Nehemiah 1:1-3:14

Report from Jerusalem

The words of (A)Nehemiah the son of Hacaliah.

Now it happened in the month of (B)Chislev, (C)in the twentieth year, as I was in (D)Susa the citadel, that (E)Hanani, one of my brothers, came with certain men from Judah. And I asked them concerning the Jews who escaped, who had survived the exile, and concerning Jerusalem. And they said to me, “The remnant there in the province who had survived the exile is in great trouble and (F)shame. (G)The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, (H)and its gates are destroyed by fire.”

Nehemiah's Prayer

As soon as I heard these words I (I)sat down and wept and mourned for days, and I continued fasting and praying before the (J)God of heaven. And I said, “O Lord God of heaven, (K)the great and awesome God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, (L)let your ear be attentive and your eyes open, to hear the prayer of your servant that I now pray before you day and night for the people of Israel your servants, (M)confessing the sins of the people of Israel, which we have sinned against you. Even (N)I and my father's house have sinned. (O)We have acted very corruptly against you and have not kept the commandments, the statutes, and the rules (P)that you commanded your servant Moses. Remember the word that you commanded your servant Moses, saying, ‘If you are unfaithful, (Q)I will scatter you among the peoples, (R)but if you return to me and keep my commandments and do them, (S)though your outcasts are in the uttermost parts of heaven, from there I will gather them and bring them (T)to the place that I have chosen, to make my name dwell there.’ 10 (U)They are your servants and your people, whom you have redeemed by your great power and by your strong hand. 11 O Lord, (V)let your ear be attentive to the prayer of your servant, and to the prayer of your servants who delight to fear your name, and give success to your servant today, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man.”

Now I was (W)cupbearer to the king.

Nehemiah Sent to Judah

In the month of Nisan, (X)in the twentieth year of King (Y)Artaxerxes, when wine was before him, (Z)I took up the wine and gave it to the king. Now I had not been sad in his presence. And the king said to me, “Why is your face sad, seeing you are not sick? This is nothing but (AA)sadness of the heart.” Then I was very much afraid. I said to the king, (AB)“Let the king live forever! Why should not my face be sad, (AC)when the city, the place of my fathers' graves, lies in ruins, and its gates have been destroyed by fire?” Then the king said to me, “What are you requesting?” So I prayed (AD)to the God of heaven. And I said to the king, “If it pleases the king, and if your servant has found favor in your sight, that you send me to Judah, to the city of my fathers' graves, that I may rebuild it.” And the king said to me ((AE)the queen sitting beside him), “How long will you be gone, and when will you return?” So it pleased the king to send me (AF)when I had given him a time. And I said to the king, “If it pleases the king, let letters be given me (AG)to the governors of the province Beyond the River, that they may let me pass through until I come to Judah, and a letter to Asaph, the keeper of the king's forest, that he may give me timber to make beams for the gates of (AH)the fortress of the temple, and for the wall of the city, and for the house that I shall occupy.” And the king granted me what I asked, (AI)for the good hand of my God was upon me.

Nehemiah Inspects Jerusalem's Walls

Then I came to (AJ)the governors of the province Beyond the River and gave them the king's letters. Now the king had sent with me officers of the army and horsemen. 10 But when (AK)Sanballat the Horonite and (AL)Tobiah the Ammonite servant heard this, it displeased them greatly that someone had come to seek the welfare of the people of Israel.

11 (AM)So I went to Jerusalem and was there three days. 12 Then I arose in the night, I and a few men with me. And I told no one what my God had put into my heart to do for Jerusalem. There was no animal with me but the one on which I rode. 13 I went out by night by (AN)the Valley Gate to the Dragon Spring and to (AO)the Dung Gate, and I inspected the walls of Jerusalem (AP)that were broken down (AQ)and its gates that had been destroyed by fire. 14 Then I went on to (AR)the Fountain Gate and to (AS)the King's Pool, but there was no room for the animal that was under me to pass. 15 Then I went up in the night (AT)by the valley and inspected the wall, and I turned back and entered by the Valley Gate, and so returned. 16 And the officials did not know where I had gone or what I was doing, and I had not yet told the Jews, the priests, the nobles, the officials, and the rest who were to do the work.

17 Then I said to them, “You see the trouble we are in, (AU)how Jerusalem lies in ruins with its gates burned. Come, let us build the wall of Jerusalem, that we may no longer (AV)suffer derision.” 18 And I told them (AW)of the hand of my God that had been upon me for good, and also of the words that the king had spoken to me. And they said, “Let us rise up and build.” (AX)So they strengthened their hands for the good work. 19 But when Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the Ammonite servant and (AY)Geshem the Arab heard of it, (AZ)they jeered at us and despised us and said, “What is this thing that you are doing? (BA)Are you rebelling against the king?” 20 Then I replied to them, (BB)“The God of heaven will make us prosper, and we his servants will arise and build, but you have no portion or right or claim[a] in Jerusalem.”

Rebuilding the Wall

Then (BC)Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brothers the priests, and they built (BD)the Sheep Gate. They consecrated it and (BE)set its doors. They consecrated it as far as the Tower of the Hundred, as far as the (BF)Tower of Hananel. And next to him (BG)the men of Jericho built. And next to them[b] Zaccur the son of Imri built.

The sons of Hassenaah built (BH)the Fish Gate. (BI)They laid its beams and (BJ)set its doors, its bolts, and its bars. And next to them (BK)Meremoth the son of Uriah, son of Hakkoz repaired. And next to them (BL)Meshullam the son of Berechiah, son of Meshezabel repaired. And next to them Zadok the son of Baana repaired. And next to them (BM)the Tekoites repaired, but their nobles would not stoop to serve their Lord.[c]

Joiada the son of Paseah and Meshullam the son of Besodeiah (BN)repaired the Gate of Yeshanah.[d] (BO)They laid its beams and (BP)set its doors, its bolts, and its bars. And next to them repaired Melatiah the Gibeonite and Jadon the Meronothite, the men of Gibeon and of Mizpah, the seat of (BQ)the governor of the province Beyond the River. Next to them Uzziel the son of Harhaiah, goldsmiths, repaired. Next to him Hananiah, one of the perfumers, repaired, and they restored Jerusalem as far as (BR)the Broad Wall. Next to them Rephaiah the son of Hur, (BS)ruler of half the district of[e] Jerusalem, repaired. 10 Next to them Jedaiah the son of Harumaph repaired opposite his house. And next to him Hattush the son of Hashabneiah repaired. 11 Malchijah the son of Harim and Hasshub the son of Pahath-moab repaired another section and (BT)the Tower of the Ovens. 12 Next to him Shallum the son of Hallohesh, (BU)ruler of half the district of Jerusalem, repaired, he and his daughters.

13 Hanun and the inhabitants of Zanoah repaired (BV)the Valley Gate. They rebuilt it and (BW)set its doors, its bolts, and its bars, and repaired a thousand cubits[f] of the wall, as far as (BX)the Dung Gate.

14 Malchijah the son of Rechab, ruler of the district of (BY)Beth-haccherem, repaired (BZ)the Dung Gate. He rebuilt it and (CA)set its doors, its bolts, and its bars.

1 Corinthians 7:1-24

Principles for Marriage

Now concerning the matters about which you wrote: (A)“It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman.” But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband. (B)The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband. For the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. Likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. (C)Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by agreement for a limited time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer; but then come together again, (D)so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

Now as a concession, (E)not a command, I say this.[a] (F)I wish that all were (G)as I myself am. But (H)each has his own gift from God, (I)one of one kind and one of another.

To the unmarried and the widows I say that (J)it is good for them to remain single, (K)as I am. But if they cannot exercise self-control, (L)they should marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion.

10 To the married (M)I give this charge (not I, but the Lord): (N)the wife should not separate from her husband 11 (but if she does, (O)she should remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband), and (P)the husband should not divorce his wife.

12 To the rest I say (I, not the Lord) that if any brother has a wife who is an unbeliever, and she consents to live with him, he should not divorce her. 13 If any woman has a husband who is an unbeliever, and he consents to live with her, she should not divorce him. 14 For the unbelieving husband is made holy because of his wife, and the unbelieving wife is made holy because of her husband. (Q)Otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are holy. 15 But if the unbelieving partner separates, let it be so. In such cases the brother or sister is not enslaved. God has called you[b] (R)to peace. 16 For how do you know, wife, (S)whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, husband, whether you will save your wife?

Live as You Are Called

17 Only let each person lead the life[c] (T)that the Lord has assigned to him, and to which God has called him. (U)This is my rule in (V)all the churches. 18 Was anyone at the time of his call already circumcised? Let him not seek to remove the marks of circumcision. Was anyone at the time of his call uncircumcised? (W)Let him not seek circumcision. 19 (X)For neither circumcision counts for anything nor uncircumcision, but (Y)keeping the commandments of God. 20 (Z)Each one should remain in the condition in which he was called. 21 Were you a bondservant[d] when called? Do not be concerned about it. (But if you can gain your freedom, avail yourself of the opportunity.) 22 For he who was called in the Lord as a bondservant is (AA)a freedman of the Lord. Likewise he who was free when called is (AB)a bondservant of Christ. 23 (AC)You were bought with a price; (AD)do not become bondservants of men. 24 So, brothers,[e] (AE)in whatever condition each was called, there let him remain with God.

