Ezekiel 12:1-14:11, Hebrews 7:1-17, Psalm 105:37-45, Proverbs 27:3

Today is the fifth day of November, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian and it is a joy and a privilege and an honor to be here with you today, as we gather around the Global Campfire and take the next step forward together and bring another one of our weeks, that we get to spend together, to a close. Which means that we will enter the first full week of this 11th month of the year, tomorrow. But regardless of where we are on the calendar, we are here to do something very specific, and that is to take the next step forward together on our journey through the Scriptures, that next step leads us back into the book of Ezekiel. We’re reading from the English Standard Version this week and today, Ezekiel chapter 12 verse 1 through 14 verse 11.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word and we thank You for another week. And the weeks are beginning to wind down. And that brings a sense of melancholy, but also a sense of excitement. We have some of the busiest weeks of the year that are, that are out in front of us. So, as we just mark where we are in time and look at what’s going on, we thank You for Your faithfulness in our lives and we confess, yet again, our utter dependence upon You and our ultimate need of You and Your guidance and direction in our lives. We thank You once again for the gift of the Scriptures in our lives, transforming us, leading us on the narrow path that leads to life. So, come Holy Spirit and plant what we’ve read this week into our hearts. We look forward longingly, to all that You have yet to reveal to us through Your word this year, lead and guide us, we pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Announcements:

dailyaudiobible.com that is home base, that is where you can find out what’s going on around here. The Daily Audio Bible app will do that in the palm of your hand, and you can download that for free, wherever it is, whatever app store works with your phone or your tablet. And so, check that out, search for Daily Audio Bible, download the app and move forward from there.

We have been talking about what’s going on around here because it’s, it’s been kind of release week for a brand-new resource here in the Global Campfire community. It’s called Sleep, A Contemplative Journey and it is a resource that is designed to create space and that musical space and atmosphere for rest, for calm, for drifting away into a peaceful, restorative sleep. And that is something that we each need and that is something that will be challenged as we move forward into the more busy portions of the year, even the most stressful portions even though they’re joyous, some of the most joyous moments in the year, leading up to and around all of that can be an awful lot of stress, trying to figure out an awful lot of things and that can find its way into our sleep. And so, this resource has been created to give us space, it feels restful, it feels calming and that just kind of lulls us into a deep, restorative sleep. So, that resource is available now, came out this week. It is available wherever it is that you stream your music or purchase your downloadable music like iTunes, etc. worldwide, all the different distributors, all the different streaming services throughout the world should have Sleep, A Contemplative Journey. And so, you can check that out and I hope that you will.

If you want to partner with the Daily Audio Bible. Thank you, humbly, thank you, we wouldn’t be here if we weren’t in this together and so thank you. There is a link on the homepage at dailyaudiobible.com. If you’re using the app, you can press the Give button in the upper right-hand corner or the mailing address is P.O. And that’s it for today, I’m Brian, I love you and I’ll be waiting for you here, tomorrow.

Prayer and Encouragements:

Good morning family, this is Inna from London. Praise God, we made it to November, today, the 1st, we made it to the 11th month. We praise our Father; we thank Him for bringing us so far. Oh Brian, I waited yesterday, up till midnight, to get my copy of Sleep, because I had pre-ordered it. So, I used that yesterday. I haven’t really, I’ve been off from work, I haven’t been able to sleep that much. You know, so I’ve been off for over 4 weeks now. So, yesterday, oh goodness sake. I waited until midnight to get my copy. I don’t even know how long I was listening to sleep before I feel asleep. And I woke up in the middle of night and just put it on again. It’s so soothing. My goodness, it’s so soothing. And hearing your voice Brian, just put me to sleep. Oh, I haven’t had this kind of sleep for a very long time. Because I toss and turn and turn the whole night. But yesterday, I slept like a baby. I’m just waking up now you know. I woke up in the morning and went back to sleep, it’s actually 11 o’clock. I’m just waking up now. This resource, guys, you won’t want to miss out. Everybody’s that’s having problems sleeping or just wants a soothing voice, go for it, go for it.

Yes, DAB family, praise the Lord, this is Pastor Steven in Southwest Ohio. Just wanting to call and give God praise for His continued mercies and blessings every day. And for all of you who call in, and I’ve heard so many requests, concerning of course many different things. And I just want to say, the Lord is in control. The Holy Spirit is leading and directing all of you. Even for those of you who seem to be downhearted and discouraged or physically not well. Just want to lift up a prayer for you right now. Heavenly Father, in Jesus name, and through the power and presence of Your Holy Spirit and by his precious blood, touch and heal and mend as only You can, and we’ll give you the glory. For every name that’s been called in, I lay at your feet. I thank You for Your blessings upon me and my family. And just give You all the praise. Look forward to talking with you all again and may God richly continue to bless in every way. Take care, bye bye now.

Hello Daily Audio Bible family, this is Ethan from the greater Phoenix area, Arizona, United States. I’d like to pray for the man who called on October 30th, the one who applied to over 300 jobs and just sounded like he was at absolute rock bottom. I, my heart broke for this man. I remember him saying he wanted people to pray that he, that God doesn’t wake him up in the morning or that God wipes his name and any joy associated from it, in the history books. If you’re listening sir, I am not gonna pray for that. I’m not gonna pray for that. I’m gonna pray for something else. I’m gonna pray that God renews your sense of joy, that shows that this time in your life, though is devastating and as unbearably painful as it may be, He’s not done with you. You’re still valuable to Him.

He Daily Audio Bible Family, this is Joyful James and just wanted to pray for Mikayla from Glosster. And just to let you know Mikayla, I really enjoy hearing from you. I enjoy hearing your voice and all that you’ve done with the Daily Audio Bible community. You truly are a gem. I want to lift up your family in prayer today. So, let’s do it. Alright Holy Spirit let’s go. We have a family that just needs You, Lord. Thank You for being about family. Thank You that family is not of this planet, it is of a Heavenly Devine system that You have created Lord. And when we have family and do family, it just pleases you so well. It’s a Heavenly design. I’m so grateful for our Lord. Thank You for this new marriage, even though it is a ten-year-old relationship, all that bounty and the open gates of blessing through submitting to You Lord, is truly amazing. We want to bless Mark and Sue in their marriage. Lord, and that it would prosper, and that prosperity would flow and trickle down into every aspect of their lives, their kids and their kids and their kids and so forth. We lift up Taylor right now, and his mental capacity to be only in the moment. I ask that he would, You would open his eyes to a more grand picture, Lord. It seems like when we get discouraged, we get so focused on just what’s in front of us. Lord, I ask that he would see and understand the great grand picture that You have for him, Lord. I want to life up his parents Jay and Kate, Lord, as they are leading and working with Taylor, Lord. Just their love being poured out in extravagant ways as parents, Lord, I thank You for that relationship. Lord, You are amazing and thank You for working in this family.

Ezekiel 12:1-14:11

Judah's Captivity Symbolized

12 The word of the Lord came to me: (A)“Son of man, you dwell in the midst of (B)a rebellious house, (C)who have eyes to see, but see not, who have ears to hear, but hear not, for they are (D)a rebellious house. As for you, son of man, prepare for yourself (E)an exile's baggage, and go into exile by day (F)in their sight. You shall go like an exile from your place to another place (G)in their sight. (H)Perhaps they will understand, though[a] they are a rebellious house. You shall bring out your baggage by day in their sight, as baggage for exile, and you shall go out yourself (I)at evening in their sight, as those do who must go into exile. In their sight (J)dig through the wall, and bring your baggage out through it. In their sight you shall lift the baggage upon your shoulder and carry it out at dusk. You shall cover your face that you may not see the land, for I have made you (K)a sign for the house of Israel.”

(L)And I did as I was commanded. (M)I brought out my baggage by day, as baggage for exile, and in the evening I dug through the wall with my own hands. I brought out my baggage at dusk, carrying it on my shoulder in their sight.

In the morning the word of the Lord came to me: (N)“Son of man, has not the house of Israel, (O)the rebellious house, said to you, (P)‘What are you doing?’ 10 Say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God: This oracle concerns[b] (Q)the prince in Jerusalem and all the house of Israel who are in it.’[c] 11 Say, (R)‘I am a sign for you: (S)as I have done, so shall it be done to them. They shall go into exile, into captivity.’ 12 (T)And the prince who is among them shall lift his baggage upon his shoulder at dusk, and shall go out. (U)They shall dig through the wall to bring him out through it. (V)He shall cover his face, that he may not see the land with his eyes. 13 (W)And I will spread my net over him, and he shall be taken in my snare. And (X)I will bring him to Babylon, the land of the Chaldeans, (Y)yet he shall not see it, and he shall die there. 14 (Z)And I will scatter toward every wind all who are around him, his helpers and all his troops, (AA)and I will unsheathe the sword after them. 15 (AB)And they shall know that I am the Lord, when I disperse them among the nations and scatter them among the countries. 16 (AC)But I will let a few of them escape from the sword, from famine and pestilence, that they may declare all their abominations among the nations where they go, (AD)and may know that I am the Lord.”

17 And the word of the Lord came to me: 18 (AE)“Son of man, (AF)eat your bread with quaking, and drink water with trembling and with anxiety. 19 And say to the people of the land, Thus says the Lord God concerning the inhabitants of Jerusalem in the land of Israel: (AG)They shall eat their bread with anxiety, (AH)and drink water in dismay. In this way (AI)her land will be stripped of all it contains, (AJ)on account of the violence of all those who dwell in it. 20 (AK)And the inhabited cities shall be laid waste, and the land shall become a desolation; and you shall know that I am the Lord.”

21 And the word of the Lord came to me: 22 “Son of man, (AL)what is this proverb that you[d] have about the land of Israel, saying, (AM)‘The days grow long, and every vision comes to nothing’? 23 Tell them therefore, ‘Thus says the Lord God: I will put an end to this proverb, and they shall no more use it as a proverb in Israel.’ But say to them, (AN)The days are near, and the fulfillment[e] of every vision. 24 (AO)For there shall be no more any (AP)false vision or flattering divination within the house of Israel. 25 For I am the Lord; I will speak (AQ)the word that I will speak, and it will be performed. (AR)It will no longer be delayed, but in your days, (AS)O rebellious house, I will speak the word and perform it, declares the Lord God.”

26 And the word of the Lord came to me: 27 “Son of man, behold, they of the house of Israel say, (AT)‘The vision that he sees is (AU)for many days from now, and he prophesies of times far off.’ 28 Therefore say to them, Thus says the Lord God: (AV)None of my words will be delayed any longer, (AW)but the word that I speak will be performed, declares the Lord God.”

False Prophets Condemned

13 The word of the Lord came to me: (AX)“Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel, who are prophesying, and say to those (AY)who prophesy from their own hearts: ‘Hear the word of the Lord!’ Thus says the Lord God, Woe to the foolish prophets who follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing! Your prophets have been like jackals among ruins, O Israel. (AZ)You have not gone up into the breaches, or built up a wall for the house of Israel, that it might stand in battle in the day of the Lord. (BA)They have seen false visions and lying divinations. They say, ‘Declares the Lord,’ (BB)when the Lord has not sent them, and yet they expect him to fulfill their word. Have you not seen a false vision and uttered a lying divination, (BC)whenever you have said, ‘Declares the Lord,’ although I have not spoken?”

Therefore thus says the Lord God: “Because you have uttered falsehood and seen lying visions, therefore behold, (BD)I am against you, declares the Lord God. My hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and who give lying divinations. They shall not be in the council of my people, (BE)nor be enrolled in the register of the house of Israel, (BF)nor shall they enter the land of Israel. (BG)And you shall know that I am the Lord God. 10 Precisely because they have misled my people, (BH)saying, ‘Peace,’ when there is no peace, and because, when the people build a wall, (BI)these prophets smear it with whitewash,[f] 11 say to those who smear it with whitewash that it shall fall! (BJ)There will be a deluge of rain, and you, O great hailstones, will fall, and a stormy wind break out. 12 And when the wall falls, will it not be said to you, ‘Where is the coating with which you smeared it?’ 13 Therefore thus says the Lord God: (BK)I will make a stormy wind break out in my wrath, (BL)and there shall be a deluge of rain in my anger, and great hailstones in wrath to make a full end. 14 And I will break down the wall that you have smeared with whitewash, and bring it down to the ground, so that its foundation will be laid bare. When it falls, you shall perish in the midst of it, (BM)and you shall know that I am the Lord. 15 Thus will I spend my wrath upon the wall and upon those who have smeared it with whitewash, and I will say to you, The wall is no more, nor those who smeared it, 16 the prophets of Israel who prophesied concerning Jerusalem (BN)and saw visions of peace for her, when there was no peace, declares the Lord God.

