Ezekiel 16:43-17:24, Hebrews 8:1-13, Psalms 106:13-31, Proverbs 27:7-9

Today is the 7th day of November. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian and its a pleasure and brings much joy to be here with you today and I hope the same is true for you because we’ve come together to take the next step forward and continue our journey through the Scriptures and continue our journey through the 11th month of the year. So we’re reading from the Names of God Bible this week and back out into the book of Ezekiel…I almost said Isaiah…Ezekiel we go, chapter 16 verse 42 through chapter 17 verse 24 today.

Commentary:

Okay. So, as we spend our time in the book of Hebrews today we were also spending a bunch of our time in the book of Jeremiah. And, as odd as that sounds, it’s actually totally true. The longest quotation from the Old Testament found in the New Testament is found in Hebrews chapter 8, which we read today and it’s a quote from Jeremiah chapter 31, which we read just recently. So why? Why such a long quotation from Jeremiah 31 in the book of Hebrews? What’s this all about? Ok. We have to state what we’ve been stating since we began the book of Hebrews. Hebrews was written by Hebrews for Hebrews, right? So, the Hebrew or the Jewish context is absolutely foundational. And to see this all we have to do is imagine, like we did yesterday, what reading the book of Hebrews would be like if there was nothing called the Old Testament, right? If there’s nothing called the Old Testament and we’re reading the book of Hebrews, it would make no sense whatsoever. And that’s not even like pointing out the cultural nuances in the book. So, understanding that this is the entire premise and it’s from a Hebrew perspective helps us understand why the systematic evidence being laid out about the new covenant and a new high priest matters, right? We just take this stuff kind of for granted because it’s part of our faith and it’s always been around us, this terminology, but if we had no Old Testament or had no experience whatsoever with the Old Testament then we would have no context whatsoever for a new covenant or a new high priest. So, the writer of Hebrews quoted at length from Jeremiah because Jeremiah’s prophecy foretold a coming new covenant. So, I ,mean, when Hebrews was written Jeremiah’s prophecy was 700 years old but it wasn’t forgotten and wasn’t unknown. And devout Hebrew people knew what was being talked about. The writer of Hebrews was revealing that the new covenant established by God through the work of Christ had been something that was foretold long, long ago and shouldn’t come as a surprise. It’s what they’d been waiting for. So, Hebrews is explaining that the people who follow Jesus weren’t trying to make up a new religion that they just kind of created out of whole cloth and fabricated. Rather, they were announcing the inauguration of this new covenant because, and I’m quoting from Hebrews here, if nothing had been wrong with the first promise no one would look for another one. So, in terms of the covenant, priests…and we read all this in the Mosaic law as it was being laid out…priests served on behalf of the people in order to fulfill what they understood the obligations of the covenant to require. But according Hebrews, they serve…and we’re quoting here…they serve at a place that is a pattern, a shadow of what is in heaven. So, if a new covenant were in fact being instituted or inaugurated by God himself, then it would need to be presided over by a new high priest. So again, quoting from Hebrews, we do have this kind of chief priest. This chief priest has received the highest position, the throne of Majesty in heaven. He serves as priest of the holy place and of the true tent set up by the Lord and not by any human. So, as modern believers living 2000 years removed from this and who are predominantly Gentile, we can look at these intricate arguments and formulas being made in Hebrews as just like something very tedious and highly theological. But for a devout first century Jew these teachings were so revolutionary that most of them simply could not get their minds around it and embrace the idea that God was doing something new in the world through a suffering Messiah. So, the point of the book of Hebrews or this letter to the Hebrews wasn’t to be persuasive in talking Hebrew people out of their faith. I mean, it’s absolutely the opposite of that. It was to reveal Jesus to Jewish people as the foretold next step in their faith. So, Hebrews reveals the ongoing Hebrew story within the context of what God was in inviting his people into. The copy or shadow of the old promise or covenant was being replaced by an unbroken and unblemished new covenant or promise that was to be presided over by a sinless high priest in heaven and that is Jesus. So, in the Hebrew context this would have been almost too good to be true. To be told that sin was no longer an issue and that the law that permeated society and continually made everyone feel like they were failing, that had been fulfilled. So, like, to get their minds around this is to monumental for most of them, but it had been foretold. And other things are foretold as well. And, so, we’ll end our talk about this today with Hebrews quoting from Jeremiah about the implications, about the future that we are all longing to see. No longer will each person teach his neighbors or his relatives by saying know the Lord. All of them from the least important of the most important will all know Me because I will forgive their wickedness and I will no longer hold their sins against them.

Prayer:

Father, we look back through time and see that this was revolutionary, and we can very easily take this for granted, but it is no less revolutionary today. To think that our sins are forgiven, that we have been washed clean, that we have been grafted into Your family and adopted, that we are part of the family of God, that we are children of the most-high. Yes Lord, that’s almost too good to be true. And yet it quickens our Spirits. We come awake when we hear these words because something very deep and ancient inside of us knows that this is true. So, come Holy Spirit, continue to reveal all truth to us as we continue to walk forward into life with You. We ask these things in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hello, this is Kim calling also from the rolling hills of Tennessee and I just wanted to call and state to Kat from Denver regarding your son Philip. Your message this morning, I believe it was played yesterday the 2nd, today’s the 3rd , just broke my heart, just broke my heart because I can relate. And Kat, I just want to pray over you and Phillip. And girl, I would love for us to pray for one another as moms. If you will keep my son Taylor in your prayers. I know what you’re going through and just want to lift you up girl. Dear heavenly Father, we just thank You Lord for giving us these sons that You have entrusted us with Lord. Father, I pray for Philip dear God. Lord, I pray that You would just envelop him with Your love and Your presence, Father. I pray that he would not doubt that You are right there with him God. Father, I pray for his protection while he is there Father. Lord, I pray against just the stigma that goes on in prison that I know undoubtedly that Kat has thought about, and I have thought about. And Lord, we just worry over our children, but we’re reminded just how much more You love them Father. Lord, I pray for Philip and he would be seen and be given the contacts that he needs to be able to see Father. And I pray more than anything that he sees how You love him. Father, please send ministers into this prison Father to speak truth and love in his life…

This is joyful J from the Everglades with everlasting gratitude for the everlasting love of Jesus. The first day of hearing Brian read the Scriptures was Christmas day of 2008. I just recently started listening to the prayer requests however. Hmmm. And my mamma’s heart has quickly been knitted to the mothers who have broken hearts for their children. This gives me hope that love prevails. Melody Faith, I was a prodigal child. Through the unconditional love of believers, I learned to receive the love of Jesus. They were the only Bible I was reading at the time. My prayer for your son is for him to remember the sweet taste of grace and to learn to receive the loving guidance of the Holy Spirit. I pray he will be put in a pinball machine of believers at every bump and every turn. My dear Melody Faith know that God runs for his lost children even when they are far off. To Sharee, I heard your prayer from October 27th. Your request for your oldest son. What a blessing you are to him. I know how hard it is to be on the sidelines as our children enter adulthood and find the journey full at times. It is incredibly encouraging that he shared his heart with you. Again, love always prevails. My prayer for your son Sharee is for his focus to change, for him to see the great opportunity before him, and for his eyes to open to the other lonely Christians on his campus. He is not alone. I pray that your son will receive the boldness, strength, and courage that is waiting for him as he learns to hear the Holy Spirit and to learn to follow his prompting. Lord, I lift up all the mothers whose hearts are broken for the children…

Daily Audio Bible family this is Sean from Texas and I’m calling because I am having open heart surgery to repair a valve and I covet your prayers for that. Longtime listener. This is my first time to call but I have been extremely blessed as has my family by this program for many things for years. And God bless this ministry, Brian, Jill, and everybody around our global campfire. It is truly a blessing to many. God bless.

Hello Daily Audio Bible family, this is Candace from Oregon. Ahhh…you are so beloved of the Lord Jesus. We are His bride and He loves us more than we can begin to understand. I want to share something I felt really prompted to say. And this is for people who have lost someone to death, which I, of course you all know, I did lose my husband in March 2017. And it was just only, oh I’m gonna say six weeks later, I was playing the piano for the entire worship service. And thank goodness that particular service it was fairly easy music to play and so I wasn’t overly involved technically, mentally. And it was a communion Sunday. And right before communion we did a prayer of confession. And there was a moment of silence to confess your own sins to the Lord. So, I’m sitting there at the piano bench and silently I said, Jesus, I confess that I am really angry. And the Lord Jesus, it was not audible, but it was as real as though it were an audible voice and He said to me, I don’t need to forgive you for that. I’m angry too. And just know that the Lord hates death. He hates it. When His friends who were really upset because Lazarus died, He cried too. He hates death. So, just know that He’s right there with you and He will heal your heart and He has conquered death.

The Daily Audio Bible Reading for Wednesday November 7, 2018 (NIV)

Ezekiel 16:42-17:24

42 Then I will rest from my fury against you, and I will stop being angry. I will be at peace. I will no longer be angry.

43 “‘You didn’t remember the time when you were young, and you made me very angry with all these things. So I will pay you back for what you have done, declares Adonay Yahweh. Didn’t you make wicked plans in addition to all your disgusting practices?