Psalm 31:19-24

19 Oh, how abundant is your goodness,
which you have stored up for those who fear you
and worked for those who take refuge in you,
(A)in the sight of the children of mankind!
20 In (B)the cover of your presence you hide them
from the plots of men;
you (C)store them in your shelter
from the strife of tongues.

21 Blessed be the Lord,
for he has wondrously (D)shown his steadfast love to me
when I was in (E)a besieged city.
22 I had said in my (F)alarm,[a]
“I am (G)cut off from (H)your sight.”
But you heard the voice of my pleas for mercy
when I cried to you for help.

23 Love the Lord, all you his (I)saints!
The Lord preserves the faithful
but abundantly (J)repays the one who acts in pride.
24 (K)Be strong, and let your heart take courage,
all you who wait for the Lord!

Nehemiah 1:1-3:14, 1 Corinthians 7:1-24, Psalms 31:19-24, Proverbs 21:4

Today is the 11th day of August welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I’m Brian it is a joy it is a pleasure it is an honor and a marvel…a marvel that we live in a time where there’s technology like this, that we can be together right now and spend some time in God’s word together. So, it is a joy to be here with you today. And as we get into our days reading, we find that we concluded the book of Ezra yesterday, short book, which leads us to another book and this one is called Nehemiah.

Introduction to the Book of Nehemiah:

And we’re kinda dealing with the same time period and this is another of the books of history in the Scriptures and we’re actually not too far from completing the books of history in the Scriptures. We’ve got a little ways to go but we’ll get there. Anyway, Nehemiah picks up pretty much where Ezra left off. It’s…in Christian tradition, Ezra is at least one of the authors of Nehemiah because Ezra and Nehemiah were a single manuscript at one point, they were separate documents as they are broken up now. But Nehemiah was one of the Jewish exiles who had been carried off to Babylon and then Babylon changed hands. The Persians overcame them and he had followed the story of what God was doing and giving favor to the Jewish people among the Persians and then being allowed, the first people, being allowed to go back home to their homeland and begin to rebuild God’s temple and have cover and protection and provision to do that. So, he’s watching this story, and Nehemiah was able to kind of watch the story pretty close because he was a direct servant to the Persian king. And Nehemiah’s heart was drawn to this story, this story of return from exile, this story of the rebuilding of the temple and it pulled him into months of interceding and his intercession was wrapped around one kind of image in his heart that was kind of breaking his heart, it was the image of God’s temple in Jerusalem, which is the very symbol of the Jewish people, the place where God would meet with human beings, the place where God put His name. He sees it sitting there in his mind’s eye completely undefended and that begins to build in him a passion to see the walls of Jerusalem rebuilt so that they could protect the temple of the Lord. And that just percolated, it just wouldn’t leave him, and he kept praying over it until finally he needed to approach the king with his desire. And we’ll see that he does get favor and he is able to go but it’s just like the rest of the stories in the Bible, it didn’t all go well. Like, there was all kinds of opposition that he had to endure, all kinds of stuff that he had to persevere through, but he didn't…he didn’t deviate. Like his purpose didn’t change. He didn’t lose sight of what he felt called to do any didn’t lose sight that in order to accomplish something like that he would have to utterly depend upon the Lord. And the thing is, of so many of the books of the Bible and so many of the stories of the Bible this one, the story of Nehemiah has a lot for us in our own lives about persevering, about enduring, about not losing focus, about how leadership can be done. And we’ll see that the wall does get rebuilt and it’s rebuilt faster than anybody thought. And Nehemiah goes back to Persia to tell the king and to begin serving the King again and then later he gets to go back to Jerusalem and then what he finds is like heartbreaking again. They have a strong wall and the people are so weak. They are so rebellious. They are so walking away from their covenantal relationship with God. And, so Nehemiah is able to step into that and…and restore Israel to the Lord and cause repentance and revival move throughout the land. So, yeah, like I was saying this is one of the books of history but it’s like a living metaphor for how to live into a passion and a calling. And, so, with that we begin. We’re reading from the English Standard Version this week. Nehemiah chapter 1 verse one through 3 verse 14.

Commentary:

Okay. So, we…we’ve already spent some time talking about this new book that we are in and it’s not a long book. We will complete it within a week, the book of Nehemiah. But we were saying this is really…watching Nehemiah navigate is really, really helpful to observe as we navigate, especially…like under the circumstances. This is Nehemiah with a passionate desire, even a calling to do something. And, so, just in today’s reading alone, we saw Nehemiah in Persia. We saw him hearing about what’s going on in Jerusalem. We see this thing get birthed in his horror and how he stays…like he keeps it to himself and he begins interceding before the Lord about this. And we saw him become passionate about this. And we can only deduce that he began to plan, like in hopes of this, knowing that one day he…he’s the cupbearer of the King. He’s gonna have to be go before the king who could be frustrated with a request like this and just be done with him, right? Like his life could be over and yet his got this passion. And, so, he’s methodically praying into it, getting direction from God about it, making plans and holding it in his heart and so that when he does go before the king, he is given favor and he’s got a plan. And, so, he makes a long journey to Jerusalem and he’s got letters, like he’s got authority, he’s got resources, like he’s got the command of the King behind him, but he…like he doesn’t ride into town with a banner, right, and climb down off of his horse and pull up his britches and act all proud and arrogant. He is completely quiet about the plans. Like, he hasn’t shared what he’s going to do with anybody. And he does this for three days. Like, he does these reconnaissance missions on the walls of Jerusalem and nobody knows what he’s doing. Like, he’s getting everything in order before there are a bunch of voices in the mix. And he’s counting the cost to see what this is going to take so that when he presents the vision he is…he’s prepared, like he knows what it’s gonna take and he’s able to spur people into action and so they dive in. And we’ve got a lot more to go, but just that right there is so helpful. There is just so much to learn right there. And we’ll see how this story continues as we continue forward in the coming days.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You. We thank You for Your word. We thank You for this and every book or letter in the Scriptures. We thank You for what You have given us in all the different genres of literature that we get to experience in a year as we go through the Scriptures and we thank You for this book of Nehemiah. And as we watch this story, we invite Your Holy Spirit to help us to overlay our own stories and find guidance and clarity that we’ve been seeking and we invite Your Holy Spirit to speak that clarity into our stories. And we ask expectantly in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Hi this is Radiant Rachel let’s pray. Dear Lord, we lift up all those who have loved ones or who themselves are suffering from the COVID-19 virus. I pray that You will surround them with healing and comfort Lord. I pray that their symptoms will be lessened and manageable and that they will come through this, that You will provide full healing complete healing. I pray that You will give them peace and their families peace as well. And I pray for anyone who is struggling with the virus and expecting. I pray for the little children who are, You know, still with their mommies and I just lift them up to You Lord and we know that You will protect them. I also want to pray for the people who come in contact with COVID-19 positive people. Lord I just thank You for keeping them safe and I thank You for minimizing this virus and keeping it from spreading any further. I thank You that there is light at the end Lord and I just pray that You will be with us as we go through this. In Your name I pray. Amen.

Good morning this is Miriam it’s August 8th and I am calling in response to Megan Kimman. I just heard your message and the strangest thing is I was just sitting here right before I heard your message on Daily Audio Bible I was thinking about the days when I was a young lady and was living in a similar situation to you and feeling the same feelings that you expressed about not wanting to live in sin with my boyfriend and feeling trapped. And sis, I just want to tell you I really feel for you and empathize with you. The timing of this just makes me think that God is telling me to reach out to you and let you know that you’re not alone and that you have a huge family here at Daily Audio Bible. And also, it sounds like your boyfriend might be manipulative…well…you said he manipulates you. It sounds like he’s possibly a narcissist and has possibly cut you off from your friends and family and church otherwise you would have a…a support system to fall back on in this situation. So, I encourage you to reach out to your own family, reach out to old friends, reach out to your church. And if you would like to reach out to me you can reach me at my email. It’s mimiquag@yahoo.com. I encourage you to not give up, not buckle and be strong. Trust in God. He will honor your attempts to follow Him and do what’s right and He will take care of you. God is your safety net. God is your husband.

Good morning Daily Audio Bible family this is Terry from farm country in New York calling for Megan. I heard her on August 8th she was the first one of the prayer line and she’s asking for prayer for decisions that she needs to make regarding the relationship she’s in. She said she’s living in sin and she’s very worried about, I’m sure the relationship, as well as not having a car, not being able to get to her job and just various other things that would come from separating for a little while and getting counseling. I am praying for you and your, I believe, fiancé or who you are living with, that you make this correction now and it will benefit you later. I know a teacher that I listen to and respect highly spoke of making these course corrections, listening to the Holy Spirit, and equated it to corrections made in an airplane or driving an automobile. You make those little corrections constantly in order to stay on the right path and you’re being prompted by the Holy Spirit and you need to follow through on it. I’m just praying for that because you will benefit later by following God’s leading even if it’s short-term pain. And I’m reminded of Matthew 6 where Jesus is speaking about not worrying for the things of this world and what you wear, and…and what you eat and other things. He says, “seek first the kingdom of God and all these things will be added to you” and I truly believe that. I’ve seen it in my own life, I’ve seen it in the lives of friends and others that I know and just praying that you will just have peace in making this decision and God will bless you for it. Love you sister.

