1 Chronicles 19:1-21:30, Romans 2:25-3:8, Ps 11:1-7, Proverbs 19:10-12

Today is July 15th welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian it is wonderful to be here with you in the center of the week in the center of the month and moving forward together step-by-step day by day on the adventure of a lifetime that takes us through a year and through the Bible. And I am supremely grateful that we can be on this journey together. Right now, our journey has us in the book of First Chronicles in the Old Testament and in the letter to the Romans. And we’re just getting moved into it and we've…we’ve witnessed enough now to know that it speaks directly. It doesn’t have a problem, like it…it’s not going to be subtle, it’s gonna be direct and speak to us directly like yesterday when we were directly speaking about hypocrisy. And we’ll see what…what’s in store for us today. But first, we’re reading from the Christian Standard Bible this week. First Chronicles 19, 20, and 21.

Commentary:

Okay. So, in the in the…in the letter to the Romans we continue to watch Paul, essentially close loopholes…kind of. Yesterday it was hypocrisy, essentially, that we were talking about in the form of judgment, judging others for things that we are guilty of ourselves and for that matter judging at all because God is “the” judge and our judgments are usually pretty judgmental, right? Bring out the verses that say this is what you’re doing wrong and all this kind of stuff that we’ve seen over the years and probably done over the years or had done to us over the years. And yet Paul says that’s not how God is doing this. God is patient. God is kind. He is long-suffering. It is His patience and His kindness that brings you to repentance. So, a stark contrast to the way that we operate.

In our reading today Paul addresses some things that he had been accused of saying, which is essentially like God is the most high. He is the glorious one above all else and I, we humans, we are not. We are not God. We are lower than God, but we are also sinful people. And, so, since God is kind and patient and long-suffering. And since there is no way that we could ever achieve righteousness on our own then doesn’t our sin just exalt God higher? Like, doesn’t us being worse make Him a higher, which is this…essentially like this back door to being able to say I can do whatever I want with whoever I want, however I want, whenever I want. God’s wither not paying attention, or His kindness will lead me to repentance. And probably we can all get our heads around that stark of a concept or that big of an analogy, but we subtly do this kind of stuff because. Like, as long as we can keep it hidden as…as long as it’s not exposed we can keep these things around. We like to do these things in secret. And Paul is directly saying this is absolutely not okay. And, so, as we go into our day we should…we should give some thought to what we’re trying to justify, that we’re trying to make okay when it’s probably not, or for sure not and we know better, and we know it. God is the judge, and He is kind, and it is His kindness that leads us to repentance. And that is beautiful. And we can like think of that is like a get out of jail free card or something but He’s not doing this because of that. He’s doing this because the trajectory, the sin that we want to justify…the things that we want to justify that we know better than, their gonna judge us…we’re gonna be…we’re gonna ruin ourselves because sin only leads to death. God is just being patient and saying, you don’t have to go there, you can come to me that you might have life. And, so, let’s think about that today. What are we justifying that isn’t going anywhere and isn’t gonna help anything?

Prayer:

Holy Spirit, we need You. We invite You into that and the truth is, we’re already thinking of some of those things but if we spend some time, we can find like there’s all this going on subtly underneath the surface. It’s part of our culture. Like we live in a culture that has so much false in it that we’re just led to always keep secrets and keep things false when You have invited us into the light to be true, to be free. And, so, help us see the chains that are around us that we’re just coexisting with because it’s just always been this way. We’re just used to it when we could be free. Come Holy Spirit we pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Good morning DAB community my name is Naomi I’m calling from reading in the UK it’s my first time of calling for prayer in about a couple of years of listening because I’ve only just found the record button. So, you might be hearing from me again now. My prayer request this morning is for myself, for my business partner who is a deaf sign language user. We have a sign language interpreting service here in the UK for the deaf community and we’ve had two really bad experiences with two companies providing us with financial services both of whom breached their contract with us and both who have subsequently raised claims against us which we’ll be going to court to both defend and also to put our own counterclaim against them. I just want to pray first of all for the experience within the courts for my business partner and how inaccessible the courts really are and just the level of service which is provided. And I just pray Lord that You will go before us at the right access level in place and I thank You so far for what You’ve done and how have You’ve orchestrated things. I want to pray for Your justice and Your victory in these cases. And I pray also that You will use these cases to highlight the iniquity that’s currently present in financial services and also the housing service, housing market service, Lord where deaf and sick people or people with vulnerabilities fall through the cracks and are burned because of people not following the equivalency act. So, I just pray You’ll use as a case study to change law and to bring new equality into our system in the name of Jesus I ask Your victory Amen.

Good afternoon this is Renee calling from New York calling on July 12th and I’m just calling for a young lady who called in from Chicago regarding…she said she was the caregiver of someone going through dementia and expressed her anger and her lack of patience and frustration. And then she explained that it is her mom which makes all the sense of the world. And, you know, this is not just some random person this is your mom. So, all of those feelings and all of those emotions I just need you to know that it is coming from a place of hurt and you and I know just from the sound of your voice know that, you know, God He mends our heart and He’s gonna do that for you. He’s gonna give you a peace that surpasses all understanding and He’s with you and He’s with your mom. And I just need you to know that it’s OK. It’s OK to feel everything that you’re feeling because it’s your mom. And I’m just want you to know not like take away from how you are feeling and also know that it is a…a blessing that you can be there with her. She’s not in a home she’s with her daughter and she may have some good days and bad days and may not really know who you are at times but knowing that you’re there with her is a blessing. So, through all the frustrations I just want you to remember that. Also remember that we serve a mighty God who’s a keeper and He is a God of peace and love. So, I’m just praying for your peace, your love, your patience, and restoration and strength.

Hi this is Brian from Australia I’m calling for the very first time. I’m calling because I heard a prayer request form Margo a missionary in Liberia. Dear sister I want to encourage you that we are praying for you. Last week as a church we had a fasting and prayer retreat in which we had prayed for every nation by name, and we prayed for Liberia. We prayed that God would have mercy on that nation and that God would open the gates of that nation to their local churches and the missionaries working in that country to be able to preach the gospel so that the remnant might be saved. I want to…I want to encourage you sister. Just hang in there. You have the backing of a huge army that’s praying and lifting you up in this time of need. God bless you and your husband in your work for the Lord. Praise God.

Hello, my name is Megan I’ve called before. I’ve listened for about four years on and off now four maybe five and I just heard Micah with his prayer request about his marriage and I want you to know Micah and every other discouraged person in a relationship that God is in amongst you. God is in the middle of you, He’s surrounding you, He’s in the midst of you. And you reaching out to Him is so important for the future of your marriage. I’m gonna pray for you, all you and all marriages right now. Dear holy God thank You so much for this man Micah, for every person who is uplifting their marriage today holy God. Thank You, Jesus that You purposed them with an amazing companion. And holy God I thank You that You are the protector of our relationships. You’re the protector of our hearts Lord God and we present those hearts to You today Lord Jesus. I thank You that in Your word You are about unity, You are about peace, You are about love Lord Jesus. I thank You that You are gonna bring a supernatural peace, supernatural favor upon Micah, upon others. Lord Jesus Your name is gonna be made famous in this relationship Lord Jesus. Thank You, God that You are a healer, You heal emotions, You heal pain, You he’ll struggle, You heal insecurities holy God. And Lord Jesus we just uplift everybody to You today. In Your name. Amen.

