1 Chronicles 12:19-14:17, Romans 1:1-17, Psalms 9:13-20, Proverbs 19:4-5

Today’s the 12th day of July. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian. It is great to be here with you at the end of a workweek. And as I mentioned yesterday, we concluded the book of Acts yesterday, which means that we’re going to be moving into some new territory in the New Testament, but we’ll talk about that when we get there. First, we’re reading from the New International Version this week. First Chronicles chapter 12 verse 19 through 14 verse 17.

Introduction to the book of Romans:

Okay. So, yesterday we finished the book of Acts, and, as we will recall the first part of the book of Acts really helped us to get to know the apostle Peter and his immediate ministry after Jesus ascension, but then later, the second half of the book of Acts introduced us to Saul who became the apostle Paul and his missionary journeys. And, so, we’ve been all over the Roman Empire, practically with the apostle Paul. So, we had the opportunity to get acquainted. Today we’re moving into new territory into the book of Romans, which is a letter written by the apostle Paul and it’s the first of a bunch of letters that we’re gonna encounter from the apostle Paul in the New Testament. Paul’s not the only letter writer in the New Testament. There are other letters, but we’re gonna be spending our time for the next while now reading letters to people and to groups of people. But this one called Romans, most biblical scholars agree that Romans is by far Paul’s most comprehensive work and so much of our theology around this faith, this Christian faith, so much of our understanding of the good news of Jesus it originates in the book of Romans. And it’s likely that this letter was written from the city of Corinth we’re some of Paul’s greatest missionary work had been accomplished and it was probably written somewhere in the mid 50s A.D. That might be just a date. You may just think, “that’s a date and it’s a long time ago”, a couple thousand years ago, almost. Like if it were 2050 A.D. then we’re looking back to 50 A.D. And again, you could be just like, “well that’s cool, it’s cool to know when it was written, but what significance?” What’s interesting is that Paul’s letters…and one of the reasons why they’re so revered and important is they are some of the earliest writings about Jesus. So, when we talk about the mid 50s A.D. for the letter to the Romans, we’re talking about a letter that was written before any of the Gospels were written. So, you won’t hear Paul talking in kind of gospel narrative style where like he’s telling the story of Jesus because Paul never met Jesus in the flesh while he was ministering on the earth. The Jesus that Paul met…and by the way I’m not trying to say there is a couple of different Jesus’s…but when Paul encountered Christ, he encountered Jesus after His resurrection after His ascension. So, the Jesus Paul knew was essentially the cosmic Christ, like the Eternal One. And again, I know that gets kind of convoluted. I’m not saying that Jesus in the flesh on earth was a different Jesus than the cosmic Christ. They’re the same person. I’m just saying Paul didn’t know Jesus in life. Paul didn’t know Jesus in His humanity on earth. And when Paul wrote Romans the narrative stories, at least in written form that we know as the Gospels, those had not been penned yet. Of course, this opens up a can of worms because just about everything in the Bible has been up for debate over the thousands of years that scholarly disciplines have been applied to it. So, there would certainly be scholars who would argue for earlier dates of certain Gospels, especially the gospel of Mark being more contemporary with Paul’s writings and I’m not trying to get us in the weeds here. I’m just trying to say some of Paul’s authority in his letters come because of their earliness. They were being passed around between churches and communities. They were being copied and kind of moving their way throughout the early church, especially in a lot of churches that Paul had a hand in and founding. So, we see that as they’re passed around, they begin to carry weight and authority that lasts all the way until councils ratify the New Testament. So, anyway, when Paul finished the book of Romans, he sent a Deaconess, Phoebe, from the church of Cenchreae, which was just outside of Corinth to hand-deliver this letter and make an introduction to the apostle Paul to the Romans. And we have followed Paul in the book of Acts throughout his missionary journeys and we know that Rome was a place that he wanted to go but it was not a place that he was able to go until he was under arrest. So, the church in Rome wasn’t planted by Paul and we don’t know who brought the gospel of Jesus to Rome. The most likely scenario is that somebody or a group of somebody’s who were influenced by the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost carried the gospel back to Rome and the church was established there. So, Paul was arrested in Jerusalem, right? And then he was held captive and under arrest in Caesarea Maritima before going to Rome and he was imprisoned mostly because he taught that the gospel, the message of Jesus, was open to Jews and Gentiles alike, that God was now welcoming all who believed in Jesus into his family, which was a massive reframing of the perceptions and traditions of devout Jews and was one of the reasons Paul constantly caused riots everywhere that he went. It’s the book of Romans that explains why Paul felt the way that he feels, that he felt, about all of these things, explains how he came to this truth. And he wrote in an educated way that devout Jews could understand, connecting beautifully Jesus to a story that had been taking place among the Jews since Abraham. Paul explained the law. We’ll hear a lot of talk about the law in Paul’s writings, which is referring to the Mosaic law. And he just unpacked its purpose as a Pharisee who would been devout while revealing that nobody’d ever been able to obey the law perfectly and the idea was if you could obey the law perfectly you could be justified before God. And, so, Paul’s just realizing and reiterating and saying out loud, nobody’s done that. No one be could become perfect before God on their own, through a law or through rules. But Jesus fulfilled the law and through Jesus we can all be made righteous before God. And, so, with all of that being said, we begin the letter to the Romans chapter 1 verses 1 through 17.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word and we thank You that as we continue the journey day by day, step-by-step we get to turn the page and encounter new aspects and new stories and new insights. And so, as You have brought us safely here to the book of Romans, we invite Your Holy Spirit. So much of what we believe is contained in this letter. And, so, now we have a front row seat to hearing the argument, to hearing what it was that Paul was trying to say as he was unpacking the gospel. So, come Holy Spirit into our time as we navigate the letter to the Romans we pray. And of course, Your guidance, Your insight, Your love and compassion for us throughout every verse, every word that we read, we invite You. Plant Your word in our lives in our spirit and transform us we ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Hello, this is Zach from North Carolina. I was calling in again about my son Orson. He’s…he was born on June 10th and I was calling for prayers for his…my wife and his mother Kelly and his two sisters Azlan and Danielle. I was calling for prayers for them for peace and understanding for them. My son passed away today around 6 PM Eastern time today at Duke University Hospital in Dermark North Carolina. He was 28 days old. He was born on June 10th. He died today on July 7th. Please pray for his sister’s Azlan and Daniela pray for his wife…I mean my wife…his mother Kelly as we grieve his loss. And pray for Orson as he joins God in heaven as one of his angels. Thank you so much.

Good morning DABbers, this is Bruce first time caller from California. I’m leaving a prayer request from bio wife Donnie. She’s about to have shoulder replacement surgery on the 15th of this month and I’m just reaching out to you to make sure that we get as much prayer for her as possible. And while I am on the subject of Donnie I just want to let you know, wives out there, that she has listened to the Daily Audio Bible for years now and it’s because of her commitment to listening to the Daily Audio Bible and hearing her lay in her bed and every morning pray for those people that call in with prayer requests that I went from not only just listening to the Daily Audio Bible but actually listening to the prayers that come on after Brian delivers the message. And wives just…I want to let you know that your commitment to leave an example for your husbands doesn’t go unnoticed. It is because of her actions that I am at where I’m at with my walk with God. Hello DAB this is Terry the trucker. I’m just calling to give an update. I’m probably about 2 ½ weeks left of therapy. Ask for continued prayers that my body will be ready to go back to work and I’m able to by the end of the month. Also want to give a shout out to all the people that’ve called in about…about being discouraged and losing hope and not knowing their purpose. You know, we all go through seasons. Some of them last just a few days, few weeks, months. Some years, sometimes a lifetime. But, you know, we never really know why. Sometimes, you know, God will reveal or it to us and sometimes He don’t, you know. And it may last you…if it lasts you your lifetime then it might just be that it encourages somebody that hears your story and knows what you went through and can say, “man that person went through a lot, but they stayed faithful. They fought the fight, they ran the race and that we’re a good and faithful servant.” That’s what our Lord wants of us. So, I just ask you to stay strong, keep your eyes on Jesus. That’s what we’re here for. And that’s what He’s for. I want to give a shout out to Cherry and Greg. You’re in my prayers. Blessings from California. Blind Tony. All you guys. And everybody that calls in, I want you to know that you’re in my prayers daily. It’s been a long year. It’s been almost a year. August 15th’s comin’ up fast. To be honest, I’m scared. You were played on the first of July and I’m just praying for reconciliation with your son and for you to get to meet your grandbabies. The Daily Audio Bible Reading for Friday July 12, 2019 (NIV)

1 Chronicles 12:19-14:17

19 Some of the tribe of Manasseh defected to David when he went with the Philistines to fight against Saul. (He and his men did not help the Philistines because, after consultation, their rulers sent him away. They said, “It will cost us our heads if he deserts to his master Saul.”)(A) 20 When David went to Ziklag,(B) these were the men of Manasseh who defected to him: Adnah, Jozabad, Jediael, Michael, Jozabad, Elihu and Zillethai, leaders of units of a thousand in Manasseh. 21 They helped David against raiding bands, for all of them were brave warriors, and they were commanders in his army. 22 Day after day men came to help David, until he had a great army, like the army of God.[a]

Others Join David at Hebron

23 These are the numbers of the men armed for battle who came to David at Hebron(C) to turn(D) Saul’s kingdom over to him, as the Lord had said:(E)

24 from Judah, carrying shield and spear—6,800 armed for battle;

25 from Simeon, warriors ready for battle—7,100;

26 from Levi—4,600, 27 including Jehoiada, leader of the family of Aaron, with 3,700 men, 28 and Zadok,(F) a brave young warrior, with 22 officers from his family;

29 from Benjamin,(G) Saul’s tribe—3,000, most(H) of whom had remained loyal to Saul’s house until then;

30 from Ephraim, brave warriors, famous in their own clans—20,800;

31 from half the tribe of Manasseh, designated by name to come and make David king—18,000;

32 from Issachar, men who understood the times and knew what Israel should do(I)—200 chiefs, with all their relatives under their command;

33 from Zebulun, experienced soldiers prepared for battle with every type of weapon, to help David with undivided loyalty—50,000;

34 from Naphtali—1,000 officers, together with 37,000 men carrying shields and spears;

35 from Dan, ready for battle—28,600;

36 from Asher, experienced soldiers prepared for battle—40,000;

37 and from east of the Jordan, from Reuben, Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh, armed with every type of weapon—120,000.

