Jeremiah 1:1-2:30, Philippians 4:1-23, Psalms 75:1-10, Proverbs 24:17-20

Today is the 3rd day of October welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian and it’s great to be here with you today as we gather around the Global Campfire and move forward together. So, we have moved into a new week. We have moved into a new month. Now today because we finished the book of Isaiah yesterday, we’re moving into a new book in the Old Testament. We’ll also be concluding a letter in the New Testament today. So, movement is happening. So, when we get to the New Testament, we’ll finish the book of Philippians.

Introduction to the book of Jeremiah:

But now here at the beginning in the Old Testament, we have reached the beginning of the book of Jeremiah, which is a part of the grouping of books known as the major prophets, just like Isaiah. And Jeremiah is prophesying a couple of decades before and then through the Babylonian attack and conquest things that we read about when we were reading in second Kings and second Chronicles. Jeremiah is a prophetic voice during this time. And as with many prophetic voices and prophetic books that are in the Bible, we have these oracles from God. And so, like with Isaiah, we’re jumping around a lot because the things that he had to say were aimed in different directions at different times. So, it’s not like a linear narrative story - like this happened and then this happened and then this happened and then this happened. Jeremiah is a book of prophecy so it’s like this as well, but it’s intriguing because we…we get a glimpse more into Jeremiah’s mindset and he does not want to be doing some of the things that he’s invited to do, especially at the time that he’s invited to do them. And, so, there is an authenticity to Jeremiah that we get to understand. And we need to see the frustration of a prophet who thinks nobody’s listening and he just wants to be released from the mission. And it wasn’t just making it up. Israel had turned her back on God and for more than two decades Jeremiah was one of the only, if not the only voice of warning the people that the direction they were going in wasn’t going to end anywhere good. They were on the wrong path going in the wrong direction. And this often led Jeremiah to be in conflict with the people. This is a time where there is reasonable prosperity. It doesn’t look like there’s impending doom. And, so, if…you know, if business is good, but there is a doomsayer then the doomsayer probably isn’t good for business. The business people want people to spend their money, right, not be freaked out that something bad is about to happen. And this went up the chain until powerful enough people were just fed up with Jeremiah and all of his interference. And, so, we’ll watch that even though Jeremiah has frustration and even a tremendous amount of sadness his loyalty to God remains true. And as it turns out he was speaking from the Lord and telling the people the truth. Babylon did invade the land in 587 BC. Jerusalem, the holy city, fell. The palace of God that Solomon had made was leveled, completely destroyed. And through it all, Jeremiah is there giving words from the Lord to instruct the people how to navigate what is happening and they’re not listening. So, with that we begin one of the most intriguing prophet in the Bible. Jeremiah chapter 1 verse 1 through 2 verse 30 today.

Commentary:

Okay. So, we’ve already spent some time talking about Jeremiah, this new prophetic book that we are moving into. So, I don’t want to spend a bunch of time right now, but we’ve closed the letter to the Philippians today as well. And Philippians ends with some very, very well worn versus that are very often quoted and probably a good portion of us know them. We’ve all probably heard them but probably know them by heart. “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding”, which we would maybe more popularly know, “which passes all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” And we stand on that. And when somebody in our sphere of influence is going through something oftentimes, we’ll say that “the peace of God which passes all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” as a way of saying it’s gonna be okay. And there’s literally nothing wrong with encouraging each other in this way. It’s just that that’s not all of it. That’s not all that was being said here. Like there’s a precursor and sort of post reflection on this verse that sits sort of in the middle of an idea or a thought. And, so, when we just lift out, “and the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” we’re missing most of it. And we can use that verse as a way of encouragement but it’s not some sort of incantation. Like just because we say it doesn’t mean the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard our hearts and minds just because we quote this verse. Our participation is actually required. And, so, let’s just look at this again in context so that we see that we have a role to play. And, so, I’m quoting from Paul. “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again rejoice.” Okay, so there’s part one, “rejoice in the Lord always.” Then Paul goes on, “let your gentleness be evident to all.” That’s part two. “Be aware that the Lord is near.” That’s part three. “Do not to be anxious about anything.” Part four. “In every situation, by prayer and petition with Thanksgiving present your requests to God.” That’s part five. There are five things before we get to, “and the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds.” So, yes, the peace of God that is beyond our understanding that passes our understanding, will guard our hearts and minds in Jesus. We have to collaborate in activating that. Rejoice, be gentle, be aware of the Lord’s presence, do not be anxious about anything, and in every situation have a thankful heart, be in conversation with God, let Him know what’s going on, present your requests to God and the peace of God which passes all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds. Let’s just remember we have to participate on our faith journey. And immediately following that, as Paul is closing this letter, we are told how to aim our hearts and minds. “Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, if anything is excellent or praiseworthy think about those things.” So, indeed, life can be chaos and we can’t think clear, and we can’t see clear sometimes. And indeed, the presence of the Holy Spirit when we become aware of it does calm us down, does indeed bring peace. But to cultivate a life where we are living at peace in shalom, peace that passes all understanding that guards us, our heart and our mind then we have to actively incubate these things. An attitude of rejoicing, gentleness, awareness of God’s presence, not being anxious about anything but in everything, praying with Thanksgiving, thinking about what is truly noble and right and pure and lovely, and admirable and excellent, and praiseworthy. It’s like not that much of a leap to simply understand, yeah, I guess if that…if that’s what I’m focusing on, if that’s what I’m seeking and looking for and that’s what I’m observing in this world and in my life, then yes, that would change things considerably based on the sort of things that I obsess about all of the time. So, let’s understand as Paul is closing Philippians and we are closing Philippians and preparing to move forward tomorrow, it’s all available to us. It’s not gonna just fall in our lap’s as if we could take it or leave it as if you don’t even care about the gifts that are being bestowed. We have to interact. We have to collaborate. And when we do God is putting back together what is broken in us and in the world because shalom, the way things are supposed to be is what God is doing. And we get the opportunity to collaborate with that. May we do that, brothers, and sisters. May we begin to realize there really is a better way to be. We can follow the culture. We can obsess about whatever we want to obsess about or numb ourselves in whatever way we want to numb ourselves or we can press into what Paul is saying, understanding that these postures lead somewhere, and that place is good.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word and another day. A lot of transition. Transitioning weeks, months, books, and in it all You continue to speak to us and transform us and we are grateful and we need Your help with this. We confess, we’re not rejoicing in You all the time. We’re not being gentle enough to be evident to all all the time. We’re not aware that You are near all the time. Sometimes we can’t figure out where You went, and we certainly can’t claim that we’re anxious about nothing, because we’re anxious about lots of things. And we confess that in every situation we’re not thankful and prayerful. And, so, we realize that we have some work to do in self-discipline, in shifting our orientation, understanding that it is all available. Peace that passes understanding is available but we have to surrender to You and collaborate with You in cultivating what it takes to move in that direction. So, come Holy Spirit into this. May we walk a new path, the path where peace does pass on understanding and guards us we pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

The Daily Audio Bible Reading for Tuesday October 4, 2022 (NIV)

Jeremiah 2:31-4:18

31 “You of this generation, consider the word of the Lord:

“Have I been a desert to Israel
or a land of great darkness?(A)
Why do my people say, ‘We are free to roam;
we will come to you no more’?(B)
32 Does a young woman forget her jewelry,
a bride her wedding ornaments?
Yet my people have forgotten(C) me,
days without number.
33 How skilled you are at pursuing(D) love!
Even the worst of women can learn from your ways.
34 On your clothes is found
the lifeblood(E) of the innocent poor,
though you did not catch them breaking in.(F)
Yet in spite of all this
35 you say, ‘I am innocent;(G)
he is not angry with me.’
But I will pass judgment(H) on you
because you say, ‘I have not sinned.’(I)
36 Why do you go about so much,
changing(J) your ways?
You will be disappointed by Egypt(K)
as you were by Assyria.
37 You will also leave that place
with your hands on your head,(L)
for the Lord has rejected those you trust;
you will not be helped(M) by them.