This is OK with not being OK from Alberta. Margo from Liberia when I pray for you and bring you for before Jesus, I see him blowing a fresh cool wind on you. Your hair is gently blowing and it’s so refreshing for you and it’s full of the scent of flowers and trees and you just drink it in and it’s just giving you hope and energy and just renewing you. So, that’s my prayer for you. Vincent, praying for you. John who doesn’t know how to pray. Sometimes your heart is so full, and your burdens are so heavy. Just sit with Jesus in your mind, in your favorite place. I don’t know, maybe some people have to crawl into a dark closet and just sit with Him or go out somewhere peaceful. Just close your eyes and hand Him the big, awful backpack or garbage bag of stuff. See what He does with it. Watch Him. Just sit with Him. Let Him…I don’t know…He knows what to do with it. This is OK with not being OK. Make it a great day.

1 Chronicles 16:37-18:17, Romans 2:1-24, Psalm 10:16-18, Proverbs 19:8-9

Today is the 14th day of July, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible, I’m Brian it’s great to be here with you today as we approach the middle of another one of the months that we get to share together, 12 of them in all as we move through the Bible in a year. It is a joy to be with you here now, as we take the next step forward together and that will lead us back into the book of 1 Chronicles today, chapter 16 verse 37 through 18 verse 17.

Commentary:

Okay, have you ever judged somebody or commented on someone’s behavior and you were guilty of doing the same thing at some point in your life, maybe even traipsing out versus to make your judgment, to make your commentary, even though you’re also guilty? That’s called, generally speaking, hypocritical right, hypocrisy and now that we’ve moved past all the pleasantries and greetings and kind of gotten into this Book of Romans, we see the tone of voice that Paul uses is very direct. Actually, we’ll find that in most of the letters, pretty direct conversation and Paul is talking about this sort of hypocrisy. And let’s face it, we’ve all judged people for things that we’ve done like we’re just, we’re a mess sometimes but let’s allow the letter to the Romans to just speak for itself. Therefore, every one of you who judges is without excuse for when you judge another you condemn yourself since you, the judge do the same things that we know that God’s judgment on those who do such things is based on the truth. Do you think any of you who judges those who do such things that do the same that you will escape God’s judgment? Yeah okay, so that’s as stark as it can be. And so, here we are to look in the mirror and face that. We put ourselves in the position of God and we like to judge on behalf of God and we like to bring out versus out to defend ourselves when often we’re being hypocritical because in some sort of way, we have the same things within us and we’re capable of doing the same things and we can’t stand that God wouldn’t judge those people. And so, we need to just people sometimes. I mean so often that’s what we get pulled into, we see something that we think is wrong or we think is unjust or that was really really interfering with our plans and goals and so we need God to judge those people’s wrong, move them out of the way and when I doesn’t happen them we get about the business of being the judge pretty quickly. Paul is saying here is that not gonna work because God’s not withholding judgment. Instead, he is bestowing the riches of his kindness and I’m quoting here the riches of his kindness, restraint and patience God’s kindness and again I am quoting this right out of the Bible, God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance. So, yeah Romans will continue to give us a theological underpinning and explain a lot to us theologically, but it also snaps things into place practically. What’s happening here though over, over the course of the days that we spend in Romans is that an argument is being laid out and so this whole thing is being set up and that’s what we’re reading here. What Paul’s saying today, for starters is that, we can judge all we want it doesn’t make a difference we’re not the judge. Our judgments don’t do anything like, in the eyes of God. God is God, God will do what God will do and we so often hypocritically step in His way and try to become the sovereign judge. And I know we all know people who are judgy right, and it’s going nowhere. And so, let’s carry that forward as Paul continues to layout the underpinnings of our faith.

Prayer:

So Father, we thank You thank You for this book, we thank You for Romans, we thank You for all that it that it has a how densely packed it is how much is there and we ask Holy Spirit that we would have eyes to see and ears to hear, as we’ve been praying that we would have understanding hearts that we would be transformed, that we would be changed, that Your kindness, Your patience, despite our judgments and hypocrisy, that Your kindness would lead us to repentance. We’re so often thinking fearfully about your wrath and that that’s supposed to lead us to repentance and yet what we’re finding is that You are kind and patient and leading us to repentance through restraint and that is such, that is in such stark contrast to how we normally are; we don’t offer kindness and restraint and patience. We all too often offer our judgment when it is kindness that leads us to repentance. Help this to sink in, help this to sink into the parched soil of these portions of our hearts giving us nourishment’s we pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

I find myself struggling to do things on my own to do it in my own strength and yet there’s this ever loving, forgiving compassionate God there who wants to help me but for some reason I just find myself continuing to try to struggle and do it on my own. Not to be weak yet, in my weakness I fall because my pride. And yet I have this community that’s so loving and so willing to pray for us so, I’m just gonna reach out and ask for prayer for me, my family, my children to help me to give up my pride and to seek God for help first and foremost. So, please if this community would pray for me as I pray when I listen for everyone else. I just felt weak to reach out but I know it’s what I really desperately need. So, thank you in advance for your prayers. I know this community. Thank you so much God bless.

This is Laquita from Vanita, Oklahoma. I wanted to pray for the gentlemen who had called in about his neighbor she has stage 4 cancer, she has two small children. And I just wanted to pray that the Lord would give you courage that…you’ve been on my mind ever since I heard you call in and I think the Lord wants to use you to go over there and minister the gospel to her and to tell her how much Jesus loves her and cares for her. And for you to lift up that family. And I’m just gonna pray. Lord, I just pray for this gentlemen Lord, that you would give him courage Lord. That You would take away any fear that he might have, that he might go over to this lady’s house and minister Your love, Your mercy, Your grace, Your compassion for her and her family Lord God. I just pray that You would open a door for him Father God that no man can shut Father and that You would just boldly come up on him and the Holy Spirit Lord that he would just be courageous to minister Your salvation to this lady. And I just thank you that You’re a faithful Lord, I thank You that You watch over Your word, Your performant. I thank You that You place this in his heart and Lord I just pray that You would fulfill Your word through him. In Jesus name. Amen.

So, we’re all feeling a little overwhelmed, we’re getting help but I just need an army of believers just lifting her up, her name is Jillian. She’s an amazing young woman and this just came out of, I don’t know, I just…I feel like it’s just been really terrible and surprising and so yes, we need our Bible in our hearts and in our home and in our faith just to trust the Lord with this and with her. And just praying for so many who are dealing with anxiety during this time. So, I pray for all of you who are struggling and I thank you in advance for praying for my beautiful Jillian and for me and my family. Thank you everybody. Bye.

Hi, this is Blessed by Jesus in Kansas City and it’s been a while but my heart was touched on the July 12th podcast by the lady from Chicago who was taking care of her mom who has dementia. I want you to know that you don’t walk that road alone and I am wanting to thank you on behalf of your mother for loving her and taking care of her when it’s not an easy job. I am praying along with you for your anger to be lessened, for you to find a joy again as you serve your mother in this ministry and I’m praying that God would send you just the right people at just the right time to walk beside you and to help you. I’m praying that you will accept that help and that you will have some times where you feel absolutely normal and refreshed. May you know that God loves you and God loves your mom and many, many people are lifting you up in prayer. Good bye.

1 Chronicles 15:1-16:36, Romans 1:18-32, Psalms 10:1-15, Proverbs 19:6-7

Today is the 13th day of July welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I’m Brian it’s great to be here with you today. Every day it’s good to be here around the Global Campfire together as we continue to move forward on our journey. We’re reading from the Christian Standard Bible this week and we’re still working our way through the book of first Chronicles in the Old Testament and we are just brand-new getting into the book of Romans in the New Testament. So, First Chronicles chapter 15 verse 1 through 16 verse 36 today.

