Numbers 8:1-9:23, Mark 13:14-37, Psalms 50:1-23, Proverbs 10:29-30

Today is the 7th day of March. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian and it is a joy and an honor to be here with you today and we’re here to take the next step forward. For me, the next step forward out of jet lag, but for all of us the next step forward in the Scriptures. So, this week we’ve been reading from the New Living Translation, which is what we’ll continue to do through the remainder of the week. And, of course, we’re picking up where we left off yesterday. Numbers chapter 8 and 9 today.

Commentary:

Okay. So, the book of Proverbs told us today that “the way of the Lord is a stronghold to those with integrity but the way of the Lord destroys the wicked.” So, the way of the Lord is the way of the Lord and depending on how you approach the way of the Lord determines how the way of the Lord will have an impact on you, right? So, the way of the Lord is a stronghold if we have integrity, but the way of the Lord will be destroying us before if we’re wicked. I mean this is like…typically this is fine and good with us, we like the encouragement because the first part, God’s gonna be our stronghold and, of course, that’s because we’re the upright, we have integrity. We consider ourselves on the positive side of the equation, but are we? Because God’s purpose in the world is to heal and restore it bringing humanity back into relationship with Himself and part of that restoration is the abolition of wickedness, right, the annihilation of evil and deception in every form because it can’t coexist with the righteousness of God and it goes against all we were ever created to be. Wickedness is counter to redemption. The Proverb tells us the Godly will never be disturbed but the wicked will be removed from the land. And if words like that, like, immediately take us to our political views or for that matter make us cast judgment on somebody, like there, they’re getting what they deserve just like the Bible says, then we have to look a little deeper into our own hearts because honestly, we’re wandering into pretty wicked territory. When we put ourselves in the position of a cosmic judge then we are putting ourselves in the position of God. And when we do this apart from God, then we’re denying the way of the Lord and this will destroy us in the end, according to the Proverb. So, if we want to live a life knowing that God is our stronghold and that we will not be disturbed then we have to take responsibility for our personal integrity and not everybody else’s. This is what the voice of wisdom has to speak to us today.

Prayer:

Holy Spirit, plant the words of wisdom in our lives because we are determined to become wise, people of wisdom, we are determined to follow You and be Your hands and feet in this world. And, so, Your word has come to us, the voice of wisdom has spoken to us, and we are once again reminded to get our eyes off everyone else’s life and onto our own. Come Holy Spirit we pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hi, this is Kenisha out of Atlanta and I was calling in regards to Suzy out of Colorado. I heard your story or your prayer request where praying…asking for prayer for your kid. I was just so moved about what I heard…the job that you’re doing or the service that you’re giving to those kids, providing, being a mom and dad to so many kids. God is truly blessing you with that and I heard your prayer request of how you can get overwhelmed…not overwhelmed but emotionally drained or financially. So, I’m just calling to let you know that I am praying for you and lifting you up in prayer to continue to give you and your husband and your family strength to continue to do God’s work. I think it’s amazing what you’re doing. God bless you and your family. And also, I’m calling for prayer for Art. I heard your prayer request and I just wanted you to know that I am praying for you too. I understand what it’s like to have to endure people’s pain. So, I’m just praying for healing throughout your body and that they can find the answers that you need so you can be healed. Thank you. Bye.

Hi family, this is Christy from Kentucky, traveling, so, and my heart is just broken today for the devastation in Alabama and in Georgia and all the lives that have been lost and I just…family I just can’t tell you of…we were supposed to be right in the middle of that yesterday. We left Florida and we were late. We came to Gainesville and when we got to Gainesville we had a tire on the car that was separated and we didn’t know it. And, so, when we got here, we have friends here and we stopped to visit them and my husband found it and it was Sunday and they couldn’t find tires for it and so we were gonna have to spend the night and we got to elderly dogs at home and the sitters were like put out with us because it’s so late, but God in His mercy…and I’m so grateful to Him because we would’ve been right in the middle of that storm had this not happened and I just thank God for His faithfulness in taking care of us and keeping us safe. I just wanted to call in today because I’m just…my heart is just broken for these people and I’m so grateful that we were not in that storm. I love you guys so much. Please pray for continued safety. The tire store’s not been very gracious but I’m praying that they did a good job on our car so we can get home. I love you guys so very much, and I pray that each of you today are going to have a blessed and lovely day and that you safe.

Hi DABbers, this is Kara calling from Denver, mile high city and I just…I would like prayers today for me. I want to learn how to be a warrior, a spiritual warrior, a warrior for Christ and for God. I’ve always been just really kind of a jellyfish and real pacifist I guess and I’ve lost really, really big things in my life because I’ve been…I’ve been so…kind of in the hands of the enemy and so entrenched, you know, in the kingdom of darkness that I just didn’t know how to fight and specifically with my children. I have…I should, you know, have a house of children and I don’t…it’s by myself and, of course, decisions that I made lead me to be in this situation. But I didn’t fight…I didn’t fight for my kids and they were…one was taken from me and I didn’t fight to get her back and she is with an adopted family and she’s…her name is McKenna and she’s with a good Christian family I think. So, that’s really comforting but she’s not with me and it just does not seem right and my heart is broken and my son who is in open adoption and I decided to do that because I didn’t feel…I didn’t have the confidence in myself that I could take care of my own children and I couldn’t be with the father, you know, of these two children. And I just didn’t know how to fight, and I really want to…I want to learn how to fight…

Hello fellow DABbers, this is Mike from New Jersey, I’m a first-time caller, I’ve been listening for about four years though and I had to call today. Jill, when you, I guess, providentially used the wrong readings today that was a blessing for me, especially when you said in your exposition gospel that anything can be redeemed. I mean, that was exactly what I needed to hear today. I am struggling in my marriage and need prayer for myself and my wife. She says we need to be apart, we’ve been apart for a year now and it just so happens that today is our 30th anniversary, being March 4th. So, appreciate your prayers guys and really for anyone who’s struggling in their marriage. You know God is using the where I’m right now. He’s treating me with kid gloves really and maybe I need to be moved along a little bit as well. So, thank you so much guys. Thank you, Brian and Jill for your ministry and praise God is using you guys.

The Daily Audio Bible Reading for Thursday March 7, 2019 (NIV)

Numbers 8-9

Preparing the Lamps

The Lord said to Moses, “Give Aaron the following instructions: When you set up the seven lamps in the lampstand, place them so their light shines forward in front of the lampstand.” So Aaron did this. He set up the seven lamps so they reflected their light forward, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. The entire lampstand, from its base to its decorative blossoms, was made of beaten gold. It was built according to the exact design the Lord had shown Moses.

The Levites Dedicated

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Now set the Levites apart from the rest of the people of Israel and make them ceremonially clean. Do this by sprinkling them with the water of purification, and have them shave their entire body and wash their clothing. Then they will be ceremonially clean. Have them bring a young bull and a grain offering of choice flour moistened with olive oil, along with a second young bull for a sin offering. Then assemble the whole community of Israel, and present the Levites at the entrance of the Tabernacle.[a] 10 When you present the Levites before the Lord, the people of Israel must lay their hands on them. 11 Raising his hands, Aaron must then present the Levites to the Lord as a special offering from the people of Israel, thus dedicating them to the Lord’s service.

12 “Next the Levites will lay their hands on the heads of the young bulls. Present one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering to the Lord, to purify the Levites and make them right with the Lord.[b] 13 Then have the Levites stand in front of Aaron and his sons, and raise your hands and present them as a special offering to the Lord. 14 In this way, you will set the Levites apart from the rest of the people of Israel, and the Levites will belong to me. 15 After this, they may go into the Tabernacle to do their work, because you have purified them and presented them as a special offering.

16 “Of all the people of Israel, the Levites are reserved for me. I have claimed them for myself in place of all the firstborn sons of the Israelites; I have taken the Levites as their substitutes. 17 For all the firstborn males among the people of Israel are mine, both of people and of animals. I set them apart for myself on the day I struck down all the firstborn sons of the Egyptians. 18 Yes, I have claimed the Levites in place of all the firstborn sons of Israel. 19 And of all the Israelites, I have assigned the Levites to Aaron and his sons. They will serve in the Tabernacle on behalf of the Israelites and make sacrifices to purify[c] the people so no plague will strike them when they approach the sanctuary.”

20 So Moses, Aaron, and the whole community of Israel dedicated the Levites, carefully following all the Lord’s instructions to Moses. 21 The Levites purified themselves from sin and washed their clothes, and Aaron lifted them up and presented them to the Lord as a special offering. He then offered a sacrifice to purify them and make them right with the Lord.[d] 22 After that the Levites went into the Tabernacle to perform their duties, assisting Aaron and his sons. So they carried out all the commands that the Lord gave Moses concerning the Levites.

23 The Lord also instructed Moses, 24 “This is the rule the Levites must follow: They must begin serving in the Tabernacle at the age of twenty-five, 25 and they must retire at the age of fifty. 26 After retirement they may assist their fellow Levites by serving as guards at the Tabernacle, but they may not officiate in the service. This is how you must assign duties to the Levites.”

The Second Passover

A year after Israel’s departure from Egypt, the Lord spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai. In the first month[e] of that year he said, “Tell the Israelites to celebrate the Passover at the prescribed time, at twilight on the fourteenth day of the first month.[f] Be sure to follow all my decrees and regulations concerning this celebration.”

So Moses told the people to celebrate the Passover in the wilderness of Sinai as twilight fell on the fourteenth day of the month. And they celebrated the festival there, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. But some of the men had been ceremonially defiled by touching a dead body, so they could not celebrate the Passover that day. They came to Moses and Aaron that day and said, “We have become ceremonially unclean by touching a dead body. But why should we be prevented from presenting the Lord’s offering at the proper time with the rest of the Israelites?”

Moses answered, “Wait here until I have received instructions for you from the Lord.”

This was the Lord’s reply to Moses. 10 “Give the following instructions to the people of Israel: If any of the people now or in future generations are ceremonially unclean at Passover time because of touching a dead body, or if they are on a journey and cannot be present at the ceremony, they may still celebrate the Lord’s Passover. 11 They must offer the Passover sacrifice one month later, at twilight on the fourteenth day of the second month.[g] They must eat the Passover lamb at that time with bitter salad greens and bread made without yeast. 12 They must not leave any of the lamb until the next morning, and they must not break any of its bones. They must follow all the normal regulations concerning the Passover.

13 “But those who neglect to celebrate the Passover at the regular time, even though they are ceremonially clean and not away on a trip, will be cut off from the community of Israel. If they fail to present the Lord’s offering at the proper time, they will suffer the consequences of their guilt. 14 And if foreigners living among you want to celebrate the Passover to the Lord, they must follow these same decrees and regulations. The same laws apply both to native-born Israelites and to the foreigners living among you.”