Hey Daily Audio Bible family it’s Rebecca Joy from Illinois and what I’m about to say, may God speak through me because I don’t want my own voice to be heard through this, but yeah, I’m just praying that it’ll be purely Him that’s talking through me rather than myself. I’m calling for two people today, Sierra and Pelham over the topic of addiction. I first off wanted to say thank you to Sierra for just being honest. I have also struggled with sexual addiction in my past and present still…it’s still following me. It was here when I was a teen and in my early 20s right now and its still kind of bothering me. And for Pelham, man I feel…I feel for you. I appreciate so much that your nickname is Addicted to Christ because that’s just speaking truth over yourself and I encourage you to keep on doing that. But I wanted to pray for both of you guys because I know…I know what it feels like to be addicted to something and it’s not fun, it’s just…it’s…it’s your addicted to a feeling because it’s some kind of escapism that you’re trying…you’re trying to feel better about something or you’re trying to forget something and you’re trying to find peace and comfort through whatever’s distracting you and whatever your mind is hooked on and I know this is not healthy but I understand and so many other people do. And anyone who is struggling with addiction there is a place where you can be with God where you can escape from those feelings, maybe not feeling them, but you can escape from the tie that they have on you. It’s possible, I know it is because I’ve seen it in my own life. And I hope that everyone knows that and you don’t give up. I don’t have all the answers, but I just wanted to say keep trying. It’s possible. Thanks.

This is Grandpa Bob from Michigan and I’m crying out and reaching out to Sierra from Arizona. Honey I…I heard your cry and I will be praying for you. And know that these kinds of addictions are often rooted into that earlier abuse that you’ve experienced. I am so sorry that you had to experience that but it does lead to addictions like you’re experiencing. And honey, you cannot beat this on your own strength. You have to ask the Lord to help you get through this. I believe in kill and fill. Every day I pray, “Lord kill the sinful desires of my flesh and fill me with your Holy Spirit.” So, kill the flesh and fill with the Spirit. Only the Lord can give you the strength to overcome all these temptations. And I’m also a biblical counselor and believe it or not maybe one step you might consider is to ask the Lord for the strength to forgive your abusers. It doesn’t mean the you have to go to them and seek their…talk with them. I mean, just in your heart forgive them for the abuse and that might be the first step toward your healing. But honey, you cannot do this on your own. But you’re a beautiful child of God. The Lord is obviously knocking on your door and prompting you with the Holy Spirit that you ask for prayer and that took courage. So, proud of you. I will continue to pray. Love you child. You can do this. In God we pray. Amen.

Ezra 10

The People Confess Their Sin

10 (A)While Ezra prayed and (B)made confession, weeping and (C)casting himself down (D)before the house of God, a very great assembly of men, women, and children, gathered to him out of Israel, for the people wept bitterly. And Shecaniah the son of Jehiel, of the sons of Elam, addressed Ezra: (E)“We have broken faith with our God and have married foreign women from the peoples of the land, but even now there is hope for Israel in spite of this. Therefore (F)let us make a covenant with our God to put away all these wives and (G)their children, according to the counsel of my lord[a] and of (H)those who tremble at the commandment of our God, and let it be done (I)according to the Law. Arise, for it is your task, and we are with you; (J)be strong and do it.” Then Ezra arose and made the leading priests and Levites and all Israel (K)take an oath that they would do as had been said. So they took the oath.

Then Ezra withdrew (L)from before the house of God and went to the (M)chamber of (N)Jehohanan the son of (O)Eliashib, where he spent the night,[b] neither (P)eating bread nor drinking water, for he was mourning over the faithlessness of the exiles. And a proclamation was made throughout Judah and Jerusalem to all the returned exiles that they should assemble at Jerusalem, and that if anyone did not come within three days, by order of the officials and the elders all his property should be forfeited, and he himself banned from the congregation of the exiles.

Then all the men of Judah and Benjamin assembled at Jerusalem within the three days. It was the ninth month, on the twentieth day of the month. And all the people sat in the open square before the house of God, trembling because of this matter and because of the (Q)heavy rain. 10 And Ezra the priest stood up and said to them, “You have broken faith and married foreign women, and so increased the guilt of Israel. 11 Now then (R)make confession to the Lord, the God of your fathers and do his will. (S)Separate yourselves from the peoples of the land and from the foreign wives.” 12 Then all the assembly answered with a loud voice, “It is so; we must do as you have said. 13 But the people are many, and it is a time of heavy rain; we cannot stand in the open. Nor is this a task for one day or for two, for we have greatly transgressed in this matter. 14 Let our officials stand for the whole assembly. Let all in our cities who have taken foreign wives come (T)at appointed times, and with them the elders and judges of every city, (U)until the fierce wrath of our God over this matter is turned away from us.” 15 Only Jonathan the son of Asahel and Jahzeiah the son of Tikvah opposed this, and (V)Meshullam and (W)Shabbethai the Levite supported them.

16 Then the returned exiles did so. Ezra the priest selected men,[c] heads of fathers' houses, according to their fathers' houses, each of them designated by name. On the first day of the tenth month they sat down to examine the matter; 17 and by the first day of the first month they had come to the end of all the men who had married foreign women.

Those Guilty of Intermarriage

18 Now there were found some of the sons of the priests who had married foreign women: Maaseiah, Eliezer, Jarib, and Gedaliah, some of the sons of (X)Jeshua the son of Jozadak and his brothers. 19 They (Y)pledged themselves to put away their wives, and their guilt offering was (Z)a ram of the flock for their guilt.[d] 20 (AA)Of the sons of Immer: Hanani and Zebadiah. 21 (AB)Of the sons of Harim: Maaseiah, Elijah, Shemaiah, Jehiel, and Uzziah. 22 Of the sons of Pashhur: Elioenai, Maaseiah, Ishmael, Nethanel, Jozabad, and Elasah.

23 Of the Levites: Jozabad, Shimei, Kelaiah (that is, Kelita), Pethahiah, Judah, and Eliezer. 24 Of the singers: Eliashib. Of the gatekeepers: Shallum, Telem, and Uri.

25 And of Israel: of the sons of Parosh: Ramiah, Izziah, Malchijah, Mijamin, Eleazar, Hashabiah,[e] and Benaiah. 26 Of the sons of Elam: Mattaniah, Zechariah, Jehiel, Abdi, Jeremoth, and Elijah. 27 Of the sons of Zattu: Elioenai, Eliashib, Mattaniah, Jeremoth, Zabad, and Aziza. 28 Of the sons of Bebai were Jehohanan, Hananiah, Zabbai, and Athlai. 29 Of the sons of Bani were Meshullam, Malluch, Adaiah, Jashub, Sheal, and Jeremoth. 30 Of the sons of Pahath-moab: Adna, Chelal, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattaniah, Bezalel, Binnui, and Manasseh. 31 Of the (AC)sons of Harim: Eliezer, Isshijah, Malchijah, Shemaiah, Shimeon, 32 Benjamin, Malluch, and Shemariah. 33 Of the sons of Hashum: Mattenai, Mattattah, Zabad, Eliphelet, Jeremai, Manasseh, and Shimei. 34 Of the sons of (AD)Bani: Maadai, Amram, Uel, 35 Benaiah, Bedeiah, Cheluhi, 36 Vaniah, Meremoth, Eliashib, 37 Mattaniah, Mattenai, Jaasu. 38 Of the sons of Binnui:[f] Shimei, 39 Shelemiah, Nathan, Adaiah, 40 Machnadebai, Shashai, Sharai, 41 Azarel, Shelemiah, Shemariah, 42 Shallum, Amariah, and Joseph. 43 Of the sons of Nebo: Jeiel, Mattithiah, Zabad, Zebina, Jaddai, Joel, and Benaiah. 44 All these had married foreign women, and some of the women (AE)had even borne children.[g]

1 Corinthians 6

Lawsuits Against Believers

When one of you has a grievance against another, does he dare go to law before the unrighteous (A)instead of the saints? Or do you not know that (B)the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you incompetent to try trivial cases? Do you not know that we are to judge angels? How much more, then, matters pertaining to this life! So if you have such cases, (C)why do you lay them before those who have no standing in the church? (D)I say this to your shame. Can it be that there is no one among you wise enough to settle a dispute between the brothers, but brother goes to law against brother, and that before unbelievers? To have lawsuits at all with one another is already a defeat for you. (E)Why not rather suffer wrong? Why not rather be defrauded? But you yourselves wrong and defraud—even (F)your own brothers![a]

Or do you not know that the unrighteous[b] will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: (G)neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality,[c] 10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And (H)such were some of you. But (I)you were washed, (J)you were sanctified, (K)you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Flee Sexual Immorality

12 (L)“All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything. 13 (M)“Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food”—and God will destroy both one (N)and the other. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but (O)for the Lord, and (P)the Lord for the body. 14 And (Q)God raised the Lord and (R)will also raise us up (S)by his power. 15 Do you not know that (T)your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! 16 Or do you not know that he who is joined[d] to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, (U)“The two will become one flesh.” 17 But he who is joined to the Lord (V)becomes one spirit with him. 18 (W)Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin[e] a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person (X)sins against his own body. 19 Or (Y)do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? (Z)You are not your own, 20 (AA)for you were bought with a price. (AB)So glorify God in your body.

