Exodus 4:1-5:21

Moses Is Given Miraculous Signs

4 But Moses responded, “What if they do not believe me and do not listen to my voice, but instead they say, ‘The Lord has not appeared to you’?”

²So the Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?”

He said, “A staff.”

³He said, “Throw it on the ground.”

Moses threw it on the ground, and it became a snake, so he ran away from it.

⁴The Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand and take it by the tail.”

He stretched out his hand and took hold of it, and it became a staff in his hand.

⁵The Lord said, “This sign is being given to you so that the Israelites will believe that the Lord, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.”

⁶The Lord also said to him, “Put your hand inside your cloak.” So he put his hand inside his cloak, and when he took it out, his hand was leprous,^[a] as white as snow.

⁷Then the Lord said, “Put your hand back inside your cloak.” So he put his hand inside his cloak again, and when he took it out of his cloak, it was restored like the rest of his flesh.

⁸The Lord said, “If they do not believe you or do not respond to the first sign, they might believe because of the second sign. ⁹If they do not believe even these two signs or listen to your voice, you are to take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry land. The water which you take from the Nile will become blood on the dry land.”

¹⁰But Moses said to the Lord, “Please, Lord, I have never been eloquent, either in the past or more recently or even since you started speaking to your servant, for my mouth and tongue are slow and clumsy.”^[b]

¹¹So the Lord said to him, “Who made a mouth for people? Or who makes someone mute or deaf, able to see or blind? Is it not I, the Lord? ¹²Now go, and I will be with your mouth, and I will teach you what you will speak.”

¹³But he said, “Please, Lord, send someone else.”

¹⁴Then the Lord’s anger burned against Moses, and the Lord said, “What about Aaron, your brother, the Levite? I know that he can speak well. Look, he is already coming out to meet you. He will be very glad to see you. ¹⁵You will speak to him and put the words into his mouth. I will be with your mouth and with his, and I will teach you what you are to do. ¹⁶He will speak to the people for you so that it will be as if he were your mouth, and you were God to him. ¹⁷You will also take this staff in your hand, the one with which you will perform the signs.”

Moses Returns to Egypt

¹⁸Then Moses went back to his father-in-law Jethro and said to him, “Let me go and return to my own people, who are in Egypt, and see whether they are still alive.”

Jethro said to Moses, “Go in peace.”

¹⁹The Lord said to Moses in Midian, “Go, return to Egypt, for everyone who wanted to kill you is dead.”

²⁰So Moses took his wife and his sons, placed them on a donkey, and set out to return to the land of Egypt. Moses took the staff of God in his hand.

²¹The Lord said to Moses, “When you go back to Egypt, make sure that you perform in the presence of Pharaoh all the wonders which I have put into your hand. However, I will make his heart hard,^[c] and he will not let the people go. ²²You will then say to Pharaoh, ‘The Lord says: Israel is my son, my firstborn, ²³and I have said to you, “Let my son go to serve me,” but you have refused to let him go. Watch out. I will kill your son, your firstborn.’”

²⁴At a lodging place along the way, the Lord confronted him and sought to kill him.^[d] ²⁵Then Zipporah took a flint blade, cut off her son’s foreskin, and cast it at his feet. Then she said, “Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me.”

²⁶So the Lord left him alone. (At that time she said “bridegroom of blood,” referring to circumcision.)

Reunion of Moses and Aaron

²⁷The Lord had said to Aaron, “Go into the wilderness to meet Moses.”

So he went, met Moses at the mountain of God, and kissed him. ²⁸Moses told Aaron all the words that the Lord had sent him to speak and all the signs he had commanded him to perform. ²⁹Moses and Aaron then went and gathered together every elder of the people of Israel. ³⁰Aaron spoke all the words which the Lord had spoken to Moses and performed the signs in the sight of the people. ³¹The people believed. When they heard that the Lord had paid attention to the Israelites and that he had seen their misery, they bowed down and worshipped.

Bricks Without Straw

5 Afterward Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says. Let my people go so that they may hold a festival for me in the wilderness.”

²Pharaoh said, “Who is the Lord that I should listen to his voice and let Israel go? I do not know the Lord, and I certainly will not let Israel go.”

³They said, “The God of the Hebrews has met with us. Please let us go on a three-day journey into the wilderness, and let us sacrifice to the Lord, our God, so that he does not strike us with plague or sword.”

⁴But the king of Egypt said to them, “Moses and Aaron, why are you taking the people away from their work? Get back to your forced labor!” ⁵Pharaoh also said, “Look, the people of the land are now numerous, and you are stopping them from doing their forced labor.”

⁶That same day Pharaoh commanded the people’s taskmasters and overseers, ⁷“Do not give the people straw for making bricks anymore. Let them go and gather their own straw. ⁸But require them to make the same number of bricks as they made before. Do not reduce it. You see, they are lazy. That is why they are crying out, ‘Let us go and sacrifice to our God.’ ⁹Make the work harder for the people so that they do their work and do not pay attention to lying words.”

¹⁰So the people’s taskmasters and overseers went out and told the people, “This is what Pharaoh says: ‘I will not give you straw. ¹¹Go, get straw for yourselves wherever you can find it. But there will be no reduction at all in your work load.’” ¹²So the people scattered all over the land of Egypt to gather stubble for straw. ¹³The taskmasters kept insisting, “Fulfill your daily quota just as you did when straw was provided!” ¹⁴The overseers, whom Pharaoh’s taskmasters had placed over the Israelites, were beaten. The taskmasters demanded, “Why have you not fulfilled your quota yesterday and today, as you did previously?”

¹⁵Then the Israelite overseers came and cried out to Pharaoh, “Why are you doing this to your servants? ¹⁶No straw is given to your servants, yet they tell us, ‘Make bricks!’ Look, your servants are being beaten, but the fault is with your own people.”

¹⁷But he said, “Lazy! You are lazy! That is why you are saying, ‘Let us go and sacrifice to the Lord.’ ¹⁸Now go! Get to work! Straw will not be provided to you, but you will deliver the same quota of bricks!”

¹⁹The Israelite overseers realized that they were in trouble when Pharaoh said, “You must not reduce anything from your daily number of bricks!”

²⁰When they left Pharaoh, they met Moses and Aaron, who were waiting to meet them. ²¹They said to Moses and Aaron, “May the Lord look at you and judge you, because you have made us a stench to Pharaoh and his officials and have put a sword into their hand to kill us.”

Who Is the Greatest?

18 At that time the disciples approached Jesus and asked, “Who then is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” ²Jesus called a little child, had him stand in the middle of them, ³and said, “Amen I tell you: Unless you are turned and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. ⁴Whoever humbles himself like this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. ⁵And whoever receives a little child like this one in my name receives me.

⁶“But, if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin,^[a] it would be better for him to have a huge millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. ⁷Woe to the world because of temptations to sin. Temptations must come, but woe to that person through whom the temptation comes!

⁸“If your hand or your foot causes you to sin,^[b] cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life crippled or lame than to be thrown into the eternal fire with two hands or two feet. ⁹If your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and throw it away from you. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to be thrown into hell fire with two eyes. ¹⁰See to it that you do not look down on one of these little ones, because I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father who is in heaven. ¹¹For the Son of Man came to save what was lost.^[c]

The Lost Sheep

¹²“What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go looking for the one that wandered away? ¹³If he finds it—Amen I tell you—he rejoices more over that one sheep than over the ninety-nine that did not wander away. ¹⁴In the same way, your Father in heaven does not want even one of these little ones to perish.

Show Your Brother His Sin

¹⁵“If your brother sins against you, go and show him his sin just between the two of you. If he listens to you, you have regained your brother. ¹⁶But if he will not listen, take one or two others along with you, so that ‘every matter^[d] may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’^[e] ¹⁷If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And, if he refuses to listen even to the church, then treat him as an unbeliever or a tax collector. ¹⁸Amen I tell you: Whatever you bind on earth will be^[f] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. ¹⁹Amen I tell you again: If two of you on earth agree to ask for anything, it will be done for them by my Father who is in heaven. ²⁰In fact where two or three have gathered together in my name, there I am among them.”

The Messiah’s Vow

²²I will declare your name to my brothers.

Stand in awe of him, all you descendants of Israel!
²⁴For he has not despised nor detested the affliction of the afflicted.
He has not hidden his face from him,
but when he cried out to him, he heard.

I will fulfill my vows in the presence of those who fear him.

The Glory of Messiah’s Kingdom

²⁶The poor will eat and be satisfied.

²⁷All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord,
and all the families of the nations will bow down before you.
²⁸For the kingdom belongs to the Lord,
and he rules over the nations.

Today is the 26^th day of January, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian it is wonderful to be here with you today as we begin a brand-new week together. And yesterday we concluded the book of Genesis and began the book of Exodus which is what we’re journeying through now. So, we met this baby and his name was Moses and we’re going to be getting to know Moses for quite a while, but we were able to make his acquaintance yesterday as a baby in the Nile River in a basket being discovered by Pharaoh’s daughter and then raising her…raising him as her own. So, we’ll read from the Evangelical Heritage Version this week. Exodus chapter 2 verse 11 through 3 verse 22.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word and as we move into this brand-new week and…and…and look out before us, we take this time as we do most weeks to understand that it’s all out in front of us. What this week is going to look like has yet to be written, and it will be written by the choices that we make. So, we invite Your Holy Spirit to come and offer wisdom in the deepest places of our souls and in all of our important decisions that are before us. Come Holy Spirit we pray. In the name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.