The Fiery Cloud

15 On the day the Tabernacle was set up, the cloud covered it.[h] But from evening until morning the cloud over the Tabernacle looked like a pillar of fire. 16 This was the regular pattern—at night the cloud that covered the Tabernacle had the appearance of fire. 17 Whenever the cloud lifted from over the sacred tent, the people of Israel would break camp and follow it. And wherever the cloud settled, the people of Israel would set up camp. 18 In this way, they traveled and camped at the Lord’s command wherever he told them to go. Then they remained in their camp as long as the cloud stayed over the Tabernacle. 19 If the cloud remained over the Tabernacle for a long time, the Israelites stayed and performed their duty to the Lord. 20 Sometimes the cloud would stay over the Tabernacle for only a few days, so the people would stay for only a few days, as the Lord commanded. Then at the Lord’s command they would break camp and move on. 21 Sometimes the cloud stayed only overnight and lifted the next morning. But day or night, when the cloud lifted, the people broke camp and moved on. 22 Whether the cloud stayed above the Tabernacle for two days, a month, or a year, the people of Israel stayed in camp and did not move on. But as soon as it lifted, they broke camp and moved on. 23 So they camped or traveled at the Lord’s command, and they did whatever the Lord told them through Moses.

Mark 13:14-37

14 “The day is coming when you will see the sacrilegious object that causes desecration[a] standing where he[b] should not be.” (Reader, pay attention!) “Then those in Judea must flee to the hills. 15 A person out on the deck of a roof must not go down into the house to pack. 16 A person out in the field must not return even to get a coat. 17 How terrible it will be for pregnant women and for nursing mothers in those days. 18 And pray that your flight will not be in winter. 19 For there will be greater anguish in those days than at any time since God created the world. And it will never be so great again. 20 In fact, unless the Lord shortens that time of calamity, not a single person will survive. But for the sake of his chosen ones he has shortened those days.

21 “Then if anyone tells you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah,’ or ‘There he is,’ don’t believe it. 22 For false messiahs and false prophets will rise up and perform signs and wonders so as to deceive, if possible, even God’s chosen ones. 23 Watch out! I have warned you about this ahead of time!

24 “At that time, after the anguish of those days,

the sun will be darkened,
the moon will give no light,
25 the stars will fall from the sky,
and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.[c]

26 Then everyone will see the Son of Man[d] coming on the clouds with great power and glory.[e] 27 And he will send out his angels to gather his chosen ones from all over the world[f]—from the farthest ends of the earth and heaven.

28 “Now learn a lesson from the fig tree. When its branches bud and its leaves begin to sprout, you know that summer is near. 29 In the same way, when you see all these things taking place, you can know that his return is very near, right at the door. 30 I tell you the truth, this generation[g] will not pass from the scene before all these things take place. 31 Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear.

32 “However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows. 33 And since you don’t know when that time will come, be on guard! Stay alert[h]!

34 “The coming of the Son of Man can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. When he left home, he gave each of his slaves instructions about the work they were to do, and he told the gatekeeper to watch for his return. 35 You, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know when the master of the household will return—in the evening, at midnight, before dawn, or at daybreak. 36 Don’t let him find you sleeping when he arrives without warning. 37 I say to you what I say to everyone: Watch for him!”

Psalm 50

Psalm 50

A psalm of Asaph.

The Lord, the Mighty One, is God,
and he has spoken;
he has summoned all humanity
from where the sun rises to where it sets.
From Mount Zion, the perfection of beauty,
God shines in glorious radiance.
Our God approaches,
and he is not silent.
Fire devours everything in his way,
and a great storm rages around him.
He calls on the heavens above and earth below
to witness the judgment of his people.
“Bring my faithful people to me—
those who made a covenant with me by giving sacrifices.”
Then let the heavens proclaim his justice,
for God himself will be the judge. Interlude

“O my people, listen as I speak.
Here are my charges against you, O Israel:
I am God, your God!
I have no complaint about your sacrifices
or the burnt offerings you constantly offer.
But I do not need the bulls from your barns
or the goats from your pens.
10 For all the animals of the forest are mine,
and I own the cattle on a thousand hills.
11 I know every bird on the mountains,
and all the animals of the field are mine.
12 If I were hungry, I would not tell you,
for all the world is mine and everything in it.
13 Do I eat the meat of bulls?
Do I drink the blood of goats?
14 Make thankfulness your sacrifice to God,
and keep the vows you made to the Most High.
15 Then call on me when you are in trouble,
and I will rescue you,
and you will give me glory.”

16 But God says to the wicked:
“Why bother reciting my decrees
and pretending to obey my covenant?
17 For you refuse my discipline
and treat my words like trash.
18 When you see thieves, you approve of them,
and you spend your time with adulterers.
19 Your mouth is filled with wickedness,
and your tongue is full of lies.
20 You sit around and slander your brother—
your own mother’s son.
21 While you did all this, I remained silent,
and you thought I didn’t care.
But now I will rebuke you,
listing all my charges against you.
22 Repent, all of you who forget me,
or I will tear you apart,
and no one will help you.
23 But giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me.
If you keep to my path,
I will reveal to you the salvation of God.”

Numbers 6:1-7:89, Mark 12:38-13:13, Psalms 49:1-20, Proverbs 10:27-28

Today is the 6th day of March. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian. It is so good to be back together with you from the rolling Hills of Tennessee. And I certainly thank my beautiful and lovely and gracious wife Jill for stepping in and driving the ship for a couple of days while I do some recovery fromm returning from Israel. So, like, you know, you’re there and you are on adrenaline quite a bit of the time and you kind of go in tired because your jetlagged. Even if you get a little rest your still on adrenaline and drinking from a fire hose the whole time. And, so, you’re getting enough sleep but you’re still tired, you’re not realizing how tired you are until you come back and then you’re tired and jetlagged. And, so, for me it’s kind of like a couple of days of truly like, what is my purpose in life again, where am I again because it’s like my body is in one place, my heart has still has not arrived. And, so, thanks to Jill for coming in for a couple of days and I’m on my way back to recovery. So, we’re reading from the New Living Translation this week and we started reading from this translation from Jerusalem and although that feels like a long time ago to me, that was only a few days ago. And, so, we’ll pick up with the story. Today, Numbers chapter 6 and 7.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word. We thank You for all that You have brought us through all that Your word has given us guidance on in our lives. We thank You for the journey that we’ve just completed and as all of us who were on that pilgrimage are acclimating back to home, we can see that the Bible isn’t the same thing as it used to be because now we see things in vivid color and we thank You for that opportunity and we thank You for the opportunity to do everything that we can as a community to connect us to the geography of the land so that we are rooted where these things happened, but to also begin to understand the context of why they happened when they happened so that these things can begin to inform our lives properly. Thank You, God for Your word. Thank You, Lord for Your Holy Spirit’s guidance. Come Holy Spirit and plant the word of God that we read today in our hearts and lives and may the fruit of Your Spirit be bountiful, a bountiful rich harvest that is shared with the world for Your sake. Come Holy Spirit we pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Announcements:

Okay. So today, jetlagged as I might be and confused about where I am, I do know that today is Ash Wednesday. And, so, for many of you, you know that and, I mean, you’ll be attending some sort of Ash Wednesday service today and the ashes of palms will be put on your forehead in the shape of a cross and you’ll walk around with a black mark on your forehead all day understanding exactly what this represents and for others of you, you’re like, I’ve heard of Ash Wednesday, I kinda knew about the black smudge, I don’t really know exactly what Lent or Ash Wednesday’s about so tell me more. So, I’m glad you asked. Ash Wednesday and the beginning of the season of Lent will lead us all away to Good Friday, which will of course lead us to Easter Sunday. So, the season of Lent is a season, much like the season of Advent that leads up to Christmas, the season of Lent leads us into Easter and it’s a 40 day and it’s traditionally associated with fasting. So, you may meet people who are like, I’ve given up chocolate for Lent, or I’m not watching TV for Lent or whatever and that’s kind of part of the tradition, but it really goes much, much deeper than that. It’s not about really fasting chocolate, although fasting chocolate or fasting television or whatever reminds you that something that is part of your normal life is missing. And, so, you’re continually reminded to consider what Lent means. Lent is the time we sit with the fact that sin kills, sin only leads to destruction, sin only brings about loss. And, so, Lent is actually a season of lamenting what it cost to bring us our salvation and the elimination of sins hold in our lives. And yet at the same time even though we know our sins are forgiven we also know that we willingly turn back into sin and that only goes one place. And the cross is the reminder of where that goes. Sin estranges us from God and destroys us. So, during the season of Lent it’s not only about like fasting chocolate, maybe that’s what the Lord will lead you to do, but the posture of heart is to be, “Father, I surrender everything. Whatever is out of alignment in my life, I ask that during this season while I’m focusing on this, you rearrange my life and the things that are in my life that belong in my life, put them where they belong in my life and the things that do not belong in my life take them from my life. Everything is on display before you and nothing is off limits to you as I sit with the cost, the price, of sin. And, so, often that does include some sort of fasting, depriving ourselves, allowing ourselves to sit with a loss of some sort, a constant reminder of where our heart is focused, leading us, right, into holy week, and Good Friday where we commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus, which is territory that we’re about to head into the book of Mark. And then often, you know, there are Good Friday services and maybe many of you go to Good Friday services just like you go to Christmas Eve services. And a lot of times traditionally in a Good Friday service there’s a candle and at the end of that service the candle is blown out and you realize Jesus died, the flame of life went out, He grew cold, He was laid in a tomb, He began to stiffen, He began to turn blue…like He was dead. Our Savior, our closest ally was dead in a tomb, right? And then that leads us into understanding the magnitude of what we’re talking about when we talk about Easter. And, of course, Easter will come and we will rejoice but now we begin the season of Lent that moves us toward Easter. And, of course, Lent isn’t a command in the Bible, you’re not even gonna find it in the Bible. So, it’s up to you, you know. But I didn’t grow up observing Lent, but in my adult years, as I began to understand our church history and the context for the different customs and rituals that we have in our faith I began to realize this could be very valuable. And, so, it is. I for sure try to keep my heart’s posture correct going through this season and I have found it rich and in meaningful, as have billionths of our brothers and sisters over the last millennia and a half. So, today is Ash Wednesday and today begins the season of Lent and that is a bit about what the season of Lent commemorates.

Okay. dailyaudiobible.com is the website and its home base, its where you find out what’s going on around here.

And, as you know, we’re just trying to re-emerge, re-immerse ourselves in the life that we normally live and gotta move past the jet lag and just all of the memories, all of the experiences that come with a pilgrimage like the one that we’ve just done. They just come flooding in. They just…you remember certain places like, oh, when I was standing in the desert and dust was swirling around. Oh when I was standing at the Red Sea and just thinking about what that would be like, or when a I was in Galilee and overlooking the sea of Galilee and all of its splendor and realizing this is the view that Jesus saw every day. This is where he chose to base a ministry that continues to radically change the world. It’s pretty profound. It’s pretty profound to be in Jerusalem at the Wailing Wall or to walk up on top of the Temple Mount or to be in the dungeon where Jesus was held before His crucifixion. I mean all of these things just begin to flood back in and remind, at least me, remind me of the journey and why we’re on this journey and why we show up every day to take the next step forward. It’s because God did some profound things in the world and we can still visit some of these places and just contextualize them and understand that He is continuing to do profound things in the world. And as the body of Christ we are the means by which He does these profound things in the world. And just to begin to understand that we are part of an ongoing story. And yes, we can visit ruins, right? We can look at piles of rocks at locations where things happen thousands of years ago and just walk away from that or we can realize I am a part of the story that began with this pile of rocks right here. I am in the same story and my own rocks are being piled up. How do I carry that story forward because it’s the same story and it profoundly affects the way we live our lives as it should and as the Bible continually reminds us. So, you know, I guess this is kind of the official ending I of this journey and we will continue forward in our year, but if you want to go next year, absolutely, registration is open for 2020. You can find that in the Initiatives section at dailyaudiobible.com. zyo can find out all about all about the trip, everything that you would want to know.

