Ezekiel 7:1-9:11, Hebrews 5:1-14, Psalm 105:1-15, Proverbs 26:28

Today is the third day of November, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian and it is wonderful to be here with you today, as we continue to move through this first week of the 11th month, just getting moved into this 11th month of the year and we will obviously be picking up where we left off, which will take us back into the book of Ezekiel in the Old Testament and the letter to the Hebrews in the new. So, let’s dive in, we’re reading from the English Standard Version this week, Ezekiel chapters 7, 8 and 9 today.

Commentary:

Okay, let’s just camp out here in this one sentence that Proverbs offered us today. “A lying tongue hates its victims, and a flattering mouth works ruin.” This is obviously something that was wisdom thousands of years ago. And so, it was certainly poignant then, but my goodness, it, it isn’t, doesn’t seem like it could be any less poignant now, than it was then. It might even be more poignant. And this Proverb should kinda confront some things inside of us, the false aspects of our lives. Like if…if we have a lying tongue, which essentially means that…that we are willing to puff up or shrink back what the truth actually is, kind of form it and shape it for our purposes, to protect ourselves from something, or to manipulate somebody into doing something, but it’s not coming from a place of truth so, we are lying. Then we need to understand that we are expressing hatred to the one we are lying to. And it’s easy enough to go, hang on, hang on, hang on, that’s not fair, there’s a lot of nuances here. I would just say well, okay let’s just go back to, Proverbs and let’s look at this again, “A lying tongue hates its victims, and a flattering mouth works ruin.” Full stop. What makes this so confrontational or one of the ways in which the word of God is actually piercing to the place where soul and spirit divide, as we were talking about from the book of Hebrews yesterday, is that our culture is built on many, many shades of gray. And I don’t mean that like a provocative book or movie. I mean like, nuances after nuances, after nuances, and that definitely tells us that life has its complexities. It also tells us that we curate and massage things in such a way to get things that we want done or to get people to do things that we want them to do, all the time. In so many ways we just assume a layer of falseness exists over the top of everything and we don’t even pay attention to the ways that we participate in that. It’s just the Proverbs won’t let us do that. Proverbs is telling us, if you’re gonna be dishonest, like if you’re going to be false, if you’re going to have a lying tongue, then you are expressing hatred. That is a lot to hold onto. Like that really requires us observing ourselves and really inviting God into this. Because Jesus was true and Jesus is the one, we are to imitate but if we look at the ways that we participate in life and in culture, we realize there may indeed be some tremendous work to do and actually exposing the truth in our lives and letting the truth be who we are. But there’s more to this Proverb than just telling a lie. I mean, a lying tongue expresses hatred, but the mouth can do more than lie and the Proverb tells us that a flattering mouth works ruin. And this isn’t the kind of flattery that’s like hey, that was a really good job or hey, that thing that you spoke to me really helped, or thanks for taking the time to give me these instructions and help me get this thing done. Like, that’s gratitude, that’s affirmation. The flattery that we’re talking about here is words of affirmation or encouragement that are used for a purpose, not to just be goodwill, not to just express gratitude but things are said to puff somebody up in order to manipulate them or to manipulate an opening into their life for our gain, for our control. Then that ends in ruin for everyone. I mean let’s just take a pause here, step back and think about it, because we know what manipulation is, we know what false flattery looks like, we’ve probably been manipulated before in some small or very, very big ways in our lives. If we think about the times where we have discovered that we have been manipulated, is that a time to throw a party, like is that the time for rejoicing? Hey, I got taken advantage of. I’ve been manipulated. I have ruined aspects of my life over this, but I’ve discovered now that I’ve been manipulated, let’s rejoice together. I don’t know anybody like that, that certainly isn’t true of my life and my story. Rather, manipulation and discovering manipulation, simply reveals that there has been a false reality that is been spun out for us that we’ve believed in, and we’ve discovered that it’s false and it may have caused tremendous amount of ruin in our lives. And we could flip the coin over and look at the times that we’ve tried to be convincing through flattery, we’ve tried to set the stage just right and grease the wheels, so that we can get what we want from somebody. Like, even when we say it, even as I’m describing it sitting right here next to the Scriptures, it’s so icky. And this one sentence in the book of Proverbs, tells us that it leads to ruin. So, if our aim is to be icky and express hatred then yeah, we should have a deceptive, flattering mouth and a lying tongue, because that will indeed, get us where we’re going, which is ultimately, though, ruin. So, if ruin is the goal, here’s how to get there. If ruin is not the goal, then we need to jump off that train, stop lying to each other, stop deceiving each other, stop manipulating each other, stop with the false flattery, stop with the falseness and rather speak the truth in love.

Prayer:

And so, Holy Spirit, we invite You into that and we thank You for this confrontation that challenges each of us in our own ways and in our own stories. We ask that You would lead us deeper into the word of God. We were told yesterday that the word of God can reach the point where our soul and spirit divide. And so far, can’t think of a place more deep than that, that seems to be the place where the truth of who we are would actually be. Come speak truth there, to the power of the word of God and the power of Your spirit to guide us. Lead us as we ask so often, into all truth, which means away from partial lies or full lies. Lead us into all truth and away from all faults. We ask in the name of Jesus, the true one. Amen.

What’s going on around here right now, is the release of a brand-new resource into the community here, it’s called Sleep, A Contemplative Journey. And it is a, it is a musical resource intended to create space for rest and that came out a couple of days ago, on Tuesday. So, just letting everybody know, we’ve been talking about for a couple weeks, but it is widely available now, wherever you get your music, wherever it is you stream your music or purchase your downloadable digital music, whatever outlet that is, you should be able to find Sleep, A Contemplative Journey. And it’s only been a couple of days, but already kind of getting some feedback. And I went to sleep with it the first night and I just, I love that, it’s so rewarding to get that feedback. And so, just enjoy rest. I am doing the same thing, knowing what, like, what I’ve been saying all along, we’re right out in front. A couple weeks from now we’re going to be entering into the busier, maybe busiest time of the year when rest and calm and sleep are a little bit more hard to come by and have to be contended for. So, releasing this, out in front of it, getting this resource kind of into our hands and letting it just be a resource that’s available, especially if the anxiety is keeping our eyes from closing or if we’re resting fitfully. This is made to make space that’s safe for sleeping. And so, so check it out.

Ezekiel 3:16-6:14, Hebrews 4:1-16, Psalms 104:24-35, Proverbs 26:27

Today is the 2nd day of November welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian and it is great to be here with you today as we gather around the Global Campfire and continue to move into this brand-new 11th month of the year together and take the next step forward in the Scriptures together, which will lead us, actually lead us into territory that we’re moving into in both old and new Testaments. We’ve just gotten ourselves going in the book of Ezekiel and in the letter to the Hebrews. So, that’s where we will continue forward today. We’re reading from the English Standard Version this week. Ezekiel chapter 3 verse 16 through 6 verse 14.

Commentary:

Okay. So, in the book of Hebrews today we encountered one of the most famous passages in the Scriptures and one of the most famous passages certainly in the letter to the Hebrews – “for the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joints and marrow. It exposes our in our innermost thoughts and desires.” Super famous passage. Very similar for…for we who are around the Global Campfire going through the Scriptures every day all the way through the Scriptures every year. Very similar to what we read in second Timothy where we were told “all Scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” These couple of passages, second Timothy and Hebrews today describe the why of what we’re doing, why we’re coming around this global campfire every day. We do this because the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. There isn’t a year that we come through the book of Hebrews and encounter this verse that I don’t stop and think about it even more year upon year year-over-year. The word of God is so precise that it can penetrate or cut to where soul and spirit divide. I don’t even know where that is. But what I do know is that it is at the depth or the core of our being. Perhaps it’s where our true self, our spirit and our personality or our ego meet. Wherever it is, it is core, it is essential, and it is deeper than anything else that we haven’t known to man can go. Like the joints and marrow part of that verse we can understand. So, like okay, so it can go deep inside, and we have instruments that can go where joints and marrow are, but we don’t have instruments that can go where spirit and soul meet except that we are being told that there is such an instrument if we want to call it an instrument. It’s the word of God. It can get to the core of things, the deepest depths, the place where soul and spirit meet. In some ways I think of this as the point where what is true and what we are presenting meet. Like, its right there at the depths of our core, bringing truth and challenging what is false. It’s just so few things that can even approach that. And this is one of the core reasons were showing up here every day because the word of God is one such thing. So, unless we want to just delude ourselves and make up a reality as it comes to us, then we need such a thing to challenge what is false. Otherwise, we’re going to be believing all kinds of things that are false and not even knowing it. The word of God is there to set it straight and point us in a direction that we should go. It cuts through all of the things that we present. It cuts through personality. It speaks truth into the things that we use to cope. It speaks truth to our true hopes. It speaks truth to the wounds of our lives that have shaped our story. It reaches the deepest truest part of who we are, the part made in the image of God. Like, there’s just nothing else that can that. And let’s think about it. Does us reading the word of God somehow magically reveal to God what is the truth of who we are versus what we present? Not likely. He probably already knows. And, so, if we are being cut to the place, if we have an instrument that can reach the place where soul and spirit divide who can benefit from that? God already knows. It’s for us. It can speak the truth into the deepest parts of who we truly are. This is why we come around the Global Campfire every day, brothers and sisters. This is why we are here. If there was ever a time to be led into all truth, it’s now. And, so, thanks be to God that we have this gift that does what it doe. And if we’re in this rhythm and we’re showing up every day and we know that the Bible has a way of touching everything over the course of a year. So many things get challenged, the false in us, indeed, gets challenged. And when the false gets challenged, we realize we are at another crossroads. And wisdom is there, pointing the way to go if we’ll pay attention. We need this more than ever. And, so, we should be supremely grateful not only for…for the Global Campfire, for each other, that we can go through this together but that it exists, that God gave a tangible gift in the Scriptures for us that will speak truth to us, that will lead us and guide us and that informs us who God is and what God is like and that tells us that there is a Holy Spirit that is here to be an advocate and a comforter and that will…who will lead us into all truth. And, so, let’s be grateful today for the word of God.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You deeply. We do it all the time. We thank You for Your word. We thank You for the Scriptures. We thank You for the tangible gift. We thank You for what is inside the Scriptures and how from all kinds of different angles, through all kinds of different stories and histories we are able to look through the Scriptures and find them as a mirror into our own soul, exactly what is being said here in Hebrews today. We thank You for that. There’s nothing else that can do that. And, so, Holy Spirit come lead us into all truth. Lead us deeper into Jesus. Lead us deeper into our relationship with the Scriptures. May we understand how You are leading us and what You are challenging with in us, and may we respond with humility, open hearts and open arms, we pray. In Jesus’ name, we ask. Amen.

dailyaudiobible.com is home base and that is where you can find out what’s going on around here. The alternative to that would be the Daily Audio Bible app, which you can download from whatever app store is associated with your device. Just look for Daily Audio Bible and you can download the app. It’s free and it’s the way to go if you want to kinda keep track of where you are in your progress through the Bible. So, check that out.