17 “And you, son of man, (BO)set your face against (BP)the daughters of your people, (BQ)who prophesy out of their own hearts. Prophesy against them 18 and say, Thus says the Lord God: Woe to the women (BR)who sew magic bands upon all wrists, and (BS)make veils for the heads of persons of every stature, in (BT)the hunt for souls! Will you hunt down souls belonging to my people and keep your own souls alive? 19 You have profaned me among my people (BU)for handfuls of barley (BV)and for pieces of bread, putting to death souls who should not die and keeping alive souls who should not live, by your lying to my people, who listen to lies.

20 “Therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, (BW)I am against (BX)your magic bands with which you hunt the souls like birds, and I will tear them from your arms, and I will let the souls whom you hunt go free, the souls like birds. 21 Your veils also I will tear off and (BY)deliver my people out of your hand, and they shall be no more in your hand as prey, (BZ)and you shall know that I am the Lord. 22 (CA)Because you have disheartened the righteous falsely, although I have not grieved him, and (CB)you have encouraged the wicked, that (CC)he should not turn from his evil way to save his life, 23 (CD)therefore you shall no more see false visions nor practice divination. I will deliver my people out of your hand. And you shall know that I am the Lord.”

Idolatrous Elders Condemned

14 Then certain of the (CE)elders of Israel came to me (CF)and sat before me. And the word of the Lord came to me: (CG)“Son of man, these men have taken their idols into their hearts, and set (CH)the stumbling block of their iniquity before their faces. (CI)Should I indeed let myself be consulted by them? Therefore speak to them and say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Any one of the house of Israel who takes his idols into his heart and sets the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face, and yet comes to the prophet, (CJ)I the Lord will answer him as he comes with the multitude of his idols, (CK)that I may lay hold of the hearts of the house of Israel, (CL)who are all estranged from me through their idols.

“Therefore say to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord God: (CM)Repent and turn away from your idols, and turn away your faces from all your abominations. For any one of the house of Israel, or of the strangers who sojourn in Israel, (CN)who separates himself from me, taking his idols into his heart and putting the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face, and yet comes to a prophet to consult me through him, (CO)I the Lord will answer him myself. And (CP)I will set my face against that man; I (CQ)will make him a sign and a byword (CR)and cut him off from the midst of my people, (CS)and you shall know that I am the Lord. And if the prophet is deceived and speaks a word, (CT)I, the Lord, have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand against him and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel. 10 And they shall bear their punishment[g]—the punishment of the prophet and the punishment of the inquirer shall be alike— 11 that the house of Israel may no more go astray from me, nor (CU)defile themselves anymore with all their transgressions, (CV)but that they may be my people and I may be their God, declares the Lord God.”

Hebrews 7:1-17

The Priestly Order of Melchizedek

For this (A)Melchizedek, king of (B)Salem, priest of (C)the Most High God, met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, and to him Abraham apportioned a tenth part of everything. He is first, by translation of his name, king of righteousness, and then he is also king of Salem, that is, king of peace. He is without father or mother (D)or genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but resembling the Son of God he continues a priest forever.

See how great this man was to whom Abraham (E)the patriarch gave a tenth of the spoils! And (F)those descendants of Levi who receive the priestly office have a commandment in the law to take tithes from the people, that is, from their brothers,[a] though these also are descended from Abraham. But this man (G)who does not have his descent from them received tithes from Abraham and blessed (H)him who had the promises. It is beyond dispute that the inferior is blessed by the superior. In the one case tithes are received by mortal men, but in the other case, by one (I)of whom it is testified that (J)he lives. One might even say that Levi himself, who receives tithes, paid tithes through Abraham, 10 for he was still in the loins of his ancestor when Melchizedek met him.

Jesus Compared to Melchizedek

11 (K)Now if perfection had been attainable through the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people received the law), what further need would there have been for another priest to arise after the order of Melchizedek, rather than one named after the order of Aaron? 12 For when there is a change in the priesthood, there is necessarily a change in the law as well. 13 For the one of whom these things are spoken belonged to another tribe, from which no one has ever served at the altar. 14 For it is evident that our Lord was descended (L)from Judah, and in connection with that tribe Moses said nothing about priests.

15 This becomes even more evident when another priest arises in the likeness of Melchizedek, 16 who has become a priest, not on the basis of a legal requirement concerning bodily descent, but by the power of an indestructible life. 17 For it is witnessed of him,

(M)“You are a priest forever,
after the order of Melchizedek.”

Psalm 105:37-45

37 Then he brought out Israel with (A)silver and gold,
and there was none among his tribes who stumbled.
38 (B)Egypt was glad when they departed,
for (C)dread of them had fallen upon it.

39 He (D)spread a cloud for a covering,
and fire to give light by night.
40 (E)They asked, and he (F)brought quail,
and gave them (G)bread from heaven in abundance.
41 He opened the rock, and (H)water gushed out;
it flowed through (I)the desert like a river.
42 For he (J)remembered his holy promise,
and (K)Abraham, his servant.

43 So he brought his people out with joy,
his (L)chosen ones with (M)singing.
44 And he (N)gave them the lands of the nations,
and they took possession of the fruit of the peoples' toil,
45 that they might (O)keep his statutes
and (P)observe his laws.
(Q)Praise the Lord!

Today is the 4th day of November welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian it is wonderful to be here with you today as we get ourselves moved into this brand-new month and continue putting one foot in front of the other, picking up where we left off and moving forward in the Scriptures. So, we are reading from the English Standard Version this week and we have moved into the book of Ezekiel. Today we will read Ezekiel chapters 10 and 11.

Commentary:

Okay. So, I have been listening to a lot of music that is old and actually this is kind of been going on for several years now. And it’s not I only listen old music, but it’s that I have found in the melodies of my childhood like all kinds of childhood memories are there attached to the songs. And, so, you know, I hear all the songs that I can kinda remember. I was just too little to really have favorite bands or favorite songs, but I can remember. And there was this song…I don’t remember the name of it…maybe looking for love. I don’t know, but it was like looking…I’m looking for love in all the wrong places, I’m looking for love in too many faces, and that’s about all I can remember from it. Like I can remember the melody but I won't…I won’t offer that. I can remember being just a little guy and my mom kind of explaining the song to me like…like you don’t ever look for love in the wrong places will you? Will…you won’t do that, will you? And of course, I said no and all of that. And, so, even that little piece of melody or piece of lyric that I can remember is attached to a memory of my mom trying to instruct her little…her little son in the way that he should go. And that sentiment is really found in what we read in the book of Proverbs today. And we had to verses. “Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring. Let another phrase you and not your own mouth, a stranger and not your own lips.” Now we probably have been around or even know well people to listen to the sentiment and that proverb. These are people who are not waiting for others to praise them. They go seeking it out and that materializes in all kinds of ways. They will insert themselves into every conversation that they can get themselves into and they will flip that conversation onto themselves in short order, right? So, you’re talking to a friend, you’re comparing parenting notes, you’re talking about your kids and before you know it you’re talking about their kids. And it’s not really just comparing notes. The whole thing was shifted. Regardless of the topic, they’re listening to what you have to say. Even if you’re pouring out your soul, they’re listening for the opportunity to dive in and begin to shift it. Even if it’s just, you know, I know how that feels, I remember this one time when… And that’s it. Whatever you’re going through is gone and now you’re here to hear them talk. They’re looking for love in all the wrong places because the person who attaches themselves to other people, only to get validated or affirmed or loved and they to shift everything onto themselves in some kind of weird conversational maneuver so that five minutes later you…you go wait a second, we were talking about a totally different thing. How is that this keep…keeps getting shifted back onto something that you’re going through? And so often comparison enters these kinds of conversations. You’re going through something. They’ve gone through it, but they’re killing it now. They’re doing awesome now. You should follow the pathways that they have taken to their bliss and superiority. And so often these things come from deep-seated places of actual insecurity, that just simply needs to be filled. We’re looking for love in all the wrong places. The proverb says, let another praise you and not your own mouth, a stranger and not your own lips. When we’re looking for love, affirmation, validation in all the wrong places, if it’s something that we have to conjure up, if we have to arrive in a place, set up the lights, figure out where we’re gonna shine the lights on that seat, sit in that seat, and shine all the light on ourselves we’re looking the wrong places. And the irony is that people like that. And we may be a person like that. So, like we may have some inner work to do for some outer examination to just see how our communication style actually is and how it lands on people. We all know people like this. We are all a person capable of this, the grandstanding, the conceit, the bragging. And the funny thing is, when you’re around a person like that you be kind, you can be tolerant, but you don’t usually…like you usually walk away feeling like…ehhh…like what was that? And when you’ve had to move through a session like that and you had this conversation and then this conversation got flipped and switched and them you know it and then you know it going into the next one. You start building up this idea of what’s gonna happen and you begin to avoid those kinds of situations. And, so, what the person actually needs, which is just to be seen or just to be heard, or just to be affirmed is being demanded and extracted from other people. And usually that’s not appreciated and so it becomes repellent. And, so, the very thing that the person is looking for is the very thing that they can’t get. After a while it runs its course and people begin to avoid. Usually what’s actually needed is trusted, deep, loyal, abiding relationships and friendships with people that have permission to speak into our lives frankly and that have given us permission to speak lovingly and frankly and honestly into their lives. That feels a lot more like being seen and actually validated or affirmed then demanding it of people through bragging or hijacking conversations. Let another praise you the proverb says, not to run mouth, a stranger and not your own lips. And If we have a habit of doing that we need to take some time and ask why. What are we looking for? What are we going for? What are we lacking? What are we missing here? What…what are we demanding? What are we trying to get from people? What is so important to us that we will draw all kinds of attention to ourselves and even become false and pretend to be somebody else to be seen. Like what is that about? It seems to me that we are ultimately looking for, ultimately, is to know that our Father sees us and that He loves us and that that is the original cornerstone, like that is the foundational building block to our very identity. And if we skip that foundational cornerstone then…well…then we don’t have a foundational cornerstone. And, so, we’re trying to fill in the gap in all kinds of ways, ways that ultimately push people away from us. So, let’s spend some time with this idea today given to us from the book of Proverbs. It’s like so many of the other things in the book of Proverbs. We can read them. We can understand them. But then we have to take some time for personal reflection and observe ourselves and pay attention to ourselves so that we can understand how to apply wisdom to ourselves. If we are looking for love in the wrong places, if we’re demanding it in the wrong ways, if we’re not able to see other people where they are and who they are and affirm them and love them then how is it that we think we can demand it back and that it be real? And if we don’t understand that we have a loving Father that is fathering us through this life and have a sense of affirmation of His smile upon us we can go searching for all kinds of things in all kinds of places that end up being the wrong places and spend a lifetime wandering in the wilderness when we were loved all along and could’ve reflected that love out into the world instead of demanding all of the light be upon us and all of the affirmation being poured into our brokenness. So often we find healing in our own lives by offering healing in other people’s lives. And so often it’s so easy, so often it’s just getting the attention off of ourselves and being present with another person. And, so, let’s give that some thought, maybe even practice a little bit and see what happens as we seek first the kingdom, seek first the chance to be an ambassador for Jesus in this world, by loving one another and seeing if we don’t, in fact reap what we sow.

Prayer:

Holy Spirit, we invite You into that. We live in a culture that is very self-absorbed and that gets very validated. It really is all about us we are told and what we find in life is that really isn’t, that we find meaning in our interactions and in our genuine affection and love for one another. And, so, when we use people to affirm ourselves then that’s what we’re doing, using people, which is ultimately not giving us what we seek. Holy Spirit help us to love like You love and know that we are loved by You matter what. We pray this in the precious and mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Ezekiel 10-11

The Glory of the Lord Leaves the Temple

10 Then I looked, and behold, (A)on the expanse that was over the heads of the cherubim there appeared above them something (B)like a sapphire,[a] in appearance like a throne. And he said to (C)the man clothed in linen, “Go in among (D)the whirling wheels underneath the cherubim. Fill your hands with (E)burning coals from between the cherubim, and (F)scatter them over the city.”