38 All these were fighting men who volunteered to serve in the ranks. They came to Hebron fully determined to make David king over all Israel.(J) All the rest of the Israelites were also of one mind to make David king. 39 The men spent three days there with David, eating and drinking,(K) for their families had supplied provisions for them. 40 Also, their neighbors from as far away as Issachar, Zebulun and Naphtali came bringing food on donkeys, camels, mules and oxen. There were plentiful supplies(L) of flour, fig cakes, raisin(M) cakes, wine, olive oil, cattle and sheep, for there was joy(N) in Israel.

Bringing Back the Ark(O)

13 David conferred with each of his officers, the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds. 2 He then said to the whole assembly of Israel, “If it seems good to you and if it is the will of the Lord our God, let us send word far and wide to the rest of our people throughout the territories of Israel, and also to the priests and Levites who are with them in their towns and pasturelands, to come and join us. 3 Let us bring the ark of our God back to us,(P) for we did not inquire(Q) of[b] it[c] during the reign of Saul.” 4 The whole assembly agreed to do this, because it seemed right to all the people.

5 So David assembled all Israel,(R) from the Shihor River(S) in Egypt to Lebo Hamath,(T) to bring the ark of God from Kiriath Jearim.(U) 6 David and all Israel went to Baalah(V) of Judah (Kiriath Jearim) to bring up from there the ark of God the Lord, who is enthroned between the cherubim(W)—the ark that is called by the Name.

7 They moved the ark of God from Abinadab’s(X) house on a new cart, with Uzzah and Ahio guiding it. 8 David and all the Israelites were celebrating with all their might before God, with songs and with harps, lyres, timbrels, cymbals and trumpets.(Y)

9 When they came to the threshing floor of Kidon, Uzzah reached out his hand to steady the ark, because the oxen stumbled. 10 The Lord’s anger(Z) burned against Uzzah, and he struck him down(AA) because he had put his hand on the ark. So he died there before God.

11 Then David was angry because the Lord’s wrath had broken out against Uzzah, and to this day that place is called Perez Uzzah.[d](AB)

12 David was afraid of God that day and asked, “How can I ever bring the ark of God to me?” 13 He did not take the ark to be with him in the City of David. Instead, he took it to the house of Obed-Edom(AC) the Gittite. 14 The ark of God remained with the family of Obed-Edom in his house for three months, and the Lord blessed his household(AD) and everything he had.

David’s House and Family(AE)

14 Now Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, along with cedar logs,(AF) stonemasons and carpenters to build a palace for him. 2 And David knew that the Lord had established him as king over Israel and that his kingdom had been highly exalted(AG) for the sake of his people Israel.

3 In Jerusalem David took more wives and became the father of more sons(AH) and daughters. 4 These are the names of the children born to him there:(AI) Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon, 5 Ibhar, Elishua, Elpelet, 6 Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia, 7 Elishama, Beeliada[e] and Eliphelet.

David Defeats the Philistines(AJ)

8 When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel,(AK) they went up in full force to search for him, but David heard about it and went out to meet them. 9 Now the Philistines had come and raided the Valley(AL) of Rephaim; 10 so David inquired of God: “Shall I go and attack the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hands?”

The Lord answered him, “Go, I will deliver them into your hands.”

11 So David and his men went up to Baal Perazim,(AM) and there he defeated them. He said, “As waters break out, God has broken out against my enemies by my hand.” So that place was called Baal Perazim.[f] 12 The Philistines had abandoned their gods there, and David gave orders to burn(AN) them in the fire.(AO)

13 Once more the Philistines raided the valley;(AP) 14 so David inquired of God again, and God answered him, “Do not go directly after them, but circle around them and attack them in front of the poplar trees. 15 As soon as you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the poplar trees, move out to battle, because that will mean God has gone out in front of you to strike the Philistine army.” 16 So David did as God commanded him, and they struck down the Philistine army, all the way from Gibeon(AQ) to Gezer.(AR)

17 So David’s fame(AS) spread throughout every land, and the Lord made all the nations fear(AT) him.

Romans 1:1-17

1 Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle(A) and set apart(B) for the gospel of God(C)— 2 the gospel he promised beforehand(D) through his prophets(E) in the Holy Scriptures(F) 3 regarding his Son, who as to his earthly life[a](G) was a descendant of David,(H) 4 and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power[b](I) by his resurrection from the dead:(J) Jesus Christ our Lord.(K) 5 Through him we received grace(L) and apostleship to call all the Gentiles(M) to the obedience that comes from[c] faith(N) for his name’s sake. 6 And you also are among those Gentiles who are called to belong to Jesus Christ.(O)

7 To all in Rome who are loved by God(P) and called to be his holy people:(Q)

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.(R)

Paul’s Longing to Visit Rome

8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you,(S) because your faith is being reported all over the world.(T) 9 God, whom I serve(U) in my spirit in preaching the gospel of his Son, is my witness(V) how constantly I remember you 10 in my prayers at all times;(W) and I pray that now at last by God’s will(X) the way may be opened for me to come to you.(Y)

11 I long to see you(Z) so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift(AA) to make you strong— 12 that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith. 13 I do not want you to be unaware,(AB) brothers and sisters,[d](AC) that I planned many times to come to you (but have been prevented from doing so until now)(AD) in order that I might have a harvest among you, just as I have had among the other Gentiles.

14 I am obligated(AE) both to Greeks and non-Greeks, both to the wise and the foolish. 15 That is why I am so eager to preach the gospel also to you who are in Rome.(AF)

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel,(AG) because it is the power of God(AH) that brings salvation to everyone who believes:(AI) first to the Jew,(AJ) then to the Gentile.(AK) 17 For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed(AL)—a righteousness that is by faith(AM) from first to last,[e] just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”[f](AN)

Psalm 9:13-20

13 Lord, see how my enemies(A) persecute me!
Have mercy(B) and lift me up from the gates of death,(C)
14 that I may declare your praises(D)
in the gates of Daughter Zion,(E)
and there rejoice in your salvation.(F)

15 The nations have fallen into the pit they have dug;(G)

1 Chron 11:1-12:18, Acts 28:1-31, Ps 9:1-12, Pr 19:1-3

Today is the 11th day of July. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian and it is wonderful to be here with you today as we continue moving forward, step-by-step, day by day through the Bible this year. This is a big day because today when we get to the New Testament reading we will conclude the book of Acts, which will lead us to begin the book of Romans tomorrow. And, so, we will move into letters from people to people as we continue forward through the Bible. But we’ll talk about all that as we go through it. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Let’s be right here and finish the book of Acts well but before we can do that we have our Old Testament reading from the book of first Chronicles. Today we’ll read chapter 11 verse 1 through 12:18 and we’re from the New International Version this week.

Commentary:

Okay. So, we concluded the book of acts today, as we mentioned at the beginning. And the book of Acts concludes with Paul…well…with Paul finally ending up in Rome. But yesterday we were in the ship with Paul being buffeted by the wind and the waves and all hope was lost. And then there was an island. And as it turned out, the island was called Malta. So, if you just look at a map of the Mediterranean Sea and you find Caesarea, so way at the east end of the Mediterranean Sea and Israel and then you look at where Rome is and then you look at where Malta is then you realize how fortunate it was that that they landed on Malta because if they had missed out island, well, they would probably for sure not have survived. The wide-open sea and a watery grave would’ve been out in front of them. And, so, as it turns out Paul tells everybody there gonna live and they do and the Maltese people were friendly and there’s a bonfire and a beach and a snake incident, right? And we’ve seen this with Paul before. They communicate and then people start thinking their gods and they want to worship them. So, there’s this snake that attaches itself to Paul’s hand, he shakes it in the fire, and everybody’s like he’s a murderer, and he’s gonna die and he doesn’t. So, instead of a murderer, they think he’s a God. Obviously he’s not a God and obviously he’s not trying to say that he is, but he does use the opportunity when people are listening to walk right through the open door and share the gospel of Jesus. And, so, during the three months that they spent on Malta Paul healed and ministered. And then when they sailed away they sailed away with great honor. Malta’s still an island. It’s still a place. We have brothers and sisters who listen to the Daily Audio Bible who live on Malta and we’ve heard from them over the years. Malta ended up being one of the first of the Roman colonies to convert to the faith of Jesus and they still honor Paul’s visit all the way until today.