3 “If a man divorces(N) his wife
and she leaves him and marries another man,
should he return to her again?
Would not the land be completely defiled?(O)
But you have lived as a prostitute with many lovers(P)—
would you now return to me?”(Q)
declares the Lord.
2 “Look up to the barren heights(R) and see.
Is there any place where you have not been ravished?
By the roadside(S) you sat waiting for lovers,
sat like a nomad in the desert.
You have defiled the land(T)
with your prostitution(U) and wickedness.
3 Therefore the showers have been withheld,(V)
and no spring rains(W) have fallen.
Yet you have the brazen(X) look of a prostitute;
you refuse to blush with shame.(Y)
4 Have you not just called to me:
‘My Father,(Z) my friend from my youth,(AA)
5 will you always be angry?(AB)
Will your wrath continue forever?’
This is how you talk,
but you do all the evil you can.”

Unfaithful Israel

6 During the reign of King Josiah,(AC) the Lord said to me, “Have you seen what faithless(AD) Israel has done? She has gone up on every high hill and under every spreading tree(AE) and has committed adultery(AF) there. 7 I thought that after she had done all this she would return to me but she did not, and her unfaithful sister(AG) Judah saw it.(AH) 8 I gave faithless Israel(AI) her certificate of divorce(AJ) and sent her away because of all her adulteries. Yet I saw that her unfaithful sister Judah had no fear;(AK) she also went out and committed adultery. 9 Because Israel’s immorality mattered so little to her, she defiled the land(AL) and committed adultery(AM) with stone(AN) and wood.(AO) 10 In spite of all this, her unfaithful sister Judah did not return(AP) to me with all her heart, but only in pretense,(AQ)” declares the Lord.(AR)

11 The Lord said to me, “Faithless Israel is more righteous(AS) than unfaithful(AT) Judah.(AU) 12 Go, proclaim this message toward the north:(AV)

“‘Return,(AW) faithless(AX) Israel,’ declares the Lord,
‘I will frown on you no longer,
for I am faithful,’(AY) declares the Lord,
‘I will not be angry(AZ) forever.
13 Only acknowledge(BA) your guilt—
you have rebelled against the Lord your God,
you have scattered your favors to foreign gods(BB)
under every spreading tree,(BC)
and have not obeyed(BD) me,’”
declares the Lord.

14 “Return,(BE) faithless people,” declares the Lord, “for I am your husband.(BF) I will choose you—one from a town and two from a clan—and bring you to Zion. 15 Then I will give you shepherds(BG) after my own heart,(BH) who will lead you with knowledge and understanding. 16 In those days, when your numbers have increased greatly in the land,” declares the Lord, “people will no longer say, ‘The ark(BI) of the covenant of the Lord.’ It will never enter their minds or be remembered;(BJ) it will not be missed, nor will another one be made. 17 At that time they will call Jerusalem The Throne(BK) of the Lord, and all nations(BL) will gather in Jerusalem to honor(BM) the name of the Lord. No longer will they follow the stubbornness of their evil hearts.(BN) 18 In those days the people of Judah will join the people of Israel,(BO) and together(BP) they will come from a northern(BQ) land to the land(BR) I gave your ancestors as an inheritance.

19 “I myself said,

“‘How gladly would I treat you like my children
and give you a pleasant land,(BS)
the most beautiful inheritance(BT) of any nation.’
I thought you would call me ‘Father’(BU)
and not turn away from following me.
20 But like a woman unfaithful to her husband,
so you, Israel, have been unfaithful(BV) to me,”
declares the Lord.

21 A cry is heard on the barren heights,(BW)
the weeping(BX) and pleading of the people of Israel,
because they have perverted their ways
and have forgotten(BY) the Lord their God.

22 “Return,(BZ) faithless people;
I will cure(CA) you of backsliding.”(CB)

“Yes, we will come to you,
for you are the Lord our God.
23 Surely the idolatrous commotion on the hills(CC)
and mountains is a deception;
surely in the Lord our God
is the salvation(CD) of Israel.
24 From our youth shameful(CE) gods have consumed
the fruits of our ancestors’ labor—
their flocks and herds,
their sons and daughters.
25 Let us lie down in our shame,(CF)
and let our disgrace cover us.
We have sinned(CG) against the Lord our God,
both we and our ancestors;(CH)
from our youth(CI) till this day
we have not obeyed(CJ) the Lord our God.”

4 “If you, Israel, will return,(CK)
then return to me,”
declares the Lord.
“If you put your detestable idols(CL) out of my sight
and no longer go astray,
2 and if in a truthful, just and righteous way
you swear,(CM) ‘As surely as the Lord lives,’(CN)
then the nations will invoke blessings(CO) by him
and in him they will boast.(CP)”

3 This is what the Lord says to the people of Judah and to Jerusalem:

“Break up your unplowed ground(CQ)
and do not sow among thorns.(CR)
4 Circumcise yourselves to the Lord,
circumcise your hearts,(CS)
you people of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem,
or my wrath(CT) will flare up and burn like fire(CU)
because of the evil(CV) you have done—
burn with no one to quench(CW) it.

Disaster From the North

5 “Announce in Judah and proclaim(CX) in Jerusalem and say:
‘Sound the trumpet(CY) throughout the land!’
Cry aloud and say:
‘Gather together!
Let us flee to the fortified cities!’(CZ)
6 Raise the signal(DA) to go to Zion!
Flee for safety without delay!
For I am bringing disaster(DB) from the north,(DC)
even terrible destruction.”

7 A lion(DD) has come out of his lair;(DE)
a destroyer(DF) of nations has set out.
He has left his place
to lay waste(DG) your land.
Your towns will lie in ruins(DH)
without inhabitant.
8 So put on sackcloth,(DI)
lament(DJ) and wail,
for the fierce anger(DK) of the Lord
has not turned away from us.

9 “In that day,” declares the Lord,
“the king and the officials will lose heart,(DL)
the priests will be horrified,
and the prophets will be appalled.”(DM)

10 Then I said, “Alas, Sovereign Lord! How completely you have deceived(DN) this people and Jerusalem by saying, ‘You will have peace,’(DO) when the sword is at our throats!”

11 At that time this people and Jerusalem will be told, “A scorching wind(DP) from the barren heights in the desert blows toward my people, but not to winnow or cleanse; 12 a wind(DQ) too strong for that comes from me. Now I pronounce my judgments(DR) against them.”

13 Look! He advances like the clouds,(DS)
his chariots(DT) come like a whirlwind,(DU)
his horses(DV) are swifter than eagles.(DW)
Woe to us! We are ruined!(DX)
14 Jerusalem, wash(DY) the evil from your heart and be saved.(DZ)
How long(EA) will you harbor wicked thoughts?
15 A voice is announcing from Dan,(EB)
proclaiming disaster from the hills of Ephraim.(EC)
16 “Tell this to the nations,
proclaim concerning Jerusalem:
‘A besieging army is coming from a distant land,(ED)
raising a war cry(EE) against the cities of Judah.(EF)
17 They surround(EG) her like men guarding a field,
because she has rebelled(EH) against me,’”
declares the Lord.
18 “Your own conduct and actions(EI)
have brought this on you.(EJ)
This is your punishment.
How bitter(EK) it is!
How it pierces to the heart!”