What is going on around here right now is the launch and release of this new resource of and by and for this community. It’s called Sleep, a contemplative journey. I’ve shared the whole story along the way. It released yesterday. And, so, to get up and sort of see what that looks like, it was very heartwarming, it made me smile, made me so proud of our community here to…to see sleep debut at number one, the number one Christian album and the number two album of all albums. And we couldn’t I guess beat…not that we were in a competition, but I guess Taylor Swift is still bigger in that world for sure, but it’s nice for us to just kinda show up there. It’s so interesting to watch how that reverberates. Now people who aren’t even necessarily believers encounter resources like this and go, wow, like I could use that and then find their way here around the Global Campfire. And, so, it’s a joy. And, so, Sleep, a contemplative journey is available wherever it is that you get your music and by that, I mean wherever you get your music that you stream on your phone or your device. All of the streaming services, have Sleep, a contemplative journey. So, iTunes, Apple music, Spotify, Tidal, wherever it is that you get your music. Check it out. It was created to make space for our souls to find rest. So, sleep is now available. So, there was Heart, a contemplative journey and now there is Sleep, a contemplative journey. And I pray that it is a resource that makes your sleep sweet and that you wake up full of hope.

If you want to partner with the Daily Audio Bible, if being around the Global Campfire and moving through the Bible each and every day in community together is life-giving to you than thank you humbly for your partnership. Community Prayer and Praise:

Good morning DAB family it’s Debbie from Queensland Australia. Just calling in after listening to October 26th. Woman in Texas, so grateful to hear your praise report and your husband is at home more now. God is great and His mercy endures forever. Everything happens for a reason. You mentioned that your Fender Bender has brought up trauma. I feel God is using this situation as an opportunity to shine light on that trauma, to bring truth love forgiveness, to orchestrate freedom. Chris Anne glory to God for bringing another dog into your life. They have such great companions. Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ name I ask the chains of both of your situations be broken, that truth, love, forgiveness are abundant in your lives. Lord, I ask that You set my sister’s free in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.

This is Taylor from Florida I’m responding on October 30th Daily Audio Bible. It’s just gonna be for two people about two people having basically the same issue. There was a gentleman who called about anger issues he was having towards his son-in-law. And then the other one was a young lady at the end who was very angry at somebody for what they had done to her. And, so, in both of those obviously you can’t __ in anger. You have to give it to the Lord. And the best way to do that is to cry out in forgiveness, that, you know, to forgive those people for what they’ve done. And it's…and it’s a confession of your mouth. It’s not…your heart will follow and it may take…it may time. But you have to just speak out, speak what you want, which is you don’t want to act out in anger, you don’t wanna act out in viloence. So, Father God I ask you to teach these two people. Both of them sounded very genuine in their…in their desire to be free and to not be bound by unforgiveness or anger. Lord, You know I’ve been there so many times and I thank You for freeing me from that, from past to angers and for wrongs done to me. So, I thank You for that Lord Jesus and we believe it in Your name. Amen.

This is Chris from York PA listening to October 30th community prayer the gentleman called in who had lost everything, had a business for three years, couldn’t catch all that you said the beginning, but I think I got the gist of it. I know I had a business for three years that failed. Wasn’t totally broke so I’m very grateful to God about that. That was back in the early 90s. And things got better. That was a really tough time, especially in my marriage, giving myself pay cuts every six months or so until we ran out of money. And it was a tough time but…but God was good and He got me back on my feet and He’ll do the same for you. Just trust in Him. People are gonna let you down but there’s jobs out there. If you are reliable and can show up and are willing to work hard you can get back on your feet. Just don’t give up. Don’t give up on God. You know, He may or may…may not have led you into that business or He did and it was to teach you something. So, try to determine from reading scripture and prayer what God was trying to teach you and it’ll get better. So, you hang in there. Don’t give up. Keep listening, keep reading your Bible and God will be there for you. Take care.

Praying for my brother in Georgia the Protector praying oh God that You would just give him Father God just the wisdom and insight Lord God that he needs Father God in dealing with his grandbabies dad Lord God and even his daughter. Lord we pray that You would Father God work on his daughter’s heart Lord God…Lord God give her clarity Lord God and where she is in her life Lord God. We pray oh God that You would bring her back Lord God to…to the church Lord God bring her back to holy and righteous living. And we pray Father God that my brother Lord God will walk in the spirit and not in the flesh Lord, that he oh Lord will put his…his daughter, his granddaughter, and even…even the Father of the baby Father on the altar and put them before You oh God and let You O Lord God take the wheel. And we just give You praise and glory for Your blessings in Jesus’ name.

Hey Daily Audio Bible family this is people on the water from Indiana and I’m calling in today for two reasons, maybe three. The first reason is to say that I love you. Secondly, I heard this gentleman call in on Sunday the last day in October and I had to rewind the message because he really caught me off guard. You talked about how you hope God brings you death and that really hurt my heart. So, I just want to lift you up. I guess you’ve been lifted up already and now you want somebody to take action and I don’t know what that looks like for you right now, but I believe in a God who is outside of the box, who is outside of the church, who is outside of himself as well. He’s also the God who can take care of you and can feed you and clothe you, not just physically but spiritually. So, I pray, and I almost trust and hope like, who Jesus was that I might here you call in again, that your life may be changed like big time. Thirdly I am… I’m dealing with some relational stuff with family and my girlfriend and friends and I’m just asking for help. So, yeah. Alright. Love you guys.

Hi everyone, it’s Christy in Kentucky. I wanted to call in and let you know that we are listening and praying along with you. Today, I wanted to call in specifically to speak to Joe the protector. Oh, my brother it’s so nice to hear your voice again. Haven’t heard from you in a long time. And I just wanted to share my story with you Joe. My husband has two sons from a previous marriage. I have no biological children. One of his children now has a child with another lady and she had three other children before our little grandbaby came into the world. When our granddaughter was first born they shared her so sweetly with us and it was something new to me because both sons had pretty much not wanted anything to do with me. We were older when we got married and they were older teenagers pretty much set in their ways and just didn’t want to share their dad. So, I was completely blessed when our granddaughter was born. So, beautiful. We had such a lovely time for the first three years but it was on her 4th birthday that things just fell apart and it is a long story but just to say that the lady that is the mother of our granddaughter turned on me viciously and we have not seen our granddaughter in three years and it is breaking our heart. But Joe all we can do is pray and put these individuals in the hands of the Lord and ask Him to bring someone into their lives that can introduce them to Him.

Ezekiel 1:1-3:15, Hebrews 3:1-19, Psalm 104:1-23, Proverbs 26:24-26

Today is the first day of November, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian and it is wonderful to be here with you around the Global Campfire. Come on in, find a place, everyone’s here, we’re altogether as we greet this brand-new month and take the next step forward in the Scriptures. Today is the 305th day of the year, of 365 days in a year, which means that we will have 60 days remaining in this year, 60 steps to complete our journey and it is a pleasure and a joy to be here to greet the 11th month of the year, together with you. A brand-new, shiny, sparkly month out in front of us.

Introduction to the Book of Ezekiel:

And as we begin this brand-new month, we have a brand-new, shiny, sparkly book to move into, the book of Ezekiel. And so, having journeyed through the prophecies of Jeremiah, all of the warnings that happened over decades and then seeing them come true and then grieving over them coming true in the book of Lamentations, and for that matter, allowing Lamentations to simply lead us into and through grief and giving language and words to things that are hard to put into words, feelings that are really, really hard to articulate adequately because language fails. Like we can say I’m really hurting right now and that can be really, really true, but that’s probably an understatement. It’s really, really difficult at times to truly put to words what…what is beyond language. And so, Lamentations gives us language and leads us through that territory, which now brings us to the threshold of a brand-new book, even as we are at the threshold of a brand-new month. This is the book of Ezekiel. And Ezekiel was well educated and he was very loyal to God, very loyal to the traditions of the people, he came from a priestly family. And like Jeremiah, he was instructed by God to use his life to symbolically act out prophecies. And Jeremiah and Ezekiel were somewhat contemporaries; Jeremiah prophesied before Ezekiel did, but he also prophesied alongside or during Ezekiel’s time. It’s just that Jeremiah and Ezekiel are kind of on the opposite ends of the story of the exile of the…of well, the Babylonian conquest of Jerusalem and the Jewish exile from Jerusalem to Babylon. So, Jeremiah is prophesying from Jerusalem, as this is happening; Ezekiel is prophesying from exile in Babylon. So, they’re both prophesying at a time that has great up upheaval, there’s international struggle, the Babylonian Empire has defeated the Assyrian Empire, the Egyptian Empire and the Babylonian Empire are clashing with each other, within the land of Israel. And we can wonder like, why, why is all the fighting happening in this particular piece of land, but it’s like whoever controlled that piece of land actually controlled the major trade routes between lands, especially to the north and east, all the way down into the continent of Africa. So, even though the territory was contentious and was fought for, a lot of times Jerusalem hadn’t been destroyed. Even though things changed hands and there was loyalties that shifted, Jerusalem hadn’t been destroyed. Like if Judah was conquered, they’d pay tribute, they’d be a vassal but their city, the capital city, the holy city of Jerusalem and God’s temple hadn’t been destroyed. In 597 BC the Babylonians defeated Jerusalem, deported its people and Ezekiel was among the first to go into exile. And Babylon set a king in Jerusalem named Zedekiah who eventually rebelled against the Babylonian Empire, even though Jeremiah was there in Jerusalem very, very clearly saying this is not a good, don’t do this, this will lead to destruction. And then in 588 BC the Babylonians did come back to Jerusalem and it took em a couple years, but a couple years later, Jerusalem was leveled to the ground. But before that happened, before Jerusalem was destroyed, Ezekiel was in exile in Babylon, prophesying of the destruction of Jerusalem. Even as Jeremiah was prophesying the same thing, from the city of Jerusalem. But after this destruction, Ezekiel’s prophecies begin to transform and they become some beautiful, hopeful messages, hope of all things being made new again, restoration. Some of the most beautiful promises of restoration that we’ll find in the Bible. And Ezekiel also has these really, really strange, to be frank, really strange imagery, really strange imagery. Almost like, special-effects cinema, kind of imagery, that aren’t unlike the visions we find in the book of Daniel, or even in the book of Revelation. So, Ezekiel, at least that portion of Ezekiel, is often used in eschatological studies, which are the study of the end times in the apocalyptic worldview. But these strange visions that Ezekiel had, definitely impacted him as a person and we’re going to read about them. And so, we can only imagine what he saw and allow it to affect us in the same way. And as with other books of prophecy, yeah, there may be words of doom and gloom on the horizon, but there’s always words of restoration and hope to follow and there’s plenty of symbolic language. And so, if we read through the book of Ezekiel and allow our hearts to be open and allow what we’re reading and the texture of it, to speak to our hearts, to simply see what it brings up in us, instead of trying to figure everything out. I’ve often explained this like the difference between greeting a morning and watching the sunrise or greeting that same morning, with that same beautiful sunrise but ignoring the sunrise in order to read the newspaper to get information. Like, the morning spoke to us in totally different ways because we were spending our time focused in totally different directions. If we’ll move through the book of Ezekiel with an open heart, like we’re watching sunrise, instead of like reading the newspaper for information, we’ve put ourselves in a good position to receive. So, with all of that said, here we are, we’re reading from the English Standard Version this week, Ezekiel chapter 1 verse 1 through 3 verse 15.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word. We thank You for bringing us into this brand-new month, the 11th month of the year already. We thank You for bringing us into this brand-new territory, the book of Ezekiel. We open our hearts to You, we love You, we adore You, we worship You, we humble ourselves before You. We ask for Your leadership and guidance in our lives and of course, You’re not withholding from us, we’re often not paying attention, help us pay attention, as it’s now time to begin to consider how this year is going to end. And we want to finish strong. And so, we will have to listen and follow Your leadership and stay in lockstep together as we, day-by-day, step-by-step, continue through the journey of the word of God. So, come Holy Spirit, lead us into all truth. We pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

So, today is the day, we’ve talked about it for a couple of weeks and so what is immediate on our radar, what is going on around here is that today, is release day for this brand-new resource that is coming into the world today and coming into the community today, it’s called Sleep, A Contemplative Journey. And we’ve done a bunch of talking about it, the way that it was created, the why that it was created, what it is supposed to do for us in creating space for rest and sleep and calm. And it’s November friends and so, this, this is like we’re out in front of it right now. But before this month is over, we will be, we will be engaging with the busiest time and seasons of our year. And so, this is out in front of it. It is releasing here, out in front of it all so that we have this resource, that when things get a little bit crazy, when we get a little bit too tired and were not thinking clear and we’re not thinking straight. We…we have space that we can go into that will bring calm and rest and bring the Scriptures washing over us as we calm our spirits down or meditate or rest, go to sleep. So, it is available now, wherever you get your music. And I am, I’ve been waiting for this day. I’ve been waiting for this day for a long time and so I am really excited for this to kind of land out there and be put to use as a resource around the Global Campfire. One more resource for the journey forward, one more way to remind ourselves that just living our lives with the pedal to the metal on 10, all of the time is not healthy or helpful. That rest is a part of the story, it’s part of the story of creation, it’s part of the story of the Bible, it’s a part of the story of humanity, it’s a necessity for us to be at our best. And this is the time of the year that we need, we need to be at our best. And so, Sleep, A Contemplative Journey, is now available wherever it is that you get your music. And I look forward to hearing your experiences.