And then we also have to talk about what we read in Proverbs because Proverbs 19:3 pretty much lays out an experience that we have all had and is kind of the normal posture of the world toward God. “A person’s own folly leads to their ruin. Yet their heart rages against the Lord.” And that is as true a statement as it gets. We’re all guilty of blaming God for whatever happens to us, right? God, as I’ve said in the book Reframe, has become the cosmic trash sheep for all of our suffering and while we’re heaping that blame we’re like taking steps backward away. We’re like…we’re trying to remove ourselves from being culpable at all. Like, if God is sovereign and all-powerful then He wouldn’t have let this happen. Have you ever heard that one before? I mean have you heard that before? Have you ever said that before? Probably heard and said many times. But when did we become above God and strong and powerful enough to comment on and make assumptions about what He does and doesn’t do. He is the sovereign Almighty God, Creator of all things. I mean, the fact is, blaming somebody else for something that you have done is a horrible thing to do, but it’s also not healthy. It’s like a disorder. It’s devastating to relationships. So, why do we continue to do it to God when He’s the only one willing to stand with us no matter what may come. Like bad things happen that we navigate ourselves into, right, our own folly, our own foolishness, and it leads to our own ruin, and then we want to blame God for what happened when actually He’s the only one that is still standing with us in it. He’s not to blame. He’s in it and can help us navigate out of it but we’re trying to transfer blame. So, a good relationship happens when people are willing to own their own lives and actions. So, it’s kind of time that we apply that not only to our other relationships, but also to our relationship with God. There’s nothing He’s gonna leave us and abandon us over if we’re walking with Him. There’s nothing He’s not gonna guide us through if we’re walking with Him, but He also loves us enough to let us walk away if that’s what we’re after. And we need to stop blaming Him and we do. Better yet, we should stop walking away at all, ever. Or as the Proverbs says, “a person’s own folly leads to their ruin.”

Prayer:

Father, we’ve experienced that on number of occasions, big and small in our lives. We can certainly appreciate and validate what’s being said here in the book of Proverbs, but we also have to acknowledge the ways that we try to shift the blame. And when we can’t find any person to put it on we put it on You and this pulls us apart. No relationship can stand like that. If we were in a relationship and the only thing that was going on was transfer…transference of blame, that’s pretty…that’s a pretty slippery slope that’s not heading in a good direction at all and we’ll end up with the ruins, the relationship. And, so, we shouldn’t be surprised in how we’re continually confused about our relationship with You, and yet even in that we want to blame You. Help us to look in the mirror today and Holy Spirit, help us to see. Help us to see what we’re doing. Help us to see that it’s not healthy. We surrender to You. You are the sovereign God and we acknowledge that when walk away from You, life does begin to spiral, but it’s not You who pushed us away, it’s we who walked away. Forgive us, God. We return to You. Come Holy Spirit we pray, in the name of Jesus we ask. Amen.

I want to remind you about…about the family reunion that’s coming up at the end of August, first part of September, over Labor Day weekend. We have a fantastically beautiful camp out on Percy Priest Lake that we just locked down for us. We needed to try to increase the capacity from what we tried last year and so we’ve done that and so there’s availability and hope you can come. And I want to mention a couple of things about that. We locked down all of the cabins there. So, as many of you can stay on site as want to…they cost a little bit more than a hotel around here, but not by much. And there the size…they’re the size of like a house. I mean they’re laid out like a bunkhouse, but they have their own shower and bathroom and all of this in it. But they’re huge and spacious and right on the grounds and we have a few of those left but we’re gonna have to release them back to the camp in another week. So, want to give you heads up on that. And also want to tell you why you should come. This past year, this year of 2019, this year of maintenance this year of maintaining, man, at least for me, one of the most poignant words, advanced words that I’ve gotten and as I hear feedback from the community, yeah, maintenance, maintaining that takes a lot of focus. And at least for me, halfway through the year now I've…yeah know, I don’t know what the second half of the year completely looks like, but halfway through here I can say, “man you can’t really be involved in what you can’t maintain otherwise you need to question whether you are involved in it, because if you can’t maintain it then you’re eventually gonna have a problem. And then just in terms of my relationship with God, I realized, if I want more of God than I have to be with God more, which means all these things that I’m maintaining, I have to question whether I should be. And one of the things that Jill and I realized coming into this year was that we…we were coming to an end of the More Gathering on Sharp Top Mountain in Georgia. We didn’t know what was next or for that matter still really don’t know exactly what’s next we just knew that was supposed to happen. And, so, in obedience we did. And at this point now we know, oh, next year were not gonna be doing all of the things that we’ve been doing. Next year were supposed to be doing some things that we’ve been trying to bring to resolution for years and also God is inviting us onto some new paths. So, we won’t be doing the More Gathering in 2020, and we won’t be doing the Family Reunion in 2020. We will be going to Israel in 2020 and that…that pilgrimage is about sold out. There’s a handful of spots left. And, so, if that’s been on your…on your list to check into, I would check it out. But I’m saying all this to say, this Family Reunion is really meaningful to us because, you know, we’ve been at this for 14 years, seven days a week, and the Lord is inviting us in the next year in 2020 to breathe and to dream again. So, this family reunion is meaningful to us because it puts us face-to-face with you and not just seeing you by voice but seeing you in person. And, so, I hope you can be there. I hope you can come to the rolling hills of Tennessee and see what all the magic is about here and visit our hometown of Nashville, which is the destination place. For whatever reason, we just watched our city explode with a lot of energy and excitement. Hi DAB family this is MK and I’m really needing your prayers right now. I’m in such a bad place. I’m so angry. I currently hate my church very much I finally feel like I hate everything, and hate is such a strong word but that’s what I’m feeling. I feel so much rage towards my leaders, towards my pastors, just towards everyone right now because of a situation that occurred where there was injustice. But I need you to pray for me and that I would remember that I go to a good church, that every church has…has issues and that there is a need to…of a revival in my church and that as I a church member, a child of God, I need to pray for my church but I ask you to pray for my heart ,that I’d feel peace, that this anger would leave me and that I be able to move on from the situation with God. Hi there, I just need to ask for some prayer. I lost my job a while…a couple of months ago and I was supposed to give up my apartment, I’m living with a friend and I recently __ thank God I recently started working again and I managed __ but unfortunately, I’m __ living __ six __ at the moment. That’s how many times I’ve thought about __ . He kind of just ignores me and still tries to have sex with me. And I’ve started drinking just because it makes it easier. And recently I’ve looked in the mirror and I realized I can’t…I can’t notice myself anymore. __ God’s really bad and he actually went there for cigarettes and I realized, that no, that’s how many times he __ interested in your body but __ he smokes or he’s interested or whatever. I’m just so run down that I don’t even try and fight it anymore, even when he’s been smoking cigarettes out. And I just sat there, and I took it. And when he tried to have sex yesterday…that’s how many times __ he said to me you’ve just gotta stop. I’m never gonna know the country. I don’t know anyone here. I can’t breathe at the moment and I don’t know how to __…

I thank You that You want to co-labor with us, that You want us to speak with You on a regular basis. I thank You that Your destroying the lottery kind of messaging of our minds when it comes to our finances but that we have a healthy understanding of finances. I thank You that we are increasing our skill sets in finances so that we can go out and do the will of God, to take care of the sick, to take care of the widows, to take care of the orphans and take care of those who need someone to speak up for them. I thank You that You are moving the financial mountains, the financial burdens of our life so that we can be free people, free people to pursue all that You have put in our hearts to do. I thank You that Your delivering people right now from suicidal torment just as You have delivered me from suicidal torment. The Daily Audio Bible Reading for Thursday July 11, 2019 (NIV)

1 Chronicles 11:1-12:18

David Becomes King Over Israel(A)

11 All Israel(B) came together to David at Hebron(C) and said, “We are your own flesh and blood. 2 In the past, even while Saul was king, you were the one who led Israel on their military campaigns.(D) And the Lord your God said to you, ‘You will shepherd(E) my people Israel, and you will become their ruler.(F)’”

3 When all the elders of Israel had come to King David at Hebron, he made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord, and they anointed(G) David king over Israel, as the Lord had promised through Samuel.

David Conquers Jerusalem(H)

4 David and all the Israelites marched to Jerusalem (that is, Jebus). The Jebusites(I) who lived there 5 said to David, “You will not get in here.” Nevertheless, David captured the fortress of Zion—which is the City of David.

6 David had said, “Whoever leads the attack on the Jebusites will become commander-in-chief.” Joab(J) son of Zeruiah went up first, and so he received the command.

7 David then took up residence in the fortress, and so it was called the City of David. 8 He built up the city around it, from the terraces[a](K) to the surrounding wall, while Joab restored the rest of the city. 9 And David became more and more powerful,(L) because the Lord Almighty was with him.

David’s Mighty Warriors(M)

10 These were the chiefs of David’s mighty warriors—they, together with all Israel,(N) gave his kingship strong support to extend it over the whole land, as the Lord had promised(O)— 11 this is the list of David’s mighty warriors:(P)

Jashobeam,[b] a Hakmonite, was chief of the officers[c]; he raised his spear against three hundred men, whom he killed in one encounter.

12 Next to him was Eleazar son of Dodai the Ahohite, one of the three mighty warriors. 13 He was with David at Pas Dammim when the Philistines gathered there for battle. At a place where there was a field full of barley, the troops fled from the Philistines. 14 But they took their stand in the middle of the field. They defended it and struck the Philistines down, and the Lord brought about a great victory.(Q)

15 Three of the thirty chiefs came down to David to the rock at the cave of Adullam, while a band of Philistines was encamped in the Valley(R) of Rephaim. 16 At that time David was in the stronghold,(S) and the Philistine garrison was at Bethlehem. 17 David longed for water and said, “Oh, that someone would get me a drink of water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem!” 18 So the Three broke through the Philistine lines, drew water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem and carried it back to David. But he refused to drink it; instead, he poured(T) it out to the Lord. 19 “God forbid that I should do this!” he said. “Should I drink the blood of these men who went at the risk of their lives?” Because they risked their lives to bring it back, David would not drink it.