Colossians 1:1-17

1 Paul, an apostle(A) of Christ Jesus by the will of God,(B) and Timothy(C) our brother,

2 To God’s holy people in Colossae, the faithful brothers and sisters[a] in Christ:

Grace(D) and peace to you from God our Father.[b](E)

Thanksgiving and Prayer

3 We always thank God,(F) the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, 4 because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love(G) you have for all God’s people(H)— 5 the faith and love that spring from the hope(I) stored up for you in heaven(J) and about which you have already heard in the true message(K) of the gospel 6 that has come to you. In the same way, the gospel is bearing fruit(L) and growing throughout the whole world(M)—just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and truly understood God’s grace. 7 You learned it from Epaphras,(N) our dear fellow servant,[c] who is a faithful minister(O) of Christ on our[d] behalf, 8 and who also told us of your love in the Spirit.(P)

9 For this reason, since the day we heard about you,(Q) we have not stopped praying for you.(R) We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will(S) through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives,[e](T) 10 so that you may live a life worthy(U) of the Lord and please him(V) in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,(W) 11 being strengthened with all power(X) according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience,(Y) 12 and giving joyful thanks to the Father,(Z) who has qualified you[f] to share in the inheritance(AA) of his holy people in the kingdom of light.(AB) 13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness(AC) and brought us into the kingdom(AD) of the Son he loves,(AE) 14 in whom we have redemption,(AF) the forgiveness of sins.(AG)

The Supremacy of the Son of God

15 The Son is the image(AH) of the invisible God,(AI) the firstborn(AJ) over all creation. 16 For in him all things were created:(AK) things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities;(AL) all things have been created through him and for him.(AM) 17 He is before all things,(AN) and in him all things hold together.

Psalm 76[a]

For the director of music. With stringed instruments. A psalm of Asaph. A song.

1 God is renowned in Judah;
in Israel his name is great.(A)
2 His tent is in Salem,(B)
his dwelling place in Zion.(C)
3 There he broke the flashing arrows,(D)
the shields and the swords, the weapons of war.[b](E)

4 You are radiant with light,(F)
more majestic than mountains rich with game.
5 The valiant(G) lie plundered,
they sleep their last sleep;(H)
not one of the warriors
can lift his hands.
6 At your rebuke,(I) God of Jacob,
both horse and chariot(J) lie still.

7 It is you alone who are to be feared.(K)
Who can stand(L) before you when you are angry?(M)
8 From heaven you pronounced judgment,
and the land feared(N) and was quiet—
9 when you, God, rose up to judge,(O)
to save all the afflicted(P) of the land.
10 Surely your wrath against mankind brings you praise,(Q)
and the survivors of your wrath are restrained.[c]

11 Make vows to the Lord your God and fulfill them;(R)
let all the neighboring lands
bring gifts(S) to the One to be feared.
12 He breaks the spirit of rulers;
he is feared by the kings of the earth.

21 Fear the Lord and the king,(A) my son,
and do not join with rebellious officials,
22 for those two will send sudden destruction(B) on them,
and who knows what calamities they can bring?

Jeremiah 1:1-2:30

1 The words of Jeremiah son of Hilkiah, one of the priests at Anathoth(A) in the territory of Benjamin. 2 The word of the Lord came(B) to him in the thirteenth year of the reign of Josiah(C) son of Amon king of Judah, 3 and through the reign of Jehoiakim(D) son of Josiah king of Judah, down to the fifth month of the eleventh year of Zedekiah(E) son of Josiah king of Judah, when the people of Jerusalem went into exile.(F)

The Call of Jeremiah

4 The word of the Lord came to me, saying,

5 “Before I formed you in the womb(G) I knew[a](H) you,
before you were born(I) I set you apart;(J)
I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.(K)”

6 “Alas, Sovereign Lord,” I said, “I do not know how to speak;(L) I am too young.”(M)

7 But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am too young.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. 8 Do not be afraid(N) of them, for I am with you(O) and will rescue(P) you,” declares the Lord.(Q)

9 Then the Lord reached out his hand and touched(R) my mouth and said to me, “I have put my words in your mouth.(S) 10 See, today I appoint you over nations(T) and kingdoms to uproot(U) and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.”(V)

11 The word of the Lord came to me: “What do you see, Jeremiah?”(W)

“I see the branch of an almond tree,” I replied.

12 The Lord said to me, “You have seen correctly, for I am watching[b](X) to see that my word is fulfilled.”

13 The word of the Lord came to me again: “What do you see?”(Y)

“I see a pot that is boiling,” I answered. “It is tilting toward us from the north.”

14 The Lord said to me, “From the north(Z) disaster will be poured out on all who live in the land. 15 I am about to summon all the peoples of the northern kingdoms,” declares the Lord.

“Their kings will come and set up their thrones
in the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem;
they will come against all her surrounding walls
and against all the towns of Judah.(AA)
16 I will pronounce my judgments(AB) on my people
because of their wickedness(AC) in forsaking me,(AD)
in burning incense to other gods(AE)
and in worshiping(AF) what their hands have made.(AG)

17 “Get yourself ready! Stand up and say(AH) to them whatever I command you. Do not be terrified(AI) by them, or I will terrify you before them. 18 Today I have made you(AJ) a fortified city, an iron pillar and a bronze wall to stand against the whole land—against the kings of Judah, its officials, its priests and the people of the land. 19 They will fight against you but will not overcome(AK) you, for I am with you(AL) and will rescue(AM) you,” declares the Lord.

Israel Forsakes God

2 The word(AN) of the Lord came to me: 2 “Go and proclaim in the hearing of Jerusalem:

“This is what the Lord says:

“‘I remember the devotion of your youth,(AO)
how as a bride you loved me
and followed me through the wilderness,(AP)
through a land not sown.
3 Israel was holy(AQ) to the Lord,(AR)
the firstfruits(AS) of his harvest;
all who devoured(AT) her were held guilty,(AU)
and disaster overtook them,’”
declares the Lord.

4 Hear the word of the Lord, you descendants of Jacob,
all you clans of Israel.

5 This is what the Lord says:

“What fault did your ancestors find in me,
that they strayed so far from me?
They followed worthless idols(AV)
and became worthless(AW) themselves.
6 They did not ask, ‘Where is the Lord,
who brought us up out of Egypt(AX)
and led us through the barren wilderness,
through a land of deserts(AY) and ravines,(AZ)
a land of drought and utter darkness,
a land where no one travels(BA) and no one lives?’
7 I brought you into a fertile land
to eat its fruit and rich produce.(BB)
But you came and defiled my land
and made my inheritance detestable.(BC)
8 The priests did not ask,
‘Where is the Lord?’
Those who deal with the law did not know me;(BD)
the leaders(BE) rebelled against me.
The prophets prophesied by Baal,(BF)
following worthless idols.(BG)

9 “Therefore I bring charges(BH) against you again,”
declares the Lord.
“And I will bring charges against your children’s children.
10 Cross over to the coasts of Cyprus(BI) and look,
send to Kedar[c](BJ) and observe closely;
see if there has ever been anything like this:
11 Has a nation ever changed its gods?
(Yet they are not gods(BK) at all.)
But my people have exchanged their glorious(BL) God
for worthless idols.
12 Be appalled at this, you heavens,
and shudder with great horror,”
declares the Lord.
13 “My people have committed two sins:
They have forsaken(BM) me,
the spring of living water,(BN)
and have dug their own cisterns,
broken cisterns that cannot hold water.
14 Is Israel a servant, a slave(BO) by birth?
Why then has he become plunder?
15 Lions(BP) have roared;
they have growled at him.
They have laid waste(BQ) his land;
his towns are burned(BR) and deserted.(BS)
16 Also, the men of Memphis(BT) and Tahpanhes(BU)
have cracked your skull.
17 Have you not brought this on yourselves(BV)
by forsaking(BW) the Lord your God
when he led you in the way?
18 Now why go to Egypt(BX)
to drink water from the Nile[d]?(BY)
And why go to Assyria(BZ)
to drink water from the Euphrates?(CA)
19 Your wickedness will punish you;
your backsliding(CB) will rebuke(CC) you.
Consider then and realize
how evil and bitter(CD) it is for you
when you forsake(CE) the Lord your God
and have no awe(CF) of me,”
declares the Lord, the Lord Almighty.

