Today is the 22nd day of May, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian. It is wonderful to be here with you today, as we gather around the Global Campfire and take the next step forward together.

Introduction to the Book of Second Samuel:

We’re kind of flipping the page here, as we get going today, because we concluded the book of First Samuel yesterday. And the way that the book of First Samuel ends, is that David and his men are going into battle against Israel. They’re going into battle as Philistines, when they are sent home, not allowed to go into battle because the Philistines are worried that during the battle David and his men will turn on the Philistines and that will cement him in the good graces of Israel’s King and David will hand a lot of dead Philistines over to Israel in the process. So, they won’t let them go into battle. They won’t let them go in the battle. They send them home to Ziklag, the town that they were given. When they get to Ziklag, they find that the Amalekites have raided, all throughout the region, and have burned their town down and taken everything away. And so, David and his men go in pursuit and are able to recover everything. Meanwhile, though, there was a battle brewing up in the north, a battle that David was sent away from, a battle that subsequently occurred and the Philistines were victorious, and in the process of being victorious, they were successful in killing Israel’s first king, King Saul and his sons the princes of Israel: Jonathan, Abinadab and Milkashua. And, of course, Jonathan and David were deeply, deeply close friends. David doesn’t know all of this has happened yet, he’s had his hands full because they got back, and their town was burned, and they had to deal with an issue of their own and recovering their families. So, David doesn’t know that Saul is dead or that his friend Jonathan is dead. As we turn the page now and prepare to begin Second Samuel our focus will become upon David, whereas First Samuel led us through the life and times of King Saul and introduced us to David, and how he became famous, and how Saul became so deeply paranoid about David. But now, as we move into Second Samuel we’ll learn about David and we will see a sharp contrast, not only in character, but in leadership. And we can assume that Saul’s dead so, David becomes the king, and that’s that, it just happens by default. But David isn’t just automatically going to become king of anything, he’s not part of a royal line. And so, it’s not going to happen just like that. David will first become king of Judah, which is the tribe that he’s from, and he will set up a governance and establish kingdom in Judah, in the city of Hebron, where he will rule. But it will take some time for him to become the king of Israel because Saul does have a remaining son, his name Ishbosheth, and he will be declared the king of Israel in his father’s place. So, it will take some time and we will read through the story and see how it happens that David becomes the king of all Israel. But with that said, let’s open the book to the first chapter of Second Samuel and today we will read chapter 1 verse 1 through 2 verse 11.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word and we thank You for this new territory that we move into in the book of Second Samuel, as we begin to focus our attention on the story of Israel’s second King David, a man after your own heart. And we have this opportunity to begin to contrast the character of Saul, the character of David and we find characteristics of ourselves in each of these people. Holy Spirit, lead us. We too want to be men and women after your own heart. And so, as we learn about this person, open our hearts to what You have for us, may we have eyes to see and ears to hear we pray, in Jesus name. Amen.

Prayer and Encouragements:

Hello, my DAB Family, this is Jamie in New Jersey, Standing on the Word of God. I humbly ask you to please pray with me. Dear Father in Heaven, renew our strength and fill us with Your supernatural power to overcome each obstacle on our paths. Help us to serve You in Your strength today, to be strong according to Your word. Nothing is too difficult for You, nothing we ask for today is beyond Your reach or Your power. Thank You, that our needs and desires are known to You before we ask them. You see our weaknesses and You alone can provide us with the strength and the power to overcome whatever comes our way. Help us not to turn from Your word and to follow the path You have set before us. We want to act in the strength of Your wisdom wherever we go. Grant us the strength that comes from knowing Your word. May it be the source of wisdom and success in our lives each day. We pray in Jesus name. Amen. Thank you for praying with me, my brothers and sisters. May we never forget that God’s word is truth. I love you all. Have a good night.

Hello, DAB Family, this is Diana from Florida. And I want to pray for the man who lost his son at the age of 24 years old. And I just want to say, I’m so sorry for your loss. My brother committed suicide in 1992, he was also 24. And you’re right when you say that the grief doesn’t end because the service ends. Every now and again you will mourn. And even though I didn’t know my brother too well, I was three when he committed suicide, I still mourn the fact that I never knew him, as well as, I would have loved to. So, let me pray. Dear Jesus, I thank You so much for this man’s heart, to pray for all the young men and women who have come of age during the pandemic. I pray that You meet him and his family at their point of need right now, oh Lord God, as they mourn the loss of their son. I pray in the name of Jesus that You would comfort them. For Your word promises that Blessed are those who mourn for they will be comforted. May You comfort them with the people around, with the walk that he took, I hope he takes more and more walks, that he would experience You in a way that he hasn’t before. And Father, in the name of Jesus, I pray that You would uplift and encourage him as he mourns the loss of his son.

Hey, family, I have a real request this morning for prayer. I used to be part of a cult and I took my younger sisters along and eventually after a couple of years, God took me out of that place. And took one of my sisters out even before I left. But one of my sisters CeCe, she’s still there. And you know, I’m praying, I don’t think I’ve been praying enough. I thought maybe after she’s out Un’y she’ll leave but it seems like she’s being more sucked in and become more committed. And I received a message from her this morning, letting me know that she’s in a serious relationship and I just started to panic because marriage just adds an extra layer of complexity to it. If she marries there, it’s even more unlikely that she’ll come out. So, I just want to ask you to pray that I will have the strength and diligence to keep praying for her. That God will show her the truth and the way. And if it’s His desire for her to come out with this person that she’s in the relationship with, that they’ll come out into the truth together. And if He wants to separate them by you know, His mighty hand, He will separate the one who is trying to keep her from the truth in truly knowing him. So, please pray for CeCe and …

Hey, DAB Family, this is John from Indiana. A message for the father who on May 16th had a memorial remembering his sons’ precious life. Ten years ago, I had to do the same thing to my son, who took his life as well. And so, this father, I want you to know that you are being prayed for and your family. And you’ll make it through this. You will, you will receive the blessing of the Father in heaven, who lost His son as well. He will be with you; He will be with all members of your family. And He will carry you through this in ways that will astonish you. He is faithful and He is good, and He has called your son home for sovereign purposes. And He’ll use this event in your life and your family’s life and all his friends’ lives to draw them to the truth of His love and of His power. And I just want you to know brother that I’ve made it to the other side of this and you will too. He is good. Please reach out to me if you can my personal email is chooselifenow41@gmail.com. I love you.