44 “‘Everyone who uses proverbs will speak the following saying against you: Like mother, like daughter. 45 You are your mother’s daughter. She rejected her husband and her children. You are exactly like your sisters. They rejected their husbands and their children. Your mother was a Hittite, and your father was an Amorite.

46 “‘Your older sister was Samaria. She and her daughters lived north of you. Your younger sister is Sodom. She lives south of you with her daughters. 47 You didn’t follow their ways. You didn’t do the same disgusting things that they did. It only took you a little time to be more corrupt than they ever were. 48 As I live, declares Adonay Yahweh, your sister Sodom and her daughters never did what you and your daughters have done. 49 This is what your sister Sodom has done wrong. She and her daughters were proud that they had plenty of food and had peace and security. They didn’t help the poor and the needy. 50 They were arrogant and did disgusting things in front of me. So I did away with them when I saw this.

51 “‘Samaria didn’t commit half the sins you did. You have done many more disgusting things than they ever did. Because of all the disgusting things that you have done, you make your sisters look innocent. 52 You will have to suffer disgrace because you accused your sisters. Yet, your sins are more disgusting than theirs. They look like they are innocent compared to you. Be ashamed of yourself and suffer disgrace, because you have made your sisters look like they are innocent.

53 “‘I will restore the fortunes of Sodom and her daughters, and Samaria and her daughters. I will also restore your fortune along with theirs. 54 You will have to suffer disgrace and be ashamed of everything you have done, including comforting them. 55 When Sodom and her daughters and Samaria and her daughters return to what they once were, you and your daughters will return to what you once were. 56 You didn’t mention your sister Sodom when you were arrogant. 57 You didn’t mention her before your wickedness was revealed. Now the daughters of Aram[a] and their neighbors despise you. The daughters of the Philistines also despise you. Those around you hate you. 58 You must suffer because of all the crude and disgusting things you have done, declares Yahweh.

59 “‘This is what Adonay Yahweh says: I will give you what you deserve. You despised your marriage vows and rejected my promise.[b] 60 I will remember the promise that I made with you when you were young, and I will make it a promise that will last forever. 61 Then you will remember what you have done. You will be ashamed when I return your older and younger sisters to you. I will give them to you as daughters, but not because of my promise with you. 62 Then I will make my promise with you, and you will know that I am Yahweh. 63 You will remember and be ashamed. You will never again open your mouth because of your disgrace when I forgive you for everything you did, declares Adonay Yahweh.’”

Judah Is Compared to a Tree

17 Yahweh spoke his word to me. He said, “Son of man, tell this riddle. Give this illustration to the nation of Israel. Say, ‘This is what Adonay Yahweh says: A large eagle came to Lebanon. It had large wings with long, colorful feathers. It took hold of the top of a cedar tree. It broke off the highest twig and carried it to a country of merchants. It planted the twig in a city of merchants.

“‘Then it took a seedling from that country and planted the seedling in fertile soil. The eagle planted the seedling like a willow where there was plenty of water. The plant sprouted and grew into a low vine that spread over the ground. Its branches turned upward toward the eagle, but its roots grew downward. So it became a vine, producing branches and growing shoots.

“‘There was another large eagle with large wings and many feathers. Now, the vine stretched its roots toward this eagle and sent its branches toward the eagle so that the eagle could water it. The vine turned away from the garden where it was planted. It was planted in good soil beside plenty of water so that it could grow branches, bear fruit, and become a wonderful vine.’

“Tell the nation of Israel, ‘This is what Adonay Yahweh says: Will this vine live and grow? Won’t the first eagle uproot it and tear off its fruit? Then it will wither. All the leaves on its branches will wither. It won’t take much strength or many people to pull the vine up by its roots. 10 It might be planted again, but will it live and grow? It will wither completely when the east wind blows on it. It will certainly wither in the garden where it is growing.’”

11 Yahweh spoke his word to me. He said, 12 “Ask these rebellious people, ‘Don’t you know what this means?’ Tell them, ‘The king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and captured its king and its leaders. He brought them home with him to Babylon. 13 Then he took someone from the royal family, made a treaty with him, and made him promise to be loyal. He took away the leading citizens from Judah 14 so that it would remain a humiliated country and be unable to regain its power. The country could only survive by keeping the treaty. 15 But the king of Judah rebelled against the king of Babylon by sending his messengers to Egypt to get horses and many soldiers. Will the king of Judah succeed? Will anyone who does such things escape? He can’t break a treaty and go unpunished.

16 “‘As I live, declares Adonay Yahweh, the king of Judah will die in Babylonia. He will die in the country of the king who appointed him king of Judah. The king of Judah broke his promise and his treaty with the king of Babylon. 17 Even with a large army and many people, Pharaoh will not be able to help him in battle when the Babylonians put up dirt ramps and set up blockades to kill many people. 18 The king of Judah broke the promise and the treaty that he pledged to keep. He did all these things, and he can’t go unpunished.

19 “‘So this is what Adonay Yahweh says: As I live, I will certainly punish you for rejecting my promise and hating my treaty. 20 I will spread my net over you to catch you in my trap. I will take you to Babylon and judge you there for rebelling against me. 21 The best of your troops will die in battle. Anyone who remains will be scattered in every direction that the wind blows. Then you will know that I, Yahweh, have spoken.

22 “‘This is what Adonay Yahweh says: I, too, will take hold of the top of a cedar tree. I will break off the highest twig and plant it on a high and lofty mountain. 23 I will plant it on a high mountain in Israel. It will grow branches and produce fruit. It will become a magnificent cedar tree. Every kind of bird will nest in it and find a home in the shelter of its branches. 24 Then all the trees in the field will know that I am Yahweh. I cut down tall trees, and I make small trees grow tall. I dry up green trees, and I make dry trees grow. I, Yahweh, have spoken, and I will do it.’”

Hebrews 8

Jesus’ Priestly Work Is Superior to Other Priests’ Work

The main point we want to make is this: We do have this kind of chief priest. This chief priest has received the highest position, the throne of majesty in heaven. He serves as priest of the holy place and of the true tent set up by the Lord and not by any human.

Every chief priest is appointed to offer gifts and sacrifices. Therefore, this chief priest had to offer something. If he were on earth, he would not even be a priest. On earth other priests offer gifts by following the instructions that Moses gave. They serve at a place that is a pattern, a shadow, of what is in heaven. When Moses was about to make the tent, God warned him, “Be sure to make everything based on the plan I showed you on the mountain.”

Yeshua has been given a priestly work that is superior to the Levitical priests’ work. He also brings a better promise[a] from God that is based on better guarantees. If nothing had been wrong with the first promise, no one would look for another one. But God found something wrong with his people and said to them,

“The days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new promise to Israel and Judah. It will not be like the promise that I made to their ancestors when I took them by the hand and brought them out of Egypt. They rejected that promise, so I ignored them, says the Lord. 10 But this is the promise that I will make to Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put my teachings inside them, and I will write those teachings on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. 11 No longer will each person teach his neighbors or his relatives by saying, ‘Know the Lord.’ All of them from the least important to the most important will all know me 12 because I will forgive their wickedness and I will no longer hold their sins against them.”

13 God made this new promise and showed that the first promise was outdated. What is outdated and aging will soon disappear.

Psalm 106:13-31

13 They quickly forgot what he did.
They did not wait for his advice.
14 They had an unreasonable desire for food in the wilderness.
In the desert they tested El.
15 He gave them what they asked for.
He also gave them a degenerative disease.

16 In the camp certain men became envious of Moses.
They also became envious of Aaron, Yahweh’s holy one.
17 The ground split open and swallowed Dathan.
It buried Abiram’s followers.
18 A fire broke out among their followers.
Flames burned up wicked people.

19 At Mount Horeb they made a statue of a calf.
They worshiped an idol made of metal.
20 They traded their glorious God[a]
for the statue of a bull that eats grass.
21 They forgot El, their savior,
the one who did spectacular things in Egypt,
22 miracles in the land of Ham,
and terrifying things at the Red Sea.
23 El said he was going to destroy them,
but Moses, his chosen one, stood in his way
to prevent him from exterminating them.

24 They refused to enter the pleasant land.
They did not believe what he said.
25 They complained in their tents.
They did not obey Yahweh.
26 Raising his hand, he swore
that he would kill them in the wilderness,
27 kill their descendants among the nations,
and scatter them throughout various lands.

28 They joined in worshiping the god Baal while they were at Peor,
and they ate what was sacrificed to the dead.
29 They infuriated Yahweh by what they did,
and a plague broke out among them.
30 Then Phinehas stood between Yahweh and the people,
and the plague was stopped.
31 Because of this, Phinehas was considered righteous forever,
throughout every generation.

One who is full despises honey,
but to one who is hungry,

but the sweetness of a friend is a fragrant forest.[a]

Ezekiel 14:12-16:42, Hebrews 7:18-28, Psalms 106:1-12, Proverbs 27:4-6

Today is the 6th day of November, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I’m Brian. It is a pleasure, as it is every single day to be here with you as we take the next step forward. So, let’s dive in and take that next step forward. We’re reading from the Names of God Bible this week. And off we go back into the book of Ezekiel chapter 14 verse 12 and we’ll read all the way to chapter 16 verse 41 today.