And he went in (G)before my eyes. Now the cherubim were standing (H)on the south side of the house, when the man went in, and (I)a cloud filled (J)the inner court. And (K)the glory of the Lord (L)went up from the cherub to the threshold of the house, and the house (M)was filled with the cloud, and the court was filled with (N)the brightness of the glory of the Lord. And (O)the sound of the wings of the cherubim was heard as far as the outer court, (P)like the voice of God Almighty when he speaks.

And when he commanded (Q)the man clothed in linen, (R)“Take fire from between (S)the whirling wheels, from between the cherubim,” he went in and stood beside a wheel. And a cherub stretched out his hand from between the cherubim to the fire that was between the cherubim, and took some of it and put it into the hands of the man clothed in linen, who took it and went out. The cherubim appeared to have (T)the form of a human hand under their wings.

(U)And I looked, and behold, there were four wheels beside the cherubim, one beside each cherub, and (V)the appearance of the wheels was (W)like sparkling (X)beryl. 10 And as for their appearance, the four had the same likeness, as if a wheel were within a wheel. 11 (Y)When they went, they went in any of their four directions[b] (Z)without turning as they went, (AA)but in whatever direction the front wheel[c] faced, the others followed without turning as they went. 12 (AB)And their whole body, their rims, and their spokes, their wings,[d] and the wheels were full of eyes all around—the wheels that the four of them had. 13 As for the wheels, they were called in my hearing (AC)“the whirling wheels.” 14 (AD)And every one had four faces: (AE)the first face was the face of the cherub, and the second face was (AF)a human face, and the third the face of a lion, and the fourth the face of an eagle.

15 (AG)And the cherubim mounted up. These were (AH)the living creatures that I saw by (AI)the Chebar canal. 16 (AJ)And when the cherubim went, the wheels went beside them. And (AK)when the cherubim lifted up their wings to mount up from the earth, the wheels did not turn from beside them. 17 (AL)When they stood still, these stood still, and when they mounted up, these mounted up with them, for the spirit of the living creatures[e] was in them.

18 (AM)Then (AN)the glory of the Lord went out from the threshold of the house, and stood over the cherubim. 19 (AO)And the cherubim lifted up their wings and mounted up from the earth (AP)before my eyes as they went out, with the wheels beside them. And they stood at the entrance of the (AQ)east gate of the house of the Lord, and (AR)the glory of the God of Israel was over them.

20 (AS)These were the living creatures that I saw (AT)underneath the God of Israel by (AU)the Chebar canal; and I knew that they were cherubim. 21 (AV)Each had four faces, and each four wings, and underneath their wings (AW)the likeness of human hands. 22 (AX)And as for the likeness of their faces, they were the same faces whose appearance I had seen by the Chebar canal. (AY)Each one of them went straight forward.

Judgment on Wicked Counselors

11 (AZ)The Spirit lifted me up and brought me to (BA)the east gate of the house of the Lord, which faces east. And behold, at the entrance of the gateway there were (BB)twenty-five men. And I saw among them Jaazaniah (BC)the son of Azzur, and (BD)Pelatiah the son of Benaiah, princes of the people. And he said to me, (BE)“Son of man, these are the men who devise iniquity and who give wicked counsel in this city; (BF)who say, (BG)‘The time is not near[f] to build houses. (BH)This city is the cauldron, and we are the meat.’ Therefore prophesy against them; prophesy, O son of man.”

And (BI)the Spirit of the Lord fell upon me, and he said to me, “Say, Thus says the Lord: So you think, O house of Israel. (BJ)For I know the things that come into your mind. (BK)You have multiplied your slain in this city and have filled its streets with the slain. Therefore thus says the Lord God: (BL)Your slain whom you have laid in the midst of it, (BM)they are the meat, and (BN)this city is the cauldron, but you shall be brought out of the midst of it. (BO)You have feared the sword, and I will bring the sword upon you, declares the Lord God. And I will bring you out of the midst of it, and (BP)give you into the hands of foreigners, and (BQ)execute judgments upon you. 10 (BR)You shall fall by the sword. I will judge you at the border of Israel, (BS)and you shall know that I am the Lord. 11 (BT)This city shall not be your cauldron, nor shall you be the meat in the midst of it. I will judge you at the border of Israel, 12 and you shall know that I am the Lord. For you have not walked in my statutes, nor obeyed my rules, (BU)but have acted according to the rules of the nations that are around you.”

13 And it came to pass, while I was prophesying, (BV)that (BW)Pelatiah the son of Benaiah died. (BX)Then I fell down on my face and cried out with a loud voice and said, (BY)“Ah, Lord God! (BZ)Will you make a full end of the remnant of Israel?”

Israel's New Heart and Spirit

14 And the word of the Lord came to me: 15 (CA)“Son of man, your brothers, even your brothers, your kinsmen,[g] the whole house of Israel, all of them, are those of whom the inhabitants of Jerusalem have said, (CB)‘Go far from the Lord; to us this land is given for a possession.’ 16 Therefore say, ‘Thus says the Lord God: Though I removed them far off among the nations, and though I scattered them among the countries, yet (CC)I have been a sanctuary to them for a while[h] in the countries where they have gone.’ 17 Therefore say, ‘Thus says the Lord God: (CD)I will gather you from the peoples and assemble you out of the countries where you have been scattered, (CE)and I will give you the land of Israel.’ 18 And when they come there, (CF)they will remove from it all its (CG)detestable things and all its abominations. 19 (CH)And I will give them one heart, and (CI)a new spirit I will put within them. (CJ)I will remove the heart of stone from their flesh (CK)and give them a heart of flesh, 20 (CL)that they may walk in my statutes and keep my rules and obey them. (CM)And they shall be my people, and I will be their God. 21 (CN)But as for those whose heart goes after their detestable things and their abominations, (CO)I will[i] bring their deeds upon their own heads, declares the Lord God.”

22 (CP)Then the cherubim lifted up their wings, with the wheels beside them, (CQ)and the glory of the God of Israel was over them. 23 And the glory of the Lord went up from the midst of the city and (CR)stood on the mountain that is on the east side of the city. 24 (CS)And the Spirit lifted me up and brought me (CT)in the vision by the Spirit of God (CU)into Chaldea, to the exiles. Then the vision that I had seen went up from me. 25 And I told the exiles all the things that the Lord had shown me.

Hebrews 6

Therefore (A)let us leave (B)the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance (C)from dead works and of faith toward God, and of (D)instruction about washings,[a] (E)the laying on of hands, (F)the resurrection of the dead, and (G)eternal judgment. And this we will do (H)if God permits. For it is impossible, in the case of those (I)who have once been enlightened, who have tasted (J)the heavenly gift, and (K)have shared in the Holy Spirit, and (L)have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, and (M)then have fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, since (N)they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt. For (O)land that has drunk the rain that often falls on it, and produces a crop useful to those for whose sake it is cultivated, receives a blessing from God. But (P)if it bears thorns and thistles, it is worthless and near to being cursed, (Q)and its end is to be burned.

Though we speak in this way, yet in your case, beloved, we feel sure of better things—things that belong to salvation. 10 For (R)God is not unjust so as to overlook (S)your work and the love that you have shown for his name in (T)serving the saints, as you still do. 11 And we desire each one of you to show the same earnestness to have the full assurance (U)of hope until the end, 12 so that you may not be sluggish, but (V)imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

The Certainty of God's Promise

13 For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he had no one greater by whom to swear, (W)he swore by himself, 14 saying, (X)“Surely I will bless you and multiply you.” 15 And thus Abraham,[b] (Y)having patiently waited, obtained the promise. 16 For people swear by something greater than themselves, and in all their disputes (Z)an oath is final for confirmation. 17 So when God desired to show more convincingly to (AA)the heirs of the promise (AB)the unchangeable character of his purpose, (AC)he guaranteed it with an oath, 18 so that by two unchangeable things, in which (AD)it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope (AE)set before us. 19 We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into (AF)the inner place behind the curtain, 20 where Jesus has gone (AG)as a forerunner on our behalf, (AH)having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.

Psalm 105:16-36

16 When he (A)summoned a famine on the land
and (B)broke all supply[a] of bread,
17 he had (C)sent a man ahead of them,
Joseph, who was (D)sold as a slave.
18 His (E)feet were hurt with fetters;
his neck was put in a collar of iron;
19 until (F)what he had said came to pass,
the word of the Lord (G)tested him.
20 (H)The king sent and (I)released him;
the ruler of the peoples set him free;
21 he (J)made him lord of his house
and ruler of all his possessions,
22 to bind[b] his princes at his pleasure
and to teach his elders wisdom.

23 Then (K)Israel came to Egypt;
Jacob (L)sojourned in (M)the land of Ham.
24 And the Lord (N)made his people very fruitful
and made them stronger than their foes.
25 He (O)turned their hearts to hate his people,
to (P)deal craftily with his servants.

26 He (Q)sent Moses, his servant,
and Aaron, (R)whom he had chosen.
27 (S)They performed his signs among them
and miracles in (T)the land of Ham.
28 He (U)sent darkness, and made the land dark;
they (V)did not rebel[c] against his words.
29 He turned their waters into blood
and (W)caused their fish to die.
30 Their land swarmed with frogs,
even in (X)the chambers of their kings.
31 He spoke, and there came (Y)swarms of flies,
(Z)and gnats throughout their country.
32 He gave them hail for rain,
and fiery (AA)lightning bolts through their land.
33 He struck down their vines and fig trees,
and (AB)shattered the trees of their country.
34 He spoke, and the (AC)locusts came,
young locusts without number,
35 which devoured all the vegetation in their land
and ate up the fruit of their ground.
36 He (AD)struck down all the firstborn in their land,
(AE)the firstfruits of all their strength.

Ezekiel 7:1-9:11, Hebrews 5:1-14, Psalm 105:1-15, Proverbs 26:28

Today is the third day of November, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian and it is wonderful to be here with you today, as we continue to move through this first week of the 11th month, just getting moved into this 11th month of the year and we will obviously be picking up where we left off, which will take us back into the book of Ezekiel in the Old Testament and the letter to the Hebrews in the new. So, let’s dive in, we’re reading from the English Standard Version this week, Ezekiel chapters 7, 8 and 9 today.