The other thing that we are reminding everyone about is the forthcoming More Gathering in the mountains of North Georgia at Sharp Top Mountain. And it’s about an hour outside of Atlanta and this will be the final More Gathering up on top of that mountain in North Georgia. We have no idea…we are praying into what is next. All we know is this is the end of that. So, I couldn’t tell you that there will be another More Gathering and I couldn’t tell you where that might be until we get some more clarity. We’re just walking in obedience. But as we do that we’re certainly celebrating. If the Lord is bringing us to the end of something He’s bringing us in the beginning of something. And, so, we’re certainly celebrating the milestones that have happened on that mountain, the lives that have been irreversibly changed on that mountain, the way that Jesus has come for every woman in his own way, in a language they can understand. It’s a beautiful thing. So, I hope you can be there. If your lady, I hope you can be there for this memorable time and this monumental event that we’re commemorating. You find all of the details at moregathering.com or just go to dailyaudiobible.com in the Initiatives section, same place you would find Israel 2020, and look for the More Gathering and you can get all the details there and register. Hope to see you.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hi, this is Sonja calling from Tampa. I’d like to pray. Lord I ask that You look upon the broken hearted, those that are feeling lonely, those that feel like there’s no direction or hope in their lives, those that are facing financial challenges and medical challenges to reveal Yourself to them Lord so that they may know that You are God Jehovah. I also ask that You look upon Noah and Isa. I bind every demonic principality that has come against them in the name of Jesus. I plead the blood of Jesus upon them and command their bodies to be aligned with Your word, that by Your stripes they are healed. I command the angels of God to encamp all around them and the rest of my DAB family waging war against every fiery dart of the enemy and canceling every assignment that the enemy has set forth against them. Let them know that You are Jehovah Elohim, the powerful and mighty God, Jehovah the Lord that is present, that You are always with us, Jehovah Jira, that You are the Lord of their __, Jehovah Shalom that You are the Lord of peace over their lives, You are Elohim, the most high God and Elohim our everlasting God. My DAB family hold steadfast to God for He will never leave You nor forsake You. And I also want to thank Protected by His Wings who read Psalms 91, one of my favorite Psalms. For many years during spiritual warfare I kept my Bible open to that particular Psalm. Thank You my dear DAB family, and be blessed.

Hi, my name is Angela, I’m calling from California. I just really still need you guys prayers. I’m still battling this suicide. I have…I’ve just been…it’s on my mind every day and I’ve written letters to my family and everything. I went back and read through it again and I just started bawling and crying because I’m just so upset about it. It’s my mind, it’s my mental status, it’s really got me __ and I just don’t know what to do. And I know my daughter’s about to have a baby and everything and I’ve been trying to live through her happiness and just be happy for her and…but when she’s gone I get back into the same kind of mind that I was in before and it’s so hard on me and I don’t want to leave my family without me but then sometimes I think about it and I just thank I can’t feel my emotions anymore, I feel dead inside and I don’t want to feel that way anymore. I’m sti ll hurting so bad and I don’t know where to turn or what to do. I just need God to come into my heart and fill my heart with love because it’s so hard for me to fill it. I just need you guys to pray for me if you could please. I want to feel the love and the connection again. The doctors say they can’t do anything else for me. So, I just need somebody to pray for me and just keep me in their prayers and just for something to help me. I know that God’s available…

Hi this is Vanessa in Texas and I am calling because this weekend the Lord has shown me an error in my way. Three years ago, I said something that really hurt my best friend and wounded his heart in a way that I had no idea. And this weekend I learned that even though we are still very good friends he still hasn’t forgiven me for offending him back them. And I didn’t mean to. I thought I was making a better choice of the two choices and instead I chose the words that would hurt him the most rather then, choosing the words that would have humbled me back then. So, I’m asking for repentance. I have seen the errors of my way and I’m calling to repent, and I want to move on and learn from this and to ask for his forgiveness. He doesn’t listen to the Daily Audio Bible, but he still hasn’t forgiven me and maybe if you forgive me he will to. I’m so sorry. Thank you. I love you all.

Hi this is Victoria soldier just calling to pray for some of the DABbers. I just want to pray for the mother who had a daughter who was molested by her father and the father was also a preacher. Lord, just praying, let you know that I’m praying for you. This is…this is so vicious and so…this is so deep…but you know, it’s good to know that God can handle deep, God can handle anything and I just want you to know I’m praying with your daughter and because God is able to do exceedingly. I’m gonna pray for Tracy from Vancouver and also want to pray for Noah, Noah who has been sick I’m gonna pray for him. I want to pray for Tim because he was talking about changing, let him know that we can try to do everything to change ourselves, but God is the ultimate, God can do anything but fail. We can’t you do nothing to change our self except let God have his way in our lives. I want to talk to the Wolfes who lost their…I think it was their daughter. I’m praying with you, I’m praying with the family, I know it’s difficult and I’m praying for the family of the daughter also and I just wanted to pray for Viola and the son Daniel and Dominic. I want to pray for them. Gracious Father we come before You today, Father in the name of Jesus, Lord we just praise Your name, we magnify You, Lord we have some deep things tonight but we know that nothings impossible for God. Oh Lord we just ask that You Have Your Way. Lord we need Your miracle working power, we need Your grace and Your mercy, oh Lord we need You tonight, we need You to touch those names I called out, Lord we need You to touch the names that I didn’t call out that are going through similar or the same thing or that are just going through. Father, You have Your way. We just touch…Lord just…just…

Numbers 6-7

Nazirite Laws

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Give the following instructions to the people of Israel.

“If any of the people, either men or women, take the special vow of a Nazirite, setting themselves apart to the Lord in a special way, they must give up wine and other alcoholic drinks. They must not use vinegar made from wine or from other alcoholic drinks, they must not drink fresh grape juice, and they must not eat grapes or raisins. As long as they are bound by their Nazirite vow, they are not allowed to eat or drink anything that comes from a grapevine—not even the grape seeds or skins.

“They must never cut their hair throughout the time of their vow, for they are holy and set apart to the Lord. Until the time of their vow has been fulfilled, they must let their hair grow long. And they must not go near a dead body during the entire period of their vow to the Lord. Even if the dead person is their own father, mother, brother, or sister, they must not defile themselves, for the hair on their head is the symbol of their separation to God. This requirement applies as long as they are set apart to the Lord.

“If someone falls dead beside them, the hair they have dedicated will be defiled. They must wait for seven days and then shave their heads. Then they will be cleansed from their defilement. 10 On the eighth day they must bring two turtledoves or two young pigeons to the priest at the entrance of the Tabernacle.[a] 11 The priest will offer one of the birds for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering. In this way, he will purify them[b] from the guilt they incurred through contact with the dead body. Then they must reaffirm their commitment and let their hair begin to grow again. 12 The days of their vow that were completed before their defilement no longer count. They must rededicate themselves to the Lord as a Nazirite for the full term of their vow, and each must bring a one-year-old male lamb for a guilt offering.

13 “This is the ritual law for Nazirites. At the conclusion of their time of separation as Nazirites, they must each go to the entrance of the Tabernacle 14 and offer their sacrifices to the Lord: a one-year-old male lamb without defect for a burnt offering, a one-year-old female lamb without defect for a sin offering, a ram without defect for a peace offering, 15 a basket of bread made without yeast—cakes of choice flour mixed with olive oil and wafers spread with olive oil—along with their prescribed grain offerings and liquid offerings. 16 The priest will present these offerings before the Lord: first the sin offering and the burnt offering; 17 then the ram for a peace offering, along with the basket of bread made without yeast. The priest must also present the prescribed grain offering and liquid offering to the Lord.

18 “Then the Nazirites will shave their heads at the entrance of the Tabernacle. They will take the hair that had been dedicated and place it on the fire beneath the peace-offering sacrifice. 19 After the Nazirite’s head has been shaved, the priest will take for each of them the boiled shoulder of the ram, and he will take from the basket a cake and a wafer made without yeast. He will put them all into the Nazirite’s hands. 20 Then the priest will lift them up as a special offering before the Lord. These are holy portions for the priest, along with the breast of the special offering and the thigh of the sacred offering that are lifted up before the Lord. After this ceremony the Nazirites may again drink wine.

21 “This is the ritual law of the Nazirites, who vow to bring these offerings to the Lord. They may also bring additional offerings if they can afford it. And they must be careful to do whatever they vowed when they set themselves apart as Nazirites.”

The Priestly Blessing

22 Then the Lord said to Moses, 23 “Tell Aaron and his sons to bless the people of Israel with this special blessing:

24 ‘May the Lord bless you
and protect you.
25 May the Lord smile on you
and be gracious to you.
26 May the Lord show you his favor
and give you his peace.’

27 Whenever Aaron and his sons bless the people of Israel in my name, I myself will bless them.”

Offerings of Dedication

On the day Moses set up the Tabernacle, he anointed it and set it apart as holy. He also anointed and set apart all its furnishings and the altar with its utensils. Then the leaders of Israel—the tribal leaders who had registered the troops—came and brought their offerings. Together they brought six large wagons and twelve oxen. There was a wagon for every two leaders and an ox for each leader. They presented these to the Lord in front of the Tabernacle.

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Receive their gifts, and use these oxen and wagons for transporting the Tabernacle.[c] Distribute them among the Levites according to the work they have to do.” So Moses took the wagons and oxen and presented them to the Levites. He gave two wagons and four oxen to the Gershonite division for their work, and he gave four wagons and eight oxen to the Merarite division for their work. All their work was done under the leadership of Ithamar son of Aaron the priest. But he gave none of the wagons or oxen to the Kohathite division, since they were required to carry the sacred objects of the Tabernacle on their shoulders.

10 The leaders also presented dedication gifts for the altar at the time it was anointed. They each placed their gifts before the altar. 11 The Lord said to Moses, “Let one leader bring his gift each day for the dedication of the altar.”

Mark 12:38-13:13

38 Jesus also taught: “Beware of these teachers of religious law! For they like to parade around in flowing robes and receive respectful greetings as they walk in the marketplaces. 39 And how they love the seats of honor in the synagogues and the head table at banquets. 40 Yet they shamelessly cheat widows out of their property and then pretend to be pious by making long prayers in public. Because of this, they will be more severely punished.”

The Widow’s Offering

41 Jesus sat down near the collection box in the Temple and watched as the crowds dropped in their money. Many rich people put in large amounts. 42 Then a poor widow came and dropped in two small coins.[a]

43 Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has given more than all the others who are making contributions. 44 For they gave a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she had to live on.”

Jesus Speaks about the Future

13 As Jesus was leaving the Temple that day, one of his disciples said, “Teacher, look at these magnificent buildings! Look at the impressive stones in the walls.”

Jesus replied, “Yes, look at these great buildings. But they will be completely demolished. Not one stone will be left on top of another!”

Later, Jesus sat on the Mount of Olives across the valley from the Temple. Peter, James, John, and Andrew came to him privately and asked him, “Tell us, when will all this happen? What sign will show us that these things are about to be fulfilled?”