Commentary:

Okay. So, in the book of Ezekiel we came to one of the most riveting passages of Scripture that, at least to me, in the whole Bible. It’s one of the reasons Jill and I named our son Ezekiel. There’s a couple passages in this book that…yeah…that are just…some of the most powerful imagery in the Bible. And, so, what comes up today is the opportunity for us to consider the emotional life of God. And I’m even saying that, the emotional life of God. Right? That should be disruptive cause we don’t usually think of God in those terms. Like, does God have an emotional life? Does He even have emotions? Right? I mean when we cry out to God, we may pour out our heart with emotion and we may feel like He’s receiving that emotion and maybe offering comfort but most of the emotion in the relationship is our emotion, right? I mean, after all, God is God. He doesn’t feel things, right? He just forgives us and we just all move on because He’s too perfect to experience any kind of distress. But let’s pause on that thought for a second. I mean, even if we just look at it logically. We wouldn’t be reading the Bible if God were aloof, right? The Bible wouldn’t exist if He didn’t care. And we’ve come far enough into the Scriptures to know that God is not…he’s anything but dispassionate, right? He’s very passionate and passion is an emotional thing. So, we’ve been hearing warning prophecies for a while now. We’ve heard of the terrible struggle that’s out in front of the people who won’t return to the one that they entered into covenant with, which is God, of course. And, so, we read the 16th chapter of Ezekiel and the entire chapter reveals God’s emotional heart in such a distinct story that it’s hard not to pay attention because it gives us context from God’s perspective for what the prophets were foretelling. So, the story was of a newborn baby girl and she represents God’s people. And she was unloved from the moment she was born and without even being held by a parent or even wiped off. She was left out in a field to die. And God came by and saw this little baby girl wo hadn’t even had her umbilical cord cut. And she’s just laying there in the field helplessly kicking in her own blood. That image alone for me…for me…that image alone is powerful. I can’t read this passage of Scripture without, you know, without my heart going out. So, God comes by and sees her and according to the Scriptures, God came by and looked at her laying there and said live. And as that story continues then the infant baby girl grew to become a lovely young woman under God’s care. And then God entered into the covenant of marriage with her and he lavished the finest of all things upon her and her beauty was unparalleled. In God’s own words, you were very beautiful and eventually you became a queen, but her beauty began to get noticed and she liked…she liked the attention, she liked getting noticed. And before long, she not only committed adultery, she was prostituting herself. And to make matters worse, she was taking all of the lavish gifts that she’d been given and using those gifts to worship the gods of her lovers. And again, in God’s own word, such things shouldn’t happen, they shouldn’t occur. I mean this has become such a story of ungratefulness, right? But we’re not done. So, reading from Ezekiel 16 in God’s own words, you took your sons and daughters who belonged to me and you sacrificed them as food to idols. Wasn’t your prostitution enough? You slaughtered my children and presented them as burnt offerings to idols. With all the disgusting things that you did and all your acts of prostitution, you didn’t remember the time when you were young. You didn’t remember when you were naked and bare kicking around in your own blood. How horrible. How horrible it will be for you declares Adonay Yahweh. So, if you’ve ever wondered whether or not God feels anything at all, that should be put to rest. And from the perspective of God we can see why he would send the prophets, and why he would send them to say the things that they said, right? Rather than trying to bring doom, God was trying to call His people back and get them to remember and try to get them smacked awake, so they could see what they were doing. But they didn’t listen. And as we know, sorrow did come upon them. If we look at ourselves as the little baby girl in the story, we might find that our story is uncomfortably familiar, and it should be incredibly humbling because now…now we know how…now we know how God feels. And if that changes things then maybe it’s time for an honest conversation. There’s no doubt that God is listening and there is no doubt that he is inviting us to come back.

Lyrics - http://www.lyricshall.com/lyrics/Gungor/Ezekiel

I found you naked
I found you lying there in blood
Your mother left you
Your father threw you out unloved

I clothed your body
I washed the blood and earth from your hair
I gave you jewelry
I gave you everything I had

I gave my heart
My heart, my love
I gave my heart
My heart, my love

You became mine
You were a stunning bride
The world they saw you and how you loved their eyes my bride

You broke my heart
My heart, my love
You broke my heart
My heart, my love

You sold your body exposed yourself to all my love
You slept with strangers; you gave them everything we had

Come back my love
My love come back
Come back my love
My love come back

The Daily Audio Bible Reading for Tuesday November 6, 2018 (NIV)

Ezekiel 14:12-16:41

12 Yahweh spoke his word to me. He said, 13 “Son of man, suppose a country sins against me by being unfaithful to me. I will use my power against it, cut off its food supply, send a famine to it, and destroy its people and animals. 14 Even if these three men—Noah, Daniel, and Job—were in that country, they would, by their righteousness, rescue only themselves,” declares Adonay Yahweh.

15 “Suppose I send wild animals through that country and they make it childless and turn it into such a wasteland that no one travels through it because of the animals. 16 As I live, declares Adonay Yahweh, not even Noah, Daniel, and Job could rescue their own sons or daughters. They could rescue only themselves. And the country would become a wasteland.

17 “Suppose I bring a war against that country by saying, ‘I will let a war go throughout this country.’ Suppose I destroy the people and the animals in it. 18 As I live, declares Adonay Yahweh, not even Noah, Daniel, and Job could rescue their sons or daughters. They could rescue only themselves.

19 “Suppose I send a plague into that country or pour out my fury on it by killing people and destroying animals. 20 As I live, declares Adonay Yahweh, not even Noah, Daniel, and Job could, by their righteousness, rescue their sons or daughters. They could rescue only themselves.

21 “This is what Adonay Yahweh says: I will surely send four terrible punishments against Jerusalem. I will send wars, famines, wild animals, and plagues. They will destroy people and animals. 22 But some people will survive. Some of your sons and daughters will be brought out. When they come out to you, you will see how they live. Then you will be comforted after the disasters that I will bring on Jerusalem, after every disaster that I will bring against it. 23 You will be comforted when you see how they live. Then you will know that everything I have done was done for a reason,” declares Adonay Yahweh.

Jerusalem Is Compared to Wood from a Wild Vine

15 Yahweh spoke his word to me. He said, “Son of man, what good is the wood from a vine? Is it better than the wood from a tree in the forest? Do people use it to make something? Do they make a peg from it to hang things on? No! It is only thrown into the fire as fuel. The fire burns up both its ends and chars its middle. Then can it be used to make anything? When the vine was in perfect condition, it couldn’t be made into anything. How can it be used to make anything after the fire has burned and charred it?

“So this is what Adonay Yahweh says: As a vine is taken from among the trees in the forest to be used to feed the fire, so I will take the people who live in Jerusalem to punish them. I will turn against the people of Jerusalem. Even though they have escaped one fire, another fire will burn them. Then they will know that I am Yahweh, because I will turn against them. I will turn the country into a wasteland because they have been unfaithful,” declares Adonay Yahweh.

A Description of Jerusalem’s Sins

16 Yahweh spoke his word to me. He said, “Son of man, make known to the people of Jerusalem the disgusting things they have done. Tell them, ‘This is what Adonay Yahweh says to the people of Jerusalem: Your birthplace and your ancestors were in the land of the Canaanites. Your father was an Amorite, and your mother was a Hittite. When you were born, your umbilical cord wasn’t cut. You weren’t washed with water to make you clean. You weren’t rubbed with salt or wrapped in cloth. No one who saw you felt sorry enough for you to do any of these things. But you were thrown into an open field. You were rejected when you were born.

“‘Then I went by you and saw you kicking around in your own blood. I said to you, “Live.” I made you grow like a plant in the field. You grew up, matured, and became a young woman. Your breasts developed, and your hair grew. Yet, you were naked and bare.

“‘I went by you again and looked at you. You were old enough to make love to. So I spread my robe over you, and covered your naked body. I promised to love you, and I exchanged marriage vows with you. You became mine, declares Adonay Yahweh.

“‘Then I bathed you with water, and I washed off your blood. I poured olive oil over you. 10 I put an embroidered dress on you and fine leather sandals on your feet. I dressed you in fine linen and covered you with silk. 11 I gave you jewelry. I put bracelets on your wrists and a necklace around your neck. 12 I put a ring in your nose, earrings on your ears, and a beautiful crown on your head. 13 So you wore gold and silver jewelry. You were dressed in fine linen, silk, and embroidered clothes. Your food was flour, honey, and olive oil. You were very beautiful, and eventually you became a queen. 14 You became famous in every nation because of your beauty. Your beauty was perfect because I gave you my glory, declares Adonay Yahweh.

15 “‘But you trusted your beauty, and you used your fame to become a prostitute. You had sex with everyone who walked by. 16 You took some of your clothes and made your worship sites colorful. This is where you acted like a prostitute. Such things shouldn’t happen. They shouldn’t occur. 17 You took your beautiful gold and silver jewelry that I had given you and made male idols for yourself. Then you committed adultery with them. 18 You took off your embroidered clothes and covered the idols with them. You offered my olive oil and incense in their presence. 19 You also offered them sweet and fragrant sacrifices. You gave flour, olive oil, and honey—all the food that I gave you to eat. This is what happened, declares Adonay Yahweh.