Psalm 31:9-18

Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am (A)in distress;
(B)my eye is wasted from grief;
my soul and my body also.
10 For my life is spent with sorrow,
and my years with sighing;
my strength fails because of my iniquity,
and (C)my bones waste away.

11 Because of all my adversaries I have become (D)a reproach,
especially to my (E)neighbors,
and an object of dread to my acquaintances;
those who see me in the street (F)flee from me.
12 I have been (G)forgotten like one who is dead;
I have become like (H)a broken vessel.
13 For I (I)hear the whispering of many—
terror on every side!—
(J)as they scheme together against me,
as they plot to take my life.

14 But I (K)trust in you, O Lord;
I say, “You are my God.”
15 My (L)times are in your hand;
(M)rescue me from the hand of my enemies and from my persecutors!
16 (N)Make your face shine on your servant;
save me in your steadfast love!
17 O Lord, (O)let me not be put to shame,
for I call upon you;
let the wicked be put to shame;
let them go (P)silently to Sheol.
18 Let the lying lips be mute,
which (Q)speak (R)insolently against the righteous
in pride and contempt.

Psalm 31:9-18

Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am (A)in distress;
(B)my eye is wasted from grief;
my soul and my body also.
10 For my life is spent with sorrow,
and my years with sighing;
my strength fails because of my iniquity,
and (C)my bones waste away.

11 Because of all my adversaries I have become (D)a reproach,
especially to my (E)neighbors,
and an object of dread to my acquaintances;
those who see me in the street (F)flee from me.
12 I have been (G)forgotten like one who is dead;
I have become like (H)a broken vessel.
13 For I (I)hear the whispering of many—
terror on every side!—
(J)as they scheme together against me,
as they plot to take my life.

14 But I (K)trust in you, O Lord;
I say, “You are my God.”
15 My (L)times are in your hand;
(M)rescue me from the hand of my enemies and from my persecutors!
16 (N)Make your face shine on your servant;
save me in your steadfast love!
17 O Lord, (O)let me not be put to shame,
for I call upon you;
let the wicked be put to shame;
let them go (P)silently to Sheol.
18 Let the lying lips be mute,
which (Q)speak (R)insolently against the righteous
in pride and contempt.

Ezra 10:1-44, 1 Corinthians 6:1-20, Psalms 31:9-18, Proverbs 21:3

Today is the 10th day of August, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian and it’s a joy to be here with you today as we get into this week, continue our journey together, and just…just come around the Global Campfire and let it go and just take a break, take a break from all the chaos that can be all around us and just let God’s word speak into it. And, so let’s dive in. We’re reading this week from the English Standard Version. Ezra chapter 10.

Commentary:

Okay. So in the…in the book, the letter known as first Corinthians, Paul is continuing to speak…speak to the people of the church in Corinth to the issues that they have brought to his attention, the questions, the kinds of things that they’re asking. And he’s being very direct in his responses and it’s really easy to go, “wow man, this guy’s really going for it, heaping the condemnation on in a big way.” But that’s really not what he’s trying to do. What he’s trying to do is say, “lift your eyes, raise the bar, you’re better, you’re bigger, there is a bigger thing going on, you’re a part of something way larger, you need to look way above it all. And, so, he’s like…like taking people to court. In this time in Corinth you had a problem, well, you went before a judge to get the matter sorted out. Sounds pretty much like today. Paul’s trying to say like, “look a little bit higher. Look at who you are and who you are becoming. You are becoming a judge of the world. You will judge angels. Like where this is all going is a lot bigger than a little disagreement that you got to run off to Small Claims Court about in front of unbelievers and you too are brothers or you are brother and sister or you are sisters, like whatever. You can sort this out, can’t you? Isn’t there some way you can sort this out so you can remain being examples of the light instead of children of the light fighting over each other bringing the darkness?” He has a whole bunch of different behaviors that they’re…that they’re apparently asking about. And, so, he’s like condemning certain things and saying, “look higher, bigger, this is a bigger story. Yes, Jesus has made you completely free. You are free. Do you want to use that freedom to engage in bondage? Like do you want to use that freedom to shackle yourself in bondage.” Like one of the questions that we are asking is like, “well…since we’re free, can we…like how do we handle sexual ethics? Can we sleep with anybody that we want to, whoever we want to, however, we want to because were free? We’re free and we’re to be looking higher, we’re to…we’re to be looking at the world from a spiritual perspective. And, so, why…why can’t we just have sex with whoever we want to because what does it matter? Like it’s just our bodies?” And Paul’s basically going like, “yeah, the thing is, sex isn’t like having an ice cream cone together. It’s not just like, your body having some kind of transaction with somebody else’s body. Like there’s a spiritual exchange involved here. Look bigger, look higher.” And you can see some of the exasperation from Paul coming through in the tone of voice that he’s using. And he sums this up really succinctly in a way that we can carry around in our pockets and purses and remember. He says, “all things are lawful for me”, right? So, in other words, “I am totally free, but not all things are helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be dominated by anything.” And then he talks about food, which is another one of things they’re talking about or asking about. Like, he’s saying like, “all the bodily things that you’re trying to get away with, like you’re trying to say we’re spiritual beings who are completely free and so it doesn’t really matter what we do to or with our bodies anymore. That’s not true. Your body is the temple of the Spirit of God with you. It all matters. And the reason it matters is because you died. You are not who you were. You were bought with a price. You were brought back to life. So, glorify God in your body.”

Prayer:

Jesus, we look at this and it’s a constant, it’s been a constant wrestling match about how to live spiritually while engaged in a…a fleshly body in a culture where there’s all kinds of things going on. It’s not always clear. And, so, we wrestle with our freedoms and we wrestle with…we wrestle with the things that would be bondage to us and we are constantly almost on a wheel where it just spins around and around and around but what we’re being told here in the letter to the Corinthians today is that it’s a bigger story than this. We can lose the plot of the story and it gets really confusing very fast because it’s not clear what’s happening anymore. But when we are clear, when our eyes are open, when we can see then we do become aware of Your presence in every decision, but we also become more and more aware that You aren't…You aren’t the magic super sauce for our lives. Like we don’t just apply You to our lives and then things get easier and smoother. What we are actually doing here is surrendering to You leaving behind who we were, which means we’re leaving behind the patterns and the choices that we used to make because we are aware that that persons gone and this person, this new creation doesn’t have to live that way and we don’t need to use our freedom to get ourselves into bondage even though we can, even though You permit it. We were bought with a great price. And, so, may we glorify You may You come and show us what that looks like for each of us today. We ask this in Your precious name. Amen.

Ezra 8:21-9:15, 1 Corinthians 5:1-13, Psalms 31:1-8, Proverbs 21:1-2

Today is the 9th day of August welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I’m Brian it is great to be here with you as we collectively reach out and twist the knob and throw open the door and step into this new week together, shiny and sparkly, all new out in front of us just waiting for us to write the story of our lives upon as we go through this week. And, so, it’s great to be here with you at this threshold as we step into the new week and as we invite God’s word to speak into this week and tell us what we need to know as we continue to navigate forward. So, brand-new week, which means we’ll read from a different translation. This week we’ll read from the English Standard Version and we will pick up where we left off yesterday. Ezra chapter 8 verse 21 through 9 verse 15.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for bringing us across this threshold into a brand-new, shiny, sparkly week and we refer to it that way because it’s a new beginning, and we just…we have these markers along the way that make up the story of a year and the beginning of each week is one of those markers and we have 52 of those markers and we know this, we gauge our lives kind of around the rhythm of the year and we thank You that we have that and we thank You that we have Your word involved every single day. And, so, as we cross…cross every threshold we are reminded all things have been made new. Every threshold is a new start and here we are at one of them. And, so, we become aware of Your presence, we become aware of Your Holy Spirit’s guidance in our lives and we seek to follow Your direction and Your counsel every moment of this brand-new shiny sparkly new week. We need You. We’re not going to navigate this successfully without You. We can’t navigate the next five minutes successfully without You. And, so, come Holy Spirit, we become aware of You and we invite You to lead us in every way possible as we move into this new week. Come Jesus we pray. In Your precious name, we ask. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