Jesus replied, “Don’t let anyone mislead you, for many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah.’[b] They will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and threats of wars, but don’t panic. Yes, these things must take place, but the end won’t follow immediately. Nation will go to war against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in many parts of the world, as well as famines. But this is only the first of the birth pains, with more to come.

“When these things begin to happen, watch out! You will be handed over to the local councils and beaten in the synagogues. You will stand trial before governors and kings because you are my followers. But this will be your opportunity to tell them about me.[c] 10 For the Good News must first be preached to all nations.[d] 11 But when you are arrested and stand trial, don’t worry in advance about what to say. Just say what God tells you at that time, for it is not you who will be speaking, but the Holy Spirit.

12 “A brother will betray his brother to death, a father will betray his own child, and children will rebel against their parents and cause them to be killed. 13 And everyone will hate you because you are my followers.[e] But the one who endures to the end will be saved.

Psalm 49

Psalm 49

For the choir director: A psalm of the descendants of Korah.

Listen to this, all you people!
Pay attention, everyone in the world!
High and low,
rich and poor—listen!
For my words are wise,
and my thoughts are filled with insight.
I listen carefully to many proverbs
and solve riddles with inspiration from a harp.

Why should I fear when trouble comes,
when enemies surround me?
They trust in their wealth
and boast of great riches.
Yet they cannot redeem themselves from death[a]
by paying a ransom to God.
Redemption does not come so easily,
for no one can ever pay enough
to live forever
and never see the grave.

10 Those who are wise must finally die,
just like the foolish and senseless,
leaving all their wealth behind.
11 The grave[b] is their eternal home,
where they will stay forever.
They may name their estates after themselves,
12 but their fame will not last.
They will die, just like animals.
13 This is the fate of fools,
though they are remembered as being wise.[c] Interlude

14 Like sheep, they are led to the grave,[d]
where death will be their shepherd.
In the morning the godly will rule over them.
Their bodies will rot in the grave,
far from their grand estates.
15 But as for me, God will redeem my life.
He will snatch me from the power of the grave. Interlude

16 So don’t be dismayed when the wicked grow rich
and their homes become ever more splendid.
17 For when they die, they take nothing with them.
Their wealth will not follow them into the grave.
18 In this life they consider themselves fortunate
and are applauded for their success.
19 But they will die like all before them
and never again see the light of day.
20 People who boast of their wealth don’t understand;
they will die, just like animals.

  1. 49:7 Some Hebrew manuscripts read no one can redeem the life of another.

27 Fear of the Lord lengthens one’s life,
but the years of the wicked are cut short.

28 The hopes of the godly result in happiness,
but the expectations of the wicked come to nothing.

Numbers 4:1-5:31, Mark 12:18-37, Psalms 48:1-14, Proverbs 10:26

Welcome once again to the Daily Audio Bible. I’m Jill, filling in for Brian who’s usually here but is taking a much needed day of recuperation and rest and restoration and rejuvenation in all of the “re” words that come with doing such a grueling trip like Israel. So, it is good to be here with you today on this 5th day of March, and it is so good that we can be here together as we align our hearts around the living breathing word of God through Scripture. And we are starting today as we always do, in the Old Testament. Numbers chapter 4 and we’re reading through 5 and we’re continuing this week in the New Living Translation.

Prayer:

Jesus, we thank You for Your word, we thank You that it is a double-edged sword, and the truth often times, it can hurt and it often times cuts us, and we find our hearts and our minds offended. We’re usually offended because there’s a great amount of truth and it just takes us off guard. Often times the truth offends the mind to reveal the heart, but we know that You are the way, the truth, and the life and Your word is truth. It is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto my path. So, Father I pray that truth would lead us to a place of repentance and in that repentance would ultimately lead us to a place of change. And Father with You then lead us to a place where change is irrevocable, where we no longer want the things that we formally wanted, we no longer desired the things we formally desired. If truth is truly what we’re after then God would You speak truth to our hearts and our minds, our spirits, our souls. Give us ears to hear and eyes to see and a heart that truly beats for You. We love You Lord and we are truly so lost without You. So, we invite You into every part of our day, for those that are just getting started listening to this podcast as they begin their day and those that are ending their day as they lay their head down to go to sleep tonight. Lord, would You fill our minds, our hearts, our spirits with Your truth. And we thank You for this community, we thank You for every person that longs to know You more, for Eeery person that longs to read through this word in a year God, that You would speak something new, that You would speak in ways You’ve never spoken to them before, that they would hear new things that they have never heard before. Lord, for some people that they would hear Your voice for the very first time. We thank You Lord for a day and an age where the Internet has changed everything. You have found a way for Your word to go forth. We love You, we thank You, we praise You, we worship You. You are good and holy and righteous and just and merciful and kind and loving to all of us. Bless this day, bless this night, bless this new mercy, and bless Brian as he rests and comes back tomorrow. In the name of the Father, the son, and the Holy Spirit.

I was gonna say that you will remain in each other’s lives, but I can’t speak for that. I can only say that if you are intentional about remaining in each other’s lives then you will remain in each other’s eyes. And I would encourage you to remain in each other’s lives. It is such a beautiful thing to see the relationships made More and how they continue to grow and how women come back at the family reunion later in the year and catch up and it is…it’s indescribable. Community Prayer and Praise:

Hey guys, this is joyful James and I’m calling right now to pray for Tim in Tampa. And my heart really went out to you buddy. I could feel you. I’ve actually been there man and I understand. And I felt like God was talking to me recently and He reminded me, He said, your hopelessness about the situation is worse than the situation. And it really got me to thank, well, what if I need to focus my attention not on what I’m not or what I don’t have but on God again. Focus my attention on His promises, His capability, His…and that led me to extreme gratitude and gratitude for everything, even my trials and my tribulations because all of it is for His glory and He loves us so much that we get…when we go to that stuff that brings…you know…it makes us into diamonds, you know, extreme pressure illuminates the…I mean…brings out the diamonds out of coal I think it is…not sure. But I want to pray for you Tim. Lord I just lift up my brother Tim to You right now and I ask that You would open his eyes to see and open his ears to hear the song that Your continually singing over his life, the dance that Your continually dancing over his life and the amount…the amount of mighty love that You have for Tim Lord just as he is right now, where he is at. Lord, I ask that his heart would be receptive to this mighty love and I thank You for all that You’re doing in Tim. To You be the glory. We trust You God. In Your holy name. Amen. Well Tim, I’m praying for you buddy. I love you. Talk to you later.

Good morning Daily Audio Bible family this is Grace in Tampa. I’m calling in…I’ve been praying for you all. I love you all. A woman called in today and her daughter had been going through…or had been abused in her past, she was being admitted to an institution today. I’m praying for you. I can’t even articulate it. I pray in the Spirit for every one of you. A woman called in today for her pastor’s son, Noah, who has been experiencing seizures. I’m the praying for you. A gentleman called in whose son had been hearing voice. I’m praying for you. And a woman called in and there was an issue with her son Daniel. I couldn’t make it all out, but God hears your prayer and I’m standing in agreement with you. I’m calling today because I don’t…I just need prayer. I come to these places in my…you know…in my life with my family where I…over the course of time I start asking…acting out…but people won’t say it to me because I am very outspoken and it sometimes difficult for them to even get me to hear. And we’re back at one of those places and I’m far from the victim in this situation but I don’t want to be a problem anymore and I’ve run out of innovative ways to change myself. So, I just need…if you would pray for me, that God would walk with me as I walk with Him to just change little by little so that I don’t go back to how I had been. I love you all and I thank you already for your prayers, it’s so important. Bye.

Hi Daily Audio Bible family, my name is Reina I live in California. I am a three-year listener __ before, but you all are my family, so I trust you that you will lift me up in prayer and my children, Victor, Sophia, and Vincent. We are just a family that’s been destroyed by Satan. My children are 24, 21, and 20 years old. So, they are older now. I suffer from fibromyalgia, which they don’t understand and I’m struggling with this autoimmune disease and I just pray that God would put this into remission for a little while longer. It’s a struggle to go to work. I love my job. I draw blood. I’m a phlebotomist, but I might lose my job, I’m not sure. I have a fiancé that…we’re hoping to get married in September, but he’s a loving man of God. So, anyways I often pray for all of you and I listen more than I call in and I’m always praying for all of you. And please just lift me up in prayer, my children to come back to Jesus. And I love the Lord with all my heart, but my children are just so far off and I’m struggling with this autoimmune disease that is taking my life away and…

I immerse myself within myself and find myself in You
the Father and creator of everything the only one always faithful and true
You created the sun the earth the sea and mapped out every strand of DNA
from the largest of the dinosaurs to the smallest little flea
I can’t even fathom the depths of Your awesome creative power
from the diversities You have created among men
to the intricacies contained in the detail of a flower
You tilted the earths access at exactly 23 ½°
gravity reproduction the cycles of rain tides and seas
constellations galaxies dark matter black holes
quarks ions nano-proteins and the essence of all men’s souls
I too am fearfully and wonderfully made just like David said
You even took the time to number and count every single hair that is on my head
and what is man that You are mindful of him
here for a few days eyes growing dim
stubborn disobedient always wanting to have things his own way
refusing to acknowledge You day after day
but like You said in Your word eventually every tongue will have to confess
that it is only by Your great grace and mercy that we all are also abundantly blessed
help me today Father and every other day too
to always see and appreciate the many wonderful things You continuously do

blindtony1016@gmail.com. Like to give a shout out to Asia. Hope all is well with you and the entire family and also like to give a shout out to Slave of Jesus. Thank you, brother. The Daily Audio Bible Reading for Tuesday March 5, 2019 (NIV)

Numbers 4-5

Duties of the Kohathite Clan

Then the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Record the names of the members of the clans and families of the Kohathite division of the tribe of Levi. List all the men between the ages of thirty and fifty who are eligible to serve in the Tabernacle.[a]

“The duties of the Kohathites at the Tabernacle will relate to the most sacred objects. When the camp moves, Aaron and his sons must enter the Tabernacle first to take down the inner curtain and cover the Ark of the Covenant[b] with it. Then they must cover the inner curtain with fine goatskin leather and spread over that a single piece of blue cloth. Finally, they must put the carrying poles of the Ark in place.

“Next they must spread a blue cloth over the table where the Bread of the Presence is displayed, and on the cloth they will place the bowls, ladles, jars, pitchers, and the special bread. They must spread a scarlet cloth over all of this, and finally a covering of fine goatskin leather on top of the scarlet cloth. Then they must insert the carrying poles into the table.

“Next they must cover the lampstand with a blue cloth, along with its lamps, lamp snuffers, trays, and special jars of olive oil. 10 Then they must cover the lampstand and its accessories with fine goatskin leather and place the bundle on a carrying frame.

11 “Next they must spread a blue cloth over the gold incense altar and cover this cloth with fine goatskin leather. Then they must attach the carrying poles to the altar. 12 They must take all the remaining furnishings of the sanctuary and wrap them in a blue cloth, cover them with fine goatskin leather, and place them on the carrying frame.