20 “‘You took your sons and daughters, who belonged to me, and you sacrificed them as food to idols. Wasn’t your prostitution enough? 21 You slaughtered my children and presented them as burnt offerings to idols. 22 With all the disgusting things that you did and all your acts of prostitution, you didn’t remember the time when you were young. You didn’t remember when you were naked and bare, kicking around in your own blood.

23 “‘How horrible! How horrible it will be for you! declares Adonay Yahweh. After all your wickedness, 24 you built yourself platforms and illegal worship sites in every city square. 25 You also built worship sites at the head of every street. You used your beauty to seduce people there. You offered your body to everyone who passed by. You increased your acts of prostitution. 26 You had sex with your lustful neighbors, the Egyptians. You used your prostitution to make me angry.

27 “‘So I used my power against you. I took away some of your land, and I handed you over to your greedy enemies, the Philistines, who were ashamed of what you had done.

28 “‘You had sex with the Assyrians because you weren’t satisfied. You still weren’t satisfied. 29 So you increased your acts of prostitution to include the land of the merchants, the Babylonians. Even after that, you weren’t satisfied.

30 “‘You have no will power! declares Adonay Yahweh. You do everything a shameless prostitute does. 31 You build your platforms at the head of every street and place your illegal worship sites in every square. Yet, you aren’t like other prostitutes, because you don’t want to be paid. 32 You are an adulterous wife who prefers strangers to her husband. 33 All prostitutes get paid. But you give gifts to all your lovers and bribe them to come to you from all directions to have sex with you. 34 You are a different kind of prostitute. No one goes after you for favors. You are the opposite. You pay them, and you don’t accept payment.

Jerusalem’s Punishment

35 “‘Listen to the word of Yahweh, you prostitute. 36 This is what Adonay Yahweh says: You exposed yourself and uncovered your naked body when you gave yourself to your lovers and to all your disgusting idols. You also killed your children and sacrificed their blood to these idols. 37 That is why I will gather all your lovers with whom you found pleasure. I will have all those who love you and hate you gather around. I will uncover your body for them, and they will see you naked. 38 I will punish you the same way that those who are guilty of prostitution and murder are punished. I will give you the death penalty in my fury and burning anger. 39 I will hand you over to your lovers. They will destroy your platforms and tear down your illegal worship sites. They will tear off your clothes, take away your beautiful jewelry, and leave you naked and bare. 40 They will also bring a mob against you. They will stone you and cut you into pieces with their swords. 41 They will burn your houses and punish you in the presence of many women. I will put an end to your prostitution, and you will no longer pay others.

Hebrews 7:18-28

18 The former requirements are rejected because they are weak and useless. 19 Moses’ Teachings couldn’t accomplish everything that God required. But we have something else that gives us greater confidence and allows us to approach God.

20 None of this happened without an oath. The men from the tribe of Levi may have become priests without an oath, 21 but Yeshua became a priest when God took an oath. God said about him, “The Lord has taken an oath and will not change his mind. You are a priest forever.” 22 In this way Yeshua has become the guarantee of a better promise.[a]

23 There was a long succession of priests because when a priest died he could no longer serve. 24 But Yeshua lives forever, so he serves as a priest forever. 25 That is why he is always able to save those who come to God through him. He can do this because he always lives and intercedes for them.

26 We need a chief priest who is holy, innocent, pure, set apart from sinners, and who has the highest position in heaven. 27 We need a priest who doesn’t have to bring daily sacrifices as those chief priests did. First they brought sacrifices for their own sins, and then they brought sacrifices for the sins of the people. Yeshua brought the sacrifice for the sins of the people once and for all when he sacrificed himself. 28 Moses’ Teachings designated mortals as chief priests even though they had weaknesses. But God’s promise, which came after Moses’ Teachings, designated the Son who forever accomplished everything that God required.

Psalm 106:1-12

Psalm 106

Hallelujah!

Give thanks to Yahweh because he is good,
because his mercy endures forever.
Who can speak about all the mighty things Yahweh has done?
Who can announce all the things for which he is worthy of praise?
Blessed are those who defend justice
and do what is right at all times.

Remember me, O Yahweh, when you show favor to your people.
Come to help me with your salvation
so that I may see the prosperity of your chosen ones,
find joy in our people’s happiness,
and brag with the people who belong to you.

We have sinned, and so did our ancestors.
We have done wrong.
We are guilty.
When our ancestors were in Egypt,
they gave no thought to your miracles.
They did not remember your numerous acts of mercy,
so they rebelled at the sea, the Red Sea.

He saved them because of his reputation
so that he could make his mighty power known.
He angrily commanded the Red Sea, and it dried up.
He led them through deep water as though it were a desert.
10 He rescued them from the power of the one who hated them.
He rescued them from the enemy.
11 Water covered their adversaries.
Not one Egyptian survived.
12 Then our ancestors believed what he said.
They sang his praise.

Proverbs 27:4-6

Wounds made by a friend are intended to help,
but an enemy’s kisses are too much to bear.[a]

Ezekiel 12:1-14:11, Hebrews 7:1-17, Psalms 105:37-45, Proverbs 27:3

Today is the 5th day of November. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I’m Brian. It’s great to be here with you today as we launch into our work week together. So glad that we can spend a few moments orienting ourselves to God and allowing God’s word to speak to us as we head into this part of the week. So, we’re reading from the Names of God Bible this week. Ezekiel chapter 12 verse 1…I sound like I was calling my son. I hear myself in headphones. My son’s name is Ezekiel…so it’s like E-ze-kiel. Anyway, Ezekiel chapter 12 verse 1 through 14 verse 11 today.

Commentary:

Okay. So, in the book of Hebrews today we read of a man named Melchizedek.  And I remember going into this last year, we spent several days on this. We won’t do that this year but we will try to figure out who Melchizedek is and why he’s important. And this brings up something else that’s important. Hebrews is written to Hebrews, right? And I have already said it a number of times and probably will continue to say that a number of times because, even though we can go like, dah, okay, got it, it is so important to this book. This is a Hebrew context of Jesus and His mission and what He has done. And, so, it’s brought in through a Hebrew religious context, right? I mean if we’re Gentiles, which most of us are Gentiles and we never knew anything whatsoever about Judaism, we never had any context for the Torah, we’ve never read the Old Testament, we’ve never read the New Testament for that matter, right? We just opened up the book and we start reading about some high priest name Melchizedek and how Jesus blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, right? We have no idea what’s going on. However, if you’re a first century Hebrew and these terms and terminology and discussions theologically are brought up, you do understand what’s going on. Your life has been shaped by these things. So, since the writer of Hebrews made a direct correlation between Melchizedek and Jesus, we should at least explore he was. The interesting thing is once you open up the cover of that book the myth and the lore around him would take hours…hours to begin to unpack. And since we don’t have a time for that let’s just look at what connects the dots between this obscure person who is mentioned twice in the Old Testament and then suddenly appears and materializes in Hebrews as a figure not unlike Jesus. So, Melchizedek first appears in the book of Genesis with Abram. And we read from Genesis chapter 14: And Melchizedek, the king of Salem and a priest of God most high brought Abram some bread and wine. Melchizedek blessed Abram with this blessing. Blessed to be Abram by God most high Creator of heaven and earth and blessed be God most high, who has defeated your enemies for you. Then Abram gave Melchizedek a tenth of all the goods he had recovered. Okay. So, that’s from the book of Genesis. And the only other time Melchizedek is mentioned in the Old Testament is in Psalm 110, which was composed by David. And it reads: The Lord has taken an oath and will not break his vow. You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek. Okay. So, we know that there was a significant span of time between Genesis and Psalms, right? Between Abraham and David. And then we also know that there’s a significant span of time between David and the first century book of Hebrews. So, we can deduce then that Melchizedek had longevity somehow. Like, he certainly captured the imagination of the Hebrew people over thousands of years, but this would have been extra biblically, which means it would’ve been traditions outside of what is captured in the Bible. And I say that because…because of the fact that outside of…what we are talking about now in the book of Hebrews…we just read everything there is to read in the Bible about Melchizedek. And, you know, even though he shows up with Abraham and even though David refers to him, which is no small thing. There’s not enough information there, right? Like to hold thousands of years of fascination. So, who Melchizedek was and why he’s important. This has been the topic of spectacular conjecture over the millennia and you literally…if you wanted to dive deep into…spend massive amounts of time following all the differing ideas. And you can do that that and it’s even interesting, but it will not bring us to the context of why Melchizedek shows up in Hebrews. So, let’s like stick to that thread. Melchizedek’s name, Melchizedek or Melchi Zedek means King of justice or righteousness. And he was the king of Salem according the book of Genesis or Salem, which means peace. So, he was the king of justice or righteousness and he was the king of peace according to Hebrews and he’s the very first priest of the most high God or El Elyon who shows up in the Bible. So, that fact alone would surely bring him notoriety, right? The very first priest of God that shows up in the Torah would be a person that was considered important. So, we could say then that Melchizedek was the first righteous priest of God most high, who was also the king of Salem or the king of peace. So, all of that can make perfect sense to us and we can even understand why people would be fascinated by Melchizedek, but how we connect these dots to Jesus. So, Melchizedek is fascinating because he’s a priest of the most high God. In fact, he’s the first priest of the most high God that we know about, but he was not a Levite. And the tribe of Levi was the tribe that God appointed under Moses to be set aside as his priests. Melchizedek couldn’t have been a Levite because Levi had not yet been born and his priesthood couldn’t have been contrary to Mosaic law because Moses had not yet been born. So, if we jump forward about a millennia from Genesis we come to King David’s reference in Psalm 110. And in David’s time the Mosaic law had certainly been given and priests were absolutely, and indeed only Levites; however, David was from the tribe of Judah. So, why did David get to be a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek? So, like we just said, Melchizedek was a priest of the most high God wo was also the king of Salem, which means that Melchizedek was a priestly king and David was king in Jerusalem. Jeru Salem, the same city. So, in Psalm 110 it appears that David was being set apart to be a priestly king like Melchizedek, regardless of his tribal affiliation or regardless of the Mosaic law. So, interpreting it like this, then the order of Melchizedek was a special exception. And Jesus came from the line of David. And according to the book of Hebrews, like to close that loop, Jesus is a priestly king in the order of Melchizedek, a king of peace or as the writer of Hebrews says it, that person is a priest, not because he met human requirements, but because he has power that comes from a life that cannot be destroyed. The Scriptures say the following about him: You are a priest forever in the way Melchizedek was a priest. So, I mean, you know, you can Google Melchizedek and you can go all day. So, there’s a lot more nuances to the story and the mythology surrounding Melchizedek, but this gives us like a basic context for what it is were reading in the book of Hebrews, why he shows up in the book of Hebrews and why it matters to our understanding of Jesus, especially as our great high priest, right? We can say Jesus is our great high priest all day long but if we do not understand that in a Hebrew perspective, which is what we‘re trying to do as we move through the Hebrew the book of Hebrews…I mean…then…it’s just kind of a lofty thing to say: Yes, Jesus is my great high priest. But we’ve never had any other kind of high priest so we don’t even really know what we’re talking about. And, so, this is why this…this is why we explore what we explore as we go through the Scriptures and this is why Melchizedek shows up in the book of Hebrews.