Prayer and Encouragements:

Hi family, it’s Makayla from Glosser. This is just an update really. I can’t remember if I told you guys but my dad and his partner Sue, got married after ten years. They got married earlier this year. And so, you know, those connections that were there on a kind of like, have that official title of like, stepmother, stepsister, stepbrother, step-nephew and all that. But anyway, I would really appreciate prayer for my nephew Taylor. He is 16, he is struggling so much with his mental health. You know, that whole, what’s the point, everything I do, you know, I ruin everyone’s lives I touch and all that sort of stuff. And he’s not ready to hear or accept that that is not true. You and I both know that that is not true at all. You know, I can tell him and tell him and tell him and all I can do is, you know, love him, spend time with him and show him how much he’s valued. And the same, you know, with my stepsister Kate, his mom. Or his mother of choice, very, very complicated but you know, God knows. But yeah, I definitely really value your prayers for Kate and for Taylor and for Arthur and my step-mum, Sue, my dad, Mark. And for Taylor’s dad Jay, there’s a lot of stuff going on. God knows, and yeah, thank you guys. Bye.

Hey, my name is Jonathan Stanfield, this is the first time I’ve ever called. And I just, I’m turning 20 today, it’s a big day for me. And I’m super excited to just ask for prayer about how I, I really just need direction in my life. And I just love to ask ya’ll for prayer about direction for a job and yeah. Thank you.

Good morning DABers, this Is Rockhound from Georgia. And this morning, I Just wanted to call in, hopefully with a word of encouragement. After listening to Brian’s commentary and talking about not only Lamentations but Philemon today, I just wanted to call and encourage my fellow listeners and believers and brothers and sisters in Christ. That if you have some wounds that really need to be healed and you’ve been walking away from those things, you’ve been avoiding them for so long. I just want to encourage you to allow the Lord to walk through those things with you. I had a situation in my life where at least 50 years, things were buried and hidden and avoided and unspoken. And finally, the Lord led me to face that. Not only myself but some others as well. And though, it was probably one of the hardest things in my life to walk through, the Lord brought me out of it with such joy and with such freedom, amazing freedom. And I just to encourage you today, that when you walk through those things, you will be able to dance. So, dance with the Lord today when you walk through those awful, awful situations. Dance with Him because that’s what He wants you to do. I love you DABers. Brian, thank you so much for your amazing gift of DAB.

Hello DABers, this is Emily of Jim in Texas and Emily in Cartef but wait, you’ve been praying for over a year for Jim to get the spouse visa so we could be together in Cartef and God answered our prayers. And so, on the 15th of November my sweetheart arrives, and I just want to give thanks to God and thank this community for praying. And ask you to pray for our reunion and as we seek the Lord for where He wants us to be, what He wants us to be doing together and all those crazy details. As we seek to serve Him as a couple. Hallelujah! And even as I say that I keep thinking about these couples like the man whose been married four years and his wife wants out and the other man whose, who was abusive and says he’s wrecked his marriage. I’m telling you guys; God restores marriages and does amazing things in marriages. So, I want to pray for you, I want to pray for everyone who is separated from their spouse and wants to be back together with them. That God would restore these relationships, in the name of Jesus. Lord, where the enemy has stolen, You restore those years, Lord God. Lord, I pray that the spouses who have been left, would seek You, would become the men and women of God, that their spouses fell in love with, and Lord I pray, that You would bring them back, bring those spouses back, Lord. Thank You Jesus. Thank You, that You are a miracle working God. And thank You that my beloved sweetheart is coming back. Yeah.

Hello DABers, this is Kay from Ohio. I am calling to pray for a sister in Christ, I think she called on September the 24th. And towards the end, she’s talking in a whisper. And I prayed for you, and I stopped it, and I prayed, and I stopped it. I know what you feel like. Hmmm, God you heard every word she said and everything she left out. Encourage her heart and know that you are in each and every prayer, each and every tear, each and every sigh, each and every scream, each and every stomp, the slamming of the doors, by her. You see her and none of this is catching You by surprise. Even a month later. God, encourage her heart and to know that she’s asking for prayer and that she’ll be open for Your response. And if You tell her to walk away, she will say okay Lord. If You say stay, you will say ok Lord. But that she would trust You in everything. This is a hard decision. This is a hard time to wait. Because sometimes we get fed up and we’re ready to go and God says not yet. So, my sister, I pray that you would trust in the Lord and know that His ways are not our ways. And His thoughts are not our thoughts. But He is God, the Supreme One. But He’s loving and He’s kind and He will not leave you comfortless. Trust in Him. Wait on His decision. Stay in prayer. Stay in consecration at all times, no matter what it looks like, no matter what it feels like. God is still working. I love you, my sister. Be blessed.

Lamentations 4:1-5:22, Hebrew 2:1-18, Psalms 103:1-22, Proverbs 26:23

Today is the 31st of October welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I can’t believe it. It’s the 31st day of October. So, this concludes our 10th month of a 12-month journey. And what a journey it has been. And on our journey through the Scriptures, we have made several transitions over the last couple of days. We’ve moved through and into new territory, which is where we find ourselves now. In the Old Testament we’re in the book of Lamentations. In the New Testament we have just begun the book of Hebrews, where we will camp out for little bit. And, so, let’s dive in. We’re reading from the English Standard Version this week. Today, Lamentations, chapters 4 and 5.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word. We thank You for bringing us here to the very end of 10 months journeying through Your word together. We thank You for all the different transitions we’ve moved through over the last few days through Titus, and Philemon and now the book of Hebrews moving out of the book of Jeremiah and into and through and completing today the book of Lamentations. And we are looking forward to starting a brand-new month, the 11th month of the year tomorrow in brand-new territory in the Old Testament as we prepare to navigate through the book of Ezekiel. And, so, we thank You for where we are in this year and all that You have taught us from all different facets of the Scriptures. And we take this moment to just be grateful. 10 months every day step-by-step day by day through Your Scriptures has brought us here to this place in life and in community. And, so, Lord, we ask that You continue to lead us into all truth. Lead us forward. Reveal the narrow path that leads to life, that we may walk in it. And guide our steps on the pathways of righteousness, we pray. In the name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.

It’s called sleep, a contemplative journey and it is a resource similar to the previous recording like this that was called Heart, a contemplative journey, which is available now. This resource is made to create space and a large enough sonic space, as large of a sonic space as we have technology to create, this was created in spatial audio. And, so, very much looking forward to releasing this and for it to be a resource that creates space for rest and calm in your life. And, so, this will release tomorrow wherever it is that you get your music. You can preorder it today and it will show up tomorrow. And that’s it for today, and that’s it for this month. We have concluded 10 months together every single day and it has brought us to this point, and we will begin to turn into the home stretch as we begin a new month tomorrow. And as we begin that new month, I mentioned this before, like things start speeding up. Like, it won’t feel like that tomorrow but before November is over, we’ll be in full Christmas swing and the busiest most wonderful time of year. It’s a joyous time but it can also be a stressful time and that ultimately affects the way that we rest. And we want to be present, we want to be rested, we want to be alert, we want to be awake. And, so, looking forward to it very much.

I’m Brian I love you and I will be waiting for you here tomorrow.

Lamentations 3:1-66, Hebrews 1:1-14, Psalm 102:1-28, Proverbs 26:21-22

Today is the 30th day of October, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian and it is wonderful to be here with you today, as we greet a brand-new, shiny week. A brand-new week to move through and into and walk with God in. It’s all out in front of us. It’s a story to tell and we will tell it with our thoughts, words and deeds. So, it is great to be here with you to greet a brand-new week. We’re not only greeting a brand-new week; we will be greeting a brand-new territory in the Scriptures as we approach the New Testament today. We began the book of Lamentations yesterday. We talked about that; we will continue that forward. We read in its entirety, Paul’s final letter, known as Philemon, yesterday. So, that will lead us to the opening chapters of the book of Hebrews in the New Testament, when we get there. And we’ll talk about that, when we get there. But first we’ll read from the English Standard Version this week, Lamentations 3.

Introduction to the Book of Hebrews:

Okay so, as we were talking about at the beginning, we’re moving into new territory. We’ve moved rapidly through some transitions and in the New Testament we read the entire letter of Philemon yesterday, which brings us to the book of Hebrews, which is also a letter and one of the most compelling letters that encourage a believer to keep the faith, to stay true. That we’re going to find in the entire New Testament, but Hebrews is still a bit of an anomaly because it’s not really clear the…the pedigree, the origins, the author. The apostle Paul’s been credited with authorship at different points in time but nearly all biblical scholars agree that Paul did not write this, that it’s very unlikely that Paul wrote this. One thing that we do know from reading it, whoever wrote Hebrews was a great writer, a great communicator, clearly educated person, a person who clearly understood the Jewish way, Judaism, clearly understood the Hebrew Scriptures. So, there are many candidates that have been put forward over thousands of years. A couple that sort of rise to the top could be Barnabas, maybe even Apollos but even saying that that’s conjecture, nobody’s certain. What is certain is that whoever wrote the letter to Hebrews, to the Hebrews had the authority to write that kind of a letter like, didn’t just write the letter and kind of put it out there and hope for the best like, this person wrote specifically and wrote in a way that would be understood and that would be appreciated, and that would be cared for with the utmost respect. And we know that happened because we still have this letter. Paul’s son in the faith Timothy, and we remember we read first Timothy and second Timothy, so, Paul son in the faith, Timothy, is mentioned in the letter to the Hebrews. And so, Hebrews is probably contemporary with Paul’s writings, like it could have been written a little bit later because Timothy was younger than Paul and as tradition tells us, Paul was executed in Rome. So, Timothy still had life before him so it could have been a little bit after Paul’s life. It’s clear in the letter that persecution of those, and marginalization of those who believed in Jesus, was happening inside the Jewish community. Stereotyping of Christian believers as strange, backward, odd, weird people had definitely begun. And because this had begun, some believers were, just kind of fading into the woodwork, shrinking back, hiding what they believed, trying to avoid the marginalization and the stereotyping. While others just simply abandoned the faith and return to traditional Judaism. The writer of Hebrews observed this happening and stepped forward to encourage people not to shrink back, not to abandon, not hide, but instead to stay faithful to Jesus and not go back to their former ways. So, Hebrews encourages us to hold fast to the hope that we do have in Jesus and not waiver. And finally, as we prepare to get going in Hebrews, something that we will probably mention a number of times as we move through the letter to the Hebrews is this, and if we can remember this, we will pretty well remember the context that were in. Hebrews was written to Hebrews and so Hebrews is written to a Jewish audience. So, Hebrews brings the context of the Jewish community that Jesus did his ministry in, forward for us in such a way that if we can remember that Hebrews is written to Hebrews we are given of rich tapestry, a beautiful clear lens to look through, as we’re moving through Hebrews about Jesus, His work and what He means to a Jewish believer. And context for how big of a deal that is that we kind of miss has Gentiles having never grown up in the Hebrew culture. And so, with that we begin Hebrews chapter 1.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word, we love You, we worship You, we thank You for bringing us into this brand-new, shiny week. And here we are, one day remaining in this month and so, we’ll be moving into a shiny new month, as we move through this shiny new week, and we know that you will lead us. Our hope is in You. Our trust is in You. There is no other place to put our trust. There is no other place to put our hope, our hope is in You alone. Come Holy Spirit and lead us in the way that we should go. We pray in the name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.