Commentary:

Okay. So, we’re just getting into the book of Romans and we’ll have plenty to talk about, not only through Romans but through all of Paul’s letters. Romans is very, very densely packed with theology. So, it’s like, yeah, you got a kinda really pay attention on some of these things to…to these kind of lengthy, complex sentences. But in effect we began a letter with greetings and then Paul is starting to lay out a case for faith, that it is faith in Jesus that justifies us before God. And, so, as we get into today’s reading he’s just sort of going back to the beginning and laying it out, like laying out that God has always desired to be known, and that, for that matter nobody has an excuse because God is evident…like the evidence of God’s attributes can be seen every blink of every eye. All you have to do is look around you at creation and see the evidence of God’s existence even though He can’t be seen, and no one has ever seen Him…seen Him. So, Paul explains it this way and…and I’m just quoting from Romans. “For His invisible attributes, that is, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen since the creation of the world, being understood through what He has made. As a result, people are without excuse.” So, Paul is beginning to build a case for faith - you can’t see God, but you can see evidence of God and faith is the thing that lets you see what you cannot see.” But he’s also laying out an argument right up front here that everybody can look around and see evidence of God, and it has always been this way. And yet people were blinded and fell into all kinds of sinful things that have kind of led us to the place that we are. And in that slide, in that spiral downward while still trying to look for and even control God we made our own gods. We started worshiping other things are worshiping each other. And, so, humanity began to experience things that it wasn’t designed to experience, nor were they ever intended by God. Well…we had to have it our way. And isn’t that the story? Isn’t that the story? And yet as we will see laid out clearly, God has His own story to tell and we’re a part of that story, not the other way around. And, so, God has been relentlessly pursuing us. And even though we want we want to have our own way there is always a way back to Him. It won’t be our way. It’ll be His way. But there is a way, and that way can be found through faith.

Prayer:

Father, we thank you for your word. And as we continue to move into Romans, Holy Spirit come, give us ears to hear, eyes to see, an understanding mind and heart. Apply these things to our lives so that they can direct our steps, so that they can transform our motives, so that they can transform our hearts. Come Holy Spirit into all this we ask in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Good morning DABbber family this is la Chula calling from Los Angeles CA and I just want to thank my DAB community for their prayers for standing with me. Five months ago, this day my daughter was abandoned by her husband leaving her eight weeks pregnant and with a special needs child. And what felt like the end of the world was the beginning of something new and beautiful. She’s on a very beautiful journey and to finding her identity in Christ. And I just want to thank pastor Brian and Jill and…and all the DAB community for standing with me at such a time. I want to wish her a beautiful birthday as well because today…yesterday was her 28th birthday and I just wanted to say happy birthday to my daughter. She has blessed me beyond measure. I can’t believe that God has crowned me with her as my daughter and now is going to give me a little Princess in September. And although, you know, we’re still walking together with uncertainty at times, God is never wrong and He’s always faithful. So, God is never wrong and He’s always faithful…

Hey my sweet DAB fam this is Kingdom Seeker Daniel. Family I could really use your prayers. As LOV and I were enroute to and outdoor facility for kids LOV got a phone call that her son passed away this morning on July 10th. And, so, this is really a shocker and we turned around and were getting ready to head back but then we asked the grandsons if they wanted to, you know, go somewhere anyway. It was kind of heavy for everybody, but they decided they wanted to go. So, with heavy hearts we are…we are here trying to just process through it all. So, will you please be in prayer for my dear bride LOV and her daughters Tonya and Nicole and their dad Bill senior. I’m a bit perplexed because I was planning on flying out next Monday the 19th to visit with D2 for his birthday because that's…that’s the actually day for his birthday and the only day for visitation. So, I’m not exactly sure what to do at this point, whether I should go…I could go…I don't…I don’t want to necessarily leave my bride. So, I don’t know family. So, will you guys please be in prayer for us, and specifically for LOV. Love you guys so much.

Hey DAB…DAB community this is your girl Trelravenell by way of the DMV area, your marriage coach and I wanted to lift up prayers to the team, lifting up prayers for some of our individuals. Praying for Jacob tumors on his spinal cord. He had called in. I just believe that God is going to heal him. Anybody that’s having any spinal cord issues, any issues of them being able to function, muscular issues, bone issues and I’m praying that God is going to realign their…their bodies right now in the name of Jesus. I’m praying for those that are suffering from infertility. I’m praying for God to restore the womb, that He makes a way out of no way for these individuals to have the…a child, for them to bring a child into this world. We know that there are several things that can…can happen by way of technology and other means and I’m just believing God is going to open that door. Praying for Jeannie who’s having car issues and just constant life challenges and struggles. It seems like she’s going through adversity after adversity and I’m just praying that God…that she’s able to cast her cares on the Lord, that He cares for her, that God will just shower down His blessings on her, shower down His piece on her and every adversity and challenge that she’s facing right now that she will come out on top, and she will have the victory. Praying for Jeanette who has had…who is…who is a diabetic and going through dialysis. She had a tooth pulled and some other things and she’s only in her 40s and it seems like she’s having a lot of health issues. I pray that she is healed for by the stripes of Jesus you are healed even from diabetes, dialysis, any issues of the kidney any of the issues of the liver. I know God can heal and I pray that He gives you the wisdom on how to care for your body and the things that you need to do so you can walk in total healing and manifestation. Praying for Dean senior who had four liters of fluid off of his liver and waiting a liver transplant. I’m believing he will get it and it will be good in Jesus’ name.

Hey DAB family this is Jasmine calling from Virginia, and I’m actually called up here before but today I just wanted to thank Renzo from Florida for just calling in and praying for others. It really just motivates me to like hear someone that’s like in my age group just motivating and encouraging people because I’m not used to seeing that. So, thank you for that. And I just wanted to pray for everyone. So, Lord Heavenly Father I just thank you for today, thank you for waking us up today, hearing this podcast so that we could just be encouraged and motivated to just draw closer to Lord. I pray that you protect each and every one of us Lord. I pray that you give us peace and just comfort so that we could walk into today or tomorrow with pride Lord. And I just ask that you forgive us for all of our sins. I pray that you cleanse us from anything and that you just blind us from all the things Satan lies upon us in the name of Jesus I pray Amen.

I went to church the other night for the first time in many many weeks
and I found out that it’s true his spirit still speaks
peace and love and things to come
God loves us all not just some
reluctantly I gave him space
lovingly abundantly he gives me back grace
he opens the locks within my heart
and he guarantees a brand new start
why do I still try so hard to turn away
why does he still keep loving me more with each passing day
why does he keep on letting me do things my own stupid way
even when I buck he still says it’s OK
God is God and he’s just that way
maker of kings
above all things
knowing today what tomorrow brings
counter of raindrops keeper of tears
he knew before time was the sum of my years
the core of my fears
the what when where and everything about all my careers
and yet still I’m reluctant to do things his way
I’m hardheaded and stubborn what more can I say
but I do know I feel him and I feel him real strong
it doesn’t take a genius to see that I was wrong
so I’m acknowledging his greatness and I’m acknowledging my sin
and I’m praying very humbly for his spirit to come in
and redirect my thinking and guide all my steps
soften the hardness of my heart
it’s not much but it’s what he expects
I recommit myself to you body mind and spirit
the other path will still be there but I’m not trying to hear it
it won’t be easy and it won’t be smooth
but a long ways to go and a whole lot to prove
prove to my children my family and friends
to God and myself before this life ends
so thank you my Lord for bringing me back to church
since it took that to bring me back to you
help me dear Lord to stay firm on this course
and with you and everything I do

1 Chronicles 12:19-14:17, Romans 1:1-17, Psalm 9:13-20, Proverbs 19:4-5

Today is the 12th day of July, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible, I am Brian it is wonderful to be here with you today as we get going in our new work week and actually we have new territory. We finish the Book of Acts yesterday. So, when we get to the New Testament portion we’ll be moving into totally new category and so we’ll talk about when we get there but first we’re reading from the Christian Standard Bible this week, 1 Chronicles chapter 12 verse 19 through 14 verse 17.