DAB family this is Jordan in Texas just wanted to say to Standing Firm in South Carolina your…your kind of confession that when you make calls you in one way or another kind of make it about yourself, you know, recognition or wanting to look important. And I just want to thank you for saying that. It took courage and boldness and you saying that to all those others who may feel that way you’re not alone. And, so, that’s me because I was actually thinking about doing the same thing, saying something. And, so, I do say that now, just confessing that…that like the three or four times I’ve called in to pray for others kind of having that feeling of, “I hope I hear” you know “I hope I hear a little bit of accolades about how cool my prayer was.” And it’s ridiculous and embarrassing and I just want to bring that before you guys and the Lord. And anyways, I…I also want to just by way of you guys getting to know me because I love getting to know you, ask for prayer for my marriage. My wife just had our second son, he’s 16 days old and, you know, just the emotions and hormones kind of can swing one way or another and I lose patience with her and get short with her and even knowing that…that her hormones are kind of up and down and whatever it just…there’s…it’s hard for me to give her grace. And I know that comes from wounding in my life. And anyways if you’d pray for that. And also please my older son he’s 2 ½ and he’s so sweet and so gentle with baby brother Benjamin and…but Caleb is just having a hard time adjusting…

Hello this is All the Treasures from Wyoming and I have an urgent prayer request please for anybody who hears this message. There’s a young lady here who is in our ICU hospital her name is Emily and she developed blood clots and those blood clots broke loose and went into her heart and she almost died. They had to do emergency surgery and she almost bled out and she’s in really bad shape. And anybody who hears this message, if you could please pray for her. I don’t know if she knows the Lord, but I’ve been praying that He would meet her right where she’s at and that she would live to tell about it and have a wonderful testimony of His goodness. Please join me in praying for her. Again, her name is Emily…

Hello everybody this is Tony the Narrator. Michael and Elijah, please let us know how you guys are getting on now. You know, this…we…we your’re…you’re still in many of our prayers, probably the majority of us pray for you. We love you we miss you. Please let us know what’s going on. And a big shout out to everybody else, you all know who you are. Thank you so much for the prayers for my brole life and I promised you my testimony. So, with a minute and 23 seconds here we go. So, on November the 24th, 2009 I was doing 65 miles an hour in a 70 mile or road on my motorbike going for a job interview with an electricity company where I was going to be going door to door going, “do you want to change your electric company?” All right by then…which I was actually really looking forward to. But anyway, so this guy in a van pulled out in front of me and my groin hit the fuel tank at 65 miles an hour, I broke my pelvis in four places, my spine, I broke my wrist in four places, my thumb was hanging backwards, I broke both my hands - various different breaks. I did…I bruised my lungs, I bruise my ribs, I did soft tissue damage in various different places and also brain damage. I should be dead. I was bleeding out and laying there, I ended up having to have four pints of blood that day. I shouldn’t be here and my dad got on the phone and he said, “son, if you don’t become a Christian you’re gonna die!” Just like God’s Smile he’s from Lancaster too. And, so, I became a Christian that day. Praise the Lord. I love you guys, God bless…

Heavenly Father I pray that You would set all those free who are struggling with anxiety, depression, and mental illness. You have the power to set us free, so I ask that of You right now. I also pray You would give direction to those who don’t yet know You and what their calling is in life. I also pray for all those who don’t know You yet and have hardened hearts toward You. I pray that You would soften their hearts and bring people into their lives to speak truth. Allow them to be open to the gospel to hear Your good news and Your powerful news. In Your powerful name.

Hi, so I’ve never done this before, but I thought it was a good opportunity to try it out. So, my parents moved recently and because of that they both had to quit their jobs. And luckily my mom was able to find something again, but my dad has really been struggling. It’s really taken a toll on him. He is a man who needs to feel like he’s doing something, like he’s contributing, like…like he has a purpose. And, so, it’s been really hard for him and for us seeing him like this. And I would just ask that whoever hears this will stand in agreement with me, will pray with me, not just that my dad would get work but that he would get something that he is passionate about, something that is worthwhile and that he would just keep good spirits and keep on praying and keep talking to the Lord about it and that he won’t just isolate himself and, you know, give into that feeling of uselessness. Thank you very much.

Hi this is Teresa from Indiana God bless you all. I just want to mention a couple people. I feel like I’m just growing so close to everybody. I’ve never met one of you but we’re all so connected. Mike…Mike I’m just proclaiming every day. I’m praying for you and am proclaiming that Annie is delivered from drugs. She is whole and that baby is healthy. In the name of Jesus, I’m…I’m…I’m proclaiming it every day. The Bible says to call those things that aren’t as though they were. So, I am doing that, and she is delivered from drugs in the name of Jesus. She’s whole, she’s healthy, she saved, she’s delivered, and you have peace in the name of Jesus. Daniel from Singapore, O, God bless you sweetheart. That’s so precious, so precious. I’ve just listened to that song and your prayer every single day. This is August the 6th. So, it’s been like four days later and I’m still listening to it. I’m going back to it. It’s…it’s so precious. Remember all the things that David the great man of the Bible went through, David and Paul. The Psalms, how many times there was an attempt on David’s life. My husband preached last night so many times someone was trying to kill him he was crying out to God. So many things that Paul went through, you know, being stoned and shipwrecked and all the things that he went through being in prison for so long for nothing just for loving Jesus and proclaiming his good news. And, you know, we have to go through these things I guess because we wouldn’t be who we are without…without the fires and the trials in our life. It makes us closer to God. It brings…we pray more it…it just…it just…it just molds us into who we are. We need that. I love you guys. God bless you.

The Daily Audio Bible Reading for Sunday August 9, 2020 (NIV)

Ezra 8:21-9:15

Fasting and Prayer for Protection

21 (A)Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river (B)Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God, (C)to seek from him a safe journey for ourselves, our children, and all our goods. 22 For I was ashamed to ask the king for a band of soldiers and horsemen to protect us against the enemy on our way, since we had told the king, (D)“The hand of our God is for good on (E)all who seek him, and the power of his wrath is against all who forsake him.” 23 So we fasted and implored our God for this, and he listened to our entreaty.

Priests to Guard Offerings

24 Then I set apart twelve of the leading priests: (F)Sherebiah, (G)Hashabiah, and ten of their kinsmen with them. 25 And I weighed out to them the (H)silver and the gold and the vessels, the offering for the house of our God that the king and his (I)counselors and his lords and all Israel there present had offered. 26 (J)I weighed out into their hand 650 talents[a] of silver, and silver vessels worth 200 talents,[b] and 100 talents of gold, 27 20 bowls of gold worth 1,000 darics,[c] and two vessels of fine bright bronze as precious as gold. 28 And I said to them, (K)“You are holy to the Lord, and (L)the vessels are holy, and the silver and the gold are a freewill offering to the Lord, the God of your fathers. 29 Guard them and keep them until you weigh them before the chief priests and the Levites and the heads of fathers' houses in Israel at Jerusalem, (M)within the chambers of the house of the Lord.” 30 So the priests and the Levites (N)took over the weight of the silver and the gold and the vessels, to bring them to Jerusalem, to the house of our God.

31 Then we departed from the river Ahava (O)on the twelfth day of the first month, to go to Jerusalem. (P)The hand of our God was on us, and he delivered us from the hand of the enemy and from ambushes by the way. 32 (Q)We came to Jerusalem, and there we remained three days. 33 On the fourth day, within the house of our God, the silver and the gold and the vessels were (R)weighed into the hands of (S)Meremoth the priest, son of Uriah, and with him was Eleazar the son of Phinehas, and with them were the Levites, (T)Jozabad the son of Jeshua and Noadiah the son of (U)Binnui. 34 The whole was counted and weighed, and the weight of everything was recorded.

35 At that time (V)those who had come from captivity, the returned exiles, offered burnt offerings to the God of Israel, (W)twelve bulls for all Israel, ninety-six rams, seventy-seven lambs, and as a sin offering twelve male goats. All this was a burnt offering to the Lord. 36 (X)They also delivered the king's commissions to the king's (Y)satraps[d] and to the governors of the province Beyond the River, and they aided the people and the house of God.

Ezra Prays About Intermarriage

After these things had been done, the officials approached me and said, “The people of Israel and the priests and the (Z)Levites have not separated themselves from the peoples of the lands (AA)with their abominations, from the (AB)Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites. (AC)For they have taken some of their daughters to be wives for themselves and for their sons, so that the (AD)holy race[e] has (AE)mixed itself with the peoples of the lands. And in this faithlessness the hand of the officials and chief men has been foremost.” As soon as I heard this, I (AF)tore my garment and my cloak and pulled hair from my head and beard and (AG)sat appalled. Then all who (AH)trembled at the words of the God of Israel, because of the faithlessness of the returned exiles, gathered around me while I sat (AI)appalled until the evening sacrifice. And at the (AJ)evening sacrifice I rose from my fasting, with my garment (AK)and my cloak torn, and fell upon my knees (AL)and spread out my hands to the Lord my God, saying:

“O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift my face to you, my God, for our iniquities (AM)have risen higher than our heads, and our (AN)guilt has (AO)mounted up to the heavens. (AP)From the days of our fathers to this day we have been in great (AQ)guilt. And for our iniquities we, our kings, and our priests have been given into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, to plundering, (AR)and to utter shame, as it is today. But now for a brief moment favor has been shown by the Lord our God, to leave us a (AS)remnant and to give us a (AT)secure hold[f] within his holy place, that our God may (AU)brighten our eyes and grant us a little reviving in our slavery. (AV)For we are slaves. Yet our God has not forsaken us in our slavery, (AW)but has extended to us his steadfast love before the kings of Persia, to grant us some reviving to set up the house of our God, to repair its ruins, and to give us protection[g] in Judea and Jerusalem.