Commentary:

Okay, let’s just camp out here in this one sentence that Proverbs offered us today. “A lying tongue hates its victims, and a flattering mouth works ruin.” This is obviously something that was wisdom thousands of years ago. And so, it was certainly poignant then, but my goodness, it, it isn’t, doesn’t seem like it could be any less poignant now, than it was then. It might even be more poignant. And this Proverb should kinda confront some things inside of us, the false aspects of our lives. Like if…if we have a lying tongue, which essentially means that…that we are willing to puff up or shrink back what the truth actually is, kind of form it and shape it for our purposes, to protect ourselves from something, or to manipulate somebody into doing something, but it’s not coming from a place of truth so, we are lying. Then we need to understand that we are expressing hatred to the one we are lying to. And it’s easy enough to go, hang on, hang on, hang on, that’s not fair, there’s a lot of nuances here. I would just say well, okay let’s just go back to, Proverbs and let’s look at this again, “A lying tongue hates its victims, and a flattering mouth works ruin.” Full stop. What makes this so confrontational or one of the ways in which the word of God is actually piercing to the place where soul and spirit divide, as we were talking about from the book of Hebrews yesterday, is that our culture is built on many, many shades of gray. And I don’t mean that like a provocative book or movie. I mean like, nuances after nuances, after nuances, and that definitely tells us that life has its complexities. It also tells us that we curate and massage things in such a way to get things that we want done or to get people to do things that we want them to do, all the time. In so many ways we just assume a layer of falseness exists over the top of everything and we don’t even pay attention to the ways that we participate in that. It’s just the Proverbs won’t let us do that. Proverbs is telling us, if you’re gonna be dishonest, like if you’re going to be false, if you’re going to have a lying tongue, then you are expressing hatred. That is a lot to hold onto. Like that really requires us observing ourselves and really inviting God into this. Because Jesus was true and Jesus is the one, we are to imitate but if we look at the ways that we participate in life and in culture, we realize there may indeed be some tremendous work to do and actually exposing the truth in our lives and letting the truth be who we are. But there’s more to this Proverb than just telling a lie. I mean, a lying tongue expresses hatred, but the mouth can do more than lie and the Proverb tells us that a flattering mouth works ruin. And this isn’t the kind of flattery that’s like hey, that was a really good job or hey, that thing that you spoke to me really helped, or thanks for taking the time to give me these instructions and help me get this thing done. Like, that’s gratitude, that’s affirmation. The flattery that we’re talking about here is words of affirmation or encouragement that are used for a purpose, not to just be goodwill, not to just express gratitude but things are said to puff somebody up in order to manipulate them or to manipulate an opening into their life for our gain, for our control. Then that ends in ruin for everyone. I mean let’s just take a pause here, step back and think about it, because we know what manipulation is, we know what false flattery looks like, we’ve probably been manipulated before in some small or very, very big ways in our lives. If we think about the times where we have discovered that we have been manipulated, is that a time to throw a party, like is that the time for rejoicing? Hey, I got taken advantage of. I’ve been manipulated. I have ruined aspects of my life over this, but I’ve discovered now that I’ve been manipulated, let’s rejoice together. I don’t know anybody like that, that certainly isn’t true of my life and my story. Rather, manipulation and discovering manipulation, simply reveals that there has been a false reality that is been spun out for us that we’ve believed in, and we’ve discovered that it’s false and it may have caused tremendous amount of ruin in our lives. And we could flip the coin over and look at the times that we’ve tried to be convincing through flattery, we’ve tried to set the stage just right and grease the wheels, so that we can get what we want from somebody. Like, even when we say it, even as I’m describing it sitting right here next to the Scriptures, it’s so icky. And this one sentence in the book of Proverbs, tells us that it leads to ruin. So, if our aim is to be icky and express hatred then yeah, we should have a deceptive, flattering mouth and a lying tongue, because that will indeed, get us where we’re going, which is ultimately, though, ruin. So, if ruin is the goal, here’s how to get there. If ruin is not the goal, then we need to jump off that train, stop lying to each other, stop deceiving each other, stop manipulating each other, stop with the false flattery, stop with the falseness and rather speak the truth in love.

Prayer:

And so, Holy Spirit, we invite You into that and we thank You for this confrontation that challenges each of us in our own ways and in our own stories. We ask that You would lead us deeper into the word of God. We were told yesterday that the word of God can reach the point where our soul and spirit divide. And so far, can’t think of a place more deep than that, that seems to be the place where the truth of who we are would actually be. Come speak truth there, to the power of the word of God and the power of Your spirit to guide us. Lead us as we ask so often, into all truth, which means away from partial lies or full lies. Lead us into all truth and away from all faults. We ask in the name of Jesus, the true one. Amen.

Announcements:

dailyaudiobible.com, that’s home base, that’s the website of course, that’s where you can find out what’s going on around here. The Daily Audio Bible app will do that as well and that can be found from the App Store that works with your phone, so check that out.

What’s going on around here right now, is the release of a brand-new resource into the community here, it’s called Sleep, A Contemplative Journey. And it is a, it is a musical resource intended to create space for rest and that came out a couple of days ago, on Tuesday. So, just letting everybody know, we’ve been talking about for a couple weeks, but it is widely available now, wherever you get your music, wherever it is you stream your music or purchase your downloadable digital music, whatever outlet that is, you should be able to find Sleep, A Contemplative Journey. And it’s only been a couple of days, but already kind of getting some feedback. And I went to sleep with it the first night and I just, I love that, it’s so rewarding to get that feedback. And so, just enjoy rest. I am doing the same thing, knowing what, like, what I’ve been saying all along, we’re right out in front. A couple weeks from now we’re going to be entering into the busier, maybe busiest time of the year when rest and calm and sleep are a little bit more hard to come by and have to be contended for. So, releasing this, out in front of it, getting this resource kind of into our hands and letting it just be a resource that’s available, especially if the anxiety is keeping our eyes from closing or if we’re resting fitfully. This is made to make space that’s safe for sleeping. And so, so check it out.

Ezekiel 7-9

The Day of the Wrath of the Lord

The word of the Lord came to me: “And you, (A)O son of man, thus says the Lord God to the land of Israel: (B)An end! The end has come upon the four corners of the land.[a] Now (C)the end is upon you, and (D)I will send my anger upon you; (E)I will judge you according to your ways, and I will punish you for all your abominations. (F)And my eye will not spare you, nor will I have pity, but (G)I will punish you for your ways, while your abominations are in your midst. (H)Then you will know that I am the Lord.

“Thus says the Lord God: Disaster (I)after disaster![b] Behold, it comes. (J)An end has come; the end has come; it has awakened against you. Behold, it comes. (K)Your doom[c] has come to you, O inhabitant of the land. (L)The time has come; the day is near, a day of tumult, and not (M)of joyful shouting on the mountains. Now I will soon (N)pour out my wrath upon you, and (O)spend my anger against you, (P)and judge you according to your ways, and I will punish you for all your abominations. (Q)And my eye will not spare, nor will I have pity. I will punish you according to your ways, while your abominations are in your midst. (R)Then you will know that I am the Lord, who strikes.

10 (S)“Behold, the day! Behold, it comes! (T)Your doom has come; (U)the rod has blossomed; pride has budded. 11 (V)Violence has grown up into (W)a rod of wickedness. (X)None of them shall remain, nor their abundance, nor their wealth; neither shall there be preeminence among them.[d] 12 (Y)The time has come; the day has arrived. Let not (Z)the buyer rejoice, nor (AA)the seller mourn, (AB)for wrath is upon all their multitude.[e] 13 For (AC)the seller shall not return to what he has sold, while they live. (AD)For the vision concerns all their multitude; it shall not turn back; and because of his iniquity, none can maintain his life.[f]

14 “They have blown the trumpet and made everything ready, but none goes to battle, (AE)for my wrath is upon all their multitude. 15 (AF)The sword is without; pestilence and famine are within. (AG)He who is in the field dies by the sword, (AH)and him who is in the city famine and pestilence devour. 16 (AI)And if any survivors escape, they will be on the mountains, like (AJ)doves of the valleys, all of them moaning, each one over his iniquity. 17 (AK)All hands are feeble, and all knees turn to water. 18 (AL)They put on sackcloth, and (AM)horror covers them. Shame is on all faces, and (AN)baldness on all their heads. 19 They cast their silver into the streets, and their gold is like an unclean thing. (AO)Their silver and gold are not able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the Lord. They cannot satisfy their hunger or fill their stomachs with it. (AP)For it was (AQ)the stumbling block of their iniquity. 20 (AR)His beautiful ornament they used for pride, and (AS)they made their abominable images and their detestable things of it. Therefore (AT)I make it an unclean thing to them. 21 And I will give it into the hands of (AU)foreigners for prey, (AV)and to the wicked of the earth for spoil, and (AW)they shall profane it. 22 I will turn my face from them, and (AX)they shall profane my treasured[g] place. Robbers shall enter (AY)and profane it.

23 (AZ)“Forge a chain![h] (BA)For the land is full of bloody crimes (BB)and the city is full of violence. 24 I will bring (BC)the worst of the nations to take possession of their houses. (BD)I will put an end to the pride of the strong, (BE)and their holy places[i] shall be profaned. 25 (BF)When anguish comes, (BG)they will seek peace, but there shall be none. 26 (BH)Disaster comes upon disaster; (BI)rumor follows rumor. (BJ)They seek a vision from the prophet, while (BK)the law[j] perishes from the priest and (BL)counsel from the elders. 27 The king mourns, the prince is wrapped in despair, and the hands of the people of the land are paralyzed by terror. According to their way (BM)I will do to them, and according to their judgments I will judge them, (BN)and they shall know that I am the Lord.”

Abominations in the Temple

(BO)In the sixth year, in the sixth month, on the fifth day of the month, (BP)as I sat in my house, with (BQ)the elders of Judah sitting before me, (BR)the hand of the Lord God fell upon me there. Then I looked, and behold, (BS)a form that had the appearance of a man.[k] (BT)Below what appeared to be his waist was fire, and above his waist was something like the appearance of brightness, like (BU)gleaming metal.[l] He (BV)put out the form of a hand and took me by a lock of my head, and the Spirit lifted me up (BW)between earth and heaven and (BX)brought me in (BY)visions of God to Jerusalem, (BZ)to the entrance of the gateway of the inner court that faces north, (CA)where was the seat of the (CB)image of jealousy, (CC)which provokes to jealousy. And behold, (CD)the glory of the God of Israel was there, like the vision that I saw (CE)in the valley.

Then he said to me, (CF)“Son of man, lift up your eyes now toward the north.” So I lifted up my eyes toward the north, and behold, north of (CG)the altar gate, in the entrance, was this (CH)image of jealousy. And he said to me, “Son of man, (CI)do you see what they are doing, (CJ)the great abominations that the house of Israel are committing here, (CK)to drive me far from my sanctuary? But you will see still greater abominations.”

And he brought me to the entrance of the court, and when I looked, behold, there was a hole in the wall. Then he said to me, “Son of man, (CL)dig in the wall.” So I dug in the wall, and behold, there was an entrance. And he said to me, “Go in, and see (CM)the vile abominations that they are committing here.” 10 So I went in and saw. And there, (CN)engraved on the wall all around, was (CO)every form of (CP)creeping things and loathsome beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel. 11 And before them stood (CQ)seventy men of (CR)the elders of the house of Israel, with Jaazaniah the son of (CS)Shaphan standing among them. Each had his censer in his hand, and (CT)the smoke of the cloud of incense went up. 12 Then he said to me, “Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel are doing (CU)in the dark, each (CV)in his room of pictures? For they say, (CW)‘The Lord does not see us, the Lord has forsaken the land.’” 13 He said also to me, (CX)“You will see still greater abominations that they commit.”

14 Then he brought me to (CY)the entrance of the north gate of the house of the Lord, and behold, there sat women weeping for Tammuz. 15 Then he said to me, “Have you seen this, O (CZ)son of man? (DA)You will see still greater abominations than these.”

16 And he brought me into (DB)the inner court of the house of the Lord. And behold, at the entrance of the temple of the Lord, (DC)between the (DD)porch and (DE)the altar, were about twenty-five men, (DF)with their backs to the temple of the Lord, and their faces toward the east, worshiping (DG)the sun toward the east. 17 Then he said to me, “Have you seen this, O (DH)son of man? Is it too light a thing for the house of Judah to commit (DI)the abominations that they commit here, that (DJ)they should fill the land with violence and (DK)provoke me still further to anger? Behold, they put the branch to their[m] nose. 18 Therefore (DL)I will act in wrath. (DM)My eye will not spare, nor will I have pity. (DN)And though they cry in my ears with a loud voice, I will not hear them.”

Idolaters Killed

Then he cried in my ears with a loud voice, saying, “Bring near the executioners of the city, (DO)each with his destroying weapon in his hand.” And behold, six men came from the direction of (DP)the upper gate, which faces north, each with his weapon for slaughter in his hand, and with them was (DQ)a man clothed in linen, with a writing case at his waist. And they went in and stood beside (DR)the bronze altar.

Now (DS)the glory of the God of Israel had gone up from the cherub on which it rested to (DT)the threshold of the house. And he called to (DU)the man clothed in linen, who had the writing case at his waist. And the Lord said to him, “Pass through the city, through Jerusalem, and (DV)put a mark on the foreheads of the men who (DW)sigh and groan over all the abominations that are committed in it.” And to (DX)the others he said in my hearing, “Pass through the city after him, and strike. (DY)Your eye shall not spare, and you shall show no pity. (DZ)Kill old men outright, young men and maidens, little children and women, but (EA)touch no one on whom is the mark. And (EB)begin at my sanctuary.” So they began with the elders who were before the house. Then he said to them, (EC)“Defile the house, and fill the courts with the slain. Go out.” So they went out and struck in the city. And while they were striking, and I was left alone, (ED)I fell upon my face, and cried, (EE)“Ah, Lord God! (EF)Will you destroy all the remnant of Israel (EG)in the outpouring of your wrath on Jerusalem?”