Such were the exploits of the three mighty warriors.

20 Abishai(U) the brother of Joab was chief of the Three. He raised his spear against three hundred men, whom he killed, and so he became as famous as the Three. 21 He was doubly honored above the Three and became their commander, even though he was not included among them.

22 Benaiah son of Jehoiada, a valiant fighter from Kabzeel,(V) performed great exploits. He struck down Moab’s two mightiest warriors. He also went down into a pit on a snowy day and killed a lion.(W) 23 And he struck down an Egyptian who was five cubits[d] tall. Although the Egyptian had a spear like a weaver’s rod(X) in his hand, Benaiah went against him with a club. He snatched the spear from the Egyptian’s hand and killed him with his own spear. 24 Such were the exploits of Benaiah son of Jehoiada; he too was as famous as the three mighty warriors. 25 He was held in greater honor than any of the Thirty, but he was not included among the Three. And David put him in charge of his bodyguard.

26 The mighty warriors were:

12 These were the men who came to David at Ziklag,(AH) while he was banished from the presence of Saul son of Kish (they were among the warriors who helped him in battle; 2 they were armed with bows and were able to shoot arrows or to sling stones right-handed or left-handed;(AI) they were relatives of Saul(AJ) from the tribe of Benjamin):

3 Ahiezer their chief and Joash the sons of Shemaah the Gibeathite; Jeziel and Pelet the sons of Azmaveth; Berakah, Jehu the Anathothite, 4 and Ishmaiah the Gibeonite, a mighty warrior among the Thirty, who was a leader of the Thirty; Jeremiah, Jahaziel, Johanan, Jozabad the Gederathite,[e](AK) 5 Eluzai, Jerimoth, Bealiah, Shemariah and Shephatiah the Haruphite; 6 Elkanah, Ishiah, Azarel, Joezer and Jashobeam the Korahites; 7 and Joelah and Zebadiah the sons of Jeroham from Gedor.(AL)

8 Some Gadites(AM) defected to David at his stronghold in the wilderness. They were brave warriors, ready for battle and able to handle the shield and spear. Their faces were the faces of lions,(AN) and they were as swift as gazelles(AO) in the mountains.

9 Ezer was the chief,

Obadiah the second in command, Eliab the third,

10 Mishmannah the fourth, Jeremiah the fifth,

11 Attai the sixth, Eliel the seventh,

12 Johanan the eighth, Elzabad the ninth,

13 Jeremiah the tenth and Makbannai the eleventh.

14 These Gadites were army commanders; the least was a match for a hundred,(AP) and the greatest for a thousand.(AQ) 15 It was they who crossed the Jordan in the first month when it was overflowing all its banks,(AR) and they put to flight everyone living in the valleys, to the east and to the west.

16 Other Benjamites(AS) and some men from Judah also came to David in his stronghold. 17 David went out to meet them and said to them, “If you have come to me in peace to help me, I am ready for you to join me. But if you have come to betray me to my enemies when my hands are free from violence, may the God of our ancestors see it and judge you.”

18 Then the Spirit(AT) came on Amasai,(AU) chief of the Thirty, and he said:

“We are yours, David!
We are with you, son of Jesse!
Success,(AV) success to you,
and success to those who help you,
for your God will help you.”

So David received them and made them leaders of his raiding bands.

Acts 28

Paul Ashore on Malta

28 Once safely on shore, we(A) found out that the island(B) was called Malta. 2 The islanders showed us unusual kindness. They built a fire and welcomed us all because it was raining and cold. 3 Paul gathered a pile of brushwood and, as he put it on the fire, a viper, driven out by the heat, fastened itself on his hand. 4 When the islanders saw the snake hanging from his hand,(C) they said to each other, “This man must be a murderer; for though he escaped from the sea, the goddess Justice has not allowed him to live.”(D) 5 But Paul shook the snake off into the fire and suffered no ill effects.(E) 6 The people expected him to swell up or suddenly fall dead; but after waiting a long time and seeing nothing unusual happen to him, they changed their minds and said he was a god.(F)

7 There was an estate nearby that belonged to Publius, the chief official of the island. He welcomed us to his home and showed us generous hospitality for three days. 8 His father was sick in bed, suffering from fever and dysentery. Paul went in to see him and, after prayer,(G) placed his hands on him(H) and healed him.(I) 9 When this had happened, the rest of the sick on the island came and were cured. 10 They honored us(J) in many ways; and when we were ready to sail, they furnished us with the supplies we needed.

11 After three months we put out to sea in a ship that had wintered in the island—it was an Alexandrian ship(K) with the figurehead of the twin gods Castor and Pollux. 12 We put in at Syracuse and stayed there three days. 13 From there we set sail and arrived at Rhegium. The next day the south wind came up, and on the following day we reached Puteoli. 14 There we found some brothers and sisters(L) who invited us to spend a week with them. And so we came to Rome. 15 The brothers and sisters(M) there had heard that we were coming, and they traveled as far as the Forum of Appius and the Three Taverns to meet us. At the sight of these people Paul thanked God and was encouraged. 16 When we got to Rome, Paul was allowed to live by himself, with a soldier to guard him.(N)

17 Three days later he called together the local Jewish leaders.(O) When they had assembled, Paul said to them: “My brothers,(P) although I have done nothing against our people(Q) or against the customs of our ancestors,(R) I was arrested in Jerusalem and handed over to the Romans. 18 They examined me(S) and wanted to release me,(T) because I was not guilty of any crime deserving death.(U) 19 The Jews objected, so I was compelled to make an appeal to Caesar.(V) I certainly did not intend to bring any charge against my own people. 20 For this reason I have asked to see you and talk with you. It is because of the hope of Israel(W) that I am bound with this chain.”(X)

21 They replied, “We have not received any letters from Judea concerning you, and none of our people(Y) who have come from there has reported or said anything bad about you. 22 But we want to hear what your views are, for we know that people everywhere are talking against this sect.”(Z)

23 They arranged to meet Paul on a certain day, and came in even larger numbers to the place where he was staying. He witnessed to them from morning till evening, explaining about the kingdom of God,(AA) and from the Law of Moses and from the Prophets(AB) he tried to persuade them about Jesus.(AC) 24 Some were convinced by what he said, but others would not believe.(AD) 25 They disagreed among themselves and began to leave after Paul had made this final statement: “The Holy Spirit spoke the truth to your ancestors when he said(AE) through Isaiah the prophet:

26 “‘Go to this people and say,
“You will be ever hearing but never understanding;
you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.”
27 For this people’s heart has become calloused;(AF)
they hardly hear with their ears,
and they have closed their eyes.
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
hear with their ears,
understand with their hearts
and turn, and I would heal them.’[a](AG)

28 “Therefore I want you to know that God’s salvation(AH) has been sent to the Gentiles,(AI) and they will listen!” [29] [b]

30 For two whole years Paul stayed there in his own rented house and welcomed all who came to see him. 31 He proclaimed the kingdom of God(AJ) and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ—with all boldness(AK) and without hindrance!

Today is the 10th day of July. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian. It is great to be here with you as we continue to navigate our way through this week and this is hump day. So, we’re in the middle of the week and we’ll take the next step forward. We spent the last several days in the Old Testament working our way through the first part of first Chronicles, which contains the famous genealogies of the Bible. And, so, we kind of don’t need to cover that territory again. We understand why it’s there and how meaningful it actually is and we’ll be continuing our journey through those genealogies, but we’re winding our way out and into the continued narrative stories in the book of first Chronicles today before we get into the New Testament where the apostle Paul is on a ship out in the ocean and all hope has been lost for survival. And we’ll pick up that in a minute. But first, we’re reading from the New International Version this week. First Chronicles 9 and 10.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word. We thank You for his constant reminder in our lives. We thank You that there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother, that there is nowhere that we can flee from Your presence, that wherever we are You are. And, so, we agree with David of long ago “Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth. You have set Your glory in the heavens. Through the praise of children and infants You have established a stronghold against Your enemies.” That is incredible, “through the praise of children and infants You have established a stronghold against Your enemies to silence the foe and the avenger.” How counterintuitive, how beautiful. What a continual invitation to have the faith of a child. “When we think about the heavens, the works of Your fingers, the moon and the stars which You put in place, who are we? Who are we that You would think about us? Who are human beings that You would care about them?” And yet, “You’ve made us a little lower than the angels.” In fact, if we’re going to be literal about this, from the Scriptures, then You have made us a little lower than God and “crowned us with glory and honor. You made us rulers over the works of Your hands. You put everything under our feet. We worship You, God. We adore You. We humble ourselves before You. We surrender our rights and our wrongs before You. Come Holy Spirt. “Lord, our Lord, how just majestic is Your name in all the earth.”

1 Chronicles 9-10

9 All Israel(A) was listed in the genealogies recorded in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah. They were taken captive to Babylon(B) because of their unfaithfulness.(C)

The People in Jerusalem(D)

2 Now the first to resettle on their own property in their own towns(E) were some Israelites, priests, Levites and temple servants.(F)

3 Those from Judah, from Benjamin, and from Ephraim and Manasseh who lived in Jerusalem were:

9 The people from Benjamin, as listed in their genealogy, numbered 956. All these men were heads of their families.

10 Of the priests:

Jedaiah; Jehoiarib; Jakin;

11 Azariah son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, the official in charge of the house of God;

12 Adaiah son of Jeroham, the son of Pashhur,(H) the son of Malkijah; and Maasai son of Adiel, the son of Jahzerah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Meshillemith, the son of Immer.