10 “And now, O our God, what shall we say after this? For we have forsaken your commandments, 11 which you commanded by your servants the prophets, saying, ‘The land that you are entering, to take possession of it, is a land impure with the impurity of the peoples of the lands, with their abominations that have filled it from end to end with (AX)their uncleanness. 12 (AY)Therefore do not give your daughters to their sons, neither take their daughters for your sons, and never seek their peace or prosperity, that you may be strong and eat the good of the land (AZ)and leave it for an inheritance to your children forever.’ 13 And after all that has come upon us for our evil deeds and for (BA)our great guilt, seeing that you, our (BB)God, have punished us less than our iniquities deserved and have given us such a (BC)remnant as this, 14 shall we break your commandments again and (BD)intermarry with the peoples who practice these abominations? Would you not be angry with us (BE)until you consumed us, so that there should be no (BF)remnant, nor any to escape? 15 O Lord, the God of Israel, you are just, for we are left a (BG)remnant that has escaped, as it is today. Behold, we are before you in our (BH)guilt, (BI)for none can stand before you because of this.”

1 Corinthians 5

Sexual Immorality Defiles the Church

It is actually reported that there is (A)sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that is not tolerated even among pagans, (B)for a man has his father's wife. And (C)you are arrogant! Ought you (D)not rather to mourn? Let him who has done this be removed from among you.

For though (E)absent in body, I am present in spirit; and as if present, I have already pronounced judgment on the one who did such a thing. When you are assembled (F)in the name of the Lord Jesus and my spirit is present, with the power of our Lord Jesus, you are (G)to deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so (H)that his spirit may be saved (I)in the day of the Lord.[a]

(J)Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that (K)a little leaven leavens the whole lump? Cleanse out the old leaven that you may be a new lump, as you really are unleavened. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. Let us therefore celebrate the festival, (L)not with the old leaven, (M)the leaven of malice and evil, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

I wrote to you in my letter (N)not to associate with sexually immoral people— 10 (O)not at all meaning (P)the sexually immoral of this world, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters, (Q)since then you would need to go out of the world. 11 But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone (R)who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler—not even to eat with such a one. 12 For what have I to do with judging (S)outsiders? (T)Is it not those inside the church[b] whom you are to judge? 13 God judges[c] those outside. (U)“Purge the evil person from among you.”

Psalm 31:1-8

Into Your Hand I Commit My Spirit

To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.

31 (A)In you, O Lord, do I (B)take refuge;
(C)let me never be put to shame;
in your (D)righteousness deliver me!
Incline your ear to me;
rescue me speedily!
Be (E)a rock of (F)refuge for me,
a strong fortress to save me!

For you are my rock and my fortress;
and for your (G)name's sake you lead me and guide me;
you (H)take me out of (I)the net they have hidden for me,
for you are my (J)refuge.
(K)Into your hand I commit my spirit;
you have redeemed me, O Lord, (L)faithful God.

I (M)hate[a] those who pay (N)regard to worthless (O)idols,
but I trust in the Lord.
I will rejoice and be glad in your steadfast love,
because you have seen my affliction;
you have (P)known the distress of my soul,
and you have not (Q)delivered me into the hand of the enemy;
you have set my feet in (R)a broad place.

Proverbs 21:1-2

21 The king's heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord;

but the Lord (C)weighs the heart.

Ezra 7:1-8:20, 1 Corinthians 4:1-21, Psalms 30:1-12, Proverbs 20:28-30

Today is the 8th day of August welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I’m Brian it is great to be here with you and welcome to the end of the week. Another one of our weeks is quickly becoming a part of our history as…as is prone to happen when you’re day by day, step-by-step moving forward on the journey that we’re on. So, today’s the last day of the week. We’ve been reading from the Christian Standard Bible all this week, which is what we’ll do today. And we’ll continue our journey in these new books that…a book and letter that we’ve gotten ourselves involved in with this week, the book of Ezra and the letter to the Corinthians, known as first Corinthians. So, Ezra chapter 7 verse 1 through 8:20

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word, we thank You for another week together in Your word. And often we reach this point where we’ve concluded another week and we just release it week, we release the week to You. It’s a part of our past. It’s a part of our history. And yet what we carry forward is Your guidance and leadership and direction that comes from Your word. We carry those things forward cumulatively, week after week after week after week. We carry these things forward and they go deep inside of us and they…they plant a crop. And we ask Holy Spirit that You come and yield the fruit of the spirit in our lives because of this. And every week we recognize that an ending is a new beginning and that You are there present with us in it all. And, so, we release this week to You and we invite Your Holy Spirit to lead us forward in the name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hey Daily Audio Bible community this is Meagan ___. Currently I am engaged to a man that I love with all my heart but I know that I am in sin and I know that living with him outside of marriage is sin and I don’t want to do that anymore and I want to have the courage and the strength that it takes to tell him that I need space and we need to get counseling first before we get married. And the quarantine is a perfect time for us to postpone because everybody else is expecting it. But I don’t have the guts on my own or the strength of my own ability to just be honest with him and not crumble when he manipulates my words and says, “why do we need counseling, what’s it gonna do?” I need help and I can’t do it alone and no matter how hard I try I constantly feel like I am swimming in the deepest waters by myself. And I don’t know what to do because if I do this then I have no home, no car, and a job that’s miles away from my original home and I don’t want to be stranded just because I want to follow God. So, please Daily Audio Bible can you pray for me? Thanks. I hope you all are blessed by God. Love you. Bye.

Good morning family it is 3 o’clock in the morning on August 5th this is Brave from New Jersey I’m calling you because I’m…I’m tried and been calling on the Lord from Psalm 35 all night long asking Him to show up and to defend me against numerous attacks from the enemy. My children cannot be grateful for anything that I’ve done for them. They have no respect for me, and they are following the wrong leadership from their father, persecuting me for no reason. And I pray that the Lord will come through for me according to Psalm 35 and defend me as He as promised. I am only looking up to Him because I don’t know what peace will look like. I don’t know what respect. But only the deliverance of the Lord. So please family pray for me. In Jesus…

Hi DAB family this is Gigi from Gainesville I called in yesterday asking for prayer regarding my health seizures and having to sleep all day because of them…headaches. Praise God! I woke up at 5 AM this morning and I just felt led to worship Him and one hour later I’m outside running 2 miles. All pain is gone, all headache, fatigue. In the name of Jesus, I’ve been set free. By his blood by his power I’ve overcome. Thank you for your prayers. I am rejoicing. God’s promises are true and faithful, and we can trust in Him. I have a prayer request for my sister. She’s dealing with acute loneliness because our father was her biggest friend and he died just a month ago and she wasn’t repaired at all for his death. She’s been very much in denial and she doesn’t make friends easily. Also, her job is incredibly intense right now. They have her floating to different floors. And, so, she…she’s dealing with a lot of overwhelming sadness and great pain. So, if you guys could be praying for her and my other sister who’s turning to her first job as a teacher. She’s got her bachelor’s in early childhood education and I’m so proud of her, but she really needs to get a job. It’s getting close, so. Thank you, guys so much. Power and prayer is amazing God hears us.

Hi everyone, I’ve had these thoughts for a while, and I’ve been thinking about this time that we’ve been in and I feel like it’s the wilderness. A lot of us have been launched into wilderness in this strange limbo time applying to jobs or losing jobs or not knowing what’s gonna happen. And I think this is a great opportunity to see, “what are we doing right now?” Are we praising God or are we grumbling and complaining and crying where our food is gonna come from? And if we are getting food, are we crying about what kind of food we are getting? Now is a really good opportunity if you are in the wilderness to see if I am doing what the Israelites did or, am I just trusting in the Lord? And I know it’s hard. I mean, I kinda was in the situation where my master’s was ending, and I was looking for a job and searching for a job during a pandemic is definitely a scary thing. But you know what? I had faith in God and that if He could split oceans, He could send me multiple job options during a pandemic and that’s what He did. He did that for me, and it took…was months of insecurity before that happened. But I just want you to think about what you are doing now and remember to stay in faith and your promised land is not that far away. That’s all. Bye.

Hi DAB family this is Sierra from Arizona. I’m calling for couple different reasons. I wanted to pray for the woman who called in, she said that her daughter was molested by a couple family members. I want to pray for her. I know what that’s like because I’ve been there, and I just want to say that she probably needs you and she’ll be needing you for a long time. So, I wanted to pray for you and just…I hope that everything works out. The other reason I’m calling is because I need prayer. I am in a fight against addiction. I’m still a teenager and I know this is sort of normal because a teenage girl but I’m in addiction to all sexual things. So, I in the past have had problems, major problems, with that and I’ve done things and have had things done to me that have helped in my addiction and I’ve been in this fight for a very, very long time. I’ve never entirely been away from it and I’m doing my best not to give in but it’s really, really hard. I’ve failed in the past and I’m really afraid that I’ll fail again and I hate it and I hate that I love it and I need your prayers because I don’t ever want to travel that road again because that road hurt and it’s not bad…it’s not good. And anyway, I just need your prayer …

This is Angie from Virginia this…I just wanted to say to Addicted to Christ, you have been on my heart and my prayers. I heard your message and it just broke my heart. Just know that God’s got this, and He is gonna hold you through this and just cradle you and protect you. So, just hang in there. He created you with purpose and He will reveal that to you. Just stay strong in His word and He will take over and just work miracles in your life. And also, I am asking for prayer from my Daily Audio Bible family. I am a registered nurse and I’ve been on the front lines fighting COVID and let me tell you this has been such a terrifying journey and I could have never have made it without God helping me through this. But I’m just asking guys to pray for me that God will put His protection on me and just cover me and keep me safe during this pandemic and also that He would keep my family safe. Thank you so much and you guys have a blessed day.