Then he said to me, (EH)“The guilt of the house of Israel and Judah is exceedingly great. (EI)The land is full of blood, and the city full of injustice. For (EJ)they say, ‘The Lord has forsaken the land, and the Lord does not see.’ 10 As for me, (EK)my eye will not spare, nor will I have pity; (EL)I will bring their deeds upon their heads.”

11 And behold, (EM)the man clothed in linen, with the writing case at his waist, brought back word, saying, “I have done as you commanded me.”

Hebrews 5

For every high priest chosen from among men (A)is appointed to act on behalf of men (B)in relation to God, (C)to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. (D)He can deal gently with the ignorant and wayward, since he himself (E)is beset with weakness. Because of this he is obligated to offer sacrifice for his own sins (F)just as he does for those of the people. And (G)no one takes this honor for himself, but only when called by God, (H)just as Aaron was.

So also Christ (I)did not exalt himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed by him who said to him,

(J)“You are my Son,
today I have begotten you”;

as he says also in another place,

(K)“You are a priest forever,
after the order of Melchizedek.”

In the days of his flesh, (L)Jesus[a] offered up prayers and supplications, (M)with loud cries and tears, to him (N)who was able to save him from death, and (O)he was heard because of his reverence. Although (P)he was a son, (Q)he learned obedience through what he suffered. And (R)being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him, 10 being designated by God a high priest (S)after the order of Melchizedek.

Warning Against Apostasy

11 About this we have much to say, and it is (T)hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. 12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again (U)the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need (V)milk, not solid food, 13 for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is (W)a child. 14 But solid food is for (X)the mature, for those who have their powers (Y)of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.

Psalm 105:1-15

Tell of All His Wondrous Works

105 (A)Oh give thanks to the Lord; (B)call upon his name;
(C)make known his deeds among the peoples!
Sing to him, sing praises to him;
(D)tell of all his wondrous works!
Glory in his holy name;
let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice!
Seek the Lord and his (E)strength;
(F)seek his presence continually!
Remember the (G)wondrous works that he has done,
his miracles, and (H)the judgments he uttered,
O offspring of (I)Abraham, his servant,
children of Jacob, his (J)chosen ones!

He is the Lord our God;
his (K)judgments are in all the earth.
He (L)remembers his covenant forever,
the word that he commanded, for (M)a thousand generations,
(N)the covenant that he made with Abraham,
his (O)sworn promise to Isaac,
10 which he confirmed to (P)Jacob as a statute,
to Israel as an everlasting covenant,
11 saying, (Q)“To you I will give the land of Canaan
as (R)your portion for an inheritance.”

12 When they were (S)few in number,
of little account, and (T)sojourners in it,
13 wandering from nation to nation,
from one kingdom to another people,
14 he (U)allowed no one to oppress them;
he (V)rebuked kings on their account,
15 saying, (W)“Touch not my anointed ones,
do my prophets no harm!”

Ezekiel 3:16-6:14, Hebrews 4:1-16, Psalms 104:24-35, Proverbs 26:27

Today is the 2nd day of November welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian and it is great to be here with you today as we gather around the Global Campfire and continue to move into this brand-new 11th month of the year together and take the next step forward in the Scriptures together, which will lead us, actually lead us into territory that we’re moving into in both old and new Testaments. We’ve just gotten ourselves going in the book of Ezekiel and in the letter to the Hebrews. So, that’s where we will continue forward today. We’re reading from the English Standard Version this week. Ezekiel chapter 3 verse 16 through 6 verse 14.

Commentary:

Okay. So, in the book of Hebrews today we encountered one of the most famous passages in the Scriptures and one of the most famous passages certainly in the letter to the Hebrews – “for the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joints and marrow. It exposes our in our innermost thoughts and desires.” Super famous passage. Very similar for…for we who are around the Global Campfire going through the Scriptures every day all the way through the Scriptures every year. Very similar to what we read in second Timothy where we were told “all Scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” These couple of passages, second Timothy and Hebrews today describe the why of what we’re doing, why we’re coming around this global campfire every day. We do this because the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. There isn’t a year that we come through the book of Hebrews and encounter this verse that I don’t stop and think about it even more year upon year year-over-year. The word of God is so precise that it can penetrate or cut to where soul and spirit divide. I don’t even know where that is. But what I do know is that it is at the depth or the core of our being. Perhaps it’s where our true self, our spirit and our personality or our ego meet. Wherever it is, it is core, it is essential, and it is deeper than anything else that we haven’t known to man can go. Like the joints and marrow part of that verse we can understand. So, like okay, so it can go deep inside, and we have instruments that can go where joints and marrow are, but we don’t have instruments that can go where spirit and soul meet except that we are being told that there is such an instrument if we want to call it an instrument. It’s the word of God. It can get to the core of things, the deepest depths, the place where soul and spirit meet. In some ways I think of this as the point where what is true and what we are presenting meet. Like, its right there at the depths of our core, bringing truth and challenging what is false. It’s just so few things that can even approach that. And this is one of the core reasons were showing up here every day because the word of God is one such thing. So, unless we want to just delude ourselves and make up a reality as it comes to us, then we need such a thing to challenge what is false. Otherwise, we’re going to be believing all kinds of things that are false and not even knowing it. The word of God is there to set it straight and point us in a direction that we should go. It cuts through all of the things that we present. It cuts through personality. It speaks truth into the things that we use to cope. It speaks truth to our true hopes. It speaks truth to the wounds of our lives that have shaped our story. It reaches the deepest truest part of who we are, the part made in the image of God. Like, there’s just nothing else that can that. And let’s think about it. Does us reading the word of God somehow magically reveal to God what is the truth of who we are versus what we present? Not likely. He probably already knows. And, so, if we are being cut to the place, if we have an instrument that can reach the place where soul and spirit divide who can benefit from that? God already knows. It’s for us. It can speak the truth into the deepest parts of who we truly are. This is why we come around the Global Campfire every day, brothers and sisters. This is why we are here. If there was ever a time to be led into all truth, it’s now. And, so, thanks be to God that we have this gift that does what it doe. And if we’re in this rhythm and we’re showing up every day and we know that the Bible has a way of touching everything over the course of a year. So many things get challenged, the false in us, indeed, gets challenged. And when the false gets challenged, we realize we are at another crossroads. And wisdom is there, pointing the way to go if we’ll pay attention. We need this more than ever. And, so, we should be supremely grateful not only for…for the Global Campfire, for each other, that we can go through this together but that it exists, that God gave a tangible gift in the Scriptures for us that will speak truth to us, that will lead us and guide us and that informs us who God is and what God is like and that tells us that there is a Holy Spirit that is here to be an advocate and a comforter and that will…who will lead us into all truth. And, so, let’s be grateful today for the word of God.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You deeply. We do it all the time. We thank You for Your word. We thank You for the Scriptures. We thank You for the tangible gift. We thank You for what is inside the Scriptures and how from all kinds of different angles, through all kinds of different stories and histories we are able to look through the Scriptures and find them as a mirror into our own soul, exactly what is being said here in Hebrews today. We thank You for that. There’s nothing else that can do that. And, so, Holy Spirit come lead us into all truth. Lead us deeper into Jesus. Lead us deeper into our relationship with the Scriptures. May we understand how You are leading us and what You are challenging with in us, and may we respond with humility, open hearts and open arms, we pray. In Jesus’ name, we ask. Amen.

Announcements:

dailyaudiobible.com is home base and that is where you can find out what’s going on around here. The alternative to that would be the Daily Audio Bible app, which you can download from whatever app store is associated with your device. Just look for Daily Audio Bible and you can download the app. It’s free and it’s the way to go if you want to kinda keep track of where you are in your progress through the Bible. So, check that out.

What is going on around here right now is the launch and release of this new resource of and by and for this community. It’s called Sleep, a contemplative journey. I’ve shared the whole story along the way. It released yesterday. And, so, to get up and sort of see what that looks like, it was very heartwarming, it made me smile, made me so proud of our community here to…to see sleep debut at number one, the number one Christian album and the number two album of all albums. And we couldn’t I guess beat…not that we were in a competition, but I guess Taylor Swift is still bigger in that world for sure, but it’s nice for us to just kinda show up there. It’s so interesting to watch how that reverberates. Now people who aren’t even necessarily believers encounter resources like this and go, wow, like I could use that and then find their way here around the Global Campfire. And, so, it’s a joy. And, so, Sleep, a contemplative journey is available wherever it is that you get your music and by that, I mean wherever you get your music that you stream on your phone or your device. All of the streaming services, have Sleep, a contemplative journey. So, iTunes, Apple music, Spotify, Tidal, wherever it is that you get your music. Check it out. It was created to make space for our souls to find rest. So, sleep is now available. So, there was Heart, a contemplative journey and now there is Sleep, a contemplative journey. And I pray that it is a resource that makes your sleep sweet and that you wake up full of hope.

If you want to partner with the Daily Audio Bible, if being around the Global Campfire and moving through the Bible each and every day in community together is life-giving to you than thank you humbly for your partnership. There is a link on the homepage at dailyaudiobible.com. If you’re using the app, you can press the Give button in the upper right-hand corner, or the mailing address is PO Box 1996 Spring Hill Tennessee 37174.

And, of course, if you have a prayer request or encouragement, you can hit the Hotline button in the app. That’s the little red button up at the top or you can dial 877-942-4253.

And that’s it for today. I’m Brian I love you and I’ll be waiting for you here tomorrow.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Good morning DAB family it’s Debbie from Queensland Australia. Just calling in after listening to October 26th. Woman in Texas, so grateful to hear your praise report and your husband is at home more now. God is great and His mercy endures forever. Everything happens for a reason. You mentioned that your Fender Bender has brought up trauma. I feel God is using this situation as an opportunity to shine light on that trauma, to bring truth love forgiveness, to orchestrate freedom. Chris Anne glory to God for bringing another dog into your life. They have such great companions. Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ name I ask the chains of both of your situations be broken, that truth, love, forgiveness are abundant in your lives. Lord, I ask that You set my sister’s free in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.

This is Taylor from Florida I’m responding on October 30th Daily Audio Bible. It’s just gonna be for two people about two people having basically the same issue. There was a gentleman who called about anger issues he was having towards his son-in-law. And then the other one was a young lady at the end who was very angry at somebody for what they had done to her. And, so, in both of those obviously you can’t __ in anger. You have to give it to the Lord. And the best way to do that is to cry out in forgiveness, that, you know, to forgive those people for what they’ve done. And it's…and it’s a confession of your mouth. It’s not…your heart will follow and it may take…it may time. But you have to just speak out, speak what you want, which is you don’t want to act out in anger, you don’t wanna act out in viloence. So, Father God I ask you to teach these two people. Both of them sounded very genuine in their…in their desire to be free and to not be bound by unforgiveness or anger. Lord, You know I’ve been there so many times and I thank You for freeing me from that, from past to angers and for wrongs done to me. So, I thank You for that Lord Jesus and we believe it in Your name. Amen.

This is Chris from York PA listening to October 30th community prayer the gentleman called in who had lost everything, had a business for three years, couldn’t catch all that you said the beginning, but I think I got the gist of it. I know I had a business for three years that failed. Wasn’t totally broke so I’m very grateful to God about that. That was back in the early 90s. And things got better. That was a really tough time, especially in my marriage, giving myself pay cuts every six months or so until we ran out of money. And it was a tough time but…but God was good and He got me back on my feet and He’ll do the same for you. Just trust in Him. People are gonna let you down but there’s jobs out there. If you are reliable and can show up and are willing to work hard you can get back on your feet. Just don’t give up. Don’t give up on God. You know, He may or may…may not have led you into that business or He did and it was to teach you something. So, try to determine from reading scripture and prayer what God was trying to teach you and it’ll get better. So, you hang in there. Don’t give up. Keep listening, keep reading your Bible and God will be there for you. Take care.

Praying for my brother in Georgia the Protector praying oh God that You would just give him Father God just the wisdom and insight Lord God that he needs Father God in dealing with his grandbabies dad Lord God and even his daughter. Lord we pray that You would Father God work on his daughter’s heart Lord God…Lord God give her clarity Lord God and where she is in her life Lord God. We pray oh God that You would bring her back Lord God to…to the church Lord God bring her back to holy and righteous living. And we pray Father God that my brother Lord God will walk in the spirit and not in the flesh Lord, that he oh Lord will put his…his daughter, his granddaughter, and even…even the Father of the baby Father on the altar and put them before You oh God and let You O Lord God take the wheel. And we just give You praise and glory for Your blessings in Jesus’ name.