Exodus 2:11-3:22

Moses Flees to Midian

¹¹After some time, when Moses had grown up, he went out to his own people and observed their forced labor. He saw an Egyptian striking a Hebrew, one of his own people. ¹²After he looked this way and that, and he saw that no one was there, he struck down the Egyptian and hid him in the sand.

¹³The next day when he went out, he came upon two Hebrew men who were fighting. He said to the one in the wrong, “Why were you striking your fellow Hebrew?”

¹⁴The man said, “Who made you a ruler and a judge over us? Are you planning to kill me just as you killed the Egyptian?”

Moses was afraid and thought, “What I have done has definitely become known.” ¹⁵When Pharaoh heard what Moses had done, he sought to kill Moses. Moses, however, fled from Pharaoh’s presence and went to live in the land of Midian. There he sat down by a well.

¹⁶Now a priest of Midian had seven daughters. They came and started drawing water. They filled the troughs to water their father’s flock, ¹⁷but some shepherds came and drove them away. Moses, however, stood up and helped them. He then watered their flock. ¹⁸When the daughters came to Reuel, their father, he said, “Why have you returned so early today?”

¹⁹They said, “An Egyptian man rescued us from the shepherds. He even drew water for us and watered the flock.”

²⁰Reuel said to his daughters, “Where is he? Why have you left the man there? Invite him to have something to eat.”

²¹Moses agreed to stay with the man. The man gave his daughter Zipporah to Moses as a wife. ²²She gave birth to a son, and Moses named him Gershom, for he said, “I have become an alien^[a] living in a foreign land.”

God Hears Israel’s Groaning

²³After a long time, the king of Egypt died. The Israelites groaned because of their slavery. They cried out, and their cry for help because of their slavery went up to God. ²⁴So God heard their groaning, and he remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. ²⁵God saw the people of Israel, and God watched over them.

Moses and the Burning Bush

3 Now Moses was shepherding the flock of Jethro, his father-in-law, a priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. ²The Angel of the Lord appeared to him in blazing fire from within a bush. Moses saw that the bush was on fire, but the bush was not burning up. ³So he said, “I will go over and look at this amazing sight—to find out why the bush is not burning up.”

⁴When the Lord saw that Moses had gone over to take a look, God called to him from the middle of the bush and said, “Moses! Moses!”

Moses said, “I am here.”

⁵The Lord said, “Do not come any closer. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” ⁶He then said, “I am the God of your fathers,^[b] the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.”

Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.

⁷The Lord said, “I have certainly seen the misery of my people in Egypt, and I have heard their cry for help because of their slave drivers. Yes, I am aware of their suffering. ⁸So I have come down to deliver them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land to a good and spacious land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. ⁹Now indeed, the Israelites’ cry for help has come to me. Yes, I have seen how the Egyptians are oppressing them. ¹⁰Come now, I will send you to Pharaoh to bring my people, the Israelites, out of Egypt.”

¹¹But Moses said to God, “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”

¹²So he said, “I will certainly be with you. This will be the sign to you that I have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will serve God on this mountain.”

¹³But Moses said to God, “If I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what should I say to them?”

¹⁴So God replied to Moses, “I am who I am.”^[c] He also said, “You will say this to the Israelites: I am has sent me to you.”

¹⁵God also told Moses, “Say this to the Israelites: ‘The Lord, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you. This is my name forever, and this is how I am to be remembered from generation to generation.’

¹⁶“Go, gather the elders of Israel together and tell them: ‘The Lord, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, has appeared to me, saying: I have certainly been paying attention to you and to what they have done to you in Egypt. ¹⁷So I have said that I will bring you up from the misery in Egypt to the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, to a land flowing with milk and honey.’

¹⁸“They will listen to your voice. Then you and the elders of Israel will go to the king of Egypt, and you will say to him, ‘The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, has met with us. Now let us go on a three-day journey into the wilderness so that we may sacrifice to the Lord, our God.’

¹⁹“But I know that the king of Egypt will not allow you to go unless he is forced to do so by a powerful hand. ²⁰So I will reach out my hand and strike Egypt with all my wonders which I will do in their midst. Afterward he will let you go.

²¹“I will give this people favor with the Egyptians so that when you go, you will not go out empty-handed. ²²Each woman is to ask her neighbor, as well as any woman staying in her house, for articles of silver, articles of gold, and clothing. You are to put them on your sons and daughters. In this way you will plunder the Egyptians.”

¹⁰His disciples asked him, “Then why do the experts in the law say that Elijah must come first?”

¹¹Jesus answered them, “Yes, Elijah is coming and will restore all things,^[a] ¹²but I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him. Instead they did to him whatever they desired. In the same way the Son of Man will also suffer at their hands.” ¹³Then the disciples understood that he was talking to them about John the Baptist.

Jesus Heals a Boy With a Demon

¹⁴When they came to the crowd, a man approached Jesus and knelt in front of him. ¹⁵“Lord,” he said, “have mercy on my son because he has seizures and is suffering terribly. He often falls into the fire or into the water. ¹⁶I brought him to your disciples, but they were not able to cure him.”

¹⁷Jesus answered, “O unbelieving and perverse generation! How long must I be with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring him here to me.” ¹⁸Jesus rebuked the demon, and it went out of the boy, and he was cured from that hour.

¹⁹Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why were we unable to drive it out?”

²⁰He said to them, “Because of your little faith.^[b] Amen I tell you: If you have faith like a mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you. ²¹But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”^[c]

Jesus Predicts His Death and Resurrection Again

²²While they were gathering together in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men. ²³They will kill him, but on the third day he will be raised.” And they were greatly distressed.

A Coin in a Fish’s Mouth

²⁴When they came to Capernaum, those who collected the temple tax^[d] came to Peter and said, “Doesn’t your teacher pay the temple tax?” ²⁵He said, “Yes.”

When he came into the house, Jesus spoke first, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth collect tolls or a tax? From their own sons or from others?”

²⁶Peter said to him, “From others.”

Jesus said to him, “Then the sons are exempt. ²⁷But, so that we do not offend them, go to the sea, cast a hook, and take the first fish that you pull up. When you open its mouth, you will find a silver coin.^[e] Take that coin and give it to them for me and for you.”

Part One: The Messiah’s Suffering
The Messiah’s Plea

¹My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
My groaning does nothing to save me.
²My God, I call out by day, but you do not answer.
I call out by night, but there is no relief for me.^[b]

God’s Help in the Past

³Yet you are seated as the Holy One, praised by Israel.
⁴In you our fathers trusted.
They trusted and you delivered them.
⁵They cried out to you, and they were rescued.
They trusted in you, and they were not disappointed.

God’s Present Absence

⁶But I am a worm and not a man,
scorned by men and despised by the people.
⁷All who see me mock me. They sneer.
They shake their heads.
⁸They say, “Trust in the Lord.”^[c]
“Let the Lord deliver him.
Let him rescue him, if he delights in him.”^[d]

The Mutual Love of Father and Son

The Power of His Enemies

All my bones are pulled apart.
My heart has become like wax.

Today is the 25^th day of January, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian it’s great to be here with you at the end of another one of our weeks. And this is actually the final weekend of the first month of the year. So, well done. And as we end this week there’s also another special line that we’re gonna cross. Today, we will conclude the first book of the Bible, the book of Genesis and then begin the book of Exodus. So, well done! And let’s get to it. Let’s conclude the book of Genesis and then we’ll talk about the book of Exodus as we begin it. But first, Genesis chapter 50, which is the final chapter of the book. And we’ll conclude the story of Joseph.

Introduction to the Book of Genesis:

Okay, so that concludes the book of Genesis and the book of Genesis concludes with the conclusion of the story of Joseph. So, what we have started at the very beginning, right, when we started on January 1^st, the first words of the Bible were, “in the beginning.” So, we started at the beginning, we got a glimpse of how things were always intended to be for us. We saw how that got blown apart. We saw separation from God be introduced into the human story and then we watched humans try to use the knowledge of good and evil to essentially glorify themselves so that they could be their own God, which is what the serpent essentially tried to promise them, but we watched that disintegrate and fall apart completely until everyone’s heart was evil and the world was flooded, which took us to the story of Noah. As we continued to journey forward, we met a man named Abram whose…his name was changed to Abraham and he entered into a covenant with God. God selected Abram changed his name to Abraham and then said, “I’m starting over with you. I’m going to create a people set apart unto me on this earth among all of the other people who bear my image, but who have rejected me and embraced separation. Through you. I’m going to create a people set apart as mine and through you will be the light to the world and all the nations will be blessed.” So, in other words God’s saying, “we’ve tried a few things but this knowledge of good and evil inside the heart of man is corrupting him utterly. So, I’m going to create a people of my own through Abram, Abraham. So, Abraham didn’t have any kids. We know that. He had a child in his old age, the son of promise named Isaac. And we went through all of that story. Isaac then had sons, Jacob and Esau. We went through that story of conniving and deception by Jacob and it certainly was revisited upon him. He did reap what he sowed but in the end Jacob’s name became Israel. Alright. And, so, his children then are the children of Israel of which Joseph was one of them. And Joseph was trafficked into Egypt as we know. But that is how the children of Israel got to Egypt. And, so, we close Genesis at that point. Now we’re about to pick up the second book of the Bible.