Prayer:

Father, we thank you for your word. We thank you for the life that it brings to us, the awareness, the revelations, the aha moments, and the way that it completely does an end run around our intellect and we can’t even think straight because you’ve just invaded our hearts and spoke something true that is beyond words. Your word has the power to do that Your word has the power to reach as deep as soul and spirit. And, so, we welcome that. Come Holy Spirit we pray. Ezekiel 12:1-14:11

Ezekiel Plays Out Israel’s Exile

12 Yahweh spoke his word to me. He said, “Son of man, you are living among rebellious people. They have eyes, but they can’t see. They have ears, but they can’t hear because they are rebellious people.

“Son of man, pack your bags as if you were going into exile. Let the people see you leave in the daylight. March like a captive from your place to another place as they watch. Maybe they will understand, even though they are rebellious people. Let them see you in the daylight. Bring out your bags as if you were going into exile. In the evening let them see you leave like a captive going into exile. Dig a hole through the wall of your house, and leave through it. Let them see you put your bags on your shoulders and carry them out in the dark. Cover your face so that you won’t see the land. I’ve made you a sign to warn the nation of Israel.”

I did what I was ordered to do. During the day I brought out bags as if I were going into exile. In the evening I dug a hole through the wall. I brought out my bags in the dark. I let the people see me as I carried my bags on my shoulders.

The next morning Yahweh spoke his word to me. He said, “Son of man, didn’t the rebellious nation of Israel ask you what you were doing?

10 “Tell them, ‘This is what Adonay Yahweh says: This is the divine revelation about the prince from Jerusalem and about all the people of Israel who live there.’

11 “Tell them, ‘I am your warning sign. What I have done will happen to you. You will go into exile and into captivity. 12 The prince who is among you will put his bags on his shoulders in the dark and leave. People will dig holes in the wall to go through. The prince will cover his face so that he cannot see the land. 13 I will spread my net over him, and he will be caught in my net. I will bring him to Babylon, the land of the Babylonians, but he will not see it. And that’s where he’ll die. 14 I will scatter in every direction all those who are around him—his staff and all his troops. I will pursue them with my sword. 15 Then they will know that I am Yahweh, because I will scatter them among the nations and force them into other countries. 16 However, I will spare a few of them from wars, famines, and plagues. Wherever they go among the nations, they will realize that everything they did was disgusting. Then they will know that I am Yahweh.’”

17 Yahweh spoke his word to me. He said, 18 “Son of man, shake as you eat your food. Tremble and be worried as you drink your water.

19 “Tell the people of this land, ‘This is what Adonay Yahweh says about the people who live in Jerusalem and in the land of Israel: They will be worried as they eat their food and terrified as they drink their water. Their country will be stripped of everything because everyone who lives there is violent. 20 The cities where people live will be destroyed, and the country will become a wasteland. Then they will know that I am Yahweh.’”

21 Yahweh spoke his word to me. He said, 22 “Son of man, what is this proverb you have in Israel: ‘Days go by, and every vision comes to nothing’?

23 “Tell the people, ‘This is what Adonay Yahweh says: I will put a stop to the use of this proverb. You will no longer quote it in Israel.’ Instead, tell them, ‘The time is near when every vision will come true. 24 There will no longer be any false visions or flattering fortunetelling to the people. 25 I, Yahweh, will speak. Everything that I say will happen without any more delay. I will say something, and it will happen during your lifetime, you rebellious people, declares Adonay Yahweh.’”

26 Yahweh spoke his word to me. He said, 27 “Son of man, the people of Israel are saying, ‘The vision that Ezekiel sees won’t happen for a long time. What he prophecies will happen in the distant future.’

28 “Tell them, ‘This is what Adonay Yahweh says: Everything that I say will no longer be delayed. Whatever I say will happen, declares Adonay Yahweh.’”

False Prophets Condemned

13 Yahweh spoke his word to me. He said, “Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel. Tell those who make up their prophecies, ‘Listen to the word of Yahweh.

“‘This is what Adonay Yahweh says: How horrible it will be for the foolish prophets. They follow their own ideas, and they have seen nothing. Israel, your prophets are like foxes among the ruins of a city. They haven’t repaired the gaps in the wall or rebuilt the wall for the nation of Israel. So Israel will not be protected in battle on the day of Yahweh. These foolish prophets see false visions, and their predictions don’t come true. They say, “Yahweh said this.” But Yahweh hasn’t sent them. Then they hope that their message will come true. Prophets of Israel, haven’t you seen false visions and predicted things that don’t come true? Don’t you say, “Yahweh said this,” even though I haven’t said anything?

“‘This is what Adonay Yahweh says: Your predictions are false, and your visions are lies. That is why I’m against you, declares Adonay Yahweh. I will use my power against the prophets who see false visions and predict things that don’t come true. They will not help my people make decisions or be recorded in the records of the nation of Israel. They won’t even enter Israel. Then you will know that I am Adonay Yahweh.

10 “‘They have deceived my people by saying that everything is alright, but it’s not alright. When someone builds a flimsy wall, the prophets cover it up with paint. 11 Tell those who cover up the wall with paint that their wall will fall down. Rain will pour down, hailstones will fall on it, and stormy winds will break it to pieces. 12 When the wall falls down, people will ask them, “Where’s the paint that you used to cover the wall?”

13 “‘This is what Adonay Yahweh says: In my fury I’ll cause a storm to break out. In my anger rain will pour down, and hailstones will destroy the wall. 14 I will tear down the wall that the prophets covered up with paint. I will level it and expose its foundation. When the wall falls, they will be destroyed by it. Then you will know that I am Yahweh. 15 I will unleash my fury on the wall and on those who covered it up with paint.

“‘Then I will say to you, “The wall is gone, and so are those who painted it. 16 The prophets of Israel who prophesied to Jerusalem are gone. Those who said that everything was alright, when it wasn’t alright, are gone, declares Adonay Yahweh.” ’

17 “Son of man, look at the women among your people who make up prophecies, and prophesy against them.

18 “Tell them, ‘This is what Adonay Yahweh says: How horrible it will be for women who sew magic charms for people’s wrists and make magic veils of every size for people’s heads. You want to trap people. You want to control the lives of my people for your own profit. 19 You dishonor me in front of my people for a few handfuls of barley and a few pieces of bread. You kill people who shouldn’t die, and you spare the lives of people who shouldn’t live. You lie to my people who are willing to listen.

20 “‘This is what Adonay Yahweh says: I’m against the magic charms that you use to trap people like birds. I will tear them from your arms and free the people that you have trapped. 21 I will tear off your magic veils and rescue my people from your power so that they will no longer be under your control. Then you will know that I am Yahweh. 22 You have discouraged righteous people with your lies, even though I hadn’t brought them any grief. You encouraged wicked people not to turn from their wicked ways to save their lives. 23 That is why you will no longer see false visions or make predictions. I will rescue my people from your power. Then you will know that I am Yahweh.’”