Hey Daily Audio Bible family this is people on the water from Indiana and I’m calling in today for two reasons, maybe three. The first reason is to say that I love you. Secondly, I heard this gentleman call in on Sunday the last day in October and I had to rewind the message because he really caught me off guard. You talked about how you hope God brings you death and that really hurt my heart. So, I just want to lift you up. I guess you’ve been lifted up already and now you want somebody to take action and I don’t know what that looks like for you right now, but I believe in a God who is outside of the box, who is outside of the church, who is outside of himself as well. He’s also the God who can take care of you and can feed you and clothe you, not just physically but spiritually. So, I pray, and I almost trust and hope like, who Jesus was that I might here you call in again, that your life may be changed like big time. Thirdly I am… I’m dealing with some relational stuff with family and my girlfriend and friends and I’m just asking for help. So, yeah. Alright. Love you guys.

Hi everyone, it’s Christy in Kentucky. I wanted to call in and let you know that we are listening and praying along with you. Today, I wanted to call in specifically to speak to Joe the protector. Oh, my brother it’s so nice to hear your voice again. Haven’t heard from you in a long time. And I just wanted to share my story with you Joe. My husband has two sons from a previous marriage. I have no biological children. One of his children now has a child with another lady and she had three other children before our little grandbaby came into the world. When our granddaughter was first born they shared her so sweetly with us and it was something new to me because both sons had pretty much not wanted anything to do with me. We were older when we got married and they were older teenagers pretty much set in their ways and just didn’t want to share their dad. So, I was completely blessed when our granddaughter was born. So, beautiful. We had such a lovely time for the first three years but it was on her 4th birthday that things just fell apart and it is a long story but just to say that the lady that is the mother of our granddaughter turned on me viciously and we have not seen our granddaughter in three years and it is breaking our heart. But Joe all we can do is pray and put these individuals in the hands of the Lord and ask Him to bring someone into their lives that can introduce them to Him.

Ezekiel 3:16-6:14

A Watchman for Israel

16 (A)And at the end of seven days, the word of the Lord came to me: 17 (B)“Son of man, (C)I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall (D)give them warning from me. 18 (E)If I say to the wicked, (F)‘You shall surely die,’ (G)and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, in order to save his life, that wicked person (H)shall die for[a] his iniquity, (I)but his blood I will require at your hand. 19 (J)But if you warn the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness, or from his wicked way, he shall die for his iniquity, (K)but you (L)will have delivered your soul. 20 (M)Again, if a righteous person turns from his righteousness and commits injustice, (N)and I lay a stumbling block before him, he shall die. (O)Because you have not warned him, he shall die for his sin, (P)and his righteous deeds that he has done shall not be remembered, (Q)but his blood I will require at your hand. 21 But if you warn the righteous person not to sin, and he does not sin, he shall surely live, because he took warning, and you will have delivered your soul.”

22 (R)And the hand of the Lord was upon me there. And he said to me, “Arise, go out into (S)the valley,[b] and (T)there I will speak with you.” 23 So I arose and went out into the valley, and behold, (U)the glory of the Lord stood there, like the glory that I had seen (V)by the Chebar canal, (W)and I fell on my face. 24 (X)But the Spirit entered into me and set me on my feet, and he spoke with me and said to me, “Go, shut yourself within your house. 25 And you, O son of man, behold, (Y)cords will be placed upon you, and you shall be bound with them, so that you cannot go out among the people. 26 And I will make your tongue cling to the roof of your mouth, so that (Z)you shall be mute and unable to reprove them, (AA)for they are a rebellious house. 27 (AB)But when I speak with you, I will open your mouth, and you shall say to them, (AC)‘Thus says the Lord God.’ (AD)He who will hear, let him hear; and he who will refuse to hear, let him refuse, for they are a rebellious house.

The Siege of Jerusalem Symbolized

“And you, (AE)son of man, (AF)take a brick and lay it before you, and engrave on it a city, even Jerusalem. (AG)And put siegeworks against it, (AH)and build a siege wall against it, (AI)and cast up a mound against it. Set camps also against it, (AJ)and plant battering rams against it all around. And you, take an iron griddle, and place it as an iron wall between you and the city; (AK)and set your face toward it, (AL)and let it be in a state of siege, and press the siege against it. This is (AM)a sign for the house of Israel.

“Then lie on your left side, and place the punishment[c] of the house of Israel upon it. For the number of the days that you lie on it, (AN)you shall bear their punishment. For I assign to you a number of days, (AO)390 days, (AP)equal to the number of the years of their punishment. (AQ)So long shall you bear (AR)the punishment of the house of Israel. And when you have completed these, you shall lie down a second time, but on your right side, and (AS)bear (AT)the punishment of the house of Judah. (AU)Forty days I assign you, a day for each year. (AV)And you shall set your face toward the siege of Jerusalem, (AW)with your arm bared, and you shall prophesy against the city. And behold, (AX)I will place cords upon you, so that you cannot turn from one side to the other, till you have completed (AY)the days of your siege.

“And you, take wheat and barley, beans and lentils, millet and emmer,[d] and put them into a single vessel and make your (AZ)bread from them. (BA)During the number of days that you lie on your side, (BB)390 days, you shall eat it. 10 And your food that you eat shall be (BC)by weight, (BD)twenty shekels[e] a day; from day to day[f] you shall eat it. 11 And water you shall drink (BE)by measure, the sixth part of a hin;[g] from day to day you shall drink. 12 And you shall eat it as a barley cake, baking it (BF)in their sight on human dung.” 13 And the Lord said, “Thus shall the people of Israel eat (BG)their bread unclean, among the nations where I will drive them.” 14 Then I said, (BH)“Ah, Lord God! Behold, I have never defiled myself.[h] (BI)From my youth up till now I have never eaten (BJ)what died of itself or was torn by beasts, nor has (BK)tainted meat come into my mouth.” 15 Then he said to me, “See, I assign to you cow's dung instead of human dung, on which you may prepare your bread.” 16 Moreover, he said to me, (BL)“Son of man, behold, (BM)I will break the supply[i] of bread in Jerusalem. They shall eat bread (BN)by weight and with anxiety, and they shall drink water (BO)by measure and in dismay. 17 I will do this that they may lack bread and water, and (BP)look at one another in dismay, and (BQ)rot away because of their punishment.

Jerusalem Will Be Destroyed

“And you, (BR)O son of man, take a (BS)sharp sword. Use it as (BT)a barber's razor and (BU)pass it over your head and your beard. Then take balances for weighing and divide the hair. (BV)A third part you shall burn in the fire (BW)in the midst of the city, (BX)when the days of the siege are completed. And a third part you shall take and strike with the sword all around the city. (BY)And a third part you shall scatter to the wind, and (BZ)I will unsheathe the sword after them. (CA)And you shall take from these a small number and bind them in the skirts of your robe. (CB)And of these again you shall take some and cast them into the midst of the fire and burn them in the fire. From there a fire will come out into all the house of Israel.

“Thus says the Lord God: (CC)This is Jerusalem. I have set her (CD)in the center of the nations, with countries all around her. And she has rebelled against my rules by doing wickedness (CE)more than the nations, and against my statutes more than (CF)the countries all around her; for they have rejected my rules and have not walked in my statutes. Therefore thus says the Lord God: Because you are (CG)more turbulent than the nations that are all around you, (CH)and have not walked in my statutes or obeyed my rules, (CI)and have not[j] even acted according to the rules of the nations that are all around you, therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, I, even I, (CJ)am against you. (CK)And I will execute judgments[k] in your midst (CL)in the sight of the nations. And because of all your abominations I will do with you (CM)what I have never yet done, and the like of which I will never do again. 10 Therefore (CN)fathers shall eat their sons in your midst, and sons shall eat their fathers. (CO)And I will execute judgments on you, (CP)and any of you who survive I will scatter to all the winds. 11 Therefore, (CQ)as I live, declares the Lord God, surely, (CR)because you have defiled my sanctuary (CS)with all your detestable things and with all your (CT)abominations, (CU)therefore I will withdraw.[l] (CV)My eye will not spare, and I will have no pity. 12 (CW)A third part of you shall die of pestilence and be consumed with famine in your midst; (CX)a third part shall fall by the sword all around you; (CY)and a third part I will scatter to all the winds and will unsheathe the sword after them.

13 (CZ)“Thus shall my anger spend itself, and I will vent my fury upon them and satisfy myself. And they shall know that (DA)I am the Lord—that I have spoken in my jealousy—(DB)when I spend my fury upon them. 14 Moreover, I will make you (DC)a desolation and (DD)an object of reproach among (DE)the nations all around you and in the sight of all who pass by. 15 You shall be[m] a reproach and a taunt, a warning (DF)and a horror, to (DG)the nations all around you, (DH)when I execute judgments on you in anger and fury, and (DI)with furious rebukes—I am the Lord; I have spoken— 16 when I send against you[n] (DJ)the deadly arrows of famine, arrows for destruction, which I will send to destroy you, and when I bring more and more famine upon (DK)you and break your supply[o] of bread. 17 I will send famine and (DL)wild beasts against you, (DM)and they will rob you of your children. Pestilence and (DN)blood shall pass through you, and I will bring the sword upon you. I am the Lord; I have spoken.”

Judgment Against Idolatry

The word of the Lord came to me: (DO)“Son of man, (DP)set your face toward (DQ)the mountains of Israel, and (DR)prophesy against them, and say, (DS)You mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord God! Thus says the Lord God to (DT)the mountains and (DU)the hills, to (DV)the ravines and the valleys: Behold, I, even I, will bring a sword upon you, (DW)and I will destroy your high places. (DX)Your altars shall become desolate, and your (DY)incense altars shall be broken, and I will cast down your slain before your idols. (DZ)And I will lay the dead bodies of the people of Israel before their idols, (EA)and I will scatter your bones around your altars. Wherever you dwell, (EB)the cities shall be waste and (EC)the high places ruined, so that your altars will be waste and ruined,[p] your idols broken and destroyed, your (ED)incense altars cut down, and your works wiped out. And the slain shall fall in your midst, and you shall know that I am the Lord.

(EE)“Yet I will leave some of you alive. When you have among the nations (EF)some who escape the sword, and when you are scattered through the countries, then those of you who escape (EG)will remember me among the nations where they are carried captive, how (EH)I have been broken over their whoring heart that has departed from me and over their eyes (EI)that go whoring after their idols. (EJ)And they will be loathsome in their own sight for the evils that they have committed, for all their abominations. 10 And they shall know that I am the Lord. (EK)I have not said in vain that I would do this evil to them.”

11 Thus says the Lord God: (EL)“Clap your hands (EM)and stamp your foot and say, Alas, because of all the evil abominations of the house of Israel, (EN)for they shall fall by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence. 12 (EO)He who is far off shall die of pestilence, and he who is near shall fall by the sword, and he who is left and is preserved shall die of famine. (EP)Thus I will spend my fury upon them. 13 And you shall know that I am the Lord, (EQ)when their slain lie among their idols around their altars, (ER)on every high hill, (ES)on all the mountaintops, (ET)under every green tree, and under (EU)every leafy oak, wherever (EV)they offered pleasing aroma to all their idols. 14 And (EW)I will stretch out my hand against them and (EX)make the land desolate and waste, (EY)in all their dwelling places, from the wilderness to (EZ)Riblah.[q] Then (FA)they will know that I am the Lord.”

Hebrews 4

Therefore, while the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us fear lest any of you should seem (A)to have failed to reach it. For good news came to us just as to them, but the message they heard did not benefit them, because (B)they were not united by faith with those who listened.[a] For we who have believed enter that rest, as he has said,

(C)“As I swore in my wrath,
‘They shall not enter my rest,’”

although his works were finished from the foundation of the world. For he has somewhere spoken of the seventh day in this way: (D)“And God rested on the seventh day from all his works.” And again in this passage he said,

(E)“They shall not enter my rest.”