And Exodus picks up this very same story, we’re just moving centuries into the future as we pick it up. So, these original children of Israel, the actual children who became tribes of Israel had…had certainly died. We’re centuries into the future, but their offspring had flourished in Egypt. They had become as numerous as the stars in the heavens, which is what God promised Abraham. But this flourishing that was happening was happening in Egypt and we’re centuries in the future and Joseph is forgotten and the Egyptians began to fear the numbers of the Hebrews and to fear their loyalty. So, like I said, Joseph’s forgotten and they don’t necessarily remember that he had saved them from devastation centuries in the past. So, Israel’s children were enslaved. And the new Pharaoh of Egypt wanted to curb and control the explosion of population among the Hebrews. So, his version of population control was to demand that the Hebrew midwives would literally…would throw every boy, every baby boy that was born into the Nile River and the girls could live. And this…this, among other things certainly cause the Hebrew people, the children of Israel, Jacob’s children, they cried out to God. And there was a baby and he was a boy and he was supposed to be thrown into the Nile River, but instead he was…he was put into the Nile River in a basket and then his little sister kinda watched from a distance to kinda watch out for him while he’s technically in the Nile River. But he’s being saved. This little boy’s name is Moses and we will be journeying with Moses for quite a while. And as it turns out, this little basket that had this little baby in it was discovered by the daughter of Pharaoh and he was given the name Moses. And, so, he was a Hebrew who had been raised as an Egyptian and we will watch that story unfold as we now begin the second look at the Bible, the book of Exodus.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You, we thank You, we thank You for Your word and we thank You for bringing us these 25 days into this new year all the way to the last weekend of this first month. And we acknowledge, time, it moves by quickly, but as we established this rhythm, it strengthens us, it encourages us, it gives us wisdom for the road ahead. And, so, we thank You for all that You’ve done in our lives as we’ve journey through the book of Genesis, all that You are doing as we move through the first Gospel of Matthew. And we invite Your Holy Spirit as we release this week into our history and look forward to the next, that we would be aware of Your presence in all things. Come Holy Spirit we pray. In the name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.

I’ve been a Christian since I was a young child and I talk to God all day long every day but I struggle from an addiction to prescription pain medicine that I used to take for my back but I now take for the euphoric feeling that I used to feel before I built up a tolerance. So, I end up taking too many and running out two weeks before my refill is due, and it’s been a vicious cycle and has destroyed my marriage. I’m still married but my wife and I don’t talk very much anymore, and I need deliverance from this stronghold. And I ask that you will pray that God will free me from this bondage. That’s about it. While happy new year family this is Biola calling from Maryland. I actually had to call even though I’m recovering from tooth surgery and my cheek looks as if a chipmunk hid a nut or two in it. Good morning Daily Audio Bible community I just wanted to call and pray for Brian this morning. This is Darby in Georgia. And Brian I just…I was thinking about meeting today in Genesis 39 and I think it’s verse 22 or 23 where God just he…he was with Joseph. It’s all about Joseph and being put in prison. And I think with depression and anxiety you can feel as if you’re in a prison, that you’re in a pit. But Joseph lived as if God was with him because he was. And at that right time God brought him out of the pit and raised him up so that he could not only be free of that but also be a blessing to many others. And I just pray today that God would give you hope, that God would fill you with a sense of his nearness even though you said you feel like He’s far from you, He is not. And I know I’m not the only one that’s been provoked by just your hopelessness today. I just pray that God would just give you a sense through His Holy Spirit that He is near to you, He is not far. And God, fill him with hope, fill Brian with hope and let him choose to live this day as if You were with him. Give him direction, give him wisdom, and surround him with others Lord who will help to fill him with hope and to see You and to raise his head up and look for You and find You. In Jesus’ name. Today’s date is 1/19 and I just listened to the prayers for today and I’ve been meeting to call for a long time. I’ve been a listener for about five years. And Ben, I’m just going to thank you and do a callout for pushing us to call because I’d wanted to call again today and your prayer of “just call” has…has prompted this. So, I thank you but today I’m really calling about Brian. My brother, I heard your prayer today. I heard your anguish and feeling depression and problems in your marriage and lack of memory and I just want you to know you’re not alone. I…it’s been for me about 15 - 20 years, that I had to because of my depression have a ECT which…that’s the electroconvulsive shock therapy. And, so, since then I have suffered not only the disease of bipolar but with lack of…loss of memory and how frustrating. I do know…I do know what that feels like and I want you to know how much God loves you and it can be frustrating but continue in the blood of Christ. Remember how much He loves you and wants to be with you. Let Him…let Him and don’t shoot Him…don’t shut Him out by telling Him that you don’t feel Him. He loves you. He is inside of you. Hello, my name is Claire and I’m calling from Canada. I am a longtime listener and first-time collar. I just want to say that I’ve been praying for everybody all these years. Everybody I hear call in, I pray with you and I’m just glad that you guys do call in. I did want to mention the guy that was running, that he just started listening as a podcast. I thought that…just…it made me so happy to hear that because I pray for the salvation and that people would start listening to the Daily Audio Bible all the time. And anyways, I want to call in because I have a friend and this is probably running prevalent through a lot of people’s lives, but I had a friend that’s been injured, he’s had crones for many years. We’ve been friends for 20 years and he’s really suffered. He is a believer but it’s the crones, they ended up putting him on painkillers when he went through surgery and after that he became addicted to them. And anyways, he’s living with my mother now and we’re trying to get him into detox and the enemy really has, you know, a grip on him emotionally and spiritually and I just, you know, want to ask, you know, everybody to please pray for him as, you know, he is really fighting a battle and, you know…I’m sorry but it’s just, you know, I don’t…I…I really want to see him healed once and for all. And just so you know I’m praying for all the people that are dealing with sicknesses and cancer right now and all these kinds of things. I am standing in prayer with all of you as well. Hello Daily Audio Bible community I’m calling in today because I just listened this morning and Ben from Columbus Ohio encouraged those of us who have been reticent to call in to just get on it and do it. And, so, here I am. I’m going into my 10^th year with the Daily Audio Bible and I’ve been praying for all of you this whole time, just never called in myself. But I just wanted to share a praise report. Over the last…some of the things you’ve shared with me and my wife of the last 10 years even though you didn’t know you were sharing them with us, you were. So, we’re both soldiers in the U.S. Army and the last 10 years both of our children were born. We’ve done seven moves, we’ve done 23 month-long training deployments, we’ve done two combat deployments between two of us. We’ve done two noncombat deployments between the two of us. The year before this last job I’ve had I did 190 days on business travel over that one year. We did to master’s degrees and then we both got selected to command at the next level. Her unit that’s about 4000 people, mine is about 600…well 640 exactly today. I am currently on one of those noncombat deployments right now. And here comes…that was the praise report, here comes the prayer request. Reintegration with my family, looking at that in about 30 days. I’ve spent a lot of time away from them training and being deployed over the last 3 to 4 years and I need to be the person they need me to be. I need them…I need them to just see Jesus through my actions when we get back under the same roof. So, that’s…sometimes it’s more difficult coming back from all that time separated and living apart but just help when we’re back together and living under the same roof together. All right. Genesis 50:1 - Exodus 2:10

50 Then Joseph ^(A)fell on his father's face and wept over him and kissed him. ²And Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to ^(B)embalm his father. So the physicians embalmed Israel. ³Forty days were required for it, for that is how many are required for embalming. And the Egyptians ^(C)wept for him seventy days.

God's Good Purposes

¹⁵When Joseph's brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, “It may be that Joseph will hate us and pay us back for all the evil that we did to him.” ¹⁶So they sent a message to Joseph, saying, “Your father gave this command before he died: ¹⁷‘Say to Joseph, “Please forgive the transgression of your brothers and their sin, because they did evil to you.”’ And now, please forgive the transgression of the servants of ^(K)the God of your father.” Joseph wept when they spoke to him. ¹⁸His brothers also came and ^(L)fell down before him and said, “Behold, we are your servants.” ¹⁹But Joseph said to them, “Do not fear, for ^(M)am I in the place of God? ²⁰As for you, you meant evil against me, but ^(N)God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people^[b] should be kept alive, as they are today. ²¹So do not fear; ^(O)I will provide for you and your little ones.” Thus he comforted them and spoke kindly to them.

The Death of Joseph

²²So Joseph remained in Egypt, he and his father's house. Joseph lived 110 years. ²³And Joseph saw Ephraim's children ^(P)of the third generation. The ^(Q)children also of Machir the son of Manasseh were ^(R)counted as Joseph's own.^[c] ²⁴And Joseph said to his brothers, “I am about to die, but ^(S)God will visit you and bring you up out of this land to the land ^(T)that he swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.” ²⁵Then ^(U)Joseph made the sons of Israel swear, saying, “God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones from here.” ²⁶So Joseph died, being 110 years old. Israel Increases Greatly in Egypt

1 ^(W)These are the names of the sons of Israel who came to Egypt with Jacob, each with his household: ²Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah, ³Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin, ⁴Dan and Naphtali, Gad and Asher. ⁵All the descendants of Jacob were ^(X)seventy persons; Joseph was already in Egypt. ⁶Then ^(Y)Joseph died, and all his brothers and all that generation. ⁷^(Z)But the people of Israel were fruitful and increased greatly; they multiplied and grew exceedingly strong, so that the land was filled with them.