20 “Long ago you broke off your yoke(CG)
and tore off your bonds;(CH)
you said, ‘I will not serve you!’(CI)
Indeed, on every high hill(CJ)
and under every spreading tree(CK)
you lay down as a prostitute.(CL)
21 I had planted(CM) you like a choice vine(CN)
of sound and reliable stock.
How then did you turn against me
into a corrupt,(CO) wild vine?
22 Although you wash(CP) yourself with soap(CQ)
and use an abundance of cleansing powder,
the stain of your guilt is still before me,”
declares the Sovereign Lord.(CR)
23 “How can you say, ‘I am not defiled;(CS)
I have not run after the Baals’?(CT)
See how you behaved in the valley;(CU)
consider what you have done.
You are a swift she-camel
running(CV) here and there,
24 a wild donkey(CW) accustomed to the desert,(CX)
sniffing the wind in her craving—
in her heat who can restrain her?
Any males that pursue her need not tire themselves;
at mating time they will find her.
25 Do not run until your feet are bare
and your throat is dry.
But you said, ‘It’s no use!(CY)
I love foreign gods,(CZ)
and I must go after them.’(DA)

26 “As a thief is disgraced(DB) when he is caught,
so the people of Israel are disgraced—
they, their kings and their officials,
their priests(DC) and their prophets.(DD)
27 They say to wood,(DE) ‘You are my father,’
and to stone,(DF) ‘You gave me birth.’
They have turned their backs(DG) to me
and not their faces;(DH)
yet when they are in trouble,(DI) they say,
‘Come and save(DJ) us!’
28 Where then are the gods(DK) you made for yourselves?
Let them come if they can save you
when you are in trouble!(DL)
For you, Judah, have as many gods
as you have towns.(DM)

29 “Why do you bring charges against me?
You have all(DN) rebelled against me,”
declares the Lord.
30 “In vain I punished your people;
they did not respond to correction.(DO)
Your sword has devoured your prophets(DP)
like a ravenous lion.

Philippians 4

Closing Appeal for Steadfastness and Unity

4 Therefore, my brothers and sisters, you whom I love and long for,(A) my joy and crown, stand firm(B) in the Lord in this way, dear friends!

2 I plead with Euodia and I plead with Syntyche to be of the same mind(C) in the Lord. 3 Yes, and I ask you, my true companion, help these women since they have contended at my side in the cause of the gospel, along with Clement and the rest of my co-workers,(D) whose names are in the book of life.(E)

Final Exhortations

4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!(F) 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.(G) 6 Do not be anxious about anything,(H) but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.(I) 7 And the peace of God,(J) which transcends all understanding,(K) will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

10 I rejoiced greatly in the Lord that at last you renewed your concern for me.(N) Indeed, you were concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it. 11 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content(O) whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. 1 We praise you, God,
we praise you, for your Name is near;(A)
people tell of your wonderful deeds.(B)

2 You say, “I choose the appointed time;(C)
it is I who judge with equity.(D)

Today is October 2nd, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I’m Brian and it is great to be here with you as we greet a brand-new week. I guess wow, we are greeting a brand-new month. So, all things are new here around the Global Campfire. So, it’s an exciting time, as we reset, and we launch into this month and continue our journey forward. And our foreword journey will lead us back into the book of Isaiah, for the last time actually, this year. We will conclude the book of Isaiah today. And this week we will read from the New International Version, so here we go, Isaiah chapter 66.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word, and we thank You for making all things new and that we have a direct reminder of that on this day, as we begin a brand-new week. And as we continue to begin a brand-new month and as we begin a brand-new quarter of the year, thank You for your faithfulness to us, even when we’ve been all over the place, You have been steadfast, thank You. You are our anchor. Our hope is in You and we welcome You with open hands and open hearts, as we navigate through the days of this month, asking, Holy Spirit, that You would continually remind us to be aware of what we’re doing and aware of Your presence in all things. May we see You at work, not only in our own lives, but in the world around us. And may we see that we have a place that we are Your hands and feet and that where we go, You are, and how we touch, can be a touch from You. Come, Holy Spirit, into all of this we pray, in the name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.

Prayer:

Good morning Daily Audio Bible family, this Jude in Maryland. I’m calling in for prayer request please, please help me pray to God to shake off this spirit of apathetic procrastination. I have so much to do, and I have some time to do it in. Although is not a lot of time but I have some time. But every time I try to turn to do what I’m supposed to, I just seem to laze about or put it off and I’m not getting anything done. And it’s holding me back from things that have wanted to do for years, for life. Big changes, big things and I just have no motivation, no energy, no discipline to get it done. So, please, towards my career, towards my life, towards home, everything. It’s even costing me money and it’s costing me opportunities, but I seem to have no ability to get up and do the things that I need to do, that are in front of me to do. That God has even presented me with an opportunity to do. Just seem to be in this funk and it’s not working. So, please family, pray with me that this…this spirit that is weighing me down like a wet blanket will lift from me, go from me and I’ll have the motivation to do the things that I’m supposed to do and that I’m responsible for doing. Good morning, DAB, this is Laura in San Diego. I am calling to pray for Solest. Lord God, I just wanna lift up my sister Solest. She reached out for prayer, she’s fairly new to her faith and has a made a change in her life. And Lord, she is struggling to be all alone and wanting to see her kids and coming from a situation that’s been abusive. I just, I pray for Your grace and Your peace to fill her mind and heart, in Christ Jesus. I pray for Your Holy Spirit, to lift up her spirit. I pray Lord, that she would reach out to supportive people and be able to participate in the community of God, in a way that supports her and that doesn’t leave her alone. And I pray, for the strained relationships and her, and I just pray that she’d have a relationship with her kids in a positive way. And that she would learn those new paths and ways of talking and interacting. To always positive things to them and Lord, to let go of the things that people in abusive situations in households learn of hurting each other. Help her Lord, help her to let go of those things and when those things come at her, let them just slide off the armor of God and hit the floor and not penetrate her heart. And so, I lift up my sister. I know Lord, You’re leading her and I pray that she would feel Your presence so close. In Jesus name.

This is Diane Olive Brown and Jeff from Newburg, Indiana. And it is September 28th, Tuesday, 2022 about 610am central time. And this reading from the 28th has touched my heart so. Where Brian talks about a father, a good father, a good husband and Jesus representing all of us in all of our messes. And the last caller spoke of how she’s a new Christian and living in an abusive home with an abusive husband and people are throwing what she did into her face. And she’s sorry for what she did and she feels so alone. Honey, I’m gonna be praying for you every single day. You’re not alone. Jesus died for you, forgive yourself. He loves you, he never did anything wrong except love you and absorb all the things you did wrong. Go to Him, trust in Him, rest in Him, rest your head upon his breast and let Him heal you with His special balm of Gilead. Let it go warmly over your head and heal and restore you. But you have to get out of an abusive relationship. Find freedom. Get away from these people that keep condemning you.