Since therefore it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly received the good news (F)failed to enter because of disobedience, again he appoints a certain day, “Today,” saying through David so long afterward, in the words already quoted,

(G)“Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts.”

For if Joshua had given them rest, God[b] would not have spoken of another day later on. So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, 10 for whoever has entered God's rest has also (H)rested from his works as God did from his.

11 Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so (I)that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience. 12 For (J)the word of God is living and (K)active, (L)sharper than any (M)two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and (N)discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13 And (O)no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are (P)naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

Jesus the Great High Priest

14 Since then we have (Q)a great high priest (R)who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, (S)let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest (T)who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been (U)tempted as we are, (V)yet without sin. 16 (W)Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Psalm 104:24-35

24 O Lord, how manifold are your works!
In (A)wisdom have you made them all;
the earth is full of your creatures.
25 Here is the sea, great and wide,
(B)which teems with creatures innumerable,
living things both small and great.
26 There go the ships,
and (C)Leviathan, which you formed to (D)play in it.[a]

27 These (E)all look to you,
to (F)give them their food in due season.
28 When you give it to them, they gather it up;
when you (G)open your hand, they are filled with good things.
29 When you (H)hide your face, they are (I)dismayed;
when you (J)take away their breath, they die
and (K)return to their dust.
30 When you (L)send forth your Spirit,[b] they are created,
and you (M)renew the face of the ground.

31 May the glory of the Lord (N)endure forever;
may the Lord (O)rejoice in his works,
32 who looks on the earth and it (P)trembles,
who (Q)touches the mountains and they smoke!
33 I will sing to the Lord (R)as long as I live;
I will sing praise to my God while I have being.
34 May my (S)meditation be pleasing to him,
for I rejoice in the Lord.
35 Let (T)sinners be consumed from the earth,
and let the wicked be no more!
(U)Bless the Lord, O my soul!
(V)Praise the Lord!

Today is the first day of November, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian and it is wonderful to be here with you around the Global Campfire. Come on in, find a place, everyone’s here, we’re altogether as we greet this brand-new month and take the next step forward in the Scriptures. Today is the 305th day of the year, of 365 days in a year, which means that we will have 60 days remaining in this year, 60 steps to complete our journey and it is a pleasure and a joy to be here to greet the 11th month of the year, together with you. A brand-new, shiny, sparkly month out in front of us.

Introduction to the Book of Ezekiel:

And as we begin this brand-new month, we have a brand-new, shiny, sparkly book to move into, the book of Ezekiel. And so, having journeyed through the prophecies of Jeremiah, all of the warnings that happened over decades and then seeing them come true and then grieving over them coming true in the book of Lamentations, and for that matter, allowing Lamentations to simply lead us into and through grief and giving language and words to things that are hard to put into words, feelings that are really, really hard to articulate adequately because language fails. Like we can say I’m really hurting right now and that can be really, really true, but that’s probably an understatement. It’s really, really difficult at times to truly put to words what…what is beyond language. And so, Lamentations gives us language and leads us through that territory, which now brings us to the threshold of a brand-new book, even as we are at the threshold of a brand-new month. This is the book of Ezekiel. And Ezekiel was well educated and he was very loyal to God, very loyal to the traditions of the people, he came from a priestly family. And like Jeremiah, he was instructed by God to use his life to symbolically act out prophecies. And Jeremiah and Ezekiel were somewhat contemporaries; Jeremiah prophesied before Ezekiel did, but he also prophesied alongside or during Ezekiel’s time. It’s just that Jeremiah and Ezekiel are kind of on the opposite ends of the story of the exile of the…of well, the Babylonian conquest of Jerusalem and the Jewish exile from Jerusalem to Babylon. So, Jeremiah is prophesying from Jerusalem, as this is happening; Ezekiel is prophesying from exile in Babylon. So, they’re both prophesying at a time that has great up upheaval, there’s international struggle, the Babylonian Empire has defeated the Assyrian Empire, the Egyptian Empire and the Babylonian Empire are clashing with each other, within the land of Israel. And we can wonder like, why, why is all the fighting happening in this particular piece of land, but it’s like whoever controlled that piece of land actually controlled the major trade routes between lands, especially to the north and east, all the way down into the continent of Africa. So, even though the territory was contentious and was fought for, a lot of times Jerusalem hadn’t been destroyed. Even though things changed hands and there was loyalties that shifted, Jerusalem hadn’t been destroyed. Like if Judah was conquered, they’d pay tribute, they’d be a vassal but their city, the capital city, the holy city of Jerusalem and God’s temple hadn’t been destroyed. In 597 BC the Babylonians defeated Jerusalem, deported its people and Ezekiel was among the first to go into exile. And Babylon set a king in Jerusalem named Zedekiah who eventually rebelled against the Babylonian Empire, even though Jeremiah was there in Jerusalem very, very clearly saying this is not a good, don’t do this, this will lead to destruction. And then in 588 BC the Babylonians did come back to Jerusalem and it took em a couple years, but a couple years later, Jerusalem was leveled to the ground. But before that happened, before Jerusalem was destroyed, Ezekiel was in exile in Babylon, prophesying of the destruction of Jerusalem. Even as Jeremiah was prophesying the same thing, from the city of Jerusalem. But after this destruction, Ezekiel’s prophecies begin to transform and they become some beautiful, hopeful messages, hope of all things being made new again, restoration. Some of the most beautiful promises of restoration that we’ll find in the Bible. And Ezekiel also has these really, really strange, to be frank, really strange imagery, really strange imagery. Almost like, special-effects cinema, kind of imagery, that aren’t unlike the visions we find in the book of Daniel, or even in the book of Revelation. So, Ezekiel, at least that portion of Ezekiel, is often used in eschatological studies, which are the study of the end times in the apocalyptic worldview. But these strange visions that Ezekiel had, definitely impacted him as a person and we’re going to read about them. And so, we can only imagine what he saw and allow it to affect us in the same way. And as with other books of prophecy, yeah, there may be words of doom and gloom on the horizon, but there’s always words of restoration and hope to follow and there’s plenty of symbolic language. And so, if we read through the book of Ezekiel and allow our hearts to be open and allow what we’re reading and the texture of it, to speak to our hearts, to simply see what it brings up in us, instead of trying to figure everything out. I’ve often explained this like the difference between greeting a morning and watching the sunrise or greeting that same morning, with that same beautiful sunrise but ignoring the sunrise in order to read the newspaper to get information. Like, the morning spoke to us in totally different ways because we were spending our time focused in totally different directions. If we’ll move through the book of Ezekiel with an open heart, like we’re watching sunrise, instead of like reading the newspaper for information, we’ve put ourselves in a good position to receive. So, with all of that said, here we are, we’re reading from the English Standard Version this week, Ezekiel chapter 1 verse 1 through 3 verse 15.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word. We thank You for bringing us into this brand-new month, the 11th month of the year already. We thank You for bringing us into this brand-new territory, the book of Ezekiel. We open our hearts to You, we love You, we adore You, we worship You, we humble ourselves before You. We ask for Your leadership and guidance in our lives and of course, You’re not withholding from us, we’re often not paying attention, help us pay attention, as it’s now time to begin to consider how this year is going to end. And we want to finish strong. And so, we will have to listen and follow Your leadership and stay in lockstep together as we, day-by-day, step-by-step, continue through the journey of the word of God. So, come Holy Spirit, lead us into all truth. We pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Announcements:

dailyaudiobible.com is home base, it’s where you find out what’s going on around here. The Daily Audio Bible app will do that as well. And you can look for that at the App Store that works with your device, search for Daily Audio Bible and you can download the app for free.

So, today is the day, we’ve talked about it for a couple of weeks and so what is immediate on our radar, what is going on around here is that today, is release day for this brand-new resource that is coming into the world today and coming into the community today, it’s called Sleep, A Contemplative Journey. And we’ve done a bunch of talking about it, the way that it was created, the why that it was created, what it is supposed to do for us in creating space for rest and sleep and calm. And it’s November friends and so, this, this is like we’re out in front of it right now. But before this month is over, we will be, we will be engaging with the busiest time and seasons of our year. And so, this is out in front of it. It is releasing here, out in front of it all so that we have this resource, that when things get a little bit crazy, when we get a little bit too tired and were not thinking clear and we’re not thinking straight. We…we have space that we can go into that will bring calm and rest and bring the Scriptures washing over us as we calm our spirits down or meditate or rest, go to sleep. So, it is available now, wherever you get your music. And I am, I’ve been waiting for this day. I’ve been waiting for this day for a long time and so I am really excited for this to kind of land out there and be put to use as a resource around the Global Campfire. One more resource for the journey forward, one more way to remind ourselves that just living our lives with the pedal to the metal on 10, all of the time is not healthy or helpful. That rest is a part of the story, it’s part of the story of creation, it’s part of the story of the Bible, it’s a part of the story of humanity, it’s a necessity for us to be at our best. And this is the time of the year that we need, we need to be at our best. And so, Sleep, A Contemplative Journey, is now available wherever it is that you get your music. And I look forward to hearing your experiences.

Prayer and Encouragements:

Hi family, it’s Makayla from Glosser. This is just an update really. I can’t remember if I told you guys but my dad and his partner Sue, got married after ten years. They got married earlier this year. And so, you know, those connections that were there on a kind of like, have that official title of like, stepmother, stepsister, stepbrother, step-nephew and all that. But anyway, I would really appreciate prayer for my nephew Taylor. He is 16, he is struggling so much with his mental health. You know, that whole, what’s the point, everything I do, you know, I ruin everyone’s lives I touch and all that sort of stuff. And he’s not ready to hear or accept that that is not true. You and I both know that that is not true at all. You know, I can tell him and tell him and tell him and all I can do is, you know, love him, spend time with him and show him how much he’s valued. And the same, you know, with my stepsister Kate, his mom. Or his mother of choice, very, very complicated but you know, God knows. But yeah, I definitely really value your prayers for Kate and for Taylor and for Arthur and my step-mum, Sue, my dad, Mark. And for Taylor’s dad Jay, there’s a lot of stuff going on. God knows, and yeah, thank you guys. Bye.

Hey, my name is Jonathan Stanfield, this is the first time I’ve ever called. And I just, I’m turning 20 today, it’s a big day for me. And I’m super excited to just ask for prayer about how I, I really just need direction in my life. And I just love to ask ya’ll for prayer about direction for a job and yeah. Thank you.

Good morning DABers, this Is Rockhound from Georgia. And this morning, I Just wanted to call in, hopefully with a word of encouragement. After listening to Brian’s commentary and talking about not only Lamentations but Philemon today, I just wanted to call and encourage my fellow listeners and believers and brothers and sisters in Christ. That if you have some wounds that really need to be healed and you’ve been walking away from those things, you’ve been avoiding them for so long. I just want to encourage you to allow the Lord to walk through those things with you. I had a situation in my life where at least 50 years, things were buried and hidden and avoided and unspoken. And finally, the Lord led me to face that. Not only myself but some others as well. And though, it was probably one of the hardest things in my life to walk through, the Lord brought me out of it with such joy and with such freedom, amazing freedom. And I just to encourage you today, that when you walk through those things, you will be able to dance. So, dance with the Lord today when you walk through those awful, awful situations. Dance with Him because that’s what He wants you to do. I love you DABers. Brian, thank you so much for your amazing gift of DAB.

Hello DABers, this is Emily of Jim in Texas and Emily in Cartef but wait, you’ve been praying for over a year for Jim to get the spouse visa so we could be together in Cartef and God answered our prayers. And so, on the 15th of November my sweetheart arrives, and I just want to give thanks to God and thank this community for praying. And ask you to pray for our reunion and as we seek the Lord for where He wants us to be, what He wants us to be doing together and all those crazy details. As we seek to serve Him as a couple. Hallelujah! And even as I say that I keep thinking about these couples like the man whose been married four years and his wife wants out and the other man whose, who was abusive and says he’s wrecked his marriage. I’m telling you guys; God restores marriages and does amazing things in marriages. So, I want to pray for you, I want to pray for everyone who is separated from their spouse and wants to be back together with them. That God would restore these relationships, in the name of Jesus. Lord, where the enemy has stolen, You restore those years, Lord God. Lord, I pray that the spouses who have been left, would seek You, would become the men and women of God, that their spouses fell in love with, and Lord I pray, that You would bring them back, bring those spouses back, Lord. Thank You Jesus. Thank You, that You are a miracle working God. And thank You that my beloved sweetheart is coming back. Yeah.