13 The priests, who were heads of families, numbered 1,760. They were able men, responsible for ministering in the house of God.

14 Of the Levites:

Shemaiah son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, a Merarite; 15 Bakbakkar, Heresh, Galal and Mattaniah(I) son of Mika, the son of Zikri, the son of Asaph; 16 Obadiah son of Shemaiah, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun; and Berekiah son of Asa, the son of Elkanah, who lived in the villages of the Netophathites.(J)

17 The gatekeepers:(K)

Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman and their fellow Levites, Shallum their chief 18 being stationed at the King’s Gate(L) on the east, up to the present time. These were the gatekeepers belonging to the camp of the Levites. 19 Shallum(M) son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his fellow gatekeepers from his family (the Korahites) were responsible for guarding the thresholds of the tent just as their ancestors had been responsible for guarding the entrance to the dwelling of the Lord. 20 In earlier times Phinehas(N) son of Eleazar was the official in charge of the gatekeepers, and the Lord was with him. 21 Zechariah(O) son of Meshelemiah was the gatekeeper at the entrance to the tent of meeting.

22 Altogether, those chosen to be gatekeepers(P) at the thresholds numbered 212. They were registered by genealogy in their villages. The gatekeepers had been assigned to their positions of trust by David and Samuel the seer.(Q) 23 They and their descendants were in charge of guarding the gates of the house of the Lord—the house called the tent of meeting. 24 The gatekeepers were on the four sides: east, west, north and south. 25 Their fellow Levites in their villages had to come from time to time and share their duties for seven-day(R) periods. 26 But the four principal gatekeepers, who were Levites, were entrusted with the responsibility for the rooms and treasuries(S) in the house of God. 27 They would spend the night stationed around the house of God,(T) because they had to guard it; and they had charge of the key(U) for opening it each morning.

28 Some of them were in charge of the articles used in the temple service; they counted them when they were brought in and when they were taken out. 29 Others were assigned to take care of the furnishings and all the other articles of the sanctuary,(V) as well as the special flour and wine, and the olive oil, incense and spices. 30 But some(W) of the priests took care of mixing the spices. 31 A Levite named Mattithiah, the firstborn son of Shallum the Korahite, was entrusted with the responsibility for baking the offering bread. 32 Some of the Kohathites, their fellow Levites, were in charge of preparing for every Sabbath the bread set out on the table.(X)

33 Those who were musicians,(Y) heads of Levite families, stayed in the rooms of the temple and were exempt from other duties because they were responsible for the work day and night.(Z)

34 All these were heads of Levite families, chiefs as listed in their genealogy, and they lived in Jerusalem.

The Genealogy of Saul(AA)

35 Jeiel(AB) the father[b] of Gibeon lived in Gibeon.

His wife’s name was Maakah, 36 and his firstborn son was Abdon, followed by Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner, Nadab, 37 Gedor, Ahio, Zechariah and Mikloth. 38 Mikloth was the father of Shimeam. They too lived near their relatives in Jerusalem.

39 Ner(AC) was the father of Kish,(AD) Kish the father of Saul, and Saul the father of Jonathan,(AE) Malki-Shua, Abinadab and Esh-Baal.[c](AF)

40 The son of Jonathan:

Merib-Baal,[d](AG) who was the father of Micah.

41 The sons of Micah:

Pithon, Melek, Tahrea and Ahaz.[e]

42 Ahaz was the father of Jadah, Jadah[f] was the father of Alemeth, Azmaveth and Zimri, and Zimri was the father of Moza. 43 Moza was the father of Binea; Rephaiah was his son, Eleasah his son and Azel his son.

44 Azel had six sons, and these were their names:

Azrikam, Bokeru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah and Hanan. These were the sons of Azel.

Saul Takes His Life(AH)

10 Now the Philistines fought against Israel; the Israelites fled before them, and many fell dead on Mount Gilboa. 2 The Philistines were in hot pursuit of Saul and his sons, and they killed his sons Jonathan, Abinadab and Malki-Shua. 3 The fighting grew fierce around Saul, and when the archers overtook him, they wounded him.

4 Saul said to his armor-bearer, “Draw your sword and run me through, or these uncircumcised fellows will come and abuse me.”

But his armor-bearer was terrified and would not do it; so Saul took his own sword and fell on it. 5 When the armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he too fell on his sword and died. 6 So Saul and his three sons died, and all his house died together.

7 When all the Israelites in the valley saw that the army had fled and that Saul and his sons had died, they abandoned their towns and fled. And the Philistines came and occupied them.

8 The next day, when the Philistines came to strip the dead, they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa. 9 They stripped him and took his head and his armor, and sent messengers throughout the land of the Philistines to proclaim the news among their idols and their people. 10 They put his armor in the temple of their gods and hung up his head in the temple of Dagon.(AI)

11 When all the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead(AJ) heard what the Philistines had done to Saul, 12 all their valiant men went and took the bodies of Saul and his sons and brought them to Jabesh. Then they buried their bones under the great tree in Jabesh, and they fasted seven days.

13 Saul died(AK) because he was unfaithful(AL) to the Lord; he did not keep(AM) the word of the Lord and even consulted a medium(AN) for guidance, 14 and did not inquire of the Lord. So the Lord put him to death and turned(AO) the kingdom(AP) over to David son of Jesse.

Acts 27:21-44

21 After they had gone a long time without food, Paul stood up before them and said: “Men, you should have taken my advice(A) not to sail from Crete;(B) then you would have spared yourselves this damage and loss. 22 But now I urge you to keep up your courage,(C) because not one of you will be lost; only the ship will be destroyed. 23 Last night an angel(D) of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve(E) stood beside me(F) 24 and said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul. You must stand trial before Caesar;(G) and God has graciously given you the lives of all who sail with you.’(H) 25 So keep up your courage,(I) men, for I have faith in God that it will happen just as he told me.(J) 26 Nevertheless, we must run aground(K) on some island.”(L)

The Shipwreck

27 On the fourteenth night we were still being driven across the Adriatic[a] Sea, when about midnight the sailors sensed they were approaching land. 28 They took soundings and found that the water was a hundred and twenty feet[b] deep. A short time later they took soundings again and found it was ninety feet[c] deep. 29 Fearing that we would be dashed against the rocks, they dropped four anchors from the stern and prayed for daylight. 30 In an attempt to escape from the ship, the sailors let the lifeboat(M) down into the sea, pretending they were going to lower some anchors from the bow. 31 Then Paul said to the centurion and the soldiers, “Unless these men stay with the ship, you cannot be saved.”(N) 32 So the soldiers cut the ropes that held the lifeboat and let it drift away.

33 Just before dawn Paul urged them all to eat. “For the last fourteen days,” he said, “you have been in constant suspense and have gone without food—you haven’t eaten anything. 34 Now I urge you to take some food. You need it to survive. Not one of you will lose a single hair from his head.”(O) 35 After he said this, he took some bread and gave thanks to God in front of them all. Then he broke it(P) and began to eat. 36 They were all encouraged(Q) and ate some food themselves. 37 Altogether there were 276 of us on board. 38 When they had eaten as much as they wanted, they lightened the ship by throwing the grain into the sea.(R)

39 When daylight came, they did not recognize the land, but they saw a bay with a sandy beach,(S) where they decided to run the ship aground if they could. 40 Cutting loose the anchors,(T) they left them in the sea and at the same time untied the ropes that held the rudders. Then they hoisted the foresail to the wind and made for the beach. 41 But the ship struck a sandbar and ran aground. The bow stuck fast and would not move, and the stern was broken to pieces by the pounding of the surf.(U)

42 The soldiers planned to kill the prisoners to prevent any of them from swimming away and escaping. 43 But the centurion wanted to spare Paul’s life(V) and kept them from carrying out their plan. He ordered those who could swim to jump overboard first and get to land. 44 The rest were to get there on planks or on other pieces of the ship. In this way everyone reached land safely.(W)

1 Lord, our Lord,

1 Chronicles 7:1-8:40, Acts 27:1-20, Psalms 7:1-17, Proverbs 18:22

Today is the 9th day of July. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian. It is wonderful to be here with you today as we get sailing deeper and deeper into this week, and for that matter, as we sail deeper and deeper into the book of first Chronicles, which is what we’re working our way through. And as we mentioned a few days ago when we began this book, the first nine chapters, this is kind of like the famous genealogical portion of the Bible. And, so, we’ve discussed, you know, why it’s here and what its purpose was and it’s to remember, it’s to not forget who they were as they were carried away into exile. And, so, we’re moving…we’re moving our way through that territory, but we are nearing the end of that territory. today we’ll read first Chronicles chapters 7 and 8 and we’re reading from the New International Version this week.

Commentary:

Okay. So, let’s keep track of where we are. Obviously in the Old Testament, we are in the book of first Chronicles working our way through the genealogies of, you know, the people who had been carried into exile who are trying to remember their story, remember who they are, remember where they came from, remember who God is. And if you’ll just remember kind of back through the journey we’ve taken, that theme - who you are, where you’ve come from, who God is - is a dominant theme that has carried us thus far. And, so, it’s playing out in the story of the exile.