Good morning DABers, this is John Opar and I’m calling in, I’m actually in Nairobi this morning. On my way, traveling to Nigeria. But I heard a young man, he didn’t way what his name. But he did mention that he has come to the conclusion that he’s not a Christian. And I’ve heard some other people struggling with their faith in the same way. I’m basically calling in to let these people, especially this young man that I’m referring to, that all God wants them to do at this time is to basically let Him love them. Let Him, love you. Stop struggling, stop trying to be something. Just allow Him to love you. That’s all that is required. God bless you. Bye Bye.

Hey, this is Pure Heart from Tennessee. And I wanted to pray for Connie from Guatemala, Washington. She just got the diagnoses of having pancreatic cancer. Father God, I pray for Connie right now. Lord, a hard diagnosis or difficult when we receive them. But Lord, I pray that You would give her peace that passes all understanding. I pray that You would let her feel that You are near, that Your Spirit would just overtake her and the regret and fear that she’s had about leaving her family would be dismissed because You are the one that has the final say over our lives. Father God, I thank You that You’ll bless her children to be part of Your comfort. And her husband, give him all exceedingly abundantly that You’re able to do, more than what we could ask or think. Jehovah just bless You. I know that You’re the one that causes healing. And like the woman with the issue of blood, Father God, I stand with Connie and we reach out and touch the hem of Your garment. And I say be whole, in Jesus name. Connie, you just stay encouraged and don’t let man’s word be your final thoughts. In Jesus name.

I’m gonna have to talk fast and there’s more that I want to say. But I will get into this message everything that I can. I wanna give you a scripture, Romans 12:4-6: But at the end of that, the amazing part that sticks out to me is, it says: each member belongs to all others. I ran from the DAB groups, deleted myself from some of the groups that I was in. The last post that I listened to on the DAB was June 17th. I have been going through some of the most hellish circumstances for months. Many huge problems with finances, home, family, friends, physical pain, disappointment and personal unanswered prayers. I have experienced bitterness, anger, frustration, resentment with myself, God, people, circumstances. I’ve been knocked off my feet. Picture a soldier in an open battlefield with the enemy closing in on all sides. You try to fight back but before you can defeat one blow, here comes one from behind that you couldn’t even see. And while you’re knocked down, several more arrows strike at the same time. Suffering from what seems to be like no hope, that anything could ever stop this mess, in my bloody, bruised and broken place, I feel like every ounce of my faith had run out. I want to escape and hide. In the war of Satan trying to get me to run from God, there are voices in the distance, all around, high up on the hills, with their battle cry, yelling out for me. Finally, for me. Who are they? It’s the DAB family church body. Fighting for me with their prayers up to God. I am in the tug of war with them trying to pull me back from the grips of Satan. Their encouraging words and private messages to me with their scripture shared, also in text messages, asking me to come back. We need you; we are here for you. It is amazing for that, and I want to thank each and all of the people who reached out to me and haven’t given up on me.

Good morning DABers, this is John Opar and I’m calling in, I’m actually in Nairobi this morning. On my way, traveling to Nigeria. But I heard a young man, he didn’t way what his name. But he did mention that he has come to the conclusion that he’s not a Christian. And I’ve heard some other people struggling with their faith in the same way. I’m basically calling in to let these people, especially this young man that I’m referring to, that all God wants them to do at this time is to basically let Him love them. Let Him, love you. Stop struggling, stop trying to be something. Just allow Him to love you. That’s all that is required. God bless you. Bye Bye.

Hey, this is Pure Heart from Tennessee. And I wanted to pray for Connie from Guatemala, Washington. She just got the diagnoses of having pancreatic cancer. Father God, I pray for Connie right now. Lord, a hard diagnosis or difficult when we receive them. But Lord, I pray that You would give her peace that passes all understanding. I pray that You would let her feel that You are near, that Your Spirit would just overtake her and the regret and fear that she’s had about leaving her family would be dismissed because You are the one that has the final say over our lives. Father God, I thank You that You’ll bless her children to be part of Your comfort. And her husband, give him all exceedingly abundantly that You’re able to do, more than what we could ask or think. Jehovah just bless You. I know that You’re the one that causes healing. And like the woman with the issue of blood, Father God, I stand with Connie and we reach out and touch the hem of Your garment. And I say be whole, in Jesus name. Connie, you just stay encouraged and don’t let man’s word be your final thoughts. In Jesus name.

I’m gonna have to talk fast and there’s more that I want to say. But I will get into this message everything that I can. I wanna give you a scripture, Romans 12:4-6: But at the end of that, the amazing part that sticks out to me is, it says: each member belongs to all others. I ran from the DAB groups, deleted myself from some of the groups that I was in. The last post that I listened to on the DAB was June 17th. I have been going through some of the most hellish circumstances for months. Many huge problems with finances, home, family, friends, physical pain, disappointment and personal unanswered prayers. I have experienced bitterness, anger, frustration, resentment with myself, God, people, circumstances. I’ve been knocked off my feet. Picture a soldier in an open battlefield with the enemy closing in on all sides. You try to fight back but before you can defeat one blow, here comes one from behind that you couldn’t even see. And while you’re knocked down, several more arrows strike at the same time. Suffering from what seems to be like no hope, that anything could ever stop this mess, in my bloody, bruised and broken place, I feel like every ounce of my faith had run out. I want to escape and hide. In the war of Satan trying to get me to run from God, there are voices in the distance, all around, high up on the hills, with their battle cry, yelling out for me. Finally, for me. Who are they? It’s the DAB family church body. Fighting for me with their prayers up to God. I am in the tug of war with them trying to pull me back from the grips of Satan. Their encouraging words and private messages to me with their scripture shared, also in text messages, asking me to come back. We need you; we are here for you. It is amazing for that, and I want to thank each and all of the people who reached out to me and haven’t given up on me.

Judgment and Hope

66 This is what the Lord says:

“Heaven is my throne,(A)
and the earth is my footstool.(B)
Where is the house(C) you will build for me?
Where will my resting place be?
2 Has not my hand made all these things,(D)
and so they came into being?”
declares the Lord.

“These are the ones I look on with favor:
those who are humble and contrite in spirit,(E)
and who tremble at my word.(F)
3 But whoever sacrifices a bull(G)
is like one who kills a person,
and whoever offers a lamb
is like one who breaks a dog’s neck;
whoever makes a grain offering
is like one who presents pig’s(H) blood,
and whoever burns memorial incense(I)
is like one who worships an idol.
They have chosen their own ways,(J)
and they delight in their abominations;(K)
4 so I also will choose harsh treatment for them
and will bring on them what they dread.(L)
For when I called, no one answered,(M)
when I spoke, no one listened.
They did evil(N) in my sight
and chose what displeases me.”(O)

5 Hear the word of the Lord,
you who tremble at his word:(P)
“Your own people who hate(Q) you,
and exclude you because of my name, have said,

before the pains come upon her,

or a nation be brought forth in a moment?
Yet no sooner is Zion in labor

and not give delivery?” says the Lord.
“Do I close up the womb
when I bring to delivery?” says your God.
10 “Rejoice(AA) with Jerusalem and be glad for her,

rejoice greatly with her,
all you who mourn(AC) over her.
11 For you will nurse(AD) and be satisfied
at her comforting breasts;(AE)
you will drink deeply
and delight in her overflowing abundance.”(AF)

12 For this is what the Lord says:

“I will extend peace(AG) to her like a river,(AH)
and the wealth(AI) of nations like a flooding stream;
you will nurse and be carried(AJ) on her arm
and dandled on her knees.
13 As a mother comforts her child,(AK)
so will I comfort(AL) you;
and you will be comforted over Jerusalem.”

