1 Chronicles 12:19-14:17, Romans 1:1-17 , Psalms 9:13-20, Proverbs 19:4-5

Today is the 12th day of July. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian. It is wonderful to be here with you today as we take the next step forward in our journey through the Scriptures. And the journey, when we get to the New Testament, will bring us into a new book. We finished the book of Acts yesterday. But before we get there, 1 Chronicles chapter 12 verse 19 to 14 verse 17.

Introduction to the book of Romans:

Okay. So, we finished the book of Acts yesterday, which brings us to the book of Romans, which is the first letter of the apostle Paul that appears in the New Testament. And most biblical scholars would say this is Paul’s crowning jewel. This is his greatest work in outlining in written form what he had been traveling around preaching - the good news of the gospel. And one of the things that we have to understand about the letters of Paul is that they were written before the Gospels were written and before the book of Acts was written, obviously not before the things written in the Gospels in the book of acts happened but before they were written down. So, Paul’s traveling around evangelizing, preaching the good news of Jesus. So he’s educated and he’s literate and he writes letters back to the churches that have been formed to further instruct them because there was no New Testament for them to refer to. And these letters were treasured by the churches and copied and passed around to the other churches. So, the letters of the apostle Paul are some of the earliest Christian writings that we have. So, Paul probably wrote this letter to the Romans from the city of Corinth, where some of his greatest missionary work and been accomplished. And it’s probably written in the mid-50s. And when Paul finished this letter he sent Phoebe, probably from the church in Contraya, which is just outside of Corinth to hand deliver the letter and make an introduction to the apostle Paul. Of course, Paul was a Roman citizen and he had a passion for his people. We’ve been learning about the apostle Paul in the book of Acts. He couldn’t wait to visit Rome but he had other business to attend to before he could go there, the first thing being a trip to Jerusalem where, unfortunately, his plans took a turn and he was arrested and kept in captivity for several years. And Paul does make his way to Rome as we know from the book of Acts. Like, we just went through this great shipwreck, getting him to Rome, but he makes his first trip to Rome as a prisoner. And the church in Rome was implanted by Paul. And we don’t actually know who brought the gospel of Jesus to Rome, but if we’re going to speculate, it was probably someone or a group of people who were in the upper room maybe, or around the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, who likely carried the gospel back to Rome and established the church there. But of course that’s speculation. The central theme that we’ll find in the book of Romans is righteousness, our need for righteousness, the righteousness that the work of Christ offers us and our obligation to live into that righteousness, to be transformed, that our nature is actually changed so that we can live as righteous people. And the book shows who God is, the work of Jesus, and it shines a mirror in our faces and shows us who we are without Christ. No matter how good we think we are, no matter how benevolent we’ve been, no matter how loving we think we are, without Jesus it’s all filthy rags. So, let’s enjoy our time in the book of Romans. It’s one of the greatest doctrinal works we have in all of Christianity. So, let’s drink deep from one of the earliest documents we have in the faith. Romans chapter 1 verse 1 through 17.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word. And as we turn the page in the New Testament and move, not into a new era, but into some new territory where we will be working our way through the letters of the apostle Paul, we invite Your Holy Spirit. We invite Your Holy Spirit to give us context, to give us history, to give us wisdom, and to apply all of these things into our lives and into our faith that we might grow, that we might mature, and that we might be become fully grown, mature people, Your people on this earth representing You, and announcing the renewal of all things. Come Holy Spirit we pray. In Jesus’ name we ask. Amen.