Prayer and Encouragements:

Hey fellow DABers, Joe the Protector from Georgia. Sorry I hadn’t called in a while, just been very busy. Been listening daily still though, lifting up the prayers at the end. Got a prayer in mind though I need. My daughter that had a child, 3 nearly 4 years ago, she had decided to leave the family and pull the baby out from our house. So, now my wife and I, we’re not allowed to be around the baby right now. She’s totally turned against us and become defiant and the baby’s dad, who thinks he’s a man but not acting like a man, is doing things the wrong way. Family, I need prayers over my thoughts about him because there’s some pretty violent, wild and wicked thoughts, running through my head about, about what I want to do to this young man. And I need help in that regard, in that area. We need help to bring our grandchild back, back into our stable family and the lifestyle she was used to. And so, just be in prayer for that, for me and my wife, just this situation. Thanks, fellow DABers. Love ya’ll.

Hello, this is Ms. Carolyn, and it is October the 26th and I want to reach out to a Woman in Texas. I understand what you’re going through my sister, I too have mornings that I just don’t want to get out of bed. I had back surgery and was abandoned by my husband. Had to call on my 86-year-old parents to come help take care of me when I could barely get out of bed. I lost my 16-year-old best buddy, my pet and the same week, passed out and fell and injured both my ankles and my knees. And I tell you, my sister, there is recovery. It sounds like you work in health care as I do too and you know, hormonal levels can get out of whack, when a lot of things are going on. So, I pray that you reach out to your primary care physician for some help. I believe in prayer, and I believe in medicine. God gave that to us. And I want to lift you up in prayer and I shall pray for you daily, my sister. As you continue to pray for yourself. One thing that helps me get out of bed is that I focus on helping others. And then, do a little something for yourself. Father God, I lift up my sister right now. I claim healing in the name of Jesus, Father. Have her just step-out on faith. That knowing that You will give her recovery and give her …

Hi, Daily Audio Bible, huge fan, been listening on the side here. I have a prayer request. Can you please just pray to God to just not wake me up in the morning and to wipe my existence from the history books. Everything I have done for three years has failed. I’ve applied to over 300 hundred jobs, God led me to start my own company, I did, and everything I did for my company has failed within the 3 years. Now, I have no money to my name, I’ve become a burden to my family, I’ve reached out to every church and every Christian I can believe in and all I receive is either crickets or advice that I’ve did something wrong. I have yet to receive any support and encouragement from any so-called Christians, that call themselves. I also give to the Daily Audio Bible, but my money has run out. So, you know, I’ve reach disaster at every single turn, and I am just done. I’m not upset or angry, I’m just done. I’ve prayed to God every day, put on my daily armor everyday and..

Hello dabby dab, DABers, this is Trixalina. I’m calling cause I could really use some prayer. I have built up, like a singles church dinner and it’s been really, really, a wonderful thing, a blessing. There’s the four of us and then we invite a few more people to join our group. And it’s just wonderful fellowship and it’s been really great. But someone in the group has really just absolutely betrayed me and I’m really hurt, I’m bitter and I’m angry. And I’m trying to go to the Lord about this and I’m forgiving them and it’s very difficult. And it’s like, step-by-step and I just really pray and if ya’ll would help pray with me about, may the Lord soften my heart and help me to move on and perhaps be able to build that, the dinners back up again. And to have that again. I just, right now, I want nothing to do with that person. I’m just so angry at them. And this is bigger than me and I need the Lord to help me through this. And I’m having a hard time, if maybe He could help put it back together and heal my heart. That would be really, really great cause I know that the enemy is definitely working, and I just could use prayer. Thank you. Have a good day.

Lamentations 1:1-2:22, Philemon 1:1-25, Psalms 101:1-8, Proverbs 26:20

Today is the 29th day of October, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian and it is great to be here with you as we take the next step forward together all around the Global Campfire here. We have totally new territory to move into today, both in the old and the new Testaments. So, we have some ground cover. This is one of the rare days on our journey through the Scriptures where we come to brand-new books or letters in old and New Testament on the same day. So, as we move into the Old Testament portion of our reading today we will remember that we concluded the book of Jeremiah yesterday, which leads us now into the book of Lamentations

Introduction to Lamentations:

And to kind of get ourselves into the right mindset here let’s just consider that whatever nation that we live in. Like one of the major cities…think about your capital city, a major city in the land that you live in. So, here in the United States there are a bunch of big cities that have millions of people in them. Think of anyone of them and think that it is destroyed. Like not some buildings, but like the city is destroyed and the survivors are fleeing and confused, and nobody knows what to do. Imagine that. But we can bring it more immediate and just consider wars that are occurring on the earth today and people whose homes have been destroyed and lives have been torn apart. And like we can see on the news what it looks like for blocks and blocks of a city to just be leveled. Think about the aftermath of that, the years on down the line and the way that what happened is processed through the eyes of a historian, but also processed through the eyes of the artist. Like I can remember when I was kid there was this song. I cannot remember how…I think we probably…in elementary school we studied it or something because it was like an oldie when I was a kid. But it was a song about the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald and that this was a boat, a big ship that sank in Lake Superior up in Michigan waters. And that was a tragedy, and the crew was lost, but as things reverberated into history, right? And there’s this song and like the artist community speaks forth. And, so, there’s this song that holds this whole story together of tragedy and loss. The book of Lamentations that we are moving into now is a book composed of five poems. And they’re sad abundance of lament. They’re lamenting over the fall and destruction of Jerusalem, a city, a city that was the icon of a people, a representative of the people and their identity, a capital city destroyed. And we have read about that destruction. In fact, even as we concluded the book of Jeremiah we’re reading about the destruction, the Babylonian invasion and the capture and destruction of the city of Jerusalem and the carrying off of the people into exile. And the more you think about it and put yourself in the position of the Jewish people then you realize just how deep of a thing this is. This isn’t the destruction of a suburb. This is the destruction of the capital city. This is the destruction of the Temple of the most-high God. The city is on fire. Everything seems gray and overcast because of the ash in the air. Dead bodies are strewn everywhere. Blood is on the walls and running down the streets. In the Hebrew. this book Lamentations is called Icah. And this word means how. Like, how? How could this happen? Through the other scriptures that we read we know that it happened, and we know how it happened. And technically speaking Babylonian’s finally broke through the wall of Jerusalem and flooded into the city and destroyed it. And there is archaeological evidence of the conquest of the Babylonians that can be found in Jerusalem still until today. How the people got into this position spiritually, how this could happen is so much of what we’ve read in the prophecies of Jeremiah. Jeremiah warned people for decades that this…that this was coming, that impending doom would eventually arrive if they didn’t turn from their wickedness. And now as we turn the page out of Jeremiah and into Lamentations it happened. The prophecies came true. It happened. Though, how could this happen. Like, how do you put words to that? The book of limitations doesn’t tell us who wrote the book of Lamentations, at least inside the text. The tradition is that Jeremiah wrote Lamentations being known as the weeping prophet, which is one of the reasons why Lamentations follows Jeremiah. But like so many things there’s no way to know for sure. There’s just compiling of evidence and gathering it together and making the best hypothesis. One thing that most scholars agree on, though, is that whoever did write Lamentations was probably an eyewitness to the destruction of the holy city of Jerusalem. In history this happen in 586 BC. The Babylonians invaded Judah and eventually conquered and completely leveled the city of Jerusalem. And, so, Lamentations was probably written pretty quickly after during that reverberation as things go out into history. And the historians look at things and try to figure out how and what happened when the artists use metaphor to describe emotions that just can’t be put into words. In Jewish culture today on the ninth day of Ov Lamentations is read and it’s read on a day of fasting that commemorates the fall of Jerusalem. And reading each of the poems in the book of Lamentations gives this backdrop. Not only to look back at…at like the history of a people, but also to offer personal reflection and offer words giving language to loss and lament. And this is a topic. Like being sad, lamenting, embracing the feeling of it. That’s not something that we really are programmed to do. In fact, it’s what we’re programmed to avoid. It’s not just in Christian culture. It’s in culture in general. Let’s avoid what’s hard and exalts what is easy, and good and pleasurable. Lamenting isn’t easy. It’s just that grief touches everybody. Like, eventually grief touches us and hurts and it’s painful and it’s hard to put into words and it feels disorienting and like a slog, but also if we’ve gone through grief we know that kind of purges us as well. It simplifies things. It reminds us of what actually is important. I kind of washes away the superficial, it kind of gets us down to the rock, the bedrock of our life and it is intensely painful, but it also is freeing, because when we have reached the depths of our sadness eventually, we begin to realize there is hope for the future. And lamenting his language to that suffering. And putting words to something that is hard to put into words helps us to release, to begin to open our hands and to begin to think about newness of life even in the midst of the pain. And, so, that is the territory that we are heading into as we move into the book of Lamentations. And, so, we can open ourselves to it. This is where the Bible is leading us. This is where we are now. And although these kinds of emotions are not the kinds of emotions we dwell or definitely seek out, they come to us. And when we don’t try to deflect or disassociate, when we try to allow them to come, allow them to be what they are, invite God into what we’re feeling, allow things like the book of Lamentations to give language to what we’re feeling then we begin to realize that as painful as it may be, we are moving forward, new life will come. And, so, with that we begin. Lamentations, chapters 1 and 2.