Hello DABers, this is Kay from Ohio. I am calling to pray for a sister in Christ, I think she called on September the 24th. And towards the end, she’s talking in a whisper. And I prayed for you, and I stopped it, and I prayed, and I stopped it. I know what you feel like. Hmmm, God you heard every word she said and everything she left out. Encourage her heart and know that you are in each and every prayer, each and every tear, each and every sigh, each and every scream, each and every stomp, the slamming of the doors, by her. You see her and none of this is catching You by surprise. Even a month later. God, encourage her heart and to know that she’s asking for prayer and that she’ll be open for Your response. And if You tell her to walk away, she will say okay Lord. If You say stay, you will say ok Lord. But that she would trust You in everything. This is a hard decision. This is a hard time to wait. Because sometimes we get fed up and we’re ready to go and God says not yet. So, my sister, I pray that you would trust in the Lord and know that His ways are not our ways. And His thoughts are not our thoughts. But He is God, the Supreme One. But He’s loving and He’s kind and He will not leave you comfortless. Trust in Him. Wait on His decision. Stay in prayer. Stay in consecration at all times, no matter what it looks like, no matter what it feels like. God is still working. I love you, my sister. Be blessed.

Ezekiel 1:1-3:15

Ezekiel in Babylon

(A)In the thirtieth year, in the fourth month, on the fifth day of the month, as I was among the exiles by (B)the Chebar canal, (C)the heavens were opened, and I saw (D)visions of God.[a] On the fifth day of the month (it was (E)the fifth year of (F)the exile of King Jehoiachin), the word of the Lord came to Ezekiel (G)the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by (H)the Chebar canal, and (I)the hand of the Lord was upon him there.

The Glory of the Lord

As I looked, behold, (J)a stormy wind came (K)out of the north, and a great cloud, with (L)brightness around it, and fire flashing forth continually, and in the midst of the fire, (M)as it were gleaming metal.[b] And from the midst of it came the likeness of (N)four living creatures. (O)And this was their appearance: they had a human likeness, (P)but each had four faces, and each of them had four wings. Their legs were straight, and the soles of their feet were like the sole of a calf's foot. And they sparkled (Q)like burnished bronze. Under their wings (R)on their four sides (S)they had human hands. And the four had their faces and their wings thus: their wings touched one another. (T)Each one of them went straight forward, (U)without turning as they went. 10 As for the likeness of their faces, (V)each had a human face. The four had the face of a lion on the right side, the four had the face of an ox on the left side, and the four had the face of an eagle. 11 Such were their faces. And their wings were spread out above. Each creature had two wings, each of which touched the wing of another, while (W)two covered their bodies. 12 (X)And each went straight forward. (Y)Wherever the spirit[c] would go, they went, without turning as they went. 13 As for the likeness of the living creatures, their appearance was (Z)like burning coals of fire, (AA)like the appearance of torches moving to and fro among the living creatures. (AB)And the fire was bright, and out of the fire went forth lightning. 14 And the living creatures (AC)darted to and fro, (AD)like the appearance of a flash of lightning.

15 (AE)Now as I looked at the living creatures, I saw a wheel on the earth beside the living creatures, one for each of the four of them.[d] 16 (AF)As for the appearance of the wheels and their construction: their appearance was like (AG)the gleaming of beryl. (AH)And the four had the same likeness, their appearance and construction being as it were a wheel within a wheel. 17 (AI)When they went, they went (AJ)in any of their four directions[e] (AK)without turning as they went. 18 And their rims were tall and awesome, (AL)and the rims of all four were full of eyes all around. 19 (AM)And when the living creatures went, the wheels went beside them; (AN)and when the living creatures rose from the earth, the wheels rose. 20 (AO)Wherever the spirit wanted to go, they went, and the wheels rose along with them, (AP)for the spirit of the living creatures[f] was in the wheels. 21 (AQ)When those went, these went; and when those stood, these stood; (AR)and when those rose from the earth, the wheels rose along with them, (AS)for the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels.

22 Over the heads of the living creatures there was (AT)the likeness of an expanse, shining like awe-inspiring (AU)crystal, spread out above their heads. 23 And under the expanse their wings were (AV)stretched out straight, one toward another. (AW)And each creature had two wings covering its body. 24 And when they went, I heard the sound of their wings (AX)like the sound of many waters, like (AY)the sound of the (AZ)Almighty, a sound of tumult (BA)like the sound of an army. When they stood still, they let down their wings. 25 And there came a voice from above (BB)the expanse over their heads. When they stood still, they let down their wings.

26 And above the expanse over their heads there was (BC)the likeness of a throne, (BD)in appearance (BE)like sapphire;[g] and seated above the likeness of a throne was (BF)a likeness with a human appearance. 27 And (BG)upward from what had the appearance of his waist I saw as it were (BH)gleaming metal, like the appearance of fire enclosed all around. And downward from what had the appearance of his waist I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and (BI)there was brightness around him.[h] 28 Like the appearance of (BJ)the bow that is in the cloud on the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness all around.

Such was the appearance of the likeness of (BK)the glory of the Lord. And when I saw it, (BL)I fell on my face, and I heard the voice of one speaking.

Ezekiel's Call

And he said to me, (BM)“Son of man,[i] (BN)stand on your feet, and I will speak with you.” And as he spoke to me, (BO)the Spirit entered into me and (BP)set me on my feet, and I heard him speaking to me. And he said to me, “Son of man, I send you to the people of Israel, to (BQ)nations of rebels, who have rebelled against me. (BR)They and their fathers have transgressed against me to this very day. The descendants also are (BS)impudent and stubborn: I send you to them, and you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God.’ And (BT)whether they hear or refuse to hear (for they are (BU)a rebellious house) (BV)they will know that a prophet has been among them. And you, son of man, (BW)be not afraid of them, nor be afraid of their words, (BX)though briers and thorns are with you and you sit on (BY)scorpions.[j] Be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, for they are a rebellious house. And you shall speak my words to them, (BZ)whether they hear or refuse to hear, for they are a rebellious house.

“But you, son of man, hear what I say to you. (CA)Be not rebellious like that rebellious house; open your mouth and (CB)eat what I give you.” And when I looked, behold, (CC)a hand was stretched out to me, and behold, (CD)a scroll of a book was in it. 10 And he spread it before me. And it had writing (CE)on the front and on the back, and there were written on it words of lamentation and mourning and woe.

And he said to me, (CF)“Son of man, eat whatever you find here. (CG)Eat this scroll, and go, speak to the house of Israel.” So I opened my mouth, and he gave me this scroll to eat. And he said to me, “Son of man, feed your belly with this scroll that I give you and fill your stomach with it.” (CH)Then I ate it, and it was in my mouth (CI)as sweet as honey.

And he said to me, (CJ)“Son of man, go to the house of Israel and speak with my words to them. For you are not sent to a people of foreign speech and a hard language, but to the house of Israel— not to many peoples of foreign speech and a hard language, whose words you cannot understand. (CK)Surely, if I sent you to such, they would listen to you. (CL)But the house of Israel will not be willing to listen to you, for they are not willing to listen to me: because all the house of Israel (CM)have a hard forehead and a stubborn heart. (CN)Behold, I have made your face as hard as their faces, and your forehead as hard as their foreheads. Like (CO)emery harder than flint have I made your forehead. (CP)Fear them not, nor be dismayed at their looks, for they are a rebellious house.” 10 Moreover, he said to me, “Son of man, (CQ)all my words that I shall speak to you receive (CR)in your heart, and hear with your ears. 11 And go to the exiles, (CS)to your people, and speak to them and say to them, (CT)‘Thus says the Lord God,’ (CU)whether they hear or refuse to hear.”

12 (CV)Then the Spirit[k] lifted me up, and I heard behind me the voice[l] of (CW)a great earthquake: “Blessed be the glory of the Lord from its place!” 13 It was the sound of the wings of (CX)the living creatures as they touched one another, and the sound of the wheels beside them, and the sound of (CY)a great earthquake. 14 (CZ)The Spirit lifted me up and took me away, and I went in bitterness in the heat of my spirit, the (DA)hand of the Lord being strong upon me. 15 (DB)And I came to the exiles at Tel-abib, who were dwelling (DC)by the Chebar canal, and I sat where they were dwelling.[m] And (DD)I sat there (DE)overwhelmed among them (DF)seven days.

Hebrews 3

Jesus Greater Than Moses

Therefore, holy brothers,[a] you who share in (A)a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, (B)the apostle and high priest of our confession, who was faithful to him who appointed him, (C)just as Moses also was faithful in all God's[b] house. For Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses—as much more glory as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself. (For every house is built by someone, but (D)the builder of all things is God.) (E)Now Moses was faithful in all God's house (F)as a servant, (G)to testify to the things that were to be spoken later, but Christ is faithful over God's house as (H)a son. And (I)we are his house, if indeed we (J)hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope.[c]

A Rest for the People of God

Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says,

(K)“Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion,
on the day of testing in the wilderness,
where your fathers put me to the test
and saw my works for (L)forty years.
10 Therefore I was provoked with that generation,
and said, ‘They always go astray in their heart;
they have not known my ways.’
11 (M)As I swore in my wrath,
‘They shall not enter my rest.’”

12 Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from (N)the living God. 13 But (O)exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by (P)the deceitfulness of sin. 14 For we have come to share in Christ, (Q)if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end. 15 As it is said,

(R)“Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”

16 For (S)who were those who heard and yet rebelled? Was it not (T)all those who left Egypt led by Moses? 17 And with whom was he provoked for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, (U)whose bodies fell in the wilderness? 18 And to whom did he swear that (V)they would not enter his rest, but to those who were disobedient? 19 So we see that (W)they were unable to enter because of unbelief.

Psalm 104:1-23

O Lord My God, You Are Very Great

104 (A)Bless the Lord, O my soul!
O Lord my God, you are (B)very great!
(C)You are clothed with splendor and majesty,
covering yourself with light as with a garment,
(D)stretching out the heavens (E)like a tent.
He (F)lays the beams of his (G)chambers on the waters;
he makes (H)the clouds his chariot;
he rides on (I)the wings of the wind;
he (J)makes his messengers winds,
his (K)ministers (L)a flaming fire.

He (M)set the earth on its foundations,
so that it should never be moved.
You (N)covered it with the deep as with a garment;
the waters stood above the mountains.
At (O)your rebuke they fled;
at (P)the sound of your thunder they (Q)took to flight.
The mountains rose, the valleys sank down
to the place that you (R)appointed for them.
You set (S)a boundary that they may not pass,
so that they (T)might not again cover the earth.

10 You make springs gush forth in the valleys;
they flow between the hills;
11 they (U)give drink to every beast of the field;
the wild donkeys quench their thirst.
12 Beside them the birds of the heavens dwell;
they sing among the branches.
13 (V)From your lofty abode you (W)water the mountains;
the earth is satisfied with the fruit of your work.

14 You cause (X)the grass to grow for the livestock
and (Y)plants for man to cultivate,
that he may bring forth (Z)food from the earth
15 and (AA)wine to gladden the heart of man,
(AB)oil to make his face shine
and bread to (AC)strengthen man's heart.

16 The trees of the Lord are watered abundantly,
(AD)the cedars of Lebanon (AE)that he planted.
17 In them the birds build their nests;
the stork has her home in the fir trees.
18 The high mountains are for (AF)the wild goats;
the rocks are a refuge for (AG)the rock badgers.

19 He made the moon to mark the (AH)seasons;[a]
the sun knows its time for setting.
20 (AI)You make darkness, and it is night,
when all the beasts of the forest creep about.
21 (AJ)The young lions roar for their prey,
seeking their food from God.
22 When the sun rises, they steal away
and lie down in their (AK)dens.
23 (AL)Man goes out to his work
and to his labor until the evening.

Proverbs 26:24-26

24 Whoever hates disguises himself with his lips
and harbors deceit in his heart;
25 (A)when he speaks graciously, believe him not,
for there are (B)seven abominations in his heart;
26 though his hatred be covered with deception,
his wickedness will be exposed in the assembly.