Introduction to Romans:

Okay, so as I mentioned at the beginning, we concluded the Book of Acts yesterday. Acts is generally thought of as New Testament history and so in concluding the Book of Acts yesterday we earned our New Testament history badge for kind of keeping track in the Daily Audio Bible app. And so, now we’re moving into some new territory. We left the Book of Acts with Paul arriving in Rome. And so, the last part of the Book of Acts we were really right alongside the Apostle Paul, as he journeyed around and all the controversies that arose in his travels around the Roman Empire bringing the good news of the gospel. We went to Jerusalem and we saw him get arrested and we saw the appeal to Caesar and so he’s sailed to Rome and that’s the end of the Book of Acts. We will spend the next generous portion of our time through the year here working through the letters that Paul wrote that have been preserved that Paul had sent directly to different churches that had been established to encourage and instruct them. And what we need to understand is yes, currently at the moment we are reading the New Testament and these letters are included in the New Testament of the Bible. But when these letters were written there wasn’t a New Testament to include them in. And so, these letters were copied and passed around from church to church. Descriptions of early church would be to sing a hymn to have a meal together to maybe read from the prophets or to read from the law from the Mosaic law, the law and the prophets. Or to read the Chronicles of the apostles or to read some of these letters and over time they were collected together and now we have them in the New Testament so we’ll be spending time in Paul’s letters. He’s not the only one that wrote letters that ended up in the New Testament but Paul’s letters, they are grouped together and we’re gonna move through them at once. And another thing to understand is that we’ve read Matthew, Mark, Luke and John we’ve read the Gospels, that’s how we got going, that’s where we spent the first half of our year in the Gospels. These letters though, were written before the Gospels were written and so, these letters some of them are the earliest Christian writings that exist. So, today were going to move into the book of Romans and this is the first, like I said, many of the letters that Paul wrote in the New Testament. But this is the first one that we’re coming to and most scholars agree this is like the crown jewel, this is the very comprehensive work that provides an incredible amount of our theological understanding of Jesus and his work and what it represents. This letter was probably written from the city of Corinth where the Corinthians were, some of Paul’s strongest missionary work was performed in Corinth and so this was probably written from there, probably somewhere in the mid-50s. And I don’t mean like the 1550s or the 1950s, I mean like the 50s like the 0050 length of 50s. And this is one of the more lengthy letters of Paul. And so, when he finished it, at least according to the book of Romans, he sent a Deaconess, her name was Phoebe, to hand deliver the letter. Phoebe was from the church Incontraia and that was like a suburb of Corinth. In this case Paul is sending a letter to the church in Rome. But this is not, Paul had never been to Rome so he didn’t plant the church in Rome and nobody really knows who did or how the gospel made its way to Rome other, we remember that Stephen was stoned and then people began to run. People began to spread out looking for freedom in a peaceful way to live and to avoid, kind of, marginalization and persecution. And so, you know, a likely scenario, probably the likely scenario is it, that’s how the gospel got to Rome, somebody or group of people who had been present with what the Holy Spirit was doing at Pentecost and in the church in Jerusalem, ended up carrying the message back to Rome and eventually a church was established there. So, Paul was a naturally born Roman citizen. He hadn’t been to Rome but he was looking forward to it. We know the story, he went to Jerusalem, got arrested and then made his way to Rome as a prisoner and we’ve watched all that and we’ve watched you know, the Sanhedrin, against Paul plan to assassinate, assassination plots are unearthed, and Paul is rescued and saved in we’ve seen the difference between the Sadducees and the Pharisees when Paul has addressed them. We’ve seen all that’s coming against Paul everywhere he goes, like he can’t really hardly get to a new city without the Jewish people stirring up some kind a mob against him so, he has this reputation and we look at that, we may think like “okay, yeah, this is this is how they treated Jesus, this is how they treat Paul, this is how they treat everybody” but we me wonder like what’s going on here? Why are they so mad at Paul, why were they so mad at Jesus for that matter? As we move through the book of Romans we’ll be able to explore some of that, begin to understand why this good news was a controversy, why it was thought of as a heresy even, why it was thought of as like an anti-God thing, this is why the Sanhedrin, other than just to stay in power, lie they’re raging against somebody like Paul because they cannot get their minds around what he’s saying and we’ll begin to be able to understand the lay of the land there as we move through the book or letter of Romans. And so let’s get started, Romans chapter 1 verses 1 through 17 today.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word. We thank You for bringing us into this new territory. And as we begin the Book of Romans and start our journey through these letters these very, very, the earliest of preserved writings that were centered around the story of the good news of the gospel, we invite Your Holy Spirit to lead and guide us to open our eyes to see and open our ears to hear and we might understand the implications of the Gospel and how much it actually changes things for we who believe. Come, Holy Spirit into this next season that we will share together in the letters of Paul. We pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Prayers and Encouragements:

Hey my amazing DAB fam, this is Kingdom Seeker Daniel. To the unnamed brother, you’re battling unforgiveness and you find it hard to let go sins of the past. John 8:36 simply tells us, my friend, if the son sets you free you will be freed indeed. So, my brother, if you have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and repented of your sin, you are free indeed. You simply have to walk that out and so sometimes I know that the stumbling blocks and the snares and the pitfalls of the enemy wants to try to remind us. That’s all he can do though is just try to remind us. We’ve got to press, set our affections and our mind on things above so you are free. So, let’s just keep pressing forward. Father lift up your son. I pray that You would cause him to remember who he is in You in the name of Jesus. And then for Ava from Colorado Springs, God I’m asking that You would be with her and the six children that will have to testify concerning this sex abuse court hearing. What would You give her and the children the ability to speak the truth and give them the strength to declare what needs to be declared and I pray that Your Spirit would govern all of these matters in Jesus name. Kirah, oh my goodness, thank you for your testimony this contrite in Jesus, hallelujah, thank you so much woman of God for that powerful testimony. Love you family.

Hello Daily Audio Bible family. I am missionary from Chicago calling in asking for prayer. I am the sole caregiver for an elderly mom suffering from dementia. I’ve been a sole caregiver going on two years now when she moved in with me and if you’ve ever dealt with someone with dementia, you know it’s very unpredictable but every day just gets a little bit harder and harder as the disease progresses, as well as just the pressure and the stress on caregivers. And I’ve just noticed the last few months my patience has decreased and my stress levels and kind of, frustrations with the situation that I’m in has only increased so I’m just asking for prayer. Prayer for my mom first and foremost that she will just continue to have all of the positive aspects of her personality and hold onto as much as herself for as long as she can. But also just prayers for me as I try to get more patience and kindness and less frustration and anger about the situation and that I can just be surrounded by guidance and support and just increased faith and perseverance for the situation that we’re in. Thank you very much for your prayers. I know God is listening and it’s also so comforting to know that all of you all are are listening and praying for me as well. Thank you.