Introduction to Philemon:

Okay. So, we have talked about and begun the book of Lamentations but we also have new territory in the New Testament to enter today. This will be the final letter of the apostle Paul. And, so, at this point, we will leave the apostle Paul and move forward in the New Testament, but we’ve have been traveling with Paul since we finished the book of Acts. So, for a while now. This final letter of the apostle Paul is called Philemon and we’re gonna read…well…it’s a letter. First of all, it’s a letter and we’ll read the whole letter today, which means we have some new territory to move into in the New Testament tomorrow, but Philemon is a short personal letter to a person named Philemon who was a leader in the church at Colossae. Based on what’s in the letter, it’s likely that Philemon was one of the more wealthy and influential people in the church at Colossae. In the letter we read of a congregation that meets in his house. Philemon had a servant and the servant’s name was Onesimus and Onesimus ran away from Philemon, probably stealing from Philemon on his way out. That would’ve been an offense very severely punishable, maybe even by death. And Onesimus likely fled to Rome. He ended up in Rome but he likely fled to Rome. That’s a populous city full of culture and all kinds of people coming in and all kinds of people going out. And, so, that would’ve been a good place to disappear. But instead of disappearing Onesimus ran into the apostle Paul who was under house arrest awaiting his trial. And, so, as things turned out Onesimus the runaway slave comes into contact with the apostle Paul and under Paul’s instruction becomes a follower of Jesus and then Onesimus served Paul and his needs while he was in Rome. And, so, then sometime later Paul wrote a letter to the church and Colossae, right? Colossians as we know it. And the intention was to send Tychicus on the journey to hand deliver the letter to the church at Colossae. And as he wrote Colossians he also writes this personal note to Philemon and sends Onesimus back with Tychicus back to Colossae and Onesimus back to his master, Philemon, which would’ve been a great step of faith for the runaway Onesimus because that could be life or death. But under Paul’s leadership Onesimus takes this step of faith and leaves his life in God’s hands and does the right thing. And, so, Paul writes a brief letter to Philemon that packs a punch because it shows us the importance of not only forgiveness but also shows that no matter what kind of authority, we have over somebody else, if they’re a believer in the Lord, then we are to treat them as a brother or sister. And this final letter of the apostle Paul in the New Testament also shows us that indeed God does work all things together for those who love Him. And, so, we begin and will read in its entirety Philemon.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word. And we have moved in and even through brand-new territory today. And, so, as we engage with the book of Lamentations, we invite Your Holy Spirit. It is not easy to face the pain that we suffer inside emotionally. It’s hard to give it language. It’s something that we try to avoid. But as the Scriptures have led us into this territory, we embrace this territory and invite Your Holy Spirit to speak to us. Lead us into wounds that we still carry with us. We invite You into those places and ask for Your healing there. And as we have just moved through the final letter of the apostle Paul, we not only take to heart what Philemon has to teach us but we also take the heart that we were moving forward and away from the voice of the apostle Paul. And, so, we give it the honor that it is due. We spent a lot of weeks together with Paul, but we also look forward to all that You have yet to teach us through the Scriptures. And, so, come Holy Spirit, we pray. In the name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.

dailyaudiobible.com, that’s home base, that is the website, it’s where you find out what’s going on around here. You can also do that with the Daily Audio Bible app, which you can download free from whatever app store is associated with your smart device, whether that be tablet or phone. And, so, check that out.

And what is going on around here is that we are mere days away from the release of a brand-new resource for the community. We’ve been talking about it for I guess a week and a half. It’s called Sleep, a contemplative journey. And it is exactly that. It’s kinda self-explanatory. That’s what it’s for, is for providing space, an atmosphere of rest, an atmosphere that will not only lull us into calm and sleep and rest, but also kind of just play over us as we rest and dream. And, so, looking forward to…to this…to this very much. It was created out of necessity. It was created out my own need for rest and space for that. And it’s interesting, when we create spaces for things then we go into that space we kind of know what it’s for. And, so, creating space for sleep and rest was the intention here. And I am very much looking forward to that being released. You can preorder it now wherever it is that you get your music. I have mentioned…and it’s not like a preference…well I guess it is kind of a preference thing, but I’m not saying like one is…one distribution outlet is better than another. Like if you’re Spotify user or Amazon music or whatever, it’s everywhere. And there are a bunch of different distributors around the world as well. And I don’t even know all their names. I use iTunes. I use Apple music. And, so, you would go to the iTunes store and just search for Sleep, a contemplative journey or my name Brian Hardin. You’ll find it with no problem there. And I assume that that will be similar wherever it is that you are looking. And, so, certainly check this out. Very much excited for Tuesday to come. I can’t wait for this to enter into the world. I spent a bunch of time talking about how just creating this in Dolby Atmos, creating this in spatial audio so that it’s very enveloping. Like, I’m really looking forward to this getting out there. And, so, check it out.

If you want to partner with the Daily Audio Bible, if being around the Global Campfire every day and having space for God’s word created for us as we gather each day, if that is life-giving to you than thank you profoundly for your partnership. We certainly couldn’t do this if we weren’t in this together. And, so, thank you. There is a link on the homepage at dailyaudiobible.com. If you’re using the app, you can press the Give button in the upper right-hand corner, or the mailing address is PO Box 1996 Spring Hill Tennessee 37174.

And, as always, if you have a prayer request or encouragement, you can hit the Hotline button in the app. That’s the little red button up at the top or you can dial 877-942-4253.

And that’s it for today. I’m Brian I love you and I’ll be waiting for you here tomorrow.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hey this is Blessed to Serve in Georgia and I’m actually calling it and praying for Karen, the young lady who found out today, this is October 25th, that she has been diagnosed with cancer. Karen, I…my heart breaks for you and so many around the world like you that get kind of news every day. And it just shocks us when we get news like this, but it never shocks our Savior. It never shocks God. And, so, my prayer is that he would choose Lord right now to bring instant healing for you Father. The next time you go to a doctor visit they can’t find the cancer, they don’t know what it is, and that they are astounded and that you would proclaim loudly for the world to hear that God chose to heal you. And then I also pray that if God chooses to use the physicians or He chooses to use medicines, that you would do the same exact thing. And then lastly if God chooses to bring you eventually to Him and that is not our desire, but if that is His desire, that you would have a peace, that your family would have a comfort and assurance to know that you are face to face, you would be face to face with the Creator the one that loves you more than that we could ever love you. And then what we look at is painful and as sad your…you would be able to tell us don’t feel sorry for me, feel grateful for me, feel envious of me for the fact that I am with my savior. For your family I pray for great healing and blessings and comfort as you all grew through this together. And again my number one prayer request Karen would be that you’re totally healed and that God would be glorified through all of this. You’re not alone.

Good morning DAB family this is June in Maryland calling in to pray for Karen. I heard your per request today for your prognosis of cancer and my heart just broke for you and I’m praying for you. So, let’s pray. Holy Spirit, I pray God for a miraculous healing over Karen’s body as she goes through this…this trial…this trial. This is just a trial. This is just a phase. God, we pray God for miraculous healing over your body. We pray that you be there to raise your two beautiful children and see your children’s children into the next generation and even into the third generation. We pray that God give you all the wisdom strength and love around you as you go through this trial. What God cannot do does not exist. What God cannot do does not exist. What God cannot do does not exist. So, you believe, you keep calling in, you keep praying, you keep the faith, you pray. When you wake up in the middle of the night you wake up and you pray, when you’re driving and you think about it you pray, anytime you think about it you pray, anytime you feel fear about it you pray. You pray Karen because God is there for you. God is with you. He loves you and God never fails. Everyone have a blessed day.

Hi everyone, this is Toni from Germany, and this is for regarding the reading and message from October 25th especially Brian’s comment about it didn’t feel fair the manner in Paul died. And you talked about endurance. And this resonated with me in part because the summer the Lord had me go through a discernment process as to whether I would stay in Germany to do my ministry or do it back in the states. And he made it clear that whatever I decided that would really be final. And I made the decision that it would be here. And I knew though in making that decision in the trials of life I wouldn’t have the support of family with the exception like emails or phone calls and that even I would likely die alone. But my father has been a role model in this regard. During the beginning of the pandemic, he and my mom were in the nursing home and then my mom died, and the nursing home was in lock down. And my father had to go through the grieving process without the support of family. No one could visit him. The only contact was really with the iPad where I connected and in mass with him once a week. It was beautiful. I remember asking him, dad you feel the presence of the Lord, right? And he said yes. The Lord is appearing to you isn’t he? He is. So, for all of us who have to make these kinds of decisions or in these kinds of situations the Lord is with us. And we will say it’s worth it. God bless.

Hello, my DAB family this is Mark Street from Sydney Australia today’s Tuesday the 25th of October and I’m just ringing in because I’ve been listening to this week’s community prayer and I heard Blind Tony calling in saying that he wants some prayers for his prostate cancer. And I don’t know if I have the words to say…so let me just pray. Heavenly father we offer Blind Tony up to You. Lord he’s such an important part of our community here. He gives his love and Your love through him to all of us Lord. And selfishly I suppose we all want to still to be here to spread Your message to us Lord and his wonderful poetry and music and his personality Lord. We know that You can heal him. Please heal him Lord so that he can spread Your message more through this community in Your name I pray Amen. Love you Blind Tony and I’m sure everybody else will be calling in for you too. Mark Street from Sydney Australia. Bye.

Jeremiah 51:54-52:34, Titus 3:1-15, Psalm 100:1-5, Proverbs 26:18-19

Today is the 28th day of October, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. And we’re kind of rounding the corner on this month and heading toward the end. Crazy as it is, we’ll be in the 11th month of the year, very soon, days from now. And we’ll get there, we’ll get there like we get everywhere step-by-step, day-by-day. And today is the 28th day of October, so that leads us to pick up where we left off, which leads us back into the book of Jeremiah. We’re reading from the New Living Translation this week and today, Jeremiah chapter 51 verse 54 through 52 verse 34.

Prayer:

Father, we love You. We worship You, we thank You for Your word, we thank You for bringing us together around the Global Campfire in community, to move through the Scriptures together, we thank You for the indelible mark that they make on us. Thank You for the way that they challenge everything about us and invite our growth and maturity and we ask for, that we be wise, mature sons and daughters of Your kingdom, representing You well, bringing a smile to her face. We love You. Our lives mean nothing without You. Our lives wouldn’t exist without You. So, we adore You and we thank You for another day, another week, another month to spend together in community, centered around the Scriptures, this unspeakably good gift that You have given us to guide and direct our paths. So, Holy Spirit, lead and guide us in the way of righteousness. We pray in the name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.

dailyaudiobible.com, that’s home base, that’s where you can find out what’s happening around here. The Daily Audio Bible app will allow you to do that as well, put it right in the palm of your hand. So, search for Daily Audio Bible at the App Store that is connected to your device, and you should be able to find it, no problem. And then you can find out what’s going on around here in the palm of your hand, as well as take the journey through the Bible in a year in a very well-designed way that helps you keep track of where you’re going and congratulate you on your accomplishments, as we move our way through the different sections of the Bible so, check it out.

As far as what’s going on around here, couple days from now on Tuesday, which will be the first day of November, a brand-new resource will be releasing here in the community, it’s called Sleep, A Contemplative Journey and it is a musical and spoken journey, intended to create space for rest, to create an atmosphere where we can, where our minds can begin to wind down, slow down and our spirits can feel at ease and at peace and a space has been created for us to drift off into beautiful sleep. And we, like there’s never a time that we don’t need that, we’re human beings are we’re made this way, we need sleep, and we fight sleep, and we don’t get good rest all the time because of anxieties or pressures of life that we have to deal with. This is created to kind of enter into that space and make a new space. Kind of like what we do here, around the Global Campfire every day, we come here, drag in the cares of life around our ankles and slumping our shoulders down and we leave them at the door. Like, we come in here around the Global Campfire together and we’re all in this together and we’re here in a safe place to allow the Scriptures to wash into our lives. Sleep, A Contemplative Journey is allowing that pattern and creating space and an atmosphere for rest. So, really looking forward to that coming out on Tuesday. You can preorder it now wherever it is that you get your music and certainly check it out.

If you want to partner with the Daily Audio Bible, if the mission here to bring the spoken word of God read fresh every day and offered to anyone who might listen, anywhere on this planet, any time of day or night and to build community around that rhythm, what we lovingly know as the Global Campfire, so that when on a solitary journey, we’re in this together, not only in our lives but in the Scriptures. If that has been life-giving to you then thank you deeply for your partnership. There is a link on the homepage at dailyaudiobible.com. If you’re using the app, you can press the Give button in the upper right-hand corner or the mailing address is P.O. Box 1996 Springhill, Tennessee 37174.