We get to the book of Acts, and, I mean, we notice the harrowing journey that the apostle Paul has been on. Exciting for sure. Lots of travel, lots of experiences, lots of faces, lots of voices, all of that for sure, but let’s remember, you know, he’s a prominent Pharisee, an up and comer a zealous person from God, then he meets Jesus and his life gets considerably more exciting but far more perilous. And Paul used every opportunity to share the good news about Jesus. And after he was arrested in Jerusalem he began to share the good news about Jesus with the most influential people in the world, but as a Roman citizen and a new governor in town, he appealed his case to Caesar because the governor wanted him to go to Jerusalem to be tried and he felt as if his chances in Rome would be better than in Jerusalem where there were people who had vowed, like, taken vows to assassinate him. So, he’s like, “you know, if I go back to Jerusalem I’m dead. So, best shot is to go to Rome.” And, so, in today’s reading that’s what happened. Paul set sail for Rome and he sailed from the coastal city of Caesarea Maritima, which is a spectacular ruin all the way until today. It’s sort of like a truly Romanized city in the Syrian province. So, you know, Rome is Rome and the Roman Empire is the Roman Empire and it’s kind of, mostly surrounding the Mediterranean Sea. And the furthest eastward would be the province of Syria which is what included the land, the promised land, that we know of from the Bible, but it was a distant outpost. It was the furthest eastward that you would go by ship in the Roman Empire. So, Caesarea Maritima was built by Herod the great who, I mean, crazy as this person was, paranoid and messed up as this person was, was a unparalleled developer. So, much from the Herodian era still stands today and is still epic. So, when Roman governors and dignitaries, and even Romans came that way, whether for business, whether to follow the via Maris, the road, whether to go to Jerusalem, like what…for whatever reason, Caesarea was built to be the playground, the town that would be legitimately and truly Roman. So, Paul had been incarcerated there for a couple years. He’d been held under house arrest for a couple years. He appealed his case to Rome. And, so, that’s where he sailed out in the Mediterranean Sea and we begin to follow the journey as the book of Acts tells us. So, he’s under the custody or in the custody of Julius who’s a centurion of the Imperial regiment and they’re gonna make several stops along the way. They do and then they’re trying to figure out, because the weather has been cooperating where they’re gonna spend the winter because they’re not gonna make it to Rome. And, so, there’s discussion and Paul prophetically speaks about the dangers of continuing, but the ship’s owner wants to continue on. And, so, the centurion continues on, and that’s where we left ourselves. The storm came as Paul said it would. It was so severe that they couldn’t find the sun or the stars, they couldn’t navigate. They couldn’t figure out anything. They were trying to lighten the ship and all hope was lost. They were resolved that they would probably die. That’s where we left them today.

Then in the Psalms we have these very, very provocative words, “whoever is pregnant with evil conceives trouble and gives birth to disillusionment.” So, these are very ancient words and the language from these ancient words that describe how deception comes into the world is pretty provocative. Conception is a very intimate act as is pregnancy and for that matter, as is birth. So, in this passage that David wrote in the Psalms today, he’s using poetry to show how wickedness privately and intimately schemes evil, which incubates trouble and then eventually grows up inside of us and we have to give birth and we give birth to deceit. So, that’s pretty scary stuff to be fooling around with of course, but we realize from the Bible how intimate this all is. And he continues on to show what it looks like. “Whoever digs a hole and scoops it out falls into the pit they’ve made. The trouble they cause recoils on them. Their violence comes down on their own heads.” So, basically, if you’re gonna give birth to lies then you have to understand that the result will be your own entrapment. And, so, wisdom is sitting here for us and it would be wise to remember this passage when we start fabricating a false reality, whether it’s, you know, a part of our inner monologue, the things that we tell ourselves inside of our own head that we makeup to justify things or any other kind of conversation or deed. Only the truth, only the truth will set us free. And when we look at our Savior and we consider being like Him, to be Christ like, one of things that we cannot ignore and is impossible to miss is that Jesus was true.

Prayer:

Holy Spirit, we invite You into that. Come, help us to understand the places that we are incubating evil, that we have conceived, that this has become an intimate part of who we are. And the deception that we give birth to is only bringing darkness into the world that ultimately only overshadows us. We’re hurting ourselves when we are untrue. So, come Holy Spirit into that because the truth is, if we start examining that it’s daunting because we’ve fabricated so much falseness around ourselves and around who we’re portraying that we are, and we’re enslaved by fear of each other because we’ll probably be judged by each other because we’re judging each other. It’s just a very, very slippery slope, a big vortex that we keep spinning downward into and the antidote is that we be true. Come Holy Spirit we pray into that we ask in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Good morning Daily Audio Bible family, this is Julie from New York. I’m calling today to reach out for Mike who called for his wife Heather for her anxiety, which is really bad right now. I’m asking all of us to pray for them. Praying for you Heather that the Lord protect you and shield you from all worry and heal every single bit of your anxiety and let you feel that instead of running in circles with worry you run to Him and let Him wrap His arms around you and heal you of all anxiety. And I pray for Mike, that he continue to be such a wonderful, loving supportive husband and support you during this time. And I guess I just…I want you to know Mike that I heard you and I’m praying very hard for you and your wife and I pray for full healing of that anxiety. Let it be gone. Hello DABbers, this is Jared the Encourager. I’m praying today for Mike and his wife Heather because she’s been having anxiety. I just heard this request on the 5th and as I was thinking about praying for Heather I looked up the name Heather and what it means, and it comes from a plant, Heather, which is a beautiful plant in the barren plains that has the ability to grow there where nothing else does, the Scottish Moors. This is a place where nothing would grow. They were barren and desolate but the Heather plant with its cheerful pink and white flowers has now grown and thrived and it’s made these once barren plains a beautiful loved place that’s no longer lonely. So, Lord I thank You for Heather and I thank You for Your hand in her life. I thank You for the care and concern of her husband Mike. I thank You that You are working to show her Your strength to not only survive through difficulty but to thrive in the most difficult of circumstances. I ask that she would turn her eyes to You, that she would be ever fascinated by Your love, that You would strengthen her husband Mike. With Your strength to see her through Your eyes, to love her with Your love, to serve her in the way that she needs to be served. In Jesus’ name. I’m so thankful for all of you. You are so wonderful, and you give me strength when you call in, your voices and your consistency. This is a wonderful community. And Brian, thank you for the birds that you play in the background. Hi DAB family. I have an issue. I thank God for __ I know but I have been falling for my best friend who has been saved and I’ve been praying against my feelings. I’ve been trying to create distance. I’ve been doing all the procedures possible to just get him out of my heart because I have my standards, I know what the Bible says, and I still need a godly man. So, I don’t want to settle for him just because he’s a nice guy, which he is. But I just ask for you to all please pray for me that I would be strong, and I wouldn’t bend and that I wouldn’t…that I would be able to move on from this and I be free from these feelings because it’s been a few months and I’m getting really tired because I just want them to be gone. So, I really covet your prayers family. Thank you and bye.

This is Kathy from Kentucky. I want to let you know I’m doing well in my retirement. I’m beginning to see God’s purpose for me. I’m getting rested and getting things done around the house and I’m finding plenty of volunteer opportunities. But in addition, I’m finding that God wants me to learn to have fun which I never did as a kid. So, now I feel like I am in my second adolescence learning to have fun. So, maybe I don’t know what else God has planned for me but it’s just a healing process and I ask you to continue to pray for me. My volunteer opportunities are with addiction, those trapped in addiction and diabetes, which we have a lot of here in Kentucky with the opioid crisis and epidemic and also with the diabetes epidemic. Tola, Puah,(B) Jashub and Shimron—four in all.

2 The sons of Tola:

Uzzi, Rephaiah, Jeriel, Jahmai, Ibsam and Samuel—heads of their families. During the reign of David, the descendants of Tola listed as fighting men in their genealogy numbered 22,600.

3 The son of Uzzi:

Izrahiah.

The sons of Izrahiah:

Michael, Obadiah, Joel and Ishiah. All five of them were chiefs. 4 According to their family genealogy, they had 36,000 men ready for battle, for they had many wives and children.

5 The relatives who were fighting men belonging to all the clans of Issachar, as listed in their genealogy, were 87,000 in all.

Benjamin

6 Three sons of Benjamin:(C)

Bela, Beker and Jediael.

7 The sons of Bela:

Ezbon, Uzzi, Uzziel, Jerimoth and Iri, heads of families—five in all. Their genealogical record listed 22,034 fighting men.

8 The sons of Beker:

Zemirah, Joash, Eliezer, Elioenai, Omri, Jeremoth, Abijah, Anathoth and Alemeth. All these were the sons of Beker. 9 Their genealogical record listed the heads of families and 20,200 fighting men.

10 The son of Jediael:

Bilhan.

The sons of Bilhan:

Jeush, Benjamin, Ehud, Kenaanah, Zethan, Tarshish and Ahishahar. 11 All these sons of Jediael were heads of families. There were 17,200 fighting men ready to go out to war.

12 The Shuppites and Huppites were the descendants of Ir, and the Hushites[a] the descendants of Aher.

Naphtali

13 The sons of Naphtali:(D)

Jahziel, Guni, Jezer and Shillem[b]—the descendants of Bilhah.

Manasseh

14 The descendants of Manasseh:(E)

Asriel was his descendant through his Aramean concubine. She gave birth to Makir the father of Gilead.(F) 15 Makir took a wife from among the Huppites and Shuppites. His sister’s name was Maakah.

Another descendant was named Zelophehad,(G) who had only daughters.

16 Makir’s wife Maakah gave birth to a son and named him Peresh. His brother was named Sheresh, and his sons were Ulam and Rakem.

17 The son of Ulam:

Bedan.

These were the sons of Gilead(H) son of Makir, the son of Manasseh. 18 His sister Hammoleketh gave birth to Ishhod, Abiezer(I) and Mahlah.

19 The sons of Shemida(J) were:

Ahian, Shechem, Likhi and Aniam.