Community Prayer and Praise:

Hello Daily Audio Bible family. This is Standing Firm. I have not called in in a while and frankly I have not been Standing Firm. I’ve been living in the Greenville South Carolina area and I’m going to pray and ask for forgiveness and pray for all of you. Dear Father, I thank You so much for Your kindness, Your mercy and Your grace. And Lord You know everything that’s going on in my life - depression and loneliness. Thank You just for the times that I just fail and fall and ask You to forgive me for that and not just __ You but for the strength that You provide, a strength that You can always give and that the cross is right there for my taking and You have given back to us freely. Lord, I thank You for the cross Lord. I thank You for forgiveness. I thank You for being the one and only way to heaven and there is no other God. You are all there is. Father, I thank You for all these friends that one day I will see, which will be a glorious reunion. Thank You so much. I pray for all those out there struggling with depression and loneliness. Just keep Your head up. Look to the cross. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Hello Daily Audio Bible family. This is One Out of the Shell from Central Florida. And I have a couple of requests and I want to agree in prayer for some of our family members that have called in. First, my brother has a child, two girls and he lives in Nevada and he’s trying to get custody of his two-year-old daughter because the mother is having a lot of serious mental challenges right now and it’s come to the point of being dangerous for my little niece. So, please lift up that situation in agreement with me that she’ll be able to be with her father and her brother in a safe environment. Pray for him as well please. They’re are going to court this week, I believe it’s within the week if not this week. The other situation I’m asking prepare for is, my daughter called that in about a week or so ago. Her name is Danielle. I’ve seen some progress. We have a whole lot more to go…so. And then finally, we have a business opportunity that looks very promising that we believe the Lord brought to us that I really know in my heart there some things that my husband and I need to address and I need the Lord to really confirm this to me because it means quitting my regular full-time job. So, be in agreement with me about that please. Cherry Pie, I hear you honey and I want to pray for you right now along with all of the single bonds. Been there done that. Father God, we just thank You for this dear sweet sister and all the other sisters and brothers that are going through the same thing. Bring them peace, wisdom, guidance…

Hi Daily Audio Bible family. This is Adam in Chiga Heights Ohio. I’ve been listening for a long time and actually have never called then a prayer request but I have an important prayer request for my sister-in-law’s son, so my nephew in Stockholm Sweden. He has water on his brain. His head is…he’s eight months old…and his head has been growing. And the doctors really haven’t been doing much over there in Sweden. And, so, we’ve been a little bit frustrated. And, so, finally he had an MRI, took an MRI. They’re going to find out the results of it. But they said last week when they took the MRI if its just normal water on the brain we are going to do surgery in August / September. But if it’s something severe like a tumor or potential cancer we’re going to do surgery right away. Now, they called in today and said they’re going to do surgery right away. So, naturally they’re extremely worried, extremely scared. They are not…not…my brother-in-law’s not a Christian, but God’s been really working on his heart. So, pray for him. He’s really prayerful but I know God’s going to do a miracle here. And his name is William. He’s eight months old and if you could really pray that God would…my prayer is that he would live and not die and proclaim God’s good works. If you could join with me in prayer for William, I’d really appreciate that. Thank you. Bye.

Hey Brian. It’s Jeff from Syracuse calling. It’s been a couple of months since I touched base with you. Going through some tough times. My wife who I called in about in the past, she did go home to be with Jesus, 55 years old. Just a wonderful creature that loved God with her whole heart. Horrible, horrible ovarian cancer. Hard but God knows what He’s doing. Very difficult being alone. Being in this world without your help mate that you basically lived your entire life around and were looking to tend to the golden years together and see things and do things together. But Brian, I’m so glad for your program because, quite frankly, you put us in touch with the heart of God and there is nothing that is going to provide that intimacy with our Creator, especially during time of horrible grief like this, then being with Jesus Christ at the essence of that. And I just love your program Brian because you emphasize, you emphasize caring that comes from Jesus, the love that emanates, the godly love that emanates from him. And it’s just so refreshing to come in to hear that when you’ve been out in the world where there really isn’t any love. There’s just faults, idols, and distractions, and everything else. That Satan’s game. But Brian, you’ve got us into God’s game which is, I love you my children, I want you. Come back to me I’m your good Shepherd. Thanks so much Brian. I love it when you say at the end, I’m Brian and I love you. And it just means so much to me. God bless you. Bye-bye