1 Chronicles 11:1-12:18, Acts 28:1-31, Psalms 9:1-12, Proverbs 19:1-3

Today is the 11th day of July welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian it is wonderful to be here with you as we greet a new week and just reflect upon the fact that…like we always do…it’s a new week and it’s out in front of us. It’s not something that we’re in the middle of and it’s not something that’s behind us. It’s something that is yet in front of us. And, so, what this week’s gonna look like is going to be made up of the choices and decisions that we make and the words that we use and craft to speak and the motives of our hearts. And we can choose. We always have the choice about how we’re gonna respond to things. We don’t just have to react. And the Bible helps us on so many levels. And, so, welcome to a brand-new week that we get to live into together. We are continuing our journey through the book of First Chronicles. We are also continuing our journey through the book of Acts, although we will conclude that journey during this brand-new shiny week. So, let’s get to it. We’re reading from the Christian Standard Bible. First Chronicles 11:1 through 12:18.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word. We thank You for…we thank You for this family, this community. We thank You for each other and we thank You for Your word, binding us together. There is no each other without Your word in this community. This is why we’ve come together. And, so, as we greet this new week and move into it we invite Your Holy Spirit to continue to speak and lead us, direct our steps, and guide our paths, and continue to bind us together in heart and spirit knowing that we’re on a journey together, and that we care for one another, we’re spending this year together getting to know what the Scriptures have to say to us to guide us, but also getting to know each other. And, so, come Holy Spirit we pray. In the name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hello Daily Audio Bible family my name is John Avon and I am from the Philippines. This is my first time calling in, but I’ve been a listener for nearly over a year now. I am a double amputee. I lost my both legs in a motorcycle accident way back in 2003. Our Father is just so gracious and amazing. He has been using my testimony and my life tremendously for His glory. I am currently working for the government as a public health pharmacist here in my small town and I praise God and I thank Him for this job because I can freely reach out in sharing gospel of Jesus and the goodness of God to the community significantly to the less fortunate that seek free medical care services. This podcast has been helping me and strengthening me a lot in my walk with Jesus every day. Knowing Him deeper I grow to love him through His spoken words. I have been praying with you and for you. I love you family. Thank you that I’ve been a part of this community. God bless us all.

Hello, my name is Micah, and I am in a relationship that is not in a good spot. My wife is…she doesn’t find me attractive, and I don’t know what to do. I’ve been working out, I’ve been talking to her. I’ve been doing everything she said that what I need to do so I can be attracted…attractive for her. But how…but it never seems to be enough. I don’t know where to…I don’t know where else to go. I need God’s help. Thanks.

This is Danny from Southern Oregon. I wanted to lift up Eva and her children. Eva, you said that you have all been subpoenaed to testify in court on July 12th. And, so, I just wanted to lift you up to our Father right now. Heavenly Father I just lift this family up to You and I just pray Lord that You would just pour out Your courage on her and her children, that…that You would give them peace in knowing that, You know, they’re doing the right thing. I just pray Lord that the truth would come out, that You would just allow them all to speak truth and boldness while they’re on the stand. And I just pray Lord that You would pour out forgiveness wherever forgiveness is due and I pray that justice would be served, that whatever wrong was done Lord would be held accountable and would be made right in the eyes of the justice system. And I just pray that You would reveal Yourself to those who don’t know You in this situation and that You and this whole situation would be a living testimony in the future Lord. Keep these children safe, keep Ava safe I pray. Just wrap them up in Your loving arms. And I…I just thank You Lord for being there to go to when we have situations like this. You are our hope. Thank You, Father in Jesus’ name. Amen. Eva I’m going to put you on my calendar and continue to pray for you on July 12th. Love you sister.

1 Chronicles 9:1-10:14, Acts 27:21-44, Psalm 8:1-9, Proverbs 18:23-24

Today is the 10th day of July, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible, I am Brian it is wonderful to be here with you today as we round the corner on another one of our weeks. And yeah, we’ll read today and then we’ll release, will be done with this week and continue moving forward. We’ve been reading from the English Standard Version this week, which is what will do today. We’ve been working our way through the Book of 1 Chronicles, as well as the Book of Acts which is what we’ll continue to do today. And so, 1 Chronicles chapters 9 and 10.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word. Here we are we’ve successfully reached the conclusion of another full week together. It’s a day-by-day occurrence in the weeks go by and Your faithfulness is ever apparent. We look back to yesterday and You were there. We look back to last week and You were there. We look back to last month and You’ve been there all the way we look through our lives and see how the guidance of the Scriptures that You have always been at work and will always continue to Father us and to love us and we love You, we adore You, we worship You. There is none like You and even saying that is ridiculous. There is none even close. The only thing that is close is that Your Spirit is within us and You are empowering us to bring good news and light into this world and so often we squelch that. So, Holy Spirit come, thank You for Your patience and kindness toward us. We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Prayers and Encouragements:

This is Trusting God in Texas and I just wanted to thank His Little Sharie for praying for those of us including yourself, who have trouble walking. I have been praying for you since I heard you first speak a couple years ago. I heard you recently talk about having to walk into church with a walker. I know what it’s like to have people look at you because you don’t walk well and that you need help walk. I’ve had trouble walking my whole life and even though my Long Walk will consist of the Long Walk for me in the parking lot to the door of my clinic I still pray when I do my Long Walk. I have my husband help me walk and I have a cane. But I wanted to read one of my favorite verses, passages in the Bible and it comes from Isaiah chapter 40 and it says He gives power to the weak, this is 40 verses 29 through 31 He gives power to the weak and to those who have no might he increases strength even you shall faint and be weary and young men shall utterly fall but those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. God bless all of you who are doing the Long Walk today and we will be praying with you and for you. In Jesus name.

Good morning Daily Audio Bible community this is Diane Olive Brown calling from Newberg, Indiana. And it is July 7th but I’m reading July 6th 2021 and it is 7:04 a.m. central time. And we’re gonna take our Long Walk but I just wanted to say thank you Brian, thank you so much. I started with you and now I’m with Daily Audio Bible Chronological and Daily Audio Bible Kids and I love you so much because you understand me, always spoke healing into my heart, always spoke love. And I began with you and now my husband and my granddaughter are joining me and I just want to say thank you for loving me just the way I am. And I remember the times that were most crucial to me. You would speak something just for me. I don’t think you knew it but I want to say thank you and today, I’m going on my Long Walk however it turns out, I’ll report, I’ll send a picture or a short video because this is my Community and I’m all caught up. It took me a long time but I’m all caught up. And I love you guys, I love you.

Good morning DABers. I just want to pray this morning for every request and praise report that we’ve received thus far. Thank You Jesus for hearing the heart of Your people. Lord, we are crying out to You because You are the heart fixer and the mind regulator. And we just want to bless Your name. There are families that are broken Father God, but You bless the broken and save us to be in Your kingdom. We hear the cries of men, literally crying for their position for their heart and their pain. Father God, You are the Balm in Gilead to make the sin sick whole. I would pray for those who are in their bed of affliction who cannot move who are having such a traumatic time with cancer, COVID 19, with all the ailments the devil seems to through at us but Father God You still continue to bless us in our weakness because Your strength is made perfect in our weakness. Lord, it’s just refreshing to hear Your people around the world around the globe, cry out to you in this time that we’re living in. But help us to seek Your face earnestly. Forgive us oh Lord and cleanse our heart, make it pure. Lord, thank You for who You are and who You’ve been to every single one of these DABers throughout their life. Just help us to get a closer walk with You. So that when …

Daily Audio Bible thank you for your ministry it has taught me how to believe in God and I’m so proud and happy for you. I hope that China’s new baby is doing well. And Tyler and Christian, I pray their fine too. And Max, who is probably in college now is doing well, I can tell. And Ezekiel, wow, I’m so amazed at how well he reads, like, I just, it gives me a dynamic understanding of how God works. Thank you for your ministries once again and I hope to see you next time. Bye.
Okay we did the community walk, we’re gonna walk again this afternoon. Do you want to say something about that? So, yeah, my grandma just told me we’re going for the community walk and we will have a lot of fun going on this community walk and I feel like talking about how our community has helped us. But my favorite of all the communities is Daily Audio Bible. And my favorite part in that is Daily Audio Bible for Kids. Thank you once again and I look forward to seeing you in person. Bye.

