consume them?”[a] 55 But he turned and rebuked them.[b] 56 And they went on to another village.

The Cost of Following Jesus

57 As they were going (I)along the road, (J)someone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” 58 And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” 59 To another he said, “Follow me.” But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” 60 And Jesus[c] said to him, “Leave (K)the dead to bury their own dead. But as for you, go and (L)proclaim the kingdom of God.” 61 Yet another said, “I will follow you, Lord, (M)but let me first say farewell to those at my home.” 62 Jesus said to him, (N)“No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”

Jesus Sends Out the Seventy-Two

10 After this the Lord appointed (O)seventy-two[d] others and (P)sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to go. (Q)And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. (R)Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. Go your way; (S)behold, I am sending you out as lambs in the midst of wolves. (T)Carry no moneybag, no knapsack, no sandals, and (U)greet no one on the road. Whatever house you enter, first say, (V)‘Peace be to this house!’ And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest upon him. But if not, (W)it will return to you. And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for (X)the laborer deserves his wages. Do not go from house to house. Whenever you enter a town and they receive you, eat what is set before you. Heal the sick in it and say to them, (Y)‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’ 10 But whenever you enter a town and they do not receive you, go into its streets and say, 11 (Z)‘Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that (AA)the kingdom of God has come near.’ 12 I tell you, (AB)it will be more bearable on (AC)that day for Sodom than for that town.

Psalm 74

Arise, O God, Defend Your Cause

A Maskil[a] of (A)Asaph.

74 O God, why do you (B)cast us off forever?
Why does your anger (C)smoke against (D)the sheep of your pasture?
(E)Remember your congregation, which you have (F)purchased of old,
which you have (G)redeemed to be (H)the tribe of your heritage!
Remember Mount Zion, (I)where you have dwelt.
Direct your steps to (J)the perpetual ruins;
the enemy has destroyed everything in the sanctuary!

Your foes have (K)roared in the midst of your meeting place;
(L)they set up their (M)own signs for (N)signs.
They were like those who swing (O)axes
in a forest of trees.[b]
And all its (P)carved wood
they broke down with hatchets and hammers.
They (Q)set your sanctuary on fire;
they (R)profaned (S)the dwelling place of your name,
bringing it down to the ground.
They (T)said to themselves, “We will utterly subdue them”;
they burned all the meeting places of God in the land.

We do not see our (U)signs;
(V)there is no longer any prophet,
and there is none among us who knows how long.
10 How long, O God, (W)is the foe to scoff?
Is the enemy to revile your name forever?
11 Why (X)do you hold back your hand, your right hand?
Take it from the fold of your garment[c] and destroy them!

12 Yet (Y)God my King is from of old,
working salvation in the midst of the earth.
13 You (Z)divided the sea by your might;
you (AA)broke the heads of (AB)the sea monsters[d] on the waters.
14 You crushed the heads of (AC)Leviathan;
you gave him as food for the creatures of the wilderness.
15 You (AD)split open springs and brooks;
you (AE)dried up ever-flowing streams.
16 Yours is the day, yours also the night;
you have established (AF)the heavenly lights and the sun.
17 You have (AG)fixed all the boundaries of the earth;
you have made (AH)summer and winter.

18 (AI)Remember this, O Lord, how the enemy scoffs,
and (AJ)a foolish people reviles your name.
19 Do not deliver the soul of your (AK)dove to the wild beasts;
(AL)do not forget the life of your poor forever.

20 Have regard for (AM)the covenant,
for (AN)the dark places of the land are full of the habitations of violence.
21 Let not (AO)the downtrodden (AP)turn back in shame;
let (AQ)the poor and needy praise your name.

22 Arise, O God, (AR)defend your cause;
(AS)remember how the foolish scoff at you all the day!
23 Do not forget the clamor of your foes,
(AT)the uproar of those who rise against you, which goes up continually!