Idolaters Condemned

14 Some of Israel’s leaders came to me and sat down in front of me. Then Yahweh spoke his word to me. He said, “Son of man, these people are devoted to their idols, and they are allowing themselves to fall into sin. Should they be allowed to ask me for help?

“So speak to them. Tell them, ‘This is what Adonay Yahweh says: Suppose an Israelite is devoted to idols and allows himself to fall into sin. Suppose he goes to a prophet to ask for my help. I, Yahweh, will give that Israelite an answer, the answer that his many idols deserve. I will do this to recapture the hearts of the nation of Israel. They have deserted me because of their disgusting idols.’

“So tell the nation of Israel, ‘This is what Adonay Yahweh says: Change the way you think and act! Turn away from your idols, and don’t return to any of your disgusting things. Suppose an Israelite or a foreigner who lives in Israel deserts me by devoting himself to idols and by allowing himself to fall into sin. If he goes to a prophet to ask for my help, I, Yahweh, will give him an answer. I will reject him, and I will make an example of him. I will exclude him from my people. Then you will know that I am Yahweh.

“‘If a prophet is tricked into giving a prophecy, it is I, Yahweh, who tricked the prophet. I will use my power against you and destroy you from among my people Israel. 10 Both of you will suffer for your sins. The prophet will be as guilty as you are when you ask for his help. 11 Then the people of Israel will no longer wander away from me. They will no longer dishonor me with all their sins. Then they will be my people, and I will be their Elohim, declares Adonay Yahweh.’”

Hebrews 7:1-17

Christ Is Superior to Melchizedek

Melchizedek was king of Salem and priest of the Most High God. He met Abraham and blessed him when Abraham was returning from defeating the kings. Abraham gave Melchizedek a tenth of everything he had captured.

In the first place, Melchizedek’s name means king of righteousness. He is also called king of Salem (which means king of peace). No one knows anything about Melchizedek’s father, mother, or ancestors. No one knows when he was born or when he died. Like the Son of God, Melchizedek continues to be a priest forever.

You can see how important Melchizedek was. Abraham gave him a tenth of what he had captured, even though Abraham was the father of the chosen people. Moses’ Teachings say that members of the tribe of Levi who become priests must receive a tenth of everything from the people. The priests collect it from their own people, Abraham’s descendants. Although Melchizedek was not from the tribe of Levi, he received a tenth of everything from Abraham. Then Melchizedek blessed Abraham, who had God’s promises. No one can deny that the more important person blesses the less important person.

Priests receive a tenth of everything, but they die. Melchizedek received a tenth of everything, but we are told that he lives. We could even say that when Abraham gave Melchizedek a tenth of everything, Levi was giving a tenth of everything. Levi gave, although later his descendants would receive a tenth of everything. 10 Even though Levi had not yet been born, he was in the body of Abraham when Melchizedek met him.

11 The people established the Levitical priesthood based on instructions they received. If the work of the Levitical priests had been perfect, we wouldn’t need to speak about another kind of priest. However, we speak about another kind of priest, a priest like Melchizedek, not a Levitical priest like Aaron.

12 When a different kind of priesthood is established, the regulations for those priests are different. 13 The priest whom we are talking about was a member of a different tribe. No one from that tribe ever served as a priest at the altar. 14 Everyone knows that our Lord came from the tribe of Judah. Moses never said anything about priests coming from that tribe. 15 The regulations were different. This became clear when a different priest who is like Melchizedek appeared. 16 That person is a priest, not because he met human requirements, but because he has power that comes from a life that cannot be destroyed. 17 The Scriptures say the following about him: “You are a priest forever, in the way Melchizedek was a priest.”

Psalm 105:37-45

37 He brought Israel out with silver and gold,
and no one among his tribes stumbled.
38 The Egyptians were terrified of Israel,
so they were glad when Israel left.
39 He spread out a cloud as a protective covering
and a fire to light up the night.
40 The Israelites asked, and he brought them quail
and filled them with bread from heaven.
41 He opened a rock, and water gushed
and flowed like a river through the dry places.

42 He remembered his holy promise to his servant Abraham.
43 He brought his people out with joy,
his chosen ones with a song of joy.
44 He gave them the lands of other nations,
and they inherited what others had worked for
45 so that they would obey his laws
and follow his teachings.

Hallelujah!

Ezekiel 10:1-11:25, Hebrews 6:1-20, Psalms 105:16-36, Proverbs 27:1-2

Today is the 4th day of November. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I’m Brian. It’s great to be here with you and we turn [that was me, clapping my hands and rubbing together] we’re turning the knob, we’re walking through the threshold into a brand-new, sparkly week. This will be our first full week in this brand-new month, the 11th month of the year, also known as November. And this week we’ll read from the Names of God Bible. And, so, those of you who have been around while, we’ve read from this translation before. Those of you are new, here’s how this will read. It will read in English like we do every day here; however, we have to acknowledge that the Bible in its original language was not English. The Old Testament in its original form would’ve been in Hebrew and the New Testament in its original manuscripts are largely Greek. So, since these are the original languages when we refer to God we’ll be saying it in its original pronunciation as the original readers would have. So, for example, we say the name Jesus and that’s common and we understand what we’re talking about and yet probably not unfamiliar with the fact that if we pronounce this in Hebrew would be saying Yeshua. In the Old Testament there are many names for God, things like Jehovah or like Yahweh. So, when we come to one of those names in this translation we’ll have it in its original pronunciation. Other than that, we’ll be picking up where we left off yesterday, Ezekiel chapter 10 verse 1 through 11 verse 25 today.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word and we thank You for the brand-new week that we’re walking into. And we look forward in this week to all that You will speak to us through Your word as You do every week. And in advance, we invite Your Holy Spirit into every aspect, not only of what we might read in the Scriptures, but every aspect of our lives, every thought and intent of our hearts, every word that will form from those intents and intentions that will be spoken into the world this week, every action that we will take because of the intents of our heart. May they be pleasing to You. May they be in alignment with Your will and Your ways in our lives and in the world. May we walk with You in perfect union this week. May this be a great week in our relationship, one that we’ll remember. Come Holy Spirit we pray. In Jesus’ name we ask. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Father, in Your perfect will, not our will we know all is well. I ask that this prayer reaches out to the hearts and minds of those in need of the simple choice to open the door to Your heart and let Your greatest sacrifice, the gift of salvation, You’re one and only son inside today. Thank You Father, for answering this prayer already in and through our brother in Christ, Brian Hardin, his family, and all of Your faithful children of the most high God. Thank You, Father that You have them exactly where they are at this moment and every moment You have made in the Daily Audio Bible campfire. Thank You, Father for the joy that bubbles up inside this body of Christ connected here. I’ in awe daily. Father, thank You that we can and that we choose to lift up high into every area here on earth one another growing, blossoming and knowing the truth as a witness we are for all of Your creation to choose to believe. Strength of the living water flowing out like a little river here today all in the name of the most high God. Thank You, Father for Your mercy and for faith. In the name Your son Jesus Christ our Lord and our Savior. Amen.

Hello Daily Audio Bible family, this is Alfi calling from Delaware. It’s unbelievable that it’s already November. So, as a new month begins I have a prayer for everyone in this wonderful community. My prayer for each one of you is that, may the thoughts of doubt, the feelings of defeat, may all the entanglements of the evil one, and if there’s anything else that the devil puts in our hearts, may it be closed, may that chapter be closed. As we walk in the narrow path may we remember that God is a God of second chances. So, I pray the new doors of grace, many different opportunities for each one of you open up. May we believe in the faith of the __ that we are more than conquerors because we have Jesus on our side. May we also embrace the abilities and the talents that God has instilled in us because He has enabled us to live the life that He planned for us to live. May we embrace that. And it doesn’t matter how the year started or how the year has been for you. Yes, you may have failed along the way, made many mistakes, we all do. But I pray that we can finish strong this year and know that God still holds your hand no matter how you feel, no matter what circumstances that you face. Daily Audio Bible family, let us believe, let us walk in the light…

Hello Daily Audio Bible family. This is Cindy the Sinner from Seattle. I have that name because everybody remembers it. And I’ve been to a couple of Daily Audio Bible events this year. I went to the More conference and I went to the very first family reunion. And my praise report is that when you go your life will be so enriched by the people you meet. So, the praise is for all of those people I met. I am not going to rush down the list to say your name, but if you remember me, know that I have thought about you since I met you and you brought joy to my life at those events. So, thank you. I wanted to share with all of you a pervasive thought that I have had over the last few days. It’s whenever I’m looking at my phone I hear God’s voice telling me, please look up, you’re going to miss what I want to show you. So, I encourage all of you to take your eyes off your phone. I see people every day reading their phones everywhere. And I could argue that the phones for a lot of us have become an idol. And I also want to read this great quote from Role Doll, one of my favorite authors, which is, “and above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.” Role doll. So, every single day is a gift. And my new mantra is that every day God has new treasures in every day. And I get to find them and recollect them at the end of the day. And I wish all of you the best day and that you find many, many treasures. God, bless.