14 When you see this, your heart will rejoice(AM)
and you will flourish(AN) like grass;
the hand(AO) of the Lord will be made known to his servants,(AP)
but his fury(AQ) will be shown to his foes.
15 See, the Lord is coming with fire,(AR)
and his chariots(AS) are like a whirlwind;(AT)
he will bring down his anger with fury,
and his rebuke(AU) with flames of fire.

the Lord will execute judgment(AX) on all people,
and many will be those slain(AY) by the Lord.

17 “Those who consecrate and purify themselves to go into the gardens,(AZ) following one who is among those who eat the flesh of pigs,(BA) rats(BB) and other unclean things—they will meet their end(BC) together with the one they follow,” declares the Lord.

18 “And I, because of what they have planned and done,(BD) am about to come[a] and gather the people of all nations(BE) and languages, and they will come and see my glory.(BF)

19 “I will set a sign(BG) among them, and I will send some of those who survive(BH) to the nations—to Tarshish,(BI) to the Libyans[b] and Lydians(BJ) (famous as archers), to Tubal(BK) and Greece,(BL) and to the distant islands(BM) that have not heard of my fame or seen my glory.(BN) They will proclaim my glory among the nations. 20 And they will bring(BO) all your people, from all the nations, to my holy mountain(BP) in Jerusalem as an offering to the Lord—on horses, in chariots and wagons, and on mules and camels,”(BQ) says the Lord. “They will bring them, as the Israelites bring their grain offerings, to the temple of the Lord in ceremonially clean vessels.(BR) 21 And I will select some of them also to be priests(BS) and Levites,” says the Lord.

22 “As the new heavens and the new earth(BT) that I make will endure before me,” declares the Lord, “so will your name and descendants endure.(BU) 23 From one New Moon to another and from one Sabbath(BV) to another, all mankind will come and bow down(BW) before me,” says the Lord. 24 “And they will go out and look on the dead bodies(BX) of those who rebelled(BY) against me; the worms(BZ) that eat them will not die, the fire that burns them will not be quenched,(CA) and they will be loathsome to all mankind.”

Philippians 3:4-21

4 though I myself have reasons for such confidence.(A)

If someone else thinks they have reasons to put confidence in the flesh, I have more: 5 circumcised(B) on the eighth day, of the people of Israel,(C) of the tribe of Benjamin,(D) a Hebrew of Hebrews; in regard to the law, a Pharisee;(E) 6 as for zeal,(F) persecuting the church;(G) as for righteousness based on the law,(H) faultless.

7 But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss(I) for the sake of Christ. 8 What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing(J) Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ(K) 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law,(L) but that which is through faith in[a] Christ—the righteousness(M) that comes from God on the basis of faith.(N) 10 I want to know(O) Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings,(P) becoming like him in his death,(Q) 11 and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection(R) from the dead.

12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal,(S) but I press on to take hold(T) of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.(U) 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind(V) and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on(W) toward the goal to win the prize(X) for which God has called(Y) me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Following Paul’s Example

15 All of us, then, who are mature(Z) should take such a view of things.(AA) And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you.(AB) 16 Only let us live up to what we have already attained.

17 Join together in following my example,(AC) brothers and sisters, and just as you have us as a model, keep your eyes on those who live as we do.(AD) 18 For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears,(AE) many live as enemies of the cross of Christ.(AF) 19 Their destiny(AG) is destruction, their god is their stomach,(AH) and their glory is in their shame.(AI) Their mind is set on earthly things.(AJ) 20 But our citizenship(AK) is in heaven.(AL) And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,(AM) 21 who, by the power(AN) that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies(AO) so that they will be like his glorious body.(AP)

1 O God, why have you rejected(A) us forever?(B)
Why does your anger smolder against the sheep of your pasture?(C)
2 Remember the nation you purchased(D) long ago,(E)
the people of your inheritance,(F) whom you redeemed(G)—
Mount Zion,(H) where you dwelt.(I)
3 Turn your steps toward these everlasting ruins,(J)
all this destruction the enemy has brought on the sanctuary.

4 Your foes roared(K) in the place where you met with us;
they set up their standards(L) as signs.
5 They behaved like men wielding axes
to cut through a thicket of trees.(M)

with their axes and hatchets.
7 They burned your sanctuary to the ground;

15 Do not lurk like a thief near the house of the righteous,

Isaiah 62:6-65:25

6 On your walls, Jerusalem, I have placed sentries;
They must never be silent day or night.
They must remind the Lord of his promises
And never let him forget them.
7 They must give him no rest until he restores Jerusalem
And makes it a city the whole world praises.

8 The Lord has made a solemn promise,
And by his power he will carry it out:
“Your grain will no longer be food for your enemies,
And foreigners will no longer drink your wine.
9 But you that planted and harvested the grain
Will eat the bread and praise the Lord.
You that tended and gathered the grapes
Will drink the wine in the courts of my Temple.”

10 People of Jerusalem, go out of the city
And build a road for your returning people!
Prepare a highway; clear it of stones!
Put up a signal so that the nations can know
11 (A)That the Lord is announcing to all the earth:
“Tell the people of Jerusalem
That the Lord is coming to save you,
Bringing with him the people he has rescued.”
12 You will be called “God's Holy People,”
“The People the Lord Has Saved.”
Jerusalem will be called “The City That God Loves,”
“The City That God Did Not Forsake.”

The Lord's Victory over the Nations

63 (B)“Who is this coming from the city of Bozrah in Edom? Who is this so splendidly dressed in red, marching along[a] in power and strength?”

It is the Lord, powerful to save, coming to announce his victory.

2 “Why is his clothing so red, like that of someone who tramples grapes to make wine?”

3 (C)The Lord answers, “I have trampled the nations like grapes, and no one came to help me. I trampled them in my anger, and their blood has stained all my clothing. 4 I decided that the time to save my people had come; it was time to punish their enemies. 5 (D)I was amazed when I looked and saw that there was no one to help me. But my anger made me strong, and I won the victory myself. 6 In my anger I trampled whole nations and shattered them. I poured out their lifeblood on the ground.”

The Lord's Goodness to Israel

7 I will tell of the Lord's unfailing love;
I praise him for all he has done for us.
He has richly blessed the people of Israel
because of his mercy and constant love.

8 The Lord said, “They are my people; they will not deceive me.” And so he saved them 9 from all their suffering. It was not an angel, but the Lord himself who saved them. In his love and compassion he rescued them. He had always taken care of them in the past, 10 but they rebelled against him and made his holy spirit sad. So the Lord became their enemy and fought against them.

11 But then they[b] remembered the past, the days of Moses, the servant of the Lord, and they asked, “Where now is the Lord, who saved the leaders of his people from the sea? Where is the Lord, who gave his spirit to Moses? 12-13 (E)Where is the Lord, who by his power did great things through Moses, dividing the waters of the sea and leading his people through the deep water, to win everlasting fame for himself?”

Led by the Lord, they were as sure-footed as wild horses, and never stumbled. 14 As cattle are led into a fertile valley, so the Lord gave his people rest. He led his people and brought honor to his name.

A Prayer for Mercy and Help

15 Lord, look upon us from heaven, where you live in your holiness and glory. Where is your great concern for us? Where is your power? Where are your love and compassion? Do not ignore us. 16 You are our father. Our ancestors Abraham and Jacob do not acknowledge us, but you, Lord, are our father, the one who has always rescued us. 17 Why do you let us stray from your ways? Why do you make us so stubborn that we turn away from you? Come back, for the sake of those who serve you, for the sake of the people who have always been yours.