Hi Daily Audio Bible family this is Renzo in Florida and I just want to pray for somebody that I heard on the July 7 recording. I just want to pray for one woman that’s saying that like her family is just going through a lot of like, problems, especially like, to point where there is guns involved. I just want to please pray. Father God I just know that all things are possible through You God. Let the Holy Spirit indwell in all of them. God just let, that you could just take away this escalation. Let there to be restoration in this home God. Completely heal them, guide and protect her as she tries to make peace. God let them to realize that as Christians we can’t be like that, that we can’t start drama, we can’t start stuff and that escalates to that situation God. And help them to realize, let them to have a fatherly loving rebuke from God and let them to be able to understand that they need to stop and fill them up with Your Holy Spirit and fill them up with Your presence and let them to repent of what they’re doing. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. And I just wanted to pray for, I heard somebody that was just struggling with I think mental illness or something like that and just depression and stuff like that. Father God, I just please pray for that person that was struggling with mental illness and depression God and just completely heal them, protect them and guide them and let them to be guided by the Holy Spirit fill them up with your presence, overwhelm them so much that they just have peace, peace that surpasses all understanding. And let them to take refuge in you. In Jesus name I pray. Amen. God Bless you guys, I’m praying for you. Jesus loves you. Bye.

1 Chronicles 7:1-8:40, Acts 27:1-20, Psalm 7:1-17, Proverbs 18:22

Today is the 9th day of July, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible, I’m Brian, it’s great to be here with you, like every day of our lives it’s great to be here around the Global Campfire taking the next step forward together on our voyage through the Scriptures this year and obviously we’re well on our way. We’ve just begun, but we are definitely in the second half and so let’s dive in we’re working our way through the book of 1 Chronicles in the Old Testament, we’re reading from the English Standard Version this week, 1 Chronicles chapter 7 and 8.

Commentary:

Alright so, in the Book of Acts, Paul had appealed to Caesar, which was his right to appeal to the emperor his case. We read all this, it was largely because the Jewish people wanted Paul to be tried in Jerusalem because they were gonna kill him and he knew of all this, and he was safely in Roman jurisdiction where he should be tried and so he appealed to Caesar and so now we’re sailing again. The, well, Paul is to be delivered to Rome to await his turn to stand before the emperor so we will watch that story unfold.

There’s something in our reading from Psalm 7 today that is really, really interesting and really provocative and should make us stop and think for a second. The wicked man conceives evil and is pregnant with mischief and gives birth to lies he makes a pit digging it out and falls into the hole that he is made his mischief returns upon his own head and on his own skull his violence descends. Go read this and say yeah, generally this is the law of sowing and reaping right, like you get back what you give you reap what you sow, but the language here is what’s so provocative: the wicked man conceives evil and is pregnant with mischief and gives birth to lies. The idea of conception and pregnancy and birth are very familiar probably to many, many, many, many of us definitely has been something very near to us with the birth of Reagan, our little angel who is such a blessing and gift and to look forward to another granddaughter this year. So, like the concepts here conception, pregnancy, birth, we understand that that’s how new life comes into the world. But the Bible is saying this is how deception comes into the world as well. The wicked man conceives, so conception is a super intimate thing right. The wicked man conceives evil and is pregnant with mischief and incubating right, nurturing and incubating and feeding and giving life to mischief and ultimately gives birth to lies right, to deception in this world, that brings it really, really near right. It’s not like a little lie or I this, or I was, I deceived them in this way like what we understand is now, this is really deep inside of us really intimate. Intimate is conception and pregnancy and birth. And truly these should not be things we want to give birth to in our lives because as the Psalm says I only do that we’re going to fall into our own trap the Scripture says his mischief returns up on his own head. Okay, that’s the mischief that the person was pregnant with right. The wicked man conceives evil and is pregnant with mischief, his mischief returns upon his own head after he gives birth to lies. This is like not where we probably need to be heading in our lives, it’s only bad things and so let’s give that some thought today and actually give it some thought in the framework that the Bible is giving us because it’s giving us this really, really intimate picture. And so, what were invited to do is to think about how we might be incubating.

Prayer:

So Jesus, we invite you into that because we are such an interesting, we can have all kinds of things going on in different compartments in our lives and yet you are inviting us to be whole like not compartmentalized and not conceiving evil and being pregnant with mischief and giving birth to lies and deception in this world. If we’re going to be intimate and allow something within us, to be incubated within us than we want it to be the fruit of your spirit. And so come, Holy Spirit show us the blazes where were incubating things that are only going to harm us. Help us to root those things out and walk away from them we pray in the mighty name of Jesus we ask. Amen.

dailyaudiobible.com is home base, it is the website, it is where you’ll find out what’s going on around here. Of course, you can find out what’s going on around here if you’re using the Daily Audio Bible app as well. There is a little drawer icon in the upper left-hand corner of the app that opens up to things like the Community section, which can be found in the app or on the web and in the Community section are links to get connected on social media but also that’s where the Prayer Wall is and lives and so it’s a place to always be aware of but always a place that’s available to go to ask for prayer or offer prayer into one another and so be familiar with that. That’s one of the ways we stick together is that we pray for one another and this community being global like it is that’s really like we have the fundamentals of what we need. We don’t have to get involved in everything and try to fix everything, offer our presence, knowing that we’re not alone and knowing that brothers and sisters are speaking on our behalf before the Lord, no matter where we are on this planet, that is beautiful. That is well, that is the body of Christ and the body of Christ in its beauty. So be familiar with the Prayer Wall in the Community section on the web or in the app.

If you want to partner with the Daily Audio Bible, thank you, thank you humbly and profoundly. If we weren’t in the community, if we weren’t going through this together, this wouldn’t be happening and it wouldn’t have happened all of these years. And so, if what’s happening here, bringing the spoken word of God read fresh every day and offered freely to anyone who will listen to it, anywhere on this planet, any time of day or night and build community around the fact that we are in this rhythm together and we’re showing up every day and we get to know each other’s voices and each other’s stories, if that matters, if that makes a difference than thank you for your partnership, as we navigate the summertime. There is a link on the homepage at dailyaudiobible.com. If you’re using the Daily Audio Bible app you can press the Give button in the upper right hand corner or the mailing address, if you prefer, is P.O. Box 1996 Springhill, Tennessee 37174.

And as always if you have a prayer request or encouragement you can hit the Hotline button in the app no matter where you are in the world. Or there are a few numbers that you can call depending on where you are in the world: in the Americas 877-942-4253 is the number to call, if you’re in the UK or Europe 44 2036 088078 is the number dial and if you are in Australia or that part of the world 61 3 8820 5459 is the number to call.

And that’s it for today, I’m Brian, I love you and I’ll be waiting for you here tomorrow.

Prayers and Encouragement:

What’s up everybody, gotta keep this short and sweet. Please pray for my brother man Mike Lee, brother man Mike Lee is struggling immensely right now and he could really use our prayer. Alright, have a wonderful day.

Hey everyone it’s Margo here, missionary in Liberia. I haven’t called in for a while, I’ve been attempting to not be high maintenance but I can’t, I can’t maintain that facade anymore, I need little maintenance. It’s been a very hard year for my husband and I in Liberia. I feel like I might be just drowning a little bit. I just, the challenges are so huge. And there’s been so much difficult stuff that’s happened. The hospitals basically run out of money and at the office we had to fire a couple of our national staff members because they were corrupt and that was just really heart breaking. I don’t know there’s just so much stuff. And I’ve been crying out to God, what is my purpose? You know, what would you have me do right now? And it feels like the things I do, it’s just a drop in the ocean. I do think that I’ve probably got major compassion fatigue. And I’m just feeling a bit over it all. But I don’t want this to end badly. And so, I’m asking for prayer. That’s what I need, I need prayer. So, thank you, thank you for your prayers. I love you all, bye.