Pharaoh Oppresses Israel

⁸Now there arose a new king over Egypt, ^(AA)who did not know Joseph. ⁹And he said to his people, “Behold, ^(AB)the people of Israel are too many and too mighty for us. ¹⁰^(AC)Come, ^(AD)let us deal shrewdly with them, lest they multiply, and, if war breaks out, they join our enemies and fight against us and escape from the land.” ¹¹Therefore they set taskmasters over them ^(AE)to afflict them with heavy ^(AF)burdens. They built for Pharaoh ^(AG)store cities, Pithom and ^(AH)Raamses. ¹²But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and the more they spread abroad. And the Egyptians were in dread of the people of Israel. ¹³So they ruthlessly made the people of Israel ^(AI)work as slaves ¹⁴and ^(AJ)made their lives bitter with hard service, in mortar and brick, and in all kinds of work in the field. ¹⁵Then the king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, one of whom was named Shiphrah and the other Puah, ¹⁶“When you serve as midwife to the Hebrew women and see them on the birthstool, if it is a son, you shall kill him, but if it is a daughter, she shall live.” ¹⁷But the midwives ^(AK)feared God and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but let the male children live. ¹⁸So the king of Egypt called the midwives and said to them, “Why have you done this, and let the male children live?” ¹⁹The midwives said to Pharaoh, “Because the Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women, for they are vigorous and give birth before the midwife comes to them.” ²⁰^(AL)So God dealt well with the midwives. The Birth of Moses

2 Now a ^(AP)man from the house of Levi went and took as his wife a Levite woman. ²The woman conceived and bore a son, and ^(AQ)when she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him three months. ³When she could hide him no longer, she took for him a basket made of bulrushes^[e] and daubed it with bitumen and pitch. She put the child in it and placed it among the ^(AR)reeds by the river bank. ⁴And ^(AS)his sister stood at a distance to know what would be done to him. ⁵Now the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the river, while her young women walked beside the river. Genesis 48:1-49:33, Matthew 15:29-16:12, Psalms 20:1-9, Proverbs 4:20-27

Today is the 24^th day of January, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian it is wonderful to be here with you today. It’s a joy that we can kind of come around the Global Campfire for another day and just enjoy each other’s company as we listen to God’s word. So, we’ve been reading from the English Standard Version this week. We will continue with that through the end of the week. And today Genesis chapters 48 and 49.

Commentary:

Okay. So, as we continue our journey through the book of Matthew and kind of walk alongside Jesus in his ministry, we’re seeing things start to amp up. He’s shown up on the radar very clearly. He’s clearly drawing a crowd. He’s definitely becoming well. And, so, the religious leaders are watching Him and traveling to question Him. And, so, that’s where we find ourselves today. They travel to see Him and asked for a sign from heaven. So, Jesus answers them like, “when it’s evening you say it will be fair weather for the skies red and in the morning, it’ll be stormy because the skies red and threatening. So, you know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you can’t interpret the signs of the times.” So, it’s like Jesus saying, “you’re asking me to show you a sign from heaven when signs from heaven are everywhere you look and you can’t interpret them and you are the leaders.” So, we see the tension. In terms of Jesus, it’s not really coming from the people that He’s ministering too. Rather, it’s coming from the people who feel as if their territory is being invaded and it’s easy just to look at, you know, that the leaders are taking…are antagonistic toward Jesus. And that’s really the story but you have to imagine, this Rabbi just kind of shows up and…and all of a sudden is igniting something in the hearts of the people that hasn’t been seen…like that they are not able to…to make happen. And all…all of the rumors are that God is on the move…like the miraculous is happening, the power of God is on display. And, so, they’re certainly asking questions and checking things out but what’s happening in the processes is that Jesus is this essentially making mincemeat of the way that they’re doing things by saying, “you have lost the Spirit of the law. You’re trying to obey the letter of the law, but you forgot why it exists. And, so, this whole thing has boiled down to a set of rituals and power and control over the people. You’re not leading to people deeper into an awareness and relationship with God, you’re leading them deeper into a cage of rules that has become a cage because you’ve been willing to wrestle with things among yourselves and come up with conclusions that void the word of God.” So, we sort of see this showdown in the making. And later on, after this exchange Jesus is talking to the disciples and He’s like, “beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees.” And, of course, they were confused. They thought He was talking about bread because that's…that’s the context for leaven. Like, leaven is an agent that modifies the dough so that it will become inflated and…and actually it ferments and then there’s gases and that it inflates and then it can hold more air and be more puffy and more edible for bread. And that's…that’s really nice the way that that works in bread but not very nice when you think of your faith, being fermented and full of gas and puffed up and full of holes so that it’s inflated and it’s been modified. And, so, yeah, this is…this is what Jesus is dealing with. And that is fundamentally people who are asleep, who do not have eyes to see and ears to hear, who are asleep, who need to be revived, who need to be awakened so that they can see and interpret the times. We don’t need that any less now. And we can get into these stories and see what Jesus is dealing with and see that He’s trying to bring light, He’s trying to bring life and good news and awareness. He’s trying to say like, “the stories different than the one you’re living in.” But they’re blinded. And we…we struggle. We see through a glass darkly as the apostle Paul said. So, you know, we struggle with the same kinds of issues. What are we supposed to do? We’ve got 2000 years a history here since that time. So, it seems like we should be moving forward. How do…how do we stay rooted and grounded like Jesus? How to navigate like He did. How was He able to see the things that He saw? And I think we’ve already…we’ve already talked about this. We’re watching God walk the path of wisdom and the path of truth. The irony is that there’s nothing that was available to Jesus that has been withheld from us. Jesus said all these things you see me do, you can do these things. You can do greater than these things because I’m going to the Father. Paul tells us it’s the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead that is indwelling us. There’s nothing that’s withheld from us here. So, how do we walk that path? How do we navigate like Jesus?

We walk the path of wisdom that Jesus is walking. which brings us to the voice of wisdom from the Proverbs today, practically on her knees begging us, “my son be attentive to my words. Incline your ear, like bend your ear to my sayings Let them not escape from your site”, right? “Don’t let wisdom out of your sight. Keep these sayings within your heart. Their life to those who find them and healing to their flesh. Keep your heart with all vigilance for from it flows the springs of life.” That’s wisdom telling us, “your heart is central. Everything flows outward from that place. It is the most true and essential part of you. From it flows the springs of life.” So, she, the voice of wisdom is basically saying, “hey! Attention! Watch where you’re going.” We understand that in terms of like of vehicle, right? If you’re gonna get in a vehicle and start the ignition you better pay attention and watch where you’re going, or you can get hurt or killed or kill somebody. Wisdom is saying, “apply that idea to your heart and watch where you’re going.”

Prayer:

Father we invite Your Holy Spirit into all that we read today about leaven and puffed up and air and all of this as well as how to navigate listening to the voice of wisdom. And that’s something we’ve gotta learn because we’re so used to hearing things so many other ways when the voice of wisdom, the voice of Your Holy Spirit is deep within us. So, again, we’re asking what we’ve been asking, give us eyes to see and ears to hear Your kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Hi this is Yvonne from Chicago I’m calling in for prayer for a member of my family, my cousin Isaiah. He’s in his mid-20s and is going through a crisis related to his mental health. He’s not the same young man that I knew growing up and he knows God. He was given the foundation of the Lord with our family. Unfortunately, there were some dramatic things that happened to him, you know, as a young adult. He still is a young adult. But he, for lack of a better word, he was violated in some way and given…given mind altering drugs against his will. And as a result of that issue it has caused trauma where it’s like he’s not in his right mind. He goes in and out of being in his right mind and reality. I don’t know the full diagnosis but I’m just asking for the DAB family to pray for my cousin Isaiah. He was a prayer warrior when he was a toddler, praying and laying hands on people and now it grieves me to see the enemy trying to take him out by way of mental illness, his mind, depression, oppression. So just praying and asking for the DAB family to keep Isaiah listed in prayer and that the Lord will restore him mentally and bring him back.