And as always, if you have a prayer request or encouragement, you can hit the Hotline button in the app, that would be the little red button up at the top or you can dial 877-942-4253.

And that’s it for today, I’m Brian, I love you and I will be waiting for you here, tomorrow.

Prayer and Encouragements:

Hey DAB family, this is Kathy from Western New York. It’s been a little while since I’ve called in. My daughter Natalie was trying some other treatments, she is the girl in her 20s who, who’s brain has slipped to the back of her skull. Those other treatments, the conservative ones, have not been working. And so, her dad and I are going with her next week to meet with a neurosurgeon and to set a date for her to have her surgery. So, I ask DAB family, that you would be please keep us in your prayers. Pray for this process to be anointed and I will let DAB family know when the surgery is slatted, so that you guys can be praying. I’m praying for all of you, I’m listening and hearing your hearts cries. And know that I am praying for you. And I thank you so much for praying for my family and for me. My son is struggling, as you can imagine. He’s her little brother, his name is Evan. So, I ask you to pray for my family and especially for Natalie, who is facing this risky surgery. She’s been very brave and she’s hanging onto the Lord, and I praise Jesus, this is not the path we would want but we are praising in grabbing onto his joy. Because we believe in His word and promises. So, thank you so much DAB family. I’m with you guys every day, don’t know what I would do without you. Love you all. Thank you.

Good morning Daily Audio Bible family. This is Consider It Pure Joy in Ohio. What a morning to be in the word, what a morning to hear prayer requests around bullying and encouragement. For so many difficult issues and I always struggle sometimes to appropriately empathize with some of the requests, cause they’re just so foreign to my experiences. But today, I believe it was Tarren, prayed, in her 30s, diagnosed breast cancer, or diagnosed cancer, didn’t specify what kind. And two small children. Tarren, I feel you; I don’t know exactly what you’re going through. But my wife was 34 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer and our children were 7 and 5. Incredibly difficult time, incredibly difficult news. Man did the Lord show himself in that season of our life. And He has a plan, and you will find out just how amazing He is, if you allow Him to work in this situation. I know it’s crazy to think but I absolutely would consider that time in our life to be a blessing because it solidified so many things for my wife and I. So, praying for you sister. I love you, God Bless. Consider it Pure Joy.

Hey DAB family, this is Your Sister Ashley from California. And I just have to share with you the most beautiful thing that happened. I don’t know if you already know, I posted it the other day, but I don’t know if it’s up there yet. So, I was getting coffee this morning, and going back to the hospital with Jackson. Ya’ll, I know God is already working because He is working, He is doing His thing with the medicine and the doctors all the people that are taking care of him. But I was in Starbucks and the barista had the most beautiful faith and she came, and she brought me my coffee and she prayed with me for Jackson. And guys, it is, it blessed my socks off. And then there was a lady waiting in line for her drink and she came, and she just blessed me, and she just confirmed she prayed in agreement with me. So, God is so good. He’s so faithful and He loves us so much. I just wanted to share that so, I pray that, I will be praying along with everybody. And I love you DAB family. Bye.

This is Wide Eyed with Wonder from Texas, calling on October 25th for Al, the 9th grader. Al, we have been lifting you up with prayer in our family. My 8th grader, Ethen, has been praying for you. Just want to let you know that you are an inspiration to so many. In praying for you the story of Joseph, came to my mind, in the way that he was harmed, wrongfully harmed and it was meant for ill but God turned that into something that actually positioned him to walk into the calling that God had set on his life. And I pray that over you. I pray protection over your mind, your heart and your emotions in this time. And that you would grow in ways that you’ve never experienced before in your relationship with Christ. And that you would be walking into all that He has placed before you. That the greatness of your calling and your purpose and design. In Jesus name. Amen.

Hi, Sparky this is for you, this is Delights in Me. I want to encourage you. I am a mom of three and I have done some pretty disgusting things in my eyes. In the worlds eyes I’m probably an angel but I just want to encourage you that God takes all things and works them for good. And I think it’s okay that your daughter sees you make a mistake. What’s important is that she sees how you bounce from it. I think that I trust that God’s gonna use that as an important lesson for her. So, I’m praying Lord, please help Sparky to have wisdom in this situation. And his daughter to be receptive to this. And I pray that You help Sparky to make better choices when it comes to work and people that are around him and that he interacts with that don’t know You and don’t know Your ways. And Lord, I pray that You give, You help Sparky to give himself forgiveness and help him to look forward and not behind and to press forward. Thank You Jesus. In Jesus name, Amen.

Jeremiah 51:1-53, Titus 2:1-15, Psalms 99:1-9, Proverbs 26:17

Today is the 27th day of October welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I’m Brian it’s great to be here with you today as we gather and move forward a step at a time a day at a time through the Scriptures. And our step forward today will lead us back into the book of Jeremiah. So, we’re reading from the New Living Translation this week. Today Jeremiah chapter 51 verses 1 through 53.

Commentary:

Okay. So, let’s talk about meddling and then let’s talk about dogs and then let’s talk about ourselves. So, first, meddling. Nobody likes a meddler, typically, like the person that gets involved in all kinds of things that they don’t belong involved in or inserts themselves into anything that is none of their business or is continually having…having a running commentary about anything and everything, a person who really really really really really really likes their opinions and often assumes that everybody else likes their opinion just as much as they do. And, so, they offer it unsolicited about everything. Meddler’s, people inserting themselves into the stew, changing the recipe. I don't…I mean, there probably are people in the world that enjoy being meddled with but I don’t know any personally. I don’t believe I’ve ever met anybody that likes that. Typically a kind response to a meddler is you should mind your own business or tend to your own problems, but that would be a kind response. A lot of times when a person that’s being meddled with, they get angry and so the response isn’t kind, right? If I wanted your involvement or if I wanted your opinion I would’ve asked for it. Now let’s talk about dogs. I have a dog. I have a couple dogs. I have a dog that I like a lot though. Her name is Lucy and I love my dog. Actually, she loves me. She’s our family dog. We love her. She loves us. She’s devoted us and we’re devoted to her and care for her and she’s got personality. She’ll sit at the door and wait for us to come home with her little butt wagging, and she’ll go and get toys and bring them out to play with. And if she gets scolded you can see the look in her face. She’s feeling ashamed and she shows us her personality all the time. You can be playing with her and she can start growling. Like she can grab a piece of rope and I can grab the other end of the rope and shake her head around and she can try to pull the rope like we’re playing tug-of-war and growl. I can get down on the ground with her and wrestle with her and play with her. She can pretend like she’s gonna bite me, right? Like I can put my hand in her mouth and she can be growling at me but I know she’s playing. I know she’s not gonna bite me. If I sneak up on her, though like she’s laying on the ground and she’s got her head in her paws and she’s just kinda laying there and she’s fallen asleep and if I just kinda sneak up on her and grab her by the ear’s she’s gonna freak out. She might actually bite me. She’s not gonna exactly know what’s going on and she might retaliate. She might feel like she needs to defend herself. Before she can figure out what’s going on she might bite me. And now let’s talk about ourselves. And I quote from the book of Proverbs today. “Interfering in someone else’s argument is as foolish as yanking on a dog’s ears.” In other words, inserting ourselves into something that is none of our business, meddling in someone else’s argument, someone else’s business is as foolish is sneaking up on a dog while it’s asleep, even if it’s a friendly dog, and grabbing it by the ears. And we can imagine…I mean many of us have dogs and if we sneak up on them and grab their ears, we might get bitten. It would be foolish to do that, just as it is foolish to insert ourselves in someone else’s story, in someone else’s argument that is none of our business. And if we would take some time to pause and reflect upon the times which we have meddled and inserted ourselves into something that isn’t our business, typically, that doesn’t work out well. Typically, we get bitten or get snapped at. And if we make this a habit in our lives than we probably feel misunderstood. But we’re getting snapped at a lot and it’s affecting our lives because we are inserting ourselves where we do not belong. And if the wisdom of the Proverbs is true, which it is that gives us opportunity to pause and reflect upon our behaviors realizing that we cause a lot of the conflict by inserting ourselves into other people’s conflict uninvited. And, so to heed the voice of wisdom today we have to be able to observe ourselves, which is so much of the story, watching what we do and then understanding why. So, like, why do we stick our noses where they don’t belong? Why do we feel the compulsion to have a running commentary on everything, even things that are non-none of our business, that aren’t our argument? There could be any number of reasons for why we do the things that we do, but at some point we will have to observe what we’re doing and then be able to ask ourselves, how will sticking my nose in this, like how will inserting myself in this help anything? Am I being instructed? Am I being led or am I just a busybody in this scenario? How is this going to affect my relationship with the people involved? How is this going to affect my relationship with the Lord? How is me getting involved in this going to affect God’s kingdom? If we can take a moment and reflect upon those things before we get involved and if the answer is like there’s no redeeming value for me offering my opinion or stirring up the pot here then maybe we shouldn’t. Maybe we shouldn’t. Probably we shouldn’t. Actually, if we’re listening to the voice of wisdom from the book of Proverbs, we shouldn’t. It’s like grabbing an unsuspecting dog by the ears. Some things for us to ponder today.

Prayer:

Holy Spirit, we invite you into that, especially the part about observing ourselves before we do something as opposed to reflecting back on how we shouldn’t have done that. We need your wisdom and guidance. We need to understand that everything we do is a witness for you as your children, as ambassadors for you, our king and your kingdom. We represent you. We often don’t give that the gravity that it deserves but getting involved in something that you have not invited us to be involved in is not a recipe that works out well in almost any scenario. And, so, this is important. We stir up a lot of trouble that doesn’t need to be there. We get involved in things that have nothing to do with us. We waste time and energy that could be well spent in other areas. And, so, thank you for this wisdom. It’s a corrective wisdom but thank you for this wisdom because we heed this wisdom than what it gives us back is energy and time and relationships that aren’t stirred up. So, come Holy Spirit into this very, very practical wisdom that we must heed. We pray this in the precious and mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

What is going on around here is that we are mere days away from a new resource being released into the community here. And this resource is called Sleep, a contemplative journey. And it is a musical journey. It is a journey with verses being kind of spoken about rest and calm and hope and then musical passages to create space for calming down, winding down, falling into a deep and restorative sleep. And I am…well…I am deeply excited for this to release into the community. I am deeply excited to hear your sleep stories. I mean, I won’t be redundant and share stories I’ve already shared about this project, but this was a project that I needed as well. And, so, I’m just so excited that there is a space for this in the community here and also very excited that…well…this was an intentional time of year to release this because we are kind of turning ourselves into the very busiest…it’s the most wonderful time of the year, but it is also kind of the most busy time of the year. And sleep and…and restorative sleep, rest, that…that can be challenged and that can be hard to come by at times. And, so, just to have space for sleeping. That is…well…that’s the goal. And, so, I’m excited for this to release into the world. And, so, you can preorder Sleep, a contemplative journey now, wherever it is that you get your music. Community Prayer and Praise:

Hello this is Delight in Me and I just want to pray for September. You called in saying that you feel lost. And I just want to encourage you that you’re not lost to God. He knows exactly where you are and He’s right with you and I wanna pray. Lord, I pray that You helped September come to feel Your presence. Help him to know that there’s nothing that he can do, that everything has been done by You because You love him so deeply. You love him with an everlasting love and You…You long to just have him turn to You and just place his trust in You. So, September, I encourage you to just rest in the knowledge that God loves you and there’s not anything that you can do except to just have relationship with Him. And I do. I love you. I do I pray that God will make His presence so known in a… I understand what you’re saying and I…I feel like I’ve been there. As a pastor’s daughter I think it can be confusing. For me personally I got caught up in being on display in the church I think and that that confused me. Anyway, time is ticking…

What’s up Daily Audio Bible. I’m Deforest from out here in Louisiana and I wanted to ask for a prayer request. This is my first time doing this, but I’ve been listening for about three or four years. And I recently pretty much lost my family. I was supposed to get married October 1st. Today is October 23rd. And I have a problem with women and sex. And that’s not really the full extent of what broke up my family. But I’m just…I’m tired of battling this. I am so tired of battling it. And I and the __. And I feel like Paul. I do what I don’t want to do. Even though I know I shouldn’t do it I still do it anyway. So, I’m just asking for some prayers so I can start my own ministry and spread the word of God. But this sexual…desires that I have…I’ve had have held me back from doing it because I don’t wanna be a hypocrite or I don’t know just not be prepared. So, I wanna settle down, have a family and to live in my purpose and just get myself together. This has been going on for way too many years and I’ve been programmed to think and act a certain way and now it’s time for me to break it and I'm…only God can break it because I can’t do it. I’ve tried myself too many times. So, pray for me.