Ephraim

20 The descendants of Ephraim:(K)

Shuthelah, Bered his son,

Tahath his son, Eleadah his son,

Tahath his son, 21 Zabad his son

and Shuthelah his son.

Ezer and Elead were killed by the native-born men of Gath, when they went down to seize their livestock. 22 Their father Ephraim mourned for them many days, and his relatives came to comfort him. 23 Then he made love to his wife again, and she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. He named him Beriah,[c] because there had been misfortune in his family. 24 His daughter was Sheerah, who built Lower and Upper Beth Horon(L) as well as Uzzen Sheerah.

25 Rephah was his son, Resheph his son,[d]

Telah his son, Tahan his son,

26 Ladan his son, Ammihud his son,

Elishama his son, 27 Nun his son

and Joshua his son.

28 Their lands and settlements included Bethel and its surrounding villages, Naaran to the east, Gezer(M) and its villages to the west, and Shechem and its villages all the way to Ayyah and its villages. 29 Along the borders of Manasseh were Beth Shan,(N) Taanach, Megiddo and Dor,(O) together with their villages. The descendants of Joseph son of Israel lived in these towns.

Asher

30 The sons of Asher:(P)

Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi and Beriah. Their sister was Serah.

31 The sons of Beriah:

Heber and Malkiel, who was the father of Birzaith.

32 Heber was the father of Japhlet, Shomer and Hotham and of their sister Shua.

33 The sons of Japhlet:

Pasak, Bimhal and Ashvath.

These were Japhlet’s sons.

34 The sons of Shomer:

Ahi, Rohgah,[e] Hubbah and Aram.

35 The sons of his brother Helem:

Zophah, Imna, Shelesh and Amal.

36 The sons of Zophah:

Suah, Harnepher, Shual, Beri, Imrah, 37 Bezer, Hod, Shamma, Shilshah, Ithran[f] and Beera.

38 The sons of Jether:

Jephunneh, Pispah and Ara.

39 The sons of Ulla:

Arah, Hanniel and Rizia.

40 All these were descendants of Asher—heads of families, choice men, brave warriors and outstanding leaders. The number of men ready for battle, as listed in their genealogy, was 26,000.

The Genealogy of Saul the Benjamite(Q)

8 Benjamin(R) was the father of Bela his firstborn,

Ashbel the second son, Aharah the third,

2 Nohah the fourth and Rapha the fifth.

3 The sons of Bela were:

Addar,(S) Gera, Abihud,[g] 4 Abishua, Naaman, Ahoah,(T) 5 Gera, Shephuphan and Huram.

6 These were the descendants of Ehud,(U) who were heads of families of those living in Geba and were deported to Manahath:

7 Naaman, Ahijah, and Gera, who deported them and who was the father of Uzza and Ahihud.

8 Sons were born to Shaharaim in Moab after he had divorced his wives Hushim and Baara. 9 By his wife Hodesh he had Jobab, Zibia, Mesha, Malkam, 10 Jeuz, Sakia and Mirmah. These were his sons, heads of families. 11 By Hushim he had Abitub and Elpaal.

12 The sons of Elpaal:

Eber, Misham, Shemed (who built Ono(V) and Lod with its surrounding villages), 13 and Beriah and Shema, who were heads of families of those living in Aijalon(W) and who drove out the inhabitants of Gath.(X)

14 Ahio, Shashak, Jeremoth, 15 Zebadiah, Arad, Eder, 16 Michael, Ishpah and Joha were the sons of Beriah.

17 Zebadiah, Meshullam, Hizki, Heber, 18 Ishmerai, Izliah and Jobab were the sons of Elpaal.

19 Jakim, Zikri, Zabdi, 20 Elienai, Zillethai, Eliel, 21 Adaiah, Beraiah and Shimrath were the sons of Shimei.

22 Ishpan, Eber, Eliel, 23 Abdon, Zikri, Hanan, 24 Hananiah, Elam, Anthothijah, 25 Iphdeiah and Penuel were the sons of Shashak.

26 Shamsherai, Shehariah, Athaliah, 27 Jaareshiah, Elijah and Zikri were the sons of Jeroham.

28 All these were heads of families, chiefs as listed in their genealogy, and they lived in Jerusalem.

29 Jeiel[h] the father[i] of Gibeon lived in Gibeon.(Y)

His wife’s name was Maakah, 30 and his firstborn son was Abdon, followed by Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner,[j] Nadab, 31 Gedor, Ahio, Zeker 32 and Mikloth, who was the father of Shimeah. They too lived near their relatives in Jerusalem.

33 Ner(Z) was the father of Kish,(AA) Kish the father of Saul(AB), and Saul the father of Jonathan, Malki-Shua, Abinadab and Esh-Baal.[k](AC)

34 The son of Jonathan:(AD)

Merib-Baal,[l](AE) who was the father of Micah.

35 The sons of Micah:

Pithon, Melek, Tarea and Ahaz.

36 Ahaz was the father of Jehoaddah, Jehoaddah was the father of Alemeth, Azmaveth and Zimri, and Zimri was the father of Moza. 37 Moza was the father of Binea; Raphah was his son, Eleasah his son and Azel his son.

38 Azel had six sons, and these were their names:

Azrikam, Bokeru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah and Hanan. All these were the sons of Azel.

39 The sons of his brother Eshek:

Ulam his firstborn, Jeush the second son and Eliphelet the third. 40 The sons of Ulam were brave warriors who could handle the bow. They had many sons and grandsons—150 in all.

All these were the descendants of Benjamin.(AF)

Acts 27:1-20

Paul Sails for Rome

27 When it was decided that we(A) would sail for Italy,(B) Paul and some other prisoners were handed over to a centurion named Julius, who belonged to the Imperial Regiment.(C) 2 We boarded a ship from Adramyttium about to sail for ports along the coast of the province of Asia,(D) and we put out to sea. Aristarchus,(E) a Macedonian(F) from Thessalonica,(G) was with us.

3 The next day we landed at Sidon;(H) and Julius, in kindness to Paul,(I) allowed him to go to his friends so they might provide for his needs.(J) 4 From there we put out to sea again and passed to the lee of Cyprus because the winds were against us.(K) 5 When we had sailed across the open sea off the coast of Cilicia(L) and Pamphylia,(M) we landed at Myra in Lycia. 6 There the centurion found an Alexandrian ship(N) sailing for Italy(O) and put us on board. 7 We made slow headway for many days and had difficulty arriving off Cnidus. When the wind did not allow us to hold our course,(P) we sailed to the lee of Crete,(Q) opposite Salmone. 8 We moved along the coast with difficulty and came to a place called Fair Havens, near the town of Lasea.

9 Much time had been lost, and sailing had already become dangerous because by now it was after the Day of Atonement.[a](R) So Paul warned them, 10 “Men, I can see that our voyage is going to be disastrous and bring great loss to ship and cargo, and to our own lives also.”(S) 11 But the centurion, instead of listening to what Paul said, followed the advice of the pilot and of the owner of the ship. 12 Since the harbor was unsuitable to winter in, the majority decided that we should sail on, hoping to reach Phoenix and winter there. This was a harbor in Crete,(T) facing both southwest and northwest.

The Storm

13 When a gentle south wind began to blow, they saw their opportunity; so they weighed anchor and sailed along the shore of Crete. 14 Before very long, a wind of hurricane force,(U) called the Northeaster, swept down from the island. 15 The ship was caught by the storm and could not head into the wind; so we gave way to it and were driven along. 16 As we passed to the lee of a small island called Cauda, we were hardly able to make the lifeboat(V) secure, 17 so the men hoisted it aboard. Then they passed ropes under the ship itself to hold it together. Because they were afraid they would run aground(W) on the sandbars of Syrtis, they lowered the sea anchor[b] and let the ship be driven along. 18 We took such a violent battering from the storm that the next day they began to throw the cargo overboard.(X) 19 On the third day, they threw the ship’s tackle overboard with their own hands. 20 When neither sun nor stars appeared for many days and the storm continued raging, we finally gave up all hope of being saved.

1 Lord my God, I take refuge(B) in you;
save and deliver me(C) from all who pursue me,(D)

and rip me to pieces with no one to rescue(F) me.

4 if I have repaid my ally with evil

1 Chronicles 5:18-6:81, Acts 26:1-32, Psalms 6:1-10, Proverbs 18:20-21

Today is the 8th day of July. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian. It is a great to be here with you today as we dive into our work week and as we kind of come off of the Daily Audio Bible long walk yesterday. And those pictures are still coming in, and I love it. I hope you had a wonderful time and were able to participate. If you weren’t, I mean, you can do this anytime. You can go for a long one with God anytime…actually…hopefully what’s happened is you just modeled for yourself what kind of peace could be available if you slowed the world on and actually just mark off a day. So, hopefully it was a wonderful time for you. It certainly was rich. It is every year that I…that I draw that circle around a day and set it aside. So, it’s good to be here with you refreshed and ready to go into this week. We’re working our way to the genealogies in first Chronicles at this point. We are also working through the drama that is in the apostle Paul’s life now that he’s been arrested. The Hebrew people, his own people want him dead. They’re trying to find some sort of way, either through the Romans or through an ambush, through some way, to kill him and he’s actually now being protected because he’s incarcerated. So, as things stand in the book of Acts, there’s a new governor in town. The religious leaders of the Hebrew people are petitioning for Paul to be executed. The governor asks if Paul will go to Jerusalem to stand trial and Paul appeals to Caesar. And we will pick up with that story when we get to the New Testament, but first we’re reading from the New International Version this week. First Chronicles chapter 5 verse 18 through 6:81.