Hey Daily Audio Bible family this is Becky in Orlando. Anyway, I’m a couple days behind I just finished listening to the 14^th and Diane, my heart goes out to you. I can’t imagine how you feel right now with metastatic breast cancer having that metastasize into your brain and knowing about your kids who have autism and a husband who’s dealing with his own demons right now. I just want to let you know that I’m praying for you and I’m praying for your full recovery. I know that God can heal you. I remember a couple years ago I was out walking, and I had heard a mother call in about her son. Her son had cancer that metastasized, and they said that he only had months left to live. He decided that he was going to quit going to college in he was going to become a full-time missionary. And talk about how faithful God had been in his life. Even though he only had months left to live. And I just thought how brave this boy is. And then a couple months later she called in again and said that he had gone in for update to see where the cancer had spread to and how bad it had become. And guess what? He had divine healing. There was nothing left in his body that they could detect that was cancer and the doctors couldn’t explain. I know that God didn’t can do this for you Diane and I am believing in it for you. And Kathleen from Mount Zion Illinois I have listened to you for so many years and I love your spirit and I’m praying for your daughter. I’m praying for her complete healing and am also praying for you to get a flight out of Abu Dhabi. I love you guys and I look forward to hearing your praise report and I will talk to you soon. Hi, DABbers this is Kim in Recovery. I just heard Victoria Soldier prayer request and I just want to lift her up. Lord, we pray for the special sweet sister. Lord, so many times I’ve heard her lift up the DABbers and pray for us. Lord, I want to send out a special prayer for her as she’s had this loss of her cousin, the pastor of a church that recently burned down. Her family church Lord. Lord, I just want to pray for her, her family and this community. Lord, pray specially for this community of believers that they just lost their pastor and their church. That, You’ll bring them together, that You’ll knit these special souls together, that they’ll be able to do Your will in the rebuilding of this church, of the changing in the landscape, or whatever Your will would be and what You would have this church and this community as they’ve had this great loss. Lord, we pray that You will You’ll give the resources, that You will pray for each church member, that they will not get discouraged, that…that…that we know that You’re always near us and You’ll walk with us in any circumstance Lord. Good morning Daily Audio Bible family, to be a Blessing in California. Just wanted to let folks know who I haven’t heard from in a while that I’m praying for you. I’m thinking Salvation is Mine, Cherry Chase Cherry Pie, Malisa, Annette from Oklahoma City. Praying also for Drew from California. And I wanted to let those who are starting this beautiful journey this year for the first time as well as reminding those who have been a part of this community as well that it’s so easy for the enemy to make us think that our prayer requests are not important, that reaching out to get prayerful support won’t matter but it really does. To know that there are people out there praying for you even though you may have forgotten what your request was, it’s so important. God wants to do amazing things for us, and He says Jesus tells us that we don’t have because we don’t ask. And also, we might be asking for things that are going to be for our best good, but God knows about. So, He may not answer our prayer the way that we want but know that He will answer our prayers. He’s faithful. He loves us so. I experienced that situation last year where I wasn’t calling in for a while because I was just under depression, feeling hopeless. So, I pray that whenever we find ourselves in those situations that we will push through, pick up the phone, push the button and ask for help. This is Colette from California and I’m led to call in to pray for the three mothers that called in this week. The first mother, I believe her name is Kenisha and she called in regarding her two eldest children, a son who may be involved in some illegal activity and a daughter who is expressing some behaviors associated with depression. Father, we also want to bring before You the mother who called in regarding her two children who are delving into the occult. And the third mother called in regarding her two daughters who appear to be following their own way and are being tossed to and fro by their decisions. So, we want to come before the Lord this morning. Father, we come humbly yet boldly to Your throne of grace pleading for these situations to be halted in their very tracks. You promised in Your word according to acts 16:31 that if we believe our entire households will be saved. We believe, we stand, we claim this in the mighty matchless name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. And Father, one other request, is that You give these mothers a measure of peace that is unusual, that is irrational, that is not understandable Father as they go through these life situations that are…that are currently plaguing them. Father we know that we are to be anxious for nothing but often times these situations do rattle us, but Father we know that Your balm of Gilead can be swabbed over their minds, their hearts, their souls, their emotions so that they are coming before You in prayer and in clarity. And Father we know that You will give them wisdom. Father, we also know that situations are for Your glory and that they will and in the testimony one day. Thank You, Father in advance for delivering and for answering this prayer. Amen.

Hey, DABbers this is Slave of Jesus in North Carolina. I am in the middle of the Middle East and I sometimes listen to the Daily Audio Bible when I’m getting ready to go to sleep or trying to get a nap or whatever. And today I heard a prayer request that literally…I’m on my knees right now…got me out of bed right before I was ready to fall asleep. And Lord I just ask you to honor…honor this prayer request as for one of our DABbers. I ask you forgiveness from my wife for mentioning a female’s name on the DAB prayer line. But Lord I ask You to watch over Diana Davis. I ask You to miraculous…we know what the doctors have said about her cancer, but Lord You are the ultimate physician, the ultimate healer and I ask You to miraculously heal her so that she can honor You here in the DAB family. She has faithfully, faithfully honored You for…for 13 years but more importantly Lord, if it’s her time to come on we ask You to honor prayer request, to keep her sons Elijah and Michael together. Autistic people are some of the most wonderful people in the world and we ask You to use them Lord long after whenever You decide to take Diana. We ask You to use them to honor You but just to show joy and peace and to bring people into their lives that they can honor You. Love You all. Have a great day.

Hello DAB family this is Paula the child advocate from the LA area calling. I just wanted to ask for some prayers. I heard some really sad news yesterday. There’s a group of women that I’ve been getting together with for 30 years or more and this past Christmas we got together at the one of our friend’s homes, her name is Doris. And Doris has had a hard time because her son died a few years ago unexpectedly, but she had some good news to share with us, that her daughter was recently engaged and getting married this year. And we all felt that Doris was doing so much better and we were delighted to spend the evening at her home with her. And then yesterday I got this very sad news that Doris took her life this week. And it’s just such a shocking thing for myself and my whole group of women friends because we just didn’t see anything that indicated that, you know, she wasn’t doing well. So, I ask for your prayers please for Doris’s daughter and for her husband who now have suffered, you know, the loss of not only their child, their son, but also now their mother. Thank you DAB family. I really appreciate it. I hear your prayers and I pray for you all. Thank you.

Jesus Heals Many

The Pharisees and Sadducees Demand Signs

The Leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees

Today is the 23^rd day of January, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian and it’s great to be here with you today as we continue the journey through our week and continue the journey through the Scriptures. So, let’s dive in. We’ve been reading from the English Standard Version this week, which is of course what we’ll continue to do. And in the Old Testament we are working our way through the book of Genesis and we’ve settled into this story about a man named Joseph and we’ve talked quite a bit about Joseph so we don’t need to do a recap, we know where we are, but we’re continuing the story today with Joseph reaching out to his family and…and…and Jacob, his father being able to lay eyes on a son that he thought had been long, long dead. So, we pick up the story with Genesis chapter 46 and we’ll read 46 and 47 today.

Commentary:

Okay. So, Jesus has plenty…plenty to say in the Gospel of Matthew today, plenty that we really, really, deeply need to pay attention to. So, there’s several things here. Let’s kind of work in reverse order, because some of these are things we really, really need to pay attention to and then one of these things is for context. So, Jesus is moving around the region doing ministry as we know, and He went to the district of Tyre and Sidon and…and a non-Hebrew woman, a Canaanite woman comes to Jesus and asked for mercy, that her daughter is oppressed by a demon and…and she needs help. So, obviously Jesus could perform miracles, or that miracles, that the miraculous of the supernatural was happening around Jesus was spreading all over the place. And Jesus didn’t answer her. And she kept asking and she kept begging until the disciples…like she kept asking the disciples to go to Jesus. And, so, they finally come to Jesus and say, “hey, can you send her away. Like, she’s bugging us now.” And then Jesus says, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” And she’s like, “please help me, please help me.” And He’s like, “it’s not right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” And she’s like, “but…but even the dogs get to eat the crumbs when they fall off the table.” And that changes everything and Jesus is like, “wow” basically. “Great is your faith. Be it done for you as you desire.” And the daughter was healed. And we can look at this and go, “well, why didn’t He just do that in the first place? Doesn’t Jesus love everybody? I mean, like, why is He being so exclusive here and excluding people? Like, what’s going on?”

We’re not too far into the story so we can remember. If we go back to the book of Genesis, we remember the fall of Adam and Eve, we remember that that separated them from God. We’ve talk about all of this. We watched the world use…you know…we watched humanity use their knowledge of good and evil to try to make themselves a God and we watched things fall apart and disintegrate to the point that the world was destroyed by a flood. We’ve watched what the knowledge of good and evil has done to humanity. We’ve also talked about the spiritual realms and God’s divine family and…and how that pops its head up in different stories from time to time. We also see in the Scriptures that there are times where God essentially releases people to go to their own destruction, to go to the way that they’re demanding to go. And then we saw this story of the Tower of Babel and everybody trying to unite themselves to essentially deify themselves and try to become unstoppable. And God comes down and confuses the language and sends people all throughout the earth. Many biblical scholars view this as like exactly Lord we’re talking about, God sending them off on their own way to go the way that they wanna go and disinheriting them because they have chosen to worship false gods. Immediately after that story is when we meet this man named Abram and the story turns from there because the world, humanity has essentially rejected God and now they’re being allowed to go their own way and follow whatever their own path is going to be, which will lead them to destruction. But then we meet Abram, this one man. And God appears to this one man and says go into a land that I will show you. And we’ve been following his family since. So, it’s as if at ancient times, people went their own way, but God would not stop trying. And He goes to Abram and says I will be your God and will create a people out of you that will be my people and I will be there God. So, in the midst of the chaos and anarchy of the world God chose one person to create a people out of that would be His people on the earth because all the other people had given themselves to other gods. So, he would use Abram and this people that would be formed to show the light to the rest of the world, to bless all the nations through Abraham. Well, that story has a lot of fits and starts. It’s the story of the Bible. So, we’re gonna read that story but if we zoom forward into the book of Matthew now and we come back alongside Jesus, we have to first understand that it’s still the same story, we have just zoomed forward significantly. Jesus has come to earth among those people, the Hebrew people. He was born as one of the people that God had predicted, had chosen through Abram so long ago. But by the time that Jesus arrived on the scene all that the Hebrew people understood of God, their God and their chosen-ness, their exclusivity, their holiness, their set-apart-ness to God had become nothing more than a religious ritual and…and…and power. We’ll get to that in the second. And Jesus is talking to this Canaanite woman…and we know that Jesus talked to other women. Like, there’s gonna be this story of the woman at the well, right, where Jesus talks to her and she’s a Samaritan, but in this particular exchange Jesus is saying what His mission is, that He’s come to this group of people that had been set apart among all the other peoples, not because they were special, like not because they deserved anything, but because everyone else had given themselves to other gods. And, so, God created a people for Himself upon this earth to reclaim things. So, Jesus is stating His mission. This is who I’ve come to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. And we’re reading this. Israel is Jacob. Jacob’s children are the children of Israel, the house of Israel. There are reasons that this matters to us now. A couple that I can think of right off the top of my head, the first is, Jesus came to earth as a Hebrew in a Hebrew context and taught as a Hebrew rabbi from the Hebrew Scriptures. So, it becomes difficult to understand Jesus without understanding the Hebrew story because this is the context that He is ministering in and these are the people that He’s ministering to. And they understand Him, which doesn’t mean that they accept everything that he’s saying. Some do, some don’t. But they understand Him because He’s in the context of their worldview, they understand what’s happening even though they mostly miss who He is. This is gonna start mattering more and more as we continue our journey forward, especially when we get into…into books like the book of Acts and we get into the church era, because Jesus Jewishness, right, His Hebrew ethnicity and His understanding of the Hebrew Scriptures, this is the context that He’s ministering into and it will matter later to the early church when all of a sudden non-Hebrew people known as Gentiles begin flooding in to the kingdom. Then they have a problem to figure out because this is an exclusive people with an exclusive religion and there are steps that need to be taken if you want to become Jewish and it causes some tremendous unrest that eventually causes the very first church council, which we will read about when we get into the book of Acts.