13 “They must remove the ashes from the altar for sacrifices and cover the altar with a purple cloth. 14 All the altar utensils—the firepans, meat forks, shovels, basins, and all the containers—must be placed on the cloth, and a covering of fine goatskin leather must be spread over them. Finally, they must put the carrying poles in place. 15 The camp will be ready to move when Aaron and his sons have finished covering the sanctuary and all the sacred articles. The Kohathites will come and carry these things to the next destination. But they must not touch the sacred objects, or they will die. So these are the things from the Tabernacle that the Kohathites must carry.

16 “Eleazar son of Aaron the priest will be responsible for the oil of the lampstand, the fragrant incense, the daily grain offering, and the anointing oil. In fact, Eleazar will be responsible for the entire Tabernacle and everything in it, including the sanctuary and its furnishings.”

17 Then the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, 18 “Do not let the Kohathite clans be destroyed from among the Levites! 19 This is what you must do so they will live and not die when they approach the most sacred objects. Aaron and his sons must always go in with them and assign a specific duty or load to each person. 20 The Kohathites must never enter the sanctuary to look at the sacred objects for even a moment, or they will die.”

Duties of the Gershonite Clan

21 And the Lord said to Moses, 22 “Record the names of the members of the clans and families of the Gershonite division of the tribe of Levi. 23 List all the men between the ages of thirty and fifty who are eligible to serve in the Tabernacle.

24 “These Gershonite clans will be responsible for general service and carrying loads. 25 They must carry the curtains of the Tabernacle, the Tabernacle itself with its coverings, the outer covering of fine goatskin leather, and the curtain for the Tabernacle entrance. 26 They are also to carry the curtains for the courtyard walls that surround the Tabernacle and altar, the curtain across the courtyard entrance, the ropes, and all the equipment related to their use. The Gershonites are responsible for all these items. 27 Aaron and his sons will direct the Gershonites regarding all their duties, whether it involves moving the equipment or doing other work. They must assign the Gershonites responsibility for the loads they are to carry. 28 So these are the duties assigned to the Gershonite clans at the Tabernacle. They will be directly responsible to Ithamar son of Aaron the priest.

Duties of the Merarite Clan

29 “Now record the names of the members of the clans and families of the Merarite division of the tribe of Levi. 30 List all the men between the ages of thirty and fifty who are eligible to serve in the Tabernacle.

31 “Their only duty at the Tabernacle will be to carry loads. They will carry the frames of the Tabernacle, the crossbars, the posts, and the bases; 32 also the posts for the courtyard walls with their bases, pegs, and ropes; and all the accessories and everything else related to their use. Assign the various loads to each man by name. 33 So these are the duties of the Merarite clans at the Tabernacle. They are directly responsible to Ithamar son of Aaron the priest.”

Summary of the Registration

34 So Moses, Aaron, and the other leaders of the community listed the members of the Kohathite division by their clans and families. 35 The list included all the men between thirty and fifty years of age who were eligible for service in the Tabernacle, 36 and the total number came to 2,750. 37 So this was the total of all those from the Kohathite clans who were eligible to serve at the Tabernacle. Moses and Aaron listed them, just as the Lord had commanded through Moses.

38 The Gershonite division was also listed by its clans and families. 39 The list included all the men between thirty and fifty years of age who were eligible for service in the Tabernacle, 40 and the total number came to 2,630. 41 So this was the total of all those from the Gershonite clans who were eligible to serve at the Tabernacle. Moses and Aaron listed them, just as the Lord had commanded.

42 The Merarite division was also listed by its clans and families. 43 The list included all the men between thirty and fifty years of age who were eligible for service in the Tabernacle, 44 and the total number came to 3,200. 45 So this was the total of all those from the Merarite clans who were eligible for service. Moses and Aaron listed them, just as the Lord had commanded through Moses.

46 So Moses, Aaron, and the leaders of Israel listed all the Levites by their clans and families. 47 All the men between thirty and fifty years of age who were eligible for service in the Tabernacle and for its transportation 48 numbered 8,580. 49 When their names were recorded, as the Lord had commanded through Moses, each man was assigned his task and told what to carry.

And so the registration was completed, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.

Purity in Israel’s Camp

The Lord gave these instructions to Moses: “Command the people of Israel to remove from the camp anyone who has a skin disease[c] or a discharge, or who has become ceremonially unclean by touching a dead person. This command applies to men and women alike. Remove them so they will not defile the camp in which I live among them.” So the Israelites did as the Lord had commanded Moses and removed such people from the camp.

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Give the following instructions to the people of Israel: If any of the people—men or women—betray the Lord by doing wrong to another person, they are guilty. They must confess their sin and make full restitution for what they have done, adding an additional 20 percent and returning it to the person who was wronged. But if the person who was wronged is dead, and there are no near relatives to whom restitution can be made, the payment belongs to the Lord and must be given to the priest. Those who are guilty must also bring a ram as a sacrifice, and they will be purified and made right with the Lord.[d] All the sacred offerings that the Israelites bring to a priest will belong to him. 10 Each priest may keep all the sacred donations that he receives.”

Protecting Marital Faithfulness

11 And the Lord said to Moses, 12 “Give the following instructions to the people of Israel.

“Suppose a man’s wife goes astray, and she is unfaithful to her husband 13 and has sex with another man, but neither her husband nor anyone else knows about it. She has defiled herself, even though there was no witness and she was not caught in the act. 14 If her husband becomes jealous and is suspicious of his wife and needs to know whether or not she has defiled herself, 15 the husband must bring his wife to the priest. He must also bring an offering of two quarts[e] of barley flour to be presented on her behalf. Do not mix it with olive oil or frankincense, for it is a jealousy offering—an offering to prove whether or not she is guilty.

16 “The priest will then present her to stand trial before the Lord. 17 He must take some holy water in a clay jar and pour into it dust he has taken from the Tabernacle floor. 18 When the priest has presented the woman before the Lord, he must unbind her hair and place in her hands the offering of proof—the jealousy offering to determine whether her husband’s suspicions are justified. The priest will stand before her, holding the jar of bitter water that brings a curse to those who are guilty. 19 The priest will then put the woman under oath and say to her, ‘If no other man has had sex with you, and you have not gone astray and defiled yourself while under your husband’s authority, may you be immune from the effects of this bitter water that brings on the curse. 20 But if you have gone astray by being unfaithful to your husband, and have defiled yourself by having sex with another man—’

21 “At this point the priest must put the woman under oath by saying, ‘May the people know that the Lord’s curse is upon you when he makes you infertile, causing your womb to shrivel[f] and your abdomen to swell. 22 Now may this water that brings the curse enter your body and cause your abdomen to swell and your womb to shrivel.[g]’ And the woman will be required to say, ‘Yes, let it be so.’ 23 And the priest will write these curses on a piece of leather and wash them off into the bitter water. 24 He will make the woman drink the bitter water that brings on the curse. When the water enters her body, it will cause bitter suffering if she is guilty.

25 “The priest will take the jealousy offering from the woman’s hand, lift it up before the Lord, and carry it to the altar. 26 He will take a handful of the flour as a token portion and burn it on the altar, and he will require the woman to drink the water. 27 If she has defiled herself by being unfaithful to her husband, the water that brings on the curse will cause bitter suffering. Her abdomen will swell and her womb will shrink,[h] and her name will become a curse among her people. 28 But if she has not defiled herself and is pure, then she will be unharmed and will still be able to have children.

29 “This is the ritual law for dealing with suspicion. If a woman goes astray and defiles herself while under her husband’s authority, 30 or if a man becomes jealous and is suspicious that his wife has been unfaithful, the husband must present his wife before the Lord, and the priest will apply this entire ritual law to her. 31 The husband will be innocent of any guilt in this matter, but his wife will be held accountable for her sin.”

Mark 12:18-37

Discussion about Resurrection

18 Then Jesus was approached by some Sadducees—religious leaders who say there is no resurrection from the dead. They posed this question: 19 “Teacher, Moses gave us a law that if a man dies, leaving a wife without children, his brother should marry the widow and have a child who will carry on the brother’s name.[a] 20 Well, suppose there were seven brothers. The oldest one married and then died without children. 21 So the second brother married the widow, but he also died without children. Then the third brother married her. 22 This continued with all seven of them, and still there were no children. Last of all, the woman also died. 23 So tell us, whose wife will she be in the resurrection? For all seven were married to her.”

24 Jesus replied, “Your mistake is that you don’t know the Scriptures, and you don’t know the power of God. 25 For when the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage. In this respect they will be like the angels in heaven.

26 “But now, as to whether the dead will be raised—haven’t you ever read about this in the writings of Moses, in the story of the burning bush? Long after Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob had died, God said to Moses,[b] ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’[c] 27 So he is the God of the living, not the dead. You have made a serious error.”

The Most Important Commandment

28 One of the teachers of religious law was standing there listening to the debate. He realized that Jesus had answered well, so he asked, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”

29 Jesus replied, “The most important commandment is this: ‘Listen, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only Lord. 30 And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’[d] 31 The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[e] No other commandment is greater than these.”

32 The teacher of religious law replied, “Well said, Teacher. You have spoken the truth by saying that there is only one God and no other. 33 And I know it is important to love him with all my heart and all my understanding and all my strength, and to love my neighbor as myself. This is more important than to offer all of the burnt offerings and sacrifices required in the law.”

34 Realizing how much the man understood, Jesus said to him, “You are not far from the Kingdom of God.” And after that, no one dared to ask him any more questions.

Whose Son Is the Messiah?

35 Later, as Jesus was teaching the people in the Temple, he asked, “Why do the teachers of religious law claim that the Messiah is the son of David? 36 For David himself, speaking under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, said,

‘The Lord said to my Lord,
Sit in the place of honor at my right hand
until I humble your enemies beneath your feet.’[f]

37 Since David himself called the Messiah ‘my Lord,’ how can the Messiah be his son?” The large crowd listened to him with great delight.

Psalm 48

Psalm 48

A song. A psalm of the descendants of Korah.

How great is the Lord,
how deserving of praise,
in the city of our God,
which sits on his holy mountain!
It is high and magnificent;
the whole earth rejoices to see it!
Mount Zion, the holy mountain,[a]
is the city of the great King!
God himself is in Jerusalem’s towers,
revealing himself as its defender.

The kings of the earth joined forces
and advanced against the city.
But when they saw it, they were stunned;
they were terrified and ran away.
They were gripped with terror
and writhed in pain like a woman in labor.
You destroyed them like the mighty ships of Tarshish
shattered by a powerful east wind.

We had heard of the city’s glory,
but now we have seen it ourselves—
the city of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.
It is the city of our God;
he will make it safe forever. Interlude

O God, we meditate on your unfailing love
as we worship in your Temple.
10 As your name deserves, O God,
you will be praised to the ends of the earth.
Your strong right hand is filled with victory.
11 Let the people on Mount Zion rejoice.
Let all the towns of Judah be glad
because of your justice.

12 Go, inspect the city of Jerusalem.[b]
Walk around and count the many towers.
13 Take note of the fortified walls,
and tour all the citadels,
that you may describe them
to future generations.
14 For that is what God is like.
He is our God forever and ever,
and he will guide us until we die.

Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Jill Brian’s wide and the birthday boy is recouping as he should be on his birthday. Happy 14th birthday Brian. He starts counting his years in life now through Daily Audio Bible years. So, babe, happy birthday. Thank you for leading us all so well. So, we’ll do cake and celebratory songs and all that later but for right now we are here to center ourselves around the word of God. It’s what we do every day on the Daily Audio Bible and Brian has done it for 14 years every single day. The Bible has been read fresh every day for 14 years. Well done, my love. Marching forth right now in the Old Testament and we’re reading in the New Living Translation today beginning with Numbers chapter 2.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your word. Thank You for this community, this place where we can center ourselves around the living breathing word of God. We thank You for the journey of Israel and the pilgrimage that we can put our faith to the test and go and see all of the places, where we can put our faith to the test and go and see  and go and see and we can walk where You walked, we can go just look at places and people that are walking where You walked and we can breathe in the air and the land  of the Bible. Thank You for the transformation that took place of every heart of the people that went. Lots to mention today. Okay. The other thing that we want to mention to you is some of you, lots of you, many of you have reached out and said that you would like to bless China and Ben in their marriage in some small way and you’ve asked how to do that. So, we have collectively met as a family and as a team and said what is the best way to do that so that you all feel included and for those of you that want to be a part of it. I mean, we obviously cannot invite the whole world to the wedding, we could if, you know, she was the queen of something or the Princess of something. Well she’s our princess, but she would like a small intimate wedding. And, so, we are going to honor and bless her and that. But if you as a community would like to give to China and Ben in their celebration, you can go to their registry on Amazon. So, you just click on Amazon, go to the link, and you will go then to the link on the right-hand side that says accounts and lists and then underneath that you will click on bridal registry and then when you get to that link there will be a separate box that pops up. It’s not can it be in your search engine for where you normally type in your all clad pans if you like me or whatever it is that you’re searching for. You go down to find a registry, it’s like an orange box with an orange arrow next to it and you simply type in DAB all in caps. And when you type that in it’ll pop up for Spring Hill. That’s the one that you click on and you can get the lovely couple, you know, their spoons or whatever it is that they want, for those of you that have just asked. So, that’s just a special way that you can be a part of loving on China and Ben and maybe feel a part in their special day. So, we thank you for that, for those of you that have asked about it.

Hello DAB brothers and sisters this is Abiding in Him calling to pray for Tim in Tampa. Heavenly Father I just thank You for my brother Tim. He has been a blessing to me, to my wife and to my children and to my family over the years with his prayers and encouragements Lord. I count it a privilege to be able to come before the throne on his behalf heavenly Father and ask for Your blessings to be over him. He is a husband, he is a Father heavenly Father and Lord he has responsibilities on his shoulders Lord and people are sensing that he is off and he’s lacking, and he needs renewal and a refreshing Lord. And as a man I can understand walking into those places heavenly Father and needing a touch from You to be refocused and to move forward Lord. And I just thank You Lord that his life is not done but there’s much left for You to accomplish through him and I pray Your blessing to be over him Lord. Touch him in a place where he needs it Lord. Open his eyes heavenly Father. And Lord blast through him and blow away the things that are no longer necessary heavenly Father. Pry his hands off of those things that aren’t taking him where he wants to go Lord and put him __ Lord in the direction that You want him to head. Hi, Daily Audio Bible family, Andrea Delane hear from Kentucky. I want to give you a word of encouragement today and it’s from first John 1:9 and it says, “if we confess our sins he is trustworthy and righteous to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” And I don’t know if you’ve ever been in a place like I have been, struggling with some sins or struggling with unbelief and doubt, but the Lord’s been encouraging me that the sooner I come blame, the sooner I confess my sins the great high priest, Yeshua, the sooner I can walk in that victory. And I want to encourage you, like, maybe life is really hard right now and maybe there’s some things that you’ve just been holding back and your lie, what’s the use. I want to encourage you that in Proverbs it says something like this, that you may fall seven times but the righteous get up eight. And I want to encourage you in endurance and in perseverance today and that if there’s something you’re struggling with and it’s gotten so bad, I want you to keep getting’ back up, keep getting’ up and confessing your sins. Don’t just beg and beg. There’s a place I was like begging God’s forgiveness. It’s already available to you. All you have to do, according to Scripture, is confess your sins, come clean, take personal responsibility, just be transparent and open and vulnerable with Yeshua. He can handle it, no matter what you’ve done, where you’ve been, what you’re going through. Don’t receive the guilt, the lies of the enemy. Receive the forgiveness and humble yourself. I’ve been experiencing this…it’s such a beautiful thing. When I fell in sin the enemy wants to hide you, he wanted to hide me in shame, say whatever and keep you down even more. I’m telling you, the best thing that you can do to fight the enemy is get up and receive the forgiveness of Christ because He is victorious and that’s what He came to die for. He didn’t come to die for the fervent, He came to die for those who fell in sin and we are all sinners and we have all…some of us have been saved by grace…we are now saints and we have that right as heirs to come before His throne. So, I just want to encourage you today, whether you have failed…

Hi, I’ve just been listening for a couple weeks now. This podcast is been a huge, huge blessing. I’m very busy and I’ve been craving the word, and this really just gives me the opportunity to just dive right in at any time. So, thank you for maintaining this and thank you all for praying for each other. And my request is that I will be able to find a way to keep my little boy, he’s six months old, at home. I’ve prayed for him for a long time and after many years he’s finally here and I want more than anything to be with him and take care of him, but I may not be financially able to do that. So, I’m praying for an opportunity for either me to be home with him more, whatever that looks like, or for his father to be able to take care of him. I just want him to be home and cared for. I don’t want to put in daycare. And I’m remembering the Scripture that a wise woman builds up her house, but folly tears it down. So, help me to build my house, take care of my family, let go of my expectations and my desires and help me to do what’s best for my family to keep us all sound…intact. So, thank you all. I am praying for you all and every day I listen, and I do pray along with you guys in your situations. So, bless you all. Love you. Bye.

Hi, my name is Susie from Colorado and I’m calling because I really, really need you guys to pray for me and my husband and our kids. We are in desperate need of prayer. We have 120 children, 65 who are handicapped or severely ill, labeled terminally ill, actually. We have a children’s home in Haiti that we take abandoned children who’ve been left at the government hospital and we raise them. And a lot of them don’t live very long, but it’s just really taken a toll on our hearts and emotionally. We’ve been doing this for 25 years. We are exhausted physically, emotionally, financially, although God has really blessed us with great work and, you know, I have no complaints about that, but we just need help. We have just lost one of our sons, his name was Stevie, he was 12, heart failure due to severe seizures all of his life. And I just want to lift up a few my kids who have been told who have a very short life expectancy and we may be sending on to God this year: Job, Junior, Watson, Val, Lucian, Yaron, Pedro, Lepardis, Romagna. Would you please pray for all of our kids? That’s just part of the ones that are terminally ill, but those are, you know, we’ve been told that they probably won’t survive the year and they’ve been with us for so many years, they’re part of our family. We love them, and it hurts so deeply. So, pray for us please…

Numbers 2-3

Organization for Israel’s Camp

Then the Lord gave these instructions to Moses and Aaron: “When the Israelites set up camp, each tribe will be assigned its own area. The tribal divisions will camp beneath their family banners on all four sides of the Tabernacle,[a] but at some distance from it.

3-4 “The divisions of Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun are to camp toward the sunrise on the east side of the Tabernacle, beneath their family banners. These are the names of the tribes, their leaders, and the numbers of their registered troops:

TribeLeaderNumber
JudahNahshon son of Amminadab74,600
5-6 IssacharNethanel son of Zuar54,400
7-8 ZebulunEliab son of Helon57,400

So the total of all the troops on Judah’s side of the camp is 186,400. These three tribes are to lead the way whenever the Israelites travel to a new campsite.

10-11 “The divisions of Reuben, Simeon, and Gad are to camp on the south side of the Tabernacle, beneath their family banners. These are the names of the tribes, their leaders, and the numbers of their registered troops:

TribeLeaderNumber
ReubenElizur son of Shedeur46,500
12-13 SimeonShelumiel son of Zurishaddai59,300
14-15 GadEliasaph son of Deuel[b]45,650

16 So the total of all the troops on Reuben’s side of the camp is 151,450. These three tribes will be second in line whenever the Israelites travel.

17 “Then the Tabernacle, carried by the Levites, will set out from the middle of the camp. All the tribes are to travel in the same order that they camp, each in position under the appropriate family banner.

18-19 “The divisions of Ephraim, Manasseh, and Benjamin are to camp on the west side of the Tabernacle, beneath their family banners. These are the names of the tribes, their leaders, and the numbers of their registered troops:

TribeLeaderNumber
EphraimElishama son of Ammihud40,500
20-21 ManassehGamaliel son of Pedahzur32,200
22-23 BenjaminAbidan son of Gideoni35,400

24 So the total of all the troops on Ephraim’s side of the camp is 108,100. These three tribes will be third in line whenever the Israelites travel.

25-26 “The divisions of Dan, Asher, and Naphtali are to camp on the north side of the Tabernacle, beneath their family banners. These are the names of the tribes, their leaders, and the numbers of their registered troops:

TribeLeaderNumber
DanAhiezer son of Ammishaddai62,700
27-28 AsherPagiel son of Ocran41,500
29-30 NaphtaliAhira son of Enan53,400

31 So the total of all the troops on Dan’s side of the camp is 157,600. These three tribes will be last, marching under their banners whenever the Israelites travel.”

32 In summary, the troops of Israel listed by their families totaled 603,550. 33 But as the Lord had commanded, the Levites were not included in this registration. 34 So the people of Israel did everything as the Lord had commanded Moses. Each clan and family set up camp and marched under their banners exactly as the Lord had instructed them.

Levites Appointed for Service

This is the family line of Aaron and Moses as it was recorded when the Lord spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai: The names of Aaron’s sons were Nadab (the oldest), Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. These sons of Aaron were anointed and ordained to minister as priests. But Nadab and Abihu died in the Lord’s presence in the wilderness of Sinai when they burned before the Lord the wrong kind of fire, different than he had commanded. Since they had no sons, this left only Eleazar and Ithamar to serve as priests with their father, Aaron.

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Call forward the tribe of Levi, and present them to Aaron the priest to serve as his assistants. They will serve Aaron and the whole community, performing their sacred duties in and around the Tabernacle.[c] They will also maintain all the furnishings of the sacred tent,[d] serving in the Tabernacle on behalf of all the Israelites. Assign the Levites to Aaron and his sons. They have been given from among all the people of Israel to serve as their assistants. 10 Appoint Aaron and his sons to carry out the duties of the priesthood. But any unauthorized person who goes too near the sanctuary must be put to death.”

11 And the Lord said to Moses, 12 “Look, I have chosen the Levites from among the Israelites to serve as substitutes for all the firstborn sons of the people of Israel. The Levites belong to me, 13 for all the firstborn males are mine. On the day I struck down all the firstborn sons of the Egyptians, I set apart for myself all the firstborn in Israel, both of people and of animals. They are mine; I am the Lord.”

Registration of the Levites

14 The Lord spoke again to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai. He said, 15 “Record the names of the members of the tribe of Levi by their families and clans. List every male who is one month old or older.” 16 So Moses listed them, just as the Lord had commanded.

17 Levi had three sons, whose names were Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

18 The clans descended from Gershon were named after two of his descendants, Libni and Shimei.

19 The clans descended from Kohath were named after four of his descendants, Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.

20 The clans descended from Merari were named after two of his descendants, Mahli and Mushi.

These were the Levite clans, listed according to their family groups.