Ezra 7:1-8:20

Ezra’s Arrival

After these events, during the reign of King Artaxerxes(A) of Persia, Ezra—

Seraiah’s(B) son, Azariah’s son,

Hilkiah’s(C) son, Shallum’s son,

Zadok’s(D) son, Ahitub’s son,

Amariah’s son, Azariah’s son,

Meraioth’s son, Zerahiah’s son,

Uzzi’s son, Bukki’s son,

Abishua’s son, Phinehas’s son,

Eleazar’s son, the chief priest Aaron’s son(E)

—came up from Babylon. He was a scribe skilled in the law of Moses,(F) which the Lord, the God of Israel, had given. The king had granted him everything he requested(G) because the hand of the Lord his God was on him.(H) Some of the Israelites, priests, Levites, singers, gatekeepers, and temple servants(I) accompanied him to Jerusalem in the seventh year of King Artaxerxes.

Ezra[a] came to Jerusalem in the fifth month, during the seventh year of the king. He began the journey from Babylon on the first day of the first month(J) and arrived in Jerusalem on the first day of the fifth month(K) since the gracious hand of his God was on him.(L) 10 Now Ezra had determined in his heart to study the law of the Lord, obey it, and teach(M) its statutes and ordinances in Israel.

Letter from Artaxerxes

11 This is the text of the letter King Artaxerxes gave to Ezra the priest and scribe, an expert in matters of the Lord’s commands and statutes for Israel:[b]

12 Artaxerxes, king of kings,(N) to Ezra the priest, an expert in the law of the God of the heavens:

Greetings.

13 I issue a decree that any of the Israelites in my kingdom, including their priests and Levites, who want to go to Jerusalem, may go with you.(O) 14 You are sent by the king and his seven counselors(P) to evaluate Judah and Jerusalem according to the law of your God, which is in your possession. 15 You are also to bring the silver and gold the king and his counselors have willingly given to the God of Israel,(Q) whose dwelling is in Jerusalem,(R) 16 and all the silver and gold you receive throughout the province of Babylon, together with the freewill offerings given by the people and the priests to the house of their God in Jerusalem.(S) 17 Then you are to be diligent to buy with this money bulls, rams, and lambs, along with their grain and drink offerings, and offer them on the altar at the house of your God in Jerusalem.(T) 18 You may do whatever seems best to you and your brothers with the rest of the silver and gold, according to the will of your God. 19 Deliver to the God of Jerusalem all the articles given to you for the service of the house of your God.(U) 20 You may use the royal treasury[c] to pay for anything else needed for the house of your God.(V)

21 I, King Artaxerxes, issue a decree to all the treasurers in the region west of the Euphrates River:(W)

Whatever Ezra the priest, an expert in the law of the God of the heavens, asks of you must be provided in full,(X) 22 up to 7,500 pounds[d] of silver, 500 bushels[e] of wheat, 550 gallons[f] of wine, 550 gallons of oil, and salt without limit.[g] 23 Whatever is commanded by the God of the heavens must be done diligently for the house of the God of the heavens, so that wrath will not fall on the realm of the king and his sons.(Y) 24 Be advised that you do not have authority to impose tribute, duty, and land tax on any priests, Levites, singers, doorkeepers, temple servants, or other servants of this house of God.

25 And you, Ezra, according to[h] God’s wisdom that you possess, appoint magistrates and judges to judge all the people in the region west of the Euphrates who know the laws of your God and to teach anyone who does not know them.(Z) 26 Anyone who does not keep the law of your God and the law of the king, let the appropriate judgment be executed against him, whether death, banishment, confiscation of property, or imprisonment.(AA)

27 Blessed be the Lord, the God of our ancestors, who has put it into the king’s mind(AB) to glorify the house of the Lord in Jerusalem,(AC) 28 and who has shown favor to me before the king,(AD) his counselors, and all his powerful officers. So I took courage because I was strengthened by the hand of the Lord my God,[i](AE) and I gathered Israelite leaders to return with me.(AF)

from Bigvai’s descendants,

and 70 men with them.

15 I gathered them at the river[n] that flows to Ahava,(AM) and we camped there for three days. I searched among the people and priests, but found no Levites(AN) there. 16 Then I summoned the leaders: Eliezer, Ariel, Shemaiah, Elnathan, Jarib, Elnathan, Nathan, Zechariah, and Meshullam,(AO) as well as the teachers Joiarib and Elnathan. 17 I sent them to Iddo, the leader at Casiphia, with a message for[o] him and his brothers, the temple servants(AP) at Casiphia, that they should bring us ministers for the house of our God. 18 Since the gracious hand of our God was on us,(AQ) they brought us Sherebiah(AR)—a man of insight from the descendants of Mahli, a descendant of Levi son of Israel—along with his sons and brothers, 18 men, 19 plus Hashabiah,(AS) along with Jeshaiah, from the descendants of Merari, and his brothers and their sons, 20 men. 20 There were also 220 of the temple servants,(AT) who had been appointed by David and the leaders for the work of the Levites. 1 Corinthians 4

The Faithful Manager

A person should think of us in this way: as servants(A) of Christ and managers(B) of the mysteries of God.(C) In this regard, it is required that managers be found faithful.(D) It is of little(E) importance to me that I should be judged(F) by you or by any human court.[a] In fact, I don’t even judge myself. For I am not conscious of anything against myself, but I am not justified(G) by this. It is the Lord who judges me. So don’t judge(H) anything prematurely, before the Lord comes,(I) who will both bring to light what is hidden in darkness and reveal the intentions of the hearts. And then praise will come to each one from God.(J)

The Apostles’ Example of Humility

Now, brothers and sisters,(K) I have applied these things to myself and Apollos(L) for your benefit, so that you may learn from us the meaning of the saying: “Nothing beyond what is written.” The purpose is that none of you will be arrogant, favoring one person over another. For who makes you so superior? What do you have that you didn’t receive? If, in fact, you did receive it, why do you boast as if you hadn’t received it? You are already full! You are already rich! You have begun to reign as kings without us—and I wish you did reign, so that we could also reign with you! For I think God has displayed us, the apostles, in last place, like men condemned to die: We have become a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to people. 10 We are fools for Christ, but you are wise in Christ!(M) We are weak, but you are strong! You are distinguished, but we are dishonored! 11 Up to the present hour we are both hungry and thirsty; we are poorly clothed, roughly treated, homeless; 12 we labor, working(N) with our own hands.(O) When we are reviled, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it; 13 when we are slandered, we respond graciously. Even now, we are like the scum of the earth, like everyone’s garbage.(P)

Paul’s Fatherly Care

14 I’m not writing this to shame you, but to warn you as my dear children.(Q) 15 For you may have countless instructors in Christ, but you don’t have many fathers. For I became your father(R) in Christ Jesus through the gospel. 16 Therefore I urge you to imitate me. 17 This is why I have sent(S) Timothy to you. He is my dearly loved and faithful(T) child in the Lord. He will remind you about my ways in Christ Jesus, just as I teach everywhere in every church.

18 Now some are arrogant, as though I were not coming to you. 19 But I will come to you soon,(U) if the Lord wills, and I will find out not the talk, but the power of those who are arrogant. 20 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power. 21 What do you want? Should I come to you with a rod,(V) or in love and a spirit of gentleness?(W)

Psalm 30

Psalm 30

Joy in the Morning

A psalm; a dedication song for the house. Of David.

I will exalt you, Lord,
because you have lifted me up(A)
and have not allowed my enemies
to triumph over me.(B)
Lord my God,
I cried to you for help, and you healed me.(C)
Lord, you brought me up from Sheol;(D)
you spared me from among those
going down[a] to the Pit.(E)

Sing to the Lord, you his faithful ones,
and praise his holy name.(F)
For his anger lasts only a moment,
but his favor, a lifetime.
Weeping may stay overnight,
but there is joy in the morning.(G)

When I was secure, I said,
“I will never be shaken.”(H)
Lord, when you showed your favor,
you made me stand like a strong mountain;(I)
when you hid your face, I was terrified.(J)
Lord, I called to you;
I sought favor from my Lord:(K)
“What gain is there in my death,
if I go down to the Pit?
Will the dust praise you?
Will it proclaim your truth?(L)
10 Lord, listen and be gracious to me;
Lord, be my helper.”(M)

11 You turned my lament into dancing;
you removed my sackcloth
and clothed me with gladness,(N)
12 so that I can sing to you and not be silent.
Lord my God, I will praise you forever.(O)

Proverbs 20:28-30

28 Loyalty and faithfulness guard a king;
through loyalty he maintains his throne.

Ezra 4:24-6:22

Rebuilding of the Temple Resumed

24 Now the construction of God’s house in Jerusalem had stopped and remained at a standstill until the second year of the reign of King Darius of Persia.(A)

But when the prophets Haggai and Zechariah son of Iddo(B) prophesied to the Jews who were in Judah and Jerusalem, in the name of the God of Israel who was over them, Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and Jeshua son of Jozadak(C) began to rebuild God’s house in Jerusalem. The prophets of God(D) were with them, helping them.