Hey DAB family this is your sister Ashley from California and wow it has been a while the last few days. Brian I just want to say thank you for this platform because without it I don’t know how I’d be inviting the word into my situation besides prayer. Y'all, my son Jackson who I called in and you’re praying for for issues with school. You guys, God has been so good because we found out that he had a 11 by 5 by 5 mass in his chest and abdomen, which it’s anterior but it’s like near his heart, it’s pressing down on his heart and he is been diagnosed with AL a leukemia and he started getting treatment for it on Friday and he is in the best hands. We’re UCLA here in Los Angeles. And guys God has just shown up and the best ways and it is so beautiful. I may not be grateful for this situation but I’m definitely grateful in it. But I could really use your prayers everybody. If you could please lift the doctors and the medical team up, my family, me. God, just He’s making a way. And I know His ways are higher than mine and I just know that He will give me peace here. And, so, I’m trying to thrive here and not to just survive here. So, if you all could lift us up, I would really appreciate it. DAB family you mean the world to me. And I’m praying with you as I listen. And I know that the Lord is here, and I know He has His angels fighting on my behalf and I am so grateful. But please pray for us. I love you all. I’ll talk to you soon. Bye.

Hey y'all this is beloved on the beach. It is early on a Monday morning. I’m many weeks behind but I just had to stop the prayer request. I think there’s still one more to be played from October 12th and just got stopped in my tracks listening to a man, UPS driver, a brother in Christ who is or has now at this point faced a really hard day Lord driving through South Dakota I think he said and it bringing up trauma from his past. And I just wanted to say and point out if you hadn’t noticed it already that at 8 years old was the last time you saw him and you now have an 8-year-old son yourself and that God is so poetically writing a redemption story for you, my brother. And I am just so proud of you have as a sister in Christ following far away listening to this prayer request in this vulnerability that you modeled for all of us especially Christian men or men in general in this world that you showed a vulnerability. You spoke truth and trauma and shared your tears and then you begged for prayer and community to come alongside of you in that Lord. And so…I mean to come alongside the Lord with you in that. And I am just so encouraged and I am going to continue and pray for you and I just know that healing is coming that some has already come. And we praise You for that your Lord that You continue with the ripples of healing. We love you.

Hey, this message is for September. I just heard your call in this morning. This is Anne in the Trenches and I just wanted to say I heard so many people pray for you in your struggle with faith and I appreciate your honesty about the __. You should just drop, you know, drop it off or whatever and that that’s not necessarily helpful. But I’m hoping whatever I say this morning will be. We’ll see. Firstly, I think there’s different groups of Christians, right? And I used to be terrified that it wasn’t doing enough, or I wasn’t enough. And, so, I would end up in a place of weeping and gnashing of teeth and…or when I was a little kid, I remember I was left home alone a lot and I just thought for sure that the rapture had happened and that I wasn’t taken. Anyways, so just know that this doubt and fear that you have, you’re not alone in it. But I wanted to add in, you said something about God not coming to your rescue. You didn’t say those exact words, but you might not see God do it, but I just watched and listened to so many of His people coming to your rescue. And, so, I just wanted to say, yeah, He will chase you down. He just did and it was beautiful to watch. But to be honest I just remember thinking man people are really bothered by this. Like so many people called in to pray for this guy who said he didn’t know if he was a believer. And, so, I just want you to know that your prayer was actually already answered, and the Lord will send His people. Not everything is a miracle that God swoops in and does Himself. Quite often He sends His people…

Jeremiah 49:23-50:46, Titus 1:1-16, Psalm 97:1-98:9, Proverbs 26:13-16

Today is the 26th day of October, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I’m Brian and it’s great to be here with you as we gather around the Global Campfire and find a place and move forward together. Our next step forward will lead us back into the book of Jeremiah in the Old Testament. When we get to the New Testament, we have come to the pastoral epistle of Titus, and we will talk about that when we get there. But first, we’re reading from the New Living Translation this week, Jeremiah chapter 49 verse 23 through 50 verse 46.

Introduction to the Book of Titus:

Okay, so yesterday we finished second Timothy, thought to be the final writing of Paul’s life and we talked about that and tried to give it the honor that it was due and that now brings us today to the book of Titus. So, we’re like reading Paul’s goodbye letter, but we’re still with Paul as we move into the third of the three pastoral letters, which are first and second Timothy and Titus. And these are pastoral letters because they are written to sons in the faith, who are now leading congregations that were planted by the apostle Paul. So, Titus was an early convert, of the apostle Paul’s ministry and remained in ministry with Paul, after that. And he became a trusted ministry partner. He was, he was trusted enough to…to go with Paul and Barnabas to Jerusalem, to attend the Jerusalem Council. And the Jerusalem Council, we talked about aplenty when we were in the book of Acts because that’s where it’s outlined. This is the Council where church leaders are coming together, making a like, an irreversible decision, as it turns out, about how a person is included in the community of faith in Jesus Christ; like do they need to convert to Judaism as a religion and then adhere to the Mosaic Law, including circumcision and all of the other requirements and then be accepted into the community of Jesus, or can they just come to Jesus. Titus was a Gentile, and he was able to be at this Council and that actually mattered, according to the writings of the apostle Paul. The irony is that Titus isn’t mentioned in the book of Acts, we know Titus through Paul’s letters, but getting back to the pastoral epistles. The scenario, the likely scenario and we talked about this before, there’s a ton of conjecture, and it’s not just wild guesses, just to reconstruct history is a scientific process and you reach some places where you don’t have certain evidence and so, you have to make the best guess as you continue to move forward piecing things together. And so, the scenario probably is that Paul was arrested after he appealed to Caesar, but probably was released for a while and was able to travel again. And he traveled to the island of Crete, in order to share about Jesus, a place that had not yet heard the message of the good news. And Cretans were known for their carnality. And so, when Paul comes and brings us new message that hadn’t been heard before, faith springs up. And then Paul left Titus on the island of Crete, to begin to form the congregation, the church on the island of Crete and to kind of navigate leadership in all of the different kind of cultural things that would come against this newly believing congregation. Paul trusted Titus to do this work. Paul had trusted Titus to do all kinds of different types of work, including carrying letters into difficult situations among congregations. So, Paul and Titus do this work in Crete. Paul departs Crete, sends this letter, this pastoral epistle, back to Titus on the island of Crete, probably around the same time that he was writing letters to Timothy. So, by the time this letter does arrive with Titus, on the island of Crete, it would serve a couple of purposes. One, it would be an encouragement from a spiritual father, but also, this would be Paul putting Paul in writing, like his instructions to Titus would be in writing. Paul would be giving Titus authority in the church, in writing. So, if Titus had to make an unpopular decision and people were like Paul would never say we should do these things this way, than Titus would have this letter that would essentially back him up. Because Titus would have work to do, he would need to appoint a pastor and he would need to appoint deacons, he would need to raise up leaders that had respect. So, as we’re going through the letter to Titus here, we’re going to see some of the criteria that we’ve seen in first Timothy. We’ll see some of the criteria for appointing people into leadership in God’s church, this being in written form, Titus would be able to show the Cretans, like this is what Paul says the criteria is, this is how we raise up leaders in the church and he would have this letter to the back that up. And as we said we we’re going through the, well, first Timothy, when we we’re going to first Timothy and there is criteria given there. It mentions like this is where so much criteria for church leadership comes from during the ordination process. So, if you’ve ever sought ordination or been ordained then probably pretty difficult that you didn’t pass through first Timothy and Titus, along the way. And so, with all of that, let’s begin. Titus chapter 1.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word, we love You, Lord, we thank You for the Scriptures and their guidance in our lives and the way that they inform everything, if were paying attention. And so, we thank You, as we continue our journey through Jeremiah now, as we’re in the letter to Titus, Holy Spirit, come, as we ask for just about every day, lead us into all truth. We’ve come here to seek the truth; we’ve come here to seek the right way of life and we’ve come here to allow the Scriptures to reveal what You are like to us. So, Holy Spirit, come and lead us into all truth, as we surrender and submit ourselves to You. We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Prayer and Encouragements:

Good morning, Daily Audio Bible. This is October the 21st and this is Chris-Ann calling back in. And I am just asking for prayer still, for my marriage and reconciliation with my husband. We’ve been separated for 9 years and 4 years ago we went to court and the Lord intervened and answered prayer of stopping the divorce. And removed the lady out of my husband’s life that he was involved with. And I’m asking again that the Lord and asking for prayers and prayer warriors that the Lord would intervene and would stop this divorce from happening again. That it would not be finalized. We’ve been married for over 32 years; we have one son. And it has just broken my heart in the 9 years I have had so many ups and downs in my life. I never expected to be in the position that I’m in. And while I’ve had some good moments, there’s been some bad moments. This past year, 2022 has been extremely stressful. I had a pet that I dearly loved, had for 17 years and he recently passed away. But the Lord brought another little dog back into my life. It’s just been very difficult being by myself. And I have tried to be really faithful in my prayers. And I am asking for prayer warriors out there to pray for my marriage. And that the Lord would just intervene again. And that He would stop this divorce and that He would reconcile my husband and I to one another. That He would change my husband. I am trusting and believing that this will happen, and I just need all my prayer warriors out there to be praying for this. Thank you and have a good day.

Hey neighbors, it’s Lisa the Encourager. I’m calling today to encourage you in prayer and also just wanted to tell you or share a little story. So, since my mom passed, I definitely have come closer and my attention has grown closer to eternity and you know, what that looks like and what it will be like. And just thinking about my mom in heaven and all of those things. So, one of the things that I also was thinking about is, I always try to, when I start my prayers at home, I try to give God glory for something new, you know that I haven’t thought about, whether that’s food or my health or my kids. Or just try to, each day, try to think of something different and say God, you know, thank You for this. You know, show that true appreciation. One of the things I, I’ve thought about in my life is one day, we’re all going to see God and we’re all gonna have that moment when we see Him and it’s gonna be so, I can’t, I’m sure it’s you know, obviously take your breath away and you just wanna cry and get on your knees and just you know, glorify Him and just, you know, bow down and be like, all the things I should have done, you know, differently. So, I was just trying to bring front and center that to my mind, you know. Think about that day today. Think about what it would be like if God was right there in front of you, what would you do differently today. So, let’s all pray that we will be mindful of that together. Dear Lord God, thank You so much for Your majestic love that You have for us. Thank You for being there and God help us to think about …

Hey fam, it’s Sparky. I’ve got a couple guys here and they were gonna say hi, real quick. Hi, it’s Aiden and Grant. I’m doing good with football, it’s treating me good, I’m playing a lot. So, I’m liking it a lot and schools doing good. Met a lot of friends, so yeah. Yeah, it’s good for me. I met a lot of new friends and I got to come visit which I was really excited. We got to come see my friends and get to hang out. Yeah, DAB fam, I just wanted to tell em to tell ya’ll hello. Cause I told them ya’ll been praying real hard for them. And they’re spreading the love of God up there. So, ya’ll wanna tell them bye? Bye. Bye. Love you guys, thank you for your prayer.