Good afternoon DAB family, God bless you all. Someone called in for Salso who received a liver and kidney and knee transplant and now his body is rejecting the knee, the knee has an infection, I am praying for him, for his healing in the name of Jesus. I am praying for his wife Jerry as she has been faithful taking care of her husband. I am praying for the Lord to help her and guide her and strengthen her in the name of Jesus. I am praying for Joyful Joy, you know who I’ve found yourself in a rut, disconnected, isolation I am praying in the name of Jesus, you know for the Lord to help you feel that you are not by yourself, you are not isolated, we are with you, in the name of Jesus. You know I am believing that you’re going to continue to seek Jesus in everything in the name of Jesus. Joyful Noise, you know, I am believing, you know, along with you how the DAB has changed our lives and yes, we are grateful for that in the name of Jesus. There is so many of us who has experience transformation because of the DAB, thank you Jesus. John, welcome, the last couple of years has been difficult, especially the past year, how you find it harder and harder to stay engaged. So many people around you who are hurting and how you want to love them all, praise God, that you have the heart to want to love them all. But yes brother, I understand that it is exhausting and it is exhausting, you know, when you feel like when you’re in this and you don’t know what to do. But I am believing that the Lord is strengthening you, guiding you and helping you love them the way Christ wants you to love them. Sally, your friend Diana in the hospital with COVID I am praying for her healing in the name of Jesus. Ekberg, you applied for a job in Belize, I am praying that the Lord’s will be done in the name of Jesus. Esther from Kissimmee.

Hey DAB friends this is Alan in Australia a missionary in New South Wales. I just want you to know that we did our Long Walk a day early and the weather cooperated. Thank you so much Brian, for putting together that Heart. It was so worth the purchase. My wife and I really, really was touched through that journey. We journaled and listened and prayed and so as soon as you get that link up, we will post our pictures as well. But thank you so much for that opportunity and this idea, it’s so beautiful, we loved it and we always walk away saying “we should do this more often.” So, we’re gonna try to use your app and this journey of prayer and meditation like once a month or every other month, try to get away for a day and do this regularly. God bless you guys, we’re praying for you and remember God’s word is always true, always.

Hi Daily Audio Bible family, To Be a Blessing in California just wanted to let you know that I’m praying for you this community when I hear the folks calling in and leaving their requests, just wanted to let you know that I gotcha, better yet God’s gotcha. Hey, could you do me a favor and pray for my brother, he is expecting surgery on the 14th for spinal fusion. He’s in excruciating pain now and just want to ask for prayers that the insurance will come through, pay for what needs to be paid for, for his medical team the surgeons and the medical professionals for his recovery. But most importantly that he will know how much God loves him and will touch his heart and he’ll open his heart to the love of God. And just that as I interact with him after the surgery that God will give me the right words to say. Also, I would like to ask for prayers for my own work transition. I’ve asked my boss to do something different and she seemed to be open to it. But she does not have the final say so asking that God will put His hands on my work and will give me the patience and grace to wait for Him to lead in the direction He wants me to go. Lastly, if you could pray for the marriages. I’m thinking of the marriages here on the line that people speak of and need help with. My church community, a lot of parents, a lot of couples are struggling and I just ask that you would pray for them. God loves you. Always remember that you’re His favorite, his very favorite. God Bless you, To Be a Blessing in California. Talk to you later, Bye bye.

1 Chronicles 5:18-6:81, Acts 26:1-32, Psalm 6:1-10, Proverbs 18:20-21

Today is the 8th day of July, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I’m Brian, it’s great to be here with you today. Hopefully you had a wonderful Long Walk yesterday. I did and it was so needed and I’m so glad I took the time and it’s been so enjoyable as it is every year to just look at the different posts from the different places in the world where we just did what we set out to do. Take a day, set it aside, walk with God, refocus, recalibrate and come with a renewed sense of purpose, even though the circumstances may not have changed it’s so interesting. The circumstances don’t necessarily need to change, sometimes it’s our perspective that needs to change and then we can see things from a different angle and see things that we weren’t seeing before and a path emerges when we walk with God. There is always a path. It’s a narrow one. It leads to life. And so, I’m glad we had the opportunity to do that yesterday and I look forward to continuing to see the different posts that come in. But we have come here right now around the Global Campfire to take the next step forward together. So, let’s do that were reading from the English Standard Version this week and working our way through 1 Chronicles today chapter 5 verse 18 through 6 verse 81.

Commentary:

Okay, so it’s pretty clear the Book of Acts that we are traveling alongside the Apostle Paul and we have been all over the known world at the time with the Apostle Paul, and he made his way back to Jerusalem. He was arrested and taken to Caesarea and then he’s been held there and we’ve been watching the Jewish elite, or at least the religious leadership conspire to assassinate, bring all kinds of accusations against Paul and because of this, this is the irony, because they’re bringing all of these false accusations against Paul and because Paul is a naturally born Roman citizen, they have to bring these accusations before Roman, well, within the Roman legal system. Therefore, the people who are hearing Paul defend himself are pretty important, high-ranking people. So, when Paul got to Caesarea Maritima where he was imprisoned, he first spent a lot of time with Felix, the Roman governor. This is somebody like with the same type of authority as Pontius Pilot who sentenced Jesus to death. So, Paul spoke to Felix and his wife Drusilla, the highest-ranking man in the land in terms of the Romans, and then when he left his post, his replacement came in, his name was Festus. So, Paul was able to share the good news about Jesus with another governor of the land Festus. And in today, dropped in on Paul’s defense. So, he’s talking to the Roman governor Festus, he’s talking to King Herod Agrippa the II, he’s talking to King Agrippa’s sister, her name is Bernice and the speculation at the time was that Herod Agrippa and his sister Bernice were, well they were involved in an incestuous relationship. King Herod Agrippa and his sister or whatever that was his sister Bernice they, they were siblings of Drusilla, the wife of the previous Roman governor. So, we’re talking about high-ranking people that Paul wouldn’t be able to meet with but under the circumstances, it’s the accusation of the Jewish people that is allowing Paul to be before these very important high-ranking very powerful people sharing the good news of the kingdom and he’s open enough about it to say I wish all of you, I wish all of you were like me except for the chains. In other words Paul’s saying I have found freedom beyond these chains in Christ and I wish you could find too, whether it takes a long time, or whether it takes a short time, I hope that you can find that too and become like me, free, except for these physical chains. So, we only have a handful of days left in the Book of Acts as we travel this journey and so that will be leaving New Testament history or church era history and moving into the letters of Paul and so let’s pay particular attention to what we’re observing here: how Paul conducted ministry, how Paul led his life, how he seemingly was hopelessly devoted and hopelessly dependent upon God even, even willingly walking into circumstances that were sure to well, take his freedom away and yet nothing could take his freedom away, as we are seeing now. His influence is only increased because of his imprisonment.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word. All of the different facets. All of the different angles. All of the different ways to look at the beauty of it, and to derive meaning as You lead and guide our steps and the choices that we make and the motivations of our hearts so we thank You profoundly for these examples of those who have gone before us and what their stories look like because we can expect the same types of stories in one form or another. We just have a different culture, we’re wearing different clothes, the way things get done are different, the technology is different. We have to acknowledge that what we read in the Scriptures reveals the human heart and those motives, we may go about things differently, but our hearts are the same, so we as Your children, we need You desperately. Come, Holy Spirit lead us into all truth we pray. In the name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.