Okay so there’s our context peace. Now let’s look at what Jesus was saying today. We began Matthew 15 and it says, “the Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem.” Let’s just pause for a second. Jesus was on the map at this point if Pharisees and scribes are walking 90 miles up into the Galilee to hear Jesus. So, we notice that there’s momentum, energy building around the message that Jesus is sharing as He moves around the region. So, people come all the way from Jerusalem to check Him out and there like, “so, you know, why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders?” Now, the elders here would be the Sanhedrin, they would be the leaders at the time, those who interpreted the Hebrew Scriptures and wrestled through how to interpret them so that they could pass those rules and traditions onto the people so that they could honor God. So, what Jesus is being asked here is essentially, “hey, you seem to be a rabbi, you seem to have a following, people seem to be listening to what you’re saying and you have disciples that are your inner circle and everybody’s watching all of this. Why are your disciples breaking the traditions of the elders because they’re not washing their hands before they eat?” Jesus just, in this instance, just flat out peels back the layers and exposes what is going on among this chosen people. And we can go back and read Matthew 15 and we don’t need to re-quote Jesus. We’ve already read it. He’s basically saying, “you have made tradition the thing. You have made yourself the keeper of the tradition and you have lost the plot of the story.” To quote Jesus now, “for the sake of your tradition you have made void the word of God. You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you when he said, “the people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. In vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.”” That is hard core right there, friends. And we can go, like, “well…yeah, He was he was calling out those religious leaders because they were hypocrites and they were against Him and who would want to be against nice, sweet, healing loving Jesus” and “yeah…they’re the bad guys.” But yeah, like we don’t have to look so far today before we can find this same thing going on. Who gets to make the rules? Who gets to be the keepers of the rules? Who gets to pass judgment on those who don’t keep their traditions or rules? Though it’s bit of an ongoing problem and in our own lives in our own hearts posture, we need openness not closed fistedness. We need openness to the Spirit of God, not a closed heart that says, “I have the rules and regulations. I’m gonna try my very, very best to obey these rules.” We need an openness. Jesus told the Pharisees that for the sake of keeping the traditions they made the word of God void. Let’s make sure we’re not the same thing. And then Jesus actually takes the time to flesh out what He’s saying, because those people, those leaders from Jerusalem had come to Jesus asking why they weren’t obeying the traditions of the elders, not…not why are you disobeying the Scriptures. Why are you becoming a heretic and disobeying God? No, they’re asking why He’s not obeying the traditions of the elders. And He shows them, “like, you’ve made traditions that break God’s rules. You’ve lost the plot. Even when it comes to washing hands, you’ve lost the plot. It’s not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person it’s what comes out of a person’s heart that defiles them. And yet you’re trying to ritually wrought wash your hands, thinking that somehow that’s gonna wash your insides. You’ve lost the plot. It’s not outside in. That is a complete backward way of living. It’s inside out. That is how you were made.”

Prayer:

And, so, Jesus…there's…there’s plenty…I mean, we can…we can hang on Your words for the rest of our lives, and we will. So, we’ve we spent some time just exploring today. And now that we’ve done that exploring, we invite You, we open ourselves to Your Holy Spirit. Where have we lost the plot? How are we living completely backward to the way that we were made and to the ways of Your kingdom? How will we ever see Your kingdom if we are backward to it? So, come Holy Spirit. We thank You for context. We thank You for challenge. We thank You for disrupting us and we invite You to lead us into all truth. And we have no doubt that You would do that if we will listen. And, so, we invite ourselves to pay attention. Come Holy Spirit we pray. In Jesus’ name we ask. Amen.

We asked her to desire of these foods and fruits and vegetables that you wish to help your mother nourish her with. Father God we ask You to heal his mother from the top of her head to the bottom of her feet Father God, that anything that is not of You would be bound and cast out of her Father God, that You would heal her Father God and bless her family and her son with peace and endurance during this time they would keep their eyes on You. In Jesus’ name we pray. I’m also calling for Broken Hearted and that Your husband left, and this breaks my heart, of course. So, I pray Father God that You would give her hope and joy and love and peace. Holy Spirit restore her and fill her with anything that is not of You, that she would…we would right now I hold this situation her marriage up Lord and I put it at the altar Father God, that You would bless or if it’s abusive as she kind of said Father God that You would take it from her and You would give her so much more Father God, that she’s a daughter of the most-high King, that she should be adored and loved and worshiped Father God. Diana Davis, your doctors may have done all that they can, but our ultimate healer is God. Now that you have prepared for the care of your children should you die, let’s prepare for the possibility that God will heal you. So, in Isaiah 1…Isaiah 40, I want to read that for you. ah…I just lost it…here it is…okay. “That those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength, they will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” And I also want to give you Romans 15 verse 13. “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” So, Lord I lift up Diana to You because You are our healer. We ask for the healing of Diana’s Spirit, mind, body and soul and Lord please strengthen her faith and her body. Give her a hope and a future and fill her life with love and joy no matter how long or short her life is. Show her how to use her bounty of food that You give us to heal her body. Show her how to avoid foods that beat cancer and foods that…and herbs that starve cancer. Restore her to life Lord so she can continue to mentor her children on Your ways. We thank You Lord. My name is Heather and I’m in the Atlanta. I…I am consumed with fear, even making this call. Five years ago, I was embarking on a journey in ministry and Satan unleashed a wrath on my life that I can…I cannot handle anymore. I am asking for prayer, for God to please reveal Himself to me. Help me. I have never been so low in my life. My family has been destroyed. I’m so tired. I’m so tired. Hey Daily Audio Bible is Dr. Kinai from London I pray that everyone is well and it’s the 16^th of January and I just wanted to raise a prayer point for the lady who called in who said that she’s separated from her husband of seven years and it’s likely to end in divorce. And I just…I just had the Lord saying to me that she needs to be reminded that she is seen, and she is known by me. God sees you. God knows you, and there’s nothing in life that takes Him by surprise, and He’s journeyed with you through this. And I just pray that your identity in Him will be restored. I pray that you will know that you are loved, you are cherished, and you are wanted. And while the situation looks dark and bleak, I pray that you would turn to Jesus, our Hope, the One that brings light into dark situations. And I pray for your husband as well, that he will come to the knowledge of God and God’s perfect will will be done in Jesus’ name. And…and just allow praise to be on your lips. You know, there’s this wonderful psalm that says, I vow to praise you through the good and the bad, I vow to praise you whether happy or sad. Hello everybody God’s Smile here from England. I am just a bit tearful, actually. You know how just when we listen, and we’re blessed with the words from Brian as he reads God’s word. And it just really…I couldn’t help but cry and thank God because you are my church. I’m not able to get to church and there’s no…there’s not many around my area. And I remember how I just loved sitting on by Nana’s knee. She wasn’t a proper Nana, but she was like it and adopted Nana and she used to read. And my mom didn’t read to me and I would just soak up the close comfort that I never had as a child with my parents through this lady. And she would read and I…I…I so enjoyed those moments. And it just hit me…though I’ve not sat on Brian’s knee…I felt like I was sat on God’s knee and He’s just reading His word to me and is just wonderful, isn’t it? And these are tears of joy. And yes, I’m still smiling. It just…it just really broke me. I’m so thankful that He cares about such tiny details, which are not that tiny. It may be scary, but it really has helped me to have someone who knows, just even how I respond when I am feeling triggered and that they can sit there and hold my hand and tell me that everything’s okay. Genesis 46-47

Joseph Brings His Family to Egypt

46 So Israel took his journey with all that he had and came to ^(A)Beersheba, and offered sacrifices ^(B)to the God of his father Isaac. ²And God spoke to Israel ^(C)in visions of the night and said, “Jacob, Jacob.” And he said, “Here I am.” ³Then he said, “I am God, ^(D)the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for there I will ^(E)make you into a great nation. ⁴I myself will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also ^(F)bring you up again, and ^(G)Joseph's hand shall close your eyes.”