At that time Tattenai the governor of the region west of the Euphrates River, Shethar-bozenai, and their colleagues(E) came to the Jews and asked, “Who gave you the order to rebuild this temple and finish this structure?” [a](F) They also asked them, “What are the names of the workers[b] who are constructing this building?” But God was watching[c] over(G) the Jewish elders. These men wouldn’t stop them until a report was sent to Darius, so that they could receive written instructions about this matter.

The Letter to Darius

This is the text of the letter that Tattenai the governor of the region west of the Euphrates River, Shethar-bozenai, and their colleagues, the officials in the region, sent to King Darius. They sent him a report, written as follows:

To King Darius:

All greetings.

Let it be known to the king that we went to the house of the great God in the province of Judah. It is being built with cut[d] stones, and its beams are being set in the walls. This work is being done diligently and succeeding through the people’s efforts.(H) So we questioned the elders and asked, “Who gave you the order to rebuild this temple and finish this structure?” 10 We also asked them for their names, so that we could write down the names of their leaders for your information.

11 This is the reply they gave us:

We are the servants of the God of the heavens and earth, and we are rebuilding the temple that was built many years ago, which a great king of Israel built and finished.(I) 12 But since our ancestors angered the God of the heavens, he handed them over to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, the Chaldean, who destroyed this temple and deported the people to Babylon.(J) 13 However, in the first year of King Cyrus of Babylon, he issued a decree to rebuild the house of God.(K) 14 He also took from the temple in Babylon the gold and silver articles of God’s house that Nebuchadnezzar had taken from the temple in Jerusalem and carried them to the temple in Babylon.(L) He released them from the temple in Babylon to a man named Sheshbazzar, the governor by the appointment of King Cyrus.(M) 15 Cyrus told him, “Take these articles, put them in the temple in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be rebuilt on its original site.”(N) 16 Then this same Sheshbazzar came and laid the foundation of God’s house in Jerusalem.(O) It has been under construction from that time until now,(P) but it has not been completed.

17 So if it pleases the king, let a search of the royal archives[e] in Babylon be conducted to see if it is true that a decree was issued by King Cyrus to rebuild the house of God in Jerusalem.(Q) Let the king’s decision regarding this matter be sent to us.(R)

Darius’s Search

King Darius gave the order, and they searched(S) in the library of Babylon in the archives.[f](T) But it was in the fortress of Ecbatana in the province of Media(U) that a scroll was found with this record written on it:

In the first year of King Cyrus, he issued a decree(V) concerning the house of God in Jerusalem:

Let the house be rebuilt as a place for offering sacrifices, and let its original foundations be retained.[g] Its height is to be ninety feet[h] and its width ninety feet,(W) with three layers of cut[i] stones and one of timber.(X) The cost is to be paid from the royal treasury.[j](Y) The gold and silver articles of God’s house that Nebuchadnezzar took from the temple in Jerusalem and carried to Babylon must also be returned. They are to be brought to the temple in Jerusalem where they belong[k] and put into the house of God.(Z)

Darius’s Decree

Therefore, you must stay away from that place, Tattenai governor of the region west of the Euphrates River, Shethar-bozenai, and your[l] colleagues, the officials in the region.(AA) Leave the construction of the house of God alone. Let the governor(AB) and elders of the Jews rebuild this house of God on its original site.

I hereby issue a decree concerning what you are to do, so that the elders of the Jews can rebuild the house of God:

The cost is to be paid in full to these men out of the royal revenues(AC) from the taxes of the region west of the Euphrates River, so that the work will not stop. Whatever is needed—young bulls, rams, and lambs for burnt offerings to the God of the heavens, or wheat, salt, wine, and oil, as requested by the priests in Jerusalem—let it be given to them every day without fail,(AD) 10 so that they can offer sacrifices of pleasing aroma to the God of the heavens and pray for the life of the king and his sons.(AE)

11 I also issue a decree concerning any man who interferes with this directive:

Let a beam be torn from his house and raised up; he will be impaled on it, and his house will be made into a garbage dump because of this offense.(AF) 12 May the God who caused his name to dwell there(AG) overthrow any king or people who dares[m] to harm or interfere with this house of God in Jerusalem. I, Darius, have issued the decree. Let it be carried out diligently.

13 Then Tattenai governor of the region west of the Euphrates River, Shethar-bozenai, and their colleagues(AH) diligently carried out what King Darius had decreed. 14 So the Jewish elders continued successfully with the building under the prophesying of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah son of Iddo.(AI) They finished the building according to the command of the God of Israel and the decrees of Cyrus,(AJ) Darius, and King Artaxerxes(AK) of Persia. 15 This house was completed on the third day of the month of Adar(AL) in the sixth year of the reign of King Darius.

Temple Dedication and the Passover

16 Then the Israelites, including the priests, the Levites, and the rest of the exiles, celebrated the dedication of the house of God with joy. 17 For the dedication of God’s house they offered one hundred bulls, two hundred rams, and four hundred lambs, as well as twelve male goats(AM) as a sin offering for all Israel—one for each Israelite tribe. 18 They also appointed the priests by their divisions and the Levites by their groups to the service of God in Jerusalem, according to what is written in the book of Moses.(AN)

19 The exiles(AO) observed the Passover(AP) on the fourteenth day of the first month. 20 All of the priests and Levites were ceremonially clean, because they had purified themselves. They killed the Passover lamb for themselves, their priestly brothers, and all the exiles.(AQ) 21 The Israelites who had returned from exile(AR) ate it, together with all who had separated themselves from the uncleanness of the Gentiles of the land[n](AS) in order to worship the Lord, the God of Israel. 22 They observed the Festival of Unleavened Bread for seven days(AT) with joy, because the Lord had made them joyful, having changed the Assyrian king’s attitude toward them, so that he supported them[o] in the work on the house of the God of Israel.(AU)

1 Corinthians 3:5-23

The Role of God’s Servants

What then is Apollos? What is Paul? They are servants through whom you believed, and each has the role the Lord has given. I planted,(A) Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So, then, neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. Now he who plants and he who waters are one,[a] and each will receive his own reward according to his own labor. For we are God’s coworkers.[b] You are God’s field, God’s building.(B)

10 According to God’s grace that was given to me, I have laid a foundation as a skilled master builder,[c] and another builds on it. But each one is to be careful how he builds on it. 11 For no one can lay any foundation(C) other than what has been laid down. That foundation is Jesus Christ. 12 If anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver,(D) costly stones,(E) wood, hay, or straw, 13 each one’s work will become obvious. For the day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire;(F) the fire will test the quality of each one’s work.(G) 14 If anyone’s work that he has built survives, he will receive a reward. 15 If anyone’s work is burned up, he will experience[d] loss, but he himself will be saved(H)—but only as through fire.(I)

16 Don’t you yourselves know that you are God’s temple(J) and that the Spirit of God lives in you?(K) 17 If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him;(L) for God’s temple is holy,(M) and that is what you are.

The Folly of Human Wisdom

18 Let no one deceive(N) himself. If anyone among you thinks he is wise in this age,(O) let him become a fool(P) so that he can become wise.(Q) 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness(R) with God, since it is written,(S) He catches the wise in their craftiness;[e](T) 20 and again, The Lord knows that the reasonings(U) of the wise are futile.[f](V) 21 So let no one boast in human leaders, for everything is yours(W) 22 whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas(X) or the world or life(Y) or death(Z) or things present or things to come(AA)—everything is yours, 23 and you belong to Christ,(AB) and Christ belongs to God.

Psalm 29

Psalm 29

The Voice of the Lord

A psalm of David.

Ascribe to the Lord, you heavenly beings,[a]
ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;
worship the Lord
in the splendor of his holiness.[b](A)

The voice of the Lord is above the waters.
The God of glory thunders—
the Lord, above the vast water,(B)
the voice of the Lord in power,
the voice of the Lord in splendor.(C)
The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars;
the Lord shatters the cedars of Lebanon.(D)
He makes Lebanon skip like a calf,(E)
and Sirion, like a young wild ox.(F)
The voice of the Lord flashes flames of fire.(G)
The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness;
the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.(H)
The voice of the Lord makes the deer give birth[c](I)
and strips the woodlands bare.(J)
In his temple all cry, “Glory!”

10 The Lord sits enthroned over the flood;
the Lord sits enthroned, King forever.(K)
11 The Lord gives his people strength;(L)
the Lord blesses his people with peace.(M)