Commentary:

Okay. So, in our reading from the book of Acts today. Paul again, and this is becoming a theme, he had the opportunity to share the gospel while he was defending himself against the accusations of the Jewish religious leaders, and he was doing this in front of very, very powerful people, people that Paul would not have been able to get a meeting with, right? So, in this case he’s in front of the Roman governor of Syria, so like a province of the Roman Empire and his name was Festus, but he’s also speaking in front of King Herod Agrippa the second and the king’s sister Bernice. And their together, but I mean there’s a ton of historical speculation that their together because they have an incestuous relationship, but it goes deeper. Agrippa and Bernice, they were both siblings of Drusilla. So, Drusilla was the wife of the previous governor, Felix. And as we read in the book of Acts, Felix would call Paul and talk to Paul on a continual ongoing basis for a couple years. So, Paul is like intimately sharing, like not just like a passing message, but intimately sharing the details of the gospel and his testimony to high ranking Roman officials as well as royalty while being protected from assassination by the Romans. It’s pretty incredible. And, so, he’s giving this testimony today in front of Bernice and Agrippa and King Agrippa’s like, “do you think you can persuade me to become a Christian so quickly?” And Paul’s like, “you know, like, quick or not isn’t the point. I just pray that you and everybody else here comes to know Jesus. I pray that you would be like me except for the chains.” So, it’s important to see what’s happening here. Paul was told by the Holy Spirit to go back to Jerusalem off of his missionary journeys and he was arrested, right? So, things look bad and people want to kill him, but Paul is also being allowed, and even in invited to speak the truth of the gospel to the most influential people in the entire region, in the whole world at that time. So, he openly shared the gospel of Jesus with two different Roman governors, with the entire Jewish high Council, with the King and two of the king’s sisters. That’s pretty big, like that’s pretty far up the ladder but Paul wasn’t starstruck by any of them. He didn’t try to bribe, he didn’t blubber, he didn’t try to mastermind his freedom or manipulate the situation. He just shared the good news even though he was a prisoner and it was his imprisonment that opened the door to this kind of interaction. And, so, what we have in the example of the apostle Paul is a pretty good look at…it’s a pretty good look at what complete devotion to Jesus, the kind of loyalty that could only be borne out of being fully convinced, right, and involved in an intimate relationship. He was willing to die over this and that is pretty devoted. And Paul’s testimony brought…I mean…it brought disruption everywhere he went, because it was forcing a reinterpretation of ancient customs and rituals. That was the problem. Paul wasn’t trying to say, “we all need to do away with Moses. We all need to forget about Abraham and just move forward. Let’s figure something new out.” He wasn’t trying to do that. He was a trained scholarly Pharisee who was looking at his own religion and then looking at his own religion through the eyes of a rabbi, right, with the Messiah, what Jesus had been saying and it was clicking, it was making sense, but it was disrupting everything because it was a reinterpretation. But in that reinterpretation, God’s loving heart and personal interests in restoring humanity was revealed. And it’s so weird, right, because we has believers, we can be like, “why…why wouldn’t the whole world want this kind of peace? Like, why wouldn’t the whole world want God’s kingdom on earth as it is in heaven.” But we see that Paul experienced the same kind of things Jesus faced. And all we can really conclude from that is that Jesus was right. The light came into the darkness but people like the cover of the darkness better because they can hide. And, so, the disruptions we see around Paul are really simply the byproduct of what awakening does, like when a person sees the light and opens their eyes and can see. So, let’s remember again that it's…it’s the same Spirit, the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead, same Holy Spirit that compelled Paul to bring light and good news even in spite of the circumstances which is the story we’re reading now. It’s the same story for us, we’ll bring light into the darkness. We’re supposed to be bringing light in the darkness wherever we step foot. Is that true of our lives??

Prayer:

Holy Spirit, we invite You into that. We’re seeing examples of the formative years of the church, we’re seeing the kinds of things that people were dealing with and the kind of culture that they were in while they were dealing with it and we can begin to realize, yeah, “it’s a bit of a different, it’s a different part of the world and different customs, but not as distant as we might think” So, Father, we invite You into all of the things that we’re reading. Every day You’re bringing up something within us, every day Your touching something about us. And, so, we invite You into this. We’re watching the bravery and the courage but we’re also watching the conviction and the intimacy of the apostle Paul with You that would cause him to do this and we think of ourselves and we invite You to show us the entanglements, the things that would keep our loyalties divided, the things that would keep us from surrender to You. Come Holy Spirit we pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Hi DAB family this is Lori from __ North Carolina, now traveling North America with my husband John, our cat Rosie and a truck __ . This is for Laura Lee from Boynton Beach who called on June 12th about her mom’s salvation, about the wounds that can be inflicted between a mother and daughter. I’m sorry it’s taken me this long to respond but I wanted you to know the story of my mom. I became a Christian in 1975 and began praying for her salvation from that day forward. But it seemed my prayers did nothing and in later years she developed Alzheimer’s and she lashed out at me in anger and hatred where I had once been the one closest to her and the heartache was almost intolerable. But we kept on praying for her salvation even though the disease ravaged her memory and her personality and eventually she stopped eating, began to lapse into delusions, and long comatose periods as if she wasn’t going to be with us much longer. Then the Lord moved the heart of a friend of ours who offered to come and pray. And I told him she’d likely wouldn’t even know we’d be in the room, but he came anyway. On that morning we walked into a room and were greeted by the miraculous sight of her sitting up in bed eating a hearty breakfast and fully coherent. Our friend shared the gospel with her. She asked questions to make sure she understood and to show that she just wasn’t just being polite for her visitors and she gave her life to Christ. She was born again 39 years after I began praying for her salvation. Even though it had appeared that Alzheimer’s had already stolen her away. Several days later my mom died in her sleep. I just wanted to share that story with you to let you know she’s with Jesus now, to encourage you and everyone else that’s been praying for a loved one for very long time. So, please don’t ever give up even when it looks like all has been lost. Our God is faithful and awesome and His word will never return to him void.

I’m struggling trying to find God’s will for my life. I feel like giving up. He tells us…the word says to not worry about what I’m gonna eat or what I’m gonna do but He doesn’t seem to answer my prayers. He seems far away and I’m giving up hope. I don’t know how much more of this I can take.

Hi family this is his little Cherry in Canada and I would like to request prayer for myself. I don’t feel like I’m doing very well. I’m still full of gratitude for the miracle of the wedding weekend. I’m so grateful to God for how He answered all of our prayers for my daughter’s wedding, but I am really struggling now. I’m not even sure how they articulate exactly. Of course, I’m feeling sad that…that I have an empty nest. I’m feeling tired, which is to be expected after such whirlwind wedding after the last nine months of preparation but I’m also feeling really discouraged about my health. I’m having real trouble with my lower back and tailbone. I haven’t been able to sit, not for long anyway, for the past few weeks and I’ve had to give up driving because I can’t sit. It’s really hard to get comfortable. My lower tail…back and tailbone have been sore for, oh, probably over six months but it’s just getting worse and no one seems to know why. I went to the doctor today and she was very unhelpful. And basically, just said, “hmmmm…I don’t know.” So, I’m feeling really discouraged. I’m feeling down because I just don’t feel like I have much purpose anymore. All of the ministry stuff that I have been involved with previously, I’m not doing anymore mostly because of my health. So, I just would really appreciate prayer that God would encourage me. Thank you so much family. Bye for now.

Hi Daily Audio Bible, this is Rebecca from Michigan. It is 4th of July. Happy 4th of July everybody and happy birthday to Jill. Hey, you know what you guys? I was going up the elevator and this guy, he put something in my heart. Like, some people…it’s like an older guy…and he said, “like some people don’t know where their sleeping tonight, what they’re eating tonight”, all this stuff, “some people don’t have a place to put their head on a pillow.” So, like I was so like God has that on my heart like people that are homeless He has…like…once in a while I see this one guy with a dog, he’d even trying to get support for his dog and the dog and him are homeless. So, it’s like I always wonder how people get that way, how they end up homeless. And, you know, I didn’t think about it but it’s something to thank God for, that if you have a roof over your head, a meal every day, I car to take you to work, gas in it to take you there, and if you have cloths on your back, you basically are rich. I mean I know it’s like not millions of dollars, but you have things that you need, basic needs. And it’s like, wow! There’s something to thank God for, the fact that you have these things that get you where you need to go, to make an income, to put a roof over your head, and food in your belly, and cloths on your back, and a car to get you to work, and gasoline to put in it. This is amazing that God has truly blessed us lots of times.

Hi family, it’s Shannon from Texas and I have the very best news. The best day of my life happened about a week ago. Jadrian my son that I have been calling in for for about four years since I started listening to the Daily Audio Bible, I’ve called in for him many times. We have had…I could write a book about __. I shouldn’t even talk about it at this point but just leading up to what happened the other day when I felt compelled to…I’m sitting and talking with my boss and…there’s just so much going on we’re I felt like…and even my son has mentioned he’d felt like he had these demonic attacks lots of times. And so much has gone on that I’ve called in about before about my son __ , about murder and __ practically proclaiming that, you know, he hated God and, you know, just even talking about Satan and the things that __. Too much to tell right now but I just prayed and prayed and prayed that my son would give his life to and his heart to God and I just didn’t happen the way that it just did out of the blue because I didn’t see anything happening. And the other day, my mom and I were talking and all of a sudden, I felt compelled to call in…not call in but get on the Facebook page and put my son on there. And literally a few minutes later he came in and sat down and said he wanted to pray and gave his heart to the Lord. My time is up. I love you guys. Thank you. I love you, love you. Bye-bye.