18 We, your holy people, were driven out by our enemies for a little while; they trampled down your sanctuary.[c] 19 You treat us as though you had never been our ruler, as though we had never been your people.

64 Why don't you tear the sky open and come down? The mountains would see you and shake with fear. 2 They would tremble like water boiling over a hot fire. Come and reveal your power to your enemies, and make the nations tremble at your presence! 3 There was a time when you came and did terrifying things that we did not expect; the mountains saw you and shook with fear. 4 (F)No one has ever seen or heard of a God like you, who does such deeds for those who put their hope in him. 5 You welcome those who find joy in doing what is right, those who remember how you want them to live. You were angry with us, but we went on sinning; in spite of your great anger we have continued to do wrong since ancient times.[d] 6 All of us have been sinful; even our best actions are filthy through and through. Because of our sins we are like leaves that wither and are blown away by the wind. 7 No one turns to you in prayer; no one goes to you for help. You have hidden yourself from us and have abandoned[e] us because of our sins.

8 But you are our father, Lord. We are like clay, and you are like the potter. You created us, 9 so do not be too angry with us or hold our sins against us forever. We are your people; be merciful to us. 10 Your sacred cities are like a desert; Jerusalem is a deserted ruin, 11 and our Temple, the sacred and beautiful place where our ancestors praised you, has been destroyed by fire. All the places we loved are in ruins. 12 Lord, are you unmoved by all this? Are you going to do nothing and make us suffer more than we can endure?

God's Punishment of the Rebellious

65 (G)The Lord said, “I was ready to answer my people's prayers, but they did not pray. I was ready for them to find me, but they did not even try. The nation did not pray to me, even though I was always ready to answer, ‘Here I am; I will help you.’ 2 (H)I have always been ready to welcome my people, who stubbornly do what is wrong and go their own way. 3 They shamelessly keep on making me angry. They offer pagan sacrifices at sacred gardens[f] and burn incense on pagan altars. 4 At night they go to caves and tombs to consult the spirits of the dead. They eat pork and drink broth made from meat offered in pagan sacrifices. 5 And then they say to others, ‘Keep away from us; we are too holy for you to touch!’ I cannot stand people like that—my anger against them is like a fire that never goes out.

6 “I have already decided on their punishment, and their sentence is written down. I will not overlook what they have done, but will repay them 7 for their sins and the sins of their ancestors. They have burned incense at pagan hill shrines and spoken evil of me. So I will punish them as their past deeds deserve.”

8 The Lord says, “No one destroys good grapes; instead, they make wine with them. Neither will I destroy all my people—I will save those who serve me. 9 I will bless the Israelites who belong to the tribe of Judah, and their descendants will possess my land of mountains. My chosen people, who serve me, will live there. 10 (I)They will worship me and will lead their sheep and cattle to pasture in the Plain of Sharon in the west and in Trouble Valley in the east.

11 “But it will be different for you that forsake me, who ignore Zion, my sacred hill,[g] and worship Gad and Meni, the gods of luck and fate. 12 It will be your fate to die a violent death, because you did not answer when I called you or listen when I spoke. You chose to disobey me and do evil. 13 And so I tell you that those who worship and obey me will have plenty to eat and drink, but you will be hungry and thirsty. They will be happy, but you will be disgraced. 14 They will sing for joy, but you will cry with a broken heart. 15 My chosen people will use your name as a curse. I, the Sovereign Lord, will put you to death. But I will give a new name to those who obey me. 16 Anyone in the land who asks for a blessing will ask to be blessed by the faithful God. Whoever takes an oath will swear by the name of the faithful God. The troubles of the past will be gone and forgotten.”

The New Creation

17 (J)The Lord says, “I am making a new earth and new heavens. The events of the past will be completely forgotten. 18 Be glad and rejoice forever in what I create. The new Jerusalem I make will be full of joy, and her people will be happy. 19 (K)I myself will be filled with joy because of Jerusalem and her people. There will be no weeping there, no calling for help. 20 Babies will no longer die in infancy, and all people will live out their life span. Those who live to be a hundred will be considered young. To die before that would be a sign that I had punished them. 21-22 People will build houses and get to live in them—they will not be used by someone else. They will plant vineyards and enjoy the wine—it will not be drunk by others. Like trees, my people will live long lives. They will fully enjoy the things that they have worked for. 23 The work they do will be successful, and their children will not meet with disaster. I will bless them and their descendants for all time to come. 24 Even before they finish praying to me, I will answer their prayers. 25 (L)Wolves and lambs will eat together; lions will eat straw, as cattle do, and snakes will no longer be dangerous. On Zion, my sacred hill,[h] there will be nothing harmful or evil.”

Philippians 2:19-3:3

Timothy and Epaphroditus

19 If it is the Lord's will, I hope that I will be able to send Timothy to you soon, so that I may be encouraged by news about you. 20 He is the only one who shares my feelings and who really cares about you. 21 Everyone else is concerned only with their own affairs, not with the cause of Jesus Christ. 22 And you yourselves know how he has proved his worth, how he and I, like a son and his father, have worked together for the sake of the gospel. 23 So I hope to send him to you as soon as I know how things are going to turn out for me. 24 And I trust in the Lord that I myself will be able to come to you soon.

25 I have thought it necessary to send to you our brother Epaphroditus, who has worked and fought by my side and who has served as your messenger in helping me. 26 He is anxious to see you all and is very upset because you had heard that he was sick. 27 Indeed he was sick and almost died. But God had pity on him, and not only on him but on me, too, and spared me an even greater sorrow. 28 I am all the more eager, then, to send him to you, so that you will be glad again when you see him, and my own sorrow will disappear. 29 Receive him, then, with joy, as a believer in the Lord. Show respect to all such people as he, 30 because he risked his life and nearly died for the sake of the work of Christ, in order to give me the help that you yourselves could not give.

The True Righteousness

3 In conclusion, my friends, be joyful in your union with the Lord. I don't mind repeating what I have written before, and you will be safer if I do so. 2 Watch out for those who do evil things, those dogs, those who insist on cutting the body. 3 It is we, not they, who have received the true circumcision, for we worship God by means of his Spirit and rejoice in our life in union with Christ Jesus. We do not put any trust in external ceremonies.

Psalm 73

BOOK THREE(A)

The Justice of God[a]

73 God is indeed good to Israel,
to those who have pure hearts.
2 But I had nearly lost confidence;
my faith was almost gone
3 because I was jealous of the proud
when I saw that things go well for the wicked.

4 They do not suffer pain;
they are strong and healthy.
5 They do not suffer as other people do;
they do not have the troubles that others have.
6 And so they wear pride like a necklace
and violence like a robe;
7 their hearts pour out evil,[b]
and their minds are busy with wicked schemes.
8 They laugh at other people and speak of evil things;
they are proud and make plans to oppress others.
9 They speak evil of God in heaven
and give arrogant orders to everyone on earth,
10 so that even God's people turn to them
and eagerly believe whatever they say.[c]
11 They say, “God will not know;
the Most High will not find out.”
12 That is what the wicked are like.
They have plenty and are always getting more.

13 Is it for nothing, then, that I have kept myself pure
and have not committed sin?
14 O God, you have made me suffer all day long;
every morning you have punished me.

15 If I had said such things,
I would not be acting as one of your people.
16 I tried to think this problem through,
but it was too difficult for me
17 until I went into your Temple.
Then I understood what will happen to the wicked.

18 You will put them in slippery places
and make them fall to destruction!
19 They are instantly destroyed;
they go down to a horrible end.
20 They are like a dream that goes away in the morning;
when you rouse yourself, O Lord, they disappear.