Deuteronomy 18:1-20:20, Luke 9:28-50, Psalms 73:1-28, Proverbs 12:10

Today is the 1st day of April, Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian. It’s great to be here with you today. And is not just the first day of April, today is Easter Sunday. The most important day in human history, resurrection Sunday. And we’ve been spending an entire season contemplating the things that are out of alignment in our lives and going through the Lenten season and truly contemplating what sin does to us, steals, kills, and destroys us. And we moved through the last couple of days deeply contemplating the cost of removing the darkness from our lives. And here we are. All of that is over. We have been set free. Christ our savior is risen.

Keith Green – The Victor Lyrics

Swallowed into earth’s dark womb
And death has triumphed
That’s what they say
But tried to hold him in the tomb
The son of life
Rose on the third day

 Just look
The gates of hell
They’re falling
Crumbling from the inside out
He’s bursting through
The walls with laughter (hah!)
Listen to the angels shout

It is finished
He has done it
Life conquered death
Jesus christ
Has won it

His plan of battle
You know it
He fooled them all
They led him off to prison to die
But as he entered hades hall

He broke those hellish chains with a cry
Just listen to those demons screaming
See him bruise the serpent’s head
The prisoners of hell
He’s redeeming (oh!)
All the power of death is dead

It is finished
He has done it
Life conquered death
Jesus christ
Has won it
Just look

The gates of hell they’re falling
Crumbling from the inside out
He’s bursting through the walls with laughter (hah!)
Listen to the angels shout
(listen, oh, listen)

 It is finished
He has done it
Life conquered death
Jesus christ
Has won it

It is finished
He has done it
Life conquered death
Jesus christ
Has won it

So, we’ve got a brand-new, shiny, sparkly week out in front of us. And we begin this week on the shiniest and sparkliest of all days. Happy Easter everybody. May we rejoice in our salvation. This week we will read from the English standard version. And of, course, as this is the case every single day. We’ll pick up where we left off. And where we left off is in the book of Deuteronomy where Moses is speaking his final statements to the children of Israel. Today we’ll read Deuteronomy chapter 18, 19 and 20.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word. We thank You that it washes over us, cleansing us, setting us aright, inspiring us, correcting us, leading us toward You. And as we begin this brand-new week we are rejoicing with every cell in our bodies because You came for us. You were victorious over death and the grave. You were victorious over sin and darkness and You have invited us to collaborate with You in Your kingdom in this world to replace darkness with light and life and good news. And this good news is that we are no longer separated from one another. We are reunited in relationship and fellowship in friendship and intimacy and collaboration in life and we thank You. We are rejoicing because of this gift, a gift that we certainly can’t manufacture, a gift that we certainly cannot buy, a gift that we certainly cannot earn, but one that You give to us freely, restoring us to who we were created to be. Sin no longer has a claim to us other than what we allow. We invite Your Holy Spirit to make this a reality in our lives, that we might walk upright and true and like Christ, our Savior, in this world. We rejoice in Your victory, and we rejoice that You have bestowed that victory upon us. We thank You Father for this Easter morning, a day where our brothers and sisters millions and millions, billions of us around the world are all rejoicing together, where we set aside our cultural and theological and political differences and rejoice in the one essential thing, You are the victor. You have been victorious and You have brought salvation to mankind. We Love You Jesus and we worship You. We ask Holy Spirit that You make the joy of our salvation burn bright around the world today. In Jesus’ name we ask. Amen.

Song:

Death where is Your Sting – Cory Asbury

For God so loved the world, He gave His Son
To bear the weight of sin, He bled for us
From Heaven’s highest place, He took a fall
And there was just one life, laid down for all

Death, where is your sting?
Grave, where is your victory?
He’s alive, He’s alive
He is risen!

Behold the vacant tomb that held our Lord
That grave became the stage for Heaven’s glory
And behold the Risen King in open skies
He is the Resurrection, He is the life

Death, where is your sting?
Grave, where is your victory?
He’s alive, He’s alive
He is risen!

No weapon formed against us will prosper
The gates of hell won’t stand
Your Church will rise from glory to glory
In the name of Jesus
No weapon formed against us will prosper
The gates of hell won’t stand
And Your Church will rise from glory to glory

In the name of Jesus
Death, where is your sting?
Grave, where is your victory?
He’s alive, He’s alive
He is risen!

Death, where is your sting?
Grave, where is your victory?
He’s alive, He’s alive
He is risen!