21 The descendants of Gershon were composed of the clans descended from Libni and Shimei. 22 There were 7,500 males one month old or older among these Gershonite clans. 23 They were assigned the area to the west of the Tabernacle for their camp. 24 The leader of the Gershonite clans was Eliasaph son of Lael. 25 These two clans were responsible to care for the Tabernacle, including the sacred tent with its layers of coverings, the curtain at its entrance, 26 the curtains of the courtyard that surrounded the Tabernacle and altar, the curtain at the courtyard entrance, the ropes, and all the equipment related to their use.

27 The descendants of Kohath were composed of the clans descended from Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel. 28 There were 8,600[e] males one month old or older among these Kohathite clans. They were responsible for the care of the sanctuary, 29 and they were assigned the area south of the Tabernacle for their camp. 30 The leader of the Kohathite clans was Elizaphan son of Uzziel. 31 These four clans were responsible for the care of the Ark, the table, the lampstand, the altars, the various articles used in the sanctuary, the inner curtain, and all the equipment related to their use. 32 Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, was the chief administrator over all the Levites, with special responsibility for the oversight of the sanctuary.

33 The descendants of Merari were composed of the clans descended from Mahli and Mushi. 34 There were 6,200 males one month old or older among these Merarite clans. 35 They were assigned the area north of the Tabernacle for their camp. The leader of the Merarite clans was Zuriel son of Abihail. 36 These two clans were responsible for the care of the frames supporting the Tabernacle, the crossbars, the pillars, the bases, and all the equipment related to their use. 37 They were also responsible for the posts of the courtyard and all their bases, pegs, and ropes.

38 The area in front of the Tabernacle, in the east toward the sunrise,[f] was reserved for the tents of Moses and of Aaron and his sons, who had the final responsibility for the sanctuary on behalf of the people of Israel. Anyone other than a priest or Levite who went too near the sanctuary was to be put to death.

39 When Moses and Aaron counted the Levite clans at the Lord’s command, the total number was 22,000 males one month old or older.

Redeeming the Firstborn Sons

40 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Now count all the firstborn sons in Israel who are one month old or older, and make a list of their names. 41 The Levites must be reserved for me as substitutes for the firstborn sons of Israel; I am the Lord. And the Levites’ livestock must be reserved for me as substitutes for the firstborn livestock of the whole nation of Israel.”

42 So Moses counted the firstborn sons of the people of Israel, just as the Lord had commanded. 43 The number of firstborn sons who were one month old or older was 22,273.

44 Then the Lord said to Moses, 45 “Take the Levites as substitutes for the firstborn sons of the people of Israel. And take the livestock of the Levites as substitutes for the firstborn livestock of the people of Israel. The Levites belong to me; I am the Lord. 46 There are 273 more firstborn sons of Israel than there are Levites. To redeem these extra firstborn sons, 47 collect five pieces of silver[g] for each of them (each piece weighing the same as the sanctuary shekel, which equals twenty gerahs). 48 Give the silver to Aaron and his sons as the redemption price for the extra firstborn sons.”

49 So Moses collected the silver for redeeming the firstborn sons of Israel who exceeded the number of Levites. 50 He collected 1,365 pieces of silver[h] on behalf of these firstborn sons of Israel (each piece weighing the same as the sanctuary shekel). 51 And Moses gave the silver for the redemption to Aaron and his sons, just as the Lord had commanded.

Mark 11:27-12:17

The Authority of Jesus Challenged

27 Again they entered Jerusalem. As Jesus was walking through the Temple area, the leading priests, the teachers of religious law, and the elders came up to him. 28 They demanded, “By what authority are you doing all these things? Who gave you the right to do them?”

29 “I’ll tell you by what authority I do these things if you answer one question,” Jesus replied. 30 “Did John’s authority to baptize come from heaven, or was it merely human? Answer me!”

31 They talked it over among themselves. “If we say it was from heaven, he will ask why we didn’t believe John. 32 But do we dare say it was merely human?” For they were afraid of what the people would do, because everyone believed that John was a prophet. 33 So they finally replied, “We don’t know.”

And Jesus responded, “Then I won’t tell you by what authority I do these things.”

Parable of the Evil Farmers

12 Then Jesus began teaching them with stories: “A man planted a vineyard. He built a wall around it, dug a pit for pressing out the grape juice, and built a lookout tower. Then he leased the vineyard to tenant farmers and moved to another country. At the time of the grape harvest, he sent one of his servants to collect his share of the crop. But the farmers grabbed the servant, beat him up, and sent him back empty-handed. The owner then sent another servant, but they insulted him and beat him over the head. The next servant he sent was killed. Others he sent were either beaten or killed, until there was only one left—his son whom he loved dearly. The owner finally sent him, thinking, ‘Surely they will respect my son.’

“But the tenant farmers said to one another, ‘Here comes the heir to this estate. Let’s kill him and get the estate for ourselves!’ So they grabbed him and murdered him and threw his body out of the vineyard.

“What do you suppose the owner of the vineyard will do?” Jesus asked. “I’ll tell you—he will come and kill those farmers and lease the vineyard to others. 10 Didn’t you ever read this in the Scriptures?

‘The stone that the builders rejected
has now become the cornerstone.
11 This is the Lord’s doing,
and it is wonderful to see.’[a]

12 The religious leaders[b] wanted to arrest Jesus because they realized he was telling the story against them—they were the wicked farmers. But they were afraid of the crowd, so they left him and went away.

Taxes for Caesar

13 Later the leaders sent some Pharisees and supporters of Herod to trap Jesus into saying something for which he could be arrested. 14 “Teacher,” they said, “we know how honest you are. You are impartial and don’t play favorites. You teach the way of God truthfully. Now tell us—is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not? 15 Should we pay them, or shouldn’t we?”

Jesus saw through their hypocrisy and said, “Why are you trying to trap me? Show me a Roman coin,[c] and I’ll tell you.” 16 When they handed it to him, he asked, “Whose picture and title are stamped on it?”

“Caesar’s,” they replied.

17 “Well, then,” Jesus said, “give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give to God what belongs to God.”

His reply completely amazed them.

Psalm 47

Psalm 47

For the choir director: A psalm of the descendants of Korah.

Come, everyone! Clap your hands!
Shout to God with joyful praise!
For the Lord Most High is awesome.
He is the great King of all the earth.
He subdues the nations before us,
putting our enemies beneath our feet.
He chose the Promised Land as our inheritance,
the proud possession of Jacob’s descendants, whom he loves. Interlude

God has ascended with a mighty shout.
The Lord has ascended with trumpets blaring.
Sing praises to God, sing praises;
sing praises to our King, sing praises!
For God is the King over all the earth.
Praise him with a psalm.[a]
God reigns above the nations,
sitting on his holy throne.
The rulers of the world have gathered together
with the people of the God of Abraham.
For all the kings of the earth belong to God.
He is highly honored everywhere.

Proverbs 10:24-25

24 The fears of the wicked will be fulfilled;
the hopes of the godly will be granted.

25 When the storms of life come, the wicked are whirled away,
but the godly have a lasting foundation.

Leviticus 27:14- Numbers 1:54, Mark 11:1-26, Psalms 46:1-11, Proverbs 10:23

Today is the 3rd day of March. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian. It is a pleasure and an honor to be here with you and this is the last broadcast from the land of the Bible for this year from the city of Jerusalem. We have completed our tour and depending on where you are in the world, for example, if you are back in the United States where we live, we’ve probably already landed and probably we’re on a long layover somewhere waiting for our connection back to Nashville unless you listen to this that night, in which case we might be sleeping in our own beds, but nevertheless because of the travel I am here with you now from Jerusalem and we got a brand-new shiny, sparkly week out in front of us. I don’t know what your plans are. I’ve got one main plan and that is to work through the jetlagged and just invite God to plant whatever he wants to plant that has come from this trip in my heart. And whether you have come along physically here to this land or whether you have come along virtually, I pray the same for you. So, we got a new week, which means we will read from a different translation, this week the New Living Translation and we’ll continue to pick up where we left off yesterday, which is going to lead us, actually to the conclusion of the book of Leviticus and then we will begin the book of Numbers. So, we’ll talk about that when we get there, but first let’s finish the book of Leviticus.

Introduction to the book of Numbers:

That concludes the book of Leviticus and as we turn the page, we find that the next book, the fourth book of the Bible is called numbers. And we may notice as we get into the book of Numbers what seems like redundant review and some passages can seem tedious but it’s not. It’s actually really important because we’re switching now from the first generation that has come out of Egypt. Like we’ve been traveling along with these people who have been freed from slavery but now we’re moving into the second generation of people. So, a lot has happened under Moses leadership. They’ve seen God show up miraculously in their midst and His mighty power as they received the law, but now they have to actually live it and God is giving them the order to move out. It’s time for them to move into the Promise Land. And in the book of numbers we’ll see spies sent into the land and we’ll see an entire generation disqualify themselves from the promise and we’ll find many, many parallels in the story that can land just a little too close to home sometimes. So, we’ve noticed the theme of God’s holiness emerging as He’s giving laws and customs and rituals and celebrations and weaving together a fabric that will become a society. And the fact that He requires His people to be holy like He is holy threads its way throughout numbers as it does through the entire Torah and, in contrast, we’ll see the harsh but true reality that rebellion reaps judgments. So, the territory that we’re about to go into, the first nine chapters are review and structure because God’s preparing His people to move into the Promise Land. So, we’ll see like a census being taken, additional laws being given, and review of laws. We’ll see purification and celebrations happening and then we’ll move into the story where the spies are sent across the Jordan into the Promise Land where they can spy it out and will face the repercussions of what turned out to be an ill-fated mission and then see the curse of an entire generation destined to die in the wilderness when they were at the gateway to the promise. And if that doesn’t set up some parallels for us to think about like I don’t know what will. So, once the old generations gone we’ll see a new one with the new leader beginning to rise and warfare beginning, and new laws being established and a foreshadowing of what the culture is gonna look like when they actually get into the Promise Land. And, of course, with all of the counting going on, the census being taken, we’ll see a lot of counting and hence the book of Numbers, chapter 1.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word and for the last time for this time, we thank You for allowing us to experience the land where so many of the people and stories that we encounter in the Bible, where they happened. Thank You for letting us walk in Your footsteps along the shores of the Sea of Galilee. Thank You for meeting us in Bethsaida as we walked around in a serene beautiful countryside at sunset. Thank You for our experiences in the wilderness and allowing that to come alive in our lives and hearts and apply it to our own stories. Thank You for allowing us to go north and stand on the Syrian border and pray for our brothers and sisters all over the world who are persecuted and suffering or marginalized and disenfranchised. Thank You for letting us be along the Mediterranean coast. Thank You for bringing us to the holy city of Jerusalem where we stood in places like the upper room and considered the coming of Your Holy Spirit or the southern steps and the birth of the church or Jesus at Your tomb that has been empty a very, very long time. We thank You for all that You have done, all that You are doing, all that You will do because of this pilgrimage, because of this long journey, this difficult journey to somewhere holy. Make us holy Lord. Come Holy Spirit we pray. And Father, we pray over all of the travel that has been and continues to take place as we migrate back into our own hometowns and to our own homes and communities. And Father, we ask that this not be just a good memory that becomes distant and faint, but that the transformation that we felt happening inside us all throughout this journey that that would be real, that that would stick. Come Holy Spirit into the days ahead as we move through the jetlag, those of us who have been on the trip and as we move forward in Your word this week. We love You and it is overwhelming that You love us back the way that You do. And, so, we receive Your love and we ask that You lead us forward in all the thoughts, words and deeds of this day and this week. Come Jesus we pray. In Your precious name we ask. Amen.