⁵Then Jacob set out from Beersheba. The sons of Israel carried Jacob their father, their little ones, and their wives, in the wagons ^(H)that Pharaoh had sent to carry him. ⁶They also took their livestock and their goods, which they had gained in the land of Canaan, and ^(I)came into Egypt, Jacob and all his offspring with him, ⁷his sons, and his sons' sons with him, his daughters, and his sons' daughters. All his offspring he brought with him into Egypt.

¹⁹The sons of Rachel, Jacob's wife: Joseph and Benjamin. ²⁰And ^(V)to Joseph in the land of Egypt were born Manasseh and Ephraim, whom Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera the priest of ^(W)On, bore to him. ²¹And ^(X)the sons of Benjamin: Bela, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard. ²²These are the sons of Rachel, who were born to Jacob—fourteen persons in all.

²³The son^[a] of Dan: Hushim. ²⁴^(Y)The sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem. ²⁵^(Z)These are the sons of Bilhah, ^(AA)whom Laban gave to Rachel his daughter, and these she bore to Jacob—seven persons in all.

²⁶All the persons belonging to Jacob who came into Egypt, who were his own descendants, not including Jacob's sons' wives, were sixty-six persons in all. ²⁷And the sons of Joseph, who were born to him in Egypt, were two. ^(AB)All the persons of the house of Jacob who came into Egypt were seventy.

Jacob and Joseph Reunited

²⁸He had sent Judah ahead of him to Joseph to show the way before him in Goshen, and they came ^(AC)into the land of Goshen. ²⁹Then Joseph prepared his chariot and went up to meet Israel his father in Goshen. He presented himself to him and ^(AD)fell on his neck and wept on his neck a good while. ³⁰Israel said to Joseph, ^(AE)“Now let me die, since I have seen your face and know that you are still alive.” ³¹Joseph said to his brothers and to his father's household, ^(AF)“I will go up and tell Pharaoh and will say to him, ‘My brothers and my father's household, who were in the land of Canaan, have come to me. ³²^(AG)And the men are shepherds, for they have been keepers of livestock, and they have brought their flocks and their herds and all that they have.’ ³³When Pharaoh calls you and says, ^(AH)‘What is your occupation?’ ³⁴you shall say, ^(AI)‘Your servants have been keepers of livestock ^(AJ)from our youth even until now, both we and our fathers,’ in order that you may dwell ^(AK)in the land of Goshen, for every shepherd is ^(AL)an abomination to the Egyptians.”

Jacob's Family Settles in Goshen

47 So Joseph ^(AM)went in and told Pharaoh, “My father and my brothers, with their flocks and herds and all that they possess, have come from the land of Canaan. They are now in ^(AN)the land of Goshen.” ²And from among his brothers he took five men and ^(AO)presented them to Pharaoh. ³Pharaoh said to his brothers, ^(AP)“What is your occupation?” And they said to Pharaoh, ^(AQ)“Your servants are shepherds, as our fathers were.” ⁴They said to Pharaoh, ^(AR)“We have come to sojourn in the land, for there is no pasture for your servants' flocks, for the famine is severe in the land of Canaan. And now, please let your servants dwell ^(AS)in the land of Goshen.” ⁵Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Your father and your brothers have come to you. ⁶The land of Egypt is before you. Settle your father and your brothers ^(AT)in the best of the land. ^(AU)Let them settle in the land of Goshen, and if you know any ^(AV)able men among them, put them in charge of my livestock.”

⁷Then Joseph brought in Jacob his father and stood him before Pharaoh, ^(AW)and Jacob blessed Pharaoh. ⁸And Pharaoh said to Jacob, “How many are the days of the years of your life?” ⁹And Jacob said to Pharaoh, “The days of the years of my ^(AX)sojourning are 130 years. ^(AY)Few and evil have been the days of the years of my life, and ^(AZ)they have not attained to the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their ^(BA)sojourning.” ¹⁰And Jacob ^(BB)blessed Pharaoh and went out from the presence of Pharaoh. ¹¹Then Joseph settled his father and his brothers and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of ^(BC)Rameses, ^(BD)as Pharaoh had commanded. ¹²And Joseph ^(BE)provided his father, his brothers, and all his father's household with food, according to the number of their dependents.

Joseph and the Famine

¹³Now there was no food in all the land, for the famine was very severe, so that the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan languished by reason of the famine. ¹⁴^(BF)And Joseph gathered up all the money that was found in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan, in exchange for the grain that they bought. And Joseph brought the money into Pharaoh's house. ¹⁵And when the money was all spent in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan, all the Egyptians came to Joseph and said, “Give us food. ^(BG)Why should we die before your eyes? For our money is gone.” ¹⁶And Joseph answered, “Give your livestock, and I will give you food in exchange for your livestock, if your money is gone.” ¹⁷So they brought their livestock to Joseph, and Joseph gave them food in exchange for the horses, the flocks, the herds, and the donkeys. He supplied them with food in exchange for all their livestock that year. ¹⁸And when that year was ended, they came to him the following year and said to him, “We will not hide from my lord that our money is all spent. The herds of livestock are my lord's. There is nothing left in the sight of my lord but our bodies and our land. ¹⁹Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? ^(BH)Buy us and our land for food, and we with our land will be servants to Pharaoh. ²⁰So Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh, for all the Egyptians sold their fields, because the famine was severe on them. The land became Pharaoh's. ²¹As for the people, he made servants of them^[b] from one end of Egypt to the other. ²²^(BI)Only the land of the priests he did not buy, for the priests had a fixed allowance from Pharaoh and lived on the allowance that Pharaoh gave them; therefore they did not sell their land.

²³Then Joseph said to the people, “Behold, I have this day bought you and your land for Pharaoh. Now here is seed for you, and you shall sow the land. ²⁴And at the harvests you shall give a ^(BJ)fifth to Pharaoh, and four fifths shall be your own, as seed for the field and as food for yourselves and your households, and as food for your little ones.” ²⁵And they said, “You have saved our lives; ^(BK)may it please my lord, we will be servants to Pharaoh.” ²⁶So Joseph made it a statute concerning the land of Egypt, and it stands to this day, that Pharaoh should have the fifth; ^(BL)the land of the priests alone did not become Pharaoh's.

²⁷Thus Israel settled in the land of Egypt, ^(BM)in the land of Goshen. ^(BN)And they gained possessions in it, and were fruitful and multiplied greatly. ²⁸And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years. ^(BO)So the days of Jacob, the years of his life, were 147 years.

What Defiles a Person

¹⁰And he called the people to him and said to them, ^(M)“Hear and understand: ¹¹^(N)it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person.” ¹²Then the disciples came and said to him, “Do you know that the Pharisees were ^(O)offended when they heard this saying?” ¹³He answered, ^(P)“Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted ^(Q)will be rooted up. ¹⁴Let them alone; ^(R)they are blind guides.^[c] And ^(S)if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.” ¹⁵But Peter said to him, ^(T)“Explain the parable to us.” ¹⁶And he said, ^(U)“Are you also still without understanding? ¹⁷Do you not see that ^(V)whatever goes into the mouth passes into the stomach and is expelled?^[d] ¹⁸But ^(W)what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person. ¹⁹For out of the heart come ^(X)evil thoughts, ^(Y)murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, ^(Z)slander. ²⁰^(AA)These are what defile a person. The Faith of a Canaanite Woman

²¹^(AC)And Jesus went away from there and withdrew to the district of Tyre and Sidon. ²²And behold, ^(AD)a Canaanite woman from that region came out and was crying, ^(AE)“Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David; my daughter is severely oppressed by a demon.” ²³But he did not answer her a word. And his disciples came and begged him, saying, ^(AF)“Send her away, for she is crying out after us.” ²⁴He answered, ^(AG)“I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” ²⁵But she came and ^(AH)knelt before him, saying, “Lord, help me.” ²⁶And he answered, “It is not right to take the children's bread and ^(AI)throw it to the dogs.” ²⁷She said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat ^(AJ)the crumbs that fall from their masters' table.” ²⁸Then Jesus answered her, “O woman, ^(AK)great is your faith! ^(AL)Be it done for you as you desire.” ^(AM)And her daughter was ^(AN)healed instantly.^[e]

Genesis 44:1-45:28, Matthew 14:13-36, Psalms 18:37-50, Proverbs 4:11-13

Today is the 22^nd day of January, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian it’s great to be here with you today. Wow! 22 days into this year already. Land is like a faint…faint little line on the horizon behind us and we are…we are sailing toward the end of our first month together, and it’s exciting to be on this journey. So, let's…let’s go ahead and take that next step. We’ve been reading from the English Standard Version this week, which is what we’ll continue to do and we have been working in the Old Testament through the story of Joseph and…and his brothers who…who had sold him into slavery when he was younger. Genesis chapter 44 and 45 today.