21 When my thoughts were bitter
and my feelings were hurt,
22 I was as stupid as an animal;
I did not understand you.
23 Yet I always stay close to you,
and you hold me by the hand.
24 You guide me with your instruction
and at the end you will receive me with honor.
25 What else do I have in heaven but you?
Since I have you, what else could I want on earth?
26 My mind and my body may grow weak,
but God is my strength;
he is all I ever need.

27 Those who abandon you will certainly perish;
you will destroy those who are unfaithful to you.
28 But as for me, how wonderful to be near God,
to find protection with the Sovereign Lord
and to proclaim all that he has done!

Today is October 1st welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian and it is wonderful to be here with you today as we end a week while beginning a month. So, here we are first day of the 10th month of the year 274th day of the year, which means 274 days ago we began our long journey, a year-long journey through life together, through the Scriptures together, every single book, every single paragraph, every single sentence, every single word and what a journey it has been, what a beautiful journey it has been, and what transformation has begun to take shape inside of us. And we have one quarter of the year left to go. So, we have plenty out in front of us, but we have plenty that we have covered already. And, so, it is wonderful to be here with you today as we begin this brand-new month of October. And whether it’s a brand-new month or a brand-new shiny sparkly week that we are entering into, we pick up where we left off. And that leads us back out into the territory of the book of Isaiah, which we have been reading for a bit now. We will actually conclude the book of Isaiah tomorrow. So, we are…we are rounding the corner on this prophetic book and will move forward after that, obviously, but we’ve still got a couple of days to spend with Isaiah. And, so, let’s dive in. We’ve been reading from the Good News Translation this week. Today Isaiah chapter 62 verse 6 through 65 verse 25.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word and we thank You for bringing us to the conclusion of another week together. Ans as we conclude this week, we are beginning this brand-new 10th month of the year and we consecrate this to You. We consecrate our hearts and ourselves to You in this brand-new month that is a shiny and brand-new gift that You are giving us day by day, moment by moment, a gift to be in Your presence, a gift to walk this life together with You. And we confess as we have so often, so much of the time we’re not paying attention. We’re cast to and frow. We’re running around from thing to thing to thing keeping the plates spinning trying to keep anything bad from happening to us when You have invited us into rest and instructed us that You will care for us. And we confess we make our own messes and then ask You to come and care for us when You have invited us away to walk with You and avoid so many of these pitfalls. You have invited us into a spacious place where we can see what is going on and not be tied to all of the things, we attach ourselves to. And, so, as we walk into this month we want to walk in freedom and that might mean that we have to let some of the plates fall. That might mean we have to listen to You so that we know what is actually going to be important in this final quarter of the year. Holy Spirit come lead us into all truth we ask in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Good morning Daily Audio Bible family this is the first time I’ve called in and I’ve been listening to Daily Audio Bible for many, many, many years since the beginning. Today it’s a beautiful day. I’m sitting outside and I am listening to the palm trees being trimmed and the sun is shining on my face, but my heart is grieved for a family that lives close by that their 22-year-old daughter Jolisa Fontes has been…gone missing. This family is a very, very tight believing loving family and they’re grieving and I’m asking you to join me in prayer for this young girl and that…and this family that this young girl would be found, that she would be found safe. And that Lord, we lift her up to You because we know You love her more than we could ever love her. Our hearts are grieving, grieving for this family. So, DABbers thank you so much for hearing the call of my heart for this family for this young girl and for all those that are missing loved ones.

Good morning DAB family it is September 26th this is __ in southeastern Washington, Princess Warrior of God. I’m listening to Daily Audio Bible. Thank you, Brian, Jill the whole Hardin family for this ministry that allows us to read and listen to God’s holy word on a daily basis. It has been in my life since 200…2008 on a daily basis and I thank you so much again. I heard a prayer request from a young lady…a lady in Norway who is seeking God for answers and was told that she needs to get married. Just…just keep praying to God and let God speak to you. Let His words speak to you. God knows everything that…that you’re ever going to want to know. He has you put your trust in him. He will never leave you or forsake you. His promises are true. So, keep…keep praying to Him. Read the word of God. Listen. Be quiet before Him and listen to Him. He may talk to you through a song. He may talk to you through someone who…who’s been praying and…and will give you a word. But He’s amazing. He is there for you. Never ever forget that. God is there for you. This is John Ransom calling from Budapest. Today is the 26th of September and a young man called in and was wondering how he could tell his story in two minutes and then you bared your heart, and you really touched me. I can really relate to some of the things you said. So, I wanted to share with you. First of all, you’re here and you’re talking to us and you’re listening to the word of God. So, that is wonderful because those seeds from the word of God go right into your heart, and they start changing everything and they give you discernment and revelation and most of all they show you how much God loves you. And secondly you know doubting Thomas was there and he was the one who wasn’t around when everybody else got the great reveal. But later Jesus remembered him and said, you know, here I am and don’t doubt anymore. But, you know, my experience is that our struggles and our doubts are totally legitimate, and this is where God really reveals himself. You know, the famous words of Jesus word anyone who wants to become a Christian is “follow me.” You know, follow me and honesty and ask me to forgive your sins and just let me know that you want to spend the rest of your life with me and let’s go on this great adventure together. So, He also said it’s like becoming as a little child. So, just become a little more childish, a little less complicated. Just leave it to Him. But just say yes, I want to go over that hill with you that’s ahead of us. I wanna go deep in the value with you. I just want you by my side and the rest will take care of it. So, Father in the name of Jesus I thank You for this young man and I pray that You would reveal Your Son to him and Lord Jesus that he would have a deep and intimate relationship with You through the power of Your Holy Spirit. Amen.

Hello, my name’s Jane I’m calling from the England a place called Alp Church. I just…put you…found you on my smart speaker and my ears picked up at the lady in Canada who’s having trouble with her marriage, the lady who called in about __ with a broken shoulder because I broke my shoulder last year and it was the worst pain ever. I felt like I was being electrocuted. And it was just like I was meant to hear you. I…my marriage my husband left me in September last year and I’m having to move out of my motor home in a few weeks and I’m praying that God will stir his heart and stir his mind and reconcile our marriage. I love him very much. We had a problem. He had an affair and then I couldn’t forgive him quickly enough. A few years I was still struggling with it, but I’ve…I’ve forgiven him now and I…I just I pray today for God to reconcile our marriage and I reach out to you. If you would do the same thing. I pray for all the people I’ve just heard here and the man who’s been godly and has been in an accident. I pray for all of you because God wants us all to be saved. And I receive the prayer for my marriage and __ back to me. Thank you and God bless.

Daily Audio Bible this is Rebecca from Michigan September 25th. I know it seems like I always have stuff together, but I don’t. I feel secluded by people. I feel rejection sometimes. I have a hard time handling rejection. When people say things inappropriate, I have no idea what they’re talking about because I don’t know what inappropriate is. Because I haven’t been going to church. I’ve been going to church online since COVID, and I just don’t feel at home at churches because when COVID happened I would have to sit by myself because I wasn’t part of a family. So, I felt isolated, and I can’t handle being isolated. So, I’d rather just stay by myself shut up and a building in my room than be isolated by people. And I go to work so I can be around people. I go to stores so I can be around people, but some things people have done to me I just have a hard time getting past it. And I’ve had some bad things happen to me and I know it’s my problem. It’s not nobody elses problem but I’ve been trying to ask God to help me but get past this certain __ and then COVID came along and then I said something inappropriate somebody said. So, I don’t know. I’m just…I know it seems like I have it all together. I keep working on my Bible reading…