Those of you who got that and took that out on a Long Walk, I love hearing, I mean I love that feedback. So, I’ve been getting a lot of that, it is what it claims to be, a way to start a conversation and open our hearts to the emotions and give them to God. 1 Chronicles 4:5-5:17, Acts 25:1-27, Psalm 5:1-12, Proverbs 18:19

Today is the 7th day of July, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian. It’s great to be here with you as we cross through the center of the week together and continue the journey forward, step-by-step, day by day may find ourselves in the middle of the week with this is the 7th day of the month so this is a full week into the month. Of course, today is the 7th day of July, so this is our own little family holiday that we have around here around the Global Campfire. This is the day of the Long Walk and so I’m sure I’m talking to many of you who are walking and I am very much looking forward to the same. Looking forward to seeing all of the different pictures and videos and posts that come in throughout the day. I love this time it let’s us, just little windows into each other’s lives and so enjoy your day walking with God, re-setting for the second half of the year. One of the ways we do that is step-by-step, day by day and so let’s dive in. We are reading from the English Standard Version this week, 1 Chronicles chapter 4 verse 5 through 5 verse 17 today. And just reminding us, we are moving through right now what is the famous part of the Bible, the famous genealogy part of the Bible and we talked about it. We’ve talked about how this is so they would not forget. So, that these people would be remembered and as we read through this portion of the Bible than that is exactly what’s happening there being remembered, so, 1 Chronicles chapter 4.

Commentary:

Okay, so this year we have a word ‘mend’ and as we come to this point in the book of Proverbs today’s it just gives us a very good opportunity to look at that. The Proverbs have a way of speaking a sentence that says a book worth of knowledge or wisdom. And today is, kind of like. A brother offended is more unyielding than a strong city and quarreling is like the bars of a castle. So, this starts out a brother offended. So, what is that a person who’s been offended whose carrying an offense and what is that? Well, I mean, offenses can come in a lot of different shapes. Big, small, wide, narrow they just seem to find a way to fit wherever they can fit in our lives and causes all kinds of grief, but typically they form because somehow, our territory likely has been disrespected. Boundaries have been crossed. We’ve been disrespected in some way and so we resent that and it’s that resentment that is this offense and when that happens, according to Proverbs here, a person is more unyielding than a strong city. So, in this context we’ll be talking about a walled city and if we just take our knowledge of some of the stories that we’ve read in the Bible, we have seen walled cities get attacked and we’ve seen how they get surrounded and then starved out because they can’t just, they can’t just come and break the walls down. So that’s what we become when we’re carrying an offense toward somebody. We are unyielding like a walled city, a strong city, and when we’ve been the offender and we’re trying to like, get past the walls, we use this analogy all the time. The walls have come up I can’t get through to him. I can’t get through to her. I can’t get past her walls and when we say that we’re simply saying that this proverb is very accurate. We get an offense, we put up the walls, we’re protecting ourselves, we’re withdrawing emotionally, we’re becoming aloof, we’re stepping back, these are kind of natural reactions, but if we stay inside that wall, if we stay inside that fortified city than we’re going to start starving. The offense isn’t going to get dealt with and so it’s going to rot. It’s going to boil itself down into the blackness of bitterness. Both parties at some point give up and kinda become silent and then kinda become enemies because things get replayed over and over and over in our minds, we just solidify our position and our need to be right and it becomes a mess, actually, it becomes more like an unyielding city. So, maybe we finally, there is a conversation and maybe it’s not done with humility and maybe the second part of the proverb comes true. Quarreling is like the bars of a castle. So, I mean what can we say about what we’re saying. We could say basically that carrying the resentment of an offense and then quarreling, this is a way to get locked out of a relationship altogether and interestingly enough, we probably should all already know this, you probably have all already experienced this whether we’ve ever read this Proverb before or not this Proverb is true because we’ve probably all lived it at some point or another. So, how could we seek the deeper wisdom here, like what would fix this because truly like in the sound of my voice right now some of you are in a walled city of offense and some of you are on the outside of the wall because you are the offender and you’re trying to get past the walls. This is always coming on so pretty hard for me to think that nobody knows what we’re talking about right now. So, if a brother offended is more unyielding than a strong city then perhaps the reverse applies if the offense makes the walls go up maybe be grace and repentance make the walls come down. If quarreling is like the bars of a castle, then maybe kindness, kind words, humility grace, maybe those are like the garden of the castle. This is kind of how wisdom works. There it is, there it is laid out in black and white before us. Here it is for us to read and understand and she has spoken to us at the crossroads. It’s just a matter of which way we’re going to go because we get to choose whether to listen or not but if we want mending and mending is actively getting involved and repairing. Sometimes that’s just resting and healing, but often if you want to mend something you might have to tear out what’s broken down and replace it with something that’s not. Like, if you want to mend a fence then you’re probably remove the broken pieces of wood and replace them with new ones, its work. It doesn’t just happen. So, if we have people in our lives that are like behind the walls in a strong city, cut off from us and we don’t want it to be that way, then we may have to be the agent of the mending, we may have to step into it with hat in hand, no matter what and just come with grace, come with the peace and calm of the Holy Spirit. Come not needing to be right, incredible things can happen. Walls can come down; relationships can be mended.

Prayer:

And Holy Spirit, we acknowledge that reconciliation it, this is the underpinning of the gospel story that You came even while we were Your enemies, and rescued us and reconciled us and in like fashion we need to be willing to do the same. So, come Holy Spirit, and lead us in this regard. We ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.

dailyaudiobible.com is home base. It’s the websites it’s where you find out what’s going on around here and really it’s the Long Walk, that’s what’s going on around here right now as we, all over the place, in one way or another, try to find moments or the whole day with God in nature somewhere beautiful, just drink it in to have that uninterrupted space to have a conversation that doesn’t, doesn’t have to have an objective, it’s just about us pouring out our hearts and having time to say everything we needed saying, conversations are reciprocal so giving space to feel the Spirit leading and guiding, directing us, comforting us. To feel our hearts opening as we relax, as we get out in nature and all of a sudden we find that there’s a lot going on in this world that we’re not paying attention to: the beauty of the leaves, the beauty of the birds and their song, and the little creatures going about their day enjoying their lives. We begin to understand there’s healing in this, the serenity brings a calm and the Lord is in it and leads us and so, yeah, enjoy that time. Enjoy that conversation, enjoy just regrouping, looking forward into the second half of the year. Looking back at the first half of the year, and making some choices about the trajectory, where were going and allowing the Holy Spirit to lead and direct us in those choices. So, yeah, enjoy that. I have mentioned for last couple of weeks about the resource called Heart: A Contemplative Journey that is a prayer, guided prayer and musical resource that you can get wherever you get your music, just like the iTunes store, like YouTube music, just search for Heart: A Contemplative Journey or search for my name and you’ll find it and that is a resource that really is a perfect accompaniment for a day like today because it begins to guide us, we would pray and open our emotions and open our heart. That’s why it’s called Heart: A Contemplative Journey, as it were opening ourselves to what we’ve been feeling and, in some cases, what we been stuffing down inside, but it still there we’re just trying to do everything we can to cover it over. In this case, were actually in a safe place in nature. Walking with God opening ourselves to his healing. So check that resource out. And also mentioning that we have a post at the Daily Audio Bible Facebook page so Facebook.com/dailyaudiobible.com is a post for the Long Walk today. So, wherever you may be in the world, walking with God, if you happen to take a picture or little video or whatever you can post that in the Long Walk post, and then we have this place we can all come to, look at the beauty of God’s creation all over the world today. And just interact, know that we were out there alone that we were not out there alone, our brothers and sisters were all over the world doing the same thing. So, we have that post ready, looking forward to that myself looking forward to that a little later this afternoon. Probably this evening but very much looking forward to it. So, check that out.