Hi this is Sonja calling from Tampa. I’m listening to the February 27th podcast and I heard Tim indicate that he had internal struggle. Remember to Tim that the enemy comes in like a thief to see who he can devour. The enemy is very cunning, and he will sneak up on you and you don’t even know he’s there, but today I come against all of the attacks of the enemy. I tread upon the serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy in the name of Jesus. Tim, begin to declare that you are a mighty man of God. Take your shield of faith and quench every fiery dart in the name of Jesus. Call upon the angel saints to camp all around you. I declare that the Holy Spirit will help you in every year of your life and they will shield your family from all harm. In the name of Jesus, I command that you be equipped with the whole armor of God, the helmet of salvation, the breastplate of righteousness, the shield of faith, and the sword of the Spirit. Tim, declare that you are a mighty man of God and call upon God to break every yoke that would hold you back from being the high priest in your home. God bless you and God bless your family.

Hi, this Jackie calling from Colorado. I called yesterday, and I just had to call again. I was listening to the 12th of February. I’m a couple of weeks behind. There was a woman who came on who was just…just reiterating what my heart was saying, that Brian’s message was amazing on the 12th. The Holy Spirit just spoke to my heart and its…what I have learned in this last two months by listening to the Daily Audio Bible verses what I learned in the last four years is multiplied. And I just encourage anyone who starts listening, try to listen every day. It’s…it is so…I don’t know…I can’t put it into words. God speaks to my heart stronger than He ever has and He is doing a work in my heart that I have just now recognized and so much of it comes through listening to the Daily Audio Bible. And I thank you Brian for your teaching and just through the Holy Spirit. It’s wonderful. And I also wanted to pray for Jill in Washington who reached out to us about her husband and all the situations with the problems in her family due to her husband’s issues. And Jill, just know there’s many, many women that have gone through this and I can understand your brokenness…

The Daily Audio Bible Reading for Sunday March 3, 2019 (NIV)

Leviticus 27:14 - Numbers 1:54

14 “If someone dedicates a house to the Lord, the priest will come to assess its value. The priest’s assessment will be final, whether high or low. 15 If the person who dedicated the house wants to buy it back, he must pay the value set by the priest, plus 20 percent. Then the house will again be his.

16 “If someone dedicates to the Lord a piece of his family property, its value will be assessed according to the amount of seed required to plant it—fifty shekels of silver for a field planted with five bushels of barley seed.[a] 17 If the field is dedicated to the Lord in the Year of Jubilee, then the entire assessment will apply. 18 But if the field is dedicated after the Year of Jubilee, the priest will assess the land’s value in proportion to the number of years left until the next Year of Jubilee. Its assessed value is reduced each year. 19 If the person who dedicated the field wants to buy it back, he must pay the value set by the priest, plus 20 percent. Then the field will again be legally his. 20 But if he does not want to buy it back, and it is sold to someone else, the field can no longer be bought back. 21 When the field is released in the Year of Jubilee, it will be holy, a field specially set apart[b] for the Lord. It will become the property of the priests.

22 “If someone dedicates to the Lord a field he has purchased but which is not part of his family property, 23 the priest will assess its value based on the number of years left until the next Year of Jubilee. On that day he must give the assessed value of the land as a sacred donation to the Lord. 24 In the Year of Jubilee the field must be returned to the person from whom he purchased it, the one who inherited it as family property. 25 (All the payments must be measured by the weight of the sanctuary shekel,[c] which equals twenty gerahs.)

26 “You may not dedicate a firstborn animal to the Lord, for the firstborn of your cattle, sheep, and goats already belong to him. 27 However, you may buy back the firstborn of a ceremonially unclean animal by paying the priest’s assessment of its worth, plus 20 percent. If you do not buy it back, the priest will sell it at its assessed value.

28 “However, anything specially set apart for the Lord—whether a person, an animal, or family property—must never be sold or bought back. Anything devoted in this way has been set apart as holy, and it belongs to the Lord. 29 No person specially set apart for destruction may be bought back. Such a person must be put to death.

30 “One-tenth of the produce of the land, whether grain from the fields or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord and must be set apart to him as holy. 31 If you want to buy back the Lord’s tenth of the grain or fruit, you must pay its value, plus 20 percent. 32 Count off every tenth animal from your herds and flocks and set them apart for the Lord as holy. 33 You may not pick and choose between good and bad animals, and you may not substitute one for another. But if you do exchange one animal for another, then both the original animal and its substitute will be considered holy and cannot be bought back.”

34 These are the commands that the Lord gave through Moses on Mount Sinai for the Israelites.

Registration of Israel’s Troops

A year after Israel’s departure from Egypt, the Lord spoke to Moses in the Tabernacle[d] in the wilderness of Sinai. On the first day of the second month[e] of that year he said, “From the whole community of Israel, record the names of all the warriors by their clans and families. List all the men twenty years old or older who are able to go to war. You and Aaron must register the troops, and you will be assisted by one family leader from each tribe.

“These are the tribes and the names of the leaders who will assist you:

TribeLeader
ReubenElizur son of Shedeur
SimeonShelumiel son of Zurishaddai
JudahNahshon son of Amminadab
IssacharNethanel son of Zuar
ZebulunEliab son of Helon
10 Ephraim son of JosephElishama son of Ammihud
Manasseh son of JosephGamaliel son of Pedahzur
11 BenjaminAbidan son of Gideoni
12 DanAhiezer son of Ammishaddai
13 AsherPagiel son of Ocran
14 GadEliasaph son of Deuel
15 NaphtaliAhira son of Enan

16 These are the chosen leaders of the community, the leaders of their ancestral tribes, the heads of the clans of Israel.”

17 So Moses and Aaron called together these chosen leaders, 18 and they assembled the whole community of Israel on that very day.[f] All the people were registered according to their ancestry by their clans and families. The men of Israel who were twenty years old or older were listed one by one, 19 just as the Lord had commanded Moses. So Moses recorded their names in the wilderness of Sinai.

20-21 This is the number of men twenty years old or older who were able to go to war, as their names were listed in the records of their clans and families[g]:

TribeNumber
Reuben (Jacob’s[h] oldest son)46,500
22-23 Simeon59,300
24-25 Gad45,650
26-27 Judah74,600
28-29 Issachar54,400
30-31 Zebulun57,400
32-33 Ephraim son of Joseph40,500
34-35 Manasseh son of Joseph32,200
36-37 Benjamin35,400
38-39 Dan62,700
40-41 Asher41,500
42-43 Naphtali53,400

44 These were the men registered by Moses and Aaron and the twelve leaders of Israel, all listed according to their ancestral descent. 45 They were registered by families—all the men of Israel who were twenty years old or older and able to go to war. 46 The total number was 603,550.

47 But this total did not include the Levites. 48 For the Lord had said to Moses, 49 “Do not include the tribe of Levi in the registration; do not count them with the rest of the Israelites. 50 Put the Levites in charge of the Tabernacle of the Covenant,[i] along with all its furnishings and equipment. They must carry the Tabernacle and all its furnishings as you travel, and they must take care of it and camp around it. 51 Whenever it is time for the Tabernacle to move, the Levites will take it down. And when it is time to stop, they will set it up again. But any unauthorized person who goes too near the Tabernacle must be put to death. 52 Each tribe of Israel will camp in a designated area with its own family banner. 53 But the Levites will camp around the Tabernacle of the Covenant to protect the community of Israel from the Lord’s anger. The Levites are responsible to stand guard around the Tabernacle.”

54 So the Israelites did everything just as the Lord had commanded Moses.

Mark 11:1-25

Jesus’ Triumphant Entry

11 As Jesus and his disciples approached Jerusalem, they came to the towns of Bethphage and Bethany on the Mount of Olives. Jesus sent two of them on ahead. “Go into that village over there,” he told them. “As soon as you enter it, you will see a young donkey tied there that no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks, ‘What are you doing?’ just say, ‘The Lord needs it and will return it soon.’”

The two disciples left and found the colt standing in the street, tied outside the front door. As they were untying it, some bystanders demanded, “What are you doing, untying that colt?” They said what Jesus had told them to say, and they were permitted to take it. Then they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their garments over it, and he sat on it.

Many in the crowd spread their garments on the road ahead of him, and others spread leafy branches they had cut in the fields. Jesus was in the center of the procession, and the people all around him were shouting,

“Praise God![a]
Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the Lord!
10 Blessings on the coming Kingdom of our ancestor David!
Praise God in highest heaven!”[b]

11 So Jesus came to Jerusalem and went into the Temple. After looking around carefully at everything, he left because it was late in the afternoon. Then he returned to Bethany with the twelve disciples.

Jesus Curses the Fig Tree

12 The next morning as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. 13 He noticed a fig tree in full leaf a little way off, so he went over to see if he could find any figs. But there were only leaves because it was too early in the season for fruit. 14 Then Jesus said to the tree, “May no one ever eat your fruit again!” And the disciples heard him say it.

Jesus Clears the Temple

15 When they arrived back in Jerusalem, Jesus entered the Temple and began to drive out the people buying and selling animals for sacrifices. He knocked over the tables of the money changers and the chairs of those selling doves, 16 and he stopped everyone from using the Temple as a marketplace.[c] 17 He said to them, “The Scriptures declare, ‘My Temple will be called a house of prayer for all nations,’ but you have turned it into a den of thieves.”[d]

18 When the leading priests and teachers of religious law heard what Jesus had done, they began planning how to kill him. But they were afraid of him because the people were so amazed at his teaching.

19 That evening Jesus and the disciples left[e] the city.

20 The next morning as they passed by the fig tree he had cursed, the disciples noticed it had withered from the roots up. 21 Peter remembered what Jesus had said to the tree on the previous day and exclaimed, “Look, Rabbi! The fig tree you cursed has withered and died!”

22 Then Jesus said to the disciples, “Have faith in God. 23 I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart. 24 I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve received it, it will be yours. 25 But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too.[f]

Psalm 46

Psalm 46

For the choir director: A song of the descendants of Korah, to be sung by soprano voices.[a]

God is our refuge and strength,
always ready to help in times of trouble.
So we will not fear when earthquakes come
and the mountains crumble into the sea.
Let the oceans roar and foam.
Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge! Interlude

A river brings joy to the city of our God,
the sacred home of the Most High.
God dwells in that city; it cannot be destroyed.
From the very break of day, God will protect it.
The nations are in chaos,
and their kingdoms crumble!
God’s voice thunders,
and the earth melts!
The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us;
the God of Israel[b] is our fortress. Interlude

Come, see the glorious works of the Lord:
See how he brings destruction upon the world.
He causes wars to end throughout the earth.
He breaks the bow and snaps the spear;
he burns the shields with fire.

10 “Be still, and know that I am God!
I will be honored by every nation.
I will be honored throughout the world.”

11 The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us;
the God of Israel is our fortress. Interlude