Hey everybody, this is Pelham from Birmingham right now because I live in Coleman but I work in Birmingham. I’m calling today because I need you all’s help. That’s why I always call but I don’t always say that. First though, I need to thank everybody out there that’s been praying for me. I always get into my call and I look at the clock, I’m like, nope, I’ve got eight seconds and I’m like, well I can’t think anybody because I’ve got about 237 people to thank I think. Melissa in Albertville I think it is, you’re in Alabama. I got to holler out to you girl. You’re awesome. You’re awesome. You make my days better. We’ve gone through this like a family, through Asia’s heart and walking with Asia through this and it’s been amazing to watch the community. And then to hear from Asia herself, how overwhelmed she is at the outpouring of support that she’s noticed and that we’ve all been a part of. It’s just a testimony right there to those of you who’ve been afraid a call and maybe you think your problem is too small or what you’re facing isn’t important or you’re not important. That right there, is your signal that you need to call that you need to reach out on Facebook, that you need to connect with the community because there’s something trying to keep you from doing it. So, I love you guys so much. My family needs your prayers. My wife needs your prayers, my son, I do, the pizza place needs  ya’lls prayers. We need Mr. Quick to make a move. That’s all I’m gonna say. My investor, I need a little bit more urgency, let’s put it that way because times going by and people need pizza. I serve the best pizza on earth and it’s a shame that I’m not open right now to do it. I need you all’s prayers. I covet them and I needed to tell you this stuff. Love you guys.

Ezekiel 10-11

The Glory of the Lord Leaves His Temple

10 As I looked at the dome over the heads of the angels,[a] I saw something that looked like a throne made of sapphire. Yahweh said to the person dressed in linen, “Go between the wheels under the angels, and fill your hands with burning coals. Then scatter them over the city.” So he went between the wheels as I watched.

The angels were standing on the south side of the temple as the person went. A cloud filled the inner courtyard. Yahweh’s glory rose from the angels to the entrance of the temple, the cloud filled the temple, and the brightness of Yahweh’s glory filled the courtyard. The sound of the angels’ wings was heard as far as the outer courtyard. It was like the sound of El Shadday when he speaks.

After Yahweh had commanded the person dressed in linen to take burning coals from between the wheels beside the angels, the person went in and stood beside one of the wheels. One of the angels reached into the fire that was between the angels and took out some coals. This angel put them in the hands of the person dressed in linen. The person took them and left.

The angels appeared to have what looked like human hands under their wings. As I looked, I saw four wheels beside the angels, one wheel beside each of the angels. The wheels looked like beryl. 10 All four wheels looked the same. Each was like a wheel within a wheel. 11 Whenever the angels moved, they moved in any of the four directions without turning as they moved. They always moved in the direction they faced without turning as they moved. 12 Their entire bodies, their backs, hands, wings, and wheels were covered with eyes. Each of the angels had a wheel. 13 I heard that the wheels were called the whirling wheels. 14 Each of the angels had four faces. The first was the face of an angel, the second was the face of a human, the third was the face of a lion, and the fourth was the face of an eagle.

15 The angels rose. These were the living creatures that I saw at the Chebar River. 16 When the angels moved, the wheels moved beside them. When the angels lifted their wings to rise from the ground, the wheels didn’t leave their side. 17 When the angels stood still, the wheels stood still. When the angels rose, the wheels rose with them. The spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels. 18 Then the glory of Yahweh left the temple’s entrance and stood over the angels. 19 The angels lifted their wings and rose from the ground. I was watching them as they left with the wheels beside them. The angels stood at the door to the east gate of Yahweh’s temple, and the glory of the Elohim of Israel was above them.

20 These are the living creatures that I saw under the Elohim of Israel at the Chebar River. I realized that they were angels. 21 Each had four faces and four wings, and under their wings were what looked like human hands. 22 Their faces looked exactly like the faces that I saw by the Chebar River. Each one went straight ahead.

Judgment on the Rulers of Israel

11 Then the Ruach lifted me and took me to the east gate of Yahweh’s temple. (It’s the gate that faces east.) Twenty-five men were at the entrance of the gate. I saw among them Azzur’s son Jaazaniah and Benaiah’s son Pelatiah. They were leaders of the people.

Then Yahweh said to me, “Son of man, these are the men who plan evil and give bad advice in this city. They say, ‘It’s almost time to rebuild homes. This city is a cooking pot, and we’re the meat.’ So prophesy against them. Prophesy, son of man.”

The Ruach Yahweh came to me and told me to say, “This is what Yahweh says: You are saying these things, nation of Israel. But I know what’s going through your mind. You have killed many people in this city and have filled its streets with corpses.

“So this is what Adonay Yahweh says: The corpses that you put in the middle of the city are the meat, and the city is the cooking pot. I will force you out of the city. You are afraid of swords, so I will bring swords to attack you, declares Adonay Yahweh. I will force you out of the city. I will hand you over to foreigners, and I will punish you. 10 You will die in battle. I will judge you at Israel’s borders. Then you will know that I am Yahweh. 11 The city will not be your cooking pot, and you will not be the meat in it. I will judge you at Israel’s borders. 12 Then you will know that I am Yahweh. You haven’t lived by my laws, and you haven’t obeyed my rules. You have followed the standards set by the nations around you.”

13 While I was prophesying, Benaiah’s son Pelatiah died.

I immediately bowed down and cried out, “Adonay Yahweh, will you completely destroy all the remaining people in Israel?”

The Lord’s Promise to Gather Israel from the Nations

14 Then Yahweh spoke his word to me. He said, 15 “Son of man, the people who live in Jerusalem are talking about your own relatives and about the entire nation of Israel. The people who live in Jerusalem say, ‘They are far away from Yahweh. This land has been given to us as our own property.’

16 “So tell them, ‘This is what Adonay Yahweh says: Although I sent them far away among the nations and scattered them among the countries, I have been their sanctuary for a little while among the countries where they’ve gone.’

17 “So tell them, ‘This is what Adonay Yahweh says: I will bring them together from the nations and gather them from the countries where I’ve scattered them. I will give them the land of Israel. 18 They will come and remove all the disgusting and detestable things that are there. 19 I will give them a single purpose and put a new spirit in them. I will remove their stubborn hearts and give them obedient hearts. 20 Then they will live by my laws and obey my rules. They will be my people, and I will be their Elohim. 21 But as for those whose minds are set on following detestable and disgusting idols, I will pay them back for what they have done, declares Adonay Yahweh.’”

The Glory of the Lord Leaves Jerusalem

22 Then the angels[b] raised their wings, with the wheels beside them. The glory of the Elohim of Israel was above them. 23 Yahweh’s glory left the middle of the city and stopped above the mountain east of the city.

24 In this vision from the Ruach Elohim, the Ruach lifted me and brought me to the exiles in Babylonia. Then the vision I saw left me.

25 I told the exiles everything Yahweh had shown me.

Hebrews 6

With this in mind, we should stop going over the elementary truths about Christ and move on to topics for more mature people. We shouldn’t repeat the basics about turning away from the useless things we did and the basics about faith in God. We shouldn’t repeat the basic teachings about such things as baptisms, setting people apart for holy tasks, dead people coming back to life, and eternal judgment. If God permits, we will do this.

Some people once had God’s light. They experienced the heavenly gift and shared in the Holy Spirit. They experienced the goodness of God’s word and the powers of the world to come. Yet, they have deserted Christ. They are crucifying the Son of God again and publicly disgracing him. Therefore, they cannot be led a second time to God.

God blesses the earth. So rain often falls on it, and it produces useful crops for farmers. However, if the earth produces thorns and thistles, it is worthless and in danger of being cursed. In the end it will be burned.

God Will Not Forget You

Dear friends, even though we say these things, we are still convinced that better things are in store for you and that they will save you. 10 God is fair. He won’t forget what you’ve done or the love you’ve shown for him. You helped his holy people, and you continue to help them. 11 We want each of you to prove that you’re working hard so that you will remain confident until the end. 12 Then, instead of being lazy, you will imitate those who are receiving the promises through faith and patience.

13 God made a promise to Abraham. Since he had no one greater on whom to base his oath, he based it on himself. 14 He said, “I will certainly bless you and give you many descendants.” 15 So Abraham received what God promised because he waited patiently for it.

16 When people take oaths, they base their oaths on someone greater than themselves. Their oaths guarantee what they say and end all arguments. 17 God wouldn’t change his plan. He wanted to make this perfectly clear to those who would receive his promise, so he took an oath. 18 God did this so that we would be encouraged. God cannot lie when he takes an oath or makes a promise. These two things can never be changed. Those of us who have taken refuge in him hold on to the confidence we have been given. 19 We have this confidence as a sure and strong anchor for our lives. This confidence goes into the holy place behind the curtain 20 where Yeshua went before us on our behalf. He has become the chief priest forever in the way Melchizedek was a priest.

Psalm 105:16-36

16 He brought famine to the land.
He took away their food supply.
17 He sent a man ahead of them.
He sent Joseph, who was sold as a slave.
18 They hurt his feet with shackles,
and cut into his neck with an iron collar.
19 Yahweh’s promise tested him through fiery trials
until his prediction came true.
20 The king sent someone to release him.
The ruler of nations set him free.
21 He made Joseph the master of his palace
and the ruler of all his possessions.
22 Joseph trained the king’s officers the way he wanted
and taught his respected leaders wisdom.