Commentary:

Okay, so we are rounding the corner on this story that we’ve been tracking with for several days now, the story of Joseph and his adventure to Egypt, an adventure that he wasn’t planning on taking but is family, his brothers have sold him into slavery and we’ve kind of recapped all of that. Today, Joseph reveals who he is to his brothers who are speechless and dumbfounded. A similar reaction happens in…in Jacob’s life when he finds out that his son Joseph is still alive. He’s dumbfounded. And interesting thing is Joseph’s posture through all of this, he was shrewd and cunning, in other words, he wasn’t stupid about this. He observed once he knew that his family was before him, observed to discern their hearts before revealing himself and once he does, it’s just a breathtaking scene. It’s just such a beautiful reunion. And the words of Joseph are beautiful man. I mean God didn’t make Joseph’s brothers sell him into slavery. That was an act of evil that they chose to do. But Joseph recognized and we hear from his own lips, “God was in it from the beginning. He brought me here to save you. He brought me here to save many.” And certainly, Joseph could have that perspective after he had been restored from his ordeal but as we read the story of Joseph it seems as if he has this perspective, this unwavering trust in God in all things throughout the story. And, so, Joseph’s story is one in which he was able to face surprisingly difficult circumstances, but was not unmoored in his faith, was not estranged from God because of it. Rather, he clung to God as the only hope there was. And one of the things that we see in this story is that difficulties are part of it, right? Challenges are part of the experience of being a human being among other human beings and our brokenness is on full display as much as we try to hide it. What we need to settle into is an awareness or the understanding that these difficulties, these challenges, they are not purposeless, they are leading somewhere and they’re part of it. And one of the things obstacles and challenge and difficulty does for us is to truly expose our hearts, even if just for ourselves because we can immediately see when we head into a difficult where our heart is positioned toward God. Are we angry? Are we let down? Are we frustrated? Or are we clinging as if there is no other hope? Because there is no other hope.

And we get into the book of Matthew and we have this story today of Peter walking on the water, right? And we see more examples of Jesus withdrawing, right? Trying to find solitary quiet serenity. We see this a lot in Jesus life, and we look at it and we know it and He’s the son of God and all that but we don’t look at it as an example for our own lives usually. You know, we’re just living in a world at warp speed and sort the idea of actually setting aside some time to do nothing but be quiet, still before God feels like a waste of time. And yet, we’re looking at Jesus the model, the Savior repeatedly, regularly doing exactly this. So, he’s having some quiet time and He sends His friends across the lake in a boat. And, of course, they’re experienced fishermen and this storm comes up. And, so, He goes walking out to them on the water. Here’s the interesting thing. Everybody is freaked out because they think they’re seeing a ghost. And I raise my hand and say, “hey. If I’m out on the Sea of Galilee in the dark and the wind is blowing and some figure is out on the waves, probably I’m gonna do the same thing, probably I’m going to as the Bible says, cry out in fear.” Jesus is like, “hold up, hold up, it’s me, it’s me. Don’t be afraid. Take heart. Everything’s gonna be okay.” So, Peter’s like, “Lord if its You then command me to come out to you on the water.” And, so, Jesus is like, “alright. Come…come on.” Peter got out of the boat. This is a super famous story and it’s been looked at from so many perspectives I don’t know that I can bring anything new to the story other than that Peter got out of the boat, walked on the water and came to Jesus. And so, he’s walking on the water coming to Jesus and then he looks around and sees the wind and all this stuff and he starts to sink and he’s like, “Lord save me.” And, so, we know, like all the parallels that we can make into that story. But Jesus reaches for him and it’s so interesting. I’ve always been told the story, “oh you of little faith, why did you doubt”, which condemns me for all of my doubt but it’s almost as if Jesus is saying, like, “you did it. You were doing it. Why did you doubt. You could have kept doing it.” And, so, this…as the story goes, they get to Gennesaret and many people come to be healed by Jesus and all they do is touch His clothes in order to be healed. So, we have to wonder about this miracle worker, Jesus. Is the miraculous something Jesus is doing to people or is the miraculous a result of the faith of a human collaborating with the power and presence of God? I mean, what sort of power does cotton conduct? What kind of superpower was Jesus clothes hooked up to that when they just touched them this healing power transmitted through the fabric and into their bodies and lives? Well, at least according to the Bible, that agent is faith and Jesus keeps saying to people, “go in peace, your faith has made you well.” Faith is an irreplaceable, absolutely, completely irreplaceable component in our spiritual journey. It was Joseph’s faith in God that got him through the…the ordeal. It was Peter’s faith that had him walking on water. It was people’s faith that had them touching Jesus clothes and becoming healed. So, pay attention to that fact. Watch what we’re pointing at. Like watch this as we continue the journey listening to Jesus and following Matthew after Him in His ministry

Prayer:

Jesus, we thank You. We thank You for the Scriptures, we thank You for the stories that share of Your ministry upon this earth. And it brings You so near and we are so grateful to have these words and to be able to allow them inside of us, into our lives, transforming us. And we invite Your Holy Spirit to continually disrupt if that’s what’s necessary, comfort if that’s what’s necessary, but lead us into the truth, that we might have eyes to see and ears to hear. We pray this in Your name. Amen.

Brian, you have an amazing way of reading and telling these stories. I’m 33 years old but I find myself like a little kid wanting to read ahead and find out what happens next. Some of these stories I’ve never really maybe paid attention to or known the full story and I’m just really captivated by the way you read, and it’s really been awesome. Anyway, I just wanted to thank everybody and it’s been really neat to hear everyone calling in and people all over the world and different accents and I was just really encouraged by the gentleman that called in that said he was not a believer but he was listening to this and it was encouraging him. Hello Daily Audio Bible family this is Esther calling from Nashville Tennessee. I haven’t called in a long time. I…I just wanted to call and ask prayers for my heart. I’ve been just feeling very anxious the last few mornings. And I’ll wake up and just feel this sort of stabbing pain in my chest and just going through the entire day just very anxious and I know that the Bible says be not anxious for anything but in everything with thanksgiving and supplication let your requests be known unto God. And I think my heart knows that, but my mind sometimes needs reminding. So, if you could pray for me that God would give me the mind of Christ and I would be strong and praise in him at my workplace and just in my day-to-day life and as I prepare for med school and all of that and I would be very grateful. Thank you.

Hello, good morning, just doing a quick call for Harold from St. Louis. Just wanted to say as I was listening to you call in and share your…your story about training for a marathon and trying to find something to calm you or, you know, to make you feel peaceful and happening upon the Daily Audio Bible and not being a believer and how it’s blessed you even though you may not at this point in your life, you know, maybe know God directly. I just smiled kind of merrily because it’s a blessing you and that it’s bringing upon you peace and probably energy when you run and…and it’s just kind of making you feel at rest, which, you know, what I personally know all comes from God. But it’s amazing how…how the word of God as a way to…has a way of reaching out and creating emotions in everyone who hears it. So, I just love this testimony and…and I love that you’ve kind of given me an idea of…of ways to calm maybe people…folks who aren’t necessarily particularly looking at it for…to memorize Scripture or, oh…I gotta get through the Bible this year” but mostly to just kinda have something to inspire them or make them feel good or uplift them or give them energy. So, thank you for that and, you know, Harold I am praying for you and definitely wishing you great luck in your marathon and have a wonderful day.

Good morning Daily Audio Bible this is Kim in recovery. I just wanted to pray for Michael. I heard you Michael and I just want to say that Lord, I just want to thank You for Michael’s heart for his mom as Diana is going through this struggle of her life Lord that she has this brain tumor and Michael I just heard Your love and Your caring for Your mother and Lord I just want to encourage Michael to just continue to be with his mother and show her that love that he feels in his heart, that we know that we can depend on You Lord to comfort us when we most not know what to do. And Lord, pray that You’ll give him the strength to be that strong guiding light for his mom Lord and that we know that she’s safe in Your arms Lord. And we pray that You’ll…You’ll be with the doctors and be with the nurses and be with the people that are surrounding Diana and her…her family and especially Michael Lord, that sometimes You feel helpless in these situations, but Lord we know that he is strong. Michael, thank You for Your strength, thank You for Your love for Your mother. This will help her get through the toughest part of her life. And we pray for complete healing Lord and we know You can do miracles Lord. Bless this family and we pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Father God, I’m heartbroken right now of all the situations that are going on. I heard yesterday of someone who gave up the fight and has left her friends and her family behind. And Lord, I lift up to You all of those who are in that deep darkness where they can’t see a way out, all those who have a mountain before them that they can’t see past. Lord, please be shining Your light and Your love into their lives. Please be surrounding them with people who can help them. I think this person who knew You and who had those people, that she didn’t ask for help or she couldn’t ask for help. And I pray Lord that You would help us to ask for help, to reach out, soften our hearts Lord so that we are ready to reach a hand towards You, to reach a hand towards those around us who are waiting and so, so willing to help us through. Thank You, Lord that You love us. Thank You that You are sovereign, and we can trust You to provide. Thank You for this day. And thank You for the manner that You’ve provided for us for this day. Lord we want to be ready for tomorrow and to store things up but that’s not how You work. You’ll provide stuff for us tomorrow as well. And we have so many burdens that were carrying. Please Lord, help us to give all of those burdens to You and entrust them to You so that we may take up Your burden for its easy light. Thank You that we can trust You. Thank You that You love us. Thank You that Your sovereign. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Hi this is Shirley and southeastern Washington I was listening to Daily Audio Bible this is January 16^th and I want to say thank you to Brian and Joe for this ministry. I was listening to the prayer requests and I was just praying for Diana Davis who had called, who needs healing, she has brain cancer and just as I was doing that her son Michael called. And, so, Michael I just want to let you know it’s Shirley in southeastern Washington has been praying since I heard your mom’s prayer request and praying for you and your brother. And I’m joining you in prayer for your prayer request, that God gives her more time and that she’ll be completely healed. There is nothing impossible with God.