For all the insanity that You’ve already brought me safely through
As well as the many mercies that I still see You every day making new
My spirit cries out, Abba, Father, thank You for loving me so
For holding me tightly and not letting go
For refusing to let anyone or anything snatch me out of Your hand
For surrounding me with love and enabling me to stand
In the face of adversity, heartbreak and stress
Stupidity, rebellion and all the rest of my mess
For taking me out of slavery and setting me free
For giving me a taste of new life in Thee
And even though most of my peers are now all dead
I’ve found myself entertaining visions of new life still ahead
Though at times I’ve asked myself why me
Even in blindness it’s pretty clear to see
That it’s only Your grace, mercy, love and favor shielding me
That has not only kept me alive
But it’s also provided the impetus that has allowed me to thrive
To become more than I ever thought I would be
And I want to thank You Father for loving me
Healer, Deliverer, Sustainer
For me it is a no-brainer
Giving me blessings day after day
As well as new victories all along the way
Blindtony1016@gmail.com I’d like to give a shout out to Sally Young and Tony Parton, I haven’t heard from you in a while. Know you’re often in my thoughts and daily in my prayers. And once again Brian and the Hardin Family, thank you for this wonderful podcast for God’s Holy Spirit to flow. Keep it flowing ya’ll. Alright, bye bye.

Good morning, this is A Woman in Texas. I’d like to thank everybody who prayed for me back in the early parts of the year. My husband was transferred to Arizona, and he was gone 128 days. The Lord had orchestrated it through actually the father of one of my patients, had an opportunity that was perfect for my husband. So, he’s back home, although it’s still a traveling job and I haven’t seen him in 12 days. Cause he’s been in the oil field. But he’s home, he’s here in Texas, he’s not in Arizona anymore. And I’d like to thank everyone for praying for me. I have another prayer request to lift up. I’ve, I was recently in a little fender bender car accident. It did put my car out of commission which all is well. But it’s brought up trauma just from other past car accidents and there’s just, there’s other trauma there that I can feel. And even though the Lord is providing, and all is well, it’s still hard to get out of bed. I’ve cancelled work a lot. I’ve slept all day for like over a week straight. My accident was about a month ago. I could just use your prayers. I know there is so much good and so much to be hopeful and positive about but it’s, it’s really hard to get out of bed. And I would appreciate your prayers. I put a smile on my face but it’s still, it’s hard. I’m sorry, thank you.

Jeremiah 48:1-49:22, 2 Timothy 4:1-22, Psalms 95:1-96:13, Proverbs 26:9-12

Today is the 25th day of October, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I’m Brian it is wonderful to be here with you today as we take the next step forward in our journey that leads us through the entire Bible in an entire year. Here we are on the 25th day of October. So, we kind of know where we are in the year which gives us a good sense of where we are in the Bible. And specifically, where we are in the Bible is in the book of Jeremiah, at least in the Old Testament, and we will conclude the book of Jeremiah during this week and then move forward from there, but we’re not there yet. Today we’re reading from the New Living Translation. Jeremiah chapter 48 verse 1 through 49 verse 22.

Commentary:

Okay. So, we concluded second Timothy today and by many thought to be the final writings of the apostle Paul. We’re not done with the apostle Paul in the New Testament. We have a couple of smaller letters that we’ll finish up before moving forward away from the apostle Paul, but there is certainly a melancholy that exists in second Timothy. We can hear it in the reading, and we can hear an urgency in the letter. And when we reacquaint ourselves with the idea that Paul is in prison, will be judged, the judgment will be life or death, the judgment is likely to be death, which is what it turned out to be, and that there aren’t a lot of people left around Paul. It’s like he gave his wife for this message and in the end, he was mostly alone. And that is so similar to the way Jesus experienced His last days as well. And Paul gives Timothy some charges just in case they don’t get to see each other again Timothy’s supposed to keep his head, keep a clear mind, be ready to share the gospel regardless of what comes against him, which is an example that Paul had modeled for Timothy. And if this opposition turns in the persecution, then Timothy was to face it without fear. And if the people that Timothy was leading abandoned him in search of somebody else to give them…well…giver their itching ears what they wanted to hear, then Timothy was to keep telling the truth regardless of what happened, to continue to be a pastor to those under his care. And then Paul told Timothy, “as for me”, quoting from second Timothy, “as for me, my life has already been poured out as an offering to God. The time of my death is near. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful.” I know that’s a super popular very very famous passage in the Scriptures. It just always feels so melancholy to me when we come by this territory. It is a like a pit in my stomach even as I’m talking about it. I think honestly it just…it’s probably because it doesn’t seem fair. And that’s what it is. If I’m just being honest, it doesn’t seem fair. We have examples like Jesus or example like the apostle Paul who devote themselves to bringing freedom to people who only end up dead, but they ended up alone before they ended up dead. And I’m in no way saying Jesus didn’t rise. But that’s what we do, right? We just skip over that part and get to the resurrection part, not that Jesus actually had to die alone first, not that Paul…yes her received the crown of life that he was looking for. We believe that. But he still had to sit in the dungeon awaiting his own execution first. And for what? To try to help people? That just feels like injustice. Nothing about it looks like victory, which is one of the scandals of the gospel. It’s that you win by losing. You gain life by giving it away. And yet just kind of listening through what Paul has to say through each of his letters what we realize is that Paul is certainly passionate and very forthright and very direct. He’s all of these things indeed. But underneath it all it seems to have been the honor of Paul’s life to serve Jesus, to consider everything that he learned and understood as filthy rags to lose it all in order to attain Christ. Paul had fought the good fight and finished the race. He did everything he could do and kept the faith. This doesn’t seem like victory based on the cultures that we live in, right? Dominance seems like victory. Crushing your opponent seems like victory. And, so, Paul, he’s the one that gets crushed. Jesus gets crushed. This doesn’t seem like victory, which makes us step back and go, what is victory? And then we begin to realize it really is all backwards. It really is an upside-down world, that the truth really is, if we were able to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength and love each other as we love ourselves, then we would stand up and be right side right it can, then we would be back to where we were intended to be. We would humble ourselves and know we are not the sovereign and know we are not in control and not even want to be in control, having surrendered control, having surrendered to the Lordship of Jesus Christ in our lives. And one of the things that we will notice is that Paul endured. He endured his entire ministry and he endured until the end. He believed what he was saying enough to die for what he was saying and did. He followed the example of Jesus and endured until the end. This idea of enduring is certainly all throughout the writings of the apostle Paul, but it is all throughout the New Testament. It’s so ironic that our Savior endured and that people like the apostle Paul endured. And as we continue to read through the rest of the New Testament, we’re going to find out that we’re being encouraged whether it be by James or Peter or Paul that enduring is an important piece of the equation. And it’s like the one thing that subtly inside of our culture and even inside of our own mindset that we think that we get to avoid because of Jesus. Like somehow Jesus makes everything work together for our good, so that we won’t have to endure what is difficult and hard, and maybe even painful. It’s only that that’s not the story that’s in the Bible. All of these stories include endurance and hardship and difficulty. And none of it is purposeless, it is all about advancing a message forward into humanity that there is a better way. In fact, not just a better way. There is a way at all to do this. We were made in a certain way, a way that prefers the other, a way that loves our neighbor as ourselves, a way that we shoulder each other’s burdens, we endure together. And, so, as we leave second Timothy, like I said we still have a couple short letters from the apostle Paul. So, where not leaving Paul just yet, but we will be within days. So, as we’re considering this life, the life of a person who wrote more of the New Testament that’s been handed down to us than any other author, that endurance actually is a category. And even as I’m sitting here talking about this, I know this, and I still don’t like it. I don’t want to endure. It’s hard. It’s painful, it wears us down. It does all kinds of things that are difficult. Like it challenges pride and every other thing that’s selfish within us when we have to endure something by humbling ourselves and walking through it. And yet this is the story of all of the people in the New Testament. This is the story of church history even. And, so, why would endurance not ever touch us? And why do we act like toddlers when it does? We have it better than any of the people in the New Testament had it and we’re carrying the same story forward with us. And, so, hardship, difficulty, pain, endurance are all part of the story. How we embrace that part of the story makes all of the difference. Has it been an honor to serve Jesus? Are we fortunate to be able to join with Him in His suffering in enduring on behalf of and for the sake of others? Or is this whole religion about what we can get and how quickly we can get it? To honor the idea of this being Paul’s final letter and the melancholy that’s in it, like don’t forget my coat that I loaned to him, don’t forget my papers, try to get here before winter, everybody has abandoned me. We’re going to have to consider endurance. It’s gonna have to be an actual category because it reveals for us where our true allegiance lies. And, so, in honoring Paul as we prepare to leave Paul behind for this particular journey through the Scriptures let’s honor Paul by considering endurance in our own lives and what it means to us and how it is we process that when it comes our way.

Prayer:

Holy Spirit, come. We invite You into that. If…if endurance could be a word lifted from our vocabulary and taken away from the human experience, we’d probably sign up immediately. We would rather not go through hard times. We would rather not go through the disruption of it. And yet, in the Scriptures, we see it is nearly unavoidable and has great purpose. And, so, it’s something that we don’t want to sign up for, but it’s something we have to be willing to follow You into wherever You are going for whatever purpose You are going there. And, so, some things are going to have to change in our hearts. And, so, as we approach this and as we approach what’s coming next in the New Testament, as we continue this journey where endurance becomes more and more a part of the story may we see that. May we see how our forebears endured and how they processed, and may we look at our own lives and see just how well we actually have it. We thank You God for Your love. We thank You Jesus for Your sacrifice. Thank You, Holy Spirit, for Your comfort. Lead us into all truth, we pray. In the name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.

The Sleep album that we’ve been talking about for about a week is on the radar now. One week from today the album will become available everywhere. And I have once again been surprised by the response and the enthusiasm…enthusiasm and excitement for this project. And I’m praying over this project, that it…that it does what it is intended to do and bring us into a place of rest and provide an atmosphere for sleep, but also for calm, just a…a space that we can go into when things are chaotic or when we can’t sleep and find rest. And, so, the album Sleep, a contemplative journey will release one week from today. You can preorder it now wherever it is that you get your music. I don’t know all the different ways because there are a lot of different worldwide global distribution outlets for music. And, so, I don’t like know them all. I do know like Apple music because that’s what I use or iTunes. And you have to go to the iTunes store to preorder the album. If you go to the iTunes store and search for Sleep, a contemplative journey or search for Brian Hardin or whatever you’ll find it no problem. It has been sitting in the top three pre-ordered albums of all of the music. So, it’s easy enough to find there. And I’m sure there are similar ways in whatever service that it is that you use to get your music. And, so, certainly check it out. Really really excited about this project and…and hopefully what it will do for us, which is what I have already said, to bring us rest. And, so, check it out.