23 Then Israel came to Egypt.
Jacob lived as a foreigner in the land of Ham.
24 Yahweh made his people grow rapidly in number
and stronger than their enemies.
25 He changed their minds so that they hated his people,
and they dealt treacherously with his servants.
26 He sent his servant Moses, and he sent Aaron, whom he had chosen.
27 They displayed his miraculous signs among them
and did amazing things in the land of Ham.
28 He sent darkness and made their land dark.
They did not rebel against his orders.
29 He turned their water into blood
and caused their fish to die.
30 He made their land swarm with frogs,
even in the kings’ bedrooms.
31 He spoke, and swarms of flies and gnats
infested their whole territory.
32 He gave them hail and lightning
instead of rain throughout their land.
33 He struck their grapevines and fig trees
and smashed the trees in their territory.
34 He spoke, and countless locusts and grasshoppers came.
35 They devoured all the plants in the land.
They devoured the crops in the fields.
36 He killed all the firstborn sons,
the first ones born in the land when their fathers were young.

Proverbs 27:1-2

All about Life

27 Do not brag about tomorrow,
because you do not know what another day may bring.
Praise should come from another person and not from your own mouth,
from a stranger and not from your own lips.

Ezekiel 7:1-9:11, Hebrews 5:1-14, Psalms 105:1-15, Proverbs 26:28

Today is the 3rd day of November. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I’m Brian. It’s great to be here with you today as we come to the conclusion of another one of our weeks together. And I guess we can say we are fully moved into this 11th month of the year and day by day we will step our way through it as we continue through the Scriptures this year. We’ve been reading from the New Living Translation this week, which it’s still this week, so, we’ll do that today. Ezekiel chapter 7 verse 2 through 9:11 today.

Commentary:

Alright, let’s talk about the proverb that we read today for a second. So, when I was younger, you know,  when I was a teenager, you know, I would get myself into all kinds of things just trying to find my identity. And there would be times my father, and of course I’ve lost my father, you know, he’s been away from us for the last 16 years. And man…I sure wish I could hear him telling me things now. But then, and it echoes through my memory like it was yesterday, when he would observe this, when he would observe me taking a wrong path, he’d say, son nothing good can come from that. And that phrase that still lives on with me in his voice in my head pretty much describes the point of our proverb today. A lying tongue hates its victims and flattering words because ruin and nothing good will come from that. So, I mean, when we’re untruthful or we’re manipulative, even subtly, or we use insincere flattery to nudge a person into some kind of direction that we want them to go, it’s not true and ruin will come and affect everyone involved eventually and nothing good will come from that. So, I mean, so let’s me stark. Since the Proverbs are stark let’s be stark as we think about this. If we have a lying tongue, and by that I mean if we’re a person who’s willing to embellish or diminish or suppress the truth in order to manipulate someone or to protect ourselves or to save face then we have to pay attention. And in one way or another, this means that we all must pay attention deeply. According to the proverb, hate is where this all begins. So, you know, put that in your cup and stir around. In some way, if we’re willing to…if we’re willing to lie or we’re willing to manipulate, then in some way we are displaying hate toward the person we are lying to. And that is pretty heavy because for some of us, you know, reality is sort of porous and I we embellish stories all the time or make them bigger than they are or smaller than they are. I mean, like we’re constantly being untrue is the point. But according to the proverb, if we’re gonna engage in this kind of behavior and we’re gonna be untrue, we’re going to lie then there’s hate. And we hate the person were lying to. And when we use flattery to manipulate our way into someone else’s life for our own gain or for our own need, this is going to eventually cause ruin all the way around. So, it’s a tiny proverb. It’s just 11 words but it packs a massive punch. And if we’ll consider the implications of this proverb in light of our innermost thoughts, right, what’s really going on inside, and our in most desires then we can see how powerful a gift it is, the Proverbs, and how powerful of a gift it is, the Scriptures. And we can see how deeply they challenge us to be aware of the impact we’re having on each other.

Prayer:

Father, we invite you into that, what are the ways that we’re manipulating people for our own gain with false flattery, with manipulative nudging, with flat out lying? We acknowledge Lord, nothing good will come from that and we ask, Father, that you help us to walk away from these behaviors because nothing good will come from it. Come Holy Spirit lead us into all truth so that we are surrounded by the truth and walking in the truth and therefore being true. Come, Holy Spirit we pray. In Jesus’ name we ask. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Good evening DAB family. It’s been a while since I called in and I just wanted to let you know that I’m praying for each of you and I love you all. And it’s so great to listen every day besides the fact that I don’t really call in regularly. Asia, I am so sorry for your loss. I can’t begin to imagine what you’re going through. And I know it’s so hard to make sense of things, but I know that the God we serve, you know, will somehow or another, whether now or later, in another life, you know, will reveal, you know, why, the why that you’re looking for. When that happens __ but when you see Him, He just may. But I know that He’s going to take care of you. I know that He’s going to wrap His arms around you and He will come to the crushed in spirit and broken hearted. The trucker, I’m praying for you, believing that everything is going to be well for you. I’m praying for the father of the 15-year-old pregnant daughter. I was once too, a 15-year-old pregnant child and I can totally relate. I was a child pregnant and the mother of a 15 year old pregnant…unfortunately it’s like a repeat of itself or at least with the first one. And, so, I’m praying for all of you, so many of you, too many mention in one call - Pastor Gene, Victoria Soldier, and others on line, Lisa the Encourager, you know, Candice, you know. You’re all, all, all amazing and just know I’m praying for you. Esther from New York.

Good morning Daily Audio Bible family. I am calling with a praise report. It’s so interesting because the enemy this morning kept telling me not to call. I think I’ve called three times this week and that would be bad…stupid…and I just heard the voice telling me to be obedient. So, I am calling with a praise report. I have called because I was up all night long wrestling with the enemy, but that’s my mind I had shared with you. This is His Beloved by the way from California. But my boys were fighting, we have raccoons keeping us up all night and my husband who had been texting this woman from work all night long that week and was really bothering me. I called for prayer. I had been up all night, wrestling with the enemy in my head. And yesterday, I’m just telling you now, the power of prayer. My raccoons left. The families gone. We slept. The boys were getting on beautifully all night like normal and my husband comes back into bed at 10pm last night and tells me, I’m done texting her, not going to text her any more…out of the blue. So, I just wanted to say, there’s so much power in prayer. Not just prayer guys. I was marching around my house yesterday. My neighbor’s and family think I’m crazy. I was proclaiming, I was saying to my house, we serve the Lord. I was casting demons out of my marital bed, out of my boys’ room. I was taking action, so I don’t let that bug me. I don’t know if that helped anyone, but prayer is awesome, but we have to take action in scripture and I was just claiming my home and my family and my marriage and it’s a praise report. Hallelujah. I love you. I’m praying for all of you every morning. Brian and Jill, as always, God bless you. May the Lord protect and keep you.

Hey family, it’s Shannon from Salem Oregon. I have a couple of praises and a prayer request. One, thank you for praying for my daughter Serena. Shortly after I called and you all started praying, I remember there was a parenting __ and __ class in or area coming up. And, so, my husband and I started attending that and it just gave us the tools we needed at the right time and we were hungry for them and ready to start putting them into practice. And we’ve seen some really good things, not only with Serena but our younger two kids as well. So, that’s been really good. We also had, the kids and I, had a really amazing visit with my uncle. And I was asking you to pray for him before. And, so, the Lord just gave us a really beautiful time together. And I feel like it was a reset for our relationship. And that was just such __. Thank you for the prayer. And my prayer request is, I’m lamenting right now. And I listened to Brian’s explanation about Lamentations and I’m in torment right now. It’s not something as big as the destruction of Jerusalem but the job that my husband’s been in for 14 years, a ministry position. He’s transitioning out of that and it’s something we’ve been praying abut for a while, but just the way it came about was kind of surprising. And it’s been really painful. And we don’t know what’s gonna happen or come next. But I’d love for you to pray for us and our family. I really appreciate it. Thanks, ya’ll. Love you. Bye.

Morning Daily Audio Bible, this is Laura Lee. I really didn’t want to call but I must obey the Holy Spirit. This is for Asia and Joe the Protector as well. When I was 15 I became pregnant and also two other times that…I had abortions. And when I came to the Lord and He revealed the truth of what I had done. I stand forgiven and without condemnation. Well, three years ago I went on a mission trip to the Bahama’s after hurricane Mathew with two young ladies who had suffered miscarriages. And the Lord really was prompting me to share what I had done with them. And I didn’t know why. I didn’t want to. But as I struggled with that sharing He asked me…He let me know that I could name my babies and that they were with Him and that I would see them later. And I was able to share that with the two young ladies. And Asia, I just want you to know that one of the names is Asia. And I will see my little girl __ and you will as well. And I want to thank you both for being people who love God, who know God’s will. And I had to forgive my mom, a whole nation, all the people who weren’t around to tell me who God was and what was happening. And I…I just wanted to share that. I don’t…
